In the Heart of the Night down in New Orleans!

This is a little video I made for #PaulCotton from the band #Poco. I had learned about him while I evacuated to the Florida Keys after #HurricaneIda struck. I had to shake off #HurricaneKatrina part 2 and so glad I made it to Key Largo and Key West. As I was leaving Key West to return to Tampa then to Metairie, #PirateRadio in Key West played this version of “Heart of the Night” and I had to call the radio station to find out more. Coincidentally the day I was in touch with a DJ there, I learned it was the anniversary of hurricane Irma that struck The Keys in 2017. The staff at the radio station were so nice to tell me about Paul Cotton as he had recently passed and his history with performing in Key West. We shared hurricane stories as I told them I was from New Orleans and they kindly emailed me an mp3 of the song. I thought it sounded so beautiful so I made this video to share with everyone. I’ve had no copyright infringement problems so it seems to be ok as the cd it was on was never told to me where to find it. Almost 100k views!!! This tune and “Crazy Love” are my 2 favorites from Poco. It is a great song about New Orleans and sorry the images were all downloaded from google searches as all weren’t in the best resolution. I wish I would have put a picture of the CCC MS bridge when the lyric about the River rising came on but oh well. I was trying to edit it fast and the rest is history!!! #RipPaulCotton

hey y’all. the situation in Louisiana and surrounding states is much, much worse than I anticipated when I made my last post. cities are underwater. I watched people beg for rescue on Twitter last night because 911’s lines were down and the heavy winds made it impossible for anyone to reach them by boat. New Orleans (the entire city, if not others) is going to be without power for a month at bare minimum. people all over the state will have no access to clean water, air conditioning, and countless other resources. southwest Louisiana is still struggling with these same conditions almost a year after Hurricane Laura’s passing, too, with little to no help from the government. if you can, please donate (be it money, water, food, clothes, or other resources) to the organizations I mentioned in my last post, or any others you find in the #HurricaneIda tag on Tumblr or Twitter. thank you again for your time, if you read this far. I might not be in synagogue but I am definitely psyched this Yom Kippur to have become an honorary member (by gift of a shirt) of Islamic Relief USA! I shared breakfast with their amazing Damage Assessment team members including Ali, Tiffany, Nassima, Sayheed, Ehab, Kayla and more every day. They worked hard, out in remote counties surveying miles and miles of homes and businesses leveled by strong winds and high water. We talked about what brings us together—the humanity of every individual we serve, even when we feel limited in our own capacities we are part of a team responding to Hurricane Ida, what has come before, and what is yet to. I say this shirt really works with my American Red Cross (Greater New York) vest, Magen David Adom Red Crystal hat (from when they deployed to help the USA in Hurricane Harvey), cowgirl boots, and rainbow mask in a Carnival Cruises parking garage as we disembarked from the ship we were staying aboard with the help of FEMA.
