It has been a good long while since I've last drawn my Hunter from Destiny. But, hey, better late than never, I guess? Idk

Her name is Ace, and she is a blind Awoken. She has a whole back story that I wrote back when i first started to draw her *cough* middle school *cough*! But, she has a special place in my heart regardless.

So, this may be lost in the ether of this website, but on the off chance… I’m curious for thoughts.

One of the game I play is Destiny 2, and I’m currently going through the Season of the Haunted. I am a Hunter Main, just from the amount I play just as a Hunter in the game. I’ll admit, I was late to the Destiny party, and was introduced to it by my friend.

With this season being focused on Nightmares again, which was something we encountered as players with Shadowkeep, and working with Crow and Zavala in combating them, with Empress Caiatl to come based on what I’ve played through in the Season so far. I’ve noticed the themes as well, based on playing the missions and with looking at one of the Triumphs that has you looking for items in each ‘Sever’ activity that the three themes revolve around emotions: shame for Crow, grief for Zavala and anger for Caiatl (again, based on titles listed in the triumph), along with the healing counterparts of reconciliation (Crow), forgiveness (Zavala) and resolution (Caiatl). You, as a Guardian, are fighting enemies and taking part in fighting back with these NPC’s, and getting a chance to see sides we never would have seen before.

Well…. It got me thinking. What if we, the player Guardian, could have a moment where we are having to face our own Nightmare, with other’s helping us fight? And I mean have one mission where we are allowed to fail, with the follow up mission being a win like we’ve done so far. What would your Guardian’s Nightmare be? I’ll start.

As I said, I play a Hunter main, and I have played all the expansions that have been released for Destiny 2, with periods away from the game. My Hunter is a female Awoken as well. And if she were to have a Nightmare version to combat and I could choose, I would choose a Nightmare version of Cayde-6. I say this because 1) he was my favorite NPC of the game so far, with characters coming close after him, 2) I’d love to see him be twisted in the way Nightmares are, and 3) I think it would also bring closure to a lot of NPC’s and me as a player. The emotion being tackled with this would be Fear, as least in my head and for my Hunter. With Forsaken and the events in it, I could see my Hunter being afraid of failing again. Of losing a close friend and mentor like she lost Cayde-6 and not being able to do anything. Of being too late to do anything good, and just be dealing with the aftermath of failing. I could also see it hitting some of the themes we see playing for other NPC’s, but I think the driving force of the Nightmare journey for my Hunter would be fear. I could see a Nightmare Cayde-6 absolutely digging into it, with NPC’s like Crow especially, and Zavala, being the ones to support her and help her succeed. During this season, with the missions we’ve done, we’ve seen some NPC’s be vulnerable and let us see them be so with the available missions released so far. I think the same should be done for our characters and help us be more in tuned with the world of Destiny 2.
