South Korea Announces Construction of Enormous Futuristic Spokeless Ferris Wheel

South Korea has announced that it will be building the world's largest hubless Ferris wheel. The futuristic structure is called Seoul Ring, and it's set to go up in Haneul Park. The location will mean that guests will get a sweeping view of Seoul's Hangang River. Set to be completed by 2025, the Ferris wheel is a major tourism investment in the city.

Connection of new pipes to old pipes

The most common way to connect a new drain, vent or service line to an existing line is to install a tee. To do this, shut off the water supply to the existing lines and drain the lines. Flush all toilets and instruct others not to use the drains. After opening a drain line, make sure no one uses a sink or faucet that empties into the line. Seal open drain lines with a rag to block fumes. When connecting pipes made of different materials, make sure the transition piece meets local codes.

It usually doesn't matter where exactly you connect to an existing pipe, but the new pipe must be placed accurately. Therefore, it is usually easier to start laying the pipes in the new location and run them toward the existing pipes rather than the other way around.

Once the pipes are in place, it usually takes less than two hours to connect the new pipe to the old. Prepare for the job by laying new pipe from the new connection point to the existing pipe; run the last pipe a little longer than necessary so you can cut it off when you make the connection to the old pipe.

Laying and marking the pipes

To connect a new plastic drain pipe to an old steel pipe, run the new pipe into the room. Prime and glue two pieces of pipe 12.5 cm long with a T-piece. Temporarily relocate the pipe - longer than necessary - so that it comes close to the old pipe. (If you are running the pipe through a stud wall, you may need to cut out some of the holes with a reciprocating saw.) Dry-fit the tee onto the new pipe and hold it next to the existing pipe. Mark the existing pipe for cutting.

Support the pipe

Support the pipe at the top and bottom with riser clamps to keep it from falling or swaying while you work, and to keep the PVC fitting from supporting the weight of the drain. You will probably need to add a new bolt or two, as well as a block for the top clamp.

Position T-piece

Slide a hubless fitting onto each end of the old pipe, push back the band coupling, and fold up the neoprene sleeves. Position the tee assembly. Fold the neoprene sleeves over the assembly and slide the metal bands over the sleeves. Tighten the nuts with a hex wrench.

Cut the new pipe

Cut the new pipe to the exact length and check that it fits into the tee; you may need to loosen the nuts and turn the piece slightly. Prime and glue the pipe to the fitting.
