I fucked up wearing headphones and my mom started humming my music, which made me feel awkward.
Overall not bad of a dream, tbh.

HIIIII :D Im bored lowkey so I was wonderin if yall have smth to infodump about :3 literally anything at all I do not care- (aka this is just a free invitation to info dump :3)
Let's see... I researched about humming recently! It got introduced to me as a coping mechanism for stress relief & I had to find out why.
Humming is beneficial for our health!
To hum, we create a buzzing sound with our mouth closed.
We force air through our vocal folds (the newer term for vocal cords), causing them to vibrate & produce sound.
We can control the pitch by adjusting the tension of our vocal folds to hum a tune.
Humming is most likely connected to our earliest memories of comfort & care, as caregivers soothe infants with lullabies & humming.
Infants, unable to comprehend speech, take in the melodic information, making humming one of our earliest forms of bonding through sound.
When we grow older, we hum when we’re happy, embarrassed, displeased, or in agreement with someone - it's a form of communication.
But we also hum subconsciously, mostly to relax ourselves. Have you ever noticed yourself humming without thinking?
What does humming do?
Humming greatly increases nasal nitric oxide: Nitric oxide (NO) is a neural transmitter that is released as a gas to sterilize the air you breathe, protecting your body by sterilizing airborne pathogens. It increases arterial oxygenation and has been shown to reduce blood pressure. Nitric oxide is involved in everything from brain & immune function to blood flow to the lungs & sexual arousal. The more nasal NO, the better!
Humming stimulates your vagus nerve: This plays a key role in activating the parasympathetic nervous system, otherwise known as your "rest & digest" state. This is the nervous system that calms & restores body functions such as our heart rate, digestion & respiration. Because your vagus nerve runs through both the larynx & pharynx in your throat, humming creates a vibration that stimulates your vagus nerve & can increase your vagal tone (aka the health of your vagus nerve!).
‍Humming can improve heart rate variability: HRV It is an important metric that shows how well you are able to deal with & recover from stress. When you hum, you induce parasympathetic dominance, which means you move out of “fight or flight” stress mode into relaxation.
Humming also has psychological effects: These include increased body awareness & "decentering" aka the ability to separate oneself from thoughts, emotions & sensations & also stress & anxiety relief
Humming plays an important role in chanting.
One example is in the ancient meditation technique bhramari pranayama (which can involve humming while gently closing the ears with your fingertips).
It is no coincidence that one of the world’s most chanted sounds - the om - involves a long, sustained hum at the end.
I regularly do om-chanting & believe me: it's like a workout & it leaves you feeling grounded & floaty at the same time. It's absolutely beautiful.
Chanting has cognitive benefits, such as mindfulness & altered states of consciousness, such as flow: a feeling of being absorbed by and deeply focused on an activity.

But it was a nicer sound than that, a more musical tone: only so faint that you could hardly hear it.
