La famiia Madrigal hates Mirabel?(part 1: the photo)
Look, I'm not saying that the Madrigal Familia don't flinch with Mirabel, they do, and I'd be in denial if I didn't admit it- but you greatly simplify the Madrigal Familia's view of Mirabel to "They hate and avoid her all the time ", but it's just me!
except for Alma and Isabela (Even these characters have relations with Mirabel simplified by viewers) there is no other family member who acts antagonistically or shows dislike for Mira.
I will analyze and give my opinion on moments that are used as a reason to hate the Madrigal family- An afrolatina
1- The infamous photo scene from Antonio's ceremony. I have A LOT of opinions about this scene and how people react to it, well let's break it down...
Tumblr media
It was wrong that they didn't notice that Mirabel didn't join them, I want to make it clear that I'm not going to relatify their mistakes, they are a family with flaws, with MANY flaws, but I want to see these scenes observing all the nuances and the situations properly
With all that said, you misunderstand both this scene and WOM so hard, what makes Mirabel have an emotional outburst was Alma's phrase "I knew you would make it, a gift as special as you are" and then her expression of proudness starts to unravel BEFORE the family takes the picture, and then Alma calls everyone to join in for the picture and Mirabel stands in the background with her expression completely disgusted, and AFTER the family takes the family picture
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then Mirabel's song starts talking about how she always has to hold her emotions and that she stands aside while her family shines, it was more a song about her imposter syndrome and how much she wants to live up to her family than how many find a song about how her family is mean and hates her(confirmed by director)
And i also saw a lot of people saying that they excluded her on purpose because she doesn't have a gift...well where to start...1-Abuela told EVERYONE to join Photo 2- Agustin and Felix are in the picture and they don't have a gift. 3-A very important point is that Jared bush the director of Encanto confirmed in a Q&A that Mirabel avoids being in family photos thanks to her imposter syndrome, and this photo where she is uncomfortable with Luisa holding her to not leave is proof of that
Tumblr media
Conclusion: They were wrong not to have noticed Mirabel's absence, but it's good to take into account the euphoric hype of the moment, they don't hate her for not having a gift or excluded her on purpose, as I showed they didn't exclude her from other photos family or in Luisa's case, make sure he's here. I'm not saying they don't have a certain insensitivity towards Mirabel's situation but the pesskas tend to always see the worst of the Madrigal family without looking deeper into them and that.. saddens me

Encanto OC Event Week 2: Francisca and Bruno. Two Black Sheep.
Tumblr media
(Far behind than I planned! Need to get another one completed!)
These two first hear about the other before meeting. Alejandra talks a little about her sister and when she arrives home, she has plenty to tell. Pablo's fight, the con artists gang, finding a secluded paradise and a kind family. She respects the Madrigal's privacy by not discussing their gifts. Though she wants to because it's beneficial. She shows Francisca the tea Julieta makes for Bruno's migraines. Teas are nothing new to Francisca, but she keeps it. She's not surprised by their father having warned Alejandra it wouldn't go well. She knows they'll have to be vigilant with the gang. However, if they were southwest, far from Boyacá, she's confident they won't appear soon. As for some secluded paradise, she has no interest. She's curious that this family knew their mother, but doesn't think they'll learn anything new. She's not sure about this Bruno Madrigal that Alejandra talks about so highly. Especially how he has these funny alter egos called Hernando and Jorge. (Anyone who puts a bucket on their head has insanity issues.) She brushes it all off and continues with her busy life.
After Bruno arrives to Boyaca, Francisca's not there due to work, shows up for dinner. She's confused seeing a small, slightly unkempt man. When Alejandra introduces them, Francisca's not impressed. It's hard to impress her anyway, but she's analyzing him. She can tell from the ruana he picks loose threads and likely has insomnia due to the dark circles under his eyes. Oh, and great! He's a rat person. (Beatriz tagged along wanting to see Alejandra.) She has no interest in him and isn't thrilled he's staying for a few days. At first Bruno's annoyed by Francisca's dismissiveness but trusts Alejandra saying her sister's not social. Besides, he knows there's more than meets the eye.
He sees a gentler side to Francisca with her cat, Litzy. How she and her twin sit alone at night in a peaceful silence. When Francisca goes through a terrible migraine, he finds Alejandra trying to comfort her twin. It's nearly identical to Julieta and Pepa when he had them. Alejandra tells Bruno the tea from Julieta didn't work. It wasn't a quick fix like her food. Bruno admits that when he took it, it would slowly help him recover since migraines are a side effect from his gift. It should work fast for an average person, but why not for Francisca? After she's recovered, Bruno asks her about her experience. Francisca sarcastically comments he must be a doctor. No, but he's had them all his life so why not discuss? He remembers Mercedes mentioned her family had a history of migraines. Francisca reluctantly sits down and talks with him. She goes over in detail her remedies and the timing of migraines. It seems like she's holding something back.
Bruno's a bit stunned he's concerned for her. She's not like Alejandra, being more independent and calculated. Yet, like with Alejandra, he's seeing a part of himself in her and wants to help. They don't have anything in common though...until she offers to give him copies of old theater books. Bruno's pleasantly surprised since he already has those and didn't think she liked theater. Her answer? "I don't. I just read them because I was bored." It leads into the topic of reading which leads to Mercedes. Francisca's not as stiff talking about her and gives sparse details about their lives.
She asks him a strange question: does he have any kind of visions? He admits he has future visions. As nerve wracking as it is to try a vision outside from home, he'll try. Francisca thinks he's joking using some process to see them. She's thinking more medically than fantasy. She declines saying he wouldn't understand. When he inquires why she suddenly brought up visions, she admits she has some disorder where...she sees things. She explains how she's researched and diagnosed. Bruno's not sure, but listens. Maybe she's clairvoyant like him or something along the lines. Francisca refuses to buy the clairvoyance since magic isn't real. Sort of frustrating, but Bruno realizes she's practical and if she saw the Encanto she'd probably understand. They talk a little about being the odd one in the family: the black sheep. They gain a new respect for each other after this. She admits she likes him a little because he reminds her of Alejandra.
When Bruno leaves, he reminds the girls the family would be happy to see them and they're welcome anytime. He also tells Francisca if she ever wants to talk about visions, he'll listen. A while later, Alejandra and a begruding Francisca visit the Encanto. She actually wanted to see just Bruno with more inquiries about visions. Alejandra jokingly tells him that means she missed him. The Madrigals are glad to see Alejandra, but it's another story with Francisca. She can't comprehend magic or the gifts. She especially can't grasp how Casita is alive. Francisca feels like she's going mad and there's discord among the Madrigals. She even offends Casita and causes a temporary rivalry. Bruno and Alejandra find themselves having to keep the peace. It doesn't take long for Antonio to like her thanks to Litzy coming along and telling him sweet stories about her owner.
Bruno offers Francisca the tablet of young Mercedes holding a baby. He says Alejandra told him to keep it but wants Francisca to decide. She checks it thoroughly and says it's neither of them. She admits something she's kept to herself since Mercedes died. Mercedes was writing in her final days. Francisca found notes for her and Alejandra. Mercedes wrote heartfelt memories and encouragement. Francisca found discarded drafts, but one with few details that left shock. It was Mercedes admitting to the girls, she had a miscarriage. From what Francisca could gather, Mercedes kept trying to reword it and finally decided not to reveal. She's not sure when it happened, but she's certain it's when the twins were toddlers. Bruno's shocked and devastated to know Mercedes went through it.
Not long after, Francisca admits she's curious how he has visions. She's speechless seeing a vision of Alejandra in danger. It's the same one Bruno had which made him travel to Boyaca. He's concerned when it appears she goes into a panic attack and suddenly goes rigid. To his amazement, her eyes are now a faintly growing dark green! They suddenly stop and Francisca collapses as if she's fought for her life. Bruno gives her time to breathe and when she demands he can't tell anyone, he reassures. She confesses everything since Bruno's earned her trust.
She's had visions of the past since she was 5 and never told anybody besides her twin. Not even Mercedes. She's kept it secret in fear of being deemed insane and being locked up. She has little control of the visions and holding them back causes worse migraines. Her 6 months in prison was an endless blur of visions leaving her weak. The minister who helped her leave was only called because the guards thought she was possessed, but he was experienced enough to know this was different. Francisca couldn't believe when he suggested her visions could be from higher powers and maybe even a gift. Now? She's not sure about anything. Bruno doesn't know either, but promises she's safe and nobody will lock her up. She's had to take care of everybody else. Now it's her turn to be helped and he'll do it.
He suddenly wonders if Alejandra has something similar and Francisca only says, "You'd have to ask her."

Hello! First of all, I want to tell you that I like your blog. I have read your analyzes and HC's of the brumira ship and I loved them very much. What a way to expose through reasonable arguments a veiled relationship that goes beyond the familiar between this pair! I want to tell you that pairing them didn't even cross my mind at first, but as the movie continued I kept raising an eyebrow in suspicion that something was happening between them, but I didn't know what. I had this funny feeling until the infamous post-credit scene where the two of them were sitting on that hill under a starry night. I digress, I'm writing to you because I wanted to know your opinion on one of Jared Bush's answers in the last Q&A. Attached image.
Tumblr media
I don't know why, but I feel like his answer was quite direct, pessimistic and realistic (I know he wouldn't have to answer with a super analysis either because it's twitter but still). Do you also consider that the family would have fallen apart? Taking into account the coexistence and the dependency that they would possibly develop, do you believe that the relationship between Bruno and Mirabel would have rushed towards the romantic? What do you think would have been the future of both parties? Do you think they would ever meet again? And if that was the case, how do you think both sides would react? I know that there are a million possibilities for these questions, but I would love to know your opinion or possible HC's in a situation like this. Thanks for your attention. I hope you have a good day.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you've enjoyed my thoughts on these two. And thank you for this ask! It's been awhile since I've done anything on here, and I don't keep up with what Jared Bush has to say about Encanto, so this is very cool to see.
To get to your ask, this has been a very fun and interesting scenario to play around with. Let me answer this in parts so I don't get lost.
Do you also consider that the family would have fallen apart?
To put it simply, yes, and it's because Mirabel and Bruno are the family's cycle breakers. But I can break it down further.
Everyone in the family aside from Mirabel and Bruno is working to uphold the status quo that has been set by Alma. A few things about this status quo:
It is incredibly maladaptive and toxic for the mental health of individual Madrigals and the overall cohesion of the Madrigal family.
It was developed directly from Alma's trauma responses in the aftermath of Pedro's death.
The miracle is central to upholding the status quo and without it, the family loses the tenuous foundation keeping them together.
In the film, we see the negative impact the Madrigal's status quo has on individuals. We specifically see this impact with Pepa, Isabela, and Luisa. We see Pepa in constant distress and at complete mercy of her gift, and we see Alma reinforce this dynamic by telling Pepa to tone down her weather (and by extension, her emotions) a couple times in the movie. With Isabela and Luisa, we get to see a slightly different story. A generation younger than Pepa, both Luisa and Isabela have a grasp on how detrimental the family's current dynamics are to their personal well-being, but they don't really know how to change it, and when they try to fix it, it backfires miserably on them, mostly due to Alma's wrath (which for nuance's sake is powered by her trauma-influenced worldview about needing to be worthy of the miracle and not lose anymore of her family). With Pepa, Luisa, and Isabela, we get to see how the different generations within the family interact with the family dynamics. And without any cycle breakers to aid them, they're not able to effectively make any lasting changes to the family.
This is all to say what we already know, and that is that Mirabel and Bruno are not the ones that cause the house—a metaphor for the family's dynamics/cohesion itself—to collapse. They are the ones who were able to see the cracks in the family's foundation, and for that reason alone, they are the only ones who have a chance at guiding the family towards healing. Because you can't fix a problem if you don't recognize it's there, as is the case with the triplet's generation. And even if you do recognize there's a problem, you still can't fix it if you don't know what it looks like or understand what is wrong, as is the case for the grandchildren's generation.
So, if Bruno and Mirabel completely left the family after the house collapsed, which ultimately serves as a metaphor for the family no longer being able to sustain their toxic system, then the rest of the Madrigals would be at a severe disadvantage for healing the family. Not only would the Madrigals have lost their two cycle breakers, but they would also have to navigate losing their gifts and estranging another Madrigal due to the family's toxic dynamics.
When I think about it, the gifts are what is really keeping the family together. The miracle garners a sense of duty within each of the gifted Madrigals. Within the film, Mirabel's reconciliation with Alma is directly what causes her to rally the Madrigals to rebuild. Mirabel keeps the family together in their gift-less state. Without Mirabel, I think it would be very easy for the oldest grandchildren decide to take off as well and finally escape Alma's standards and visions for them.
Really, Mirabel is the key to the family's destruction or rebirth. Bruno paved a way for her, but Mirabel is the one doing the heavy-lifting. That being said, if Mirabel left after the destruction of Casita, I can't think of a single compelling reason for why Bruno would hang around the Encanto or the Madrigals. He was living in the walls to be near his family, but he would see immediately that there is no family without Mirabel's help, and he certainly would not have the courage nor the reason to try to re-enter the family with Mirabel gone.
Headcanons and musings below the cut because this got really long.
Taking into account the coexistence and the dependency that they would possibly develop, do you believe that the relationship between Bruno and Mirabel would have rushed towards the romantic?
Like you said, I think there are a TON of ways this can play out.
If Mirabel and Bruno both decided to leave after the destruction of Casita, I think it is likely that they would both decide to journey together when they do find each other outside the Encanto. They might not know each other very well, but they are each other's last connection to their family and the town they're leaving behind.
In this scenario, I think Bruno and Mirabel's relationship would develop more quickly into a romantic one than if they had stayed with the family. After all, they are not going to be around other family members they can harm with their mutual attraction. It's going to be harder and harder for them to justify staying away from each other when they are all the other has. But I do think it would still take awhile before either of them develop feelings, acknowledge their feelings, and then decide what to do with their feelings.
I guess once they both realize they have feelings for each other, they might be more likely to act on their mutual attraction in this scenario. And the angst over what this means for the family would be lessened greatly because they're not a part of the family anymore.
You know, as I'm thinking about it, one way this could play out is that they really lean into this idea that they were the destroyers of the family, so yeah, of course they're going to have incestuous feelings for each other. Just par for the course.
So in this case, we have much more potential for Mirabel and Bruno being much more unapologetic about their feelings and their relationship with each other. Plus, aside from the obvious age-gap, they would be able to be as open as they want about it as they travel from town to town. (Because I guess in my head they become travelers. It adds to this idea that the only home they have at this point is each other, but I digress.)
What do you think would have been the future of both parties?
Let's focus on the rest of the Madrigals. Following the conclusion that Mirabel leaving would result in the destruction of the family, then I would have to say that if for some reason Mirabel and Bruno do ever return to the Encanto, it is highly unlikely the family is all still together.
I think Julieta and Augustin probably would have stayed behind with Alma, trying to maintain some semblance of the family that used to be. Plus, Julieta is the eldest daughter, so she might feel a deeper sense of responsibility to keep up the old ways best she can. Even if Alma's actions resulted in the estrangement of her youngest daughter.
Pepa and Felix are also probably nearby, or at the very least, in contact with Julieta and Augustin. But I don't see them living together. After all, after Bruno, Pepa had the most issues with Alma.
It's with the grandchildren that you can really see the fallout of the Madrigal family.
Isabela absolutely would leave as soon as she deemed that Mirabel was not going to return. She probably becomes a florist or a gardener a few towns over, exploring her other interests (and bisexuality).
Luisa would probably stay behind due to a blend of sense of duty and guilt over not wanting to leave her parents completely alone. But I can't imagine she would be too happy about it. She likely would still be in secret communication with Isabela, though it would break her heart that it has to be secret.
Whenever Dolores does end up with Mariano, they would probably find their own place together, either in town or just out of town. Either way, it would be away from the family.
Camilo would probably stay with his parents for a few years, but since these are my headcanons, I think he would also go looking for Isabela at some point. Once he finds her, they end up together.
For the most part, Antonio gets to grow up as a normal kid since Pepa and Felix move away from the family. He doesn't get the full experience of living in a close-knit multi-generational family, but at least he gets to be a kid with friends and more appropriate amount expectations set on him.
Do you think they would ever meet again? And if that was the case, how do you think both sides would react?
I imagine that the fragmented parts of the Madrigal family probably wouldn't meet again. At least not until far into the future. But if they were to meet again, it would have to be due to an event that would cause all the Madrigals to come together again.
Maybe it's Alma's funeral. Maybe it's the birth of Dolores's first child. Either way, something so big happens, that even the estranged Madrigals are notified. How? Probably Dolores. I think she would be savvy and covert enough to know where her estranged relatives are without outing them to the other relatives. So she's probably the one to let them know so they can decide if they should return, even temporarily.
When Mirabel and Bruno get the news, they have to decide first if they want to go back and second how they will present themselves to the family.
If Alma is still alive, they would totally go the unapologetic route of being openly together as a final middle finger to her before leaving again. If it's her funeral, they might be more secretive about it out of respect to the other grieving Madrigals.
Either way, enough time has passed that Mirabel is a fully grown woman, so if/when the family does find out, I think there would be some disgust and upset, but it would be much more worn than if the family had stayed together. Partially because of how much time has passed and how clear it is that Bruno and Mirabel are in an established, stable relationship, and partially because the family is broken and most of the Madrigals have made it to the acceptance stage for this brokenness. So an uncle and niece are in a relationship? Well, now that's a part of the family Madrigal.
But if Mirabel and Bruno are found out, Camilo and Isabela would come forward as a couple as well, as a show of unity to them.
Nothing like finding out there are two incest couples in one family to really send home the message that this family is beyond repair.
After that, I think the Madrigals would be taking sides. Mirabel, Bruno, Isabela, and Camilo would probably start reconnecting again, while the other Madrigals decide who they are willing to maintain relationships with and who they are disowning.
Luisa is pretty firm about not disowning her sisters, though she is secretly a little uneasy about Bruno. Mostly though, she's just happy to see Mirabel and Isabela again. It's probably what gives her the final push to move away from her parents and closer to Isabela and Camilo. Antonio is torn, but ultimately glad to be reconnected with his cousins and brother. Dolores and Mariano, of course, are opening their arms to everyone. It's Bruno's siblings and in-laws that are having a harder time.
But that's okay, because Mirabel and Bruno have reunited with the family who is willing to accept them. This gives them incentive to finally settle down, choosing to live close to Isabela, Camilo, Dolores, Mariano, and Luisa. It's not perfect, and it's certainly not normal, but the seven of them are able to slowly rebuild the Madrigals into something new. Possibly something a little better.

Father Madrigal & the Pagan
🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Writing from inspiration from another blog. Bruno Madrigal fled all those years ago and decided to join the church. He returns to the Encanto a fully fledged man of the cloth. But a newly arrived pagan tests his patience and sanity.
CW/TW: religious themes, adult content, etc
I was delighted to find a cave while I wandered. I'd just have to remember where to bring the builders tomorrow.
The problem of Father Madrigal tangled up my thoughts. He looked so damn miserable. But, really, was there anything I could actually do?
I returned to the Guzmon's home, but what I really wanted to do was return to the confession booth.
My brain analyzed it over and over as I sat at the kitchen table, waiting on the kettle again for another brew.
That is, till I heard a knock at the door.
I went to answer and found myself face to face with Father Flores and altar boy helping a pained Father Madrigal. His eyes were pinched closed again, it must be another "headache."
"Father Madrigal insisted we come to you for your tea," Father Flores spoke under the strain.
"Oh, yes, of course, come on in. You can sit him down in that chair there. I actually had the kettle going anyway. It won't be too long this time," I was going to turn on my heel back to the kitchen, but I wanted to ask more questions about the nature of these headaches.
"The remedy takes a while if there's anything you need to attend to, Father. I can look after him."
Father Flores looked at me like I was an alien from another planet. But the altar boy was reminding him of some obligation or other.
"Let us know if there's anything we can do to help," he said on his way out.
I watched through the window as they parted and made my way to where Father Madrigal sat.
"Is it another one of your headaches, Father?" I kneeled down next to him to get a better look.
"Yes, the same," he opened his eyes to let me see the flickering neon glow.
"What is this from? Does this have anything to do with... your past gift? Er, ability?"
"It does. Julieta, my sister, you met briefly yesterday, the one in blue, said it was because I... I'm trying to stop the spontaneous visions."
"Why do you suppress them?"
"I don't want to see them," he nearly growled.
"I'll get the tea then," I said backing up away from him.
He closed his eyes, face in on hand.
He hadn't moved when I returned with the tray with the same remedy in the tea pot. I poured out a cup for him and placed it in his hands.
"Thank you, bless you, my child," he took the tea remedy.
There were those damn knots in my stomach again.
"Father, if suppressing the visions causes these headaches, wouldn't the antidote to be to just let them happen?"
"I told you, I don't want to see them."
"Would it help if someone was with you? To help you through the vision?"
He didn't respond immediately.
"I've not had these headaches occur so frequently before," he finally admitted.
"I had another one last night. After I made sure you got home safe. Barely made it to my cell."
"Cell?"
"A sort of bedroom," his facial expression changed, "Brigid..."
"(Y/N). My real name is (Y/N). But in front of others, if you don't mind continue calling me Brigid..."
He opened his eyes to look at me.
"Much more fitting," his hand cupped my face.
I was surprised at the physical contact, but a part of me didn't want it to end.
"Well, if you aren't going to let the vision happen, I suggest you take your medicine," I guided his hand back to the tea.
"You've been so kind, mija," his gaze drifted away.
"I don't like seeing people in pain. Especially if there's something I can do," I rose from my seated position, "I'm going to brew some for myself."
I felt his grasp around my wrist as I passed him. I looked back at him, less shock and more annoyance.
"Please don't leave. These headaches are nearly blinding."
It finally clicked.
"Okay," I returned to my seat, "Are we going to talk about what's going on with you?"
"What do you mean?"
"You said these headaches have increased in frequency. What's changed?"
"Well, I returned to the Encanto. And you." He had a sly smile on his face.
"Do you think I have anything to do with your headaches coming on more?"
"I... I didn't consider that."
I sighed. He wasn't going to budge with this problem.
I encouraged him to continue drinking the tea and remained silent.
"What are you thinking?" He asked aloud.
"I want to help you, but I don't know how," I responded as blatantly as possible.
"Some men can't be saved from themselves," he commented.
"Is that what you think? You can't be saved from yourself?"
He grumbled.
"The teas will only treat the symptoms. I have no idea how your Visions work or how my plants could possibly help at the source," I started explaining. He was finishing his second cup and finally able to pour his own for the third.
I placed my hand on his wrist and his eyes fluttered up to mine.
"This is serious. What if it causes permanent damage?"
"It hasn't caused permanent damage before," he withdrew his hand, "though they weren't always this intense."
I crossed my arms, looking at him with the most disapproving look I could muster.
"What would you have me do, then?"
"Let me help you through a vision. The next time one of these headaches rears its ugly head, find me, and I'll help you through it."
He nodded, thoughtfully.
Señora Guzmon came in the door with Abuela Alma of all people in tow.
"Visiting us again, Father Madrigal?" Señora Guzmon asked as she came in. I watched Abuela Alma stay back a ways.
"Father had another headache and came for the cure," I gestured to the tea set.
"Father," Abuela Alma must be holding some contempt for him.
"Mamá," Father Madrigal responded with the same amount of contempt in his voice.
The tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Wonder what that's about.
"It's getting late, and I've already taken up more than enough of your time," Father rose, and I followed.
"Are you okay to walk back on your own?" I was worried he hadn't had enough time to recover.
He looked back at me through long lashes.
"Would you mind accompanying me? I need to get back," sly fucker, making it sound like a request.
"Of course, Father," I followed him, not bothering to attend to the tea set. We were out the door in a matter of seconds.

Hi, me again. Bruno's gift is precognition. Actually, he has involuntary visions, but he can also have them of his own will.
"Encanto" is set in Colombia in the 1950s, so I stopped and analyzed that probably (very probably) they would be religious. Catholics, to be exact.
I was so anxious because if you watch, you can see some gosprl themes in the movie, like sacrifice, family, love, and so on. Their (the Madrigals) "magic" is called Milagro (Miracle in English). But I was thinking, if I write that the family thinks that the Miracle comes from God, it wouldn't make sense that Bruno has this gift of knowing the future.
This is very confusing for me, sorry for bothering you with these things.
Honestly, if the miracle comes from God, then the point is moot. You have to ask yourself WHY witchcraft is a sin. It’s because it’s seeking power & knowledge from someone or something apart from God—power that God has not given you permission to use, knowledge He has not granted to you. Yet He gave the Apostles the power to speak languages they did not learn, and to heal people without medicine. Was it wrong for them to practice what the world might call necromancy on Dorcas? Was it wrong for the prophets to foretell Israel’s exile? No, because it was God who did all of it through them.
Your story, like any fantasy story with Christianity in it, is asking the question, “What if?”
“What if we lived in a world where God granted miracles not just to the Apostles but to everyone?” “What if we lived in a world where God had also created fauns and dwarves and mermaids?” “What if we lived in a world where God made plants with properties that make you fall in love?”
The thing you want to avoid is putting new words into God’s mouth or ascribing any intentions to Him that are not also constant in the real world. I think it’s really dodgy (and sadly common) for people to write God as if He were an actor on their stage, and not an actual Person they are merely describing. If a writer wants a god they can play around with, they ought to just invent one Brandon-Sanderson-style, not use the real One.

I want to psycho analyze the Madrigal’s gifts by the triplets’ line.
Bruno’s is the most obviously worse out of the Triplets. Physically taxing, mentally scarring in some cases, and drives a wedge between him and everyone around him. I think if Bruno had had any cannon children, their gifts would have been similarly bad. -100/10, the future is overrated.
Pepa’s line is interesting to analyze in my opinion.
Pepa has a difficult gift in the first place- she has to bottle up her own emotions to maintain a perfect weather cycle, has to force negative (in most cases) ones to change the cycle, and her bottled up emotions have a chance of exploding in a quite nasty way. I think we can see her gift’s difficulties reflected in her children’s. 2/10, I would be raining all the time, and I would give a big fat middle finger to anyone telling me “you have a cloud!”
Dolores’ is obvious in my opinion- she literally has a heightened sense tuned to what seems to be roughly a mile around the Encanto (give or take), and if she is able to concentrate on a certain set of noises, which in of itself is a difficulty, she’s left with the decision to either share or act on anything she hears. Her gift has slim to no upsides, and I’d go as far as saying that it has no upsides at all. -∞/10, even though my hearing sucks atm.
Camilos’ is a little more subtle, but certainly still prevalent- he/they literally have the ability to shift any part of their body into anyone he has a clear image of- or to even change things about his body he doesn’t like- hello, body dysmorphia?? And I can’t imagine that this ability isn’t taxing- so if he wasn’t constantly eating Tia Julieta’s miracle food, I would bet that his muscles would be sore ALL the time. And having to eat constantly to replace burned energy! -7/10, I already don’t like my face, but I don’t want to have a cure-all for it!
As for Antonio, I don’t honestly know if his gift would have huge upsides like his siblings- but I think it would be like Julieta’s side- subtle, but really serious. Antonio can understand any animal- and they’re probably more compelled to be nice to him (i hope) but that would mean that Antonio probably won’t be doing much socializing outside of his family. Possible social anxiety? He’s got a really good net of people to help him though, so I can’t honestly see much downside to his gift. 10/10, the only good rating, I want to hear gossip from animals about the humans.
And oh, ho, ho! We’ve arrived at Julieta’s side of the family!
At first glance, I think Julieta’s gift looks pretty much without downside- just eat some of her cooking and wow! No more seriously broken bone!
Two things immediately pop out to me- this hinges on Julieta’s cooking, nobody else! I’m obviously not sure how persnickety magic is, but assuming it’s extremely picky, Julieta has to do everything- that means from raw ingredients to fully cooked, and she has to make a LOT. No rest for the weary here!
Second- relying on a magical cure for sickness and injury is concerning to me in two ways. What happens in a situation where (like after Casita falls) Julieta’s cooking isn’t a heal-all? Does she know anything about identifying injuries or treating them? I’d wager very little- given how much time she has to spend preparing her magical food.
And lastly- we saw a pattern here! Julieta has no time (or very little) to do literally anything else other than working with her gift. I’d wager she’d kinda get resentful of having to cook so much- it keeps her from paying attention to people who need her, not her food! Julieta’s gift gets a -2/10 for me, and that’s with me considering that her food could remove nausea.
Isabella Perfecta- on the outside I’d see her gift as pretty damn amazing- grow any flower, make a tree speed run growing, make any garden flourish? Cool!
But I think before Isabella actively changes what she’s growing, I think she could cause more harm than good. Any non-native plant can become an invasive species, if left unchecked. Now I think this is where it gets more complicated- I have a feeling that at least a certain amount of Isabella’s abilities are linked to her emotions, and if she set her mind to it, Isabella could likely remove plants in a wide area, much more effectively than a regular person. So, meh on the oof scale.
However! Her gift is incredibly unique, and we certainly saw that she used it ALL the time, often to try to appease Abuela. Now I’m going to try not to rant about Abuela’s influence on this side of the Madrigals, but the sheer energy Isabella spent on appeasement must’ve meant physical exhaustion. On my scale I’d say 6/10, because I realized that her abilities would help curb deforestation. In terms of taxing, 5/10.
Luisa. Oh, wonderful, beautiful Luisa.
I don’t have a lot to say really, your gift means you’re expected to do all the heavy lifting. You’re taken advantage of to move a building (seriously why did they have her move the church? No enough godly light??) and other things that HAVE NO BUSINESS BEING MOVED! REROUTING A RIVER IS NOT A THING TO BE DONE BY ONE PERSON!
This also means you’re away from the people you want to spend time with- you can pry my thoughts about how much Luisa loves her little sister from my cold dead hands, I’m a last child, I know how older siblings (with 5+ age gap) really want to treat their siblings, and it’s to play/spend time with them at the drop of a hat.
On top of all this? Her entire mental image of herself is being able to serve others in increasingly over complicated ways. She lost her cool at the dinner because she couldn’t do what a GUEST asked her to do. If I was the head of a household and my guest asked my (overpowered and certainly capable) child to move a large object for their own whim, I would kick them out! (Seriously! Mariano is fine, but Señora Guzman is on thin fucking ice!)
In my terms, Luisa’s gift is a 3/10, and that’s because she’s gotta have a heightened balance ability somewhere in there too.
And finally, Mirabel. Oh Mirabel, I literally sobbed every time you felt the gap between you and your family members- as a third child, you are so relatable and it broke my heart!
As a giftless Madrigal, you were seen less than, maybe not intentionally- but the feeling of uselessness was constantly being projected onto you, just because those with gifts wouldn’t allow you to help.
Because of that feeling of uselessness, I think Mirabel overcompensated- tried to do things that would “make my family proud”, show that she’s just as special as the rest of her family, and she shouldn’t be pushed aside just because she has no gift.
However, in a way, I think the lack of a gift saved Mirabel a lot of pain- the pain of never being enough, not if she couldn’t stretch herself to her very limits just to make people happy.
My diagnosis? Mirabel’s lack of a gift is a 8/10, and it’s only an 8 because no gift caused her so much pain.
Long story short, I think that the Madrigal’s family followed a pattern in gift types/burdens, and in the end I would call the gifts the drawback of creating a safe haven. They might be cool, but I would not want a Madrigal’s gift for myself, not even if it meant clear skin.

I said what I said pt. 2.
#encanto#bruno madrigal#my hero academia#boku no hero academia#izuku midoriya#midoriya izuku#ok but seriously though#i can kinda picture young bruno analyzing his sisters' gifts and reassuring them when their gifts gave them trouble#young pepa feeling sad that her clouds always ruin her clothes and scare the other children away#and bruno being `but you can also make rainbows! and you can help water juli's herbs! when it's too hot you can create snow to cool off!`#or young juli feeling frustrated that her gift is not flashy like bruno's or versatile like pepa's#so bruno helps juli cook different meals to see if they can get different effects and they both become great cooks#when he grows up and starts getting nieces and nephews he also spends a lot of time analysing their gifts#he probably gave camilo the idea of only shifting certain parts of his body#perhaps also realized that isabela could potentially create trees and non-flowering plants#but any exploration of that got shot down by alma#once he is introduced to antonio they totally hit it off and start experimenting#seeing if antonio can communicate with animals with no eyes or mouth#or animals who can't hear well or don't make any sound#surprisingly he's not the one who discovered dolores's gift could be overwhelming#that was pepa and it's totally because they're both autistic#bruno perhaps focused so much on others' gifts because his own was such a burden to him#but when he was younger he did analise his gift too and learnt thr differences between prophecies and involuntary visions#this helped him get a firmer grasp on his gift

Hehehe time to over analyze the fuck out of this ten second clip!
OK LETS GO!
SO! Firstly. I’m gonna start out this this image of the creators tweet
Tumblr media
He said Pepa was the ‘Middle child’ more emotional because JULIETA was the ADULT!
Now, it may just be theory. And it might be literal canon, but its heavily implied Julieta never got much criticism from Alma like Pepa did. Sure. That meant she had a lot of pressure. To ironically, be the ‘Perfect golden child’ (gosh and the fact Isabella was her child ok I’m getting off tract shshsbdh). But typically since her gift was easy, and not problematic. She was probably closer to Abuela. And got less scolding.
Which of course, as the middle child who was ridiculed and forced to repress her emotions, it would make her ‘More emotional’
NOW! Let’s analyze these frames!
Tumblr media
their both a little shocked Alma is apologizing. Though Pepa is visibly more surprised, while Julieta looks more concerned. Maybe cause Pepa never got an apology growing up. Or never saw her do it. Except when…
Tumblr media
‘miss eldest golden child Julieta’ got one. you see cause now she looks resolute. She looks downtrodden and sad. While Julieta looks the same. Cause Alma has always been closer to Julieta. And Pepa probably assumes that if anything, this apology is just for her Sister. (but of course she walks forward too cause like. Jsdjjd for music purposes. And also hope. She probably is hoping it’s for her for once. plain old hoping.) which is easily backed up by…
Tumblr media
THIS PHOTO!
they Both approach her. Yet it’s JULIETA Alma first goes to. She takes JULIETAS hands. She doesn’t take Pepas hands. LOOK AT HER HANDS. she’s holding them nervousky. Clenched together. Tucked to her chest. She looks so anxious ans sad. Watching Julieta get the love.
Tumblr media
Now Julieta is at ease. She understands her mom is fine. And she’s getting a love filled apology. She’s ok. PEPA ON THE OTHER HAND LOOKS DESTROYED. she’s literally watching them two. Wondering if she’ll be noticed. If she’ll get an apology. If she’ll just be ignored yet again. If she’s even deserving of such high honored only given to the eldest golden child.
Tumblr media
THEN RELIEF! Alma has reached out. For once. And it is a shock. Theirs a second she doesn’t move. But then she instinctively leans into the comforting touch of her mother that she was so deprived of. Closing her eyes to relish it. She is final getting the love and appreciation she deserves. (And yes Julieta is happy for her sister. She knows she’s been deprived of what should be rightfully hers)
Tumblr media
Confirmation! She makes eye contact with her mom. she smiles. It is real. She can’t believe it but is so happy and relieved! Pepa madrigal is being LOVED!
gosh. This took so much out of me. Thanks for sitting through my passionate and maybe A little obsessive rant. what can I say. I love Pepa Madrigal! 😌
please reblog the hell out of this it took so much energy

dirty little secret
Pairing: Dolores Madrigal x fem!reader
Summary: Dolores hates secrets and that's wildely known. But what if the secret she hates the most is not a secret at all?
a/n: I really wanted to write a sweet wlw short story ft. Dolores so here it is! I hope you like it!
Tumblr media
Dolores had always hated secrets and that's something everybody knew. She can't count all the times' local people would dare to ask her what somebody else was talking about them behind her back. It was something she loathed. She was grateful for her gift, of course, she was. But it did get tiring of hearing what everybody had to say about everything.
What she never expected though, was that her best friend would keep a secret from her. But, even if Dolores would love to be mad at her, there was just something about her that kept her at peace. When Dolores was next to y/n she felt invincible. The constant voices in her head seemed distant and low like she doesn't have to deal with them for some time.
In y/n, Dolores found love and patience, and happiness. Yet she couldn't help herself be a little colder to her once she heard there was somebody else on her mind.
What Dolores didn't know though was that y/n had a crush exactly on her, and it was her biggest secret.
Until she told Camilo.
Y/n knew Dolores would hear their conversation so it was crucial for them to never mention her name or his sister. Y/N wanted to tell Dolores about her feelings for a long time now but there was something restraining her. Every time she would try, the words got stuck in her throat and she couldn't say a word.
"Come up to our casita for dinner, we will plan something" answered Camilo, already analyzing the ideas of how to get the two lovestruck girls together.
Y/n joined the family who welcomed her with open arms. Dolores was the first to see her but when her best friend tried to hug her, she distanced herself.
"What-"
"You know what's wrong"
The two girls sat opposite each other, Dolores avoiding eye contact. It wasn't just the fact her best friend kept a secret, no. Dolores knew it was something much more, but she hated to admit that. Deep inside, Dolores knew it was knowing she wasn't the one who stole her heart that wounded her.
Abuela started another long speech that everybody seemed to pay a lot of attention to. Y/n leaned in, whispering to Dolores.
"Dolores, please -"
"Stop" she answered equally low, kicking her leg with her own under the table.
"What did I do?" the outsider by the family table asked, hurt in her voice.
"You're keeping a secret from me!"
Y/N was shocked and knew exactly what Dolores was referring to. What she didn't expect was for her to be so hurt by it.
After the dinner went slowly but neatly and the two girls went up to her room to talk in private. "I-I'm sorry, chiquita" she started, closing the door.
"We never had secrets, why now?" Dolores was hurt and that hurt got out in a form of anger.
"It's not" y/n stopped to breathe in some air "It's not that simple"
"Well then explain it to me!"
Y/N debated with herself. "I can't"
"You love somebody but couldn't tell your best friend?"
"It's not what you think! Dolores please"
The Madrigal girl was furious, her face turning red and the voices in her head getting louder and louder. "You know how much I hated secrets but you replaced me with Camilo"
"Because I love you! Okay?!" y/n screamed in one breath, leaving Dolores shook.
"I didn't tell you because I was scared but it's you! It's only you Dolores, it's always been you! I love the way you giggle slightly at my really bad jokes, I love the way you snuggle your head in my neck when everything is too much, I love our late-night talks by the window when we both can't sleep. It wasn't a secret at all, I love you!"
Dolores stood still, processing what the girl she has been in love with for such a long time had just said
"Please say something or I think I'll cry" y/n pleaded
She didn't know what she expected but it certainly was not Dolores running up to her, taking her face in her hands, and kissing her passionately on the lips. They both melted, taken by the emotions.
"I love the way you recite me a new poem every morning and before bed, I love how your eyes light up when somebody compliments you, I love how your face looks when your sister talks without stopping. I love you too, mi vida"
The door of the room opened, revealing the whole family. Camilo was the first to show his joy by yelling "Finally!"
"I agree," Dolores said, pressing another kiss to her lover's cheek.

˗ˏˋMON AMOUR´ˎ˗
Tumblr media
︰୨୧・꒱ ────IN WHICH: Y/n receives a little valentines gift, who could it be from?
‹𝟹 %: inspired by the song ‘mon amour remix’
˚ · . camilo madrigal x fem!reader.
Tumblr media
The warmth of the morning sun softly kissed Y/ns skin, waking her from her slumber. Her e/c eyes fluttered open, registering the light of the sun seeping through her bedroom window. A loud groan escaped her throat, not wanting to get up for this special day.
Today is Valentines day, a celebration she absolutely despises. She never received gifts from other people romantically, it made her feel unloved. “Y/n!” Her sibling called out, startling the sleepy girl.
“Uh coming!” She shouted back, quickly standing up to do her casual morning routine. She threw on her usual outfit and cleaned her room before speeding out of her room.
“Yeah?” Y/n questioned, snatching an empanada and taking a big bite of it. Her sibling smirked causing Y/n to shoot them a confuse look. “what?” She asked, confusion all over her face. “check the mail” They replied, patting their sister on the back and exiting the house.
“weirdo” She mumbled while grabbing the mailbox keys, walking out of the front door to do what her sibling ordered her to do. Her dainty hands put the keys in the box lazily, opening it.
Her brows furrowed as she glared at a small love letter. It must be for her sibling, right? Either way, she ignored the thoughts and grabbed the pastel pink envelop. She noticed a red heart in the middle of it.
So slowly, she opened it, eyes searching for a name. Who sent this? The question is unsolved. Her fingers traced against the unfamiliar unique and messy writing.
Y/n noticed small doodles on the paper. Her orbs grew larger as she began to read each word quietly.
Dear Y/n,
Happy Valentines day :) i know you don’t know who this is from but i just wanted to tell you im quite choked with tenderness for you, mi amor, it makes me feel a bit pathetic falling for someone i’ve never even talked to. i only admire your beauty from afar, it’s stupid. i’ve never grown the guts to speak to you. your purity gets me so nervous, makes my pumping heart skip a beat every time i glance at your e/c eyes. my absurd heart calls you, aching in secret. i wish you could notice me the way i notice and analyze all of you.
Y/ns eyes softened at the lovingly words, her heartbeat was beating faster than normal, maybe dolores could hear it a mile away. She urged to find out what lovesick person wrote this for her. Efficacy rushed through her veins as she put the note back in the envelop.
She walked off to town, she knew somebody who could know her unanswered question.
She took a deep breath in after the two steps in front of la casa madrigal. Her hand raised, she knocked on the magical houses front door which opened in seconds. “Oh, hello! Um.. I’m here to see dolores madrigal?” Y/n asked, smiling awkwardly at a shocked curly haired boy.
He wore a yellow ruana, a white button up underneath it. His eyes were a hazel green color and his face was detailed with light freckles. “I- uh yeah, that’s my sister. Come in” He stuttered out anxiously, moving away for the girl to enter his home.
She stepped in, looking around, amazed at the gifted house. “Camilo i told you- Oh my god! Hello, is this the famous Y/n Dolores was talking about?!” A ginger woman approached Y/n, a sun appearing above her head. The freckled boy behind her groaned in embarrassment.
“Mama! She’s looking for my hermana. Do you know if she already left with Mariano?” Camilo asked while his face was burning pink. “Y/n, i’ve heard so much about you! Mr. Camilo speaks about you-” She spoke, ignoring her sons remark.
“Haha! I think i know where Dolores went!” Camilo said loudly before grasping Y/n wrist and leading her upstairs to his sisters room. “Uh? That was weird” Y/n chuckled while the boy leading her was blushing pink because of the physical contact.
“Dolores!” He shouted while he let go of the confused h/c girl. He barged open her bedroom door but noticed it was empty. “Shoot. She left with her boyfriend since it’s, y’know...” He trailed off. “Valentines day. Yeah, i understand. It’s just that something crazy happened today and i needed her help but it can wait” She smiled softly at the brunette.
“Oh? What happened?” Camilo curiously questioned. “I received a love letter, it was adorable, but i don’t know who it’s from” She explained as the Madrigals eyes widened at her words.
He rubbed the back of his neck uncomfortably, not noticing his prima Mirabel walking up to the pair. “I know who it was” Mirabel teased, a smirk forming on her lips. Y/ns eyes glistened up at her. “Really? Could you tell me?” She pleaded. “Of course!” Mirabel replied.
“M-maybe you should wait for Dolores incase Mirabel here doesn’t actually know!” Camilo neglected quickly. Y/n raised an eyebrow at the boy while Mirabel did the same.
“The letter is from Camilo” Dolores peeped from across the hallway. The doe eyed girl squeaked and rushed away, hands intertwined. Mirabel winked at the pair and walked off. Y/n gave Camilo a confused face. “Who’s Camilo?” She asked causing the mixed boy to let out a sigh.
“It’s me, y/n. I wrote the letter. I understand if you don’t feel the same way-” He ranted, eyes glossy but his sentence got interrupted by the beam feeling of plump lips against his. The tingly sensation like an explosion of fluttering butterflies just launched in his stomach causing him to loose all nerves and kiss back. Their lips moved in sync, as if they were made for each other.
They soon pulled away from the dreamy scene, chests rising up and down rapidly. “It was cute, y’know” She winked teasingly and connected their hands. Camilo stood there, speachless until she leaded him down casitas stairs.

Encanto nitpick, Pepa Analysis.
BEFORE YOU READ: Okay so y’all remember when I made the Encanto nitpick post, I said I had one major one? Well that’s what I’m going to share today. The nitpick I’m about to share is the MAJOR PROBLEM I had with the movie, but all of it sort of ties into another nitpick, which was how the ending was executed, but I’m not going to explain that now. I will admit I’ve been kinda afraid to share this one, because this is one of those where a lot of people are going to get upset. All I ask is that you let me elaborate and explain before you get mad, and also please forgive me, because this whole thing is sort of....complicated, so I’ll try my best to explain and get across at what I mean. By now you should know that I talk a LOT. So...yeah, buckle in if you feel like reading possibly 2 essays. Thank you, and.....(deep breaths) here we go.
So nitpick involves Pepa Madrigal. (PLEASE HEAR ME OUT BEFORE YOU GO OFF 😭)
Tumblr media
First, I want to share how I feel about her in general, but I’m not going to explain FULLY because I want to save it for her character review. (Yes I’m still working on those, Isabella will be here soon). To make a long story short, yeah I love her. I love ALL the characters honestly, like, I swear Encanto is one of those movies where you can’t really HATE any of the characters no matter what, even Alma but BACK TO PEPA. I legit love her. (I also find her character concept hilarious) and feel so damn bad for her, like you can tell she’s literally suffering throughout the movie. She’s a 50 year old woman who has three kids, bags under her eyes, and is constantly under stress because if she feels any sort of strong emotion, she will get called out for it, and obviously not only that, flood the house or something. Anyway, I really like her, but I....have a sort of issue with her at the same time, and that’s where the nitpick comes in. And this, is honestly going to sound SO stupid I know, but I have to be honest so FINALLY, here’s the nitpick: Even though I love Pepa, her behavior towards her brother Bruno is keeping me from finding her as a.........L-LIKEABLE character, meaning... it’s keeping me from liking her “ALL THE WAY”, more than I do now you could say.
NOW HEAR ME OUT, LET ME EXPLAIN, LET ME EXPLAIN PLEASE JUST GIVE ME A CHANCE..........................are you still here? If you are thank you.
Now...before I get a bunch of comments saying “SHE CAN’T CONTROL THE WEATHER”, “SHE HAD A RIGHT TO BE UPSET AT HER WEDDING”, “IT’S BRUNO’S FAULT”, “SHE MISSED HER BROTHER THOUGH”, “SHE USED THE WEDDING AS A COPING MECHANISM”, —I know, I know, I know, I KNOW, and.....we’ll get to that last one. We’ll get to ALL of these, just let me explain. I have a few things to talk about, so what I’m going to do is analyze Pepa as a character and break down everything FIRST, organizing everything into a category so everything isn’t facoodled. (Messy). So before I actually EXPLAIN and get to and explain my nitpick, I need to do that first. I know you probably want me to get to the point, but I really need to talk about all of this BEFORE I do because it’s really important, I don’t want people to jump at me. This is the part of the ride where you hang on, so here we go.
1. PEPA’S CHARACTER/THOUGHTS: First, what do we know about Pepa’s character? Well, based on canon facts and the movie, Pepa is Alma’s daughter of three, the middle child according to Director Jared Bush on Twitter. Her gift is having her mood affect the weather, and is described to be “overly emotional” as well as someone who “overreacts” from time to time. We can clearly see this throughout the movie, as she is constantly on edge for the most part, worried. Her power obviously plays a role in this, as she is NOT allowed to feel any strong emotions, instead forced to try to calm down because if she doesn’t, a rain, a hurricane, a snowstorm, you name it happens, and Alma can’t have that, as she constantly tells her she has a cloud. In my eyes, her gift and Alma’s pressure caused her to be the woman she is now, always a little stressed, but luckily, Felix is there, as well as her brother and everyone else now. In the movie, Pepa’s arc was that she needed to learn to just let her emotions out, just feel what she needed to feel in the moment. If she needed to cry, let it rain. If she needed to be angry, let it storm, because we all know as human beings, it is NOT healthy to keep your emotions in. The interesting thing is this is VERY similar to Isabela’s arc as well! Anyway, just like the fandom, I feel so damn bad for Pepa, how could I not? Imagine growing up, you weren’t aloud to let loose with your emotions. You had to keep yourself stable as best as you could, and basically keep everything in. Her mother certainly didn’t help, as even when her kids were full grown adults, she was stern and committed, and even with Felix supporting her, you can tell everything was still difficult during the events of the movie. I just want to give this poor woman a hug, because she’s suffered enough, just like the rest of the cast.
Tumblr media
Before we move on, let’s talk about her as a CHILD, and I need you to pay attention to this part, because it’s important and ties into the category after the next one. Obviously, we don’t know anything about what she was like as a kid CANONICALLY, but as the audience, we can infer a lot of things. In my eyes, (and I think a lot of you will agree) since Peppa is described to be “overly emotional” and overreacting, I see her as a very sensitive kid. She probably cried a lot despite her gift, she also probably got angry and pouty when something deeply upset her, in fact I see her as VERY dramatic, getting upset at the littlest things, or the biggest things. Heck, I’m pretty sure Jared Bush said she was dramatic in a tweet, about why she was calling Julieta after casita crumbled. I also see her as stern in situations, especially when it comes to something she doesn’t like. But anyway, yeah, that’s how I see her as a kid, dramatic, overly emotional, DEFINITELY SENSITIVE, passionate when it came to showing how she felt, probably whiny too lol, but still a good kid. And no, this has nothing to do with the nitpick I had. Obviously, there’s NOTHING wrong with the traits I just stated. Again, we don’t know what she was like truly as a kid, but IF she was how I explained, there’s obviously nothing wrong with that lol. I have no issue with her being overly emotional, sensitive, or dramatic at all. A lot of kids are like that, and ADULTS are like that as well. Please keep this in mind.
Tumblr media
2. BRUNO’S CHARACTER/THOUGHTS: Don’t worry, I’m not going to talk long like I did in the category above, I’ll make this quick because we all know how Bruno is lol, it’s obvious. Bruno is the youngest child. His power to see into the future affected everyone to see him as some bad creepy omen, possibly causing him to be an introvert (that’s not canon we don’t know that for sure) but what is Bruno like outside of his gift? Well, he’s shy, kind, timid, goofy, sensitive, and is described to be an introvert (you and me both Bruno). What do we know canonically? Well, Jared bush on Twitter explains that even before he left, Bruno was introverted, not super comfortable around people, as he spent time on his own from time to time. Obviously Bruno isn’t some monster that the village was painting him to be, or some jerk. He cares about his family VERY much, and always has good intentions. It’s no surprise that I love Bruno. He’s a good guy, and must be protected. I could write a book on why he’s so lovable but....I love him. That’s all you need to know.
Now, what do I think Bruno as a child was like? Well, pretty much the same as an adult. In my eyes, he’s shy, timid, nervous, but at the same time he has a big heart, and can be open and goofy at times. While I think he’d be a little laid back and wouldn’t be as dramatic as pepa, I of course see him as very vulnerable and emotional as well. Whenever he gets upset, I don’t see him bursting into tears then and there like Pepa, I see him more hiding in a private place alone, then crying. He would also try to help of course, but be a bit of a screw up from time to time, similar to Agustín. Honestly Pepa and Bruno have something in common, they’re not entirely different, they both seem sensitive in their own ways and you can tell they’re both very emotional compared to Julieta, the more emotionally matured one.
Tumblr media
3. PEPA AND BRUNO’S RELATIONSHIP: First, let me say this. What I’m about to say is ALL SPECULATION AND INTERPRETATION, none of it will be canon, because surprise surprise, we don’t know ANYTHING about their relationship. All we know is that they love each other of course, and that’s it. Why would we know a lot though? That obviously wasn’t the film’s focus, and there wasn’t enough time to focus on it even if they wanted to. I put those words in bold letters just now because that is a phrase that is ganna pop back up MULTIPLE TIMES, so be prepared. Before I talk about what I think their relationship is like, let’s talk about what we already know........the song, but more importantly the wedding. DUN DUN DUN. In the movie when Maribel asks about her uncle Bruno, we see that Pepa is VERY stern and strict about his name being mentioned. She gets a cloud when Maribel says his name, so it’s clear she doesn’t like talking about him at all because it upsets her. Well, it could be for a few other reasons as well. We don’t know who started the whole “We don’t talk about Bruno” thing canonically, (that be an interesting question to ask Jared!) BUT a few fans either think it’s Pepa who started it, or Alma. Pepa because of how stern and upset she seemed, and Alma since she runs things. Anyway, after Pepa scolds Maribel, Felix comes in, and tries to tell her himself. ((Real quick, I’ve seen a few people say Felix doesn’t seem to have anything against Bruno, but judging by his lines- “She needs to know Pepe”, “It was a nightmare!”, “He would say something terrible, then boom! It would happen!” , “Then you better figure it out, because it was coming for you!”- I kinda disagree? I mean...in my eyes, it seems like Felix viewed Bruno the same way the townspeople did, a bad omen. That is just my opinion though. Sure, I know in the end he’s smiling towards Bruno and seems cool with him, but as for the events before the movie and before the end, it makes me wonder if Felix ever got to know Bruno outside of the wedding, since Bruno was so introverted. That’s another question you could ask Jared, I’m very curious about that!)) Anyway back to what happens! Pepa explains her wedding day, saying how her brother walked in with “a mischievous grin” and said “it looks like rain”, causing her to get really upset and worried, which resulted in a huge hurricane. Now we finally get to the part that’ll all be speculation and interpretation. What is Pepa and Bruno’s relationship like?
Tumblr media
Well first, what is their relationship like AFTER Bruno left? Well while again, we aren’t directly told canonically, as the audience we can infer a lot of things. In most people eyes and my eyes as well, Pepa is clearly upset towards Bruno, and why wouldn’t she be? He left the family, and supposedly ruined her wedding. Just like I said before, Pepa is VERY stern when it comes to her brothers name being mentioned, as you can clearly see when she overhears Maribel talking to herself. By how she acted, we can infer that she doesn’t want to mention her brothers name because she knows it’ll get her upset. She’ll probably feel so many emotions, anger, sadness, frustration, and remember, we can’t have that because of her power. (Now again, there could be that other reason as well, like maybe Alma was so strict about not mentioning Bruno that Pepa followed the same rule and only was so strict because she didn’t want her mother to hear, but that’s a theory, we don’t know for sure.) Anyway, after Bruno left, (here’s the speculation) in my eyes it seems that while Pepa was obviously upset and heartbroken, she eventually knew one thing. She NEEDED to move on. She NEEDED to accept the fact that her brother was probably never coming back, and that she needed to continue with her life, raising three kids as well as continue to help the community. She didn’t want to think about him or even mention his name, just try to be happy with the life she has now and forget Bruno. I think it’s clear to this entire fandom, that Pepa and Bruno’s relationship is complicated. It’s not black and white, especially if you compare it to how Julieta acted during the movie. She seemed to have no problem mentioning Bruno when it meant a serious matter, as she clearly says his name in a serious tone towards Maribel to make a point. Pepa on the other hand? She freaks out. It’s clear Pepa and Bruno’s relationship isn’t a simple answer. When I asked Jared on Twitter if Bruno’s sisters ever supported him when the town talked badly about him, he responded with “maybe a little bit of both”, but he said one thing that was very important. “Family dynamics are complicated.” And he’s absolutely right. Even though I wanted a straight answer, relationships are complicated and the world isn’t black and white. Sometimes one party is wrong, other times both are, and sometimes none are. That’s exactly how I would explain Bruno and Peppa’s relationship, Complicated. It’s clear they care about one another of course, but it’s complicated, and that’s not a bad thing.
Tumblr media
THE FANDOM’S INTERPRETATION: Finally, we get to the fandom’s interpretation. We don’t know anything about what Pepa and Bruno’s relationship was like BEFORE he left and as kids, all we know is that Alma was....better than she was after Maribel’s ceremony, and that’s it. There’s no canon facts to look at or what we have, other than the simple fact that they love each other, and the wedding. So how do most of the fandom view their relationship before he left? As someone who’s read a few fanfics and seen a LOT of Encanto comics, this is mainly the gist. The fandom mostly interprets her as a girl who yes, loves her brother, but didn’t really have the best relationship with him growing up. People infer that their relationship is basically sweet, but most of the times it’s just Bruno messing up, and then Pepa instantly blaming him, frustrated and upset. That’s why the comics I have seen are her mainly calling him a curse or saying something is “all his fault”. Now yes, there have been cute wholesome comics of the two bonding, like Bruno helping Pepa with the rain, or Pepa sticking up for Bruno being bullied, but I’m mainly talking about the downside of their relationship. What do I think? Well firstly, I sadly agree when it comes to Pepa blaming Bruno at times. From what little we see in the movie, it makes sense that their relationship would be like that, especially since Jared explained that Pepa is a person who is overly emotional. I will say this though, I don’t think it’s fair that people pin ALL of the blame on her, and portray her as someone who doesn’t give a shit about her brother. Now I know what you’re thinking, “BUT YOU SAID YOUR NITPICK WAS FINDING HER UNLIKABLE”- I know I said that, and I’ll finally get to that after I say this. I’ve seen so many people in the fandom say the wedding was her fault, or how she’s cruel for blaming Bruno when he was just trying to help, or how she paints him as some villain despite being her brother, or how she held a grudge for 10 years. Look, if you don’t like Pepa, that’s fine. I’m not going to list endless reasons why you should like a character and why you’re wrong, because I’m not that kind of person, hell, I mean I don’t like Isabela so....there’s that.
Anyway, I want to explain just a bit and elaborate on these specific fandom opinions. When it comes to the wedding, I think they’re BOTH at fault. Bruno should have been smart and knew that making a joke like that would have upset her, and Pepa overreacted, meaning she thought he was doing that to mess with her. I think people are missing the fact that Pepa wasn’t upset because she thought he did it on purpose, she was upset because she wondered why he would say that KNOWING she always freaks out. You can tell because she says “in doing so he floods my brain” and Felix says “why did he tell us?”. I mean that isn’t really canon or said directly but that’s what I think. Oh, and for the people who are saying “BuT sHE’S tHE OnE WhO COnTRolS thE wEAthER!” Guys......HER MOOD. HER MOOD AFFECTS THE WEATHER. NOT HER. IT’S LITERALLY A LINE IN THE OPENING SONG. When it comes to people saying she blamed him even though he was trying to help, guys....she didn’t KNOW that, and even if she did, it’s more of a “why would you say that!?” situation. Then people say she paints him as a villain. In my opinion, she doesn’t. It’s not like she’s one of the town’s people saying he’s creepy or is a bad omen, she’s just saying how she doesn’t talk about him, and what happened on her wedding day. She DID say he had a “mischievous grin” when it’s clear he was probably smiling nervously, but I think that’s sort of justified.....in a way. We have to remember that Peppa is dramatic, and she probably thought he was messing with her in a negative way. I can understand though if people don’t like that about her. Finally, when it comes to her holding a grudge for 10 years, well....there’s honestly multiple ways you could look at the situation. Remember when I said I’d get to the coping mechanism part? A lot of people seem to interpret that Pepa wasn’t that mad about the wedding, she just brought it up because she felt like she needed a reason to be mad at her brother when deep down she missed him. I actually.....really like that idea! Again, this is a theory the fandom thought up of, it’s not canon, but I do like it. It’s honestly what I kinda HOPE is the case if I’m being honest, but I ain’t ganna throw a hissy fit if it’s not.
Tumblr media
And FINALLY.......here we go. Now that I have explained ALLLLL OF WHAT I JUST SAID.......after EVERYTHING I said.........now I can finally come back to my nitpick and elaborate, so we’re at the end guys. WE’RE AT THE END. If you managed to stay THIS long.....this damn long.....wow I....I thank you because I would have lost my patience 3 paragraphs ago....LMAO. But really, if you managed to hear me out this far, I’m done wasting your time, on to what I said in the beginning.
So in the beginning, I said that my nitpick is that I find Pepa a little unlikable due to her attitude towards Bruno in the movie. I also said that while I love her to bits, the opinion I had was holding me back from liking her all the way. After everything I said, I still sort of stand by that. On one hand, I don’t like how she handled the situation. What I mean by that is, yeah, it SEEMS that she held this ridiculous grudge against him for 10 years, and when you think about it, you could argue that she shouldn’t have thought Bruno was messing with her since she grew up alongside him and should know what kind of person he is at this point. I also wonder if Pepa even stood up for Bruno when the town was making her brother out to be some monster, BEFORE he left I mean. That’s sort of ANOTHER reason to my statement, though it’s mainly one more reason. In the ending, you have Bruno apologize to her, and she listens yes, but when he tries to apologize more when he says “lot of apologies I got to say!”- Pepa and Julieta sort of just act like everything’s fine, and when you think about it, Pepa made it clear that she was upset, but when this man actually tries to apologize, the whole vibe I got was just “JK WE MISSED YOU” and it rubbed me off the wrong way. BEFORE YOU WRING MY NECK THOUGH, I do find the ending heartwarming at the same time. I find it tearjerking that deep down she missed her brother, and they DO say the line “no matter what happens we’re ganna find our way”- implying that even if they have their screw ups, things are going to be okay in the end. Here’s the thing, I feel like if we had more time dedicated to the relationship between her and her brother, THEN I think I would like Pepa fully.....if that....makes sense? I’m really trying to pull my direct thoughts and explain to all of you what I mean but it’s all difficult. I don’t blame the writers for not elaborating on their relationship, because they didn’t enough time, it’s obvious why they didn’t. However if they DID have enough time, I think that’s all it would take, then I’d be able to like Pepa all the way. Right now I don’t really, because it seems like she saw her brother as an issue, only to act like everything was okay between them in the end, and never really acted rational towards him in certain departments, (but again, not the writers fault, they had to end on a happy note). That’s sort of why whenever I watch the movie, her moments on Bruno bother me because it gets me thinking. Let me say this though, she’s a flawed character, ALL characters are flawed, that’s how life works, just like all PEOPLE are flawed. Having flawed characters IS NOT A BAD THING. I just needed to share all of this to the internet because it was honestly driving me crazy. I needed to get all of this off my chest so I could feel better in a way you could say, and now that it’s all out, I thank you for hearing me out. Pepa will ALWAYS be one of my favorite characters, I love her so much, I really do, but I felt like I needed to share the other emotions to her character that I had.
With this whole thing coming to a close, what are YOUR thoughts on Pepa? What are your thoughts on Pepa and Bruno’s relationship? And don’t be afraid to have an unpopular opinion, I won’t judge. Finally, what are your thoughts on my essay....book....analysis thingy....? Please feel free to share whatever thoughts you have below! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to collapse from all that typing. Goodbye! 💕👋

The Fortuneteller - Chapter I
Disclaimer: I really want to upload this to AO3 but I have yet to receive an invitation. When I do so, I will upload everything there. In the meantime, Tumblr it is.
This is a story I’m working on picking up on the clues and signs left by the movie as to what Bruno’s backstory is and the series of events that led him to ultimately disappear from his family’s life. This is for you, my people on the internet who love the character of Bruno as much as I do. Last but not least, I will say I am Panamanian-Colombian so trust me on the cultural references. Okay. Here goes.
The Fortuneteller
Chapter 1: The Door
On the evening of their fifth birthday, the Madrigal triplets were escorted out of their bedrooms by three glowing yellow butterflies. The children followed the light, leaving the nursery and walked all the way to the Casita’s upper corridor. It was in this area that they stopped, mesmerized by three glowing doors that seemed to appear as the butterflies met the wall.
“Mamá! Mira!” Julieta exclaimed, waking up Alma who was equally perplexed when she saw her children standing before three portals that were nonexistent only a few hours before. Portals that looked like the door to Alma’s room where the miracle’s candle was to be protected. The children proceeded to walk towards the portals, and each became embellished with a unique design. Pepa’s door displayed an image of a smiling woman with a blazing sun over her head. Julieta´s door, a caring woman crafting magical recipes. Bruno’s door showed a mysterious man behind an hourglass, the sands of time.
When Pepa walked through her door, it revealed an endless grassland with a clear blue sky. A rather plain landscape, initially, but when Pepa stepped on the grass, the wind started blowing, making the clouds dance in different formations, a kaleidoscope of white and blue.
In that moment, Alma knew her daughter had received a gift. The gift to control the weather.
Julieta stepped into a beautiful greenhouse, full of fruit trees, vegetables, herbs and spices, that looked impeccably nursed, and in the center of the greenhouse, a stone kitchen with every instrument you could possibly think of. The core of her gift wouldn’t be revealed until later, but the environment was delightful, and she felt right at home. After all, she loved helping her mother in the kitchen and recipes seemed to come to her naturally despite her young age.
Bruno was hesitant to walk through his door. Being the most sensitive among his siblings, things with him tended to proceed with more caution. While his little head was analyzing every possible outcome, he felt the warmth of his mother’s hand around his.
“Hijo, it’s ok. Mamá will be here, no matter what. This is a gift given by the same love that saved us 5 years ago. Everything will be ok.”
Bruno took a deep breath and stepped through the portal. Instead of revealing a scenery like in his sister’s rooms, he was met with a giant hourglass-like structure and falling sand. It was no different from a waterfall. The child almost turned around in terror, but this time he was met by a different gaze from his mother that he knew very well. The same gaze she used to make sure they finished their meal, brushed their teeth and went to bed on time. He wouldn’t dare defy it. Alma was a figure of love and respect, a little more of the latter. Bruno found the courage to step through the sand waterfall, and with his eyes still shut on the other side, he just stood there, waiting for something to happen. When he could feel that nothing was moving around him or hurting him, he slowly took a peek.
The scene before him was humbling.
The room appeared as what could only be architecture carved inside a mountain. The colossal natural rock formations intertwined with more structural elements created this cathedral-like ambiance where a child could only feel smaller. Lonelier.
Bruno looked at the flight of stairs that seemed to go on forever. Intimidated by the challenge yet threatened by his mother’s previous reaction, he moved forwards.
It took him what felt like an eternity to reach the top. Exhausted, he crossed a small bridge that connected the end of the stairs with an upper chamber. He could hear the distant voice of his mother from the other side. “I will be waiting here when you are ready”.
Bruno advanced into a chamber of concentric circles with majestic pillars and carvings on the walls. It was a ceremonial chamber. When he arrived at the center, he felt a strange sensation. Every hair in his body was standing up, as if being visited by an electric current. He sank into the sensation like one would sink in quicksand, and the air that previously was still, started swirling around him. A whirlwind of sand and green luminosity enveloped him completely, and in the haze, he could see two figures. One was an adult Pepa next to Julieta of the same age, accompanied by three children each. The children took after them, and they were smiling. He tried to focus, looking for himself in the vision, but he could only see his sisters. The children were looking at him, or so it seemed. One of them caught his attention in particular, a girl with hair just like his own and round green glasses. They all looked happy, except for her. Young Bruno had no idea what to make of this. As he slowly exhaled, the whirlwind started to lose momentum and slowly faded away. The sand left behind a crystalized tablet, reflecting the image of his sisters and the kids. He took it with him and initiated the descent through the stair formation.
When Bruno finally made it to the other side, his mother was waiting impatiently. “Dios mio, you scared me Brunito! I thought something had happened to you in there!” she said running to his side. Bruno was flushed, holding the object in his hands. “Look mamá, I had a weird dream but I was awake and I was seeing things like in a dream and I saw Pepa and Julieta and they had kids and they looked like this—” and as he reached to show the tablet to his mother, he tripped with his own sandal and fell to the floor, the glass tablet shattering. “Ow!” He exclaimed rubbing his face. “Brunito!” Alma picked him up from the floor. “Are you ok?” She quickly scanned him and then changed her tone again “You saw your sisters? They had children with them? I barely took a glance at the thing you were holding but it looked like them. Mijo, you saw their future?”.
Bruno was still very confused. “I don’t know… I… Think? There was a sad girl with short hair and gla—”
Alma interrupted him.
“Hijo. I was impressed with your sisters’ gifts. But yours?” She lowered him back to the floor and knelt to meet his gaze. With peering eyes and a solemn tone, she said “Your gift is truly a miracle. A fortuneteller. The jewel to our family’s crown. Bruno, your gift can change our world.”
—–
Alright guys, your motivation will keep me writing the next chapters. Don’t hesitate to provide feedback and let me know if you like the story so far so I can keep going until the end! <3

ok hear me out. this was posted by @the_.madrigals on instagram. look at Mirabel. Everyone else is well posed. Dolores doing her little 'I hear something!' pose (which nobody else is doing a pose to 'show' what their power is so I 100% assume she actually heard something as this photo was taken and my girl looks confused lol). Camilo has his arm around Antonio. Pepa and Felix are behind them being adorable. Abuela, as always, is in the middle holding the candle. Agustín is behind Julieta and Isabela being adorable (:D) and Luisa is also on the end with Mirabel. Mirabel 100% got pulled in by Luisa. She has her arms crossed and she's leaning awkwardly. she's at like... 240 degree angle lol. She was going to be so far off to the side, standing away from her family. She could've just stood infront of Luisa. She's tall enough. But then she would have to stand next to Isabela and look like she wasn't being almost excluded by the family. Also her smile is killing me. it's the smile a lot of kids do whenever their parent is taking a photo of them and they have to smile and they don't want to.
But, in all seriousness, I saw a post one day where someone was talking about a certain lyrics in the song "The Family Madrigal"
"But now you all know the Family Madrigal
I never meant this to get autobiographical
So just to review the Family Madrigal"
Mirabel doesn't want to talk about herself. Ok, she has no gift. We get it. Because this song is pretty much just about their powers. But she includes the guys also. They don't have powers so even they are included (but Im pretty sure they're just held to a different standard and it's "okay" that they don't have powers just bc they're married in). In the post, OP also analyzed that not including herself in the song also means she doesn't really see herself as being part of "the family Madrigal". I think this photo (along with the photo taken after Antonio got his gift in his room right before the song "Waiting on a Miracle") shows just how much Mirabel feels like she's so distant/separated from her family. In the photo, she was almost forced into it by Luisa, her smile is painful, and honestly? I think she doesn't even want to be in it. Although the towns people know she's in the family Madrigal and include her in some ways, she's still treated differently than them (like Bruno - like how he's in the mural in the town but isn't talked about) and probably is talked about differently. Yep that's all.

Braids
camilo madrigal x reader
desc. this is just a little snippet, even tho there is no NSFW in this short, both the reader and Camilo are 18, but are still in school. do not read if you are under 18. the reader is insecure about her hair, and camilo slowly encourages her to become more confident with her hair being down. Don’t even know if that makes sense lol, but have at it anyway.
Ever since you were a little girl, you had always been insecure about your hair. It was dark, thick, curly, and untamable. You hated anyone touching it, especially when your mother tried to brush it down or fix it. The only solution, is braiding it every single day. You hated braiding your hair. It made your arms tired, it took a lot of work since it was so thick. But, that’s how it had to be.
And that’s how it was this morning, trying to braid your mess of a hair, while your best friend, Camilo Madrigal, of the amazing Madrigal family, was standing in your doorway, waiting to walk together to school. He was the only person aside from your family who was allowed to see it down. You’d known him since you were 4, you watched him get his gift, watched him reunite with his long lost uncle, Bruno. You trusted him with your life, so, he could see your hair.
“I really don’t understand, amor, you look so beautiful with it down… it’s obvious you don’t like doing this every morning.” He says, while sitting on your bed, staring at you through your mirror on your vanity. You blush slightly at his nickname for you, sigh, and answer, “Camilo, we’ve been through this. I hate how it looks, and everyone else does too.” He looks at you shocked, and slowly says, “You.. really think that? Y/N, I can’t believe you just said that.” You turn around confused, you had never heard him speak in that tone. You decide to just shrug as an answer. You tie the final braid with a tie and stand up, Camilo standing up with you.
The whole day, you had been analyzing his words, his tone, the way he said that. He sounded… wounded. Like he thought you were conditioned to think that way of yourself and your appearance. You never had any other problems with yourself, just your hair. You couldn’t figure out what his deal was.
At lunch, you sat where you normally sat, waiting for Camilo. After a few minutes, you saw him walking over with the usual, at least 10 arepas. He always got extra because he shaped himself into other people. You laughed a bit as he struggled to balance them on his plate. “Wow Camilo, you ever leave any for anybody else?” He looks at you, with a fake angry expression, and jokes, “Of course not! I mean technically, in the Lunch Lady’s eyes, everyone’s eaten.” He smiles at you, and you blush again.
When you were 10, you finally realized what your true feelings were for Camilo. You never acted. He had dated girls here and there, you never really got too interested with anyone else. It was always him. You were always too shy, though, so you buried those thoughts deep down. You never thought he felt the same. Of course, there were moments. He had asked you to dance at his little brother’s gift ceremony, of course his sister and multitude of cousins hassled him about it for AGES, but you never thought it meant anything. He has always been there for you, and you for him, purely and platonically, even if you always wanted more.
So finally, the school day ends, and you and Camilo were walking back home. You always went to his casita, his home, to hangout in his room and sometimes have dinner with his huge family. As you two sit on his bed, in his huge room, all expertly decorated to his abilities and aesthetic, you felt him staring at you. “Y/N, can we talk about something?” Once you made eye contact with him, he asked that, and quickly looked down at his sheets. “Yes, of course Camilo, what’s up?”
“I just feel like you don’t appreciate yourself, especially your hair. And I know it sounds cringey, and I’m sorry, but you’re perfect. In every way. I guess I’m just saying I don’t understand.” He rambles, and you just stare at him. “Camilo, I believe every word you say, but I just don’t know. I’m so used to hiding it. I hate it, i do. I just feel like I need it.” You speak softly, and unexpected tears prick your eyes. You had never given so much thought to something as simple as hiding your hair. You were so used to it.
“Please, amor, do not hide yourself. Ive been wanting to say this for awhile. I love you, so much, for forever I’ve seen you hide yourself. I can’t bear it.” He looks down quickly, and you look at him shocked. He had said I love you before, never like this though. This felt different. “Camilo, I love you too. I will think about it.” Your mind is racing, did he mean it as friends, something more? Why did you say it back? You gather your things, wanting to go home and think things over.
The next morning, after a long night of consideration, you wake up, and decide that maybe, it is time for a change. You grab some hair products from your mother, and begin working. It takes 10 minutes of work, but… it looks.. amazing. You stare at the mirror and you feel beauty like you’ve never felt before. You look back through the mirror, and see Camilo, standing in your doorway. But, this morning, it’s a small smile.
“Mi amor, you look gorgeous. Come here.” He says, and motions with his hands for you to come to him. You hug him, and he leans back slightly, so the both of you are eye to eye. He stares a bit before speaking, “Dolores may or may not have told me… she heard you rambling… about whether or not I meant what I said last night.” He pauses and continues, “I meant every word, Y/N, I’ve loved you for awhile.” You look at him, smile, and lean forward so your foreheads are touching. “I love you too, Camilo. No more braids, no more lying to myself, and no more lying to you.” You say softly, and as he listens to your words, he holds them in his mind, in his memory, as he slowly leans forward and kisses you.
As you two are walking to school, hand in hand, you think to yourself that maybe letting down your hair wasn’t the worst thing in the world.
an. ha. i don’t even know if this is good or if it’s all over the place but… here it is! just felt like writing it. thank you for reading of you got this far!! lmk what you think!

i have to talk about something seriously because,, well, can’t make jokes out of everything now can i? heh..
i saw this.. post analyzing all of the family trauma and i just.. want to talk about mine a little bit because god.. it was true.. because of my gift, i was always asked to be other people. “camilo we need x” “camilo can you be y?” and … yeah eventually it got to me. it felt as though more often than not everyone wanted me to be someone different but,, nobody wanted me, camilo madrigal. the only person who noticed was dolores because she felt the same thing, her gift always being used to pass on other peoples words and not her own …
eventually i just ,, tried to stop caring because why should i anyway? it’s my gift and at least i’m being helpful right? i tried using it in a way that benefited me; by making people laugh. i’d feel good about myself if i got people to laugh. but… when there’s nobody there to get giggling and i’m left alone, i feel like i don’t even know who i am … i don’t know if my parents loved me as me. i.. wish i could hear it again

Anomaly
"Wake up," someone hissed in Sebastian's ear, urgent and... frightened? He roused himself, lifting his head to look around. Clove was standing at his side--likely the one who'd woken him--with Ramedar and Tea close by, along with a few other dragons. The rest of the band, he supposed, the ones who he hadn't met yet. All of them looked... well, small, to put it bluntly. It didn't help that most of them were crouched down, clustered together. Then he noticed the trees. Not the broken ones laying on the ground from whatever had brought him to this place--the still-standing ones, across the clearing. They were shaking violently, like a storm wind was approaching... but the sky was clear. A low, soft sound reached him then. "Music?" he whispered, glancing down at the group. "It's... this isn't natural," Ramedar said, brisk despite her obvious nervousness. "I know what magical disasters feel like, I can sense when a catastrophe has recently occurred or will occur soon. But this... I've never felt anything like this." Sebastian's eyes widened. He didn't like the Pearlcatcher much, perhaps, but already he'd come to trust that she knew what she was talking about. And if even she had no clue what was going on.... Were they in serious trouble?
A disturbance near the trees caught Sebastian's gaze. Dark shapes fluttered around, darting up above the canopy, diving back down erratically. "What's that?" he muttered, coaxing his limbs forward. Tea swooped up from the ground, eyes narrowing as he watched. "Looks like some sort of fight, maybe? I'm pretty sure those're Talonok--too small for Harpies--but what are they after?" Talonok. Sebastian shivered at the mention of the winged Beastclan. He'd had a few run-ins with them before, in the body of his smaller, better, dragon form; most encounters had been... decent, but there'd been times where he had been lucky to get out unscathed. Still, though. His body was that of an Imperial's, tough and strong and huge, and surely that counted for something. And he was curious. Had these Talonok somehow made the trees shake so violently? Were they the cause of the unearthly music? "Well, let's go check it out," he said finally, relieved that his limbs seemed to be far more controllable than last night. "Tea, you with me?" The Nocturne hesitated, glancing back down at his group, then at the Beastclan fight, but eventually decided to perch on Sebastian's head. It took only a few minutes to reach the trees, and Sebastian cautiously made his way in, lamenting the loss of his slenderness and agility as he pushed through the undergrowth. The higher branches were whipped into a frenzy, lashing out every whichway, but underneath that chaos, nothing seemed odd or out of place. "Talonok!" he called out, scanning the gloom. "Did you cause this?" Heartbeats passed by, full of silence. Tea hunkered down a little more, digging into Sebastian's mane. "Talonok!" he tried again. "I saw your group above the tree line; I know you're somewhere in here! We just want to stop whatever these weird stuff is that's happening, I promise!" Eventually a shape fluttered out of the darkness, ghostly white. But... it wasn't a Talonok. Tea shifted position, leaning down to whisper "Fae" in Sebastian's ear. A dragon, then... the Talonoks' quarry, perhaps? Before Sebastian could speak, the little Fae darted over, wings flapping frantically, and shot onto the Imperial's head. The music picked up then, getting louder and louder--and more and more chaotic. Sebastian tilted his head, carefully, hoping to get an angle to see his second rider. "Who are you? Do you know what's going on?" The Fae hissed, "We need to get out of here. Now." Her paws tugged uselessly at his mane, as if he could be guided. Sebastian bristled, giving up on trying to see her--she sounded feminine, anyways. "Tell me what's going on first." "Oh, I can do that for you, Imperial," a voice seethed, and Sebastian once again felt a ripple of annoyance at being called what he wasn't. A single Talonok flew towards him, gripping daggers in their claws. "She's what made the trees move. She's upset our young and the Corven, with this... magic she has," they spat. "And so soon after the night of the eclipse, too." "Nothing would've happened if you hadn't started chasing me!" the Fae retorted, pulling harder at a lock of mane. "Your warriors were threatening to kill me!" "We protect our own," the Talonok snarled, lifting up a dagger. "We do what we must to survive, against you foul creatures." "Enough!" Tea broke in, slamming a paw down. Sebastian winced--did both of them really have to treat him so? "I understand your concerns, Talonok, but I'm sure this Fae meant no harm to you or your people. As for me and my friend, we only wanted to investigate the strange occurrence here. We will go in peace." "See that you do," they answered, glaring. "The little dragon may have been lucky enough to escape once, but she will not do so again. We will not show mercy to one whose magic disturbs our way of life." The Talonok swept back in the direction they'd come, calling out to their brethren. Sebastian huffed a sigh, edging backwards until he could easily turn around and return to the clearing. The music had quieted down, back to the soft tune he'd heard earlier, and the trees seemed to be calmer. The group gathered around him immediately, pestering the Fae with questions. "Leave her be," Tea commanded, but she protested, flying down into the group. "It's alright--I'll answer your questions and then be on my way. I was only passing through the area," she explained. "My name is Naomi, and yes, I was the one that affected the trees and made the music. Odd things often happen around me--I call them 'anomalies', and they get worse if, say, a group of Talonok wants me dead. But once I leave, things should go back to normal." She smiled, turning to Sebastian. "Thank you for saving me. I'll remember your help today." Tea called over a Nocturne, who flew off moments later to the small building that was the group's sleeping quarters. "I'll give you a gift, to keep you well-fed on your travels," he said, offering a hastily-wrapped parcel to her. She took it, turning it over in her hands. "Thank you!" she said, surprised. "I don't have far to go, but... this is nice. Thanks." She beat her wings, hard, soaring up into the sky. Sebastian watched her go, blowing a gentle stream of air her way to aid her ascent. As promised, the trees had entirely stilled. Sebastian mulled the experience over, wondering what about her made such anomalies... what magic caused them. He was sure Ramedar was probably thinking the same thing, probably wanting to analyze it all. Maybe they'd meet up again, some day--although hopefully under better circumstances.
