1. Donations pour in after Michigan town defunded library over LGBTQ books

In the days after an Ottawa County community defunded its public library in a spat over LGBT-themed graphic novels, more than $50,000 in donations have poured in to help keep the doors open.

The donations to support Patmos Library in Jamestown Township, made to two GoFundMe campaigns run by local residents, had received donations from nearly 1,000 people as of early Sunday afternoon — just three days after the campaigns were launched Thursday. “It’s completely outdone any expectations I had,” said Jesse Dillman, organizer of one of the GoFundMe campaigns. “This is hugely encouraging.”

2. Colorado to end sales tax for period products, diapers this week

Coloradans will soon be able to purchase period products and diapers without paying state sales taxes, thanks to a new law taking effect Wednesday.

The law, House Bill 1055, expands sales tax exemptions for adult and youth diapers and period products including tampons, pads, menstrual cups, sponges, sanitary napkins and panty liners. Originally, the tax exemption was scheduled to begin in 2023, but it was amended in June to start on Aug. 10 instead.

3. California to become 1st state to offer free school lunches for all students

Beginning this school year, California will be the first state to implement the Universal Meals program, providing free meals to all schoolchildren. The program will make sure all kids have access to free meals at school. It’s a big win for the district and the students.

On average, 1 out of every 5 Californians does not know where their next meal will come from. So that’s why the Merced Union High School District’s director of nutritional services says health and equity are top of mind.

4. Cornea made from pig collagen gives people who were blind 20/20 vision

Corneas made from pig collagen have restored sight for people who were previously legally blind or visually impaired. Two years after the operations, none of the recipients have reported serious complications or adverse side effects.

Mehrdad Rafat at Linköping University in Sweden and his colleagues manufactured a flexible yet resilient dome that resembles a contact lens by extracting and purifying collagen from porcine skin. Following successful trials, the team began testing the artificial corneas in human volunteers.

All 20 people in the trial had corneal blindness due to keratoconus, a condition in which the cornea thins and bulges outward from the centre of the eye. Fourteen were legally blind before the operation and six had severely impaired sight. Afterwards, everyone had improved vision. Three of the formerly blind participants had 20/20 vision following the procedure.

5. 12yo boy with his bodyboard saved a family of four from drowning in the sea

This Sunday in Biarritz (France, big surfing spot with huge waves), a family was in a dangerous area, about to be carried away by the sea, the father and his 5yo boy were drowning, the mother and the other kid found a very small rock to saved their life but the waves were crushing them. A 12yo body boarder saw them from afar, swam to them at full speed and thanks to his body-board, could grab them. A few minutes later more help came and everyone was happily saved.

6. Thousands of beagles saved from drug trials in US

Nearly 4,000 beagles are looking for new homes after what is thought to be one of the biggest ever dog rescue efforts in the US. The dogs were being bred at a facility in Virginia that then sold them on to laboratories for drug experiments.

But the company has now been shut down because of animal rights violations — and charities are on a mission to rehome the dogs. The breeding facility in Cumberland, owned by company Envigo RMS, was sued in May by the US Department of Justice which accused it of multiple acts of animal cruelty.

7. Rare albino hedgehog saved from ‘death’s door’ after being rescued by 6-year-old boy

A rare albino hedgehog has been rescued from a village in north Wales after his mother was killed in a gardening accident. The male hoglet, who has been named Bean, was discovered in the village of Clocaenog, Denbighshire. He is thought to be just seven or eight weeks old.

Straight (Gay) to the Point— Emmet x Male Reader

⚪️ — Emmet and Ingo have grown up with a lot to be self conscious about, from their appearances to the behavioral quirks they share and the quirks they don’t. Kids can be cruel when you’re neurodivergent so different. So when you get together with Emmet and he comes to realize you LIKE his speaking patterns, he’s floored.

⚪️ — Emmet has always had a lot to say, but he’s quite bad at phrasing things. Compared to his brother who is a constant stream of consciousness, just prattling on about anything and everything that crosses his mind once you get him into conversation, Emmet needs to carefully plan out each word and it never comes out how he wants. Sometimes it feels like with his more approachable appearance (even if some call it creepy) and Ingo’s ability to talk (even if some say he rambles too much), they’re just two halves of one fully functional person. But you like him. Not his brother. Not him and his brother. You like him. How crazy is that?

⚪️ — He doesn’t have time to waste on careful wording. Do that, and he’d be plotting his course of conversation for ages. And he’s rather aware of that fact, so one day, he offhandedly mentions that he’s sorry his bluntness can be so off-putting, and he really hopes he hasn’t said anything to offend you.

⚪️ — Imagine his surprise when you said the contrary! When he heard you liked him because he said exactly what he meant, and he was always so clear-cut and easy to understand, it was like a fuse blew in him. Growing up, he’d always heard the opposite, and while Ingo never criticized him for it, plenty of other people did call him out for being rude when he didn’t mean to be.

⚪️ — He feels verrrry comfortable in conversation with you, yes indeed. Your sense of communication with one another is very strong and any conflict gets resolved very quickly. Emmet is happy to just talk with you and not have to pretend to have conversational skills he doesn’t have. You like him, his brother likes him, that’s all that matters.

⚪️ — He wants to talk with challengers on the Battle Subway more freely, so he’ll often come to you about the best ways to translate the things he wants to say into more “socially acceptable” ways of saying them. Of course, he’s also fully aware that he can come to you and not need to jump through all those hoops.

⚪️ — Since he’s so comfortable with you, he’ll say just about anything to you or around you and knows he can say things to you that will make you laugh, while others would just shush him for it.

⚪️ — After all, nothing makes you laugh quite as hard as sitting on your bed only to hear “OH DEAR! THE GALVANTULAS ARE MATING ON THE SOFA!” from across the apartment. Like cool Emmet, you definitely did NOT need to hear that—also please make them stop??—but that got the best laugh out of you you’ve had in a while.

⚪️ — He’s genuinely just so funny without trying. Another iconic moment you can recall is when, on a Friday night, a particularly inebriated woman was getting a bit too comfy with Emmet, which he was oblivious to at first, too preoccupied with the joy of battling. When you did tell him, though, you ended up laughing your ass off as he gasped and ran off with great urgency to apologize to the woman, as he was unable to reciprocate her advances due to both being taken and, I quote, “a homosexual”.

⚪️ — You’ve definitely made him a lot more comfortable, even in public situations, which he doesn’t seem to realize. The Battle Subway staff has regularly mentioned Boss Emmet has been way chattier than he used to be (which still doesn’t mean anything dramatic, but it’s a big step to him and that’s all it needs to be!) And anyone who has a problem with Emmet’s mannerisms can answer to you.

⚪️ — You’re more than just Emmet’s boyfriend, you gel perfectly into his family. And granted, that family is only Ingo, both of their Pokemon teams and Elesa ever since she basically adopted them, but it’s perfect anyway. It’s not like Emmet has been telling his brother about how much he wants to marry you eventually or anything.

⚪️ — You have literally so many Joltik grandchildren already.

⚪️ — Since both of you can struggle with reading other people, you often put your heads together to try and figure things out. (If it’s anything like the attempts at two neurodivergent people trying to use their combined knowledge to socially navigate that I’ve been a part of, it probably accomplishes nothing, but at least you can both relate to each other’s struggles and have a good laugh about it at the end of the day.)

⚪️ — He acts like a little kid with a crush around you and when he’s not working, he follows you around like a lost puppy.

⚪️ — He also knows that when he’s specifically feeling insecure about his mannerisms, he can lean on you for comfort, because you unashamedly love that about him. All of it. One night, after a particularly rough day, you remember him cuddling up to you and getting teary-eyed about how much you love him.

⚪️ — Please stay in his life, okay?

Modern technology/works/understanding/etc. I'd like to give "Endeavour" characters...

Morse: noise-cancelling headphones, an mp3 player with a huge amount of opera on it, non-alcoholic real ales (St Peter's Without, the alcohol-free Doom Bar, etc.), a subscription to medici.tv, awareness of Joyce DiDonato's voice. Shadi Bartsch's translation of The Aeneid. Awareness of ADHD and autism as Relevant To Him and some suitable online community. Also some therapy but that goes without saying...

Fred Thursday: Fred. <3 awareness of PTSD and C-PTSD as A Thing and both being relevant in his case (from the war & work and his childhood respectively) even more therapy than Morse needs. All those youtube channels with 24/7 livestreams of various wildlife. The complete works of Terry Pratchett. I'm almost tempted to say fandom spaces because the gentler of them might actually appeal to him a lot.

Max Debryn: more recent medical knowledge. Modern queer community including the more awesome online bits. The work of recently rediscovered composers such as Barbara Strozzi and Joseph Bologne. Possibly Carol Ann Duffy's poetry. Elly Griffiths' "Ruth Galloway" novels if he fancies a busman's holiday read. ;-) Other than that I think he has more to teach us than the other way around. :-)

Peter Jakes: see Fred re: PTSD and C-PTSD awareness and a huge amount of therapy. I'm tempted to add at least the option of more recent help with giving up smoking given a lot more is understood these days. A Netflix subscription and an excellent gaming system. Instant messenger things so he can keep in touch with Oxford friends while in the US.

Joan Thursday: an environment in which it's more usual for women to not give up their jobs on marriage (or not get married at all). A lot of more recent folk rock, singer-songwriter, pop, and indie music might hit the spot for her to add to what she already loves. Yet more therapy. An awesome community of intersectional feminists. The complete works of bell hooks.

Win Thursday: oh Win. Therapy, the Open University. Really good couples therapy with Fred because they clearly love each other so much but *boy* do they fuck up towards each other (mostly him, but not only him). Instant messenger for better keeping in touch with everyone. An air fryer.

Sam Thursday: more therapy, and addiction help. Anger management help. Oh bless him. <3

Reginald Bright: grief counselling, instant messenger, Abir Mukherjee's detective novels, online ordering of Indian groceries, places online to put his art and get it fully admired, and then instant messenger once he moves back to India.

Jim Strange: honestly? he's the only one who seems to weirdly thrive in the time he lives. But I *would* like to throw intersectional feminist, LGBT+ and anti-racism literature at him to help avoid his less admirable moments. And actually some online community (fandom even?) so he has more people to bond with that aren't at the Lodge or at work...

4chan strikes when you least suspect it

So have you seen this video?

I knew about Goodbye Volcano high when people reacted to the trailer but I forgot about it after that.

Next thing I know I see this video and learn about Snoot game. This is probably a very rare example of a fan fix and there's a lot to learn from it. For starters, Goodbye Volcano High simultaneously bit off more than it can chew while having no ambition. In a David Cage like manner it opted to turn what is essentially a short film or a novel into a video game experience via a lot of game elements that are accepted but never fun (the only time someone found QTE events fun was when the animation it correlated with was batshit crazy but maybe they felt like their little dinosaur game was more important than it needed to be.

Not to put too fine a point on it but a LGBT project that was supposedly being partially funded by the Canadian government would explain why it was a feature at a triple A trailer reel despite being a Renpy visual novel. A lot of good PR would have been obtained had the game been a huge success, good for the LGBT community and Sony and Canada pats themselves on the back for supporting a minority group.

Everyone wins. IF THE GAME IS GOOD. Everybody would have won if the game was good. But the game wasn't good. You could say when a notable member of the staff was kicked off the project and it had to be re-written was the point where the game's success was lost. You could say that 4chan sabotaging the game by creating a parody that ended up stealing the thunder of the original game was when the game's success was lost.

But the reality is that, similar to the phrase "every battle is won before it is fought." by Sun Tzu, The reality is that systematically Goodbye Volcano High was never prepared for success. Despite all the shortcomings the trailer is still completely in line with the game. Goodbye Volcano High was no Doki Doki Literature Club. There was no secret meta defying layer to the story. It wasn't Slay the Princess where it simply opted to work within the limitations of being a story driven game and focus on an extreme amount of player guided writing.

It was always going to be about Fang and her friends discovering themselves while also facing obliteration from the meteor. It was linear and simple from the very beginning.

And that is the point where the game failed and let its community down. It put too much hope on making the game almost a cinematic experience and it almost feels like this game wanted to function more like Life is Strange but the team working on the game don't know how to handle a robust game engine and it shows as the programming mistakes made in Goodbye Volcano High are quite damning when you know how straight forward the Renpy game engine is.

So the question is, how could Goodbye Volcano High been saved?

Well the first step would be to dial back everything it showed off in the trailer. No animation beyond a GIF, no QTEs, and instead add branching paths with endings and choices that matter. That's all Snoot game did to be successful. Well, they had one more trick.

4chan utilized it's own identity to craft a narrative to work with. The main character in Snoot game is 4chan personified and the story of Snoot Game in a very meta way is about how 4chan observed Fang and by extension the basic premise and the world of Volcano High. At first it was the general loathing that you come to expect but based on your choices you can actually develop quite a fondness for the characters and the setting.

You fall in love. Quite romantic for a website that's under constant surveillance from the FBI for, well you know the reasons.

Maybe instead of the meteor being ignored until it lands it's the driving narrative. Sure, Fang still has identity and self confidence issues but on top of that she has to deal with also the thought of dying, but what if, she found a way to stop it, or at the very least survive it?

If the Dinosaurs are basically a modern society but dinos then they would have seen the Meteor months ago. The player playing as Fang could be tasked with finding some way to survive the meteor. She could befriend the 1% who are going to hide in their bunker. Doing this she would possibly have to suck up to nasty individuals and betray good friends.

Maybe you could spend the play through making enough money to buy a car and the money you have decides how many of your friends you can rescue (you can even have it to where some of your friends don't want to leave and you have to save them against their own will).

Lets get really crazy, lets say there was a Laser gun being developed to zap the meteor but it was abandoned when the government realized that it would still do a huge amount across pangea as opposed to having most of the damage in just one place but if you zap the meteor you can save your town specifically from being obliterated.

The story then becomes you breaking into the facility and dealing with the fact that while your town will consider what you did a moral good, you'll go to jail, possibly for the rest of your life and everyone affected by the fragments of the meteor will want you dead.

Lets get even crazier and say that the meteor can be destroyed completely with magic but in order to use this magic you'll have to specifically sacrifice people who are close to you. Maybe that means killing your best friends or it means becoming good friends with bad people just so you can kill them instead.

Every choice would have life changing consequences and shape the kind of character who Fang is and it would make the player very involved in the story and in Fang's development. With all those paths there's still sit around and wait death. Why not?

Renpy is a story telling tool but it functions best as a choose your own adventure novel and that's what Goodbye Volcano High should have been.

Before we wrap things up we need to talk about zoomers underestimating the wily nature of 4chan.

Keyan Carlie who is a very good content creator made his video about the forgotten failed Gravity Falls theories and during the video he didn't understand why 4chan would latch onto Gravity Falls given the nature of the show and ya know. 4chan is a den of evil white supremacy.

Yes. 4chan is crazy, dangerous even. The people on that website have gone on to ruin more than a few lives (most white) for very little other than because it amused them but 4chan is also where a lot of popular culture mutates and turns into a meme.

As a result, this concoction of crazy anonymous people who have nothing but time will find the time to obsess over anything, that includes a children show. If 4chan can obsess over Deltarune and Undertale it's not going to find any reason to hands off on Gravity Falls.

Ahh, I should lay off the lad, Carlie is just a boy in his echo chamber. Not everyone grew up knowing that 4chan could strike at any moment, from any place, and for any reason.

Goodbye Volcano High devs had to learn that lesson the hard way. Are you next?

I think that actors being super involved in the fandoms for franchises they’re in is truly the ULTIMATE marketing tactic that I don’t think the actual creators really take notice of.

As someone who reeallly only gets deep into franchises based on the fandom, these actors are like the fucking backbone of them. Not even exaggerating on that. They unintentionally bring more content for fans to thrive on and keep them involved with the community a lot longer than usual which is absolutely fantastic for people like me who are tired of fandoms dying so quickly because of how short our attention spans have become (thank you tikTok and thank you Streaming services for releasing content all at once instead of one episode per week, totally didn’t completely backfire on your longevity)

For example, let me talk about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022) Ghost, Soap, König and Horangi:

Initially, Ghost had started appearing on tik tok when the game released sometime around October or November, and because this character was sexy as fuck, he brought in a HUGE AMOUNT of fans from an entirely different demographic (more women, more lgbt people, more mask kink people too lmao) which is so vastly different from its stereotypical community (being males who are often insufferable, sexist, homophobic and transphobic)

But the interesting thing is, once Neil Ellice (Soap’s actor) started showing up and involving himself within TikTok after That One Interview, his character’s popularity BOOMED, while Ghost kind of just remained the same level, despite both Neil and Samuel being present in that interview. I think this is because Ghost’s actor (Samuel Roukin) never really took too much interest in social media’s or the newer cod fandom, and his reactions and responses to questions in the interview never seemed (to me at least) that he cared too much or that he didn’t want to be there. (I don’t think it was intentional though, but it’s hard to know for sure)

After a week or so of the game release, König started to win the hearts of the new cod fans as soon as players started to unlock him in DMZ/multiplayer; people were obsessing over him, despite not being a story mode character (all we had was his character backstory written in his bio)…. And then his Voice actor (Jim Boeven) suddenly made an instagram story reply to someone and either unintentionally or intentionally made a remark in regards to König that came off as homophobic. This actually kind of killed the König fans temporarily; it felt awkward and uncomfortable to express liking König for a while because a lot of the homophobic fans or even just other regular fans would reply to fan art and comments and edits saying “but he’s straight/but his VA is homophobic and calls himself an alpha male unironically” etc. it was also interesting to see how the lgbt fans would actually start rejecting Jim and fully separating him from König in attempt to “reclaim” him and say “Jim isn’t technically his creator/writer, therefore the things he says in regards to König is irrelevant and not canon”, but when Neil would say something about Soap, those same fans would treat it as canon despite it being just as true as the heterosexual König remark Jim made.

I wrote an extra paragraph for Horangi but I accidentally deleted it all ugh I didn’t know adding a link would replace the entire paragraph with the preview and disappear let me do a tldr I don’t know much about Horangi because his character popularity increase is extremely recent OR because I kinda fell out of the fandom briefly until a week ago but essentially I think that Nick Martineau (horangi VA) interacting with the fandom on Neil levels is definitely reviving some cod fans and making player’s interest in COD last just a bit longer.

Anyway the tweet I was gonna link was him talking about joining AO3, the fanfic writers were FREAKING OUT and scared him out of it

I think this really shows how much effect these voice actors & actors have over these characters outside of professional work. Fandoms are a slippery slope so of course, if an actor puts a negative input on ‘their’ character, it’s going to have a negative response or effect from some of the fandom, and vice versa. It needs to be treated with respect and open mindedness.

I guess also the beauty of not having actors involved is that you can avoid this issue all together. You can’t really stop actors from “tainting” characters outside of official media because their words outside of it doesn’t make it official or canon at all

But anyways, Old fashion interviews can be nice too. but it’s different. Interviews can easily seem too professional and insincere, that the actor doesn’t actually have to have any passion for the franchise/character, can only be there for the money or because they have to be there, etc even if that’s not always the case… so it’s truly on another level when an actor has a lot of passion and love for their community and interacts with fans outside of interviews. The casual-ness, it feels more personal, and there’s a lack of need for censoring for company image or whatever and those factors name it so easy to become more attached to the character AND the actor themself.

It feels so special when the art, memes, projects, edits, and even fanfics you make can have an unprompted response from an actor involved. i think it’s normal when you see their reactions and it put you on a small high + silly bragging rights even if they comment on a lot of things.

Even if the actor is not like their character (let’s be real, actors are very rarely anything like the characters they play) it still sort of feels like that character is still alive in them, even if the character has died and the show has ended… it fills me with so much happiness especially when these actors react like their characters or answer questions on behalf of the character, or give their opinions on silly discourse, headcanon’s, theories and ships. The fandoms FEAST on this shit for a good while and it becomes the talk of the week!

Oh boy and let me tell you more instances where actors have completely amplified my emotional attachment to franchises!!! (Warning: irrelevant rambles you don’t need to read)

I was hyperfixating HARD on rdr2 a few years ago and obviously it’s just so easy to fall in love with the world and the characters in that amazing game on its own, but when I discovered Roger Clark (Arthur Morgan), Robert Wiethoff (John Marston) and Peter Blomquist’s (Micah Bell) instagram accounts, I had so much fun seeing their involvement in the fandom (despite it being little in comparison to mw2), seeing how Peter would make his instagram captions allude to not being human and kind of just acting as a Micah parody, seeing Peter make (hilarious) dad jokes (that I steal to this day) and build a fucking chicken coop on live it just makes it SOO SPECIAL!

One moment that was super special to me was when Roger Clark voiced a western audiobook and gave out some copies for free on twitter and I was a winner. I was able to have a chat with him, and after a while I made some doodles of the book characters and he saw them and ended up following me back 🥹🥹🥹 (STILL SAD THOUGH BECAUSE I NO LONGER HAVE ACCESS TO THE ACCOUNT)

Oh oh oh and TF2, those voice actors are quite literally carrying TF2 more than the actual fucking devs GENUINELY! It’s actually kind of upsetting how these actors really openly want to do more official things with the game but valve is sadly dead as fuck these days… Medic’s voice actor especially (who I think streams occasionally? I’ve never made it to one before) makes the fandom much more livelier and so fun, doing lines in medic’s voice and the fans creating funny sfm’s and comics from them!

Actually, one of the hugest impacts an actor has made on me definitely has to be Bill Moseley. I’m sure most of you probably have no fucking clue who this dude is so let me tell you all about him

I first discovered Bill Moseley in the movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (still my #1 favourite film) and he plays Chop Top, the brother of Leatherface. Sadly that character is only in that film though but oh my god, Bill Moseley did what no other actor could ever do…

I fell into a rabbit hole and discovered that Bill Moseley formed a band called Cornbugs where he essentially roleplays/sings AS CHOP TOP and it also had fucking BUCKETHEAD in it (I believe he’s one of the musicians who has made the most albums (435) in the world) and he is an absolute guitar legend and genuinely amazing music despite his silly iconic look (you guessed it he wears a bucket on his head)

Although it sounds…. Extremely unique, to say the least, I am lucky enough to be one of those people who actually enjoys all kinds of music (yes, even country, before you roll your eyes. Don’t underestimate my tastes) because most of the songs are extremely silly and fun but would probably sound… too interesting to the average person. Most of the appeal to me initially was how in some of the songs it was pretty explicitly about chop top, bubba and Drayton and my hyperfixation thrived for so so so so much longer than it should have purely because of that music career.

It also doesn’t end there though, he has an even Niche’r band that is active currently (unlike Cornbugs bc it got dispanded after buckethead got bored and left I think) called Spider Mountain that has music that genuinely surprised me. These songs are actually so good and underrated even though they are also silly (and definitely would be more appealing to Normal listeners in comparison to Cornbugs) but even though it’s about completely disconnected to chop top, I’ve noticed that the lyrics in a few of these songs seem to be about some family members and himself, like Maple Men which is an extremely silly but catchy song, and they just fill me with so much glee. Like this dude is just a dad having fun in the studio!! Making songs about silly and random topics like Goose Steppin’ Down Broadway, incredible shrinking man, and stupid life of a mom eater LIKE THEYRE JUST SO SILLY AND FUN AND CHARMINGGG these types of passionate actors increase my lifespan and when they go far and wide for the franchises they’re in its so magical.

I have to stop here now but im just about done talking about this anyway, my phone is starting to lag from my hyperfixation rambles. I’ve been writing this for 3 hours.

I’d also love to hear about whatever experiences that any of you have with actors amplifying your experiences, or just general thoughts about this recent trend that’s happening with them!

Today’s Doodle honors Indigenous Argentine human rights activist Amancay Diana Sacayán. On this day in 2012, Sacayán became the first Argentine trans woman to receive a national identity card affirming her gender. The Doodle artwork, illustrated by Buenos Aires-based guest artist Juan Dellacha, depicts Sacayán as a joyful activist whose persistence, in spite of all the violence she suffered throughout her whole life, left a huge legacy. A proud descendant of the Diaguita people, Sacayán was born in Tucumán, Argentina, on December 31, 1975. She and her 15 siblings moved to Buenos Aires, where she would spend most of her life. Sacayán enjoyed school until she was expelled as a result of coming out as transgender. She faced police persecution quickly and was arrested multiple times for her clothing choice and trans identity. Sacayán fought tirelessly for LGBTQ+ rights during her life. She was involved with many activist groups, notably a member of the National Front for the Gender Identity Law and a leader of the International Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Association. She founded the Movimiento Antidiscriminatorio de Liberación (Anti-Discriminatory Liberation Movement), which was dedicated to improving human rights for the queer community, focusing on inclusion within schools, workplaces, and hospitals. Today, because of her activism, trans people can have their name and gender respected when they access health care. 1% of public sector employees in Buenos Aires are in the trans community, thanks to the Trans Labor Quota Law that Sacayán promoted. This law was expanded to the national level in 2020, but tragically, Sacayán was not around to see it. She was killed in a hate crime in 2015, and her murderer is considered the first person in Argentina to be convicted of a hate crime against the trans community. Her resilience and accomplishments continue to inspire. She persuaded the public sector to include trans people, advocated for hospitals to use people's correct names, and set an example by being the first legally recognized trans person in her country. Thank you for dedicating your life to vastly improve trans rights, Amancay Diana Sacayán.

I am thrilled beyond words to see Diana Sacayán in a doodle. Witnessing her wisdom, kindness and activism was an honor and a privilege and she is missed every day. The artist also said something about her legacy that isn't mentioned enough: "Diana believed that the fight for LGBT+ rights also needed to have social, environmental, native and class consciousness too. It couldn’t be one without the other. I deeply agree with that and I think it’s very important to have that in mind, especially in the times we are living in." She truly lives on in the battles won and in the ones yet to win but the way in which she was taken so soon should not be forgotten.

Okay. I'm not sure I am the best person to be talking to this about since I'm not someone who knows a whole lot about Pedro's personal life as I'm just a casual fan, but if I were you? I'd be happy because he is a huge supporter of the community and trans rights. The support alone from an actor that big is huge. And if he is gay? That's really none of our business. It would be his decision when and if he told people at all. Forcing people to out themselves in general is not cool. But I really know nothing about his personal life. I just know pedro is one of the good ones and one of the biggest defenders of human rights in general. So that's a win in my opinion.

Gege is so good when it comes to introducing female characters imo. Yuki, maki, nobara, mai, mei mei, utahime. and ofc, shoko! all baddies who are simply 10s. I love jjk women sm 💗The only problem is that he gives them a moment and then sidelines them without giving us much depth into their character.. shoko and utahime especially have huge potential and I really hope he gives us more insight before he decides to end the manga.

The sexualization too is not so bad (even though it exists). it is WAY better than these other mangakas who treat their female characters like doormats and objects to ogle at and something the fanboys can be creepy about. another plus point is how they are actual GROWN women and not these lolis/shotas or whatever pedophilic stuff mangakas draw for their hyper horny misogynistic incel audience.

Yes, Japan is indeed very creepy when it comes to these things (i have been there and trust me it is the worst). Those men need to be put behind bars and they're extremely weird in areas where women's rights are concerned. i understand why Japanese women dont wanna procreate with them anymore and the declining birth rates. i support it tbh. most of them have 0 respect towards us and only see us as baby making machines. if they want to get women, maybe they should start getting their shit together.

Yes it's probably Gege's marketing strategy to make his work more woman-friendly, something other mangaka failed to achieve (which explains why their works are not as successful bc women will refuse to read smtng they're not comfortable with).

Most women read shojo, bc woman leads are respected and loved. So Gege took this into account + he introduced handsome men who are also strong (Gojo prime example). When you combine all these ideas into one, add meaningful plot composition, deep lessons on life, tragedy, comedy, a lil bit or romance, you get what we call "woman's heaven" lol. As a woman, I prefer shōnen over shojo bc shōnen is not solely based on romance. Instead, you have world building with lil bit of romance here and there to make it sweet. And mby bc shojo men seem feminine to me while shōnen seem more masculine that's also why lol. But yea, I think Gege did a pretty good job. Jjk has a lot to offer to its diverse audience (even to LGBT community with Hakari and Kirara).

We need to understand that shōnen is created with men on mind, it's aimed at male audience. So logically speaking, women won't play a super large role. Despite that, Maki had a lot of shiny moments for a shōnen girl, which made me happy. I also hope that Utahime and Shoko will play some important role as well, especially towards the end bc the end of the manga is nearing.

And yes I hate lolis as well haha. Grown women for the win.

YTTD Sexuality Poll Results

The poll results are in! 67 people voted in the gender poll, and 77 voted in the sexuality poll. The gender poll can be found here. (Also this is just for fun. No one is saying anything is canon.)

Let's start with Sara! The LGBT community is really winning today as not one person thought she was straight. The majority of people think she's bisexual with 38 votes, but the lesbian Sara believers gave it there best shot with 24 votes.

Moving on to Joe! Most people think he's bisexual as he received 46 votes in this category, with the second most popular option being pansexual with 15 votes.

For Kanna, most people think she's a lesbian with 42 votes, with unlabeled being the second most popular choice with 19 votes.

Most people agree that Keiji has bisexual energy with 44 votes, but some people disagreed with straight being the second most popular option at 11 votes.

This one was close but most people think Q-Taro is bisexual with 22 votes, the second most popular option is gay with 20 votes. Also shout out to the "straight but 20 dollars is 20 dollars" person for making me laugh.

People had a ton of thought's on Shin's sexuality with his pie chart being the largest, and yet not a single person thought he was straight. A lot of people think he's on the ace or aro spectrum, but overall gay was the most chosen option with 41 votes. The runner up was bisexual with 11 votes. (On the third column "gay and demisexual was said.)

A huge majority agree that Reko is a lesbian with 71 votes, and no one thought she straight because I mean...come on. The second runner up choice only had two votes which was pansexual.

People had the least amount of thought's about Nao's sexuality with her pie chart being the smallest. 38 people think she's a lesbian, and in second place 26 people think she's pansexual. Which I'm sure has nothing to do with her whacking Shin over the head with a pan. /J

65 people think Gin hasn't really thought about dating yet, but the one's who do think he wouldn't date anyways as aro was the second winning sexuality with 5 votes. Also the person who made the AAA joke is hilarious.

The majority of people think Mishima is gay with 25 votes, and the second majority of people think he's unlabeled with 12 votes. Someone also said that they think he's technically pan but calls himself bi because he likes the flag more.

Most people thought Alice was gay with 32 votes, and the second most popular choice was pansexual with 20 votes. But my favorite was "Homoromantic (gay ace)" because I misread gay ace as gay ass and got a big laugh from it.

Most people think Kai is gay with 20 votes, and unlabeled got the second most votes with it being chosen 13 times. Aroace is also a fairly popular headcanon for him!

Now time for the awards!

The character with the most straight energy is Q-Taro with 14 votes.

The character with the most bisexual energy is Joe with 46 votes.

Most people who know me are aware that I work in electoral politics and have for years. While a lot of the work I spend the year doing involves direct community outreach working on projects like voting rights restoration for felons, each fall I spend 12-13 weeks canvassing for the general election (I live in Virginia, so there are no off years)

This year I knocked on about 6,000 doors, talked to hundreds of voters, and contributed to a small impact in voter turnout. I did this with the expectation that Election Day would go poorly for the Democratic Party. Engaging with voters honestly to get people energized to care about a low energy party that consistently fails to rise to even the most basic of tasks is grueling work, especially when you expect it to not amount to much. Last year, Election Day brought the end to a campaign against Glenn Youngkin, which we lost. That is the expectation going into basically every election when you work for Democrats. From what we could tell in the lead up over the past few weeks, this was our anticipation headed into yesterday and into the evening hours.

Thank god we were wrong. Democrats over-preformed expectations just about everywhere, and there were some major wins that shouldn’t go unnoticed. Aside from the obvious with Fetterman in Pennsylvania, Tony Evers holding in Wisconsin, or Warnock coming out ahead (though facing a likely runoff).. I wanted to highlight some of those achievements most people will probably overlook.

Starting in my home county, where about half of my canvassing efforts were focused.

In the Arlington Country School Board election, Bethany Sutton was running against James Rives.. an anti-trans candidate who has given testimony to the board sharing inaccurate medical information and representing fringe psychiatric research as mainstream opinion. He had said he would stand by Youngkin’s efforts to discriminate against and dehumanize trans students, something the board has taken a strong stand against and refuses to comply with. Bethany ran in strong opposition to this, and her campaign had a large focus on protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ students in our county. She kicked his ass, winning by a margin north of 40 points and 30,000 votes!

Moving to Indiana in another school board election, Matthew Keefer (who advocated for the forced outing of trans students and has made pro-Nazi comments) was defeated by pro-LGBT candidate Christy Wessel-Powell

Two other Indiana School Board candidates who advocated for the banning of “pro-LGBT” books also lost their elections

I won’t mention them all, but there were also some huge wins in North Carolina where anti-LGBT candidates took losses in multiple school board elections

Falcon Heights, Minnesota sends Leigh Finke to the state legislature in a decisive 62 point victory. She becomes the first openly trans legislator in the states history!

Alice Kozlowsky also earned a decisive 40 point victory to become the first openly non-binary representative elected to the state legislature

In Montana, Zooey Zephyr earned a decisive 64 point victory to become the states first trans woman to serve in the state legislature!

and lastly, while this remains too close to call.. it seems CO-3 will be ousting Lauren Boebert 🫡

While the GOP will likely win the house, I am pleasantly surprised to be going to sleep on Election Day with an optimistic feeling. While there’s still a lot of work to be done, and things are still not looking great in general.. this was far from the outcome we expected coming into today. We can’t afford to give up this fight, and tonight showed the will to show up exists out there.

Our odds aren’t great, but we can still win. If they want us to stop fighting, they’ll have to kill us.
