#i can't believe i actually binged 3 seasons of this show in one week
Text
The absurdity and stupidity of all shitflix cancelations lies in one simple question: How many of those canceled shows have you actually heard of before they got canceled?
- Warrior Nun - never heard of it until the moment I started seeing its fans spamming every shitflix post. And that was its second season. It had two seasons, for fucks sake, and most of us have never heard of it. You wanna know whose fault that is? Let me give you a hint. No, it's not the viewing numbers.
- First Kill (or whatever its name is) - Never heard of it until, once again, I saw people complaining about the cancelation under shitflix posts. Once again, guess whose fault that is.
- Santa Clarita Diet - Never heard of it. Didn't even know it was canceled until it made it to the list of pissed of people counting how many of them they axed. Whose fault is that?
- Inside Job - Yeah, never heard of it until it got canceled. Also, canceled after they renewed it. Shitflix: guess we changed our minds.
- Archive 81 - Heard of it when the cancelation was announced.
- The OA - Remember just hearing about it through the fog, even though it came out years ago.
- Sense 8 - know about it only thanks to fans' videos and fanart. I don't remember shitflix ever mentioning it.
- Lockwood & Co - I know about it thanks to fans spamming posts asking for renewal news.
And the list goes on with, I assume, shows I have never heard of.
I've never seen any of these shows, but my open wound is 1899 that I believe got treated the dirtiest of them all.
I have heard of it two years before the premiere, thanks to a 50 seconds long teaser that got me patiently waiting for years because it was my cup of tea. It came from the people who proved themselves before by creating a critically acclaimed show that you can find on a top 10 list of greatest shows of all time. Those people have spent years developing a new filming technique for shitflix. What a way to say thank you.
8 out of 10 people around me have seen 1899. Those people haven't even seen GoT or LotR for fucks sake, the most famous show and movie ever, but they have seen 1899. But not because shitflix promoted it, but because people did.
There was zero promotion, zero cast interviews, zero mentions after the release. It was still watched and talked about by so many people. It has more viewing hours than their hit shows running for 3+ seasons put together. It's a show you can't just binge and forget, you have to actually turn your fucking brain on. It was released in the most busy time of the year, during the damn World Cup and winter holidays. It was still number one for weeks. It was given less than 30 days. They decided to cancel it before it even premiered. They deleted the trailer with 10+ million views from YT.
The same goes with other shows. I have seen zero cast interviews, zero promotion or mentions by their own platform and they still have loyal fan bases that didn't stop talking about them.
But then you have dogshit shows like the Night agent that is getting hyped by shtflix every single fucking day. Fake numbers, pumped up to get people to watch a generic, a hundred times seen before, piece of crap. It got more hype than fucking GoT, and yet I know zero people who have actually watched it. Yep, there is no one I know, in real life or online, that has actually watched this show. So you figure it out.
People who have watched the shows I've mentioned probably have the statistics for them, and have probably seen the viewing hours being blamed for it, which was bullshit.
The latest nail in the coffin was Lockwood & Co. They kept fans waiting for months, and then they announced the cancelation during Eurovision so that fans wouldn't be able to go viral about it because everyone talked about fucking Eurovision.
Shitflix has canceled 26 sci-fi/fantasy shows in the last 3 years. 26! Do you all remember when we couldn't even name 26 shows of all genres put together, let alone watch them?
What all these shows had in common is that they were original and more or less unique and creative, not something you can find at least 6 copies of in either streaming or network TV.
It's like they created all these shows just so they can cancel them, because they are doing their best to actually burn every trace they ever existed.
Shitflix is killing creativity in every form, but in the end, that will be their undoing.

Your elementary posts are inspiring me to rewatch elementary! Which is good bc i love elementary and bad bc i have so much programming homework to be doing.
Anyway, so on the topic of sherlock holmes:
Which screen (movie and tv) adaptation of sherlock holmes have you seen, and which ones do you think are best (true to original holmes) and best (most personally enjoyable to you)?
(I love your meta on fandom stuff in general - no pressure to answer tho! I just feel like you’d give an interesting reply on this)
Elementary is so good, I'm glad I inspired you to rewatch (but also, good luck with your homework lmao)
Now, to answer your question
It's worth noting that I... Did not read the original stories. Or well, I tried, but I didn't vibe with them originally (I tried to read them in high school after receiving a complete copy for my birthday from my sister), didn't get around to giving them a second chance, and eventually just exchanged my copy for some of my friend's books. So I can't really speak to how accurate any of these are to the originals, but I'll guess anyway lmao
So! Adaptations of Sherlock Holmes I've seen, in no particular order
Sherlock (BBC, 2010-2017) - first two seasons and an episode and a half of season 3
My experience of Sherlock BBC was heavily colored by superwholock and the reichenbach pause, which were the reason I watched the show in the first place, as I had not heard of the show previously. 2012-2013 Tumblr was truly another time. I believe around the same time I also binge watched the first two seasons of Game of Thrones, and I had very similar experiences with both of them: investment because they were pop culture phenomenon, and uncritical and quick consumption that left no room for my own feelings to develop. And in both cases when the third season premiered I discovered, much to my surprise, that I didn't actually like the show. I in fact had extremely pointed criticisms of the show, didn't enjoy the characters, and found the viewing experience to be tedious hard work. So... I do not like Sherlock (BBC), and never really did, although I continued to participate in superwholock as a fandom until its decline. The release of Sherlock is Garbage and Here's Why (dir. Hbomberguy, 2017) was an incredibly satisfactory experience, as it experienced my criticisms extremely well, and put to words my feelings that I hadn't even managed to turn into criticisms, plus pointing out flaws I hadn't even noticed. SiGaHW is one of my favorite films, a twice-yearly watch. Highly recommended. That said, Sherlock itself sucks and is both a bad show and has uncompelling "mysteries". Bad as an adaptation of the original stories and bad as in just bad. Bad.
Elementary (CBS, 2012-2019) - all seven seasons
I enjoy Elementary a great deal. I think it's sort of a model modern procedural, with the cases of the week nearly always being compelling to watch and the emphasis on the developing character dynamics being one of my favorite aspects. There are seasons I enjoy more or less but that's nearly always because of the ongoing subplots (Morland and Moriarty were significantly more compelling than Shinwell, for example) than the actual cases of the week, which again, are pretty much always extremely solid. I've rewatched this show several times, and I think it's extremely enjoyable. It's not perfect, but it gets points for, for example, having Mrs. Hudson be a trans woman all the way back in the early 2010s, and having an autistic woman as a love interest who felt like a genuine well rounded woman. It's also occasionally a little critical of the police in a way that stands out for a crime procedural, which is cool, but only a little. All in all, I like the show a lot, although it's not my favorite on this list. That said, the crime procedural is pretty much the most natural way to adapt the spirit of the original Holmes stories into modern day media, and it uses pretty much every notable character from the stories eventually including some of the mysteries (I really like the hounds storyline adaptation in particular!), so I think this wins best adaptation.
Sherlock Holmes (dir. Guy Ritchie, 2009) - just the first one
I'll be real with you I don't remember anything about this movie except that I watched it and had a fine time.
House (Fox, 2004-2012) - all eight seasons
Y'all know I'm currently in House brainrot, so obviously this ends up on the list. Excellent television, especially for people like me who live for a good procedural and were looking for something that wasn't a cop show. House is Holmes, Wilson is Watson, and the occasional Sherlock Holmes canon reference shows up, such as the guy who shot House being named Moriarty in the credits, or Wilson bullshitting the second gen ducklings about a woman named Irene Adler who was The Woman for House. It's a very good show - although not currently my favorite on the list - and any mystery of the week format is going to be at least a little inspired by the o.g., but it doesn't win over Elementary, which has actual murder and crime mysteries.
The Irregulars (Netflix, 2021) - like two episodes
Based on the concept of Sherlock's canon irregulars but it's a fantasy show! I heard great things but did not end up clicking with it. Obviously by virtue of it being a supernatural show it's not very based on the original, but at least there's mysteries that must be solved?
Sanctuary (Syfy, 2008-2011)
This show is the kind of thing I'd watch when it was on, back in the days where I would watch my parents' satellite television instead of downloading whole seasons of shows on my laptop (as I didn't have a laptop yet lmao). I remember it having dense plots, and vaguely remembered that one of the characters was Sherlock Holmes, and I googled it - it's actually Watson. But hey, that counts, so I included it. I remember enjoying the show but I could not tell you if it was actually good because my taste in 2010 was a bit of a mixed bag on account of me being 12. Anyway I would say it's probably a terrible adaptation and they most likely didn't even try considering the kind of show it was, and I wouldn't call it my favorite.
Psych (USA, 2006-2014; movies 2017, 2020, 2021) - eight seasons, 3 movies
Finally we reach my favorite of these shows. Is it the best one? Idk that's probably a competition between Elementary and House, really, because Psych gets quite silly in the later seasons. But I really do love this show and these characters so much. Like House, it is only a little inspired, but even more loosely so, with really only the idea of a guy who's really smart and eccentric and his best friend who seems normal but really is a bit of a freak (in Gus' case, actually way weirder than Shawn) sticking around. Shawn has eidetic memory and is wicked smart, and actually makes for some really good ADHD rep in my opinion. The comedy usually lands and the romance plot is one of my favorite slow burns and the serial killer episodes are high quality as shit and I love that there's a pineapple hidden in every single episode and I just. I love this show I love it so much
Anyway these are all the adaptations I've seen that I could think of. It's possible I missed something but only the kind of thing that doesn't say Holmes on it; I haven't seen Enola Homes, for example.
Thank you so much for asking I really appreciated this thought exercise of trying to remember every single bullshit TV show I've ever seen because, um, I've seen a lot of TV if I'm going to be honest.
Sorry for taking two weeks this was surprisingly hard and I have. A job

First impressions after watching season 3
So after being super patient all day yesterday, I finally managed to get back home and binge watch season 3 last night \o/ I'm just gonna put a few of my first thoughts here for now, I'm gonna need to rewatch everything to have more detailed and coherent thoughts 😁 But first of all, I wanna thanks Amber 💜 (@amailboxlemur) for being the best spectator and companion to my live reactions 😂 It was super duper nice to be able to share these with you while I was watching and going through all the emotions 😱 So I liked the season!! It was a lot a lot but I really enjoyed it!! It made me cry, it made me laugh, it made me blush... All the rainbow emotions 💜
Tumblr media
Here is my reaction at the end of episode 5, and I think it sums up pretty well my feeling at that moment :p
So a few randoms comments (I will write more about each episode after rewatching them, which I intend to start doing tonight because I neeeeeed to watch it all again):
[It's not spoiler-free so don't read if you haven't watched the season yet!!]
⁂ Simon was incredibly sad this season and it broke my heart. Seeing him cry just made me cry. He was so lost and broken, I really can't wait for the last episode to see him get better (yes I'm an eternally optimist person so I believe he will be happier!!)
⁂ I wasn't expecting the Micke/Sara storyline but I think I liked it! It gave us a new perspective into the Eriksson family dynamic and I felt so so bad for Sara at the end
⁂ I loved to see Simon being truly angry at his sister!! Baby boy is so used to being nice and forgiving, so it was really refreshing to see him actually be mad and stand his ground about it!!
⁂ Wilhelm Wilhelm Wilhelm. My poor boy is a mess! He was so hopeful at the beginning, thinking he could finally have it all, but yeah it was obviously not gonna be smooth sailing. He's such a messy, broken, angry teenager this season and my heart cries for him. He ends up hurting Simon quite a lot but I cannot be truly mad at him. He's a broken boy trying his best :(
⁂ Which leads me to his family: arghhhhhh. So I was hoping that we would get some more info to understand Kristina at least a little bit, but she's just truly awful this season. And the Duke is not better. I hate them for how they behave with Wilhelm. And on a more personal note: I always saw my own mother in Kristina, but this season it's even more flagrant, and gosh does it make me mad for Wilhelm. His lashing out at them at the end of episode 5 was as painful as it was good to see. I've been in his situation. I've yelled like him too many times to count. So I hurt for him. He deserves so much better. Nobody should have these kind of people as parents :(
⁂ The Erik stuff made me so sad!!
⁂ The whole school situation was a bit frustrating at time but it was interesting to see the characters reacting to it all. Felice is a queen and deserves so much better than her "friends". And Vincent can rot in hell 😠
⁂ They're all incredible actors!! And the show is beautiful as usual. I am slightly disappointed with the music (no song captured me as well as the ones in season 1 and 2, but maybe I just need to watch the episodes a few times for that to happen ^^)
⁂ All the cute scenes between Wilhelm and Simon were just the best. Seeing them be silly boyfriends was the best. And yeah, the chemistry is still chemistrying hard between Edvin and Omar :p
I'm gonna stop my list of first reactions there, but I'll continue in more details episode by episode! Overall I think I like this season, though the ending killed me and the week to come is gonna be the longest week ever ^^' I am not really worried about the last episode. I trust the show. I do believe Wilmon will be endgame. And I think not everything will be wrapped up neatly but I do think the ending will be satisfying. So can't wait \o/

1x02, rewatch. Part1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
their love for each other. <3 they're such a nice match.
Tumblr media
You're a douche, but I love you anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can you believe they're in love now?
Tumblr media
Tbh, I'm surprised about how easygoing and calm Roy is in 1x01 and here. He's more emotional somehow in s3? With more emotions bottled up?
Tumblr media
I'm sorry, he has a yellow iphone in s1? Ok then.
Tumblr media
Jamie just can't sit straight from DAY ONE. Also, Sam is playing Nintendo. Niiice.
Tumblr media
Just yesterday I wrote a post about Jamie being brave for finding his true inner voice and trying to communicate with people. What I find precious is that, aside being mean to Sam and occasionally to his fellow players in s1, Jamie is trying to communicate with Ted anyway, since ep1. Ted asks a question if the snacks are tasty enough, and Roy goes, "Jesus Christ." Jamie, however, walks up to Ted and easily answers. Ted nods to him in gratitude, like, "Thank you. It's noted and will be fixed."
In 1x01, Jamie is ready to go as Keeley walks in, "Sorry, Coach, she ordered me waxing. [...] Unless you want me to stay?" and he ACTUALLY waits for Ted to answer him. It's a show's base for Ted to be awkward and tell Jamie, like, "No, you can go", but if he said that, "Actually, I need you to stay for a moment", I'm sure Jamie would stay. When Jamie is on his way out, he nods to Ted and bumps fists with him in a high five manner.
Like, it's nice gestures. Jamie is actually a nice kid underneath all that abuse and trying to act up to cover for the consequences of that abuse. I'm not saying being mean is justified if you were abused, but I do understand where it's coming from with Jamie. I love this kid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jamie's caaar. Keeley will occasionally be Jamie's driver, but she still gets to use that car whenever and however she likes. I'm glad that Jamie's salary allows him to treat people he loves like THAT. Himself, too, obviously.
I forgot how mean Rebecca is in s1, wow. It's like she's a completely different woman compared to s3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rebecca & Keeley. <3 Keeley is such a sweetheart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can someone explain why the hell did I suddenly fall into some het/bi ship so hard. Like, I always liked Jamie during first two seasons, I just screamed about it on twt instead of tumblr. But jfc, the moment s3 started airing, it's like I turned into a different person (or maybe I finally allowed myself to enjoy this ships in this universe). Maybe it's also bc I binged the first 2 seasons on my own and didn't participate in the fandom. Then there was such a big gap between s2 and s3, and now I'm watching s3 every week and marinade in it, so it's kind of dragging me into this void.
Like, I ship them. Absolutely unironically. S3 Jamie and Keeley kissing when? When you have your ships/ot3 and you'll go down with them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, he participates. He communicates. Roy wouldn't even get involved (many from the team wouldn't tbh), but Jamie? Sorry, but he's a sweetheart as well & I love him with all my heart.
Tumblr media
Jamie winking at Keeley, then gently slaps her ass. It's ridiculous that I like this ship this much, really. S3 is gonna murder me and drag my corpse around by the end of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pub dates. <3 They're so wholesome.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your husband best friend holding your coffee while you play with a teen in a park. <3 They're really cute.

The way that Max is acting this season is extremely out of character. He would hate Helen nor would he bail on speaking to her one last time. Not after falling in love with Helen. It just didn’t make sense. To be honest, I have no beef with Wyler and Max getting together. My issue is that Sharpwin took 3 seasons to finally get together. The writers showed us that there was chemistry. They didn’t just tell us. Max was never apprehensive about getting together with Helen. Max’s new relationship with Wyler is strange. Their first kiss seemed forced.
I would have nothing to say about that ship if it was developed properly and Max didn’t have so much animosity towards Helen. I had to stop watching the show after episode two aired because of that animosity issue. On Tuesday, I binged watched eight episodes before episode 11 aired. I wish I hadn’t. I’m so happy that the series is taking a two week break before airing the final two episodes. And the ratings are down and a new negative sector of the fan base has flooded the hashtag on Twitter. Their tweets are filled with micro aggressions and shade towards Helen. It’s a mess!
I literally haven't watched a single episode since last year's finale. I KNEW they were going to shit the bed. I knew that they weren't even going to attempt to handle anything maturely anymore. Not after the way Iggy was written, not after the way Lauren was written, and they lost me on Floyd a LONG time ago. Helen was the final straw. I could stomach that this show was about Max. It was supposed to be based on a real man's journey as director of the hospital and it cast STELLAR stars. The addition of Wilder was honestly one of my favorites and I'm actually sad that she showed up so close to the end of the show because I wanted more of her. He did have apprehension about being with Helen because his feelings for her started before his wife even died. His grief and guilt kept them apart longer than it needed to. His anger and heartbreak should be doing the same right now. To be completely honest I saw chemistry between Wilder and Max and you're right it could've been believable if it had been developed. The real question we need to be asking is why they felt the need to rush and pair them up at all?
Black women and black mixed race women show up and are ready to give great performances, often stealing the show and pulling the story line in ways that aren't predicted by the creators. Sure, they cast them, they had screen tests and they knew they were right for the part but they consistently and CONSTANTLY misjudge how many watched the show for those women characters and how many fans literally tap out in frustration when their roles get reduced or when they are sidelined. If I read one more press release that says;
"Thank you so much for your support but I think I've taken this character as far as they could go, thank you all who supported BLANK and their stories and thank you so much for the opportunity and chance to play this amazing character."
Which translates to,
"Every week I am handed a script where I'm confused as to where or what my character should be doing because it is either the EXACT same thing that happened last week and it seemed as though they would be moving on or addressing it or, I've noticed I have almost no lines, I'm barely invited on press junkets anymore on top of the fact that no one can or is willing to do my hair and make-up and I've noticed a disturbing uptick of rabid fans who hate me for something every other character on the show has done. But I can't burn any bridges or tell the truth about it because it's still Hollywood and Black women BARELY get work as it is."
They didn't plan on their chemistry, and if they didn't want it to be that way they could have asked their directors to DIRECT Ryan and Freema to behave more platonically. They are actors and they capable because they are both GOOD at their jobs.
I know that fans who turned into stans in recent years have gotten downright ugly towards creators who didn't write what they wanted but sometimes it was just literal garbage. There's also a certain segment of the fan population who you HAVE to pay homage to if you have an interracial ship with a white male lead and you're seeing them lob microaggressions and pretty soon it'll be flat out racist attacks because for the UPTEENTH time showrunners chose to make the black woman a dart board. And BTW they have always been there, the amount of people especially in the comment section of TVLine had their fingers crossed Helen would die in the season one finale. Sharpwin fans have just been louder and bigger for so long it was easy to drown them out.
This answer is getting long because I could go ON and ON about this particular subject and how so many shows reinforce and have this trope to placate certain fans. I should call it White Woman First Trope. EVERY show goes to hell because of it.

January 2023 Media Thoughts
1) The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein - January 1st What a harrowing read, especially the first half. Everything here is stuff I vaguely knew and believed in, but this book lays it out so concretely and comprehensively. Genuinely hard to get through at moments, but would absolutely recommend. Does a good job of making you want to do something and not just be passively angry at the state of things.
2) The Crown (Season 1) - January 3rd Enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. Claire Foy is absolutely incredible in literally every scene she's in. It's also really weird to see because the Queen has been a figure for the entirety of my life and yet I know almost nothing about her at all.
3) Chainsaw Man - January 11th I haven't binged a show overnight like this since I was in high school. Absolutely addictive. One of those shows where you're just so disappointed when it's over because you just need more. Just a cast full of little freaks. 10/10.
Rewatch - Rocky Horror Picture Show - January 21st This movie is always a good time, especially introducing it to new people. Every single scene is stellar, especially I'm Going Home and the whole finale. At the rate I'm seeing this movie, it'll no doubt become my most watched movie. Highly recommend, seeing with a group, especially a proper theatre showing.
I broke a heel on the walk back though so it's actually the worst film ever made.
4) Breaking Bad (Season 4) - January 27th I watched the first three seasons like a year ago and got burnt out on it. Glad I'm finally coming back to the show because this season was really good once it figured out what it was doing exactly in the latter half. Jesse continues to be one of the best parts of the show, and I still can't believe they were going to kill him off in season 1
Plans for February
Greek Religion by Walter Burkett - Greek cults and especially Dionysus have long been an interest and this is supposed to be the classic when it comes to the subject so I figured I should finally have a go at it.
The Witch from Mercury - Was watching this week to week for a while and really enjoying it, but fell behind. Should finish it now that the season is wrapped up.
Persona 3 Portable - Probably won't finish it this month, but definitely need to play. FES is one of my all time favourites, so I'm excited for the FeMC route.
Chainsaw Man - The show was so good and I'm too impatient to wait for another season.

Blindspot Mid-season 3 Thoughts
There’s been a lot said about mid-season 3, but as a latecomer, this is my first real chance to dig in, so instead of doing it in dribs and drabs for individual episodes I figured I'd just do one beast of a post covering the whole thing.
I sometimes find it hard not to feel in the minority about this season because… I have no beef. I’m not mad at any characters, I'm not mad at the writers, I'm not particularly disappointed about anything. If I think about all 100 episodes of the series as a whole there are honestly only 2 things I think I would really wanna change and neither of them are here. I like season 3 - all of it, really. To be honest, when I was a new fan quietly lurking in fanfic land, I was surprised to discover that there had been much controversy. It had honestly never occurred to me to do anything but shake my head at the characters or to feel anything other than sad for them at this point. And it feels like a really weird point in the series to be a fence-sitter. I mean, do I love what these characters are doing? No, but I think that’s kind of the point. And sure, I can gripe with the best of them, roll my eyes, scoff and give a dark laugh at how stupid they're being. But I don’t have any big feelings or frustrations about any of it.
Part of that, I'm sure, is that the only character whose dumb choices I feel I can say with any confidence that I wouldn't repeat if I was in the same messed up circumstances, is Reade. The fact that he even asked anyone for an opinion about polygraphing the girl that has demonstrably conspired with gangsters and an international terrorist is Exhibit #1 on the "Reade is Middle Management Material Not A Leader" list. The fact he (and the rest of them) then left Jane holding the bag while Avery got bitchy about facing the absolute bare minimum of vetting is also... a bit rude? (Seriously guys. Someone tell the kid that every other member of Jane's family was stripped to their socks and skivvies, tied down and irradiated, yeah? A blood pressure cuff and a couple little finger sensors is the Kruger/Briggs family equivalent of a trip to the park - WITH a free ice cream cone.) The rest of them? I've been "protected" via selective sharing of info and have unfortunately done that to others; I've been cheated on but also been the person far away for far too long, and I can imagine how someone who didn't have Skype or a support network or return date might fall to temptation; I've been a dumbass kid influenced by the wrong people; and I've been sometimes unjustly angry at people I didn't realize were actually sticking their necks out for me. The circumstances are Fucked Up High Drama, but they're all just kind of idiots muddling through, and I can't really be upset with any of them because I can't say I'd do any better in their shoes.
Aside from that, I’ve said to a few people before that I think a lot of my experience of the show is probably heavily influenced by being a post-series binge watcher. I never had a week much less a whole hiatus to speculate or form theories or expectations as to what might be next, because I just pressed play and saw what was intended to be next. I think that let me make sense of so much of it in a sort of real-time retrospective based on the pieces that were there, rather than looking ahead and wondering what might be planned to address this thing or that thing, so the gaps just never really stood out for me. I believe there’s a tremendous amount that went unsaid this season, but my head just sort of filled in the blanks without really consciously thinking about it, because the next twist was already in front of me so that's all I had time for.
So if you say to me, for example, "Did Jane properly apologize; did Jeller actually work on it?" my brain says "Obviously, otherwise what happened next wouldn't make sense." But the fact it didn't happen on screen bothers me 0% and I think a big reason is that for me those midseason episodes weren't spread over 6 weeks; they took place in a single evening. For me, it was already 3x13 and Nas was walking into Jeller's flat looking at Jane like she's a wet puppy or a toddler with a skinned knee, going "aww, been a long time hasn't it pud?" And I'm thinking, 'STFU, Nas, I mean thanks for doing the team a solid on your way out but now you're coming in here with that tone? Are we just supposed to pretend you weren't previously threatening to strip this woman of her human rights while having her man check your plumbing on the daily in this very apartment?' I mean in the moment, that was more compelling for me than a conversation or a healing process that I just assumed had already happened/started off-screen, you know? I wasn't speculating or imagining how Jeller might make up or come back from this, so I didn't miss that it's not there.
Side note, I have been encouraged to imagine and write down my own version of how that conversation/process might have gone, and I've started, so there will be another fic out there on the topic at some point... probably as a few follow up scenes to that fight I made them have. xD In the meantime, there were a ton of canon divergence/coping fics written at the time and in the years since; I really recommend @indelibleevidence's Taken for Granted, which is on both AO3 and FFN, and explores Weller having a much stronger response to Jane's weak in-canon homecoming. There are a lot of beautiful and often angsty shorter ones by other folks that play with it in different ways and which you can find by looking through the 3x11 and 3x12 tags.
In retrospect, I can see the reasons for everyone's (very valid) complaints, even if I don't feel it. A lot of the blame for the inconsistencies or subject matter in this season has often been laid at the feet of the writers, and for what it's worth, the pre-season article linked here gives some interesting insight into some unique challenges they were dealing with, which mostly seems to have come down to taking the show international. Venice was shot well before they had a table read for 3x01, and judging by the bts stuff out there, some of the other locations were shot wildly out of sequence as well. It can’t have been easy to keep the story together when chunks of episodes were locked in weeks or even months in advance of the stuff around it. I wonder if they even had their guest stars locked in when they committed to some aspects of these plots. Whether whatever story missteps those challenges may have contributed were worth the locations is up to personal opinion, I suppose.
Were there other ways they could have achieved the season's main outcomes? Probably, but I personally don't mind the routes they chose. Even if I did, I think at least I would have to give huge props to them for having ticked a lot of Very Large Boxes on the series’ penchant for parallels with this season. I'll be making a separate post about that, because unlike many other parallels, a lot of them this season are more spread out and thematic, and not necessarily easy to show in gif form because they aren't readily summarized by similar shots or dialogue the way so many of the parallels between seasons 1 and 2 were.
I’m gonna take one last minute to mention something that I don't think gets nearly enough attention in all the mess and feelings around Jeller and Avery and that's PATTERSON. Others have observed the way she’s giving everyone advice this season, but I just really… good lord. In season 1 she was so fragile and unsure. In season 2 everyone was mother henning her. This season she’s not only going home to sleep at night and running an apparently VERY lucrative side-hustle with Wizardville, but she’s straight up committing felonies on FBI time with it, and lying to every single new person she reveals its back door to (“I’ve never used it before, I swear!” Yes the hell you did, it was just like two episodes ago). And she shows zero remorse. She’s out here straight up telling everyone they’re full of shit, and at times telling them how to get their houses in order and how they ought to live their lives (with her hand on their forearm of course, to convey how she's a sweet concerned lil pumpkin who's just looking out for them). It's a beautiful follow up to the ending of season 2, when she was finally like HEY JANE HEY WELLER YOU'RE BOTH CONSIDERING MOVING TO DIFFERENT CITIES HERE'S AN IDEA EITHER PUT OUT OR JUST FUCKING LEAVE I'M TIRED OF YOUR SHIT KTHXBYE. She’s almost like the team’s new Allie, without all the Allie. I love this growth. It's beautiful and hilarious to see. 😂😂
Anyway, thanks and congrats to anyone who read all of this. You get a dozen (gluten and allergen free) cookies, even if you just skimmed it because good lord I’m long-winded for stumbling into a fandom that’s said most of it before. I'm just gonna finish this gifset and go back to my WIPs. 😅👍👍

for the blorbo fandom thing, steven universe?
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most): steven... my beloved. I can't put into words how much I care about him. I'm in a weird situation, with being a fan of the show for a while and being mainly a Lapis and Peridot fan (they're still really cool, obviously), then quitting around maybe season 3 (not for any reason! I just decided "the hiatuses are too much, I'm just gonna... wait until it's over and binge it. Which will uh. probably take years") and then coming back when SUF began airing and in the middle of me watching I became aware of what SUF was all about and, uh, gosh it made me look at him in a whole different light. I've been missing out on the best character.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped): Baby steven,,, I can't watch the original show anymore without feeling stupidly violently overprotective, and getting actually really upset, knowing that this all is very serious and real within the fiction of the show and that he's just a kid, and that he's going to have literal canonical cptsd by the end of the show. 😭
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave): I can't really name one because I think at this point every single character has like, at least a collection of around 10 people who are obsessed with them and appreciate them as they deserve.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week): Aquamarines in general. Not just the one that plays a role in the show. They're really cute and shaped.
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave): I'd say "every character in the show", because all of them had stupid discourse, but god, ROSE QUARTZ/PINK DIAMOND. I love her so much, god, I can't describe it. I get really sad thinking about her, and I don't even know where to start. I think one of the saddest things about her, to me, is that she really hated herself, to the point where she decided to just... Cease existing altogether. I hate it when people hate her more than others in the diamond authority. And I know that she'd 100% agree with people who hate her and absolutely felt that way about herself. Like she was irredeemable. Also the diamond authority too! They're all really interesting. They're trying to get better, and they genuinely do believe in this now, but, y'know. Too little too late. Rose is gone, forever. I think it's really sad, that they drove her to the actions she took. And that they're never going to be able to fix that. It's just how life is, and it makes it really sad and interesting to me.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason): Steven... You can see I really enjoyed SUF. 😔
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell): Pearl. Nothing personal I just think that she's the Cas to Rose's Dea-- [gets electrocuted]

Ship ask game: SethKate, kastle, chenford!
Well, it's very much a duh that I ship them all!
Kastle
Answered here
SethKate
1. What made you ship it?
This one is alllll Tumblr's fault. I saw those gifsets from season 3 and when I saw tiny smol and exhausted tall who looks like he's been hit in the head with a 2x4, like, how could I not? I read some fic first, and then realized that I n e e d e d to watch the show, and then binged it and have been fixating on them ever since. I mean, LOOK AT THEM. She's this tiny, pure, perfect liar who, five minutes after discovering that literal snake vampires are a thing, she cut one in half with A CHAIN SAW. And then she takes one look at this IDIOT who walks in front of her RV drinking a beer and is like, "It's just some weirdo." Like...girl you have NO IDEA that you're going to become that weirdo's second wife! And Seth is keeping an eye out for her from moment one--asking her if Richie did anything to her at the pool, promising no bumps or scrapes (which, sure that didn't actually turn out), but she becomes one of his central motivations throughout the latter half of the show and it's just SO good. And Seth doesn't believe he deserves anything remotely like Kate but Kate's just like...I can't believe I'm in love with this idiot holy shit I guess I'm going to have to keep reminding him that there isn't anyone else I want to be with and he's just going to have to deal.
They are just SO good together, like, how can you not?
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
Ugh I don't even know. Kate looks so wide-eyed and innocent and perfect and NO ONE would believe that she's a criminal, but she's SO good at manipulating people and they have NO idea, but like. Seth gets it? And he wants to shield her from all the shit but he knows she can handle it? Which is just SO clear in 3x10, when like, he does NOT want her to stay in Matanzas, wants her to GTFO and be safe, but she insists because she needs to be the one to stop Amaru (for so many reasons, including the practical, she's the only way they can stop Amaru sense) and he reluctantly agrees to it, but he's still protecting her the entire time. And he's just SO in love with her, like how can you not fall over for a ship where it's this tiny, capable small and the tall who would happily follow her wherever she wants to go, even the gate to hell?
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I don't think I have one, thanks to our small but relatively sane corner of the fandom that we're in. I once got yelled at by an anti-Kisa sock puppet because I wrote something where Kate spoke favorably of Kisa in ONE paragraph (and was subsequently asked to provide trigger warnings whenever I was going to mention her again, which, no), but I do think that even though most of Kate's knowledge of Kisa comes from the literal worst and longest night of her life, Kate is still Kate, and she's ultimately good and sees the good in people, culebra or not, and if Seth and Richie agree to work with her and that she's trustworthy (to an extent, in Seth's opinion, of course), then Kate would go along with it and give Kisa the benefit of the doubt. That doesn't have squat to do with SethKate, but hey, that's what I got.
Chenford
1. What made you ship it?
Once again, we can thank (or blame) Tumblr for this. And also the fics written by @fromiftowhen, which were basically the only way I survived that weird first week of November 2020. She's competent and smol, and he's competent and tall. I was a gonner from the start.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
They're such fantastic partners, even when they were Rookie/TO. They get each other and they're so honest with one another, even when it sucks. The dynamic is awesome. There are some REALLY great fic in this fandom and they're just so fun to read.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Emilyyyyyyy, are you trying to get me into trouble???? Okay, here we go: I think that it's okay that they're not together right now. In the grand scheme of this show, which I understand has the world's weirdest timeline (read: there isn't one), it's easy to feel like 4 seasons = 4 years. But in reality, it has not been long since they were Rookie/TO, and no matter what, I don't think either of them would want to jeopardize either of their careers by jumping into a relationship that soon, and especially not Lucy's. And Tim should not have to live like a monk, especially since they're at this point where Lucy is kind of his subordinate again. It's not like they're not friends, it's not like they're not partners right now--they're as close as they've ever been, but on only a slightly more even playing field--so yes, let him have another fling. Let Lucy have one too. They both know that there's something there (like, clearly, even from 4x01), but it would do a great disservice to their characters and to the show as a whole for them to jump into bed so soon after Lucy graduated.
Also, I do NOT think it's okay for Tim to be making comments about Lucy having to freeze her eggs, especially the way he made them on the show. If he knows anything about his relationship with Lucy's mom, then he should know that at the very least, he should couch any agreements with the acknowledgement that he knows that their relationship isn't perfect by any means before sharing his opinion. The way it was presented was a very mansplainy situation and I'm not okay with it, and Tim as the character that we've seen established in the past would not. Plus, Lucy is in her 20s, I believe, so...the whole pressure for her to secure her uterine future really comes from the fact that Lucy's mom hates her career and would rather see her barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen (🤮🤮🤮) than be in a career she's passionate about. I'm not here for it, and the writers who wrote that scene should feel bad.

1/3 Hello! I was the anon that asked you about "the americans" and "the leftovers" months ago. I believe I sent you an ask when I finished season 1 but then never said anything else because life sometimes just gets in the way and you can't find the time to message all the lovely strangers on the internet that recommend you tv shows. Anyway, I actually finished the whole show in the week after my last ask, it consumed my life entirely and changed me (it was also mid exam season but all was fine)
2/3 I've watched the first few episodes of season 6 but then my life got in the way again so I decided to just let the show end and binge watch it all later. I'm taking a day next week to do just that (and then probably cry, idk) I've been avoiding media websites and I have "the americans" blacklisted here because of spoilers (I won't even see your answer to this before I'm caught up!) but sometimes I see an headline or a tag that gets me all 👀
3/3 Basically all I wanted to say is enjoy the series finale, I hope it doesn't hurt too much. But even if it does hurt (which, lbr, there won't be a happy ending for everyone) I'm sure it will be the good kind pain, the one that comes from amazing writing and acting and directing and everything else in between. Have a good night and a great rest of the week 💚💚
Americans/Leftovers Anon!! How the heck are you? (This is you, right? And this?)
“It consumed my life entirely and changed me” = sounds about right.
Boy oh boy, you are in for an intense day (!!!! Please pace yourself if you need to, geez) next week. Let me tell you, this season starts off a LITTLE bit slow, but man does it pick up a few episodes in. And Keri and Matthew are both KILLING IT, especially Keri tbh. This has been truly a showcase season for her. On the other hand, Matthew does get to awkwardly line-dance, which is also pretty great. (Technically a spoiler, but an inconsequential one.)
Thanks for the good wishes!! I’m super excited for the finale and also dreading it and ready to die!! So yeah.
But you’re right, even if it ends in pain, I have confidence that it will be satisfying and will do the show justice, and that’s a great feeling to have.
Happy watching! Be careful with your stew! 💜💜
