Covid-19 and Heart attack
COVID-19 has been a triggering factor for heart attack cases which have been on high rise in 2023-2024. The cardiac health statistics have changed drastically after the pandemic of covid-19. Now, you may be wondering why COVID cases are related to lung issues and why heart attack or cardiac cases are on high rise.
In this article, we shall tell you the in-depth connection between the coronavirus and heart attack problems.
A heart attack is medically termed a myocardial infarction which means a reduced supply of oxygen to the heart. This reduces the inability of the heart to function properly causing defects in the supply of oxygen and blood to the heart causing heart damage.
Covid-19 and cardiac problems of heart attacks are connected with reduced oxygen supply to the heart due to post-covid damage to the lungs or the respiratory system. Moreover, if you have been suffering from comorbidities such as hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes, positive COVID-19 cases are at higher risk of heart attacks.
Let us know why heart attacks are more common after COVID-19? in the next part of the article.

Why are heart attacks more common after Covid-19?
Covid-19 has been a difficult time for everyone. Moreover, the after-effects of the Covid-19 have been long-lasting. Right from mental health issues to respiratory issues, post-covid effects have affected every system of the body. One such issue is cardiac-related problems leading to heart attack post-covid which have been on high rise in the year 2022-2023. The reasons behind post-covid heart attacks are as follows-
Reduced blood supply and oxygen supply to the heart
Increased post-inflammatory changes
Increased stress levels
Multi-system inflammatory syndrome
Elevated levels of troponin after being covid positive
Pre-existing respiratory or cardiac problems
Symptoms of heart attack
It is time to consult your doctor on an immediate basis if you are experiencing any of the signs and symptoms mentioned below-
Rapid heartbeat or palpitations
Temporary increase in heart rate with sudden onset
Irregular heartbeat, heart rate, and rhythm
Pain or uneasiness in left arm, neck, jaw, and back
Feeling lightheadedness
Dizziness and vertigo especially on standing from a sitting position
Chest congestion, discomfort, or chest pain
Shortness of breath
Profuse sweating
Numbness of extremities
Bluish and cyanosed lips
Ankle swelling or bilateral leg swelling
Sudden weakness or tiredness with a sinking sensation
Nausea and vomiting

had to use an epipen... but have traumas around needles that i am not controlling. (an auto-injector, is technically not a needle i am in control of.)
i couldnt tell if anaphylaxis was switching from slow-onset/progession to rapid (or if bc i was trying to psych myself up for so long it just progressed to more life threatening stage) or if it was just a panic attack causing symptoms while trying to psych myself up to inject myself (ontop of initial anaphylaxis symptoms, i got severe chest pain, heart palpitations, severe nausea, face and mouth numb and tingly, severe difficulty breathing, feeling like i went underwater and about to pass out...)
its so hard, bc i try to. i try, but the arms fucking stop before i can stab my fricking leg. like, ummm I WANT TO LIVE??? let me administer my own fucking epipen??? but my body just... wont. someone within or maybe just fear stops me from doing it. so i try to psych myself up, try to see if i could maybe just put it against my leg and then push down with my body weight, while imaging that i am the one controlling the needle. it doesnt work. tried this and various other methods.
eventually i ended up accidentally triggering the epipen... but it was inside my skin for less than one second bc it like "kicks back". ugh ughhhhhhh.
im going to try and meditate and reiki myself, and take more bendryl too. hope i wont need another epi... honestly idk if ill be able to do it again. the needle wasnt even bad, it didnt even hurt. but idk if ill get worked up again abt it.
id been telling myself, "the fear wont get in the way if i had rapid-onset anaphylaxis, so ik in the future id be fine to just stab myself. im only hesitating and having this issue because this exact moment is not life threatening (even though it will progress to that??)" but after that, when i legit think it couldve been mostly actual anaphylaxis issues, rather than just a panic attack... and i still wasnt able to as i was legit abt to pass out?? fuck fuckkkk. im concerned. how do i get over this? how do i help myself in emergencies?
ik ive had to have someone else administer epipens in the past when anaphylaxis has presented with increased weakness or confusion and i wasnt able to do it myself.
but idk if i could allow myself to let someone else do it... that makes it a needle im in even less control of. fuck.

Anxiety Disorder Bingo!
At various points in the past, I’ve been diagnosed with several anxiety disorders: GAD, mild agoraphobia, OCD, Social Anxiety, Specific Phobia, and PTSD (which used to be classified as an anxiety disorder but got moved to a new section in the DSM-V). Not all at the same time, and I didn't agree with some of the diagnoses, but that's what doctors have said. Basically, the only anxiety disorder I've never been diagnosed with is Panic Disorder.
Until now, baby! I’ve got myself an anxiety disorder bingo.
What I’ve been calling “panic attacks” my whole life, I learned today, were not panic attacks. They were anxiety attacks. Anxiety attacks are a response to a perceived threat. They lead to some physical symptoms like increased heart rate, but mostly they cause a rush of emotional distress. Basically, when something triggers my PTSD, the flashback puts me back in the same emotional state as when the trauma was happening. That's an anxiety attack.
A panic attack, however, can occur with or without a known trigger, and it’s a very physiological response. These are the symptoms of a panic attack:
Palpitations, pounding heart, or accelerated heart rate.
Sweating.
Trembling or shaking.
Sensations of shortness of breath or smothering.
Feelings of choking.
Chest pain or discomfort.
Nausea or abdominal distress.
Feeling dizzy, unsteady, light-headed, or faint.
Chills or heat sensations.
Paresthesias (numbness or tingling sensations).
Derealization (feelings of unreality) or depersonalization (being detached from oneself).
Fear of losing control or “going crazy.”
Fear of dying.
Out of thirteen symptoms, only two refer specifically to emotional responses. The rest are sensations of the body. Panic attacks often come on with no warning in people who are not emotionally distressed in any way, which is why people so often think they’re having a heart attack and dying when they happen.
This development  is really annoying, honestly. My depression is slowly improving with Prozac, my GAD is very well managed, I’m reducing my self-harm, I’m working on healing my trauma...and NOW of all times, I start to have panic attacks??? Why now?
My doctor prescribed as-needed propranolol to try first, but said that he’s not opposed to trying a low dose benzodiazepine if it comes down to it. Because these attacks are so physical and I don’t feel a lot of fear or emotional distress during them, I’m hopeful that a non-psychotropic drug will help. But it’s good to know that’s not my only option.

6 days seems like a long ass time
But hey
Two years of ignorance.

Aconitum Napellus
*This is a POISON.
(I know a lot of this is medical terms and may be hard to understand- I basically look up every term I come across. I’ve included definitions for most, but not all. I have tried finding my list of sources, but I have lost them. I have NOT personally had experience with this; therefore, some information may be slightly off, or not accurate according to new studies. Feel free to add new information, definitions, or facts. I am NOT a health professional.)
Common Names: Aconite, Monk’s Hood, Wolf’s Bane, Blue Rocket, Queen of Poisons, Soldier’s Helmet, Devil’s Helmet, Mouse Bane, Leopard’s Bane, Women's’ Bane, Brute Killer, Dog Killer
Native to: Central and Western Europe, Asia
Toxicity: Severe. All parts of the plants are toxic, especially the roots and root tubers
Poison will enter the body through contact with skin, contact with broken skin or wounds, ingestion, consuming any part of the plant.
The taste of the poison is a very bitter one, followed by a burning of the mouth and possibly esophagus, then numbing of the mouth.
Toxins in the plant include:
Aconitine- cardiotoxin (heart toxin) and neurotoxin (nerve toxin)
Mesaconitine
Hypaconitine
Side Effects can take a few minutes to a few hours to show.
Side Effects Include:
Abdominal Pain
Nausea
Vomiting
General Numbness
Partial Paralysis
Respiratory Paralysis
Paresthesia- abnormal sensation of the skin (tingling, numbness, chilling, burning, prickling) with no apparent physical cause
Diarrhea
Bradycardia- abnormally slow heart rythym
Hypotension
Chest pain
Palpitations
Sinus tachycardia- elevated sinus rhythm characterized by an increase in the rate of electrical impulses arising from the sinoatrial node (group of cells in the wall of the heart’s right atrium). In adults, sinus tachycardia is defined as a heart rate greater than 100 beats/min (bpm)
Ventricular ectopics- extra heart beats originating in the bottom heart chambers
Ventricular tachycardia- fast abnormal heart rate
Ventricular fibrillation- rapid and erratic electrical impulses of the heart
Defective color vision
The main causes of death are refractory ventricular arrhythmias & asystole. The severity of the toxins are related to the onset of rapid heart rhythm changes
Preexisting health conditions, old age, pregnancy, and breast feeding may amplify the side effects.
Overall in-hospital mortality is 5.5%
Antidotes & Remedies-
It has been reported that the effects of aconite can be buffered/eliminated by various alchemical methods.
Management is supportive, including immediate attention to vital functions and close monitoring of blood pressure & cardiac rhythm.
Inotropic therapy** is required if hypotension persists. Atropine*^ should be used to treat bradycardia.
Aconite-induced ventricular arrhythmias are often refractory to direct current cardioversion & antiarrhythmic drugs.
Available clinical evidence suggests that amiodarone & flecainide are reasonable first-line treatment.
In refractory cases of ventricular arrhythmias & cardiogenic shock, it’s most important to maintain systemic blood flow, blood pressure, & tissue oxygenation by early use of cardiopulmonary bypass.
The role of charcoal hemoperfusion to remove circulating aconitine alkaloids is not established.)
The early use of cardiopulmonary bypass is recommended if ventricular arrhythmias and cardiogenic shock are refractory to first-line treatment
**An inotrope is an agent that alters the force or energy of muscular contractions
*^ Atropine is a medication used to treat certain types of nerve agent and pesticide poisonings as well as some types of slow heart rate, and to decrease saliva production during surgery
Reducing toxicity-
Boiling, steaming, or soaking the plant may reduce toxicity due to the toxins being heat sensitive alkaloids. Since the toxic effect of raw aconite can be buffered/eliminated altogether by various alchemical methods, early Chinese medical texts focus much attention on processes involving the production of processed aconite. This includes procedures with special growing & harvesting techniques, special processing techniques, & herb combining techniques that blend the processed root with other foods and medicinal substances to safeguard against negative side effects.
Ancient Chinese herbalists espoused a distinct concept of space referred to as “daodi yaocai” (herbs grown in a proper location). This concept is especially used when dealing with a variation of the Aconitum Napellus plant.
Li Shizhen and other ancient authorities of Chinese materia medica invariably state that “the best [aconite] is produced in Mianzhu in the region of Shu (northern part of today’s Sichuan province). Although aconite plants can also be found in other areas, they are unsuitable for treating disease.” A Song dynasty account gives a description of this particular region that is still known for producing China’s only “genuine” aconite
The Chinese materia medica contains about 70 recorded types of post-harvest processing techniques aimed at reducing the toxic potential of aconite. The toxic effect of aconite stems from its alkaloids, especially aconitine. Since this ingredient is sensitive to heating, the processes of roasting, boiling or in most recent times, pressure-steaming, can reduce the effects of most alkaloids. Ancient Chinese texts specify that before heating, the aconite tuber should be peeled with bamboo knives. This labor-intensive technique has been abandoned in the modern production of medicinal aconite.
There is emphasis on the removal of the salt used for preservation of the aconite tubers after the harvest before they are brought to market. After the harvest, the unprocessed aconite root will decay rapidly (within a week) unless it is immediately immersed in brine. Brine immersion will embalm the root during the time when the entire year’s harvest is waiting for the typical step-by-step detoxification process consisting of skin removal and the application of heat. Traditional paozhi techniques specify that all brine is removed from the raw aconite slices before steaming or baking them, by soaking and rinsing them repeatedly in basins of fresh water. Seasoned Fire School practitioners, i.e. the contemporary scholar-physicians Drs. Lu Chonghan and Liu Lihong, have observed that industrial aconite production during the last two decades has flooded the market with high salt content aconite slices. To most kidney deficient patients, this significant salt residue in most pharmacy grade aconite (70% in most contemporary aconite products) is harmful and may be partially responsible for some of the side effects associated with aconitine alkaloids in the pharmacological literature. In addition, it has become common practice in recent years to remove the root peel by immersion in hydrochloric acid, defying the stringent alchemical experience of aconite detoxification garnered during the last two millennia.
Medicinal Uses -
Medicinal applications of aconite were not fully explored until the 18th century when Viennese physician Anton Stoerck published his clinical observations about benefits of the “internal use of aconite in humans” in 1762. Alleged therapeutic uses include treatment of joint & muscle pain. As a tincture applied to skin, it’s claimed to slow heart rate in cardiac patients. Other claimed uses: reduction of fevers & cold symptoms. Some take it by mouth for facial paralysis, joint pain, gout, finger numbness, cold hands & feet, inflammation, painful breathing & fluid in space surrounding the lungs (pleurisy), certain heart problems (pericarditis sicca), fever, skin diseases, & hair loss. Aconite is also used as a disinfectant to treat wounds & promote sweating. Some apply aconite to skin in liniment as a “counter irritant” for treating facial pain, joint pain, & leg pain (sciatica). Aconite root contains chemicals that may improve circulation, but also contains chemicals that can harm the heart, muscles, & nerves
.
History-
Aconitum Napellus was used in ancient times as poison on spears and arrows for hunting and battles. The tips and (possibly) shafts pf arrows were covered with the poison so anyone helping a wounded soldier may get poisoned as well by skin contact.
As wolfsbane, it was believed to repel werewolves and wolves. The poison was placed in raw meat which would kill wolves attacking livestock.
Ancient Romans used it as a method of execution.
In Hong Kong, aconite is the most common cause of severe poisoning from herbs. In Asia, toxicity is related to the use of aconite in traditional medicines. In western countries, aconite poisoning is associated with consuming the plant
Supposedly used in times of war by retreating armies to poison enemy water supplies. Generals would realize the poisoning and be forced not to pursue the enemy.
The poison was placed on the tips of harpoons to kill whales more easily.
The murder of Percy John by his brother-in-law, Dr. George Henry Lampson, was carried out using aconite
“If [aconite] sap is condensed by simmering, it is called Shewang (Shooting Net) and used to kill wild animals.” The 5th century Daoist hermit Tao Hongjing elaborates further: “When the sap of the raw [aconite] vine is extracted by mortaring it to a pulp, and then concentrating it by simmering, the paste yielded from this process is called Shewang. Arrows dipped into it can be used by hunters to shoot wild animals; when hit by such an arrow, an animal will fall to the ground after 10 steps. If a human is struck by such an arrow, s/he will die as well, unless the poison is swiftly neutralized by an antidote.
Known Cases
Very low margin of safety between therapeutic and toxic doses of aconitine.
A 66-year-old female with no known heart disease obtained Aconite from an herbalist. She was instructed to make tea with it to treat her osteoarthritis*. About 90 minutes after consuming the tea she developed numbness of the face, arms, & legs. Rapidly followed by nausea, weakness, & chest pressure. In an Emergency Room, she was found to have an abnormal heart rhythm. After 4 hours of treatment with drugs & electrical shocks to her heart, a normal heart rhythm was restored.
* most common form of arthritis. It occurs when the protective cartilage cushioning the ends of bones wears down over time
There are cases of poisoning in which people intentionally swallow Aconitum napellus they grow because of claimed therapeutic effects. A 21-year-old male acquired Aconitum napellus plants after reading a book on herbal medicine. He ground up the dried roots & filled capsules with the material. He took 1 capsule daily for several months to treat anxiety. (No symptoms were reported during that time) In order to increase the effects one evening, he swallowed 3 capsules and went to sleep. Five hours later he awoke with generalized numbness, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, chest pain, shortness of breath, & defective color vision (seeing purple). It was believed that early symptoms went unnoticed because he was asleep. In an ER, his heart rate was 43 bpm, and he had an abnormal heart rhythm. Plasma concentrations of aconitine supported poisoning by A. napellus. He spent 48 days in the hospital.
SOURCES: N/A, my list was lost when moving my information to a new document. I know for a fact I have spanned at least 6 websites, and 2 YouTube videos (only one of which was helpful) as well as the materia medica of John Henry Clark

٭Anxiety٭
Well shit, we’re back. (If this somehow makes it to your home page, I have so many other mental illness posts for mental health awareness.)
ANYWAYS. Anxiety, who’s she? Well, by Google’s dumbass definition, it’s “ a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.” Now, I can easily tell that whoever came up with the definition for the word, does not have anxiety.
Let me break it down for you. Anxiety is experienced by everyone, every day. But when someone with an anxiety *disorder* tries to explain that they have anxiety, they are told to get over it. This is genuinely depressing, the amount that I have been told to get over my anxiety. (I have both social anxiety disorder {S.A.D} and anxiety disorder, so it hurts a bit more-) It’s more than just being afraid to raise your hand in class to ask a question, more than not being able to present a project in class.
✬Symptoms of Anxiety Disorder✬    ~Nervousness, restlessness, or being tense    ~Feelings of danger, panic, or dread    ~Rapid heart rate   ~Rapid breathing, or hyperventilation    ~Increased or heavy sweating    ~Trembling or muscle twitching    ~Weakness or lethargy    ~Difficulty focusing or thinking clearly about anything other than the thing you’re worried about   ~Insomnia    ~Digestive or gastrointestinal problems   ~A strong desire to avoid things that trigger your anxiety    ~Obsessions about specific ideas, a sign of OCD    ~Performing certain behaviors over and over again   ~Anxiety surrounding a particular life event or experience that has occurred in the past (indicating the idea of PTSD)
Unfortunately, that’s just the list of symptoms about anxiety *itself*. I shall now explain...
★Panic Attacks★
and these ★panic attacks★ consist of the following symptoms-    ~Palpitations    ~Sweating    ~Shaking or trembling    ~Feeling shortness of breath    ~Sensation of choking    ~Chest pains or tightness    ~Nausea or gastrointestinal problems    ~Dizziness, light-headedness, or feeling faint    ~Feeling hot or cold (chills)    ~Numbness or tingly sensations    ~Feeling detached from oneself and reality (depersonalization and derealization)    ~Fear of “going crazy”    ~Fear of dying
However, the fun thing about panic attacks- people with anxiety have learned to not always outwardly show that they are having a panic attack. Ways to notice if someone is having an inward panic attack; they will most definitely be zoned out and unwilling to come back to reality.
Anxiety disorder is seriously not fun- so if someone you care about or know says that they are anxious, please take it seriously.
★Types Of Anxiety Disorders★  - Agoraphobia (fear of certain places or situations that make them feel powerless)  - Generalized anxiety disorder (constant anxiety and worry about activities or events, even those that are ordinary or routine)  -OCD ( continual experience of unwanted or intrusive thoughts and worries that cause anxiety) -Panic disorder (sudden and repeated bouts of severe anxiety, fear) - PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder)  - Selective mutism (inability of a child to talk in specific places or situations)  - Separation anxiety disorder (normally caused when a parent is removed from the parent)  - Specific phobias

2021 Ehlers Danlos Society Awareness Month (Day 3 Prompt: Symptoms)
Unbeknownst to most people in the community and even many in the medical community as most medical personnel never learned about EDS in school or if they have were only taught the very most basic information about it but Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is a systemic condition and predisposes those with it to over 250 other conditions so it's not unusual for someone with EDS to have 20, 30 or even more other conditions caused by it which are called comorbid conditions or comorbidities.
Tumblr media
EDS is a genetic condition that affects the structure of connective tissue. There are multiple types of connective tissue but there are also multiple types of EDS so one or more types of connective tissue can be impacted. Connective tissue also makes up at least part of every part of the body so when your connective tissue is faulty and prone to damage that also means so is everywhere connective tissue is located including but not limited to the skin, cartilage, the brain, heart, lungs, GI system, liver, kidneys, bladder, Mesentery system which is the stringy organ that is around your abdominal organs that eases then and holds them in place, lymph nodes, lymph ducts, nerves, blood vessels, blood cells, nerves, bones, bone marrow, joints, tendons, ligaments, muscle sheathing, eyes, ears, nails, hair follicles, spinal cord, sweat glands, respiratory system etc. You name it, it contains connective tissue so anything can go wrong with any part of the body leaving many patients diagnosed with conditions such as conversion disorder, meaning that all of your symptoms are in your head and you're fine for years and more often, decades because we usually get diagnosed with a lot of these comorbidities before we finally find that one doctor who can put the pieces together and say, this isn't in your head, you have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and those other conditions are very real because EDS is what caused all of them.
Tumblr media
Now that we have discussed comorbidities I have dealt with countless symptoms over my life. As a kid it started with chronic pain, migraine headaches, and issues resulting from a compromised immune system because I caught everything going around and usually more than once. I don't remember a holiday as a kid where I wasn't sick or hurt. I was extremely clumsy, unable to run correctly until high-school with the very extensive help of my gym teacher. I was always falling, rolling my ankle, and just in general looking awkward with my body movements. I had multiple gym teachers who would agree that there was something physically wrong with me long before I could get any doctors to listen to my mom or as an adult, myself. I had to take special reading and writing classes because even to this day I cannot hold a pencil well or write with control because my fingers are too hypermobile to control a pencil so my writing is often illegible. I had a very severe failure to thrive, also called juvenile dwarfism, not even growing an inch between the ages of 2 and 12. My parents were told when I was 2 years old that I would be 6’4’’because I was so tall as at one and two years old that people would criticize my mom for carrying me out in public thinking I was 4 or 5 years old when I was only a year or two years old. I was 3’2” from the age of 2 to the age of 12 and of course when I was 12 I was extremely short and was bullied for my size as well as my weight which increased due to inflammation from undiagnosed celiac disease. There were multiple incidences with medical personnel and social workers as a kid because I always had such severe bruising all over my body and they believed I was abused. I didn't lose my teeth, losing only one on my own and at the age of 8 my dentist began pulling out my teeth which left me with dental crowding and requiring braces which were removed prematurely. I dealt with Learning disabilities and have been in glasses since age 4. I would pass out all the time as a kid, starting at 8 years old.
Tumblr media
Bullying was a huge issue for me as a kid because I was socially awkward showing signs of OCD as well as being more mature than my peers due to my medical experiences and history with my siblings that forced me to grow up more quickly. That combined with issues such as my clumsiness and height made me the perfect target for bullying. I got what I believe was my first Traumatic Brain Injury when I was 9 years old while hanging upside down on the monkey bars. My bully had another student who had Down Syndrome, climb to the top of the monkey bars and lift my legs so I fell off onto my head.
Tumblr media
My second was in the 6th grade. The same bully would bully other kids to help her bully a bigger target of hers which was me. One day I was at my locker between classes. Our lockers were assigned in alphabetical order by last name, of course my bully's last name came right before mine so her locker was directly to the left of mine. My mom tried to get it changed but the school refused. She shoved me down between classes while I was exchanging my books and the two kids with the locker to the right of mine she had help her roll me onto my stomach on the ground, one sat on my butt and held my feet down, the other sat on my back and held my arms down under her feet. my bully yanked my head up so my forehead was on the floor of my locker and I was trying to get out so she had the girl on my back use one of her hands to hold my head down. My bully then kicked my locker door shut on my head over and over again and I went unconscious. There were two teachers in the hall at the time but they just waked into the classroom when it started. I woke up and the hall was empty. I went to the office and told them I needed them to call my mom, I needed to go home and explained what happened. They called my mom and instead of telling her the truth they told her she needed to pick me up because I was acting strange. She came and got me and found out what happened getting me treatment.
Tumblr media
She then took me to the school a few days later since the doctor didn't want me to return for so long (I apologize I don't remember a lot from the two weeks following this so I'm going off what I was told so the exact time I was out of school, I believe was around two weeks but I'm not sure. Anyhow at the school, we met with the principal and office staff who denied any teachers were in the hall or that any of this happened. My mom demanded to see the recordings on the cameras as a hall came in at a T right behind my locker so that camera faced my locker as well as one at each end of the hall my locker was in. They tried to tell her all three cameras were broken. My mom wasn't buying it so they tried then saying the recordings were gone. they went round and round and the school flat out refused to show her the video. My mom demanded that the girl who did this be punished because she has been asking for the school to help me since I was in the first grade and this girl started bullying me but they always fail to do anything.
Tumblr media
They tried to then give me an in school suspension which my mom refused to let them do. They still went behind her back when I returned and made me take peanut butter sandwiches to the kids in detention during my lunch as punishment because they were mad my mom came in to question the incident. They refused to punish my bully in any way and when my mom demanded to know why, they said her mom and grandmother graduated from the school so she has a lot of history with the school which years later we found out after me and 9 other kids that I know of and who knows how many others, ended up being pulled out of the same school because of her bullying that having history at the school actually turned out to mean, she was black and they would not punish her because of her color. At the end of the school year my mom pulled me out of the school not sure what to do since back then they didn't have any kind of free online schooling so pretty much everything costed money which is when my grandma stepped up and told my mom she would help because there was no way I would be going back to deal with more bullying.
Tumblr media
I had a ton of intestinal issues having to start colonics at around 10 years old and get my first colonoscopy around the same time. As a teen I really went down hill, struggling to eat because I had very severe nausea and cramping pain upon eating which made many of my friends believe I was anorexic but I went years without being diagnosed with gastroparesis. I started having thyroid issues and finally diagnosed with food allergies at age 14, Chest pain, palpitations, arrhythmias and trouble breathing around age 15 and seizures and cardiac arrest events at age 17.
At age 19, right before starting college I lost the ability to walk with no reason why and was sent to physical therapy to learn to walk again. The hospital visits continued in college from the seizures, emergencies from my thyroid levels going sky high or bottoming out, I started having issues with low sugar, rectal bleeding and more GI and Muscular Skeletal issues that again came to the attention of a physical education professor I had in college. The cardiac arrests continued to happen and I got an emergency pacemaker put in at age 23. Also lost the ability to walk a second time and re learned during this time.
Tumblr media
After graduating and starting working I really went down hill. My nerve pain got so bad I could hardly tolerate it and had a lot of issues with muscle spasticity. Passing out and dizzy spells got worse, seizure meds aren't working muscle weakness got again worse in my legs and I started literally wondering if I was dying, I had such severe fatigue that I slept every moment I wasn't working, bleed very badly during my period or with just mild trauma worrying my dentist so badly that he sent a letter to my doctor suggesting a possible bleeding disorder. I was going into shakes from low sugar and low sodium frequently but at the time had no idea why I would start shaking multiple times a day. Myoclonic epilepsy started and has progressively gotten worse, Dystonia started up, I started getting intestinal obstructions more often and more gastroparesis symptoms with the nausea and vomiting, sometimes cyclic vomiting. I developed a limp and went onto forearm crutches which eventually progressed to paralysis.
I have always had issues with dislocations of joints and spinal manifestations like scoliosis, Craniocervical and Atlantoaxial instability. I’m prone to non cancerous masses that could be cancerous one day including masses in my breasts, heals and between the vertebrates in my spine. My memory has deteriorated and I now have issues which I call temporary blindness when I turn my head a certain way which pinches my already compressed brainstem kinking it off so my vision is interrupted. With Systemic Mastocitosis I deal with allergic reaction type symptoms such as anaphylaxis, overproduction of mucus, coughing, hives, swelling, rashes, itching, hot flashes, flushing and more. I overheat and have hyperhidrosis. I have muscle spasms from the paralysis, dry mouth from the meds, in addition to the heart arrhythmias and trouble controlling my body temperature from the damage to my autonomic nervous system failure I have swelling of my abdomen, extreme thirst, bladder retention, abdominal cramping and more.

There are endless symptoms associated with EDS and it’s comorbidities which has a huge impact on your social life. You can't do the things you used to do and may come up with new hobbies and later deal with the grief associated with losing the ability to do those hobbies, in turn having to find new hobbies. You lose all or almost all of your friends because they don't like what you have become, the things you used to be able to do with them and no longer can, they don't understand if you need to cancel plans, when you lose the ability to drive they drop you cold because they don't want to pick you up many of us deal with the realization of how badly we wanted friends growing up due to our social awkwardness that resulted from our illness, time spent in the hospital, maturing more quickly, as well as the result of decades of medical abuse and neglect which in most of us has resulted in complex PTSD.
Almost all EDS patients are either on the Autism Spectrum, diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder which some associate with social awkwardness and also the intense need for us to please people meaning many EDS patients were known as extremely hard and dedicated workers when working or in school as well as very dedicated to friends and families. We basically give our friends the clothes off of our backs meaning that most of us unknowingly befriend people who use us and are in take take take relationships where we give everything we have into a friendship or relationship while the other person gives little back resulting in most of us losing all or almost every friend we had when we get sick and no longer have anything to give. When we are no longer able to do for others those people quickly jump ship leaving us with no friends. Most of us have this very similar personality type due to our history of growing up quickly along with the shared comorbidity of Autism, OCD, and Complex PTSD.
Tumblr media
There are countless symptoms associated with EDS and they are different for each individual. Even in my case alone these are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to symptoms I have experienced alone so EDS isn't an easy condition to live with physically or emotionally and the diagnosis can be quite the pill to swallow with little understanding from friends, sometimes family or even the medical community.

The angles of rotation, called torsion angles, regarding these bonds define the conformation of a polypeptide backbone.
, specifically and they are defined as 180 ° when the polypeptide is in the prolonged planar conformation, as shown in Figure 4.

Story Time: POTS diagnosis
I was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (or POTS, since that’s a mouthful and a half) in August of last year. It was nearing the end of my gap year, which was supposed to be a period of rest and healing, not of gaining new unwelcome symptoms and new diagnoses.
I had as usual set myself an unrealistically (in hindsight) high goal of becoming a completely healthy and abled person by the time I started university, as I simply could not wrap my head around the idea that I would be able to cope otherwise. In other words, it was get better or you will fail and never amount to anything and always be miserable – and yeah, needless to say as the time drew nearer and my body showed no signs of obeying my strict instructions, I entered more and more panic spirals of despair.
At this point I would like to return to the present to let you know that I have just finished my first year and survived my first lot of exams since the endurance test that was A-levels. Not to say that it has been easy – of course university was never going to be a walk in the park – but I have done well and I should be proud of myself.
(I know this because my mother keeps sending me postcards telling me how amazing I am. Bear in mind that she lives twenty minutes away and visits me once a week – often to hand the postcards over herself to save on postage.)
Anyway, unless you have it or know someone who does, you have probably never heard of POTS. It is essentially a problem with my blood pressure and that is what I stick to when I’m asking someone for their seat on the tube. When a normal fully-abled person stands up, their blood pressure increases slightly to account for the increased effect of gravity – mine does not and as a result my heart is forced to pump faster to keep blood going to my brain. My heart rate can increase by up to forty beats per minute just from getting up off the couch.
Symptoms include dizziness, an inability to stand up for long periods of time, nausea, headaches, fainting (though thankfully I have never experienced that one), digestive problems, fatigue (like I didn’t already have enough of that), heart palpitations (just casually in the middle of the night when you haven’t moved for hours) and even shortness of breath. Of all of these, I would have to say that the heart palpitations are the worst. They do not hurt exactly, but they are terrifying – especially before I had my diagnosis – and make it hard to breathe.
It is hard not to panic when your body is doing it’s very best to simulate a panic attack.
I have a friend whom I met online who suspected they had POTS and I’d been aware of it for some time before I started to consider whether I myself might have it too. I’ve read that about a third of those suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome also have POTS so it wasn’t a wholly unlikely scenario. I had also read the NHS page for it and noted that I had many of the symptoms, however, this was not conclusive proof to me as the problem with autoimmune diseases is that the symptoms overlap a lot.
Then I started a course of birth control pills and my CFS specialist, Dr S, wanted me to take measurements of my blood pressure to check that it wasn’t causing any problems. As it turns out I have fairly low blood pressure, so there’s no risk of getting a stroke from my daily dose of oestrogen. More importantly, I noticed how my heart rate would increase far beyond normal levels if I took a reading whilst sitting down and then another after standing up. This was the proof I needed to self-diagnose.
From there on out it was a case of proving the matter, so we brought it up with Dr S and she referred us to a cardiologist.
There was a bit of a kerfuffle when we arrived at his clinic, as it turned out to be a children’s hospital, which as a nineteen year old I was theoretically not supposed to be treated at. On the bright side, there were a lot of cartoon fish on the walls. Whoever decided that adults don’t need cute animal drawings in hospitals fundamentally misunderstands what it’s like to be in a hospital.
Eventually we managed to sort the whole situation out and I was taken downstairs to have an electrocardiogram. This was to test the electrical activity of my heart – don’t ask me how that works or what exactly the point was because the science went over my head. All I can say is that it didn’t hurt and there was something oddly exciting about being hooked up to a bunch of wires. But that might just be me and all the superhero media I consume.
Then I went to meet the cardiologist, Dr D, and give him a history of my symptoms.
It had not even crossed my mind up until that point that there might be something “seriously” wrong with me, by which I mean something life threatening, so needless to say it rather came as a shock when the cardiologist did an ultrasound of my heart to check that it didn’t have any holes (and I quote). In retrospect it might have been a joke, but it certainly didn’t land well with me.
The fact that I had a cold and unpleasantly slimy machine on my chest and was lying there with only a fairly ratty, old bra to protect my modesty did not help. This again was something that had not occurred to me and I was deeply grateful for the presence of my mother in the room so that she could fill the awkward silence with small talk and I could focus on breathing normally. It is extremely strange to hear your own heartbeat sounding like a foetus’s on TV and be painfully aware of the fact that anyone around will literally be able to hear your nerves.
Ultrasound over with, chest wiped down and clothes thankfully put back on we sat down to discuss what was next. Dr D was fairly confident from my description that I did have POTS but obviously I had to go through the whole process before it could be official. In the meantime he gave us some advice about dealing with the symptoms:
1.       Drink lots of water. Aim for three litres a day.
2.       Eat lots of salt. Aim for ten milligrams a day.
3.       Stand and sit up slowly and jiggle your legs to get the blood moving.
4.       Exercise.
This I interpreted as a prescription for Pringles and an excuse to hold in the face of people who tell me to stop fidgeting. My mind happily slid over the recommendation of exercise as a “Problem for later me” A.K.A something I hoped I’d be able to put off indefinitely.
Building up muscle, fitness and stamina are all worthy things and have helped now that I’ve achieved them, but in conjunction with my CFS they have often seemed impossible goals. Also, I like sitting down.
I shall now elaborate on the third recommendation, which I follow every morning, doing a funny little dance about my room to bring my limbs to life. I pity the person who lives below me in my student accommodation… at least I am rarely up before eleven. The hilarious point about this was that Dr D took it upon himself to give us a rather long and overly serious demonstration, standing up from behind his desk and jiggling about on the spot with a completely straight face.
Both my mother and I were struggling to maintain the same level of facial control.
It was a couple of weeks before we could return to London to embark on the next step of diagnosis: getting a blood pressure monitor fitted that must then stay attached for a whole twenty hours, taking measurements on the hour every hour. This was something of a trial as I had to walk around with a bunch of thick tubing wrapped round my neck and with the machine strapped round my bicep.
I garnered a lot of stares as people must have assumed I had something serious going on. The fact that it beeped loudly and inflated with a sound like an airbed being pumped up at every measurement, did not make it inconspicuous to say the least. It also meant that I barely slept through the combination of loud noises and the clamp tightening on my arm.
I was thoroughly exhausted the next day when we went to drop it off and then continue on to a hospital in order to do the tilt test. This involves being strapped to a table which is then tilted upright from the horizontal and then being stuck there for the next twenty minutes (feels like three hours) whilst measurements of your blood pressure and heart rate are taken. I already felt ghastly but by the end of this I was ready to curl up in a ball on the floor and stay there for the rest of my life.
The doctor administering the test ran through the results with us, confirming that I had POTS – though technically we still had to wait for Dr D to give the all clear as it were – and then confidently asserting that I didn’t have CFS and certainly didn’t have any mental health problems and should stop taking my antidepressant straight away since it was all because of POTS and once I started doing some exercise I’d be fine.
Right…. Thanks Karen.
One more appointment later I had my official diagnosis. Alas, having trekked halfway across London to make this appointment, it only lasted ten minutes and mostly consisted of me being told to come back in six months when I had tried some exercise and then we’d see about medication.
We have postponed this reunion indefinitely as I have seen little change for the better – though in truth I have not gotten started on the rigorous exercise plan he had in mind – but nor is it sufficiently bad that I am in desperate need of medication.
I have found that the most useful tool in combatting my symptoms are compression garments as they help with my circulation. I have some tights, a knee support, gloves and several random bits of tubing that can be used anywhere. They reduce pain and allow me to stand up for longer.

Poisonous plants 2 - Aconitum (monkshood)
Because I made an AU version of it, I now just want to talk about it in general.
Possibly my favorite flower that isn’t a queen of night tulip, would be Aconitum, which I’ll be referring to by one of its common names, Monkshood. There are over 250 known species of them, and they are found all across the northern hemisphere.
Family: Ranunculaceae (buttercup family) Genus: Aconitum
The flowers have an unusual helmet or hood shape to them which is why they’re called Monkshood, Devil’s Helmet, and Blue Rocket. Due to how toxic the plant is other names such as Wolfsbane, Women’s Bane, Queen of Poisons, etc. have also been given.  Like, seriously, look at these flowers! They’re so cool looking! That’s also the most common color for them, but white, pink, purple, and yellow are sometimes seen.
Tumblr media
((Image from wikipedia))
Plants can grow 2 - 6ft tall depending on the species. They prefer moist but not damp mountainous terrain. However, every part of the plant is toxic. The toxins are so potent that they can be absorbed through the skin, so it is so important to wear gloves when working with them.
While they are used to some degree in herbal medicine, it’s most common use over the years has been for poisoning. In more modern medicine, there has been little progress creating safe medications from it as opposed to some of the  ones from the Solanaceae (Nightshades) family.
The main toxin is Aconitine which is a very potent poison. The exact amount for death is unclear due to its potency, and it is considered to be a narrow therapeutic index compound. That means that the dose between helpful and harmful is so little that it’s difficult to safely measure.
The poison’s effects are on the sodium-ion channels of cells of excitable tissues such as the heart, muscles, and nerves. This leaves the cells more open to stimulation and starts dumping the signaling molecule acetylcholine into the surrounding areas. In low doses, this can cause increased excitability of those tissues, but at higher concentrations, it can overwhelm and paralyze them.
The effects on the heart are the most concerning - so low blood pressure, chest pain, palpitations, abnormal heart rhythms - both too fast and too slow have been reported, but it can cause ventricular fibrillation which is when the heart beats irregularly and prevents proper oxygenation of the blood.
Some neurological effects can be numbness of the face, chest and limbs. Chills, pins and needles, burning and other unusual sensations of the skin. Weakness of the muscles. Nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, and vomiting have also been reported.
Treatment is supportive and based on symptoms. The biggest concern is the heart related effects which is what usually leads to death. Atropine, a very potent anticholinergic, is sometimes given as a rescue medication if cardiac symptoms are seen, but it is not an antidote.

Sure Signs You Have Long COVID, Reports WHO
As coronavirus cases recede in America, more than 10% of those who caught the virus may feel symptoms for years and years, possibly forever. They have Long COVID and yesterday, the World Health Organization (WHO), held a seminar to sound the alarm about it. “Long COVID should not fall through the cracks,” said WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “Long COVID could become the pandemic on the pandemic,” warned doctor Gail Carson, from the International Severe Acute Respiratory and Emerging Infection Consortium. “People are losing jobs, they're losing relationships. There's a real urgency to try and understand this,” she said. Read on to see if you have some of the most common symptoms of Long COVID, ranked from less common to most common—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Sure Signs You've Already Had Coronavirus.

You Might Vomit
Tumblr media
You might throw up, especially after exerting yourself. “It's the weirdest thing I've ever experienced,” Helen Calder, from Liverpool, told the BBC, which reports: “Nearly four months after she and her family caught the virus, and after needing hospital treatment twice, she still experiences a relapse roughly every two weeks where she is hit by debilitating fatigue, nausea, headaches, and limb pain. Her doctors have diagnosed post-viral fatigue and she says any small over-exertion while she is feeling well can set her back for days at a time.”

You Might Experience Confusion
Tumblr media
Although low on the WHO's list of symptoms, confusion, or “brain fog,” is quite frequent among Long Haulers. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the President and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, calls it an “inability to concentrate” and it can result in forgetfulness and anxiety, as well.

You Might Have Abdominal Pain
Tumblr media
Long COVID-caused abdominal pain may be hard for doctors to diagnose. “I have had a rotating constellation of symptoms, different each day and worse each evening: fever, headache, dizziness, palpitations, tachycardia, and others,” writes Jeffrey N. Siegelman, MD, a long hauler himself, in a piece on JAMA. “As a result, I have been reminded of the need to listen to the patient first, even in the absence of conclusive testing. The next time I care for someone with vague abdominal pain, or fatigue, or paresthesia, or any of the myriad conditions that are uncomfortable on the inside but look fine on the outside, I will remember that these symptoms are real and impactful for patients.”

You May Have Chest Pain
Tumblr media
Your Long COVID chest pain may be tissue inflammation—or it may be a heart issue. “Covid-19 is not only a lung illness: it can cause other life-changing complications. In particular, because it can increase the risk of blood clots, it can lead to deep vein thrombosis, heart attacks and stroke,” reports BHF. “Less commonly, it can cause heart muscle inflammation and heart rhythm disturbances, such as atrial fibrillation. (This isn't specific to coronavirus—for example, damage to the heart is also known to happen in severe flu).”

You May Have a Sore Throat
Tumblr media
In one study, says McKnight's: “Almost 17% of patients who were considered fully recovered tested positive for the virus in follow-up screenings. And patients who were most likely to have a new positive test result were those with sore throat and rhinitis (chronic sneezing or a congested, drippy nose), reported lead author Francesco Landi, M.D., Ph.D.”
  12
You May Have Nausea
Tumblr media
“It is now clear that not only the lungs, the gastrointestinal tract could also be attacked by SARS-CoV-2,” says one study in the Journal of Microbiology, Immunology and Infection. “Its host receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), which acts as a gateway to infection, has been found to be highly expressed in the gastrointestinal epithelium and may lead to the development of nausea/vomiting.”
  11
You May Have Dyspnea
Tumblr media
“Few sensations are as frightening as not being able to get enough air. Shortness of breath — known medically as dyspnea — is often described as an intense tightening in the chest, air hunger, difficulty breathing, breathlessness or a feeling of suffocation,” reports the Mayo Clinic.

  10
You May Have Congestion
Tumblr media
Says the Mayo Clinic: “Nasal congestion or ‘stuffy nose' occurs when nasal and adjacent tissues and blood vessels become swollen with excess fluid, causing a ‘stuffy' plugged feeling. Nasal congestion may or may not include a nasal discharge or ‘runny nose.'”
  9
You May Have Diarrhea
Tumblr media
“In the early days of the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak, clinicians focused on respiratory symptoms and transmission, but Chinese researchers soon identified the GI/fecal/oral route as another avenue of spread for this imperialistic virus,” reports MedPage Today. Long Haulers may experience diarrhea as a result.
  8
You May Have a Loss of Smell or Loss of Taste
Tumblr media
“Obviously, the early symptoms of COVID-19 disease are very similar to a flu-like syndrome,” Fauci told The Washington Post. However: “Many people now have this curious loss of smell and taste.” This sensation can last for long after you've shed the virus.
  7
You May Have Chills
Tumblr media
“When chills are accompanied by other symptoms, such as fever, body aches or fatigue, they're more likely associated with a systemic infection,” says Keck Medicine. “Chills boost your body's core temperature when your immune system attempts to fight off infection,” says Rose Taroyan, MD, MPH, a family medicine physician at Keck Medicine of USC and clinical assistant professor of family medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
  6
Fever
Tumblr media
Temperature fluctuations are not uncommon for long haulers. “My symptoms have gotten worse and are typical of what is being reported for COVID-19 ‘long-haulers' — recurring fever, debilitating fatigue, inability to concentrate, headache, dizziness, body aches and more,” reports one first responder to the Washington Post.

  5
You May Have Body Aches
Tumblr media
Fauci calls this “myalgia” and you may have pain in all sorts of places. “Multiorgan symptoms after COVID-19 are being reported by increasing numbers of patients. They range from cough and shortness of breath, to fatigue, headache, palpitations, chest pain, joint pain, physical limitations, depression, and insomnia, and affect people of varying ages,” says a report in the Lancet.
  4
You May Have a Headache
Tumblr media
“In some patients, the severe headache of COVID-19 only lasts a few days, while in others, it can last up to months. It is presenting mostly as a whole-head, severe-pressure pain. It's different than migraine, which by definition is unilateral throbbing with sensitivity to light or sound, or nausea,” reports Novant Health.
  3
You May Cough
Tumblr media
“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a report in July that showed that 35 percent of 292 non-hospitalized COVID-19 patients continued to experience symptoms—such as cough, fatigue and shortness of breath—up to three weeks after diagnosis, whereas 90 percent of influenza patients fully recover and regain functionality within two weeks of a positive test result,” says the Texas Medical Center.

You Are Most Likely to Have Fatigue
Tumblr media
Fatigue is the most common symptom of Long COVID, according to most researchers and patients. This most resembles, according to Fauci, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or myalgic encephalomyelitis, which the CDC says is: “a serious, long-term illness that affects many body systems. People with ME/CFS are often not able to do their usual activities. At times, ME/CFS may confine them to bed. People with ME/CFS have severe fatigue and sleep problems.”

Long Haulers Most Often Experience More Than One of These Symptoms
Tumblr media
If you just have a runny nose, it's unlikely you're a long hauler. But if you have a runny nose, headaches that just won't quit, bone-crushing fatigue and some weird pains, it's possible—especially if you feel or know you had COVID-19 at some point. Call a medical professional to get checked—and to protect your life and the lives of others, don't visit any of these 35 Places You're Most Likely to Catch COVID.
