Hummingbird week day 6: Be Gentle With Me
Summer Rose was a brat, sure, but also likely the softest member of STRQ in terms of affection. Her approach, when the time called for it, was as gentle as summer rain and Qrow reveled in being intimate with someone who handled him with care and love in each of her actions.

Red Like Roses
@hummingbirdweek
Brothers, why was he so anxious. He could make every girl on campus swoon just by fixing his bangs. And yet somehow, the one girl he actually wanted made him crumble like a house of cards. It was... maddening. They’d been partners on the same team for well over two years by this point, so why couldn't he say something?
He couldn’t help tossing and turning in his pint sized bed. He wanted to tell Summer he loved her so bad, but could never find the courage to. Well, not this time. Come fourth period, he would do it. It didn’t matter if she rejected him or more likely kicked his ass afterwards; Qrow Branwen would make his feelings known.
Morning went okay, same as always. Summer somehow up and at it at 6 in the morning, telling him to get out of bed. Qrow never listened, not because he was tired but because he didn’t want Summer to see him blush. Brothers, why was she so damn beautiful? It wasn’t until she relented, that he could finally get changed for another mundane day.
Their first few classes were nauseatingly boring, as they had been since they were first years. Half of what Professor Port said, Qrow had learned the hard way; he had the scars and lost friends to prove it. Which is why he hardly ever paid any attention to them. And as much as he fought the urge, he couldn’t resist staring at his little leader.
Fortunately, as a model student, she never noticed.
Next was lunchtime. Qrow always wondered about the ludicrous budget for food at Beacon. If the tribe saw this spread, everybody would enrol here. A far cry from his and Raven’s days of scavenging and hunting; praying they’d see the end of the week. But try as he might, Qrow couldn’t stomach much. The moment of truth encroaching by the second.
*DING DING DING*
Goddammit.
As a quickly as the bell had rang, Summer was right behind him to ensure he attended. Despite barely being 5 feet tall, Summer’s presence could make a Goliath cower in fear.
“You coming, Qrow?” the little titan asked sweetly.
“Ughhh... yeah. Right behind you.” He answered meekly.
Her one of a kind smile followed his answer, slowly beginning to saunter off to class. But before she was able to, she felt a light pull at her sleeve. Puzzled, Summer turned her gaze around to see Qrow nervously scratching his head. What confused her most was that it seemed he was avoiding eye contact, which wasn’t at all like him.
“Qrow? What's wrong?” She questioned.
“Umm, do you mind if we... talked for a bit?” He stammered out.
“Sorry, Qrow. Can it wait? I dont wann-”
“No, it can’t.”
The harshness of his voice surprised her. In the time she’d been his partner, he’d never heard him in that tone of voice. Sure, he was moody at the best of times, but this? This was different and she wasn’t sure how to feel.
“If I wait any longer, I’ll never be able to say it.” He explained.
Say it? What the hell is he talking about? She thought to herself. Qrow speaking at length was a rare occurrence, particularly around her. So, needless to say, all of this was sending her mind into overdrive. Was this was she thought it was? Or was she just overthinking it?
“Can we go outside?” Qrow asked, breaking Summer’s line of thought.
“Sure...”
Summer followed behind her lanky partner, trying to keep up with his long strides. It was at time like this Summer realized how tall Qrow really was. He had the lovely habit of slouching practically all the time, so she seldom noticed the difference between them. But Gods above...
Under the blaring light of the midsummer sun, Qrow picked a spot beneath the canopy of an old oak tree. It was a short walk from the cafeteria, but the heat was unforgiving. Sometime capes aren’t the greatest fashion choice. Summer then leaned against the trunk, relishing in the shade; all the while her partner paced nervously.
“So what’s this all about?” Summer finally inquired “You’re not normally this pushy.”
“Uh well, I wanted to.. tell you... ughh”
“Tell me what?” She grumbled, starting to getting annoyed.
For God’s sake, TELL HER. His mind screamed at him. To do something, say anything. But his voice failed at every attempt. Qrow stood like a stump, incoherent babble leaking from his mouth. With that, Summer shook her head.
“Okay, Qrow. If you’re not gonna tell me what this whole song and dance is about then I’m going to class.” She snapped, storming off towards campus.
Without thinking, Qrow grabbed her wrist. A desperate wordless attempt to salvage this situation. Summer was about to wretch herself free and give Qrow a free lesson in personal space. At least until she heard him whisper.
“I like you, Summer...”
The young woman whipped around in disbelief, unsure if was dreaming or not.
“What?” the only word she could muster.
“I like you, Summer.” Qrow repeated “Ever since we met that day in Emerald Forest, I’ve been hopelessly in love with you. I’ve want tell to you for ages now, but I was scared to get too close. I’d never forgive myself if my semblance did something to hurt you. I’m-”
THUD
A solid kick to the gut had Qrow reeling and gasping for air. Summer was infinitely stronger than her stature implied. Coughing, looked up to find an answer for whatever the hell that was for; only for Summer to take his face in her hands. Before he could figure out what she was doing now, he felt her warmth against his lips.
What’s going on? Is this real? Those thoughts replayed through his mind as Summer continued to give him the best kiss of his life. His right hand moved on its own, running through Summer’s hair and cupping her cheek. Each second felt like heaven, even as she pulled away, albeit begrudgingly. Silver met Vermilion, Qrow’s face still in her caress.
“Sorry.” His crush apologized, “I didn’t know how else to shut you up.”
Qrow just chuckled, still in the bliss of the moment.
“If you couldn’t tell already. I like you, too.” She admitted, twirling a finger through his feathery hair.
Who’d have guessed three little words could make a man feel indomitable. Qrow had always hoped, but never once thought it feel this incredible. Summer broke his trance, pulling on his arm.
“C’mon. We can ‘talk’ more later. For now, let’s get to class before Raven and Tai start wondering where we are.”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
Qrow stood up beside her, feeling reborn. Their eyes met once more before Summer offered her hand. The young man took it in his own without a drop of doubt.
His semblance may have been Misfortune but damn did he ever feel lucky.

Day 6: @hummingbirdweek
Cornflower;
Be Gentle With Me
Link Here
Snippet:
The crisp air chilled exposed skin, despite the heaters working beyond capacity to push back the cold. A shiver rose bumps across her skin, and tentatively an eye cracked open. The faint scent of fire and smoke lingered in the air, and the remaining embers flared slightly as the breeze slipped down the leaky fireplace chimney.
Her cheeks ached against the cold, and she squeezed silver eyes shut again. Turning them down into the plush rug and pillow, she tried to pull in a deep breath only to gather a lung-full of musty, damp air. Instantly, her lungs rebelled, curling into a ball into the crimson cloak draped across her form as a coughing jag racked her body.  A fresh breath, this time through the cloak, filled her senses with the scent of pine and new earth. Instantly, her eyes popped open with a start. Shooting up, silver eyes searched the room for another person. Instead, she found her drying clothes slung over a rack near the fireplace, her boots leaned against the hearth. The room itself was empty.
The cloak and then blanket draped across it held the rest of her modesty intact, and she rapidly moved to redress herself. Stiff from the drying process, the smell of smoke clung to them, but she was grateful for the lingering warmth and lack of moisture. Fully garbed, save for her cloak which was still slightly damp she looked about. The small dingy suite rented out for their mission was dark. Another cold breeze slipped through an unseen crack. Flicking a light switch, nothing lit up, and the young women sighed.
No power.

HUMMINGBIRD WEEK 2019
Day 1: mission
Gorgon Island. Named after a fabled Grimm that was supposedly slayed by one of the Kings of Vale during an exploration voyage. Not many people live on it but it's an important area for Vacuoan fishermen and diving lovers since it's a relatively safe place to engage in such activity.
Or at least it used to be safe until two weeks ago.
Reports of an aquatic Grimm attacking fishermen and swimmers in the area began flooding the Huntsman mission boards in all Sanus but not many were feeling up to deal with a sea Grimm at the moment which led to a couple to prolong their return back to home and deal with this menace.
"And how many hours have we been in this boat again?" A disgruntled man asked his partner who unlike him, seemed very content with waiting for their target while happily waiting if some fish would bite and decide if she would eat them or keep some as a trophy of  sorts.
"It's not that bad and you know we couldn't just let this plea go unheard. The live sustenance of many fishermen is at stake because of this threat!" Summer argued.
"No need to tell me twice Sum" Qrow grumbled. "It's just that I feel bad for not coming back on the time we promised...I was supposed to spend the weekend with our daughter building some shoddy model for her class' show and tell. Man, that pout is going to be the end of me"
"*Giggle* don't be so dramatic you bird dad. We will see her soon but I understand, I miss spending time with her. Besides, after this, we're definitely taking a break" the silver eyed woman assured her husband who relaxed a bit.
And for a few minutes, silence reigned until Summer broke it once again.
"Did you know that there's a legend about a giant fish around these parts? Like the ones on that Mistral program on wildlife channel"
"Suuure, the same "monsters" that always look like big blurs on photos and/or videos...Besides, we already deal with enough monsters as it-"
His rod began to being pulled by something big considering the strain on said fishing rod that would've sunk in the sea if he didn't catch it.
This fish was really giving them hell and Summer stepped in by grabbing her husband and helping him pull with every ounce of strength they could summon but they prevailed, and by that it meant, they pulled so hard that the humongous fish flew in the air and the recoil basically threw them out of the boat.
It was good that happened or they might not have noticed the big shark like Grimm jumping straight to their location though it barely avoiding both them and the boat. It was time to work unless they wanted to become Grimm food.
Giving they were still near the boat, it didn't take time to claim back and take their weapons to face their target, which was circling back briskly towards them.
The Carcharodon in question was big but not big enough as it could given the records of this aquatic Grimm so dealing with it ended up being easier than expected because of its size, the fact that they noticed it on time and with the help of "magical eyes".
“Mission accomplished!!!” they both shouted. The Branwen huntsman shouting louder because not only meant he could go home fast, he also gets to keep his trophy!
Speaking of said trophy….
------------------
“Mommy! Daddy! I won a golden star thanks to daddy´s big fishie!” Ruby exclaimed running happily into her mother’s arms. After scouting the area in search of an lingering Grimm and eliminating those that they found, they went back to land where the owner of the boat tried to buy the fish but Qrow refused since at that moment, it occurred to him that the fish could be useful for their daughter’s “show and tell” presentation. Graciously, the man offered to arrange for a taxidermist to take care of it.
It was a total hit in the classroom! Qrow always strived to be worthy of his “best dad in the world” mug; after all, her daughter’s smile and the rewards Summer would give him made it all worth it.

Hummingbird Week Day 4
@hummingbirdweek i keep outdoing myself with the fluff. Someone stop me.
Day 4 - Mission
Summer woke with a start, her heart pounding fast against her sore rib cage. Almost every muscle in her body hurt. Her eyes felt heavy and itched as she forced them open. Still groggy with exhaustion, Summer drew in a few deep breaths in attempt to ground herself.
Her surroundings wen’t familiar, and the soft bed she was laying on didn’t quite feel right, but she drew comfort from the warm arm draped over her stomach. Summer rolled over to snuggle against Qrow’s chest, movements stiff and slow.
Qrow’s arms unconsciously tightened around her, an easy intimacy that was familiar. It let Summer relax further and allowed the finer points of yesterday's disaster of a mission to sluggishly re-enter her mind.
She groaned quietly as she remembered her back making contact with a solid brick wall towards the end of the fight. Her aura had been very nearly depleted by that point, and explained her full-body ache. They had managed to take out the Grimm they were sent here to deal with after that, but the battle had taken a lot more out of them than STRQ had anticipated. The four of them had returned to their hotel rooms, showered, and passed out before the sun had even fully set.
Judging by the weak light filtering through the room’s curtains, it was now well past dawn. They were supposed to catch an airship back to Patch at noon, but Summer couldn't summon the will to drag herself out of bed to get ready to leave.
“Tai went down to the desk and rented the rooms for another night,” Qrow murmured blearily, apparently awake. His grip around her once again tightened, though it still remained loose enough to avoid putting pressure on the most sore spots.
Summer glanced over at the closed door that separated their room from Raven and Taiyang’s. Their teammates had to be even more sore than she was; an Ursa had done its best to turn Tai into its chew toy, so of course Raven had attempted to take on the entire pack of them by herself. Luckily she and Qrow weren’t far away when the fight started, because even Raven would have had a hard time facing a dozen Ursa by herself.
Summer huffed ruefully. Even after four years of school and two years of missions in the real world, STRQ still held onto the monotra of ‘act first, ask questions later’. Judging by her recent acquaintance with the side of a building, she wasn’t any less guilty. It was really something that she should have worked with her teammates on more.
This botched mission just proved that even after six years of being a leader, still still had a lot to learn.
Qrow sighed, his breath warming the top of her head, causing Summer’s focus to slip away from her train of thought. “You’re thinking too much,” he complained. “Go back to sleep.”
Distracted, Summer closed her eyes and curled back into Qrow’s embrace. “I was supposed to meet Ozpin this evening,” she mumbled, voice muffled against Qrow’s shirt. “He said he found a lead.”
“Talk to him tomorrow then.”
“What if it’s important?”
“Then it will be just as important tomorrow.”
Summer smiled at his flawed logic, releasing an amused breath instead of a full laugh. She really was tired, and sleep would replenish her teammates’ auras faster than being awake and traveling. They had learned that lesson the hard way. “Maybe you’re right.”
Qrow huffed, feigning offense. “You know, that actually happens a lot. I don’t know why you always act so surprised.”
Summer opened her eyes again, muscles protesting as she pulled away and propped herself up on her elbow. Tired though she was, she recognized the mocking in his tone.
But there was no mocking in the way that Qrow looked up at her, his gaze half-lidded. Drowsy. Adorable in a way that was entirely unfair when she felt as bruised and rumpled as she did.
Whatever she had been ready to say was forgotten. “I love you,” Summer breathed out instead, surprising herself. It wasn’t by any means the first time that she told him how she felt, and though he had yet to say the words back, he also hasn’t run off. Which was good, because Summer knew that each ‘I love you’ was far from her last.
A torrent of emotions swept through Qrow’s eyes as he stared up at her. An eternity passed by before he blinked them back out of sight and pulled her against his chest with a gruff, “I’d love if you would go back to sleep.”
Summer hid her smile against his shirt, the thick emotion in his voice a better response than any three words could ever be. The shiver that ran down her spine pulled at her abused muscles, reminding her of the bone-aching exhaustion that was keeping them in bed. Summer yawned and pressed herself further against Qrow, humming a contented note when his hand began slowly rubbing circles into her lower back.
The room was pleasantly warm and quiet, a combination that very quickly tugged Summer’s tired mind towards sleep. She pushed thoughts of the mission and her team out of her head for now; there would be plenty of time to worry about them both when they actually headed home.
After a while, Qrow’s soothing hand on her back gradually slowed to a stop. She thought that he had fallen back asleep, until the quiet was interrupted by a whispered, “I love you, too.”
A jolt of elation sparked in her chest, but Summer only had the energy to twitch her fingers against Qrow’s abdomen in response before sleep completely dragged her under.

Hummingbird Week - Moment
Qrow, in his early early early days at Beacon, was a touch “difficult” much like Raven. The two would often wander off for days at a time with not so much as a text or letter to Summer or Taiyang.
Summer wasn’t having it. She was the leader. If she couldn’t corral some kids then how was she going to lead them in training and combat? Both Tai and herself split up to find the missing twins. Summer happens to find Qrow in a tree. She gets up to his branch and begins to lecture him about responsibility and diligence and teamwork... then it hits her how high she was in that damned maple.
Clinging to the branch, she finds herself stuck.
Qrow is rather unsympathetic.
A little comedy for the first day of Hummingbird Week. This is no more than three weeks into team STRQ and Summer is already having trouble with the tall, dark and snarky.
