just imagining how much he'd look after you, how if you were sad, he'd hold you and love you until the tears ceased.

"shhh, don't cry, honey. i've got you."

you'd sit on his lap and let him completely engulf you with his arms, body warm and strong and the biggest comfort he could provide. he'd kiss the top of your head and move hair out of your face, asking in a soft voice 'what's wrong?' and 'what can i do to help?'

and you'd mutter silently, thinking your issues were stupid and invalid and apologising for wasting his time. he'd laugh at how sweet you were and how silly you sounded saying such a thing.

"you're not wasting my time, honey. you're my little girl, i gotta look after you yeah?"

you'd nod silently and let him wipe away your tears, a small kiss placed gently on your lips and then he'd push your head down onto his chest, holding you tight, a hand in your hair and voice deep and comforting as he muttered advice, praises passing his lips in validation and love. and he'd crack a joke about something or other, chest rising and falling as he laughed, before taking your face in his hands again and looking you in the eye.

"don't cry now, sweet girl." he'd say whilst wiping away a stray tear. "i'll take care of you."
