All the fics I’ve read and really enjoyed in the past week-ish. Reminder: This list features any and all ratings and themes. Please look at tags and warnings on ao3 before reading.
Miraculous Ladybug
Open My Eyes by buggachat
Adrien smiles as he eats breakfast with Nathalie, smiles as he walks through the halls of his new lycée, smiles as people stop him on the street and tell him time and time again what a "hero" his father was.
(Adrien wishes he could've been a hero, too. He should've been. Maybe then his father would still be alive.)
(But he's surviving. Everyone may be treating him as though he were made of glass, but he can still go through the motions, he can prove them wrong, he can still smile.)
“And you’re… happy,” Marinette spoke carefully, a nervous tilt to her voice, “... right?”
(Adrien has some things to find out.)

Tim Drake had absolutely no intentions of ever becoming anyone's sugar daddy when he met Superboy.
This would have worked out better for him if Superboy had ever had an actual legal identity or an actual legal guardian or just . . . literally anything whatsoever in life. Ever. At all.
Just a bank account, even.
how big, how blue, how beautiful by merils
Kon-El is not good with medical settings. One could even say he's quite bad with them. How bad, exactly?
Well, let's put it this way: Very few things in the world can make him scream for Superman to save him.
(Superman will save him. That's what family's for, right?)

General Kenobi isn't actually dead. Someone should really tell that to his troopers, though.

Shen Yuan's Forced Shen Qingqiu Redemption Arc by SpicyReyes
The System's OOC function won't unlock all at once - instead, character traits have to be added individually, through quests. This leads to Shen Qingqiu having to jump through endless hoops just to complete enough side quests to unlock the ability to be a decent person - all while avoiding the effects it has on those around him. If only the cheapskate System wouldn't keep changing the cost of point values - he needs to know what the hell Yue Qingyuan told the others about him that makes them all look so sad when he does manage to be nice! He's breaking his back here, can't we just appreciate his work?!
second-hand alibis by nex_et_nox
"All right. I’m in Proud Immortal Demon Way," he says, once he's had a chance to compose himself again. He sits back up, tossing his stupidly long hair back over his shoulders where it belongs; he is totally calm and ready to grill the System for more information.  "Who am I supposed to be?" Please please please don't let it be someone who Bingge violently murders. Though given the fact that he's a man in PIDW, his chances are already skewed, and not in his favor. Ugh. [Bound Role: Shen Yuan, Rogue Cultivator. Weapon: the sword Heng Li. Starting B-points: 100.]
or: Shen Yuan transmigrates as a rogue cultivator, one completely unconnected to any canon characters or events. Right, System? Right?

Part 2 of my Paris special commentary (Part 1 here) because Tumblr is an ass and has a word limit.
Disclaimer: This is long asf.
Marinette here playing 5D chess, queen shit.
The most important thing the special confirmed is that Gabe added the word "dark" to his transformation phrase on purpose cause he's a dramatic bitch.
I am here for Claw Noir mocking Gabe. Go off, king.
"Oh nO, iT WAs aN IlLusIon!" That giggle is adorable. She's so cute.
Ladyfly is an ass name, but she looks so great.
Not Gabe getting annoyed at Claw Noir's teasing. See, now this is why we stan Claw Noir on this blog.
Tumblr media
Gabe's plan isn't half bad, actually.
Symbolism? In my children's cartoon? It's more likely than you think.
Tumblr media
They're having a pun-off.
RIP Chat Noir's ear.
Gabe got feathered lmao
Monarch dipped like a little bitch.
A mirror, I called it. It'll make for some nice symbolism.
"Let alone a calm and gentle mom" I wonder what Sabine is like in their world to make Emonette feel like she's so alone.
I like how they handled the villains tbh. I wasn't a fan of making it seem like Marinette was one step away from becoming a supervillain at all times, but it seems less like that's the case and more like The Supreme took advantage of her suffering and vulnerability at her lowest moments.
It's also nice that they established that Shady and Claw weren't the actual big bads and are just hurt kids who got recruited into a fight they weren't ready for. Their motivation isn't some rehash of Gabriel's, they are literally trying to survive under the rule of someone who will kill them if they don't do his bidding, and because of whom they're dying. Their life is literally full of suffering and they're trying to find something that'll give them a way out. Shady wants Marinette's life, and Claw Noir wants his mother back.
Like, it doesn't excuse their actions, but it does add a more humane element to them that lends itself better to the kind of redemption Miraculous likes to do, which is to fix things with a speech. That's why this redemption works, and Gabe's doesn't.
Anyway.
The back and forth between Chat Noir and Claw Noir was pretty funny ngl.
And we discover that Claw Noir wants his mother back. Of course.
MY POOR BABY
Tumblr media
When Marinette was talking about how she was also angry and hurt, but chose to love herself and the world around her and chose to try and fix it... that hit hard. Honestly, it did. It's everything I love about Marinette in one speech. I love it.
And then onto my personal favorite scene in the entire special, possibly in the entire show.
That whole conversation was powerful. "I'm as well as I can be anyway," that's so profound. Like, of course you aren't going to be 100% okay after losing someone you love, but Adrien wants to move on and be happy like his mother would have wanted him to. This scene really showcases Adrien's empathy and his strength, when he acknowledges that having no friends can make it harder for Claw Noir to move on, and then he tells him that only he can make the choice to stop being alone. And that's really true. This scene really showcases everything amazing about Adrien, his hope and optimism, his empathy and his strength. How he finds the strength to keep going by choosing to not be alone. It's beautiful.
Tumblr media
Like, it could have been so easy for both Marinette and Adrien to give into their darkest impulses, and Shadybug and Claw Noir really are just representations of how letting your hurt overpower you can lead you down a dark path, and it really highlights their strength, that they choose to make the right choices everyday, despite everything. It really highlights their characters and their arcs. And they're able to take everything they've learned, and look at what they could have been in the eyes and help them change too. It's so poetic.
It would have been a little more impactful if the show had spent more than 10 minutes out of 5 seasons focusing on Adrien's grief and how it has impacted him, but whatever.
Anyway, it also had some Adrien and Nino friendship crumbs, and I'll be darned if I didn't gobble it up like a starved animal. Also, we have confirmation that "Space Mutants vs. Ghost Shark" is Nino's favorite movie, so Nino stans please say "thank you Paris special."
And they are REDEEMED.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shadybug fixes everything with her Lucky Charm after spending the whole special making destructive ones. My heart.
Shadybug and Claw Noir stop being evil and immediately go from hating each other's guts to flirting shamelessly. They just speedran enemies to lovers in a matter of seconds. They literally just defaulted to flirting. Truly, the natural state of Ladynoir in any universe. We stan.
Tumblr media
Gotta be honest, I'm not a fan of the new designs. Wish they had kept the old ones. I'm one of those people whose toxic trait is liking Claw Noir's design, so I'm a little unhappy with it, but hey, it's a sweet scene.
Also, Claw Noir's hair went from the color of rotten bananas to ripe bananas. If that was intentional, I applaud the writers for being both profound and funny as hell.
Aaaaaaand Gabe is back, because we can't have nice things.
The montage going through different realities was great, it was small but I enjoyed it.
They're literally so cute omg. Couple behaviors fr. I'm so obsessed with them.
Tumblr media
HUGS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
POUND IT
Tumblr media
They're holding hands... already... like they're in love... I'm so emotional... I WILL NEVER GET OVER THIS
Tumblr media
And they're gone. But their adventures will continue forever in my mind and in my fanfics. And in other people's art that I will ravenously consume.
Cute Alya and Marinette scene. This is really sweet, I love the exploration of the impact Alya has had on Marinette's life.
And now, I'm not an Alyanette shipper, but I think they should kis- oh, wait, never mind, they did it.
And thus, the endless night comes to an end (it happened a while ago but that's just semantics).
Final thoughts
I really loved this so much. Sure, there were some exposition dumps that probably should have happened in the actual series, but that's not the fault of this special. This is probably my bias talking but this is the best special and it's literally perfect, no I will not take any constructive criticism on that. This, this special and everything in it, this is what Miraculous is all about. This is exactly what I wanted, this is what I signed up for. It's literally the best thing ever to come out of this entire show.

Tales of Multibug & Vipercat:
Chloe’s Internship (But Really, Chloe’s Character Arc)
At first, she did not like it when Ladybug said she didn’t get the bee miraculous anymore.
Then, slowly, she began realizing why she didn’t get the miraculous anymore. She was no better than Lila, who she despised. Sure she never lied to make herself look better, but she lied to get what she wanted and to hurt others. It didn’t matter how good she was as Queen Bee (well, it mattered a little), if she wasn’t as good as Chloe how good was she?
So that’s when she found Marinette and apologized. Actually, she apologized to all of them. The ones who didn’t follow Lie-la anyways. She even tried apologizing to Sabrina, but Sabrina wouldn’t listen.
She was the one who came up with the idea for the Superhero PR department. It regulated anything public about the heroes, issued public statements from Multibug and Vipercat, and as the icing on the cake, could override any social media or blog posts (or even whole blogs) and erase them from the internet.
So yes, maybe she did enjoy getting to click the button to take down the LadyBlog.
But beyond that there was a whole world of legal things she was learning, and it was actually really interesting. She advocated for herself to get an internship, and even went through an interview process. (That was when Marinette realized she was serious about making a change.)
At first it was hard balancing that with school (who knew actually applying yourself meant working harder), but she got the hang of it. Surprisingly it was Alix who helped her the most. Because Chloe struggled the most in history (and Alix literally lived in a museum), Alix offered to be her tutor.
All it had taken was one gay joke from Kim for Chloe to realize that she didn’t like Alix like that. Actually, she didn’t like anyone like that. She liked the attention, but even with Adrien she never felt like that before.
Alix was the one who supported her through this discovery, and when she was ready Alix was the one who sat next to her when she told their friends. They were all gathered in Marinette’s room hanging out when she decided it was time.
She had to go to work soon, but she took a breath and spit it out.
Marinette was thrilled. She immediately tackled Chloe in a hug.
“Chill out Nette, it’s not that big.” She scoffed (but was secretly relieved). “Luka get your girlfriend.”
Once Marinette was settled again she smiled and exclaimed, “Chloe it is a big deal! You trust us enough to share with this with us!”
Rose was beaming. “Yeah Chlo! And of course we’re happy! You’re our friend and we love you!!!” Beside her bubbly girlfriend, Juleka nodded in agreement.
That was the first time Chloe felt unconditional love.
The second time was when Marinette invited her over one evening for “no reason.”
“I’m dyeing my hair.” She announced proudly when Chloe entered her room.
Beside her was Juleka, holding an armful of tools. Kagami was there too, and so was Marc and they were painting each others nails.
She raised an eyebrow. “Nette, I could’ve called a stylist.”
Marinette beamed. “Juleka needs practice, she’s trying to get her certificate, and I volunteered to be a practice model.”
“Same!” Marc added from off to the side.
“Don’t look at me I am leaving with my hair the same color as it was when I arrived. I don’t feel like getting on my mom’s nerves right now, I’m in a good mood.” Kagami blew on her wet nail polish.
“Well…Juleka if you need practice I want some blue in my hair. Or black. Or something.”
From behind her bangs Juleka was beaming.
So that they in between putting foils in each others hair that little group had a lot of fun. By the next morning Marinette was doting pink hair at her tips fading out of her already brilliant blue. Marc’s hair had a rainbow peekaboo (Juleka was very proud of her work). True to her word, Kagami’s hair was the same color, but her nails sported an assortment of glitters, chrome powder, and various reds. As for Chloe, her hair…well it was certainly different. Her natural blonde faded into blue, fading into black. She now sported bangs with some pretty well done added layers.
It was a bit of a surprise when she first woke up and hasn’t processed that she had gone through with it, but once she realized she had it was worth it. Juleka had really done a great job.
She got picked up by her driver, but as she headed to work she couldn’t help but smile to herself. Chloe knew she was a work in progress, but she knew she had found the right people to help her on the way.

So I just watched the Miraculous Movie with my beloved @thatspazz and well... I have thoughts.
I am the local "Gabriel deserves better and by that I mean punishment and maybe learn to be a decent person" preacher and before I go on my rant about the movie and the season 5 finale, here is a drawing of Papillon I made after watching the movie as we ranted about the film. If you don't want spoilers, just keep moving after the drawing :)
Tumblr media
Spoilers and Rants below this cut
OK. Before I become the number one hater, I wanna talk about what I liked about both the movie and season 5s finale (Gabriel/Papillon specific). Gabriel's song was awful and I loved it, I am listening to it again ASAP because who let this man be goofy, I love it, I was slapping my friends leg in pure joy, it was so good.
I love the portrayal of Akumatisation in the Movie, even though i resent the butterfly miraculous being called evil, and I genuinely wish we get to see more. Akumatisation is one of my favourite parts of miraculous and I'm kinda mad we didn't get to see more but what we saw in the movie was great.
Gabriel's design in the movie took a little adjusting but I grew to really like it. His papillon design is mostly good, I'm not a massive fan of the mask but it just needed a little tweaking.
In the season 5 finale, monarch was menacing, like actually. I held my breath when he was stalking the mansion whilst marinette was detransformed. And the pure noise of panic I let out when he dragged her out by her leg!? AGH OH MY GOD
The whole fight between Monarch and BugNoire!? Mwah I also want to slam monarch with a piano.
Also, the part where Gabriel has been beaten and he's having a heart to heart with Marinette? All I'm saying is we could've done more with that. IM JUST SAYING!
OK. Negatives.
WHAT THE FUCK!? HUH!? WHO WROTE BOTH PAPILLON ENDINGS!? I MUST SHOOT THEM DEAD!
The season 5 finale let Gabriel get off scot free and it pisses me off. Poor Spazz has sat through so many angry rants about how I would've done his ending. When I told Gabriel I need him to kill himself I DIDNT MEAN LIKE THIS! HE WON! WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE SHOW!? HE LEARNT NOTHING AND GOT OFF SCOT FREE! IM SO MAD ABOUT IT! LIKE WHAT!? YOU SPEND 8 FUCKING YEARS BUILDING UP THIS EVIL TWAT OF A VILLAIN AND LET HIM GET OFF SCOT FREE!? I've only been a fan of the show for a year thanks to Spazz so I have speedran Gabriel's arc and even I'm upset. I've never had a show fuck up a villain so bad I switched sides to his defence.
And now the movie
THE FUCK YOU MEAN THE POWER OF LOVE!? HUH!? WHAT!? WE KNOW THAT GABRIEL IS READY TO FIGHTING GAME JUGGLE HIS SON AS CHAT NOIR SO WHATS STOPPING HIM NOW!? ALSO, NITPICK BUT ITS CLEAR THAT GABRIEL IS TRYING TO BRING BACK HIS WIFE FOR HIMSELF AND NOT FOR ADRIEN BUT IS USING IT AS JUSTIFICATION FOR HIMSELF SO WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT WHOLE "waaaah I'm sorry I was a terrorist and abused you boo womp :("
So, that's both the movie and the show fucking up Gabriel... I really hope the special does Good Gabriel some justice or I will become the next Papillon and become a terrorist.
But yeah, movie sucked dick and this show fucking sucks
Can't wait for season 6 :) (i do actually like this show but it's a love hate relationship)

Wackus I am sCREAMING. you’re the best author but HOW COULD YOUUUUUUU. FELIXXXXXX 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 nooOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I knew something bad was gonna happen to him but tHIS TAKES THE CAKE UGHHHHHHH. I love it and I hate it at the same time. How could you. My poor baby.
AND KAGAMIIII leaving despite it tearing her up inside is exactly why I love this ship so damn much. At the end of the day, feligami will do Whatever it takes for what they think is Right. They might not always agree on what the Right is, but when they dooooo😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 ughhhhhh.
Also on feligami, I loved the little chess bit with them, it felt like a married couple going over their last fight 😂😭 I love how brilliantly they cooperated as soon as kagami was out of lila’s control, how quickly he tossed the miraculous to her and just went with it
I love how Lila used her signature move to motivate Felix - it’s always what she talks back on, threatening people using their loved ones. I mean, I hate her guts. But I love what she did because it’s in-character for her vile ass.
How Felix kept coming back to FIND ADRIEN’S RIINNGGGG UGHHHH I WANNA CRY MY BABY HE WOULNDT STOP UNTIL HE COULDNT 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Also I love how Felix thought of murder bacteria and viruses, you can really see how much he hates Lila and also I think it shows he still doesn’t like killing someone with his own hands so he prefers indirect methods - he really does respect life 😭 (also a super-killer senti-virus sounds absolutely terrifying. Like. He can make it act within seconds. In any way he wants. No cure. No vaccine. The only limit on how badly and quickly Lila suffers is his imagination alone. 😬 )
Also I know I should be more happy about Adrien bette but Felix is my fave okay so now I’m just like. HELLO. PRIORITIES?!?!?!
Dammit all this time I wanted Felix to save Adrien and now I’m like ADRIEN ENOIGH FLIRTING, COME SAVE TOUR BROTHER 😭😭😭
haha it was always going to happen like this! felix's arc can only be complete if he does something completely selfless that goes against his whole toxic self-preservation flaw.
"they might not always agree on what they think is Right" but when they do, they work together to achieve it 🥲 that's what makes me like them too! i seriously enjoy writing them that way, like opponents playing the same game. it makes all their choices for or against each other that much more high stakes!
(yeah felix was ready to violate the geneva codes and commit some biological war crimes. i honestly did want to expand on this more throughout the fic because i think it's really interesting how the peacock could be used in that way! and also ofc felix's mind would go there, ofc it would. but he was satisfied with his gf lighting volpina up.)
dw dw there will be more felix and adrien to come :))) this is their story, and they're nearing the end of their arcs! i do hope you like what i do with them. ty so much for reading it i'm glad you liked it <3

Heard your writing a Miraculous rewrite. I have two questions about it. Is the romance going to be a key part in itand will Chloe be villain?
I wouldn’t even say “writing” right now lol. At the moment, I’m just plotting. Because if I’m doing a rewrite I’m going all in and fixing what canon has wrecked…. Or at least trying to. Atm, I’m literally just at the point of plotting out the lore. Then I can move on to plotting out what will happen in certain “episodes” based on the changes I implement.
In other words, I am nowhere near even writing the first chapter, let alone the entire fic.
THAT BEING SAID, I wouldn’t say the romance is a key part??? I want my fic to focus on growing the characters. I want to improve upon so many things, but I can only do so much. So, I really think I’ll be focusing on Marinette, Adrien, and Fu. Alya, Nino, and some of the kwamis will probably be secondary. Chloe is a tough one for me… I could definitely use my rewrite to give her an ACTUAL redemption arc. But, at the same time, I don’t necessarily know where my rewrite is going to lead me since I’m still in the plotting phase.
So, for Marinette, I want to focus on her being less obsessive of Adrien, more willing to share her burdens, less likely to take on too much at once. I want to build her into a confident character that isn’t afraid to ask for help and ALSO isn’t afraid to say no.
For Adrien: I want to focus on him being less obsessive and possessive of Ladybug, more focused and willing to step up as a hero, less likely to sacrifice himself, blow off LB if he’s mad at her, flirt at inopportune times, and stick his head in the sand about important things (Chloe being a bully, Lila’s lies hurting Marinette, that LB is not trying to replace him by bringing in help if needed, etc).
For Fu: I want him to be actually competent at his job, for one. I want him to INCLUDE Chat with his talks with LB, I want him to be more hands on, I want him to be willing to teach and guide these poor kids he thrust into the lives of heroes. I also want him to admit when he is wrong and that he himself can learn.
Alya: I want her to be an actual good bff to Marinette. Which does not mean putting her in situations with Adrien that she is not ready for. I want her to be there for her friend. I want her to be a GOOD ASPIRING JOURNALIST and use her blog for more than just nearly getting herself killed.
Nino: I want him to be more than just an extension of Alya. I want to explore not only his friendship with Adrien, but also his friendship with Marinette. After all, they’ve known each other for years.
Tikki: I want her to be less pressuring of Marinette. Yes, LB is a lot of responsibility and pressure, but Tikki just seems to press it in more.
Plagg: I want him to be a bit more willing to point out when Adrien is wrong. I love that he is so supportive of him - Adrien needs that in his life - but he also needs to be willing to call Adrien out when he messes up.
Basically, all that adds up to isssss…..
TLDR; the romance isn’t KEY to my planned rewrite, but it will be there. But, if I do my rewrite correctly, the romance won’t be horrible and forced like it is in canon. I have no specific plans for Chloe right now. It could go either way, depending on where I steer my rewrite. I don’t think I’ll get to the point where she is a Hawkmoth level villain, like canon basically made her into though.

i think people are just saying that when someone posts hate about gabriel people get defensive and go all 'let people like what they want!!' but when chloe hate is posted everyone is silent and thats just not fair.
hmm tbh in my experience, it’s been the opposite??? 🤔 i see a lot of defense of chloe, and not much of gabriel. i think that’s exactly how it ought to be… chloe is a bully, but she’s not a monster lol.
the post in question wasn’t talking about gabe hate or chloe hate tho. it was talking about the hate ppl who enjoy gabe content get, and strange lies told about us. the recent trend is that we want gabe to have a redemption arc, but not chloe….????? really, there is a difference between seeing a post saying “i hate gabe and here’s why” and “i hate people who like gabe and here’s some made up shit about why” lol. one is about a fictional character, and the other is about actual living breathing people. it’s not cool.and when chloe fans get the same shit, then that is something to be mad about too. get riled about it, hell yea, i am right there with you.
cos it’s 100% not okay to attack actual people over fictional shit.

I NEED a Fanfic where it’s the final battle against Hawkmoth where it’s just a bunch of akumas with HM standing in the middle of it with his stupid grin.
All the hero’s are on the ground, injured and some of their transformations dropped or have had their miraculous’ taken. They’re all ready to give up.
Ladybug swings in, tired and sluggish making it easy for hawkmoth to grab her and take her earrings (or maybe even just one and she manages to get out of his hold??) before throwing her to the ground.
Everyone holds their breath as they see the back of Ladybug with no transformation, not only trying to see if she’s okay, but trying to figure out who she is (I think this will be better if Alya didn’t know her identity before this).
Chat is absolutely freaking out because he did not want to find out Ladybugs identity by watching her lifeless body be dragged away by paramedics.
Just before Chat is about to try stand up, Ladybug slowly begins to move. She painfully stands and turns, and absolutely everyone loses it.
Of course their everyday Ladybug is the actual Ladybug.
But Marinette isn’t focused on all her classmates gaping, her cold glare is set on Hawkmoth. Everyone watches as she begins to walk to him.
“My name is Marinette Dupain-Cheng. I am the rightful holder of the Ladybug Miraculous and the guardian of the miracle box. I swore to use my power for the greater good, to protect Paris and its citizens from evil. My name is Marinette Dupain-Cheng and I am Ladybug”
She runs and the hero’s all watch for a bit as Marinette and Hawkmoth face each other in hand-to-hand before charging back into battle, some with their transformation and others without.
They eventually win the battle, all of them getting their miraculous back. Ladybugs wondering why Chat Noir looks so heartbroken as they watch Gabriel Agreste being shoved into a cop car.
Later that night, Marinette is back in her room (after a long talk with her parents about her double life) and she hears a tap on her window.
She lets Chat in and they both just look at each other with so much pain before coming together in a hug.
“I’m so so sorry I didn’t tell you, Chaton. I was just so afraid you would be disappointed if you found out who I really was.”
“M’lady, I wouldn’t of been visiting you as Marinette almost every night if I wasn’t in love with her. I love you, all of you.”
He pulls away and tucks a strand of hair behind her ear.
“I think it’s time you know who I am. I need you to know who I am, I need someone right now who understands what I just went through today.”
He’s on the verge of tears, so is she as she just silently nods.
“Claws in”
She stares with wide, glassy eyes and she completely understands. She pulls him up to her bed, letting him get comfortable between her legs. She sits with him all night, running fingers through his hair as he cries into her stomach.
They stay locked in her room for a week, her parents bringing them food as they recover.
When they return to school, all eyes are on them and their interlocked hands but they both walk in with their heads held high and are slowly joined by the rest of the hero’s, even Chloe (SHE DESERVES A REDEMPTION ARC AND TO BE QUEEN BEE)
It’s gonna take awhile for Marinette and Adrien to heal, but they have an awesome team of superhero friends by their side.
PLEASE IF THIS ISNT ALREADY A FANFIC CAN SOMEONE WRITE IT FOR ME IM BEGGING

Ml Meta analysis: Adriens current absents, season 4 structure and theory on whats to come
Here I am back again with my endless rambling.
I'm just as worried for our cat son as everyone else (maybe even more) which is why I tried figuring out for my own sanity why he is so absent currently.
Upfront I wanna warn yall that I wrote this post in one rush this night and therefore had no time to do alot of editing. So things can probably get a bit more messy than usual but I tried to write it clearly, while writing 2 other ml essays as well. This is the one drawback of having so many episodes in such a short time, I have no time to write my posts x3 I had another theory planned for before Optigami airs but I don't think I can manage before tomorrow.
But let's not waste any more time. Grab a snack and here we go:
It's 2am right now but I think I just realized why Adrien/Chat Noir is being sidelined so much recently.
Sure, yes, it'll come into play in the very obviously set up Ladynoir drama later on but what I wanna talk about now is more the structure of how s4 is most likely written in terms of both Marinettes and Adriens side of the story. And then deep dive a little on why I think so.
You see season 4 is now reaping what has been built up from s1-s3, but this also includes that you have to take the time now to properly recreate the new possibilities out of the loose pieces of the broken status quo.
Seriously, season 4 has to handle and reinvent ALOT. The show got now officially announced to have 7 seasons, which is exactly the amount of seasons Astruc said they have story for. I couldnt find the official tweet from Thomas himself but I one from another source:
Tumblr media
And now look take a look at the possible shows structure:
Tumblr media
- s1-s3 was the first status quo and built up everything so now they can pay off after pay off while...
-... S4 is now the transitional season where the old status quo gets left behind as we work towards the new one.
-I have nothing to proof this of course, but in the same sense it would now make sense that s5-s7 where/are planned to play out under the final status quo. If I'm not wrong at first the show was under contract for 5 seasons, which would mean that after the transitional season 4 there was only 1 season of the final status quo for sure. Still, done right it could have been worth the wait. But this isn't where Miraculous will end. The show actually got the 7 seasons the creator wanted and THIS is how I think the long term plan makes the most sense. Nothing all too complicated but still hella effective in its execution.
But now back to our two main characters, because Marinettes and Adriens development are the two aspects that will raise the show to the intense heights of the s5-s7 status quo.
From s1-s3 Marinette was the active player but she was hardly involved with the actual PLOT of the show, since most of the plot and backstory of the show lies directly with the Agreste family. She only started to get her own plot when she literally created a new one by getting involved with the miraculous lore, because the closest Marinette got to the Agreste plot was "The collector".
Adrien in the other hand was always literally right in the middle of the plot but he wasn't enough of an active player to bring us further either.
Season 4 is now going to add the missing parts for both of them and as the very beginning of the season showed us: there are going to do it SEPERATLY.
Tumblr media
This is why "Truth" and "Lies" have been structured the way they are (One Marinette-centric the other Adrien-centric). Yes, Marinette and Adrien are meant to end their story victoriously together, but they are simply not the people they have to be to become such a powerful team. Certain aspects of their journey they have to do... basically disconnected from the other one. The "Miracle Queen" endcard shows it quite nicely as well where they are heading now: away from each other.
Tumblr media
Obviously the season started with Marinette growing into her new guardian status including everything miraculous related, since she is the main lead and because the new ways the episodes can now utilize everything Miraculous need to be established first before we deep dive into the messed up Agreste mystery.
So while I totally agree that it is annoying to get so little Adrien/Chat Noir content currently I also understand the practicality behind it. As I said, before s4 Marinette was the active main character who mostly didn't really have her own plot. So now adding her plot aspect and have her ACTIVELY figure everything needed out means that right now Marinette/Ladybug is the active focus main character who is solving a huge part of her s4 character arc. That simply drowns out Adrien as the currently still mostly-inactive secondary main character who, yes, may be right in the middle of the shows emotional + villain plot/lore/backstory, but that side of the story simply isn't in focus at the moment.
And I gotta say, I'm kinda glad they're doing it this way. Because I'm gonna be honest, when the season starts giving us Adrien/family Agreste episodes like "Lies" and "The collector" (in this case "Gabriel Agreste" for example) again, I don't want the narrative to be forced to spend time with something guardian lore based just because they didn't took their time to do it earlier.
Tumblr media
So, as we see on the s4 episode raster "Gabriel Agreste" is episode 9. Honestly, I expect most of it (especially the ones near the beginning, so ep. 5 included) til that episode to be Marinette based the way everything else til now did (besides Lies obviously and Guilt trip didn't hardcore focus on Marinette/Ladybug either and that's because it's after "Gabriel Agreste") in the spirit of "Truth". It's just the needed set up from Marinettes side of the story and I can live with that.
Because we actually saw the change after "Gabriel Agreste" already in "Guilt trip".
Tumblr media
I don't know why some people pretend like Chat almost cataclysming himself after hearing how guilt-eaten Nino is for Adriens sake isn't a huge indicator that the episodes afterwards will not only acknowledge but also DEAL with Adriens/Chats situation and problems. Remember, we are talking about CHAT NOIR here not Adrien Agreste. The show has always portrayed and acknowledged ADRIENS issues very straight forward and with the proper seriousness (especially when it comes to his family), whereas Chat Noir was often mostly used for comedic purposes with some exceptions of his problems being properly delt with (since Marinette/Ladybug was mostly oblivious to them, since Adrien keeps them hidden so well). But now in "Guilt trip" LADYBUG was confronted head-on with just how much negativity Chat has inside and how quickly and extremely he drowns in it.
Sure, correct, the episode also has his negativity "washed away" rather quickly by Ladybug opening up to him on how important he is to her
Tumblr media
But this is in character for both of them as "Lies" very clearly showed us that the way BOTH OF THEM behave here is where the problem lies. There Ladybug was freaked out after Chat threw his life away once again but quickly accepted Chats very direct avoidance of the confrontation, since he seemed to be alright to her.
Something I also find noteworthy here is that Ladybugs dialog is "Seriously, you need to stop doing this to me!", which is.... a VERY Marinette-centric way of acknowledging the problem.
Tumblr media
It completely shifts the issue away from Adriens extremely alarming self-harmful/suicidal tendencies and instead only calls out how it affects Marinette (whose feelings here are definitely valid, don't get me wrong!). It showcases perfectly how unaware Marinette still is of her partners inner tumult at that point and also parallels how Marinette called Adriens life "perfect" at the beginning of the episode (This is no shade towards Marinette, in general the entirety of "Lies" is about showing us just how harmful Adriens Chat Noir persona actually IS to him so these two moments of her being oblivious to Adriens and Chats immense problems very much fits into that episodes narrative and sets up what's about to come. I still have an entire essay in the making for "Lies" but, guys, it's just getting longer and longer. I suck xD).
So the fact that an episode after "Gabriel Agreste" brings this scenario back, just a little different but ALOT more revealing of Adriens immense problems to his partner, is VERY telling. Besides other things it tells us that this happens at the beginning of the arc that deals with (at least) Chats issues since Ladybug is still way too quickly too ready to accept her partner as "completely fine" again just because Chat makes it seem that way (while some negativity increasing guilt bubbles still to stick to him.).
And yet, others have already pointed it out that Ladybug IS noticing what Chat wanted to do and reacted accordingly...
Tumblr media
she just didn't speak of it the way it is because it overwhelmed her, which calls back to Ladybugs "You have to stop doing this to me!" dialog.( For a great breakdown of her dialog HERE is a link to @flightfoot post)
In "Lies" Marinette was way too stressed by her new guardian role to even consider Chats side of it and therefore only spoke of her own, but in "Guilt trip" she's already past that stressful arc. So here she is immediately able to recognize Chats suicidal action for what it is, come to his (much needed) aid and lift her partners spirit the best she can by emotionally opening up to him (which is something we KNOW is incredibly hart for Marinette).
The difference between her reaction in "Lies" and in "Guilt trip" shows that Marinette has her guardian role already mostly handled and is now mentally able to be there for others again, so the extremely Marinette-centric "Truth"-like episodes are mostly passed. Now the episodes can bring Adrien/Chat Noir more into the game again and even shift to "Lies" - like episodes because MARINETTE can pay more attention to him again and isn't faced with something new, important and overwhelming Miraculous related every step she takes.
And THAT is extremely fair from a narrative standpoint.
---
I really need to stop elaborating so much on these posts because I'm only NOW actually getting to the point of where Adriens journey will disconnect for a while from Ladybugs. Sorry guys.
Okay, to understand where I'm going with this I will have to quickly explain how I always saw Chat Noirs place in the Ladybug+Chat Noir vs Hawkmoth war ever since s1.
Because here is the thing: Adrien wasn't able to truly leave the battle field ONCE since the origins. Marinette was completely out of Hawkmoths and Gabriels reach once she detransformed, which balances out her basically being the personification of the good sides force. And Gabriel literally decided whenever or not the battle is even ACTIVE right now! Besides that he is in complete control of his own actions and environment, which gives him all the necessary time, safety and downtime he needs to act as the personification of the evil sides force.
Marinette and Gabriel always knew when they were safe and off the battle field, but ADRIEN never had that and it left him LITERALLY right in the middle of both Ladybugs and Hawkmoths sides.
You see, because before Adrien became Chat Noir he basically was part of Hawkmoths side just by default. He was born into this family, that's his father and lost mother and everything he knows. Adrien didn't/doesn't even have to KNOW that he is part of Hawkmoths side, he's his son at some level he just IS! And I'm not saying this as anything negative, Adrien coming from Hawkmoths side is literally the reason why he became Chat Noir!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because whereas Gabriel is having the time of his damn life as evil terrorist, created out of tragic and sinister circumstances, ADRIEN on the other hand couldn't handle his families environment and very same circumstances anymore and accepted the role as Paris' hero to escape his heritage for a while.
Keywords being: a WHILE.
Something unique about Adrien I always loved is the fact that he is the villains abused, isolated and overworked SON, who becomes a hero to escape his depressing life and YET it was never Adriens intention to LEAVE IT. Adrien merely wanted to use his time as Chat Noir to let of some steam and breath freely while doing some hero work so he can go back into his civilian life and try to one day successfully ment his broken family. He couldn't handle the current situation anymore but he still always saw worth in his family/father. I have SO MUCH respect for that!
But him not intending to leave his family and instead regaining strength as Chat Noir to continue to hold onto it came with the downside of him not being able to fully become part of the good sides people/force either. Hence why Adriens/Chats place always felt so lost in comparison to Ladybugs and Hawkmoths clear positions. He's caught in between their extremes trying to balance out BOTH at the same time. What an impossible task!
So he couldn't put in the same focus as Ladybug into being the good sides force because he is literally burned out from his civilian life on Hawkmoths evil side. But he also couldn't be involved as an ACTIVE member of his fathers evil force, because he chose to find refuge in his friends and as a hero on Ladybugs side.
Adrien unknowingly is part of BOTH the shows two extreme moral sides of good and evil and this season we will see Adrien/Chat Noir grow into his own within BOTH sides as well.
Because he simply couldn't have done so right away in s1. Now after 3 seasons Chat Noir is more than solidly established as one of Paris Heros and his time with Ladybug, the other heros and his normal friends helped him greatly to find his place on the good side. "Lies" set this up as Chat Noirs arcs starting point that now he has to stop connecting "being heroic" strictly with following Ladybug (as Marinette is the STAND IN personification for the good side, she's still a flawed human being like everyone else and not the ultimate force of perfect and good. Big difference.) just as he has to start looking past his fathers sympathetic moments/qualities to see that Hawkmoth isn't a 100%, inhumane monster just because he is the stand-in personification of evil in their fight, but the man he calls Father and still needs to be taken down. (I talked about this in more detail on THIS post)
Adrien has to seperat himself from Ladybugs path and focus on his family and I believe it'll start with the much dreaded (but expected) Ladynoir fight.
Funnily enough, what I'm talking about was actually already set up in "Frozer" I just didn't remember that for a bit. In "Frozer" we saw Ladynoir having a fight which caused Chat Noir to go his own way in the episodes battle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I always found it interesting that the episode didn't had Chats decision, to not follow Ladybugs lead here, turn out to be a huge mistake. Almost every other show would have done so but now I think I understand. This episode and s2 in general SET UP the s4 conflict, s3 LEAD UP to it and now s4 DELIVERS it.
So what happened in "Frozer" is a direct parallel to what about to go down:
Ladynoirs fight will cause Chat Noir to not simply  follow Ladybugs side anymore the way he used to, but note, he DOESN'T leave the good side AND they make up again in the end after Chat saves Ladybug from the akuma. He just does things on his own because he isn't on great terms with her for a while. "Frozer" showed Chats decision to not only NOT be a mistake but also a necessary part of defeating the akuma, just the way it'll be in s4. Damn, Adrien breaking away from Ladybugs side, the way she (unintentionally tho) did at the beginning of the season, to focus more on himself and his family will be the game changing factor, when Adrien will have his completing arc where he goes from "not active character within the villain/backstory plot" to "ACTIVE character within the villain/backstory plot".
And we already saw with Marinette how many fast breakthroughs we get through these completing arcs. Which is also a reason for why Adriens/ Chats arc comes later in the season, because BUDDY. Once Adrien starts to actively uncover his families mystery and fathers secrets Gabriel is SCREWED! Adrien will gain the needed inside knowledge that complements Marinettes Miraculous power; and reunited they can take on whatever the hell kind of scale the Agrestes plan actually is.
So how to end this post? My biggest intention was to raise hope for everybody (myself included lol) who is right now very concerned and upset about how side-lined our boy is at the moment. But I prefer doing so in a way that actually works with canons context instead of sugarcoating what I don't like. And Adriens/Chats current position I definitely do NOT like but accepting it as realistic outcome from s1-s3 and set up for the escalation for both Ladynoir and his home situation gives it the proper purpose and pay off (narrative and character wise) that it SHOULD have.
Basically, the endcards of "Truth" and "Lies" show it perfectly.
Tumblr media
It looks like ShadowMoth is turning a blind eye towards Adrien/Chat Noir because of Ladybugs new guardian status and "greater importance". But Gabriels tunnel vision on Ladybug will leave him vulnerable to his own sons secret actions against him and Gabriel won't see it coming until its already too late.

Forgetting Enemies, Rediscovering Friends - Ch. 1
AO3
Thanks to @khanofallorcs for betaing! Set in @buggachat Bakery Enemies AU, before the wine arc.
The morning had started off fine. Marinette had been working on a new design to showcase her talents. A black dress with green trim—great for any occasion.
(Only the most keen-eyed observers would find the small paw print embroidered on the inside of one of the sleeves)
Adrien was hard at work in the kitchen, as usual. Probably plotting how best to steal the Miracle Box, or make her meet the same fate as his mother or—or some other nefarious end. Yes. He must be. No one could be THAT nice, not after everything he went through. It had to be fake.
*beep beep*
Marinette blinked. Her stomach twisted. “The Akuma Alert app? But it can’t be- unless-”
A video popped up, showing the new threat.
“Don’t be bemused, it’s just the news! Past Pirate has made the trip from the U.S. all the way to our fair city of Paris. With Ladybug and Chat Noir still missing, we can only hope that other superheroes arrive soon, before everyone in the city forgets who they are.”
Ah.
Not an akuma or sentimonster, then. Just a random supervillain that thought the absence of Miraculous wielders made Paris an easy target.
Somehow that didn’t make her feel better. At least if it was a sentimonster, she might’ve been able to catch Adrien in the act, prove that he was evil, and recover the lost Miraculous. This- this she could do nothing about.
She was useless.
*beep beep*
A text warning popped up, issuing an evacuation order. A giant orb had been spotted near Collège Françoise Dupont, one that looked very, very similar to the one Oblivio had threatened the city with, all those years ago.
Marinette suspected it served the same function.
She needed to get out of there, NOW.
Her parents were out at dinner on the other side of the city, so hopefully they’d be safe?
The only ones here were her and-
Oooooh crap.
Her and ADRIEN.
...He’d be fine on his own. Right? He got to work every morning after all. He could evacuate on his own.
But his apartment had to be close by, close enough that it’d be in the evacuation order, too. He’d have to go to some public place for cover.
During a supervillain attack.
With a lot of people scared and worried and having flashbacks to what his father did.
...and with him having one of the most recognizable faces in Paris.
Crap.
She was gonna have to take him with her, wasn’t she?
She hurried downstairs. Adrien was already putting on his coat, getting ready to run out the door.
“Wait!”
He froze. An instant later, he turned around. “Marinette? You’ve gotta get out of here, the supervillain-”
She nodded. “I know, come with me.”
He blinked. “Are— are you sure? You don’t need to put up with me just because we’re both heading out, I can go a different direction if it’s more comfortable for you.” His voice dropped. “I know you probably have some trauma associated with what my father did and this situation isn’t helping.”
Why did Adrien have to be so unfailingly nice?!
Marinette shook her head. “My parents would be devastated if something happened to you and I- I don’t want you hurt, either,” she got out in a rush. “I don’t want you out there alone.”
Adrien stared at her, startled. His eyes softened. “Thank you, Marinette.”
Her face heated up. “Po Noblem!” She shook her head. “I—I mean, no problem! Anyone would do it.”
He shook his head. She didn’t have time to think about that before she grabbed his hand, running out the door.
And into a purple beam blast.
-------
Blinking rapidly, he looked around.
He appeared to be on a street… somewhere and—
A purple blast hit a few feet away from his head.
Right. Get out of here first, figure out what was going on second. Maybe he’d find someone else someplace AWAY from the scary light blasts.
He attempted to run down the street and away from whatever the purple blast thing was.
“WAAAAH!”
Attempt at running: failed. Attempt at finding someone else: success!
He winced. “Sorry I dragged you down. Didn’t realize I was holding your hand.”
The girl nodded, eyes wide, still on top of him where she landed. “What’s going on? Who are you?” Her breath caught. “Who am I?”
“I… have no idea.” He admitted. “I don’t remember anything before a minute ago.”
Another purple blast fired. He flinched. “I don’t think sticking around here is a good idea. Let’s get somewhere a little safer first, THEN try to figure out who we are.”
She nodded, getting up and pulling him to his feet. She didn’t let go of his hand. “This way?” she asked, pointing away from where the blast had fired from, down the street the direction he’d tried to run.
He nodded.
They booked it, running in unison, automatically adjusting their gait to exactly match their companion’s.
After they’d gotten some distance away, they slowed down, huffing and puffing from the exertion.
“You think that’s far enough?” the girl asked.
He shrugged.
She started digging through her purse. He blinked, tilting his head. “What’re you looking for?”
She didn’t look up, sticking her tongue out the side of her teeth, appearing to concentrate even harder.
It was adorable.
Huh?
Well, he HAD been holding her hand when he woke up…
“This!” she said triumphantly, holding up her ID card.
He shelved his previous line of thought. For now, at least.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng? Nice to run into you, Marinette!”
She giggled. “I enjoyed falling for you too, uh…”
His face heated up. “Let me check.”
After looking through a few of his coat pockets (one of which held some cheese. Did he normally like the gooey food that much? It didn’t look that appetizing to him right now) he at last located his own ID. “Adrien Agreste.”
“You have anything else that’s useful?” Marinette asked.
“Let’s see…”
After emptying out his pockets, he concluded he had his phone, ID, that piece of Camembert, a debit and credit card, and 70 Euros.
“Well, at least we’re not memoryless AND broke,” Marinette commented.
“What about you?” he asked.
“Well…”
She proceeded to pull out several cookies, a sewing kit, a first aid kit, duct tape, an umbrella, a few items that he felt he should recognize that Marinette hastily stuck back in her purse, saying they weren’t relevant to this situation, and a small black box with an intricate red design on the top, as well as her phone and wallet.
Adrien looked critically at the mass of items. “I don’t think all that should be able to fit in that tiny purse.”
Marinette looked at the objects she had pulled out. Then looked at her purse. Her brow furrowed. “Yeah, I think you’re right. Especially that umbrella. Doesn’t matter how I put that in, it shouldn’t fit. Plus that box- that wasn’t there when I first started rooting through my purse, I’m sure of it!”
He tilted his head. “It wasn’t?”
“I’d shoved everything around a few times,” she explained, “trying to see to the bottom of it. The first few times I didn’t see it, though there WAS some black fabric in the way - that was the umbrella - and once I pulled the umbrella up, well, there it was, lying beneath it.”
“Anything inside it?”
Marinette opened it.
“Nothing,” she said, disappointed. “Just two indentations where something used to be.”
Adrien peered at Marinette. “Maybe it’s the casing for your earrings?”
She startled. “My earrings?”
Reaching up a hand, she felt her ears. “Maybe? Let me see.”
Taking them off, she set them in the box. They fit perfectly.
They also looked different.
“Spotted earrings?” he wondered. “They didn’t look like that before.”
Marinette blinked. “They didn’t?”
He shook his head. “They were black before, not red with black spots.”
“Maybe the lighting just made them look weird?”
“Maybe…”
He looked more critically at Marinette’s ears. “Wait. Something’s weird here, too.”
“Here?”
“With your ears.”
“What’s wrong with my ears?!” she said, sounding on the edge of panic.
“Feel where the earrings were, where you took them out of.”
She shot him a puzzled look, but complied, feeling her lobe, then her entire ear. “Where were they?” she wondered. “I can’t find the holes.”
“Exactly. I can’t see them either.”
“Hold on, let me try something,” she said.
Picking up the earrings, she put them back. “Oh that is WEIRD.”
“How’d you do that?” Adrien asked. He still hadn’t seen the holes she was using, not until the earrings were in again.
“I just let my muscle memory do the talking. I wasn’t threading them through a hole or anything, I just stuck them where I felt like they should go and then— then they were there.”
“They’re back to looking black, too,” Adrien said, squinting.
“Wonder whether your earrings are the same?” Marinette said, looking at him - or rather, at his ears.
Adrien felt his ears, his fingers hitting metal. “Huh. Didn’t know I was wearing them, too. Let’s give it a try.”
He wasn’t quite as fast at removing them as she was, needing a moment to unhook and align them so they’d slide out smoothly. He held them out to her. “Did their look change?”
She shook her head. “No, they still look the same.” Looking closer at his ears, she noted, “I can see the holes left behind, too. I don’t think your earrings have the same weird properties as mine.”
“A purse that can hold more than it should, earrings that change color and leave no mark— maybe it’s magic?” Adrien wondered.
Marinette opened her mouth, looking somewhat indignant - then closed it. “I… can’t come up with a better explanation. Don’t know why I’d have some magical objects, though.”
“Maybe you’re a witch?”
“Do those even exist?”
“No idea.”
“It doesn’t feel like the right term. These are just magical objects, right?” she said. “I might not have any magical powers myself.”
“You think anything else has magical properties?” he asked.
“Let’s see…”
After messing about with the duct tape, wallet, and umbrella for awhile, they concluded that, if they had magic, they were keeping it well-concealed. Unless “closing unexpectedly” was the umbrella’s magical power.
“Any of your things secretly magic?” she asked him. “We checked your earrings, but what about everything else?”
He tried stuffing things into his coat pockets, but they only held as much as one would expect them to. The wallets didn’t have anything special, and the only thing ‘magical’ about the cheese was how much it stank outside of its plastic baggie.
As he was putting it back in the bag (trying not to gag), he glanced at his hand, noticing a silver ring.
Figuring he might as well, he slid it off.
Light ran over it, turning it from silver to black, with a green pawprint on its face.
“You have one, too!” Marinette cried happily.
He nodded, feeling a warmth in his core. Whatever was going on, he was the same as her. “Guess I’ve got magic, too.”
“Think they do anything except change color?” Marinette asked.
Adrien shook the ring for a minute. “If it does, I have no idea how to activate it,” he concluded.
“Let’s move onto our phones, then,” Marinette said, turning hers on. A lockscreen popped up.
She hesitated for a moment as Adrien winced. “That suc-”
Marinette smiled deviously. “Not so fast.” She breathed on it, showing the most common pathways her finger traveled. Swiftly she followed the path, unlocking her phone.
Adrien’s heart went pitter-patter. “Brilliant!” he told her, copying her idea and unlocking his own phone.
“I don’t have a lot of contacts,” he told her, turning it to face her. “Only four people.”
G, Chloé Bourgeois, Sabine Cheng, and Tom Dupain. That was it. “You’re not even in here,” he told Marinette. “Though I’m guessing Sabine and Tom are your parents, at least?”
She scrolled through her own contact list. It was far more extensive than his, easily over a hundred contacts. “Yeah, they are,” she said, comparing the picture for ‘Maman’ with the one Adrien used for Sabine, and the one she used for ‘Papa’ to the one he used for Tom.
“Maybe we should call them?” he suggested. “Especially since they know both of us. Maybe they can help!”
She nodded, clicking on the Call button for Maman.
“Hello?” she asked, sounding nervous.
“Marinette? Are you okay? Is Adrien with you? I hadn’t checked my phone until just now, I had it on silent. You’ve evacuated from the bakery, right? Without Ladybug around to fix everything, who knows when everyone hit by Past Pirate will recover their memories!”
“I’m— well I’m mostly fine, Maman, I got away from the purple blasts. I’m guessing those were from Past Pirate? Adrien and I lost our memories, though. What should we do?”
“Oh. Oh NO.” Sabine sounded horrified. “That’s very, very dangerous, especially for Adrien.”
“Why is it dangerous for me?” he asked.
“Oh, Adrien! Glad to hear from you,” Sabine said, relieved. She hesitated, appearing to choose her words carefully. “Your father—he did some very bad things. Things that people blame you for, despite having no part in them. You’re very recognizable, too. If people see you, they could react badly.”
“People blame Adrien for what his father did? That’s terrible! Why would they do that?” Marinette said, flabbergasted.
Sabine suddenly sounded very awkward. “Well, dear, sometimes people have trauma and it just latches onto innocent people, even when it’s undeserved. They’re wrong, but I wouldn’t judge them too harshly.”
Marinette still looked indignant. “That doesn’t excuse treating him badly!”
Sabine coughed. “Yes. Well. Just be careful. Maybe try to find a disguise for Adrien if you can, before wandering into public areas? Until you’re back home and this crisis is abated.”
Marinette muttered quietly, “He shouldn’t HAVE to.” More loudly, she told Sabine. “Yes, Maman. I have everything I need for that.”
Adrien could practically feel Sabine beaming through the phone. “You’re always prepared, aren’t you?”
Marinette smiled. “Hopefully I’ll see you soon, with my memory intact.”
Stowing her phone, she reached for her sewing kit. “One disguise, coming right up!”

Her Robin and His Little Ladybug Ch. 3
Ao3    Chapter 1   Chapter 2 As the bats continued discussing Paris, Marinette finally realized she had to find a way to make it back so she could stop the akuma, she had been so overwhelmed with the fact that she had been randomly transported that it slipped her mind.
While marinette was the grand guardian of the miraculous, that didn’t mean she had it on her at all times. She was too scared of what her classmates, (besides her teammates) would do if they somehow got her bag.
After Lila somehow got all her classmates under her thumb, they all turned on the bluenette. Many were fascinated with the tall tales the harpy spewed out of her mouth every chance she got, that they were ready to go up to bat with anyone who so much looks at Lila in a funny way.
So now Marinette only let very few miraculous’ be in circulation, as she definitely didn’t need another Hawkmoth or Mayura on her hands. In fact after Hawkmoth was defeated  she planned on renouncing Plagg from Adrien and Pollen from Chloe and moving. Possibly out of the continent, as she had to follow where the miraculous’ were most needed. And she guarded several different boxes now.
Marinette was currently the guardian of three miracle boxes, the zodiac (the original), the Western American Box, as the old guardian was unable and he only knew of marinette and found her very responsible. The last box that she was the guardian of was the Eastern Asian one. The zodiac box being the most powerful as it holds the miraculous of creation and the miraculous of destruction - the two most powerful miraculous’ in existence.
Currently all the boxes were stored behind her loft in the wall.
She designed the space while her parents were away and only she is able to open the door with her magical signature made by Tikki
After Fu passed the miracle box, she wanted to learn more about magic, her desire only increased when she received the two other boxes.
With practice and determination she was able to figure out how to summon the weapons from the miraculous’ if she was wearing that certain one.
Marinette was also able to train with past creation wielders. Usually the women and men Marinette trained with were the strongest of the past wielders. Most of the time, Marinette ended up sparring with Joan of Arc or Hippolyta. They were some of her favorites as they had the most battle experience and were able to give Marinette tips while sparring.
Marinette was finally brought back to reality. She had to find a way to get home, and without Kaalki, it was going to be difficult.
Finally Marinette was able to pull the bats out of their musings by saying, “Umm, I still need to get home…?”
“Can’t the Ladybug hero just fix the akuma whatever and you’ll be sent home after right?” Jason asked nonchalantly.
“Uh… hehe about that…”
Oh god was she really about to reveal her identity to a bunch of random heroes, this was not the plan. ‘Well if this is the only way to get home’ Marinette mused to herself
“I am Ladybug,”  Marinette said finally, using all the confidence and courage she could muster.
Tikki was probably going to kill for exposing her identity, but right now she had to worry about getting home and saving Paris.
As soon as she said that, all the bats stared at her once again, Batman included this time.
Batman was the first to react. He walked up to Marinette and put his hand on her shoulder.
“Do you possibly have a miraculous that can aid you? Wonder Woman has mentioned there are other miraculous’ her mother was a previous miraculous holder.” Batman said softly
Marinette smiled softly while she said, “ I have met Hippolyta, she is a wonderful warrior and is lovely to train and spar with. But all the miracle boxes are currently hidden at my house.”
Batman just sighed and was about to say something else until he realized what she said and asked a different question, “May I ask how you met Hippolyta?”
That got the rest of the bats' attention as they have met the female warrior as well, as were wondering how a french hero met the Amazon Queen.
“Shortly after I became guardian, I became more interested in magic, and the history of the miraculous’ and I discovered you can train with past wielders when you meditate or fall asleep, if you're a true wielder. So for the past 3 and ½ years, I have been training with past wielders of the ladybug miraculous every night.” Marinette responded.
Batman gave a short nod back and said, “We can allow you to use the zeta beams as a mode of transportation to Paris. But when the battle is over, I want you to use your miraculous and come back so you can explain the situation to everyone in better detail. Understood?”
Marinette only nodded her head as Batman directed her towards the zeta platform and she was off.

After Wishmaker
NOTE: I have not watched Season 4, but this does take place after WISHMAKER. Pretty much we all saw the spoiler about the 'Knitting Fairy'. If you haven't, DO NOT READ!!!
"I accept." Luka replied, taking the snake miraculous from Ladybug.
"Meet us by the Arc de Triomphe." Ladybug replied and ran back to the battle.
"Sass, scales slither." he spoke.
Luka had watched Marinette and Adrien take the hits for the past several weeks. Adrien, as Chat Noir, jumping infront of Ladybug to take the hits. Marinette, as Ladybug, getting thrown into buildings. He knew how painful it would be to see their dynamic up close, but he wanted to be there for his friends. He wanted to help them. What aggravated him the most was the he knew Adrien was flirting with Marinette and that she was brushing it off. It would be funny if it didn't hurt so much.
After another thirty minutes and Viperion recharging, Ladybug called on her Lucky Charm. In her palm rested a felt mouse; a cat toy.
"I think we need the mouse miraculous." Ladybug spoke.
Chat froze and turned to Ladybug. She observed the way his tail moved in happiness.
'Oh no.'
Viperion looked at them questioningly.
'Why is he so happy?'
"Ladybug, please, can I give it to My Princess?" he asked, pleading with wide eyes.
'Princess? Kagami? I thought she was Ryoku.'
"Chat, she's already been replaced!" Ladybug stated.
"But Hawkmoth knows who he is!" the weilder of destruction shouted, "It's not fair! You told her she couldn't use it again because I knew. How is this any better?"
'Fuck.'
Viperion could tell Ladybug was trying to come up with an excuse.
'Does she not like the person? I know Marinette doesn't like Chloe, but she still allowed her to use the Bee miraculous.'
"Was there a good reason?" Viperion asked.
"Just that she took off her miraculous in front of me!" Chat growled, glancing between them, "Apparently, she wasn't given the rules, like everyone else, and thought it was fine."
Ladybug sighed, "I’m sorry, Chat. I won't argue about this again. I'm getting Polymouse." and took off.
Chat Noir turned away from the direction Ladybug fled, crossed his legs and sat down. His tail flickered angrily behind him.
'Is he …pouting?'
Viperion pressed a button on his harp and sent Ladybug a quick message about Chat's behavior. He wasn't sure if this was normal or not. He even sent a video clip.
Ladybug stopped halfway to Mylene's place and watched what Viperion had sent her.
'I can't believe he's this mad just because I won't be Multimouse again.'
Ladybug ducked behind a alcove and detransformed.
"Marinette? Did you purify the akuma already?" Tikki questioned.
"No. I think I'm suppose to use the mouse miraculous." she began.
"Did you find Mylene?" the kwami of creation asked.
"N-Not yet. I- Is there a way for you to see what Viperion sent me to the yo-yo?" Marinette hesitated in asking.
Tikki closed her eyes and was able to view how upset Chat was. When she opened her eyes, she nodded.
"I don't know what to do!" Mari continued, "Chat's really upset that Marinette won't be Multimouse again. I don't want to make him think we're not partners or that his opinion doesn't matter."
"Chat does seem to be lashing out more. Perhaps it has something to do with his civilian life. Wear it for today and stop by Mylene's later. Tell her that you are also having Chat Noir pick people, in case they aren't able to get to safety. She will get it next time." Tikki replied.
"That's a great idea, Tikki!" Marinette exclaimed, "Oh, what about Ladybug?"
"Have Multimouse tell Chat that she's explaining to the new hero and that you are a one time thing. You can merge with me later to purify the akuma." Tikki answered.
Marinette smiled, "Mullo, Let's get squeaky!"
Multimouse dropped down on the roof and saw Chat Noir was still sitting down, pouting, his tail flickering.
'Really? This Kitty, what am I gonna do with him?'
Viperion seemed on edge and ready for a fight, she noticed. He was likely expecting Polymouse.
"Hey, Kitty." She spoke, softly.
Chat Noir turned immediately at her voice. She hadn't expected his eyes to fill with such happiness; she felt an intense heat on her cheeks, instantly. All of a sudden, she was on the ground and Chat was on top of her, hugging her and….purring?
'Wait, who is this? I thought he loved Ladybug. This is a pretty big reaction for an ex-miraculous user.'
"Princess, you're here!" Chat Noir cried out, happily, rubbing his face against hers.
Multimouse couldn’t hold back the giggle from his reaction to seeing her again.
"As a one time thing." she stated.
Chat Noir pulled back, sadness in his eyes, "But-"
"Oh, Kitty. I'm not cut out for this." she expressed, noticing the way his cat ears drooped.
"You were pawsitively purrfect." he smiled, leaning in and rubbing his nose on hers.
Multimouse couldn't help but look away, hoping to hide the blush she knew was turning her face as red as her Ladybug suit.
"La-Ladybug said she would be here soon. She went to tell the new weilder that I'm only temporarily for today. She didn't want them get upset and get akumatized." Multi quickly explained her absence, "Besides, this doesn't mean you'll stop visiting me, right?"
"Cookies and cream?" he smiled.
"Yes; always. What better fitting flavor is there for us?" she questioned, "Ready, Chat? I trust you to lead me."
Chat Noir quickly sprang to his feet and pulled her to hers, only to drop on bended knee.
'Chat?'
"At your service, Princess." he spoke, before kissing her hand and looking up to see her reaction.
'What the fuck! Is this how he acts when Ladybug isn't around or only with this weilder? Is this a cat and mouse thing?'
"So, what?" Viperion interjected, ruining their moment, "You're Princess Mouse?"
Multimouse laughed awkwardly.
'I completely forgot about Viperion. I hadn't expected Chat's reaction to seeing me again.'
Chat Noir pushed her behind him and hissed at Viperion.
"Back off, Snake!" he growled, "She's my princess, not yours!" hissing again.
Multimouse pressed a hand to his back and leaned in for him to hear her voice, "Kitty, he doesn't know my name. I've never worked with him before."
'What was that? He's never acted like this before.'
Chat Noir blushed and stood straight, before clearing his throat, in embarrassment, "Right."
"I'm Multimouse." Marinette stated, peeking out from behind the weilder of destruction, "I've only worked with Ladybug and Chat Noir before."
Viperion glanced in Chat Noir's direction and nodded. Since Ladybug wasn't here, he was in charge.
"Okay, Princess, we need you to use that power of yours. The akuma seems to be hidden or is tiny. Ladybug couldn't figure it out, either." he explained, walking towards the edge of the building.
"You got it, Chat!" she smiled, "Multitude!"
Viperion and Chat Noir watched as her legs began to glow and many versions of herself were left in her spot. Chat Noir kneeled down and one jumped onto his shoulder.
"Can you descend your baton so we can use it to get down faster?" the one on his shoulder asked.
'She must be the main one.'
"One elevator going down." he smiled, making her giggle.
The mice quickly jumped on his baton and use it to descend to the floor. Viperion crouched at the edge of the roof, hiding, and keeping an eye on the two weilders.
"Viperion, " Chat called, "Use yours."
"Second Chance." he spoke, activating his miraculous.
Multimouse had jumped down to Chat's palms and was walking back and forth between them.
"Not there or there." she mumbled to herself.
'Can she see what the others see?'
He looked up to see Chat Noir's face full of adoration. He had only seen that look when he was looking at Ladybug.
"Oh!" she spoke, stopping her pacing.
"You found it?" Chat questioned.
Multimouse nodded, "They're getting together and trying to get it."
One of the mice merged with the ladybug miraculous and broke the akuma, quickly deakumatizing the victim. Ladymouse quickly dropped her transformation as everything fixed itself.
"Looks like M'Lady was waiting for you to do your job." he smiled at the one in his palm, "Hold on."
He cupped the one in his palms and dropped down to the victim. Viperion checked on the victim as Chat ran towards the alleyway. The victim had already walked off as, Chat knelt down and Multimouse grew back to her normal size.
"Pound it?" she smiled.
"Pound it!" he smiled back, tapping his fist to hers, before lifting her up into his arms.
"Chat!" She cried, holding onto him tightly.
"I'll take you home and then bring the miraculous back to M'Lady." he stated.
Multimouse nodded and Chat quickly took to the sky, bounding away.
Viperion knew he shouldn't, but he followed them.
'It's not like she'll come back to the team, right?'
He froze on a nearby rooftop when he recognized whose balconey they stopped on.
'Why did he go to Marinette's house?'
To his surprise, Multimouse took off the miraculous, without detransforming, and handed it over to Chat Noir. Chat got on bended knee and kissed her hand, again.
"Thank you again, Princess. We couldn't have done it without you." Chat spoke, resting his head on hand.
Marinette tilted his head up, brushed his bangs out of the way, and kissed his forehead.
"You silly knight, the next time, the real mouse weilder will help." she spoke.
"But-" he began.
Marinette shook her head and he stood up, his hand still in hers.
"I broke the rules, Chat." Mari said, reminding him why she couldn't use it.
Luka noticed Chat's ears lower in sadness and turn his face away from her. Marinette placed her hand on his cheek and turned his face back towards her.
"We both know, that as much as you want me in the field, you would be protective of me." Marinette declared.
"Of course; you're my princess!" Chat cried.
"But, when push comes to shove, you're gonna have to save your Lady and I wouldn't blame you. We both know how much she means to you and to Paris." she replied, "You can't hesitate and if we both needed you, you would."
Chat Noir turned his face and kissed her palm. Marinette smiled at his sincerity and leaned in, pressing a light kiss to his cheek.
"So, let this Princess stay in her tower, where you know she is safe. I'll call out to My Knight anytime I need rescuing." Mari continued.
Chat nodded his head and reluctantly agreed, "Okay, Princess."
Luka couldn't stand watching them any longer, as Chat brought her into his arms. He quickly dipped back into the shadows and ran to the meet up spot.
'No matter what form, they fawn over each other. He flirts with her as Chat Noir and ignores her as Adrien. She seems…more flirty with him as Chat Noir, but as Marinette-. They seem so close. Maybe this is how she really is. Ladybug is more serious and I've only seen her like that when XY stole our designs.'
Chat Noir arrived at the designated rooftop and looked around, only spotting the snake weilder.
"Is Ladybug not back yet?" he questioned.
"I'm here, Chat." Ladybug spoke, touching down on the roof, "Had to recharge my kwami."
Chat Noir walked over and handed her the mouse miraculous.
'A necklace? It looks like a coin.'
"Did you enjoy your time with your Princess?" she teased.
"Yes, M'Lady; thank you! I know she won't be coming back, but it still means a lot that you let me see her again." Chat spoke, giving his partner a hug.
Ladybug rolled her eyes, and returned the hug, "You make it sound like you're never going to see her again."
"Not as Multimouse! I didn't even help her last time. I had to rescued by her." he whined.
"So you wanted to recue her?" Viperion questioned.
"NO!" he shouted, turning to the weilder of Intuition, "She stays away from akuma attacks and thankfully, I've only had to rescue her a few times as a civilian. I'm gonna head home quick and then go see her. Night, M'Lady." and ran off into the night.
The heroine shook her head as she let out a small laugh. She pointed down to the alleyway and Viperion jumped below. She quickly took the miraculous and sealed it away, back in her yo-yo.
"Thank you for your help today." Ladybug smiled.
"I didn't do much this time. You should thank Chat Noir and his mysterious princess. It seemed like they were the real heroes today." Luka spoke.
"I'm sure Chat would love to hear that, but please don't tell him that." she sighed.
"Why not?" he questioned.
"How did he react when he saw her?" she pressed.
"He was excited; happy." Luka spoke, confused.
Ladybug nodded, "Princess is his nickname for her, even out of her mask. We have rules in place and that reason is one of them. Not even Chat Noir and I know each other's identities. What's to stop him from calling out her actual name if she's hit by an akuma? The team could find out. Hawkmoth could find out."
Luka nodded his head, in understanding. Ladybug threw her yo-yo and was gone.
Luka walked towards his home, putting the pieces together.
'Marinette was Ladybug. Adrien was Chat Noir. At some point, she was forced to use the mouse miraculous and he became a fan, even after learning her identity. Adrien had practically cuddled Marinette, happy to see her, and she had no clue. Hawkmoth had been the deciding factor. Chat Noir took hits for Ladybug, which is why a new mouse had been appointed.'
He hated it. He hated how close and how far they were at the same time. As he walked down the street, he saw a shadow pass overhead.
'Another akuma?'
He looked up, just in time to see Chat Noir arrive on Marinette's balconey with a bouquet of roses.
"What's this?" he heard Marinette question.
"A thank you." Chat smiled.
Marinette hugged him and kissed his cheek, "Thank you, Chat. These are lovely. I have your favorite movie ready to start and our ice cream tub with two spoons."
Chat Noir bowed and offered his hand up for her to take. Marinette giggled and took his hand. It wasn't hard to figure out that they had moved into her room for a personal movie night.
Luka stomped away.
'She's practically dating Chat Noir! He's fawning over Ladybug, but giving all his attention to Marinette as Chat. He's a goddamn idiot!'
Luka waited outside the school, as the final bell rang. He had plans with the members of Kitty Section after school. It wasn't hard to spot Marinette. She was still doe-eyed and blushing in Adrien's direction. She began to wave at him, as if she hadn't seen him for days. Adrien chuckled and waved back, before going back to his conversation with Nino.
"Girl, just ask him out." he heard Alya pressed.
"Yeah, right." Marinette spoke, "Adrien would never want me. He's always around models and celebrities. Face it, in ten years it'll be 'Marinette who? Never heard of her'."
"You are just as pretty and way smarter. In ten years, you'll be leading the fashion world and he'll be begging to work with you." Alya reassured her.
Marinette slumped onto her friend's shoulder and whined, "I can't even talk to him properly."
"I know." Alya chuckle and pat her best friend's head.
Out of the corner of his eyes, Luka saw Adrien glance at the girls and make his way towards them.
"Are you okay, Marinette?" he asked.
"No!" Marinette shouted, standing up, "Yes! I'm hungry? Tired! I. Am. Tired."
Adrien chuckled as Marinette's cheeks tinted pink. Their eyes linger for moment before they both looked away.
"I didn't see anything about last night's akuma attack on the Ladyblog." Adrien spoke, directing his attention to Alya.
Alya began to complain about her parents not letting her out so late. It didn't escape his notice as Adrien moved closer to Alya, but mostly in Marinette's direction, almost close enough to grab her hand.
'I'm either gonna kill them or lock them up, until they confess their feelings for each other!'

Marinette Dupain-Cheng’s Spite Playlist: Remix CH11
And here the plot thickens! There’s a lot coming up in this next section that I hope you will all love. I’ve spent the most time in this middle portion, and I’m really happy with a lot of the character arcs coming up. Enjoy!

Chapter 11: Rain on Me
“It’s not much, but…”
Tall columns stretched up to the ceiling on either side of the grand staircase, and Marinette’s reflection beamed back at her in the tile. The foyer was bright and airy—a stark contrast to the duller hues of Adrien’s house. Macy’s home was grand but also inviting.
Eliott shoved Macy playfully. “I’ll say. My foyer is much bigger.”
Macy shoved him back, sticking out her tongue. “C’mon, I’ll show you my room.” She bounced up the stairs cheerfully, leading them to the door at the end of the hall. “This whole wing is mine actually. I’ve got a movie theater, a private bathroom—I even have my own sound studio.”
“I’ve begged my father to build a theater, but he doesn’t like the idea of having a lot of teenagers in his house,” Adrien said with a hint of envy. “Do you mind if I take a look?”
“You can look at whatever you want,” Macy giggled.
Martin and Eliott exchanged looks.
“I’ll go with them.” Martin followed them up the hall.
“Marinette, come check out the closet. Macy’s handbag collection is to die for.” Eliott took her hand and pulled her into Macy’s room. “Julius, can you bring us up some tea? Set it up on the terrace.”
Macy’s butler nodded politely before retreating from the room.
“You’re really comfortable here,” Marinette remarked as Eliott threw open the closet doors.
"Macy and I grew up together. We've been friends forever, so it's almost like I live here too," he said, sifting through a rack of designer dresses. "We're basically family."
"That's so awesome. I wish I had someone like that," Marinette said. She examined the photos hanging on Macy's vanity, smiling young faces that were all too familiar. "Who's the girl in these pictures? She looks a lot like you. Is she your sister?"
Eliott stopped, cautiously crossing the room to stand beside her. He shoved his hands into his pockets and frowned. "No, that's me.”
Marinette's eyebrows raised. "Oh. Oh. Okay." She nodded, turning back to the pictures awkwardly.
"Is that okay?" Eliott asked.
"Of course."
Eliott relaxed, trailing his thumb over the edge of the photo. "I started transitioning the summer before collége. I’m lucky that my family is so supportive," he explained. “Not many people at school know besides Macy—just a few teachers. I’m always a bit scared to tell new people because I don’t know how they’ll react, and even though we haven’t known each other that long, I trust you, Marinette.”
"Um, thank you for telling me." She clasped her hands together. “It means a lot to know you see me that way. After everything… I needed friends like you and Macy.”
"I should be thanking you. I’ve changed for the better every day since I met you. I can tell you have that effect on people,” he said. “Besides, it's who I am, and I don’t want to hide it from my friends. It’s just… not everyone is so understanding.”
"Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me,” Marinette said. Her cheeks warmed when Eliott scooped her into a tight hug.
Things in her life were so different now. Different school, different people, but deep down, Marinette was still the same. Loving her friends wasn’t a bad thing. Alya may have turned her back on their friendship, but that didn’t mean that everyone in her life would. Eliott’s confidence in her was proof enough that these people would stay by her side.
“You two can go ahead out to the terrace,” Macy’s voice sounded in the hall, and a moment later, she appeared in the doorway. “Did you show her my limited-edition handbag collection?” She leaned against the frame with a knowing look.
“Yeah, she thinks they’re great.” Eliott winked.
“Good,” Macy said. “We don’t let just anyone see them, so you should feel honored.”
“I do. Moving to a new school was really hard, so I’m glad to have made such good friends so quickly,” Marinette said. “You’ve both changed my life too.”
“Aww,” Macy and Eliott cooed.
Eliott lifted her hand to his lips. “Don’t worry. From now on, we’re here for you, Marinette.”
“Yeah, you’re one of us now.”
♪♫♪ The Wrecked and the Worried ♪♫♪
“Thanks for taking me home,” Marinette said as Gorilla pulled out onto the street. “Macy lives so far away from my house.”
Adrien smiled at her, the warmth from his chest spreading to his cheeks. Marinette was so much happier with her new friends. Seeing her face light up when she laughed at one of Eliott’s jokes, or the slight furrow in her brow when Macy waved 2000 euros away like it was pocket change set his mind at ease.
The more distance Marinette put between her and Francoise-Dupont, the happier she became, and the more Lila’s threats lost their bite. Out of everyone in their class, he had always been drawn to Marinette. Maybe it was her courage or her compassionate nature that he admired so much or maybe her optimistic attitude. She’d lost everything because of Lila, and yet, she’d still managed to pick up the pieces and find happiness again.
In such a short time, he’d become so protective of her. He never wanted that smile to fade or those brilliant bluebell eyes to dim. More than anything, he wanted her to be free from the past, and he’d do anything to help her get there. Marinette deserved the best—she shared her light freely all the time and never asked for anything in return, so now he was going to do the same for her.
“It’s no trouble. I’m happy that I get to spend time together with just you,” he said. “Your new friends are really nice.”
“Yeah, I’m sorry about Macy. She just gets really excited.” Marinette winced.
“It’s okay,” he chuckled. “Your designs look amazing so far.”
Her cheeks darkened three shades. “I dunno about that. They’re still pretty messy…Clara probably won’t like them.”
“Why not? You’re really talented. I’m sure she will love them.” He assured her.
“Thanks, I guess. I’m just so nervous about it.” She hugged her bag to her chest and bit her lip. “I still can’t believe I have an opportunity like this right now. It’s always been my dream to be a designer, but I pictured it as something I wouldn’t achieve until I was older. I feel so under-qualified.”
“You’re already a great designer, Marinette, and people are starting to see that,” he said. “You shouldn’t be so modest.”
“I know, but I can’t help it,” she said. “I don’t want to brag or seem full of myself.”
“I don’t think anyone thinks you’re full of yourself. It’s not wrong to brag every once in a while, especially for someone as incredible as you.” He placed his hands on her shoulders and offered her a warm smile. “We’re all just proud of you, and we want you to be proud of yourself. You deserve it.”
Marinette bit back a smile, cheeks pink and eyes shining in the dim light. How had he gotten so lucky to meet someone like her? She was so smart and driven and kind. Unlike Lila. Marinette was going to change the world for real someday—Clara was just step one.
“Well, looks like this is me,” she said as the limo slowed to a stop. “Thanks again for the ride.”
“You’re welcome, anytime.” Adrien pulled her in for a hug, kissing both of her cheeks. “See you soon.”
“See you!”
Adrien leaned back against the seat with a sigh, drumming his fingers as the limo pulled away. Lila needed to be stopped at all costs. If she got in the way of Marinette’s future, he’d never forgive her. He hated to admit it, but after his conversation with Nino and Alya, he’d officially run out of nice options. Lila would continue to use people for as long as she could unless they did something. Unless he did something.
Conflict made his skin crawl, but he owed this to Marinette. If he hadn’t been so complaisant, she wouldn’t have changed schools. She and Alya might still be friends, and he could even see Nino outside of class now. This was all his fault.
Granted, if she had stayed, she may not have the same opportunities now, and she never would have met her new friends. There was some good that had come of this. He couldn’t change the past, but he would make sure Marinette had a bright future—one devoid of Lila and her lies.
“Can we stop by the Grand Paris?” he asked, and after a small huff, the limo changed course. “Thank you!”
When Adrien arrived at Chloe’s suite, she was dressed in a silk robe with a green face mask and cucumbers over her eyes. Several stylists worked on her nails, and although she couldn’t see him, she knew the moment he approached.
“Did you come for a mani-pedi?” she asked.
He shifted his weight. “You told me to come back when I was ready to take down Lila, and… I’m ready.”
“Why should I help you? You didn’t help me when I needed you.” Chloe opened her mouth, and her butler placed a small chocolate on her tongue with a pair of tongs.
“Because we’re friends, and I know you’d do anything for me,” he said. When she opened her mouth for another chocolate, undeterred, he added, “because I know you still sleep with your teddy bear.”
A wicked grin curled on her lips, cracking the half-dried, green paste on her face. “Blackmailing me, Adrikins? I’m impressed. You really have come a long way.”
“Please, Chloe? I’ve tried talking to Alya and Nino. I’ve tried convincing Lila to change. I know I screwed up before, but there has to be something else we can do to stop her.” Adrien dropped to his knees, pressing his palms together. “I’m literally begging.”
Chloe hummed thoughtfully to herself while she chewed another chocolate. “How is Dupain-Cheng these days?” she asked.
Adrien’s heart jumped to his throat. “She’s fine, and I want to keep it that way.”
Chloe’s lip twitched, and she sat up abruptly. Her staff scrambled to remove the cucumbers from her eyes as she stood up to meet Adrien’s gaze head-on. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were in love with her. Why else do you care so much about Lila other than the fact that she’s tarnishing Marinette’s reputation?”
“She’s just a friend, and I don’t want Lila to turn everyone against her,” Adrien insisted.
Chloe rolled her eyes. “Even I don’t believe you when you say that anymore, Adrikins.” She turned and waddled carefully to the bathroom, the bottom of her robe trailing the ground. “Lila might lie to others, but you lie to yourself. I can’t decide which is more painful to watch.”
“Chloe-”
She paused in the doorway and looked over her shoulder. “I will think of something to help you with Lila if it’s so important to you,” she said. “Now, I’ve got a date with a hot bubble bath, so beat it.”
“Thank you, Chloe-”
“Out!” She pointed to the door.
Adrien scurried from her suite, mashing the elevator button repeatedly. He pictured Marinette’s smiling face from that afternoon contrasted against her anguished sobs from only a few days before. Lila would pay for those tears, and Adrien would make sure she never caused them again. He’d protect Marinette Dupain-Cheng, no matter the cost.
♪♫♪ Runaways ♪♫♪
“See you tomorrow!” Marinette waved to Macy and Eliott outside Martin’s apartment a few nights later.
“Are you sure you don’t want a ride?” Macy gestured to Eliott’s open limo.
“Yeah, I’ll manage. The subway isn’t too far from here, and it’s out of your way,” she insisted.
Eliott pursed his lips but didn’t press. “Alright then. See you tomorrow.” He blew her a kiss.
Marinette started up the street alone, enjoying a brief moment of solitude. After changing schools in the middle of the term, she was in need of a good study session, and her new friends were more than happy to oblige. Martin’s ritzy apartment building was smaller than Macy and Eliott’s sprawling mansions, but still far more luxurious than Marinette’s home.
“For having so much, your new friends are surprisingly generous.” Tikki peeked out from her purse.
“Just because they’re rich doesn’t mean they’re not nice people. Look at Adrien. He’s the nicest person I know.” She sighed dreamily before snapping herself out of it. “Martin, Macy, and Eliott have become people I can really count on. I owe them a lot for embracing me the way they have.”
“Do you think they’re worthy replacements for Rena Rouge and Carapace?” Tikki asked.
Marinette pursed her lips with a hum. “Time will tell. I want to be absolutely certain this time. No more mistakes.”
“Oh my gosh, hey!” A strangely familiar voice cooed.
Marinette stopped short, turning over her shoulder as an arm snaked through her own and tugged. Red hair blurred her vision until bright green eyes locked with hers.
“Wow, what are the odds that we’d run into each other. It’s so awesome to see you.”
Marinette’s eyebrows furrowed as Gabrielle dragged her further up the street. Her tight grip stretched Marinette’s shoulders painfully, but something in her voice seemed off. It was familiar and friendly, which was already puzzling enough, but Marinette also detected a hint of…fear?
“Gabrielle, what’s-”
“There are some creepy guys following me, play along, and I’ll leave you alone for a month,” she hissed. “So, what are you up to?”
Marinette grasped her forearm, giving the illusion of familiarity, even if it was to keep her shoulder from popping out of socket. “Uh, just out and about.”
“Hey, we should see a movie next week.” Gabrielle picked up the pace as they rounded a corner.
Marinette struggled to keep up with her long legs. “Yeah, totally!” She used a parked car to catch a glimpse of their assailants in the reflection. “Do you wanna take the subway with me?”
“We need to shake them off first,” Gabrielle said under her breath.
Marinette pressed her lips together, then nodded. “Follow me.”
Gabrielle arched a brow as Marinette took the lead, veering toward the park across the street. She cut diagonally across to the other exit, stealing a glance over her shoulder as they turned another corner. They were still being followed, their assailants picking up speed to match their pace. Marinette checked the time on her phone, abruptly darting across the street to the next block.
“Do you know where we’re going?” Gabrielle asked through clenched teeth.
“Trust me,” Marinette said.
Gabrielle eyed her skeptically but didn’t argue. Marinette pictured the route in her head, imagining the overhead view. She knew this city better than anyone, and as she ducked around one more corner, she finally made the plunge down into the subway. Gabrielle tensed, but Marinette grabbed her wrist and picked up the pace. They slid onto the subway car just before the doors closed, watching smugly as their pursuers slowed to a stop at the base of the stairs just as the train pulled off.
“Thanks.” Gabrielle averted her gaze stubbornly. “You didn’t have to help me.”
“I know,” Marinette said. She grabbed onto the pole as Gabrielle pulled out her phone and resumed ignoring her. “So, what are you doing out walking? Don’t you have a chauffeur?”
“None of your business.”
Marinette’s eyes narrowed on the apron sticking out of her bag, and Gabrielle shifted to hide it. Something weird was going on with her, but Gabrielle was right—it wasn’t any of her business. They were safe, and that was all that mattered.
“I can make it home from here,” Gabrielle said when the train stopped at the next station. “Thanks again.”
“You’re welcome…” Marinette leaned against the pole with a frown as Gabrielle stalked from the car.
“That was odd,” Tikki said from Marinette’s collar.
“Yeah,” Marinette said when the doors slid shut again. “Really odd.”

Season 4, Episode 13 - Optigami
Tumblr media
I was hoping it might be my favourite S4 episode till now, but it can't be, since I absolutely hate how they are writing "Alya knows" plot arc.
Tumblr media
What writers are doing with it is ridiculous. They make Marinette more stupid and irresponsible than ever before to make Alya shine (although she is doing dumb things as well, so I'm not sure I can say she is shining, she is rather also a victim of writing). She is not respect the rules, she has not enough humility (knowing Ladybug's identity and everything about Guardian is not enough, she also wants getting Miraculous permanently), she makes careless things. And what? She is rewarded for it. Do you remember previous seasons? When Marinette did something stupid, Tikki said it out loud. What's happening in season 4? Nothing. No matter what, Tikki and other Kwamis tell nothing. And some of them has been portrayed as wise or careful before (like Wayzz or Sass). I don't see it this season. Now when Tikki questioning reckless Marinette decisions is the most needed, she does nothing. And what's with Su-Huan? What is he doing? Is he one episode character only? Maybe he should start monitoring how's doing the new Guardian? Because it seems that she's is not doing well with her duties.
@bookdragonlibrary has told me that Marinette being incompetent as the Guardian in Mr. Pigeon 72 makes sense, because she was in a big stress. It could be a good argument if Marinette was as much incompetent as Ladybug as well. But being in stress hasn't affected her in the akumas battles at all. And since Optigami is 13rd episode, "Marinette is completely new as the Guardian" can't be justification of her mindless actions anymore. They just downgraded Marinette's intelligence and wisdom of some of the Kwamis as well.
This is why I think that the whole "Alya knows" story arc is absurd and inconsistent with the previous seasons. Do you want more examples? Thanks @bookdragonlibrary for reminding me that in Gang of Secrets Ladybug told to Alya that she has no permission to reveal that she's the Guardian now on Ladyblog. And what's Alya doing in the next episode? She's revealing that Ladybug is the Guardian in front of Mr. Ramier and giving some informations that are supposed to be "top secret" stuff to him. Marinette, or other characters, didn't react to it at all. If Mr. Ramier likes to gossip, he could easily spread the news to the whole Paris. It shows that Alya and Marinette don't think about possibility of the consequences of their actions at all. Alya is also supposed to be a great journalist in the future, how am I going to believe in it, if she's doing those many things mindlessly?
Tumblr media
I know that made Gabriel and Nathalie are going to pay more attention to Alya and thanks to it they could discover Ladybug's identity. Actually now, that should be extremely easy to start suspect Marinette (since that's not a secret and she's Alya's best friend) and start tracking her. And it should happen immediately, in the next episode. But I'm sure the writers are not going to make him minimal smart. I think it will take him many episodes, and even if, it will happen at the end of the season. Still it's not a reason to make the characters dumb and reckless.
I would like to see Gabriel and Nathalie knowing Ladybug identity before Marinette knows identities of the villains, it would be very interesting. But I don't think it's going to happen in the way the end of Optigami foreshadows. In my opinion, even if Gabriel starts tracking Marinette, she will discover that in some way before it's too late, and she will mislead him. Just like Gabriel has done it in Collector or Adrien in Gorizilla. It's too fast. Most probably Shadow Moth is going to be defeated at the end of season 5, so I can't see that he's learning Ladybug's identity in season 4. Also I can't believe that there are going to be real and very big consequences for Marinette and Alya. The danger will rather be only temporary, at the end it will be said like telling Alya about absolutely everything was a very good idea from the start. Maybe they have done some a bit questioning things, but nothing really bad.
Tumblr media
Is there something I liked in this episode? Yes, of course, though stupid actions of Alya and Marinette made it harder to enjoy it. That's great they tried to make villains more smart and we've seen they are doing something more than just sending akumas and amoks after random civilians. They have some more deliberate plans. There was plenty of action and it was more interesting than in most other this season's episodes (basically, I think that akuma battles in other episodes than Truth, Furious Fu and maybe Guiltrip are rather boring).
Also I like how the Lucky Charm was utilized, not to beat the akuma/sentimonster like always, but to discover the plan of Shadow Moth and Nathalie.
Tumblr media
And the design of ladybug and bee fusion is great. Marinette's superhero suits are always so good and this one is one of my favourites. I like her hairstyle the most. I think Ladybee design is even better than Queen Bee or Vesperia's (although there's nothing bad in them as well).
Tumblr media
I expected this episode to focus more on Marinette and Adrien as civilians. Remember, I haven't watched the trailer(s) and I was trying to avoid spoilers as much as I could. I'm barely active on Tumblr and Instagram since that one week marathon of the new episodes has started (because I'm afraid of spoilers), but unfortunately, I forgot I should be careful with YouTube as well, so thumbnails and titles of the videos spoilered me the ladybug and bee Miraculous fusion and end card, so I knew it's actually Alya-centric episode again. But maybe it's actually a good thing, thanks to it, I'm not as much disappointed as I could be otherwise.
I absolutely didn't want them to reveal their identities now, like they teased us. I'm not crazy about getting The Reveal ™ as fast as possible, I actually think that doing it too early would not be good. The Love Square is a great and unique concept, so there's no reason to kill it too early. I fully accepted the idea of secret identities from the start. This is why the idea of of Marinette telling someone wasn't overly exciting to me, I could see it for Alix, as only it made sense to me at this point of the story. I could accept it, if it was done right, but it's done very bad.
But seeing early synopsis of this episode, I expected that we should get some Adrienette development. Optigami is episode 13, it's really in time to do this! I was hopping that we should see Marinette being more and more comfortable around Adrien which would lead to the reveal in the season finale. Because I think the main characters should build a very strong bond as both civilians and superheroes before it happens (another reason why I would not like to see the reveal in season 2 or 3). Marinette should be ready to confess (but that doesn't mean she would do it then) and get to know who Adrien really is well, before she discovers that her crush is also her partner who she has been rejecting many times before. It doesn't look like it's happening now. So if nothing changes soon, it could mean that the reveal between Marinette and Adrien will happen rather in season 5.
Also Alya now is getting more screentime and more action than Adrien. Rena Rouge transformation sequence has been seen in three episodes, Chat Noir's in only once and there's no Cataclyms full animation at all (I'm curious about arrangement of its theme). Adrien is reduced to nearly a background character in many of the episodes this season, it's noticeable more than before to me, and I feel it is so unfair. But even now, Alya is still mostly portrayed as the best friend of the protagonist than a character on her own. I would like to see more her doing something which has nothing to do with Marinette and Ladybug. It could make her really shine, now I see her mostly as a character who is doing very reckless things without thinking about the consequences.
-----------------------
The lesson I just learned is that I can't get excited about any upcoming season 4 episodes, no matter how much interesting its synopsis sounds. I should be rather careful about every single one. And sometimes seeing unwanted spoilers is not that bad if thanks to them, I can avoid being too much disappointed. As after seeing the end card of it, I knew this episode is nothing like I imagined.

“I’m sending you to Paris.” Amira heard her father say out of the blue.
“Wha-what?” Amira sputtered out, rising from her seat, cushions tumbled to the floor.
“I’ll have all the necessary arrangements done by the end of this month, no, week.” Bruce said, searching his desk for some papers.
“Dad, what are-”
“You’ll be living with Tom and his wife-”
“What do you-”
“I’ll also have to do the necessary paperwork for you to attend a school in Paris-”
“But I don't need to move to be safe. I’m perfectly-” Amira argued, standing in front of his desk, the Batman plushie in her hand.
“If I thought you were safe here, I wouldn’t have you-”
“I don’t want to-” Amira cut off again, trying to get her feelings across to her father.
“You’re going to go to Paris where it’s safe. Where no villain nor enemy will find you.” Bruce stated, almost glaring at Amira.
“I. Don’t. Want. To.” Amira gritted, feeling her hand tightly squeeze the plushie in her hand. She just started to do well again. She finally had someone to talk to at school, even if Babs was years older than her.
“This isn’t up for discussion Amira.” Bruce glared, his eyes narrowed. “You’re going to Paris where it’s safe, whether you like it or not. Am I clear?”
Amira felt herself shake, hating that she held no power to go against her own father. Amira looked at the Batman in her hand, scowling as she looked at it. Without a second thought, Amira ripped it in half and threw it to the floor. “Why the hell did I ever idolize you?” Amira growled, marching out of the study, ignoring her father’s yells for her to come back.
She almost slammed the doors into Dick’s face, but even when he asked her what happened, she simply glared at him with unshed tears before picking up her pace.
She shut her room door closed as she walked to her bed, or at least attempted to. Just two steps away from it, she collapsed to the floor, grasping the rug underneath her as she let her tears escape.
She let herself scream into the void that was her room.
-
Amira looked at the boxes surrounding her and then at the empty room before her, feeling her panic rising as she started at the brightly lit attic.
She couldn’t say goodbye to Dick...nor Wally...or Barbara.
Even as she kept locked within her room that week, her mode of communicating with Dick was also cut off.
She was made to leave the manor without a word that Friday morning, to board the jet without a word and be sent off without anything more than a hug from Alfred.
Her father had told her that she would keep doing her class work remotely, seeing as it was the last semester of the school year and there was no point in making her completely withdraw.
But come the next school year, she would be a student at College Francoise Dupont, the school across the street from where she and the Dupain-Chengs would reside.
She knew her father was hurting, but this? This was too much.
She headed up the skylight, thinking fresh air would help to calm her down, but was proved wrong when she saw the blue sky.
How the hell was this supposed to feel like home when it felt nothing like Gotham?
Where were the gray skies? The arcs and cobblestone that hid malicious secrets? Where were the gargoyles that followed her every move? Her home?
Amira went back down, looking at the place she had to call her room. The tall ceiling loomed over her, as if laughing at her.
“How are you doing, Amira?” Tom asked her in French, Amira turning ever so slightly to look at the baker. Right, how did she forget? This was Tom’s hometown. Of course he would feel at home here in Paris while she didn’t.
“Doing alright?” Sabine asked, holding their daughter in her arms. She really forgot about her too, didn’t she?
Amira looked at the couple, letting a smile form on her lips.
“I’m doing alright, Papa, Maman. If anything, just taking in the view.” Amira lied through her teeth.
That’s right. She couldn’t make any trouble for her host parents. While she knew Tom since she was a toddler, she was still figuring out Sabine.
Tom met the woman years ago and married her just two years ago. A year into their marriage, they had Bridgette. Of course, the Dupain-Chengs knew that Amira would once again use their surname while in Paris. It will be a bit confusing, but they knew it would be fine as long as the name was used for school purposes only.
Documents for school were easier to forge than for those for the government, or so Bruce once told them.
“Well, if you need anything,” Tom started.
“We will be right downstairs.” Sabine finished.
With that, the two went down the stairs, leaving Amira to unpack her things.
So this was her new life.
As she unpacked her things, she found Jason’s old journal with a worn out bookmark in her hands. She watched as her tears hit the surface of the journal.
“Jason...just what am I supposed to do?”
-
Dick couldn’t take it anymore, hell, he wanted to do this when he first heard about Amira leaving the country against her will. Of course, he couldn’t do anything when Alfred practically threatened him if Dick ever did what he was currently doing.
Barging into Bruce’s study, Dick didn’t care if Bruce was in the middle of a phone call. Ending the call, Dick made Bruce look at him.
“What the hell made you think sending Amira by herself to Paris was a good idea?” Dick growled, hating that Bruce remained indifferent.
With a sigh, Bruce set down the phone.
“She’s not alone. She’s with Tom and his wife. They’ll take good care of her.”
“That isn’t the point here Bruce! You’ve literally sent Amira across the Atlantic, away from all the people she knew as family, just because it would give you a peace of mind?”
“It was necessary.”
“It was extreme, even for you!” Dick gritted. “Amira needs us to be by her side, not across an ocean, all by herself!”
“If that's what you came here to talk about, I suggest you leave. I have an important call to-”
“Fine! Be that way! Dick yelled, slamming the door behind as he left the study.
He couldn’t believe it. He really couldn’t.
Sending Amira to a place she didn’t know, a place where she would have trouble with adjusting to all on her own?
How could Bruce do this to her?
Once in his room, Dick huffed, pacing around his room in attempts to calm himself down. As he kept pacing around, he noticed his suitcase peering from under his bed.
That’s right. He was 17, almost 18 in a few months.
Who needed Bruce anyways?
-
Amira needed a break from unpacking, so taking her keys and her phone (that she managed to buy without her father knowing), Amira went off to explore. Of course, she told her ’parents’ before going off, thanking that they at least understood her, unlike her own father.
Amira sighed as she looked out towards the Seine, wondering why many tourists believed that this river lived up to its fame, the river making her remember one of her father’s stories about her mother.
Her mother and father had come here before, a year before she was born. Talia. That was her mother’s name. While Amira hated the fact that she learned her mother’s name 12 years too late, she was glad to finally have the name of the woman who brought her into this world.
Even if the world was against her.
The two were just two love birds, even if they only knew each other for a year. In that year, they came to the Seine together and placed a lock on that very bridge, thinking they too would end up together. Seems like the universe had other plans for the two.
Amira kept walking around town, getting a feel for it, remembering landmarks in case she ever got lost and didn’t have her phone.
As she passed by a park, she couldn’t help but notice the mob of girls looking at something...or rather, someone.
As she approached the mob, she finally saw what they were all desperately trying to get to see.
“Adrien!” A girl shouted, said boy turning to greet them, causing the girls to let out a deathly squeal, causing Amira to cover her ears.
Damn fangirls and their screams. Just when she thought she got used to them, she was always proven wrong. Then again, Dick’s fanclub wasn’t as rowdy as these girls. They at least respected Dick and his wishes of them not causing trouble for him.
Amira left the mob, wondering why the boy looked so familiar only to look up and see why. His damned face was all over the place.
A model...he was a model...
A decent looking model to be quite honest. But despite being a model, he had nothing compared to-
Amira caught herself mid sentence, wondering why she thought that...
Did she really miss him that much?
Not thinking much of it, she kept walking.
-
“What do you mean he isn’t home?” Bruce asked, looking up from his documents. He watched as Alfred remained unfazed by Bruce’s raise in tone.
“Master Dick told me to give you this if you should ever ask about his whereabouts.” Alfred handed over an envelope to Bruce. But Bruce simply let it hang, getting up to search for his missing son. “Master Bruce, I suggest you don’t-”
“We have patrol tonight and he should have been here by now, prepping for it. He should be-”
“-in Bludhaven by now.” Alfred completes, making Bruce stop.
“What?”
“Master Dick wanted to tell you that he was heading to Bludhaven.” Alfred said, laying down the envelope Dick had wanted to give to Bruce. “‘Crime never rests’ he said before leaving with nothing but a small suitcase. Although if you ask me, it seems like he’s taken the next step in his life. But what about you, Master Bruce?
Are you ready to take the next step?”
Bruce’s mouth formed a thin line, eyeing the envelope on the desk.
“I guess I better get used to doing patrols by myself then.”
-
Amira couldn’t believe her eyes. Who the hell would  just push an elderly old man as they’re crossing the street? Not even Gothamites did that (unless there was some type of crime going around).
“Are you alright sir?” She asked the elderly man, helping him up and handing him his cane.
Yes, she was the daughter of a billionaire, but that didn’t stop Grandpere Alfred from making sure she was shaped into a decent human being.
“Thank you, young lady.” The elderly man replied, shakily getting up. “I’m terribly sorry for making you-“
“No problem at all sir.” Amira told him with a small smile. “If anything, it gave me a slight feel of home.” Amira bid the old man goodbye, not realizing the perplexed look on his face.
-
Bruce let out a long sigh as he rubbed his temples, trying to figure out why the universe was against him so much lately.
First, Dick leaves for Bludhaven without a single word. Then he wouldn’t pick up his phone whenever Bruce called, although he did at least read the messages Bruce would leave him.
Second, Amira also stopped picking up the phone as well. Whenever Bruce would call the bakery, Amira would pick up before hanging up promptly. Unlike Dick, Amira didn’t have a phone, so he couldn’t just leave her a message directly for her. He would have to relay it, something he didn’t want to do.
And when he thought his week couldn’t get any worse, it did.
He was at another charity event, when Killer Croc decided to attack. Stuck between a stone and a wall, Bruce was about to resort to possibly exposing himself when a girl crashed in, wearing a bat logo across her chest.
While she was knocked out the minute she came to the scene, it gave Bruce a decent window to change into Batman.
And here he was, standing in an alley with a girl who’s red hair made him think he knew her behind the yellow mask and black cowl.
“What were you thinking?” Batman hissed, looking at the girl in front of him. “What made you think that wearing that outfit would-”
“This was the only way to get your attention.” The girl spoke, unfazed by his furrowed brows. “You need a partner and don’t say you don’t, because your recent fights tend to prove otherwise. The girl cut to the chase, placing her hand on top of her yellow utility belt. “Your attacks are sloppy and you’re biting off more than you can chew to make up for Nightwing’s sudden change of patrol.”
Batman frowned, wondering how much this girl knew about him and his activities.
“It wasn’t sudden. He was going to-”
“Because that clearly explains why Nightwing is only seen patrolling Bludhaven as of five days ago.” The girl says, waiting for Batman’s next excuse. When there was none, the girl continued. “I know why he moved. I know why you’re lagging behind. It’s what happened to Robin...isn’t it?”
The girl knew that it was a touchy subject, she knew and yet she still needed to voice it. She needed Batman to come back to his senses. Gotham needed him to come back.
“Robin-”
“Robin died in your last mission involving Joker.  It didn’t take long to connect the dots when all of the evidence was there. No Robin sighting in the past month, no Nightwing seen with you for the past two weeks and Nightwing suddenly appearing in Bludhaven this week? Not exactly being the most discreet here, B.”
“Listen here-” Batman started, only then realizing who this young woman was. How did he not notice her before? After all, she used to follow her father like a chick would follow its mother. “Barbara.” He didn’t miss the way she flinched, her eyes growing wide. “Vigilantism isn't a game.”
“How-”
“If your father found out-”
“He won’t.” Barbara declared. “He may be a detective, but he is my father. It shouldn’t be too hard to make him-”
“That’s not what I’m worried about, although I’m sure he would quickly find out about you doing this.” Batman said, starting the Batmobile. “I’m worried about how it will affect your relationship with your father. What would he say when you finally decide to tell him your…” Batman realising he never heard her alias.
“Batgirl.” Barbara provided.
“What will he say when you finally tell him your Batgirl? That you’re working with Batman, a man he despises?”
“He doesn’t really despise you.” Barbara said, looking down at her feet. “If anything, he’s grateful that you're doing what you’re doing: keeping Gotham safe.” Batman looked at Barbara with calculating eyes before he stepped into the Batmobile.
“Get in. I’m taking you home.”
-
After dropping Barbara home, Bruce wasn’t expecting to find yet another unwanted visitor in the Cave.
“Hey, um..hi.” The boy said, Batman wondering why the Drakes’ kid was doing in his Cave.
Sure, the two families have never talked to each other, but Bruce made it his business to investigate them thoroughly. “My name’s Tim. Tim Drake. I...I know you’re Bruce Wayne and I knew who Robin was too, but that’s not why I’m here!” Tim quickly added when he noticed Batman approach him with narrowed eyes. “I..I wanted to ask you something else.”
“Then speak.” Bruce growled, towering over the boy, but Tim didn’t back down from his glare.
“Where’s Amira, your daughter?”
-
Amira looked at the picture on her phone, not realizing how much she was squeezing it until her hand started to ache. Scowling, Amira threw her phone against her wall, yelling as she began to thrash her room. Thankfully, half of her things were still in boxes and the Dupain-Chengs were out for the day.
It hasn’t even been two months since Amira arrived in Paris, not even one year since Jason’s death and yet...and yet! He dared to replace him!
Amira recalled the headline on the Gotham Gazette’s latest issue.
FINALLY BACK! : ROBIN’S FIRST APPEARANCE AFTER TWO MONTHS OF SILENCE
As if that wasn’t enough, when she scrolled further down the article, she was met with another revelation. Batgirl.
She remembered the years of pleading with her father to let her join him, to let her help keep Gotham safe and each time she asked, her father dismissed her out of hand.
She knew how to operate the Batcomputer, she knew she could have worked perfectly with Jason, she knew how he operated, she knew she was ready...but he always shut her down.
And yet when this girl comes around, he quickly accepts her? Just like that?
This girl who came out of nowhere... This girl who probably knows next to nothing on how he operates? On what it meant to wear the infamous bat emblem on her person?
He lets her join him?
Amira stopped throwing her things, quickly going to pick them up and putting them back into place.
Maybe this is why her father sent her to Paris, using his ‘concern for her safety’ as an excuse to kick her out of Gotham. To make her leave so he can replace her with someone else. If that was the case...then fine…
Let him keep replacing them.
Let him do what he wants, because guess what?
She too is going to do what she wants, whether he likes it or not.
-
Months passed by, it finally being September, Amira finally having adapted to her new home. But just as she started to adapt to her new life, another thing was hurdled her way.
College Françoise Dupont.
Her father insisted she attend this school, one of the few reminders that he had control over every aspect of her life.
Sighing, Amira made her way to school. She stared at the stairs that lead to the school, scoffing at the size of it.
To be honest it looked like the size of her old school’s library. That or perhaps Amira just forgot how Gotham Academy’s library truly was in size.
Knowing that she had no other choice, Amira walked into the school and hunted for her class, looking at her timetable and at the numbers of the doors within the school.
Something she quickly realized was that she was right. This school was small. Too small for her liking.
She managed to find her class, located on the second floor of the building, a bit too close to the stairs if you asked her.
Stepping into her classroom, she was met with several pairs of eyes. Ignoring them, Amira headed to the teacher, remembering everything she had researched before transferring to this school.
Caline Bustier - her main teacher and her teacher for French, literature, and poetry.
From what Amira could remember, Bustier is a supposed passionate teacher, eager to protect and nurture her students, hence why she has had the same class for the past several years. Apparently she begged the principal to let her keep teaching the same class year after year.
While yes, it did show her love for her students, Amira took it as a sign of fear. Fear of not being able to teach another group of students that weren’t the ones she had already taught before. Students that she knew how to control, not having to start from scratch to learn about their weaknesses and strengths. She feared failure, perhaps change.
“Hello, Miss Bustier. My name is Marinette-”
“So you’re Marinette!” Miss Bustier interrupted, causing Marinette to narrow her eyes and scrunch her nose in annoyance. “I’m so glad to have you in our class! Please take a seat!”
Marinette simply stood there, looking at her class and then at Miss Bustier. “I can sit anywhere?”
“Pardon?” Miss Bustier asked, tilting her head a bit. That’s when it hit her. “Oh! That’s right! You’ve recently transferred from-”
“Can I or can I not?” Marinette asked impatiently.
“Y-Yes. You can sit anywhere you want.” Miss Bustier stammered, watching Marinette choose the seat in the front towards her left.
Marinette proceeded to take out her notebook and go over her classes, taking mental notes on what supplies to buy and which she didn’t.
Everything was going swell, the class slowly filling in until a certain brat entered the class.
“Move aside! Your Queen is coming through.” Chloé announces as Sabrina made sure that her path was clear.
Chloé Bourgeois, the daughter of Paris’ mayor. Nothing but a spoiled brat from Marinette’s research. As long as she steered away from Chloe, she was fine.
With Chloé being the last person to enter, Miss Bustier started the class.
-
Hell. It was utter hell.
Marinette held the urge to drag her hands down her face at how boring French was.
Despite already being 13 year olds, they were going over material that Marinette knew they covered during Ecole Primaire. Why was Miss Bustier still teaching this material?
With the sound of the bell, her class started to move around when Miss Bustier called out Ivan.
Turning around, Marinette watched as Ivan was about to punch Kim. Within seconds, Marinette put herself between Ivan and Kim, staring at Ivan.
“What is going on?” Marinette asked, hating herself that she still managed to get into anti-bullying mode thanks to being in the role for five straight years.
“It's Kim.” Ivan growled, Marinette noticing Kim shift in his place. “I’m going to-“
“Punching him won’t do anything.” Marinette cut off, noticing that Miss Bustier still hadn’t bothered to come up to the two boys to see what was wrong. “If anything, it might prove you guilty rather than innocent.”
Marinette watched as Ivan lowered his arm, only then Marinette noticing the paper in his hand. “Kim. What do you have to say for yourself?”
“I didn’t do anything!” Kim cried out. “Ivan just suddenly wanted to hit me!“
Marinette glared at him as she took the info, gesturing Ivan to hand over the paper in his hand. Hesitantly, he did.
Reading the paper, Marinette knew who started it. Turning to her teacher, she frowned. “Miss Bustier, I’m pretty sure you’re familiar with my old school, correct?”
“Yes.” Miss Bustier replied. “Gotham Academy, if I remember correctly.” Marinette ignored the waves of gasps that rippled through the class.
Was her school that known? Or simply because Gotham was in the name?
“As you know, Gotham Academy is well known for its anti-bullying program, for I was the head student of that program for 5 years straight. So my question is, what haven’t you moved?”
“Pardon?”
“I said: why haven’t you moved? Instead of rushing here to see what actually happened here or to even dismantle the fight, you decided to just stand there and watch. You called out Kim. While I understand that you were worried about Kim, what about Ivan?”
“Ivan?” Miss Bustier repeated, wondering where exactly Marinette was going with this. “Ivan was going to hit Kim, so of course I was going to worry about Kim! As a teacher-“
“But what about Ivan?” Marinette asked again. How she hated when people didn’t answer her questions properly. “What were you planning to tell him? Or rather, what were you thinking when you saw Ivan raise his hand against Kim?”
“I...I was going to send him to the prin-“
“Then you failed him as a teacher.” Marinette cut off, walking up to Miss Bustier. “As a teacher, you’re supposed to be there for the students, meaning remaining neutral during arguments. As a neutral party, you have to look at both sides of the story.” Marinette slammed the crumbled piece of paper against her desk. “You were just about to make the situation worse by sending the victim to the principal rather than the person who started the problem.”
Marinette went to grab her bag and stared at Miss Bustier. “If you were a teacher at my old school and someone reported this incident the way it almost happened, you would’ve had your teaching license suspended and sent to several anti bullying workshops. You would then be re-evaluated to see if you can teach again. If not, you would be fired then and there. So word of advice Miss Bustier, don’t let the spark turn into a flame when you have the chance to snuff it out.”
Marinette left the classroom, heading to her next class. Hopefully she would be able to convince her gym teacher to get her into the fencing club. She needed to blow off some steam.
-
There went her chance at asking the teacher to join the fencing team.
As soon as Marinette got to persuade the coach to teach her how to fence, a villain appeared, wrecking havoc with her...whatever it was she was using.
Thanks to the attack, the students were sent home early, Marinette now in her room. She frowned as she paced around in her room, hating her situation.
There was a villain. In Paris. Where her father couldn’t reach her. The irony.
Marinette let out a dry chuckle, not believing this all.
“Father is across the ocean, there’s a villain running loose in the streets and here I am! Missing the opportunity of a lifetime!”
She would have proven herself to her father. That she was up for crime fighting.
But the universe just had to be against her...or so she thought.
As she slumped into her computer chair, she noticed the black box with an ever so familiar red emblem on the top of the hexagon shaped lid.
Something screamed at her to leave it alone while a piece of her whispered to open it.
Prying the box open, Marinette watched as a red orb manifested in front of her, her eyes following it as it morphed into an odd creature. Making sure the creature was what emerged from the box, Marinette looked back down to the box, noticing a pair of earrings.
Ladybug themed earrings...o...okay…
“Hello!” The being spoke, Marinette quickly snapping from her trance. “I know this is all weird to you, but I can explain. My name is Tikki and I am a Kwami. To be more precise, the Kwami of creation.”
Kwami of creation...that implies that there are others like this creature out there.
“Tikki...although I want to say that it’s a pleasure to meet you, I know there’s a reason behind you gracing me with your presence.” Tikki nodded, handing Marinette over the earrings.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng. I need you to take down Remediator.”
-
After Tikki laid down the groundwork on how her miraculous worked, Marinette got to work.
She managed to track down Remediator, surveying her action before deciding on a plan to take down the...akuma?
No, that was the name of the thing that possessed her teacher. Villain would be the better term.
As she watched Remediator ‘fix’ people’s problems, Marinette couldn’t help but notice the heart located on Remediator’s chest fill up, almost as if it fed off - no.
It did feed off of the problems Remediator supposedly fixed. Now, how exactly was she-
“Get away from them!” someone shouted, Marinette looking to the direction of which the voice came from that was about to attack Remediator.
A blond boy cladded in black -black leather to be more precise- extended his bo staff to try and fling the ‘villain’ away from her new set of prey.
Sighing, Marinette sprung from her hiding spot and prevented the boy from hitting the ‘villain,’ earning a glare and a ‘hey’ from the boy.
“What were you thinking?” Marinette growled, crossing her arms.
“Well hello to you too.” The boy said, eyeing Marinette’s odd choice of wearing a black slit miniskirt and short black cape over her red skin tight bodysuit. “To think such a bossy-” the boy promptly shut up when Marinette glared at him.
“I’m going to forget what you just said if you answer my previous question. What were you thinking?”
“I was thinking of defeating the villain. Isn’t that our job?” The boy asked in response.
“Yes, it’s our job to-”
“Then let’s go! The people-”
“The people are alright.” Marinette spoke, pinching the bridge of her nose. “If anything, the akumatized person isn’t really doing much.” Marinette filled in, watching the boy tilt his head. How did he not notice the victim actually helping solve people’s problem despite being dubbed a villain? “Are you being serious right now?” Marinette dragged her hands over her face. “Are you telling me you haven’t been trying to investigate the victim to see if they’re truly hurting anyone?”
When she saw the boy slowly shake his head, Marinette let out a heavy sigh.
“What? I see a villain, I quickly head over and fight them off. It’s our job after all.”
“Our job is to protect the people, but that doesn’t mean we have to ruthlessly attack the victim or villain. Since we don’t know the full capacity of their powers, we have to proceed cautiously. We also have to make sure they destroy as little property as possible.” Marinette warned, the boy arching a brow. Just how much did he not realize? “We don’t know if the damage they cause is permanent or not...we don’t want innocent people to die, or do we?”
She watched as the boy’s eyes widened, only then his role finally sinking in. Marinette watched as the boy looked down at his hands, trembling more as he kept staring at them.
“So what are we supposed to do?” The boy asked Marinette, looking at her with fear in his eyes.
“De-escalate the situation.” Marinette said, only then realizing something. “What’s your name?”
“Adri-”
“Not your actual name you idiot. We mustn’t know each other's identities under any circumstance!” Marinette warned. “So, what’s your alias?” The boy hummed before he smiled.
“Chat. Chat Noir. What about you?”
“Ladybird.” Ladybird provided quickly, raising a brow when Chat Noir looked at her in...admiration? “What?”
“Not only did you already have your outfit down, but also your name. Have you been Ladybird for a while?”
“Nope. Been Ladybird for a few hours.” The two were snapped from their conversation when they heard a scream nearby. “Come on Chat, we have a victim to help.”
-
After an hour of trying to calm the victim down, but coming to no avail (since Ladybird couldn’t exactly bring her Marinette to her), the duo resorted to fighting the victim, finding her akuma to be trapped in a piece of paper tucked in her skirt pocket.
Ordering Chat to take Miss Bustier back to the school, Ladybird stood below the Eiffel Tower.
“De-evilize.” Ladybird said as she captured the akuma, purifying it with her yo-yo and then releasing it. “Miraculous Ladybug!” Ladybird shouted as she then threw her yo-yo in the air as Tikki had told her, watching as millions of ladybugs erupted from her tiny yo-yo and spread throughout Paris, fixing any damage and reversing the victim’s effects on any person inflicted by the victim’s power.
“That was amazing!” A girl shouted from across the police tape, Ladybird turning to see her classmate...or rather her seat ‘buddy’. Alya is her name...if Marinette remembered correctly. “Say, can we know the name of the hero who just finished saving Paris?” Alya asked, smiling as she watched Ladybird approach her.
“The name’s Ladybird, but I am no hero. I’m just doing what I must to keep Paris safe.” With those words, Ladybird ran off, using her yo-yo to lift herself onto a building and disappear into the distance.
-
Stepping into her room, Amira finally let herself relax.
“Tikki, spots off.” Amira recited, watching her transformation wear off. Just as she was about to ask Tikki for her end of the deal, a voice spoke up.
“What is the meaning of this?” Amira whipped her head around, her eyes wide before narrowing upon seeing her father.
“What are you doing here?”
“Did you really think I wouldn’t find a way to keep knowing of your activities outside of Gotham?” Bruce asked, looking at her monitors at her desk. It was only then that Amira understood what he meant by that.
“You hacked into my devices from across the ocean?” Amira gritted. “Was isolating me not enough for you, so you had to resort towards invading my privacy too?” She didn’t get a response.
“When I heard that there was a villain in Paris-” Bruce continued, walking to her small window that was across from where he stood.
“Don’t-” a whine. “She wasn’t a villain! The true mastermind manipulated her emotions and took advantage of it to turn her-”
“That doesn’t matter.” Bruce stated. “She was still putting you in danger, whether directly or indirectly. But judging from your entrance and outfit, I’m going to guess that it was directly.”
“I was able to defend myself. I was able to defeat her.” Amira pointed out, not bringing up that thanks to her suit being magical, all of her injuries were healed once dropping her transformation. She didn’t want to give him any more flaws to tear apart. “Some random stranger had more confidence in me being able to take down a villain than you ever-”
“They were lucky that you knew what you were doing. That you had experience in martial arts and weaponry. Or did you forget who trained you?” Bruce reminded, making Amira shrink into herself, because...he had a point.
“But-”
“Not to mention how much of a deadweight your partner was.”
“He-”
“He relied on you to keep catching him, to keep directing him. All he did was follow your orders, never once thinking for himself or trying to guess your next step. What good is a partner if all they do is create more work for you?” Bruce asked, watching Amira shut up. “Did you really think this situation-”
“Yes.” Amira answered. “And I wasn’t wrong. I-”
Amira was cut off by a video appearing on her main monitor’s screen. A video addressed to her...or rather Ladybird.
He introduced himself as Hawkmoth, declaring himself as Ladybird’s and Chat Noir’s enemy. Declaring that he was after their miraculous and wouldn’t stop until he had them. Once the video ended, Amira felt her father’s shadow loom over her.
“Hand them over.”
“What?” Amira squeaked out, making sure to keep looking at her father. She couldn’t afford to hand them over. So to prevent that, she had to avoid looking at the box at her desk and try to not shield the earrings she was wearing. “No! I’m not going to hand them over just because you said so!”
“Amira, hand them over. If that man is after these miraculouses, then I need you to hand them over. I won’t allow him-”
“I vowed to protect them! To keep them away from the enemy that is Hawkmoth and he will not get his hands on them! Nor will I allow you to have them either.” Amira promised, taking a stance. “If you want them from me, you’ll have to-“ Amira called back her transformation, watching her father stare at her with wide eyes. “You will have to take them from my cold dead body! After all, you don’t need me, just like you didn’t need Jason! We are so easily replaceable after all.”
“Amira, what are you-”
At that moment, her ceiling began to rumble, causing the two of them to go on alert. Soon, someone crashed through her small skylight, cement falling into her room while dust filled in the remaining space.
With the dust making her lose sight of her father, Amira kept her guard up when she quickly turned around to avoid being hit from behind.
“Amira! Where are you?” She heard her father ask, but she didn’t respond. Who knew if this was part of his plan. Who knew if this was his way of telling her he would get his way no matter what.
Amira dodged another attack to her side, Amira crouching to avoid it while also sweeping her leg under her opponent, only to find out he was able to fly. Looking up to the person before her, she froze.
He was glowing green, also wearing a domino mask across his face.
“Sorry kid. But we were left with no choice but to take you by force.”
“Wha-” Amira’s words were cut short when she felt someone else behind her.
The last thing Amira remembered was a beautiful woman giving her an apologetic look as Amira fell to the ground. Had she remained conscious for a while longer, she would’ve heard her father crying out her name, agony coating his voice.
