One Piece Chapter 1049 - Initial Thoughts

And we're back, we've been asking for it

Starting with the cover story and a sudden fire has set the brothers free, we still dunno who has arrived in Chocolat town but it'd have to be different from this lab. I still don't buy that it's Blackbeard though

Starting back with the clash and Kaido's back on his confident 'commending but I'm still winning' speech

And we finally get that Kaido flashback

10 years old and he's already taken down the US Capitol

Ironic since he's apparently from the Vodka kingdom, may explain why he likes the booze and is obsessed with military might...

It is a dark outlook on the world though, since the Vodka kingdom needs to wage war to loot enough cash for the Celestial Dragon tributes

Kaido of course is miffed by this, and then later the kingdom tries to sell him off to the marines, so you can see why he didn't really trust people - but no reason to be a shitty father and a subjugator

God though the What If scenario; Big Mom, Kaido, Ace, and Luffy could've all potentially been marines...

Of course, Kaido didn't become a marine, he busted out and took to piracy. And it seems he got captured intentionally to grab some food

I guess the fact that Rocks had Whitebeard headhunt Kaido in Fullalead confirms that Blackbeard did indeed take over Rocks' old base, it is indeed their Port Royal

Rocks definitely had a fancy looking ship as well

Of course, we gloss over God Valley, even the skull in Fullalead looks like its crying

Linlin seems angry, looks like Kaido went walkabouts in the decisive battle, so why does Kaido owe her a life debt for giving him a DF at the end of God Valley?

He's not drawn well but Queen sure looks different

Kaido already had a massive army even back then, but his philosophy is pretty warped, and hypocritical compared to Wano where there's anarchy but still inequality

Then we get to Joy Boy mentions, Yamato using it to peak Kaido's interest on how Yamato learned it, but his dialogue is left on a cliffhanger with King over who he thinks Joy Boy will be

CP0 dude is bouncing, guess Maha and White-Eye are indeed gone

Believing in Luffy and encouraged by Yamato, Momo calls for the clouds once more, but some kind of energy seems to emit from the Fire Festival instead, and in the Performance Floor Kid seems to perturbed by something, did Momo use the Voice of All Things?

The deluge continues to flush through Onigashima too, taking out Brook, Robin, Apoo and Bepo as it also comes towards a worried Law

Usopp managed to cling onto Kiku and Kin'emon at least and Nami, Chopper and Tama are staring down the wave too - Zeus could lift them just saying

Sanji and the Oiran are being swept up too, the simp in Sanji cannot resist the fact that Osome has clung to him

Franky meanwhile holds his ground, I may be clutching at straws but does Zoro look like he could be stirring, those eyes look a little open

The deluge won't reach Hiyori, Denjiro and Orochi'd head though, since it's higher than the water

Denjiro does commend Hiyori for enduring 20 years of torment, but it's probably not the satisfying conclusion people hoped for

On top of the flood though Onigashima is tilting, the fire clouds have gone!

On the one hand this means Kaido is using all his energy now, but this also means PANIK

Luffy is still squeezing as much force as he can too, while Kaido asks him what kind of world he wants

Momo finally does it though! Summoning a large nimbus cloud to envelop and move the Island away

And the Bajrang Gun has now come alive properly, forcing its way through the flaming dragon and making it to Kaido himself as Luffy declares his core mission in Wano, to make sure everyone he likes can eat as much as they like

And the force truly does send Kaido down into the ground as the flashback concludes: Joy boy would be the one Kaido thinks can beat him

Like with Orochi, a lantern shows the wish to vanquish the dragon as Luffy and Momo fall to ground with Onigashima gently placed next to the Flower Capital

Well that was a whirlwind of a chapter for sure, but like last chapter, I can't be certain Kaido's finished. I mean it's taken a lot out of Momo and Luffy to do this, if Kaido gets back up we may have one more twist in the tale, 1050 is one of those big number ones after all.

But still good on Momo finally getting it done, and with Onigashima safe it's possible that most of the alliance can come out as reinforcements. I think Kawamatsu could move the water to spare the performance floor serious harm.

Kaido's flashback was brief and glossed over a bit, but at least we get a clue into what turned the fish boy into who he is. God Valley seems a key part though, his absence must've been due to a turning point we'll have to see later.

Alas, now we have another break, I saw this one coming but it doesn't make it sting any less. 27th May will be 50 chapters since the 1000th Chapter at New Year's 2021 when Roof Piece begins, will Roof Piece now end?

Only time will tell.

Saw a "Strawhats as Percy Jackson houses" post and it pissed me off so badly I'm making my own.

Luffy: legacy born to Dragon, the World's Worst criminal, son of Garp, the Hero of the Marines, who we will discuss later. That said, given how Luffy is, who Dragon is, and the Will of D in general, I think Eris, goddess of Strife is a good one.

Zoro: a dignified warrior with strong "fuck around and find out" energy. If he's not drinking, he's napping, and if he's not doing either of those, he's training. Textbook son of Ares (the post was actually right about this)

Sanji: his whole story falls apart without Judge and Sora, and yet, who's to say Sora has to be his bio mom? Son of Athena, who, fascinated with Judge's attempts to perfect life, saw fit to help. Sora gives birth to mundane (for a given value of mundane, they're still genetically enhanced) triplets. Athena is simultaneously proud and disappointed in him, because he's so smart, but then he's so stupid

Usopp: the original post said Hephaestus, and while I don't think that's inaccurate, we can do better. Usopp is the skill monkey of the crew. Before somebody comes along to specifically do something, he's the one doing it. He's the de facto shipwright and musician before those spots are filled, and even after, he's the de facto trickster. In Arlong Park, when Luffy describes Usopp's role, it's not that he can shoot from long distances, it's that he can lie. So I'm saying Hermes kid.

Nami: this one's hard to say. One of the simplest backstories, and yet, such a multifaceted character. Navigator. Cartographer. Thief. I almost wanna put her in Hermes with Usopp, but that feels like cheating. Still, I don't have a better idea at the moment, so I'll just stick with that.

Chopper: that is a reindeer.

Robin: not a demigod. She has enough problems being the sole survivor of a buster call, the only one who can read the Poneglyphs, and having the largest starting bounty in history. I entertained the idea of making her an Athena kid, but it felt wrong somehow.

Franky: the original post and I see eye to eye on this one. Franky is an orphan from nowhere who builds war machines as a teenager. He's so clearly a Hephaestus kid.

Brook: Son of Hades, a forbidden child. Old enough and spent enough years isolated that he doesn't get why this is such a big deal.

Jinbe: As much as I'd love to make the First Son of the Sea a son of Poseidon, I feel as if his story works best if he earned his strength and reputation.

Right, crew out of the way, let's get to some extras. Yonko first.

Whitebeard: Zeus. Zeus isn't just the God of thunder and the sky, he's also the king of the gods. That makes him a god of hospitality, as well. And what's more hospitable than adopting literally hundreds of children because growing up an orphan sucked so bad? Not to mention that, within Riordan's continuity at least, Zeus is the worst deadbeat of the lot, so making his son the pinnacle of fatherhood in Shonen anime just feels right.

Big Mom: Also Eris. Big Mom and Luffy are, fundamentally, the same. Two gluttons who want freedom and equality for all, with horrible abandonment issues. The difference being, Luffy had Shanks to set a good example for him, while Big Mom had a life of crime. If their roles were reversed, they would have each other's lives, and we'd be watching Big Mom Piece (ngl that'd go so hard)

Kaido: Kaido is something called an Oni, but what does that mean? It looks like he has horns and he's stupid big. I kinda want Kaido not to be a demigod, because he's a monster. The King of the Beasts, the World's Strongest Creature, a dragon waiting in a castle for someone to kill him.

Shanks: Manga spoilers in this one. You've been warned.

We recently learned that Shanks is Figarland Shanks, son of Figarland Garling, leader of God's Knights. He's a celestial dragon. I'm not sure if you've seen One Piece, but celestial dragons aren't good people. They steal, rape, and kill with impunity, and Garling is especially cold blooded among them. However, the celestial dragons are also an example of Oda doing Nature vs Nurture again, and Shanks is his example of that. Shanks is found in a box by the Roger Pirates at God Valley, and the King of the Pirates chooses to raise Shanks as his own. Anyways, Shanks is mortal, although all the CD's are probably legacies.

Blackbeard: I'm not saying anything on this one until we get more backstory. For a placeholder answer, I'll say Apate, goddess of deceit.

Buggy: Aphrodite, because have you seen that man's sex appeal? Plus, people believe him way too easily, he gotta be charmspeaking.

That's it for Yonko, let's get the original three Admirals, and then some important miscellaneous characters and we'll call it a day.

Akainu: who needs to be a demigod when you're HIM? Wallahi we're not ready.

Being serious, though, I'm a "Rocks Pirates killed Akainu's family" truther. His narrative role is best fit by him being just some guy.

Aokiji/Kuzan: Speaking of fan theories, he's 100% Brook's son.

Kizaru: Given how he usually drones when he talks, and he never seems to take things seriously, I'm saying Dionysus. I will double down on this if/when he betrays Saturn.

Garp: remember a thousand years ago, when I talked about Zoro and his "fuck around and find out" energy? Yeah, Garp regularly talks shit about world nobles *to their faces.* Ares for sure.

Roger: I'm feeling either just some guy, or Athena. Something about the search for the One Piece, a quest for lost knowledge and absolute freedom, feels very Athena to me.

Ace: See Roger. That's the only part of his story I'm touching, because his backstory is lowkey perfect.

Sabo: just some guy. He was always just some guy that Luffy and Ace liked, and it's one of his greatest qualities in a story littered with lineages of heroes and special races.

There were on a certain island, in a certain country surrounded by ancient floral beauty, happy faces, children running around and laughing with sincere laughter, parents who looked at them smiling sincerely in turn, and bursts of joy mixed with the different music played on the corners of the streets.

Indeed people were partying and taking advantage of the huge stands that were everywhere in the Capital of Flowers. For all ages and all tastes, ranging from traditional food stalls such as delicious freshly cooked Takoyaki, to children's stalls such as Matsuri, children love to catch fish although it is very difficult.

Sign that the mood was at its highest, even the people who argued before for a tiny piece of food were dancing shoulder to shoulder, or drinking together although it was only one o'clock.

Indeed, for the first time in twenty years there was an atmosphere of peace, joy and hope. This had been launched by the return of the Kozuki clan, the only family that was worthy of siring future shoguns. Thanks to the victory won by the red scabbards accompanied by a few pirates against the former shogun and the former great dragon, true master of the place, everyone was at peace.

But behind this festive atmosphere, there still resided blackened and greedy hearts that were absolutely in no mood for laughter. They were those who had tasted nothing but the best food and drunk nothing but the best water for twenty years, those who had quickly turned away from the Kozuki clan to welcome the traitor Orochi.

Among those hearts were those of the Hundred Beasts Kaido Crew that hadn't been bewitched. Indeed, a rumor ran that almost half of the dragon's henchmen had turned against him all of a sudden as if by magic. Thus the people of the country of Wa feared the arrival of a sorcerer among them, the fruits of the devil not being common in the eyes of the villagers. But there were also those of certain families or business partners who would lose a lot as a result of the change of shogun.

Of course, all these people had quickly been thrown into the various prisons in the country, and one of them was the most secure because the head of the red sheaths, Kinemon, had decided to put all the Tobiroppo there. It had been a difficult choice to make because if they attempted a rebellion despite their marine granite handcuffs, without the help of the pirates they would be difficult to hold them back. But if they were dispersed in six prisons, it would take six times as much surveillance. Thus had been chosen the first case.

And then, there was in Wano Kuni a girl, a child, who could put them at her feet very quickly. Soon a judgment would therefore take place on the question of the Tobiroppo and whether they were released on the condition of eating a Dango every month.

But right now, there was at the entrance of one of the prisons, the one containing the six monsters, a young woman approaching.

- Stop. This entry is prohibited. Please return to the festivities miss.

- I was specially authorized by Kin'emon-sama to enter. You can ask him later. Don't disturb him while he's having fun.

So the guardsmen let her in. After several minutes of walking and searching through the prison, the woman arrived at her destination. The door she was looking for was isolated from everything. To tell the truth, there were in the circle of the prison six cages at the end and they were each distanced by ten meters.

The youngster looked through the bars at the one she was looking for, letting her eyes darken and sadden at the vision she had. In front of her was her ex-boyfriend, his hands and feet shackled, an old prisoner's cloth on him, and above all, without really suitable care for his injuries.

Looking to her right then to her left, she subtly took a key out of her pocket, a click sounded, and she opened the marine granite door delicately. Already she had lied saying she was allowed to go back, if in addition she was caught in the act she was screwed, although her goal was not to deliver the man.

Hearing the noise caused by the door, the man with the horns raised his head. He quickly widened his eyes at the figure in front of him.

- Y/n... What are you doing here? If we find you here you will quickly have your place in the prison next door.

- You haven't lost your humor, I see. sneered the woman. I just want to hear from my dear ex-boyfriend.

- If you came to make fun of me, you can leave. He bared his fangs, barely hidden by the lack of bandages.

The woman sighed. They finally saw each other again, although their break which wasn't very big, and here they are already bickering.

- Pay-tan... I missed you.

- ...it's you...I missed you.

Faced with the weakness of her ex-boyfriend, she let out a tear. Then two. Then others. The two had parted so fiercely as they overflowed with love for each other. Only, their ideas on the country of Wano Kuni diverged and that had got the better of them.

She took a few steps to join him, crouched down to be at his height, and tenderly kissed the lid of his eye that he had to keep closed because of a big blow. Then she kissed the top of his cheek, under which she heard a small growl, to then join the corner of his lips, which again were hardly bandaged.

- ... stopped.

- Page... You know I like that mouth with its little pointy teeth.

She resumed what she was doing, but before approaching her soft lips for the last time, she looked into the prisoner's eyes. She saw that glow there, the one he only had with her. So fortunately, she places her lips on those still bloody of the man. He joined in this kiss as soon as calmer, the woman having understood that his jaw was dislocated, and took advantage of the sweet exchange.

Once separated, the intruder stood on the legs of the man he bent cross-legged, and let his head rest against the neck of his little dinosaur.

- I have the impression that you're in bad shape every time we see each other again, she sneered.

- It is not my fault. He growled softly his nose before letting out a small squeal of pain. Why did you come to see me? He said after a moment.

- I thought we could hold back. You know, the two of us... If Kaido is gone, we can more easily avoid this annoying subject.

She received no response. Page One seemed to be thinking. She didn't know it, but as soon as he saw her coming, the sense of loss he felt took over his loyalty to Kaido.

- I'm stuck here anyway. Unless you get a pass, he huffed.

- You will be judged in a few days. I will plead for you. You won't eat that damn Dango that makes you lose your personality.

She frowned against this means to calm the beasts, certainly it had helped win the war, but she did not take the risk of having nothing but wrong with her boyfriend. Finally, were they a couple again? He seems to read her thoughts.

- I love you Y/n. I won't let you go this time. He finished by tightening his grip around the belly of the woman in his arms who felt her heart beating like a few months ago.

a/n: Hanna Emerald and precious Hanna are different ok.

Summary:when the selection of the soldier started, akino Registered Hanna as one of the soldiers who will participate.

"thank you akino" Hanna said to akino.

akino patted Hanna's head, "Good luck" he said, Hanna walked away and enter the hall for the selection.

A few minutes later the speaker for the event spoke, and tell everyone to line up and prepare for the up coming selection.

"Each one of you will be given a sword, and you will fight for the position" each one of the participants picked up a swords, "I'm going to win" Hanna said to herself.

"let the selection of the soldiers begin!!!"

The event started and each one of them start fighting.

Hanna looked around and observe, "Oi!" One the participants called Hanna, "he is looked like weak, hehehe" one of the participants attacked Hanna and start fighting.

While they were fighting, Hanna suddenly fall down into the ground, "ah" Hanna cried out from pain, "No" akino said while watching, the participants point the sword into Hanna, "your over" Hanna stood up, and grab the participants arm, "ahhh!!" The participants shouted from pain.

"stop!!!" Everyone looked at the speaker, "master kaido is coming!!!" Everyone slowly lowered their heads, but Hanna didn't, akino got nervous at that time, "you!!!" The speaker called out Hanna, Hanna looked at the speaker, "bow!" Hanna slowly lowered her head.

"is this the new soldiers" a deep voice spoked up, "not yet my lord" the speaker said, "You may begin! The speaker said, "who is that guy with a white hair?" Kaido asked the speaker, "umm her name is Makimoto shin" kaido looked at Hanna, and at the same time Hanna locked her looked to kaido.

When suddenly the participants attack Hanna, Hanna dodge it kick all theirs butts, "I am going to win"

After the fight, hundred of the selection passed and of course Hanna, "You are the new soldiers of the onigashima and beast pirates!" Everyone gone wild and happy, but still Kaido's attention is still on Hanna.

After the event the whole island of onigashima celebrate for the new soldiers. Everyone was laughing, telling stories of their lives, "Hanna.. I mean shin, drink up!" Akino offered Hanna a liquor, "I don't drink, I'm sorry" akino smiled at Hanna before he hugged her, "don't be silly!"Hana giggled that made akino Blushed, "Im sorry akino-san but I'm not drinking" while they were talking kaido stood up and called out Hanna.

"Makimoto shin!" Hanna stood up, and looked at kaido, "come here and have a drink with me" Hanna didn't moved a muscle, "I'm sorry master but I'm not drinking" everyone got shocked, when Hanna rejected the offer of the leader, "hahahahahahaha!!!" Kaido start laughing so loud, that made everyone laughed at her.

"a who didn't drink is coward" Hanna looked straight at Kaido's eyes, "a leader that doesn't respect his soldiers opinion will never be called leadership" after that Hanna leave the room, and kaido leave speechless at that time.

"he is good" kaido said while smiling.

Akino got worried at Hanna.

after that hanna went home into Akino's house where she lives and there she rested. "I promise mother I will avenge you" after that day hanna served as a soldier of onigashima.

Kaido is shown to be too strong to die. However, his introductory chapter brings about somewhat of a controversy: at face value he wants to die so badly he is willing to kill himself but this is a falsehood.

With the exception of Shanks who is still alive, those in Kaido’s pantheon are all those who have been so strong of body and will that they chose their way of death. In his introduction he is actively jealous of Whitebeard for having died.

One Piece Chapter 1047 - Initial Thoughts

And we're back again at last

I'm sure we all had a good Easter and long weekend, but now it's One Piece time

Onigashima is apparently about to fall, so we'll see if the end of the battle will come soon too

Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release too

A nice colour spread for this one, hanging in the beach with Momo. Luffy may need to watch his hands though and Jimbei better watch out for tan lines XD I do have a slight worry that Zoro is kept so far away though, almost like Oda's hiding something...but I could just be paranoid

We start with Yamato and Momo again as the former tries to encourage our dragon boy, but his frustration and defeatism prompts a flashback

Back at Oden Castle ablaze we see Momo of course reluctant to part with his mother, but it's Kin'emon who steps up to try and convince him. I do appreciate though that Momo acknowledges he's a kid, he's not bound by the ideology of the Samurai

But Kin'emon's desire to go out swinging is what changes Momo's mind, which really does show why the two are closer than Momo and the other samurai

Being reminded of this stance and this being one of the last interactions with his mother does give Momo the drive to keep trying

Again though, how has the Capital not seen this island in the sky exploding with lightning and dragonfire?

Speaking of Lightning, even Kaido is showing bafflement at Luffy grabbing lightning

Boy is so happy though pulling a Zeus (mythology not the homie)

Kaido though is serious, dodging the lightning and smacking Luffy around, reminding him that having a strong DF isn't enough to reach the top

I guess that counts as official confirmation that Roger never had a DF, he was just that good with Haki

A new Thunder Bagua variant sends Luffy flying and seeing birds, but he's still grabbing Kaido by the scruff of his chest

Unable to pull him off, Kaido turns to his dragon form to assault Luffy with projectiles

The Flower Capital meanwhile are releasing the fire lanterns, which I still feel like is gonna play a role in the climax for either Momo or Luffy

Luffy meanwhile is being fried by Blast Breaths as Kaido still tries to bring Luffy down

The inside of Onigashima is tilting though, the waters having not reached certain areas yet

Hyou and the Samurai though, as much as I liked Usopp's bashing of their desire to die honourably rather than live on I did love the interaction where they accepted their fate, happy to die if it means Kaido is defeated and their families can live on

Not a sentiment shared by Kaido's forces though, Kid seems surprised too

Usopp meanwhile gets washed by the water finally, but it seems to have washed Kiku and Kin'emon off of Hamlet

As I expected, Orochi's not done yet, the nail got loose and now he's a flaming version of his Zoan form, this is why you confirm the kill Hiyori!

Be a good time for Denjiro to show up though...

Luffy though has brought out the bug guns: a Giant Haki-laced fist

He's ready to finish things but Onigashima is in the way, so Momo needs to move it now, having Luffy's encouragement to will him on

Well, unsurprisingly it's another great chapter. A lot of build towards Momo having his moment as well, so the stage is set for him to step up. Hiyori meanwhile I'm a little let down that she doesn't just kill Orochi but we'll see how it plays out, I think more of my annoyance is the cockroach clan continuing to be cockroaches XD

I am still thinking a 1050 finale to the fight, but that does mean I'm doubting the success of the giant fist.
