bonus sad thought i had in the middle of this: gisil thinks the best part of learning how to read and write was that he got to share what he learned with his dad. at the end of the day after all his lessons, he will return to otmar and since he knows that his father didn’t grow up learning how to read, this kid will just sit there and read whole passages from whatever he can get his hands on to his father.
