Can we have one for yae, hu tao, ganyu, and ei (separate) where they have a s/o who like everyone is in love with? Like constantly is flirting with and staring at and like one day they get annoyed with it and it leads to them basically having possessive/jealous sex?
Everybody likes you
(and so do i)
Tumblr media
⊹ characters : yae miko, raiden ei, hu tao (separate)
⊹ synopsis : everyone loves you in a way that drives them mad
⊹ warnings : NSFW, jealousy, jealous/possessive sex, (bratty sub) reader herself is pretty snarky and flirty, marking, biting
⊹ female reader (afab, she/her usage), not beta read
ANON THIS POST STRAIGHT UP DELETED WHILE I WAS MAKING IT… luckily it glitched on desktop tho and somehow saved a copy? anyways, i unfortunately couldn’t fit ganyu in with the prompt :( but this is my first time writing hu tao, so i hope it worked out !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
starts off here before splitting into separate parts
Smooth-talker; damn you if you intended it.
You’re flirty—she can be, as well—but had you no limit?
You’re taken—by her, and only her—did you forget that?
You’re infuriating—more so now than ever—did you realize that?
She watched from the sidelines as you played your little game, being the center of attention with other women. If your purpose was to annoy her, well then it was certainly working. She hated that charming smirk dancing sinisterly on your lips, for it was one you always plastered on when flirting.
And these other flings were just melting in it, with one woman leaned in so close, she was practically whispering in your ear every time she spoke. Another was running her touch on your skin, one hand tracing lingering lines on your arm, and the other patting at your thigh. Both never once took their eyes off of you, clearly infatuated by your looks alone.
each part continues directly after this
Tumblr media
⊹ YAE MIKO
Tumblr media
“Cheating little rat.”
She gritted her teeth as she pushed you down roughly on the bed, climbing over you rather disgracefully. Her movements were animalistic like the fox she was, and it seemed like she was scurrying just to get a bite of you.
You scoffed with a smirk, “Are you accusing me of adultery? Your own wife?”
“Well considering the way you acted earlier, I wouldn’t be surprised.” Her words came out through need breaths as she practically ripped your clothing right off of your body. And you let her—if anything, you were laughing at her angered state.
Her eyes only slanted further in anger from your attitude—had you no shame? To blatantly flirt with other women in front of your own wife? What was your plan—to shame her? To embarrass her?
Miko hated embarrassment. Hated it so much, that she kissed the bare skin of your neck, and then sucked and bit at it so roughly it would leave a mark. You cried out as she tainted your weak spot, and she wouldn’t stop as her lips trailed to nip at another part of your neck. She did not scrape them gently, instead prompted to bite rather harshly on your skin to leave colors of red and purple.
You choked out a moan as she put pressure down on your throat. “So rough tonight…”
“It’s because you smell like those women’s cheap perfume,” Miko sneered. She began to trail one of her hands downwards while moving her face to the other side of your neck, but then she paused. “What’s this…?”
You immediately shivered when her well-manicured nail came into contact with your skin, before circling a patch of your neck.
She mused rather dangerously, “I don’t recall ever wearing red-tinted lipstick…”
Oh. One of the women from earlier… You were in trouble.
Miko backed up for just a moment, starting down at you with a predatory look in her eye. But her gaze did not meet your own, no; instead they were focused right down at your little kiss mark on your neck. You knew it meant trouble, yet you still couldn’t shut that annoying mouth of yours:
“It was cherry flavored.”
“Oh, you—”
You weren’t allowed to go to clubs anymore after that night.
Tumblr media
⊹ RAIDEN EI
Tumblr media
She’s so dramatic.
This wasn’t the first time this happened actually; people were always flirting with you. Ei’s usual response was to watch from the sidelines with a puppy dog pout on her face, waiting for you to be done so she can cling on to you for the whole night.
But this time seemed to be different, and perhaps maybe that was because you were flirting back. Ei practically approached without warning, and then roughly yanked your wrist and dragged you outside, leaving the two women highly confused.
She couldn’t even wait to get home. The moment you got outside, she dragged you into some musty alleyway and pinned you against the wall.
“Ei…” you gasped out once your back hit the wall. “You’re fine pinning me here? In this dirty spot—”
She kissed that cheeky smile right off your lips. Her violet eyes were positively glowing with both spite and a sort of possessiveness you couldn’t read. And her movements were unpredictable; one moment she’s pushing you, the next, her arms hook under your thighs and she wraps your legs around her body.
You arch your back as best as you can the moment her lips dive to your collarbone. She nips at it, which she does not usually do—Ei isn’t one to mark, but it seems tonight told a different story.
“You’re so mean,” she quietly whines after leaving a few red spots. Her voice seems so soft and sad, but you aren’t blind to the way her actions begin going harder. She groans warmly against your ear, “You’d rather have fun with some cheap-looking women than me?”
Cheap-looking women, she says; And yet here she was, pinning you in some dirty alleyway.
“You’re so impatient,” you mock her. “And so uptight.” She grips your thighs hard at this, and she seems to be deciding what to do with you. “Why don’t you show me how fun you can be?”
She immediately rolls her hips onto your core, the buckle of her belt grinding right against your core.
You forgot she was wearing that.
Tumblr media
⊹ HU TAO
Tumblr media
Hu Tao actually didn’t interfere the whole night.
In fact, even as you began to leave and go home, she was unusually silent on the way to the car—humming some light tune, skipping in her steps.
So naturally, you figured that everything was alright. Even when you both entered the car, she was still her usual bouncy self as she situated her body atop the driver’s seat. The only time something off happened was while driving home during this ungodly hour—when she made an incorrect turn.
“Um…” you voiced out in the silence of the vehicle. “Aren’t we supposed to go straight here…?”
She shut you up by placing a hand down on your bare thigh, squishing the flesh rather hard and abruptly. It caught you by surprise—her grip being the same intensity in which one of the flirty women held your thigh tonight. Though, your lover’s grip had a sense of possession in them, as if she was trying to prove that you belonged to her via that grab alone.
One hand on the wheel, she stayed silent and began to caress upwards on your thigh, driving to some secluded parking lot at some random park.
And when the engine was finally turned off, she practically threw you onto the backseats and ripped your clothes off under the dim streetlight. With your back against the leather seats, her lips attached on your boobs almost immediately.
“D-darling?” you called out to her. “Wouldn’t you want to get home first?”
She bit down on the underside of your breast. “You didn’t seem to mind publicity when you were hitting it off with those other women earlier,” she sarcastically remarked as you gasped from the feeling of her teeth.
But your breath moan died down in laughter as you teased, “Aw, are you jealous?”
She didn’t respond, instead choosing to stick two of her fingers into your mouth as a way to shut you up. She plunged them in rather deeply, pressing down on your tongue so you choked for a moment before comfortably sucking on them.
“That’ll make that flirty mouth of yours stay quiet…” she grumbled, slight pout on her face as she began sucking on your skin. She left marks everywhere she could get before leaning back, admiring how your body looked in this dim lighting in the backseats of her car.

forcing a smile and waving goodbye ☆
feat. | xiao, childe, hu tao, and raiden shogun summary | breaking up w them :( a/n | it's been so long since i've written angst omg
hu tao |
she's been together with you for so long that she can hardly remember days without you. her life's been split into two sections; With You and Without You. Without You is cold and dark, a cave in her mind where she vanishes during the night and doesn't emerge till noon the next day.
she remembers how, before she met you, she was just there--incomplete, always bouncing around, always tailing people. she was just that girl at the funeral parlor that somehow knows zhongli. she was just hu tao. she remembers how, just two weeks after you two had started dating, she'd become hutaoandyn. she'd become important.
when you sit her down at your perfect mahogany-colored dining table, your perfect hands cupping a warm, steaming tea, your earnest eyes staring into hers, saying i don't think this is working out anymore, she is convinced it's a nightmare. she lets the words flow over the top of her head, holding her breath so she wouldn't cry. she doesn't say anything (are there even words for this awful pain?), just swallows her burning tea and stands up. the chair makes an awful squeaking noise, probably scratching up the floors you love so much. and she thinks, i hope they get scratched up so bad that every time you see them you think of me. and then she had feels ashamed, and petty. she forces a smile and she waves goodbye, and then slams the door.
she sits in the car for what felt like ten years, tears dripping onto the steering wheel and the seat, her shoes in her hand, her nose burning. the sky is gray, the ground is gray, the clouds are taunting her. her fire is gray, the funeral parlor is bleak. there is no joy in steamed fish. there is no joy in pranking people, not without you.
glaze lilies bring to mind your love for puns, the way she would wake up every sunday morning with a fresh bouquet and a note pinned to them on her bedside table. her heart splits a little when she eats jueyun chili chicken, because it was your favorite. when it comes around to your birthday, she takes a long bath and cries until her throat is raw and her eyes are red and swollen. on her birthday, despite the party that her friends throw for her, she wonders if you're remembering her the way she remembers you.
xiao |
xiao has never been good with feelings, but he is completely head over heels in love for you. he would sprint in front of a moving train for you. he would stab himself for you. he would rip out his heart for you, except you've done it first.
words shouldn't be able to hurt this much, especially words coming from your mouth, your mouth which usually says, i love you, xiao. except this time, it's saying, maybe we should rethink our relationship. i think we need a break. and he knows that you aren't meaning to hurt him, just trying to move on, just trying to make yourself feel better, but that doesn't console him. he tries to make himself feel angry as you're talking to him, but he can't. it's as if he won't feel anything ever again, just the painful pressure in his head, the ringing of your voice in his ears.
do me a favor and break my nose, or tell me to go away, he screams at you, but just in his head. he loves you, still. he feels like a broken nose would hurt less than this, your patient, sympathetic smile, your cried-out eyes that show that you still care too. you reach for his hand, but he feels like your touch would burn, maybe it would make him shatter into a million pieces like glass. do people do that? do adepti do that? does anything alive do that at all?
he feels like he's drowning, like something's holding his head underwater. it's making your face all fuzzy. or maybe that's the tears in his eyes, or maybe he's tired. maybe he's so tired he's hallucinating the whole thing. but that would be too good to be true, because you're standing up and squeezing his shoulders and walking off.
he guesses that you won't have any more tea dates. and with that, he hurls his cup to the ground and watches it shatter.
raiden shogun |
raiden is unaccustomed to love, which is why it hurts more when you're breaking up with her. she had told you that she wasn't the right person to love, that she could hurt you, that she wasn't perfect. you had kissed her and told her that she was wrong, she was lying, of course she was perfect. despite her protests, she had fallen in love with you; your smile and your chin and your cheeks and your forehead. your hands, which hold hers.
she wants to slap you, make you hurt the way she does. she wants to kill you for how you made her love you and then you're making her stop. but of course, she can't stop. how could she ever not love you? you take her face in your hands and she melts, she slumps away. she tries to deny it to herself (of course you still love her!) but it feels like she's ripping away, like just a small gust of wind could strip her away to her skeleton.
bleakly, in her haze, she wonders if there's someone else. someone else who's stolen your gaze as she once did, who you think about at night and whisper stolen words into their ears. but then she thinks about you, and she realizes that would not be the case. you would be doing it because you would think that she wanted it, that she wanted space.
you kiss her cheek, and she thinks numbly, maybe if she was better at love, this wouldn't happen.
childe |
childe had never thrown himself into love as fervently as he did with yours. you could make him smile when he felt like he was dying, and your laugh had taken up a space in his brain reserved specifically for you.
he loved how the light dappling across your face could bathe you in such an ethereal glow, as if you were blessed by the archons. and, he guessed, sometimes you were. it's uncanny, the way your face showed no emotion as you took his hand and whispered, i think we need a break. his heart had shattered then, into a million pieces that dissolved into his body. maybe he could never fix it.
he stares at you, so blankly, you wonder maybe if he hasn't heard you. then he says, what? so softly, so sadly, it almost splits your soul apart. he thinks, probably, that no one will make him as happy as you did. perhaps he will never be happy again. this thought scares him, it rattles him, he never wants to forget your face.
he's never cried over someone before, but he does now. and the sight of his tears shock you, as if you've been dumped into an ice-cold bath and can't breathe. he's sobbing, hands curled into tight fists, waving you away, telling you to just go, please go, please, please go. you don't want to leave him, but you know his sadness will turn to anger and he will lash out. you press a kiss to his temple and he shouts, fuck off! fuck off and go!
as he watches you go, he thinks that simply "fuck off" might be too kind.

Hey, I like your writing. Would it be alright if we get Ganyu and Hu Tao with a pre-S/o who obviously has a crush on them but is to shy to confess their feeling. So it's up to them to take initiative. Thank you.
Them with a reader that’s too shy to confess their obvious crush to them
characters: Hu Tao / Ganyu / Keqing x gn!reader (separate)
warnings: none, just fluff
a/n: I decided to add Keqing because I feel like I haven't written for her in a long time, and frankly, because I could.
If there's something I got wrong about your request, feel free to say and I'll try again once i find the motivation/time to.
Anyway, hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
Hu Tao
While, at this point, most people would think that Hu Tao had no idea how to read a room, the funeral director was confident in saying that their theory couldn’t be more false, as she simply chose to ignore it whenever she could. So when you started acting increasingly shy and nervous around her, she was quick to pick up on your behavior. And once she noticed how you were acting, her discovering why was already on the horizon.
Of course Hu Tao used this gained knowledge to sort things out for the two of you. Or at least she will… eventually. After she got her fun first.
The longer you stared at the lines of the poem Hu Tao had handed you, the more of a weird feeling you got in your stomach. It was unusual enough for her to write anything that wasn’t at least 50% meant as a joke, so when you saw that it was about love you wished for nothing more than to either sink into the ground or wake up from this awkward scenario.
What didn’t help was the fact that she continued to stare at you with a grin the whole time, not seeming to blink once whenever you stole a quick glance towards her.
“Uhm”, you tried to find the right words to start, only for Hu Tao to cut you off.
“Is there a problem?”, she asked, almost sounding genuine, if it weren’t for her grin growing bigger.
“Don’t take this the wrong way, but why didn’t you choose anyone else to proofread this?”, you nervously asked, seeing her playfully tilt her head from the corner of your eye.
“Who else should I hand it to? Xingqiu? Nothing against him, but he really isn’t made for criticizing romantic poetry”, she was quick to respond, letting out a small yawn as the first sunrails made their way towards you, causing you to realize how long it was since she had dragged you out here.
“And I am better at talking about these kinds of texts for what reason?”, you asked with all the sarcasm you could muster, both of you knowing damn well how bad you were with any material about romance.
“Your reactions are funny”, she stated almost matter of factly while raising her pointer finger and pointing at a specific verse in the poem, looking at you expectedly. “Reread this once more and tell me if there’s something to change”, she demanded, causing your eyes to scan those words once again, only for the realization that the person described shared a lot of features with you… Almost too many for this whole thing to be a coincidence.
Before you had a chance to say anything however, Hu Tao snatched the paper out of your hands, giving you a smile before playfully patting your shoulder.
“Oh no, it seems like a new morning has dawned, which means that a new day of work lies ahead of us, so sorry that I have to cut this short all of a sudden”, she feigned sadness, only to give you one of her usual mischievous smiles. “But hey, if you need to tell me anything, you know where to find me.”
Tumblr media
Ganyu
When you first began acting awkwardly around Ganyu, going so far as to avoid looking her in the eyes, the more anxious side of her began worrying she may have unintentionally done something that caused your behavior, only for you to blush whenever she mentioned it before trying to assure her that everything was fine.
It was only after one specific, purple haired coworker of hers started to notice the way you two acted around each other and decided that enough was enough, that Ganyu was confronted with the possibility of you having caught feelings. And while the intention of revealing your somewhat obvious crush was to make the half Adeptus stop worrying too much, it turned out to have the exact opposite effect as Ganyu also began to turn into a nervous wreck whenever she was around you.
Taking the initiative in situations like these never was something Ganyu was all too fond of, her own anxiety not exactly helping in making things easier. Nevertheless here she was, waiting for you to meet her as she requested, doubts about this whole thing quickly starting to invade her mind, only for her to try and shake them off once she saw your form in the distance.
“Good morning Ganyu!”, you greeted her, a smile on your face as you made your way over to her, completely oblivious to how much of an anxious wreck she was at the moment.
Or at least you were until she presented you with a rose, barely managing to look you in the eyes as the color of her face started to turn into the same shade of red as the flower.
“I-I’ve heard of a nearly opened shop that sells beautiful flowers, so I wanted to… buy you one”, she mumbled just loud enough for you to hear, the sudden change in atmosphere causing you to start blushing as well, slowly taking the rose out of her hand, making sure not to sting yourself on any of its thorns.
“T-Thanks, I would have brought something with me too if I knew you bought me something. Please excuse me for a minute, I’ll get you something”, you offered, trying your best to get out before your nervousness took over completely, only to stop when you heard Ganyu speak up again.
“Wait!”, she almost yelled, immediately stopping herself once she realized how loud she was, lowering her voice drastically.
“There’s something I wanted to tell you.”
Tumblr media
Keqing
No matter what way she looked at it, Keqing couldn’t help but feel slightly infuriated. You were her secretary, the first one to hold out for such a long time at that, so why were you spending less and less time around her, preferring to pretend to be busy running errands around the office?
This wasn’t jealousy that was speaking of course, it wasn’t like she started to enjoy having you around her at work so much that she couldn’t help but feel lonely whenever you weren’t, but if you had a problem with her, you should simply tell her that face to face instead of trying to run away.
And so, the Yuheng decided to ambush you somewhere private, fully intending to resolve whatever issues you had in a direct way.
“O-oh Keqing. Is there something you need?”, you asked, nearly jumping as Keqing appeared from behind the corner, cutting off your way suddenly enough that you nearly ran into her..
“Yes. I need you”, she stated, her tone sounding slightly frustrated, only for her eyes to slightly widen once she realized that her words could be taken another way, quickly adding a few more. “-to do your job as my secretary.”
While Keqing may have been full of resolve when she set out to confront you, the longer she had to wait for you, the more she began to actually fear what could happen. What if you really had a problem with her? Would you resign? Did you not enjoy working together as much as she did? At this point it was fair to say that she was feeling somewhat nervous, increasingly hoping that this all turned out to be some kind of misunderstanding.
“I can’t help but feel like you're avoiding me. Even now I had to basically ambush you to get you to even speak to me”, she explained while crossing her arms, checking your face for any reactions before taking a deep breath and continuing, “If you have a problem with me, just say it”, Keqing tried her best to continue her confident facade, only for it to slowly giving way with each and every word, her nervousness making its way onto her face.
“I don’t have a problem with you”, you quickly blurted out, only to almost instantly be cut off by the Yuheng.
“Then what is it?”
Her question almost instantly managed to shut you up, causing you to look around nervously as you tried your best to find the right words to continue with. Eventually letting out a long sigh as you closed your eyes in defeat.
“Could we go somewhere more private? I… have some things I need you to know.”

Yandere! Occult club member! Hu Tao
Admirer profile
🥀Hu Tao grew up being exposed to death alongside the collective sorrows that come with it. Since her family was well known for their funeral parlor as their Moto was to always respect the wishes of the dead.
🥀As she grew older she became obsessed with the concept of death as it fascinated her from how all things can come to an end in a flash. Taking from example the unexpected car accident her parents got into that lead her to becoming the next head Director of the business.
🥀The unfortunate incident taught her the significance of living life to the fullest as the inevitable end would always grow near. So when she enrolled at the institution she joined the occult club so that she can witness the essence of death in all its grim glory.
🥀Some may find her morbid upbeat nature a bit odd and take it the wrong way. thanks to that she had a tough time making friends who’ll stick around. So when she met you she was so happy she could almost die.
🥀Even if you were entertaining her for the time being she was thankful for having someone around. And should you manage to completely win over her heart, the things she’d do for you would be the following…
🥀 She’d gladly sabotage someone who gives you any trouble through the usage of “innocent” fun pranks since she’s known to be a bit of a hyperactive prankster.
🥀Her pranks range from harmless to dangerous but it’s only dangerous if she feels as if the image of death is being disrespected or if you tell her ahead of time that you’re in a big pinch.
🥀She’ll also play pranks on you from time to time to catch you off guard but for the most part they’ll be harmless ranging from jump scares to misplacing your things. Until she decides to up the ante should she feel that you’ve been neglecting her.
🥀 She’s exceptionally good at composing poems as one of her hobbies so if you need help in any subjects pertaining to English she’ll help you boost your study points!
🥀There’s a potential chance that she may give you access into her funeral parlor and invite you to help her do some questionable things in secrecy. If her trust in you is high enough.
🥀Hu Tao is a fun person to be around despite her brash eccentric behavior. She’ll often try to take you for an adventure if you let her! Although it may be a treacherous journey, it’s can be very rewarding if you make it out alive.

HU TAO
Tumblr media
It all started when you were kids.
You had always thought Hu Tao was… strange, from the very first moment you saw her in class. She was a creepy, weird girl who hated school—even if she was a prodigy. She often left class early after completing all of her (in her words to the teacher, easy) classwork—and then she ran off to the Wangsheng funeral parlor to do only Archons knew what.
You had asked Granny Ping about Hu Tao and the funeral parlor, and she seemed pleasantly surprised at the question. Looking back on it, you wonder why you chose to approach Ping. It's not like you knew her all that well, but at the time it seemed like the right choice. You almost regretted it though, when she asked you if you were trying to become friends with Hu Tao. You explained it away as simple curiosity, and that’s when Ping sat you down and told you of Hu Tao’s family business.
You learned that the Wangsheng funeral parlor was an organization founded in the time of the Archon War. Ping retold the tales of a plague which swept over Liyue; and how the funeral parlor’s work in disposing of the fallen citizens was the key to saving the land.
It was… kind of cool, to be honest.
It's strange to think that these saviors of Liyue were ancestors to the bookish, meek Hu Tao; especially considering she was not revered and respected as they were. Not in any capacity at all, really.
In fact, your classmates bullied Hu Tao. They somehow pulled at her already cropped hair, ruined her books, taunted her with mean names. You never did these things, but that didn't stop your silent dislike of the weird girl who would rather be friends with corpses than her own classmates.
Disliking Hu Tao was easy. It was expected. And yet...
You remember one day, after school was finished and everyone was packing up their things—Hu Tao was still there. She sat at her desk silently, almost ghostly quiet. Practically everyone had rushed out before she had a chance to. You noticed a twig tangled in her short brown hair. Someone had probably been hitting her with discarded tree branches again, and the remnants of that bullying stayed tangled in her already messy locks.
You couldn't see her eyes, as they were pointed down at the closed book cover on her desk. Her bangs hung over her face, but you could still see the remnants of tears on her cheeks.
A weird, almost unwelcome feeling wells up within you.
"Come on, y/n, let’s go play!" One of your 'friends' shouted to you, edging closer to the classroom door. You wouldn't exactly call her a friend, more like a companion who accompanied you during school.
Memories flash through your head of this particular girl laughing along with Hu Tao's bullies.
"Go without me," You say, packing up your things as slowly and methodically as possible. Your 'friend' left with another muttered phrase. You didn't care enough to listen.
You and Hu Tao were alone.
She sat in her desk chair, not making an effort to be rid of the school building. Even the instructor had left, asking you to clean up the books piled onto your desk. As you slowly placed them in their proper place, Hu Tao was still quiet.
You got up, packing away your own personal books into your school bag. Books. Hu Tao read those a lot, didn't she?
You swing the strap of your bag over your shoulder, walking over to the strange girl. Before you even realize what you're doing, you pull the twig out of Hu Tao's hair.
Her strangely colored eyes widen in shock, her head turning to face you. You stand there like an idiot, fingers clenching around the archons-forsaken twig.
"You're a weirdo," You say to Hu Tao, because you honestly don't know what else to say. You're eight years old, still a child without knowledge of the world.
Hu Tao's silence is stiff, and she once again turns away from you.
"But that doesn't matter." You step away from her, approaching the classroom door. "Don't let them bully you just because you're brave enough to be who you are, okay?"
As you turn only slightly to shut the door behind you—you notice Hu Tao has a strange expression on her face. Awestruck may be the big word you would use to describe it.
Tumblr media
SHENHE
Tumblr media
Shenhe is ten years old, and she did not like to think of what her life was like before she was the apprentice of Cloud Retainer.
Her master told her that it was unhealthy to dwell on the sorrows of the past, and so Shenhe found herself never thinking back on any of it—lest the bad memories seep forwards first. The red ropes helped her mind focus on things that weren't sad, and she preferred it that way. It's been a very long time since tears had stained her pillow, and she knows her master is proud of her for it.
But sometimes, when the weather is too reminiscent and the memories of black hair covered with red become too much—Shenhe walks.
She walks, and she walks, until her legs cannot move anymore. These instances are the few times in which she edges the border between Mt. Hulao and the rest of Liyue.
Now, she shudders as she takes another step forward, her feet seeping into the muddied ground. It was raining, it's still raining, and there's a girl at the base of the mountain, crying and trembling whilst curled into a little ball.
It was the first time Shenhe saw you, and the first thought which popped into her head was;
What an idiot.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ 🔖
The strange looking girl approached you with trained steps, and yet the mud sloshing below her alerted you to her presence. Your head shoots up in alarm, tears mixing with straying rainwater as your eyes look up to meet the stranger’s. She looks at you with hardly concealed annoyance, and that almost makes you want to cry harder.
“Get up,” She says, voice cold and seemingly unfeeling. You recoil at her words, but you get up nonetheless, sensing a great deal of knowledge radiating from this girl. She seemed wise beyond her years.
“Are you an adeptus? You're here to help me find my way home?” You ask with wide eyes, wonder replacing your fear.
“...Just come on,” The adeptus bites out, turning and walking off onto the path; likely waiting for you to follow.
You fall into step behind her, hands holding your discarded coat above your head in a desperate attempt to shield yourself from the rain. You would have tried to shield her as well, but the girl walked a little bit ahead of you—as if she was trying to cause distance.
While you were contemplating this strange adeptus and her unusual yet helpful behavior, you managed to not notice a particularly large puddle hiding a hole on the edge of the path. Your foot fell into it, causing you to stumble, and you would have fallen into the ditch beside the road if the adeptus didn't catch your hand; yanking you back onto the safety of the dirt path.
“Pay attention,” She hisses, yet her hand is not harsh where she grabs your own. You blink once, confused at the obvious softness in which this cold looking girl holds your hand.
“I think… I think it would be best if you hold my hand the rest of the way back!” You claim, confidence lacing your voice even if the request is positively embarrassing. You were a big girl now at ten years old, and yet you wanted this adeptus who appears to be your own age to hold your hand so you don't fall!
You can't see the other girl’s face, as she's turned away from you, but she doesn't let go. If anything, her hand tightens just a fraction more.
You get the feeling that she has not felt something like this in a long time, and the thought makes a frown bloom on your face. Holding her hand all the way back to Liyue Harbor may not erase the sadness obviously present in this girl, but at this moment you swore to yourself one thing—you would befriend this adeptus, and make her happy.
Of course, it was only as a repayment for her kindness, and not because your heart thumped a little harder in your chest whenever she looked at you. Definitely.

NINGGUANG
Tumblr media
Ningguang was not born with the wealth she so desperately adores.
Nowadays, people look at their Tianquan with unbridled awe and fascination. But also, lurking under their praises and wonder, is a burning curiosity. They don't know much about her personal life… at all, really.
Perhaps if they remembered the child she used to be, they would understand the person Ningguang grew up to be. Sadly for them though, you were the only one to have that privilege.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ 🔖
The first time you had seen Ningguang was when you were a child wandering the port of Liyue Harbor, admiring the shops and the many people dotting the area. The size of your wallet had attracted many vendors to you, and in your childlike innocence you didn't notice how much you were being swindled.
“Half priced jewelry for today, my lady! Only 20,000 mora for this beautiful necklace!”
“Oh look at you sweetheart, I bet you would look lovely with this imported kimono from Inazuma. What say 100,000 mora for a renting fee?”
“The prices on the board are actually outdated, my apologies! The actual price for this premium fish is 15,000 mora more than the fee posted.”
Perhaps if you were with your parents, you would have noticed how badly obvious these vendors were with their tricks. But sadly, you were not, and so you approached the area you planned to meet your parents at with a lighter wallet and a heavy frown.
However, before you could approach your parents, a girl outside of the famed Liuli Pavilion stopped you.
“Hello young lady! Would you like to try some samples of our famed dishes? Only 10,000 mora for the first sample!”
Initially, you had shied away from her plate of samples, a light decline leaving your lips. You were tired and weary, completely over the prodding and poking of vendors you had been dealing with all day.
“Oh, but you simply must try these. I'll even lower the price to 9,000!” She chortled, pushing the place closer to your face.
Your head was beginning to pound with a roaring headache, and so you decided to give into her insistence, prying open your coin purse with reluctant fingers.
“Excuse me, but I believe you offered me the same sample at a price of only 700 mora,” A new voice pipes up, and your head turns to be greeted with the sight of a stranger. “Was this a mistake on your part?”
The pavilion worker stumbled with her response, “I—well…”
The girl who had saved your wallet sighed at the swiftness of her own victory, and she looked over to you with startlingly mature eyes—considering she seemed to be your own age. Her clothes were dirty and wrinkled, and you wondered how a girl so knowledgeable seemed to be so unfortunate.
“Let me lead you to your destination, lest you be accosted by another person trying to take advantage of your money and kindness.” She says, glaring at the sample lady all the while, and you nod slowly; surprised at the helpfulness of this stranger.
As she walked away from the stunned pavilion worker, you walked alongside her, a light blush for some reason coating your cheeks. It truly was kind of her to save you from that situation.
“You are a foreigner, correct?” The girl asks suddenly.
“Ah, yes…” You reply, stunned out of your own thoughts. “I came to visit Liyue with my parents.”
“I apologize if it hasn't lived up to your expectations, I know some shopkeepers around here revel in extorting tourists.”
A smile makes its way onto your face. “I'm only thankful you were there to help. I wish to repay you somehow.”
When you begin digging into your coin purse once again, the girl holds up a hand in protest, eyes closed with a sophisticated air that does not match her dirtied appearance.
“I will not accept a monetary gift for something as simple as this,” She says, face perfectly blank. “please understand.”
Your smile drops. “Then… how am I supposed to repay you for your kindness? You must allow me to reward you!”
“I do not have to allow you to do anything,” She says, and the sharpness of her words stuns you. You stop walking, planting your feet into the ground as you yank a singular mora out of your purse.
“If you will not accept a monetary gift… then take this as a token of my gratitude.”
She is obviously confused at your words, eyes narrowing in trepidation. “That is still mora.”
“I'm not giving this to you as a coin. Instead, see it as… a symbol of our new friendship!”
Neither of you speak for a moment, and you're scared that you said something utterly ridiculous when... the girl suddenly smile at you. She hadn't smiled yet, so the action makes you feel breathless. She takes the coin from your trembling fingers, holding it closely to her form.
“Thank you very much, friend.”
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ 🔖
Years later, some of her secretaries may note that in her rare times of stress, Ningguang could be seen balancing a singular mora along her knuckles. She stared at it longingly, even affectionately. Her secretaries also often noticed it was the same look she would give letters from an unknown source.
Many often wonder who those letters were from, and why she seemed to adore that old coin so deeply. She did not let the answer be spoken out loud, often brushing it off whenever anyone asked.
They may not know of your importance to Ningguang, but she knows. And that's all that matters to the Tianquan of Liyue.

| "Cmon (Y/N), let's take a stroll through Liyue together." |
[Hu Tao x GN! Reader]
Tumblr media
TW/CW + Tags: None. [No established relationship, with Hu Tao having a crush on the reader. GN! Reader]
Summary: Taking a calm evening stroll with Hu Tao through Liyue Harbor. Along the way, she reveals something she's been wanting to tell you..
[(A/N): Alright! This wasn't a request, but I really wanted to write something for my favorite ghost lady. Hope yall will enjoy it!]
Tumblr media
It was a regular evening at Liyue Harbor. Throughout the day, the port would be bustling and filled with all different kinds of people. Children causing mischief at the port, traders and vendors calling out their offers, and Millelith guards standing at their stations, keeping an eye out to maintain order. However, besides the Millelith of course, everyone else had gone home for the day. Bright orange lanterns lit up the streets and it was much more quiet and serene than it was a few hours earlier.
You had just finished commissions for the day and were passing by the Adventurers' Guild to collect your rewards from Katheryne. Once you do and Katheryne lets you go for the day, you find yourself strolling down Chihu Rock.
Most windows were dark. Some weren't and illuminated your path. You don't really go on walks through the city since you usually feel burnt out or you're super busy with the Guild. So why now of all times? ...Probably the quiet surroundings and pretty lanterns.
Crossing the bridge from Chihu Rock to Feiyun Slope, you feel a cool whoosh gently brush your back. Whirling your body around, you see nothing. Huh. Probably just the breeze, you think to yourself. As soon as you thought everything was fine, a certain familiar figure suddenly jumps in front of you and you halt immediately in your tracks. Hu Tao.
"Boo!! I certainly did not except to find you here at this time of night (Y/N)!"
"Geez Hu Tao!! Quit scaring me like that, you nearly gave me a heart attack!"
"O-ya? Aw, don't be so boring," Hu Tao says with a smug look on her face. "I admit, I found your horrified face to be very amusing! Definitely the highlight of my day."
The two of you share a small laugh, the air soon becoming quiet again. "So, what brings you here out here at this time of night?" Hu Tao asks and slightly tilts her head. You reply, "Well, I had just finished my commissions with the Adventurers' Guild. So I figured I'd take an evening walk to unwind."
You look down slightly at the floor and ask, "Well what about you Hu Tao? Though I should have known that you'd be taking your evening walk." Hu Tao claps her hands together with a small smile and says, "Bingo! Right as always, (Y/N)." Then she folds her arms and says, "But this time, it feels a lot more boring than usual." Hu Tao makes a boop noise as she touches your nose. "Luckily it's not so dull anymore now that I've managed to spot you!"
You let out a sheepish giggle along with a light blush. "Well I guess that's good for you then." You turn your head to look out to the sky, seeing it much darker than it already was before. "Sheesh, it's getting a bit late for me Hu Tao. I should probably—"
"Oh but (Y/N)! I just got to finally catch up to you," Hu Tao pouts.
"But it's far too late! I should be going off to sleep at this hour."
"Aw, please? The moon tonight is too pretty to miss, and I'd like for you to see it with me."
You glance at Hu Tao for a moment. The look in her eyes is practically begging for you to join her. That's when you feel the warmth of another hand hold onto yours. "Cmon (Y/N), let's take a stroll through Liyue together."
Hu Tao's hand is soft and warm, like a cozy blanket next to a warm fire. Yet, it's sort-of moist. Is she nervous? Why though?
You sigh softly, before replying, "..Alright. I'll join you." Hu Tao's eyes light up like a xiao lantern. "Perfect! Let's get a move on dear friend, ehehe!"
As you two walk and talk, Hu Tao continues to tightly hold your hand the whole way. You did tell her that she didn'tq need to hold your hand, but Hu Tao insists regardless. I mean, who are you to deny her? It's just her being a sweet friend, right?
[Time skip..]
It's been about...one hour at most? The two of you were walking around the south wharf for a bit with Hu Tao pranking you a few times. But after a while, Hu Tao had other plans and ended up dragging you to sit with her towards the end of the docks.
The night was cool, the reflection of the moon was painted onto the sea, and the smell of the salty and moist sea water filled the air.
"It's beautiful, isn't it (Y/N)?" Hu Tao says, still haven't let go of your hand.
"Yeah, it really is. I never take the time to appreciate the beauty of the moon. Though spending time with you makes this experience even better."
Hu Tao smiles softly under her breath, both of you falling silent. After a good while, Hu Tao speaks up. "So (Y/N), there's actually a bit of a reason why I dragged you with me."
You turn your attention away from the moon to look at her. "Oh? What's the reason then?" You feel Hu Tao's fingers fiddling with yours, before she responds, "I have...felt something unique about you. Something I've never really felt with anyone else but you."
Your face quickly changes to one of surprise. Wait, is she—
"I admit! I-I like you, (Y/N)! More than just a friend," Hu Tao finally blurts out, holding your hand tighter. "And, I was hoping that, you know...would like to be my partner?"
At first, you're stunned. And quite flattered. You never would have thought that Hu Tao, the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor Director, would even feel that interested in you to confess. But amiss all of the shock you're feeling, you smile.
"I'd love to, Hu Tao. I'd love to go out with you."
Oh, you wish you could replay this exact moment. Because the second you see her face light up and the tears pricking at her eyes, you feel like you're on cloud nine for making her feel like the luckiest girl in all of Teyvat.

MIKO
As a young kitsune, Miko was unable to transform into her human form due to a lack of strength and natural willpower. So, it was common for the yokai to be seen wandering around the shrine as a small fox, eating little snacks given to her by the shrine maidens, and terrorizing tiny children like the menace she was.
You’ve heard stories of a pink fox roaming the Narukami Shrine, but you didn’t think much of it when you sat down at a nearby bench to enjoy your lunch. Pulling out a small packet of your favorite chips, you tore it open before hearing a slight, rustling sound coming from within the bushes.
Rustle rustle rustle.
You looked up to see one of the bushes in front of you moving, the branches shaking wildly before something pink and fluffy tumbled out from below.
A pink, fluffy, fox.
Miko had stumbled out of the plant with her fur all messy and tousled with leaves. A small yip leaving her mouth, as she shook like a wet dog and growled. Oh no, you’ve heard of this fox before. This was the terror of the Narukami Shrine, the infamous child attacker of Inazuma, the one, the only:
Yae Miko.
She sneezed as leaves blew out of her fur, before twitching her nose at the smell of your food. Once she caught a whiff of what you had in your lap, her eyes narrowed and she started glaring at you. Damn, even as a child, Miko still had that intimidating glare that could put an archon in their place, intimidating you with just a scowl before strutting up to you with confidence.
“…Hello?” You timidly say, looking down at the fox with worry. “You’re…you’re the fox that attacks kids, right? Please don’t hurt me, I’m just trying to eat my lunch.”
She narrowed her eyes at you. Even though she couldn’t speak, it felt like she was degrading you.
“…Uhm. Do you want some? I can give you some if you like.”
Her tummy grumbled at an embarrassing time, causing her to only flatten her ears.
“…Okay.” You timidly reached into your bag and pulled out a small chip. Hesitantly, you held it out to her and waited for her to crawl up to you. “I hope it’s not that salty. I know kitsune taste buds can be pretty sensitive, so it’s okay if you don’t like it—”
She lunged forward to sniff the chip before biting onto it and gnawing like a dog. Cronch cronch cronch. She had crumbs spill all over the floor, but she seemed pretty satisfied overall, looking up at you for more. “Oh! Do you want some more?” She nodded, her tail starting to wag. “I can give you more, then!”
You ended up sharing half your lunch with the kitsune. Throwing her whatever you found in your lunchbox, and watching her devour it on the floor of the shrine. After a while, she seemed to have taken a liking to you and jumped on the bench beside you to lie down, letting out a content, purring noise. After that little interaction, you started coming to the shrine more often to feed and hang out with the little fox. Weeks passing by of this little friendship, you didn’t think your routine would change until one, fateful, day.
As you climbed up the steps leading to your favorite spot, you saw not the fox you’ve grown so accustomed to, but a small, pink haired girl around your age. She was waiting patiently on the bench you always sat at, before her ear twitched, indicating that she noticed you.
Turning around, she had those same lilac eyes as your little foxy friend, as  they glimmered in a way that felt so familiar to you the more you stared.
“Finally, you came!” The girl said exasperatedly, folding her arms and pouting at you. “I was waiting all day! You keep a girl hungry, you know.”
“I— sorry?” You looked so confused when she ran up to you and grabbed your lunch. “Hey—!”
“So, what did you bring this time? Fried tofu for Friday? I hope so…”
“Hey! Those are for my fox friend!” You exclaimed, snatching your lunchbox back. “I don’t even know you!”
“Are you dumb? I am your fox friend!” The girl yelled back, tugging the lunchbox back. “It’s me, Yae Miko!”
“Miko?!” Your eyes widened and you took a step back. No way, how could this bratty and sassy child be Yae Miko? “No way…”
“Yes way! I was able to transform into my human form the other night. I’m strong enough now!” She grinned proudly and showed off her canine teeth. Although a bit bratty and too overconfident, you could tell it was actually her due to her unique markings and fluffy, pink, ears. “Now, hand over the tofu! I’ve been waiting all week for this!”
You pouted and handed her the takeout box with tofu inside. “…Fine.”
She grinned and looked at you smugly before taking the carton out of your hands. “Thank you…!” She began eating with the elegance of a toddler before pausing her chewing mid way. “By the way, since I can talk now, I’ve been wanting to ask you something.”
“Huh?” You gasped when she suddenly jumped on top of you and looked at you with those curious eyes.
“I’ve decided I want to marry you when we get older.”
“What?!”
She smiled at you before hugging you close. Wanting to feel you in a way that had your little heart beating. “You heard me, I want to marry you! That way, you’ll feed me yummy food forever!” She exclaimed, staring at you in a way you couldn’t refuse. “Please?”
“I— o-okay…” your tiny kid's heart didn’t have the guts to refuse, so the moment you said yes, Miko smiled and nuzzled you close. “Hurray! Now you can feed me fried tofu for the rest of our lives!”
If only you knew, she would marry you for reasons other than fried tofu…

HU TAO
Funerals were typically held on rainy days like in the movies, so why was yours held on such a bright and sunny day?
You stared at the coffin in front of you with regret, regret for not being with your grandmother more, as she passed away in her sleep due to old age. The funeral was directed by Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, which meant you had an untimely encounter with the director’s eccentric granddaughter.
She was so…strangely upbeat. Of course, she paid her respects to the dead, mourning in a way to convey her sadness. But she was still quite the spunky one and you couldn’t help but get irritated at how nonchalant she was.
There she was, prancing around the funeral giving jolly orders like it was nothing. You knew it was a part of her job, but did she really have to be so happy about it? You were slightly annoyed and went to sit by the pond to take a breather, pulling at the itchy black clothes your parents made you wear, before feeling the tears well up in your eyes.
“Grandma…” your tiny voice trembled, sniffing and wiping away your tears, trying your best not to cry in front of all your family members.
“Yoo-hoo? Does someone need a tissue?” You heard a voice call, gentle footsteps walking up from behind and dangling a napkin in front of your face. “Better wipe up that runny nose, your face is too cute to be all snotty!”
“Hu Tao…” you frowned, taking her offered napkin and looking away. “Please go away, I’m not in the mood to play right now…”
Her face softened at the sight of you trying to hide your tears. Shamelessly trying to wipe your runny nose while hiding the fact that you were crying. “Okay…I guess I’ll go…”
Before she could leave however, your hand instinctively reached out to grab her sleeve, tugging her back. “No wait, I…” you grimaced and stared down at the floor. “I’m sorry, please stay…” Even though you were still annoyed, you still wanted the comfort of another person. Even if that person was Hu Tao.
“Oh? Ah, okay…” Hu Tao immediately sat down beside you and looked at you with worry. “…Your eyes are really puffy, you know.”
“I know.” You mumble tiredly, wiping your nose with your sleeve and staring at the water. “I haven’t cried like this in a while.”
“Understandable. I mean, your grandma pa—” she stopped herself from saying more before slowly hugging her knees. “Ah…sorry.”
“It’s okay.” You mutter, a deafening silence overcoming you two. “You’re just trying to help.”
Another awkward silence. Usually Hu Tao was more talkative when it came to the two of you, but right now she was quiet as she sat down beside you and picked at the grass. While the adults in the background talked amongst themselves, Hu Tao finally snapped out of it and reached a hand out for you to take.
“…Hug?” She asked softly, opening her arms like a baby bear cub.
“…Hug.” You say quietly, moving over to hug her while trying your best not to sob all over her shoulder. “There there. No need to hold back.” Hu Tao says reassuringly, squeezing you tightly. “You can snot over my shirt if you want. I have others.”
“No, ew.” You chuckle through your sobs. “That’s disgusting.”
“Well, I don’t mind if it makes you feel better…” she murmurs against your ear. “I don’t like seeing you so upset.”
“I don’t normally get so upset, sorry…”
“No, it’s okay. I just want to cheer you up.”
She patted your back comfortingly, before placing her hat on top of your head. “You know, I wish we could hang out more often. You seem like a pretty cool kid.” She smiles brightly at you before pulling away from the hug. “I wanna be with you more! Not just at the funeral parlor.”
“Sniff, really?” You blinked your tears away and looked up at her.
“Really.” She says with a smile, cupping your hands. “…Actually, I have an idea!”
She plucked a dandelion sprout from the ground and got down on one knee, holding out the flower to your face. “Let’s get married when we’re older! That way, I can cheer you up whenever we’re together!”
Your face flushed at the sudden proposal and you immediately panicked. “Ah, wait! Aren’t marriages a serious thing? Don’t you have to be in love for that to happen?”
“Pfft! Who cares? Marriages make people happy, so I wanna make you happy too…”
She slipped the dandelion between your ear and smiled, giving you a smile you would soon see walking down the altar…

DEHYA
You ran down the streets of your hometown, trying to avoid all the bullies chasing your tail and diving down random alleyways to lose them as quickly as possible. Unfortunately for you however, you found yourself at a dead end with nowhere else to go, a bunch of big kids getting ready to make you their next target, as they took the liberty of picking up rocks to throw at you.
“Ah, come on! Can’t you leave me alone just this once?” You looked aggravated and fearful for your life, backing up against the hardened brick wall that led to your demise. “Don’t you get tired of picking on me all the time? Find something else to do!”
Your desperate pleas fell on deaf ears as they got ready to launch their rocks. You sighed and crouched down on the ground, trying to cover your head for the inevitable pain you were going to feel.
“Okay, just please make it quick…”
You squeezed your eyes shut and resisted the urge to cry, bracing yourself for the impact that…strangely never came?
Instead, you heard the loud yells of a rugged and tomboyish girl, the sounds of kids screaming in fear, before footsteps sprinted away from you. The sounds slowly grew quieter and quieter, leaving you to open your eyes and see a pretty, short-haired girl standing in front of you.
“They’re gone now, I chased them away for you.” Was all she said before extending her hand out. “Are you okay? Did they hit you or anything?”
Your cheeks flushed hot at the sight of her trying to help you, as the girl was very pretty and the way she was staring at you with those piercing blue eyes made your heart leap with relief. What was this feeling? Could it be? Did you finally develop one of those things called crushes?
You realized she was still staring at you and shook your head no.
“Ah, no…they didn’t.” You slowly took her hand and stood up. “I’m okay, thanks.”
“You sure? Your knee looks pretty bad.”
You looked down to see what she was pointing at and sure enough, you had somehow scraped your knee during the chase. “Oh, I guess I didn’t notice…” you brushed off some sand that had gotten on it and winced. “Don’t worry, it’s just a scrape. It’ll heal.”
“Not if it gets infected.” She huffs, grabbing your hand with her own. Wow, even for a kid as young as you, she sure was strong. “Come on, I’ll take you back to my tent. My name’s Dehya by the way.”
She tugs you down to follow her to her camp and makes you sit down, grabbing all the medical supplies her arms could carry before setting them down in front of you.
“Uhm, do you know how to use these? Only grownups should use alcohol.” You scrunched up your nose at the sight, causing Dehya to laugh beautifully.
“Pfft, you’re thinking of the wrong kind of alcohol,” she grins, applying some on a piece of gauze. “That’s drinking alcohol, it’s the kind that makes grownups all dizzy and say funny things. This is rubbing alcohol.”
She gently applies the gauze to your scrape and watches you hiss in pain. The moment she sees tears well up in your eyes though, she immediately grabs your hand.
“Ah—! I’m sorry, but this has to be done! My dad told me you have to disinfect wounds so you don’t get germs on it!” She squeezed your hand in comfort, helping you push through the pain before setting the gauze down to begin bandaging you. “I know it hurts, but adults go through scary injuries all the time and have to go through the same thing. You can be brave for me, right?”
She looks up at you with those piercing blue eyes and you couldn’t bring yourself to say no.
“Hah! That’s the spirit!” She smiles and finishes wrapping up your knee. “There, all done! Can you walk?”
You shakily got up on wobbly knees before almost falling backwards, if not for Dehya instinctively catching you. “…Huh. Seems like you need a bit more recovery.”
She helps you sit back down before frowning after a few moments. “Actually, I have to ask, how long have you been bullied by those bigger kids?”
“Ah, for a little while…” you mumble in response, hiding your face in shame. “It’s okay, they’ll get bored of me eventually.”
“Eventually?” Dehya’s face furrowed with anger. “No! I’m not gonna let them keep bullying you! You deserve better!” She huffs and grabs your hand, before dramatically getting down on one knee. “I’m going to protect you till the end of time. My dad said that you should always protect those who can’t protect themselves, so I’m doing that for you!”
“But—”
She looked at you with such fiery determination and you shut up immediately.
“No buts. I’ve decided I’m going to stick with you for as long as I can.” She smiled and held your hands, leaning in close with a grin. “Perhaps we’ll even get married…”
Your eyes widened at the idea. Married to Dehya? I mean, it’s not like you were opposed to it…
“Married? Oh, uh, alright….” Dehya smiled and patted your head.
“Good. I’ll make sure you’re safe as long as you’re with me.”
She bows down to you like a knight would before taking your hand and kissing it.
“That’s what a good wife does after all…”

NINGGUANG
Due to living in poverty, little tiny Ningguang had to make a living by selling seashells on the beach. She didn’t have time to play with the other kids, or go eat lunch with them by the pier, so she ended up not having a lot of friends to talk to, due to her poor upbringing and determination for money.
She would’ve ended up alone if not for you, a humble, yet curious child who took interest in what Ningguang wanted to sell. They were mostly handmade wares and shells she found lying on the beach, so there wasn’t really anything of high value. Despite that however, you were intrigued, and moved a little closer to take a look at what Ningguang had to offer.
She noticed you, standing up abruptly to present whatever she thought would interest you. “You seem rather enveloped by my jewelry,” Ningguang says, lifting up one of the trays of rings. “They’re all handcrafted and personally made by me. The pearls you see are freshly harvested from oysters found by the Liyue docks.”
She looked proud of her little business spiel and gently took your hand into hers. “Would you like to try one? I can help you find your ring size.”
Despite her living in rags and dirt, you couldn’t help but find her beautiful as she looked up at you with gemstone-brimmed eyes. Blinking up at you in a beautiful shade of scarlet, as her warm smile brought you newfound feelings you’ve never felt before. What were those feelings you may ask? Perhaps something akin to fascination, or perhaps…a small crush?
Nevertheless, you knew this girl was beautiful, and wanted to get to know her better. After browsing around her selection of wares for you to purchase from, your eyes landed on a particular set of jewelry. “Are these a set? They both match…” you ask with curiosity, picking up one of the rings.
“Yes, I made those two in mind for a couple who happened to be walking by.” She picks up the second one in the pair and holds it out to you. “They are matching rings and can symbolize anything. Romance, friendship, familial bond…”
She smiles at you and gently slips one of the pairs onto your finger. “Here, it seems to fit onto you perfectly. Do you like it?”
You did. It was absolutely beautiful and you admired the glittering pearl like it was the second prettiest thing you’ve ever seen. (The first one being Ningguang)
“It’s beautiful. But…” your eyes moved down to the matching pair in the set. “I don’t have anyone to match with…”
Ningguang raised a brow at this. Well, you could always buy another ring, so it’s not like this was a big deal.
“Oh? That’s a shame. Then perhaps you could get something else? Or, even just take one of the pairs and leave the other.” She thought quite logically about the situation and didn’t seem bothered by your dilemma. After giving her suggestion, she was a bit confused as to why you looked so upset. “Uh…is something the matter?”
“We can’t just separate the pair!” You exclaim, your childishness shining through. “They’d get lonely knowing the other pair is somewhere else…”
“But they’re just…rings?” Ningguang looked confused as to what you were throwing a fuss about. “Rings don’t have feelings!”
“You don’t know that!” You shout back, holding one of the rings close to your chest. “It needs to know it matches with someone. Then it’ll fulfill its purpose in life…”
Poor Ningguang looked so confused at the whole ordeal before sighing in slight disbelief. Perhaps she was a bit too mature for her age to understand, but it seemed that splitting the rings apart was troubling you to a great degree.
“Alright, I have an idea…” Ningguang murmurs, taking the second half of the pair and slipping it onto her finger. “You can keep that one, and I will keep this one. That way we will match.”
Your eyes lit up at this solution. “So we can be…a bonded pair?” You ask quietly, looking at her with intrigue.
Dammit. Little Ningguang’s face blushed and she couldn’t help but grow flustered. “Yes, we can be a bonded pair…” she grumbles, ignoring the way you were starting to look cute.
“Hurray!” You smile gleefully, slipping the ring on and handing you some mora. “Now we can pretend to be married! Like real couples!”
She felt the blood rush to her face as she looked down at the matching ring in her hand, a spur of newfound feelings bubbling in her chest, as Ningguang had never felt this way before.
From that day forward, Ningguang vowed to become the richest woman in Liyue. All for the sole purpose of potentially buying you a real ring to marry…

half-god, half-mortal…?
Summary: A demigod AU! If you’ve read PJO before you might find the premise familiar, but it’s not required to understand this post!
These are just my take on who their godly parents might be. I’m open to explore how their powers/personalities can differ for other god assignments too! So just send in an ask if ever.
The setting is vaguely like CHB, or in other words, a camp for demigods protected from monsters.
Characters: Tighnari, Diluc, Kaeya, Albedo, Gaming, Hu Tao, Alhaitham, Kaveh, Freminet, Cyno
If you liked this, consider checking out my other work or Wanderer fanbook, now available on my kofi!
Tumblr media
Tighnari, Child of Demeter. Associated gifts: summoning and manipulating plantlife, speaking to animals, having a natural immunity to toxins/poisons.
Tighnari is a token first-crush when newcomers arrive at camp. There’s something about meeting him when he’s tending to the fields, the Sun gentle on your skin as you explore the facilities on your own — Tighnari glances up at the sound of your footsteps, though you’re sure you’ve been walking so quietly, there’s no way he could’ve heard.
At your confused expression, Tighnari explains he has more sensory awareness around agricultural sites. You aren’t too sure what that means, but his smile is pretty and it causes you to hang around and ask about the flowers. (He’s more than happy to ramble about them, to your luck.)
On your birthday, Tighnari surprises you with a potted flower that he’s enhanced the robustness of. “That way, it won’t wilt even if you forget to water it.” You’re about to ask him when the flower bud will bloom, only for Tighnari to ask you to hold your hands over it and make a wish. Its petals unravel soon after, followed by the fluttering in your stomach as your hands brush against his fingers — Tighnari passing the gift to you.
Tumblr media
Diluc: Athena. Able to see/spy through an owl or serpent’s eyes (sacred animal), memorize virtually anything, weapon proficiency (knows how to use them instinctually), enhanced intelligence and reflexes.
Diluc arrived here with Kaeya years ago. After his father gave him directions to camp, Diluc’s planned route was interrupted by repeated monster attacks, and he was forced to continue the journey alone. During this time, Diluc ran into Kaeya, and they’ve been close as brothers ever since.
It’s hard not to fall a little for Diluc when you witness him in weapons training — he’s gifted with the claymore and hard-working. Sometimes after lessons, he hangs behind for hours to do more drills using other weapons, but always finds the energy to give you a soft smile when you check on him or ask if he can mentor you a little.
You also learn, eventually, that Diluc is stubborn. When he has a question on his mind, he doesn’t rest until he’s found an answer for it, resulting in the redhead passing out until the morning with scribbled notes across his desk.
Sometimes you’re tasked with waking him up, but you haven’t been very effective at this ever since you realized how long his lashes are (immediate panic, worrying he’d blink awake any moment and catch you there).
Tumblr media
Kaeya: Nike. Associated gifts: enhancing the chance of victory (or failure) for people, intuitive precognition of who will win in a situation, growing wings on his back temporarily (discovered later on during a battle).
Kaeya was unclaimed by his godly parent during his first two years at camp. Instead, he lived in the Hermes cabin and picked up some useful tricks and qualities from his cabin-mates.
He has a falling-out with Diluc after they return from their first quest. No one knows the reason why, but their relationship is mending, slowly. You never would’ve guessed this from your first impression of Kaeya though; charming and smooth as he asks you to make a little bet on where his coin-toss will land. You learn later that he pretty much controls the outcome of that, which means he’d let you ‘win’.
Kaeya’s happy to help you out if you’re having interpersonal troubles. He’s acquainted with practically everyone, and you realize later down the line that he’s put in a good word for you more than once. When you ask him to accompany you on your quest however, there’s something vulnerable in his eyes as he asks if you’re sure.
“I don’t have any special abilities, you know. And my connections end once you step out of the barrier—”
“...Kaeya. It’s okay. I trust you.”
He’d silently agreed after that, only asking you to promise you won’t regret it. Maybe one day you’ll find out what he’s carrying from his past.
Tumblr media
Albedo: Hephaestus cabin. Has the ability to manipulate technology and metal, gifted in craftsmanship and working with machines, good with their hands.
Ironically, Albedo is often mistaken as a child of Aphrodite. Rumors say he was dropped off at camp by an alchemist figure, and may not actually be a demigod as much as he was just another being who suited the Hephaestus’ cabin and gained special permission to board long ago.
The truth remains a mystery. When you ask him about it, Albedo simply rests his cheek against his palm, asking you to make a guess.
Albedo’s choice of weapon is the sword, however he often gets distracted during practice and walks away muttering to himself about how he could add upgrades to the existing weapons at camp. There’s almost an uncanny perfection in the way he moves that adds to his elusive allure.
He created his own little corner in his cabin’s workshop, where he experiments past usual machinery into the field of alchemy. Not usual practice amongst his cabinmates, but no one complains since Albedo is equally diligent in other tasks asked of him. He sometimes invites you to go foraging with him, since he'd rather converse with a close friend than have passersby drag him for a chat.
His undiscriminatory attitude towards those who ask him for help has made him popular around camp, although the Aphrodite kids still lament his lack of interest in socializing.
Tumblr media
Gaming: Hermes. Can understand all languages, good at thievery, persuasive, charismatic, quick on his feet, athletic, can summon wings on his shoes!
In your first week, you receive a welcome package from Gaming! He's in charge of sending items around camp since he's fast and gets along with most people, and has also been trying to start up a lion-dance group with other campgoers.
“Sure, performing by myself is fine. But can you imagine Wushou dancers hopping up into the sky? It'll take a bit of logistics, but I'm sure if we partner up with the Hecate cabin, we can figure something out!”
Gaming's saved you from a stray arrow in archery practice a few times, too — wings sprouting on his shoes as he jumps into the air. Not every Hermes child is this adept with flying, which also makes him a common target during capture the flag (lest he swoops in to steal the victory).
Gaming also runs a little side-business to help campers get parcels and letters out to their loved ones (this was not allowed until the camp counselor gave up and told Gaming to enforce safety measures, since demigods are as stubborn as they get.)
He reveals that doing this helps him see a different side of people — like the Ares cabin having an unexpectedly quieter side when they pass items to him, telling Gaming to keep his mouth shut (they don't like showing the mushy side of their emotions very much.)
Tumblr media
Hu Tao: Hecate. Can perform magic using ancient greek or latin phrases, has telekinesis, can manipulate the Mist (magical veil which separates the Magical World from the Mortal World), and powers are stronger at night.
Hu Tao is one of the rarer Hecate children who can do necromancy and shadow-travel! Despite the serious sound of this however, she often uses these powers to play pranks.
Once you get closer to her, you discover that her jokes to help people see the other side aren't just dark humor — a number of campers have deep-rooted respect for her for helping them gain closure by speaking to passed souls.
“A lot of campers arrive from a bad situation, after all. We demigods attract trouble. And even if camp is a safe haven, it doesn't erase what happened in the past.”
Once, she asked you for help with inventing her own spell. It was only by the end of her metaphorical rambling that you realize its purpose was to summon a ‘Boo-Tao’!
The little ghost creature seems to like you, and often is the one to retrieve you when Hu Tao requires your presence (often with vague gestures and body language since it can't talk.)
Despite her cabinmates’ protests, Hu Tao likes to bring you to their cabin and get you to try carving runes for spells. She claims it'd be cool if non-Hecate children could have an affinity for some magic too, since they won't always be there to help with magic when things get dire.
“Maybe a drop of my blood can activate the runes, even without my presence? …Kidding! Don’t look at me like that!”
Tumblr media
Alhaitham: Dionysus. He can manipulate plants (particularly grape vines), curse people, manipulate madness (cause/cure), and induce people to say what they’re thinking as if they’re drunk (wine-talk). Good acting and persuasion skills!
One can normally spot Alhaitham reading in an alcove somewhere. If you trip on a vine on your way to say hi, maybe take that as a sign that he doesn't want to be disturbed (most people don't realize it's his doing).
When faced with a difficult person however (in an argument), Alhaitham threatens to curse them or induces wine-talk, so that his opponent gets frustrated and hopefully leaves. With the amount of disputes that happen with Alhaitham, one might think he was a child of Ares instead.
“You— Are you inducing madness on me?!”
“Why would I? You’re perfectly enraged without my help. Though since this was caused by your simplicity, I'm afraid I can't cure it either.”
Who can blame you for laughing at that? Alhaitham doesn't miss your muffled cough, causing him to raise his head with a smile.
“See? Even the newcomer thinks you're ridiculous.”
Ever since, Alhaitham has unofficially considered you as a friend (a person with a sane mind). It’s kind of funny how he sometimes acts ignorant and slowly guides a conversation where he wants, leaving his previously-aggressive opponent confused.
Only those he's close to will notice the little quirks in his expression that show he's amused by the volatile campers, though he prefers ‘to watch on the sidelines’ than be placed onstage.
Tumblr media
Kaveh: Iris. Associated gifts: Orb conjuring (imprisons target, defensive use), can manifest bird-like wings which lets them fly, rainbow manipulation and travel (teleports through them). They tend to be good artists and dislike fighting.
The only person you might ever see Kaveh arguing with is Alhaitham. Other than that however, Kaveh is nicknamed the ‘Light’ of the Iris cabin for both his beauty and intelligence, as he liaised with the Athena kids to design new facilities around camp.
Many of the new cabins you see for minor gods were also planned by him, as he himself stayed in the Hermes cabin for a while and wanted to make sure every cabin had features personalized for them. His empathy means that he overworks himself often though, constantly flitting between Hephaestus and Hermes cabins to get construction done.
Children of Iris' appearances look rainbow-like when under direct sunlight. Kaveh’s no different, but you have to admit it was a shock the first time you witnessed it — you thought you were going crazy for a second, thinking he was pretty to the point of hallucinating such things!
You once asked Kaveh if you could offer a drachma to see him whenever you wanted (‘Iris message’ where you toss a drachma and pray to Iris for essentially a videocall, but magic) → he laughed and said yes, but commented that he prefers in-person meetings a lot more. That way he can conjure a rainbow against the water and see how your eyes brighten, or catch your micro-reactions during idle conversation.
Tumblr media
FreminetHypnos. Ability to cure/cause insomnia, induce sleep, create dream-like illusions (sight-based), travel through others’ dreams and manipulate dream contents, hypnosis, memory manipulation.
Freminet is a shy member of the Hypnos cabin who frequents the Hephaestus forges to work on new machine ideas. You first meet him while he's designing a penguin robot to station in his cabin, so that his siblings can wake up on time for meetings and meals.
Once, you almost opened a bottle of sleeping powder that he just extracted from poppy flowers. In your defense, it was very curious and sparkly.
“Ah, please be careful with that! It's for the Aphrodite campers that’ve been suffering from insomnia lately.”
Freminet admits that he's erased the memories of some people before, particularly those who’ve seen him wandering out at night. In his defense, it was just because he kept stumbling over his words and got too embarrassed, so he'd rather they forget they saw him at all!
During a period of repeated nightmares, you asked Freminet if there was anything he could do to get rid of them. Despite how he could simply induce a pleasant dream for you, he suggests a more long-term solution — Freminet enters your dream so you can face the nightmare together, changing little things here and there so you could process the worries that manifested them in the first place.
He explains that this is better than relying on his powers too much. Speaking from previous experience… turning your dreams into a comforting realm might trap you in them, to the point of forgoing the real world in the end.
Tumblr media
Cyno: Nemesis. Ability to control physical and spiritual balance (incapacitating targets), summon vengeful spirits, sense opponents’ strengths and weaknesses, detect cheating, and temporarily neutralize other demigods’ powers. Enhanced strength and combat ability.
You once asked Cyno if he was able to strengthen hatred into a desire for revenge, causing people to fight in the distance — you’d only been acquaintances at the time, and you were admittedly intimidated by his intense aura (a trait of the children of Nemesis, which can startle other people and even monsters at times).
He surprised you by answering seriously, explaining that while it was possible, it'd go against his personal values. Cyno then continues to use a TCG quote to elaborate, which quickly shatters the tension as you jump in recognition of the words. “There are other TCG players in camp?!”
Cyno is usually impossible to sneak up on, nor does he lose his balance. That is, until you managed to fluster him one day by outrightly asking him on a date — and while he doesn't physically trip, there is a moment of surprise on his face that you'll never forget. It’s cute, in a different way from how he gets excited about tabletop games and cracks jokes with a goofy smile. Though he’s still the one who steadies you by the waist whenever you trip over your feet, so you suppose Cyno’s not just cute.
There's an unofficial rivalry going on between him and the Hermes kids during TCG matches, where they try every possible method to cheat just to see if Cyno can catch them.
Ah, but the true moment that makes your heart skip is when you're fighting alongside Cyno on the battlefield, and he carves a way through the crowd of monsters with a vengeful spirit summoned at his side. Then, when you're about to get overwhelmed by enemies, he's quick to pull you out of danger and ask if you're okay. Casually slicing through the monsters with his polearm.
How can you not think he's cool by the end of that?

Hey may I request reader coming home from work and seeing Ganyu, HuTao and Mona wearing reader's clothes? THANKS!!
You catching them wearing your clothes
Characters: Ganyu/Hu Tao/Mona x gn!reader (separate)
Warnings: none, just fluff
a/n: I love this request, thanks a lot for sending it in, especially since I imagine the three characters to have very different reactions
Originally planned to make a Bo Burnham reference for Mona's part, since the "prolonged eye-contact" meme got stuck in my head while writing it, but I eventually decided against it, because I would never do weird references *nervous laughter*.
Anyway, hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
Ganyu
When work required you to travel for a couple of days, Ganyu once again found herself coming home to an empty apartment. And while she ought to have been used to it, having lived alone for a very long time, she quickly found herself getting lonely. Normally you’d be there to greet her whenever she returned from work, letting her instantly fall into your arms and relax while cuddling, but with you gone, all that remained were things that reminded her of you. Your mug, your side of the bed… and your clothes.
At first, Ganyu couldn’t help but feel embarrassed whenever she put on your shirt, but while it smelled nothing like you, having been recently washed, it still allowed her to relax and feel more at home, causing the days until your return to fly by.
When Ganyu heard the sound of your keys opening the door, she immediately got exited, dropping whatever she had been doing up until that point before rushing to the door like a dog that had been waiting for their owner to return. The moment you stepped foot into the apartment and your eyes landed on her, you opened your arms before embracing her in a hug, only realising what shirt she was wearing after you eventually pulled back.
“Isn’t that mine?”, you finally asked, your question confusing Ganyu until she followed your stare and noticed what you were talking about, causing her face to immediately heat up as a plethora of apologies started to come out of her mouth.
“I-I’m sorry, I m-missed you and so I borrowed your- I know I shouldn’t have done so without asking first, but you weren’t here, so I-”, she tried to stutter out a response, only to cut herself off and starting from scratch a couple of times.
“Don’t worry, it’s fine”, you eventually interrupted her panic induced ramble, causing you to immediately get her attention as she got silent. “It suits you”, you added with a smile, before you knew it, her cheeks got even redder, only for her to hug you once again, hiding her face in the process.
“I’m glad you’re back”, she eventually mumbled, causing your smile to get even wider as you put one of your hands on her head.
“Me too.”
Tumblr media
Mona
While Mona would honestly rather die than admit it, there were times when she liked to pick one of your shirts out of your closet and put it one while reading one of her books about astrology. Not because they reminded her of you or anything, they simply were more comfortable to wear, that’s all. And while she knew better than to use her astrology for something silly, she couldn’t help but feel tempted to check when you’d arrive home, not wanting to you to catch her in your clothes.
After finally finishing the new book about astrology she had bought recently, Mona sat it down on the coffee table before standing up and stretching her back. She couldn’t exactly remember when she began reading, but once she started, she found herself unable to stop, finishing it in a single session. But just as she grabbed it, intending to put it to the other books in her room, Mona was interrupted by the sound of the door opening, causing her eyes to immediately glance to the clock, realising in horror that she had focused on the book for a bit too long. Before she had the chance to move, your eyes had already landed on her, displaying confusion at first before quickly being filled with amusement.
“D-Don’t say a word!”, Mona immediately blurted out, her face immediately turning red, reminding you of that animal, that was able to change colours to camouflage itself, that you had recently read about. Deciding not to mention your thoughts, you remained silent. “Stop grinning like an idiot!”, she eventually demanded, causing you to playfully roll your eyes.
“You have to say ‘Simon says’ first”, you jokingly responded, only to shut up when Mona’s glare landed on you.
“My clothes were dirty, so I borrowed out a shirt of yours. I can’t run around the home half naked after all, I’m not a degenerate”, she explained, obviously making it up on the spot, but luckily for her, you didn’t feel like teasing her further about it, deciding that she had already done enough.
“Mhm, makes sense. Sorry for misunderstanding”, you stated, trying your best not to make your sarcasm too obvious, only for Mona to let out a sigh of relief before quickly changing back to her usual behaviour.
“You better be.”
Tumblr media
Hu Tao
Hu Tao was a thief with not shame. There wouldn't be a single day none of your shirts vanished out of your wardrobe, only to magically appear on the funeral director, and you hadn't even mentioned the socks yet. Sometimes you weren’t sure if she did it solely to annoy you, or because she actually liked them, but you had long learned not to question what was happening in that head of hers.
When you came home from work, the first thing you noticed were Hu Tao’s shoes, meaning she had finished work first. The second thing you noticed was your favourite shirt… being worn by the prankster calling herself your girlfriend.
“Oh, welcome back. I hope you didn’t miss me too much while at work”, she jokingly greeted you with a small wave and a chuckle, only to give you a confused look when she noticed you had yet to respond.
“It seems to me like I didn’t miss you as much as you did me”, you eventually stated, causing Hu Tao to tilt her head in confusion for a split second before realising what you were talking about, her lips instantly forming a wide smile once she did, causing you to get more confident in your theory that at least a huge part of her motivation for stealing your clothes was to annoy you.
“Aya, are you talking about our shirt? I have to commend you for your taste in clothes, it’s really comfortable.”
“’Our shirt’?”, you repeated, hoping she’d explain a little further what exactly she meant with that, especially the part where your clothes became both of your property. Instead, the only reaction you got out of her, was an excited “exactly”, forcing you to think of another way to approach the subject.
“So I could just put on that hat you like to wear if I wanted to, since it’s ours?”, you asked, only for her smile to widen even more, making you wonder how that was even possible.
“Of course not, that’s my hat”, Hu Tao explained, causing you to let out a sigh before collapsing onto the couch, deciding that questioning her logic was pointless, eventually closing your eyes and trying your best to relax.

manipulate!yandere!hu tao(and gorou too) is rotting in my brain. hu tao may be a prankster, but we know that she can be serious when she needs to be. And she's serious when it comes to anything senpai.
She's not that strong nor is she popular, but she can manipulate the little things in the background. Manipulating her competitors against one and another, with some even killing. On upside, she reduces her enemies without lifting a finger(though she wouldn't mind if she has too), gets her family business more customers, and the greatest thing of all... a vulnerable senpai all to herself.
She can interfere with who gets invited at school, making it just senpai and her there. She takes advantage of the state senpai's in and isolates them. And sweet old senpai wouldn't suspect a thing because the moment hu tao puts on the energetic personality, trying to cheer them up, they're glad to have such a kind friend.
Hu Tao brain rot is immaculate ✨
I’ll definitely keep this in mind when creating her admirer profile!

M.U.S.E. Event Case 004. Hu Tao x Female Reader
◇ Report submitted by: Moderator Angel on ▇▇▇▇.
gory descriptions of murder, English lessons, horrible spelling
Tumblr media
CASE FILE. MUSE-004
CLASS. POLTERGEIST
SEVERITY. 6 / 10
DESCRIPTION.  While investigating the unnatural death of a woman found bludgeoned in her home, an investigator had wandered up to the attic in order to investigate further into the house. Shortly after, his body came cascading down the stairs with a wooden object lodged deep within his throat, dying shortly after at the bottom of the stairs just as the woman had. Officials realized that the cause of the woman’s death wasn’t a murder, but rather an attack from a supernatural entity. They proceeded to call the appropriate authorities soon afterward.
Tumblr media
A woman in her forties was found dead at the bottom of the stairs with her frontal lobe crushed to a fine and bloody paste. A few feet away was the blood-soaked object of a lamp that seemed to be the cause of this woman’s death, glass shattered everywhere as the base of the lamp was bashed so hard against the woman’s head, there were still fragments of it lodged deep within her skull.
Authorities report that the cause of her death was a mystery. The woman lived alone and the only plausible explanation for her death was a run in with an intruder. But after a thorough examination throughout the house, authorities have confirmed that there were no traces of a break in from all entrance and exit points of the house.
So what caused her death really? An accident? But that wouldn’t explain the lamp wound. A psychotic episode? But her medical reports stated that she was in a perfectly content state. The answer to her death was a simple one, really; and all it took was for one unsuspecting investigator that just so happened to stumble upon the attic.
Downstairs heard a scream, and then another body came tumbling down the stairs just as the woman had. This time with a chair leg sticking out of his neck, his words trying to gurgle out of his throat but failing due to all the blood he was losing out of all the wrong places.
The head investigator swallowed a lump, amidst the panic of his team he looked up at the stairs and felt a chill run down his spine. There was a smile, only there for a second and yet a smile nonetheless. Mocking him as it disappeared quicker than a flash, seemingly beckoning for him and his crew to come closer to find out.
But he already knew the cause of this woman’s death, as that smile was the only clue he needed to conclude this investigation.
This house was haunted by a poltergeist.
Tumblr media
Eyes glazing over the board, you itched at the surface of your wrist while contemplating whether or not you wanted to take on a job request before heading home for the night. You were a bit short on cash lately due to having to buy some new night equipment, but it was worth it as it made killing that banshee all the more easier last time you were stuck in a crisis.
Yawning, your eyes landed on a peculiar case of a murderous poltergeist found a few towns over. Apparently, according to the news article plastered in sloppy ink, there was a murder of two people in a house after having an encounter with a poltergeist in the attic. A woman in her forties who was the owner of the house, and an investigator who accidentally came in contact with the spirit after deciding to explore the attic. Both victims’ lives ended with being pushed down the stairs, along with an object lodged in the top part of their bodies.
“Interesting…” you mouthed, tearing the wrinkled article off its pin. “I’ve never seen a poltergeist this aggressive before...”
In all your years of hunting monsters, all the poltergeists you’ve encountered were nothing short of annoying. Sure they’ve hurled objects at you, locked you in rooms, and even tried to throw you around a few times, but they’ve never actually tried to kill you before.
In short, poltergeists as a whole were just annoying little ghosts who needed a little exorcism. So why was this one so brutal in its attacks? Your curiosity was just too insatiable not to take on the task, and you decided that this job would be the perfect way to end your night.
…Said no one ever.
“Zhongli, can I take this one?” you turned back to the front desk and saw the old man shifting through some paperwork. His eyes narrowed in focus while his pen scribbled out incoherent words. “Hm?” he didn’t even look up from his pen and made a gesture with his hand. “Let me see?”
Your footsteps silent against the wooden floors, you handed him the news article and watched as he readjusted his spectacles to read through the blotchy print. “A 6/10? For a poltergeist?” even Zhongli seemed concerned. “That can’t be right, poltergeists are rated either a 4 or lower depending on the space they inhabit.”
His concerned eyes reached yours like an overprotective father to his daughter. “This could be quite dangerous, Y/N. I’ve never seen a poltergeist hold such a high rating before.”
“Which is exactly why I want to take it,” you grinned a bit too confidently. “I’m curious as to why such a low-ranking monster is ranked so high for this specific anomaly. I mean, nothing is out of the ordinary about this creature except for the fact that it killed people.”
“Which is precisely why I’m a bit worried,” Zhongli let his eyes wander through the article one more time. “Perhaps the entity at hand isn’t really a poltergeist. There is a good chance this entity was categorized falsely.”
“Well, we’ll never know unless I confirm it,” you smirked whilst fastening your backpack. “C’mon, I’ve handled way more dangerous monsters before. This’ll be a breeze.”
“Sigh, you speak of this like it’s squashing a fly,” the old man shook his head and reached for his stamp. “But, I know you are a talented monster hunter, so; I will approve this just for you.
With a loud stamp against the paper with his seal of approval, you grinned and quickly grabbed your things. Ready to head a few towns over to exorcize what could be the cause of your death.
Oh how exciting this job was!
Tumblr media
The town of Wangsheng was a dreary one to say the least. Clouds overtaking the sky in a blanket full of grey, homes boarded up and locked to keep all the intruders out. And, speaking of intruders, you were treated one as well considering your newest arrival amongst a town full of tightly-knit residents.
Every step you took, every glance you made, it was followed by the scowls and glares of the residents nearby who seemed to keep their eyes tightly pinned on you. Almost as if you were a walking freakshow yourself, made to be watched and gawked at by people who thought you were the anomaly.
“Excuse me, do you know where the Li-Mei residence is?”
At the sound of the unfortunate victim’s name, the man you asked flinched and shoved you away. You easily finding your footing and keeping your stance despite being shoved so abruptly.
“Get lost. If you’re here to ghost hunt then that’s just plain disrespectful.”
The man sneered at you while you could only watch in confusion. The locals around you only bad mouthing your encounter in secret as you stood there puzzled and in disarray. ‘Ghost hunting…’ you pondered for a bit and came to a conclusion. ‘In the few days that it took for me to get here, word must’ve spread about the murderous haunting here on that house.’
You looked around at the shady bystanders and chewed your lip at the sight.
‘Ghost hunters… No wonder these people are all skeptical. They’ve probably been bothered by enough rambunctious teens and fake exorcists.’ You quickly caught up with the man and tugged on his sleeve. “Excuse me.”
“Girl are you deaf–?” the man froze when you shoved your MUSE ID into his face, your own being stern and tightly composed while you spoke. “Sir, I am a certified monster hunter from MUSE. I have come to exorcize the anomaly haunting the Li-Mei residence. Now please, kindly tell me where the Li-Mei residence is located so that I may complete my job.”
The man only blankly stared at the ID in silence, eyes dilating from each and every word printed on there, before shifting to your ID photo. Sure enough, you were the real thing.
“Hmpf…I suppose you’re no phony,” he folded his arms and pointed to a tall hill on the left side of town. “Up there, there’s a lone house with a broken mailbox sitting at the front. That right there is where the Li-Mei residence is located.”
He suddenly leaned down to your height and scowled. “You better not be a fake. We oughta leave that house to rest if you are.”
“I promise I am not,” you swore, shifting your bag onto one shoulder and making your way towards the hill. “By the time I’m done here, that spirit will be gone.”
Waving dismissively to the townspeople behind you, you began your ascension to the tall hill in front of you. The climb proving to be quite a difficult one, as the path to the top was worn down by overgrown roots and fallen rock. How the woman in her forties managed to go up and down these all the time, you had no idea.
‘I’d hate to come home from work every night only to walk up these,’ you grimaced, your foot nearly sliding off a piece of unstable rock and threatening you to fall back down where you came from. ‘That woman must be a mountain goat or something! Great gods…’
Finally reaching the top, you propped your arm against the broken mailbox for support and caught your breath for a second before looking at the house. It was a run down, barely functioning two story house, and if the news article hadn’t proclaimed that the owner had been killed, you would’ve assumed it was abandoned.
At the front of the house was a porch holding up the front door. Completely bombarded in yellow police tape and boarded up with planks in order to keep intruders like teens out. Other than that, the front of the house was remarkably empty other than an old, rusted rocking chair pushed to the far corner of the porch.
“Eerie…” you muttered to yourself, walking closer to the house itself and failing to notice a set of eyes watching you from the attic window.
Stepping up to the old, paint-peeling steps of the front entrance to the door, you ducked under the low-swinging webs of police tape and tested the door knob out for yourself. Chewing your lip in displeasure as the knob wouldn’t turn at all. ‘Locked.’ came your thoughts as you reached into your bag for your crowbar. ‘Oh well. Nothing I can’t handle.’
Raising the crowbar at a steady distance, you carefully swung at the doorknob and grinned when the metal smacked against it with a satisfying thwack!
‘Again. At least one more time.’
Raising it again, you swung the crowbar at the knob with enough precision to completely cut it clean from the door, a hole left in its wake as you peered in through it out of curiosity.
‘Hah! That was easy,’ you let your eyes wander through the hole of what used to be the doorknob. ‘Now…where is it…?’
From what you could see from your position, the house inside was dark and barely illuminated. Antique furniture filling up what seemed to be the living room, and the faint splatter of blood at the bottom of the stairs from what seemed to be left from the body.
‘Seems like they left in a rush,’ you noted, before kicking down the door and entering swiftly. ‘Pity. They couldn’t even bother to clean up the blood for me.’
You clicked your flashlight on and shined the white orb around the darkly shadows of the haunted home. Half expecting a toaster to just lunge at your head, as you had just so abruptly broken into the home of the poltergeist. “Huh. Usually at this time I’d be dodging a picture frame by now,” you awkwardly wandered around the first floor of the house and explored the various rooms to get a feel for what you were dealing with. “Hm. The house is big, but not as big as a manor,” you let your light drift across old picture frames left behind from the owner of the house. ‘Looks like she didn’t have much family.’
Suddenly you heard a loud noise coming from upstairs. Your eyes darting to the top of the stairs located near the living room, and shining your light up as far as it could go.
“…I guess it’s up there.”
You shrugged and decided that it was about time to head up. After all, it seemed that the poltergeist liked to thrive up there as you had yet to encounter it throughout your exploration of the first floor. Which meant that up was the only other way to go.
Oh, but that meant you had to–
You grimaced as you let your light fall to the ground, illuminating the dried up blood sitting at the foot of the stairs. Why couldn’t they at least mop it down?
Blowing out a breath of air, you swallowed up any feelings you had and quickly stepped over the splatter patch of gore, making a mental note to yourself to clean your boots thoroughly once you got home. “Hah…it gets colder as you go up,” you spoke to yourself, shivering as you tried to ground yourself by talking to the silence.
“How creepy.”
But you were used to it. All spiritual monsters held some sort of cold chill the closer you got to them, and this one was no different. However, you couldn’t help but feel as if your chest was being knotted into thin layers of unquestionable anxiety, the lingering thought of this strangely murderous poltergeist sitting not too hidden beneath your mind.
‘A poltergeist who murders,’ you reached the top step of the second floor and took note of the now chilly temperatures, ‘I should be ready.’
Reassuring yourself by touching the sage pouch fastened to your waist, you took out your specially crafted book for exorcizing vengeful spirits. Something you borrowed from the library of MUSE as you would need something a lot more powerful than sage to deal with a 6/10 poltergeist.
‘Okay…’ you took a deep breath and held the book tightly in your arms. ‘I’m ready.’
Slipping on the professional hunter facade, you wandered about the second floor of the house to feel any ghostly chill or sign that the spirit was here. Clutching the book tightly in your grasp, and taking note of how some areas of the floor felt distinctly colder than others.
All the areas in question being the rooms closest to the attic stairs.
“The attic,” you murmured to yourself, gazing at the closed hatch above you. “One of the favorite places for a spirit to lurk around in.”
You felt a small twinge of anxiety stun the core of your stomach, but you forced it to go unnoticed as you needed your mental state as clear as day. You couldn’t let your fears overtake you so soon, so you forced your body to abide with your mind, and discard any and all nerves you felt at this very moment.
‘Just any other job.’ You thought to yourself, boldly going up the steps and pulling the hatch down before you could think otherwise. ‘Any other job, with any other monster.’
Nerves rattling inside your body, your fight or flight response was on the verge of kicking in as you readied yourself to get attacked. Despite being a slight nervous wreck when ascending these very stairs, you were still a trained huntress that could kill anything if you wanted.
“What an anticlimactic feeling…” you chuckled out breathlessly, surprised when you didn’t find yourself attacked the moment you opened the hatch. “I was expecting a brutal death from you…”
You actually made it inside the attic and shivered when you felt the freezing chill of a spirit within the room. A smirk playing on your lips as you had found your target. “Hah, hiding won’t do you justice. Any rookie hunter could sense the chill of a ghost no matter how faint.”
Your nerves settled to a sea of calm as you waited for a response from the room. Standing dead center in the middle as you took in your surroundings of the dark and dusty attic. A room not frequently visited by the looks of things, as all the furniture was cracked and old, the floor encased in a fine layer of thick and cakey dust.
‘Well this room has seen better days–’ your eyes widened as you narrowly dodged an oncoming vase headed for your skull, your instincts saving you yet again.
“Woah–!”
It shattered into one corner of the room, breaking into millions of tiny pieces and alerting your senses to a higher degree. “Haha! Now I really know you're in here!” instead of being afraid, you laughed nonchalantly and seemed to be enjoying the way you exposed it. The ‘it’ in question seemingly getting more and more angry as the room dropped a few degrees colder.
A picture frame rattled before being flung off the wall. Flying towards your head, but narrowly missing as your insane reflexes kicked in and dodged it. A chair suddenly slid across the room and towards you at a rapid pace, your legs instinctively moving out of the way, and even twirling as you seemed to be having fun with this.
“Ah! You’re really good at this,” you chuckled, ducking under a flying alarm clock and watching as the room suddenly started getting louder and louder the more these objects came to life. “Hey–! There’s a toaster!”
You could just feel the atmosphere getting heavier with anger as the spirit in the room seemed livid with how you were dodging its attacks with ease. All at once, as if movement didn’t exist, the objects in the room stopped their movements and a mirror was pulled out from underneath a white cloth. Skittering to a stop right in front of you as the ghost started scratching out some letters in jagged, ear-piercing lines.
“GET OWT!!!” read the thin scratches as silence filled the once loud and chaotic attic. All the objects falling to the ground at once whilst you read the words and contemplated on what to say.
“...Hmm,” you tilted your head at the words before a smile overtook your features, “Hehe, you spelled out wrong. It has a U.”
…Silence.
Pure silence.
And then another scratch started forming under the word OWT. Smaller, more quieter scratches soon following after and forming the word “UWT?” Question mark and all.
“Pfft. No no no,” you giggled and breathed out a hot breath of air against the mirror. Your breath steaming up the glass, while you used your pointer finger to write out the correct spelling of ‘out.’
“See? The U is where the W is. There’s no W in out.”
You felt a cold chill right next to you, and assumed the spirit had taken a presence beside you.
“OUT.” the ghost wrote underneath the UWT. Impressing you with how calm it was being, despite trying to kill you moments prior. Could the aggressive poltergeist you were after be a child?
“Great job!” you exclaimed joyously, breathing steam against the mirror again and writing “GET OUT” in proper spelling to show the spirit how it looked like in proper English. “Try writing it like this.”
“GET OUT.” The words perfectly mimicked yours –although a bit more sloppy– and you’ve never felt prouder.
“Ah, you did it!” you cheered, “You’re amazing!”
Your eyes widened when you caught glimpse of a young woman in the reflection of the mirror. Her face seemingly surprised before disappearing in an instant once you noticed her.
Okay…so your target was definitely not a child…
“You’re a woman?!” you exclaimed rather loudly, the cold spot beside you suddenly getting warmer.
“...Yes.” was the ghost’s answer as it scratched the word rather sloppily.
“Oh, I see…” you stared at the cracked mirror in wonder and amusement. “I didn’t expect a ghost as old as you to be so bad at writing.”
You ducked as a teacup lunged at the back of your skull. Shattering against the cracked mirror and falling into pieces at your feet. Uh oh, it seems as if you pissed her off.
“Wah! I didn’t mean it as an insult!” you waved your hands shakily and turned to face the emptiness beside you. Despite not seeing anything at all, you could still feel the animosity right beside you and stared as if you were making dead eye contact. “I mean…I just found it, y’know. Kinda cute.” The cold chill in the air grew warmer. “Such a vengeful spirit like yourself calming down like this. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
The lonely attic sat idly for a while. Your words lingering like a wisp of smoke as there was no response from the vengeful spirit.
“If you want…” you began, eyes trailing over to the cracked mirror in front of you, “I could teach you how to write proper English.”
More silence followed. Though you could sense a tinge of uneasiness in the air as the entity beside you grew faint, almost invisible as you could barely detect her at all. “Miss?” you whispered out quietly, eyes widening when you felt something cold wrap around your hand and pull your body like an invisible string, dragging your hand over to where the ghost was writing, and splaying your fingers over a word.
“Yes.” You whispered, a shiver running down your spine as you realized that the ghost woman was touching you. Holding your hand with hers, and helping guide your body to the response she wanted to tell you.
“Alright then,” you gasped with a baited breath, fingers twitching under the frosty feeling,  “I’ll teach you.”
Tumblr media
To say your intentions were pure was a lie. I mean, it wasn’t a complete lie, you did want to help her study, but you weren’t exactly a good person to her to begin with. The whole spiel of wanting to help her improve was all a ploy to get her to be compliant. A peaceful and willing ghost was always an easier ghost to exorcize, and what better way than to make this spirit compilable than to befriend her through lessons? Admittedly, this was deception at its finest. But it’s not like you haven’t done this before! You were a monster hunter, and this was your job.
You held your breath as you gazed up at the Li-Mei residence above you. This time with a children’s alphabet book under your arm, and a few school supplies to match on your belt. You looked more like a school teacher than a monster hunter if anything, but you swallowed up any leftover pride you had and made your way up to the front porch. From your peripheral vision, you caught the curtains of the attic window shift, and looked up to see a young woman dart away as quickly as you looked. A small smile stretching over your face, as you contemplated on whether or not to wave.
‘Makes me wonder if she watched me walk in from the very first day.’
Your hand went to reach for the doorknob only to remember that you had broken it beforehand. “Oh, ha! Silly me,” you grinned and simply kicked the door open with your boot, shining your flashlight in through the dark and musty house, as you had half expected for the spirit to be waiting for you. “I hope she didn’t mind me breaking down her door…”
Not like she’d even need to use the door…
“Yoohoo! Madam Ghost!” You cheered through the hollow walls, “I’ve come to help you study!”
Silence.
“…You can’t hide from this, I’ve already purchased this Sesame Street book from the shop and there’s no going back.” Realizing that the ghost must be hiding upstairs, you let out a pathetic groan and quickly made your way up in order to confront her. “Madam Ghost!”
You grabbed the cord to the attic and yanked it open only to scream when a dinner plate hurled at your face. “Son of a—!” luckily your reflexes saved you as you ducked just in time to avoid the porcelain piece shattering in your eye. “Miss Ghost!”
Annoyed with this sudden attitude, you gripped your exorcist book hidden just beneath your alphabet one and prepared yourself to deal with a violent spirit. “What was that for?!” You felt the hairs of your neck stand on end as a ghostly shiver passed from just behind you. The dusty layering on the floor shaking as jagged letters formed words from the poltergeist’s invisible touch.
“Sory.” Read the ghost’s wobbly handwriting. “It was just a pranc.”
“It’s not a very funny one,” you scoffed, sitting down right in front of the handwriting and fixing her spelling. “I could’ve lost an eye.”
The ghost’s chilling prescience lingered closer to your warm, living body. Practically standing over you as you could feel the cold breath of death brushing over your forehead. “This is how you properly spell it,” you spoke calmly, despite your flight or fight response kicking in. “Sorry. It was just a prank.”
You felt the cold prescience draw closer and had assumed that the ghost was now sitting right in front of you, writing a sloppy trail of letters that loosely resembled yours, and even trying to write it small just like you.
“Hm. Not bad,” you noted, plopping the Sesame Street book down and gesturing to a dusty patch on the ground. “Can you write your name? I’d like to put a name to my student please.”
Wow, you really did feel like a school teacher.
Some silence followed after your request, and you contemplated on whether or not you should take it back as you were unsure if the ghost was comfortable or not. Before you could open your mouth to say anything however, a sudden shift in the dust caused your eyes to settle.
“Ah! Hu…Tao.” You read aloud at the sloppy array of words. “Hu Tao. Your name is Hu Tao?”
A quick scribble of “yes” was written right beside it.
“Hu Tao! Ah, what a pretty name,” you complimented, the room growing warmer for a brief second before resuming its chilly state. “That’s of Chinese origin, yes?”
Your hand was pulled along by that same ghostly string and sprawled against the previous “yes.” So cute! The ghost was holding your hand!
“Ah…” your eyes trailed over to where the ghost held you and noted the buzzing chill in your nerves at the sensation. It was cold, unfamiliar, and far from comfortable, but you endured it because you thought the action itself was cute for such a violent entity. “I see you like holding my hand.” You chuckled, smiling even more when your hand regained its warmth, indicating that Hu Tao had let go.
“Aww, so soon?” You giggled playfully and opened one of your alphabet books. “Well that’s okay, we’re going to be studying now anyways.”
You pointed to a pencil and flipped to the very first page of the book, starting with the letter A and its lowercase counterpart to make things easy. “Miss…Hu Tao. Can you move that pencil and follow the dotted lines here? We’re going to be working on your handwriting because uh…well,” you shifted your eyes over to the wobbly letters of English that could barely be comprehended as English. “It’s not the best.”
A rush of cold air blew towards the back of your neck and you only shivered in response. Picking up the pencil with your hand and extending it out towards the air beside you.
“Here. Try writing with this.”
You didn’t really expect anything to happen but lo and behold, the spirit grabbed the utensil from your hand. ‘So gentle…’ you remarked, watching as the pencil shakily lifted itself from your fingers and pointed downwards towards the book. “Yeah, you got it,” you mimicked the pen with your finger and traced a slanted line upwards to start writing an uppercase A. “A small line going up, and then a similar one going down.”
You dragged your finger downwards, and if Hu Tao was visible right now, you’d see just how hard she was concentrating just for you. The pencil in her grip shaking as she formed a trembling line from start to finish, all the while glancing at you every so often.
“Pretty good for your first try,” you hummed, now taking your finger and dragging a middle line to connect the two slants. “Now draw a smaller line connecting these two, to form an uppercase A.”
Hu Tao did so. Yet she did so all too sloppily as she wasn’t looking at the paper, but rather at you. You couldn’t see it, obviously; but Hu Tao was indeed looking at you. The glare of violence and brutality no longer present, as it was only replaced with wonder and curiosity.
You were cloaked in leather, yes; and despite not knowing much English, Hu Tao was smart enough to realize that you were a monster hunter. Probably paid to come here and exorcize her is what she assumed, yet despite trying to drive you out and even kill you multiple times, you retained that same innocent smile and laugh. It was unnerving, which is ironic for a spirit of her level, but Hu Tao couldn’t help but feel relieved that you were so nice to her. Even if it were a trick, some foul play to kill her in the end, Hu Tao couldn’t help but feel as if she had finally met someone she could potentially talk to in all her years of isolation.
“Miss Hu Tao?” your brow crinkled as the pencil was now dragging lazily off the dotted line, off the paper, and scratching onto the hardwood floor. “Miss Hu Tao?!”
You watched as the pencil jerked and caused the streak of lead to make an ugly turn upwards. “Oh, sorry…” you sucked air through your teeth at the ruined uppercase A before smiling. “Well, that’s why erasers exist, right? To fix all our unwanted mistakes.”
Hu Tao couldn’t agree more and eagerly flipped the pencil over to erase the embarrassingly long streak from when she zoned out.
Tumblr media
“And that’s how you write a lowercase Q…”
Your voice barely above a whisper, your eyes narrowed in on the near perfect lowercase Q that Hu Tao had drawn after hours of practice with the letters before. You had to admit, for a ghost with horrible motor skills, Hu Tao was a very fast learner. So much so that you basically speed ran the alphabet and managed to get to the letter Q by late in the evening.
“Wow…that’s near perfect…” you yawned, Hu Tao practically buzzing with excitement at your praise and resisting the urge to hug you right then and there.
‘Near perfect! She’s so impressed! I impressed her!’
Nearly about to do cartwheels on the attic floor, Hu Tao glanced at your face to see whether you were smiling, and paused when she saw your eyes fluttering closed like a butterfly’s wings resting in the wind. ‘Sleepy?’ Hu Tao questioned, watching as you struggled to stay awake due to your instinct as a hunter. You were used to staying up on restless nights due to your job mostly taking place at night, yet for some reason you were extra sleepy today as you let your body relax around Hu Tao for the majority of the mission. ‘Ah. I forgot. Living humans need to sleep often to stay healthy.’
Hu Tao watched with curiosity as you consciously tried to fight the sleepiness in order to continue teaching her. Yet the coldness of the attic just felt so…alluring. And all the dust scattered around you two did not aid much in helping you stay awake.
“Next…page…” you sighed, losing the battle to sleep as the weak human inside the hunter submitted to the depths of slumber. “Going onto R…”
Hu Tao panicked as you began to slump over and rushed around the attic to find something soft for you to fall in. Finding a dusty throw pillow and shaking all the dust off before sliding it between your soft head and hardwood floor.
Plop. Went your head as sleep deprivation had taken over and made you fall deep asleep despite the dangerous circumstance. It was so unlike you to be this sleepy while on the job, but since you were so relaxed around Hu Tao your body couldn’t help itself.
‘That was close…!’ Hu Tao remarked as she watched your unconscious body rise and fall with every passing breath. ‘Almost smashed her skull in…’
Hu Tao passed over to your sleeping body as quietly as she could. Watching as you dozed off soundly and almost unprofessionally as well, a hunter sleeping on the job was nothing to be proud of. And quite frankly, Hu Tao was sure you’d get fired if your higher ups ever caught wind of this.
Yet the spirit couldn’t help but find your sleeping figure cute. And stupid. But mostly cute as you were cozy enough to slumber in the presence of a vengeful spirit. A vengeful spirit that just so happened to be her, and a vengeful spirit that just so happened to find you endearing.
‘The living are way too trusting,’ Hu Tao thought, leaning over to where you were sleeping and watching as your lips parted slightly to exhale every time your chest fell. ‘Especially this one.’
Shifting to lie on her stomach, Hu Tao propped her head up on her hands and watched as your hair cascaded over your face like a curtain. Blocking your simple beauty from her sight, and causing her to shift in frustration as she wanted to stare at you more.
…Was that creepy? Well, for a ghost’s standards, maybe not…
Hu Tao couldn’t help herself as she shifted her ghostly body to brush the stray locks away. Your brows scrunching up in your sleep as her cold presence made you shiver. ‘Cold…’ Hu Tao noted, turning her hand to look at it with crestfallen eyes. ‘I’m cold…’
Was it selfish of her to want to keep touching you? Hu Tao let her frosty fingers trail over your leather-covered arm, watching as your body trembled under her touch. Cold. She was cold to you. But your body was just so warm. So warm and full of life, pumped with a body full of warm blood and flesh. How Hu Tao missed the feeling so…
‘This one is so naive…’ Hu Tao gazed up at your heavy eyelids and ended up lying right beside you. Gazing adoringly at you as if you two were lovers in a painting. ‘And yet so beautiful she is…’
If there was anything that Hu Tao learned in her years of purgatory isolation, it was that eternal loneliness was a punishment worse than death. And to have such a friendly soul come wandering up just to see her…she swears she’s never felt more alive.
It was almost like you were an angel sent down to save her.
“Y…/N…” Hu Tao spoke gently, her first words uttered since meeting you. “Y…/N.”
You had told her your name a few alphabet lessons beforehand, and told her that if she managed to write your name neatly, you’d give her a wish. Hu Tao had never been so determined before to earn said desired wish. “Y…/N!” She sounded out in her own whispery voice, pulling the alphabet book from beside you and deciding to study on her own.
She was determined to get that wish.
She knew what she wanted from you.
Tumblr media
Days had blended into weeks and before you knew it, you were coming to visit Hu Tao on a daily basis. What started as simple English lessons to ease her spirit had slowly turned into something more, and while you didn’t want to admit it, you were slowly growing attached.
Taboo. Growing attached to a monster while being a monster hunter was taboo. Your job was to kill her, not befriend her. But it seemed like your body was betraying your morals as you couldn’t help but find the invisible spirit endearing. Was it possible to love something you couldn’t see? You hoped it wasn’t the case, as you found the company of the invisible girl comforting.
Hey, you had gotten better at scaling the hill! You watched as you set your foot on the last step without having to wheeze like you were an old lawn mower. Finding comfort in the way your boots sank into the gravel, as before they were only a hindrance to your hike uphill. “Hu Tao, I'm here!” you called up at the broken attic window, waiting for the curtains to shift to indicate her presence. “Hu Tao!”
Odd. Usually she’d be waiting by the window for you.
“...Hm.” You made your way comfortably up the front steps and traversed through the house with ease. No longer feeling any anxiety or panic as you had done this routinely multiple times. “Maybe she’s just busy with her homework…”
Shrugging it off as something of no concern, you grabbed the cord to the attic door and yanked it down, ready to step into an empty attic room like you always did. Instead however, you walked in on something –or rather, someone– you did not expect to see.
A young woman was sitting on the floor of the dusty attic, scribbling with a pencil you left her and surrounded by several sheets of notebook paper torn from the journal you bought. She didn’t seem to notice you at all, all too absorbed in her kid-like scribbling and it’s there that you realize the whole attic is covered in papers! Circling the woman like some sort of beginner’s ritual as the papers were scattered on the walls, furniture, even ceiling!
“...Hu Tao?!” your eyes widened when you felt a ghostly presence coming from the woman. ‘Wait. That’s Hu Tao?!’
You watched as the woman before you stopped scribbling and turned to see who was calling her name. Eyes lighting up once she saw you and eagerly standing up to greet you. “Y/N!” she cheered, your brain doing a double take as this was also your first time hearing Hu Tao’s voice.
“Ah, so it is you,” you chuckled, still in shock from seeing Hu Tao’s physical form and hearing her voice. “This is…the first time I’ve actually seen you,” you muttered, noting how livly her eyes looked despite being long deceased. “You look cute.”
She perked up at your compliment before laughing to herself and nodding. “Hah! Yeah, I’ve been told that a couple times back when I was alive.” She seemed to emit a feeling of bashfulness from the way she was speaking. Who knew a dead person could have so much personality? “I haven’t been able to show myself in a while because I never really felt the need to. It takes up quite a bit of my energy however, so I’d need to use it wisely.”
“That’s…interesting,” you clicked your tongue at this reveal and tilted your head in confusion. “But why show yourself now?”
“Oh! Well, you see…” Hu Tao picked up one of the scattered papers on the ground and handed it to you, your hands reaching over to brush against the floating object and turning it over to see your name.
‘Y/N.’
Your name written all over the sheet. Scattered as loosely as the papers around you as each individual letter grew more and more neater with each passing stroke. Y/N. Y/N. Y/N. All rambunctiously ordered in a swerving line that tried its best to straighten itself the further it drew on.
Y/N. Y/N. Y/N.
When you looked down at the papers at your feet, it was there that you noticed that all the papers around the attic had your name written on it. Your name only in a sea of scribbles and ink as somewhere along the way, Hu Tao must’ve broken a pencil or two. “Hu Tao…?” you seemed incredibly confused (and rightfully so) as your eyes slowly started to dart over to the ceiling. “What is this?”
Should you be creeped out? Your gut is yelling “YES?!” but your brain is going “I’m curious though, let’s wait.” And so, you listened to your brain because let’s be honest, even I’m curious too.
“Remember when you told me that if I had perfected writing your name, you’d grant me a wish?” Hu Tao spoke with a giggle.
Oh.
So this is what this is about.
“Ah, yes but–” Hu Tao rushed off before you could say anything more.
“I’ve perfected it! I can write your name Y/N!”
Never in your life had you seen a ghost so excited before. Zooming around with giddy as if she were told that she had just won the lottery.
“You’ve really been practicing all this time?” you murmured in awe, watching as one by one, the papers sticking to the ceiling fell like a paper shower.
“Yep! Ever since I could write the alphabet, I was dead set on learning your name!” she floated around the attic with the grace of a dragonfly. Zipping and zooming through the air in a way that made you think she was actually a fae. “Found one!”
You looked up and nearly choked on air as Hu Tao floated down to stand right in front of you. Her locks of brown hair floating idly like gravity never existed, all the while her eyes seemed to glow with a strange jack-o-lantern-like light that made you feel warm rather than creeped out.
“Watch this!” came her haunting voice as she scribbled some letters onto the paper she picked out and showed it to you with the enthusiasm of a child. “Look! Look! It’s your name! I wrote your name!”
And she did. Your pupils widening at the sight as Hu Tao had successfully written your name in correct spelling, perfect size, and perfect calligraphy. A feat to most certainly be proud of as you had only begun teaching Hu Tao proper English for about two weeks.
“It’s beautiful…” you muttered, tracing the straight lines with your finger and watching as Hu Tao lit up at your praise. “And you practiced writing on all of these papers?” You lifted your foot which now had a Y/N paper sticking underneath it.
“Yep! That’s what I did last night since you left,” Hu Tao hummed. “Now can I have my wish?”
“Hm, you are quite demanding. Though that’s not surprising considering how your first words to me were ‘Get out.’” She pouted at your words. “Butttt, you did write fifty something pages of my name for practice. And you did get it perfectly written.”
“Actually I wrote seventy two pages of your name.” Hu Tao clarified.
“Hm, yes, your practice definitely paid off too,” you chuckled. “What would you like to wish for?”
Hu Tao was hesitant in saying what she wanted before reaching her ghostly pale arms out and enveloping your hands with her own. That frosty feeling you’ve grown to love slowly numbing your senses and causing your skin to prickle with goosebumps as she raised your hands to her face.
“Y/N. I want to be with you.”
Your mind had short-circuited. Did you hear her correctly?
“...I want you to take me away from here.”
Her eyes looked so sad and sombered. Mellow with a dread of loneliness you’ve never seen on a person until now. “I want you to help me leave this place. I want to be with you and live with you forever…please.”
She looked so serious. Desperate even as she pleaded for you with her cold, dead eyes to help her be free of this eternal purgatory. ‘I want to be with you.’ Her words echoed, and you felt the one emotion you’ve forced to disappear now re-emerge at the simple begging of a trapped ghost. An emotion that all monster hunters must hide for fear of the guilt that comes after finishing off a job.
Empathy.
“...Okay.” Your voice sounded hoarse, defeated by the choice you had made up in your mind. “Really?!” Hu Tao blinked in surprise. “Yeah.” You mumbled, trying to smile like your life depended on it. “There’s a ritual I can do to relocate spirits if they’re forever trapped in one place. I could transfer you to my house and you can live there with me from now on.”
If you thought Hu Tao was happy then, oh boy, she was ecstatic now.
“Living with you…in your house…” Hu Tao muttered to herself, the room growing warmer as the papers around you started floating due to her excitement. “I’d love that more than anything else! Really I would!”
And then she threw her arms around you. Embracing you in a cold hug and yet she still felt more alive than anything you’ve ever felt before. The scattered papers with your name on them flying around like a whirlwind as Hu Tao was simply too excited not to show it. “Thank you thank you thank you thank you Y/N!” she laughed, a noise akin to a windchime since it was the prettiest thing you’ve heard in a while.
“...No, thank you.” You murmured quietly, hesitantly embracing the trapped geist as you wondered if you’d soon regret your decision.
You really hoped you wouldn’t.
Tumblr media
When you walked up the broken steps leading up to Hu Tao’s house, you felt your mood dampen despite the sunny skies hanging up above. How mocking. The sun just loved to tease you when you were at your lowest point. ‘Please let this go smoothly…’ you told yourself as you looked up at the familiar broken mailbox and police tape-covered porch you’ve come to grow used to. ‘Please don’t let anything go South…’
The walk up the porch steps felt like entering hell. The walk from the first floor to the second felt like walking through flames. The walk from the second floor to the hatch of the attic felt like you were about to greet Satan. A churning feeling in your stomach replacing the once comfortable feeling you’ve felt from all your times visiting Hu Tao. No longer did you feel the same. You knew what you had to do at this moment, and you hoped everything would go to plan.
Reaching up to grab at the cord of the hatch, you gasped when it suddenly flung open and almost lost your balance. However, something cold and comforting caught you before you could fall, and hoisted you up the steps before closing the hatch on your way in.
“WAH–!”
“Y/N!” came Hu Tao’s excited voice, “Almost had a nasty fall there. Wouldn’t want anything happening to my favorite flesh person!”
She set you down with the grace of a gentle wind and moved to be in your line of sight. Wow. Did she get prettier or is the lighting from the sun making her glow?
“Hu Tao…” you smiled at her giddiness and dropped your satchel to the ground. “Thanks for catching me. I probably would’ve fallen on my ass if you hadn’t.”
“No problem! After all, how could my favorite flesh person do the ritual correctly if her buns are bruised!”
Ah. Right. The ritual.
“So that’s what’s got you so excited.” You chuckled. “I thought you’d be happier to see me.”
“I am happy to see you! I’m just even happier because I get to be with you now!”
Oh. That plucked a heart string.
“Hah, understandable…” you avoided her gaze and picked up the satchel you dropped to go to the middle. “I brought all the things needed for the ritual. All you have to do is stand here in the middle and relax.”
“Aye aye captain!” Hu Tao saluted as she hovered over to stand where you set your foot. “I can’t wait to be free with you…”
“Me too.”
Taking out a huge canister of salt, you started pouring it into a large circle surrounding Hu Tao whilst she whistled nonchalantly. Eagerly waiting for you to finish the ritual so she could be free from this wretched attic once more. “Is your attic clean, Y/N?”
“Not really, but you won’t be staying there at all. I can’t imagine moving into another attic after spending your whole life here.” You completed the circle and tossed the canister away behind you, dusting off the excess particles stuck to your skin so your hands wouldn’t feel grainy.
“You mean I get to roam around in your house?!“ Hu Tao exclaimed excitedly.
“Mhm!” You smiled and started pulling out a few candles you bought from the town store and setting them around within an even distance around Hu Tao. “My house will be your house.”
Hu Tao’s cheeks glowed at those words as she watched you light each and every candle with a matchstick pulled from the hole of your sleeve. With each candle ignited, Hu Tao felt as if her own soul was being cast aflame due to her overbearing adoration to be with you. Her savior. Her angel.
She wanted to be with you forever.
“Just try to relax and stay calm,” you voiced as you took your spot at the front of the circle.
“I promise this won’t hurt. That is the last thing I want.”
“You could never hurt me, Y/N.” Hu Tao assured.
But you just might.
“Whatever happens, Hu Tao,” you spoke as you flipped through the pages of your ritual book, “Promise me you won’t be scared?”
“I promise.”
You smiled somberly at her words before looking up to stare at her eyes one more time. Trailing over the flower-like pupils you had grown to adore and forever sinking them into your memory. “Your eyes are beautiful, by the way,” you whispered. “I hope they haunt my dreams every time I sleep…”
Turning to the tattered pages of your book, you lifted it up to read and began chanting in old latin. A small wind picking up in the otherwise silent attic and blowing at the candles surrounding Hu Tao.
‘Just relax…’ you told Hu Tao, but it was mostly towards yourself. ‘Please relax…’
From the corner of your eye you caught Hu Tao smiling. The wind picking up more violently as she stared at you in astonishment. “It’s working!” Hu Tao squealed, lifting her arms up as if she were a kite about to be carried away. “It’s working, it's working!” You felt your body tremble as you kept chanting the words. “I feel so light…”
You smiled sadly at her joy, tears pricking at the corners of your eyes when she laughed. ‘I’m glad…’
“Thank you Y/N! Thank you, thank you, thank you!” you watched as Hu Tao’s ghostly figure started tearing up out of happiness, her body fading away into particles that mimicked lightning bugs flying into the night sky. “I love you so much.”
And as quick as she came into your life, she was gone.
The wind had stopped blowing, the candles had all melted, and you were left alone in a cold and dusty attic, quivering with the book in your hand as you stared at the now empty circle right in front of you. “...Rest in peace, Hu Tao.” You whispered, clasping your hands together in prayer before bowing. “I loved being with you too…”
Kneeling down to reach into your satchel once more, you took out a small pot and filled it to the brim with salt. Placing three incense sticks into it and lighting them all up with a match. As smoke filled the now lifeless attic room, you prayed one more time before biting your lip in order to stop yourself from crying.
“I’m sorry I lied to you.”
Standing up and wiping your watery eyes away, you quickly put on your hunter facade again and left the dusty attic. The sunlight finally breaching in through the window and giving warmth to the room after so many years.
You hated the warmth.

Hello can I please request a scenario where the reader messes with the character by saying “I like you too” instead of “I love you too” with Hu Tao, Furina, UMP45, STAR 15 and Makoto from Persona?? Thank you!!
(Genshin Impact/GFL/Persona 5)
Hu Tao, Furina, Shenhe, UMP45, ST AR-15, and Makoto's S/O messing with them
Adding in Shenhe because I felt like writing her! (As per usual)
Tumblr media
Hu Tao has to take a second to register what S/O had replied with.
"I like you, too"?
Hu Tao halts before her foot is out the door, turning around with a smirk and eyebrow raised.
(Hu Tao) "Oh? We're being like that today are we?"
(S/O) "Like what?"
Hu Tao taps her finger on their nose as she crosses her arms, smiling.
(Hu Tao) "I'm not leaving until you say it properly!"
(S/O) "Psh, no you won't."
(Hu Tao) "Unlike you, I don't need to be physically present at my job today, so I absolutely can!"
S/O had to relent after that. Because she was right, she would prevent S/O from leaving.
And even if they managed to get away, the prank Hu Tao would play as retaliation would probably not be worth it.
Tumblr media
Furina pouts when S/O didn't even say "I love you back". The audacity!
Her hands move to her waist, giving a harsh glare to S/O.
Well, as harsh of a glare as Furina can manage. If anything, it makes her look adorable.
(Furina) "You don't even want to say it back to me, your girlfriend?! Oh, you wound my heart!"
S/O chuckled at her dramatic response.
(S/O) "As if you didn't do this very thing to me last week!"
(Furina) "Hmph! Fine, be that way, for I will not declare my love for you if this is the response I should expect!"
She tilts her head away and begins marching away from the door, still pouting.
It was obvious she wasn't genuinely offended, but two could play at this game!
She could actually keep this bit up for weeks, if prompted.
S/O does not, lest they incur her verbal wrath for the next month or so and demanding a ransom of sweets.
Tumblr media
Shenhe stoically turns to S/O, noticing their lips were trying their best not to break into a full smile.
(Shenhe) "...S/O, did I do something wrong?"
They shook their heads and covered their laughter with one hand.
(S/O) "Sorry, I couldn't resist teasing, Shenhe. I just wanted to see your reaction."
Shenhe blinks and tilts her head in confusion.
(Shenhe) "What do you mean? All you said was that you liked me."
(S/O) "Oh, that's what you're referring to. I figured you were going to ask me why I said 'I like you' instead I love you."
(Shenhe) "That goes without saying, does it not? For us, it means the same thing."
S/O chuckled and couldn't disagree with that logic.
(S/O) "Got me there."
Shenhe, for her part, was still very confused.
What was the joke?
Tumblr media
45 frowns before she turns back to S/O, adjusting the hair out her face.
(UMP45) "Wow, so that's what I get after opening my heart to you?"
Those words were rarely said by 45, even less so when she was about to depart for an operation.
She looked genuinely hurt, which made S/O rush up to try to ease her anger.
(S/O) "S-Sorry! It was just a joke-"
They were interrupted when 45 broke into a smirk and cut them off with a kiss.
(UMP45) "Mhm, and so was that. Now, say it properly this time, would you?"
Both of them chuckled lightly before S/O gave the correct reply.
(S/O) "I love you, too."
(UMP45) "Not so hard, was it?
Tumblr media
STAR pouts when she hears S/O's response, making her face them.
STAR had a hard time saying it without blushing madly, and this time was no exception.
So to get that in response?
(ST AR-15) "Hey, that's not funny!"
S/O barely held back their amusement, making STAR's annoyance grow.
STAR flicks their forehead gently, taking care to not put too much of her T-Doll strength into it.
(ST AR-15) "S-Say it, already!"
With a tight hug around her, S/O gives in, but still laughing.
(S/O) "Sorry, sorry, couldn't resist. Love you too, STAR."
(ST AR-15) "Good..."
She squeezes them back before leaving the room.
Tumblr media
Makoto hesitates on departing, taking in what S/O had replied with.
(Makoto) "Like me?"
(S/O) "It's what I said!"
Makoto looks a bit disheartened at the response.
(Makoto) "I see..."
Before her mind could wander, it was brought back to S/O when she heard them chuckle.
(S/O) "Sorry, I didn't mean to make you sad! I just wanted to tease you."
Makoto's blush crept up on her cheeks for a brief moment before she cleared her throat.
(Makoto) "Ah, my apologies. I suppose I'm still getting used to this kind of banter in a relationship-"
S/O cut her off by giving her a kiss on the cheek, making her face burn red for a different reason.
(S/O) "Don't apologize. You're cute when you blush."
Makoto stammers over her words before simply sighing and smiling back.
(Makoto) "I'll just take the compliment...Next time, I should play a joke like that on you."
Which would be easy, if she had a sense of humor.
