I'm not saying catching feelings at the most unexpected time isn't real, because life is unpredictable, but I'm not sure why the show expects us to forget that Ricky literally broke up with Lily 4 days ago. And now he apparently is catching feelings for Gina while she's in a relationship with EJ, the very same guy whose relationship he interfered with a year before. It would be one thing if Ricky realized his feelings in the season finale, but 4 days after a breakup with Lily, something he hasn't actually even processed or talked about yet, is... weirdly paced? Hasn't even been a week since his last break up, and he seems to be developing romantic feelings for Gina. Ricky seems to have a pattern of doing this (S1, quickly "pretends to move on" (1.09) when Nini sets boundaries (1.04), then he and Gina get closer in 1.05-1.07. Then gets back together with Nini in 1.10/S2. Breakup in 2.08, gets with Lily roughly a month later. Approximately 4 days later, he appears to show signs of jealousy regarding Portwell.) It all moves very fast with him, and a lot of that blame should be placed on his parents. And yet it's something he hasn't confronted yet. Perhaps Val can be a voice of reason for him next week? Sure, maybe he's developing feelings for Gina now, but there's no way he's ready to be in a romantic relationship with anyone this season. So I'm not entirely sure where they're going with this...

Something I just wanna point out is how in the season 3 poster for hsmtmts you can kind of tell how they are going to play the relationships this season.

Like you can clearly see Carlos, Kourtney and Nini standing on their own and having a good time (although Nini is kind of spacing out it looks like which may symbolize her following her dreams), which I think symbolizes how each of these characters will grow to be more independent this season. However Ricky is clearly positioned between EJ and Gina. Showing that he is going to cause a riff in their relationship (yes I’m aware he already has) however he is a little more off to the side so I think that’s showing that it won’t cause any major damage. He also isn’t looking directly at anybody so I don’t think he will actually be looking for any relationships this season, but judging by the way Jett is looking at Ricky I think something will probably happen between them. Then you also have the way Maddox is staring at Ashlyn, clearly showing that there is going to be a crush and May end up being that Ashlyn is also into girls, or it’s just Magic and nothing ends up happening between them. I also think that Ashlyn will leave camp with two new friendships. Idk I just think it’s interesting how everybody is positioned and only some are looking at each other.

I have this feeling that Val is going to represent the blonde girl that causes a love triangle because she has feelings for the main boy who she helps with college stuff. I have seen this happen to endgame ships I like Troyella in HSM2 and Shirbert in Season 3 of AWAE. Sharpay (HSM), Winnie (AWAE) and Val (HSMTMTS) all have blonde hair and their first names start with a letter at the end of the alphabet. Both Sharpay and Winnie were helping the main boy Troy and Gilbert with college stuff. 1/2

Val is described as a “college student” I think she is going to somehow help EJ with college stuff. I think Val is going to play a similar role to Sharpay in HSM2 and Winnie in Season 3 of AWAE. Both Winnie and Val have blonde hair and are a few years older than the main girl Anne and Gina. Val is going to be introduced in Season 3 of HSMTMTS just like how Winnie was introduced in Season 3 of AWAE. 2/2

I think you nailed what Val ended up being in the story, but not so much on the size of her role. There were episodes where we didn't even see her, and Gina's jealousy didn't play a huge role in Portwell's story either.

For example, in AWAE, when Gilbert started courting Winnie, it prompted Anne to realize her feelings and try to do something about them because she felt she was running out of time. Same in HSM 2, Sharpay getting closer to Troy prompted Gabriella to talk to him (I think, I haven't seen HSM 2 in a while lol).

The point of the "blonde girl" as you call her, is to help the main couple/ship to move things along. She is used as a plot tool to get the main couple to move from one place to another in their development. However, I don't think Val was used necessarily like that. She pushed EJ to tell Gina about things, but he never took her advice, since Gina found out another way. Val also wasn't the one who told Gina, so it didn't move the plot forward in that way either.

Gina's jealousy quickly became secondary. The main things that were mentioned in her breaking up speech were things that had to do with EJ neglecting her. Things he did or didn't do. Not him being too close to Val, or Val even being mentioned much. If anything, that was Ricky.

I'm a little glad Val didn't end up being just the plot tool to move Portwell forward though, because she is genuinely an amazing character, and at the end, an incredible friend to EJ. In fact, if season 4 were to hint at EJ getting together with Val, I would 100% be jumping on that ship.

Gina is so scared of val and ej's relationship. Cant blame her last guy she interested in didn't work out cause of his connection with his childhood friend. But I'm so glad Ej reassure her saying "you are the only thing im not worry about" even though he still dont know what really bother her.

Val is the living embodiment of everything that Gina could possibly be insecure about in her rela with EJ. She's pretty, a little older, is a dancer, the choreographer, and has history with EJ. Because Gina's experienced what it's like to have someone she likes choose someone else, particularly a person they have history with, she's a little on high alert with Val and EJ. Gina's never really had long lasting interpersonal relationships before, given the fact that she's moved around so much, so it might be a little hard for her to see Val and EJ be so close (while also possibly reminding her of what happened w/ Ricky and Nini). So for EJ to immediately reassure her that he's not worried about their relationship was s/t Gina was surprised to hear, but also really needed to hear as well:

She scans his face after he says " you and me, it's the only thing I'm not worried about," to see if he's being serious and if he means it, then she forms a small smile on her face. She can tell he's being genuine. Then she looks down at their hands. He's holding on to her and he's not willing to let her go (nor does she truly want that). Despite her insecurities about Val, Gina knows at this moment EJ has faith in their relationship. And that's enough for her.

(Also, lowkey was kinda living for jealous Gina in 3.02. LOL)

so you're telling me he had to make the call prematurely because he didn't feel there was a single other person who could morally support him through this? not his cousin who he's had these kind of conversations with before, not his ex girlfriend who was shown to be a source of strength and support for him, not a single one of his friends from school would be willing or able?

he had to squeeze such an important call in before she left because she was the only one really on his side.

I'm pretty sure Matt said val and ej have a brother-sister relationship so people wouldn't mistake it as something more. This fandom tend to mistook lot of things so I've no doubt if he said they are childhood friends and stop there people gonna freak out about something more. Also he said it so casually. Like not afraid of any spoilers. So yeah I think they gonna have a sibling kinda relationship. It's not mean they have a relationship like EJ-ashlyn. it's only mean that they have no romantic feelings involve.

Side note : Matt never lied about spoilers. It just some people twisted his interviews. Him saying caswen have some rivalry in s2 (I didn't saw this myself but saw some people talk about this) could be his way of spoiling they playing beast and Gaston.

this was sent way before season 3 started, so sorry for the wait, but given what we've seen so far i think he was right when saying that! I haven't seen or perceived so far any kind of romantic chemistry between them, just friends. the only person who seemed to doubt that was gina (which is very understandable). maddox said they had a very close bond and relationship, so it makes sense that they're like siblings.

i truly think val is more than just the girl who makes the gf jealous. i hope they develop her as much as they can this season
