#i also want to know how Bard Magic works on the boiling isles and what her favorite kind of music is

I don’t know if anyone's mentioned this before, but Raine's titan badge after the time skip looks a bit different than the others:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have this red piece of cloth attached to their badge that I haven't seen on anybody else.
Now, theorising time: I think they might be part of the new government, maybe even the president of the Boiling Isles. Hear me out, I have good reasons to believe so (and it's not just because they're my favourite character and I'm biased, shush):
1) As the former head of the Bard Coven, they'd certainly be qualified for the job: Raine has been part of the government before (as much as you can be when you're not the monarch in a monarchy lol) and knows how to lead.
2) They're probably more respected/trusted by the population of the Boiling Isles than most other public figures at this point - working together with the wannabe genocidal former emperor tends to ruin your reputation, so someone who led a rebellion against Belos (and fought against him personally in the final fight, though the question is if anyone except the people who were there knows about that) and has ties to other known rebels aka Eda should be quite well-liked.
3) They have already proven that they're able to make sacrifices for the sake of the whole Isles (for example: risking their own life and that of the woman they love to stop the Day of Unity in Eda's Requiem). Most of the other characters, like Eda and Luz, in comparison, have proven again and again that they would never be able to sacrifice someone they care about - which is an admirable trait, don't get me wrong, but you want a political leader to be able to consider what choices are best for everyone and compromise, if necessary.
4) It would be a great conclusion to their character arc: Raine spent half of their life trying to destroy the coven system from the inside and has witnessed its worst sides first-hand, let them be the one to build something new and better for the future of the Boiling Isled.
So in conclusion: Raine has the potential to be a great president....... as long as nobody forces them to make public speeches regularly.
Them being a member of the government would also explain why they are present when that coven sigil was removed: Why would someone who specialises in Bard magic be needed for something that seems to be based on Healing and Abomination magic? Because they're a representative of the government/the Boiling Isles!
Also...........
Give me power couple Raeda as president of the Boiling Isles and Headmistress of the University of Wild Magic!!

Assorted Musings: A Jumbled Collection of Owl House Rewrites
So, I've been thinking of ways to improve The Owl House and the short answer is: make it actually stick to its premise. Show how the Boiling Isles is under the thumb of an oppressive dictator, make Luz an actual outsider in her home world, better explain how Belos came to power, etc.
The following is just a loose assortment of basic premises without rhyme or reason:
On Hexside and Amity-
Hexside and all schools (all buildings really) have a portrait of the Emperor that they say a vow to commit themselves to eradicating wild magic and upholding the Titan's laws. Luz is creeped out to the max by this as it reminds her of North Korea and other dictatorships (in addition to loving Azura, she's also a massive history nerd, to the point of correcting her teachers back home. She doesn't have many friends because she's rather intense about her hyper fixations and can be rather judgy). Hexside is also an exclusive school where a lot of students end up getting into the EC or in the upper echelons of the coven system. They have portraits of all the Hexside alumni who served as coven heads.
Amity is the top student of the school and a firm believer in the Emperor, since her mother is the ceo of Blight Industries and works closely with the Emperor himself. It is guaranteed she will be in the Emperor's Coven. She doesn't actively bully Willow, but does shun her and because of her influence, other kids avoid "half-witch" Willow as well.
On Luz in the Boiling Isles-
Eda is lazy and only took Luz in to help her in her illegal trade and sends her to Hexside so she will at least be out of her hair. She disguises Luz as a witch with undetectable magic (it can only be used in small amounts and only for minor spells). The detention kids don't multi-track as such an idea is sacrilege and it takes Luz to introduce the idea to them. Even then, they're nervous as hell about it. But Luz being Luz, she convinces them that it's not "wild magic" it's just trying out different methods to see if this is the right track. You don't want to upset the Titan by choosing the wrong magic, right?
While she is disguised as a witch in Hexside, she obviously can't use magic, which everyone makes fun of (like Akko in Little Witch Academia). She excells in Potions and Tarot Card Reading, basically anything that doesn't require a bile sac. Everyone calls her a half-witch (a term for a witch with weak or no magical abilities--sometimes witches are born with a malfunctioning bile sac). She makes friends with Willow and Gus, who is still a nerd for all things human related but keeps that secret because human trash is quickly picked up by the coven scouts. Luz steals some of Eda's human junk and explains what they are to Willow and Gus. He's thrilled but also terrified because his new friend is showing him contraband. Willow is suspicious and questions how Luz knows so much. Luz hems and haws for a bit before changing the subject. Hooty is pretty much the same. 10/10 character. King is not a child in this rewrite. His egg was in stasis for a long time and when he hatched he's functionally an adolescent but being in the egg for so long stunted his growth. He's very immature and still thinks he's the King of Demons. He pretends to hate Azura but rereads Luz's book when she's at school. Then Luz stumbles upon his fan fiction. Eda figured out right away that Luz stole her stuff ("but I gave it back, Eda!" "yeah, and I was going to sell it this afternoon but then it mysteriously wasn't in my inventory. You lost me a customer, Luz.") Eda then teaches Luz how to be a better thief and find more human stuff before the EC does.
On Belos-
Under Belos' reign, witches are judged by their strength and power; certain covens have more prestige than others: Abomination and Plant are near the top. Construction and Healing are more in the middle. Bard is at the bottom. Back in the days of the Titan, magic was communal and while, you could specialize in a specific type of magic, it was not regimented and more seen as a preference. All of it came from the Titan and all witches shared their knowledge and gifts equally.
In the days of the Titan, the Titan could speak to people but only through mediums. Although, there were some who argued that the Titan could commune with anyone if you listened and kept yourself spiritually open. Even then, some doubted how the Titan could talk at all if it was dead and perhaps the mediums were just powerful oracle/illusion witches. This led to some factions and divisions over what magic really is in the isles and how it is best used. Over time, fewer witches shared their gifts equally and petty squabbles warped into tribal conflicts. Belos manipulated these tensions by claiming the "elite" mediums spread lies about the Titan's wishes. He claimed that there used to be peace because there was one system and one way of doing things instead of all of this confusion and division. He passed himself off as a humble witch who received a vision from the Titan saying that magic should be unified. But this vision was so powerful that it left his face scarred, hence the mask (although he will show the doubting crowd his face). That only the wisest and most experienced witches could realistically practice all forms of magic while the rest would do the Titan's work in their chosen field. That way, the gifts of the Titan is still being shared among the populace but now with proper guidance. And thus the coven system was born.
Belos uses his curse as proof of being the Prophet of the Titan; when he regenerates an injury without healing magic, everyone is shocked but most importantly, they believe him. He spends his time proselytizing from town to town amassing a following. He calls them his "little birds" and they all wear bird masks as a precursor to the coven scout uniform. When they (rarely) experience violence, Belos whips them up into a frenzy as proof that the "wild witches" are against them. In one incident, Belos and his followers are prevented from preaching in a town. A fight breaks out and one of his followers is killed. Belos declares them a martyr and asks if his followers will sit by and not defend themselves? The crowd--already upset of course--then burns the town to the ground. As the years go by, people notice that Belos doesn't age and doesn't eat or drink, leading more people to believe in his divine message and join him.

i think it’s kind of interesting with the hexside tracks convo. i actually think construction magic is the only coven-specific type of magic we’ve ever seen hunter do? with that big earth fist he whacked amity with in eclipse lake. i don’t know if that would be an argument for or against him taking it as a class, but i feel like everything else we’ve ever seen him do is like,, not tied to a coven besides that one spell
(this is related to this old post but i put the answer in my drafts and the option of posting it vanished from my memory lmao)
tbh that IS true, i forgor it can be technically considered construction magic kxjsjks
i feel like there are so many spells and different "sub magic types" and magic courses that are kinda unclear which track they'd be taught at or where they fall under, especially since there are some tracks/magic types that we've only seen used in a very general way; like construction or oracle. we've seen manyyyy possibilities for some tracks, like abomination (like what darius vs alador vs amity can do, how differently it can be used) or bard (how at first glance it just feels like a "yeah we use instruments to fight and do spells" but then we also find out how much you can truly do with it and how much actually falls under bard magic through raine) or illusions (everything that gus, and graye, have been shown to do) etc. but some tracks/covens we have really just been kinda... shown from a very surface level lol
hell, i still wonder why anyone would ever choose a potion coven in a world during belos' reign, where you have to choose to only have one magic type, because... from all we've seen it seems like in order to make potions you don't really need any magic (having magic can help but it's not necessarily needed) so what magic DO you get??? you have to get something (maybe magic that can assist you in making potions?) but we have no clear idea what. also considering how oftentimes potion-making is also tied in with other magic types (like plants or healing or beast-keeping) it almost feels like it should be a sub-type of each magic or an addition rather than its own thing. BUT KXJSHSK YEAH like, we don't know! i wish it was more clearly fleshed out in the show.
there's also the fact that now that belos is gone, the society is able to take back their culture and history and practices that were lost to time and as we can see in the epilogue they're actively working on making the boiling isles less... belos-influenced. they're working on that process of decolonization and it's going to be a long LOOONG while until traces of belos' impact completely disappear, but there are already clear changes. the sky is clear again (just like it was in the "savage ages" - a contrast to the pollution we see in the emperor's coven era), palismen are being carved again and palistroms are coming back from being endangered, selkidomus is doing good, the once a police precinct in latissa is now a hospital and the hostile architecture around it (the spikes) is gone, there's now a way to remove sigils and everyone is free to pursue whatever they want. the society is healing. etc.
and covens, magic being split into these clear subtypes- was not ever really something natural. like yeah, there ARE magic types that seem very clearly "thematic" like you can very clearly separate bard magic from plant magic, and a witch can be naturally skilled in a particular thing (like willow or gus) but there are also some spells that overlap and some that seemingly don't fit into any covens at all. belos made up covens in order to limit witches' bodily autonomy and control their abilities, in order to seem more powerful and to create this structure of power. so i imagine that if you are in a coven, in any coven, there are spells that don't quite fit any of them, or some that fit all.
i. ngl i completely derailed the ask and forgot where i was going with this LMAO but yeah

Writing Notes! A Song of Thunder and Ice
I’ve gotten a few questions about writing the last chapter’s Bard fight scene , and these kind of asks make me GIDDY AF.
Prepare for a long explanation!
Spoilers below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ALWAYS listen to music when I write, but before that I usually spend some time walking and listening to music. The movement and music jumpstarts my thought process, but it gives me a chance to shuffle through various forms of music and see how the intended scene is going to work.
For the regular scenes, the mood and lyrics are key. Sometimes I have an idea and I just can't seem to get it to work ... then random pulls up the PERFECT song ... and I discover something new, or rediscover something I forgot and -- boom -- I can hear the dialogue and the flow of the plot moves naturally.
Other times it just doesn't happen.
That's how it happened the first time Hunter faced down the false Golden Guard. All the songs I wanted Hunter to use to kick butt just didn't work. Then a friend started talking about Pulp Fiction, and I remembered Miserlou. The more I researched it, the more I realized how perfect it was.
We've seen Hunter use Bard magic a few other times in the series, but this was his second BATTLE and he is fighting it alongside Raine who we now know was his teacher and has become a close friend.
Even though Raine taught Hunter (more than just guitar) they have distinct styles. We know that they have jammed together in the past with Steve for fun, but fighting together was a different beast.
I imagined they'd use their fox violin/palisman (whom I called "Freddie" after Freddie Mercury in a shorter fic.)
Obviously, Hunter would summon his Rickenbacker... so I began to think about how rock music and violin would fit?
I began to think about Lindsay Stirling and her electric violin, which led me down a rabbit hole of her catalog. Roundtable Rival was a real contender here ... but I wanted Hunter to use a song that was closer to the quick sharp sound he'd used in that first fight.
I also wanted there to be a weather component to it since this fight takes place during Winter on the Boiling Isles.
Thunderstruck by AC/DC leapt right out at me. Yeah. Hunter would play Thunderstruck and summon a storm.
I began listening to the opening of Thunderstruck along side several of Lindsay Sterling's Violin pieces and came across Ice Storm ... which was just TOO good a match up. Ice Storm had a similar fury to what I was going for -- it had a weather based title, and it managed to be elegant while maintaining a modern undercurrent that hit the right notes (pun intended. I'll show myself the door.)
Aside from listening to the two songs back to back, I also listened to 2CELLOS version of Thunderstruck, which is as close to an actual mashup of the OG AC/DC song and Ice Storm as exists IRL.
Hope this wasn't too self indulgent!

I know I should just be grateful he's dead, but I can't help but think Hunter should have been the one to kill Belos. Like, I know he abused everyone, but Hunter had to live with him. Plus, it would've been cool if while Hunter was stomping on him, Belos' vision kept flashing between seeing Hunter, Caleb, and the other Golden Guards as if Hunter was letting them all get a shot at revenge.
I’ve seen this argument and imma have ta disagree that Hunter should’ve been there. There’s several reasons as to why and I’m gonna try and keep it as short as I can (as I’m answering this during a lunch break at work).
1.) Luz and Belos are opposites in several ways, while they’re both humans they both approached the Boiling Isles in different ways. Belos sought to destroy all life on the Isles which when we see “the Savage Era” it’s actually pretty peaceful. Luz however embraced the Isles and wanted to be there because she felt like she belonged there whereas Belos wanted to go home after destroying everything. Luz also did what Belos was lying about the whole time after he started his Coven grift, Luz not only actually talked to the Titan but the Titan was talking to Luz through the glyphs and showing them to her freely, while Belos had to hunt down and force his way into finding the glyphs. At the end, Luz calls herself a human witch and Belos calls himself a human while he’s melting away as a pile of goop, a substance that he’s been for decades while pretending to still be human.
2.) Eda is very likely a descendant of Evelyn who was very likely a Clawthorne, which would make her Belos’ great great (insert how many needed) grand niece and from what little we say in Belos’ mind, Eda is the spitting image of Evelyn. King is the last Titan, the son of the Titan whom Belos claims to have been speaking to and tried to use to wipe out the Isles. And finally Raine is a non-binary witch bard (music was even banned by puritans in some parts), who not only was fighting Belos’ Coven system from within but later fought Belos when he tried to possess their toy-form. Those three curb-stomping Belos after Luz rejected Belos’ “plea” for help symbolizing all of the “evil” he tried to wipe out getting the last laugh.
3.) Hunter being the clone of Belos’ older brother Caleb who was a former Witch-Hunter could be nice to have there at the final fight but consider this instead. After Caleb met Evelyn and he learned that witches (real ones) are as evil as he was led to believe, he even fell in love with one and attempted to start a family with her, Caleb did what both Luz and Hunter was able to do. Hunter even breaking from his uncle’s chain through a similar way to Caleb in that firstly he met Luz, a human witch who was using Wild Magic to cast spells and unlike Belos who restricted magic and convinced Hunter that it’s only through the artificial magic that Hunter is strong, Luz is more than willing to teach others and share her knowledge of glyph magic to Hunter. Secondly, Flapjack becoming Hunter’s Palisman. It’s unknown if Flapjack was Caleb or Evelyn’s Palisman originally but either way he was there and remembers Caleb whom Hunter is a clone of. Hunter could’ve easily turned Flapjack over to Belos but instead he kept him around and they became friends, the creature that is made from Wild Magic and who’s essence sustains Belos’ form from the curse, Hunter decided to keep this illegal creature hidden from his uncle. Thirdly there’s Willow and Gus, Hunter’s first real friends (not including Flapjack) and it’s this friendship that he starts to see more of what Luz and Darius have been pushing for with Hunter, for him to learn that the Isles and it’s people aren’t evil and filled with backstabbers. Hunter found within Willow and Gus people whom he can trust without a doubt which is more than any of the Coven heads and Belos can claim.
4.) Hunter’s role in the finale was what Caleb was trying to do with Philip. Since we don’t know the full story behind Caleb and Philip (fuck you disney for canceling the show), we can only speculate on what happened and from what I saw is that Caleb grew up a hopeful Witch-Hunter alongside Philip, but when Caleb met Evelyn and saw the Demon Realm, he fell in love with not just the witch but it’s world and people. So much so that he started a family. Him trying to make peace with Philip was likely him trying to protect the Isles from Philip and other Witch-Hunters, t what do you think would happen had Evelyn not taken the portal and hid it after Caleb’s death? Philip would’ve brought back up and committed genocide of the Isles. Caleb however wanted to try and convince his little brother that the Isles and it’s people where also good. That’s a lesson that Hunter had to learn and him trying to get as many people as he could out of the falling Archive was what Caleb would’ve done in that situation, to save the Isles from evil people like Philip/Belos. The fact that there are so many former Golden Guards, so many attempts by Belos to remake his brother but having to kill each one shows that each new clone continued to try and protect the Isles and it’s people from Belos just as Caleb wanted to do against Philip. The difference is that Caleb/Hunter is willing to show mercy while Philip/Belos does not.
So now we have Hunter with his technically family carving Palismans and helping the people of the Isles. He’s living a good life which is more than enough to get back at Belos (tho’ I wouldn’t be surprised if Luz showed him the spot and Hunter took a few stomps)
Sorry, I tried to keep it short but I failed. I still have thoughts on this but my lunch break is over so that’s all I got so far.

Sorry, I'm late but here are my thoughts on Watching And Dreaming!
I'm still so shook, like it just hit me that we're never gonna see these magical weirdos again. But no worries, the love for them will still live on here! Again, there's spoilers down here, so beware!
Ofc Belos came up w/the nightmare idea to fuck with Luz, Eda, & King
Glad Luz was able to put two & two together and get the Hexsquad (for the time being), Eda, & King to snap out of it
COLLECTOR YOU SWEET BBY BOI!!! He just wants a friend who gets them; I'm glad that the 3 weirdos got through to them eventually!
Raine being a total badass fighting back Belos with their bard magic! Really wish we got more info on Bard magic, especially since my TOH OC focuses on that brand of magic! 🎻
Also, Collector sweetie, no. Belos doesn't deserve your (or anyone else's) forgiveness!
They're obviously not gonna kill of my girl Luz, I knew that! Feral mode Eda AND King going to avenge her regardless!
The Collector crying and confused over the concept of death, loss & true sadness!!! 😭😭😭
So the Puppet Amity screenshot leak was real!
Luz meeting The Titan in limbo! Love his drip (I want those glyph sweatpants now!)
HE'S BEEN ABLE TO WATCH OVER HIS BOI KING THE WHOLE TIME!!!! 😭
TITAN!LUZ?!?!?! Well, I know now who I'm gonna be for Halloween this year (or for a future cosplay idea). I wish she got to keep that form; mostly cuz I wanted Amity to react to that form! 😍😍😍
The Collector helping the reawakened Hexsquad & Camila to protect the puppeted citizens in The Archives
"EAT THIS SUCKA!!!" My best Jontron impression: "She's in boys, she did it, she said it! *Cue the airhorns*"
Belos using a lame ass excuse of "being cursed with dark magic like your mentor". Bye Felicia, hope you're melting burning in Hell! 😒🖕🏼
"I loaf you!" bread pun from a parent to their son, MY HEART!!! 🥲
Hexsquad & their families reunion
DADRIUS!!! And Hunter showing off his wolf shirt, my child <3
Hooty's sparkly eyed reawakening (wish we got at least one more witty remark from him)
The Collector should've stayed with the gang, especially after what he said about their past w/the other Collectors! I knew King would give him Francois as a parting gift/symbol of their friendship.
The glyphs don't work w/Luz anymore??? I know she still has String Bean, but just how else can she do magic? I guess we'll never know!
Cue the timeskip:
Of course, Luz graduated & is going to a magic university
Vee's new look, super cute as always
HARPY LILITH!!! Wish we got more time w/the look, but oh well! 😍
Bump definitely deserves a break after everything that went down. Eda's definitely a worthy successor as headmaster (love her pirate-like drip)!
Palisman carving Hunter! New blue jay pal Waffles; was hoping for a wolf palisman, but of course, too predictable. Besides, I love me some birdies!
Flyer derby champ Willow, slay queen! 🐝
Amity, Gus, & Raine's new looks are also adorable!
Also, did we ever get a confirmation on the name of Raine's palisman??? I feel like they're a Chauncey to me!
Smol Aladarius moment!
RIP Flapjack, you tiny but mighty hero! I also want that birdie tattoo on my wrist (maybe for my birthday, I'll see) 🐦
Luz having a surprise 18th birthday/belated King-Ceañera w/everyone in the Boiling Isles! Just like we wanted!!! 👏🏼
One last "BAIIIII!!!!" from everyone! 👋🏼
And that's the end, it's been real! Thanks again to @danaterrace and to all the cast & crew members behind the show.

Where we last left off, Terra got bored and decided to make some teens fight each other, a favorite sport of the people on the Boiling Isles.
Eda and her new friend Raine of course ended up on opposing teams meaning they are going to have to fight each other. Oh, and I literally just realized the irony in Eda, who would go on to become the most notorious wild witch in modern history ending up on the Coven team, and Raine, who would go on to become a coven leader ending up on the Wild Witch team.
Tumblr media
”I would have been such a good mum.”
Press X to doubt.
Tumblr media
Some action stuff happens, lots of pretty lights flying around. Raine summons a large pillar of light to get away. Eda mostly runs away because she really doesn’t want to fight anyone right now. At one point she takes control over another kids’ abomination and turns it into stairs for herself showing once again how she is skilled in multiple forms of magic.
She eventually runs into these guys who drag her along to go beat up her new friend.
The reason I paused here specifically is because I wanted to point out that the person on the left has a uniform I don’t recognize. So they might be from a fourth magic school.
It would also seem that bards are the new illusion witches because no one takes them seriously in this episode, just like no one took illusionists seriously in Through the Looking Glass Ruins.
Tumblr media
Looks like both Harvey and Gilbert got taken out (I learned their names between sessions. Don’t ask me who’s who though because I also managed to forget that between sessions). But hey, this is probably how they met and then things developed from there with the flyer derby team, falling in love, forming a family, and all that good stuff.
Oh, and I just realized that the guy with the five eyes kinda looks like the guy from the first episode back in season one, you know, the one from the Conformitorium. In fact, it COULD be the same guy. He just lost his hair somewhere along the way. And his shirt.
Tumblr media
Uh-oh, how are they gonna get out of this one? Because they obviously don’t want to fight. But at the same time, Eda needs her ribbon to not get expelled.
Tumblr media
Ah i see, they decided to try and impress Terra with their little dance routine which they did earlier. And just in case that doesn’t work, they throw in a little attempted murder. That is sure to impress her!
…actually, that might actually impress Terra. Not the dance, the attempted murder.
Something I like about this episode is that we get a really good sense of just how much Eda and Raine ”get” each other. They’re very much on the same wavelength. They’ve known each other for what can’t be more than a couple of hours. Yet neither of them verbally communicates this plan, they just do it.

KATYA + BACKSTORY
“Self-doubt is a prison you can never escape from...”
      ~Tinella Nosa, A Lying Witch and a Warden (2020)
( i also wanna thank @rhpsdys, who let me bounce a lotta these ideas against them with the BATTs in particular )
When most witches graduate, they join a coven, and proceed to dedicate the rest of their lives to their craft ...Katya never did that. It wasn’t that she had a problem with the idea of joining a coven, but despite her years of schooling, despite all of the potions classes she took because it was the most generalized magic to study, she never quite felt like any of the paths offered fit her. So, she took a gap year... which turned into two years... and then three...
The next thing she knows, she’s twenty-two and still hasn’t joined a coven. She’s still living with her parents, and their patience grows thin from the lack of direction in their daughter’s life. Katya would beg to differ. In fact, most of her days are spent working at her neighborhood’s local tavern, saving up her paychecks and tips for... something future-related. She could always put it towards getting her writings published, but... well, who wants to read silly little stories about foods falling in love? She loves them, but they were never quite meant for the world.
She finds out how true that winds up being when, one day, she’s caught writing in public by some coven scouts. Before she knows it, Katya is thrown into the Conformatorium, imprisoned for being a “wild witch” and writing “non-conformist propaganda.”
This wasn’t fair. It didn’t make sense to Katya in the slightest how she ended up here. She wasn’t a wild witch. She didn’t go around hurting innocent people, or terrorizing authority.
She... She didn’t do anything with her life, at all. Her own lack of a sigil proved that she wasn’t worth anything. She belonged here... The few weeks that Katya spends in the Conformatorium feel like an eternity. There’s nothing for her to do but reread her last crappy story, small talk with the other prisoners, and reflect on how she’s wasted her life, and now she’s going to waste away in this cell...
But that isn’t what happens. With the aid of a mysterious young human and the Boiling Isles’ most wanted criminal, the Conformatorium’s warden is defeated, and its few prisoners are left to go free. When Katya flees, she doesn’t dare to look back. She can’t, she ...oh dear Titan, she’s a fugitive now, isn’t she?
It’s hard over the next several weeks for Katya to lay low. Going back home is a horrible idea, there’s no way that her parents would ever forgive something like this... So, she finds herself crashing with her friend, Derwin, who is waaay cooler than she gives him credit for, given that he somehow agreed to house and cover for her fugitive ass.
It’s through Derwin that Katya actually winds up meeting Amber too, and then she tags along with both of them to a class taught by a bard by the name of Raine Whispers. Katya doesn’t necessarily intend on learning bard magic, but Derwin and Amber make it look like a lot of fun, and the more often that Katya sees Raine, she realizes they’re... different than most of the other adults she knows. Most of her teachers had always been quick to give up on her when they saw she wasn’t driven or understanding their lessons, and even her own parents had gotten to that point too, but Raine didn’t. They believe in her...
For the first time, Katya finds herself committing to something that she loves, and this time, she’s got people that she cares about backing her up. It was only inevitable that, when eventually given the opportunity to rebel, to stick it to the system that had given up on witches like her in the first place, Katya didn’t hesitate to become a Bard Against the Throne.

notes on the castle library, bards as historians, coven auditions, && the oldest magic on the boiling isles.
please know that the following are headcanons, specific to my portrayal of raine && how i imagine the bard coven working. i am in no way claiming any of this to be practical theories, although i have extrapolated the majority from canon, && if you see something that resonates with you, feel free to use it. DO NOT REBLOG THIS POST. this is an RP blog, and i don’t want it circulating && clogging my notifications.
Tumblr media
in human culture, music is one of the most ancient forms of storytelling to exist ;   it is often referred to as a universal language. music is everywhere, in every culture, && has been... forever basically. it stands to reason, therefore, that bard magic, which is the use of sound && music as a vessel for spell-casting, has also been around forever. we know that elemental magic is what ancient witches on the boiling isles first practiced, the oldest form of wild magic in existence. but music is just as old as the elements. bard magic IS wild magic, for all intents && purposes. instruments (including voice) are simply a way to channel the magic that exists all around you, in the same way palismen && glyphs do.
so what does that mean? it means that the earliest witches were all practicing bard magic, even if that’s not what it was called back then.
but let’s take a look at the actual definition of a bard: a poet, traditionally one reciting epics and associated with a particular oral tradition.
bards are storytellers. yes, they are rightfully associated with music, as ancient depictions of bards featured their recitations accompanied by a harp or a lyre or other similar instrument. but first && foremost, their role in society is to pass down stories — real, fictional, or mythological (something in between). bards in the demon realm embrace those traditions as part of their culture. being a bard is not just about playing an instrument and casting spells sonically— it’s about the music, it’s about the performance, it’s about entertaining an audience, it’s about telling a story, && it’s about sharing history.
to be accepted into the bard coven, you go through an audition process. the first round is spellcasting via playing an instrument (or singing), though it is not judged entirely on quality of music or accuracy, but rather the level of magic able to be generated. this is not a gatekeeping tactic, but rather a way to ensure that the witches who join are proficient enough to be able to cast a wide variety of spells once their other magic is sealed away. the second round is telling a story to the panel of moderators. the final round involves the recitation of a tale from ancient history, with musical accompaniment, && the recitation must result some sort of spell being cast. about 60% of candidates to make it to this stage perform pre-existing epics, 40% perform original pieces (raine performed a variation on their own piece, raine’s rhapsody). from the final applicant pool, less than 20% are accepted on average, though there is not a capped maximum.
upon entry into the coven, new bards continue their studies for 2-4 years depending on skill level && topics of interest — they may learn anything from music theory to new instruments to composition, but all with an emphasis on history. raine studied baroque music && instruments, including the harpsichord, timpani, viola, && lute. after the completion of their graduate studies, bards are expected to contribute to the traditions && culture through various means. they can choose to join an orchestra or smaller musical ensemble && perform concerts, they can pursue a solo career with recitals and/or recording for public release, or if they prefer not to pursue performance they can conduct, they can compose, or they can go into archiving && historical documentation. this is the path raine chose, && often goes hand-in-hand with or leads to a career in teaching.
because bards are storytellers, they are natural historians as well. therefore, it is safe to assume that at any library in the demon realm, a majority of the librarians are bards. the emperor’s castle contains the bardic library, which is the oldest collection of texts and magical history on the boiling isles. the library has existed since long before belos was in power, && when he established the coven system, the castle was actually constructed around it, so as to ensure containment of bardic practices within the nine magic tracks.
the library contains three levels of books, scrolls, recordings, sheet music, && ancient artifacts. the basement has soundproof practice && recording rooms, as well as a massive concert hall. there is a partial fourth floor, just below the bell tower, where the head witch of the coven resides. there is always music playing, or someone telling a story — this is not a library where silence is encouraged. because of how long bard magic && tradition has been around, much of the demon realm’s mythology (including that of the titans) deeply involves bards or witches whose usage of bard magic features heavily in their stories. the bard coven boasts a large pantheon of literary && mythological figureheads, many of whom are depicted in stained glass imagery that lines the first floor windows. bardic practices bear a strong resemblance to the early church ;   ancient bards resisted persecution && prejudice based on magic type or ability or possession, preferring to be truly united under the titan, as demonkind. one of the practices that has persisted into the modern day is the bardic library as sanctuary — a sacred && peaceful place where anyone could seek refuge without fear of extradition of punishment. despite the fact that the emperor’s coven has since absorbed the bardic library into the castle, it is still accepted that the library is a place of sanctuary for those in need. only the head of the coven (or theoretically the emperor himself, however it has never come to that) has the power to circumvent a call for sanctuary, though the repercussions would be extreme regardless of the direness of the situation.
the library is a place of peace, of spirituality, && of respect for tradition, as well as care. to continue pulling the religious allegory thread, if the bard coven were to be compared to any sect of christianity, it would be the jesuits. but you do not need to be a bard, nor use bardic magic or practices, to enter the library, use it’s resources, or simply go to read, to learn, to listen to a story, or simply catch your breath after a long day. for most members of the bard coven, the library is like a second home — it certainly is for raine.

So I know Dana confirmed there wouldn’t be any musical episodes (which I get, that’s a LOT of work, I still don’t know how the su crew managed to put it all together as well as they did) but I do hope we get to see Luz sitting with Skara in a bard track class and bonding over types of music they like and Luz teaching Skara about different kinds of music from the Human Realm. Like, I really wanna see Skara go absolutely bonkers over seeing a French horn or an accordion for the first time.

May I have some headcannons with golden guard who has a vampire S/O fluffy please
~ Your family has served Emperor Belos for generations and as such you've known Hunter since you were both very small. You both don't have many freedoms with your restricted roles but Emperor Belos and your parents agree being friends (possibly more in the future) is beneficial for both lineages and they allow you to be kids together.
~ As a vampire you are well versed in illusion magic, oracle magic, healing magic, and beast keeping magic. You can do other magic as well but genetically those four have always been apart of you and are where your most powerful spells come from.
~ You are not older than Belos being a very young vampire but your kind is much older than his rule and the magics in vampires are ancient and wild. Your family keeps many secrets buried in the past in exchange for saftey and being able to practice their traditions away from prying eyes. They work outside of Beloses laws and silence anyone who would challenge the Emperor.
~ You and Hunter at first don't want to be friends. After all your young rebellious kids who would rather make friends their own way than have their families interfer. But you both find you have many things in common. Reading about ancient wild magic, learning the origins of the isle, general history, weapons training, and things like that quickly spark a kinship between the two of you.
~ You love studying old texts and scrolls in secret with Hunter. You have books that are ancient, far older than Beloses rule and sharing them with someone feels special. Your family is meant to keep secrets but Hunter is someone you could never keep secrets from. Besides what doenst hurt Emperor Belos or your parents won't hurt the two of you.
~ You often had sleepovers as kids before you got serious. You and Hunter would make a pillow fort on his bed before you'd hide under the sheets with a lamp. You'd spend all night reading things very few ever got the chance too. You'd do your own studies about wild magic in secret and together you were determined to find a cure for Emperor Belos and find a way for Hunter to do magic. He may be a magicless witch but out of everyone on the Isles he deserved magic the most. On his tenth birthday after his party you both made a binding vow in your pillow fort to never stop looking for answers. Ever.
~ As you get older Hunter is focused on the Emperors coven while your focused on learning your Clans magic. You hardly have time for each other as your teen years go by and you almost never see each other unless it's at a family function or Emperors Coven celebration. Sleepovers start occuring less and your late night study sessions that were once every night are barley once a month. Alone time during the day almost becomes non existent and your both worried about drifting apart. It's stressful. Your both to be the next sucessors in your line and its a lot of responsibility for teenagers who have never really lived. Thankfully despite everything you still have each other and your magic promise. Through it all you remain close with letters, crow calls, gifts, and secret messages you leave to each other.
~ As time goes on you both realize you want more than a friendship and begin forming a relationship. At first it's kept a secret but as time goes on it seems everyone somehow knows despite you being discreet and their all fine with it. Your even allowed to go on dates outside of work and get the occasional break you both desperately need. Your parents and the Emperor have apprentally been expecting this for a long time and actually push you two to spend time with each other when their busy.
~ Hunter is very much a gentleman in everything about the relationship. He may have been raised by Belos who is less than cordial but Hunter has been taught respect and how to treat partners. He opens doors for you, pulls out your chair and pushes it in, pays for most outtings, gets gifts, and remembers important dates in the relationship. He really is a romantic at heart and when he's around you he becomes a different person. Very kind and considerate and always looking out for you. That sass is still there but around you its only to tease not to hurt or demean.
~ He loves getting you flowers. Flowers are his go too. Whenever he sees them around the castle they make him happy and whenever he gives them too you your face lights up which makes him more happy. He gets other gifts too like chocolates, pretty jewelry, books, antiques, and various trinkets but he loves flowers the most. He even teaches you to dry them so you can keep them forever. (You occasionally find pressed ones in your books along with little messages or poems from Hunter)
~ Dates are very important to Hunter. He's a bit of a perfectionist and wants you to have an amazing time. Dates can be simple and small but they must be meaningful. Hes taken you to fancy restaurants, danced with you under the stars, watched movies, done library/study dates, taken you to the carnival, snuck you away on missions, and bought you both concert tickets. Anything he can think of that's fun or will leave lasting memories is something he plans on trying and hes always full of surprises.
~ Hunter is very good at the guitar. He's always had an interest in music and if he wasn't in his uncle's coven he may have ended up as a bard. He enjoys humming and quietly singing to himself but he mostly expresses himself through his guitar. If you sing while he plays his heart would melt. He'd also be super interested in teaching you guitar if you were up for it. (If you want him to sing you to sleep over the crow/crystal ball he just might but he gets kind if embarassed about it. He'll strum you a song if it helps you doze off though)
~ Hunter loves taking long walks with you. He wouldn't call it a date but sometimes it almost feels like one. As a vampire you can walk in the Boiling rain without so much as a hiss in pain but sunlight makes you incredibly sensitive and uncomfortable without the right precautions. He carrys around a silk umbrella and as he walks next to you he makes sure you don't get burned. If you get caught in a sudden sunny day after lowcast clouds blow away and he doesn't have the umbrella on him, he'll take off his cape and drape it around you to keep you safe.
~ As you both get older its obvious Hunter does not have much magic that is his own. There is magic inside him but he can't access it. Almost as if somethings blocking him from his magic despite the fact its there. You are so happy when Belos gives him his staff. You've been his friend much longer than his partner, but now that you are his partner your both inseparable. His cermony and indoctrination into the Emperors Coven with his own staff is small and not a large celebration but you make sure he knows how proud of him you are. He has to clean his mask because you leave smudges all over it from giving him kisses.
~ Lots of excursions. You and Hunter obey Belos and your parents of course but sometimes you'll take extra time on a mission for yourselves or mess around with the time charts so you can go do something together.
~ He's not huge on PDA simply because he has to keep his professional attitude around others. But Hunters is a fan of touch when your alone. So be prepared for lots of cuddling, handholding, forehead kisses, cheek/nose kisses, normal kisses, stroking your face, touching your arm, anything goes. He really likes touch and isn't used to receiving it so he gets really happy when he just gets to just relax with you.
~ You both have red eyes. Its not even that funny but for some reason it cracks you up. The reddish Magneta hue of his eyes reminds you of a dhamphir so you call him your little halfling in private. He has a million nicknames for you and you have to admit their all more clever than anything you could ever do. Which is why you love them.
~ Vampires don't need as much sleep as witches and since Hunter has bad insomnia you often spend long nights with each other cuddled close as you talk about a little of everything. Often wild magic is where the discussion goes but history, philosophy, psychology, and demon mythology are also popular topics. Making jokes and telling stories as you try and settle for the night always happen as well.
~ He's happier around you and your happier around him. Your friendship may have started from your parents pushing it but it was your love for each other that made the relationship thrive. Together your going to change the Boiling Isles.

The Owl House, Season 2, Episode 11, "Follies at the Coven Day Parade," First Impressions!
Tumblr media
It has been…seven. Long. Months.
Seven long months of waiting, of agonizing, of theorizing, of memeing, of shipping, of flaming, of raging at Disney, of often forgetting that Morinmark’s comics aren’t canon, of generally losing our minds waiting for The Owl House to return.
And now it has, and it hit the ground running.
So. The first episode of the second half of season two has finally dropped. We are getting brand new material.
Let’s do this.
Okay, a quick rundown, then I’ll start breaking things down. To begin, Luz is stressing over her promise to her mother to come home (and is it just me, or were the words her mother used in her memory of that scene from Yesterday’s Lie different than the actual lines? If so, that really indicates how much that moment has gotten Luz twisted up), and she’s trying to work up a defense for her to stay in the Boiling Isles. Meanwhile, Eda has learned that Raine is once again active as the head of the Bard’s Coven and will in fact be a part of the Coven’s Day Parade, which just smells wrong to her. And meanwhile, poor lil’ Kikimora is torn between visiting her family or taking part in the parade, as doing one will lead to being banished by the other.
Naturally, Luz feels that there is a solution to all of their problems.
Naturally, things do not go as planned.
All right. Let us begin.
LUZ
As I said, Luz’s visit to Camilla didn’t turn out how she wanted, and now with the promise of staying home looming in her mind, she’s starting to unravel.
Because Luz doesn’t want to go home. She’s happy in the Boiling Isles. She finally gets to learn magic, to better herself in a way that’s interesting to her, to have real friends that respect her, and to have an awesome girlfriend who is also an awesome witch. She’s basically the rare Isekai protagonist that knows that she’s an Isekai protagonist, and she is loving it!
Basically, her mom is really the only thing tying her to the human world. And, okay, I know I’ve been harsh on Camila because of the whole G-Rated conversion therapy vibes that the camp gave off. I’ve had time to think on that and cooled off enough on that front to realize that Camilla really is a loving parent doing her best and that Luz really did have major behavioral problems that needed addressing and the camp was probably actually benign after all and that misconception was basically just a poorly thought out joke that led to some very unfortunate coding. So, we’re good on that front.
But anyway, she does love her mom, and feels awful about hurting her. But she also doesn’t want to leave, and as such is building up her case to convince her mom that the Boiling Isles really is the place for her.
Unfortunately, the Boiling Isles are still the Boiling Isles, and, well…
Tumblr media
Seven months of no Owl House and this is pretty much the first image to greet us back.
God, I love this show. Bless you, Hooty, you absolutely horrifying abomination.
What I find interesting is just how quickly she latched onto Kikimora’s plight, despite all the very terrible things that Kiki has done to her and her friends (which Eda was more than happy to provide a list of), Luz still wanted to help her, in part because Luz is the most cinnamony of all cinnamon rolls, but also because she empathizes with Kiki being stuck between her family’s expectations and her dream job, as awful as that job might be.
And okay, I know that it’s an unpopular opinion, but I’m just going to say it. I like Kikimora. I know she’s a terrible person, but she’s also really funny, really hammy, and sort of pathetic, so I can’t help but enjoy her. Plus, I’ve always had a soft spot for villains that really, really wanted something. I mean, come on: who didn’t sort of want Starscream to take over the Deceptions?
But while being caught between two worlds certainly has gotten her all wound up, it’s also causing another problem.
Namely, lying to Amity.
AMITY
Oh, our cotton-candy haired goddess, how you have been missed.
I love Amity. I’ve made no secret of it. She’s my favorite character. I knew she would be going in, and I was right on the money.
And what I really love about her, what this episode made a point of emphasizing, is that while she is still a hot mess of issues thanks to her terrible parents, her rejection issues, and her chronic need for validation, she is aware of her flaws, realizes fully that she was kind of pretty bad person for a while, and is actively working to be a better person! Obviously her dependency on Luz is a big part of that, hence why is does have a tendency to go above and beyond to be Luz’s Awesome Girlfriend, but even so. Trying to learn Spanish to come up with cute nicknames for her girlfriend? Oh yeah, A+ material. Tomato X Sweet Potato, OTP.
But this definitely comes into play when she figures out that Luz hasn’t told her the truth about the portal, especially when she winds up with Luz’s phone. Now, I was bracing myself for the Liar’s Reveal plotline, truly one of my most despised drama mines. I expected her to watch the video, realize the truth, and get mad at Luz and yell at her a lot.
But Amity doesn’t do that. Instead, she first goes to Willow for advice (more on that later), decides to respect Luz’s privacy and NOT play the video, and instead go to Luz and ask her about it directly!
Because Amity has grown up in a household that constantly violated her privacy, so she knows how important it is. Hell, LUZ violated her privacy, and we all saw how much Amity was hurt by that. As such, she is actively working to not repeat the toxic patterns of her family and respect Luz’s in turn.
And secondly, instead of getting mad over Luz lying to her, she instead intuits correctly that Luz herself was hurt by something and is scared and instead calmly just approaches her to talk it out. That’s wonderful! Like, this is what I wanted from these two, for them to have an actual relationship with open communication! It’s clear that these two dorks really don’t know what they’re doing. It’s both of their first times being in love, it’s scary to them both, but man, they are trying their hardest to make it work, and they’re succeeding!
Now, we don’t get to see Amity’s reaction to Luz telling her about her mom’s ultimatum, but I imagine it will be addressed in episodes to come.
I really want to see Amity meet Camila. Please let me have this.
EDA and RAINE
So far, Eda has been a true maverick, a rebel just doing her thing, rolling with the punches and trucking along. Horribly cursed? Eh, manageable. Lose her magic? There’s workarounds. Emperor’s Coven trying constantly to arrest her? Sounds like fun!
However, she does have one weakness, one that really gets to her.
She cares about people. A lot.
For all of her bluster, Eda can’t allow any of her found family to come to harm. We’ve seen her put herself in danger for their sake time and time again, and if anyone that she cares about was in trouble, Eda would stop at nothing to go after them.
And she really cares about Raine.
Poor Raine. To go from leading a rebellion against Belos to being brainwashed by what I can only describe as GILF Perfuma into licking Belos’s boots. They truly have had it rough, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any easier.
I don’t have a whole lot to analyze as this plotline is only getting started, but it’s still clear that despite having their entire previous encounter wiped from their memory, Raine still cares a great deal about Eda, even if Terra has twisted that care up into hostility. I mean, even though they’ve been manipulated into seeing Eda as an enemy, they still kept trying to give her an out! And did you see that tear?
It's clear that rescuing Raine means more to Eda than her curse or regaining her magic. I imagine that she’ll get through to them eventually, but it’s going to be a fight, especially with Terra in the way. Maybe Willow can help on that end, given her proficiency with plants.
And speaking of which…
WILLOW
Aw, yes girl! Get you those gains!
Sorry, I’ve become something of a gym nut lately, so I’m all for Willow pumpin’ dat iron.
Anyway, Willow and Gus have kinda been pushed to the sidelines this season, which honestly does make sense, as they’re basically just “the friends.” Even Gus’s solo episode got overshadowed by its own B-Plot. However, this episode did touch on something I’ve been wondering about for a while.
It’s clear that Willow has forgiven Amity and the two are on good terms again, but did you see that look on Willow’s face when Amity was braiding her hair? It’s clear that the years of bullying still sting, and there is still a gulf there. I have a feeling that this will be addressed in the future, which I am definitely here for.
Look, I love Amity to death, and it’s not her fault her parents are so rotten, but the way she treated Willow was just cruel. And even though she’s taken responsibility for that behavior, honestly apologized, and is making a real effort to be better, sometimes that isn’t enough. And I’m sure that having her former bully who stabbed her in the back when they were kids now be dating one of her closest friends kind of upsets Willow. Like, she’s also making an effort, but that pain doesn’t go away so easily.
It's clear that they all have a long journey ahead of them, though with the Day of Unity looming, they might not have much time to come to terms with things. However, I am most certainly here for the ride. This is gonna be great.

a bunch of random writing dumb for the dream smp owl house au! hehe (might get changed later) ;p
I'm the master of englhsih FUKC A lot of these characters are their own characters with tiny bits drawn from the canon owl house story along with being slightly inspired by the dream smp story as whole. SMALL WARNING FOR MENTIONS OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND GENERAL ABUSE.
Philza isn't *as* wanted as Eda is, but he's still on thin ice for not being in a coven. He's the most powerful witch on the boiling isles, next to Technoblade who is very much wanted by emperor belos and just the whole isle for not being a part of a coven and also just being a general enabler of chaos and anarchy.
Phil has a curse like Eda where he turns into the crow beast, but instead is able to accept it as part of him for the sake of avoiding writing that whole angsty plot point. im only puttin a keep reading thing here bc i have a hunch im gonna make this long. or not :p
Tommy really looks up to Wilbur, Techno and Philza, he chose the bard track because of Wilbur and Philza inspired him to take up magic once he entered the boiling isles, at first he was more interested in going home. The reason Tommy ended up in the boiling isles is unclear, he’s a curious rat bastard.
Tubbo can see. He really likes headbutting people as a gesture of affection, his track is the plant track but he’s far more interested in engineering and mechanical weaponry, he has a very large fascination for human machinery and the lack of magic it uses even if he has little info on it.
Ranboo isn’t sure what his second half is and intends to keep it a secret. He has kind of enderwalk state similar breakdowns and its difficult to have him calm down faster than he does naturally. Ranboo really likes human fashion although his idea of it seems to me much more divorced dad than anything humans would consider normal. Because of his non-witch half he struggles with memory and carries around a ‘diary’ of sorts he calls his memory book (this will go well for sure, we all know how dsmp Ranboo copes).
Not much is known about Technoblade, he’s very stoic and extremely powerful. He’s the most knowledgeable on ‘wild magic’ and hesitantly agrees to teach Tommy what he knows. However, Tommy is quick to experiment and discover how to combine glyphs. Technoblade was initially invited to be apart of the Emperors coven but declined with no hesitation.
Wilbur is the son of Philza and a very powerful witch due to Philza’s influence, Schlatt is the leader of the emperors coven (still very much a drunk and an asshole) and takes keen interest in Wilbur's skills even though Wilbur fucking hates him.
Schlatt while one of the most powerful witches is hindered by his substance abuse and abuse to any person considered under him. So realistically he’s not that powerful aside from his position as extremely close to Belo’s. He very early on dies from heart related issues and is replaced by Dream once dreams enters his early corruption arc (this takes a while, there are a few temporary replacements).
Dream doesn’t intend to help Belos, rather overthrow him and ends up succeeding with the help of the gang (bench trio + more) whom he deceives. Once Dream rises to power as the youngest emperor the Boiling Isles soon fall to chaos and destruction. Continuing from that story involves the early corruption of Wilbur where he works along side Dream but finds himself losing it to his own magic and his mind is eventually lost, where “Ghostbur” (not really a ghost more just a shell of what he was as a person) comes into play.  Tommy is very early on convinced he can save the boiling isles from Dream but quickly falls victim to his manipulation and becomes a kind of twisted pet to Dream until he’s rescued by Philza, Ranboo and Tubbo. However, he comes out far more dull than he was initially, displaying signs of an alarmingly bad mental heath. Ranboo’s ‘other half’ is exposed as an ancient demon, an extremely powerful one at that. He struggles to handle it and decides to keep it contained in his mask, everyone is now aware of this other half, including Dream. Dream appears to Ranboo one day and offers him a deal: he can learn to control his demon half if he agrees to aid Dream in his conquering and destruction of the boiling isles. Ranboo denies and Dream simply leaves, however with a new connection and control over Ranboo. this is all im bothered to write for this right now <33 this might not make sense but uhhh brain rot

sorting the owl house characters into hogwarts houses, because im cringe
luz - ravenclaw
she’s creative and clever and is always searching to learn new things and loves learning just for the sake of learning. shes incredibly witty and quick thinking and open-minded. she’s constantly finding clever, creative, and original ways to solve her problems. she hardly blinked when given the opportunity to learn magic, and only continued to show an intense amount of intelligence and appreciation for academics. shes very resourceful as a human learning magic, finding a entirely new form of magic when it was apparent that she couldnt do it the traditional way. she’s very aspiring, wanting to be a witch and an author since she was very young. she’s very logical about a lot of things, like how it doesnt make sense to not allow witches to study multiple tracks or that people were imprisoned just for being themselves. she’s highly encouraging of individuality which is a lesser known trait of ravenclaw but very important. she can be a perfectionist at times and tended to avoid social interaction so she could persue her creativity. she’s outspoken, an overthinker, and very competitive. i think a lot of people might say she’s a hufflepuff, as she’s loyal and kind and hardworking, but luz values learning and creativity above any of those other things— this is evident, when she makes the decision to stay in the boiling isles to learn magic rather than go home to her mom, thus putting knowledge and creativity over her own family.
eda - gryffindor
she’s not afraid to stand up for herself and others and will never back down from a challenge. she would rather die as herself than live unauthentically. she’s very passionate and empathetic. she’s rebellious against rules that dont make sense to her and cares intensely for her friends and family. she has a strong internal moral code that she sticks to intensely, never straying from it. in the very first episode, she breaks into the conformatorium just to get a paper crown thats important to king. she let raine break up with her because she didnt want to burden them with her curse. she forfeited the match with lily because she knew her sister wanted to be in the emperor’s coven more than she ever did. she’s sacrifices herself for luz & king over and over again because she cares so deeply for her.
king - slytherin
he’s self-centered, smart, arrogant, and highly ambitious. he would do anything to achieve his goals— which was at first reclaiming his throne as the king of demons, and then turned into finding out where he came from. he tried to use luz as a means to reach his goals when he became an author, nearly sacrificing their friendship. he became incredibly loyal to luz after that in the same way he’s loyal to eda, the one who raised him.
(other characters under the cut)
lily - slytherin
it was between this and ravenclaw, because she’s incredibly intelligent and does seem to enjoy learning and has a great mind, she’s also incredibly ambitious and prideful. the deciding factor was that she cursed eda just to reach her own goals. she’s still loyal to eda even when working for belos, which says a lot to how she’s loyal to only a select few people. to her, the ends justify the means (making amity cheat to appear like the better teacher, cursing eda to win the duel, kidnapping luz to get belos to cure eda, losing her magic to help eda)
amity - gryffindor
this one was hard, i swapped between slytherin and gryffindor a lot for her. she’s ambitious and intelligent, but also not afraid to do whats right even if means breaking the rules. she’s self-sacrificing and empathetic and prideful. she ended her friendship with boscha to help luz and willow win. she didnt like luz at first because luz kept cheating and messing up her life, which means she has a strong moral code against cheating and bullies. she’s rebellious in small ways at first but once she started realizing how terrible her parents and belos really were, she pulled away extremely quickly.
willow - slytherin
not surprising, if you take into her account of self-preservation and bending of the rules to suit her ambitions. in the first episode she agrees to cheating just to get ahead in school because she wants to make her parents proud, and in the end she switches to the plants track so to her the ends justify the means. she pulled out of the grudgby game when luz pushed her & gus too far, a perfect example of that self preservation. she has a sense of loyalty that extends to very specific people but she always makes sure those people are taken care of. her parents, luz, gus, and eventually king, eda, and amity, too. she wouldn’t die for them, but she would kill for them.
gus - hufflepuff
sure, he has the ravenclaw curiousity and thirst for knowledge, but he’s very kind, hard working, has a strong inner sense of justice and fairness, and is tolerant of others. he helps mattholomule even if he’d been a jerk before because it was unfair if he didnt. he helps luz break into belos’s castle to find a cure for eda, lets luz borrow his library card to see amity, and hated it when mattholomule tried to lie about the human objects. he knows what it feels like to be left behind and underestimated, so he makes an effort to be kind to others who seem to be in the same boat. he’s very young but already so accomplished which is a testament to how hard he works.
hunter - hufflepuff
this one was HARD. it was either slytherin or this, and a deciding factor for this is the fact that he is self-sacrificing. he sacrifices a lot for other people, even if it doesnt seem like it. in the palisman episode, he sacrifices the palismen getting away despite knowing he would be punished for returning empty-handed. in eclipse lake, he leaves to find the titans blood for belos when he simply could have stayed in the castle and been safe. he’s viciously hard-working, dedicated, and loyal to his family. he lets people’s actions speak for them. he doesn’t immediately judge luz for using wild magic and actually seems interested in it before remembering to be loyal to belos. he’s patient, too, as seen by his interactions with luz. he gets frustrated, sure, but he still works with her. he’s modest about his rank and title, preferring to not flaunt it more than needed. but he does take pride in it. he’s kind in his own way, specifically to belos and lil rascal, but you can see it in his interactions with amity & luz, too. with amity, he empathizes with her and gives her advice that he thinks is true, and offers to dig a grave for her too when its apparent that neither of them are getting any titans blood. with luz, he gives up the palismen and protects her from kikimora. that boy is a hufflepuff for sure.
raine - gryffindor
oh buddy theyre the biggest gryffindor ever. they extremely, extremely brave. they have terrible stage fright and anxiety but they still became head bard, and they still ran an underground resistance group, and they still gave everything up just to help eda. they have a strong sense of whats right and whats wrong and incredible amount of passion, empathy, and integrity. they have a great sense of pride— “How did someone with stage fright end up as Head Witch?” “I’m just that good.”— and are very selfless. they stopped eda from sacrificing herself because they knew her kids needed her more, they sacrificed themselves in eda’s place and gave up everything they had just so eda wouldnt have to.
camila - hufflepuff
she’s extraordinarily kind, even when she’s terrified. she’s accepting and open-minded and hardworking, making sure to show luz that she loves her creativity but still wants to make sure luz can do well in school and can make friends. sometimes you can do something you think is kind but isnt really. she’s also a single mother doing her best to give her daughter a good life, which is a credit to how hard she works and how dedicated she is to her daughter. she even took the day off of work to drive luz to camp because she knew luz was anxious and wanted to reassure her. she’s patient with luz, and even when faced with the scariest moment of her life, she’s still thinking of how luz feels rather than her own fears and anger. she’s very much a hufflepuff in the way that she’s quiet and unassuming but fiercely protective of her family.
vee - slytherin
she’s opportunistic and has a sense of self-preservation. she’d rather save her own skin than do that right thing. she’s cunning, having pretended to be camila’s daughter just to have a place for herself. this isnt a bad thing at all, though. she’s also loyal to camila, who she sees as her family, and even got into a fight with luz over how she treated camila. she still listened to luz and let luz help her so that vee could remain living as luz. she doesnt feel guilty about valuing herself ahead of luz.
belos - ravenclaw
honestly? not a hard decision. he’s smart, sure, but he’s not people-smart. he didnt think lilith would betray him after he admitted to lying about healing eda. he doesnt understand loyalty, not even to those close to him. he’s rational and logical rather than emotional. if the theory that he is philip wittebane is to be believed, then its obvious he has an appreciation for learning and knowledge. belos distinctly reminds me of lockhart, or even quirrell, who were also in ravenclaw. he’s got an arrogance to him that blinds him, believing himself to be the smartest and strongest witch on the isles and thus underestimating others, which will only lead him to ruin.

Of Wings and Blood - A Owl House Swap AU
This swap au mainly switches the places of Luz Noceda and Amity Blight. Instead of Luz Noceda finding her way to the Boiling Isles from the Human Realm, Amity Blight is the human who finds herself in the Boiling Isles after running away from home.
Below the cut is a mix of me putting out the formal information and also just rambling, sorry about that!
Amity Blight finds herself in the home of Edalyn Clawthorne-Whispers and Raine Clawthorne-Whispers and their adopted demon son, King. Eda finds Amity as an opportunity to get something back for King, and while Raine is on edge about it, the two of them talk it over and propose the idea to Amity. Amity, used to going along with adult wishes, agrees, but finds how they talked about the idea odd.
After everything there happens (details to be hashed out later), Raine offers to send Amity back home, but Amity doesn’t want to go home. Eda then offers their home to Amity, since she has nowhere else to go, and Amity accepts. This starts the human’s journey on getting supportive adult figures and supportive friends compared to the people she has back home.
Raine is known as the Bat Bard, and if you know anything about why Eda is called the Owl Lady, you might know why they’re called the Bat Bard. They aren’t in the Bard Coven, but they still mainly rely on Bard spells while Eda’s more free-spirited with her magic.
Her first friend is Willow Park, and i still need to work out the details but Amity goes back to Eda and Raine and talks about Willow being in the wrong track, and Eda has to be held back from raising hell. Somehow, that day ends with Willow in the right track for her and the two of them promising to hang out more. I mean, Amity can’t do magic because she’s human, but they’ll figure something out!
Gus is still president of the H.A.S, of course, but one of his members is... Luz Noceda! She recently got detention, and, in fact, is first introduced to Amity via breaking out of it. It’s very impressive. Why’d she get detention? Well, she miiight be a multitrack student...
Luz Noceda is the daughter of Camila Noceda, with a dad who disappeared some time ago. She wears a witches wool cape all the time in a move seen as eccentric by the other students but as cool by Amity, and she’s generally a lot more outgoing and accepting than most are. Her mother runs a beast sanctuary as a beastkeeper, which is what Luz was actually first assigned at Hexside. But our dear Luz can’t just keep away from learning magic- she wanted to learn potions, and healing, and bard (inspired by Raine)-
So she’s a part of the multitrack crew! They’re like Canon Amity’s former friends that make up some of the background crowd sometimes- they appear and they talk and they’re cool and you can point them out in scenes and go ‘THERE THEY ARE’
She’s also friends with a more quiet potions student known by her nickname of Vee. She has dark skin with light skin patches and long brown hair and tends to avoid making eye contact. yes. this is our basilisk friend Vee in disguise as a Hexside student. She has a plotline regarding the other basilisk coming around and her deciding to erase her own memories that gets discovered by Amity and Luz and therefore has them discover about basilisks and what the hell Belos did around the time of Understanding Willow. (It’d be called something like Understanding Vee in this AU, probably.) And yes she gets adopted by Camila in this AU basically after that happens
Amity figures out she can do magic by basically accident- Raine does a fire spell, and Amity takes a picture of the spell circle getting completed. When she goes back to the picture later, she notices a pattern there that wasn’t there before, and she traces over it with paper. Then she holds her thumb on the pattern as she adjusts the paper, and accidentally does her first spell. This freaks her out slightly. and by slightly i mean she screams
Amity still kind of panics over her feelings- she’s still a lesbian with her first crush here- so that’s kind of the same as canon. Luz, on the other hand? As a witch with not as much to focus on, it’s more like it takes her a bit to realize the feelings she’s having and then once she realizes she’s fuckin done for. they might mutually pine for longer than in canon. Not sure how they get together yet in the AU.
Let’s see, what else to talk about- oh, yes! In the AU, Raine is the Bat Bard, yeah? They have a Bat Beast form that was caused via... uh... breaking family relationship things from eda’s side of things. just like in canon, Lilith didn’t think she was going to be casting a permanent curse. in the AU, though, Eda and Lilith were starting to fight more often, and Lilith thought that Eda could mess around and not have permanent consequences so she could too
... yeah that didn’t quite turn out, and Lilith turned to the Emperor’s Coven for comfort, which is a bad idea in the long run for her because THE EMPEROR’S COVEN IS LIKE A CULT.
yeah, the reason it’s ‘of wings and blood’ is because Raine has wings, not feathers, and there’s... ah. blood family issues. they’ll probably fixed in the future somehow.
In this AU, the arc of the human is getting a support system and supportive family and learning how to rely on that. Blood could also be indicative of that, haha.
There’s other information, but I don’t wish to ramble on for longer- feel free to ask me about details of the AU! i adore it so

mcyt/toh crossover AU
[last post/rb] but wow i love crossovers very much so i just realized. bard!wilbur on the boiling isles. HE WOULD. WHAT OTHER COVEN WOULD HE CHOOSE. ESPECIALLY AFTER THE LATEST EPISODE LIKE LOOK AT THE BARD MAGIC AND THE BATTS REBELLION. IT’S SOOOOOO HIM /POS
also oracle!ranboo although potions & healing could fit him as well if he wants to study all 3 - ranboo’s extremely dedicated to learning so him going multi-track wouldn’t surprise me At All, not to mention how he was canonically messing with potions and shit in his dsmp lore too
although he started off studying potions at first like luz (i've noticed that the fandom's kinda adopted that one as the "default" for some reason?) but then switched because he didn't like it and it just didn't fit, tommy is 100% in the construction coven bc 1) hard work & earth elements 2) that little guy who got the power glyph in 01x05 and was like WOOO YEA 3) the Big Man Hotel 4) he’d probably be fascinated by bria, matt, and the other glandus kids taking down the slitherbeast in 02x05 & 5) he’s high full of energy and his dsmp character is full of anger, that would be SUCH a great way to take it out. also, i think he would enjoy the studying in the bard coven as a secondary track just for the hell of it (i know- i gotta keep up the "I HATE LEARNING, SCHOOL IS BULLSHIT" bit but i think i'll do that by having him act like he hates it- poorly, might i add, and convinces no one that he's unhappy), not only because one of his older brothers has a knack for it as his primary/only focus, but also because the actual cc!tommy is REALLY good at singing and i swear he used to play an instrument or two?? could be wrong... anyways yeah tommy using his voice to manipulate magic around him would be fucking sick. I’m Right. You Know I Am.
techno is in the beastkeeping coven bc Yes. like idk how to put it into words but the strong piglin hybrid who follows his own morals taming, training, taking care of, and finding help and use in wild animal breeds/hybrids.......... he was Made for that in this AU, surely?!
and of course if we have to mention techno, we have to mention phil! well, phil’s quite a bit older than all the rest so i’d assign him the role of a beastkeeping teacher. initially i wanted him to be in the same class as techno but the age difference just doesn’t fit and i want the immortal winged God of Death with a reputation™ to have a way to show off all of his experience and knowledge. oh- and of course techno is his favorite student. if a teacher and his student can form a close platonic and healthy bond, this is exactly that. and phil of course has his secret flaws, so even though techno excels anyway, he tends to get extra credit that he doesn’t deserve ;) do not make that weird ok.
OOOOOOOO TUBBO WOULD BE IN THE PLANTS COVEN. HE WOULD MAKE THOSE MFS SQUEEZE AND STRANGLE OPPONENTS IN PLACE WITH THEIR VINES’ HEAVY STRENGTH. LAUNCH HIS NUKES WITH EXTRA VENOM. HE’D BE SO GOOD AT MAKING USE OUT OF THEM (think of willow when her eyes glow in 01x03 and the s2 intro/theme). AND DO NOT TELL ME HE WOULDN’T STUDY POTIONS AS WELL. THERE ARE SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES (good and bad lol) WITH POTIONS AND HE’D LOVE TO EXPERIMENT WITH THEM. (ALSO THAT’D BE THE CLASS HE SHARES WITH RANBOO SO. <333) i’m also gonna have him join the abominations coven, mostly because i don’t have anyone there yet but also because they would be really helpful in terms of helping him build with all the projects and stuff he distracts himself with. and, as we saw canonically in the blight manor, they make great servants for people who live in mansions - which tubbo and ranboo both do, of course. i replaced my initial beastkeeping idea with abominations because tubbo just doesn’t really have the nature to be up for it and excel after all, i’ve decided, and i end up adding enough people to the former track later on anyway
i might add more later (update: i very much did lmfao) but i just wanted to quickly jot down my main 6 fave ccs :]
also i’d like to think that they all attend glandus instead of hexside. it just feels right, and especially if dream and some others went there too, y’know, we learned in 02x05 that the stronger, higher-class, better-performing students don’t treat the opposites too well and there’s a lot of power dynamics over there. that’d set up dream being a nasty bully to tommy really well, especially since tommy probably wouldn’t think he’s too great at school and he wouldn’t care much about it anyway, and something similar with dream and ranboo but for different reasons. and without either of them knowing that they have this abuse from the same person in common, the bench trio would have the same dynamics for the same reasons - tommy and tubbo are best friends (and tubbo is also bullied for things like being short/weak, incapable, and a follower who has strong magical potential but can’t control it well yet), and tubbo and ranboo start dating (platonically?? or not?? idk??), and tommy feels that he’s alone in all this again. it’d also set up a competitive rivalry between dream and techno for top most favored student while also somehow creating an alliance with wilbur at the same time to “take down the system.”
i’ll keep developing this as i go, definitely...
