so no one on tumblr staff experienced the “disclaimer: I own nothing” years of fanfiction.net at an influential age, huh...

#as usual i only know about the latest tumblr nonsense from posts complaining/warning about it #(and you're right: you should complain about it!) #i get the vague intent to blend with patreon and ko-fi which are promoted here a lot already but uh... #uh no #as someone whose initial fandom experience was those years of fanfic dot net #i already get pretty wide-eyed when i see fan fic authors linking their ko-fi etc #no fear of lawsuits? jesus i was just talking to a local woman-owned distiller at the farmer's market that got threatened by Fireball #...for daring to name their cinnamon vodka Fire Bush #they were like 'it's not whiskey! we're little! how did Fireball even find us!' #consider this a metaphor: monetize your stuff and companies will be fireballing YOU #i mean... i come at this from a fic perspective but... gif makers?? #c'mon we all know where they're getting their content #unless it's from an official social media of a streaming platform #netflix & etc. are not just providing their shows for your giffing and video-making needs #(I mean... they should as sometimes there's no better promotion than a good video edit made simply by a passionate fan but i DIGRESS) #i'm anti-piracy on principle because writers/artists need to get paid but uh #any time i reblog a gif set some downloading or at best DVD ripping has gone on behind the scenes and i'm well aware #do i have the answer to this? No! but the answer is not monetizing gif-making and fanart and fan fic! that way lies TROUBLE #*oh no i see / a spider web is tangled up with me* #*and we lost our heads/ and thought of all the stupid things staff said* #OK and now to go back to fully ignoring this attempt at a change #i fully expect it to not impact me or this site in any way at all and just fade into the ether like every change before #my Tumblr experience marches on #(*knock on wood*)
