#i am unfamiliar with DC canon

So I’m new to reading comics. I’m not someone who grew up with access to them, and no one in my immediate or extended family really were into them, and, to the best of my knowledge, most of my friends were in a similar boat. Basically, I’m an adult, and I’m new to comics, and I’m really enjoying exploring them.
I’m bringing this up because I found my way into DC comics via tumblr, which is arguably still the most centralized hub of fandom life, which means I entered through the recent issues. Because I’m me, I also immediately started making shitposts. Inevitably these shitposts have broken out of my dumb curated little enclosure to interact with bits of the fandom I’m generally unfamiliar with. Namely, gatekeepers.
Throwing this under a cut so it’s easily bypassable 👍
It has happened with literally all of my Batman posts that break ~500 notes. People show up in the tags to rant about how sick they are of people on tumblr getting characters wrong, or not understanding canon, or getting mad because of something getting ignored that happened in canon 20+ years ago. They start off by attacking immediately, and getting angry, and ranting about how new fans are so awful/annoying/stupid/etc.
I’ve been in fandom spaces for Far Too Long, so I’m used to dealing with input like this. But if 14/15/16 year old me was met with the kind of vitriol that shows up in my notifications sometimes? She would’ve disengaged with the material entirely and never interacted with the fandom again. She would’ve actively told people to stay out of those spaces because of how mean and unwelcoming many of the people were to her.
Listen: I do get it. It’s frustrating when someone misunderstands a thing you love. I really truly do understand. At the same time, though, we’re talking about characters who have been appearing for 20, 30, 50, 80 years. Characters who have had hard resets and retcons done 3+ times. Characters who have been written by tens or hundreds of different writers and drawn by just as wide a range of artists. It is next to impossible to pick one version of any of them that is The Definitive Version.
And to use myself as an example? Like I said, I’ve been reading these comics since March-ish. I work full time. I hang out with friends. I am querying an original book. I’m reading other books. I need to cook and clean and grocery shop and take walks and get writing done. Most weeks, I spend 1-2 hours reading comics, if that. I had to start somewhere, so I went with some Tim-centric runs (Lonely Place of Dying, the Contagion arc, Battle for the Cowl, Red Robin and related issues, and am now right around where Steph has the baby in his Robin run) and am now wading into Nightwing (1996). So the versions of the characters in my head are related to these moments in time, the early/mid nineties and 2009/2010ish eras. Those versions of the characters may also directly contradict your version, and that’s okay!
What’s not okay is how people immediately see a post and assume the worst instead of taking the opportunity to introduce a new fan to your version of these comics. Taking 2 seconds to be kind is the same amount of time it takes to rip someone’s head off. Like, instead of “jfc, I can’t believe this is framed as a joke when it’s canon, I’m so sick of this, try opening a comic,” try, “Hey guys! This is actually in canon! If you like this concept, check out these runs/issues for how it plays out.”
You all have a really great opportunity to expand your fandom in a dynamic and interesting way. It just makes me sad and a little frustrated to see people moaning about how comics aren’t appreciated enough, and then actively chasing away people who are new to them. No one is going to be able to absorb nearly a century’s worth of content overnight, and expecting them to stay out of fandom spaces until they have a sufficient knowledge base (whatever that means to you) literally defeats the point of fandom.
EDIT: also, just a quick note, for every interaction I’ve had with a gatekeeper in some way, I’ve had 3 interactions with wonderful and helpful people who have directed me to runs/issues that I may enjoy. This is definitely not an “all fans” complaint. There are just some very loud voices that sure are yelling a lot.
Anyway.
Those are my Monday thoughts.
Do with them what you will.

Was that [MACKENYU]? Oh no no, that was just [KAUL HILOSHUDON], a [CANON CHARACTER] from [THE GREEN BONE SAGA]. They are [TWENTY SEVEN] years old, use [HE/HIM], and [ARE] aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they can’t stray from this city for long.
Tumblr media
the first book of this series is 500 pages long and i read it in mostly one sitting; when i say these characters have a chokehold on me i am not exaggerating sadly. that being said, this is kaul hiloshudon, aka hilo, and there are minor spoilers under the cut for jade city book 1
how long has your character been here
he's been here maybe a handful of days at most. still trying to get his bearings here.
what is your character’s job
uhhhhh yeah so being that he just showed up, hilo doesn't have an official job, but obviously he's going to try to establish No Peak here as well, who gives a fuck if this is dc and not kekon he can't not do what he can to reestablish the clan
where has your character been pulled from in their fandom
the end of book 1, jade city, just after his falling out with anden
has any magic affected your character
nope, all of his jade-given abilities are still in play, and he has all of his memories up through where i pulled him from.
and any other information you might find useful for us and the other members to know:
basically, for those of you unfamiliar, the green bone saga is about warring clans in a city on an island called kekon, set in ambiguously modern day but not so modern that they have cell phones. think like 70s/80s rival gang vibes.
hilo's from the kaul family, the heads of No Peak clan. his grandfather was the Pillar (the clan leader), and since his father had died, hilo's older brother lan became the Pillar. hilo acted as the Horn, who was in charge of military operations in the clan, the head of defending their areas of the city and protecting the businesses of their investors and supporters. basically, he was the head of the brawn of the operation, not really involved in or experienced with the politics of it all
SPOILERS TW: after his older brother lan's untimely death, hilo is left to become the Pillar, a position that he's certainly not as comfortable with, but which he takes because of his dedication to his family and to No Peak. he is also out for revenge against the rival clan that contributed to his brother's death, and wants to-- if not destroy them completely, then at the very least make sure his own clan doesn't fall at their hands.
he's a very skilled fighter, in part due to his skill in wielding jade, which helps enhance a variety of abilities (Lightness, Strength, Channelling, Deflection, Perception, etc). in kekon, when you beat another green bone, you can rightfully take their jade and add it to your own collection; hilo embeds his pieces of jade into the skin of his collarbone.
personality information: his sheer passion is what stands out most-- his passion for defending his family and for defeating his enemies, especially. he's equally passionate about violence and love. he can be charming if he wants to be, but can be just as aggressive and abrasive and he tends to be incredibly impulsive if not held back. he says he'll forgive you, but he'll also forget he said that two weeks later, because he really won't ever get over any perceived slight or betrayal; he's very sensitive and will take offense to almost anything. he's described as believing he loves his family more than they love him. he attempts to do right by those who are loyal to him.
in terms of plots, possible ideas for connections: definitely business associates, he'll be very boldly offering the protection of his one-man clan lmfao, he'll also need neighbors, some kind of friends he can get along with, people to train/practice fighting with, people to genuinely butt heads with, people who will encourage him to give into his impulses, people who can try to help him make some better/more thoughtful decisions, all sorts of options for plots and connections.

So, this is the backup account for @submissiveking99
For now I will not be using this blog much, if not at all. It is just in case of emergancies
This blog is gonna go silent until something bad happens on my other blog. Outside updates to muse lists and what not to keep everything up to date
I Shall see you all when I see ya
Info about the writer
I am Birtish. And live in the UK. So time zone, and my spellings tend to be Birtish English
I work Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. So I am very busy those days
I'm normally on later in the days, from around 7 onwards or so. Some days I am on earlier
Basic rules
You've got to be at least 18 years old or higher to RP
Don't be a dick. To the writer or the characters, unless said so
Be patient. Life is life, everyone can be busy with work and what not. But if it has been a few days, just poke me over DM's
No one liners, at least three sentences
I am more than happy with multiverse fucking. Don't need a DC character to fuck a DC character
OC friendly
I RP in 3rd person. Never 1st.
I think I'd prefer to RP in threads for now, but I am happy to chat in DM's for planning out the RP or just general chatting
Bellow are a series of Kink's that are a big 'no' for me
Anything toilet related. Scat, golden showers, any of it
Diapers
Age play
Scent kinks (stuff like "Oh, you stink so good" or stuff like that)
Guro/blood/any general bodily harm
M/M
Loli/Shota
Mind control
Also, this isn't really a kink, but I am not a big fan of Batcest. Any of Bruce Wayne's adopted kids with each other. So basically Cass with anybofbthe Robin's, or Bruce himself.
Here are a few muses that are blacklisted and who I will NOT interact with:
-Jaques Schnee (RWBY)
-Tyrian Callows (RWBY)
-James Ironwood (RWBY)

I would like to add, I am willing to make certain exceptions if I like RP-ing with you enough, or we get along well.
Here are a few lists of the Muses I use, at least the canon ones. Tend not to use OC's too often. Multiple lists for orginization, plus images so people not familiar with the franchises know who they are. Also, to be clear, all characters are portrayed as 18 or older. And all of my characters are switches. Can be the Dom or the Sub for the scenarios
Here is a master list, leading you to lists of my Muses broken down by franchises. And they have pics, for those unfamiliar with said characters
And here is a list of all of my Open RP starters

hi! do you write with canon characters, particularly ones from the mcu and dceu?
it depends! as long as i don't have to do a shit ton of research before writing with a canon character then i am open to potentially writing against them. but if their backstory is particularly complicated and important, or i'm unfamiliar/uncomfortable with the fandom, the answer will probably be no.
as for m.cu characters, i am not caught up with everything but i have seen enough to probably get by if you were writing one of the more heavily featured characters. but just keep in mind you're talking to someone who only went to see age of ultron because i wanted to fuck the big maniacal robot so... i guess don't expect too much from me? but i could probably keep up with m.cu characters as long as it wasn’t too lore-heavy. as for d.ceu, i'm wayyy behind. in fact, i'm not 100% sure i even known what movies are in the d.ceu and what ones aren't anymore. i'm familiar with the dc comics and video games though, probably more so than i am the movies, so that may be an option? so i suppose in all, when it comes to canon characters, it just depends on how you write them and what you're looking for with them? because if you want someone well-versed in the fandom/character then i am likely not the writer for you. hope this answer helps <3

Hello. I have a few questions, for you. Of course, you don't have to answer them, if you don't want to.
What is your opinion on Star wars? How did you come to it?
Do you prefer canon or legends? If you have a preference, why is that?
Do you have experiences With dc comics? Do you have a favorite hero, of this certain comic company? If yes, why?
Do you think that palpatine's return, in both legends and canon, changes anything about Vader's death? Do you think that vader killing the emperor, and the emperor coming back, makes Vader's death seem not as important?
What is your opinion on Luke saying that, he wouldn't go after caedus, because he knew that he couldn't hold himself back from killing him?
Do you think that yoda is a good teacher? If yes, why? If no, why?
What is your opinion on dumbledore, from the Harry Potter series?
I thank you for your time, and hope you have a great morning, day or night.
Hello, mo1475! I’m happy to answer questions :) Though I've probably ranted excessively…
I am familiar with Star Wars, and I have a generally good opinion of the content I’ve interacted with; however, it’s been some time since I last interacted with the franchise in earnest, so I’m not familiar with the more recent series.
I’d assume I prefer canon? I haven’t seen Legends, so I can’t give a definitive answer to this one.
I do have knowledge of DC, though it’s more in the form of “I’ve read enough fanfiction to understand the plot points” than “I’ve read the comics”. I have watched some episodes of The Flash and Arrow, among other things, but I’ve never even touched a DC comic book. And yes, I do have a favourite DC hero, with no competition for the title: Red Robin | Tim Drake. It’s hard to explain why I like him, especially since I’ve only been familiar with the fanon version of him. I just think he’s neat. (If I had to pick a second favourite, it would probably be another member of the Batfam—most likely Cass)
Unlike many Star Wars fans, I don’t have a very strong opinion about Palpatine’s return, though in response to your question, I must say that it does take away from Vader’s death. I barely remember anything about the original six movies (I haven’t watched them in years), but Vader’s death is one scene I do remember. Anything that takes away from the significance of that scene, which stuck in even a child’s mind, is a bad choice in writing, in my opinion.
I’m unfamiliar with this plot point. I… have no idea who caedus is.
I don’t really have an opinion on Yoda. I’ve always thought the lore around him was a little weird; I didn’t pay much attention to it. I suppose he must, to some extent, have been a good teacher, since Luke won, but there’s also Dooku, so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Dumbledore… feels unimportant. I never focused on him much as a character because of that. I liked learning his backstory, but that was probably the only time I cared about him. I found him boring and preferred to obsess over Hermione, Remus, Hedwig, Draco, and Professor McGonagall. It felt like Dumbledore did nothing to advance the plot… and then died. Beyond that—and I’m probably being too harsh because of this—it’s frustrating that J. K. Rowling declared he was gay to get representation points without putting anything into the books about it. I understand clarifying sexualities outside of source material when they’re ambiguous, but there should have been enough evidence in the text for people to infer that he wasn’t straight.
Thank you for the ask! I enjoyed answering—gave me a good break from the crippling weight of deadlines. I hope you have a good morning, day or night as well!

@quickdeaths asked:  light🗣️ plus whichever emoji means 'I have a lot of characters and idk who you are interested in which makes me unsure of who to send asks from/like starter calls for/etc'
Why aren’t we interacting meme - Accepting! For mutuals I’m not writing with, please send this in. I use this as an icebreaker to reach out through IMs to plot and/or send you prompts!
Tumblr media
🗣️ — i don’t have any ideas for plots readily available.
Yeah, it can be hard to come up with plots sometimes! I tend to rely on memes for starter ideas, at least with muns I don’t interact with regularly. For those who do, they’ll tell you that I will shitpost in IMs or discord at random hours with “THIS IS AN IDEA DO YOU LIKE IT”
That said, I really do have trouble interacting with multimuses unless there’s a single muse, or very few, that a mun wants to throw my way. Because what usually happens is the following:
1. I am completely unfamiliar with all of a multi’s canon muses and/or list of OCs and haven’t had the blog on my dash long enough to see how their muses interact in threads (instead of just a character profile).
or
2. I select a muse to interact with and the mun doesn’t want to write that particular muse, even though they’re listed as available to interact with.
And yes, 1 and 2 can both happen in the same interaction, which can make it even more frustrating. I generally try to approach multis with an open mind and letting them say who they’re feeling like writing at any given time. In most cases, I find it easier to write with muns of multimuses if they’re excited about whom they’re writing with or have ideas for! I’ve had so many experiences of picking the ‘wrong’ muse when asked to choose, or a multi wishing “I wish you showed interest in this muse instead,” when I’d really just reply with “Okay, then let’s have that muse and my muse interact instead! That’s fine by me.”
In your case though? It’s a given that Maki is always welcome in my inbox or threads, but you have a great roster of Danganronpa OCs too! If you’re feeling like writing any of them, we can always put our muses in Hope’s Peak/Non-Despair settings. You’ve put a lot of thought into your OCs from what I can see in their profiles, and I think it would be fun to interact with them.
Otherwise, I’m somewhat familiar with DC movies and some of the earlier animated shows from the 90s (though I was really young when I saw them), so you could throw Jason Todd my way too (though we may need to plot it out a bit! It’s not my forte).
Those are my initial thoughts anyway, but if there’s another muse you’d be interested in having interact with Sonia please let me know. Most of the time I’m pretty open and flexible.

Clark Kent x Lex Luthor. This is the definitive Enemies to Lovers. Or rather Friends to Enemies to Lovers except that they’re not lovers but COME ON we all know who they dream about at night. So they’ll probably reunite in the afterlife and become lovers there? I want to believe.

SOPHIES WRITING COMMISSIONS.
Hi everyone! My names Sophie, I’m 22 years old and I’ve been interested in being a writer for many years now. So much so, that I’ve taken part in a few competitions, having been published when I was younger and have been honing my writing skills for years - and I’m excited to share that with all of you!
WHAT WILL YOU WRITE?
If there’s something you want to read but you don’t want / don’t have the time to write it, I’m here to do it for you! My specialities however in terms of genres are fantasy, angst and romance, whilst my specialty tropes are found family, enemies to friends to lovers, backstory, slow burn and canon divergence. I’m willing to branch out of these tropes / genres if requested, though.
WHAT WILL YOU NOT WRITE?
I refuse to write about underage smut, pedophillia, incest, non-consensual acts, real life celebrities or violence specified against lgbt+ characters. This is because of my uncomfortableness surrounding these topics and to ensure it there is a safe and healthy environment for vulnerable people in this space. Please be respectful of this.
WHO WILL YOU WRITE FOR?
Currently, my interests lie in bringing DnD characters, homebrew or otherwise, to life. Currently, this is what I am primarily focused on in terms of my writing, but in terms of past fandoms, I’ve written for fandoms such as hunter x hunter, rotg, criminal minds, the dragon prince, c!mcyt, bnha, DC / Marvel and many others. I am willing to research other fandoms however if I am requested a piece for them, in order to get as close a representation of the chosen characters as possible. However, I will be focussing primarily on DnD storylines.
HOW DOES THIS ALL WORK?
Firstly, we’ll discuss the length of your written piece, the themes you would like presented, genre, trope types, anything else you may want present. With this information, I’ll create an outline with you that we can tweak until it fits the story flow you would like. For full payment, you can either tip my ko-fi jar, check out my patreon or directly pay via my PayPal the agreed amount. Throughout the process, you’ll receive two free updates on your piece before completion in order to allow it to be tweaked and to measure its progress and once completed, you’ll receive it in a pdf file through email or a link to a Google doc you can access, whichever you choose to be easier.
PRICES?
In terms of prices, 500 words starts at £7.60 / $10, and increases at the same rate for higher word counts e.g. £15.25 / $20 for 1k, £22.90 / $30 for 2k, etc. There is a £2 / $2.60 research fee also, for unfamiliar fandoms / content. I am currently accepting five slots for now.
SAMPLE ONE / SAMPLE TWO / SAMPLE THREE

On this blog’s canon... Ed is actually aware of the existence of Marvel characters. Why? Because I always loved the idae of Marvel and DC’s universes coexisting. Just because I really enjoyed in the 90s when they could crossover. I loved reading the Daredevil & Batman crossovers. Really wish Eddie would’ve made an appearance in them. Would’ve LOVED seeing him interact with Daredevil. And since I enjoy both... I just love the idea they can coexist.
However, Ed isn’t aware of other comic book characters (outside of DC & Marvel) existence, unless it would make sense for him to, or I’m plotting with a mun of such a character. Just because not only am I unfamiliar with most comics - but also just for the same reason above, I just enjoy the idea of Marvel & DC coexisting. And I think they can. After all... Spider-Man is just in New York, whilst Eddie is in New Jersey. It could easily work imo.

Spotlight Post: Canon Soulmate Bonds
Yooo, this is a blog takeover, Mizzy here, ready to champion one of my favourite fictional causes: canonical soulbonds in the Marvel universe.
We all love a good soulbond fic. Words on your body, names on your wrist, red string of fate...so many glorious versions, and all of them *completely awesome*. The problem sometimes with starting a soulbond fic, though, can be all the worldbuilding required to make it work. But what if I was to tell you that no worldbuilding was necessary? That you could technically write a soulbond fic without having to set it in an Alternate Universe? What if you could set your soulbond fic *directly in main canon?*
Marvel 616 delivers you a canonical soulbond mechanic… not once… but at least *twice*. There could be more. There’s a lot of comics to go through and I’m only smol. But here’s the two I know about and I’m here to introduce you to today. :)
The was a ripple of mild confusion around fandom when Kevin Feige announced that the Eternals were getting a title movie in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Created by Jack Kirby in the 1970s, in a wild combination of mythological fascination and spite at DC comics for not letting him finish his New Gods saga, the Eternals were an offshoot of humanity, created by the Celestials for humanity’s protection; this reason for their existence would lead them into their ongoing conflict against the deadly Deviants. There have been a few Eternals runs (notably one run by Neil Gaiman, which did not serve to bring the Eternals the commercial success Marvel was searching for with the title, that nevertheless remains the most fun and accessible Eternals volume), but they’ve not yet really reached wide-reaching traction among even the most die-hard comic fans. The MCU might change that, and here’s hoping, because I love these nearly-immortal idiots, and I’m hoping not to be alone in that for much longer. :D
But even my Eternals-happy soul has to admit, Eternals canon for the most part is dense and can be convoluted, and the spellings—both of their character names and one of the main fun parts of their existence, the Mahd W’yry—are enough to give one a headache. The idea of the Eternals is that they’re long-lived and have interacted with human history over the years in various impactful ways. You might think at first glance that you’ve never heard of the Eternals Sersi, Ikaris, Makkari, but I think you wouldn’t find Circe, Icarus, or Mercury unfamiliar names.
The Mahd W’yry is a symptom of the Eternals being so long-living. In order to stop them going insane, the Eternals have to bond into something known as the Uni-Mind, which basically squishes all their consciousnesses together into one, where they can share memories and blend temporarily into one mind. Regularly bonding into the Uni-Mind allows them to stave off the Mahd W’yry. (Yep, that’s just a headache-inducing spelling of ‘mad worry’, we know.)
Anyway, did you need to know all this? Eh, maybe, a little bit of canned backstory is always handy for you to briefly glance over and promptly forget. Because along with some dense mythological adventures, some glorious angsting across beautiful landscapes, and that ability to turn into a big massive floating brain, the Eternals also gave us a beautiful gift:
The Gann Josin.
In Avengers #361, Ikaris comes down to Earth and decides that Sersi needs to be bonded to Dane Whitman, an Avenger who canonically didn’t have any powers, he was just a *really good guy*, destined for tragedy. Honestly. That’s his bio. Really good guy. Destined for tragedy. The character creation in the 90s was peak talent. Dane, sadly, was in love with another woman, but did this matter to Ikaris? No. Apparently the Eternals don’t know about the dangers of letting himbos like Ikaris have life-changing powers, like the ability to create the Uni-Mind.
Because the power to control the Uni-Mind also gives an Eternal the power to form a Gann Josin bond. And that’s what Ikaris does in Avengers #361—he forces a Gann Josin bond on Eternal Sersi and tragic human Avenger Dane Whitman.
Tumblr media
Gann Josin (sometimes Gan-Josin because what is spelling continuity in Marvel comics) is both the name of the bond, and the title given to an Eternal and their chosen life-mate. It has a bunch of cool side effects. Both Gann Josins get glowing full-red eyes. It’s a really intimate tiny form of the Uni-Mind (without the part where you become a big floating brain), and creates a small scale mental union. The Gann Josin bond makes the Eternal and their partner lifelong soulmates. As the bond progresses, it creates a telepathic/empathic bond that strengthens in time. According to the Eternal Sprite, humans are rarely chosen by Eternals for the Gann Josin.
Now, Dane Whitman does manage to break the Gann Josin several issues later. But… it’s not easy. It’s rare. When Dane manages it, it is called an “astounding act.” It’s pretty dang hard, in other words. There’s every chance your chosen Gann Josins won’t have the mental fortitude of Dane Whitman to break it. (Although, we’re talking about Steve and Tony, and are there any bigger stubborn idiots in the universe? Probably not.)
But Mizzy, I hear you saying. I don’t want to write about Ikaris, even if he is a party king and that sounds pretty nifty. I don’t know anything about the Eternals and I don’t want to go down that gnarly rabbit hole.
That’s totes fine, my friend. I am here to save you. Because in very recent canon, during Jason Aaron’s turn at the helm, the Eternals are all dead. Very dead. That whole Mahd W’yry thing got ‘em, it got ‘em good. But before Ikaris died, he granted his Uni-Mind power to someone we all know and love.

Yep. Tony Stark. Tony Stark currently has the power of the Uni-Mind.
Which means that Tony Stark can now Gann Josin people.
In Avengers #361, Ikaris performs the Gann Josin by basically just pointing his hands at Sersi and Dane and some light goes WHEEEEEEE!! in their direction, and bam, this rare and special bond is done. And Tony Stark can do that now. To anyone! Unfortunately Ikaris is dead and didn’t leave Tony with an instruction manual. But the point is, he *can*. You can make up all sorts of fun things with this canonical fact (or write your own version because lbr Canon Is Dead; Long Live Canon.)
There are so many possibilities. Does Tony deliberately learn how to use it so he can bond himself to Steve? Does Tony *need* to be able to hear Steve’s thoughts (to thwart some bad guys) and thus end up soulbonded forever to Steve in result? Is Tony’s power activating at random because he can’t control it, and he ends up soulbonding everyone around him? Does he just subconsciously bond himself to Steve without consciously meaning to? Do Tony or Steve want to try it for science?
Gosh, I love comics.
But WAIT. There’s MORE.
It’s not just 1990s comics going ham on the soulbond idea. No, we got some *this year*. Canonical soulbonding? TWICE? In one universe? Two different kinds??
And this time, it’s not in a D-list Marvel title. We’re up the ranks to the big leagues this time, folx, with a brief trek to the world of the Fantastic Four.
In Fantastic Four (Vol. 6) #15, we’re introduced to a Spyre citizen called Sky, a winged team member of the Unparalleled (more cosmic-powered superheroes), who work under The Overseer. (The Overseer, in a burst of beautiful retcon in the way Marvel comics keeps doing to us, is apparently the entity who is responsible for giving the F4 their powers. Huh. The more you know.)

On the planet Spyre, all children are brought before something called The Great Eye. This measures them against the radiation signature of everyone on the planet, divining who their perfect match is.
Sky looked into The Great Eye, only to find out her match was Johnny Storm, who was 44 light-years away at the time. Long-distance relationships can be tough. Anyway, plot happens, the F4 get stuck on Spyre, get told they can’t leave, and Sky tells Johnny Storm that she is his soulmate. Oh, and she attached a soul binding onto him while he slept. Neat, huh, all the bodily autonomy people get in this universe before being force soulbond to people? So neat, much consent, wow.
Johnny feels a connection to Sky, which is supposed to let us know this lack of choice is a good thing I guess. The Overseer wants Sky to renounce Johnny and crush the F4 which obv doesn’t happen, so of course she leaves The Unparalleled and skips off to Earth to be with Johnny.
Who knows how this relationship is gonna last. I mean, you can look at the rest of Johnny’s relationship history and have a good guess. Who knows. Anyway, Reed and Sue are each other's soulmate, and also share a “Soul Binding”, so there’s some canonical proof right there that maybe this system has some validity going for it.
The soulbond for this form takes the form of a golden bracelet worn on the upper arm, that Sky explains her people call a “Soul Binding”; it represents them as being soul-mates. This bracelet can only be removed by your soulmate. This soulbond doesn’t seem to come with any extra powers, it’s just to show that The Great Eye has measured their radiation signature and declared them a match that is supposed to mean they’re perfectly compatible in every way: spiritually, mentally, and physically.

I don’t know about you, but I have a pretty good feeling that Steve and Tony might just have matching radiation signatures… Or what if Steve and Tony have perfect matching signatures….with other people? (Someone else on Spyre believes Sky is *their* perfect match, after all!) What if Steve has feelings for Iron Man, but he’s a perfect match with Tony Stark? I feel faint already just thinking about it.
So here you go. Two canonical types of soulbonds for your fannish consideration. Feel free to ask me questions! You can find me on tumblr (@mizzy2k) or on discord (addy#0908).
