The 4th House Experience Pt. 1:

(The Ugly Duckling)

Case Study: Lilo Pelekai

Out of all the water houses (4th, 8th and 12th), the 4th house is given the least amount of attention in online astrology circles, ironic considering that is the only one of the three houses to also serve as an angular house. It doesn’t share the dark, esoteric reputation that makes the 8th and 12th houses such popular houses, but just because it deals with relatively “lighter” topics such as family, the home, ancestry, roots and history doesn’t mean that it isn’t deep. As a matter of fact, one could argue that it is the deepest of the water houses seeing that it is the only one below the horizon. When I first delved into astrology, admittedly the 4th house was not one that garnered much of my attention and for a while I actually considered it one of the more boring of the astrology houses but upon further growth, study and reflection the depths of it became very apparent.

And they were presented perhaps no better than the little girl whose character won me over more than any Disney princess both as a kid and now. 

The movie lilo and stitch ironically starts with Lilo swimming in the depths of the ocean. She rushes from the beach to make it to her hula dancing lesson. Upon getting there she is immediately singled out for being late, being wet and the seemingly strange explanation of why she had to feed the fish Pudge a peanut butter sandwich as he has control of the weather. Her instructor nor the other girls in the class understand the reasoning behind why her routine with Pudge the fish is so important and ostracize her, with the defacto leader of the small girls’ group Myrtle going as far as to call her “crazy.”

And immediately getting her ass beat because of it.

Unfortunately Lilo is ostracized by her peers, robbed of a sense of belonging from a very young age. Aside from her sister, her sole sense of belonging comes from her doll “Scrump” whose appearance scares the other girls and further causes her to feel like a misfit. 

Later in the story we get the explanations to her seemingly strange behavior, we see that her Tuesday routine with Pudge and the importance of him controlling the weather comes because her parents died while driving in the rain. Her being nostalgic and an old soul sets her apart, her favorite artist being Elvis Presley. She latches onto “Scrump” because she is lonely and has no friends. She makes a wish on what she thinks is a shooting star and prays for a friend (wishes being an 11th house theme) and she is sent Stitch, an alien posing as a pet dog, fitting considering pets are a 6th house theme and the 4th house being 6 spaces from the 11th house. Although he too is different, something that uneases her older sister Nani almost immediately, and does not seem like a normal dog, Lilo embraces him from the very beginning, again speaking to Lilo’s nature to offer other misfits a sense of belonging like she herself doesn’t have.

The two misfits go on a series of adventures around the island, but even in that we can still see Lilo’s desperation to belong as she apologizes and still attempts to befriend the girls who have bullied her and treated both herself and Stitch as pariahs. 

Later in their adventures we see them eating at Nani’s job. The 4th house is representative of the sign of Cancer, opposite of the 10th house which is representative of the sign of Capricorn. Nani displays many themes of the 10th house, tirelessly bouncing from job to job to provide for Lilo and although she initially wanted to fulfill Lilo’s wish and give her a companion, Stitch threatens her job search and the already flimsy structure of their house so much that she can’t afford the sympathy in gifting him a sense of belonging like Lilo can. She is just about to throw Stitch out of the house when Lilo brings up a quote from her deceased parents, Ohana. 

“Ohana means family…”

Despite being a young girl, Lilo is very attached to the memory of her parents, keeping a picture of them underneath her pillow. She also keeps a physical book copy of the “The Ugly Duckling”. In it she explains the story of a baby duckling that is sad because “he’s been left behind by his family and nobody wants him. But they hear him crying and they find him and now he is happy because he knows where he belongs.”

The night when Stitch threatens to run away, he takes her copy of the Ugly Duckling with him. Lilo tries her best to convince him to stay, fearing losing the only friend other than Nani that she has ever had. When he still leaves, though disappointed she says that she will still never forget him as she “never forget anyone who leaves” before looking at the family picture with her parents again and tucking it back underneath her pillow. 

The next morning Stitch comes back, trying to escape capture. Naturally she misses her friend and helps him to evade from Jumba and Pleakly trying to arrest him, even going so far as to sacrifice her doll “Scrump” to blow up in the latter’s face. Things unfortunately go too far when their literal house ends up being blown up. When Stitch finally reveals himself to be an alien, she feels betrayed, as if Stitch took advantage of her need for belonging with his need to escape (the 4th house and 9th house themes again being at odds as the 9th house is 8 spaces from the 4th house, the 8th house signifying deception and destruction). When she is taken instead of Stitch she feels defeated, fearing losing her older sister and her home of Hawaii, she officially belongs to nothing.

Someone that gave her a sense of belonging has left her behind once again.

Finally at the end, upon being rescued and securing Stitch as her pet and best friend for good, Lilo has finally found her sense of belonging. Despite being robbed of a life with her parents, her natural family, she is able to find a family, a tribe, one made up of her older sister along with fellow misfits and aliens just like her.

No one got left behind and no one got forgotten.

As a 4th Houser, depending on the conditions of the house, your sense of belonging has likely fluctuated throughout your life. No one knows to highs a sense of belonging brings and the low a sense of not belonging brings like you. 

You may some severe abandonment issues and may have fought to be included, to feel you belong in circles where others were seemingly accepted easily. And if you have it, you fought hard not to loose it.

But in the end, you stop fighting to belong and another alien, or group of aliens, find you.

So even if people have left you in some circles, even if people have pushed you out of others, here's to finding and holding tight to your own “Ohana”.

And keeping onto those memories along the way!

Most Affectionate?

Pidge. It is absolutely Pidge. During downtime, Pidge is all over Keith like a cheap suit! They may as well just have one chair between them because she is on his lap more often than in her own seat. Unless they're eating at a dinner table, when she scooches her chair up to his just close enough that their elbows don't bang together. Other than that, his lap is fair game. Reading? Don't care, you can see your datapad over my shoulder. Just finished working out and sitting cross-legged? Now you have your girlfriend sitting wrapped around you koala style while she works on her datapad behind your back. Arguing with someone (probably Lance, maybe Shiro) while standing with your back to the door? Now your tiny limpet girlfriend is attached to your waist from behind because she ran out of peanut butter cookies. This does eventually start to rub off on Keith though, once he realises just how much he likes it (that didn't take him long) and that he can reciprocate (that took a bit longer). Tiny girlfriend sitting cross-legged somewhere working on her laptop? now she has a full sized boyfriend pillow behind her with his arms around her waist and a neck right there for kissing, unless it's something important. Having a bad day? Now you're in a cocoon of blankets with your super tall bf curled around you like the best coat in the world.

And this doesn't just go for casual either. In garrison meetings, Pidge's chair is surreptitiously always closer to Keith's than when the room was set up. And she convinces him that as long as no one sees then it's entirely professional to hold hands under the table! Then she manages to convince him that she can write on his palm with her finger and send him messages which he spells out in his datapad as though he's taking notes. Sometimes she tries to make him blush or laugh. Other than that, they are just always together. Pidge likes to lean on him, no matter the situation. If they're walking, they're either holding hands or just linking little fingers if they're still on duty, and Allura thinks it's the cutest thing she's ever seen.

Then there's the non-physical affection. Both of them are guilty of buying the other the stupidest little knickknacks whenever they see them. It's the whole "saw this and thought of you". And it is so ridiculous. No one else gets it, but between the two of them they have a huge collection of useless clutter. From snowglobes to dancing hula girls, clam shells with googly eyes to raunchy pens, as long as it makes the other laugh, and it always does, it's fair game!

Big Spoon or Little Spoon?

It depends on the situation. Generally, Keith likes to hold on to his Pidge. It means she's safe and right there with him. Pidge normally starts out the night with her head rested on his chest, but she tends to move around a lot, certainly more than Keith thought was possible. Within minutes of her moving away from his, he can feel the difference and wakes just enough to roll over and pull her in against chest again, her heart beating through her back into him like the most comforting thing in the world.

However, if Keith comes to bed late and doesn't want to disturb her he will try and go to sleep without touching. It never lasts long. One or the other of them seeks the other out. As for Pidge as the big spoon, sometimes Keith still has nightmares. Losing his family, losing his found family, losing her...when this happens when he's curled up on himself trying to even his breathing with his back to her, this is when she shines as the big spoon. Wordlessly, she shimmies her way to him, wrapping her arm around him and stroking his chest rhythmically, easing his mind and body with presence. They never talk about it, unless he instigates it, but he's okay with that and so is she. He knows she's ready to listen to him any time of day or night, but most of all she's ready to hold him until he feels brave enough to tell her he's okay.

Todays was “famous food from the walking dead.” Lots of funny things like Dwight’s club sandwich, Carol’s cookies, Jerry’s cobbler, Negan’s spaghetti, etc. Also featured are Daryl’s snake jerky, with Beth yet again featured saying the line (“Enjoy you snake jerky…”) and also featured was White Trash Brunch from Alone. So much Beth love.

It’s so devastating. Hearts Still Beating is such a major moment of descent for Daryl. How they corrupt the peanut butter, a Beth symbol, to show how he doesn’t enjoy it. He’s just like shoving it in his mouth for survival. He then kills that guy in cold blood. Peanut butter is also a Morgan thing. Why is he so connected to Beth??

Morgan is definitely connected to Beth. I've always thought he found her when she was left in the car after Grady. But that's a very long ramble that's been rambled many times, haha.

That would definitely be cool. I also feel it means he could see her first, recognize her. Morgan is often seen around arrows and traffic signs. I know I’m a broken record but I see him as a navigator. Like someone to follow closely. He knows the way. I read some of the old theories about how he had gurneys at his hideout.

That maybe he knew about Grady or had heard something about it. Like maybe he and Dwayne were trying to get there. Maybe he was near Atlanta when he found her. Afterward he ended up at Terminus, followed the carvings to the church. I can’t remember if there’s any indication as to where Eastman lives. The woods between Macon and Atlanta seem endless.

It’s always been interesting to me that he encounters Daryl first when he gets to Virginia.

Oh and per Morgan’s arrows, twice they are specifically yellow. There are arrows with yellow fletching in Clear and a big yellow arrow in Eastman’s house. He’s also seen in front of yellow traffic arrows in Good Out Here, the episode of Fear where Nick Clark dies. It’s maybe a yellow brick road reference. But I think it also is meant to conjure out memories of Beth, who wore yellow. Daryl is also seen with the arrows with yellow fletching. They’re at his house in Alexandria near his work bench.

It's funny that you see Morgan as a Navigator. I have always thought of him as a prophet which is very similar if you think about it. I just have always felt that there's too many hints around Morgan that relate to Beth that there has to be some type of connection.

I was just thinking the other night with the announcement that this is the last season of Fear and how this is also the first season that they filmed in Savannah, Georgia and how we saw that posting of Beth excuse me Emily taken in Savannah. She said she was in Savannah at a wedding. In the picture she was wearing the same top that she wore on TTD the first time of the two times that she was a guest for s11. We know how she loves to tell us exactly where she is. Unless she doesn't want us to know where she is. I guess all these little things laid up to I really am looking forward to Fear and what it might reveal.

I also love Morgan as a prophet. With all his breaking the fourth wall instances, he’s like a prophet to tptb. Through a Biblical lens I see him as the prophet Jonah, the original Christ archetype who tried to avoid his responsibilities and ended up being caught in a storm and swallowed by a whale.

Also I agree with you both about Fear. I almost feel it would be too good to be true if she showed up there.

But like I can’t forget how she was in Savannah. And she was wearing that sweater. I remember too it was weird because she posted herself in Savannah, then like a week later she posted herself in a cute dress for her hallmark movie promo tour.

She mentioned specifically she got the dress in Savannah where she had been for a wedding. It just felt weird like that maybe someone had said something, like be careful ppl will pick up on the fact you were in Savannah. And so she felt the need to say why she was there. She never said why she was in Montreal for example. She posts herself in a lot of locations with no explanation. So why Savannah?

I have had the exact same thoughts about Emily mentioning Savannah. It just seem so purposeful of a explanation of why she was where she was when normally she might state where she is without an explanation as you mentioned about her being in Montreal. It almost felt like it was over thought about. How people might realize that she was in Savannah at the same time as Fear was filming and think it was a bit of a coincidence.

It's like someone loudly saying "don't look, don't look" which only makes you look more closely. The other coincidence was in the picture she is wearing the TTD sweater. I don't remember anyone mentioning that she had worn it in many pictures from other locations. Just a lot of litte odd things that makes a person wonder.

I learned (and still know) how to play piano, marimba, and various percussion instruments (ex. snare drum, drumset, etc)

The Hula Teacher (I think his name is Moses, or something similar?) doesn’t have a very big role in the film, but I love him in this little interaction with Lilo. Especially in the moment right before this, where Lilo is getting very worked up over the whole situation with needing to get peanut butter for Pudge the fish, and her teacher just very gently puts a hand on her back and calmly asks her why this is so important to her. There’s no judgement, just genuinely wondering because if he knows why it’s important, maybe he can help her.

And then you have this moment where Lilo explains that “Pudge controls the weather”, and her teacher getting this look that almost seemed shocked. And it gets worse later when you learn the reason why Lilo has only referred to her sister and apparently needed to go to the store, the beach, and class alone; and what connection that has to her feeling like she needs to feed this fish that she genuinely seems to believe controls the weather.

Character Intro: Calypso (Kingdom of Ichor)

Age- 23 (immortal)

Location- Ogygia, Olympius

Personality- In many ways, she's child-like and naive. She has a warm heart & is very caring. She's a chronic hopeless romantic- loving the attention she gets from romantic suitors. She's never not in a relationship.

As a third generation Titaness & being part oceanic nymph, she has the standard abilities of a goddess, except shapeshifting. Her powers/abilities include immortality bestowal (one of the few deities with this ability), limited aerokinesis, vitakinesis, & mystiokinesis. She can also breathe underwater, but does not have a tail.

Calypso's father is Atlas (Titan god of strength & endurance) and her mother is an oceanic nymph named Coralie. They were never married. Calypso comes from a rich Titan heritage. Her paternal grandparents are Iapetus (Titan god of pain, mortality, & death) and Clymene (Titaness of fame & renown). Her uncles are Menoetius (Titan god of rage, violence, & rash actions), Prometheus (Titan god of forethought), & Epimetheus (Titan god of afterthought). She's aware of her cousins, but she doesn't really know them.

She lives in a beautiful beach house in the state of Ogygia that she shares with her mother. They also own three sailboats. The inside gives off a cool coastal vibe- with colors of crisp whites, deep blues, and neutral hues. Furniture pieces like sea glass countertops, a woven wicker coffee table, hanging rattan chairs, linen curtains, woven light fixtures, natural fiber rugs, and cotton loveseats. A lot of pottery, various candles, & sea glass figurines serve as decorations.

Calypso has a close relationship with her mother. They are each other's support system & best friend. They are also business partners. They have a beachwear and apparel line called Palms' Paradise including a store in Ogygia & new store locations in Delos, Naxos, and Mykonos. As well as having an official website, there are plans for a store in the Mall of Olympius.

She won't admit this to others, but she misses being "daddy's girl." Calypso was there for her father after he was pardoned from his punishment. She stayed with him in Corinth for a year- tucking him in bed & getting up to check on him everytime he awoke, screaming from a nightmare. She was the one who persuaded him to finally go outside, with the both of them surfing. Their current relationship is strained after a discussion they had where Atlas called her pathetic for her situation with Odysseus.

Her go-to drink is a passionfruit smoothie. She also likes pineapple mojitos, coconut water, lemon-lime soda, mai tais, lychee juice, & the hula dancer (a drink made with pineapple vodka, vanilla rum, and lychee puree). A usual from The Roasted Bean is a large coconut cream cold brew.

A favorite thing of hers to eat for breakfast is a buttered & honeyed plain bagel & scrambled eggs (added with shrimp and topped with sharp cheddar cheese). She also likes a vanilla coconut smoothie bowl (topped with milk chocolate chips, pineapple slices, banana slices, & oat granola).

Calypso hasn't been in contact with her half sisters (The Hyades) since the death of their little brother Hyas. Things were different before his passing- they would all go out shopping, have a spa day, or check out a pottery class. She & Hyas would go surfing and spend the day at the water park. She even had a good relationship with their mother, Aethra. Now, her relationship with her half sisters is relegated to a like on a post or a message on Fatestagram here & there.

She loves living in Ogygia- the warm air, the glittering white sand, the swaying palm trees, & the gorgeous turquoise waters. Calypso doesn't mind traveling, to hang out with her friends and more importantly- her boyfriend.

She has a MASSIVE collection of romance novels- whether it's steamy & sexy erotica, cute & heartwarmingly funny rom-coms, or historical dramas with pirates, princes, and warriors. Her books are used with love with cracked spines, dog eared pages, & highlighted sections.

A favorite sweet treat for her from Hollyhock's Bakery are the key lime cupcakes.

Her all time favorite food is a one pot coconut milk stew (she makes in a crock pot) added with onions, scallions, cabbage, shrimp, oysters, lobster meat, & crab meat. She also likes her mom's chicken scampi.

A favorite product that she likes to use on her long almost floor length strawberry blonde hair is the Glory's Crown coconut oil hair gloss.

She's friends with The Hesperides, Thetis (a popular nereid model), Alcyone (one of The Pleiades), Aphrodite (goddess of love & beauty), Pheme (goddess of fame), & The Graces. Calypso and her mother are also good friends with The Nesoi (sister island goddesses)‐ especially with the patron goddess of Ogygia.

Calypso is very much into dance as a passion. She does ballet, interpretive, & acrobatic dance. Dancing for her is not just a form of exercise- it's a way to express her innermost thoughts and feelings. It's a way of communication when words aren't enough.

She's been in love more times than she could possibly count. Calypso has had more than a few relationships with merguys & mortal guys, but none of them stole her heart the way her current "boyfriend" Odysseus did. They first met at a flea market in Eaglepoint Park during the Summer Solstice holiday. Calypso (along with her mother) was running a stall, selling their homemade seashell jewelry when she spotted him at a stall, sampling farm fresh cheeses. Their eyes locked briefly and she felt her heart instantly flutter. Fifteen minutes later, Odysseus came to her stall and she could see up close how beautiful his eyes were- dark brown with flecks of golden amber. He was having trouble picking a jewelry piece to buy so she suggested the white gold necklace with a blue opal seashell charm. Odysseus said it was for an important woman in his life & Calypso assumed he meant his mother. The two chatted throughout the duration of the fair and he even helped with packing away her stand & materials. They ended up making plans to meet up at the Summer Solstice Music Festival the next day. The day of, Calypso was surprised when she saw Odysseus walk into the park, holding hands with a girl (wearing the necklace). He introduced the girl to Calypso as his girlfriend, Penelope. She was kind & sweet and the three of them hung out at the festival, enjoying all the musical acts. Calypso invited them to come down to Ogygia for the weekend- with Penelope happily accepting the invite. During that weekend, Calypso surprised herself by actually enjoying Penelope's company. While they were hanging out at a dance class, she learned a bit more about Odysseus & Penelope's relationship. How they've been off & on for four years. Late one night (while Penelope was asleep), Calypso walked into one of the guest bathrooms and saw Odysseus soaking in a tub. He thanked her for being nice to his girlfriend. She just stared at him, slowly removing her clothes. Like a moth to a flame, Calypso joined him in the tub, straddling his hips. They ended up making love.

She now wants to live happily ever after with him, but he refuses to end things with Penelope, saying that he's confused. Calypso's relationship with Odysseus consists of texts, late night phone calls, & monthly weekend meet-ups. There are times when Calypso catches herself stalking Penelope's Fatestagram profile.

For extra income, she models for Glory's Crown, Swimsilk, Tu-Lips, Studio Bloom, & Sunshine Radiance (the goddess Eos' skincare brand).

In her free time, Calypso also enjoys swimming, surfing, painting, horseback riding, making jewelry, shopping, pottery, & going to the spa.

lilo loves vintage things. record players, black and white movies, old music, her polaroid camera.

her original camera was a gift from her parents when she was a little girl. she no longer uses it much, film got too hard to find and she worried about breaking it. but it still sits in her room.

slightly obsessed with elvis. but that’s a given.

she keeps a picture of her, nani and their parents on her at all times. if she’s out, it’s in her bag or her pocket. if she’s home, it’s under her pillow. she sleeps on it every night. it’s all she has left, and she she would have an absolute meltdown if that picture went missing.

her goal in life is to go back to hawaii. to buy her childhood home back.

she is very proud of her roots and her culture.

up until doug, lilo has never been interested in boys or girls or dating. she’s not into romance. she is asexual. he’s the first person she’s liked, crushed on or ever thought about kissing.

lilo loves the ocean. she has been surfing all her life. her dad would take her out on his board when she was too young to walk. she’s very talented at it.

she’s also talented hula dancing.

she’s into black magic. she doesn’t know what she’s doing, but she loves reading books about it and practicing voodoo. she’d never go far with it. but it was always a good release to put her bullies in a pickle jar and shake the hell out of them.

mangos and coconut are her favorite.

she doesn’t eat fish. refuses. fish are friends, not food.

when she was growing up, her mom would point out silly made up constellations to her. they always made her laugh. she’d take her out to look at the stars when she had a particularly rough day, and it would always turn it around before bedtime. that’s still her go to cheer-me-up.

before moving to prentiss, she would take a peanut butter sandwich to the ocean every thursday to feed ‘pudge the fish’, as she believed as a child he controlled the weather, and bad things would happen if he was not content.

she doesn’t own many dresses, but a lot of muumuus.

she’s terrified of riding in cars. she refuses to get her license. she avoids travelling at all costs. she’s also terrified of people she loves riding in cars, especially when it’s storming, because that’s how she lost her parents.

the night her parents died, lilo refused to tell her mom goodnight or give her a hug. she was mad at her, over something she doesn’t even remember now, and being the moody child she was, sat cross armed on her bed as her mother walked out of her room. the last time she ever saw her, she denied her affection. she will regret that until the day she dies.

lilo tends to bottle everything up until she explodes.

she’s scrappy. less now that she’s matured, but as a child she got in plenty of fights. one sided fights as the other girls just ran screaming after she bit them or ripped a fistful of their hair from their head. she’d still fight a grown man if he tempted her.

she struggles getting a job because she’s always a little strange in the interviewing process, lacks experience, shows up late, forgets completely… she does want to work and help nani out, but so far it’s not working in her favor.

very dramatic. she is so dramatic.

and hot and cold. she could be sobbing one minute and laughing the next.

usually though, aside from when she’s being extremely dramatic over tiny incidents, her emotions are more monotone. she’s not one to squeal in excitement, rather than just grin really big and point.

also loves to be the center of attention. most of her life, being the weird kid at school and mertle’s target, it was not in a good way. but she would still almost rather have the negative attention than be ignored.

she has attachment issues. once loves someone, she’s never going to stop loving them. she’s loyal, she’s all in. and she is absolutely terrified of being left behind. she’d never ask someone to stay, but she thinks it would actually break her if she lost anyone else.

super into conspiracy theories. she has proof that aliens exist, but she knows there has to be more out there. she’s convinced random people are vampires, werewolves, etc, and she will not believe otherwise until fronted with proof.

it makes her sad to think her parents will never see her graduate, meet her boyfriend, help her through her first job. they’ve already missed all her high school milestones. if she ever gets married or has a kid, they won’t be there. she isn’t in a place to accept that.

she has no idea what career she wants to go after. marine biology is at the top of her list for now.

she is quite attached to her doll scrump, one she made when she was a little girl to play with the other kids because she didn’t have any. everyone was grossed out, but she still thinks scrump is a lot cooler than any barbie, even if her head is too big.
