hii~ i really liked your music headcanons for the obey me brothers :))
would you mind doing them for the side characters too?
Hi Anon, thank you so much! Means a lot (>_<)
Yes I can, hope these are okay!
Tumblr media
Obey me side character music headcanons under the cut! (^O^)~☆♪
Includes general music headcanons + examples of artists and songs!
Tumblr media
Diavolo
Similar to Lucifer in that he listens to classical music while working.
Also enjoys piano/orchestral covers.
When he isn’t working, he loves pop! Learns the lyrics, and enjoys karaoke nights. (Also would learn some J/K-pop songs and dances for fun too).
Prefers songs with no/simpler lyrics, likes to zone out listening to pop songs to relax. (〃ω〃)
Example artists:
Wolfgang Mozart, MIKA, Hatsune Miku, ITZY.
Example songs:
World is Mine (ryo supercell, Hatsune Miku), Requiem in D Minor (Mozart), RUN2U (StayC), Walking on Sunshine (Katrina and the Waves).
Tumblr media
Barbatos
Listens to soundtracks/no word music while he works! (Whistles too~)
Probably also listens to podcasts about devildom/human world news while he’s cleaning
Might not listen to much music in general, but would play classical or simple songs to relax to.
However is happy to listen to whatever Lord Diavolo or MC are playing (^_^)
Example artists:
Will Wood, Eric Barone (ConcernedApe), Howard Shore, BBC World Service Podcast + Devildom equivalent
Example songs:
Momento Mori (Will Wood), Dance of the Moonlight Jellies (ConcernedApe), Drift Away omnichord (trillian), Lacrimosa (Mozart).
Tumblr media
Simeon
Listens to religious music, likes to sing hymns with Luke.
Listens to songs that he relates to, specifically his religious trauma
Also enjoys some classic pop songs, or upbeat J/K-pop.
Likes happy songs with upbeat lyrics, or songs that help represent his emotions. (>人<)
Example artists:
Hozier, Katy Perry, GFRIEND, Michael Jackson.
Example songs:
Lord of the Dance (the Dubliners), Take me to Church (Hozier), The Judge (twenty one pilots), Dandelions (Ruth B.)
Tumblr media
Luke
Listens to a lot of religious music, especially those songs kids sing in primary school.
Doesn’t know many modern songs so asks MC for recommendations. Then learns the songs and sings with you.
Learns about J/K-pop and really likes the songs! Loves learning dances with MC/Levi.
Does like happy songs and lyrics. Music easily controls his mood and he wants to be happy ٩( 'ω' )و
Example artists:
Loona, Owl City, More More Jump, Naeyon.
Example songs:
Flamingo (Kero Kero Bonito), Drop Pop Candy (Reol, Giga), Hula Hoop (loona), Exploration (Bruno Coulais).
Tumblr media
Solomon
Probably doesn’t know much modern music unless MC or someone shows him any.
Would have records of old songs, and tries to find digital versions for convenience.
Would not be very open about the music he listens to, as the songs could be in ancient languages that people wouldn’t understand.
Cares more for the lyrics in the songs more so than the general sound of it. ʅ(◞‿◟)ʃ
Example artists:
Mother Mother, Boney M.
For the ancient songs, I don’t know of many artists, sorry about that.
Example songs:
Verbatim (Mother Mother), Hurrian Hymn No. 6, Song of Seikilos (Gregorio Paniagua), Song of the Sirens
For the last three songs, please search on YouTube :)
Bonus:
The side characters here would also listen to any song MC recommends! They would also try to impress you by learning the words ><
Bonus bonus scenario: karaoke night, singing your favourite songs with everyone :D
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for reading! I Hope you enjoyed, feel free to tell me what you think of these headcanons! Also, let me know if you have any ideas/suggestions (╹◡╹)♡

I think it would have been funnier if Apollo just had, like, the most bonkers taste in music due to being a god of music and being around for millennia, like he puts on his playlist and the first song is hurrian hymn no. 6, the next song is a theme song for some obscure tv show from decades ago, then it’s the fucking nokia jingle from the early 2000s, so on and so forth

To find the oldest known complete song, you need look back just 3,400 years. Composed of lyrics, musical notation and tuning instructions for a Babylonian lyre carved into a clay tablet, it is called Hymn to Nikkal, or Hurrian Hymn No 6. Archaeologists found it in the early 1950s – alongside almost three dozen other, incomplete, Hurrian hymns – during an excavation at the Royal Palace of Ugarit in what is now northern Syria.

⚘☽☽☽ 𝕄𝕦𝕤𝕚𝕔 𝕄𝕒𝕘𝕚𝕔 𝕡𝕒𝕣𝕥 𝟛 ☾☾☾⚘
⚘☽ Divination ☾⚘
One of the things that you can do with music is divination. The most commonly known form involving music is known as shufflemancy. Shufflemancy in this context is divination by use of songs, melodies, etc., in the form of a playlist. It is not a widely used form of divination, and it is also not an ancient form either, as it uses technology. So how do you do shufflemancy? Well first, you will need a playlist - keep in mind that you control this playlist, it is yours and you control what goes in and out of it. Once you get your playlist, you will want to choose a question (best to stay away from yes/no questions). Then you will want to pick a number. This can be a number between 1 and 10, 1 and 100, really any number between 1 and x number. For this scenario let's go with the number 6. Keeping in mind the question you want answered, you shuffle the number of times you picked, in this case I chose 6, so I would shuffle the playlist 6 times. Whatever song it lands on in the last shuffle will be the song that you will need to interpret for your question. Keep in mind that you will most likely want to listen to the entire song for the answer to your question - the title of the song might not be the whole message. Sometimes it’s not the entire song, but certain parts of the lyrics, like the main chorus of a song. It’s not just the song that needs to be interpreted, but also the feelings that the song invokes as well - if it makes you happy, upset, frustrated, etc.
⚘☽ Cleansing & Banishing ☾⚘
Music can be used to cleanse and banish anything unwanted from your space. This can be done in a number of ways, keeping in mind that banishing is a more aggressive side of cleansing. For either one you can use just about any music you wish, the goal is to annoy the unwanted so much it drives them nuts and out of your house. For example, playing a 10 hour long youtube video of baby shark at top volume with your phone hooked to some speakers, or better yet your tv if you're able. You want to play something that the entity won’t like, so if the entity happens to like baby sharks then I guess you’ll want to consider something else. Another thing to maybe try here is bells. Bells are an amazing way of banishing an entity, whether you are just ringing the bell back and forth with no rhyme or reason, or you are playing a song on the bells. No matter the method you use, you want to make it as loud and as obnoxious as possible.
⚘☽ Meditation ☾⚘
Meditation helps with the lowering of blood pressure, heart rate, etc. In order to peacefully meditate, you have to be able to lower your blood pressure and heart rate, and even out your breathing, along with easing your muscles. Music has been proven in studies to help with this! Well, what kind of music is best for mediation? It really depends on the person, but usually you would want something on the calmer side - maybe something instrumental, or with a slower tune in the background to help calm the mind. Keep in mind that your idea of what music is calming is NOT going to be the same as another person's idea of what is calming music. A side note here: When you type in youtube for relaxation music, most of those videos claiming to help sleep, and relax, and meditate are a load of crap - but not all of them are, and there are some really good ones out there! You have to find what is right for you.
⚘☽ Offerings ☾⚘
Music can be used as an offering to Gods or other beings. You can make the music yourself, or pick a song that you feel fits the situation. There are a few popular examples of music as offerings. Priests in Catholic churches often sing their prayers when they can. Anytime a congregation sings a hymn, it can be seen as a form of prayer. In reference to the intro to music, The Hurrian Hymns were made as an offering to the Goddess Nikkal-wa-lb. You can offer music to any God or other being.
⚘☽ Manifestation ☾⚘
This was a particularly fun wormhole to fall down, but according to what I have read so far, music can help with manifesting. This is because music amplifies our feelings and moods, and strengthens our vibrations and energies. This higher energies help to attract things you are wanting to attract. Certain songs can attract different things. For example, affirming songs can manifest positivity, luck, etc.
⚘☽ Mood & Motivation ☾⚘
Many people use music to boost or lower their mood, or motivate themselves. This applies to the youngest children still in the womb to grown adults to elderly people on their deathbed. We see little kids in daycare, singing the “clean up” song to motivate them to clean up the room they are in. We see people using music to motivate themselves out of bad moods, whether it helps them to be more productive at work, or drag themselves out of a depressive episode. We see people playing their loved one’s favorite music before they pass away, as the sense of hearing is many times the last one to go, and it makes the ill patient happy to hear their songs. Music calms the nervous system and lower cortisol levels which helps reduce stress and calm the mind. Listening to music that gives you chills or that you really, really enjoy releases dopamine. Listening to music that is sad can help to elevate mood, but some say it can be counteractive because it can also trigger depressive episodes.

*sighs* so mom undercooked the turkey. I had to cook it for an extra hour until it was ready. Such is the way of things. Mom doesn't cook very commonly so that explains the jank-ass turkey problem. Still sis ate an undercooked turkey leg so. Yeah. She just does things like that. She seems alright I'm just worried is all. It wasn't too badly off but she needs to be more careful! She also got me a squishmallow as a gift on Thanksgiving. I do not want one. I have too many plush things and they get lost. :/ I appreciate the thought but.. I really would rather she keep this. Also black Friday two electric boogaloo: the squeakuel. Night shift has this draw back. Hurrian Hymn no.6 is the world's oldest known melody.
NOOO at least it was fixed.... better than the weird dry-ass turkey leg that was more skin-and-tendon than meat I had nndjfnsnfn
Fjdbfjdbjf I've never been super big on Black Friday stuff, I don't buy things all that often. BUT we were able to get a deal on Cirque du Soleil tickets today so that's fun!!!
Splattack from Splatoon 1!!! The BEST and most iconic song in the entire series imo. Idc how squeaky the vocals are it SLAPS

Why do melodies bring us out our feelings?
Songs are perceived emotionally by our senses through melody and harmony. Melody is the part of a song that gets wrapped in your brain after listening to it. Rhythm is what sets the tone of a melody. Melody consists of a pitch or the sequence of sounds arranged as a series of notes and duration of each one of the notes on such sequence of notes (1). Harmony progression is how notes are combined simultaneously in a melody. Minor chords are used to provide low emotions and major chords usually convey happiness and optimism. Dissonant harmonies introduce tension and consonant harmonies stability and resolution. These progressions are modulated by music dynamics such as crescendos (growing intensity) and decrescendos (decreasing intensity) on each piece, emphasizing key moments.
The first known melody is dated on 1400 B.C and was discovered on a clay tablet in Syria (1).  It is called “Hurrian Hymn No.6” (2). In prehistory, humans mimicked sunrises and sunsets as they perceived them in nature, connecting with their inner being and nature. Melodies are a result of mirroring and mimicking our environment and ambient. This is also known as emotional resonance (3). Since our brains recognize better a repeated pattern than a new one, earworms become a successful element inside a melody. Notes combination, predictability and repetition on melodies composition makes our brain recognise as familiar (9) due to its structure and harmony.
Music is a universal language, like Mathematics. Rhythm and the way notes are combined is what produce a melody of one type or another. Melodies, spoken language and time perception of sound, are processed differently on each hemisphere, speaking processing happens in the left and melodic processing on the right auditory cortex (4). We have in common the shape and composition as human beings (senses to perceive the ambient when it comes to feel music and listen to another person speaking for instance), therefore, we share the same scale of feelings (perception varies on each one of us since our background and evolution are different). A Melody can shake and make shiver any human across the globe, jumping over any barrier we attempt to put in between us.
Rhythms have to do with timing, and how a same structure of chords and notes can seem so different, even if we compare the “ingredients” of two melodies and as a result we see they seem to be equal at first sight but they don´t sound the same when heard because “the way they are mixed down” is different. Rhythm is the heartbeat of a melody, and it synchronizes with our heartbeats when we expose ourselves to a song. When we listen to a song we end up moving our body at that same beat. Synchronizing with rhythm and drumming has been used as an evolutive resource, to keep the social group together, strengthen bonds and improve chances of survival (4) since prehistory.
Music makes us feel good, can surprise us, helps us to appraise things and music itself, it is action intended. It helps us being synchronized with our feelings, evokes memories and realizes past emotions, connects us and promotes the use of our imagination. Fast beats and bright tones can make us motivate ourselves inducing more positive emotions and slow beats have the opposite effect on us. Rhythmic patterns evoke emotional responses on our brain and body. Tensions and releases created within rhythm disrupt the pattern of a melody, solving it after a number of compasses releasing the tension, providing a sense of pleasure in the brain when heard. We synchronize with notes, chords and beats; hence we are always exposed to connect with what we are listening to. We connect with melodies due to emotional resonance, when listening to a song, we release mirror neurons and emotional contagion takes place, making us to live that story while the song is playing as if it was our own story. Lyrics act as a storyteller, sharing a story about Love and Loss, a Bad Day, Happiness and Joy, Friendship, Personal Liberation, Life, the Magic of Minor or a World of Fantasy (5). Singing along to the melody you are listening to, makes us feeling like being part of that story for a while, activating our sense of happiness and feeling of being understood, making us feel relieved.
Lyrics also encourage our intellect with subliminal messages we encounter when we listen carefully to a composition. Spoken language elevates music higher bringing creativity to a half-hidden level that our brains identify as puzzles, and it does it expressing and meaning more than what we literally hear in a verse, a chorus, or a bridge within the song we are listening to. Songs send hidden messages we encounter when we mirror with what it´s telling us, being able to understand through our own experiences and resonating with those. Unexpected changes in melodies such as chord progression or key change brings us a feeling of surprise that intensifies our emotional response as listeners rewarding us with pleasure afterwards. This is why melodies are so engaging, they speak right to our heart and our brain through a language we can understand.
Melodies help us enhancing our memory unlocking “lost” memories of a past and good moment for instance, letting us have a better perception of what happened if that memory wasn´t a good experience and easing our perception of that moment. Music helps to have more quality of life and it helps to have a “better organized closet” up there our shoulders. The feeling of pleasure that our body experiment when listening to a calming and gentle melodies, triggers the production of “happy hormones” (6). Melodies can act as painkillers for chronic pain patients as well, easing the stress they experiment while suffering pain giving the brain and body a more than needed break, helping it to self-regulate better for a while and improving health in the middle and long term. The same logic works for healthcare providers, music can also relieve stress and making their daily work a bit better.
We can use music and melodies to perform a better activity (7). A runner may listen to more boosting melodies than dancers or chronic-pain patients, because the response of the endocrine system differs while listening to those different melodies, and so is our physical activity. Other more “unstructured, floaty and dreamy” melodies can be used to empower and boost creativity on artists or people who develop creative work. There are different types of components linked to positive emotions (8). Melodies can lift up your mood with brighter timbre keys or calm you down with more relaxed tunes, it brings us companion when feeling lonely with minor tones and cheering us up when we are feeling down with major tones.
This is how melodies connect with us and makes us connect among us. Music is live human history. A history of our experiences, the way we deal with them and how we progress in solving them. The common threads we use to share this information among us are melodies and songs. It is our choice with which type of thread we would like to be connected.
Thanks for smiling. Enjoy the sunset!
