it’s good to finally see miguel letting loose for once. her poor baby had been dwelling on work and stress that her heart couldn’t take it anymore. she could see it’s starting to get to him, but miguel being miguel, he always puts on the unbothered facade. unluckily for him, she could see right through her husband

so she proposed that him and the rest of the team to have a night out, miles and gwen are excluded.

miguel despises clubs, they’re pointless and reckless. music’s good. not worth the crowd though.

but since peter, jess, and her teamed up against him, he had no saying in that.

“you need to lay off my man a little, jess. poor baby has been working too hard” she points out, sipping on her lychee martini,

jess cocks an eyebrow. “i tried to! he’s the one who didn’t want to”

“you know how he is, y/n” peter chimes, “he won’t listen to any of us except you”

“yeah” she smiles, staring down at her ring finger. “sounds like him”

“where is he by the way? i need to get home soon. MJ would kick my ass if i’m even 5 minutes late” peter sighs, pulling out his wallet to put some bills,

she stops him with a hand gesture. “don’t. it’s on me.”

“girl, you sure?” jess asks,

“i make as much money as my husband. of course, i’m sure” she laughs, finishing her drink. “you two get home. me and miggy are going home too anyway”

jess fakes a gag. “i still have to get used to you calling him that. gross”

she laughs again, three of them standing up from the table before giving each other a hug, thanking them for coming.

soon as they left, she gathers her things before walking towards the bar where her husband is at. she smiles upon seeing his large back facing her, hunching slightly as he finished up the last drink of his.

it’s so easy to spot him,

“alright big boy, it’s close to one. let’s call it a night, yeah?” she appears by his side, hand on his shoulder,

to her surprise, he shrugs it off making her frown. avoiding her gaze before scooting away,

“miguel wha—“

“back off, i’ve got a wife. and i would appreciate it if you leave”

her heart soars,

the frown turns into a pleased expression, she crosses her arms with a playful smile. “oh really? she pretty?”

“gorgeous” he corrects her. “and the best damn thing i’ve ever had so please” his hand shoo her away. “i’m a man. i don’t cheat”

the heat blossoms in her chest when he does so. a frown forms on his handsome face, showing her that he isn’t playing around,

oh he’s drunk, drunk

“okay well, i happen to know your wife, actually. and i am very sorry but i mean no disrespect, I didn’t know you’re married” she plays along, watching him him but a stoic expression remains on his face,

“want me to get her?”

his face lights up at that, turning around to face her before nodding with a smile,

“yes please! that would be great. i miss her”

she awes at that, who knew her husband could be such a huge softie?

“okay, be right back” she responds before walking away only to reappear back to his left side, fronting a wide grin,

“baby! how you doing?!”

miguel eyes light up once more, mirroring his wife’s smile before his hands reach out to her, arms wide open to invite her to a hug,

“my love! mi corazón ! beautiful beautiful querida! i am so happy you are here!” he sighs dreamily,

she giggles at his cute demeanor, accepting his embrace as he pulls her in, arms wrapped around her waist.

“there was this girl who wanted to take me home and I completely told her off because i said, ‘my wife! is here with me and i would appreciate it if you fuck off!’ “

she holds back a laugh at how silly and sassy he is putting on his scowl expression,

“really? well good riddance! she should’ve known better!” she pulls away and cradle his cheeks in between her hands, feeling him lean against her palm,

he nods, circling his hands around her wrists. “mi corazón te pertenece, ahora y para siempre. got you this far, didn’t i?”

if her heart could burst, it would in that moment. even in his drunken state, he still manages to front a lovesick gaze everytime he looks at her. to speak like a true poet and aim for her heart just like that,

she nods back, pressing a soft kiss on his lips. “yes, baby. yes you did”

Prologue: All you have is your fire

Summary: Zuko’s bad day gets a bit better after an encounter with an unfamiliar face. 

Pairing: zuko x fem! reader (Live Action or Animated) 

A/N: I am delusional, and when I had the idea for a zuko x reader modern AU where he works in Iroh’s boba tea shop, I had to follow through with said idea. Let’s see if this goes anywhere, and feel free to leave comments or suggestions on how the fic could play out maybe :)

Disclaimer: I do not own the rights to Avatar: The Last Airbender, I am merely a nerd who hyperfixates a lot.  This is a modern AU that takes place in the avatar world. Bending still exists. Zuko and the gaang are in college in this series !!

TW!: Physical abuse, burns, Ozai in general, Zuko’s backstory is so sad. 

Zuko knew it was going to be a long day as soon as he opened the shop at 12pm. 

Within the first two hours, he had run out of tapioca pearls, dropped a container filled with matcha on the floor (which by the way, was a pain in the ass to clean up,) and slipped on the floors he had just mopped. Perhaps he was just born unlucky. Perhaps, most people in life didn’t have to struggle the way that he was, the way that he always had. It wasn’t all bad. He was lucky enough to be here, working in his uncle’s tea shop in the Earth Kingdom, rather than in his father’s company back in the Fire Nation. 

The Jasmine Dragon was beloved by many. People from all over the city came to have some of the shops' amazing teas and pastries. It wasn’t too busy, having only three people come in today.  perhaps because school at the University of Ba Sing Se hadn’t quite started up yet, outside of the students who had moved in early. The shop was particularly chilly today, but the atmosphere managed to maintain the same warm and cozy feeling, with the dim atmospheric lighting and the sage and emerald hued furniture. Zuko had a second to just relax in the stillness. 

 He appreciated these quiet moments the most.  The moments where he could stop worrying about the shop, and overthinking the worst things he had ever done in his life. Such as when he lashed out at his uncle, multiple times, or about the people he had bullied in high school. He was almost able to forget it all. Forget the fact that his younger sister, Azula, was still stuck in a house with his abusive father, or even forget the feeling of his father’s hand, burning the flesh of his face, leaving a scar in its wake, as well as a near complete blindness in his left eye. His demons may be restless, but boy did Zuko keep them on a tight leash. 

Zuko’s reverie was broken by the sound of the door’s bell chime. He immediately snapped out of his thoughts, waiting patiently for his assistance to be needed. 

“Um, excuse me,” 

A girl, who seemed to be around his age, was standing right in front of him. She wore a navy blue dress with a pale blue lining and detailing around the edges. A belt of the same color was around her waist, with a brown leather cord connecting a bag onto her hip. Her black jacket was cropped to about rib length, with brown leather cords fastening it closed, as well as matching black pants and brown boots. 

“This is my first time here…Is there anything that you’d recommend?” She asked politely. 

There was something about the way her kind eyes twinkled in the orange lighting that made Zuko fluster. He cleared his throat before opening his mouth to talk. 

“Well, Lychee juice is a customer favorite. But personally, my Uncle Iroh’s jasmine green tea is the best in Ba Sing Se.” 

“The best in Ba sing Se?” She raised her eyebrows inquisitively.

“The best.” he nodded. 

“I’ll take it.” She said, reaching to the tote bag slung over her shoulder. Zuko interrupted her actions with the wave of his hand. 

Zuko shook his head. “Don’t worry, It’s on me.” he said, as he began punching numbers, into the register. 

“Oh no! I can’t let you do that-” She protested. 

He shrugged, a blush beginning to warm his cheeks.  “For a first time customer.” 

“Thank you so much…” She trailed off, waiting for him to tell her his name.

“Zuko.”

“Zuko. I’ll be sure to come by again. And I fully intend on paying that time.” She said with a playful glare. 

The boy smiled slightly.

“Your tea will be ready shortly.” 

Zuko had Iroh bring the tea over to the girl. He wasn’t confident in his ability to steadily bring the tray of hot tea without causing more burns to cover his body. The older man made sure to give the girl a complimentary fruit tart to enjoy, but not before looking at his nephew with a teasing glint in his eyes. Zuko groaned. 

“Not a word, uncle.” He said as he walked through the staff doors into the shops’ kitchen. 

After about 20 minutes had passed, Iroh came into the kitchen, clutching what looked like a napkin and some paper Yuan bills. 

“Zuko! The girl left this on her table after she left!”

Zuko carefully took the napkin from his uncle’s hand, reading the message. 

“Thanks for the tea! - y/n.”

• “You however, managed to not fall under my charm. It’s so annoying…But that just gives you a better role for me~”

• You were then caged in by your kin, holding you down so you couldn’t move.

• “I’m going to make you my servant! Not just a regular one either. One that’ll serve me until I say so!”

• “I don’t want to be servant of a stupid dragon! I will get justice for your actions!”

• “WHO SAID YOU HAD A CHOICE?”

• Lychee Dragon then used their staff to hit you hard in the head, causing your vision to slowly blacken. The dragon laughed, and at that moment you felt hopeless.

Hey adopted anon here....uh....remember the pink thing I mentioned in one of my posts? Well....I decided to leave food on the window sill for it and left my window open last night since there was a pleasant night air breeze and i thought they'd appreciate the food and asked my cookies to see if they could try to spot it.....aaand I woke up this morning to the feeling of a cookie with a staff sleeping on me so I presumed it was licorice....until I looked over and saw my 3 cookies sleeping together on the dog bed I got for them and then slowly turned and....a pink dragon looking cookie was sleeping on me...they looked kinda like a jester...I pretended to be asleep, because I didn't want to anger a dragon....and after a while, I felt it get up, crawl up to my shoulder, rub up against my cheek and then felt a bit of a gust as it suddenly flew away and when I checked the food, it only took a few nibbles of it...as if it was more interested in taking a nap on me than eating the food....what should I do?

Also side question....is that species of cookie one of the bad guys? If so...judging by how 2 of the 3 cookies I own are evil...I got a feeling I'm an evil cookie magnet....do you think I am? Idk why...I'm not evil...I try to be kind and friendly to everyone but I'm introverted and usually keep to myself so idk why they are coming to me lmao!

Ooh, a Lychee Dragon!!! Those are one of my favorite ones!!!

Lychee Dragons aren't considered to be good or evil. Despite being quite loud and mischevous at some times, their tendency to make other cookies "obsess" over them, and the monster army they are sometimes seen with, they don't often try to harm humans or cookies (exception for Rumbutan tribe cookies, Gingerbraves, Mala Sauces, Milks, Dino-sours, and most Purple Yams) unless we try to harm them. So, uh...I guess it depends on how you treat them and the cookies you own.

Seeing as they sorta nuzzled you and stayed on you for a good while, it doesn't look like they mean any harm towards you or your cookies!

What has been the BL that took you by surprise this year?

Love In The Air

If you'd shown me only the plot and pictures I would not be interested. It sounds like something I would watch and then move on but the actors put their everything into this and made it very entertaining. And I think 3 out of the 4 main leads are rookie actors, too! Production value (we don't talk about the sound) is also very high. Frankly, if it's pretty enough to look at I would be entertained.

If you'd shown me what the plot is about I would have perked up and made sure to watch it. But it dragged so much and the acting felt very wooden to me.

I don't have high standards, I just need my shows to be not boring but this is what it ended up as. I love dimension travel but this is just one giant commercial that while it looks pretty, was so very boring. I think I just kept watching because of the OhmNanon and MilkLove cameos. I am tentatively interested in Last Twilight.

"The only one of my siblings that would be hard to change is Longan, and honestly I think what Longan did was more unforgivable than getting too rough in a fight, remember that apocalypse where a buncha cookies turned into stone? That was them. They're the only one I wouldn't be mad if you hurt, but even then you'd have to get to them without getting yourself killed. The only other one I didn't trust is Lychee, but when they got sick, and even though they pretended to not want the care Pitaya offered, I could tell that they appreciated it."

Knight clenched his fists. "But you still knocked me out. How long can you keep acting so nice?"

"Here's the secret." Bugtrap said. "I'm not acting."

Knight groaned, clearly not believing Bugtrap.

"And if you don't believe me, ask people in that nearby Kingdom I lived in. The only acting I did was pretending to not be a dragon. I always thought cookies were to be treated as equals. Personal Opinion: A charming love story about good food and enemies turning to lovers, what more could you want? Theo Mori and Gabi Moreno are the sons of parents that own competing businesses. So naturally, they’re enemies. They hate each other’s guts. Or at least, Theo hates Gabi. In truth, Gabi has always admired Theo. Not just because Theo is living out and proud, something he can only wish he did. But how will admiration evolve into romance? You’ll just have to read to find out.

Spoilers Below For My Likes & Dislikes:

Likes:

- I am a sucker for two things in stories. Food and Gaysians. This has both those things. I mean, I have a few gripes with Theo but overall I enjoyed his passion. The food though. I’ve got a borderline addiction to boba and every time it was mentioned and how popular it was, I felt… validated. Maybe because I went to college in Vermont and I didn’t find any places that sold boba. Oh yeah, this book takes place in Vermont and it mentioned Lake Champlain so again, I felt seen. Basically, I’m saying that there was a lot in this book that I personally related to and that gives it bonus good points in my book.

- I think the thing that I had appreciated the most was that people took accountability for their actions. Meli apologized for being a lousy friend and Gabi did the same. Justin said sorry for pushing Theo away and Theo said sorry for making everything about him. Gabi also apologized to Justin for meddling with his love life, Theo’s parents apologized for making him feel like he was to blame for everything, Gabi’s parents apologized for… well, everything. It doesn’t really make up for shit and Gabi also acknowledges that Meli will probably make mistakes again but it’s a start. Unfortunately, I would have liked it if Meli had followed up her apology with a promise she could actually keep but again, it’s a start.

- I think there is nothing more romantic in this book than when Gabi was gushing about Theo. Theo fully believed that he’s a disappointment and he’s full of self-loathing. The fact that, even before he fell for him, Gabi saw these incredible traits in Theo (his athleticism, his intelligence, his work ethic) is just so charming. Also, admiration turning romantic is one of my favorite tropes.

- Theo’s parents being so giddy about the homecoming dance was so cute to me. Just Theo’s dad lending them his suit jackets and ties and his mom wanting to take a bunch of photos. That kind of shit is so cheesy but it’s good shit.

- The title is super clever to me. It’s good wordplay and fits with the themes of the book. Especially since so much of the food stuff in the story was about weird fusions. Now, that being said, coffee with lychee sounds disgusting. I mention this because apparently, it’s not just the title of the book and the name of the new cafe they’re opening (super cute), but it’s also an actual menu item that Theo and Gabi sold. I cannot imagine it being a best-seller because it truly does not sound like it tastes good. However, I hate coffee so maybe that’s just me. 

- Thomas doing drag was a twist. I don’t know what he’s questioning when it comes to his identity but him doing drag was never something I had imagined. And I love it.

- I also love Theo’s mom standing up for herself against Greg because fuck Greg. Like Theo said, that was amazing.

Dislikes:

- Gabi’s parents are a mess. And Theo’s aren’t much better but they put in a lot of effort in the last few chapters. I bring this up because blood families treating their kids like shit never sit well with me. Sixteen years of being homophobic is… ugh. Gabi says himself that their apology doesn’t make up for all that, so like, I’m trying to look past it but I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I read so many stories with chosen families supporting one another unconditionally and this book just did not have that. Justin and Meli were both kind of lousy friends at times. I didn’t feel like they were actual best friends with either of the protagonists. So when the parents aren’t great and the friends aren’t great, I’m left at a loss for the relationships I like. Is the only one between Theo and Gabi? Because if so, that’s kind of lame.

- Theo is not the most likeable protagonist. He’s very negative and it is so draining. There’s not really anything wrong with a less than outgoing main character but Theo just made me feel tired. I think it was too much like looking in a mirror. Inferiority complex with his brother, self-loathing concerning his sexuality and his parents’ views on it, and overall just thinking you’re inadequate. It was depressing. Plus, there’s also all his unreasonable hatred toward Gabi in the beginning. It was so aggressive and I just felt bad for Gabi. At least he was able to admit to himself later that it was unreasonable. But it was still a lot.

- Uncle Greg is the real worst though. Glad he got put in his place in the end.

- I cringed way too hard at Gabi not wanting to share a drink with Justin and saying, “But I’m not gay.” I’m glad he apologized (and also came out) two chapters later but oh my god, I had to stop reading for a bit because I felt my soul exit my body. My guy, straight people can share a damn cup.

1) punz saying (and hbomb agreeing!!) that "pears are just worse apples" like WHAT SHIT ASS PEARS HAVE YOU BEEN EATING.

2) i was cheering antfrost on for saying lychees are goated but then i think he said that it's a good flavour like OUGH. that hurt me right in my soul. what about the fruit! the og!!!!!

3) georgenotfound. british (derogatory). i literally complained about what he said to a discord server where they don't know about mcyt and they were like. has this man never shopped for groceries. every time i, with my ego problem, think: I WOULD'VE BEEN A BETTER JUDGE!!!! I ACTUALLY APPRECIATE THEM. he actually asked "what are plums" like PLEASE...

4) durian was left for last but that's understandable :/ these are westerners after all. and sam picked kumquats second last because haha cum... which i. can. slightly, very slightly respect. only a smidge. he's on thin ice.

tl;dr these fucking westerners don't have good enough taste in fruits. i'm foaming at the mouth & crushing a stick with my teeth. perish in despair. in DIS PEAR, EVEN

remember when i said i was doing a Silly Drinks Journal for my new resolution? well, here's part 1 of 12!

Somehow, I scoured every store in town to find over fifty varied drinks to review. Specifically 52, with an average score of 6.4 and a median score of 7, y'nerds. Note that

I'm in the UK

only 4 of the drinks which were alcoholic, because while I am now a flavourslut, getting drunk is Not Worth The Cost imo

these were all bought by just walking around every store I could get to in town!

Here's the drinks plotted by date and score:

The worst drink, with a score of 1/10, was carbonated kvass. Look… I'm really sorry to Latvia. I really wanted to like it. On paper, rye juice is awesome. In practice, three sips was all I could tolerate before I physically couldn't drink more. I'm so sorry I can't appreciate you kvass :<

Thankfully on the next day I got one of the top-scoring drinks: botanical lemonade! It was crisp, lemony and tart. Also scoring 9/10 were:

'Tropical Orange' energy drink (Hough the taste of peach is lovely)

Local fruit farm apple & mango juice! It was a little thick, but a gorgeous combo. Literally just pressed fruit in a bottle! Local sure is best.

Vanilla milk. I mean. It's vanilla milk. Duh

I bought strawberry milk too, but sadly (2/10) had to get rid of it because it was sickly. Speaking of… I bought a 4-pack of CBD drinks. One, raspberry and guava, managed to peak to 6/10, but the rest were brought down by this horrid metallic tang, with glowing reviews like "Ugh. What? 3/10" and "I feel like I'm drinking the aluminium from the can. 2/10". Not very relaxing at all, itseems.

Some 8/10 drinks included:

two energy drinks – Cherry and Mango Loco. I really wish these were in energy-less form, they are too dang tasty.

Cream soda! It tastes just like ice cream (and goes well with it too.)

A drink flavoured like the classic Fruit Salad sweets… raspberry and pineapple is a nice contrast!

A gorgeous Łowidz Truskawka (strawberry syrup). A little sweet because, but a pretty classic taste in a very lovely thin bottle!

Rounding off the list with curious (but sadly mid) drinks:

Tomato juice! A solid 4/10. I wrote that it "tastes like I'm in the wrong context" (i.e. cooking passata).

Nestle and rosehip kombucha: my partner described it as tasting like a "petting zoo". Curious, but very… earthy. Surprisingly still a 4/10 (sorry kvass)

Lychee-flavoured drink with Nata de Coco: I really, really, really love lychee, but for some reason it didn't really vibe 100%. The tiny gel cubes of coconut milk gives it a bubble tea-like quality, which stopped me drinking too fast and helped me savour the flavour. And, eh, maybe I was harsh but I think bubble tea and lychee are like ice cream and chocolate to me: beautiful flavours that sadly don't really go well together. 7/10

Pomegranate juice! "It's like cranberry but it tastes of purple. Not bad!" I have no idea what I meant by this, but I stand by it nevertheless. 7/10

Ginger shots and (nonalcoholic) ginger beer! Keh… it's like fire in my throat… Both got 4/10.

I'm pretty sure I've bought every interesting-looking drink I could in town! Thankfully of course there is a wide variety of sites online, and when I pass by cities I can just Buy A Shit Ton of Drinks. Especially from the asian supermarkets! There are none in this town, which is a huge shame.

As it turns out, variety is the spice of life, and while some of these drinks were horrendous, most of them were really rather gorgeous, and it was lovely to get to try them all out. Also I'm really sorry to kvass again. I wish I could drink you, kvass. Will you forgive me?
