ᰔ CANDY GRAMS ft. rintaro suna
ʚ CW : secret admirer. manager! reader.
Tumblr media
ʚ hq valentine’s series mlist ಇ
Tumblr media
every year on valentine’s day, your schools student body sets up a booth for candy grams. $2 to send a cute little message to your loved one with little lollipops and candied hearts. the line would stretch all the way down the hall with students eager to buy one, the end of the line grumbling at their time wasted when they heard the shout of “sold out!”. it was a huge tradition that the students never failed to miss, as it would always cause an uproar of excitement along with the funds being donated to whatever cause.
it’s your second year at inarizaki highschool, and you were luckily privileged enough to become the manager of the volleyball club during the second half of your first year, being a new student, despite the insane amount of girls who had applied for the spot. you had made it extremely clear that no, you were not interested in the twins, no, this wasn’t a plan to get one them to fall in love with you, and no, you weren’t a secret spy for a fangirl instagram account trying to gather information. all things accounted for, you were accepted into the position.
now as a second year, you had kept your word on not falling for the infamous volleyball twins who in reality were just dumb teenage boys that talked your ear off with their constant nagging and immature jokes. however, the one who had caught your eye was the middle blocker with the #10 jersey, rintaro suna. they never said you couldn’t have a little crush on him, right? and even despite having quite the interest in him, you would never act on it, as you seemed to be good friends with him along with the twins, not daring to ruin the friendship or break the trust with the club.
suna was a nice person to be around, his sense of humor was infectious and he was a good, more tame break from the rambunctious person known as atsumu miya, even though they did tend to occasionally get into mischief when together. he was blunt in the ways he showed that he cared, and you recall the moment you realized you had feelings for him when you had accompanied him at the store to get a snack before practice. he had asked you if you wanted anything, and you had told him you didn’t have any money with you.
“i didn’t ask if you had money. i asked what you wanted.”
it left you blushing for the rest of the day, walking out of the shop with a cookie in hand and hearing “why didn’t ya pay fer me?!” fall out of atsumu’s mouth in complaint. you knew in your heart you definitely couldn’t deny it now, you had fallen.
the date marked february 14th, valentine’s day, and just like last year, the halls were bustling in delirium as the line stretched from one end of the courtyard to the other. you slung your bag over your shoulder and continued to walk to your designated class, overhearing the cheers of the people who finally made it to the front of the string of students. making your way to class and taking your seat, you prepare to take on the day as if it were any other.
eventually, the period before lunch had rolled around, and the person passing candy grams from each class had reached your door. you could feel the anticipation of your peers as the student began dropping each one off to certain desks. 1 here, 3 there, 5, wow that’s quite a few.
after most of the class had received their special gifts, whispering the notes their partners had left for them to one another, you had expected the deliverer to make their leave and be on with it.
your assumptions hadn’t been correct, when you see that they had made their way to your desk.
“10 candy grams for miss l/n, here you go!”
wait what?
you caught a few quiet gasps and small whispers from some of your classmates as your desk had been filled with a whopping number of 10 candy grams. even you had wanted to gasp yourself, but you really did not want this attention on you.
after everyone had quieted down a little more, you took the gracious opportunity to check the pink slips of paper on each packet of treats.
“to: y/n.”
again, you checked another slip. then another, and another for good measure. to your upmost confusion, every single slip you had was completely nameless. before you could comprehend exactly what was going on with these mysterious sweets, class was being dismissed for lunch.
“buying candy grams for yerself? that’s pretty depressin’.” atsumu bellowed at you when you had walked up to your friends, arms almost overflowing with your gifts.
“im not that cheap, you idiot…there’s 10 here, and ALL with no name.” you scoffed back at him.
“maybe it’s yer stalker.” osamu had countered, eyeing the bags.
“oh yeah, how lovely that would be. quit trying to scare me, osamu.” you deadpanned. “where’s suna?”
“dunno. so, ya gonna share that candy or what?”
“really miya? you’re both holding an entire grocery bag of them. i’ll see you guys at practice.” you walked off, still pondering on the thought of who it could be.
you still hadn’t managed to find suna within the midst of this entire situation, wanting to get his input. despite the so called “thrill” of having a secret admirer, you didn’t really seem to care. you wanted suna, and you wanted it to be him who was sending you stupid pieces of candy and dumb notes. that however, is a wish that could never be granted no matter how bad you yearned for it.
it’s the last half of the day by now, most classes having been visited by the deliverer, disregarding a few. mostly extra candy grams were being passed to the people who didn’t receive them before lunchtime. you practically ignored the lesson your teacher was explaining, too caught up in your thoughts to listen. 10 candy grams, no name, suna has practically disappeared. when class had been dismissed, you passed by your locker in hopes of putting the treats in there for later, but when you opened the latch, you had yet another surprise waiting for you.
10 more packets of candy dribbled out of your locker, a couple landing by your feet as if to mock you. you scamper to pick them up with a huff, and when you start to shove them in with the rest in your locker, miserably failing to fit them all inside, you come to an immediate realization.
atsumu is the only person who unfortunately knows your locker combination, back when you had held his lost textbook for him until he could get it back.
it dawned on you in an instant, of course, this was atsumu’s idea of humour, a perfect valentine’s day prank.
you roll your eyes at the idea of the twins antics, but also began to feel a tinge of sadness when you came to your conclusion, a hint of hope in the back of your mind that maybe, it was the one your heart had longed for who was up to this, but you’re quick to shut it down. with an upset slam of your locker, you head to the gym.
feet that slowly skid onto the concrete stairs was all that could be heard, and your shoes squeek against the vinyl flooring of the inarizaki gym when you enter. as you prepare to tell off atsumu, a voice interrupts you.
“what’s up with you?”
it was suna, his head cocked to the side with a slight furrow in his brow.
“im trying to find atsumu, he’s really done it this time…”
“and what did he do?”
“he thought it would be a funny idea to prank me! on valentine’s day of all days! sending a mountain of candy grams that won’t even fit in my locker…there wasn’t even a name on them. and it made me think…” you interrupt yourself before you accidentally say too much, “it’s just dumb yknow?” you huff.
“i figured you would think something dumb like that.”
“… huh?”
suna starts to dig into his bag, hand reaching in and then back out. one of his arms extended out to you, holding one of the same cellophane bags that had been taunting you all day.
this one held a cookie, the same kind as that day back at the store, and when you open the note, you can feel yourself grow lighter.
“to: y/n.
you’re kind of a dunse.”
and this time, there’s an indicator of the sender on the slip of paper, in the same handwriting as all of the others.
“R. S.”
you look to suna with widened eyes and a growing blush to your cheeks, your mouth slightly ajar when you ask him,
“…it was you?”
suna softly smirks at you, his hidden facade of mischievousness breaking as he replies,
“yeah, you should really think before you trust a miya with your locker combo.”

let me live my fratboy!inarizaki dream okay?
chars: ‘tsumu, osamu, suna, & kita
nsfw — mdni, tw: corruption
Tumblr media
fratboy!atsumu who is literally the worst person alive, but he’s hot and a good fuck so it makes it okay, okay?
he’s fucked every girl from his fan club and every bimbo on campus but that’s not what satisfies him at all. prissy, hard-to-get girls with their hymens still intact really turns him on. why? because he enjoys the chase of a women who won’t instantly fall to her knees for him. secretly finding information about his next target so he could casually end up in the same study period, or walking along the same path just so he could talk to her. it could be labeled kind ‘stalkery’ but he labeled it as persistent, because at the end of the day once her manicure was clawing at his back it’s mission accomplished, and onto the next. “you didn’t think i actually wanted you? did you” he’d chuckle in the faces of the girls who looked at him with tears in their eyes, he figured that in the end they would end up blaming themselves for fucking a known whore anyway.
Tumblr media
fratboy!suna whose an old money nepo-baby, in which he flashes his parents cash to attract gold digger, wannabe future housewives.
slut is an understatement, calculated whore is a better term. as a psyc major he’s the king of gaslighting and manipulation, AND THE GIRLS EAT IT UP. unlike atsumu he somewhat puts in the effort to finding a girlfriend, but there’s always a new one…every month. being sly and cunning is genetic according to him, it’s also the same way he manipulates girls into not wearing condoms. “c’mon pretty, how’re gonna give me an heir with latex in the way, hmm?” and it works every time. every selfish, greedy girlfriend he’s had falls for his antics in hopes to marry their way into his family, and give him a baby. let’s just say the only “compensation” they got was from a therapist or him buying them off to get a plan b the next morning.
Tumblr media
fratboy!kita who is literally so smart he manages to y= m (x+d)^2 + k, girls into his bed.
it’s all so innocent at first when he offers to carry a certain girls books, and that turns into him sitting next to her in class. it’s cute from a far, isn’t it? when in reality he’s just singled out the classes bimbo in hopes to tutor her. day by day he’d observe while sitting next to her, as she’d glance over at him to catch him staring from time to time. she thought that he was maybe admiring how pretty she was or caught on to her perfume of the day, but that was never the case. in his mind he was practically drooling over the way her tits spilled out of her shirt, or when they had a test and he could tell she stayed up all night because she looked completely fucked out. after her whining a few times about her grades he offered to help, which just turned into him making her that much dumber by fucking her over his desk till she was babbling. “stupid girls fall into stupid traps” he’d say, and the fact that he did this every semester meant that he was always right.
Tumblr media
fratboy!osamu who is literally the most nonchalant asshole known around the entire campus.
osamu was too persuasive for his own good. he could never hold a solid relationship or friendship with anyone of the opposing gender, why? because he ends up fucking all of his female friends, and then ghosting them not even 24 hours after. his tricks were the same with every girl, and a night out with him always turned into the walk of shame the following morning. the only notifications any girl would receive from him afterwards is a copy of their intoxicated sex tape which most don’t remember making and a follow up message saying “my friends think you look really good on camera btw”. confronting him after study hall the next day wouldn’t change a thing, simply because the only response he’d give was “do i know you?”

WAGs
WAG: A wife or girlfriend of a sports star
Featuring: k.sakusa, r.suna
[ushijima,atsumu] vers.
Note: happy new year! I love how I posted like 5 things then dipped but I wanted to write some more on here 😭 enjoy!
Tumblr media
Sakusa:
You had met sakusa whilst he was making a name for himself. He wasn’t as big as he was now, but his name would be floating around the internet somewhere.
That’s actually how you first saw him. One of your friends had shared a photo of his in a groupchat, and the whole chat was going crazy over this insanely hot insanely talented upcoming volleyball star.
Of course you found him attractive, but you were absolutely certain he would be yours. There was no mindless attraction. You geniuinely believed your friend had just send your future husband directly to you.
She kinda did tho
Flash forward a couple months, you were doing some early morning shopping as one does. The store was quieter, everything’s was in stock. It was perfect. It was SO PERFECT.
because just as you were picking out snacks for your apartment, you saw a masked man dressed in a black hoodie that may have been a bit to small for him, seeing as you could make out the definitions of his muscles through the fabric.
You knew that man from anywhere, after all you had only been dreaming of him for the past few months.
Not wasting this opportunity, you bravely approached him, making small talk about the stuff you were buying.
‘This was no one and done situation though, ‘you thought.
The next store runs, you slowly grew closer, sometimes going to the shop only to talk to him.
He eventually gained the courage to ask you on a date and from there your relationship progressed until you took his last name.
By now, sakusa was bringing in BANK, not that that was the reason you were with him but still.
He vowed to spoil you like you deserved whilst you were in the talking phase, and boy did he keep his promise.
Eventually, you quit your job after your husbands persistent pleads that he makes enough money to support the both of you. All you had to do was support him in his games.
And with your new free time, you were seen at the majority of them, looking pretty on the Jumbotron with your hair done, dressed to the t with the finest jewelry, the most noticable one being the gold necklace with his jersey number on it that sat in between your collarbones.
Naturally, you gained your own cult following on social media, and you were often photographed at games and events due to your great fashion sense.
Speaking of
You met the rest of kiyoomi’s team at an MSBY exclusive event, aswell as the other wives and girlfriends of the players.
Sakusa loves you dearly and will spoil you at every given chance.
SUNA
You and suna were highschool sweethearts
You had supported him ever since the inarizaki days and continue to to so as he plays for EJP.
People have known about you for YEARS. It was almost like you grew as he did.
But it was mainly because he still has the cheesy romantic highlights of you from inarizaki, so as he gained more followers, more people viewed the highlights.
Even if they didn’t, his actual feed is full of pictures of you.
When it comes to spoiling you, he sees gift giving as more as a thank you or appreciation for sticking with him all these years, because you played a big part in shaping his career too, looking after him when he didn’t.
That being said he really does appreciate you, shown by the various Swarovski crystals adorning your neck and wrists, the sleek sports cars he bought for you claiming ‘they’re our children’, or the random, but costly furniture you obsess over dotted around your shared penthouse.
The man introduced you into a world of luxury and endless princess treatment, and vowed to never take you out of it.

Mistletoe
word count; 531 – f!reader
Tumblr media
Inarizaki were not exactly unfamiliar with pranks, but when everyone walked into the locker room after a tough winter practice, none of them could figure out who hung mistletoe over their door. Nonetheless, they kept getting dressed into their normal clothes while still discussing the odd decoration.
Everyone looked up when their captain knocked on the door instead of walking right in. “Manager coming in, everyone better be decent in 3… 2.. 1,” he announced before the door was opened, revealing you and Kita side by side. You had a kind smile on your face as usual, notebooks clutched to your chest.
“I just need to note down something I forgot, sorry for interrupting.” you started saying before frowning. “Why are you laughing?”
Snickers sounded throughout the room, some holding it in and some not. “It’s just...” Aran said, pointing at the branch that hung from the ceiling. “You two are under the mistletoe.”
You look up, tilting your head in confusion and looking back at the boys. “Did you guys hang this up here because you like kissing each other?” you asked without wavering, lifting an eyebrow and pointing your gaze more towards the second years. Some of them were even blushing.
Atsumu would not take this slander. “Well we don’t walk inside in pairs, but you two did,” he noted, crossing his arms. The guy was also not wearing his shirt, making Kita squint so he knew he would get a scolding later. However, he had more important things on his mind right now. There’s a reason Aran was trying his hardest not to smile too much. Kita would never in a million years deny kissing his crush.
“Please excuse them, y/n. We don’t have to-” Kita started saying, but he was shut up completely as you stood up on your toes and pecked his cheek before turning back to the boys.
“I need to know how many of you need new shoes next season,” you asked, clicking your pen and waiting for them to answer you. Kita had a light blush covering his nose as he glanced between you and his team, feeling like they were all staring at him. Not that he would have traded that for the world. He was so entranced by your confident professionalism and light humour in addition to the kiss, making him choke on any words he wanted to say.
“My shoelaces tore, so just laces I think,” Aran answered, saving you from further awkward silence. Suna said something about needing a new pair in a bigger size, and after just a minute, you had everything you needed.
“Great! Thank you,” you said, bowing to them before turning to Kita. He hadn’t noticed before, but now he could see your red ears and temples, a sudden shy smile on your face. “And to you, Kita.” you bowed again before turning around and walking out, leaving a stunned Kita to stare at the floor where you just stood.
Osamu whistled, putting his sweater on. “Didn’t know you had the hots for our manager.”
“Not another word from any of you about this or we’ll run double laps outside when the snow falls.”

MIYA ATSUMU
Atsumu and his habit of joking during serious times are slowly getting into your nerves. You told him hundreds of times already that you don't like being interupted when you are talking about something very important, especially when it comes to your feelings. But this time, Atsumu decide to cut you off again to tell you another joke that he picked up along your words.
"I'm so funny, right?" he asked, half smirking.
Your heart sank because you've been trying to pour your heart out yet, it seems like he didn't care at all.
"Seriously, Atsumu?"
"Whoa, what happened to Tsumu?"
You didn't respond to his question but instead, you grabbed your things and went out leaving Atsumu dumbfounded.
Hours passed, Atsumu was getting bored so he decided to dial your number to check up on you.
"What?" you answered coldly.
"Y/N where ya at?"
His tone seems like he wasn't bothered at all that you walked out and he didn't realize what went wrong yet.
"Don't call me, Atsumu. I don't want to talk to you."
"C'mon babe, Yer not dropping the call, are ya? Come home now. I miss you."
That one last straw bursted your tears out as you felt no care from your boyfriend at all.
"Damn you, Miya Atsumu. Is that what you're going to return to me after I pour my heart out on you? Seriously?
Atsumu panicked when he heared your cracking voice on the other line. Standing up, he speedily grabbed his Inarizaki High jacket and head out.
"Shh, shh baby, babe. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"What exactly are you apologizing for, Atsumu? Do you even know what you were apologizing for? You really hurt my feelings. Don't talk to me. I don't want to hear your voice."
With that, you dropped the call and Atsumu attempted to ring your number again but you rejected it.
"Shit." Atsumu felt like his world was ending because you were right, he didn't even know what he's apologizing for.
Replaying the scenario inside his head, that's when he realized that you were indeed, talking about something important but he chose to blurt out his random joke at an inappropriate time.
Atsumu knows that you're the only person who can tolerate his out of this world jokes and now that you've walked out and ignoring him because of that, he knew he fucked up real bad.
Good thing is that your shared GPS in on and he instantly located where you are—in the school library. Hurriedly, Atsumu will head towards you to apologize once more.
"The hell are you doing here?" you glared at him with your puffy eyes. As much as Atsumu wants to compliment how beautiful you are even though you're crying, he knows that it's not the right time for that.
"I'm so sorry, Y/N for cutting your off while you were opening up something to me. I shouldn't have done that. I'm willing to make it up to you, Will you let me listen and understand your problem once more?"
Atsumu will spend the whole day by your side, listening and understanding your complaints with life. He'll be quiet for most of the time but is very attentive to what you are saying. Expect hand rubs and forehead kisses as you pour your heart once more. Of course, he'll apologize once again because he still feel guilty for what he did.
"I didn't get the chance to say this earlier but you're really gorgeous, even when you're crying."
SAKUSA KIYOOMI
If there's one thing that you will label as a red flag to your boyfriend, Kiyoomi, it's about him and his lack of communication when he's frustrated. Growing up distant to people, Kiyoomi never realized that he attached his toxic trait to his relationship. At first, everything was fine, not until things started getting out of control especially during arguments. And yes, Kiyoomi's silent treatment and distancing isn't benefiting either of you.
"Kiyoomi, talk to me. You know we can resolve this by communicating, right?" you pleaded to the man sitting across you yet your words fell on deaf ears as Kiyoomi's eyes remained glued to the sports channel.
"Kiyoomi." you once more called him. Standing up, you marched towards the television and unplugged the device.
Turning around to your boyfriend, you were about to open your mouth to speak again when you saw a horrified expression from Kiyoomi's face. It was something that you never saw before. Ever.
Anger. Disgust. Annoyance. Hatred. Which one is it? You couldn't figure it out.
Everything was written on his face, just because you turned off the television so that you could communicate with him.
You felt like being electrocuted on the spot as you saw your boyfriend glare on you.
"I'm…sorry."
That's all it took you to remove your stoned feet on the ground to walk out of the apartment because you don't want to see Kiyoomi's expression.
Your heart cannot handle the fact that you just wanted him to focus, communicate, and resolve the argument together.
But today, it scared you that Kiyoomi might hate you forever because of that.
Before you could step out of the door, Kiyoomi's right arm slammed the door shut that made you jump in shock.
"Where…are you going?" he asked in a low voice.
"Out…for fresh…air." you felt like you were gasping for air as you took the words out of your throat. You didn't realize it but you were actually crying as you spoke.
Kiyoomi's arm slowly made its way towards your body and pushed you against his muscled chest, left hand following to caress your hair as you buried your face and tug on the hem tightly. You were sobbing and shaking in fear.
Kiyoomi's eyes started blurring out when he realized that you were crying because of him. It wasn't intentional for him to glare at you, it just became an unconscious reaction for him. And now, Kiyoomi's blaming himself so much internally for making you cry and scarring you.
"Y/N, darling. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." he whispered in your ear, shushing your sobs. "I didn't mean it. I'm so sorry that I scare you.
Kiyoomi's voice is full of regrets and his touches are fragile. This is the first time that he let someone this intimate with him and he's willing to fix everything because he doesn't want to lose you.
Later on once you're calmed down, Kiyoomi will ask about your side regarding the argument. He will listen and understand you carefully and sincerely. He will also apologize a lot of times and will offer to make some dinner to make it up to you.
The following days, Kiyoomi will try his best to open up his heart more to you and fulfill the distance he made you experience because of his toxic trait.

:: How they confess to you! (spoiler, you like them back)
With: Suna Rintarō and Kageyama Tobio x gn!reader (separately)
! reblogs are appreciated | wc: 1.8k+
Tumblr media
➵ Suna Rintarō
While you’re just hanging out, he would randomly say it
It wouldn’t be related to what you were saying
Is straight to the point
It comes out of nowhere, and you’d just be left there, shocked
You have to process what he just said
It never did cross your mind that you would be friends with a popular volleyball player. Nor did it cross your mind that you would have feelings for said volleyball player.
Suna is a good-looking person, if that wasn’t obvious. He has a few fan girls, always present in his matches, may it be in Tokyo or Hyōgo. He is what you could say nonchalant, not showing much emotion most of the time. He provided short answers and quick observations when needed. But, he was most talkative when he was with you.
Atsumu can say that he has never seen Suna talk more to anyone than he did you.
Suna met you in his first year in Inarizaki, while buying ice cream at some shop. It turns out, you’re in the same school and year as him. It was like you were meant to meet. You two became closer, meeting each other in between periods and after classes, sometimes accompanying him while he practiced.
Suna asked you if you wanted to go with him for ice cream after classes end, as he had no practice and you didn’t have any club meetings. So, you said yes. It would have been rude to say no, especially if it was your crush asking, no?
You had gotten the cookies and cream ice cream while Suna got chocolate ice cream. You thought it was weird, especially since he usually orders the same as you. It turns out he doesn’t like cookies and cream that much… Then says he has never tried it before?
“You know, cookies and cream is actually really good. I like it-”
“Yeah? And I like you,” what?
“Huh?” To say that he didn’t mean to confess to you right there wasn’t entirely false. It was Suna, after all. He does unexpected things that he’s been meaning to do for a while.
“Nothing. Come on, let’s go,” he says, slightly embarrassed, and walks even faster, making you just stand there and process what he just said.
“Hey! Wait! The hell did you just say?” You run up to him as he was already further along.
“I said it was nothing.”
“Before that, dumbass!”
“I don’t know what you mean,” he wasn’t giving you a break, huh? It was an amusing sight, really. A person trying to stop a boy, giving their all trying to stop him.
“You know exactly what I mean… Stop walking so damn fast!”
“Forget what I said. I said nothing,” contrary to what others may think, he didn’t care about if you liked him back, he just knows that somehow, it will spread everywhere in a matter of seconds. How THE Suna Rintarō confessed. How THE Suna Rintarō actually likes someone. How Suna Rintarō-
“And if I said I liked you too?” you cut his thoughts off with eight words, and he didn’t think he would be more relieved to hear them.
“Eh? Really?” Frankly, he could barely believe it. Someone like you likes him? He must be in a dream, he must be.
“Yeah! For a while now. I thought I would have to tell you, but you beat me to it,” he had finally halted in his tracks, not believing one bit that his crush likes him too. And for a while? How come he didn’t notice?
“Oh. Then, can I be your boyfriend?” Straightforward, as per usual. It didn’t seem weird for Suna to be so forward.
“Sure, Suna."
“Rintarō,” he corrects you.
“Alright, then… Rintarō,” you cast a small smile on his face. It just seems so natural to you. So casual, even if this is a big change for both you and him.
The rest of the way towards your next destination, he had your fingers intertwined with his, swaying it ever so slightly. Yeah, ice cream has never tasted better.
➵ Kageyama Tobio
None of it was meant to happen
A certain team mate of his was just being a little too loud for his liking, resulting in whatever situation you were in now
To other people, you and Kageyama were polar opposites. You were sweet, nice, there to give a hand to people who need it, loving. He, on the other hand, was feared. Whether it was his aura or appearance that scares people, he was still feared. It didn’t sit right with people how you two were so close, never mind being friends. People would have thought you would be better friends with Hinata, if they had to pick.
Due to your welcoming personality, people are bound to like you. Letters and gifts stack your desk every day, Valentine’s Day being a day when you're bombarded with confessions and flowers galore. It was why Kageyama had never admitted his little liking towards you.
It didn’t take long for his teammates to figure out why he acted so differently around you. The way his eyes would glisten at the sight of you. How he stutters more in your presence. How he seemed to work harder at practice when you were watching. How his sets get more accurate, if that was even possible, if you were watching the match.
It also didn’t take long for his teammates to tease him about it, sometimes even his coach.
“Oh, ho! Looks like loverboy’s back from hanging out with the love of his life!” “Kageyama, you act sweeter around [Name]. How ‘bout you act like that around me!?” “Look at the king! Stuttering around poor little [Name]!”
The comments did faze him, but he looks at you once and he somehow calms down. The team begs you to watch their practice when you can, they didn’t want their setter to be such a hassle.
It was already late in the afternoon, around when his practice was supposed to end. You offered to wait for him as you also had a club meeting to attend, not wanting to walk alone.
Opening the gym door, they were doing a practice match, three versus three. So, they were focused on the game and didn’t look at who entered and who exit. The first to notice you was Nishinoya.
“Oh, guys, look! It’s Kageyama’s crush!” He shouts to the team. Now, all eyes were on you. Wait, what did he say?
“Huh!? Excuse me?” You blurt out. It didn’t take a genius to know that you had no idea about his feelings towards you, even if he was completely obvious that it was embarrassing. The ball drops beside Kageyama, who was supposed to set it to Hinata before… this.
“Noya, bro, run!” Tanaka shouts to him before Kageyama could pounce on the 5’3 libero.
“Oh, shit,” Nishinoya realizes what he did and bolted out of the gym, leaving everyone stunned. If you didn’t know better, he would have thought Kageyama was frozen dead as his arms dropped beside him, his mouth agape.
No one dared utter anything. It was just complete silence. The coach, who was also just as surprised at Nishinoya’s actions, decided to dismiss the team. Kageyama was the first one out of the gym and into the club room, wanting the ground to swallow him whole. He swore he was going to kill Nishinoya, even if he was his upperclassman.
Twenty minutes later, after the whole team comforts him, saying it would be alright, he decided to be brave and walk home. Maybe you went home already?
Nope. It turns out, you sat on the stairs waiting for him. God, damn it.
You stand at the sight of your friend. You two just stare each other down, neither one wanting to move from their position. You decide to motion him to follow you. He merely follows what you tell him, trailing behind you as you walk together.
It stays an awkward silence for a few minutes, stopping at a green light, waiting for it to turn red.
“...So. Uhm, do you want to tell me what happened there…?” You ask him.
“Uh…” It was clear as day that he was, most definitely, scared. And you didn’t think you would see Kageyama Tobio scared.
“You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, that’s fine,” you said. Although you really really wanted to know what he had to say, you didn’t want to force him.
“No, it’s fine… Okay, you have to listen to what I’m about to say, alright?” You nod your head at his words, was he dying?
“I really really really like you. For a few months now and I was scared you didn’t so I didn’t tell you, but Noya didn’t seem to get the message and accidentally screamed you were my crush. It’s alright if you don’t like me back, can we stay friends?-”
“Tobio, calm down,” he stopped talking at the sound of your voice. Hm, you still had the same effect on him, even when he was confessing. Wait, Tobio? That was the first time you called him that.
“Let me speak. Do you know why I reject every single confession I get?” You ask him. He shakes his head from side to side, visibly confused at the sudden question.
“Heh, even with the number of confessions I get, you would think I accept at least one, right? That’s what people think. There is one person I would say yes to if they ever did confess to me,” his heart shatters. You had your eyes on someone already? Damn it.
To say he wanted to disappear right there would be an understatement. He’s frozen in place, he can’t be bothered to move.
“Listen to me, Tobio. That person is you, alright?” Wait. Pause. Stop the time and rewind. You liked him back?
“For how long you’ve liked me, I’m sure I’ve liked you for longer,” you sigh as you confess your feelings to him. His eyes widen at your words.
“Wait, you like me back?” He asks you.
“Yes, keep up!.... So, what are we now?”
“...Dating? Only if you want to, though,” that last part was added as a measure.
“Well then, Tobio. Would you-”
“[Name], would you want me… to be your boyfriend?” He cuts you off, asking the question you’ve been wanting to hear from his mouth. You smile, a faint blush creeping up your face.
“Yes.”
Bonus!
The next day
“Huh!? You’re dating?” Sugawara says in surprise as they kept pestering him about what happened yesterday.
“Yeah. They said they also like me, so we’re dating,” he hung his head low, not wanting his teammates to see the red from his cheeks as he remembers the memory.
“Damn it, I wanted to confess to them…” Hinata mutters under his breath, but much to his dismay, Kageyama hears.
“Hahhh!?”

feat: miya osamu
genre/warnings: sfw, fluff, royal!au (i'm trying here so don't judge), guard!osamu x princess!reader, one character looking down reader's dress
wc: 2900+
. 。˚others may not be able to tell the difference between the miya twins, especially with their helmets on, but you can˚。 .
~
osamu knows this is a bad idea.
he’s at atsumu’s post, standing still at the top of steps that lead to the gardens looking straight ahead at them, atsumu himself on the other end of the lavish fields, the two watching intently for intruders, or anyone who could pose as a potential threat. if any of the palace’s staff were to walk by, they would barely spare osamu another glance - with his helmet on, no one can see his tufts of gray hair underneath, their only other determining physical feature being their eyes, and he’s sure that none of the staff would even be able to recognize the that difference between himself and his brother.
except you.
currently out in the gardens with one of the princes from a neighboring kingdom, nohebi, he thinks, a grim expression painting your face from the moment your father whisked you towards the front entrance of the palace to greet him. osamu didn’t particularly like the smug smile plastered across the black-haired prince’s face as he exited his carriage, nor did he miss the way the man’s snake-like eyes stared down the top of your dress as you greeted him with a curtsy. from his position at the top of the steps to the palace, osamu could only watch in disgust as he sauntered by him and his twin to follow you and your parents into the palace.
while osamu still would have been able to see you from his original post that atsumu is occupying, his current spot on the outskirts of the palace gives him a higher, better view of you and the sly prince. he can see you clearly as you move throughout the gardens a few paces ahead of nohebi’s crown prince, gaining traction as you lead the man further towards osamu’s normal post. should things go wrong and someone spots them, he supposes he could just blame it on atsumu. they are twins, after all. and it was his idea, his brother jabbing at his bicep with his elbow as they watched you and the prince retreat towards the doors that led to the garden. “ya wanna take my spot on the steps?” he had whispered, leaning into his brother’s body. “might be a little easier for ya ta keep an eye on her.”
but he knows you wouldn’t fall for the “atsumu started it!” excuse. they’ve been your guards since the age of 13, hand selected by your parents, the king and queen, to watch over you as you begin to age into your teens, wanting extra protection for their youngest daughter. their only princess.
you didn’t have any objections to it, not when both of your brothers had been assigned personal guards when they first reached double digits. you couldn’t imagine seeing your brothers without aran and kita a few paces behind them, their protective eyes always ensuring you were also safe within their line of sight. just as they protected your brothers, they protected you as you grew, right up until you reached the same age and were to be granted your own protection. enter the twins.
hailing from a small village in the vast kingdom of inarizaki, the same village that aran and kita grew up in, it seemed as though the twins were raised for the job from the second they arrived at the palace. you remember seeing them hang around with the two older boys from a young age, tirelessly training with the other guards and knights from sunrise to sunset; neither twin faltering under the intense pressure they were faced with. surely they never knew who or what they would be tasked with protecting until their assignment when they became of age, but the two were dedicated to their craft, hell bent on proving their worth to the royal family. luckily (and unbeknownst) for them, they proved their worth from the first time you saw them.
“i hope i’m not assigned to guard the princess.” one boy groans.
someone else chuckles. “yeah, me and you both.”
from your hiding spot behind one of the many large columns lining the outskirts of the palace near the training grounds, you feel your heart drop, and you sink back to fully hide behind the massive beam. you try not to let the words of some silly guards - some silly boys, that is, bother you. it always seemed to be like this - no matter how many guards your family brings in to train as personal protection, they never seemed to have any interest in protecting you, instead choosing to help protect your brothers, parents, or simply going off to serve in the kingdom’s military.
“why not?” another voice pipes up, his tone almost accusing? when you peer back around the column, you see one of the group of boys standing with his arms crossed, a stark contrast to the rest of them, scattered and sitting on the steps. though not facing you directly, you were able to catch a glimpse of his blonde hair before he stepped in front of one of his fellow guards in training. “ya don’t wanna be around the princess?”
another boy, sitting on the bottom step, huffs. “it’s not like she even needs the extra protection,” he laughs wryly. “at least the princes get to practice sparring and fighting! all she does is sit in the palace, attend her lessons, and play in the garden. it’s boring.” he puts emphasis on the word boring, almost spits it.
gripping on to the ridges of the column, you push your head a bit further out to see more of the boys and their conversation, a scowl on your face. another stands quietly, moving to stand next to the blonde and mimics his actions, crossing his arms over his chest. he turns to face the the other boys who were sitting, cocking his head to the side. “it’d be an honor to protect the princess,” he says pointedly. “ya don’t know how lucky ya’d be.”
with a sharp turn, the boy begins to walk off, in your direction no less, ignoring the frantic shouts of what you assume must be his name. “samu!” the blonde boy calls, but it does him no good. the gray-haired boy ignores him, stalking past you without so much of a glance, his matching gray eyes staring straight ahead. the blonde, who looks eerily similar to the one he was calling after, comes running after him.
if only you knew that in just a few short hours, the two boys who came to your defense would soon be tasked with protecting you daily.
from his spot at the top of the steps, osamu can just quite make out the top of your head as you stroll through the gardens, a few paces ahead of the black-haired prince. no matter how quickly the man walks, he can’t seem to catch up to you, not when you spin around and speed up through the lush fields to evade his ever present hands reaching out to grasp your arm. though quite far away, osamu can see how frustrated prince daishou is getting, pausing briefly to take a deep breath before following after you. osamu chuckles to himself.
as you and the prince disappear further into the tall hedges, osamu hopes that at least atsumu or one of the other guards patrolling the lawn has an eye on you. these meetings tend to go the same way every time - your parents arrange for a prince, or duke, or nobleman from a neighboring territory to come to the palace and get to know you, to escort you through the gardens, and pitch themselves as to why they would make a suitable husband and possible future king. to secure some sort of political alliance. however it always ends with you giving your parents an indifferent smile and a shrug, much to their chagrin. too tall, talks too much, bad breath, it doesn’t matter. your excuses are endless.
osamu can’t wait to hear what you have to say about this one.
though tasked with ensuring your safety, the twins eventually found a way to weasel themselves into a more casual relationship with you. with atsumu’s overbearing and childish nature and osamu’s calm and collected one, you had almost no choice but to allow the informalities, finding yourself more and more lax in their presence. always quick to defend your status or position to outsiders, ready to help at the lift of a finger, and even popping their heads in and out of obligations that you dread, ready to whisk you away with a claim of someone important needing you, the princess, right away. and who are your guests to deny your excusal? you are the princess, after all. ever perceptive, the two seem to know exactly what you’re thinking at all times.
almost always.
osamu didn’t realize how much he must’ve been daydreaming. not until he feels a rush of air and the sounds of heels clicking down the marble floor of the palace invade his senses, snapping his attention back to the scene unfolding before him. his eyes fly into the palace to follow the sound of the heels, the back of your long, lavender dress swaying behind as you angrily stomp down the halls.
“lady l/n!”
prince suguru is quick, but osamu is quicker, stepping in front of the swift man to stop him from following after you. it’s not like you to rush out of something with no say, not without himself or his brother pulling something out of their asses. the prince sneers down at him, snake-like eyes narrowing at him. he moves to step around osamu, but he’s right there, blocking his path again. “will you get out of the way?” the prince spits.
osamu opens his mouth to speak, but atsumu is quick to beat him to it. “as the princess’s personal guards, i’m afraid we can’t do that,” he says from behind the prince, who scoffs at him. atsumu flashes them a sly grin, jutting his chin down the halls you had just passed through, eyes drifting to his twin. “you go find lady l/n and make sure she’s okay.”
the words are barely out of atsumu’s mouth before osamu is all but running down the hallway in the direction of your clicking heels, eyes darting around the palace quickly. it’s not long before he catches up with you, slowing to match your pace a few steps behind you and stands up straight, gently clearing his throat. “my lady-”
“i do not feel very well, my lord.” the words are rushed coming out of your mouth at the same time that osamu speaks, a stark contrast to your normal speech patterns, always so eloquent and concise. you stick your right hand out a bit behind you, not quite far enough to reach osamu, and your voice is shaky as you speak again. “i must ask that you allow me to retire to my room at once to rest.”
osamu’s steps quicken until he’s walking backwards in front of you, arms reaching out gently in your direction. “it is only me, princess,” he says, louder than before, letting out a soft breath when your steps slow until they stop completely. you glance up, allowing your eyes to meet for a brief moment before they dart back down to your shoes.
“osamu,” you whisper, your eyes avoidant. you pause, your chest rising and falling at a faster rate than normal. “i need to rest.”
you begin to walk again, passing him, and he lets you get a few steps down the hall before he’s turning and following you slowly. “i understand, my lady. but one of us must accompany you at all times.”
huffing, you glance over your shoulder with a slight pout as the two of you approach the door to your room. “at all times,” you mutter softly, before turning to the guard at your door with a blank smile. “i’m not feeling too well, so i must ask that you allow me some privacy while i rest.”
osamu smiles wryly at the guard as he passes, allowing you a few moments in your room before he steps inside. “is everything alright, my lady?” his gray eyes follow you as you pace around the room, fiddling with the decorative clip that pins up your hair. your back to him, you don’t turn, other hand reaching up to play with the strap of your day dress. he steps in further, shutting the wooden door behind him, and you whip to face him immediately, taking a tentative back. “princess, are you alright?” he repeats. “did something happen with prince suguru?”
your eyes meet his when he says the prince’s name, and osamu slowly reaches up to remove his helmet, not breaking eye contact. now given full view of his face, you glance down at your shaky hands. “one of us must accompany me at all times, huh?” you ask, repeating what you had said under your breath just outside your room. “why weren’t you at your normal post?”
he pauses, eyebrows furrowing. “what do you mean?”
you exhale through your nose, meeting his gaze once again. “my parents and the others may not be able to, but i can tell your voices apart,” you mumble, crossing your arms and looking back down at your feet. “that creep of a prince was looking down the top of my dress the whole day and the second he figured he was out of your sights he thought he’d try to stick a hand down it.” your voice increases as you speak, throwing your arms out at the end. “and when i loudly asked him to step back, it wasn’t your voice that called out to me asking if i needed assistance, it was atsumu’s.”
osamu is frozen in front of you. sure, his normal post is stationed at the first fork in the gardens, much closer to you in proximity than atsumu’s, but he was sure that the higher ground of his twin’s post gave him a better way to keep an eye on you as you moved further into the gardens. now, he feels like a fool for going through with such a silly thought.
“i was only trying to have a clearer view on you, princess,” osamu takes a hesitant step closer to you, and another when you do not flinch or back away. with a deep breath, he continues. “i’d like to think i have better eyesight than my brother.” falling back to sit on the chaise situated at the foot of your bed, you exhale sharply through your nose, and osamu can’t tell if it’s to express amusement or distaste. though, with the way you’re still avoiding his watchful eye is having him lean towards the latter. he takes another step forward, then another, until he’s but a large stride away from your seated figure. “can i ask why you were so disheartened to hear atsumu’s voice instead of mine, princess?” he asks, not missing the way your fingers, currently lightly rubbing at your temples, freeze in their actions. “surely, he is just as capable of protecting you.”
your hands find refuge in your lap, fingers fiddling with each other as you straighten your posture. “o-of course he is.” you rebuke, turning your head slightly so that you’re staring out the window. “i was simply asking a question. you’re lucky no one noticed that you two were at different posts. you both could have gotten into trouble.”
osamu chuckles softly, taking another step towards you, finally drawing your attention back to him. your lips part slightly as you slowly glance up at him, and the corners of osamu’s perk up at the sight of your soft gaze. “well, it’s just like you said princess,” he coos, and your eyebrows furrow, cocking your head to the side. “you’re the only one who can tell us apart by just our voices.” osamu’s voice drops as the words leave his lips, stepping back towards the door as your eyes shoot back towards him.
your mouth drops fully open as if to speak, but no words come out. osamu can’t help but feel warm at the sight of your reddening cheeks, struggling to find the words “w-well, of course i c-can!” you sputter. “i’ve known you both for years! i, um, didn’t want you to get into trouble with anyone.”
the warmth in his chest spreads, and osamu hums softly to himself. “i appreciate the concern, my lady. allow me to go find atsumu and ensure that prince suguru is dealt with accordingly.” you nod quickly, eyes trained on your hands in your lap. “you should rest, princess.” you nod, but make no effort to move. “i will return once he is dealt with.”
and after personally escorting prince daishou suguru of nohebi to his carriage with atsumu, osamu does return, only to find you asleep in the same lavender dress, hair sprawled across the array of decorative pillows that you hadn’t even bothered to move before making yourself comfortable on top of your fully made bed. osamu chuckles to himself, gently pulling at the blanket that sits at the end of your bed, far enough away from your feet that it lays untouched. he drapes it over your sleeping figure, ensuring that your arms, legs, and feet are covered before a soft smile spreads across his face. hesitantly, his fingers reach out towards your face, slowly brushing away a piece of hair splayed across your cheek, breath catching in his throat when you let out a soft whine. however, you don’t move, nor do you say anything, your chest continuing to rise and fall with your even breaths, and osamu lets out a sigh of relief, a smile poking at his lips.
“sleep well, princess.”

YOU’VE RUINED MY LIFE BY NOT BEING MINE — suna rintarou one-shot smau
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
as the self proclaimed honorary miya sibling (by you and the twins— since your parents and the miya twins’ parents were the closest friends, it ended up with their children being playmates). it was that one sunny day in the park when you became stuck with them ever since.
you’re one year younger so when you finally entered inarizaki and first laid your eyes on suna— osamu’s bff you’ve only heard about in passing. you fell. like literally slipped and fell because you were running towards the twins and when you saw suna you lost balance.
it was also the day when you declared you were going to be the love of his life.
suna was taken aback by your strangeness and only realized you were serious when you gave him a proper confession at the back of the school a week later when you claimed, “i’m going to make you fall in love with me.”
to which his reply to your confession was a shrug and a “you can try, but don’t hope for much.”
it’s been a year. and you’re still as determined as ever!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
after the whole, chasing suna around the school and giving up after a few minutes and munching on a fruit sadly, suna came in and walked towards you and atsumu, pat your head and said “i was only teasing you.”
okay maybe joining the cheer squad was an impulsive decision, but hey! you were already alongside them every game and half of your friends were on it so you thought why not do that for your extracurricular this year! the outfit looked good on you, you cheer for inarizaki (suna), and bonus points that you’ll have fun— the situation offered absolutely no losses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hitoshi and you were talking last week about how you’ve been trying to woo suna for about a year now and he asked if there was still no progress and you think about it and resisted the urge to refute his claims. suna and you spend a lot of time together, not that other people knew, even the twins (there are some things you prefer to keep between just him and you).
hitoshi mentions that he wants to help you, you both stare at each other and say “we should make him jealous!” at the same time. you were amused at the notion because you’ve never seen suna jealous before. hitoshi was just bored. the perfect formula of friendship!
suna and you constantly go out at least 2 times a week, and every time after-game, albeit a few hours after post-game eat-out. he’s the reason why you’re MIA when atsumu’s trying to tell you about the new manga releases that week.
suna acts like he doesn’t care about your advances on him most of the time in front of other people but of course, that’s only a farce. why would he tolerate all of your silly advances if he wasn’t head over heels for you too?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“so are we dating?!” you shout in hysterics through your phone where suna’s on the other line.
it makes osamu place his earphones in and atsumu glare at you while bashing suna on twitter. the three of you were on your way home after atsumu made a scene in the suna household 20 minutes prior.
“i’d prefer if we make it official in person, you know,” suna says groggily, having been woken up from his sleep by atsumu’s screeches.
“i can run back to your house,” you propose, suna chuckles while atsumu traps you in a headlock. osamu walks ahead and pretends he isn’t associated with you and atsumu.

Tumblr media
You couldn’t help peer out the window of your shared home with your husband. He was outside with your 5 year old son, playing some volleyball. Your son had never taken a liking to sports until your husband began cleaning out his old stuff, stumbling upon his jersey from his high school years. He would never admit and you would never bring it up but he did get emotional looking back at these days. The days where he led one of the greatest teams, not on the main roster, but he was still aware of the impact he had on the boys. He wasn’t the worst player but nothing notable, however Shinsuke had the power to put anyone at ease and you loved that about him.
Shinsuke never showed much self-confidence when the two of you had met in your first year. It’s not that he didn't have the confidence he just never felt the need to show it, and you appreciated that about him. You appreciate how no matter what Shinsuke was straight the point, you appreciated his need for routine, which has really helped your home life. You appreciate how he loves, how he cares for others. Kita Shinsuke was the perfect man.
However, despite how lucky you feel to have Shinsuke in your life. He feels even more lucky for you, he knows you are his soulmate from the day he met you in the first year. He felt as if all the work he had ever done paid off, he felt like the luckiest man in the world. At the beginning it was just a hallway class, the girl from class 1-6. Having your classes next to each other & both being in advanced classes meant the both of you would have recurring meetings. The next thing he knows, Aran had recruited you as the volleyball clubs manager as the team wouldn’t shut up about not having one. Shinsuke then began spending everyday with you, which turned to every waking second he was with you whenever he could be. He was your best friend, right?
That’s what you had thought. You would have never admitted your crush on Kita that began growing. However his admiration for you began sprouting. He loved the way you smiled, how you got along with everyone, took care of yourself and others, how you tie your shoelaces, how you set out  your notebook, how you played with your hair when you were nervous and how you didn’t seem to fear anything. Unlike him. Kita had put his feelings behind him, until he decided it was now or never, graduation. It was cliche, Shinsuke knew that. He had gotten you a bouquet of flowers, you had mentioned your favourite flowers in a passing conversation the second week of the second year. A useless piece of information, Shinsuke remembered that. Why wouldn’t he? He loved you. That day to Kita’s surprise, you said yes. You agreed to be his girlfriend.
Now, almost 10 years later. Shinsuke was your husband. Those flowers he had given you on graduation day you had pressed, they stayed on display in your kitchen, as well as a photo of you and Shinsuke the day your son was born. Now Shinsuke spent his days as a rice farmer instead of a volleyball player. However seeing him playing with your son reminded you of the man you fell in love with.
You snapped out of a trance when your son called out to you, “Mum! Look! Dad taught me how to play volleyball like he used to.” You couldn’t help but smile, “He said I was really
good! Mum, can I start playing volleyball! I wanna be like dad!.”
You turn towards Shinsuke, he looked so amused at the scenario. You jokingly roll your eyes at him, “of course you can baby!” You said planting a kiss on your son's forehead. “How about for now you and daddy go get cleaned up?”
“Okay!” Your son responds with a toothy smile, before your son begins pulling your husband down the hallway.
You felt like the luckiest woman alive.

Falling asleep on them
Kenma
You were hanging out in Kenma’s place after his practice was over, something typical between the two of you. Kenma wasn’t a fan of going out, and while he did some exceptions for you – like going to the cinema or a cat café – he much rather stay inside. Not like you minded really, your relationship was super chill and you liked being with him.
Sometimes you two play together; sometimes he plays while you watch, always explaining the lore of the game; sometimes you two sit there doing homework together; and sometimes, like today, you were hugging him by the waist, cuddling him while he plays on his console lazily.
“Babe look, the monster that I told you appeared” he says enthusiastically looking at the screen. He was explaining you the game just a few minutes ago, about how rare one of the monsters was. However, he only received silence, unusual from you. Even if you didn’t care about the game, you always responded “Babe?”
He looks down to his chest where he found, in his opinion, the most beautiful sight ever. You squishing your cheek on his chest with a soft smile, stirring slightly when you heard his voice. His eyes went wide before lowly shushing you back to sleep, not wanting to wake you up.
He quickly turn his console volume down, staying completely still while questioning what to do. Should he wake you up? No, that wasn’t a good idea, it was 21:46 and you were tired, definitely not because he loves the sight, not at all. So he did the only logical thing, the thing that he would do only for you.
He turn off his console before shooting a text to your mom saying that you would stay with him. After that was done, he slowly move the both of you, ending up with him lying down in his bed with you cuddling even closer to him.
“Goodnight babe” says kissing your temple, turning his light off before hugging you back. He could use a good night of sleep anyway.
Atsumu
Being Inarizaki’s manager and Atsumu girlfriend was definitely exhausting, but everything was worthy at the end.
Today was a particularly long day, you had to wake up extra early to have a talk with the coach, two exams and now the guys practice was running longer than expected.
You were sitting in the gym floor when they decided to take a break, it was past the time they usually finish but none of them seem to care. Atsumu immediately comes to your side when they had a small break, seeing your tired self
“Are ya okay angel? Ya have been awfully down today” he says sitting down next to you
“You noticed?”
“Of course I did, I’m yer boyfriend. What happened? Are ya tired?” you nod sleepily, closing your eyes while lying on his shoulder.
His eyes widen a little at the sudden movement. He was used to affection, he was always hugging you whenever he could, but usually it was him initiating skin ship. He pass his arm through your shoulders, pulling closer to his chest to hug you tightly.
He lets you accommodate yourself in his chest, which you gladly do despite the sweat, at this point you were used to it. He feels your breath even out, so he kisses the top of your head in hopes you can relax more.
He can’t help the feeling of proudness that starts rising in his chest. The fact that you feel so safe to fall asleep on him makes his shoulders rise to the sky; nobody has trusted him this much before.
“Atsumu, go back to pra-”
“Shh, coach, my baby sleeping” he interrupts him, right now he doesn’t even want to go back to practice “can I practice tomorrow? I don’t want to wake her up”
“…Sure” says the coach taken aback.
Miya Atsumu has never denied practice, but for you, he will do anything.
Akaashi
These past few days have been hectic to say the least, between helping around your own club, cheering your boyfriend in his practices, and of course, your classes. In fact, all of your classes were getting harder that your stress was going to the roof.
Right now you were sitting in the grass of the Fukurodani gardens next to your boyfriend. His practice was pushed until later, so he decided to help you out studying to spend some time with you.
After a few minutes you began to get fidgety, and Akaashi being Akaashi, noticed right away.
“Hey, you okay?”
“Yeah, just tired. It has been a long few weeks”
“In that case let’s stop. Come here” with that he took your things away from you and slightly pull you towards his lap. You don’t try to fight him, you know that you have not chance of winning when he set his mind on something. Also, you get to lay in his lap, which doesn’t happen that often.
You soon find yourself relaxing in his legs, his hand running through your hair helping you immensely.
Akaashi’s plan was to let you relax for a few minutes, but he didn’t really expect you to fall asleep there; he didn’t knew you were that tired, if so he would have force you to sleep a lot earlier. He looks down to you, noticing how you were hugging his leg tightly with a relax smile on. He can’t help to smile at seeing you before looking at his watch; he has a few more minutes before going to practice, he supposes he can let you relax. He leans down, pressing a light kiss in your forehead
“Sleep tight love”

Hiiiii love ur writing hope ur having anice day..... Pls can I request osamu X reader where he's stern /stubborn but a bit soft for reader hehe whatever genre u want 🫶
OMG YESS I LOVE SOFT SPOT OSAMU (i actually had something planned with this with dad samu)
"daddy, daddy, guess what," Osamu turned around from behind the counter at the voice of his little girl. She came running in and her little sparkly backpack came bouncing in behind her.
"what baby?" Osamu asked leaning over the counter to see her tiny frame.
Getting on her tip-toes and grabbing the edge of the counter the mini miya said, "rinnie-kun surprised us when I were shopping with mommy!"
"oh did he now..." Osamu was not happy. He had asked Suna to stay away from his daughter because he was a bad influence. He didn't want to have to explain what a vape was to his daughter already.
"yeahh, hehe," she giggled at the thought of Suna. Osamu had overheard a conversation between you and his daughter the other night. After a game night with old inarizaki team members your daughter went on and on about how "pretty" suna was and how he's such a prince. Yeah prince my ass. Every time he comes over she'll run to him and hold on to his shirt for the whole night. NEVER leaving his side. Which suna didn't mind until he wanted to smoke.
Walking in behind your daughter you immediately see Osamu's sour face. She must have already told him that you guys ran into Suna. Yes he was your husbands best friend but Osamu had always been a little stubborn and protective when it came to his girls. Picking her up you lifted her over the counter and halfway switched her to Osamu's arms so she could give him a hug. If there was one thing about your daughter that didn't make any sense was how much of chatter box she was. Both you and osamu barely talked, often communicating though looks and gestures, but she was a miya after all.
"and daddy he looked so handsome," At that she lifted her hands off of her father's shoulders and moved them over her eyes kicking her legs in the process. You could tell he was angry because she was kicking him in the tummy but all that anger washed away when he looked at her again. Asking her calmly to calm down she listened and put her head on his dad's shoulder. Turning around she immediately perked up when she saw familiar sharp eyes walking though the door. She squealed in delight before Osamu could even turn around and utter out a hello.
"hi sweetpea," Suna said with a smile at the little girl. He knew she had a little crush on him and thought it was hilarious to see the anger on Osamu's face. Osamu immediately put his daughter down and told her to go to her mommy in his office. He came out from behind the counter and dragged Suna outside the restaurant to properly fight him. If there was one thing that came out of being twins with Atsumu was that he knew how to fight.
"mommmyyyyy, Dad's making the face again with his eyebrows," she then repeated the angry face with an uncanny resemblance to her father. You couldn't help but let out a little giggle because it felt like when you first met Osamu again. He was stubborn to everyone but you. Always making a srunched up face when he was or even slightly ticked off at someone, but it would always disappear the minute you showed up.
Walking out back you see the two grown men fighting each other and just stood on one of the steps with your arms crossed and one eyebrow raised. As if he could sense your presence Osamu immediately pushed Suna off of him and began to apologize to you for acting immature.
"simp," Suna said with his a slight bruise forming on his cheek bone.
"no!" the power Osamu's no held was unlike anything else. From years of managing his restaurant and having Atsumu as a brother he's learn to be very stern and be very powerful with his words, but of course he could never say no to you.

8:34 PM
in hindsight, there’s no other person you can blame for your current heartbreak but yourself.
if only…
if only you were honest, maybe things would have gone differently.
if only you were honest to yourself and to the people around you, maybe you wouldn’t have to sit through this dinner with a forced smile while you watch suna rintarou hold hands with a girl who isn’t you.
DENY
you’ve always liked suna rintarou. your sister knew it, your friends outside of volleyball club knew it. hell, you reckon that even your parents knew it.
yet you always deny, deny, deny. especially to your close friends and neighbors, atsumu and osamu. you’ve known the twins since you were all children and have seen how they fell in love with volleyball; they even managed to recruit you as a manager for their volleyball team once you all entered inarizaki high.
it goes to say, you ended up becoming friends with the then new-to-town suna rintarou. the twins always made it a point to tease you to him but you were the maser of denial.
sometimes, you think you’re even able to deny to yourself that you like suna as more than just a friend.
that is, until hani nakamura entered the picture.
she was a grade younger, known for her intellect and beauty. even boys from other schools wait for her outside of inarizaki’s gates in the hopes of getting to know her. you’ve managed to befriend her when you both got seats in the student council during your sophomore year.
she’s a sweet person. president of her class, eldest daughter in the family, and a part of the youth council at church. it’s a running joke in the student council how she must have more than 24 hours in a day to be able to manage everything she’s involved in.
you genuinely liked her nice personality and almost everyone will agree that finding something to dislike about hani nakamura is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
“do you like someone, y/n-senpai?” she asked you one afternoon as you’re both leaving the student council room. she wasn’t in a hurry like usual days, the thursday afternoon free for her while you were running late for the volleyball club’s practice.
“that’s random!” you replied as you avoided her gaze.
“neither of the twins?” she curiously asked.
you made fake vomiting sounds. “ew, no, they’re like my brothers.”
“sorry,” she immediately said before sighing. “i’m just curious, that’s all. i mean, you being the manager of a group of athletic boys… how is it? how haven’t you developed a crush on any of them?”
the curiosity in her voice made you giggle a little. “who said i haven’t developed a crush on any of them?”
at that, hani’s face lit up. “really? who?”
and before you could think any further, you said, “you’re free this afternoon, right? why don’t you come to the gym with me?”
8:40 PM
“so,” atsumu begins with a sly smile, his face already reddening from the alcohol he’s been consuming even before the food was served. “when did it all start?”
the couple in question exchange a look and you can’t help but notice how the other people at the table coo over the action.
“she made the move first.” “he made the move first.”
suna and hani laugh after realizing what they said at the same time, earning teasing remarks from the table.
“fucking shit, suna rintarou!” atsumu suddenly yells. “stop looking like that at nakamura. you look so goddamn whipped.”
suna only rolls his eyes as he brings their intertwined hands to his lips and kisses the back of hani’s hand. “if you’re envious, just close your eyes, atsumu.”
another round of laughter.
“but seriously,” aran steers the conversation back on track. “how did it all begin?”
hani dons that sweet smile of her. “it’s all thanks to one person.”
and then you feel eyes on you as suna finishes the girl’s sentence. “yeah, thanks for bringing her to our practice that afternoon, y/n.”
LIE
“it’s number 10, right?” hani said as you both walked home after the practice ended.
you nearly tripped on your steps as you gave her a shocked look. “w-what?”
“the one you have a crush on.”
was it that obvious? you wanted to ask her but instead said, “the one i had a crush on. that was soooo last year.”
“oh. why did you stop liking him?”
you shook your head. “just because.”
“because?”
a shrug. “i don’t think it’s wise for the volleyball club manager to date one of the members. what if we fight? it can ruin the team’s dynamics.”
8:45 PM
“you know what surprises me more than the fact that you’re dating nakamura?” ginjima says as he reaches for another stick of barbecue. “it’s the fact that as it turns out, you’re interested in dating, after all.”
a murmur of agreement from the other team members. suna suppresses a roll of his eyes. “did i ever give off the energy that i’m not interested in dating?”
“yes,” one of the freshmen answers a little too quickly, making everyone laugh with the exception of you. sure, other times you would have let out a few giggles as well but a bad feeling was stirring in your stomach, having a guess on which direction the conversation is heading.
“ah, i can’t actually blame you. i mean, we mostly see each other in the gym and court where there are no potential love interests to be seen.”
you feel osamu shoot a quick glance at your direction as you try your best to stop the frown from forming on your face.
as if the night couldn’t get even worse.
not only did suna announce he’s dating one of your friends, but he also confirmed the thing you’ve been trying not to think of all this time: for the past two years as friends, you often wondered why suna never dated anyone and never acted on the small hints and opportunities you’ve been dropping ever since you realized you liked him as more than just a friend. you concluded that maybe, romance is the least of his priorities.
but his answer just now, and the fact that he’s proudly holding hands with hani in front of the team, splashes the ice cold truth on you: it’s not that he wasn’t interested in dating; it’s just that he wasn’t interested in dating you.
suddenly, you feel like leaving dinner. your mind scrambles to find an excuse to leave but all you can think of is: suna is holding hani’s hand. suna who acts as if he cares about nothing is holding hands with a girl in front of the whole volleyball team. suna is dating hani. suna’s heart belongs to a girl who isn’t you.
and it’s suffocating. you want to at least go to the rest room but you’re glued to your seat, as if the heavy feeling in your chest has planted you on the spot with no chance of moving.
instead, more thoughts flood your mind: what if you had been honest with yourself earlier? what if you never denied to the twins that you like suna? would they have made a way for suna to see you in a different light? what if you were honest instead to hani and didn’t tell her that you no longer liked suna? would she have had second thoughts about dating him? what if you had tried to be as perfect as–
“y/n,” osamu’s voice breaks you out of your thoughts. you look to your right and see him standing next to your seat. “you look unwell. do you want me to drive you home?”
8:59 PM
“i won’t ask anything but you can cry now. i’ll just drive and let you be.”
you close your eyes and let the tears fall. silent, at first, until choked up sobs escape your lips and your body is shaking and you try not to curl in onto yourself but your chest physically hurts that you mindlessly lift your knees to your chest and cry and cry and cry and cry because you know you’ll never be able to call suna rintarou “yours” despite your heart only belonging to him.

Yandere - Knife play, blood kink - Suna Rinatro
Tumblr media
“Do you have any idea how much I love you?” Suna asked the naked and tied up Y/n below him. Suna was holding a large Chef’s knife in his hand. “Do you know how much I do for you? I love you, and no one can ever love you like I love you.” The sharp edge on the knife now lightly pressing into her stomach. “So why the FUCK did you kiss Atsumu tonight?”
“He- he kissed me.” She said through tears. He snickered at her response.
Indeed it was Atsumu who kissed her on a drunken dare from his twin brother. They were all having a reunion dinner at Suna and Y/n’s house. The old Inarizaki team was down in Shizuoka City to see one of his games. Atsumu always had a thing for Y/n and Suna knew this, heck everyone in their school knew it. But Suna had a thing for Y/n too.
He was much more secretive with his love for her though. One day he overheard the twins talking about how Atsumu was going to confess to Y/n later that day. Suna was taken aback as he thought he had more time.
Suna was quick to come up with a plan.Y/n always had a thing for cheesy romance movies, so he wrote her a confession letter. He left it anonymous and asked her to meet him at lunch under the cherry blossoms out back. While she was going outside to meet Suna, Atsumu was making plans of his own to confess.
Suna was waiting for Y/n nervously. Suna stood with his back to the school, hands deep in his pocket.
“Suna?” Y/n’s voice rang out.
“Y/n.” He smiled as he turned around.
“Did you write the letter? It was really sweet.” She smiled at him.
“I did.” He said shyly. “I’ve wanted to confess for a while, but I’ve been a little scared.” He was playing into one of her favorite romance scenes from her favorite movie she made the team watch often with her.
“It’s so weird to see you all nervous.” She laughed.
“You make me nervous.” He shrugged.
“I accept your confession, Suna.”
“Call me Rintaro.” He smiled. He walked up close to her and pulled her in for a soft kiss.
The two walked back inside the school hand in hand. Atsumu and Osamu were standing in the doorway.
“What’s going on here?” Atsumu asked.
“Rintaro confessed to me.” Y/n said.
“He did, did he?” Osamu asked.
Atsumu held a grudge for Suna for a couple weeks, but moved on rather quickly. Finding a girlfriend was easy for Atsumu.
It wasn’t until years later y/n found out, it was actually at the party Suna was holding for the old Inarizaki team. A drunked Atsumu approached Y/n.
“You know Y/n, I’ve always had a thing for ya.” He slurred, “Samu told me I should do this.” He pulled her in locking lips together.
Suna walked into the room just at that moment.
“What the fuck are you doing to my girlfriend? “
“Doing what I should have done years ago, Rinn.” Atsumu slurred.
“Get the FUCK out of my house!” He screamed.
Osamu grabbed Atsumu’s arm and began to drag him from the house.
“Rin it’s not what it looked like. He kissed me.. I swear.’ Y/n was on the verge of tears as she could see the anger resinanting off him.
“Go to our room and get naked.”
She figured he just wanted to fuck away the anger like he usually did. She rushed into the bedroom and stripped down, climbing on the bed. Suna was looking through the kitchen drawers. He grabbed something and put it behind his back. He placed the object in the hallway on the table outside the bedroom door.
He walked into the bedroom. He started to go through the bedside drawer. He pulled out some rope.
“Are you going to accept your punishment?” Suna asked.
Y/n nodded her head. Suna climbed up on the bed on top of Y/n. He tired her wrists up super tight.
“Rin, it’s really tight. Can you loosen it a little bit?” Y/n asked.
“No, you deserve this.” He snapped.
Y/n felt the tears begin to fall.
Suna went to her feet and began to tie up her ankles. She tried to kick her off as she trashed her legs around. He was quick to grab them and shove them underneath his body. He tied them up as she cried out for him to stop.
Suna smiled down at his work as he got off the bed and grabbed the object from the table in the doorway.
“What- what are you doing?” Y/n asked hiccuping.
Suna just laughed as he pulled out the knife from behind his back. He slowly slid it along her stomach. She cried and whimpered. He began to press harder as blood began to slowly trickle out. He laughed as he began to write something on her stomach. She screamed out in agony as he continued.
After a few minutes, he was done. He pulled the knife back looking at his masterpiece. He tossed the knife aside and wiped the blood that was flowing aside. Property of Suna Rintaro, it read. He smiled at her.
“I’m all done baby, your punishment is over, so let's get to the good part.” He snickered.
He ran his blood covered hand over her pussy to her clit. He began to rub it slowly.Y/n let out a small moan. Suna already had his cock out and he lined it up at the entrance. He pushed in and began to move faster. He was moaning out and calling Y/n’s name.
“Baby fuck, your pussy is so tight for me.” He moved the blood covered hand up to her throat and began to apply pressure.
“R-rin.” She said barely audibly.
“I’m close baby, don’t worry.” He grunted.
It wasn’t long after he released his load inside her. He moved off her and rolled to the side.
“I’m going to take a shower now, but you will stay here a little long to think about what you’ve done.” Suna said.

Giggles
word count; 610 – gn!reader, fluff
Tumblr media
“Hey, guys! Good game the other day.” The second years at Inarizaki were all having lunch together when you passed by their table. You usually talked to them when passing by, but it always annoyed you how they all knew something you didn’t and you could see it in their smiles.
“Thanks!” Ginjima said before stuffing his mouth full of rice.
“Doubt you were watching any of us, though,” Atsumu teased with the most agitating smirk on his face. You rolled your eyes and turned to his twin instead.
“Where’s Suna?” you asked, trying to act like it was a casual question. You even used his family name, unsure if it was the proper setting to use his given name like he said you could.
“He had to get something from his locker, he’ll probably be here soon,” Osamu answered with a mouth full of food. Your face twisted in mock disgust.
“Aha, okay. Enjoy your lunch,” you said a bit sarcastically and then wished them goodbye before skipping away to find your friends.
Atsumu mumbled about how he knew you only came to see Suna and lifted his phone as you walked away, wanting to film a cute little video of you that he could send to Suna to tease him, but then the most magical thing happened at the perfect time.
Atsumu has been subject to Suna’s constant video evidence more times than he can count, but he never could have imagined a better revenge than getting a video of Suna giggling from talking to his crush.
When you were almost at your friends’ table, your eyes met Suna’s. He had just come into the cafeteria and gladly stopped to talk to you. His usually bored eyes seemed slightly more awake now, and all the other second years on the volleyball team were watching in amusement after Atsumu pointed it out, not making a sound so it wouldn’t affect his video.
And they’re all shocked to bits when you say something with a grin on your face and they can faintly hear a sound they never thought Suna was able to produce.
Suna Rintaro giggled.
They could all see that he noticed it himself, clearing his throat and turning away from you, only to spot his supposed friends holding their laughter. That was enough to activate his flight response, so he smiled at you before excusing himself. You stood there for a moment and looked at his back, confused as to why he was walking away so briskly. With a shrug, you finally go back to your friends.
Suna did the same, but there were no more giggles as he was practically choking Atsumu while he tried to pass the phone to someone else for protection, doing his best to press the lock button as well so Suna couldn’t access it even if he grabbed it. The ruckus kept going and when more people started staring, they finally heard a stern voice that sent chills down their backs. “Boys.”
Oh no. Kita.
Safe to say Suna had to let it go for now, trying to threaten Atsumu that he shouldn’t mess with his blackmail folder but only getting a satisfied smirk in return.
“Don’t worry, loverboy.” Ginjima interrupted the stare-down they had after Suna finally sat down and Kita walked off. Suna’s sharp eyes moved to him instead, then behind him where you sat a couple of tables away. The second he saw you, your head seemed to turn away, as if he caught you staring. “They’ve been watching you with heart eyes ever since you started attacking Tsumu, I don’t think a little giggle can deter them.”

TRAINING WHEELS
CHAPTER FOUR | THE START OF SOMETHING NEW
ao3 I series masterlist | previous chapter I next chapter
five years ago, you stupidly had a fling with inarizaki athlete, miya atsumu- now, present day- he had a son he knew nothing about. you made sure it was going to stay that way, but as fate would have it, he unexpectedly stumbled back into your lives, now as volleyball's biggest star.
wc & notes: 9.5k words (i am FRIED) — they said it couldn’t be done, but consider the “doesn’t update anymore” allegations BEAT. longer writers note on ao3 LMAO. pls enjoy and ignore any errors i am dying guys
Tumblr media
“I can’t believe you never told me!”
You tossed a bag of apples into the grocery cart.
“You knew I had a crush on Miya Atsumu ever since I saw him shirtless on last year’s Vogue Japan cover! How could you not say anything?!”
You pretended to inspect a carrot thoroughly. Naomi wasn’t convinced. She knew you didn’t even like carrots.
“Were you ever going to tell me?”
You started pushing the cart faster.
“Well, if you’re not going to answer, can you at least tell me if he was good in bed?”
The grocery cart came to a screeching halt as your eyes widened like saucers. The piercing sound made both of you wince as the supermarket stocker dropped a handful of vegetables from shock. You hurriedly scurried away to another section of the grocery store while Naomi trailed after you.
“I take that as a yes?” Naomi chuckled nervously. You stared daggers at her before your friend took the silent hint to shut up.
“Naomi,” you sighed, continuing through the snacks aisle. “It’s not exactly easy telling people the father of your son is Japan’s biggest athlete. Don’t take it the wrong way, I never meant for anyone to find out,”
“But you can see how that played out,” you continued trying to avoid making a grimace, but your face couldn’t help it.
Naomi nodded quietly. “I’m sorry for prying.”
“It’s alright,” you rolled your eyes. “And yes, he was good. Though, it was in a bathroom.”
Naomi let out a shriek that sounded vaguely like your name as you continued through the grocery store.
It’s odd, you thought, your world was flipped upside down and nobody would be none the wiser. The past twenty four hours was whiplashing. Not only had your past fling turned volleyball superstar, not to mention the father of your child, reappeared in your life, he was here to stay. You had always assumed if your dirty little secret were to get out, the floodgates would wash your carefully constructed life away and that nothing would be the same. And in a way, it was, but there you were, grocery shopping with Naomi on a quiet Tuesday morning like nothing had happened.
You could still hardly believe it, honestly. The moment you realized you were going to be a mother five years ago, you imagined that the rest of your life after you looked at that positive pregnancy test would be without him. You assumed that he would prioritize his budding career, his passion for volleyball, above you. You were just some girl he had a fling with after all. Why would he throw away the promising life he had for you? But, for reasons you couldn’t fathom, he ended up choosing to stay. And willingly. He could’ve walked out the moment he stepped foot into Onigiri Miya, but he didn’t.
It made you wonder, would he have made the same decision five years ago? To stay? Would things have been different now if you had him by your side then?
Did you make a mistake not telling him all those years ago?
Naomi’s voice broke your thoughts. “How’s your baby daddy doing with the whole ‘new parent’ thing anyway?”
You instinctively cringed. “Please never call him that again.”
“Well, what else would I call him?”
You rolled your eyes as you tossed a bag of Haru’s favorite chips into the cart.
“Well, all things considered, he’s doing okay. I think.”
You weren’t really sure, typically, one doesn’t have a secret family pop up from nowhere.
“And how are you doing with your baby daddy?” Naomi continued.
You ignored the nickname, much to your dismay, you guessed it wasn’t going anywhere soon. You thought back to the question for several moments, but there just wasn’t anything that could begin to describe what on earth was going on in your mind.
“I don’t know,” you stated simply. “It’s weird knowing he’s going to be around, I guess.”
“Weird?” Naomi repeated, tilting her head. “I thought it was a good thing?”
“It definitely is,” you replied, before sighing. “I just… don’t know how to be around Atsumu.”
You never meant for him to be in your life in the first place, so you weren’t sure where he was going to fit now that he was in it, for better or for worse.
“Well, I’m sure he’s feeling the same way too,” Naomi reassured. “Maybe you should bring up spending more time with one another. Get to know each other, y’know?”
You paused, maybe that wasn’t a half bad idea. You pushed your cart to the checkout lane.
Tumblr media
Despite Atsumu having an early morning the next day, he didn’t sleep the entire night after returning home from your apartment. And who could blame him? He had too much to think about. On the bright side, he had an early start to his morning unlike the day before. He thought that maybe by being earlier for practice he would get out of his coach’s scolding, but Coach Foster was already waiting for him at the gymnasium despite him arriving a whole hour early.
“You better have a good explanation for running out on practice yesterday, especially with the start of the season so close!” Coach Foster scowled with his arms crossed the moment Atsumu sheepishly walked into the gymnasium.
Atsumu sucked in his teeth and hoped he would believe the events of the prior night. Guess he would just have to find out…
Five minutes later, inside one of the secluded offices inside the gymnasium and away from prying ears, Coach Foster’s jaw was hanging open in a mixture of shock, horror, and disbelief. Truthfully, he considered filing for early retirement right then and there.
“You’re telling me you have a son?” Coach Foster asked in a hushed whisper. Atsumu nodded and the man gave a heavy sigh as he rubbed his temples.
“Honestly, Atsumu…”
Coach Foster sighed deeply as he rubbed his temples. In his time as a professional sports coach, he had seen his fair share of scandals amongst his athletes, but this one might’ve taken the cake. Initially, he hadn’t believed him, chalking it up to one of his usual pranks, but Atsumu’s conviction was deathly serious. Not to mention the picture he handed him was jarring. The boy looked just like him.
“I hope that you know what a massive responsibility this is,” Coach Foster said, beginning his lecture. He was honestly still in disbelief over the news his setter broke to him. And honestly, he was debating if what he was hearing was even true, picture or not.
“I didn’t have my first child until I was in my thirties, you’re still only twenty-three, and not to mention still a little immature–”
“I’m gonna be a part of his life no matter what,” Atsumu stated firmly, cutting him off.
Usually he knew better than speaking against his senior, but he quickly came to his own defense.
“I wasn’t there in the beginnin’, so I’m gonna make up for lost time and be there for Haru.”
The Coach was taken aback by Atsumu’s tone, before shaking his head with a chuckle. He had known the setter for some quite some time, being there to see the progression of his career from when he started the league until now. He had never quite taken the young setter seriously when it came to real life experiences, he was still so young after all, but he would almost say he was proud of Atsumu for stepping up. But time would tell if he could fill in the shoes of a father.
“I believe in you,” Foster simply said. “But this does raise a few issues though.”
“Like what?”
“Well, we are going to have to talk to the PR team about this. You’re one of Japan’s most famous athletes right now, and you have paparazzi hounding your every move. It would probably be in the best interest of your son and the mother to stay under the radar until you find a way to announce this publicly without sparking controversy, which is already difficult enough considering the circumstances.”
Atsumu thought silently. In the midst of all the chaos, he hadn’t thought yet how his career could negatively affect you and Haru. He wasn’t sure how he would handle it yet, but he could feel a protective surge in his chest.
“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure this is handled discreetly,” Coach Foster said.
Atsumu thanked the man, before being instructed to return to practice. As the door closed, Coach Foster sighed deeply, he sure had his work cut out for him.
As Atsumu entered the gym, he was almost immediately bombarded by his teammates. Bokuto and Hinata practically tackled him down the moment he stepped into practice.
“”Tsumu! Where’d you go last night?” Bokuto exclaimed, appearing at his side. “I wanted to practice my spikes with you!”
“Coach was mad,” Hinata shivered beside him. “He said he’d make you run triple the amount of laps today–” Atsumu gulped at the thought of the coach’s training being even more intensive than it already was.
“”Samu had a problem at the restaurant and needed some help,” Atsumu replied as nonchalantly he could. It wasn’t entirely false but it sure as hell wasn’t a good lie either. But before Hinata and Bokuto could press more, Coach Foster bounded out of his office.
“Enough small talk! We need to start our warm ups.” Coach Foster announced. Atsumu nearly sighed in relief, until he realized he was probably going to be worked to the bone.
The rest of practice went on as usual, except for Coach Foster making the session more grueling for Atsumu in particular. He bit back his complaints, already knowing this wouldn’t be the last of his coach’s discipline for him. He probably deserved it, anyway.
Later, after a practice what Atsumu could only call torturous, Coach Foster blew his whistle and beckoned the team over.
“It seems I have an unexpected meeting with the PR representatives,” Coach Foster announced, “so we’re going to call off practice early today!”
Atsumu caught a glare from Coach Foster that could unmistakably only be meant for him. He hoped nobody else caught it or the fact his face was mortified, but thankfully everybody else on the team seemed too busy celebrating the abrupt end to practice.
“Take the rest of the day to recover, that’s all!”
Atsumu practically felt the weight on his shoulders dissipate as he headed for the lockerroom. His bones were aching at that point, and the only thing he wanted to do was collapse onto one of the benches. He went into his locker and dug his phone out of his practice bag. Going through his notifications, he was surprised to see his first message was from you.
You (12:35pm):
hey, how do you feel about spending more time together?
You (12:35pm):
to get used to being around each other i mean
You (12:36pm):
sorry, i don’t really know how to go about this
You (12:37pm):
my bad, you’re busy at practice probably
You (12:37pm):
sorry, just ignore this
He quickly wrote back.
Atsumu (12:45pm):
nono, don’t worry, i just got out of practice actually
Atsumu (12:45pm):
i don’t how to go about this either, but i would love to spend more time with ya and haru
Exhaustion long forgotten, Atsumu grabbed his bag and headed out of the gym with a noticeable smile on his face.
Tumblr media
You groaned as you slumped down on the staircase of your apartment complex. Of course the elevator decided to go out of service when you had an entire weeks worth of groceries to bring up. You barely had made it up to floor three before you decided to give up. Now, you were collapsed onto the step of the stairs surrounded by what seemed to be an endless sea of bags. How were you going to make it up another seven flights?
You heard footsteps behind you, presumably from someone who was also inconvenienced by the lack of elevators.
“Sorry,” you groaned as you got to your feet as you collected up one of the bags. “I was just taking a break from taking up these damn groceries–”
“Do ya need help?” You perked up, you certainly weren’t in a position to say no.
You looked up to thank the stranger for their offer and are met with Atsumu instead. Miya Atsumu, who definitely doesn’t live in your building.
What on earth?-- Oh no. Oh no. He thought your message about spending more time together meant today. You were so caught up in bringing up your groceries that you hadn’t bothered to check your phone to see his response.
You were suddenly all too aware of the sweatpants you haphazardly threw on and the shirt you’re pretty sure Haru stained with paint from his fingerpainting phase last month. You won’t even begin on whatever hairstyle you haphazardly did this moring. You were under the impression that all you were doing was going to the supermarket with Naomi so you didn’t bother getting properly dressed. Now you were standing infront of him a sweaty mess as he looks as if he just walked off a magazine shoot with his fresh-out-of-a-workout glow, designer tracksuit, and practice bag swung effortlessly over his shoulder.
“Hey!” You quickly said, not prepared to greet him as you clutched tightly onto the bag full of produce in your hands. “I didn’t– uh– expect you to come today.”
Atsumu’s eyebrows creased in confusion before the realization flashed on his face.
“Oh! Ya meant for that message to be in general.” Atsumu exclaimed, and he looked noticeably embarrassed. “Sorry, I just thought–”
“Nono!” You stammered, trying to collect yourself. “It’s okay, I’m off today anyways. Besides, I need help with these bags.” Atsumu cracked a smile at you before reaching down to grab a handful of bags, which was alot more than you could carry by yourself.
“Here, let me take these too,” he offered, extending his hands out to take the bag in your hands.
“You don’t have to take them all, y’know,” you replied. The poor man already had about four in his arms already. Though, he was carrying the heavy bags without even straining himself, unlike yourself. A rigorous workout schedule would do that, you suppose
“Consider this the first of many repayments,” he chuckled as he took a bag out of your hands. You felt yourself tense when you felt his fingers skim over your hand, and you had to clutch onto the bag tighter for it not to tumble out of your hands.
You forgot about how stupidly charming he was. It’s what got you into this mess in the first place.
Once you both situated yourselves, you lugged up the stairs and finally reached your apartment. You were noticeably more out of breath than Atsumu was, who didn’t seem to break a sweat despite carrying up twice the amount of bags you did.
“I guess all that professional athlete training came in handy,” you snorted as you went to unlock the door.
“Coach made sure to put me through it this mornin’ for the stunt I pulled yesterday,” he chuckled. “Guess it was good trainin’ for carryin’ up all these bags.”
“I guess I’ll have to keep you around for my next grocery trip,” you snickered as you placed your bags in the kitchen as Atsumu followed.
“I’ll be here for as many trips as ya need.”
The comment was meant to be innocent, but it nearly made you stop in your tracks. You knew he was here to stay from your conversation the night before, but hearing him affirm it was unexpected. It still hadn’t sunk in yet. A day ago, Miya Atsumu was a distant memory, and today he was standing in your kitchen helping you bring in groceries. Would you ever get used to this?
“Where’s Haru?” Atsumu asked, looking around to see no trace of the small boy.
“School,” you answered as you began to unpack the bags onto your counter. “I have a few hours until I have to go pick him up if you wanna join me.”
“Of course,” he replied with a quick eagerness, “what do ya wanna do until then?”
Shit, you didn’t think about the fact you would be with Atsumu alone for the time being.
Alone. With your ex-fling.
Who you refused to admit is starting to make your heart beat a little faster.
Suppressing any of the silly leftover schoolgirl feelings you still harbored, you reminded yourself that Atsumu was kind out of courtesy of the situation between you two. You two are still strangers, fling aside.
Before you could open your mouth to answer, your stomach decided to interrupt the conversation with a undeniable grumble. You immediately grabbed your stomach in attempt to silence it, but there was no way Atsumu didn’t hear it. Your face flushed, and you regretted sleeping in and deciding to skip breakfast that morning.
“I think that means ya want lunch.” You wanted the earth to swallow you whole.
“I’m mortified, but that sounds great right about now,” you nervously laughed. “I can cook us something–”
“I can’t let ya cook, it’s yer day off!” Atsumu interjected as if he were offended you would suggest such an idea. “C’mon, let me take ya out.”
“Atsumu, I look like a mess right now,” you chuckled, looking down at your clothes. “I don’t think–”
“Ya look great so that’s not an excuse,” he interjected and you’re taken aback from the sudden compliment. Surely you couldn’t look that great with your old college t-shirt decorated in paint splatters. But Atsumu looked adamant in his statement with the way he was staring you down.
“C’mon, it doesn’t have to be anythin’ fancy,” he insisted. “We could just go to Osamu’s, on me.”
Your stomach was practically begging for attention at that point and you groaned, knowing it was too good an offer to pass down. Not to mention, you couldn’t keep holding eye contact with him without melting onto the floor. It’s almost intimidating, the way he won’t back down.
“Alright, alright, but let me change at least.”
“Good,” Atsumu grinned as you scurried off into your bedroom.
You quickly got changed into a pair of jeans and the first decent shirt you spotted in your closet. It’s simple, but a pretty shade of green with a flattering neckline. You knew the lunch wasn’t going to be anything fancy, but it didn’t stop you from putting on the jewelry you had sitting on your dresser and swiping on some lip gloss. You gave yourself a quick look in the mirror, not bad in ten minutes.
You headed back to the kitchen where you left Atsumu, who was sitting at the counter as he absentmindedly scrolled on his phone.
“C’mon Miya, you owe me lunch,” you chimed as you grabbed your keys off the table.
Atsumu looked up and you swore he opened up his mouth to say something, but immediately clammed up.
“What is it?” You asked, tilting your head. He suddenly seemed nervous, which was a stark difference from his calm demeanor not even a second ago.
“Ya– uh– just look nice, let’s go.”
Before you could react, Atsumu was already heading for the door.
Stupidly and annoyingly charming.
You hoped this meal wouldn’t be the death of you.
The elevators seemed to be back in service as Atsumu had already called it up by the time you locked the door and made your way to him down the hall.
It’s just lunch, you had to tell yourself as you both got inside quietly. Don’t be so nervous. But it didn’t stop your hands from fidgeting as you watched the elevator floor level slowly descend down before dinging at the first floor.
You both exited and you barely made it a few steps out the front door before you heard the beep of a car. You turned beside you to spot arguably the flashiest sports car you’ve ever seen parked next to your quaint apartment building. It seemed as though it came right from the dealership with it’s perfect white paint job and bright gleam. It couldn’t belong to anyone but the professional athlete himself beside you. That V-League paycheck must be cushy.
“Wow.” It was pretty much all you could say.
“I got it when I first went pro,” he chuckled as he brought you to the passenger side. “Kind of an impulsive decision.”
You snorted as he opened the door for you and let you inside. “I thought this lunch was supposed to be casual.”
“As casual as it can be, considerin’ the circumstances,” he said as he got into the drivers seat and you rolled your eyes. Right, nothing about this was casual.
“I probably gotta get somethin’ different soon though,” he noted as he turned on the engine and the car revved to life.
“Why’s that?”
“Not enough room for a carseat in the back,” he responded simply as he pulled the car out. “Or would it be a booster seat? I’m not really sure.”
You were taken aback. “You already thought of that?--”
“‘Course I did,” Atsumu replied like it was the simplest thing in the world. “Thought ‘bout it on my way over here.”
You knew Atsumu was serious when he said he wanted to make a commitment, but you just didn’t think he’d be ready for change so quickly. If he was already thinking about getting a whole new car just for the sake of a booster seat, what else was he ready to change? Co-parenting wasn’t something you ever considered, much less planned for. You shook it off, knowing you were getting ahead of yourself. Right now was just lunch, and that was all. You busied yourself with looking out the window as you watched the streets go by.
“How long have ya been in Osaka?” He asked, eyes focused on the road.
“A little before Haru was born,” you answered. “Before that I lived with my grandmother in Kagawa before she passed, and after that I moved to Osaka because I knew their university had a babysitting service for parents getting their degrees.”
“So about five years?”
“Just about, why do you ask?”
“I’ve been in Osaka since I went pro after high school…” Atsumu mumbled and there’s a noticeable regret in his tone. “I just can’t believe I never knew ya were here.”
“Atsumu, don’t beat yourself up,” you sighed, looking away from the window and back at him. “It’s an enormous city and I was purposefully avoiding you the entire time.”
Though you tried to reassure him, his demeanor was still crestfallen as he drove.
“Y’know, I even avoided sports stores because I was scared I’d run into you there. Haru’s gym teacher hates me because I never get his uniforms on time.”
The last line made Atsumu snort and you’re glad he didn’t seem as dejected. “And what if I was there?”
“I actually had to go last month to pick up sneakers for Haru,” you rolled your eyes. “They had a lifesize cardboard display of you and I thought it was actually you. I ran away so quickly the cashier thought I was a thief.”
You manage to get a smile to crack through Atsumu after all. You realize you eventually made it to Osamu’s restaurant as Atsumu parked beside it. Before you could even manage to open your door, Atsumu had already made it to the passenger door outside and opened it for you.
“You know you don’t need to do that,” you chuckled as you climbed out.
“Nah, but I wanna.”
Your heart needed to stop doing whatever the hell it was doing in your chest.
It seemed like you weren’t going to win as Atsumu made sure to open the restaurant door for you as well. You walked inside as the bell chimed on the door as you spotted Osamu behind the front counter.
“Could ya please stop coming in here durin’ my breaktime?!” Osamu barked as he tossed the towel strewn over his shoulder directly at his brother’s head. “I need to start lockin’ the damn doors because of ya!”
“How else can I eat in privacy?” Atsumu whined, grabbing the towel off his face. “I haven’t recovered from the time the tabloids posted all those pictures of me eatin’ your onigiri!”
“It’s because ya ate eight in one sittin’!” Osamu exclaimed, before noticing you standing behind Atsumu. He immediately composed himself from his previous hostility. “Oh, I didn’t realize ya were here.”
“Hi,” you waved meekly. “Sorry for coming in, I had no idea you were on break.”
Osamu scratched the back of his head, slightly embarrassed. “No worries, I’m used to this moron bargin’ in here anyways. Take a seat and I’ll fix ya somethin’.”
You both got sat in one of the nearby booths as Osamu got you settled before heading into the back kitchen to get started on cooking. The restaurant was empty, and you realized Atsumu’s habit of coming in during Osamu’s breaktime was probably so he could eat in privacy.
“Oi, ‘Samu!” Atsumu called into the nearby kitchen. “Make some extra gyoza!”
“Oh, that’s my favorite!” You exclaimed. You were practically starving at this point, so the mention of the food made your mouth water.
“Ya always packed some for lunch back in high school, right?” Atsumu noted. It was true, if you didn’t pack any from home, you would sneak out to the convenience store to buy some instead.
“How on earth do you remember that?” You snorted. His memory was spot-on, especially since high school felt like eons ago.
Atsumu shrugged. “Dunno.”
“Is your favorite food still tuna?”
“How’d ya know that?” Atsumu asked, noticeably surprised, as if he didn’t remember the detail about you moments ago.
“Haru eats it all the time, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree apparently,” you replied, rolling your eyes. “He’s like a mini you.”
Atsumu smiled softly and looked at his hands placed onto the table. He was fiddling with his fingers, roughed up probably from all the time he played volleyball. He seemed nervous.
“He is?” He said, almost shyly. Not like the typically confident guy he was.
“Yup,” you answered, resting your hand on your face. “Earlier when you were bickering with Osamu, it reminds me of when Haru starts to whine.”
“Really?” He asked excitedly, before his face flashed with realization. “Wait, hey!--”
You laughed as Atsumu scoffed but it seemed more like a pout with the way he jutted out his lip and furrowed his eyebrows. It made you think about how uncanny the two looked. You couldn’t help but smile as Atsumu turned back to you, his face still a bit peeved at your earlier jab.
“I still feel like I don’t know enough about ya still,” Atsumu noted.
You paused. Five years of avoidance would do that… But now it was different. You didn’t have to force the distance anymore unlike before.
“That doesn’t matter, does it? We aren’t in a rush to.”
Atsumu smiled at you again and you felt your heart still. “No, we’re not.”
Whenever he looked at you, you became acutely aware just how present Atsumu was. It almost didn’t seem real. He wasn’t just some image you saw from afar, like interviews on TV or in magazines you saw at the convenience store. And somehow, he wasn’t leaving or running away like you thought he would be. Nothing was separating you, he was infront of you and here with you.
And as happy as it made you, it scared you just as much.
“You haven’t told me anything about yourself,” you noted, wanting to change the topic. “I feel like I’m doing all the talking here.”
Atsumu shrugged. “My life’s pretty much an open book, what do ya wanna know?”
Atsumu was right, he was in the limelight even before he went pro. Anything you wanted to know about him was probably written somewhere online by fans or reporters. You remembered that back in high school, he was already getting recognized by national recruiters, not to mention having an army of fangirls. You vaguely remembered them giving you– and any other girl– shit for even breathing in his general direction, you couldn’t imagine what they would have done to you had they known you both were secretly hooking up. You weren’t sure how Atsumu always kept his composure despite majority of his life being constantly under a microscope.
You, for one, wouldn’t know how to handle it, and it was partially the reason you hid from him for so long. You wondered how long you could hide from the watchful eyes on Atsumu. At some point, they would be on you.
“Is it hard?” You blurted out.
Atsumu paused at your sudden statement. “What is?”
Maybe it wasn’t appropriate for you to be asking something personal for what was supposed to be a casual luncheon, but it the question already came out of your mouth.
“Being famous. Doesn’t it get tiring having to be watched all the time?”
You half expected Atsumu to crack some wise joke about how he was meant to be famous, his boisterous confidence was undoubtedly star-material after all, but he paused again. You noticed him looking at the wall behind you, and you turned over your shoulder to spot a picture frame hung up. It was a picture of his high school team, with Atsumu front and center with his usual plastered grin.
“Yeah, I think it does sometimes.”
You wanted to ask more, but you didn’t think you should. You didn’t think it was a line you should cross. At least, not yet. You were reminded of the fact you two were still practically strangers.
You had nearly forgotten you were there to eat had it not been for Osamu coming around the corner with a steaming tray of food. You barely were able to stop your mouth from salivating once Osamu placed the plates onto the table.
“This is for ya,” Osamu stated harshly, shoving what could only be a receipt into Atsumu’s face.
“What the hell are ya talkin’ about?!” Atsumu barked, snatching the paper from his brother’s hand. “What happened to my family discount?”
“She eats free, but after what ya put me through, ya pay double now.”
Atsumu couldn’t think of anything to retort as he shamefully shoved the receipt into his pocket, muttering something about his ‘good for nothin’ brother’. You couldn’t help but giggle.
Osamu turned back to you. “‘Least I can do is make ya food, so stop in anytime.”
You quickly thanked Osamu for his generous offer before he left the two of you alone in the booth.
“I should’ve bombarded into here sooner if I knew it would have gotten me free food,” you chuckled, immediately going to grab one of the various riceballs infront of you. The taste didn’t disappoint either. Osamu must’ve been a magician, because the food could’ve only been this good with the help of magic. No wonder he had rows of culinary awards plastered on his walls.
“Speakin’ of which, how on earth didn’t ya realize ‘Samu was my twin brother?” Atsumu asked, laughing. “His face didn’t ring any bells?”*
You groaned through your bite of rice. “Listen…”
The rest of your lunch carried on with less stress than you had originally imagined. You thought that underlying tension would weigh down the majority of your meeting and the rest to come, but the two of you got on so… easily. As if Atsumu wasn’t the last person you wanted to see, not even a day ago. You guessed it was from Atsumu’s obnoxiously pleasant personality, one that got you into trouble all those years ago, that made you feel so relaxed. It was a wonder how he was so easygoing in the first place, while you were still a jumbled ball of nerves.
“Should we go pick up Haru now?” Atsumu asked, nodding towards the time on the clock. It was nearing the time you were supposed to go pick him up from school.
“Yeah, but…”
You turned to look out the window of the flashy car parked outside and you grimaced. You couldn’t imagine the faces– not to mention the salacious gossip that would ensue– of the other preschool moms if you suddenly pulled up in a car worth more than your monthly rent, with a man in tow nonetheless. You already got enough shit for being a single parent, and you didn’t want to give those haughty women the idea you were somehow some sort of sugar baby too.
You looked back to Atsumu, bright-eyed and grinning a magazine-selling smile, and you realized his celebrity face was probably more conspicuous than his car.
Tumblr media
Maybe you should’ve felt bad for making Atsumu wear a face mask and park two streets away, and probably should have felt worse for having him steal the baseball cap right off of Osamu’s head before heading out, but you imagined it would have been worse if Japan’s favorite athlete was suddenly sitting beside you in a lobby full of Osaka’s most talkative housewives. While it seemed nobody had caught onto his identity since majority of his features were covered, you still caught a few of the parents glancing in your direction. Their curiosity was understandable, it was common knowledge you were on your own, so bringing a man with you was surely an eyebrow-raiser.
“That lady with the scary makeup keeps staring at me and it’s making me nervous,” Atsumu whispered in the seat beside you.
You looked in the direction he was referring to and caught one of the moms, Hitomi, staring directly at Atsumu. Her stark plum-red lipstick paired with spidery false lashes was daunting to look at. Not to mention, she had a personality to match. Her stuck-up personality had already grinded your nerves to a tipping point and the school year had barely began. Even Haru had a disdain for her daughter, Yuki, claiming she constantly hogged all the toys to herself during recess.
“Y/N, you have company today!” She chirped happily.
Translation: Who’s this man with you?
It was obvious she wanted to know who Atsumu was. Hitomi apparently didn’t have much shame as her eyes didn’t even bother to meet yours as she raked her eyes up and down Atsumu’s body. While his face wasn’t discernible though his mask, his well-built body had most of the women in the room stealing glances at him. It was obvious, even with the mask, he was definitely handsome.
You realized there were other onlookers in the room silently listening in. Hitomi was putting on a show. However, you were expecting as much.
“Ah, yes, this is my colleague from work,” you responded, hoping your lie wasn’t transparent. “We were out nearby for a meeting and he accompanied me today to come get Haru.”
“How kind of him!” She grinned. “Will we be seeing more of him?”
Translation: Is this a man in your life? A boyfriend, perhaps?
“Just for today,” you lied through an insincere smile. The entire exchange was already proving to be a headache. You were hoping that Hitomi would just give up and believe your fib that today was just an appearance from a kind coworker.
“Actually! I’m tryin’ to come more often.” Atsumu replied cheerfully beside you, breaking his silence.
You cracked your neck to him at lightning speeds and hoped nobody noticed your eyes bulging out of your head. Why on earth was he not playing along?! Forget being civil with Atsumu, you were about to strangle him infront of the entire PTA committee. All the while, he was cheerful as always.
“That’s great to hear!” Hitomi exclaimed. “Since we’ll be seeing you more often, what’s your name?”
Oh, absolutely not. If the rumor mill caught ahold of any information about Atsumu, they would be done for. Atsumu opened his mouth to respond but the door to the classrooms opened.
“Oh, the kids are done class!” You interjected loudly.
Thankfully, Haru and the rest of his class were released from their classroom and into the lobby to be picked up. Haru immediately beelined into your waiting arms and Hitomi was approached by her own daughter, interrupting the conversation.
“We’re actually in a rush now, so we’ll have to be going,” you apologized, and didn’t even wait for Hitomi to respond as you grabbed onto Haru’s hand, and grabbed onto Atsumu’s sleeve to drag them away to the front desk to sign out Haru as quickly as possible. You practically ran out of the building with both of them in tow, ignoring the many confused stares.
You collected yourselves outside on a secluded part of the street, and you almost collapsed in relief. God knows what would have happened if word got out that Miya Atsumu, of all people, was suddenly picking up your toddler.
“Mama, what’s Mister ‘Tsumu doing here?” Haru asked beside you. You were surprised Haru could recognize him with half his face and hair covered.
“How’d ya know it was me?” Atsumu chuckled, leaning down to Haru’s height and pulling down his mask to his chin.
“Only you have that weird colored hair, mister.”
Your hand immediately flew up to your face to hide your mouth as Atsumu’s face fell. A few tufts of blonde hair stuck out from the hat, seemingly giving him away.
“And mama’s only friends are you and Aunt Naomi, so–”
Now, it was Atsumu’s turn to snort as you pinched your son’s cheek softly. He whined in protest.
“Okay, that’s enough out of you,” you scolded him before turning to Atsumu. “And you, were you trying to give yourself away to the entire lobby? Hitomi’s probably gone off and told the entire neighborhood about my new coworker by now.”
You remembered the time one of the preschool moms caught you at a work dinner and assumed you were out on a date. By the next morning, the entire lobby was telling you how happy they were to ‘finally see you with a man.’
“Well, I am goin’ to be here more often now.” He shrugged nonchalantly. “So may as well tell ‘em.”
“And were you planning on telling them who you were?” You questioned raising an eyebrow, remembering how he almost answered Hitomi when she asked for his name. “What would you have done if they found out who you really were?”
Haru held onto your leg beside you as he quietly observed your conversation, probably confused on what you two could be bickering about.
He thought for a moment before his shoulders slumped. “I guess ya have a point… My coach did tell me to keep quiet for now.” So he did end up telling his coaches.
“I get that it’s important to keep my identity and all, but I guess I was just got excited about being able to be there for Haru,” he murmured. You sighed, while it was a stupid move, he did seemingly have good intentions. You probably shouldn’t have been so hard on him.
“Mama, you still haven’t told me why Mister Atsumu is here,” Haru frowned in confusion from beside you. You looked down, realizing you still hadn’t answered him. You looked back at Atsumu, still looking dejected.
“He’s here to hang out with us today,” you answered, patting his head. “And he’ll actually be coming to pick you up more often too.”
“Really?” Haru exclaimed excitedly. Atsumu looked back up, suddenly cheering up with a grin. Atsumu almost reminded you of a puppy with how quickly he could perk up after being discouraged.
“C’mon, we’re even going to go home in Mr. Atsumu’s car,” you said, leaning down beside him. “Atsumu, do you wanna show Haru the way?”
“Yeah!” He replied, almost too excitedly as he offered Haru his hand to take, his glumness now forgotten. You smiled warmly as you watched Haru accept his hand, before Atsumu led him to the car.
Tumblr media
“Haru, take off your shoes first!” You scolded the young boy as you entered your apartment. Haru, still clad in his school uniform, hurriedly tugged off his small sneakers, and immediately bounded off to the living room to catch the afternoon airing of his favorite cartoon he frequently watched after a long day of school.
“What do ya do now that Haru’s back from school?” Atsumu asked from behind you as you took off your own shoes.
“Well,” you tapped your chin. You figured it was a good start for Atsumu to know what Haru’s schedule was like. “Usually after school, I make him some lunch and he gets to have some TV time, and he usually likes watching either cartoons or volleyball.” Atsumu grinned at the second option.
“Then he does his homework, gets some free-time before dinner, then he’ll get ready for bed.”
“Since he needs to eat lunch, can I help ya?” Atsumu offered.
“Sure, I think I have the ingredients for some of his favorite noodles.”
Truthfully, Atsumu probably shouldn’t have offered. He didn’t have the heart to tell you he was an absolute shit cook, but he was desperate to help in any way he could. But how hard could it be?
Apparently, very hard.
He had cut his finger about five times now cutting a single carrot, had oil pop onto said cut, and burnt the noodles the second you handed him the pan.
Damn Osamu for taking all the cooking genetics in the womb! He cursed silently. He recalled all of his mother’s and Osamu’s fruitless cooking lessons, which all ended in failure. When he had moved out by himself to Osaka and had to feed himself, he solely relied on Osamu, takeout, or instant ramen. He was just thankful you were able to salvage the meal so that Haru miraculously had something to eat that wasn’t burnt to a crisp.
He moped quietly in the corner of the kitchen, holding onto his injured finger that was throbbing from pain, and his hands were already sore from the exhaustive setting practice he did earlier. If he was alone, he’d be waving around his battered hand and cursing up a storm.
“Let me see,” you beckoned him over. He surrendered his hand over to you in shame as you inspected his cuts and burn.
“Haru!” You called out to the boy in the living room. “Go grab the first aid kit from the bathroom, please!”
His cheeks burned in pure embarrassment. He felt like the toddler in this situation, much less a parent.
Haru, ever the responsible child, immediately got out the first aid kit upon your request. You went to grab a few bandaids and burn treatment for Atsumu to put on, but Haru tugged at Atsumu’s pants leg.
“I wanna do it!” Haru exclaimed. Atsumu realized he was referring to the bandage you were about to hand Atsumu. He looked over to you for permission before you nodded, agreeing that it was okay.
Atsumu chuckled. “‘Course, bud.”
“C’mere, I’ll show you what to do,” you told Haru, before carefully instructing him what to do with the bandaid and ointment. Now, a four year old was taking care of him by bandaging his hand. It’s laughable really, a kid, his own child at that, was able to take care of Atsumu before he could take care of him.
“All better!” Haru chirped, showing Atsumu the zoo-themed bandaids now clad on his fingers and palm.
“Ah, I’m sorry, Haru,” Atsumu sighed, rubbing over the plaster on his fingertips. “It seems I’m not a very good cook.”
“‘Tis okay,” Haru responded with a cheery smile that Atsumu thought was all too similar to yours. “I’ll still eat it!”
You ushered Haru to take his food and eat lunch, while Atsumu was still sulking in the kitchen. You couldn’t help but laugh a bit at Atsumu, he was really like a whimpering puppy.
“Don’t worry, he thinks the food is delicious.”
“Yeah, but that’s because ya fixed it,” Atsumu frowned.
You noticed he was still rubbing a hand over his burnt one, so you clasped onto his to still his anxious fidgeting.
“Haru’s not your Michelin-star brother, his taste palette is composed of dinosaur nuggets and jello. He’ll eat just about anything.” You chuckled, rubbing your hand reassuringly over his. He laughed, more so at himself than anything.
Something about being near you made him feel clumsy and nervous. While you were composed and self-assured, he was suddenly back to being the thick-headed teenager that he has desperately tried to outgrow. He wasn’t sure what happened to the polished and confident Miya Atsumu everyone knew, the one that he was so sure he’s been all this time. The star setter, the positive teammate, the Atsumu who knew what he was doing.
But he wasn’t. And it was now of all times that he needed to be that Atsumu.
The last time he felt like the shoes he were wearing were suddenly too big was when Osamu told him he wouldn’t be following him after graduation. Like then, the role he needed to fill was gaping, and it was eating him alive how he didn’t know how to be that. The guy everyone expected him to be, the Miya Atsumu everyone needed him to be, that he wanted to be.
“Y’know, one time I burnt all the cookies I made for his school bake sale,” you suddenly said.
“Huh?” He realized he had strayed too long in his thoughts.
“Haru had a big class bake sale that all the school moms were involved in,” you explained. “It was the first school event I had to work in, and I got assigned cookies. I thought it’d be a slice of cake. How hard could it be, y’know? But I was such a klutz and took a nap while they were baking. Guess I was exhausted from work. The smoke detector woke me up and our landlady was about to call the fire department.”
“Really?” Atsumu replied, a meak laugh escaping from him.
“Yup, and I didn’t have time to bake new ones so I thought I could pass off store-bought ones as homemade, but the other moms saw through my bullshit. Hitomi, the mom you met earlier, gave me an earful about it,” you snickered before looking back at him, still rubbing the pad of your thumb over the bandage across his palm.
“It’s all a learning curve, you get better at it with time. So don’t beat yourself up just because you messed up the first time, alright?”
Atsumu let out a faint chuckle before nodding. The thought of you in the same position as him reassured him somewhat. Of course he didn’t enjoy the thought of you with bandaids all over your hands like himself, but the thought that you could struggle as much as him, while still having the experience of parenthood makes him feel a little better about his lack of cooking skill. He would get it next time.
He looked back down and realized your hand was still on top of his and the blood rushed to his face embarrassingly fast. You noticed his obviously flustered expression, and jerked your hand away.
“Sorry about that–” You stammered quickly.
A string of curses slung through Atsumu’s head. He should’ve been the embarrassed one here.
“No, no, it’s alright!--” Idiot, idiot. The lingering feeling of your hand resting on his made him absentmindedly clench his hand. He tried to fight back the heat still remaining his cheeks. Why on earth was he acting like it was the first time a girl touched his hand? Maybe he was still like a stupid teenager in more ways than one.
Suddenly, your phone was buzzing on the countertop. You turned over to grab it as Atsumu caught his breath.
“Ah, it’s my boss, I should probably take this.”
Atsumu nodded. “I’ll let ya have some quiet.”
Atsumu left the kitchen so you could take your phone call in private, and noticed Haru was just about done with his food at the dining table. His head perked up noticing Atsumu come in.
“Hey mister, why are you hanging out with me and mama today?” Haru suddenly asked through a mouthful of food. “You bored with volleyball or something?”
You and Atsumu hadn’t had the chance to properly explain why he was suddenly spending more time with you both, probably because you weren’t sure how to properly explain it in the first place. Haru’s curiosity was understandable though, it wasn’t exactly ordinary that the athlete he watched on television was suddenly meandering in their apartment.
Atsumu took a seat at the table. “I guess ya could say I’m yer mom’s friend.”
That explanation would do for now, he hoped. Thankfully, it seemed like it sufficed enough for Haru as he nodded. For a four year old, he didn’t need to question the logic behind the situation.
“Okay, then do you wanna watch TV with me?” Haru asked, suddenly changing the topic.
“Sure, what do ya wanna watch?”
Haru hummed in thought, before a lightbulb went off in Atsumu’s head. You had mentioned before that Haru enjoyed volleyball, this could be a perfect bonding opportunity for him. He imagined all the cool facts and conversations they could have about the sport, maybe even Haru and him could play the sport together–
“Haru, do ya wanna watch volleyball?” Atsumu asked the child, sitting beside him at the kitchen table.
Haru took a final bite of his food.
“Nah,” Haru replied. “I wanna watch basketball.”
It was as if the blood in Atsumu’s body ran ice cold and a crack racketed through his heart. Surely what he was hearing wasn’t true.
Atsumu clutched his chest in offense before almost shrieking. “Basketball?!”
“Yeah,” Haru nodded, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“B-But,” Atsumu stammered, feeling a bit of his soul trinkle out of his body. “What’s so good about basketball?! Volleyball’s  so much cooler!”
“I started playing it during recess, and it’s so much fun!” Haru grinned, finishing the food on his plate. Before Atsumu could protest, he hopped out of his seat and headed off for the living room. Atsumu knew parenting was going to be hard, but nothing could have prepared him for this.
Atsumu followed Haru to the couch, verbally protesting the idea, but it didn’t stop Haru from grabbing the remote and turning it on to a sports channel playing the dreaded sport. Atsumu sat stiffly on the couch, accepting that he would just have to come to terms with the fact that his son hated him. Okay, he was being a little dramatic, but still! This was the utmost betrayal in his book.
“Slam dunks are so cool,” Haru cooed at the screen.
“Yeah, but service aces are alot cooler.”
For the duration of the game on television, whenever Haru would comment on the game, Atsumu was sure to follow with his own rebuttal about how volleyball was clearly the superior sport. Though, Haru didn’t pay him much mind. Atsumu was relieved when Haru finally decided to turn off the TV, finally putting an end to his impromptu torture (once again, being dramatic). He wondered how you managed to do this everyday and not be at your wits end.
Haru hopped off the couch and went to collect his backpack off the nearby table. Damn, Atsumu thought, he didn’t have to be told to do his homework. Haru must have picked that up from you, because it definitely wasn’t from him. He vaguely remembered almost having to repeat kindergarten had his mother not convinced his teachers otherwise. Mrs. Takahashi did not hold a special place in his heart. She definitely liked Osamu more than him.
“What’s yer homework, bud?” Atsumu asked, looking over the boy’s shoulder as he sat down at the coffee table with his work.
“I have an art project,” Haru explained as he unpacked his crayons. “I have to draw my family.”
Haru suddenly stuck a piece of paper infront of him, and Atsumu blinked in surprise.
“Draw with me!” He requested with a toothy smile. Why not? Atsumu shrugged before accepting the paper. Anything was better than having to watch basketball.
Atsumu was reminded that he was certainly not an artist. But he was surely better at drawing than he was at cooking. He drew something vaguely similar to a tiger– reminiscent of the stuffed toy sitting across from him on the couch, but it came out something more like a balloon animal. Next to Haru’s paper, they both were similar in children-like quality.
“Done!” Haru announced before presenting his paper to Atsumu. It was a typical kindergartener’s drawing, with colorful squiggly lines and a smiley faced sun adorned in the corner.
“This is me and mama,” Haru explained, pointing to two stick figures with bright big smiley faces. “This is Aunt Mimi, and I put you mister!”
“What? How come?” Haru considered him a part of his family? Already?
“You said you’re mama’s friend,” he stated simply. For a four year old, it was all the reason he needed. Atsumu looked down at the photo, a smile creeping on his mouth, even if Haru chose to color his hair with a too-bright yellow crayon.
“Sorry, sorry!” You exclaimed, returning to the living room to find Haru and Atsumu sitting cross-legged at the coffee table. “My boss never knows when to stop talking, I swear.”
“That’s alright, look at what Haru drew!” Atsumu beamed, gesturing to the drawing on the table.
You walked over to inspect the colorful drawing and snorted. “Is that supposed to be you there?”
“Yup,” Atsumu grinned bashfully. He was practically giddy with excitement.
“Your hair is the same color as the sun,” you giggled pointing at the neon yellow sun in the corner of the page.
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
You couldn’t help but grin at how gleefully Atsumu was beaming at the drawing.
“Could I have this?” Atsumu asked, looking at Haru.
“No, it’s my homework!” Haru retorted, frowning. “I’ll get in trouble.”
You could tell Atsumu was about to give one of his infamous pouting faces that you were starting to grow accustomed to.
“But I could draw you another one,” Haru replied, going to grab another piece of paper.
“I’d like that very much.”
As Haru got to work on another drawing for Atsumu, you both went back to sit at the dining table together.
“How would you say your first day of parenting went?” You asked, across from Atsumu.
“I don’t think I’ll ever recover from Haru asking me to watch basketball over volleyball,” Atsumu scoffed. “Do you think he’s already goin’ through his rebellious phase?”
“It’s not the end of the world,” you snorted. Atsumu seemed practically miserable at the idea that Haru preferred the rival sport. You couldn’t imagine what it would be like if Haru declared he wanted to pursue any other activity other than volleyball at school. Knowing Atsumu, he would probably collapse at the idea.
“Ah, I didn’t realize how late it was gettin’,” Atsumu said, looking at the time on the clock on the wall.
“Yeah, I’ll have to get dinner started and Haru to bed soon,” you nodded, the day having flown by before you could even realize.
“I’ll get goin’ then,” Atsumu said, getting up from the table. “But I hope we can do this again soon?”
“Of course, I’d love it if you came around more often.” you replied and Atsumu’s eyes widened.
“Really?” He replied.
“Haru would too! I can already tell he likes being around you–” You quickly added, realizing that you probably seemed too eager for Atsumu to visit again. But it didn’t seem like he minded at all.
“I hope so,” Atsumu chuckled, going to collect his things. “Even if it seems like he doesn’t like my job.”
You rolled your eyes at him as you called over Haru to say goodbye, and the toddler came to the door with a paper scrunched in his hands.
“I drew you!” He announced proudly, presenting Atsumu the picture he had drawn for him. Once again, you noticed he had used the brightest yellow crayon he had in his box to color his hair.
“Thanks, Haru,” Atsumu grinned, going to ruffle his hair and take the picture from him. “I’ll put it on my fridge as soon as I get home.”
He turned back to you, the picture held carefully in his zoo-bandaged hands. It’s adorable, really.
“I’ll see ya around soon, alright?” Atsumu said with a toothy grin.
“Alright,” you replied, your tone softer than you intended.
Haru and you waved goodbye as you watched Atsumu head out of the apartment and down the hallway. Once he was in the privacy of the elevator, he pressed the drawing against his chest, where his heart was busy welling.
“I’d love it if you came around more often, huh?” He chuckled to himself. He didn't admit to himself he thought about the comment all the way home.
