>.> Can you say more words about GO2
Oh, I can, but they're not very nice words.
While I had my issues with the first season, the second season is just so... bafflingly bad? Like, so strangely bad. Plotwise it feels like something written by a beginner. Like for some reason they've given a huge budget to some mediocre fanfic. There are just so many instances where they obviously had to get from point A to point B and just made up a quick shortcut without thinking too much about the implications or it, you know, making sense. Some of it is because of the honestly strange decision to let other writers take care of the flashbacks, with the worst contender the WWII flashback (zombies exist now? with no repercussions? so much gratuitous gore? Also the whole sequence with the gun would be so dramatic if, you know, demons actually died instead of being discorporated being nothing but a minor administrative setback). But it's also there in the main plot. Fire extinguishers work against demons for some reason? Aziraphale goes all the way to Scotland and back to learn basically nothing? The whole contrived romantic subplot with Nina and Maggie? The fucking Gabriel/Beelzebub thing? It's all either so heavy handed or just plain lazy. And I'm all for suspension of disbelief but if it's just one thing after another...
To me it feels like the basic plot of the whole second season could've over and done with in half an episode, and they just put in filler after filler to fluff it out into a full season where, in fact, barely anything happens.
And it's so odd! I know John Finnemore's work, he's good at intricate little plot connections! And Neil Gaiman can hardly be called an inexperienced writer either! It just feels like they were too lazy to actually bother writing a plot that works.
Meanwhile characterisation-wise, they've gone further on the path they'd already started in season one and wandered even farther away from what made the book characterisation interesting. In the book, Crowley is the nice one, who's generally polite and friendly and very fond of humans, while Aziraphale is, honestly, a bit of a dick and a recluse who prefers not interacting with humans and is 100% down to kill a child if it means he can keep his comfy lifestyle going. Aziraphale accidentally kills a dove and doesn't care about it. Crowley is the one that revives it. It's that kind of contradiction that makes it so fun, and to see that reversed into Aziraphale being a bleeding heart saving-the-poor-humans and Crowley acting all tough and sarcastic really erases a lot of what makes the pairing so charming.
But the thing that bothers me the most is how much they included the Big Conflict between Heaven and Hell. In the books, both Crowley and Aziraphale are low in the hierarchy. You only catch a glimpse of the big players and only at the end. Plus, they're lazy. It's a plot point that they both have human agents to take care of the work for them and that they don't get involved. They're not remotely interested by the overarching conflict or wanting either side to win. The whole point of the Agreement is that they take over a bit of each other's work for ease and convenience. And they're not particularly involved in humanity's welbeing either, and they definitely don't go around saving individual humans. They're disturbed by it, sure, but they don't think about interfering in any way. They only start taking an active role when their comfy lifestyle is threatened. And that's what I like about the whole thing. It's small, in a way. It's contained. Meanwhile the TV series went full out with Hell and Heaven fighting against each other and Crowley and Aziraphale suddenly becoming major agents in that conflict, catching the interest of demons and angels all the way up. It feels very at odds with the central theme and message of the book.
I did enjoy watching it. About 50% for the little things that did work, and about 50% to point and laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.
And to spot the Pratchett references, of course. Those were nice.

I Could Show You
Pairing: Drew Starkey x Reader
Warnings: Mentions of Spit Kink
Pronouns: She/Her
Word Count: 0.3K
Summary: Y/N noticed something interesting during their Thrist Tweet Interview with Buzzfeed.
A/N: This is inspired by this interview. It will have a part two with smut.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Y/N turns toward JD as he reads the next tweet. “The fact that I would let Rafe Cameron SPIT in my mouth shows that I should not be allowed to make my own life decisions,” JD says out loud, laughing as he does so. Her eyes flicker toward Drew and she watches as his bottom lip buries between his teeth. There is something in his eyes that kindles a fire between her legs. She rubs her thighs against each other to try to smother out the flame. Eventually, she has to face forward so that she can read the next tweet.
———
JD and the girls decided that after the day of interviews, they wanted to go out to get something to eat. However, Y/N and Drew were too tired from the day so they were going to stay in the hotel for dinner. The car ride shared between the two was quiet as they tried to recuperate from the day. They finally found their voices when they were in the privacy of the elevator. “Soo…” Y/N begins. “Those thirst tweets were pretty thirsty.” Drew chuckles, “Yeah, I didn’t know people could be so creative with words.” Y/N nods and looks up at him with a smirk, “Me either. I also didn’t know that you could be so kinky.” The tone oozes with teasing and Drew’s eyes find hers. “What are you talking about?” he questions. Her teeth find her bottom lip, “I saw the way you reacted when JD read about spitting in the writer’s mouth. That turned you on.” He smirks as he recalls the event. He turns so he is facing her and takes a step forward. The tip of his shoes knocks against the side of hers. He leans down so that his mouth presses against the shell of her ear, “I saw the way you acted too. You were intrigued by it. If you give me the chance, I could show you you are just as kinky as I am.”
The elevator dings signalling that they are on their floor. The doors roll open and Drew exits the metal box as if nothing happened. As if he isn’t leaving his co-star behind with a burning within her that can only be satiated by him.

The 7 Sins
A.N. So, I've been having writer's block and not knowing wth to do with Family Feud. But I will try to post the story in full this weekend. In the meantime, here's a little something I wrote yesterday and posted to my sister's Wattpad book, The Bloodlines Island of Relevancy (in which I am a co-writer). Enjoy. Constructive feedback is welcomed!
Tumblr media
"Girl come on. It's just a club. Loosen up a bit and have a little fun Miss CEO." Your best friend Zaina says, playfully rolling her eyes at you.
You were currently wandering around the city, enjoying the night with your girls, trying to relax your mind. At first, you rejected the offer to go out late on a Friday night, but with endless begging from your sister and close friends, you gave in. Figuring one night of fun wouldn't hurt right? After all, your busy schedule rarely allowed you a normal life of a 27-year-old beyond work. Your sister, Fallon, would tease you about living the life of an old woman. But you couldn't help it. You had goals to achieve, ambition, and drive. You knew nothing outside of work. But tonight, you'd temporarily put that aside for some innocent fun.
"Come on sis. We don't have to stay long." Fallon says, knowing clubs weren't exactly your scene, however, she couldn't help but want to try out the new club.
"I just...I don't know.... A club called 7 Deadly Sins? I mean look at their slogan, Once you've had a taste of sin, you'll never be the same. I don't know.... sounds sketchy." You say unsure as you all momentarily stop walking to stare at the club across the street. A long line has already formed at the trendy club.
This club had just opened in town, however, being that this was a party town, people immediately flocked to it once word got around about the immaculate experience you were promised to have once you stepped through the doors. From what you've heard, the club was family-owned and apparently a part of a growing franchise. How true that was, you weren't sure, but you weren't much of a party person, opting to spend your weekend catching up on work while not at work. Guess you'd have to find out tonight.
"Girl, stop playing and let's go." Zaina says, grabbing your hand, intertwining your fingers, and pulling you towards the club.
You inwardly roll your eyes but let her drag you along to stand in the long line. You'd only hoped these heels wouldn't blister your feet by the time you returned home. You pull down your mini red dress, starting to regret wearing the dress your sister picked out for you:
Tumblr media
You and your girls make conversation as you slowly but surely move closer and closer to the door entrance, two security guards checking everyone before their entry into the club which by the way, looked hella intriguing from the exterior. The bright red writing that read 7 Deadly Sins was alluring and surrounded by flames. Almost as if the sign were made by the devil himself. Well, if this club was as hot as people said, you wouldn't be surprised.
You finally make it to the security guards as they search y'all and then let you all in.
"Enjoy yourself ladies...." one of the guards smirks as you only nod your head.
"Oooh damn, this is nice!" Tyra, also your best friend says in amazement at the interior of this club.
Bodies were spread out all over, some on the dance floor grinding and enjoying the music, others at the luxury bar, and others lounging around. You must admit, the inside was impressive. But you weren't here to do too much. You just wanted to sip on your water, monitor your girls, especially your sister, and go home.
"Oooh bestie let's dance! They playing Water by Tyla!" Fallon says to Tyra as they grab each other's hands and run off towards the dance floor. That sister of yours was a dancing machine.
"Be careful!" you yell after them.
"Yes, mother!" Fallon yells, barely paying you any attention.
You shake your head before scanning the large room before your eyes land on the bar. It was huge. Various wines and drinks line the shelves of the bar. Too bad you weren't a drinker, otherwise you'd be in alcohol heaven. Maybe this club, unlike all the other clubs here in your hometown, offered water.
"Hey girl, I'm gonna go join Fallon and T. You good?" Zaina asks, not wanting to leave before making sure you are good first.
"Yes. I'm just gonna go to the bar." You give her a small smile before she nods and walks away.
You make your way through the sea of people to the bar and take a seat that gives you a view of your friends.
Immediately you're greeted by this bartender and damn was he fine with a nice black beard, dark brown eyes, and a smile that showed off his bottom row grillz in his mouth. His fade was cut to perfection as it complimented the wet curls in his mullet, his hair dyed red at the tips. He licks his lips at you before giving you a small smile.
"And what can I get for this beautiful goddess in front of me?" he greets, looking you up and down, making you blush profusely. You weren't the type of woman that was used to compliments. You were pretty much to yourself, not wanting too much attention on yourself.
"Umm....I know this sounds very lame but...do you have any'" he cuts you off mid-sentence.
"Water?" he grins, seeing your slightly shocked expression.
"How did you-"
"Know? Ha. I can tell from your aura.... You're not a drinker. But unfortunately, we don't have any water." He says as your shoulders slump slightly.
"Of course." You mumble, looking down at your fingers.
"No, worries baby girl. We may have alcohol but not all of it is strong. Would you like to experience with your taste?" he asks, tilting his head at you.
"I....I don't know I....." your voice trails off as you look at the display of many drinks aligned so neatly on the shelves. Some wines looked as old as time, while others looked fresh out of the box. Tempting, but nah.
"Listen, I know you're a new face around here, but relax mama. This is a fun place. Enjoy yourself. Let go." The bartender teased, licking his lips. Every time he licked his lips you swear you melted.
"It's just-"
"Ayo Jey, Joe wanna speak to you real quick." Some guy, who looks exactly like the bartender says, approaching him.
He takes a glance at you and has to do a double-take.
"Damn, you're fine. Whatcho name is? I've never seen you here before." The guy smiles, giving you a once-over.
"Don't scare her off with yo' ugly a**. Now move, Jonathan. We talking." Jey says, playfully rolling his eyes.
"Whatever. Joe wants you, immediately. He says it's important." Jonathan shrugs, before turning his attention back to you.
"What's your name?" he asks, leaning against the counter.
You giggle slightly before answering.
"Y/n, huh? Cool. Cool. Well, welcome to 7 Deadly Sins. I'm Jonathan, one of the owners. Nice to see a fresh face around here." He greets you, taking your hand into his and kissing it.
"Boy if you don't move with them chapped lips. I'll get to Joe in a minute." Jey says as Jonathan shrugs, winking at you.
"See you around." He says before walking off.
"Okay......since you seem to be the drink expert, what is your least alcoholic drink on the menu?" you ask as Jey chuckles.
"Hmm...well we do have our newest collection called The 7 Sins. Wanna look at the menu? It's got the description of each drink on it. You can pick which one you'd like." Jey says, pulling out a laminated menu with various drinks on it. He then points to the described drink selection.
"Scan through. See which one you like. I'll whip it up for you when I get back." Jey says as he goes off to speak with this Joe person.
You nod your head, saying nothing as you scan through the menu. The drinks all sounded delicious, but again, you weren't a drinker, so you weren't sure which one to consume.
"Hmmm.... let's see what we have. Once you've picked your sin, this is where the fun begins. What kind of statement is that?" You say eying the sentence that was in bold black letters above the drink choices.
Sin 1- Lust. This drink will put you in a state of euphoria, excitement, and curiosity. Take a sip of this sultry strawberry drink and give in to your sexual frustrations. It will light a fire of desire inside you. But be warned, once consumed, you can't turn back.
Toxicity Level: 10 *This is the most lethal of the seven drinks. Drink at your own risk. 💀
Sin 2- Gluttony. This drink will have you wanting more and more, unable to quench your thirst. One sip and you will be consumed with the temptations of excessive hunger. Some say it's a bad thing to love something too much. With this chocolatey goodness, you will not be able to stop at one. You will want more and more. And more.........
Toxicity Level: 6 😋
Sin 3- Greed. This drink will make you greedy and needy. Will you be able to fight the urge to soothe your tastebuds with the delightful taste of sweet and tart citrus fruit mixed with mango? This drink will have you taking the sweetest of vacations on a tropical island, feet in the sand, and ocean waves. Try it and enjoy it as you are taken to another place. One you've never thought possible.
Toxicity Level:8 🤑
Sin 4- Sloth. Who says it's a bad thing to do nothing? No one cares about responsibilities when you can move at your own pace. Often called the lazy ones' choice, this fizzy blue raspberry drink will leave you wanting to kick back, relax, and sleep away. After all,.....time waits for no one.
Toxicity Level: 3 😴
Sin 5- Wrath. The heat of eternal hell cannot compare to the explosive heat of this blood-orange & habanero mix. Beat the heat.
Toxicity Level: 9 🤬
Sin 6- Envy. Sometimes you want the good things in life, even if it belongs to others. One sip and you will be consumed by envy with this exquisite lemon zest, with a hint of ginger and spice.
Toxicity Level: 7 😒
Sin 7- Pride. It is often said that pride is the devil. Ha. But who can resist one's pride? This elegant, delicate peach and rum mixture will give you the gratification you're looking for.
Toxicity Level: 5 😁
Hmm.... these all sound.....interesting but your eyes were immediately drawn to Lust. It sounds like a dangerous drink, but you were willing to try it.
Just as you'd finished making your decision, Jey returned. The once smiley demeanor is now gone. His little talk with Joe must not have gone well. You look back down at the menu, avoiding his gaze. He sighs heavily as a moment goes by before you look back at him.
"I um...I made my decision." You say quietly.
He instantly smirks.
"Okay, baby girl. Which one are you trying?" he responds.
"I think I'll get Sin 1, Lust, please." You smile, as his smile instantly disappears. Geez, this man's mood can change quickly.
".... Are you sure?" he asks quizzically.
"Uh...yeah?" you say now unsure. Had you chosen the wrong one?
"Damn, going for the most lethal one huh? Hahaha, you got guts. If that's what you want." He grins, as he starts making your drink.
You turn your attention away from him momentarily to gaze at the dance floor. You look on as you see your sister and friends talking to a group of individuals, one of them being Jonathan. And from the way your sister was twirling her hair, you know she was flirting. You inwardly roll your eyes. Some guy with tatted arms and a red cap, dressed in all black, was chatting up Zaina. He too had a beard, though not at thick as Jey's. Interestingly enough, he looked like a younger version of Jey. They had to be brothers. And damn was he fine too.
You giggle to yourself before turning your attention back to Jey.
"Whoaaaa. Don't burn the place down." You tease as Jey hands you a flaming drink:
Tumblr media
"Here you go. Enjoy." He smirks as you gaze at the drink, the flames seeming to draw you into a trance.
You just had to have a taste.
You go to pick up the drink as the flames die but Jey stops you.
"Y/n...listen.... this place isn't what it-" he's cut off mid-sentence by a deep voice calling his name.
"Jey! Come here, now." Says a voice belonging to this man who looked like he was handcrafted by God himself. Damn, was every man in this club fine like this?
He too had tattoos, however, only on one arm. He too had a full beard, trimmed to perfection. He had beautiful pink lips. His hair was neatly placed into a bun. As for his eyes, they were dark, almost black. You could tell from his demeanor, he was a man of stature, luxury, and importance. He was dressed casually wearing all-black. His feet were covered by a crisp pair of red, black, and white Air Jordan 1's. Just from the stares various women in the club were giving him, and the whispers, and giggling, you'd think he was the hottest man to walk this damn planet. And you'd have to agree to that statement.
He approaches Jey, an aura of anger oozing from his mannerisms, however, upon seeing you in his presence, he turns to look at you. You couldn't even look at his face, too shy to do so. Why were you suddenly nervous under his intense gaze?
He tilts his head to the side, giving you a once-over.
"And who might you be? I don't remember ever seeing you before," he says, his voice deep and smooth like velvet.
"I-I..." you stutter like an idiot as Jey chimes in.
"Joe, this is Y/n. She's a new customer." Jey answers for you, slight timidness in his demeanor.
"Ahh...well it's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Mr. Anoa'i. But you can call me Joe." He introduces himself as he extends his hand for you to shake.
You give your hand to him as he gently shakes it before raising your hand to his thick lips and kissing it softly. You instantly feel chills run down your spine. His eyes take a quick glance at your ring finger, finding it vacant before slightly biting his lip. A look of intrigue on his face. If being discrete was a characteristic, it wasn't one he possessed.
You quickly take your hand out of his, feeling your face heat up. He licks his lips, nodding his head before turning his attention back to Jey.
"Joshua, take good care of her. I want to see her back here." Joe grins, winking at you before turning to walk away.
"Wait, Uce. What did you need?" Jey asks as Joe looks over his shoulder.
"We'll discuss those matters later." He responds before disappearing into the crowd.
Jey shakes his head as you turn back to look at him.
"Must be the boss?" you say quietly as he nods.
"Yeah, and he's my cousin so......" his voice trails off as he finds himself staring at your untouched drink.
"Well.....I guess I better drink this and go check on my friends." You say awkwardly as you pick up the red drink. It looked delicious.
Jey watches you intensely as you take a sip of the strawberry drink.
Ooooh this is good.
"Oooh this is good. I love the taste of strawberries." You giggle as he smiles.
"Thanks. That's one of the most popular drinks of the entire collection." Jey smiles at your compliment.
"Who came up with the menu?" you ask curiously as you and Jey begin to make conversation.
~~
It seemed like hours had gone by as you and Jey conversed. And before you knew it, you'd drank all your drink. It was possibly the most delicious thing you've ever tasted.
"What a minute, so you're telling me the b*tch started stalking you after a one-night stand?" you laugh as Jey laughs out loud.
"Hell yeah, man. A stripper turned stalker. I had to get a restraining order." Jey laughs, shaking his head.
"Geez...You must've really put it on her. They say good d can make a b*tch crazy." You say as you gaze at Jey, suddenly feeling a heat overcome your body. You close your eyes momentarily, a dull ache forming in your head, your ears slightly ringing.
Jey tilts his head at you, a look of concern washing over him.
"Y/n? Are you okay?" he asked, guilt starting to consume him.
He should've told you to leave as soon as you sat down at the bar. Yet, he didn't. And here he was, watching something horrific that was about to take place. But he couldn't break the rules. After all, many who stepped inside this club should know the risks. This club was called The 7 Deadly Sins for a reason. Once you entered through the doors, you'd never leave the same.........if you left at all.
"Mmmmm.....my head." You groan, stumbling to your feet.
"Y/n? Y-you should leave.... now." Jey says nervousness laced in his voice.
"I-I think I gotta throw up." You whine as you stumble aimlessly, not even sure where the bathrooms are located.
Your head was starting to hurt so much you couldn't even hear Jey calling after you as you made your way through the dancing bodies. You don't even notice that your sister and friends are nowhere to be found. You didn't notice the atmosphere in the club suddenly changed.
You stumble through the crowd as your blurry vision finally makes out a bathroom sign at the very back of the club. Thank God, you felt sick to your stomach.
You push people out of your way as you hurry through the bathroom halls, seeing a sign for the women's bathroom come into view. It was at the very end of the hallway. You have to lean along the wall to guide you as your vision is almost completely gone.
What's happening to me?
You make it to the bathroom door, but by that time, you're crawling on your knees. Your trembling hand grips the door hand as you can barely push it open.
"H-heeeeelp!" You cry out but of course, the bathroom is dark and empty.
You crawl into the bathroom, your head pounding like a drum. You're only able to make it to the center of the bathroom before your body completely gives out on you. You turn over onto your side, staring at the wall as you try to blink to clear your vision, but alas, it doesn't help. Were you dying? Is this what dying felt like? Clearly, because you felt as if you couldn't breathe, the only thing you could hear was the thumping of your heart in your chest but even that was ceasing.
Suddenly, you hear the bathroom door creak open and the sound of someone making their way over to you, whistling a tune to themselves.
You try to speak and call out for help, but your mouth can only move, yet no sound is produced. It isn't until the person stands right in front of your face that you're able to just barely see a familiar pair of red, black, and white Air Jordans.
You then hear a low chuckle before everything goes black.
~~
Your eyes flutter open as you slowly begin to awaken. Your headache was suddenly gone, but your body was feeling as if the temperature in the unfamiliar room was rising. You look around, confused. Your vision was back, thankfully, but no longer were you lying on the floor of the bathroom, but here you were in this dark room:
Tumblr media
You look down at your body and no longer were you wearing the red dress you remember putting on, but instead, you were in a sexy red and black lingerie set. Your heart nearly skips a beat as you try to move but the sudden jerk of your arms and you realize you're restrained, handcuffed to the bed by a pair of red handcuffs:
Tumblr media
What the fuck?........
Your mind begins to frantically think back to what occurred before you passed out. You faintly remember Jey trying to tell you something before you stumbled away from the bar. Get away? Run away? Leave? You can't remember exactly, but here you are, now wishing you'd listened to him.
Fuck.....where am I?
You look around the empty room before you see a black door, a dim red light showing from underneath it. Maybe if you cry out for help, someone will come to save you. But then again, you were almost too afraid to speak. That's how people get killed in the horror movies. But then again, this was no horror movie. And there were no cameramen or director to scream cut! This was a reality. Your reality. And you had to find a way out, even if it meant dying trying.
"HELLLLLLP! HEEEEELP! JEY! HEEEEELP ME! PLEASE!" you cry out into the empty room, hoping your voice is loud enough to hear.
But of course, you get no response. Only the sound of your heavy breathing.
You had to keep trying. You had to get out of here and save yourself.
Wait.......
Fallon.....
Tyra......
Zaina.....
"Oh my God......" you whisper as you can't even remember the last time you saw them.
You remembered them being on the dance floor, but that's it. You don't remember them coming to check on you. You don't even remember seeing them as you pushed and clawed through dancing bodies trying to get to the bathroom. Where were they?
You struggle against the restraints, hurting your wrists as you try to release yourself, but you just can't get loose.
"You know....you're wasting your time." You hear a familiar, deep voice out of nowhere.
You gasp, looking around frantically before your eyes land on a dark figure sitting across the room, calmly twirling a drink in one hand.
You squint your eyes before you're able to make out the familiar face of Joe, the club owner. He's sitting comfortably as he stares at you intensely.
What was he doing? What did he want? Why was he doing this? Why you?
"W-w-what do you want from me? Please don't do this-" he cuts you off with a low chuckle.
"Baby girl...now is not the time to beg......trust, we'll get to that later. But first, let me answer the questions that are surely going through your mind. What am I doing, you may ask? I'm simply here to fulfill your desires. What do I want? You. Why am I doing this? Hahaha Because you may not know it, but you want me to. Why you? You chose your sin and now this is where the fun begins." He says as he slowly rises to his feet, his tall frame coming fully into view.
Oh my.... he was now shirtless, his tribal tattoos on full display. His hair was no longer in a bun, instead, it was wet and cascading down. You can't help it as your mouth immediately waters. You clench your legs together as you suddenly feel moisture begin to build up between your legs. It's like you aren't in control of your body anymore.
He slowly makes his way over to you, rubbing his hands together and licking his lips.
Oh, the things you'd love for him to do with that tongue......
Wait......what?!
This had to be the drink talking because there's no way.....
"W-w-what did you do to me?! Where's Jey?! Where are my friends?! Where's my sister?!" you yell, pulling at the cuffs as he laughs again. Damn, that taunting laugh of his.
"Oh, well your sister chose Sloth....and well.....let's just say Jonathan is putting her ass to sleep." He smirks as he eyes you up and down, finally approaching the bed.
"What about-"
"Tyra? Zaina? Jey and Joseph are keeping them occupied as well. But enough about them. Let's focus on what I'm about to do to this beautiful body of yours." He teases, slowly crawling on the bed until he's on top of you.
Your body is suddenly overcome with need and desire. You try to push the dirty thoughts away, but each time an even nastier thought creeps into your mind. God.....you just wanted him to touch you, please you, tease you, anything to calm this fire inside you. It was becoming too much.
"Give into it, Y/n. Let it consume you. Let it use you." He whispers, pressing himself between your legs to let you feel how hard he was.
Fuck.....it felt so good you couldn't help but moan.
He chuckles lowly as his lips trail along your neck, teasing you, daring you to ask for more.
You're breathing heavily as he moves his head to stare you deeply in the eyes, almost as if to hypnotize you. He then leans down until his lips are almost touching yours.
"Baby girl, by the time I'm done with you...that pussy will have a new owner." He laughs lowly as you're consumed by lust, succumbing to the temptation....
Once you've picked your sin, this is where the fun begins.
@romanstheory tagging you bestie because I love you 🥺❤️
P.S. If anyone would like to be tagged in my writings, just lemme know. ❤️ I know from my previous writing, Family Feud Preview, that some asked to be a part of the tag list, however, I'm not sure if that's with all of my writings or specific ones, so I didn't tag anyone in this as I do not want to burden anyone with too much tagging. But anyways, as always, thank you all so much for the support.

Captain and the Mate - Part One
Pairing: Pirate!Captain!Brienne of Tarth x Fem!Reader
Warnings: mentions of alcohol & blood, brief death mention, sapphic yearning, the usual warnings when writing in the GoT universe.
Synopsis: When the infamous Captain Bri makes port to recruit members to her crew, you don't waste the opportunity. To your relief and pleasure, she accepts you, and the time spent aboard her ship and among her crew leads to many things. One of them being a relationship developing between you and the Captain herself.
A/N: Happy Pride Month!! This has been sitting uncompleted in my word since like, February? March? I am not sure. Either way, a very long time. The fact that I finished this during Pride Month was only coincidental, though I am glad it ended like this because Pirate Captain Brienne is the hottest thing I have ever seen in a long time and I hope you all think the same! The sea shanty referenced is this one, but I have modified it a little bit, of course. Either way, it's good. Listen to it if you wish. :) English is not my first language and so on. Enjoy!
Thank you to bae, wifey, co-brainrotter, sharer of brain cells, and co-writer, @daydream-cement for unknowingly giving me this idea by sending a picture to the GC all those months ago.

The summer evening sun set over Oldtown as you followed the Honeywine down to the nearby inn and tavern. The Hightower's fading shadow informs you of the late hours - confirming that you were right on time for your destination and its event.
Word had spread fast when she had arrived. Whispers enthusiastically gossiped about why she was here, and what her business was. Eventually, the information reached your spiked ears: she was recruiting members for her crew.
This was something you had dreamt of ever since you heard about her: sailing with her. Someone who struck fear in people with the same name she was praised with, her actions earning her a nickname traders rued to hear. Her sails and flag striking terror and fright across all nine seas whenever spotted, and rightfully so.
She had quite a reputation. The pirate Captain who only raided, robbed, pillaged, boarded, and stole from the large, and wealthy trading companies. No one knew why she does what she does, why she only attacks the ships she does, only she knew. It was one of the largest mysteries surrounding her, she was an enigma, and she intrigued, and fascinated you at the same time.
The glowing braze of the Hightower danced in the Honeywine along with the nearby torches of the various stone houses that stood along the river. Every step you took brought you closer to the tavern, and effectively closer to her, and it was only when the tall and wooden Quill and Tankard Inn came into vision that you realized just how stupid this was.
What did you think was going to happen? That you’d just be able to waltz straight in, and that she’d accept you to her crew? No, that was wishful thinking. She would have many men on their knees in front of her, begging to sail with her, if they knew what was good for them. To even have an audience with someone with her renown was a privilege, and you were just satisfied with being in her presence.
Yet, you couldn’t shake the feeling that she might be looking for more than just work power. You had heard whispers that she had lost her Quartermaster and that she was in need of a new one, but this was just hearsay, and gossip, and you decided not to trust any of the two.
Opening the door to the wooden tavern, you quickly laid notice of the fact that it was quieter than you were used to, surely had to do with the looming presence in the room.
In the back of it - in front of the hearth and under the slanted roof - an intimidating, short-haired blonde woman sat by a table. A goblet in one hand, the other fiddling with a dagger. Her booted feet were slung up on the wooden surface as she gently rocked on her chair.
She looked bored, apathetic. The dimly light tavern only cast a shadow over her face, meaning you couldn’t quite see what she looked like from where you stood.
The tavern was empty, well, emptier than you had expected and you wondered if she had turned any men away because they failed to live up to her standards, or if you were the first one to arrive. Judging from the fuming men who sat in a corner you could see as you approached the bar, you guessed the former.
“Good evening. Do you want your usual?” The barkeep approached you as you stopped at the bar, her hands wiping themselves on the apron around her waist before they came up to help her lean against the bar top. You and she had formed an interesting friendship after your regular visits, and you had spent many evenings ranting to her about your long-time wish to sail with Captain Bri.
Unbeknownst to you, the uninterested blonde’s eyes had found you the second your back was turned. She raised her goblet to her lips, taking a sip of the strong cider the tavern was known for. The movement in her other hand never stilled, the dagger constantly moving in her scarred hand.
The reason for her eyes finding you was unknown to her, maybe it was because you had been the only non-man to come into the tavern that evening, the bartender excluded. Or maybe it was because she found you, a complete stranger to her, intriguing and magnetic, even if it was subconsciously.
Either way, her gaze was fixed on your back for a few seconds as you interacted with the barkeep, only redirecting her attention somewhere else once one of the men from her crew exclaimed how ‘slim the pickings’ were from beside her.
“No. I am here to meet the captain. However, now that I am here, it all seems like a most terrible idea.” You gave your answer to the barkeep, voicing your concerns. You were sure the nervosity was easy to hear in your voice when you spoke. The excitement of meeting Captain Bri had completely overshadowed the reality of the situation, but you couldn’t just turn around and leave. You had to at least try.
“I was wondering when you’d show up,” the barkeep chuckled slightly. “She has yet to accept a single bloke. I’d say your chances are high.”
“Well... I am here. I might as well go try.” You released a shaky sigh. Realizing you had to at least act somewhat confidently so that Bri would consider recruiting you, you pushed down your anxiousness to the best of your abilities. “She’s the woman at the table. Right?”
“Mhmm,” the bartender hummed in confirmation. “Go wow her.” She gave you a thumbs up and a smile before she departed to help a customer who was waiting further down the bar. You turned around and approached the intimidating presence by the table with determined steps.
When you stopped in front of the table, you could, by the help of the glow of the fire behind her, finally see her face. Her face. Many things were told about Bri the Righteous Beast, but none of the stories mentioned her immense beauty.
She was incredibly handsome, her disheveled blonde hair framing her intense blue eyes as they raked you up and down. And her lips. Good Gods, her lips. The small, accented scar on her upper lip scrunched as she smirked, and you wondered how she had been bestowed such a stunning ‘flaw.’
She was a vision, there was no other way to put it and you could spend so many hours just staring at her. There would not be enough time to take in her entirety, but your life would have to suffice.
Eventually, your gaze wandered to her hands. Her hands. They looked so strong, and her fingers were so long. Small, long, and deep, scars were visible on most of her fingers, her palms, and the backs of her hands, surely from learning to master dagger fidgeting and sword fighting.
The hand that had previously been playing with a dagger had stopped, and the noise of sharp metal being stabbed into wood ripped you out of your observation.
“Well. Look here. The Lady here wants to join our crew.” If Bri’s face was attractive, her voice only matched it. It was velvety smooth, so deep and so extremely intruding. Her accent only made it even more delicious, and you were sure you would never get used to it. Even if the captain’s voice and words sounded cocky, there was a mighty insecurity swimming in her eyes and her soul that did not match her outwardly persona. “I’m no knight, but I’m sure pretty ladies such as yourself should be in their castle... not down here with us peasants.”
The smirk plastered on her face was infuriating, but you couldn’t deny that it was thought-provoking and so, so attractive. Her words didn’t have the effect on you that she might’ve liked them to have, not even the comment on your appearance, as the constant eye contact only reminded you of the self-consciousness inside of her. At the same time as you wanted to tuck your tail and run, you wanted to stand your ground. Show your grit. So, you did. “I’m no Lady. But I’m sure you knew that. You were right about one thing, however. I want to join your crew, Captain. I want to sail under your command.”
The blonde raised a brow and her smirk fell. She threw her feet off the table to place them on the ground so she could lean forward in her chair. She placed her goblet on the table next to the wood-impaling dagger, her eyes scanning your face imperceptibly. “...Very well. Have you sailed before?”
“Yes, Captain.” The intense eye contact was burning you up from the inside and you wanted nothing more than to break it - if only just to breathe, but you knew you couldn’t do that if you wanted Bri to believe your words. Because of this, you remained strong. “I was Quartermaster on my last ship before the captain got drunk and sunk it during a supposed boast. I wasn’t present.”
The captain cocked her head to the side as she watched you, trying to assess whether you were telling the truth. In the years of being a pirate captain, Bri had learnt quite fast how to tell if a person was lying. From what she could tell, you weren’t.
She was silent for a long while before she finally spoke. “Well, as luck would have it, I need a new Quartermaster. My last one had to be... let go. But I say that we should get you started as a crew member first. Just to see how you work. And to build trust. And gain respect from the rest of the crew. We just met, after all.” Suddenly, the blonde woman stood up from her chair to reach out a hand to shake, and oh, was she tall. At least six feet, you guessed. There was seemingly nothing about this woman that was unattractive.
Her intimidating height and appearance made it hard to resist staring at her open-mouthed but that would be considered rude, and frankly unprofessional, so you abstained. Even if it was tempting. Instead, you grabbed hold of her incredibly soft, outreached hand and shook it, your eyes never leaving hers, even when you had to change from gazing down at her to up at her.
The smile she offered was much softer than her previous demeanor had been, and it caught you off-guard. It matched her more than her earlier expression. Matched the emotions that you could see deep in her eyes and soul.
You could only hope to get to know her on a level that would allow you the pleasure of seeing and meeting the real her. Until then, you’d be the best crewmate she had ever seen.
“Welcome to the crew.” And just like it never left, the captain’s overconfident behavior had made its return. She let go of your hand and motioned with her head towards the men sitting in a booth diagonally behind her before sitting down in her chair. “Go socialize with the rest of the crew. Get to know them well. You will be spending a lot of time together. Don’t be scared... they don’t bite. But I might.” That cursed smirk again. Why did it have to look so good on her luscious lips? It was plain torture, that much was clear.
The only thing you could do was nod and go sit down with the crew, the rejected men in the other booth groaning in anger as you did. When it reached your ears, you couldn’t help but feel the tiniest bit smug that you had been chosen and they hadn’t. Maybe this wasn’t the most terrible idea you had built it up to be when you entered the tavern. This had been the best idea it had originally posed itself to be in your mind.
The men conversed around you, and even if you were sitting amongst them, you wouldn’t say that you were paying attention to anything they were saying. You were more focused on the woman who sat mere meters away from you with her back toward you. With the new point of view, you could observe her without her knowing it.
Her booted feet had found their way up onto the table again and the dagger was back in her hands. Her trousers were dark, in this light you couldn’t be sure but either a dark grey or dark blue. The shirt she wore was loose on her upper body, it was off-white due to years of wear and slightly unbuttoned at the top which you had registered when you gazed down at her.
There was a piece of cloth tied around her waist to ensure that her shirt didn’t blow up in the intense ocean winds. It was blue, close to the color of sapphire, but considering the sun was ruthless and had bleached it significantly, it was hard to tell.
The sword that hung by her hip was broad but seemed light enough to offer one-handed handling. A broadsword if you had to take a guess.
The rest of the evening was not as eventful as you had hoped. Bri turned away every single person that approached her except for one man.
When the tavern began closing for the night, the captain approached the table you and the rest of the crew were sitting at.
As the hours had gone on, you had grown more comfortable than you thought you would and had even had a cider or two.
The rugged exteriors of the men did not match their insides and you found them to be quite charming and funny, which was rare for most men in Westeros, but especially for pirates. You could see why Bri had recruited them to her crew.
Your chatter was cut short when Bri stopped by the table, her eyes roving over all the people who were sitting by it. When her eyes got to you, they lingered for a few seconds longer before they resumed their journey. You noticed this and you wondered if it was intentional or not. When she finished her scan, she spoke with that deep voice that made a shiver run down your spine. “The haul was scarcer than I had expected...” After she had uttered her first few words, she made direct eye contact with you and smirked, again. “But it will have to do. I’m sure our two new recruits will pull their weight.” It seemed like forever before she broke the contact, moving her gaze to the only other recruit.
The sound of a voice coming from behind Bri made her turn around and the rest of you direct your attention to the person behind the captain. “If you don’t have a room rented, it’s time to leave. We close in five minutes.” The voice came from the barkeep who was holding back the largest smile when she saw you sitting amongst the men. She had her arms crossed over her chest as she addressed Bri and the rest of her crew.
The captain nodded toward the bartender before turning to face you and the men once again. “It seems like we have reached the end of the line, gentlemen... and gentlewomen. Let us trot back to the ship and our respective beds, shall we?” Bri turned back to the bartender once again to offer words of gratitude. “Thank you for your hospitality.”
The barkeep in turn responded with a curt nod and a ‘anytime.’ She then stood to the side so Bri and her crew could leave, only giving you the largest grin when you passed her by to leave the tavern. She whispered some encouraging words, well, they were short considering you had to keep moving to not fall behind.
Bri led you and the crew out into the chill night air, and it was needed because the second you had stood up you had felt the tipsiness from the strong cider. The cool air would help in sobering you up, and if it didn’t, you were sure the salty ocean air would when you departed out to sea the next day.
The walk along the docked boats in the Honeywine was longer than you had expected it to be, but when you finally reached the ship at the far end, you were more than ready to call it a day.
The captain stopped right before the docked ship and let the rest of the crew board but stopped you and the other recruit. “This is The Bloody Sapphire. She will be your home for the rest of your life until you die or desert. You better not because if you do desert, I will hunt you down and kill you. If you treat her well and with respect, she will return the favor. Your beds are below deck, make yourselves comfortable. Tomorrow, we make way to Lannisport to resupply. They are not very friendly so put your best innocent face on for our visit. If you need me, my cabin is underneath the quarterdeck, but do not wake me unless there is a fire, we are sinking, someone is attacking us, or if someone is dying. Savvy?”
You and the man looked at each other before you looked at Bri again and nodded. Both of you responded in unison, making the captain laugh slightly. “Savvy.”
“Good. Then you may board.” The captain stepped aside to allow you both to step aboard, but before you could step a single foot on the wooden deck, Bri stopped you with a hand hovering in front of your sternum whilst she allowed the other recruit to step aboard and you watched him disappear below deck.
You looked at her with a puzzled expression as your mind ran through the possible reasons for her stopping you. What could she possibly say that the other guy couldn’t hear? Then again, she had her reasons, and you shouldn’t question her. So, instead of voicing your confusion, you remained silent as you waited for her to speak.
“I never caught your name. I suppose my mind was distracted and I completely forgot to ask.” Bri dropped the hand that had been hovering in front of your sternum and it came to rest on the pommel of her sword. Her voice was much softer than it had previously been when she had addressed you and your fellow recruit, and you wondered why that was.
What you didn’t know was that against her better judgement, the captain’s brain had somehow convinced itself that you were a safe space. Even if she had only met you a handful of hours ago. She was drawn towards you.
When you told her your name, she repeated it and the way it sounded rolling of her tongue with her accent was orgasmic. Never had it sounded so beautiful as it did when spoken by her. In return, she introduced herself to you, not that she needed to, you already knew her name. But you guessed that it was an act of honor. “Bri of Tarth.”
“The Sapphire Isle? Is that where the name for your ship comes from... and your waist fabric?” Learning where she came from spiked your curiosity, and you asked more questions than you probably should have, considering she enjoyed her privacy. What you weren’t expecting, and that was a pleasant surprise, was that she answered.
“Indeed. The ship's name is... a long story.” Bri looked down at the fabric around her waist and smiled before she looked back up at you again. “Well spotted. It is indeed sapphire blue... or it used to be, at least. It is from Tarth, I wanted to have something on me that would remind me of my old home. This piece of fabric has been with me since the beginning of my seafarer career. I’m surprised it hasn’t ripped yet.”
You observed the fabric tied around her waist, excluding dirt stains from years of usage, the occasional blood spatter from seeing many battles, and the bleach from the sun, it looked strong. “I’d say it won’t rip for a while... looks like good material was used. Whatever it was intended for must’ve been important, the fabric looks expensive.” You looked up at Bri again and met her eyes. A flash of what looked like sorrow was briefly displayed in her eyes and you realized that your nice, late-night, alone chat was over.
Her demeanor changed in the blink of an eye - as if she had mastered switching her expression and behavior. Her tone switched from gentle and tender to overweening, but her eyes never left the previous persona. “Sorry for holding you up. Off you go.”
You wanted nothing more than to stay, to protest, to say that you wanted nothing more than to stay here all night and converse with her, but your feet worked against the will of your brain and before you knew it you had stepped aboard the ship and was climbing down the stairs that led below deck, leaving Bri standing behind.
She boarded the ship after a few seconds and retired back to her quarters where she proceeded to think of you until she fell asleep. You fell asleep thinking about her, her intense blue eyes and her blonde hair stayed on your mind until you fell into slumber next to the rest of the crew.
------
The weeks that passed after you were integrated into Captain Bri’s crew went by lightning fast. You and the recruit, who you had learnt was named Will, had worked hard and had earned both the respect of the rest of the crew and your captain.
After your conversation on the dock, you had managed to get a private chat with the tall blonde five times. The interactions were cut short by various interruptions or her withdrawing from the discussion.
It was like there was some sort of conflict inside of her and she couldn’t decide which side to listen to. It was heartbreaking to watch.
After a month of sailing with Bri and her crew, you began climbing the ranks. It started with a simple suggestion that ended up working well in everyone’s favor and before you knew it, you had been voted for and promoted to first mate. The new title didn’t do much in terms of giving you more one on one time with the captain, but it was a step towards it.
After three months of being aboard The Bloody Sapphire, a chaotic boarding made it clear that the ship clearly needed a Quartermaster and the crew voted for you, considering your experience. Bri could not complain because it meant she would be able to see you more often. You were always standing by her side when she was standing by the wheel, after all.
This new rank did earn you the privilege of having many alone talks with Bri as she steered the ship. Until she, of course, left for her chambers and left you to take over for her. The shortness of the interactions meant you didn’t learn that much about her that you didn’t already know, and it was starting to gnaw.
That was until you were standing by her side by the wheel on a very sunny fall afternoon and the men started singing. The song was about some scorned woman killing a man who betrayed her and the woman by his side.
It took you until the middle of the shanty to realize that it matched some of the things you knew about Bri. You turned your head to look at her where she stood, her gaze fixed dead ahead. “Is this shanty about you?”
The captain sighed and the noise of it disappeared into the chilly early Autumn air. She was silent for a few moments until she nodded. “It is. The story went down quite differently, however.” Bri’s gaze never wavered, her eyes never leaving the blue water. “I didn’t sneak aboard a ship for revenge. I snuck aboard a ship because I wanted to get away. The fact that the person who betrayed me was on the ship as well was only a bonus. She just disappeared, and I found out why when I saw her walk with her new lover. I didn’t kill them. Just to make that clear.”
You listened to Bri’s story but completely stopped breathing once she so casually mentioned that the woman was her former somewhat lover. Even if it caught you completely off-guard, you were able to listen to the rest of her retelling.
This was the most you had learnt about her in one single conversation, and it made you mightily happy. You so desperately wanted to ask more questions, about why she wanted to get away, who did kill the two lovebirds, but you didn’t want her to escape back to her quarters again.
Even if you wanted to get to know her even more when the opportunity had presented itself and she seemed to be open to sharing, you would rather enjoy her presence in silence over not being in her proximity at all. Meaning you only said something to let her know that you had listened and acknowledged her sharing but kept your mouth shut to not let anything slip out. “I see.”
You stood in silence for a while until Bri opened her mouth to say something but was inevitably disrupted by Will who had shown up at the captain’s side in the blink of an eye to explain that they needed to dock somewhere to resupply.
After the blonde woman had dismissed him, she looked over to you and within seconds you had moved to the sea map to lay a new course towards a pirate-friendly port.
When you returned to the helm, Bri left for her quarters again. Your absence had surely led to her conflicting with herself again and had probably concluded that she had shared too much with you. You had no idea what she did in her quarters all those hours, but you didn’t want to ask because you wanted to offer her privacy. At least there was some progress.
------
Six months after learning that Bri had a shanty written about her, you had been able to snag her for many more chats and each one lasted longer than the one before.
You learnt more and more about her in every day that passed and even if you didn’t want to admit it, you were so in love with her. You had known it about one month after sailing with her, but now, you were sure. Her looks combined with her gentle and loving personality made it so easy to fall for her. You just had to make sure that you did not hurt yourself on the way down, but it was a bit too late for that.
You were more than certain that she didn’t feel the same way, even if she behaved so differently around you than she did around the rest of the crew. However, what you didn’t know, was that Bri was very much attracted to and interested in you and all that you were. Having you next to her every day was one of her greatest privileges and she reveled in your proximity.
Seeing your face every single morning made her happier than any loot ever could, and she quickly found herself stumbling before she eventually fell for you. Yet, she couldn’t see how anyone could ever find her attractive, less love her. So, she didn’t allow herself to hope that you would feel the same about her and subjected herself to a life of yearning.
It would have remained hidden until the day you both died - if it weren’t for a cold winter evening.
The Bloody Sapphire had dropped anchor not that far away from Tarth, and the Sapphire Isle was visible from the deck. The ship was cleverly hidden with its sails and flag lowered to avoid a surprise attack should it be stumbled upon.
You were just about to retire to bed when you spotted Bri standing by the railing, looking out over the ocean in the direction of Tarth.
Slowly, you approached her and stopped next to her, looking out over the Sapphire Isle yourself. After so many of your conversations and her sharing so much, you felt confident enough to pose a query after you had stood in stillness for a few minutes. “Do you miss it? Tarth, I mean.”
Bri leaned against the railing of the ship as she stared at the silhouette of Tarth. Her silences before her answers had become commonplace and you had gotten used to them at this point.
As you patiently awaited her response, you shifted your gaze from the darkened Sapphire Isle to the woman standing next to you. You really couldn’t help yourself when she looked so pretty in the glow of the torch.
The fire cast a shadow over her face - her side profile looked even more angelic in this light, and you could only wish that you would be able to see her this close and like this so many more times in your life.
When she finally replied, she ripped you out of your appreciation for her features and you began focusing your attention on her voice as well. “Sometimes. Though it’s very rare. The people I have met on my journey and my crew have treated me so much better than anyone on that island ever did. They have never insulted me. Not once. Not even when they learnt that I was a woman. I never wish to go back there. This is my new family.”
She was so... vulnerable and it made you shocked. Sure, she had shared small things about herself in your talks but never something this deep. You couldn’t let the opportunity go to waste again. “When they learnt you were a woman? May I inquire in what it is that you mean, Captain?”
Bri gazed at the Isle where she had grown up and eventually left as she told her story. It almost felt ironic in a way. Like it was coming full circle. Speaking about something she had never uttered out loud as she was close to and looking at Tarth. The island where the anecdote began.
“When I first snuck aboard a ship that docked by Tarth, I told everyone that my name was Bri, and I even darkened my voice so they would believe that I was a man. When they eventually learnt I was a woman, they welcomed me with open arms instead of shunning me and calling me names. It was such a new approach and reaction. I’ve never been so happy.” Towards the end of her story, the blonde was smiling fondly as she thought back to how welcomed she had felt by a band of outlaws when she couldn’t even get the smallest amount of kindness on Tarth.
Your gaze never left the captain’s pretty face. You could never get used to how beautiful she looked, and you simply could not believe how other people could not find her as attractive as you did. She was the most gorgeous person you had ever laid your eyes on in your entire life.
Despite your mind coming up with all sorts of scenarios that would surely be deemed inappropriate should someone hear them, you still managed to ask a follow-up question to Bri’s tale without slipping anything that would let the blonde woman know that something completely different was going on in your head. “So... Bri is not your real name?”
The captain shook her head before she responded. “No. No one knows my real name. The old band I joined and my current crew stated that to them, my old name does not matter. To them, my name is Bri. Though, I have nothing against my real name. I just prefer to have the rest of the world know me as it, so they get confused when they see that I am a woman.” Bri let out a small chuckle at the end of her explanation. Almost like she was thinking back to the different reactions she had gotten from various captain’s ships that she had boarded. “Except you seem to have known that I was not a man from the beginning based on your reaction when you first saw me...”
“You are a legend... I had to know more about you. There was not a lot to learn about you from the people I managed to find. I only found out about your womanhood through a friend who works somewhere where tight lips go to blab. She also sees many things. Though, finding out that you were a woman only made me want to sail with you even more... I... May I pry?” Even if Bri seemed to be more comfortable with sharing and answering your queries, you knew that she had a habit of removing herself from the discussion when it was too much, and you did not wish to take her openness for granted. She had done nothing but treat you with respect, so you did the obvious thing and returned the favor. You had no interest in upsetting her when she was so exposed.
“I see... Yes.” Her answer to your question was fast and equally as quick as she had responded, she turned her head to look at you who was intently admiring her. With her now facing you, you could see her breathtaking blue eyes that sparkled so bewitchingly in the light from the torch just meters away from you both.
“What is your real name?” The inquiry was a whisper as your eyes scanned her face for any sign of the overweening personality you had gotten used to usually signaling the end of your conversations. It never came. The gentle and careful personality remained. The personality you assumed was the real her.
Bri opened her mouth to answer your query but stopped when a noise sounded from below deck signaling that one of the crewmates was still awake. The captain turned her head to look at the hatch leading down and waited for someone to pop their head up, but that never happened.
Even if it was still quiet below deck, she couldn’t risk someone eavesdropping on the conversation considering her behavior was completely opposite from how she usually acted. Before she spoke, she turned her head back to look at you. “We shouldn’t do this here. Join me in my quarters?”
The question caught you by surprise. Never had you been inside of her quarters before and it was something you could never have dreamt of and now she was extending an invitation. At first, you were unsure if you had heard her correctly but as she looked at you expectantly, you knew you had heard her right.
You almost screamed your answer, ‘Gods, yes please!’ but that might be seen as a little bit too enthusiastic and would surely weird Bri out. What came out was more composed and calmer - not a single trace of the previous excitement. You were surprised that your voice came out without a single shake, tremor, or stutter considering the storm that was going on inside of your head. “Sure, Captain. If you’d have me.”
Your answer made Bri smile the smallest bit. She found it endearing. She found you endearing. She spun on her heels and started for the door that led to her cabin, and you followed close behind.

Incoherent Old Fashion Cupcake ramblings
I watched Old Fashion Cupcake last night and I've been in a delicious drama brainrot ever since.
This show is brilliant in every way, from acting to camera work to music to incorporating food into the character interactions to body language (y'all know what I'm talking about *smirks*)

As writing, narrative and character arc fiends, @lurkingshan and I ramble a lot about how shows wrap up all of its plotlines, how satisfying it is, and more importantly, how seamless it feels.
Old Fashion Cupcake has an office romance right at its core. Nozue and Togawa are co-workers, and Togawa is Nozue's subordinate. Which means as soon as they get together, Togawa working under Nozue will be a HR violation. One of them must be reassigned so there is no overlap in their reporting structure.
Now, this is in NO WAY a central conflict that the characters have to work through. But for me, as a viewer, it is a tiny, albeit noticeable problem that will arise wayyyyyy later in the narrative, and it would be oh-so-satisfying to have that plot thread resolved and tied up into a pretty bow within the show's runtime, without it taking focus away from the other, more important themes going on in the show.
And how do the writers do it? Nozue accepts a promotion as the head of another, newly-created department that will also relocate him to a different building. But his decision to move on to a different role is not motivated by the workplace rules, AT ALL. It is beautifully tied into how Nozue *wants* new experiences in his life now, thanks to Togawa.

The HR violation is a tertiary, almost nit-picky problem when compared to the major themes and character arc developments in the show. But it was not ignored and it was resolved exactly how it should be: as a happy coincidence that came with the closure of the main character's arc. So beautifully seamless that I want to cry.
I was rambling about this show to @waitmyturtles and she pointed out that the show's strong writing was certainly helped by the brilliant manga it was adapted from, created by Sagan Sagan. And now I'm very intrigued and might check out the manga (but in the far-off future, I am drowning in my drama watchlist atm lol). Also -- big shoutout to the screenwriter Miyamoto Takeshi. I know Japan is a pro in adapting from print/digital media to TV/movies, but to do it with such a grace? Ooooooof, all the flowers.
I highly doubt that my brainrot for this show ends here and I bet I will go on multiple OFC ramble sprees in the future. Until then, enjoy the resident OFC hamster who has no business being this fucking adorable and sexy.

Out of universe:
I just discovered this blog, and I had a question I couldn't find an answer to on the FAQ page. How does this concept compare/differ/relate to SCP?
OOC: Well, I’m definitely inspired by SCP (among other things people have pointed out in the almost 70k notes on the posters post, like Control, Portal, Omega Mart, tumblr user melinoelabs, some others I’m sure I’m not remembering). I’m a fan of SCP, I think a lot of people following me are.
As far as comparisons, there’s definitely a lot of thematic overlap between SCP and OPN, enough that fans of the SCP will probably be fans of this.
That being said, there is no intentional lore/story similarity between SCP and OPN. They are not meant to be in the same universe, and no actual lore characters/features/etc are meant to be in both unless they came from somewhere else first. Aside from very general and basic concepts like “cognitohazards” or “memetics” of course, but I’m sure SCP didn’t really come up with those, just popularized them.
As to how it differs, I can point a few things out from an author’s point of view, so take the following with whatever grains of salt you’re comfortable with.
1) I am, intentionally, building a world that is a little brighter than many settings of the same type. There’s horror and intrigue, absolutely, but there’s fun, and silliness. When brainstorming or sounding-board with my friends and co-writer, I often use the phrase “that’s goofy, but the goofiness is not disqualifying”. I mean, two months ago, an LSD-powered Alice in Wonderland themed AI saved Halloween. There’s a little bit of ambiguity, of course - the intentional clash between the “voice” of Norm who is a fundamentally optimistic person with a bias vs the darker tone of Meghan’s interviews (found in the #interview tag) is something I’m cultivating, but I hope overall it’s clear I’m intending a brighter, less grim dark tone.
2) SCP relies on a lot of wholly original content - SCP-173 did not exist as a concept before it was written, whereas much of my work leans on a basic assumption that every existing myth, legend, or folktale is at least a little bit true. The “kitchen sink” approach. SCP of course does deal with Bigfoot, or fae, or what-have-you, and I have a good chunk of concepts that are wholly original as well. It’s a mostly-true generalization that I do keep to as a design tool. Most of the posters rely on well-known concepts and the ones that don’t can be ascertained from context clues like the etymology of “Ontophage”. This is also a factor in my appreciation of real-world concepts like bureaucracy humor.
Hopefully that answers some questions! Feel free to ask more. I’ll be traveling the next few days so I might be a little quiet, but ooc stuff is a nice change of pace.

Relationships post about Nancy Drew S4
***Warning Spoilers ahead for the whole season up until 410 and theories onward***
After calming down after each episode and looking back at the season as a whole, I know I am in the minority of people who are actually enjoying this season so far and thinking that the writing is BRILLIANT this season. Having said that, here are some thoughts that I have about the relationships going on this season.
The mystery is a whole other topic and I am so intrigued by it. It has so many moving parts I can't quite piece everything together. So I am enjoying that ride as well and can't wait to see how this whole mystery unfolds by the last episode!
**LONG post alert under the cut. Again, spoiler warning for the whole season.**
----------
Again, I am one of the few people who thinks that the writing this season is brilliant. I know I will probably be attacked for this post but I need to get my thoughts out.
As painful as this season has been to Nace, and believe me I get it, I love how the writers are actually depicting their relationship amongst everyone else's. HERE ME OUT:
This season definitely has the Drew Crew growing up. They are still friends and still there for each other, but they are starting their "adult" lives. At the start of the season, we have Nick still co-owning the Claw, *not sure what is going on with the youth center*, and the whole running for council thing, Bess is in charge of the Historical Society, George still co-owns the Claw and is shadowing Judge Abbot and going to school for law, Nancy has her investigative business, and Ace is an assistant at the Morgue.
With that being said, they have also shifted their friend dynamic to an adult friendship dynamic. With the way that the timeline is depicted in the show, with some episodes taking place over just a single day, I'm not surprised at how some relationships are depicted onscreen. It's very realistic.
I know that a lot of people don't like that Ace always seems to be in the morgue and away from the crew, but he IS the only one with an actual 9-5 job that he can't get away from, so this doesn't actually shock me. This is a job he said he loved in 313 so I can see him not wanting to mess that up. With that, Nick still seems to visit him and check in on him, bringing him lunch and making sure he talks to someone at least once a day and Bess seems to go and visit him occasionally and appears to have a great relationship with Rebecca this season which we hear about but don't actually see. As soon as someone needs him, or calls him, he always helps out still while being at "work" so to me, he isn't as distant as some might think he is. And I don't think that the writers are doing him dirty as some people think either. There is a LOT that happens in an episode and it can feel like he is distant but he really isn't. (we get in him scrubs, I'm NOT complaining about that either!)
He is also still with the crew when he can be! He was with everyone in 402 and 403. He was with Nick at the Claw in 404/405? He was with everyone in rescuing Nancy in 406, playing the game in 407, and obviously the whole of 408, except the last scene. (And while I would have loved if Ace was there for that scene, I also am not mad about him fishing with his dad....more on that phone call later.)
Getting into it:
I love Nancy and Nick's BFF era this season. I also love that Nick seems to be dad #3 of the group and I'm here for it. We start out S1 with them in a relationship which didn't work out and never really had a friendship, so it's nice to see them have one now and get past that awkwardness. Nancy can lean on Nick, she knows this, and he seems to be the only one. Major growth here!
Nick and George: S3 ended with them in a bit of a mess but I am liking where their relationship is kind of headed. George admits that there are some days where it is hard to be friends with Nick but they are working on it and the friendship is growing. The body swap episode (408) proved that. Nick being there for George and her date was a sweet touch. I would love for them to get back together but even if they don't, I'm happy to see George trying with someone and I do love Jade!
Nick and Ace: Living to finally see this friendship. We get snippets of it over the course of the other 3 seasons but now we are finally starting to see it. Nick being there for Ace and hearing him out, giving advice, I love them seeing them together.
Bess and George: I am happy that Bess at least has George fighting on her side this season with Carson. Their friendship really grew and I actually liked that Bess and George said they are best friends, because they are! And yes, while Bess said "Don't tell Ace" and everyone got a little mad, you can have more than one best friend. I do!
Bess and Ace: They are still very much plantachors! They know each other well and they still seem to have a solid friendship even though we aren't seeing it much this season. Like I said before, Bess still seems to visit him in the morgue and she also seems to have a good relationship with Rebecca now which is implying that a lot of their friendship is offscreen this season. In 402, Ace said he went to Bess for moral support about finding out about the curse, and she went to everyone else. So, STILL my favorite plantanchors!
Nick and Bess: I am LOVING this friendship that came out of the past seasons. They are helping each other out a lot this season and Nick is there for Bess still with the whole situation about the Historical Society and the "witch-hunt" storyline. keep it coming!
Nancy and Bess: these two seem to have grown into sisters. They have a great friendship even though we don't see it a lot but they are there for each other in a heartbeat!
Here we go!
Nancy and Ace
Where do I even start? The most epic of slow burn romances out there. There have been so many crumbs over the last 3 seasons all leading up to this!
This is a love for either of them that they have never experienced before. While both Nancy and Ace have had other relationships, they don't even come close to the love that they feel for each other. They have admitted that they are the loves of each other's lives and Nancy admitted that Ace is her person...... That's HUGE.
They have both done so much growing up over the seasons to be able to recognize this. So, this season:
While yes, there is a lot of pain, I believe it actually grew their relationship and the writing is done very well here. Yes, Ace wound up breaking Nancy's heart at the end of 403, but Nancy broke his heart first.
This whole journey after that is them coming back together and trying to figure it out. They don't know what it is like to be "just friends" with each other and we definitely see that. Nick calls Ace out on this and you can see him agreeing! It was never just about friendship for him. Ace admitted that he still wants to be with her more than anything, but watching her almost die in his arms definitely scared him. This isn't a hallucination from Temperance, this was REAL, and Nancy ALMOST died. If Ace looses Nancy, he's losing a piece of himself and he won't know what to do. He finally understood what Nancy went through in that hallucination and understood why she stayed away. That thought is what scares him into running away and giving up because he would rather see her alive and with someone else than risking her life. That whole speech he gives her at the end of 405 was incredibly written, as heartbreaking as it was. He was very openly honest with her here too. He told Nancy that she deserves to be happy and with someone who can love her completely, EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD RIP HIM APART. He was honest!! And Nancy knew that! Nancy still loves him greatly and she doesn't know how to be around him either without those feelings rising to the surface. Everything they have done was for each other, so to take a step back, they don't know how and I think this is beautifully shown up to this point!
They are trying to be just friends, and failing. This is why it is hurt after hurt and the fights we have been seeing all season because there is still too much feeling there. They keep trying to give each other space but winds up being impossible. Ace still helping with the mystery and being part of that friend group is keeping her attached to Ace.
Tristan happened to be in the right place at the right time. While I think there is something more there (mystery pertaining), at this point, yes he is uncomplicated and easy. And NOT cursed. (well, until the sin eater reveal in 410)
But Nancy can't bring herself to let more feelings in because she is still hung up on Ace. She felt guilty when she found out that Ace saw her with Tristan and immediately tried to tell him about it. Ace being nonchalant about it on the outside affected her, you can visibly see it, and she doesn't know what to do with that.
Ace however, is still very much hurting on the inside. He just doesn't show it. He told Nancy to move on and this is what she is trying to do. So he is braving it, and trying to let her. Still being affected by this however, leads to the fight at the end of 407. Nancy needs Ace to give her space so she can try to heal. This is understandable. They never really got a chance to really be together so Ace doesn't know how hard it is for her. Nancy had that WHOLE hallucination, multiple days with him, to know what she's trying to walk away from. So, he agrees and leaves her to it which we see Nancy crying because yes, that still hurts.
Then, Nancy texts the whole group that she needs help and to meet at the Claw ASAP. Despite everything, Ace still shows up because she needs help, and she tells him this. Ace still showing up knocks her a bit because yes she still wants the space, but it means a lot to her.
Spending the day in each other's bodies doesn't help either. But this was the turning point. They had to work together, and be together for the day and that really proved to them that they are better together, whether they like it or not. Cut to the end of the episode when Nancy tells Ace to go be with his dad. There was a LOT that was loaded in to that speech. She was talking about making memories with his dad and still being able to because she lost Kate, but she was also talking about them. "All that's left are memories. That's all you're really left with...just messy, stupid memories that stick around..." She's still remembering him. And I think Ace caught that meaning too. There is so much they can say to each other without actually saying it and this is one of those moments.
After Ace goes fishing with his dad, he realizes that he can't stay apart from her. Now for the phone call:
Again, this is the turning point. Ace told Nancy that he is a better person with her in his life. Nancy admitted that she wasn't happy without him in hers.
However, before this, Ace still tells Nancy, again, that it still hurts to be her friend right now. Why? Because he still loves her. You don't get over that that quickly and Nancy knows she still loves him. There was something in that pause from Ace where you knew he wanted to say more but held himself back. This is where it takes a turn.
The next couple of episodes their whole relationship seems to change. Nancy is freaking out about saving Tristan, which understandable, but something seemed really off.
In 409, we hear that Tristan has been trying to ask Nancy out for a bit... a few days, but she doesn't answer him because she doesn't know if this is what she wants. After she shoots him and they are trying to save him in 410, that's where it hit me that something is wrong. She refers to Ace as her ex and tells Tristan she just got out of a relationship, which isn't entirely wrong, but they way she's explaining it doesn't sound right.
One line got me...."Sure, call my ex to help the guy I like". Why would she not want Nick to call Ace? He's been helping her this whole time and he still helped when she got stuck. So why now?
Here is my theory........After we find out at the end of 410 that Nancy was the last sinner, this whole couple of episodes makes more sense.
Why all of a sudden, Tristan is now a "maybe" thing. Nancy altered her memories of her feelings for Ace, in turn altering his. I don't know if anything happened, but after that phone call, the only way they are going to move on is if those feelings for each other are gone. They can't be happy and still be friends. This was the only sure way.
Nancy doesn't want Ace to hurt anymore and she doesn't want to hurt either. But she doesn't NOT want him in her life. Hence, going to the black door.
If this winds up being right, WOW! this would be a great twist and I would love to see where this brings them!
I have absolute faith in the writers and know we are getting our endgame, so BRING IT ON.
as Kennedy says, "Ride the wave, baby!"
sorry for the rant!

As your not a big fan of fantasy books in general. What drew you into loving asoiaf? What got you hooked?
now that I'm invested in asoiaf I do genuinely like the fantasy elements of the story, but the stuff that really pulled me in was the human drama and political intrigue etc. I love the character work, almost all of the POVs feel fully realised and subvert typical tropes in really interesting ways (imo). I like the inter-generational drama (the reasons I like succession are v similar to the reasons I like the Lannisters), like if I want to understand Jaime and Cersei and Tyrion I can look to Tywin, and if I want to understand Tywin I can look to Tytos, and if I was to understand Tytos I can look to Gerold, like it's a russian doll of intergenerational trauma what more could a girl want.
and on that note I really like the scope! GRRM obviously feels this need to account for all details minor and major, so that even with everything that's already on the page there's room to extrapolate so much more. i mean here I am writing who knows how many words about a fake 20-episode long robert's rebellion tv series lol like this all happened before the series even starts and yet I hardly need to make anything up bc there is so much to draw on just based on all the random little details we've got here and there from characters reflecting on the same events from different angles, and trying to piece together portraits of the people who died based on the recollections of those on the page who remember them..... it is so fun)
and yeah usually I prefer to read about that kind of thing on a smaller scale but the drama that plays out in AGOT is so engaging that upon initiation I didn't find it so much of a chore to keep track of all the various houses and lands etc in order to understand the full implications of each thing that happened - it felt like it was worth the effort. generally it's the 'keeping track' of it all that I find grating about fantasy bc I really want to just get on with the story rather than keep on top of a hundred magic systems and sub-species of pixie.
and obvs asoiaf is low fantasy rather than high fantasy, i.e. there aren't intricate systems to the magic and or complicated genus for each of the creatures, so that made it feel a lot more accessible for me as someone who just isn't very interested in those kinds of details. Dany's magic is made up as she goes along, it's never explained, and that's the same for pretty much all the fantastical elements - it's very show don't tell. and even though when you count it all up there are quite a lot of fantastical features and subplots, taken together with the rest of the story it's more like.... seasonings I wouldn't usually choose but ended up liking just fine in this overall dish lol
and finally asoiaf just really appealed to me from a fannish perspective! I really hate when you're trying to dig deeper with a work and you quickly start to realise that the writer(s) just weren't thinking that hard. it feels like striking concrete with a spade, like it's a one-sided conversation rather than something both the writer and the reader are participating in. I think some fans are perfectly fine with that and good for them - who cares if the author built the work to sustain your analysis if you're just having fun doing it - but for me it's a complete killjoy, I end up v frustrated and like the work isn't worth my time
so here's GRRM who is so fixated on the finer details that he's churned out a history book like 700 pages long and a bunch of short stories and also another history book just to add a bit more texture to the main story. and I don't have to worry about network input or co-writers or actors' intentions or whatever other external conflict or influence cos for better or worse it's all his story. and that just suits me better lol, it's one guy and his shitty computer, and me reading the shit he wrote with it. pure and simple living in the moment no phones in sight
also jaime and brienne are everything to me xo

Well -- I think a lot of us on the internet were and are concerned about PerthChimon's chemistry. But there's a lot going on for Dangerous Romance, episode 1, that has gotten me HOOKED besides and beyond that chemistry issue, and I think what I saw today has got me at least less worried, if not intrigued, for reasons down below.
Firstly: we smell SOTUS on this show's breath, right? In a lot of ways, which I'll talk about below. I like the sinister turn that bullying and hazing has taken here -- weird to say that I like it, not by what's actually depicted, but by how it's been updated by its source inspiration in SOTUS and how the bullying is being leveraged so far as a storyline. As I'm always looking at teams behind shows for the Old GMMTV Challenge, I am noting that one of the directors of this show is Lit Phadung -- the screenwriter and director of SOTUS and SOTUS S. Despite the KristSingto chemistry issues of that franchise, Lit actually told a decent story in SOTUS, and an actually kind-of-compelling story of growth in SOTUS S and Our Skyy x SOTUS. So what we have in Lit is: a director who knows how to balance titchy issues of hazing along with actors with developing chemistry. Dangerous Romance is starting out FAR stronger than SOTUS, which is good for him, and which I'll get into more in a second.
One more note about the show's team. We got two of my favorite writers on the screenplay in Bee Pongsate and Pratchaya Thavornthummarut -- Bad Buddy, A Tale of Thousand Stars, etc. Big shit shows. I've talked with @chickenstrangers about this before, particularly in the context of when Bee and Pratchaya co-wrote 2gether -- when Bee and Pratchaya write together WITHOUT Backaof Noppharnach and Au Kornprom on their squad, the stories can get a little looser and messier. So I'm keeping my eye out for this. (Bee and Pratchaya wrote Vice Versa without P'Aof and Au, and... I know people have feelings about VV.) Anyway! Let's keep sharp eyes out for the writing.
I like where the screenplay is headed -- a battle of wits, enemies-to-lovers (ETL). I agree with @lurkingshan when she shared with me that ETL will need sexual tension.
Alright, so. On this. First off, this is my first show where I'm seeing Chimon in a starring role. I wrote to @neuroticbookworm and @lurkingshan as I was watching this: I WAS SURPRISED BY THE SASS LEVEL. Chimon's sashaying into this.
(Sailom: "Do you want to be my heroin(e)?" Welcome back, kinda, Kongpob, WITH SASS, SMARTS, and a hella survival streak.)
Secondly: these dudes are so young that they could be my children, but let me note that both Perth and Chimon are now YEARS-LONG veterans at GMMTV. Sure, they're wearing those damn high school uniforms again, but when they workshop, they have that many more years behind them to know what they're doing and what they need to achieve. I know there were some quibbles about Gawin Caskey's and Krist Perawat's chemistry in Be My Favorite, and I wonder if we might run into a similar issue here with DR. But that being said: what I appreciated about Gawin and Krist is that they had clearly workshopped the hell out of their partnership, with Krist really making strides beyond his early days with Singto in SOTUS (oh, the cringe). I ended up really loving GawinKrist together, and I think they managed Krist's character's slight aversion to sexual tension well within their pairing.
I don't smell cringe here with Dangerous Romance. I smell risk-taking. Perth = leather daddy? I'll fucking take it. And Chimon is grabbing faces and playing with fire against the big boy of school. I can't find the post (darn it! I will cite it when I find it!), but someone wrote that Sailom KNOWS he's smarter than Kang, and is willing to take risks to exploit that against Kang, and I am here for it. A battle of wits and wills.
I have my hopes seriously up that Perth and Chimon know what they need to do to make this GOOD. I think both of them have it in them to know what to do to make this ship not just successful, but dramatically compelling. I hope the screenplay can hold up to not eff it up. (I should have said this earlier, but I have NOT seen Never Let Me Go, and I understand that NLMG left folks feeling underwhelmed about PerthChimon. I am not tainted, so I will hold optimism for myself and anyone else who wants me to hold it for them!)
Other passing thoughts: I LOVE VIEW. I CANNOT WAIT FOR VIEW TO HAVE A STARRING ROLE! Her and Perth on screen together?! STRENGTH.
Euro is excellent -- I understand his turn in My Precious was great, too. Good to see you again, Marc Pahun. Let's see if Pawin can get a role that's not just being a high school side-buddy. I'm interested in Kang's daddy issues. I want to know what happened to Kang's mom. Papang as a potentially unethical doctor? Oh yeeeaaah.
HOPES ARE HIGH, FRIENDS! This was a banger of a first episode. I'm hanging a lot on PerthChimon succeeding -- I REALLY like what GMMTV is doing to mix ships up. More, more, more!

As much as I’ve made peace on Year of Hell just being a two-parter (and I don’t think the characterizations are all lost because the characters still pick up relationships and the characterizations from Year of Hell) but stumbling on what could’ve been for season 4, for a Year of Hell season sounds so intriguing. It really would have moved Voyager from good to greatness of what DS9 was. As we all know, Rick Berman really is the villain of the Trek stories.
The writers of Voyager wanted to go bigger, they wanted to swing for the fences, from TrekMovie.com:
The podcasters and Fuller acknowledged that eventually Voyager found its voice and delved into some high-concept science fiction ideas. Fuller gave a lot of credit to showrunner Brannon Braga and Braga’s writing partner Joe Menosky, while pointing out their struggles with Voyager co-creator and executive producer Rick Berman:
Brannon Braga should be given a lot of credit – Brannon Braga and Joe Menosky – and it really was their two voices more commonly than anybody else’s. I think what was interesting in the evolution of the show was you could sense the creative struggle. I witnessed the creative struggle when I was working there. There was an appetite for these bigger, bolder science fiction stories. And there was a lot of resistance from Rick Berman in embracing them because he was chasing The Next Generation and was not allowing Voyager to be the show that it could be.
But the one I am really interested in, what
Year of Hell could have been
Bryan Fuller: The “Year of Hell” and the behind-the-scenes drama not only to craft episode, but that season, was fascinating because we wanted “Year of Hell” to last the entire season. We wanted to see Voyager get its ass kicked every episode and through that season was going to be marbled the story of Annorax and the time ship that was changing things. So, we would go back to it every once in a while to remind the audience that is the larger story. But [it was rejected] because Deep Space Nine made Rick Berman allergic to serialized storytelling, violently so.
We are really going to be on the outskirts of the galaxy and we are going to be fighting enemies that are kicking us when we are down. The crew is going to have to separate and we are going to be following episodes that are going to deal with people on shuttlecrafts with escape pods that are electrically buoyed together. There would be an episode where you never saw Janeway and never saw Voyager because you are with the people who are on the escape pods trying to find a new source of power or safety. It was like creative crack for the writers’ room, because all of a sudden there were so many opportunities.
I remember Brannon going over to Rick’s office with all of this enthusiasm and coming back broken and his head hanging low and having to break it to the writing staff. We all felt like we were doing it, we are making great Star Trek. For him to come back and say we can’t and we can only do two episodes as opposed to twenty-two, it was heartbreaking. There was an interesting division between what Rick Berman wanted the show to be, which was episodic and for the syndicated audience, and how we wanted to be creative storytellers playing with the Star Trek toy box. “Year of Hell” is such a fascinating point in Voyager history.
Tumblr media
This was the part where I had goosebumps:
The crew is going to have to separate and we are going to be following episodes that are going to deal with people on shuttlecrafts with escape pods that are electrically buoyed together. There would be an episode where you never saw Janeway and never saw Voyager because you are with the people who are on the escape pods trying to find a new source of power or safety.
Because one of the more affecting parts of Year of Hell, part 1 was when Janeway was saying goodbye and then telling them that they will see each other again, and the escape pods started jettisoning. My imagination ran wild, I wanted to follow the rest of the crew as they struggled through the year of hell, in Krenim space, that’s constantly shifting in time, trying to survive. And Janeway and the rest of the senior staff finding the rest of her crew. Finding most and failing, maybe, on finding the others in time. It really was fertile ground.
It’s almost comical how much of a Disney villain Berman was just crushing the spirit out of the Voyager’s writer’s room. IMO, this room was the most disheartened group of writers in the whole of 90s Trek. Because they were ready and willing to go the extra mile but Berman was there to swat them down because they could.
And because, it seems, after Piller and Jeri Taylor left, Brennan Braga was too green to butt heads with Berman.
DS9 had Ira Stephen Behr, who wasn’t afraid to go against Berman, as the article goes, the podcast hosts asked Fuller why and how DS9 got away with serialized storytelling:
Bryan Fuller: Ira was like, “I don’t care, this is what we are doing and if you don’t like what we are doing, fire me… If you are not behind it, then I suggest you find someone else to do my job.” He was kind of fearless about it. He was righteous creatively and knew that this was the right direction for Deep Space Nine.
Anyway, this is why I love learning about the Behind the Scenes of shows because it gives context of why and how stories were released the way it did. And it gave Voyager more texture of what it could have been, hampered creatively both by Network and by an Executive Producer who had no imagination.

I get a base, primal satisfaction from actually just doing something, no matter how insignificant.
Tumblr media
From spring until late fall, when winter weather drives me indoors to the treadmill, I spend 20 minutes each morning after my run around the Back Cove in Portland, Maine, walking the shoreline, picking up garbage. Every day is Groundhog Day — I gather plastic cups, syringes, food containers and cigarette butts the same as the morning before, and the same as the morning before that.I should almost certainly feel despair battling the daily fallout as late capitalism enters hospice care. But instead I get a base, primal satisfaction from actually just doing something, no matter how insignificant. We’ve forgotten, maybe, as the virtual world has slowly co-opted our lives, that we are meant by nature to move through and manipulate, to lift and carry and sort and transfer. Simple acts, I’ve found, have an outsized effect on the worrying over abstractions that otherwise takes up so much of my time. [...]
The satisfaction I get from this habit is not uncomplicated. Sometimes I take paradoxical pleasure in getting dirty with other people’s trash, and other times the surprise dollop of last night’s honey mustard sauce on my shoe is enough to send me directly over the edge.
But the daily practice has taught me to be on guard against my own vanity — to notice and discard the smug feeling that sometimes arises when I see others enjoying the cove but doing nothing about how blighted it is. Instead I am confronted each day with my own fallibility, tininess and hypocrisy (as just one more trash ape among billions, I contribute to the problem simply by existing). And instead of puffing myself up, I check myself and reach for more garbage. [...]
I go and gather garbage by myself most days. And occasionally something will occur that happily disproves my dim view of humanity. People will notice me, and wonder what I’m doing all sweaty and breathless down there among the marsh grass and the rocks. I present an intriguing enough figure for them to stop, in the midst of their preoccupations with the day, and take the time to discern what I’m up to. And when they figure out that I am, in fact, picking up garbage, sometimes — not often, but occasionally — they’ll come and join me. We’ll chat or, more likely, we won’t do much other than exchange hellos, or simply nod. Just a couple of strangers doing something small and futile together, for no other reason than that it’s right. The kind of modest, workaday miracle that feels like it could, with any luck, lead to something bigger. It seems near all but certain that we are, as a species, too shortsighted and distractible, too enamored of dividend checks and retail therapy, to really turn this ship around. But, then, despair and idealism are two sides of the same cop-out, and I’ve indulged in both more than enough in my time. So I’ll keep splitting the difference, keep picking up trash — and keep hoping that simply setting an example can be meaningful.
— Ron Currie, Jr., excerpts from "This is What Keep My Eco-Anxiety in Check" (NY Times, October 23, 2023). Ron Currie Jr. is the author of the novel “The One-Eyed Man” and a writer for film and television, most recently for the series “Extrapolations.

20 13 fanfic questions
Thanks to @randomfoggytiger for the tag. I didn’t do all of them, just the pertinent ones, and I modified those just to include ffnet as well.
1. How many works do you have? 26 on AO3 (for my mature rated Spy Castle stuff); fanfiction.net has 278 Castle fics;and about 300ish archived at Gossamer for X-Files.
4. What are your top fics by kudos/reviews? The Return of Vulcan Simmons, Tempest (not a spy work!) on AO3; ffnet would be One Hundred Days of Summer (co-authored with SandianeCarter) and Dash It All.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yeah, I think if you take the time to contact me, you deserve the respect of hearing from me. It might not be a full-blown conversation, but I’ll do what I can with a full-time profession and a writing one as well. Also, suuuuper sorry, just discovered AO3 has an inbox. 300 days ago, some of you messaged me and I am just now seeing those. Lol.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I have a spy fic where the two of them are just so at odds, so grieving with and over each other… okay that’s most of them. But I try not to end on angst, as it’s supposed to be the journey not the destination. (Angst is a twisting of the heart, not a place where you stay. According to me.)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Dash series has the ‘happiest’ endings. Not because life is happy, but because they figured out how to create contentment within what they’d been given/dealt in life. And in ways other versions of the Castle characters hadn’t accomplished. They did the work.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Oh definitely. A while back, I turned off comments on tumblr for about a year as I processed and healed from some targeted attacks, and I can say that I came out more certain of myself and my writing. But I was also an adult who had not been forced to weather these attacks as a vulnerable 13 y-o on social media (as so many of you are unfortunately dealing with). I was able to detach, center myself once more, and rise above because I’d grown up IRL, so to speak. I have a faith in something bigger than me which, while it doesn’t look like what it did, has sustained me and given me the confidence to know my worth even as it spurs me to be/do better.
9. Do you write smut. If so what kind? Oh definitely, lol. It’s on AO3. Usually I like to explore M/F with a third in there for kicks, as the concept of generosity and giving within the sexual relationship/experience is intriguing to me.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I objected to the term ‘stolen.’ I’ve had my fics, without my knowledge, posted elsewhere, translated without my knowledge, and changed to other fandom characters to be posted elsewhere. However! I’ve had loads of people ask me too, and I really appreciate being able to go visit them. (Stolen would indicate I somehow own these fanfictions, and I do not, as that would be a legally difficult hill to stand on. I also do not perceive collective fan art in this manner, because the world is all of ours.)
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? Oh there’s a co-written story that me, carto, and muppet47 started and have NEVER finished. We all know Castle has to go to jail, but we can’t write it.
16. What are your writing strengths? Writing it the first time. Correctly. As in, it comes out the way it should or ought to or how I am seeing it in the moment. I have the right rhythm, I can spell and I have the grammar skills. My first draft is fast and good enough for submission. Of course, I go back and edit, and I have to, but I’m very blessed in not ever going through anything like writer’s block.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Secondary characters. I have a tendency for tunnel vision, where all I want to do is talk about and to and for the main characters. If they have friends or family, I barely include them. I can’t manage to care that they exist. But all of us live in a complex web of relationships and community; no one is alone. My last novel, Taste of Salt, was an concentrated effort to include as many other perspectives as possible, so it was told through the POVs of the two main characters and interspersed with flashback chapters from the POVs of their friends, family, coworkers, chance encounters, medical personnel, kids, support networks… there you go.You have to do the thing that’s hard. Write it out, over and over, keep practicing.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? Yeah, sometimes it becomes necessary for the character. But please keep it to a minimum (imo) as it detracts from the reader’s understanding and experience of reading. It ought to be rather easy to understand what the person is saying due to context or just the flow of the scene. If you’re writing in English, and you have a character visiting France, then obviously some of that ought to be in French, but after a while, you can indicate that the language is being used while writing it in English. I say this because most of you are fandom writers who are not writing for literary audiences; therefore, don’t ruin everyone’s fun my making it incomprehensible or inaccessible. Please.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written? Don’t ask me to choose between my children! I can tell you that Dash holds a special place in my heart due to the amount of readers who said it gave them understanding of their own sensory issues or their child’s autism, etc. Spy gave me one of my greatest friends, carto, who continues to love and support me and my writing.
I won't tag anyone, because I deleted so many of these questions, but feel free to answer or share or talk with me about them!

20 questions for fic writers
Tagged by the lovelies @ettelene and @tilion-writes, many thanks! Sorry for the late response, been busy with real life commitments.
1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 10
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 38,319 words
3. What fandoms do you write for? Currently, Silmarillion and MDZS/The Untamed, though I haven't posted anything yet for the latter.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Fëanor posts on r/amitheasshole
Capodopera
Family Dinner
Immortal Longings
uprooting
5. Do you respond to comments? Yes, always! And I ramble a lot.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Hm. I write quite a bit of angst, and I can think of at least three fics of mine with sad endings, but I think Cardinal takes the cake. It's a bleak end, miserable, made even more so by the relative tenderness of the main story.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably Fëanor posts on r/amitheasshole, because it's crack. Nobody dies; is that the low bar for a happy ending in the silm fandom?
8. Do you get hate on fics? So far none, but I expect to get some in the future as I want to write about darker themes. And I'm mentally preparing for posting in a new fandom that's known for its toxicity.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes, and I plan on writing more! I love shipfic, I love romance, this is the main genre I read in fanfic, so. If I had to classify my style of smut, I'd say it veers into porn with feelings territory. The main sentiment behind my writing, behind all my writing, smutty or not, is yearning. What intrigues me is what the characters are feeling, their thought process, building the tension and portraying their dynamic. I don't think I can write smut just for the sake of smut - and there are so many facets of the characters' personalities that can be explored through their kinks, their bedroom attitude, their emotions and insecurities. Also, I write slash, though I'd like to try my hand at femslash as well.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? No, but I've thought about it. The logistic aspect of it ruins the fun, unfortunately.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? No.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not yet.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Not sure if they can be considered "all-time" favourites since I got into fandom less than a year ago, but the ships I'm completely obsessed with are Curufin/Finrod for the silm fandom and Jiang Cheng/Wei Wuxian for mdzs/cql.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My Curufinrod in Valinor fic that I talked about on here. It's a long project and I'm used to writing one-shots, so I keep telling myself I'd work on it and post it once it's finished. Not sure when or if that will happen.
16. What are your writing strengths? Story concepts, comedic timing, eliciting emotions. Prose if I'm feeling confident.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I am always obsessing over sentence structure, conveying tone, and word choice. English not being my native language doesn't help either. Technicalities aside, probably dialogue and longer story arcs.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Ambivalent.
19. First fandom you wrote for? The Silmarillion! Best fandom.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? The second chapter of Capodopera (which is composed of two mirroring one-shots). I think I managed to write precisely the story that I set out to; I'm pleased with everything about it, from the prose to the characterisation, to the escalation and the power shift, to the smut scene. And it doesn't hurt that it's the most self-indulgent thing I've written for my silm otp.
I'd like to tag two of my favourite writers @crackinthecup and @tobermoriansass, I'd be super curious to read your answers!

The Lottery and other stories by Shirley Jackson
I savoured this short story collection in small bites during the last month and I am finally done with it. I had already read a few stories included in the edition that my friend kindly got me at Shakespeare & co. There were ups and downs in this book for me personally. Overall I would say that I was reminded of how Shirley Jackson is able to instill a very specific kind of anxiety, which is insane. It's always that feeling that you have no control over mundane things, that people around you are somewhat plotting against you, that somehow everyone knows something you don't. On paper it sounds like something that should trigger me way more than it actually does when I am reading her stuff, which just tells you how good of a writer she is. I will not talk about all the stories, I would inevitably end up spoiling them which is not the goal her so here's a little list in no particular order of the ones I liked the most: The Lottery, The Witch, Nightmare, Journey With a Lady, The Order Of Charlotte's Going, The Very Stange House Next Door. The other stories in the collection didn't do much for me, but I understand it's pretty personal. What I can overall say about this author is that her writing is impeccable. She has a very distinct style that you can see from page one of anything you might pick up by her. I never read anything quite like hers and I am really intrigued to read more since I have only read two of her most famous novels.
I read this for the horror prompt in the 2023 genre bingo.

Only Friends Backstories and Secrets
I don't do this usually but this show is making me insane so here it is, an Only Friends Theory.
My personal theory is that every main character (not sure if this applies to our lesbians yet, too early too tell) has 1 solo backstory detail and at least 1 or 2 relationship backstory detail to uncover. We already know some of them, but some are still a mystery. I have some theories. The biggest is the Mew-Boston one.
I'll go in order
Top
Solo Backstory = Childhood trauma (almost died in a fire) + Insomnia (Can't sleep alone) + Possible drug problem??
Top-Boston = They fucked once, obviously
Top-Sand = This one is still a mystery but there is something there, drug delear? Ex hook-up? Top hired used to hire him to sleep with him (like in the same bed not for sex - or for sex we don't know). For now there is too many possibilities.
Mew
Solo Backstory = I have no idea, but there is something. There is a dark spark in that man eyes, I don't know what it means, but it's there.
Mew-Boston = Leaving my theory for Boston Section.
Not sure tbh maybe Mew-Ray = How they meet? Why does Ray love him?
Ray
Solo Backstory = His mom died, at first I thought it was suicide, but after reading @bengiyo stray thoughts I realized it was probably alchool poising.
This one is another sure. Mew-Ray probably (see above). Maybe also with Boston, they have not intereacted directly or alone yet, idk.
Sand
Solo Backstory = Based on the writer twitter response on the car accident theory my best guess is that someone he loved was in car accident because they were either drunk driving themeself or hit by a drunk driver.
Sand-Nick = When did they meet? Why? Are they university friends? Please tell me someone else is intrigued by how First and Mark played that scene, it literally sent sparks in my brain. I want to see more of them.
Sand-Top = Like stated above in Top section, there is definately something going on there. They do not like each other.
Nick
Solo Backstory = Something involving his parents, I think Nick lied about that store being a family business. I think he was living in a hole of an appartment because he was kicked out by his parents. Also is the Camboy theory correct? Is he one already or he is going to become one?
Nick-Sand = GIVE ME MOREEEEEEE!!!!!!
Nick-Top = Maybe, if Nick and Sand are friends he might have around when that thing between Sand and Top went down, and in the preview we saw him look at that picture with Boston and Top. Maybe it's not just jealousy but recognition on his face.
BONUS = Was anyone else reminded of Together With Me Side couple?? I had to look up the names: Farm and Bright the older Player Doctor and The University Student. Farm was an innocent boy and ended the series heartbroken and becoming just like the player and the player ended up lonely and regretting it. (We will ignore s2 for this parrallel).
Boston
This is my biggest theory section. It ties a bit into the Together with Me idea and with Parrelles in general.
Solo Backstory (+ possible reasons he seems particulary weird about Mew) = I am not sure if Jojo did something like this before because my memory sucks, but Boston could be the kind of character that had a bad expierience with sex and a realtionship and that turn into only wanting sex and thinking he is only good for sex.
What if he was someone's Nick? What if Mew and Boston knew each other first, either in High School or first year of University. What if they both liked the same boy. And they were both young and inexpierienced. What if that boy tried to get with Mew first. But Mew didn't sleep with him. And what if that boy then went to Boston. Young, wide-eyes Boston who fell for it. What if they had a sex relationship, it went on for months. What if that boy asked for sexual things, more and more, I am reminded of that Together with Me scene with Doctor Bright almost convincing Farm to an orgy and him leaving (at least I think he left before it could start). What if it was something like that except Boston didn't leave.
And then what if after all of it, the boy dumped him. Because well he couldn't bring Boston to his parents could he? He is a slut now? A sex thing, not boyfriend material, too easy. What if he compared him to Mew something like "Now your friend Mew, he is the kind of guy would make a great boyfriend, he has his virtue intact"
For now it's just a theory, something to explain Boston obsession with Mew's virginity and that wanting to basically win Top over Mew. I also love the idea of Boston being someone's Nick before and that Together With Me parrallel would not leave my brain. Anyway that's it.
