The study about women hunting as well in hunter-gatherer societies (not shocking at all) reminded me of something the red pill sphere pushes: they usually base a lot of their "science" on one study OkCupid (dating/hookup website) did to promote their website and cherry-picked the results.

Basically: they pointed to all the women that men swiped on-- who were usually twenties to early thirties-- and tried to prove that all men are just "attracted to women in their prime and woman after have lost the only thing men value" yadayadayda. Come to find out: men were swiping those age ranges ONLY for hookups-- serious dating was within five years of their age range. (AND the same was for women-- which they leave out because they think all women want to be sugar babies to older, richer men. *cue eye roll*)

For a hot minute there while I was perusing red pill stuff, I wondered if men truly thought women were disposable over 30-- obviously not all, but I was concerned about the younger generation. NOPE. Even in their own "study" to prove their wild claims/theories, the facts were against them. It's lazy science (of course)... and it wasn't even science.

It's very easy to base one's argument on one study. I think we saw that a lot with covid too.

I think you will men and women of all ages who think that women are no longer sexy after 25, or that men should be older than women in relationships. Mostly it's just conditioning.

And if you look at Hollywood, it is very skewed. I'm not just talking about celebrities not dating their own age, it's the casting. I think it might slowly be changing - but not enough and not quickly enough.

It makes sense that people looking for a serious relationship would do so in a similar age range.

so i do this thing on more difficult days, or sometimes just for fun, where i "bring a fictional character with me". i walk and imagine Fictional Character walking next to me. they talk to me, reassure me, hype me up, whatever i need them to do.

today dean winchester came christmas shopping with me. he went over the list with me of stuff i needed to get, told me i was doing a good job every time i finished in a certain shop, reminded me to take a deep breath when i got a little overwhelmed.

and yea. its kinda silly. and i know its just me talking to myself in a different voice, but it Works! especially since all of my special interests/hyperfixations tend to be tv/movie related.

so do what you gotta do to Get Shit Done. stop holding yourself to neurotypical standards. if you need Fictional Character to tell you you're doing a good job, do it! if you need Favourite Singer to walk you to school, do it! yea it might feel silly but you're literally fighting against your own brain to get stuff done every single day. you can have a little self indulgent daydream, as a treat.
