MEET THE CREATORS: WEEK 1
Part 1/? of a weekly series where TORVIXT.NET highlights those who champion our cause!
Interested in being featured? Partner with Torvixt.
This week, we’re featuring our founder, Hunter.
Tumblr media
ABOUT HER
Hunter Linar has always been fascinated by storms. Her passion for weather sparked when she was in 1st grade, living in Oklahoma City, OK, U.S., watching meteorologist Rick Mitchell cover incoming severe thunderstorms. When a tornado whirled past just outside of town, she vividly remembers her parents and their friends standing on the balcony of their apartment to watch the clouds, and still wishes she could have stood with them. That yearning followed her into college, where she briefly studied Meteorology before ultimately graduating with a degree in Creative Writing and Sociology.
Hunter is also passionate about art. She’s always loved drawing, and when she received her first Wacom tablet in 6th grade, she became an unstoppable force. The tablet pen is her sword; other weapons in her arsenal include pencils, paintbrushes, and a crochet hook.
When Hunter isn’t making visual or fiber art, she’s writing. She published her first novel in high school, and is working on revising a second edition. Three more novels - ranging in genre from historical fiction, to thriller, to science fiction - are in the works. She hopes to publish a poetry chapbook one day.
We asked Hunter what made her want to start Torvixt. Here’s what she said:
“Honestly, my soul’s dream is to see a tornado up-close and personal. That hasn’t happened yet, but I continue to watch livestreams from storm chasers intercepting tornadoes in real time, which gives me a kind of vicarious thrill. I’ve downloaded tons of radar apps. They’re always open on my phone and laptop. I’m sure my friends and family think I’m a nut, but what really inspired me to start Torvixt, to really devote most of my time to building it, was what I see after the storm has passed. Tons of people lose everything. They’re terrified, and some of what you see is just heartbreaking. I want to help. If I can’t be there in person to do so, we have this crazy amazing thing called the Internet. And, since I also sell my art, I thought, why not get my work out there, and make amazing things for people, while sending the money to people who really need it? And so Torvixt was born.”
We then asked what Hunter wants Torvixt to accomplish.
“I’ve started a complicated thing. It’s not right now, because it’s still very small and underground, but it might be, once it grows, which I really hope it does. My ultimate goal for Torvixt is to raise awareness that there is a lot left to be done to help people prepare, and heal from, these really intense weather events that alter people’s lives. I also want to help creators. Artists, writers, editors...people that aren’t on the map, but should be. It’s really difficult to get your name out there in the creative world. I want Torvixt to be a megaphone, if that makes sense. Put in, amplify, and spread the word wide. Like a siren.”
Torvixt asked Hunter where people can find her work and hire her.
“I’m kind of everywhere. The best way to view my portfolio, though, is to visit my website. That has everything you need to know in terms of pricing, and how to contact me.”
TORVIXT.NET is a nonprofit effort where creators can advertise their work, sell products, and donate their proceeds directly to storm victims. Its website and social media accounts are 100% volunteer-run. Partner with TORVIXT.NET as a creator, or volunteer to help us grow, by visiting our website or e-mailing [email protected].

Theatre of Tragedy - A distance there is •fan video edit •Fernando Linares-Correa •clips: Vampire Hunter D
Come in out of the rain thou sayest -
But thou ne'er step'st aside;
And I am trapp'd -
A distance there is...
None, save me and the bodkin - pitter-patter on the roof:
Behold! - 'tis not the rain; thence me it has to be -
I will not drink thy vintage wine, my dear;
Thou hast heed'd that I am of innocence, yet thou let'st thy lass into peril -
Thou let'st me be parched;
My heart is of frailty, my pale skin is hued damask.
When thou thy tears hast hidden, "Come back!", thou sayest -
There I soon am to be - but how am I to run when my bones, my heart!
Thou hast me bereaft? -
But run thou sayest; I run -
And there and then I behold that a time will come when I again dead will be.
Thou tell'st me to leave without delay -
I leave with my bodkin and my tears in my hands;
Lo! - the shadows, the sky - descending;
So by a dint of smite I gait ere I run and melt together with dusk.
In my mind in which is this event,
But it seems as if naught is to change anyway?
After all these years thou left'st me down in the emotional depths -
The sombre soaked velvet-drape is hung upon me,
Turning my feelings away from our so ignorant world:
All the beautiful moments shared, deliberatlely push'd aside -
...a distance there is...

"Salt" for Lin and Minaeve!
Thanks for the prompt, @ma-sulevin ♥
For @dadrunkwriting
Salt
Linarel had been practicing by the docks near dead Master Teigan’s hut when she first encountered the creature researcher.
“That’s a Dalish technique, isn’t it?” the quiet young woman had asked.
It had made her pucker up, like the time when she accidentally tasted Fravun’s brine solution, the one he made for tanning.
“Yes,” she’d replied, then walked away.
But the question, as innocent as it had been, had brought up memories of a past Linarel tried her best to bury. Three nights in a row she woke from nightmares, gasping and clutching her face, seeking solace in the grooves of the scars that adorned her skin.
She hated those dreams, the ones that made her feel like she was not good enough. They sent her back to that place, that time, when she was helpless and worthless and weak, and she was none of them, not any more. The lingering fear turned to anger, anger that a simple question from an equally simple woman had returned her to this pitiful state.
She would not allow it.
The creature researcher was tinkering away in the small room that served as her workshop, hunched over the table, the sharp edge of the blade in her hand glinting in the copious firelight.
“How did you know it was Dalish?” she asked, somewhat spitefully amused as the other woman gasped and dropped her knife.
“What?” Minaeve stared at her.
“The other day, when I was practicing. You knew it was Dalish. How?”
Minaeve’s face was blank, but Lin could see the embers of unpleasant memories glow in the depths of her eyes. That was unexpected. And surprising. The creature researcher had always projected an image of plain and boring. Now it seemed as though she had secrets of her own.
Minaeve turned away, and carefully set aside what she’d been working on. It took several moments, but Lin was nothing if patient.
“I was born Dalish,” Minaeve said quietly, her back still to Lin.
“But you said you were an apprentice at a Circle?”
The short haired woman’s jaw was clenched tightly when she faced Lin again. “I was a mage. The Keeper was concerned that there were too many of us. Too much magic, she said, would draw the attention of the humans. So she made a pack for me, and sent me off into the woods by myself. I was seven.”
Her heart clenched, not with pity - though she felt plenty of it - but with rage. A Keeper was supposed to be kind. A mage in the clan was a precious gift, and would never be cast aside. That Minaeve’s Keeper had done so - and to a child at that - was unforgivable.
Then the realization that here, too, was another Dalish outcast took over, and she wanted to laugh. To find another kindred spirit in the middle of nowhere, under the strangest of conditions - clearly, Fen’harel had a sense of humor.
“My clan exiled me,” she offered when the other woman fell silent. “I would have been a Hunter. They accused me of blasphemy and cast me out.”
Minaeve had shrugged on her coat. “I need a drink,” she stated, quite bluntly.
“Me too.”
Two Dalish outcasts who held little love for the Dalish. Two women who, despite all circumstances, remained as fiercely independent as they were able. Two women with bitter pasts, and brackish memories.
So Linarely found it strange when she kissed the creature researcher in the doorway of that briny workshop, that Minaeve’s lips tasted so very sweet.

I've been a fan of the Swedish magazine OEI for the past many years, so it's a special pleasure to find myself included in an issue. Each issue is a humongous treasure torve of visual and text based work bursting with everything from unfamiliar contemporary artist to rare historical materials that are difficult to find. An often used series of double and triple volumes that take up several meters of shelving in my home. And now I'm so happy that, with the help of mathias Kokholm, I have managed to sneak a few pages into "OEI #94-95: geografer" based on the djurs archipelago project. Nästa nummer av OEI, #94-95, är ett 464-sidigt nummer om geografier som utkommer i början av mars. Sara solves one of her cases, but another baby is lost. John, Sara, and Laszlo’s lives get more complicated as they pursue Libby.
Spoilers
Clare Kilner directed The Alienist: Angel of Darkness Season Two Episode Five “Belly of the Beast.” Episode Six ” Memento Mori” is directed by David Caffrey. Libby escapes capture, Sara Howard finds baby Anna Linares. Libby kidnaps the Vanderbilt baby boy in the middle of the park, and Sara is hired to find the child. John Schuyler Moore feels romantically split between his work partner turned lover Sara Howard and his fiancé Violet Hayward who wants more of his attention. Dr. Laszlo Kreizler’s medical license is suspended after he finds one of his charges, Pauly hanging from noose in his office. Thankfully Laszlo saves the boy’s life, but now the institute is closed. The gangster Goo Goo Knox is dating Libby, so he will do anything to protect her.
One of the more engaging parts of these two episodes is the exploration of Libby’s dangerous psyche because this is the first time, we see her revealing her true self on screen. We learn that she has been drinking a small amount of poison each day, then eating charcoal to render her breast milk safe. Libby stops eating charcoal, meaning she is preparing to murder Anna.
As she is drinking her daily dose of poison, Anna starts crying. Libby muses that only cats and babies mewl. She says maybe the baby is a cat. Libby is starting to dehumanize the baby so she can kill her. When the nurse starts breastfeeding, Libby tells the “little cat” that she will never forget her. She remembers all “her babies.” There are close-up shots of photos of dead babies with eyes drawn on their eyelids—trophies of all her victims. Sara and Laszlo muse that Libby murders the babies when they grow older than her dead child, perhaps Anna has outgrown her purpose.
Sara Howard goes on a feminist journey throughout ” Belly of the Beast” and “Memento Mori.” First, in “Belly of the Beast,” Libby breaks into the private detective office to seal Sara’s father’s rifle. John cajoles Sara into staying in his apartment for her safety, but she refuses to remain hidden until they find Libby. She is a strong independent woman who doesn’t need anybody’s protection, especially since this is her case. Sara and Libby are in a cat and mouse game.
Sara sneaks down to Goo Goo Knox’s territory, where she finds Libby breastfeeding her gangster boyfriend. Knox drinking her breast milk raises a question for me. If Libby poisons her breast milk, then how is Knox not dead yet?
Sara follows Libby to an apartment where the two fight for the stolen gun. Thankfully, Sara wrestles the gun away from the murder but cannot stop her from running away. She finds baby Anna in a drawer just before John comes running in after hearing Sara went to track Libby in the sketchy part of New York.  Sara is the only one of the team who faces Libby straight on.
At the end of ” Belly of the Beast,” the team returns Anna to the happy Linares family. Sara and John retire to his apartment. He congratulates his friend on finding the baby girl on her own, but Sara is hard on herself because she did not capture Libby. John has been attracted to Sara’s independence, intelligence, and strength for a long time. John tells Sara that he loves her. After witnessing the love inside the Linares family home, Sara can finally hear John’s affection in a positive light.  The couple makes love in the guest room. For a long time, Sara saw marriage as a trap that would force her to conform to societal rules of femininity. She finally understands that John loves her, but still respects her as a detective.
” Memento Mori” starts with Sara shutting down any discussion of their night together because of John’s engagement to Violet. Violet sees her fiancé’s love for Sara and is delighted when her father publishes a scandalous article about the other woman. The article mentions Howard’s brutish “masculine” detective techniques. Hearst calls Sara out of letting Libby escape even though she saved Anna. He hopes that writing about her “unnatural” behavior as a working woman will lead to the socialite’s business failing. The opposite happens, the publicity from the article leads to Sara’s detective agency booming with case requests.
Cornelius Vanderbilt hires Sara to find his kidnapped grandson. Sara, John, and Laszlo track down the apartment where Libby kept Anna and the Knapp’s baby. The apartment is full of cribs and trophies, such as hairbrushes and jewelry chests with the Linares’ family crest and the Vanderbilt family crest. Libby watches wealthy families for a long time before stealing the babies. The team knows that the jewelry chest with the Vanderbilt crest means she is about to kidnap a new baby. Sara and the team try to discover which Vanderbilt owns this particular jewelry chest, but they don’t figure out which one until after the baby boy is kidnapped. Because of success one of the most powerful men in New York trusts a woman detective to find his baby grandson during a time when women of her social standing are meant to stay quiet.
Sara and Libby have an unspoken connection because both their fathers committed suicide. When the team finds out Libby’s name is an alias, they try to find out who she really is. Sara recollects that Libby’s vulnerability made her feel comfortable enough to share that her father shot himself in the head with a rifle. Then Libby revealed to Sara that her father hung himself from the Brooklyn bridge. They look through newspapers to find an article about a man who hung himself from that particular bridge. They find out her real name is Elspeth Hunter. John and Sara believe that Libby is hiding from the NYPD in Brooklyn, where they now know she is raised.
The episode ends with Libby, the baby boy, and Goo Goo Knox sleeping on a roof facing the Brooklyn bridge. If anybody can bring Libby to justice, it is Sara, who, instead of letting the trauma of her father’s death corrupt her mind, became mentally tougher after the loss.
