911 Spoilers Season 5: You’ve been warned. 😅 Buddie Rewatch
Episode 2: Desperate Times
Helicopter Organ Rescue- The 118 are standing on the ground looking up at the helicopter. Eddie is the one to point out the helicopter is being help up because of washing cables, but that the cables are giving out.
Bobby is screaming out to Chim that what they need for this rescue and Buck screams back, confirming that they aren’t going to be waiting for all the supplies to start this rescue. Bobby confirms they aren’t waiting and sends Hen and Buck to check the cabin. While Eddie and Bobby enter the helicopter. The call out doesn’t end up matching what actually happens.
I think the writers or maybe director realized it made more sense for the man with military training and whose been in a helicopter before be the one to turn off the helicopter. If I remember correctly, Eddie was also the one to turn off the helicopter in Taylor’s rescue from Season 2 (I love that I can just go back to my notes to confirm stuff like this.)
Instead, Eddie is the first one in the helicopter with a fire extinguisher, taming any flames inside, Hen enters behind and starts to examine one of the victims. Eddie is also pressing buttons and flipping switches, turning off the helicopter.
As the helicopter is shutting off, the helicopter is shifting away from the building. Buck and Bobby hold on to the helicopter, trying to keep it from falling, Eddie catches himself and stops himself from flying out of the helicopter.
Buck pulls the pilot out and Eddie and Hen are still inside trying to help the other victim. Chim passes down the back board. Buck is standing on the roof and helicopter, acting similarly to a bridge, helping pass items back and forth.
As soon as the last victim is out, the helicopter shifts again, Eddie almost flying out for a second time, catches himself. As the helicopter settles, Hen climbs out and Eddie right behind her. This is when Bobby decides to pull a risky stunt and goes into the helicopter alone to retrieve the heart.
The entire 118 hold on to the rope that Bobby uses to lower himself. Buck is continuously yelling out to Bobby, telling him to hurry. The washing cable that was holding the helicopter up finally snaps. We get a close shot of Buck screaming Cap, the 118 bracing and pulling on the rope, Bobby dangling in the air with the container in hand, as the helicopter falls to the ground and explodes.
Bobby is pulled up into safety.  The doctor appears on the roof, comments on how amazing the rescue was, but that they are still in the dark. Eddie responds with they’ll start working on the generators next. Motions over at Buck and Buck follows behind, stating the power will be back in no time.
Station 118 in the dark: Buck has a clip board! He’s with Ravi, explaining the rules of signing out a portable charger to Chim. Buck is very serious in this moment.
Chimney demands the charger, and warns Buck that if he does hand over the charger, he will not see his niece. Buck reluctantly gives Chimney the charger.
Eddie walks down the stairs. Chris and Ana are walking in, Chirs screams out to Eddie and Eddie excitedly walks over lifting Chris up in an embrace, asking why they are there.
Chris states that they wanted to bring him food, Eddie gives Ana a side kiss on the cheek, as he states that they didn’t have to do that. Ana explains that Chris insisted and starts to hand Eddie two bags with different kinds of salads after Eddie places Chris back on the ground.
Chris says, “Hi Buck” and Buck runs over stating, “Looks like the new Chief is here” scooping Chris back off the ground in an embrace. They both giggle as Buck puts him back on the ground.
Eddie is looking over at Buck and Chris hug and registers that Ravi is standing there. Eddie takes that moment to introduce Ravi to Chris. There is an awkward pause and Ana introduces her self to Ravi. Buck looks at Eddie, there is a confused expression on Buck’s face.
Buck is basically really confused as to why Eddie is not introducing his girlfriend properly; Eddie seems to be too focused on Chris at the moment to realize the expression.
Ravi vocalizes his assumption that Ana is Eddie’s wife. Eddie snaps his head up at looks at Ravi with a confused look. Chris tells Ravi, “No, not yet.” In an excited tone.
There is a longer awkward pause. Eddie is looking around like a dear in headlights. Ana breaks the silence and comments about how amazing the station looks, even in the dark. Buck continues to look at Eddie with an expression of confusion and concern.
Eddie finally snaps back into reality, makes the realization that Ana has never been to the station before and asks Ravi to give her a tour as he puts the salads away. Ana gives off a courteous smile and follows Ravi as Eddie runs up the stairs. Ravi calls over to Chris and invites him along. Buck is standing in the middle of the station, visibly confused, trying to process what just happened.
I felt really bad for Ana in this moment. An awkward blank stare is definitely not the reaction you want to see from your boyfriend when someone addresses you as his wife. If that was me, I would most likely start to tear up, decline the tour and just make an excuse to leave. Ana was super aware of how uncomfortable Eddie became and it likely did not help that her boyfriend’s best friend also looked taken aback by the reaction. His panic was not subtle in the slightest.
Animal Control: Buck is asking what kind of animal, Bobby slightly annoyed repeats to Buck that they do not know what kind of animal is involved in this rescue.  Buck verbalizes his confusion on why they have to handle helping wrangle in loose zoo animals. He doesn’t understand why animal control can’t take care of this call.
Everyone in the truck looks slightly annoyed. Bobby explains that Animal control is too busy and they need help. Eddie chimes in and states how animal control tranquilized the lion that was loose.
Buck doubles down and explains his stance. He’s confused, because this isn’t like the time Eddie and him had to catch a turkey. The L.A. Zoo has serious predators and they may not even have the right gear to handle these animals.
As Buck starts to list some of the predators the zoo has, Eddie chimes in about how Buck has taken Chris to the zoo all the time and how Buck has the zoo memorized.
Learning that Chris and Buck have their own personal relationship outside of Eddie is so sweet to think about. The fact that Buck has the zoo memorized is just indicates that Buck and Chris spend a lot of time together.
Buck continues to go off about the dangerous animal they can be dealing with and how Chimps can be so violent they can rip faces off. Hen tells Buck to just smile. Buck does not smile, he looks concerned as he looks over to Eddie, who gives him the biggest cheesiest smile.
They are off the truck walking through the road covered in deserted cars. Eddie with an axe in his hand following right behind Bobby. Buck is to the far left of Bobby, with a crowbar on his shoulder, being very cautious as he walks.
Buck is staring down all the animals he’s walking past. The 118 pauses and looks up at a few giraffes that walk past them. Buck looks over at Bobby with the same confused concerned face he loves to give.
Eddie and Chim are instructed to stay outside and help the victim they found. Bobby and Hen are heading into the shop.  Buck is instructed to control the animals. He is very hesitant to do so, but takes his crow bar and stand in a scared fighting position ready to fight off any animal that approaches them .
Outside near the trucks, Buck and Eddie are putting away tools. Buck is questioning Bobby about running away from an alpaca. His tone is slightly judgmental as he stands near Eddie being slightly cocky. (It’s like Buck thinks we all forgot how afraid he was at the start of the rescue.)
Bobby corrects Buck. Stating there was two alpacas and no running. Eddie and Buck, nod at Bobby’s correction. Eddie’s nod being particularly sassy. Eddie and Buck laugh as Bobby tells them to get back into the truck.
Station 118 during the day: Eddie is laying on his back in a cot in the middle of the station. Buck is standing over him asking if he’s asleep or just pretending. Eddie responds with he was trying to up until Buck interrupted him.
Buck sits down on a chair next to Eddie, admitting he’s exhausted. He proceeds to ask Eddie how he is feeling. Eddie responds with hot and sweaty. This prompts Buck to ask for confirmation that it’s not a cold sweat and asking about chest pain.
Eddie looks over at Buck, slightly annoyed, stating, “You don’t give up, do you.” Eddie repeats that he is fine. Buck argues with him that people who are fine do not see cardiologists.
Buck is stern in this moment, telling Eddie that he needs to let him know if something is wrong. This gets Eddie to sit up and admit to Buck that he had a panic attack, not a heart attack, implying it’s not a big deal.
Buck reacts to the information with doubt asking Eddie “Since when do you panic?” Eddie agrees with Buck, that he doesn’t panic, but in that moment he did. Buck starts to want to dissect the moment, asking what may have triggered the reaction, suggesting almost dying to a gun shot is a reasonable explanation.
Eddie quickly denying the shooting being the trigger and admitting that Ana is likely the thing that caused him to panic. Buck is very confused by this admission, believing that everything with Ana was going great.
Eddie admits that Ana is amazing. She has been very helpful through out all of this and that may be the reason why she causes him to panic. He’s not ready for the ready-made family he can have with her.
Buck asks Eddie what he’s going to do about the situation, Eddie suggests sticking it out. He begins to list the reasons why he should stay. Buck quickly tells Eddie that “sticking it out” is not the way you talk about the person you love. Suggesting Eddie is not in love with Ana. Eddie announces that Chris loves her. Buck asks him if that is enough.
Buck admits to Eddie that he has been in Ana’s position before and how terrible that situation was for him. He tells Eddie that deep down he knew the person he loved didn’t love him back the same way and that pretending it’s not true hurts more than just accepting the truth.
Buck continues to tell Eddie that if he cares for Ana at all, he needs to be honest with her and tell her the truth. Eddie believes Buck’s advise is too much for the moment and lays back down.
Buck is passive aggressive as he tells Eddie there is no rush in making a decision, it’s not like they will be leaving the station anytime soon, as he gets up and walks away from Eddie.

i live for the headcannon that the Buckley are secretly loaded/ royal/ or anything in between (not that the sibling want to hide, but that has never came up on any conversation, tbh)
Buck and Maddie often forget they are quite, different, from the majority of people. just small details, not that everyone could picked up right away. but if you has been around them for long enough, you’ll start to notice something
- how they carried themselves with authorities and confidences
- how they are used to have all eyes on them, they attract others so naturally
(the Buckley lay low from mass media, they have their means to be basically invisible from the public eyes)
- how they had never really cared about money or how much they are paid
- how they just don’t look at the price tags during their groceries run
(this had caused Bobby a tiny panic attack when he sent Buck to grab ingredients and things for the garden BBQ, he saw the bill and almost faint, while buck just stood there and gave his best puppy eyes)
- how they can just go to places and no one will bat their eyes or ask anything
- how they are very generous with people they care for and love
(Buck spent a small fortune on Christ’s present and Eddie does not need to know about that, the man already has a lot on his hand, there is no need for him to freak out more than that. tbf, Buck thought it was normal to spend that much, especially when he see Christ’s face lighted up when the kid received his new telescope)
- they own their places, they do not rent. because why not? (but no one knows, except for Ravi)
- the medical bills (US health care system still scares the shit out of me, and makes me question my sanity on a daily basis)
(i’ve also read fic where Chimney and Albert are also heirs to Han Industry or something on that same line. he doesn’t personally know the sibling, but he has known of them, the Buckley sibling. so when he meet Buck and then later Maddie, he found their name weirdly familiar)

HOLY SHIT!!!!! 🩷💜💙 I have a lot to say.
My initial Spoiler Thoughts for 7x4 in no particular order.
The Bachelor stuff, as expected, was cringe. In a fun way, but still cringe. Chimney definitely has a little crush on Joey (hello bi Chimney? 👀), and clearly Maddie and Josh are huge Bachelor fans. I learned that it was Jennifer LH that loves the show and so pitched this crossover to the writers. Good on her since she helped create Madney and Buddie. <3
Eddie gave Buck a look at Buck's comment of, “Sorry, I have a rule that I don’t date anyone I meet on a call.”
Bobby could tell something was off with Harry… from the waffles? Also, was that the same actor who plays Harry? It’s been a couple years, so no surprise he’s grown a lot and looks a bit different since we last saw him I think in maybe season 5A.
That has to be a low-key dig at Buck with Eddie saying “...it’s like that thing when you meet somebody and you just, click.” A reference to the cemetery scene and Buck saying the nonsense about how Natalia, after talking twice, sees him. As Eddie should.
Ravi is back! He looked fantastic and beautiful. Heh, loved the brief comedy bit of him asking who was gonna go into the sewer.
Eddie had Marisol babysit Chris twice in one week? ……..I feel mixed about that. I know Eddie is in a better place than he was with Ana, but for him to leave his kid with his, as far as we can tell, casual girlfriend? What confuses me and makes this harder to even analyze for why Eddie is comfortable with this is that, hi. We still know jack shit about Marisol. We just know she and Eddie are casual boyfriend and girlfriend, but not serious. And because we don’t know anything about Marisol nor their relationship, there’s too much to guess why Eddie is, again, cool with having Marisol babysit Chris. I’ve also seen some Latina folks, in the past few days, comment on the stereotype of people like Ana and Marisol playing “the perfect” girlfriend, being motherly and such, and there not really being anything else there. I have no further comment on that, but something to put out there I guess.
Buck complained to Maddie about Eddie having a new friend. And Maddie saying that Buck probably kept digging at Chris for questions. Buck is definitely feeling very insecure that Chris finds Tommy cool, and has some kind of connection with Tommy already (though we know nowhere close to what Buck and Chris have or will ever have). I feel for Buck, I do. Cause y'all, this guy is going to have abandonment issues probably the rest of his life. Yes he should know his place in Eddie and Chris's life by now, but....idk, it's still hard for Buck to trust his place in peoples lives. Buck go back to therapy, please.
Oh so Eddie has wanted Buck to hang out, like with the basketball games, but Buck has passed on that. Thus Eddie invited Tommy. And Eddie had looked so excited at the prospect of Buck getting to come watch the fight as well.
Ohhh really interesting scene with Athena and Harry. Harry even brought up the incident of years ago, of a cop pulling over his dad and pointing a gun at Harry. Harry in this scene was asking, basically, which is more important being a cop or my mom. Harry has the impression Athena cares more about being a cop and………. well………. history shows she does “”understand”” the cops side.
Honestly? I really think Eddie was talking to Tommy on the phone at the station. Given the episode, it probably was. Some may say it could be Marisol, but given how miniscule a role she’s played *gestures* in everything? Nah, it was Tommy. Even from his dialogue I could catch, idk, I still say Tommy. And goddd Buck was trying So Hard to get Eddie’s attention. Buck honey…. you’re embarrassing yourself.
The scene with Athena and the mom who accidentally shot her son got me. Well done, I cried. Let me also just say I’m so happy to have 911 calls that aren’t longer than necessary, but more so just right. Season 6 had an issue of dragging out the calls.
Ha! Chimney covering for Buck at the court and calling himself a beard. Chimney knows something is up, especially with Buck.
Can I just say, I loved seeing Eddie look so happy?? Being more at ease looks fantastic on him. <333
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Eddie act so broey with someone. Tommy really brings out Eddie’s “hey bro man dude what’s going on” side. Interesting interesting… But I am glad that Eddie has someone to connect with about the army, his interest in fighting, and apparently cars???? Stuff like that.
Tommy called Buck Evan, the entire episode. *squints* I’m not mad about it, but I’m a little ?????? about it. I don’t recall any past girlfriends of Buck who called him Evan. Always Buck. And Buck always introduces himself as Buck to everyone, sooooooo what? The only people to ever call Buck Evan is his parents, Maddie, and Eddie once in the memorable and iconic Will Scene. Like having Tommy call Buck Evan certainly sets him apart from everyone else and definitely past love interests…...
Good on Maddie for rightfully being pissed at Buck for, even though he’s not sure he did it intentionally or not, but for hurting Eddie. I’m a bit pissed at Buck for that too. Like Maddie said, you don’t hurt the people you care about. 🤨
Well I’m glad that Athena stuck by Harry’s side through the whole process, buuuut I still think Athena needs to retire. (we know she won’t, especially with the confirmed 8th season, and who knows how many more. maybe in the last season.)
Eddie feels bad? Nah see it’s explained in this post by @bihoebuck about how neither Buck nor Eddie are right or wrong. It’s a quick post, read that and it’ll make sense.
I can't wait to see and hear more from Eddie next episode. Buck may now be focusing on his queer awakening instead of figuring out his feelings about Eddie (spoiler: he's in love with Eddie, we know this), but all of this must get Eddie thinking too. And not just "oh Buck was feeling left out, and I feel like I may have left him out too." Nah there's gotta me more to shake loose in Eddie's head, you know??
BI BUCK IS CANON BABYYYYY!!!! I gotta say the build up to the kiss was really good. And? Like y’all. I really liked how confident Tommy was. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders, saying a lot of right things to clear the air about Chris (that Chris couldn’t stop talking about Buck) and Eddie and such. Tommy even admitting that he’s a bit jealous of the family at the 118, since we know it was Not like that when he worked there. I’m guessing it’s not like that even at the station he currently works at. Now. Once again though we have another case of Buck Misunderstanding the mother-effing Assignment. And I do feel sorry for Tommy because Buck is… basically pivoting in his jealousy about Eddie - feeling like hes losing Eddie and Chris because Buck will probably forever have abandonment issues - and instead of continuing to really think about why he’s feeling jealous in any regards about Eddie, he’s now thinking, “Oh. I was just wanting to spend time with Tommy. And oh holy shit I’m into guys? Yeah. Yeah I am!!” And so Buck’s queer awakening is kinda clouding his judgment and perspective. Don’t get me wrong! Buck is definitely bi, BLESS, but now he’s going to focus on this part, focus on Tommy, instead of figuring out his feelings about Eddie. I think Buck is still afraid to truly look close at his feelings for Eddie and untangle what it all means. I really wonder just how long Buck will consciously and subconsciously avoid thinking about what Eddie really means to him. I just hope Tommy doesn’t get hurt along the way. =|
PHEW. I got most of my thoughts out, but I’m sure I missed some details. Another really good episode in my books. Not perfect, but pretty dang awesome. 😎

SaL anon here friend, thinking about how not only (as pointed out) that this season of OG is mediocre but LS has also been pretty Meh and remarkably for similar reasons. So because I have too much time on my hands today and too little willpower to be productive, here I give you my vaguely thought out character parallels between the two shows this season, and how they've made the season frustrating.
Eddie and Nancy: Both of these characters have had no plot or arc all season. Basically they're moral support and comedic relief.
Maddie and TK: Both have had a sort of half plot to themselves but ultimately are there to be supportive, be sad when their loved ones are in danger, and generally remind us Madney and Tarlos exist.
Bobby and Mateo: Both had exactly one plotline to themselves, both those plots came out of nowhere, and both were centered around another character that was mentioned maybe once before.
Athena and Paul: Both had a single plot centered on their past that was actually interesting and believably important for the character (though in LS at least it didn't require its own episode away from the group). The problem was that there was little to no follow up or any sense of closure, we're just kinds left to assume some sort of conversation happened.
Chim and Tommy: Both have been fairly visible this season (definitely Tommy more so than Chim except for the last few OG episodes) and had some pretty good best friend moments. But both had had incredibly frustrating plots that just didn't make sense or serve a purpose (Chim forgiving his parents and Tommy - a Mom - trying to one up an actual child).
Hen+Karen and Judd+Grace: Both were strong points for the their shows season (I'm firmly of the belief Tomorrow was the best episode of either show this season). Only a relatively minor complaint for both, namely the WTF did this come from of the Denny plot and that Grace's recent storyline has the 5th crime investigation on what's supposed to be a weewoo show.
The 911 Guest Cast and Owen: Basically these always seem to drag the show out of the firehouse and into some bullshit no one asked for. The exception is Ravi, who is the equivalent of Owen when the focus is on him being a captain to his team.
Buck and Carlos: Frankly both their plotlines have been a mess (though Buck has twice as many as Carlos), didn't go anywhere, and are full of missed opportunities for character development, especially in the realm of having an honest conversation with their parents.
If you've been keeping score I have left out of the list Marjan. This is because between the shows I feel like Marjan's character has been handled the best, even almost perfectly. We got backstory, character building, and even a cute dating plot.
Anyway hope you enjoy my afternoon musings!! This is also in part me trying to pretend this season is over (for OG at least) and I can draw these parallels instead of facing the fact we have 2 more episodes to slog through.
Bestie, were is the lie????
Tumblr media
This is so spot on though and I laughed so hard when I read this! I've been...not necessarily avoiding but certainly not reading any LS spec because I'm just to tired to do that and OG but whooo boy am I side eying some of the stuff I've seen floating around. LS pulling the old RNM line of Tarlos having to "earn" their wedding like 🙄🙄🙄 Plus there was something about "tragedy" striking and WHY would they need more new drama when they had a whole unexpected WIFE that got sort of brushed off and the resolution for that happened off screen, and Carlos DIED and then it was just like, never mentioned again, and TK is going into his wedding without his mom. There's already so much there, why on earth would they need to invent something else?!
And don't get me started on OG doing the same thing but also packing the guest cast with a thousand people to wrap up Buck's 700 arcs he's got started that they just did nothing with until the last couple episodes apparently. I am...so tired.
Agreed though that the Marjan stuff has been good this season when she had stuff going on! I honestly don't know WHO was in charge of OG seasons 1-3 and the arc planning and pacing because Timmy is over on LS and it's having the same messy issues as OG in that regard when OG had like, the PERFECT formula those first few seasons. What was going on over there?! And more importantly, how do we get it BACK?!

Let’s see the Olivia 911 song list
thank youuuuu for asking i love you!! i know i said five but i didn’t want to stop at five so i did ten. also im gonna try and refrain myself from just saying every song is a buck song but it’s hard
1. Brutal- seasons 1-3 May. I feel like we as a collective don’t talk about the early seasons of may grant enough. she was just a kid! and she was being bullied so bad she thought she didn’t have any way out of it, it’s so heartbreaking. and then she just kept going through stuff in her family life and… i just care for her so much and this is HER song fr.
2. Deja Vu- Buddie. there’s no like actual moment of buddie for deja vu but i just feel like this is what’s going through both of their heads every single time the other person has a date with someone else. like this is the one and only buddie jealousy song to me!
3. Vampire- Buck/abby. like i’m sorry you can’t convince me buck abby was an ethical relationship and im NOT talking about the age gap even though that’s the main point of this song. like she got his info in a sketchy way and then basically used him to help her heal until she was ready to move on but then didn’t even have the guts to do an actual breakup and left the kid hanging for months. call me a bitch but i feel very comfortable saying she sucked so much of his energy and life. it took two full seasons for him to fully find closure from that while she had started a whole new life! :/
4. Stranger- Buck/abby again lol. this is like the other side of that argument where it’s like, buck was totally crushed but now in season seven who the fuck cares about her! she’s just a stranger now! and the lyric “you are the best thing i keep so far out of my life” is very them. because she did change his outlook on life in MANY ways but his healing from her was the best thing he could have ever done.
5. logical & enough for you- maddie. my heart breaks listening to these songs from a maddie perspective. thinking about how long she suffered and dealt with so much she didn’t deserve,,, these are the best songs for her imo especially the lyric “one day i’ll be everything for somebody else” because she is she really is! and she’s getting married to the person who looks at her like she hung the moon and i love her!!!
6. Making the bed- eddie, specifically pre canon eddie. idk how to explain this one but it’s very much just the idea of him getting back to his son realizing how shit things are and being like … i had a part in making this problem and now i need to fix my shit. and then he did!
7. 1sf3sb- henren in the early seasons/precanon. the cheating storyline is one of my least favs but i love how they showed them rebuilding from it and coming back even stronger. but in the midst of it all this song is truly very them from karen’s perspective. she was valid for everything during that time btw karen is a literal saint for her patience.
8. boahsg- ravi, our little clumsy socially awkward darling
9. Love is embarrassing- Bisexual buck!!!!!! this is my fav liv song and it’s so buck it’s not even funny. the anthem for the give more than they get hopeless romantics oh god i love him and it became way way more buck when he kissed a man who’s kind of a loser. i bet he’s planning out his wedding with a guy he’s never marrying right now!
10. finally, the newest addition to my list and the most important in my mind: Scared of my guitar the most buddie song to ever buddie (other than good luck babe). I love this song so much coming from the perspective of them literally not being able to lie to each other but they can lie to significant others like it’s nothing. oh there’s so much good stuff in there it’s amazing.
thank you for letting me do this anon ily

I'm new to shipping Buckie and gahhh my emotions.
The panic attack Eddie has when Eddie, Ana and Chris are shopping for a suit for Christopher. I can't!
The clerk goes "Lets hear what mom thinks" and Ana says "I'm not his mom, I'm just a friend".
And Eddie goes PANIC because that's how he sees Ana. Not Christopher's mom. Just s friend. Which is actually history repeatig itself because Shannon didn't really act like Christopher's mom either, instead abandoned Chris. And they kept having arguments about the way Eddie wasn't around. Shannon even very pointedly says that she doesn't need a provider, she needs a partner.
So Eddie is reminded of the way his girlfriends are just friends to him and panics.
And when he's panicking we hear voices, and one of them is definitely Buck saying "Now it all makes sense."
Which is of course, a memory.
From the scene in which Buck talks about his parents to the team. How he feels like they never wanted him, only had him for spare parts for his sick brother. And he talks about his reckless attitude towards danger and goes:
"Now it all makes sense.... It was the only way to get their attention."
Because when you're starved for love and can't get have it, then attention is the next best thing.
And why would Eddie remember Buck's relationship to his parents while he's panicking?
Because I think he feels that his family is similar to Buck's. Their love is conditional.
He's reminded of the fact that the women he dates are just friends... And thinks of the expectations of his family.
"Ana is just a friend + It's the only way to get their love."
So he panics because he feels trapped. He feels like he MUST date her, is expected to marry her, because if he isn't the kind of man who runs into danger, provides for his family, dates women...
His family won't love him.
And the other panicky moment at the firestation when Ana and Chris visit him if also triggered by people assuming Ana is his wife.
While Eddie is actually lost in though, smiling to himself after they've talked about firefighters who get into trouble, constantly. (They're talking about Ravi, but really? The firefighter who gets into trouble constantly is so obviously Buck.)
And he keeps looking at Buck.
And panics when he realises he didn't even remember to introduce Ana to Ravi because he was too focused on thinking and looking at Buck.
Then!!! Buck and Eddie have a conversation and Buck basically tells Eddie to break up with Ana because unrequired love hurts.
And Eddie does.
(And Eddie's reaction when Buck says he knows what's like to be Ana because he knows about unrequired love...!!! He just shakes his head like "You are nothing like Ana you fool, I love you, I don't love her, you're nothing alike you IDIOT.")
Gaaah. I won't survive this ship.
Oh! And that line Ana says at the firestation?
"Even in the dark... this place is amazing."
That's Eddie's unrequired love for Buck. It hurts. It sucks. It's depressing, sad, lonely, dark. But still amazing enough that he can't let it go.

ravi week day 2 - the 118
these are the ties that bind us
wc: 894 | ravi and 118 A-shift: a love story
It’s a beautiful day, and Ravi is wine drunk. And when he gets wine drunk, he gets introspective.
Right now, he’s introspecting as to how the hell he got here – here being his captain’s backyard in the middle of summer, where his co-workers are arguing about why they’re gathered and getting drunk together in the first place.
It started when Bobby, the inspirational man that he is with a penchant for impromptu speeches, stood up with a glass of lemon iced tea.
He had clinked it happily. “Thank you all for being here,” he said. “I won’t talk for long – as you all know, we need to celebrate life every chance we get, and I’m so glad to be here with you all as we make good on that promise. Now, let’s hear from the man of the hour!”
Everyone cheered and looked around the table expectantly. Ravi smiled and clapped politely. This went on for a good two minutes.
“Chimney, get up,” Hen had finally said, playfully bumping his shoulder.
“What do you mean?” he had asked, mirroring her grin. “It’s Buck’s birthday, silly.”
The table quietened.
“That was two weeks ago,” Buck replied. “Do you not know my birthday?”
“Um, I thought we were here to celebrate Chimney’s fifteen years on the job,” Hen said.
“I thought we were here for Athena’s retirement party.”
“Who the hell said I was retiring?”
Maddie said, “Mm, Karen, this is for your new job, right?”
“No? I thought we were celebrating Eddie’s coming out.”
“We most definitely are not.” Eddie’s face flushed.
“Isn’t this for May going back to college?”
“I hope not. I’m only leaving next month.”
“Anniversary?” Chimney suggested.
“Whose?” Bobby asked.
“Yours and Athena’s?”
“Nope.”
“Well, what does the cake say?”
Eddie opened the cake box. “It just has a smiley face on it.”
“Okay, who was in charge of the cake?”
“Bobby’s the one who told me to keep it generic!” Hen snapped.
Ravi felt himself slipping away about halfway through this. He sips his drink and sighs. He had tried so hard to avoid getting sucked into this… this weird, enmeshed family dynamic the A shifters had. But it was hard. There was something magnetic about them, they kept pulling him into their shit.
He didn’t mind working with them – they’re for sure some of the most competent people he’s ever been on shift with. It’s just everything else that makes them… bizarre.
Like this exact situation, for example. How does this group of people hang out so frequently that they have no idea why they’re there?
(Buck’s suggested Fourth of July. Athena’s shot it down because she insists she would’ve had the red-white-blue food otherwise. Also, it’s the middle of the month.)
Don’t get him wrong, he likes them, he does. It’s just that he prefers the Venn diagram of his friends, family, and co-workers to not be one big circle, thank you very much.
It started way before he became an A shift regular, he thinks. That fateful Q-word day. Maybe he did jinx himself for life.
Ravi had gone back and recounted the story to his B-shift colleagues, and they had basically said, “Yeah, that tracks,” – and that’s how Ravi began his spiral into the infamous lore of A-shift.
He should’ve known they were all disaster magnets. He listens in abject horror and fascination as they tell him about the rebar, the tracheotomy, the hand-in-man’s-chest, and of course, the LSD brownies.
He stops them after a bit and decides the less he knows about these people the better. Then the treasure hunt happened, and he literally found a dead body with the group, and he guessed that counts as some kind of trauma bonding, but it still kept him wary.
And then the sniper situation unfolded, and Ravi got to temporarily be on A shift for a bit. It was an experience for sure (and getting shot is one of the less goofy things to happen to the group) but they pulled through, and Ravi was ready to go back to B shift.
But then Chimney left to chase the love of his life, and Ravi gets it, he’d do the same, so he was still stuck on the opposite shift.
It was then that Ravi started realising how little personal space these six people actually had. He somehow kept getting invited to events – Chimney’s brother’s firefighter test being the most random of them all – but he was too polite to decline them.
Somewhere between the dead author and prison riots, he'd been adopted as the token normal guy of the team; somehow, he didn't mind.
“Alright now, enough!” Athena’s voice cuts through the commotion and snaps Ravi out of his wine-induced introspection.
“It doesn’t matter what we’re here for. This was bound to happen at some point. Let’s just enjoy this party and plan better for the next one.”
The garden murmurs in agreement as they raise their glasses again.
“To family,” Bobby announces.
“To family!” Ravi choruses with everyone, clinking his glass with Hen and Maddie’s.
The air is thick with barbeque and joy. The patio lights twinkle in time with Bobby’s 60s mix playing in the background, and the idle chatter of his friends make the wine settle gently in his belly.
Family, Ravi thinks, despite himself. I don’t hate the sound of that.

What's really interesting is the timing....
We know that Lucy is out dealing with an injury and Ravi isn't around too much right now either. So who else would be there for Buck to lean on if he, in fact, gets injured?
Logistically, it wouldn't be Maddie because she is co-parenting with Chim and trying to work on their relationship. In addition, she is newly returned to work and wouldn't be able to request time off so soon.
It wouldn't be Hen and Karen because they are both working and raising a family. It could, in theory, be Bobby and Athena, especially since May is off to college, but that doesnt jibe with all the activity centering around Eddie's house. So that leaves us very little to infer outside of Eddie being the one whom Buck would turn to.
Also, Buck doesn't necessarily have to be injured for this to play out. The synopsis, that Buck is taking time to think about things, could imply that he no longer wants to go out to clubs and immerse himself in the dating scene. He is embracing maturity and domesticity.
At the same time, Eddie is learning how to be more than just a dad. Christopher becoming more independent will allow Eddie time to figure out who else he wants to be. He is embracing new opportunities to determine how to be Eddie as a person, not Eddie as a dad.
Buck and Eddie will both be figuring things out about themselves and they will have questions. Who else to turn to for answers and comfort and guidance but to each other? Everyone else around them is in a relationship. So logistically, Buddie has to happen because no one else is around.
..... And this got long winded and I'm sorry about that. But I'm eating bunny food and it's tickling my thoughts, lol. Also, my nose is twitching but that's for another time. 😏
Hi my love!! I literally have nothing more to add because you’ve basically summarized my overall thoughts that I’ve had for weeks! This was perfectly said and I agree with it so much. In the end, Buck and Eddie are each other’s person and the one they turn too when they need support/comfort. They have that emotional intimacy established and it’s so natural between the two. This season, with them being single and going on their self discovery journeys, it makes the most sense for them to both turn to each other and then realize they don’t need anyone else bc they’ve always had each other! I really think this season is the perfect time for this bc I know I was so adamant about last season but Taylor was around and Eddie had Ana so it wouldn’t have been the perfect opportunity. Now it is. There’s no one they’re tied to. Buck was already discussing what he wants in a long term partner. It’s only a matter of fact until they both open their eyes and realize that they’ve had their partner next to them this entire time! And I can’t wait to see how their love story develops 💜

dont believe everything you hear
Guess who's actually wrote a fanfic for the first time in years!
Based on this tumblr post I wrote a few weeks ago:
Also on AO3
Ravi is not an idiot.
He doesn’t feel the need to point that out often, he’s usually quite content in his level of intelligence. So maybe he isn’t the kind of smart that his best friend Taimur is. Tai is in medical school with dreams of being an oncologist and hopes to one day help kids like the two of them. Because that’s what you do when you’re a kid with cancer, you spend your weekends getting chemo and dreaming of being the one to cure cancer one day. But Ravi was never going to be a doctor, he knew that much. He always liked the idea of being a superhero, but a firefighter fit him well too.
So Ravi was not an idiot. He had a four year degree from UCLA and had made it through the fire academy. He was observant and had a good memory and spoke three languages for god’s sake.
Yet somehow he had missed that his co-workers had in fact not gone through a divorce and shared custody of their son. IN FACT they had never been married or even been together in the first place.
In some ways he felt Buck and Eddie were to blame for this. Because really, they had to be.
But in fact, it probably started with Lena Bosko.
Ravi liked being at the 118. He was getting on well with the rest of B shift and already learning a lot. And sometimes when his shift ran a little long, he would cross over with A shift in the dressing room. Everyone on A shift was smoking hot and stupidly competent at their jobs. Ravi had spent the day after one of his first shifts at the house google stalking and finding all the old news coverage of the team.
Also B shift loved to gossip. So he learned very quickly that not only were A shift good at their jobs, there was also always drama following them around. But Hen always had a smile for him and Bobby would always save him some food. However he was glad to be on B shift, as the A shift all together just seemed overwhelming, and Ravi wasn’t sure how we would handle all of that.
He’s only been at the house a few weeks when he’s on shift and there is a call for a pretty big warehouse fire. A few different houses are called in and he manages to find the balance between helpful probie and learning how to deal with a big disaster from the more seasoned firefighters.
They get the fire under control and he’s helping pack up hoses when a voice calls from behind him.
“Hey you’re with the 118!” A woman strides up to him, having seen the truck he’s next to. It’s both a statement and a question.
Ravi nods unsure how to reply, but it doesn’t matter as she carries on talking as she stops in front of him.
“How’s the Diaz and Buckley divorce going?” She asks, a small smirk on her face.
“The…w-what?” Ravi can’t help but stutter. He knows who she’s talking about. The guys on A shift are basically infamous and connected at the hip. And he has to admit he saw Firefighter Buckley working out in the gym area when he was getting ready to leave the house once, and almost walked into a wall. Ravi is only human.
“Last time I saw those two they were arguing in a grocery store about their kid” She rolls her eyes, a fond smile playing at her lips, “Those two are so much drama.”
“Well, I'm pretty new, but from what I can tell they seem to be working well together”. He shrugs. All he’s observed so far from Buckley and Diaz is that they go everywhere together, can communicate just by looking at each other, and are both ridiculously good looking.
“Good luck navigating that” She reaches out and slaps him on the shoulder, “Better you dealing with them than me.” She smiles again and walks away. Ravi spots the name Bosko on the back of her turnout before he shakes himself and gets back to packing away. It’s been a long shift and he does not have time to process this new information right now.
It’s not long after that night that he gets moved up to A shift to help make up numbers. And learns that everything the B shift used to gossip about and what Bosko told him, suddenly makes so much more sense. Because A shift, and Eddie and Buck in particular, are So. Much. Drama.
—--------
“PROBIE!”
Ravi drops all the books he’s holding. Partly from the fear of someone shouting at him. Partly from the fact that having a 6ft blonde hunk shouting at him is making him react in ways he doesn’t need the general public to see.
Since the revelation Bosko bestowed on him, he can’t help but monitor A shift closely now. Letting himself get dragged into gossip with the others on B and C shift. Trying to figure out what exactly made Buck and Eddie get divorced, since they still seem so close.
Is it all a front for their kid? Or to keep peace at work? When they leave do they turn into the spiteful divorced parents he’s seen on TV? He’s never even seen them so much as glare at each other.
But what he does see is interesting.
He accidentally jinxes the A shift, so now he’s firehouse enemy number 1 and there is a good chance Beautiful Buckley is going to strangle him, and not in a fun way.
He overhears that Eddie is going on a date with some teacher and watches as Buck goes quiet for the next few days.
Then that stupid treasure hunt, which he actually nails thank you very much. But then Taylor Kelly is always around, and Eddie glares whenever her name is mentioned and looks like he wants to shove a fork into his eye whenever she gets brought up in conversation.
But nothing could have prepared him, or anyone really, for when Eddie gets shot in front of Buck. Buck instantly spirals and it’s clear to see the man is suffering. He is in agony waiting for news of his ex husband and having to care for his son.
Luckily Eddie makes a full recovery, and even Ravi can tell something is different between the two of them when Eddie returns. Something softer and connected. More dependent on each other than ever, whatever weird mind meld they had is stronger than before.
And then he gets a front row seat to all the drama as he’s moved up to A shift to help out.
There’s a heat wave and a black out all culminating in the shock of meeting Ana. Ravi is in such a state that he accidentally calls her Eddie’s wife and Eddie looks like his head is about to explode, Buck looks confused and Ravi wants the earth to swallow him whole. For a brief moment he wonders if there was any infidelity that led to the Buckley-Diaz divorce, but he doubts it would be this civil if there was.
Then Buck gets a stick up his ass, and decides to focus all his energy on Ravi. And Ravi doesnt know whether to enjoy being that kind of focus or to ask if he’s fighting with Eddie again. Buck makes the announcement he’s going to leave, but it’s swiftly shut down by the others.
When Eddie looks over at Buck and says “You’re stuck with us”. Ravi has to stop himself from swooning.
Which is why it’s such a shock that a few months later, Eddie is the one that’s leaving. Ravi is both surprised, and not. He has watched as Eddie seemed to turn in on himself, spending more of his shifts thinking and doodling in a notebook than hanging out with Buck. Buck is clearly devastated which means he had no prior warning. But clearly understands the need to put their sons' worries at ease. Ravi wonders if Buck is going to spend less time at work now too. Or if this is just linked to Eddie’s shooting last year.
If anything Buck now spends all of his time at work, and he is grumpier than ever.
Ravi dares to ask once how Eddie is doing and is met with a brief grunt of “He’s fine”.
Well, guess Mom and Dad are fighting again.
—--
Lucy Donato is new to the 118 but she is not new to firefighting. She’s calm under pressure, quick on her feet and just an all around badass. Ravi wants to be best friends with her.
Buck is civil but far from his usual friendly self, probably too caught up in Lucy being the one to replace Eddie. But Ravi knows he will warm to her soon enough, Buck can’t help himself.
Ravi has yet to figure out how to become best friends with Lucy, and wants to nab her before she gets sucked into the weird codependency that is A shift. He gets his chance when she is falling next to him on the couch during down time between calls;
“So what’s the deal with Buckley?”
And honestly the firehouse has turned him into a gossip because he can barely inhale a breath before he starts.
“Dude I am honestly still trying to figure it out myself, but when I got here he was basically going through a divorce with his ex husband who also worked here, who left and is also the firefighter you’re replacing”
Lucy blinks at him for a second before getting a small smile on her face and leans closer like they are sharing secrets, which they totally are.
“Oh. My. God. That actually makes so much sense,” Ravi beams back at her, new best friend secured. “No wonder he barely talks to me, I thought it was because I was a woman, but he gets on so well with Hen. But to have his ex husband gone from both his personal and professional life, that’s brutal”
Ravi nodded along, see Lucy got it!
“Wait” She paused, sitting up to look around to make sure no one else was listening. “Didn’t  I hear something about that other guy leaving to take care of his kid?”
Ravi nodded enthusiastically.
“Yes! See Eddie got shot last year, right in front of Buck, and I mean like Eddie’s blood all over Buck kind of in front of him. And Eddie healed and he’s fine, but I guess their son Chris was more upset about it than they thought, and was really worried about Eddie dying and not coming home one day. So Eddie decided he was going to leave and try something else for a while to help put Chris’s mind at ease”
“Woah, those guys have so much going on, now I feel bad for just thinking Buck was a dick.”
“Nah Buck can be a dick don’t worry, but yeah I wouldn’t hold it against him, he’s got a lot to deal with right now, he’ll come around though, he always does”
Lucy smiles at him just as Hen comes to sit in the chairs next to them.
“Hey what are you guys gossiping about”
“Just filling Lucy in on the Buck and Eddie drama”
“Ooooh, that could take a while, but give her a chance to meet Eddie at least once so she can form her own opinion of him” Hen smiles cheekily.
“Wait, one thing I don’t get, why did they get divorced?” Lucy asks, turning to Ravi.
Hen makes a sound from next to them but they are looking at each other.
“See that’s what I can’t figure out because they are clearly still in love with each other, so I have no idea, they can both be pretty stubborn though”. Ravi shrugs as Hen makes a choking sound causing them both to look at her.
“Do you know Hen?” Lucy asks.
Hen just smiles at them, a gleam in her eyes. “I don’t think any of us know the answer to that one.”
—-----
A few months later, Eddie is back and Lucy is still with them and Ravi is starting to feel confident about his place as a firefighter and at the 118.
It’s a big training day, which means several houses have converged at the 118 to undergo lectures and training exercises together. When Ravi notices the 126 are there and Lena Bosko herself seeks him out.
“Congrats on finishing probation Panikkar.'' She smiles, giving him a rough pat on the back. It’s only his anticipation of it that stops him from stumbling under the force of it.
“Thanks Bosko,” He turns to Lucy beside him and introduces them. “This is Lucy Donato, she’s been with the 118 a few months, not sure if you’ve met”
The ladies shake hands and seem to give each other the nod of approval.
“Hey Lena, maybe you know, why did Buck and Eddie get divorced?” He asks as Lucy scoots closer wanting the info too. Out of the corner of his eye he sees Hen and Chimney making their way towards them.
“What?” Lena asks, her eyebrows scrunching in confusion.
“You’re the one who asked how their divorce was going the first time we met, do you know why they split up?” He asks as the the others join them and he can see Lucy shuffling closer over his shoulder waiting for Lena’s answer.
“Ravi, I was joking” Lena looks at him like he’s grown a second head.
“WHAT!?!?” He and Lucy blurt in unison.
“I just meant it like, the last time I saw them they were bickering like a married couple” Lena shrugs, a smile playing at her lips.
“But it made so much sense!” Ravi drops his head into his hands, going over every interaction he’s had with Buck and Eddie.
Hen and Chim  are laughing so hard they’re falling onto each other.
“You could have corrected us, ya know!” He points an accusing finger at the two of them.
“But this is so much funnier” Chimney smiles, popping his gum as he regains composure, Hen wiping a finger under her eyes.
“Wait, if they’re not divorced, you know what this means” Lucy asks the group.
“That maybe my sister was right and I am an idiot” Ravi mutters.
“No it means we can get them together” Lucy smirks, and Ravi loves their friendship.
“Ooooooh I like that” He has to restrain himself from clapping like a happy child.
“Get who together?” Eddie asks just as he and Buck join their impromptu circle.
“You two” Lena points between the two of them causing Eddie and Buck to look at each other and blush.
“What?”
“Lena accidentally told Ravi you two were divorced and Ravi told Lucy and they’ve been trying to figure out why you split up” Hen fills them in.
“It just made so much sense when Lena said it, and nothing you two have done has made me think otherwise!” Ravi throws his hands in the air, maybe he’s getting a little hysterical, his world is upside down thank you very much.
“To be fair I probably would have believed it too before I knew them properly. You should have seen their argument in the grocery store. Eddie was all ‘you’re a deadbeat baby daddy’ and Buck was all ‘I want joint custody’, it was so dramatic.” Lena rolled her eyes.
“That’s not really what-” Eddie starts.
“YES! Thank you, like when the treasure hunt was everywhere and Eddie wanted to be on Buck’s team but Buck was with Taylor but then Eddie pouted until Buck said ok!”
“How do you-”
“What about last week when they were cuddling on the sofa facetiming their son and reading him bedtime stories.” Lucy chimed in. Everyone else nodded in agreement.
“Huh, maybe you guys got married and divorced without even noticing.” Chimney strokes his chin in thought.
“Guys you’re being ridiculous, Eddie and I aren’t…” Buck looks at Eddie and sees him looking back, “We’re not-, It’s…”
“Dude” Eddie nudges him gently, “We’re a little married” And beams when Buck huffs and laughs, rolling his eyes.
“And i’d never divorce you” Eddie smiles as Buck’s eyes go all soft. Then Eddie winks and walks off, Buck quickly following him like he always does.
“Eddie come back, you can’t just say stuff like that”
The rest of them watch them as they weave in between other firefighters. Before looking at each other and;
“Oooooooooh” In synch.
Ravi is not an idiot. But he knows when he sees two idiots in love.

I know this is probably the worst thing to want, but the more I think about it, the more I want Bobby to die in the season 6 finale. I don’t know why this thought has hooked itself into my brain. I’ve been pretty unsatisfied with parts of seasons 5 and 6, I’ll easily admit. Usually, killing someone off is the last thing I want. I think killing off characters for shock value is just the worst.
But think of the changes that would force in the narrative! Chimney’s being forced into the captain's role. The shakeup at the 118 as the team dynamic would face a permanent switch up, production wise there's a main spot open for Anirudh, so Ravi could in theory step in to help with the shakeup.
Imagine the emotional scenes with Angela as she plays a grieving Athena. Imagine Athena trying to deal with this loss. Imagine Athena, who is probably both sad and angry at this, but with no bad guy that she can focus on. You think of Athena, and you think she'd raise hell to bring the ones responsible for her husband's death to justice. But this was just an accident - what will Athena do when there's no bad guy to bring to justice?
Maybe this would force some character growth for Buck that could stick? Sorry, but Mr. Buckly - who is so unimportant at this point in Buck's life that I can't even remember his name. He and Buck's mom are really just the sperm and egg donors, and you can't convince me otherwise. Anyway - Bobby's death would be Buck losing a parent, really. And Buck and older men dying are kind of a thing for the show.
God, Buck having to deal with the death of a close loved one in this part of the season is so focused on death, while he's still trying to come to terms with his own brush with mortality. If he wasn't spiraling before about why he survived, he would be after losing Bobby.
Also, just putting it out there, Conor and his wife letting Buck name their child, or asking him for a name and him asking if they can name them Bobby - I don't remember if they're having a boy or girl, but it works so freaking well here because Bobby can be a boy's or girl's name short for Robert or Roberta.
You want me to care about Buck and the baby he's giving up for adoption? Or whatever the term for the legality around this is? Have him hold little baby Bobby, a new life that reminds him that life is a precious gift. Or something.
Hen? We could see her doing her Hen thing and just being there for everyone. Athena, Chimney, and Buck - she's their rock, their pillar. And then we see her break down because she lost a friend, her captain—dare I say a father figure? Headcanon is coming out here - but I kind of like to think of Bobby as firedad; he was very dad shaped for everyone. But yeah, it would be cool to see a strong and wise Hen cry and tell everyone, "I need support too." I'd cry, you'd all cry; you know you would!
Eddie, goddamn, losing the man that fought so hard for him to join his team. No one really points it out, but Bobby was the first person to look at Eddie in the show and say, 'You're enough; you're exactly what I want for my team, Eddie." And I keep thinking back to when Eddie left the 118 and tried to getback,k and how Bobby was part of the reason he got help. He told Bobby that he saved him and Chris, and I do like Eddie's story of reconnecting with Raymon. I hate Helen, but I get that some people want to and can forgive their parents for the things they say. So it might be nice to see him deal with the loss of Bobby with their help.
Basically, I'd love to see the Diaz parents realize Eddie is mourning this man because, for the longest time, he didn't have them, and he'd turned to this stranger to fill a parental role. And then I could enjoy them trying to do better—actually, I think that's why I've been okay with Raymon; we've seen him actually acknowledge what he did wrong. This post will become much longer and more profane if I start talking about Chimney and Buck's parents and how they were pardoned by their children, so I’ll just not.
I guess I just need something big to get me to feel for these characters again. But to be honest with how this show's being run right now. If they did kill off Bobby I could see half of the development just happening off screen. They'd be like, who wants to see these characters talk about their problems and feelings? But I could at least hold out hope for something a little more interesting with a bit of a gut punch.

And we're that much closer Buddie peeps
When Taylor looked so worried as Buck walked in, I actually was glad. I was like 'okay if he isn't going to be with Eddie and Christopher, at least he's getting to come home to someone who cares about him and was worried for him after this ordeal'. And then I saw the look. The sort of side eye. Then I saw her interrogation under the guise of concern. Then I remembered the wording of her phone call when Buck was walking in. And then I immediately went 'yep'.
This relationship isn't going to be long lasting. And if there is anymore alleged "ethical conflict" between Eddie and Taylor happening, here it be... And just starting. (something we won't see progress until we see what happens in 5x08) It's going to be all about either this particular case or about her getting the info from Buck and using it in another case.
Don't get me wrong, I like Taylor but they are not holding back in letting the audience know that something is very wrong with Buck and Taylor's relationship. It almost seems as if both are being performative or going through the motions. They're both trying but it's obvious there's a disconnect that we still haven't seen be addressed or truly brought to the forefront. But it's there.
Plus, Eddie being the one to suggest using Taylor's reporter cred to Mitchell about getting the story of his son spread around vs Taylor not reporting on the story but so obviously trying to get information from Buck about it? Hello parallels, my old friend.
And they even gave us the contrast of the scene between Buck and Taylor vs the sweet heartwarming one with Eddie and Christopher. After they just had Eddie and Buck spaced out in the hospital waiting room (even though we know they were both clearly concerned about one another when being taken hostage, and we saw Buck's panic when he heard the gunshot) and very uncharacteristically not showing us any kind of emotional resolution for these two this episode (though it clearly calls back to the emotions for both in 4x13 and 4x14 & Buck "no one will ever fight for my son as hard as you" reacting each time Christopher is mentioned and even gets clocked in the head for it). And we also don't see Eddie panic even though he's on the other end of a gun again and he is one cool customer...
It's all coming together, folks. I'm not saying we'll get canon Buddie immediately but the final pieces are being moved into place.
Can't wait for 5x08.

Buddie 515 meta
“High price to pay for a fake life” just knocked me right out. Eddie pretending to May he doesn’t wonder about the life he would have had if he had made different choices along the way, this is his usual brand of repression (think of him in 301, pretending he was cool with his father’s advice to just bottle his emotions, or in 504 saying he was just fine with his new job, away from his family), but it specifically made me think of him in 502, trying to initially pretend in front of Buck and believing he could make an entire fake life together with a woman he didn’t love simply for the sake of his son. Eddie, baby, love yourself. You deserve happiness. ~~~
Which is actually a parallel to Buck, the obvious love-desiring little puppy that he is, watching this weddings-at-first-sight reality TV. But normally, that would be a sign that he’s secretly pining for his gf to catch up with his desire to settle down, right? Not if we remember his reaction to the idea of marrying Taylor in 510. So who is making Buck watch this show and who is he fantasizing of committing to? Hmmmm… ~~~
Tumblr media
And really, the whole emergency with the groom was weirdly connected to both Buck and Eddie? Because their love lives have been paralleling for so long, they are both literally this man, making the wrong decisions, not following his heart, not seeing he’s with the wrong person and in a place where there’s no real love and partnership. Eddie has been so tightly connected to the theme of a heart since 413 that this call immediately brings him to mind, and we saw him explicitly say he will stay with the wrong person in 502. Right now, Buck is also with the wrong person, we’ve seen plenty of signs showing us that’s the case, and he was the one who ended up assisting Hen with the groom, even though the writers could have used Bobby, Ravi, Lucy or Chim for that. This is the universe screaming at these knuckleheads to get their shit together. ~~~
Tumblr media
Buck’s conversation with Maddie was so wonderful, and it sort of confirmed something that has actually been shown in psychological research (I did a whole course on psychological resilience): even when a person has awful, neglectful, sometimes even abusive parents, sometimes just having one other person who cares and loves them can be more than enough to set off a lot of the harmful parenting effects. Maddie was clearly that person for Buck. And as Eddie’s talk with May and his mental work arc clearly set up things for him to confront his own toxic parents and the harm that they have caused them, might he end up discovering that simply having Buck, this amazing man who’s been weathering the storm with him throughout the seasons and especially after the breakdown in 513, can be enough to help Eddie heal and rebuild himself into the man he longs to be? ~~~
The mother dying in the last call was absolutely heartbreaking and a reminder how much emotional weight 911 is capable of introducing in even just 5 to 10 minutes (so let’s not talk about the intensity of developing Buddie over the course of 4 seasons now). But then, when she passes away, Chim stops Buck from telling her kids about what happened to her. “They don’t hear this news from strangers,” he insists, “they need their dad.” Just think about Buck in 414, being the one to go to Chris, telling him about the shooting, being the person that this kid needed when his dad might have died. It’s not like we didn’t know that Buck is in fact Christopher’s other dad, but 911 keeps affirming that the characters themselves must be aware of it on some level. ~~~
By the end of the ep, the conversation between May and Eddie once again reaffirms the parallel between what she’s trying to figure out for herself, and what he’s going through, too. For example, think of the way she brings up a near death experience being something that opens one’s eyes to what could have been. Eddie basically acknowledges the parallel when his response to her is “trauma always makes us turn inward,” and then he adds that he supposes therapy has been rubbing off on him. But this is Eddie internalizing and slowly moving from his normal denial and repression, which we still see at the start of the ep, to him showing more and more signs that he’s ready to look inwards and face the man he is versus the man he’d like to and could have been. I just wanna applaud this show, that even during an ep that’s not about Eddie at all, it manages through such scenes and parallels to point out the on-going process he’s going through and to set things up for the rest of his arc in the last 3 eps of season 5b. ~~~
My apologies for the lack of gifs! As I mentioned here, this week is my busiest of the whole year at work, I’m doing 4 shifts which is literally unheard of (I’m never telling any of my colleagues I agreed to this or they’ll have me committed), and then the next couple of days I have double shifts, too. So I am posting this without the usual amount of gifs, otherwise it would take me days to get this posted. Please help this meta and others who might not be aware it’s being posted so early by reblogging it. Thank you in advance! And thank you so much to the unbelievable @whosoldherout and @judsonryder for being so talented and making such gorgeous gifs, plus being so kind and understanding with me during this stressful time. Lots of love to you two ladies and to everyone reading this! xoxox

2021 Fic Wrap-Up
I wrote 20 fics this year, 1 Stony and 19 Buddie fics. It was a total of 75967 words.
You Hold In You What I Had Lost || 7270 words || Stony ||
The fic where Steve has recurring dreams about dancing with Peggy... until it's not Peggy anymore.
Unconditionally || 6507 words || Buddie
My very first Buddie fic. Where I thought: hey, maybe I'll just dip my toe into this new fandom? *cackles* We all know how that went.
Thicker Than Blood || 1813 words || Buddie
The much needed fic where Eddie tells off Buck's parents. Because sometimes you just need to self-indulge. :)
A New Day || 2452 words || Buddie
Written for a prompt here on Tumblr, where Christopher isn't happy about Ana, and Eddie comes to some realizations about what his heart wants.
better than he can || 1830 words || Buddie
Written for a prompt here on Tumblr, where Buck becomes friends with the new Probie and Eddie gets jealous. Written before we even knew Ravi's name or anything about him really! Lol. So he's not called Ravi here.
If Cupid was nine years old || 2345 words || Buddie
Written for a prompt here on Tumblr, where Christopher plays matchmaker in his adorable little kid way.
911 Couples Retreat || 10375 words || Buddie
Four fics (one two-chaptered one) written for a fic challenge week, with new prompts for every day.
Five times Buck is Eddie’s co-parent + One time he is Eddie’s everything || 7639 words || Buddie
One of my two favorite fics of the year. I'm actually really proud of this one, and it's also been really well received. I'm also super pleased I wrote about the legal guardianship before it actually became canon. This fic is basically all the different ways Buck became Christopher's parent (legal and other) before he and Eddie got together.
you are my answer (without question) || 1065 words || Buddie
A comfort fic, because we all need that some days.
I found love where it wasn’t supposed to be (Right in front of me) || 13272 words || Buddie
My other favorite fic of this year. And the only one with an explicit rating. Whoot whoot. Lots of Buddie sexytimes, but also lots of feelings and them navigating through a new relationship. Oh, and Buck being a really loud bottom.
A Thousand Times Over || 3653 words || Buddie
The obligatory post-shooting fic (for a Tumblr prompt) because there were feels about Buck crawling under the truck to save Eddie.
pieces of me (are pieces of you) || 6945 words || Buddie
Probably the angstiest fic I wrote all year. Eddie and Buck get stuck in a collapse after an earthquake and Eddie has to say some really horrible things in an attempt to get Buck to leave him and save himself. I kinda hurt myself writing this.
Our Son series || 10801 words || Buddie
Five individual fics (so far) where Eddie calls Christopher "our son" in reference to Buck. And various people reacting to it and to what it means. So far, there has been Ana, Chimney & Hen, Maddie, Taylor, and Christopher himself.

ADJSJS BUCKS “ IM FINE IM NOT THE ONE WHO GOT SHOT”
LIKE SIR
SURE IT WASNT YOU WHO GOT SHOT BUT IT WAS UR HUSBAND UR ALLOWED TO NOT BE OKAY
OH GOD NO BUCK DONT THROW YOURSELF INTO DANGER JUST CAUSE YOU DONT WANT TO THINK ABOUT HOW SCARED YOU ARE
NO WAIT IS THAT THE SNIPER
BUCK HOW CAN YOU JUST SEE THAT AND NOT TELL ANYONE
OH MY GOD NO HE BLAMES HIMSELF FOR WHAT HAPPENED
IM CRYING
ikr??? Buck not being okay AT ALL to the point where he blames himself so much that he thinks it would've been best if it was him instead of Eddie and he wanted to get shot by the sniper. I just alsjsjshehehe Buck bby let me hug you.
WAIT NO TAYLOR WTF
WHYD YOU KISS HIM HIS HUSBANDS IN THE HOSPITAL
SHDJSNS NOW SHES LEAVING
YAY EDDIE'S AWAKE
'his husbands in the hospital' alajsjsh 😂😅 and seriously! Like Taylor I get this is an emotional time and Buck could've gotten shot again but now is not the time to kiss Buck. I'm still not over the timing of Eddie waking up right when Taylor kissed him. Eddie's Jealous Ho senses were tingling and had to wake up immediately and talk to the Buck 😂😂
yo wait i just realized this is the first time i’ve seen ana since he got shot kinda sus how the “love interest” has been absent 👀
Very sus indeed. Like Ana said one line this entire episode. Hell we didn't even see Eddie wake up to her or her reaction to him getting shot (both of which we saw with Ali when Buck's leg got crushed). All we saw was her sitting at Eddie's bedside one time, then when Buck arrives, she literally stepped aside so that Buck and Eddie can fully see each other and reunite (I'm sensing a symbolism here). My sister described her as an ornament and she basically was. Interesting how the love interest is a bg character that doesn't have one-on-one moments with Eddie while Buck's entire arc this ep was pretty much what usually a love interest's role is when something like this happens 👀🤔
OH MY GID NO BOBBY
BOBBY GOT SHOT
I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR THIS
Bobby getting hurt too was so hard. But I just LOVED how Buck and Athena worked together (along with everyone else) to save Bobby. Mother and son working together to go save the dad. AND WHEN ATHENA LITERALLY WALKED THROUGH FIRE. Aksjshsjsj these two are SUCH goals I swear.
OH MY GOD MADDIE MY LOVE
IM SO WORRIED ABOUT HER
I know my poor Maddie. But I'm so freaking happy that she asked for help. That scene and this entire sl in general is so incredibly important. This is a giant step in a better direction for her and I'm so yet again so freaking glad that she has Chimney in her life. Hope things get better for them.
OH MY GOD ITS THIS SCENE
OH MY GOD THE WAY THEY TRUST EACH OTHER
“ NO ONE WILL EVER FIGHT FOR MY SON AS HARD AS YOU”
IM SCREAMING
“YOU ACT LIKE YOURE EXPENDABLE BUT YOURE WRONG”
I'M SCREAMING RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. It's officially been a week (crying about it) and I'm STILL screaming about this scene. Will I ever stop? Absolutely not. The way they trust each other indeed. Like good luck Ana and Taylor or anyone else who wants to date them bc Buck and Eddie sure as hell aren't gonna trust anyone more than they trust each other, which includes their SO's. Can't wait for them to realize what's wrong with this picture and actually do something about it. But yeah this scene will forever make me feral I can't even. (It's like the emotional version of The Kitchen Scene™ if tho that one had emotional moments but still).
OH MY GOD AND HEN AND KAREN SEEING NIA AND HER MOM
THE PICNIC
listen I am SOOO freaking happy that we saw Nia again and her being happy but still remembering Hen and Karen and Denny. And then her mom.thanking them. And the picnic asdfghjkllsha. I cried ngl.
THE WELCOME HOME PARTY
Ah the welcome home party. Where we see Eddie reunite with his everyone, but especially Christopher as the camera focuses on the father and son and then pans to Buck smiling brightly at them. Like they're girlfriends are literally RIGHT THERE and yet we focus on the Buckley Diaz family. Ajajsssksjsh. That entire moment warmed my heart.
WAIT OH MY GOD ALBERTS A FIREFIGHTER
"FIREFIGHTER HAN"
AGDJAKMSKSJ
right??? like earlier this episode when Albert picked up Hen's phone my mind immediately went "hmmm I wonder if Albert will be a firefighter next season" but then I completely forgot about that thought and then that ending scene came I aksjsjshssksjs I was so freaking happy I can't even (also Ravi the Probie was there in that scene which made me really happy bc I really love him). Seeing the 118 firefam being there to support Firefighter Albert just alwjakajshshshs *clenches heart*
OH MY GOD AND THE SUPPORT NOTICE FOR PEOPLE WITH POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION
THIS SHOW REALLY IS DOING A LOT TO BRING ATTENTION TO LOTS OF SERIOUS THINGS AND THAT IS SO AMAZING
I know right?? ngl I'm in awe with how many important and serious things they bring up that need to be talked about. Especially something like Postpartum which is incredibly important to talk about and show but rarely is. Along with everything else they talk about which is either rarely shown or not at all (like Hen's story with the medical racism and prejudices or the conversation that Athena and Hen had about that missing girl). One of the many, many reasons why Iove this show so damn much.
IM CRYING WHY IS IT OVER
I'M CRYING RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. Tonight was the first night without a new episode and I'm a mess. idk how I'm gonna handle this summer hiatus until s5. I'm probably gonna do a rewatch lol.
Anyways, sorry this is late and I hope it's okay that I put the rest of the asks together. But I'm freaking glad you finished the show and loved it so much too! It truly is *chef's kiss*

dont believe everything you hear

Something something Buck and Eddie sat together at the henren vow renewal looking out over their chosen family
And Eddie saying something like "here we are single again, and so much romance around us everyone is here with the person they're meant to be with"
And Buck responding something like "its nice to see them happy....but do you ever think maybe that maybe we are with the person we're meant to be with"
And Eddie all confused
And Buck continues "me and you and Christopher, we're a team, girlfriends come and go but we will always have each other"
OR
Eddie: "look at our family, all with the person they're meant to be with"
Buck: "and you've got me"
Eddie: "and I've got you" *smiles*
And they cheers and drink to it
And we spend the hiatus absolutely feral whilst the writers try to explain to us thats just how bros are

LISTEN
I LOVE Ravi thinks Buck and Eddie are divorced head canons
They are simply one of the best things to come from this fandom
BUT WHAT IF
The reason he thinks that is because back when he was on B shift he was on a call and bumped into Lena Bosko and her crew
And Lena sees he's from the 118 and asks
"How's Buckley and Diaz's divorce going?"
And Ravi has a light bulb moment where he's like ok everything makes sense now and literally nothing that has happened as he moved to A shift has proven him wrong

My #1 post of 2022
Enolas mum was like "honey you need other people"
So she went out and got herself a boyfriend.
Then saw how lonely her brother was and got him one too.
Good for her.
