DELINQUENT- JAEMIN X Y/N SOCIAL MEDIA AU {46}

"mark" donghyuck mumbles from his quite comfortable position, tucked in under his bed sheets, back facing mark, who's sat at his desk studying, his desk lamp being the only source of light in the small room.

"mhmm?" the older responds, eyes failing to leave his neatly written genetics notes.

"almost done?" donghyuck questions hopefully, rolling over in bed to face mark's back at his desk

"almost hyuck" mark chuckles lightly, messaging his temples in an attempt to rid himself of any stress.

"markkk" the younger whines, "you can't just deprive me of attention like this"

"hyuckie come onnn" mark giggles, "i have to study, exams are just around the corner, i'll be done soon i swear"

"i didn't want to do this" donghyuck sighs, getting out of the comfort of his bed and walking over to mark, carefully removing his glasses that donghyuck finds ever so cute, before picking the older boy up from the desk and dragging him over to donghyuck's bed, earning an array of complaints from the older.

"HYUCK" mark whines as the younger boy places him into his bed, before joining him, wrapping his arms around his figure. "i told you i'd be finished soon, you could have at least let me finish first before dragging me for cuddles"

"i could have" donghyuck sighs, nuzzling into marks neck, "but i wanted cuddles right now, plus you've been working yourself way too hard silly" the boy starts, running his hand through mark's hair comfortingly, "you need to take breaks too okay? you're just gonna burn out completely if not. my smart boy doesn't need to neglect himself to do well, okay?"

"okay" mark mumbles, playing with donghyuck's shirt. "i guess i'm just really nervous"

"that's okay mark, it's so normal. but i know you, you're going to do great, i'm sure of it!"

"thank you hyuckie" mark smiles softly, a faint blush painting his cheeks. "oh by the way, taro told me that jeno wants me to tutor you until the exams. jeno's dad said that right now, you aren't graduating hyuck, but it's okay! we're gonna get you there no matter what. there's not a hope in hell that i'm gonna graduate without you. you can do it hyuck, you just really need to concentrate and try hard for me for the next few weeks, okay?"

"you're something else mark lee" donghyuck giggles, placing a soft kiss onto the older boys forehead. "okay fine. just for you, i'm gonna really try with school now. i really want to graduate mark, i have to"

"you'll do it hyuckie, i know you can" mark smiles encouragingly, his thumb caressing the younger's cheek comfortingly

"lets sleep now so i can be fully rested for my big day of applied effort tomorrow" donghyuck giggles, placing a soft kiss on mark's lips, "night baby"

"night hyuckie" mark replies, and just like that, the pair fall asleep in each others arms, subtle smiles decorating both of their faces.

Had the night not treated you so badly already, your head might not have been spinning with the buzz of alcohol, the sickening smell of cigarettes, the gash running along the side of your forehead from accidentally running into the underside of the bar table, and the bluer than ideal LED lights of Lee Donghyuck’s kitchen. Toying childishly with the hem of the large shirt he had given you, you groaned.

All shit aside, you really had meant to start the night off on a good note.

Work had finished early this evening, leaving you plenty of time to prep for the night out you and a couple other friends had planned weeks ahead of time. In little to no time at all, you were dressed up in the slinkiest outfit you owned and buzzed, grinding playfully against one of your girl friends. As the evening wore on, your friends disappeared, more than likely finding their own flings to finish the night off with. You found yourself alone, mindlessly tracing the condensation dripping down the side of the glass of unidentified liquid you were pretty sure was one of your friend’s unfinished cocktails.

It wasn’t fair, you could vaguely remember thinking as you downed the last of the mixture, wiping your lips with the back of your forearm. It didn’t seem fair that you were still toiling away at the mediocre university you had been sent to, studying something your parents had chosen for you when the man you had fallen for all those years ago was excelling in a field he chose all on his own. You had heard from your family and mutual friends that he was doing well, he was in the middle of his last semester, he had earned an internship from a large pharmaceutical company, and he was fine without you. That damned Lee Donghyuck.

“Fuck, Y/N,” your handsome ex lover sighed, slipping on a pair of sterile, light blue latex gloves before flexing his fingers. “What happened to you?”

A heavy moment elapsed and all you did was gaze at him through glassy eyes. You knew what he was asking. You knew he wanted to know how you had ended up more than drunk on his doorstep at two in the morning. You knew he wanted to know why blood from the cut above your eyebrow was dripping down the side of your face and the stench of clubbing stuck to your clothes. You pursed your lips.

You didn’t want to tell him how you had been trying to pull the pack of cigarettes from out of your clutch when someone accidentally bumped into you, causing you to drop the pack on the floor. You didn’t want him to know that after you crouched down to pick it up, you tried to stand abruptly, only to hit your forehead on the underside of the bar table. So you stayed quiet, letting him roll his eyes in defeat.

He had grown since the last time you saw him. His hair was cut shorter, brushed out of his eyes and his profile had slimmed out some. He was still handsome though. Still handsome in a dark shirt and grey sweatpants with bags under his eyes. Still handsome, stumbling over his own feet sleepily as he ran a washcloth under cool water to clean your forehead with.

What had happened to you, though?

“You broke up with me.” The slurred words passed through your lips simply, as if that one sentence could best summarize the mental and emotional turmoil your sober mind wouldn’t admit to going through the first month after he had broken up with you.

Donghyuck stopped, gloved hand stilling under the running tap.

“Sometimes,” you mumbled, drunken mind speaking the sober thoughts you had kept quiet. “Sometimes I blame you for all that happened. I tell myself that it was all your fault I started going out at night again, it was your fault that I started smoking. It was your fault I started drinking to distract myself from the emptiness I felt after you left. It was your fault that I was suddenly unhappy with everything: my grades, my job, my life, myself.”

The brown haired male sighed, turning off the tap as he stood there, back facing you.

“But then I remember that I brought it upon myself. And then I remind myself that had I been better, you would have stayed.”
