PROLOGUE: START OF SOMETHING NEW
Tumblr media
↳ Pairing: Hueningkai x Reader
↳ word count: 2.2k words
↳ rating: PG
↳ genre: Floof
↳ Warnings: BTS Maknae line are jerks but they mean well they’re just idiots, Kai is drinking alcohol idk if u guys can handle that yet
Tumblr media
“Kai, put down your phone and go talk to someone else other than the boys.” A scolding voice sounded out.
Kai flinched in surprise as he looked up, another red solo cup thrusted into his hands.
“Lea, I’m pretty sure drinking grape juice in a party is as lame as talking to my friends at a phone the whole time.” Kai said hesitantly.
“I’m still your older sister and I will not hand you alcohol willingly.” Lea rolled her eyes and propped a hand on her hip. “Still, we’ll be stuck in this resort for three more days—you’ve been refusing to talk to these kids after you played basketball with them once.”
“You don’t understand,” Kai whined before lowering his voice in a whisper. “They can’t even shoot a basket.”
Lea shakes her head.
“Kai,” she clicks her tongue. “For the love of god, please. Talk to other people.”
The boy only blinked as his older sister turned abruptly and left, swallowed by the crowd in seconds. Kai shook his head, placing the cup his sister handed him in one corner and running his hand through his freshly dyed blonde hair. His eyes fell on a girl at the side who was giving him heart-eyes, making him smile softly.
“Hello.”
Tumblr media
“Jeon fucking Jungkook, set me free or I swear to god, I’m putting itch cream in your underwear drawer.”
Jungkook only cackled, hands flat on Y/N’s back as he pushed her forward. On either side of the teenage girl, the boy’s best friends Taehyung and Jimin held her arms and dragged her along with them.
“Guys, I don’t want to party.”
“You’re a teenager—what teenager doesn’t want to party?” Jimin snorted as they finally stopped walking smack-dab in the middle of the party.
“Here, drink this.” Taehyung said, patting her shoulder lightly.
“This is tequila.” Y/N deadpanned.
Taehyung shrugged as Jungkook raised his eyebrow, offering a cup he mysteriously had in his hand.
“Would you like something stronger?”
“Kook—“
“Come on, you’re an adult.”
“It’s weird that you’re my older brother yet you’re encouraging me to drink.” Y/N sighed, smelling the content of her cup—surprisingly sweet. “This smells weird.”
“It has orange juice.” Jimin shrugged.
“I wouldn’t let you drink if you weren’t so uptight.” Jungkook shrugged. “Come on, you’re a kid. Have fun!”
Y/N sighed, rolling her eyes and tipping the cup back. The drink was surprisingly pleasant-tasting, save for the burn at the back of her throat.
“Oh dear god,” Y/N coughed, hand thumping on her chest. “That burns.”
“Alcohol is called liquid courage for a reason—“ Jungkook said, eyes trailing up to the ceiling in thought. “Definitely don’t tell mom I’m letting you do this, but for legal purposes, you are under my supervision.”
“Oh, mom’s going to fucking murder your ass.”
“And just for that—“ Jungkook snorted hand clasping on her arm as a bright light shone on him. “You know what I’m gonna do?”
“Oh, what are you gonna do tough guy?”
“Karaoke night!” Jungkook screamed, making Taehyung and Jimin laugh out loud as the former shoved his own sister in front of him. “She’s singing Start of Something New!”
“What?!” Y/N whirled around. “No, I’m not!”
As she turned back to berate her brother for shoving her in the spotlight, all three of her idiots were missing. The next thing she knew, hands were pulling her up to the stage.
Tumblr media
After trying (and failing) to flirt, Kai was sitting down in another chair—this time clutching a red solo cup with a coke and soju mix he remembered Yeonjun teaching him the last time they were in a party. His other hand held his phone in his hands again, having just pulled up his messages to send a text to the gc when he was almost blinded by a bright light.
“What?” He mumbled under his breath as he looked up to see a lot of faces peering down at him. “What did I do?”
“Karaoke night!” He heard a voice scream from nearby, followed by a girl screaming in protest.
“Wait, I don’t sing—“ Kai yelped as hands grasped onto him. “Wait—“
He felt himself shoved onto a small platform which acted as a makeshift stage.
“I don’t know how to sing.” Kai said, scratching his head.
A flailing girl was shoved onto the platform next to him. He can hear the girl mumble curses under her breath, her hands shaking in rage as she set down a cup of what looked like tequila in her hands. He watched the girl take the microphone in her hands, angrily speaking into it.
“Jeon Jungkook, Kim Taehyung, Park Jimin—You hope you all die very gruesome deaths within the next hour because you wouldn’t like it when I get my hands on your fucking asses.” She hissed, sighing as loud rambunctious laughter came back to her from somewhere in the room.
Kai smiled awkwardly as he gaze fell onto him, making her stumble back slightly. It was then that her face heated up, realizing that she was in front of an audience at the moment.
“Karaoke Night.” Kai mumbled, eyes falling over to the crowd and wincing once he saw Lea holding up her phone.
“I-I don’t sing.” The girl said weakly as another kid who was acting as the party host of the night arrived with another microphone, plopping it down into Kai’s hands.
“You guys will thank me for this one day, you know.” The boy snickered before sauntering off of the stage.
“I-I don’t think I will.” The girl spoke softly as she looked after the boy.
There was a brief silence between Kai and the girl as they waited for the music to begin, a familiar tune sounding out after a few seconds. Kai hesitated slightly, stepping back for a moment before releasing a heavy sigh and lifting the microphone to his lips.
Living in my own world,
Didn’t understand
That anything can happen
When you take a chance
Kai’s face reddened when the girl lowered her head as he sang, her hair covering her face. Slightly embarrassed, especially when she saw Lea’s phone blink—signalling that she was recording—he sighed again, scratching the back of his neck as he moved to leave the stage. Before he could, he heard another voice filter through the speakers.
I never believed in
What I couldn’t see
Kai turned back to the girl, whose eyes are trained on the lyrics projected in a nearby screen—hands tightly clutching the microphone. Kai swore he could see three blinking phones from somewhere by the bar. Ignoring this, the boy stepped back to his spot next to the girl.
I never opened my heart,
to other possibilities.
The girl turned over to him with an unsure smile, making him smile kindly in encouragement. Their voices harmonized together in a beautiful melody as he lifted his own microphone to sing along.
I know that something has changed,
never felt this way.
Kai watched as the girl took an unsure glance off to the side—where the three recording phones were—before looking back at him with a bright, more confident smile.
And right here tonight,
This could be the start of something new.
It feels so right to be here with you, oh.
Kai could feel more people turning over to look at the two of them on stage. The song was getting more upbeat.
And now, looking in your eyes.
I feel in my heart, the start of something new.
Kai, perhaps feeling the effects of the alcohol he took a few minutes ago, felt heat wash over him. Feeling more confident than before, he pulled off his jacket and placed it on the floor as he took the girl’s hands in his. He grinned at the cheers from the crowd, and the light snort coming from the girl.
I never knew that it could happen till it happened to me.
The girl giggled as he spinned her around. She placed her hand on his shoulder as she stopped, grip still tight on the microphone as she sang.
I didn’t know it before, but now it’s easy to see.
At the high note, there were cheers erupting from the crowd. He can see his sister sway along with the crowd and the three men by the bar scream at the top of their lungs.
It’s the start of something new,
It feels so right to be here with you, oh.
The girl pulled away from him with a giddy smile.
And now looking in your eyes,
I feel in my heart.
The start of something new.
The start of something new.
He can hear the host coming up behind him as the song faded away.
The start of something new.
The two teens smiled at each other as claps erupted from the crowd.
Tumblr media
This time, Kai found himself lounging in a standing table with the girl he sang with right outside the venue. He was having a genuinely good time as he talked to the girl about the experience.
“That was honestly the first time I’ve ever done that.” He laughed, making the girl laugh.
“Same!” She giggled. “Honestly, I wasn’t even picked. My brother was, he just shoved me over instead.”
“Imagine if I sang with him instead,” Kai wondered to himself making the girl laugh.
The girl laughed as the host arrived to his table, setting down two cups.
“You guys did great earlier for two people who supposedly couldn’t sing,” The host joked, patting them on the back. “Good job.”
Kai and the girl exchanged glances before laughing as the host left them. She shook her head and offered her hand out.
“My name’s Y/N.”
“Kai.”
“Nice to meet you,” Y/N grinned, taking a sip of her drink.
“You too, Y/N who doesn’t sing.” Kai snorts as he picked up his cup.
“No, I swear to god I don’t.” Y/N laughed. “That’s more of my brother’s alley—music and shit.”
“And what would be yours?”
“Math? Science?” Y/N chuckles. “Anything in a book.”
“Sounds fascinating.” Kai nodded. “Mine’s basketball.”
“Wait, wait—“ The girl almost choked, laughing. “You’re basketball dude?”
Kai blinked in confusion as the girl, almost lost in the sound of her laughter.
“You were the guy playing basketball with my brother and his friends the other day!” Y/N laughed, making Kai’s eyes widen.
“Your brother is the one who didn’t know what a point guard was!”
“Are you kidding me? Of course he knew what the was, the three of them were in the freaking basketball varsity team.” Y/N laughed out loud. “They were making fun of you, dude.”
“Oh my god.” Kai mumbled under his breath, laughing at himself.
“They do that a lot.” Y/N shook her head as she leaned back. “But they were right, you know. You do seem like a fun guy.”
“They deduced that from making me teach three varsity players how to shoot ball?”
“Yep,” Y/N giggled, making Kai smile widely.
The boy bit his lip to suppress how big his smile had gotten. He wouldn’t admit it to anyone, but that was the most fun he’s had ever since he was promoted captain of the basketball team.
“Hey, can I get your number?”
“I don’t know yet,” The girl shrugged, quirking her lips to a small smile. “I still haven’t figured out whether you’re a bonehead jock or not.”
5!
“Would a bonehead jock go up to the stage and sing a love song with you?” Kai raised his eyebrow.
4!
“Touche.” Y/N giggled, holding out her hand. “Give me your phone, then.”
Kai smiled, handing her his phone and taking hers in his hands.
3!
“You know,” Kai said with a smile as he took a photo of himself for the contact. “I really enjoyed today with you.”
“Did you?”
2!
“I did.” Kai hummed, giving back her phone and taking his.
1!
Happy New Year!
He smiled at the photo of herself that she took on his phone. Y/N turned, eyebrows raising as she saw Jungkook, Taehyung and Jimin at the side beckoning her over—Jungkook pointing over to his phone, showing their mother’s caller ID. She turned to say farewell to Kai, but he was too busy marvelling over his phone.
Taking one glance at the sky, covered in colorful fireworks, she shot one last smile Kai’s way before turning around and walking over to her brother and his friends.
“Is it okay if I text you tonight?” Kai asked after a few seconds, gaining his courage to face the girl—only to find no one. “Wh—Y/N?”
He sighed, rolling his eyes with a smile as Lea ran up towards him and slinging an arm around his torso.
“There’s my baby!” Lea greeted. “Who knew I’d see you actually be half-decent at something out of the basketball court? Why didn’t you tell me you could sing?”
Kai blinked over at the girl before looking down at his phone, smiling softly at the photo of Y/N.
“I really didn’t know.”
That night was the start of something new.

Y/N bit her lip, looking around anxiously as she and Taehyun walked side-by-side. The boy had his arms looped around with the girl’s as he scrolled through his phone with a frown.
“Soobin-hyung and Yeonjun-hyung lost Beomgyu-hyung again.” Taehyun mumbled with a roll of the eyes as they arrived at Y/N’s locker.
The boy pocketed his phone and narrowed his eyes at the girl, leaning on the neighboring lockers.
“You seem agitated.”
“What? Me?” Y/N asked, brushing her hair back as she pulled open her locker.
“Yeah, everything okay?”
“Sort of,” Y/N winced. “I’m just not in the mood to listen to Jinkyeong preach about your teammates right now. Kai and I are having a hard time practicing for the call-backs recently too, since the practice for nationals started.”
Taehyun quirked his lips up, shrugging as he checked around for Jinkyeong.
“I don’t think she’s here, I told them to put in some practice for Decathlon. I’m surprised she didn’t ask you to come.”
“I told her I didn’t want to at the moment,” Y/N shrugged, rummaging inside her locker. “To say she was disappointed was quite the understatement, honestly.”
Taehyun shrugged again.
“High school is unfortunately run by stereotypes, and no matter how smart she is—Jinkyeong believes in that.” The boy sighed. “You know we aren’t like what she tells you, right?”
“You guys were my first friends here.” Y/N said. “Kai was my first friend here. She might be my friend, but she can’t make me change what I feel about you guys.”
Taehyun smiled softly as Y/N furrowed her eyebrows, leaning closer to her door.
“What’s this?” She wondered.
There was a small note stuck on the door of her locker—unnoticeable until she turned to look at it.
“Exit the cafeteria and head straight, climb the stairs to the library and enter the fire exit next to it.” Y/N mumbled.
“That’s Kai’s secret place.” Taehyun chuckled, pushing himself off the lockers and checking his watch. “You should go talk to him, he’s been in a weird place recently. I should go help the hyungs find Beomgyu-hyung anyway.”
A smile suddenly made its way to Y/N’s lips as she glanced back down at the piece of paper in her hands.
“Okay, text you later?”
“Tell me what happens.” Taehyun ruffled her hair, chuckling as he watched the girl book it towards his best friend.
Whipped.
Tumblr media
Y/N peered past the glass door to see a tall blonde leaning on the railings of the roof, hands playing with a pink rose in his hands. She pushed past the door, making the boy turn with a grin.
“Hey.”
“Hey,” Y/N nodded, crossing her arms as she looked around. “This is your secret place, hm?”
The area was littered with different flowers—orchids, small rose bushes, gumamelas and jasmine flowers even. There was a wide-open area in the middle with benches.
“Yeah,” Kai chuckled, turning back to the sky. “Courtesy of the science club, which means that the basketball club has no idea where it is. Except for Tae and the hyungs, I mean.”
Y/N smiled as she stood next to him, leaning on the railings and looking up at the sky too.
“It’s pretty here.”
“Isn’t it?” Kai chuckled, looking back down at the rose in his hands and picking out the thorns.
He turned it around in his hands once more before turning back to Y/N and handing it over.
“For you,”
“Oh, I shouldn’t—”
“I picked it for you.”  Kai said, smiling wider once Y/N gingerly accepted the rose. “How have you been?”
“Around.” Y/N nodded. “Jinkyeong’s a good friend but it’s kind of exhausting to deal with her anti-basketball agenda. Taehyun’s been keeping me sane, though.”
“I get that,” Kai laughed, nodding. “Taehyun’s a great guy. I feel lucky to have him with me too.”
“How about you?” Y/N asked, tilting her head. “How’s it feel to be Hueningkai?”
Kai’s smile faded from his face, making him look down and shrug.
“It’s okay.”
“Kai?”
“Hm?”
“What’s wrong?”
“I should be happy to have the whole school wrapped around my finger and shit like that, right?” Kai mumbled, brushing his hands across his face. “But it’s just such a big responsibility to bear at this point. I’m not sure I even want this.”
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows as she took Kai’s hand and led him over to a bench, holding his hand. Kai didn’t speak for a while, fiddling with her fingers before huffing.
“Basketball is all I know,” he mumbled. “I did this because I’m good at it, and I have Tae and the hyungs—but I didn’t think I’d have to live through so much expectations. I just wanted to have fun.”
“It isn’t fun for you anymore?”
“I mean it is,” Kai said, hesitantly. “it’s just that day? When I sang with you on-stage? It was the most fun I’ve had since I became captain.”
Y/N sighed, intertwining their hands before leaning her head on his shoulders.
“I get you, you know.” Y/N said. “Expectations can be such a bitch sometimes.”
“Right?”
“Mhm, my family has a lot on me because of Jungkook, you know.” Y/N confessed. “I love him, I do, but sometimes I feel like my family is expecting me to do so much because he’s so successful in his field.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” Y/N giggled. “I’d do everything for Kook, but you know—the what ifs in my head. When Jungkook pursued music, I threw myself into my studies. He was so great and talented and I wanted to be like that too—”
“You are—”
“Not like him, but thanks.” Y/N squeezed his hand. “But yeah. What if it’s something I want to do, you know? Sing and perform?”
“What if that’s something I want to do, too?” Kai asked.
Y/N raised her head and turned to him with a grin.
“Then we do our best.” Y/N said. “We have a chance—callbacks.”
“The school’s going to shit about me joining theater, you know.” Kai joked, making Y/N snort.
“Screw what they think.” Y/N shook her head. “What you should care about is what you want to do.”
“So should you, then.” Kai said, smiling softly as he turned to her. “If you want to do music and perform, do it.”
Y/N smiled, eyes flicking down to his lips.
“Only if I get to do it with you.”
Kai smiled back, leaning forward slightly. Their foreheads touched each other, making the teens close their eyes. Y/N waited for their lips to connect as she felt Kai’s brush hers—when there was a loud shrilling noise.
“That’s the bell.” Kai mumbled in disappointment as Y/N pulled away with a blush.
“Y-Yeah.” Y/N replied as her phone rang, making her turn away to pick it up. “Hello? Tae? What do you mean Beomgyu won’t leave the bleachers without me? What do you mean he thinks he can’t enter the café without me—Be there in a second.”
Kai looked down with a blush as Y/N hang up. There was a tiny moment of silence before Y/N cleared her throat.
“Beomgyu wants bread, so we’re going to the café. Come with?”
Kai looked up, smiling softly and taking her hand.
“Sure.”
Y/N grinned as she helped him stand. She leaned up and pressed a soft kiss on his cheek, burning bright red.
“That’s for—uh—earlier, since we got interrupted.”
Kai smiled widely, eyes twinkling at the girl.
“We can continue later on, right?”
Y/N chuckled, pulling him out of the rooftop.
“Yeah, just don’t tell Taehyun.”
“This can be our little secret.”

Yeonjun’s fast fingers drift across the piano as if it was second nature. His eyes shifted towards the girl leaning on the piano, singing her heart out with an enthusiastic smile. Abruptly, Yeonjun ended the song and turned to the drama adviser—Professor Kim Seokjin—sitting in the front row. Yeonjun subtly shook his head, followed by an amused snort by the teacher.
“Honey, I have no idea who told you that you were good enough for the lead at the moment.” Professor Kim said, lifting his checklist and scribbling something. “Take some lessons and come back to me in two years. Next.”
Yeonjun rolled back his shoulder as another student stepped towards the stage, preparing for their piece. Dahyun sat in the second row of the theater, relaxed as she waited for her turn to audition with an arrogant smirk. Unbeknownst to everyone in the theater, a mop of blonde hair stood at the back of the theater—barely concealed behind the janitor’s cart.
“You know that mop isn’t enough to hide you right?”
The blonde yelped as he turned with wide eyes, facing an amused Y/N with crossed arms as she leaned her shoulder on the wall. Immediately, Kai relaxed.
“Hey, Y/N.” He mumbled, turning back to the audition with a wince as he heard another NEXT.
“Hey. You come to audition?”
“Just had some time to watch.” Kai shrugged. “Wanted to see Yeonjun-hyung here in his element too.”
“Ah right,” Y/N nodded as she turned back to the stage, flinching slightly at the off-pitch sounds coming from the current performer. “Hey, why don’t we go sit here at the back instead of hiding back here.”
“Yeah, yeah. That’s nicer.” Kai agreed as Y/N’s hand grasped his loosely, pulling him over.
Kai tilted as he settled in his seat, watching the auditions intently. He saw Y/N perk up when Yeonjun turned back to the audience with a frown, eyes flying to them at the back. Both teens shot him a small wave, making him lighten up and wave back. Before any of them can do anything else, Dahyun stood up and puffed up her curls.
“Professor Kim, why don’t I audition first and show these amateurs how pros do it?”
Yeonjun rolled his eyes as Professor Kim turned and shot her a deadpan look. The teacher looked back down at his list.
“It appears you’re the last one, do what you want.”
Yeonjun sighed again, shaking his head as Dahyun strutted up to the stage.
“I made my own arrangements, Junie.”
“It’s Yeonjun—we’re not friends.”
The senior was still ignored as the girl went into position—for a song set in a slow tempo, with no choreography. Kai and Y/N exchanged glances before looking back at Yeonjun, who just shrugged back. An upbeat tuned started to blast out of the speakers, and Dahyun launched into a performance.
It’s hard to believe,
that I couldn’t see.
You were always right beside me.
Y/N and Kai blinked at each other once more. Dahyun launched into more upbeat choreography, a fake smile plastered on her face.
Thought I was alone,
with no one to hold.
But you were always right beside me.
Yeonjun clenched his fists in irritation as he moved towards his piano to collect the music sheets.
This feeling’s like no other.
I want you to know.
Professor Kim appeared to not be paying attention, having pulled out his phone and scrolling.
I’ve never had someone that knows me like you do,
the way you do.
I’ve never had someone as good for me as you,
no one like you.
Professor Kim pocketed his phone and surveyed the seats with pursed lips as the song approached it’s end.
So lonely before,
I finally found what I’ve been looking for.
Dahyun stopped her performance, making Professor Kim stand with hands in his pockets.
“Anyone else who’s going to audition?”
Professor Kim’s eyes surveyed the theater—locking with Y/N’s as he rose his eyebrows. He looked back at his phone with pursed lips.
“3, 2, 1.” He sighed in disappointment. “No more auditions.”
“Wait!”
Kai flinched as Y/N shot up next to him, stumbling over towards Professor Kim.
“I want to audition.”
Professor Kim looked over at her with a frown.
“Audition for singles are over.” Professor Kim raised an eyebrow. “You’re late.”
Yeonjun stood at the stage, clutching his music sheets with interest. Dahyun snickered at the front, arms crossed as she stuck her hip out to the side.
“But—“
“I’ll go audition with her.” Kai sighed as he stood from his chair, rubbing the back of his head.
Yeonjun gasped in excitement from the stage as Dahyun gaped in anger.
“Kai!” Dahyun squeaked in anger.
The boy ignored her as he stepped forward to place a hand on Y/N’s shoulder. He shot Yeonjun a small smile before looking back at the Professor.
“We’ll do a couple audition.”
“Mr. Huening, I called for auditions and neither of you answered.” Professor Kim said as he glanced at his phone. “Perhaps the next musical. I have class in thirty minutes and I still need to stop by for coffee.”
Y/N sighed in disdain as Professor Kim breezed past. Kai and Yeonjun smiled apologetically, the latter turning back to collect his things from the piano. Dahyun smirked arrogantly as she spoke up.
“It’s okay, Y/N.” She giggled, waving her fingers. “I’m sure they’re accepting help backstage!”
Kai rolled his eyes as Dahyun stepped backstage towards the exit. He smiled gently at Y/N.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, I don’t know what made me try to get an audition anyways.” Y/N shook her head.
Kai furrowed his eyebrows as he and Y/N walked towards the stage to meet Yeonjun, who was still sorting his papers.
“I’m sure if you had the chance to audition, you’d be the star immediately.” Kai said. “I know what you sound like and it’s leagues better than Dahyun.”
“Doubt that. The most I do with music is record demos as samples for my brother when he produces stuff, that’s all.”
Kai chuckled, shaking his head at the girl’s refusal to acknowledge her talent. They reached Yeonjun, making the older boy smile at the two.
“Hey, guys!” He greeted. “Sorry for that earlier, Y/N. Would have loved to hear you sing, I heard you were good.”
“Ah, not that goo—“
“Are you kidding, hyung? She’d crush the stage.” Kai shook his head, smiling over at Y/N—making her blush.
“That good, huh?” Yeonjun raised his eyebrow as he turned back to his piano and shifted through some papers.
He pulled out three sheets—handing two to Kai and Y/N. Yeonjun sat back down on the piano.
“Show me.”
“I—I don’t—“ Y/N blushed furiously. “I don’t think I should—“
“Come on, I don’t really wanna leave without at least hearing you both—especially you, Hueningie.” Yeonjun smiled in encouragement as he shot both a hopeful look.
“Hyung—“
“Come on, Kai.”
The boy sighed, conceding as he looked back down at the paper.
“I’ll do it if Y/N does.”
The girl whipped over to Kai with wide eyes, blinking in shock as she looked back down at the music sheet.
“Fine but just once.” Y/N mumbled under her breath, clearing her throat as she looked back down at the sheet. “Okay.”
Yeonjun smiled in triumph as Kai shot the girl a soft grin, looking down at his own sheet. Yeonjun began to play once more, lithe fingers pressing keys to produce a beautiful harmony.
“Kai, go.”
It’s hard to believe
that I couldn’t see.
You were always there beside me.
Y/N grinned at Kai’s concentrated face. She turned over to him with a soft smile.
Thought I was alone
with no one to hold,
but you were always right beside me.
Kai turned his head, a smile on his lips as he met Y/N’s gaze. They looked at each other softly, making the elder in the room raise his eyebrow in curious amusement.
This feeling’s like no other.
I want you to know.
Kai reached out and grasped her hand as he sang, a rare smile on his face. Yeonjun kept playing, head turning back to the entrance to see someone walk back in.
That I’ve never found someone
that knows me like you do
the way you do.
Yeonjun smiled to himself as he turned back to the piano, his peripheral vision following a tall figure walk inside the theater with a sharp gaze.
And I’ve never found someone
as good for me as you,
no one like you.
So lonely before,
I finally found what I’ve been looking for.
Yeonjun played the final notes, a smile on his face as he turned to the two.
“That was good.” He said, turning over to the figure in the audience. “What did you think, Yoongi-hyung?”
Kai and Y/N turned to the audience in shock, seeing Professor Kim nod with an impressed smile.
“I expect to see you both in the callbacks.” Professor Kim said, picking up his forgotten bag at the front row. “Yeonjun, help them practice. I’m sure they’ll need all the help they can get.”
“Roger.” Yeonjun saluted as Professor Kim turned back around to leave.
Y/N and Kai exchanged alarmed glances.
Some things never turn out the way you plan them to.

INTRODUCTION
Brief character introduction:
➺ Y/N L/N: the genius freak. Known as the smartest kid in school, Y/N leads her school’s decathlon team to a win every year. She dreams to start pursuing music, but it’s hard to change the way people know you especially in high school. Thankfully though, her older brother Jungkook (a well-known music producer in Seoul) offers to take her with him after a brief family vacation.
➺ Hueningkai: The Playmaker. Burdened with his impeccable basketball skills, Kai is the captain of the basketball team of Bighit High. Kai stays close to his best friends, four other basketball players, as they bask in the spotlight. Secretly, he wishes to be someone else other than the basketball guy.
➺ Kang Taehyun: The Brainy Jock. Taehyun is Hueningkai’s best friend, which is the only why he was convinced to join the basketball team. In truth, Taehyun would rather curl up in the library and soak up all the information in each ad every book. He’s the captain of Bighit High’s decathlon team in addition to being one of the most precious basketball players.
➺ Choi Beomgyu: Confused Basketball. He honestly doesn’t know what he’s doing outside the basketball court. He’s cute and round though, and that is all that matters.
➺ Choi Yeonjun: The Superstar. He lives in two stages, the one in the theater and the one in the basketball court. Yeonjun lives to be in the spotlight, and it works due to his amazing looks, and because he’s the best singer, actor and dancer in the school.
➺ Choi Soobin: Mother. Soobin is a great basketball player, but he dislikes practice and playing. Soobin keeps getting asked why he stays in the team and he explains it’s because he’s tall (he’s there because he thinks he needs to take care of the rest of the boys, because they’d be in jail otherwise)
