LOOK AWAY IF YOU DON'T WANT SO MUCH FOR (TOUR) DUST SPOILERS, OKAY?
~~~
~~~
~~~
Set list:
(1) That Pink Seashell spoken word thing actually opens the show
(2) Love from the Other Side: I assumed they'd play this first, and they did, and they looked very happy with the reception that it got
(3) The Phoenix
(4) Sugar, We're Goin Down: I overheard two guys when I was leaving saying, "I only came to this show for that Sugar song, and it was the third song they played," whatever to those two guys lol
(5) Uma Thurman
(6) A Litttle Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me
(7) Chicago Is So Two Years Ago: I know they always play this song when they play Chicago but the way the show is set up, there's this spoken intro that references a light being left on in Chicago, and then they launch into this song, and so I feel like maybe it's permanently in the set list for this tour, we'll see.
(8) Grand Theft Autumn: Patrick told the story again of how he wrote the lyrics while jogging with Pete. Here is exactly what he said, because I recorded it, hahaha: "I wrote this song out here, jogging, trying to figure out the words. This was back when I wrote a lot of the words. And Pete was jogging with me and he was like, 'Eh, maybe change this, maybe change this.' Before we knew it he was writing all the lyrics." And then Pete said, "Imagine us jogging" lolololol
(9) Calm Before the Storm
(10) This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race: They added a little Peterick-y moment in here? I don't remember them playing at each other during this song in previous performances? It was cute, it was during the instrumental part before Patrick leads the singalong, maybe I've just always missed it? They played it each other and kind of did some kind of kick thing with their legs??
(11) Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes: Honestly, always a delight to hear this song, this is one of my favorites <3
(12) Heaven, Iowa: THIS SONG LIVE, I SWEAR
(13) "The Take Over, the Breaks Over": OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS SONG AND I TOTALLY DIDN'T EXPECT THEM TO PLAY IT, I WAS SO HAPPY
(14) Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet: <3 Guess they got over being scared of playing this one lol
(15) Fake Out: I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW EXCITED I WAS THAT THEY PLAYED THIS ONE OMGGGGGGG. Also, there was some plan I wasn't aware of to, like, hold up cell phones with pink paper over the lights so the crowd lit up pink???? I have no idea who engineered that but it was CHARMING and at the end of the song Pete said, "Thanks for that, guys, that was beautiful," and the stage was on darkness so it seemed absolutely spontaneous on his part and I think they really did like the effect, so, Idk, future shows, keep doing it????
(16) Patrick did some kind of piano interlude where he played "Don't Stop Believin'"????? It was random but he was super charming, I think the rest of the band used it as a break, it was just SO GREAT. Part of his intro was: "Pete was putting together this show and he said to me, 'Hey, you should play piano.' And I was like, 'I kinda only play songs I wrote. I don't really play piano. I don't know how to play piano.' And he's like, 'Eh, you'll figure it out.'" And then Patrick sat down and played gorgeous piano ugh THANKS, PETE.
(17) Last of the Real Ones: I am glad Mania got some love.
(18) Save Rock and Roll
(19) PETE RECITED BABY ANNIHILATION WHAT. I SWEAR TO GOD. I SO DID NOT EXPECT THIS AND I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THAT IT HAPPENED. If you're going to the show, pay attention, because I looked away and apparently there's, like, a magic trick at the end of the monologue where he disappears behind a piece of black silk?????
(20) Crazy Train cover: I...don't know what to say about this randomness hahaha but it happened??
(21) Dance Dance
(22) Hold Me Like a Grudge: I think Patrick adores singing this song, I really do.
(23) G.I.N.A.S.F.S.: I KNOW. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT, EITHER.
(24) My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)
(25) Thnks fr th Mmrs
(26) Centuries
(27) Saturday <3
The show ends with a little piano version of So Much (for) Stardust played over the sound system, so pay attention for that.
The set is super Alice in Wonderland-y and I adored it, it's playful and fantastical and has all these whimsical touches and interludes and I just thought it was delightful and at one point there were bubbles, and I heard some people complaining after the concert that the fantasy thing didn't suit their style of music and really, I was surrounded by downers after the concert, I thought they were perfect hahaha. Like, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. They looked so, so, so tangibly happy, all of them. Patrick sounded fantastic and he looked like he was having a blast, he smiled the whole time.
I have a lot of videos but they seem like they're all pretty terrible, but I'll see how I feel in the morning lol
In memory of the Apology Mug Story (and because I walked past a super old building recently; guess what it had on the facade)
Reader who knows how to carve rocks into specific forms and is very skilled in it makes Malleus a gargoyle for his birthday. He's so happy he ends up accidentally confessing his love to them.
Bonus points if that was Lilia's idea because he got tired of seeing them dance around each other and wanted things to happen already
This is really cute <3 for those who aren't certain what the apology mug story is; the link to that is Here!
A special birthday present for our favorite draconic prince <3
Being in Ramshackle with a limited amount of entertainment (being unable to afford many electronics) you had to resort to other forms of entertainment. Reading, cooking, sewing, board games, long walks outside, musical instruments, and your most recent of endeavors; rock carving. You had learned a few things here and there from Malleus, he was an avid crafter of gargoyles within his club and was more than happy to teach you a thing or two. Although most of your attempts seemed to fail in his eyes, you were actually secretly incredibly skilled at this. You were leaving your skills to set up a surprise present for the fae for his birthday; January 18th.
It wasn't hard to figure out what you were planning on doing for his birthday, Malleus was incredibly easy to read. Although money was scarce for you, using your skills to handmake something would be much more worth receiving than any amount of money could pay for. At least, that's what Malleus had said when you inquired what he would like at his celebration.
"A present is not necessary," He told you with a graceful smile, "Bring yourself, and your smile. That is enough for me." ...you were not going to take that as the final verdict, thus began your journey to create a gift he was surely going to enjoy.
His birthday came upon you, and your gift was finally completed. You did not hesitate to rush over to Diasomnia for the celebration, bringing over two things; A homemade ice cream cake, and your gift box. The cake was pretty much the start of Malleus's excitement, ice cream cakes exist?! It wasn't common in Twisted Wonderland much to your surprise, so sharing your handmade cake with his enjoyment of icecream implemented already sent him over the moon. The joy that was written all over his face was the easiest text to read, soon pouring out of his mouth in a theatric novel after unwrapping his second gift from you- two gargoyles. They were miniature and made for décor less than actual function, however, his excitement seemed to explode off the tip of his tongue.
His bright green eyes were sparkling, his mouth ajar, and a blush painted across his pale cheeks.
"It's us! See, one has your horns and the other-" Malleus immediately wrapped you into his embrace, much to the protest of Sebek nearby, yet the smiles of amusement of Silver and Lilia quickly hushed the student. It seemingly seemed the words held inside had burst at the seams, and Malleus had begun setting free the things he had been eager to share for some time now.
"I am in pure infatuation with you," Malleus blurted out, "I have not received a gift so heartfelt and beautiful," it almost sounded like he was holding back tears of happiness.
"Two gargoyles representing you and I, shall I take this as a declaration that you wish to be my pair?" He did not await your response, the tall fae was already shooting off at the mouth. "I reciprocate. Your beautiful craftmanship will forever be my treasure, next to you, of course." You could not hide the clear redness from your face, and the dumb smile that planted permanently at his sudden confession.
"it's about time!" Lilia laughed, "Now, let us celebrate not only our prince's birthday but also the union between these two lovebirds!" Malleus pulled away from the hug and smiled again at the gargoyles you intricately designed, turning to face his dormmates.
"Yes, let us resume the festivities. We shall celebrate all night long, this will be a birthday well worth remembering. Come now, my dearest." Setting down the Gargoyles in a safe place, he grabbed hold of your hand dragging you into the joyful celebration <3
Happy birthday, Malleus!!
The Key to Your Heart - Track 1
Pairing: Pedro Pascal x Musician!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: After writing your feelings for Pedro into a song, it gains a lot more popularity than expected. Ultimately it brings both criticism and support, with new possibilities around the corner.
Warnings: 18+ only (MDNI). Potential for puns/dad jokes (name of my blog, and the fic) should give that away. This is my first fic which should be its own warning, lol. Also some cursing. Mentions of masturbation (f) maybe more smut later idk. Sadness, reader is pretty depressed. Poor body image. Rude people. Bullying-ish and just lack of support? Anxiety. Age gap! Reader is in her mid 20's, Pedro is current age (48).
Other stuff: Reader is plus sized. AFAB. Inexperienced. Also has a dog, but you can pretend it is another creature probably.
Word Count: 1.9K
Series List: Here!
Thank you for checking it out :) let me know what you think. I made this probably more wordy and personal than I should've... OOF.
Tumblr media
The clock was nearing 4 AM when, with a sniffle, you closed the app you were on and clicked the power button on your phone. A single tear ran down your face as you rolled on your side and hoped that maybe in your dreams you could experience the love you craved so desperately. For the past few hours, and every night you didn't have work in the morning, or had free time before bed, you would read fanfiction. You knew people had a lot of poor opinions about fanfic, but the best thing about them is that unlike other stories, you were in these. You could imagine it was you in the story spending time with your favorite characters.
The worst part of fanfiction, however… is when you realize it isn't real and won't ever happen. Sure, you can imagine it, and you can feel the emotions and even give yourself pleasure at the thoughts, but when it wears off, you realize that it's just you. You're alone, and not your mind, nor your hands, can give you what you truly want. What you need.
You aren't so dumb or delusional as to think it's real, or to think you have a chance. If your own mind didn't tell you that enough, your family and friends would remind you plenty. At the mention of your crush, you'd get comments that had a playfulness, or childlike connotation at the idea of you crushing on someone famous. If not that, you'd get pity, or told you should put yourself out there and find someone you actually have a chance with… as if you chose to have these feelings. Why would you choose to fall in love with someone you have no chance with?
For a while, you could pretend it was just a crush and that you couldn't be in love with someone you've never met. But ultimately you accepted that it wasn't true. This isn't the first time, and you're sure it won't be the last. With the previous crush lasting several years, you knew you'd just have to wait it out.
This time around, the crush was on Pedro Pascal. Current heartthrob of the world, starring in some of the most popular franchises of the time. If people didn't know his name, they certainly knew a character of his; unless they lived under a rock.
Tumblr media
With this information in the back of your mind, the fact that everyone knew him and everyone loved him and he could have anyone he wanted, you sighed, hoping it would finally get through your head, and rolled over to your other side. Unable to sleep, you pulled out your journal to write down your feelings before eventually drifting off, pen in hand.
Letting out a groan, you awoke too few hours later to your dog Skipper crying in your face. "Gotta pee, buddy? Alright.." You climbed out of bed and he spun in a circle before galloping through the house towards the patio door. Humming a song you don't yet know, you sit by the door and think about what you wrote the night before. It wasn't uncommon for you to write songs, and you found it comforting to play instruments and sing your feelings out into the lyrics. Although you often recorded and purchased the copyrights to your music, you never posted it.  Maybe someday…you always told yourself, pondering with the idea of some extra money.
Tumblr media
After letting the dog in, you sat at the piano with last night's journal and wrote a song which spilled your feelings for Pedro. You recorded it and went about your day, but it kept nagging you. Finally, after another sleepless night, you posted it onto some music streaming websites. Using a stage name of just your first nickname, you added the song, which you titled "Imaginary Love." It never mentions Pedro by name, only talking of the strong feelings you have for someone famous that you'll never be with.
Tumblr media
Once that was out of the way, you didn't check your accounts for several days. Eventually, however, you began receiving emails. Radio stations wanted to play your song, record companies wanted to sign you, they wanted an album. Your head swirled, and you agreed to put out an album with other songs you've written, still maintaining your stage identity. I'll just be like Hannah Montana, you thought, with a laugh of disbelief.
About a month later, you and your music were still a mystery to people. People loved your song. People related to it. But of course, there were critics. Negative impressions spurred about you being childish, immature, naive, and silly. Others just wanted to know the gossip. Who were you? Where did you come from? And WHO were you singing about?!
Trying to ignore the chatter, you noticed a new interview of Pedro being posted, as advertisement for his newest film. Finally something to look forward to and get your mind off of this! Flicking on your television, you broadcast the interview of Pedro from your cell phone. Your heart skipped as you looked at him, his messy brown curls falling near his ears that held his large black framed glasses. His brown eyes twinkled as the interviewer talked to him about his work.
Eventually they broke into more casual conversation, discussing current favorite movies, what he last saw in theaters, what he's binge-watching, last concert he saw, and finally… the current song he can't stop listening to.
"Oh, man… I can't stop listening to "Imaginary Love," he answered without hesitation, hand on his heart.
Your stomach lurched. Your heart stopped. You forgot how to breathe. What. The. Fuck. Shit shit shit shit shit. This can't. Be real. You rewound the video. This HAS to be a dream. But it wasn't. "Imaginary Love," he said. Oh. Crap. You replayed it several more times, but it didn't make it more real. The interviewer replied "oh… here we go. The song everyone is talking about! I am curious though, what are your thoughts on it? Who do you think it's about?" Pedro's smile faltered a bit at the man's tone, but he remained his usual genuine, sincere self when he answered. "I… I'm also curious about who she is and who the song is about, but I think that ultimately it's up to her whether she decides to reveal that. I think we can all relate to the pain of love, especially unrequited, and I think it's brave of her to share that level of open vulnerability with the world. I can't expect her to share more than what she already has."
Your heart fluttered.
Yet the interviewer continued. "Don't you think it's a little… I dunno… naive? I mean, you get it, you're in show business. The average kid really doesn't have a chance, and even more so, isn't it a little… creepy? The way she's put this guy on a pedestal? Claims she's in love with a man she doesn't even know?"
Pedro's fingers twitched around the base of the microphone, his eyebrows furrowed, and he slowly nodded while pondering his response. I can't watch this anymore.. His pause felt like a lifetime, and you couldn't handle the tension. The interviewer was an ass, but his words were nothing new. He was probably right... You are creepy and naive. You reached for the remote to turn off the television. It had only been a few seconds, but you couldn't bear the potential heartbreak that you knew would come. This is exactly why you haven't revealed yourself or the subject of your lyrics.
Pedro cleared his throat before speaking. "You're right… I am in show business and I get it. I get that in order to get what you truly want in life, we all seem a bit naive. I've spent my life trying to make it as an actor, sometimes struggling if it hadn't been for the help of my friends. I was naive, and I suppose a bit delusional. Obviously this is a bit different though. Unlike jobs, we can't choose who we love. I think we've all had celebrity crushes at some point in our lives."
Your breath was caught in your throat and you could feel tears welling up in your eyes. He doesn't even know you, and he's somehow able to reach into your lyrics to understand exactly how you feel without the judgment or pity you often feel from those who know you personally. And yet… the asshole interviewer kept on. Seriously dude… how long are you going to drag this on? Talk to Pedro about his achievements. Quit ranting. The interview has completely gone off the rails. "Okay.. I gotta ask though.." Ugh what now??! He continued, "this girl is a fan. The only thing she knows is what's made public. She's keeping her identity hidden but doesn’t seem to wonder what her so-called “love” is hiding from the world. Would you, as a celebrity, genuinely consider someone like her, a fan, if she came out and said the song was about you? I mean, would any of you out there? We're not just talking about a normal person, or even a slight fan. We're talking write-a-song-about-him level obsessed."
Pedro answered without hesitation. "Sure I would consider it. You can already feel her emotional vulnerability and passion. I think she's deserving of happiness just like anyone." If only you knew.. It is you, Pedro.. But your negative thoughts filled your consciousness. Like he'd want you.. he's almost twice your age.. look at yourself. He can have anyone he wants. He'd never actually choose you. Look at your blemishes. Your big stomach, flab, and stretch marks. Nobody has ever wanted you. You've never even been kissed, you fool. A grown adult.
Tumblr media
You frowned and finished watching the interview, swept away in your self-hatred. You slunk onto the floor, cuddling your dog, seeking the only comfort you're able to receive. This is why I prefer animals, you think. They love you no matter what you look like or who you are.
A few days later, the events of Pedro's interview went viral, spurring both negative and positive responses.
"Pedro Pascal Defends Unknown Artist"
"Mandalorian Actor Slams Interviewer"
"Watch: Pedro Pascal Interview Gets Heated"
The headlines get more and more dramatic, acting as if fist fights broke out or a gun battle ensued. It was all pretty tame. A simple conversation of differing opinions. However… you still couldn't help but feel guilty that he put his own reputation on the line for you in a way. He doesn't even know you. What was in this for him, that he felt the need to defend you?
It was at this moment that you decided to log into Instagram from your stage artist profile. Hopping into the message section, you typed out Pedro Pascal and clicked his profile, writing out a message. "Hi Mr. Pascal! I recently watched your interview and I can't begin to express my gratitude towards you. I feel terribly guilty that this is beginning to weigh on your own image, but I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for your defense, thank you for your support of my music, but most importantly, thank you for seeing my lyrics as they were meant to be… from my heart. Thank you for your kindness."
You tapped send and waited with bated breath. After ten minutes of staring at the screen, you decided you needed a break from the internet, dropped your phone, and went for a walk with Skipper.
Meanwhile, from the couch at home, your phone lit up with a notification.
hi sea, hope you're doing well!
so, i haven't really been here for a while because life happened but I found myself wondering recently, how is everything going here? from what I've seen louis looks really good and happy these days and he's joining a bunch of festivals? exciting things!
Hi there!
In terms of Louis’ trajectory— the general direction of his career— 2023 has been the best year for him ever. Including in 1D.
Louis released FITF, an album that went to Official Charts #1 in the UK, Billboard #5, and many top tens internationally.
After the 80-show world tour last year (2022), Louis then booked the biggest solo tour he’s done so far. FITFWT 2023 had 79 shows + AFHF. Louis played some of the same venues that 1D played at the height of popularity, and sold out the O2 Arena in London.
28 Clothing began selling products this year. The choice to partner with Hype Beast for the limited runs is on brand and very smart marketing. Using a separate marketing firm for 28 was also a great idea.
Louis will probably have one of the largest merch sales this year, all while keeping his prices average (for tour merch). At Matt Vines’ estimate of $38 per person on tour, he will have sold about (conservatively) $10 million in tour merch this year, not counting 28 Clothing. I estimate revenue for tour tickets to be around $14 million (assuming about 250k tickets for FITFWT 2023 at $55 per).
Even if these aren’t the biggest numbers, Louis’ cumulative achievement comes from many years of stop-and-start disruptions, much hard work and heartache, and— initially— some very hopeful, loyal, diehard fans who kept waiting for him and encouraging him.
The achievements also feel authentically won, as the biggest radio stations in the UK and USA are still blacklisting Louis from the airwaves. He might come on Jimmy Fallon and iHeart, but it’s rare to hear his music on radio— which translates to few streaming playlists. BMG UK also treats Louis like a catalogue artist and relies on fans’ word-of-mouth for promo. So for so many fans to show up for him at the concerts really means genuine interest, real love.
In addition, Louis is being nominated by some mainstream music media, like Rolling Stone UK and Billboard, for legitimate awards (Best Tour Act for RSUK, Best Music Documentary for Billboard). It reminds me of the start of his solo career in 2017-18, when Louis was up for awards like iHeart’s Breakout Solo Artist, Best UK/ Ireland solo act, and other awards, instead of simply being shut out as in 2019-22.
My opinion is that RSUK and Billboard have nominated Louis to harness the social media power of his fans and draw more attention to their awards (once again, free PR), especially since the Billboard award is fan-voted. However, attention to the awards also keeps Louis’ name in their publications.
Finally, yes!!! Festivals!
So far Louis has been booked in festivals only in Mexico, the UK, and Europe, but this is also where his audience has the highest concentration. The choice to do festivals with rock and indie acts makes sense, because Louis is already friends with many current acts (and has toured with several) and there’s potential for the audience to cross over. Listening to Faith In The Future, I would say that Louis can still go further in an indie sound. He loves his big pop choruses — bless— but he can convert them to rock, not just in instrumental arrangement but in spirit. To me, Back To You isn’t really a rock song and it doesn’t sound like a rock song no matter what, but it is fun. The festivals are a good way to test his music and go further. All around him are inspirations.
(It’s also inspirational to see people like The Snuts going out on their own label. Much food for thought.)
Also in terms of business structure, Louis and Matt Vines invested in OpenStage, a business that taps into direct-to-consumer marketing for artists via social media and texting. It’s too early to know whether this company is the “pirate” that bypasses big music labels, radio, and streaming services to sell to and connect to fans directly, or whether it will get bought out by a big PR firm or killed by competition. However, Louis has been doing independent festivals, playing at independent music venues, promoting smaller and indie artists, thinking about managing these artists and starting an indie label for years. These are early steps for Louis to establish a presence outside of traditional music industry.
I know the unpopular opinions meme finished ages ago, but id love to hear yours on Chetney, especially given the uthodurn arc. I suppose for more specific direction since thats quite a broad ask, what would you say is the fandom interpretation of Chetney’s character, and how does your opinion/interpretation of him differ and why?
Absolutely - and questions like this one are always welcome!
I was actually quite pleasantly surprised by the fandom response to Chetney this week, which was by and large positive. But with that in mind I think that honestly, it's hard to pin down a definitive fandom interpretation of Chetney's character! Some of this is probably the circles in which I engage and what people put in the main tag, but I think at this point people who felt he was comic relief or a shallow joke or "just couldn't get him!" have either quietly adjusted their expectations or have left the fandom, or have always been people only watching for one character and ignored him from the start.
So I think the thing that differs in my opinion, to be honest, is just that like....I've never reduced him to mere comic relief? Like, he's an extremely funny and ridiculous character, but he showed a great deal of emotional depth from early on; if you didn't pick that up from his rapid turnaround on Dorian it's pretty much impossible to miss in his quiet conversation in the Heartmoor or the way he takes FCG's also ridiculous backstory about Shithead completely in earnest. These two things, as I've mentioned many a time before, are not in conflict! I think Chetney definitely skews far more comedic than, say, Fjord; or obviously more so than other Bells Hells party members Imogen; but like, comedy, tragedy, and horror are all connected by the same tissue, separated only by timing, perspective, and expectation. We know Travis can do a ridiculous character with heavy plot beats as we've seen with Grog; we also know that sometimes the funniest jokes come from more serious characters (again, I think an underrated moment of hilarity in C2 was Caleb's early "you look like a nerd").
It's very narrow and not terribly smart to box characters into a tiny contained archetype with no room to spread out, and Travis is particularly good among the cast at creating characters who defy those boxes. Chetney is an old weirdo with a high voice who says truly preposterous things; he is also someone whose life took an unexpectedly sharp slide downward following an impulsive decision, and who then, improbably, found that what many would consider rock bottom was in fact one of the greatest things that ever happened to him. He's incredibly passionate about what he loves, and vocal about what he dislikes, and deceptively insightful, and has a strong sense of justice and a remarkably good sense of how far he can push people with his over-the-top bravado without wearing out his welcome. He's even (heavily implied to be) bisexual.
I also think, and here's where "oh shit we need to catch up on the entire campaign on the Bells Hells page on the wiki" is really benefiting me, people underestimate how quietly instrumental Chetney is in many of Bells Hells decisions. He was not just the person to clock Dusk, but also the person to broker the compromise; he served as one of the more levelheaded party members following the disastrous fight with Otohan; he's consistently been the one to ask Imogen to actually consider her relationship with her powers; he was the one who convinced Delilah that she needed them leading Delilah to give Laudna a moment; and it was ultimately his idea to fly the skyship into the key. As of this level, he literally is the brains of the operation, with a +3 INT modifier to Orym, Ashton, and Laudna's +1 (and Imogen's +0 and Fearne and FCG's -1's). He has an overblown public sense of pride, but is remarkably willing to set his ego aside when he is not the focus. And for all he loves being a werewolf, he also does take responsibility for the harm he has done without wallowing in guilt. (Not that exploring guilt isn't valid as well, but I think Chet's approach is an admirable trait).
To be honest I think anyone who's not on board with Chet is uncomfortable with those final notes. Either they're one of the stragglers still on their "but Grog had a 6 INT and despite having five entire years to get over this during which Travis has consistently played characters with at least a +2 to INT, I shall not change my perception" bullshit, or, more realistically, are uncomfortable with the fact that Chetney (and, on a meta level, Travis as a player) both without hesitation will take the lead when appropriate or needed, but also will step aside when the narrative is not about him with absolutely no ego or resentment. I think that last bit really throws people off, especially people of the 'if the show cannot be interpreted as secretly centering my blorbo at all times I'm going to go into my tantrum hole' persuasion.
anywho here are maneskins albums ranked according to which ones i like best, if you're also into them i would love to hear your thoughts (this is also LONG AS FUCK)
1. TEATRO D'IRA
this was the first one i listened to, i dont even remember why, i vaguely remember thinking of beggin' and being like,, omg i remember that song, i wonder if they have any good albums. so i googled which maneskin album was best and MY LIFE WAS TRANSFORMED. every single song on this album is such a banger there are no skips, like usually on albums i like there are at least a couple songs where i'm like,, ehhh could be better. NOT HERE. idk which song is my favourite i think it's a tie between IWBYS, coraline, zitti e buoni, and vent'anni (literally that is half of the album, that's how good it is).
anyway i love love love the hard rock sound, but it's also not just that, like there is so much variation but it's all very cohesive. maneskin is known for their unique sound so that makes sense but my mind is still sort of boggled. it has like some harder songs but they all feel emotional?? i dont even speak italian but without even looking up the translation i almost cried from coraline because it was so beautiful. and vent'anni is ON ANOTHER LEVEL. IT IS THE PERFECT SONG TO END AN ALBUM WITH. it like combines all the ideas of the album into one song, it has hard rock elements but it still almost feels like a ballad.? GOD I LOVE THIS ALBUM. i think it might be my second fabourite album of all time now,,, it's just actually perfect. i think it's the best album i've heard in 2024. FUCK ITS SO GOOD.
2. RUSH! (ARE U COMING?)
GOD GOD GODDDDD THIS ALBUM. this is a totally different sound to any of their other albums. it's also LITERALLY DOUBLE THE LENGTH OF THEIR PREVIOUS LONGEST ALBUM (il ballo della vita, which is 34 minutes) WHICH MEANS THIS ALBUM HAS ONE HOUR AND EIGHT MINUTES OF MUSIC. TEATRO D'IRA ONLY HAS 30 MINUTES!!!! YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THIS IS REVOLUTIONARY. okay so this album was at first released just as RUSH! with five less songs, but apparently as they continued touring and stuff they felt they had more to say so they added more songs (correct me if i'm wrong but i think this is what happened). I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS ALBUM, IT IS ONCE AGAIN VERY GENIUS. the songs are almosr completely english. i really love their italian songs, but they have always wanted to write in english so i understand why they're moving back to english.
SO!! this album is so good, it has a lot of extra depth that none of their previous albums had (musically),, except for maybe il ballo della vita. like in teatro d'ira it's basically just bass, guitar, drums, vocals, and tambourine. there might be a couple other instruments but the reason that album is so strong is because of the foundation and stuff. but with rush! there is not only a strong foundation but they also had so many types of songs!!!! there were ballads, there were harder songs, but there were also weird songs like bla bla bla and kool kids. i really LOVE kool kids, i love the punk sound. i think my favourite songs are HONEY (ARE U COMING), off my face, gossip, timezone, baby said, feel, and mammamia but EVERY SONG IS SO GOOD. just like the prev albums THERE ARE NO SKIPS!! that is so crazy for me because even with my one love (david bowie's ziggy stardust and the whatever lol) there is one skip, and måneskin has THREE ALBUMS WITH NO SONGS I WANT TO SKIP. THIS IS SO RARE FOR ME YOU DONT UNDERSTAND. i got off track there back to rush. this album is, also, SO COHESIVE. despite all the different styles they try it all fits together so well, it's such a magical experience to listen to this album. okay so this album was going to be number three on this list but i'm going to switch it now bc im currently listening to it and writing this is sort of changing my mind lol, ITS SO GODDAMN GOOD. tbh i would say this album is equally aa good as teatro d'ira but i have a sentimental attachment to teatro already lol and it's also more my usual style of music.
3. Chosen (this is an ep but whatever)
so this was their first album thing they ever released, it's mostly covers but there are two originals which are the first two songs. the originals are SO GOOD expecially for being some of the first music they ever released????? im obsessed with chosen (the song), i really REALLY love the line "this is not music, this is my life, this is what i live for." IT FEELS SO TRUE BC THATS HOW I FEEL ABOUT MUSIC (i literally do not make music i just like it lol but its like an important part of my life idfk but this line just hits hard) anyway i think the reason i like this album sm is because it's a lot more lighthearted?? i really like the style of their music, how it all feels connected even though it's mostly covers. also i think i like this album so much too because i found this english translation where they competed on x factor and most of these songs were there (if anyone wants the link lmk).
my favourite song by far tho is SOMEBODY TOLD ME. GOD FUCKING DAMN THEY EXECUTED THAT SONG SO WELL. and their FUCKING PERFORMANCE on x factor that went with it was SO GODDAMN GOOD. i love watching choreography and stuff, its my fucking jam, but i dont usually feel actual emotions about it?? like obviously it was very attractive, damiano is stunning, but also it was just so gorgeous..?? i felt real emotions watching that one performance, it was so good. im going to put the link at the bottom of the post bc GOOD LORD. god that was a brilliant performance. anyway i just love the sound of this ep, it's very raw and i really love that it was when they were first starting out,,
also the goofy little intros on both of the original songs on these albums are SO FUNNY why did he do that
4. Il ballo della vita
we've reached the final album :(((( i honestly feel bad for putting it at the end, but the reason it's all the way down here is because there's actually a couple songs i don't love, so i'll say those first. the first one is immortale. i cant tell if its a bad song or not, but i think its good, i just personally dont love it lol. but the other one is "are you ready?" this song is not even that bad it's just kind of goofy, but once again, it's not my usual style of music and it's not something i think i would listen to if it wasn't maneskin.
okay now we can get into WHAT I LIKE!!!! WHICH IS LITERALLY THE REST OF THE ALBUM. this album's style is very similar actually to the chosen ep, except it's all originals, and it's also VERY EXPERIMENTAL. i love love LOVEEEE that. like you can tell this is their first lp by how many different things they try. they're finding their style BUT IT STILL REMAINS EXTREMELY IDENTIFIABLE. on x factor their little music coach guy kept emphasising that when the other judges commented on how maneskin should try different styles and saying that its more important to be recognisable, but MANESKIN DID BOTH!! they tried so many tyoes of songs with different structures and stuff, but they also remained maneskin. obviously damiano's vocals are a huge part in that, he has a distinct af voice, but it's also the other instruments, i particularly noticed vic's bass, and i love LOVE thomas's riffs OMG. this isn't even just on this album. i dont play guitar so i have no idea if he's technically skilled (i think he is???) but i LOVE HIS STYLE AND THE CLASSIC MANESKIN RIFFS OMGGGGG. anyway tho the reason this album is so good bc it has so much variation, although i would say it's not as cohesive as the other albums, even chosen. my favourite songs tho are definitely torna a casa, fear for nobody, and close to the top. torna a case is a BEAUTIFUL ballad. it's brilliant and amazing,, i LOVE that song.
also, they made a documentary about the making of this album which was so so interesting. it was very real, and you kind of get an insight into their dynamic as a band, which was just so SHAJAISISI. but it definitely made me appreciate this album more when i could actually get a look into its production. anyway listen to torna a casa it's gorgeous.
OKAY!!! this was so fun to write actually, i doubt anyone is going to read it because it's so goddamn long but if you did i am kissing you on the lips. here is the promised link to their performance of somebody told me by the killers covered by måneskin https://youtu.be/ADcTUnUJnGs?si=3Iht9sLZn2ZRbuAW
seriously, this band is so good. i'm obsessed with them yeah but they're honestly revolutionary. not only are they basically the only world famous italian band (that i know of at least?? lmk if there are any), but they do so many INTERESTING THINGS. i have been SEARCHING for a modern band who takes old music, particularly 70s bc that's what i'm into, and takes inspiration from it but still makes something original. they are doing so much for music nowadays, obviously there are lots of amazing modern rock bands, but the fact that maneskin is SO popular is crazy to me, it makes me so so happy. and not only that, it's also so amazing that there are two queer band members (vic and ethan) who (especially victoria) talk about being queer. they also act very modest in interviews and stuff, which i really appreciate, and they're all very well-spoken and good at communicating their thoughts even though it's in a second language, which can be SO FRUSTRATING sometimes bc you know what you want to say but it can be so hard in a second language. they are just very eloquent and they act very wonderful (i say "act" and "seem" bc i understand it's a parasocial relationship lol, they could all be assholes, but they seem very, VERY genuine). they all impress me a lot and i am so excited to see what they do next.
damn this is so long im sorry but i had to say this I AM OBSESSED WITH THESE GUYS, maybe if you're also into maneskin or want to get into them you could dm me to talk about them........??..?🥺🥺
so I got Peter Gabriel's newest album, i/o. I was curious about it; I've never owned a Peter Gabriel solo album before. ("I loved him in early Genesis" would be an understatement. just, never got around to his solo work!) so this is my first. I like the man himself, I love his singing voice, I admire him as a public figure. and this album looked... rather interesting!
because, see, it's an album with three faces. there's 12 songs on three discs. each disc has all 12 songs, but each disc is mixed by a different person with a different approach to audio engineering. so there's a Bright Side Mix (mixed by Mark 'Spike' Stent, described as like a painter's approach to the album), a Dark Side Mix (mixed by Tchad Blake, described as like a sculptor's approach to the album), and an In-Side Mix (mixed by Hans-Martin Buff, a very fancy mix that makes you feel like the music is happening all around you). so. to listen to this album is, ultimately, to hear it three different times.
anyway, so, I've listened to the Bright Side to start with. I've listened to some of the songs multiple times, as some of them got my attention right away and I already love them. and I've begun a sort of... comparative listen to the Dark Side, so I'll be listening to the Bright Side songs again and then immediately following up with the Dark Side version.
I am willing to go to lengths to experience this because, uh, this album fucking rocks??? not.. not like rocks, it's definitely not a rock album, it is far closer to a pop album. with my limited experience listening to entire pop albums, I can only really compare this to a few things-- Coldplay, Radiohead's A Moon Shaped Pool, Madonna or Poe. it sounds very modern. it is probably something other people will be much less impressed with, though may also really like straight away! the songs are all at consistently slow tempos, with soundscapes of synths, bass guitars, varied percussion, and a full string orchestra that comes in at cinematic moments on each track. it's.. like, it's not the kind of music I normally listen to outside of if it's in a film or a video game, I definitely don't normally listen to entire albums of this. and it's taking me a lot of focus to really dig into and notice things, learn the songs. but it having multiple mixes encourages that!!!
and. like. there are really a lot of slow songs on here, there's one that's entirely voice, bass, and piano, and there are some songs that I would consider "bops" but this is not a bop album. but. it's also not what I'd expect from pop-- and wikipedia classifies it as "art pop"-- because the average song is like 5 minutes long, there are a lot of 6 minute songs, and there's even a song approaching 8 minutes. though there aren't exactly loads of lyrics either; this album spends a lot of time just letting the music groove and breathe!!! I'm... super impressed with that.
what else. uh.
naturally, I've been mega curious about that whole... "three versions of each song" deal. I didn't know what to expect from it. and I'm only two songs into the Dark Side Mix, but I do have a clearer idea now. the Dark Side so far strips back some of the more melodic side instruments, where they're otherwise busy and add onto the verses and stuff, and instead cranks up the drums and the bass. even in the vocals, the lower parts are far more pronounced. gives a very different flavour to the many moments of groove and atmosphere. I would not consider it inaccurate to draw comparisons with how Sonic 3 & Knuckles handles its Act 2 mixes in later levels, where the songs aren't immediately different but there is a definite shift in focus. (plus, comparing things to Sonic is in character for me.)
like. specifically. track 1, "Panopticom," isn't all that different between mixes, and I can kinda give or take each version. I think that song's drum part can drown out the riff, so the Bright Side holds its own by mixing the drums a bit softer, making the whole song sound like... 80s/90s synthpop of some sort. but track 2, "The Court...." hoo boy. first of all, that song grew on me very quickly. it has a flow to it, it has a mood to it, it is really fun. both mixes are, frankly, great. and the Bright Side Mix is superior in exactly one place-- the line "we know that justice is blind" at the end of the song just.. sounds better here, I really like how it sounds. but "The Court," Dark Side........ ohhhh man. that is where the true excitement to this album began for me, my excitement at how they're doing this multi-mix thing. Bright Side got me to like the song, know what to expect, and I really liked the song! but then Dark Side.... brings up the drum and the bass...... and lets the stranger deeper ambient sounds throughout the song be heard..... and brings the vocals in the choruses lower, makes them more like an ethereal dreamlike chant. it is so good. I fucking love "The Court." I love it. and it wasn't even my favorite of the Bright Side songs!!! and there's still 10 other Dark Side tracks I haven't even listened to yet!!!
(incidentally, my favorite on Bright Side was probably "Four Kinds of Horses," which has a baffling name but is shockingly good. but some of those really slow stripped-back songs are a close second, especially "So Much." that song is.. breathtaking.... but "And Still" is also stunning??? holy shit that flute.... that mood....)
so. so.
I dunno, maybe some of you like your art pop. go check out Peter Gabriel. the new album's legit.
youtube
I leave you with The Court, Dark Side. but I also gave some other song names up there, go check those out.
I do love pop sometimes....
Hi, can I get a Hazbin Match up please?
• My pronouns are she/her
• I am bisexual, possibly also demi
• I'm quite reserved and introverted, one to blend into the crowd and not one to stand out, but once you get to know me I can be very open and expressive. An introverted theater kid essentially. I'd also say l'm pretty kind, but can also be sarcastic. I can also be a bit mischievous as l like to do random stuff because I think it's funny. Despite all this I'm still a more lower energy person and am pretty calm, the mediator (and quite mature I'm told). The therapist friend who also needs a therapist if you will. But that more hyper part of me definitely comes out more intensely if something I like is involved. As in bouncing up and down at the seams explaining my interests hyper. I also seek for deep connections with people, so I hate small talk
• My interests are in drawing, writing, reading, engineering, and ESPECIALLY music (kpop, anime openings, musical soundtracks, video game music, instrumental covers, etc) as I have a very large imagination and am constantly thinking up new scenarios with different characters be them for myself or for a potential book or show idea. I also loves rocks and have a rock collection, and find interest in other small things that I'll dip my toes into (like abandoned Disney animatronics, mechanics of roller coasters, Ancient Rome history, etc) but I also love media such as anime (Naruto specifically), NATM, Splatoon, Hamilton, Greatest Showman, and more
• I am also an INFJ, a Virgo, and a Hufflepuff
• Uh... I have epilepsy (not photosensitive, also medicated), I get very socially anxious depending on the scenario but am getting better about it, don't like fake people, and I have trust issues. I am also in a choir because of my love for singing
𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕙𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕓𝕖𝕖𝕟 𝕞𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕖𝕕 𝕨𝕚𝕥𝕙…
𝓐𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓵 𝓓𝓾𝓼𝓽!
Tumblr media
Quite honestly I have no idea how you two met. Although I'd assume at the hotel
Since you're introverted and more quiet he'd definitely be the one to initiate conversation probably noticing how you're more closed off from the rest of the cast
"So what are you doin here sugar?"
He most likely just wanted to annoy the hell out of you at first and you noticed that and pushed him away... which only made him want to know you more
After that it was a chase for him. You also probably noticed how fake he was and began getting annoyed with him for it
Not to mention all of his energy really drained you at first most likely. It was only when he had a rough day at work when you decided to talk to him since it looked like he had it rough
"It's not your problem sweetie,"
There's no doubt that he was closed off at first and he didn't want to talk about what had happened but he did end up opening up to you
You being calmer than him definitely balanced him out but you do have enough energy so that he doesn't get bored of you or being around you
He likes talking to you because it calms him down and brings him back down to earth
He loves it what you're sarcastic and will commonly be sarcastic with you over random things
The moment he sees you get really hyper over something you enjoy it makes his heart flutter and he wants to continue it for as long as he can
"Lets do this!!"
You hate small talk? Well so does he! He doesn't see the point of it and will start whole ass arguments over random things
He loves seeing your reaction when he starts shit, he knows you'll try to resolve it and he finds it adorable although if it really gets to you he'll try and tone it down a bit
"Alright everybody I want a clean fight!!"
The moment you said you love music I knew that you'd two would be soulmates
You'd bond over music and he'd share all of his playlists with you. You'd also probably have a joint playlist together
He'd try to get you to dance all of the time and will try to push you out of your comfort zone
He might find the rock thing weird but explain it to him a bit and show him a cute looking rock and he'll be obsessed
"Its adorable!"
As for your epilepsy he tries to keep you away from Valentino's corner even more so (not like he wasn't trying before)
He doesn't want you to get hurt by Valentino any more than he does
He also probably keeps you away from clubs because of the lights and will opt to take you somewhere a little more chill instead
Starting a band with the Weasley Twins Headcannon
This is one of my favourite personal headcanons EVER!! rockstar Weasleys have my heart... ALSO let's pretend that time doesn't exist to the twins can listen to everything that's been released so far!
The way I imagine the beginning is the Weasleys bursting into your dorm one fine afternoon shouting your name.
"AH! WHAT THE FUCK! What do you want now?"
"You, you smelly bastard. We have muggle questions."
"Alright?"
"What's Nirvana?"
Here is where you begin to get excited as the music artists on your band posters smile down on you proudly.
The next hour you go on a rant, teaching the boys about Nirvana and grunge music.
Then you spend the rest of the night laying around your dorm, blasting Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Sonic Youth, Peral Jam, Hole, and the rest of the grungey/rock music world.
They leave aSTONISHED.
The next WHILE they ask you to introduce you to different kinds of music and teach them about different genres and their history.
Every few weeks you three decide to focus on a different music genre:
One week is psychedelic sounds of Pink Floyd
Another is on the British Punk Movement
And of course, you had to teach them about the influence of the great band The Beatles!!
One day while laying around your dorm, listening to this week's topic of Green Day George sat up out of the blue stating
"I want to learn the bass."
soon after Fred yelled "AND I WANT TO LEARN THE DRUMS"
you then asked with excitement what kind of songs they'd want to learn.
Fred mentioned how his favourite part in the song Misery Business by Paramore was the drum solo playing along to Haley William's GODLY vocals.
You then spoke: "Oh I learned that song on guitar years ago!"
"YOU CAN PLAY GUITAR???!??!?!?!?!?"
"Oh fuck, did I not tell you?"
After a solid few months of George and Fred learning their desired instruments found in their father's shed full of muggle objects, you all got together to share what you've learned.
Then the marvellous idea formed in your brains as you saw each other play your songs with passion. you then all yelled at the same time
"WE SHOULD START A BAND!"
that summer you all played and practised together. you were on guitar and lead vocals, George on lead bass, and Fred on drums (both of them being occasional backup vocals)
that summer also happened to be the summer of your 6th year. and with the influence of rockstars having such iconic hairstyles, the twins began to grow out their hair. you on the other hand cut it above shoulder length, adding streaks of your desired colour.
of course, you drove Mr. and Mrs. Weasley mad from the noise. So a curfew was set soon after you started to practise.
as for more band roles, I feel you all took your own tries at writing songs. they may all turn out terrible but hey, what's the fun in seriousness?
when 6th year came around, and you heard about the Yule Ball the three of you BEGGED Professor McGonagall to let the three of you play for everyone.
and by begged I mean down on your knees.
all you wanted was to share your love of music with everyone
McGonagall didn't want to argue and so she let you play.
the night the three of you played at the Yule Ball, you blew the entire student body away.
When everyone first heard you all were going to play, they thought you were joking as always. no one fully believed you, or if they did they didn't think you were any good. but the three of you didn't care.
either way, you proved everyone wrong that magical night.
you all loved the feeling of playing your hearts out. the heavy eyeliner (you had to teach them how to put it on), the alternative outfits you wore on stage, singing as loud as you can, playing the chords until your fingers bled. you loved every single treacherous moment.
the twins thanked you eternally for opening their lives to music.
Milgranon, hello again 🫡
Been thinking about what genres everyone's first songs would be, don't mind meeee
Yuma - I'm feeling hyperpop, bright and flashy, to accompany the visuals of the mystery labyrinth. A very upbeat tone, and the song would show some of the mysteries being solved in the labyrinth- no other context though. Each chorus would go dark for a second and show him doing the sword slice before a culprit drops dead.
Halara - Here I'm thinking the type of noir, like the old kind of detective shows? Grim and bleak visuals, and would mainly focus on them coldly accepting money, solving mysteries and beating up those who get in their way. The particular murder I imagine for them is them getting particularly angry and beating a guy so hard they break his neck, so I'm thinking there'd be a lot of people suddenly twisting their head in the MV.
Desuhiko - Rock. Rock, I'm thinking kind of fast rock. The song would focus on the split second that he made an order that he wasn't qualified for and what was racing through his mind then. I'm thinking the song focuses on the split second nature of it, using really short fast notes, and it ends super abruptly, with no warning before the instruments fade out.
Fubuki - Pop, but the kind that sounds really trauma-dumpy. The song would keep looping in on itself, reaching the chorus before the main melody goes back around 20 seconds, but the time it goes back each time decreases. The notes would reach higher and higher in pitch each time the track loops as well. Just before it goes back each time, it would show the person dying, and each loop closes in on Fubuki's face, who grows more desperate alongside the rising pitch. The song would fade out with Fubuki exhausted and unable to go back any further, just staring at the body.
Vivia - Acoustic, definitely. It would show him just living his life for the most part, in dreary colours as he trudges along. Every so often the colour become even darker before the sounds become rough and the screen goes dark for a few seconds. Then the colours return to what they were and Vivia continues going about his day. The fourth time this happens, you're able to catch a glimpse of a knife and the screen goes dark before a flatline sound can be heard and the song ends.
Yakou - Lofi, and the MV is very heavy on symbolism. The first part of the MV shows him and a bird. He cares for the bird, lovingly protecting it and shielding it from any dangers. During this section however, the image keeps flashing to what looks like a man breathing heavily while holding a knife. Halfway through, there's an explosion and it cuts to Yakou, holding a knife while looking down at something. The bird is then shown dead on the floor, with Yakou standing over it and seemingly looking somewhere else. The rest of the MV is Yakou pacing around, while flashes of the dead bird and him holding a knife are shown.
If you have any questions about any of my ideas, please feel free to ask me btw :)
OOOHHH OOUGHGH HELLO MILGRANON THIS IS SO GOOD GRAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I feel like I can't comment too much about the music specifically because I'm honestly not very knowledgeable on music even though I love it. I love ALL of this though I can picture the visuals so clearly in my brain its GREAT you're very good at showing through words!!! I also agree with all the genres and I especially love the Fubuki one where it keeps repeating and getting more desperate. Also reading Yuma's immediately made me think about Nero's Day at Disneyland? That kind of vibe fits the Mystery Labyrinth I think!!!
Im also OBSESSED with the symbolism you have for Yakou's like omg... Actually all of the symbolism and the metaphors and such you used like its so sick!!! You're making me desperately wanting this to be real /lh
But yeah this is all GREAT thank you so much for sharing I can see all of this in my brain so vividly I love it I love it.
As for like... In this alternate world where the viewers wouldn't know the characters I'm going to like. give my best guess on what people would vote them as based only on what you gave me!!
Yuma: I feel like it would be very strange, especially since it would be the first one. But I can imagine it being everyone's immediate red flag when you can actually see him swinging his sword. If you took voice dramas into account I think that would make the voting even more complicated. So I think it would be very close but for the first round he'd be Innocent. Halara: I think it would be majority Guilty. They'd probably have some very dedicated fans though who are digging up the evidence to prove they're innocent and analyzing all of the people they get their money from and all of the people they beat up... But yeah I think it'd be majority Guilty. Desuhiko: This would be one of the more difficult ones. Like I feel like it has so little information on the surface if you don't already know what's happening. Especially if his disguises are also in play. Who is this unrelated guy? Is that his victim? Is it someone he knows? I don't think any of them would reveal their Fortes to Es and by extension the viewers so it'd be very hard to tell what's happening. And I think because of that for the first round he'd be voted Innocent because there just isn't enough info to condemn him for this first trial. Fubuki: Innocent for sure. I'm sure a small group would see her as guilty, but the viewers would probably pick up pretty quickly on how desperately she was trying to undo it and how it was most likely a mistake. I think added with whatever her Voice Drama would be would paint her in a VERY sympathetic light. so I think she'd be majorly voted Innocent. Vivia: Another one that is clouded in mystery. It doesn't tell us what exactly he did, why he did it, or what any of his motivation was. It just lets us know that, yes, he did in fact kill someone. I think the parts where it starts to go dark would be very heavily analyzed and could be taken in so many different ways by viewers. Taking the Voice Drama into account and how we talked about how he would be mostly honest but very very non descriptive. Everyone would just know that he wanted to live peacefully, and whoever it is he killed got in the way of that, but there isn't a lot of information. So all of that to say... I think it would be another close one, but ultimately he'd end up as Guilty. That said I think he'd be like a fan favorite. Yakou: I think with how symbolic his first MV would be, he'd also be very hotly debated among the fans. People would debate what the explosion means. If the explosion is what actually killed the bird and if the knife is a misdirect. But at the same time it very obviously shows him standing over that bird with a knife, so it's VERY easy to draw your own conclusions that whoever this bird represents must be his victim, because no one else appears in this specific MV. So that HAS to be his victim and he killed it, right? Did he mean to do it? No one really knows. But I think he'd be voted majority Guilty.
all of the fan theories would be WILD too like I can imagine all of the long tumblr analysis posts and theories and people pointing out details n stuff.
But if you agree or disagree with any of my reasoning please let me know!! This is so much fun to come up with I love seeing your asks and chatting about this!!!
okay hi. i hate being succinct (like someone that starts with alex and ends with bitch) but here are my summarized first thoughts on the album
mirrorball: hooked me in from first listen when it was released as a single, that repeating motif underneath the whole thing, the melancholy that seeps from the music and the lyrics, those strings at the end and alex's falsetto spat in my face and called me a bitch. 9.5/10
i ain't quite: it's good, it's a good song. the "waaa" harmony def scratches an itch, and the best part of the whole thing is "the spare set of tingles will race up your spine if i get it my way" but it kinda feels like it's building towards something that never quite delivers nvjdnjdnf maybe that's the intention. but you know. it's good but my least fave so far. 7/10
sculptures: WHAT IN THE HOLY FUCK IS THIS. god jvfnjdkjkcnfjnfj i'll never ever forget the first time i listened to this. my jaw was on the fucking floor. the instrumentals are orgasmic. fucking period. it made me cry And made me horny. alex's vocal delivery and the lyrics paired with the music give me such a pleasant eerie feeling if that makes sense. "gasp [gasp!] and roll your eyes" is so vndnjfnfjnjf and i'm fucking incoherent towards an indie rock British band Arctic Monkeys (tm) song having an honest to god bass drop. never ever thought this would be a direction they'd be interested in but i'm so glad they are. 10/10
jet skis: i've only had this song for a day and a half and if anything happened to it i'd kill everyone in this room and then myself. the funk-ish blues-ish tone of the guitar is my best friend. alex's voice is a warm hug. the lyrics are sooooo bittersweet. this is the one that stuck with the most after my first listen (along with sculptures ofc), "jet skis on the moat / they shot it all in cinemascope" (with the instrumentals underneath!) is such an earworm. 9.5/10
body paint: body paint. how do i even begin to explain body paint. alex's voice is really impressive in this, the chorus and the solo in the end fucking scalp me every time (also loved it from first listen as a single like mirrorball). the lyricssssssssssssssss kill me. i'm a sucker for the persona/character/double life thing, i've said it a hundred times lol so i'm def biased towards it. the only thing that keeps me from giving it a 10 is that they gave me a taste of what a full on out of the water true rock n roll outro sounds like in the live shows (esp the brussels one) and they took it away from me here, but i do understand why it's more subdued in the studio too as it fits the overall vibe of the album more. so. 9.5/10
the car: if this song was just the folk-ish fingerpicking (GOD THE FINGERPICKING) and drums motif it would still be amazing but they went beyond. FOR US. that distorted guitar at the end paired with the haunting strings is very climatic. i def still need some time with the words to maybe get closer to what he's getting at but i love them! 9/10
big ideas: i love you big ideas i love you. the piano stabs and the darker strings (cello and double bass) particularly stand out to me and tick me in such a specific way. god i can't. i've talked about the lyrics (it's been like a week and i already have matured my opinion on them nfjnjfvn) which are heartbreaking in a beautiful way. the crunchy guitar solo is heavenly. alex's chuckle after "we had them out of their seats" shot me right between the eyes. 9.5/10
hello you: oh why hello tlsp song what are you doing around these parts jnjfjnfvjg that keyboard thingy that opens it and that appears again in the chorus (how i wish i knew music theory lol) is very pleasing and the guitar backs it up beautifully. ALEX'S VOICE;;;; def a stand out in the album (esp "why not rewind to rawborough snooker club" godddddddddd). i also need some more time with the lyrics in this one to get more what's he's talking about here but i have my theories and they're devastating fvjfvnjgn. 9.5/10
mr schwartz: finger fucking picking man. but surprisingly my fave part about this track are the drums! i love how retro they sound. reminds me of some sort of specific 40s-60s vibe i'm not well versed enough in to pinpoint exactly what it is or what it'd be called. def bossa nova but not Just bossa nova you know? the lyrics are about the persona/character/double life thing so yeah yeah ofc i love them and the way they break my heart. great song. 9/10
perfect sense: this song sounds like a goodbye. need i say more????? "if that's what it takes for me to say good night then that's what it takes" what a fucking Gorgeous melody my god. this one also sounds like it had the potential to crescendo into a grandiose orchestral solo moment in the outro and then it didn't, which i'm still scratching my head about but i'm not that mad about it, bc in the end it's just such a sweet sweet tune (bittersweet, but more sweet than bitter i think). i love the way it sounds i love the way it makes me feel. they just get how to do closers man, they do! 9.5/10
How great is Wonderland by Big Country? I love everything about it! :)
Literally...literally you said what I think every single time I listen to that song.
But because I am me, I cannot just leave it that.
This song is so ridiculously good that I would now shamelessly suggest that it's one of the greatest songs ever written - not just one of Big Country's greatest songs (although it is certainly a triumph in that regard, as well), but one of the greatest. Like, period. And my pessimistic, critical ass is not about to throw that suggestion around for just anything.
So please let me shine my little analytical light on what a beautiful, amazing, and frankly perfect song this is.
First off, every time I listen to this song on repeat, the first 25 seconds of it makes it all worth it to hear on repeat 30+ times in a row - the light percussion and the ringing, most consistent guitar riff (played by Bruce Watson), followed quickly by that BIG-ASS drum sound courtesy of good production choices and Mark Brzezicki that is just so fucking good and, from my listening perspective of Big Country's first five albums, a rather trademark sound for them, and then that chugging hard rock guitar riff (played by Stuart Adamson)...literally what better way is there to bait and hook a listener who loves rock music? Oh, and then of course Stuart comes in with that BEAUTIFUL "Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh-ohhhhh" semi-screamed/yelled opening that is so full of admirable effort that you can forgive the scream (if, like me, you're not a fan of hearing men screaming in music) and the brief lil' crack in his voice which I actually find so endearing...you bet I was fucking hooked from the moment I heard this song!
Musically, and it took me far too long to realize/notice this, Watson's guitar riff and Tony Butler's bassline work together startlingly well to emulate the sense of wonderland – something vaguely dreamy or dream-like that underscores everything more aggressive and subjectively overwhelming as Adamson's guitar riffs and Mark Brzezicki's drums. It's an incredible balance of 'Here's what the ideal (also known as wonderland) sounds like' versus 'Here's what reality is,' and it's displayed quite effectively in the arrangement. You can also hear this idea even better in the 12" mix, as all of the instrumentation is far less restrained and the volume of the vocals is also turned up to better hear the harmonies punctuating the hopefulness of wonderland. (Not to mention that the 12" mix offers the fantastic opportunity to hear Butler's genius bass playing more isolated, and Brzezicki's drums sound positively WILD. It also incorporates Adamson's delicately played guitar riff that often introduced "Wonderland" in Big Country's live performances.)
Now, when it comes to the verses, which, as this often happens to me when I write something like a lyric analysis, I have changed my mind about how well they describe the intentions of the song, I plan to lay out how the verses don't just present evocative, unique, thoughtful imagery, but how they also paint the writer's idea of wonderland effectively.
So for the first verse we have:
"If you could feel how I must feel The winds of quiet change If you could see what I must see Still hidden in the rain But when the thunder rolls It comes and covers up my soul"
With lines like "If you could feel how I must feel –/The winds of quiet change," and (my favorite, even though it metaphorically makes no sense to me) "But when the thunder rolls/It comes and covers up my soul," the narrator clearly has an idea of what wonderland could be like (the former lines), all while voicing the reality of...well, reality (in the latter lines). Because not only is he certain he feels "the winds of quiet change" and that he sees what is "still hidden in the rain," his idea of wonderland is someone not just believing these things, but knowing (feeling and seeing) them as confidently as he does. I don't always say this in my lyric analyses (which I regret, because I'd love for these analyses to spark discussions!!), but if anyone has any thoughts especially about what "But when the thunder rolls/It comes and covers up my soul" means, I'd love to hear it, because as it is, I struggle every time to envision how thunder "covers up [one's] soul" (I'm also kind of obsessed with those lines, in a way because I struggle with them so much) so I imagine it's really a metaphor for something I'm not seeing/thinking of, so other perspectives would be especially appreciated! Also, ignore the irony in that. Or maybe it's what the songwriters intended. LOL
The next two verses continue to reinforce what the narrator's version of wonderland looks like - so on lyrical themes and imagery alone, I'd call this song completely successful.
"If you could hear what I must hear Then nothing would replace The fifty years of sweat and tears That never left a trace But when I look at you I see you feel the same way too"
The first part of the verse is one of my favorite lyrics in the song: "If you could hear what I must hear/Then nothing would replace/The fifty years of sweat and tears/That never left a trace" because it is clear here that what the narrator means is 'I don't want this reality of fifty years of sweat and tears not leaving a trace – I wish this had made its mark actually, and I wish everyone acknowledged it!' If it wasn't already clear from the first verse what he meant, we come to understand that the narrator's idea of wonderland is not needing to wonder about the future (because of the way the past was neglected), because in his version of wonderland, the past was never neglected - it was properly acknowledged, felt, seen, and heard, and that knowledge and those feelings were built upon to create the future that wonderland represents. Finally, not only does the narrator evoke empathy through the lyrics "But when I look at you/I see you feel the same way too," but it continues to reinforce what his idea of wonderland is like, and how it represents what reality could be like.
In the final, heartachingly beautiful verse, we get:
“You still remember other days When every head was high I watched that pride be torn apart Beneath a darker sky With innocence within ourselves We sing the same old song ”
To be honest, I would strongly consider getting "With innocence within ourselves/We sing the same old song" as a tattoo, but, highly subjective feelings aside, this verse is the most interesting yet because the perspective abruptly changes in the very first line of the verse to narrate "You still remember other days when every head was high" before switching back to first person, "I watched that pride be torn apart beneath a darker sky." The first line makes me ask: 'Who remembers other days when every head was high?' We're led to believe via the following line that the perspective in the first line is someone of a previous/older generation, and the narrator asserts that it is his generation who has witnessed the fall of said pride. The final lines of the verse beautifully illustrate his generation's hope, nonetheless: "With innocence within ourselves/We sing the same old song"; by relating to each other through a child-like optimism (the stage of life everyone goes through, when they're as innocent as can be, and the ironic use of "we sing the same old song," which is recognizing that everyone once knew that feeling of innocence and optimism and it can and should be harnessed again, now), it should rally their momentum to create their ideal future or wonderland. (ALSO, to get meta for a moment, I used the term "rally" very purposely, because musically, during the duration of those lines in the song specifically, Brzezicki strategically plays a militaristic-reminiscent drum roll there!) However, the proceeding two lines of the chorus are really what reinforce those last two lines of the verse - "And you will take my hand/And make believe it's wonderland", because 'make believe' is most often referred to as something that children play at (and, generally speaking, it's something that children do unrestrained with very little inspiration needed – they create their own inspiration).
Reaching what I'm going to refer to as the pre-chorus (I can't say if that's a legitimate descriptor of these two lines that beautifully connect the verses to the chorus, but that's what I'm calling it), I will analyze it here separately from the rest of the chorus. In short, in the pre-chorus "And you will take my hand/[and be with me in/make believe it's] wonderland," 'wonderland' acts most overtly as a mechanism of escapism, although, based on all of the verses (and where I mentioned 'reality/what is') prior to the choruses, we see/understand why that escapism is so necessary. At the same time, wonderland still, nonetheless, is a place or (from what I've analyzed so far) future to endeavor to, and from "And you will take my hand/And be with me in wonderland", it's clearly meant to be a collective effort to cultivate reality into this ideal.
Now for the chorus where I absolutely, shamelessly swoon:
“I am an honest man I need the love of you I am a working man I feel the winter too”
To state what this chorus illustrates through a meme: it's called vulnerability. Look it up. Maybe you'll discover something wonderful. *coughs* Really, the chorus is simply a display of vulnerability, WHICH – YES, I'M GOING TO SAY IT – IS NOT POPULARLY SHOWN BY MEN, particularly vulnerability that is not demonstrated manipulatively (aka receiving benefits that are not mutually shared by the demonstration of vulnerability; an example of that would be men who think that being emotionally vulnerable with women entitles them to sex), and from the pre-chorus alone we know that nothing less than reciprocity is expected, so it does bear acknowledging. In the rhythm of the chorus, supported by the overtly skipped beat by the drums and the bass that punctuates each line, the chorus sounds a lot like a list of how he describes himself - 'I: am an honest man, need the love of you, am a working man, feel the winter too.' It could also be understood as the ways in which he pursues the ideal world of wonderland (being honest, utilizing love, and actively working toward it) while admitting the barriers or seasons/cycles of negativity that exist to stall his efforts. The reason why I see the line "I feel the winter, too" as a barrier is because, to put this idea into context with the rest of the song, which I feel is also supported by context present in many other Big Country songs (easy context to find, though, such as in "In a Big Country"), it is a metaphor for depression and anxiety – "the winter" represents a state of being (mentally, emotionally, and physically) that freeze one's endeavor to create the ideal world/state of reality that is implied by wonderland. I also see the last line possibly being read ambiguously, as though mutually acknowledging that he and whoever he is singing to (in the line "I need the love of you") both "feel the winter". Regardless, the last line is aptly positioned as the final line in the chorus, because it acknowledges that progress is often not linear, as though to say that if one looks back at where one has been (and remembers all of the motives that keep one moving forward), it actually is easier to see where one needs to go; it is as hopeless a line as the rest of the song is hopeful, which is a reminder that the rest of the song is hopeful.
All that to say: a perfect song may not exist, but this surely comes close to being, if it is not wholly, one of the greatest songs ever written. Does that evidence suffice? :)
Ive been having your nsr submas idea brainrot for a few days and wanted to share some dust bunnies if that's ok??? -Ingo and Emmet are in charge of main transportation trains so they could be one of the final bosses in NSR, they're not big enough musicians to be in charge of an entire district underneath but they're powerful enough to be in charge of the transportation in between the districts? OR maybe since Elesa is here she could be on the train headed towards her own district -Cliff sends bunk bed junction to take down the trains, something about how it will help with their goals of the revolution. I imagine this could happen later in the game when the duo is starting to question a bit about what they are doing. It's also a double hit if Elesa is involved that they won't have to fight Elesa on her own turf. The only issue would be the subway twins who are known for being vigilant musicians and conductors and are known for being pseudo-bodyguards for Elesa and also her best friends (or maybe, the best friends part is something the duo learn about during the fight) -The boss fight against the Submas Twins could be in three stages, Ingo being first as he is Singles, maybe his main weapon is a trumpet/whistle that he commands the lights with. Stage 2 is when he swaps with Emmet with a keytar, who given being doubles can probably output damage, maybe even manipulate electric lines to attack the duo? And Stage 3 is Ingo rejoining Emmet, and they both fight together -ALTERNATIVELY with Elesa Stage 1 could be Ingo doing direct hits while Emmet is manipulating the trains on the side to ensure there isn't as much damage to the train, Stage 2 is Emmet joining Ingo after realizing that maybe if they take down the bunk bed duo that it will end everything. Elesa comes out as Stage 3 and could be like what's going on guys the trains are being rattled! And sees the bunk bed duo and joins in with her EDM skills seeing her twin friends in trouble -Boss fight ends and the trains are damaged. Thankfully, no one got hurt, but while Emmet is extremely upset about the damage to the trains, Ingo is scolding the duo that people could have gotten hurt with their actions, and that no amount of petty infighting about EDM vs rock could be worth it. Thanks to BBJ, now the trains are running slower between the districts, and Elesa's loss is also broadcasted -BBJ starts to wonder if what they did was a good thing after the scolding, but Cliff reassures them what they did is temporary cause hey! No one got hurt! And now the city's energies aren't being diverted to the pesky train system, and also Elesa's district won't be under her control for a while given she is stuck in the train system
-Ingo potentially wielding a trumpet given his loudness and also I think he has the breath to play woodwind instruments while Emmet plays a digital keytar since he is very physically active, and Elesa could be an EDM mixer (i have no ideas on music)
I really hope you enjoy these!!! I needed to get them out and I didn't know how but I want you to know I love your au because it mashed both of my hyperfixations into one >.<
Considering the metro division does have a metro (or at least something of the sorts that you can unlock with level 3 fans) its most likely that someone does oversee the transportation inbetween the districts (I'd assume under neon j / 1010 considering they hold the power over the charter. So by technicality employed under neon j but in general employed by nsr.
For Elesa I'd go for one of the top models for Eve's works so definitely part of the dream fever district.) Think of like a dk west type of boss where you can't go past them until it's dealt with and at later times (as in after the neon j / 1010 fight( you can fight them again (like slowing down the trains, they fix them, etc until you finally break the trains down). Also like dk west they do have their own fans (probably similar to dk west in that they rival b2j in ways) but not big enough to join nsr or to take over a charter. I mean elesa probably could show up in the second fight under Eve's orders (moreso tatiana asking eve to go check it out and then eve telling elesa to check it out bc she's busy w her duties) .
Considering at this point they just fought a child and they're about to fight a boy band and a military veteran like it's understandable they'd have second thoughts. Though considering how far they've come they can't exactly back down, though it's not like nsr is totally innocent considering the blackouts (which have equally hurt the train station. Despite being under the metro charter they do not have the charters backup generators. This means that both Emmet and Ingo have to power the station with music. They're in the same boat that b2j are in, it's just they think that nsr is trying their hardest to make sure the city thrives through order.)
The thought of emmet and mayday smacking eachother with guitars is funny though. For some reason my mind went to a dj deck for elesa (ignore djss he exists here but sh) mostly because I thought it'd be cool + to kinda go with how zuke can have his drums etc that materializes out of nowhere (idk how to describe it other than the dude does not carry a full drumset with him but it certainly appears there w his powers (?)/ the music). That or she throws vinyl records at you which is equally as dangerous. Trumpet ingo is very fitting so spot on with that head canon!
Also I love getting asks over this au and both submas and nar in general! It's literally the highlights of my day and it actually helps me flesh out the au a lot more (depending on if I go with them as bosses or as them taking the place of b2j with volo's guidance. He'll even a second music revolution against the new nsr under volo's lead, mostly tricking the three to win against b2j and ho forward to fight nsr)
i love lord huron! what are the songs you've been listening to?
oh hiiiiiii! hello!
um. long post below. I have so many lord huron thoughts ahahahah
not to be the most insufferable person known to humankind but I've been listening to them since lonesome dreams (2012) and it is STILL my favorite album by them! even though strange trails (2015) is an absolute masterpiece and also incredible!
unfortch ben has taken the band's sound in a direction that I think is a bit more ballad-y (which I kind of blame on the popularity of "the night we met" :/ thanks 13 re*sons why) and also less lush (like... the instrumentation on lonesome dreams and strange trails is so layered and textured and brings in these evocative, atmospheric sounds that create such velvety soundscapes...)
I enjoyed vide noir (2018) but it is NOT in my listening rotation at all, though I really enjoy "lost in time and space" and both parts of "ancient names."
when it comes to long lost (2021) I found the record palatable but forgettable. I feel like they've lost some of the unique sounds that really MADE their music. the theremin in strange trails was an inspired choice, for example. long lost incorporates a lot of strings, which I do like in music, but that's kind of it. it's just sort-of-standard slow, ballad-y rock.
what happened to the literal sounds of the ocean and the jungle drums that were in the Mighty EP? that HAUNTING harmonica and cymbals in lonesome dreams? the HOWLING? the theremin, castanets, and crackling old radio sounds from strange trails (their dorky little homemade old radio they lugged around for the strange trails tour was so cute). all these elements added SOOOO much to the music! they were my favorite band (and maybe still are, my answer depends on the day) for so long.
lord huron used to have this really dreamy soundscape and they have LOST IT and I am SAD ABOUT IT. I'm so glad I saw them twice during the strange trails tour. I also saw them more recently during the long lost tour and while I didn't love the setlist as much, ben's stage presence has really improved and he seemed very comfortable, which was nice!
OKAY ENOUGH WHINING here's my lord huron favorites:
again, I love lonesome dreams The Most (it's The Album of My Heart) and I lowkey have a whole fic idea inspired by it. listening to "The Ghost on the Shore" on the banks of Lake Huron at the twilight hour last summer was a transformative experience for me.
I could eat that whole album but my favorites are totally "Lonesome Dreams," "Lullaby," "Brother," and "The Man Who Lives Forever." all four of those have been on heavy rotation this summer. I was also really grateful when they released "Setting Sun" on spotify finally so I could stop listening to it on youtube lol.
as for strange trails, "Fool for Love" ran in my veins for my entire college career but I deeply love the whole album. "Meet Me in the Woods," "Hurricane," and "Way out There" are some of my favorites, but I also think "The World Ender" is inspired.
idk what I love most about any piece of media is it having that specific quality that grabs you by the yoke and yanks you into its world, and I think ben struck gold with the first two albums (and the mighty EP), which have such developed and distinctive soundscapes that fully immerse you into the literal story he's trying to tell. his comic book for the events of strange trails is deeply endearing to me haha. idk I'm SOOOOO normal about this band and what they were doing with their early work. I really am curious about where the band will go next!
“The music is all around us. All you have to do is listen”- Freddy Highmore, August Rush
Good Morning beautiful people! Everyone loves music….yeah, actually everyone.
Isn't it the coolest thing when you can find people that listen to the same type of music as you do?
When one person enjoys jazz(my papaw), one enjoys electronic dance music(YALL), one or two enjoy native american flute music(my spa peeps), and some more enjoy Simon & Garfunkel(my old-er peeps.) That's when you see  the universal language of music has now brought together different cultures, ideas, and personalities.
Music has been around since the dawn of time. It's also evolutionary….Just like we are. We as humans evolve into different versions of ourselves as we grow and mature into adults. Our musical preferences change and grow too. I can't imagine you were listening to Buddy Bolden(African-American jazz pioneer from New Orleans), when you were five years old. If you were…you had some dope parents! Your parents and your surroundings subjected you to different types of music, people and places. You know what's cool though? When you find someone else who also listens to Buddy Bolden…and knows his history- you now have a new friend.
I have curated sooooo many relationships over music. I once fell in love with someone from Sweden over music….it's an entire feeling yall. He had music I had never heard before, and we bonded over that. Still friends to this day!  When you find the music that takes your breath away, and makes the hair on your neck stand up….that's magic. That's love in my opinion. And yeah…music makes me extremely emotional when it hits right.
I was in a band (YEAH- Im a total band geek through and through) for eight years. I remember they came in during 5th grade and asked us to try and make noise through all these brass instruments….Im not a brass person…LOL. I found my home with the clarinet. I think I was the 6th generation clarinet player? Fam…help me out with that one. No clue…but the clarinet is cool…I still have a hard time “hearing the beat” when reading music for the first time ....but once I hear the tune, I'm golden. Someone has to play the tune for me to hear….communicating musically…universal language. Music is the best.
Music has let me live through a lot of trauma in my life as well. I'm sure several of you reading this know exactly what I'm talking about here. If you dont…next time you feel happy, play a sad song…see what happens. Your entire mood shifts. Your brain was like….uhm, HALP!
This is also where this blog may offend you….hang in with me…
I remember being young in church, standing proudly and singing with my gran and papaw to songs like, “ How Great Thou Art”, and I would secretly stop singing so I could hear them sing together. It is still to this day one of my favorite church memories. Papaw's voice is super deep like the ocean, and gran…your voice is honestly angelic. You two are incredible people. Love you very much. I haven't been to church, or listened to any type of that musical genre since I was young.
I remember riding to the campground in Bellefontaine,Ohio listening to the emo punk rock band,  My Chemical Romance,  with a friend. We didn't listen to it quietly either. We also were not sober when we would listen to it….at the time…I thought that was the best part. Not being sober, and being able to “lose “ myself in music. I didn't want to be in reality at that time of my life ...loud music got me through though…and so did my friend. Unfortunately, we fell out permanently. We had different paths, and that's okay. In hindsight, we both had each other …through one of the hardest, and unimaginable times in both our lives. Still a universal language, and musical communication.
I remember hearing a man sing Disney songs in his truck- because he couldn't have know Disney music! I later married that man. He introduced me to Boyce Avenue(cover band), Journey….whew…this one is hard. Damn, I said two sentences, and I forgot how to type.
You got it Vic, keep moving.
 I remember him acting an absolute idiot singing AeroSmith. This person is now my ex-husband. I fell in love with him over Disney music. The reason…my favorite childhood memory is watching Little Mermaid over and over again until the VHS Tape couldn't play anymore. He knew every word to not just Little Mermaid…all of em. He was a disney fanatic too.  That was all it took for me...I'm not sure he even knows that. I am very thankful for that small gift of musical communication…it united us. We are still supportive friends to this very day. Love you dude. Thank you.
All of these musical memories have history, language, love, rage and vulnerability attached to them.
Each one a catalyst to the other in my own personal timeline.
Each is a universal language that someone else understood during a time.
In closing, music has saved my life more than once. Well cats too, but we aint talking about them yet. If you ever find yourself in the deepest depths of yourself and you feel like you can't claw your way out…try music. Just try it …see if it speaks to you.
I bet it will.
“La música es hermosa”
“Muzyka jest piekna”
“Muziki ni mzuri”
Yeah…its spanish, polish, and Swahili….get some education! I'm kidding of course…but while you're still here…go look up some polish music ….it's the coolest!
Peace!
hey idk if the lore is gonna take a toll on you but in case it does this is my formal request to learn about spiderling family/relationship culture because i know you like worldbuilding
this has been sitting here for forever and I kept saying "yeah I'll get around to it once I've sat down in the shower for a lil and thought out some ideas" and then ya know what happened? Bad lore and a bad finale, that's what. But ah well we live, we do so soulfully try.
ANYWAY. LORE ABOUT THE SPOODER HYBRIDS.
Spider hybrids, also know as arachnids and spiderlings, are a species of humanoid that are most commonly found in subterranean cave environments. They are known for a rich culture of threadwork and a history that is told through delicately detailed tapestries, as well as for their beautiful sounding string music and string instruments that produce a sound oft compared to a phoenix's mournful cry with how sweet and sorrowful the sound is from finely tuned arachnid silk.
They are culture that generally prefers to keep familial fairs private yet extravagant. The majority of their wedding customs are focused less on parties and weddings and fancy dresses, and moreso on the finer things, such as food, as well as jewelry to be adorned onto the betroths when it comes time to say their vows. Vows are less so read as speeches between them and an officiate and are more like personal promise. You'll get less of a "do you ____" "I do" and more a "I hope our life is ____ and ____ and promise to do all that I can to show you my love for all of our days, as many as we may have."
Rings are uncommon as being part of wedding ceremonies.
This is due to the risk of fingers getting caught on rocks and crags whenever spiderlings traverse the walls of the caves so many of their towns and cities are built in.
Things like earrings and necklaces are much more common. And in place of a veil, whoever may wish to be seen as the "bride" for lack of a better term will often wear a beaded crown of silk as part of their ensemble for their special day. This is an older tradition, tho, as is falling out of style.
All in all, spiderlings like to keep any major familial event easy, humble, and overall very quiet.
This translates to the general way family culture is. Kids live with their parents, parents do whatever craft or trade they need to take care of the kids. All in all it's very connivence based. When you live deep underground, you tend not to stress about appearance or status or anything of that sort. The concept of "family honor" that's often found in other cultures is very alien to most spiderlings, who were too busy as children learning to climb without clinging onto their parents' hips to ever worry about how their grades reflected on their parents to even think up such a thing.
i spent most of thistalking about weddings but i hope this was Worth The Wait So Very Long And Much Of It :")
