I haven’t watched Dungeon Meshi, but I always enjoy the dashboard osmosis experience and have a peculiar visual memory. Here is what I believe Dungeon Meshi to be mostly about. No complicating experiences with the text, or indeed character references, fed into this extremely clear vision, which I believe I torrented directly from the astral plane at the same time as the creator was logged on

NAHHH I WAS WAITING FOR THIS.

I did some research and turns out prehistoric bees aren't gigantic, but we'll go with cat-sized bubblebees.

Tw: some religious themes at the end, MC basically gets captured, involuntarily role

Alright so let's say MC is a scientist. This is obviously not current time because MC manages to use time travel to retrieve an ancient bee species for research.

With their team members, they receive a female and a male to observe (taking an entire hive would be too dangerous). Unlike modern-day bees, they don't have stingers but have been shown to use their retractable claws as their defence instead.

While the other team members do more biological research on their internal workings, MC is the one to observe behaviour. The two bees are very young, just barely reached adult age. MC feeds them, coddles them if they get too cold, and tries to measure their intelligence through certain exercises.

Well over time, the bees start to show some behaviour change. They aren't necessarily hostile to the other team members, but anyone could easily tell they like MC more. They make little buzzes and chirps to get MC's attention, lifting their front arms to show they want to be coddled.

Sometimes they try to get out of their habitat to follow MC home.

After about a year with the bees, the whole team goes to take them home. But then the machine malfunctions, and takes the team in a different era compared to MC and the bees.

So MC is stuck to take the bees home alone before returning to the lab. They get close enough to the hive that they can spot it from a distance before trying to get them to fly.

So the bees do. They go back into their hive but immediately start telling their family and friends how this strange creature took care of them and fed them while they were separated. Practically preaching to everybody how wonderful you are.

Just as MC is about to enter the time machine, it gets busted up by a swarm of bees, whilst the original 2 they had captured climb onto them, trying to find a warm spot.

MC is horrified, as they can't go back home. They are taken to the hive and forced to become some revered person of the bees.

(You can take this in whatever you want, I just implied this as platonic since I couldn't really figure out how romancing a bee would go...Which is odd for me considering I can make anything romantic yan)

They're all love stories:

Could you imagine loving someone so much that you would break down their door and tell them to live with a ferocity that surpasses rabid animals? Ask them to stay with a fragile voice bound to break any second?

Ending a world so they could have a place in it because they couldn't save themselves?

Choosing them, every time, over everything else?

And it is a choice, you make it every time. Because they make you feel alive in ways that scare you sometimes. Because they ignite a fire in you that was supposed to die with you. You were supposed to be cold. But they warm you, and they burn you, and you want to keep the fire close.

Could you imagine loving so deeply that you choose to burn like Icarus?

To keep going.

To be selfish enough to want someone else to live.

To love someone so much that you rip the stars from their place in the sky, tear apart fate like a paper you would burn, unravel the universe to create their epilogue. You die to live with them, you kill all futures where they are not there. You stab your own heart thinking it doesn't matter, they are your soul.

To love someone so much you choose the worst path for yourself, for your loved ones, for your world, because you have to wade through bramble and broken glass with nothing but bleeding cuts and the deceptive smell of roses to see them. You have to ignore their protests and all the pain because if you doubt yourself for one second, they will slip through your hands and run off to die without you. And you promise that you want to live with them, that if they could make it, so could you. Through everything.

Could you imagine loving someone so much that you endure?

Hades II from Chronos's perspective is pretty funny.

"Oh, the prophesy says the secondborn child of Hades will destroy me? Then I have plenty of time! Hades is a miserable, infertile loner. The steps before the prophesy can start are:

1. Hades enters the dating scene (Unlikely)

2. Hades successfully courts someone into his gloomy underground home (Unlikely)

3. They decide to start a family in the kingdom of death (Unlikely)

4. They research fertility options (Costly and time-consuming)

5. They successfully reproduce (also costly and time-consuming)

6. They repeat steps 3 through 5 to get a second child.

On the timeline of gods, I have centuries, possibly millenia, before I have to worry about this prophesy! I can kick back and relax, and slowly grow my power and influence until I am unstoppable!!!"

"...what did you say?"

"...Hades secretly married a fertility goddess, they already have a grown child, and they're expecting their second child?"

"..."

"LAUNCH THE WAR!!! ATTACK NOW!!! GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!"
