I guess it’s more of a podcast sponsor in my experience but OH MY GOD it’s such a bad business, but more importantly for this poll I just hate hearing youtubers/podcasters put on a serious voice to talk about Mental Health and how they themselves have struggled with Burnout and blah blah it literally all sounds the same. Takes advantage of people needing access to mental health care, when in reality BetterHelp is a terrible company that treats therapists AND clients like shit. The FTC recently gave them a huge fine for selling client health data to for-profit advertising corporations like Facebook but they still deny wrongdoing and haven't stopped the shill campaign. At least when a meal kit service or w/e is poor-quality usually all it means is you wasted your money, but if you trust the wrong therapy service there is a lot more that can go horribly wrong. (Cerebral is even worse since it was essentially all the problems of BetterHelp mixed with handing out addictive controlled substances like candy, but I haven't seen it on Youtube as much)

This is the only sponsorship that has actively made me unsubscribe from anyone that advertises it. While others like raycon or squarespace are usually annoying. Betterhelp is actively harmful to both their patients and their therapists, sells personal health data of their users to ad companies and it isn't even cheaper than real therapy at this point like they claim to be. It makes me see red when I see another youtuber saying how "good" it is and how it helped them (which it honestly looks like a script at this point) and telling their usually young audience to sign in. to me they are so close its beyond friends, beyond brothers almost. sort of obikin style. they bonded in such intense circumstances - james was the first evidence we have of sirius being tempted away from his family, their friendship was literally built on sirius moving to the direct opposite of who his family are aka james. it was never just oh we get on well. they were intwined by fate from that moment on. then beyond that they understand each other so intrinsically in that way you only can when you're slightly too much, too smart, too outside of the world around you, however that plays out. they're both ridiculously intelligent and hyper and have that posh boy confidence that says they can do whatever they want. and as james is an only child and sirius grew up repressed and miserable, it stands to me they're the first chance each other has to run wild, and they spend 7 years doing that. they're equals when neither of them ever had or ever will have an equal in that sense. and then added onto that is all the normal friendship stuff, the coming of age, and thats even before the war

and again like obikin i think when you take that level of intensity and both of them being a lil fruity its always going to have an edge to it. they really truly are attracted to each other, but i dont think in a (mostly) sexual or romantic way. i think its everything else that i said above, but i also dont think you can ever avoid that spilling over the boundaries

all that being said, i dont think for a minute they'd ever act on it. for james bc he would just truly never consider it. i don't think there's anything from sirius james needs in that way, and he would never ever just mess around with him drunkenly when their friendship is fucking everything to him. i dont think the idea would even enter his brain

for sirius, i think he 100% has a crush on james at one point when hes much younger - bc he's gay af, and i think the first place those feelings would be directed was his super intense friendship, and bc they're so co-dependent and sirius is so obsessed with him, i think a bunch of hormones and a gay life crisis would just blur that all together. but then i think that would calm down and he'd get a sense of who he was and who he was into, and after a good couple of years of soul searching and growing up would THEN realise he'd been obsessed with his other best friend for quite a while in a very different way

and above all. i just fucking love that someone so extremely gay who is so confident and unapologetic and would be exactly like that about his sexuality CAN ALSO have a best friend of the same gender. an incredibly close best friend with whom he has almost no boundaries. it heals my internalised homophobic fear of being a predator heart so much

tl;dr they have an intense and obsessive and devoted and co-dependent friendship that binds them together in a way far beyond just brothers, and i think is representative of the extreme kind of people they are, and the extreme circumstances they're in. i would love to see more wolfstar fics that capture that beyond hahaha james and sirius are so married. james is intrinsic to who sirius is and what his story is just as much as remus. i love them both with my WHOLE FUCKING HEART i would die for them i will literally never stop talking about how much i adore them

10:45 im reeeeally excited to see how this plot develops. i honestly assumed this series would be more like the web shorts except longer and more developed. as in, episodic and largely unrelated to one another, but im soo hype to see them doing something more serialized with overarching conflict and stakes. also we <3 classic troublemaking cant mind her own damn business toralei. like girl you have no reason for acting like this. she is simply a messy bitch.

final thoughts: really really liked it. love the visuals and the ways the new characterization plays with old beloved traits. love that this series has more of a familiar cartoon hijinks vibe rather than leaning too hard into it being like a Teen Girl Show just because the toys are first and foremost a fashion doll line. i dont know if im articulating that well i just mean i like that the girls are allowed to have like a full range of motion and action and emotion, and that they can be like gross and funny in addition to pretty. i think g1 had a good start in this regard but was definitely limited both by the animation and the expectation to follow that niche established by like barbie/bratz animated works (no hate to any of those either tho)

there are changes that ill need to get used to obviously, but i feel like the franchise is heading in a strong new direction. i saw some folks complaining that the bits about draculauras witchcraft and clawdeens half monster/half human felt like they were introduced as a means to employ annoying Fantasy Racism tropes, and thats a really valid criticism, but its also kind of something monster high has always done (with regards to monster/human conflict, certain monsters being discriminated against for certain traits, jackson jekylls entire character, etc).

i get the concern, but i feel like in a series so centered on embracing differences its kind of impossible to not include issues of discrimination, and it being a kids fantasy series, that does sometimes translate in a way that feels wonky or oversimplified at best. tho tbh monster highs execution regarding the subject always kind of felt to me like one of the better ones. idk. im just feeling good about this first look and excited to see how the show and the monster high franchise as a whole develops further as we move forward.

i adore espresso! im a bit mentally ill but basically he is like a sibling to me i love him he's one of my favorites

im fucking sick of cookie run fans though!

everyone is so obsessed with shipping him with that white BEAST madeleine that they completely ignore what both of their personalities are like and how their dynamic works In Canon.

espresso is not a stuck-up, haughty bitch. i don't understand how this is the consistent view of his personality - i mean, i do; it's because his interactions with madeleine are the only ones anyone ever pays any damn attention to. Like, look at the way he talks to other people for once? he is not the tsundere of your fujoshi bait ship. straight up he just doesn't like madeleine.

he is kind, relaxed, and very, very mild tempered. yes, he's proud, but? he deserves it goddamn look at what he's accomplished? he's also just busy af. but not once does he look down upon other people like they're less than him. unlike a certain white beast i know (MADELEINE? no one remembers how much of a DICK he was to knight over something as superficial as ARMOR.)

look at how comfortable snow sugar was with approaching him in the puppet theatre event. yes, he tells them to leave long requests in writing but think about it. he was probably actively busy in that moment, which means snow sugar was not only comfortable with approaching him, they were comfortable with interrupting him. snow sugar is shy as hell! but that is just the aura espresso gives off. he may be busy, but he is friendly and patient.

his teaching methods are. unorthodox. he's certainly not as eager to actively teach as latte for instance, but that doesn't make him an ass either? something something, being employed at the institute allows him easy access to the materials he needs to continue his research, but the specific magic he specializes in is volatile and genuinely complex, as we see in the teaching event. i don't think he's necessarily wrong in being reluctant to teach it to inexperienced magic users. especially a full class of them. like that could get dangerous very quickly. it's hard enough for him to keep an eye on just one kid doing it.

aside from a few instances of being irritated at formulas going wrong, the only times espresso's irritated/angry sprites are used are when madeleine is around. because he doesn't like madeleine. at all. and even then, he is, for the most part, outwardly polite to him. i know it's an insane concept for some of you. but black people are not always angry and irritable. espresso is genuinely friendly and even playful and teasing to everyone who is not Madeleine Cookie.

but the yaoi-esque ship is too important to yall and you just haaaaaave to re-interpret espresso in the most racist way imaginable. i know. 🧍🏾‍♀️

had they tried to constantly be around deku protect him work with him they wouldn't help things at all because deku doesnt want to be around people he doesn't want to hurt anyone with his presence anymore and the fact he's being sheltered would make him upset because he's the best thing they have

even if they told him from the beginning that deku had to stay in UA and that he shouldn't go out and about deku still would have and nobody could stop him he was never going to stay put he was never going to let himself be safe be around people be cared for because he doesnt care about himself

enji probably could have kept deku from going rouge for a little bit longer and shouto is rightfully upset at him because we all want to think that the number one hero would be able to protect deku especially shouto cuz said hero is his father

but just as katsuki stopped him by putting his hand on his shoulder I'm going to do the same and tell you what katsuki said as well

endeavor could have never kept deku from going off on his own it's not his fault it's not anyones fault maybe it's the vestiges fault for pushing deku maybe it's all might's fault for enabling him it's definitely all for one's fault for the mere fact he exists but no one outside of class 1A would have been able to stop deku because no one but his dearest friends would understand without seeming like they're looking down on him

There’s so many things I love about the show that I haven’t seen people give enough credit for and I want to go on a little ramble because people are focusing so much on what they don’t like vs. what they do. So here’s my list. Sorry for the grammatical errors 😬

I love that the lesbian main character is this sweet, innocent, big hearted young woman and not portrayed as a overly sexual fuckboi that hits on every woman. I love that Fatou is soft and gentle. More lesbian rep like that please

I love the soundtrack. It’s exactly the type of stuff I imagine Fatou would listen to and it’s not just the top 100 hit songs.

I love that they use the soundtrack as a way to connect to the plot line, like the lyrics to the song Fatou was listening to when she was on the rooftop said “And I hate to leave you feeling all alone.But your story cannot start until you've grown. You can find how to be OK on your own. I just can't be the one that makes you feel at home” which was a hint as to where the plot was going

I love the little mannerisms Nhungi chooses to show as Kieu My. The happy little bounce she did in ep 1 when she called out Fatou’s name and when she subtly checked Fatou out by looking her up and down.

I love how their rooms show their individual personality so well. Like Fatou’s room in the beginning of the season was normal and then it became increasingly messy as the episodes moved forward, showing her stress and chaos in her life

I love that the show showed the struggles of coming from a bilingual family and being the only one that struggles to speak it. When fatou was talking to her grandparents with her brother and her brother had to translate for her and it was awkward af, I felt that. I’m the youngest in my family and I struggle to speak Tagalog so people have to translate for me sometimes and it sucks.

^^ I relate to fatou so much in that scene cuz the dynamic in my family is the same as Fatou’s. My parents lay off and let me and my brother do our thing unless there’s an indication we need their help. The only time I ever spoke about school with my family was when report cards would come and they would see my grades weren’t that good. I remember my mom seeing I had a D in middle school and automatically jumping to conclusiosn without letting me speak. My brother is academically successful and he would also try and get me to do more school stuff when I was younger. Like he would make me do math problems to help with my grades. So it’s all very relatable for me

I love when Fatou sings, her voice is so soft and smooth.

I love whenever Kieu My and fatou are flirting both so blatantly and yet so subtly. Like the tension is there but it’s still awkward despite how smooth they both try to be it’s so adorable

I love how Fatou and Kieu My are so confident flirting and talking to eachother through texting but when it’s irl it’s still awkward and new. It shows the reality of an actual relationship in the making. It’s not just a full head dive into “I love you”.

I love when they were at the table tennis bar place and Fatou was hyping up Ava when there were dudes looking at them and Ava did a fancy ass turn and smile. She’s so pretty

I love that Fatou’s problems were shown in subtle ways in the beginning with money. Counting money at her job and when she wa trying to pay for the drink at the bar. It was a small interaction but in real life it would cause a lot of stress and anxiety if money counting problems kept happening over and over again

I love Yara and Josh’s friendship. More platonic friendship between a male and a female please. Also more Yara in general please.

I love that Zoe owned up to her actions last year to the entire group (minus Ismail Constantine and Kieu my) on New Years. I see her owning up to the role as Nora’s big sister.

I love when Josh was drinking a lot during New Years and Fatou was trying to get him to slow down. It shows how big her heart is for her friends. Also I think Josh and Fatou could be great friends

I love that Kieu My looks at Fatou like she hung the stars. When Fatou mentioned she knew Kieu My was a Scorpio, it’s the first time I’ve ever seen that girl smiled so big (before episode 5 of course)

I love that they change Fatou’s hair. She looks good in every hair style but it’s always nice to see her in different styles.

I love that they showed the struggles of being a passive and gentle person. Because we’re not assertive in regular everyday life we are easily looked over. And it’s hard for us to muster the gusto to be assertive and take what we need because we prefer shying away from conflict and just letting things flow. I relate to fatou’s character so much in that sense. I lowkey think this is the universe’s way of telling me to stop being so passive about life and to take charge idk.

I love that the topic of white savior and performative activism was touched on. And I love that it was between two friends because it’s very realistic to how dynamics work between young people these days. The way they handle it differs in opinion but the fact that they even spoke about it was great.

I love that moment when Kieu My wrapped the vietnamese pancake in the lettuce snd handed it to Fatou. Its so sweet. If I was Fatou I would have forgiven her right then and there lol

I love Sira’s acting in general. But the way she shows Fatou’s sadness is great. It’s not just tears and that’s it. When she got fired it was a build up of tears but she wasn’t sobbing, same thing with the cashqueens argument. But she broke when her and Kieu My got in a fight.

Finn being socially awkward. It’s so funny cuz Zoe is this bubbly party girl and her boyfriend is so awkward. Nice balance.

Ismail opening up to Fatou shows how so many people feel at ease with her. Girl has a calming presence for everybody, she doesn’t even realize how much she’s helped others.

i didnt think the 'andy + slavery' thing was handled as badly as everyone made it out to be when telling me about it. tho from the way it was talked about i had kind of figured the conflict between andy and nile re: slavery would be really racially charged (esp considering nile is a black american and would obvs have Thoughts on the subject in that regard) but like,, done in a cringey 'a-white-guy-obviously-wrote-it' kind of way? but it wasnt that. i mean. it makes sense that andy would be implicit in slavery through the years

i mean, like she says, is that not what people just did to each other in the aftermath of battles for thousands of years? and i really like how its pointed out that it was what she was raised with (in the beginning when you see her put shackles on that guy after the battle) but she also accepts responsibility for it and acknowledges that it was wrong and not just 'what people did'.

i like how from her expressions you can kind of tell baby andy knew it was off but she sets those feelings aside bc she felt angry. it explains how she felt but didnt make her out to be blameless in it. plus i mean. i dont know, the fact that andy was involved in a lot of morally shady stuff for 7000 years is not that wild for me. if you live that long youre just Going to be involved in some shit, and she didnt even have other immortals with her as positive community influences, she literally just did whatever the fuck she wanted for thousands of years

i dont know, i get why people didnt like the ending but its. .. . it makes more sense in the comicverse. bc the squad doesnt really. .. interact outside of jobs? i mean, think of the moon landing story in ttt. that was booker and joe and nicky doing a job and andy only showed up a for a couple minutes after it was done. or the brunch in the first issue of opening fire. the squad arent as tight in the comic, and andy often seems to do her own thing outside of work, so andy saying 'i dont want to do work anymore' and the squad being like 'alright bye then' makes more sense in this universe than the movie one

also i feel like greg was Trying to set up a thing where nile becomes the Leader of The Squad after andy dies but like. its not very well done since. . . i mean, nile hasnt spoken to booker since opening fire, (and she only knew him A Day). and shes known joe and nicky all that time, but there isnt really anything that indicates that they have any relationship at all, much less one that's grown. in all the comicverse the only time nile and nicky speak is in FM, and in that scene nicky tells nile about noriko. nile goes from someone who needs to be set aside to have background knowledge explained to her to being the Leader of the group with nothing in between. it kind of... comes out of nowhere.

on the other hand tho... i felt really bad for andy thru the whole thing. well, i always felt bad for andy, but in this one she seemed so miserable, especially since it really felt like none of the others actually.... cared about her. when noriko came back no one asked andy how she was doing (big question ik, but it wouldve showed they cared at least), nobody ever expressed any concern for her, no one even really seemed to want to be around her. in opening fire everyone was more distant than in the movie of course, but there were little moments where she would joke with joe, or nicky would try and comfort her, or stuff like that, but in FM it really felt like they just didnt really care about her. & in opening fire it felt a lot like andy's relationship with nile breathed some new life into her, but in FM it felt like all they did was argue. i get theyre not *as* close in the comics but it really felt like the only person who cared about andy at all was noriko (which was probably also how andy felt) but it just seemed to come out of nowhere. honestly i was reading and i was honestly agreeing with andy that she might just be better off if she did just die. opening fire, on the other hand, never make me feel that way

tho everyone made it sound like when the squad split up it was one of those cursed 'the found family leaves each other at the end of the journey' tropes. but guys i mean,,, this is the second installment out of three. that isnt the End. theyll come back in the third one and Dramatically Reunite to fight some baddies (probably those 'others' noriko mentioned). im guessing yitzhak fits into that too somehow.

anyways it wasnt That Bad but it made me kind of sad and the only Sweet Found Family vibes in it were when they saved booker. also they shouldve beefed up that nilemoose romance, it underwhelmed me. 6.5/10

i also ABSOLUTELY understand all of greg's comments about how you couldnt make FM directly into a movie, he always said that it had no plot and. i get it now. it really didnt have a plot sdfghjkl

Im a libra sun, scropio moon, and gemini rising. I am a bit of a violent person at times but I have a punching bag and boxing gloves which help a lot. But I only get that angry when someone uses an insecurity of mine against me or is talking bad about someone i love, cause it you do that im beating your ass. I do have a bit of body insecurities mainly about my hip-dips and stomach. But because im curvy i get hit on by adults a lot and its creepy as fuck.

My hobbies include art (painting, drawing), sleeping (because i stay up mad late😭✌🏽), reading comics, Marvel and D.C superheroes, and super villains, cartoons, and anime/manga.
