Although here on the west coast of the United States, it’s still that bloody awful year 2020, I know a lot of you are already ringing in the future...so I made this basic little drawing for you of my OG girl Carewyn Cromwell ringing in the New Year in the place I wish so, so much I could be, while ringing in 2021 -- my work location, Disneyland Resort!
2020 has indeed been a real rollercoaster of a year. It’s the year that really woke me up to how much and how long I’ve neglected my own mental health, but it’s also the year I started this blog and, through it and the HPHM community, made all sorts of new friends and found an exciting new outlet to write, roleplay, and practice my budding art skills. Truly, my fellow HPHM/HPMA/HPHL content creators...you’ve all brought me such sunlight in the midst of this incredibly dark and uncertain year, and I can’t thank you enough. I no doubt will forget a name or two much to my chagrin, but here are just a few of the amazing, beautiful people who put a rainbow on my cloud this last year, whether through their wonderful content for their characters, the interactions our characters have shared, or just their overall wonderful attitudes --
-Her special magic is known as Bardic Inspiration.
-She does not use a wand, instead playing a variety of instruments imbued with a type of core.
-As such her magic is also fairly non-traditional, instead generally being used to buff allies and sabotage enemies.
-Her metamorphagus abilities result in chnaging her appearance subconsciously based on her main emotional state and subsequently it changes how she plays her instruments.
-That’s all I got so far and for the curious, she’s based on my D&D character concept Satora, who much like metamorhphagi can change her appearance based on her emotions, which is also reflected in her music.
Ahh, it’s done! ;D It’s been honestly super fun to make. A huge thank you to everyone for participating and letting me borrow your lovely MCs! <3 Under the cut I included the versions without the doodles and all the credits.
@kc-needs-coffee It might also be little Joss’s birthday, but I had to draw his parents in celebration of yours! So I’ll take this opportunity to say that I am beyond grateful to have you and dearest Shiv in my life. You’ve been a stellar friend in every possible way and I know I can always count on you to make me feel better when I’m down. It’s a real privilege to be able to write & draw your OCs- all of whom are beautiful- and I hope to continue doing so for a long time to come ❤️ I hope you have a fabulous day, Kate, and sending lots of love and hugs ✨
Stressed: When quidditch games go badly, during end of year exams
Calm/Comforted: When relaxing with a good book, practicing calligraphy in her journal
Face Claim: Kristine Froseth
Height: 5ft 6in
Build: Lean, narrow shoulders
Skin Tone: Fair, freckles on shoulders and nose, tans easily during the summer months
Hair: Brown-gold, wavy, usually styled in a French braid or half updo
Eyes: Cornflower blue
What do they carry on them?: Her wand, wallet and money, a handful of fizzing whizbees, pocket watch, small telescope, moleskin notebook, fountain pen, hair ties, lipstick
Wand: Beech wood with a phoenix feather core, 12 1/4 and slightly springy flexibility
The true match for a beech wand will be, if young, wise beyond his or her years, and if full-grown, rich in understanding and experience. Beech wands perform very weakly for the narrow-minded and intolerant… When properly matched, the beech wand is capable of a subtlety and artistry rarely seen in any other wood, hence its lustrous reputation.
Patronus Form: Basset hound
Form: A large, ominous shadow creature wrapping itself around someone she loves until they disappear completely
Riddikulus: The shadow creature turns into fairies who serenade her with a silly song
What they smell like to others: Lemonade, morning dew, parchment, sandalwood, hyacinth
What they smell: Candle wax, chalk dust, coffee, leather, pine, sea spray
What they see in the Mirror of Erised: Herself, stargazing with her friends and family
Shadow Manipulation: Gwen’s ancient form of magic is the ability to create, shape, and manipulate darkness and shadows. This ability can be channeled to a variety of effects, both as an absence of light and as a solid substance. It can potentially be used to create and dispel shields and areas of total darkness, create constructs and weapons, and teleport one's self massive distances via shadows
Chaser for the Falmouth Falcons, Archie’s professional career came to a brutal end when he fell from his broom and became paralyzed from the waist down. The Healers couldn’t explain why his spine wasn’t healing with magic, leading them to believe dark magic was involved (although no one ever came forward). Gwen was 13 at the time of the accident. Now wheelchair bound, Archie is a quidditch commentator and writer. Archie Archeron walked so that Murphy McNully could run, even though technically neither of them would be walking/running anywhere
Mother: Rhiannan Archeron (née Walcott)
Magizologist, established the first fairy sanctuary in Britain in an effort to fight the inhumane harvesting of fairy wings
Brother: Jesse Archeron
2 years younger than Gwen
Played professional quidditch for the Chudley Canons, founder and owner of Quality Quidditch Supplies in Diagon Alley
Sister: Lola Archeron
5 years younger than Gwen
Magizologist, she eventually takes over the fairy sanctuary from her mother and expands it to include pixies and bowtruckles
Comet (female tawny owl)
Oscar Wilde (male basset hound, family dog)
Let me know if you have an MC who’d like to be friends (or rivals, dorm mates, etc.) with Gwen!
Gwen was a 7 minute hat stall between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor
She rides a Moontrimmer broomstick
She owns a Rheticus-model magical telescope with her initials engraved on it (a gift from her parents on her 17th birthday)
Book nerd! Gwen loves Victorian Gothic and Shakespeare
Gwen learned archery from her Muggle grandmother
The Archeron family has a basset hound named Oscar Wilde. Oscar is a tenacious, sweet tempered dog who loves cuddles. Gwen keeps a photograph of him on her nightstand
Gwen was 8 when she discovered her shadow manipulation ability was unusual. She had lost track of time playing with the fairies at the reserve and the sun had set. Realizing that she had become lost, Gwen parted the shadows and let the moonlit path she’d created lead her towards home. Archie eventually found her lying on her back in a field of wildflowers near the manor, staring up at the night sky with the shadows and moonlight dancing around her. This is how she got the nickname Moonshine
Gwen is a talented calligrapher! She practices by writing the names of her friends and family, and by copying passages/quotes from her favorite books
She designs the hand lettered logo and advertisements for Jesse’s quidditch supply store
While working as a Runologist, Gwen is chosen to accompany Cursebreakers to a site in New Zealand for an extended project. While there, she creates a detailed star chart of the Southern Hemisphere which is published in multiple renowned astronomy journals
“I am a ghost -- just a mirage -- (There in that voice,
Who chases traces of you (Traces of you...)
Dark and familiar, and deep as the sea...
This man is dead -- he is no more -- (I know those eyes,)
And though it's torturing me (Torturing me...)
Can either of us really ever be free?”
~“I Know Those Eyes / This Man is Dead” from The Count of Monte Cristo (musical)
An animatic?? What was I even thinking? x.x And only a piece of what might very well be a complete project, sometime over the rainbow... if any of you are even interested in a final product >>;
Okay, so for those of you who don’t know my HPHL vampire MC Bat Varney -- although he’s a laidback, mysterious, “screw-the-rules” sort of scholar who ends up serving as a surrogate professor (and in some cases uncle) for Adelia Selwyn @thatravenpuffwitch, Danny Gibson @catohphm, and the other students of Hogwarts, Bat -- typical to most vampires in modern media -- has a pretty tragic backstory.
In truth a Muggle-born wizard named Robert Harker, Bat was cursed back to life by his best friend Bartholomew “Barty” Varney’s wife and his close friend, Cecelia Crouch-Varney, who’d secretly nurtured romantic feelings for Robert for years and had a premonition that Robert wouldn’t come home from his and Barty’s term of service as soldiers during the War for American Independence. Unfortunately what Cecelia didn’t know was that the dark magic she’d resorted to in order to try to ensure that Robert returned home alive would bring him back as a vampire and -- since Robert’s own body was too badly damaged -- his soul would latch itself onto the closest complete body in its vicinity, which ended up being Barty’s. Now stuck in his best friend’s reanimated corpse, Bat is doomed to live a half-life on the sidelines, unable to fully integrate with people or even be too close to anyone else again. Even connecting too closely to anyone emotionally again would tear away at Bat’s sanity, since he would be forced to stand back and watch as anyone he might ever grow to care about wastes away and dies before his eyes...and so, to avoid being driven mad with repeated heartbreak and grief as many other vampires do, Bat makes the coldly logical decision to emotionally detach from everyone, coming to see people as casual acquaintances he can help and then let fade back into the nameless void so that he can forget them and not dwell on their existence and death after they disappear from view.
Bat only saw Cecelia twice after what she’d done to him. The first time, when he’d learned what she’d done, ended with terrible, heart-wrenching shouting and Bat running away into the night, unable to contain his out-of-control bloodlust. The second time, ten years later, was when Bat finally felt enough in-control of himself to pay his old friend a short visit. It was during this visit that Bat learned the procedure Cecelia had used to change him and that the only way he’d rest in peace was if someone decapitated him and drove a stake through his heart -- something neither Cecelia nor Bat had the heart to do to the body of their lost friend. This animatic (once completed) would center around this meeting of Cecelia and Bat’s, focusing not just on Bat’s detachment from who he used to be and survivor’s guilt, but also Cecelia’s crippling remorse about what she did to the two most important people in her life that has now made her a frail, emaciated shadow of her former self. Fortunately these two get a second chance at maybe having a happier ending than their first in the Reincarnation AU, where Cecelia, Barty, and Bat are all reborn in the Golden Era alongside Bat’s Lawful Good counterpart from the HPHL timeline, Atticus Grimsley @cursebreakerfarrier.
Hope you all have a lovely day, and as always, please consider liking/reblogging/commenting! All feedback is appreciated, especially whether or not you’d like to see me add more to this animatic. I’m still very new to making anything like this, but it’s been fun to try to stretch my amateur art in new directions, so knowing what’s interesting to you all and getting advice going forward would be great! 💚
-> I’m definitely not one to blow my own trumpet when it comes to anything, but I wanted to show my progress as a digital artist! The first picture is of Jules and is my first ever digital piece that I did at the beginning of July 2020; the bottom one is of Akira and is my latest ‘proper’ art piece that I did at the beginning of July 2021. I honestly can’t believe how much I’ve improved and when it comes to shading and finding my own ‘style’ especially. I can hardly believe my art is my art sometimes! Digital art and HP OCs have been the most spectacular combination this past year (ugh COVID) and I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me ily all! ❤️✨
So I wanted to make an HPHL OC yesterday, and I did, but it took me a long time because I wanted to make it historically accurate. HPHL hasn't been released yet, but we do know that it takes place in the 1890's. Unfortunately, this is a pretty small window of time, and its also not well represented in media which means most people don't know a lot about it, and there isn't a lot of correctly-costumed media out there for moodboards and faceclaims. Below are some resources I found helpful for finding historically accurate faceclaims, names, fashion, and interests.
I also include Edwardian references in this list because although the Edwardian era encompasses 1901-1914, its a lot closer to the 1890's than the entire of the Victorian era is, which was quite a few decades. Basically, if you can't find anything good in a search for 1890's fashion, searching for Edwardian fashion will get you closer than searching for Victorian fashion will.
Yep, that’s right, I finally reached 200 followers and only four days prior to celebrating my 1 year anniversary of this sideblog on the 8th July! I’m so grateful to every single one of you that follows me and especially to those who consistently like/reblog my content. I’d die for you all 😌
✧･ﾟ: *✧･ﾟ:* So I’ll be picking three winners: first place will get a bust drawing of their MC (similar to these) ; second place will get three aesthetics for three of their MCs ; and third place will get two aesthetics of their MCs
— Must be following me (obviously)
— Send me an ask only (if your HP blog is a sideblog just tell me that in the ask) stating 1.) why you follow me and 2.) which of my MCs if your favourite & why I’m curious!!
— And because why not: tell me your favourite joke too!
✧･ﾟ: *✧･ﾟ:* The giveaway closes this coming Friday (that’s the 9th July) and winners will be chosen at random & notified via DMs. Good luck 💙
Tagging some of my lovely mutuals @kc-needs-coffee @slytherindisaster @thatravenpuffwitch @lifeofkaze @unfortunate-arrow @carewyncromwell @fairywrenn @scarlettroubles @gcldensnitch @department-shoe-stud @that-scouse-wizard @gaygryffindorgal @praetoring @mira-shard @kathrynalicemc @nightmaresart @hphmbetty @catohphm
I saw some really cool yearbook edits on my dash and it gave me an idea to do something like this, but with the HPHL kids. I already have my mcs written down and their love interests/closest friends, but I am still short if I want to do 9 characters per page. I plan to do 4 pages in total so each house will have their own. So I guess what I’m trying to say is that if you’d like for your mc(s) to be a part of it let me know! I included a list of the ones I’m planing to put there under the cut, so if you don’t want your mc in this project please let me know as well and I will remove them.
Everyone, this is Scout. She’s the product of 48 hours of no internet, zero self control, and a distraction from pain.
Her full name is Harriet Evelyn Springer, but goes by Scout which comes from her brutal passion for Quidditch, her swiftness on the pitch playing as a Chaser, and her eventual position as a professional player/coach. She’s a Muggleborn: her parents are teachers and she also has a younger sister who is magical. Scout was sorted into Gryffindor for a number of reasons, including being feisty beyond belief and a trailblazer in Quidditch and reversing gender stereotypes. She also won’t hesitate to punch you for the littlest thing that pisses her off. She’s academically bright, too, but prefers being on the Quidditch pitch. And her faceclaim is the stunning Hayley Atwell!
In honour of Unni and Gwen having the same faceclaim, here's a self indulgent princess and the pauper AU. I may have used this as an excuse to watch the movie for references. Unni may look unhappy but she loves Gwen and is protective and will stab a bitch 💕
