#human error podcast
Note
hi Ali! im looking for a new narrative podcast to get into, what's your current rec list? :)
Oh god it’s so long 😂
Horror:
Human Error - this one is mine so of course I’m recommending it 😂 it’s about a found family of survivors going on a road trip during a zombie apocalypse 12 years after the world ended!
We’re Alive - also zombie horror and was the show that got me into audio dramas! It’s very long and looks overwhelming but I promise it’s good!
Darkest Night - anthology horror where you find out how people died but each case is actually related and there is a bigger mystery and this show lives in my head rent free lol
The Waystation - found footage style show about a group of people on a space station that all died (the story is trying to piece together what happened). It’s along the same lines as The White Vault
DERELICT - a research group are studying a door at the bottom of the ocean, and then shit goes sideways. I binged this series super fact and I need season 2 immediately lol
The Eleventh Hour episode called The City of Statues - I made this! It’s about a group of survivors trying to make it out of a city filled with statues trying to hunt them down 👀
Someone Dies in this Elevator - mix of horror and thriller I think. It’s an anthology series where every episode someone dies in an elevator 👀 I composed for a few episodes and it’s v fun 🤩
Thriller
The Liberty Podcast - made by the same folks behind The White Vault and VAST Horizon. It’s an anthology series of stories taking place within and surrounding a tower where a civilization lives. Some episodes might lean more towards horror but I personally consider it more thriller
The Walk - made by the same folks behind zombies run! In this show you the listener are the main character, an individual making their way across Scotland with a package they were mistakenly delivered. I love this show so much omg
Primordial Deep - scientists are finding extinct dinosaurs alive and well under the ocean and they’re trying to figure out what the fuck is going on. I fucking love this show omg
Spines - woman wakes up in the middle of a cult ritual with no memories and is trying to figure out who she is and where she came from. Also there are powers!
Mirrors - same person behind Spines! Three women from three different centuries (who are all related to each other) discover they can communicate with each other through ghost like figures. It has a bigger mystery and the ending made me cry it was so good
InCo - a woman finds a prince from a world that shouldn’t exist floating in space. This show is a delight and is a micro series and I love the humor within it so much omg
Where the Stars Fell - the Antichrist is roommates with their guardian angel and they’re trying to stop the rapture
DUST - anthology series about science fiction and technology! Season 3 is definitely my favorite as it is one story but the entire show as a whole is very good
Feel Good/Light Hearted Shows
Unseen - this show lives in my head rent free and I ache for it to be real. It’s about magic existing in the real world and is an anthology! It’s made by the same folks behind Wolf 359
Joy to the World - holiday series I helped produce! It’s about an astronaut named Joy talking with different people on Earth about the holidays! It’s an anthology and v warm and I highly recommend it as a holiday series
Sidequesting - a person who is totally not the hero is avoiding the main plot and going on a bunch of side quests! It’s charming and lovely and made by the wonderful Tal
Back Again, Back Again - a woman is retelling her stories of his magical world she was transported into and about the prophecy she became involved in
If none of these are your jam lmk and I can suggest some more! If you tell me what you like to listen to/what kinds of stories you enjoy I can make a more personalized list

Y’all, Theo is an absolute fucking delight and has been since day one. I asked him if Norman would be our Town Selectman, and he said yes! Theo and Norman are great additions to Once Upon a Monster (of the Week), and I cannot wait for you all to hear this week’s episode. So excited to show off our Parks and Rec bebes!
Theo is also going to be GM-ing for Reddington: Continuity Errors later this season!!

welcome to night vale but i've never listened to it
I walk into the Maggots Lounge and am immediately informed that this post is an absolute necessity so here we are. I'm not sure what's happening.
I tried searching for the WTNV tag on tumblr. All I got was gratuitous nudity links. I gave up and went to my ol' buddy Pinterest.
Cecil is a guy and he likes it when Carlos takes charge.
Do Not Enter The Dog Park.
There are folks in hoods roaming the dog park with static. Probably bad signals on their radios idk.
They eat pizza.
Kevin may be important.
Do not look at the hooded figures.
Books are banned? What is this, Florida?
Sorry. Anyway, it's a podcast. I forgot to mention that.
No, really, do not look at the hooded figures. Do Not Perceive.
"It is the granddyke of fiction podcasts," as Jehan, a maggot, said.
Humans and dogs are not allowed in the dog park.
You can play in the Sheriff's Secret Police though. Idk.
It's queer. It is very very queer.
Cecil might be Jewish idk I have a bad cold someone is Jewish, anyway, and they are also very queer.
And in love with Carlos.
Wednesday has been cancelled due to scheduling errors.
It is purple. Idk all the things. They're purple. I may be delirious. The podcast may be delirious. Everyone is delirious.
Even if you are delirious, do not look at the fucking hooded figures.
There's weather.
Whatever the weather is, do not look AT THE GODDAMN HOODED FIGURES.
People find Cecil's voice sexy.
DO NOT LOOK AT THE HOODED FIGURES DO NOT LOOK AT THE HOODED FIGURES DO NOT ENTER THE DOG PARK DO NOT LO
Tagging. Um. I forgot all your tags. I'll just send this post in the maggots lounge. DONT LOOK AT TH--

For those following migrant deaths in the Mediterranean and/or billionaire deaths on vacation, I recommend the book, There Are No Accidents by Jessie Singer.
This Vox piece sums it up:
In the new book There Are No Accidents, author Jessie Singer argues that basically everything we consider to be an “accident” — be it car accidents or fatal fires or workplace injuries — are in fact not accidents at all. Humans, Singer writes, make mistakes all the time, but it’s the dangerous conditions in our built environments that result in fatal consequences. Larger systemic forces, shaped by corporations and governments, intersect to create vulnerabilities that we don’t all share equally. Anticipating and reducing those opportunities for human error is the key to preventing needless death.
The implosion of the Titan was not an accident. It was the predictable result of willfully reckless corporate decisions.
The deaths of migrants--whether at sea or on land--are never accidents. They are the intended outcome of domestic and international immigration policy.
For a better understanding of how governments weaponize landscapes to deter (i.e., murder) migrants, I recommend The Land of Open Graves by Jason De León. This book is about the U.S.-Mexico border, but its theoretical base is unfortunately applicable to many other border crossings.
If you have recs (for books, articles, podcasts, plays, documentaries, anything) on these topics, please share.

I've talked before about how scientific knowledge assumes a robust body of everyday knowledge. When you do a scientific measurement, you need to trust that your instrument is giving you the right reading instead of an error, for instance. You probably don't know the ins and outs of how the instrument works yourself—you're trusting technicians to be able to do their job and make the instrument work. They may use a mixture of formal knowledge and informal knowledge to do this. You hear all kinds of stories of technicians saying things like "this machine's a little finicky, if it doesn't give a reading just give it a couple of whacks" or whatever all the time.
You use everyday, "common sense" reasoning of various sorts to determine if your instruments work and if your technicians are trustworthy and capable and so on. You can bolster this knowledge in other ways—for instance, if another research group on the opposite side of the world gets the same result as you, that's some evidence that your readings weren't a technical error. But trusting this research group requires all sorts of other informal knowledge, which you get through e.g. your professional network as a scientist and so on, about whether they're working in a reputable lab and whether the journal they published in is reputable and so on and so forth.
I'm not saying that this makes scientific knowledge untrustworthy. Far from it, I think scientists' ability to manage these epistemic hurdles is generally quite good, although certainly not flawless. They're an occupational hazard of being a human and trying to collaborate with other humans to figure stuff out about the world, there's no way you can get around it. But I do think it means that if you want to consider yourself, you know... epistemically virtuous, a good skeptic, you need a working model of how everyday knowledge is and should be obtained, an epistemic theory applicable to "folk knowledge" not obtained through the scientific process. Not only because you use folk knowledge all the time in your everyday life and should probably be thoughtful about whether it's bullshit or not, but also because the scientific process itself relies on it in a straightforward way.
Anyway, I can't do a rigorous scientific study to figure out... how I should respond to my friend when they're down, or how to throw them a good birthday party, or whatever. And I would be dubious of any psychology study which claims to answer these questions in a general sense. But that doesn't mean that I don't know how to do these things for my friend! My specific, "folk psychological" understanding of who my friend is as an individual, what they care about, how they respond to things, these are more reliable guides than the psychological literature would be on this issue! That viewpoint is not "anti-science". The alternative view is so patently ridiculous that basically no one hews to it, not even scientists.
On second thought I'm sure there are like, some podcast guys who believe it...

The Power of Error!
Titan! What a name for a moon, the jewel of Saturn, boundless scientific value, the works!
Bureaucracy! The most horrifying eldritch abomination Humanity has ever birthed. It is all pervasive, unavoidable, unfathomable, unkillable. A singular stroke on a piece of parchment (it's all digital these days, but hush now, dramatic words) can decide the fate of all.
Captain Knoslark, the head of the Warp Gate project and general overseer of the Dyson Ring construction efforts, was not enthused with paperwork. Unless it was a character sheet or notes for his drama plays. Get in, get out, minimal effort so he can go back to running four hundred million terawatts between two closely located quantum entangled particles. Why not, maybe he can turn string theory into string fact!
One day, after yet another report about the construction efforts, the captain was visited by Vice Admiral Krastina, one of the primary officers in charge of patrolling the inner Sol system and also managing the assistance with any nearby construction efforts.
"Captain Knoslark, a word."
He didn't like to have "words" with people like her. That always meant something bothersome, like responsibility.
"These are the materials requisition forms you signed off on, yes?"
He didn't know. Probably? Whenever someone asks a question like that, they already know the answer, and that means it's bad news. Could she just not do that? We can skip this.
"We will not be skipping this, Captain."
Witchcraft!
Well okay, the captain was notoriously bad at any social deduction games as he could not lie or pretend to save his life, except when he's explicitly roleplaying. If he weren't an actual captain, he could pull this off, but he is, so he can't.
"Care to comment on what happened to Titan?"
As a matter of fact, Captain Knoslark didn't care to answer that, mainly because he didn't know, but the Vice Admiral seemed to want something, so he brainstormed and came up with a brilliant plan.
"Right, can we instead do a thing where I say "Smokebomb!" and I leave and this conversation ends? Because I do not have an answer to that and this is incredibly awkward. I think we can pull this off. Okay, ready?
Smokebomb!"
The Vice Admiral maintained a steely gaze on him, narrowing her eyes just a tad with each passing second as Knoslark slowly crouch-walked backwards for the door, also maintaining perfect eye contact with her.
With an unchanging expression of expectation throughout, the good captain leaves the room after a solid minute.
Krastina shakes her head, she also doesn't want to deal with explaining to the government and even less so to the populace why Titan was unceremoniously broken apart and used up to further the construction of the Dyson Ring. To be fair, it has sped up the process tremendously.
Still. Damn. How did he misspell Thyone so badly? Nobody cares about that random moon. Of Jupiter, no less.
__________________
This whole thing exists because I wanted to use the joke of smokebombing out of a conversation by just saying the word. Heard it on a podcast a few years back and just suddenly recalled it. Titan in this verse is gone now all because of something dumb like that. I will not apologize.

Flight rising TMA Fandragons pt 1 of 3
This will contain spoilers
-
So i’ve been working on transforming the tma cast into silly little dragons ^^ jon was my first i planned out in july of last year. Its been a Very fun and Deeply expensive little collection which is still ongoing. The colors for these are in the alt text ^^
Jons skin was made by yours truly and was single handedly one of my most expensive items to buy, it features all his mentioned scars (or most anyways-) his burnt hand, teethmarks from daisy over his neck, and although they cant be seen with his outfit stab marks from michael. I thought a green theme fit him well given the podcasts coverart. I figured with the amount of stress this dude goes through a spiral was a perfect fit.
Martin was rather difficult to find the correct colors for at the time. I wanted him to carry pieces of his past with him (a locket from his mother, a coat from his internship with peter lukas and his tea set) i wanted him to be a Protector so i thought an obby was a good choice
Tim was Beyond fun and So So difficult, i wanted to play around with the idea of him becoming an avatar of the desolation after his demise and made him out of Wax and fire. Unfortunately they Still don’t have Hawaiian style shirts in FR so i had to compromise. I gave him some carnival wear to show its still Part of him
Sasha was a little difficult to get perfect- i wanted to show that she was plain enough to Melt into the background. She’s wrapped in more of the carousel set to show she Cant get off the merry go round because she Doesn’t have a face. I took Heavy inspo of her design from @reidspng sasha design cause i think they captured her Perfectly
Melanie King I was playing around with the thought of Ghost bullets and Bones, i scried her colors on accident after some trial and error and just Loved it, her outfit just fell in place after i got the skry ^^
Gerry was one of the first i completed fully- i saw the kelpie hair and just Knew it would be a perfect box dye, i wanted to give him this sorta ghostly aura- like you’d just summoned him in a seance and he just looks beyond annoyed
Gertrude was a little difficult to find the proper scry for- it felt like Nothing i was doing was turning out right- i started with her outfit first and worked backwards eventually landing on this- i’m rather happy with her overall- her as a coatl just worked out so well for a little arson grannie
Adelard dekker, One of my all time favorite statements mag157 has always stayed with me and i just Knew i had to make this fella. Poison and concrete were my inspirations, i wanted to imagine him as an avatar of the extinction having risen from his tomb to study and try to reverse the end of humanity.
Basira Husain- it is- hilariously difficult to make a modest muslim outfit in a game that doesn’t allow religious imagery- i eventually landed on this which was the Best i could manage. Her skry came after, i wanted to show off her intelligence and mild affiliation with the eye as Glasses (very cliche i know)
Last for this group is Daisy tonner- she’s my eldest of my fandragons at 7 years old (very expensive little purchase ;-;) i liked the idea of having mud and soil as a theme to reference when she was in the buried. She was originally planned as an imperial but i thought a wildclaw would suit her better.

Imperfections and Growth in Dominance
In D/S, dominants often find themselves depicted as flawless, almost mythical figures embodying unwavering control and infallibility. However, this portrayal is far from the reality of the dynamic. Dominants, like everyone else, are inherently human, with their own set of imperfections and the capacity to make mistakes. Acknowledging and openly discussing these errors is not a sign of weakness but a crucial aspect of personal and collective growth within the D/S community.
One prevailing myth is that dominants are impervious to mistakes, standing as paragons of perfection in their roles. This misconception can be detrimental, creating unrealistic expectations for both dominants and submissives. The truth is that dominants, despite their leadership roles, are not immune to errors. Recognizing this reality contributes to the dismantling of harmful stereotypes and fosters a healthier understanding of D/S dynamics.
Mistakes, far from being mere faux pas, are invaluable learning opportunities. Openly discussing these missteps creates an environment where dominants can share their experiences, vulnerabilities, and the lessons gleaned from their errors. Embracing the concept that mistakes are inherent to the learning process dismantles the stigma associated with them, encouraging dominants to view missteps as stepping stones toward growth.
The openness of dominants about their mistakes serves as an educational beacon for those new to the D/S community. Novices often encounter a plethora of myths and misconceptions and witnessing experienced dominants candidly discuss their errors offers a more authentic and relatable perspective. Learning from the experiences of seasoned dominants provides invaluable insights and helps newcomers navigate the complexities of the lifestyle with a more realistic understanding.
Even those regarded as seasoned or experienced dominants continually evolve and encounter novel challenges. Embracing a culture of openness regarding mistakes facilitates ongoing growth for these individuals. Discussing missteps among peers allows seasoned dominants to share their insights, refine their practices, and develop a deeper understanding of their own evolving dynamics.
A community built on transparency and shared experiences creates a support network where dominants feel comfortable acknowledging their mistakes without fear of judgment. The vulnerability displayed in these discussions fosters empathy, understanding, and a shared commitment to continual improvement. This supportive environment benefits everyone involved, promoting healthier and more fulfilling D/S relationships.
In essence, the importance of dominants openly discussing their mistakes cannot be overstated. It dispels myths, facilitates learning opportunities, aids the growth of both newcomers and seasoned dominants and nurtures a supportive community. Embracing imperfection and treating mistakes as valuable learning experiences not only enhances individual dominants' journeys but contributes to the overall strength and resilience of the D/S community. Through shared wisdom and a commitment to ongoing self-improvement, dominants can lead by example, creating a culture that encourages openness, understanding, and continuous growth.
