(another) Thing that annoys me about the Cap movies:
We never got to see the scene where Steve & Co found out about the torture and mind-control used on Bucky.
Because that should’ve been super important!
It would have vindicated Steve’s faith in him, proved Bucky’s victimhood and innocence, and turned Nat and Sam 100% around on whether or not Bucky was worth helping (whether or not it was worth them apparently wasting years of their lives helping Steve to find him).
They’re supposed to have been:
A) hunting down the remains of Hydra for years,
B) familiarising themselves with all the Hydra info Nat dumped at the end of of CATWS, and
C) hunting for Bucky-related information specifically amongst all that.
Meaning they absolutely cannot have avoided finding, for example, all the places Bucky was tortured in, the specialised enhanced torture equipment (impossible to mistake for that used on a non-supersoldier), cells he was held in, all the specialised physical restraints, tailored for an enhanced person with a cyborg arm, documentation of his torture, witness testimony from surviving Hydra mooks at the Triskelion, etc., and seeing it firsthand.
And for some of that time, they know Hydra had access to a magic mind-control stick, courtesy of Loki, and an enhanced person who can control minds (Wanda).
So even if Steve didn’t find evidence of Bucky’s mind-control early on in his search, he and Natasha definitely do know that mind-control is possible (especially Natasha, given her roots in the Red Room and the fact that her bff was mind-controlled.)
Even if you ignored Nat and Sam’s personal backstories, which preclude both of them from being dismissive of a victim (a veteran who suffered a fall, a mind-controlled Russian ‘assassin’), it doesn’t make sense for Nat and Sam to still be trying to suggest Steve step back from helping Bucky, the way they do in CW.
They cannot still be ignorant of what was done to Bucky, when they have been specifically investigating what was done to Bucky, and all that information has to have been impossible for them to avoid!
Instead of which, the movie just skips right over the reveal to Steve and Sam of the mind control (going straight from ‘scene of mind-control’ to ‘scene of Steve being skeptical (which he shouldn’t and wouldn’t be)’ to ‘scene of talking about trigger words already’). Casually implying that either Steve and Sam already knew about it, or that Bucky has just explained it to them...
But only off-camera.
And yet, Sam is still salty and scornful of Bucky’s innocence (even when they have just seen mind-control happening, Bucky is suffering amnesia of WS acts in front of him, apparently just told him about mind-control, and then proves that he has his pre-war memories).
So they imply the content of skipped scenes but then have characters act in ways that are... irrational, given the skipped content??
Makes no damn sense!

was talking about who swears the most out of the gaang in the discord and came up with a tierlist. these are all right. ranked by 1 being who swears the most
1 - aang. he says a lot of nick censored swears in the show (monkeyfeathers) and also i just don't think the air nomads would care much about that sort of thing? aang travelled a lot so he definitely picked up a lot of swears and even if he got scolded by other monks gyatso would be like lol idc
2. toph, except she can't use them right. she's from nobility so swears were never used bc it was "too common" but she picked up a bunch from the earth rumble rings but doesn't know how to use ANY of them. she just throws them in every sentence like they're adjectives
3. suki - she just doesn't give enough of a fuck to swear. she's the leader of the kyoshi warriors she needs to set an EXAMPLE but also i think she swears very casually, not out of anger but throws a lot of "fuck" "shits" and "craps" in
4. zuko - i know ppl think he'd be higher bc he lived around sailors but also with the same nobility thing as toph and that when he was around sailors he thought he was "too good" to swear. however, he still slips up a decent amount. the sailor effect is too strong
5. sokka - sokka grew up in the village and i definitely think he knows quite a few from when he was around the men on a hunting trip, probably too loudly asked his dad what something meant during a hunting trip. but after they left, gran-gran threatened to wash his mouth out and he has been too scared to ever since. also he was around little kids a lot so i think he has a handle on his language, but after leaving he gets frustrated a lot and slips up
6. katara - same stuff as sokka, she's heard it from around the village but is too intimated by gran gran to swear and knows how to keep a lid on it. barely slips up UNLESS she's super super angry, see pakku. she definitely called him a dick

I keep rotating certain aspects of the Evontra'vir-Ashton conversation and there's one specific thing I see other people taking away from it that is lacking a certain amount of nuance that stuck with me.
Specifically in regards to Ashton's views and how they parallel his fathers.
It should be obvious to everyone at this point that Ashton's stubborn hypocritical "refusal to the call" rooted in his anti divine/fate beliefs need some genuine reflection. They are important and they are aware of it but they don't want any of the hard to grapple with things associated. He needs to think about what it is he can actually do moving forward rather than getting caught up in what he feels he's owed.
However! One very important thing that I keep seeing others ignore or maybe just not even pick up on is THIS.
Efterin's entitlement came from his own zealots ego. The powers he believed he was promised an understanding and control over were NEVER his.
Ashton's entitlement towards the situation is rooted in what was done TO him. Those powers are in fact his. They have been there since he was a child due to a ritual he had no say in. That ritual physically altered his body and killed off nearly everyone in his entire village.
Which. Again. Just because they HAVE those powers doesn't mean they were ever guaranteed mastery over them. Certainly not without putting in effort. It has never been a "gift", even if part of them wishes it was. There is likely never going to be a reality in which the full-blown titan level abilities just ACTIVATE for him with full ease. Moving forward. He has a base level of info. Which he likely didn't find satisfying (but given the situation, there was never really a "satisfying" answer). Now they need to just. Look forward and inward. Make some changes if they want some changes.
But yeah. At the end of the day. Regardless of parallels and a real need for character reflection and growth. Saying that Ashton is "the same" as Efterin seems. Fairly reductive, all things considered.
