since so many of you wanted a part two to this fic:
"" please, could you write something were the reader is part of kipps crew and lockwood is like obsessed with her. anytime they encounter he goes out of his way to be nice to her and kipps finds it so weird because she is like is best friend or sister even. that would be so cool! also love the new things you’ve posted earlier!!! ""
a/n: i am here to deliver! i have to say, i did not expect many, if any, requests for a part two of this piece (named Anthony on my masterlist), but here you go! thank you all for your support and love on not just this piece, but my other fics i love you all <3
warnings: angst, brief mention of suicide (for a case) female reader (few pronouns used)
part one
Your day could not get any worse, not even if a ghost appeared out of nowhere and killed you. No, in fact, that would be preferable to having Kipps screaming in your face.
"I told you to stay away from him! And now you tell me that you want to join his agency? You have got to be kidding me. This is some kind of prank, right? Is Bobby in on it? Ned? Surely not Kat."
You can't bring yourself to look at the guy who you have relied on for most of your life. The guilt is tearing you apart.
"No, it's not a prank," you say. "But, I'm not happy here, Kipps. I feel so... constrained. I don't want to keep having to follow a system that is so pick-and-choose with what they do and who they send. I want action. I want freedom."
Kipps looks like he's going to tear his hair out. "Freedom? You won't be getting freedom when DEPRAC arrests Lockwood and his little friends, you right along with them, for breaking the rules! God, do you ever listen to me?"
It feels like your heart is sinking, attached to a heavy weight. "Do you listen to me? I've told you I'm not happy here. The team barely speaks to each other, and all we seem to be doing is trying to show up Lockwood, George, and Lucy, and that's not what all of this is meant to be about. What happened to saving the world, Kipps? Isn't that what you used to tell me we'd do?"
And there it is: the breaking point. You've never seen him look so hurt, so betrayed, but you feel the exact same. He was meant to be your biggest supporter, and he can't even do that. Instead, he's so caught up in his pride, his love for the Fittes agency over his love for you, that he won't acknowledge how you feel.
"Hand in your notice by the end of the day," he says, his tone hard and his teeth gritted. "I want you gone by the morning."
"Kipps -" you say, but he's already lost interest and is walking away.
Asshole, you think, but there's no malice to it.
You can only watch as he, the only family figure you ever had in your life, leaves you behind.
--
"Oh, (name), we didn't expect to see you so soon," Lucy says upon opening the front door of 35 Portland Row. "I've almost finished setting up your bed in the attic with me, but - Wait, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, I'm fine," you say, but it's not overly convincing. "Just thought I'd leave before I got caught up in any big cases."
"You fell out, didn't you?" She ushers you inside, softly shutting the door behind you. "(name), I'm sorry -"
"I'm fine, Lucy," you insist.
She nods, but the look on her face tells you everything. Even if she doesn't know you that well, she's a little worried. With an attempt at a comforting smile, she leads you up the stairs, pointing out the boys' bedrooms and the bathroom, along with a room that no one enters - "We've been in it before, but only because Lockwood let us. You'd best wait until he's comfortable with you going in before finding out what's in there." - and, then, finally the attic.
It's a big space, crowded with over-large furniture. A double bed in the centre of the wall on the right, a wardrobe over on the other wall near the window, and a dresser beside. A small door leads to a tiny, cramped bathroom. Your bed, a fold-up one with a mattress haphazardly thrown on it, is squished in between the door and the wardrobe and, as tightly-packed as everything is, you smile at the cosiness of it.
"I'll just finish up on your bed -"
"I can get it, Lucy," you say, dropping your bags down at the foot of the bed. "Thank you. Are Lockwood and George here? It's awfully quiet."
Lucy snorts. "No, they're out at the moment, doing something or other. Do you want me to go put some tea on?"
You manage a smile. "Yes, please."
As it turns out, Lucy makes nicer tea than Geroge, and she's also kind enough to give you a bigger mug, although there are a few chips on the top. You suppose that's the norm with most of their things.
It doesn't take long for Lockwood and George to return from whatever they were doing. They trudge into the kitchen, arguing about something, but stop short in the doorway. Lucy gets up from her seat, halting her conversation with you, to pour them some tea while you sit, clutching your mug close in both hands.
"(name)!" Lockwood says, plastering on his infamous smile. "I didn't know you were here."
George shuffles past Lockwood and reaches into a cupboard, grabbing a biscuit. "She wasn't meant to be here for another week or two. Isn't that how notices work?"
"Uh, well." You shrug awkwardly, opting to stare at the scribbles on the thinking cloth, as you've been told it's called. "Things changed."
"Kipps made her leave sooner," Lucy says, and though she's worded it a little more gently than you had while talking to her over tea, it still hurts to hear. "Fell out."
"Well, you're here now," Lockwood says cheerfully, sitting down at the head of the table, just diagonal from you. "You'll have none of that from us."
Soundlessly, you move a plate slightly to reveal in loopy handwriting: "Lockwood is a prick and I hate him" next to a poor drawing of his face with devil horns. You raise your eyebrows, but he only laughs.
"What actually happened?" George asks. He looks a little too eager.
You purse your lips. "Told Kipps I wanted to leave, gave him a load of solid reasons, and he shouted at me a bunch. It's whatever."
Lockwood is watching you carefully as if watching and waiting to catch the pieces of you when you inevitably break. You offer up the best smile you can muster, but it doesn't seem to convince him.
"I'm fine, I promise," you say. "What about you guys? Any interesting cases lately?"
"Well," Lockwood says. His usual expression has returned - the cocky grin and sparkling eyes - but there's something a little subdued about it. His eyes still haven't left you. "George and I have just come back from the Archives doing some research for a case we've got tonight -"
"You mean George did the research," George grumbles. "You sat and daydreamed the whole time."
Lockwood only rolls his eyes. "Either way, you're welcome to join us on the case tonight - we could use an extra pair of hands."
Sipping your tea, you shrug again. "Might as well, as long as you're all fine with it."
George looks a little apprehensive about it, but Lucy nods. "What do we know so far?" she asks.
"Ms Diven, the client we met with this morning," George clarifies, glancing at you, "told us that there's a presence in her house, something she can sense but can't see, obviously, and that it's causing trouble. Well, that leads us to believe it's a Type Two, but who?" A smile splits his face, clearly very in his element. "In the Archives, I found some information on previous owners of the house, but only one of them seemed worth noting." He slides a newspaper cutting onto the table.
"Heidi Kairn," Lucy reads. "But, who was she?"
"Famous singer in the forties," George says. "The industry messed her up. A lot of stuff went down, and she ended up..." He drew a finger across his throat. Everyone got the message. "She's the only notable death from that house."
"Any clue what the source could be?" Lockwood asks. You notice how his hand on the table has moved slightly closer to yours. "Surely there won't be anything left from when the death occurred."
George shrugs. "It could be anything. A floorboard, a piece of furniture. We'll have to scout it out when we're there."
"Well!" Lockwood grins widely. "I suppose we should get our equipment ready."
--
Staring up at the house in front of you, you can't help but feel guilty. Not even a whole day since leaving Fittes, since leaving Kipps, and already you're on a case. Maybe Kipps was right to feel betrayed.
A hand closes softly around yours. When you look, it's Lockwood, looking straight on at the house with a grin.
"It's still daylight, so we'll scout out the house, use our Talents to see if we can figure anything out, and do our usual setup: iron circles in the main rooms, temperature readings. In half an hour, we'll all meet up back here on the porch."
You have to admire the confidence he speaks with. Kipps, for all his pride, would shout orders and stay behind with a facade of confidence, but it was easy enough to hear the fear lingering in his words. But, Lockwood doesn't show fear. Whether he even feels it right now is beyond you.
"George, Lucy, you guys take the bottom floor. (name) and I will take the top."
Lucy looks like she's trying to suppress a smile, glancing between you, Lockwood, and your clasped hands. "Got it. See you guys soon. Come on, George."
The pair trudge into the house, immediately taking a right into what you assume is the living room.
"Are you alright?"
You look back at Lockwood. "Hmm?"
That careful look is back. "It wasn't your fault, you know, yours and Kipps' argument. If anything, it's mine."
"That doesn't matter right now," you say, but you appreciate his words nonetheless. "Come on, I'd like to get this case over with as soon as."
It appeared to be harder than you thought. Lockwood and Co, though using many Fittes techniques for their procedures, also did some things very differently. They used the Fittes grid technique for temperature readings, but where they placed their iron circles was entirely different from where you would've done so. And, while you were glad that orders weren't being shouted at you by someone who didn't have the full scope of what was going on, the silence made you uneasy. The investigation of the house took a lot less time than it would've at Fittes, and even though everything that needed to be done had been, you couldn't get that pit of dread out of your stomach.
It was a moderately sized house, not large in any sense, but grand enough to have guest bedrooms which, in your eyes, said enough. The rooms were all relatively simple, with plain-coloured walls and light and trodden carpets. There were two kids' bedrooms, both concerningly beige, and the bathroom was about the size of the kitchen back at Portland Row.
"You've got Sight, too, right?" Lockwood asks, opening the door to the master bedroom.
"Yeah. Not as good as my Touch, but strong enough."
"So you see that deathglow, too?"
You step into the room, only to stop short. Lockwood pulls a pair of sunglasses from his coat, placing them over his eyes. A deathglow hovers over the ground, blindingly bright in the growing darkness of the room.
"Sense anything?" Lockwood asks.
Shuffling back slightly, you touch your hand to the doorframe and open your senses.
Crying. Someone is sobbing hysterically as they run into the room, throwing themself onto the bed. There's a strong chemical-like smell, something that has your gut twisting. A faint figure, one you can barely see, pushes itself off the bed as horrid cries escape their lips. The sound is heart-wrenching. They reach for something on a dresser that is no longer there, clutching at their chest and putting a hand to their mouth. Shortly after, they collapse, seizing.
Gasping, you tear your hand from the doorframe, stumbling back. It hurts to breathe.
"Anthony," you manage. Your heart is pounding in your chest.
Lockwood's face appears before yours, hands gently touching your face as he repeats, over and over, "You're okay. You're safe. You're with me."
It's at times like this that you hate your Talent. Sometimes, Touch just gives you the echoes of the past you need to hear to locate a source or figure out who the Visitor really is, but, other times, it feels like you're being sucked back into the past. Everything, all the emotions, feel amplified.
"Hey, you're okay," Lockwood repeats. His forehead presses against yours as his dark eyes meet yours. His gaze is so reassuring that you can't look away. "We need to get back outside, tell the others whatever it is you've seen. Can you do that?"
Taking a deep breath, you nod.
"You don't have to continue with this case," he says. "Lucy, George, and I should be able to manage on our own."
"I'll be okay," you say, your voice quieter than you thought it'd be.
His eyes close momentarily, then his hands fall from your face and he steps back. "Come on," he says gently.
George and Lucy's findings are very limited. The temperatures in each of the rooms are relatively normal, except for the office which, judging from the layout of the house, is just beneath the room with the deathglow. Lucy had heard nothing out of the ordinary, not until the same moment you had used your Touch.
"Horrible crying," she says. "Full of pain. I couldn't make out any words. It was very faint."
"(name)?" George says. "What about you?"
You take a sip of tea from your flask to soothe your nerves. "The same, but I was dragged back to that moment, if you get what I mean. I could see her faintly - Heidi, that is. There was a really strong smell, something chemically, probably some kind of drug. I saw -" It takes you a moment to get the words out. "She overdosed in the master bedroom. As she... you know, she was holding something on her chest, a necklace, maybe."
Lockwood's hand closes around yours once more. You can't look at him, any of them. "You don't have to carry on with this case. That's a horrible thing to have to see."
"I've told you already, I'll be fine." Another sip of tea. "George, does that give you any clue what or where the source is?"
George takes a minute to think, biting down on a block of chocolate from Lucy's bag. "Well, it could well be a necklace. If I remember correctly, a lot of newspapers commented on her outfits a lot, and she wore the same necklace everywhere. A string of pearls, I think."
Lucy groans. "Yeah, because all that women cared about back then was what everyone wore." She breaks off another chunk of chocolate for herself. "Surely, she would've still been wearing the necklace when she was buried, or whatever. Why would it be in the house?"
"God knows," Lockwood says. "We're not here to figure that out. We're here to secure it and get rid of the Visitor."
You glance at the sky and then check your watch. Summer means that the days are longer, so Visitors take longer to gain strength. "Nine p.m. Getting dark."
Lockwood grins, and it helps ease you. "Let's go jewellery shopping."
--
A lantern on the dimmest light setting is placed in the master bedroom to give George some light as he scours the room for the suspected source.
It's better to keep light usage as low as possible, a fact you're more than aware of, but the darkness of the landing that seems to stretch on endlessly is making you anxious. Even with Lockwood to your right, and Lucy just behind, making sure nothing comes at George from inside the bedroom, you can't help but feel worried.
It takes all of your power to pull those emotions together and shove them deep, deep down. You can't afford for the Visitor to feed off of them.
"Ghost fog at the end of the hall," Lockwood announces. "George, you any closer to a source?"
"Not yet. I'm about to start prying up the floorboards. Luce, you have any gum? Miasma is starting to taste horrid."
There's a sound of crinkling wrappers, then silence again.
"Crying is back," Lucy says. Slowly, she draws her rapier, and the sound of the metal unsheathing gives you comfort. "Getting louder."
"There's a faint figure appearing," you say. "It's her."
The weight of the salt bomb in your hand is familiar, soothing. This is no different from every other case you've been on, it's just a different team.
Slowly, the ghost of Heidi Kairn becomes more and more visible. She wears a summer frock that reaches her knees, patterned with polka dots, and her hair reaches her shoulders, slightly curled and neatly styled. Her face is beautiful in a timeless sort of way. A string of pearls hangs around her neck, glittering in the other-light she produces.
For a moment, you believe she's harmless. She approaches curiously and cautiously, eyes doe-like. You don't want to hurt her. She's causing no trouble. She's so, so sad, and so lonely...
A shriek of rage pierces the air, and the ghost shoots towards you and Lockwood. Out of pure instinct, you throw the salt bomb, preventing her approach momentarily, and Lockwood keeps her back with a continuous movement of his rapier. His arm reaches out, slightly in front of you.
"I've found it!" George shouts.
"Well, get it out!" Lucy says, throwing another salt bomb at the ghost.
The ghost wails, floating around desperately to find a gap to dart through, but she's kept at bay by three rapiers and a few more salt bombs.
"My arm is stuck!" George says. "Lucy, help!"
Lucy hurries backwards, and Lockwood moves back to cover her space slightly. You throw another salt bomb, earning another shriek of anger.
Fighting Visitors is what you've spent most of your life doing. This is the easy part, for you. It takes almost no time for you to fall back into a routine of rapier manoeuvres and throwing salt bombs, and, soon enough, you and Lockwood are working in tandem.
"Got it!" Lucy says.
Heidi Kairn's ghost wails once more, darting straight for the master bedroom, but she never reaches it. She's cut down by two rapiers and before she can fully reform, her source is wrapped tightly in a silver net.
There's a moment of silence, and then Lockwood, Lucy, and George burst out into laughter. It's contagious and before long, you're laughing, too, leaning against the wall.
Already, they feel like family, and the realisation makes you smile even wider.

Part 5 of the Steddie Vegas AU!! So sorry it's a week late
Part 1 -- Part 2 -- Part 3 -- Part 4
Steve had just finished packing up the backpack with everything they'd need for a trip to the desert when the phone rang. At first, he assumed it'd be Robin getting antsy about how late it was getting (not that it was late at all) so he just answers with a snarky "What?"
It isn't until he hears his mother's haughty huff that all the colour drains out of his face.
"Steven, that is no way to answer the telephone! We raised you better than that," he can hear the disappointment dripping from her tone, but all he can think is, you didn't raise me at all!
"Mother. My apologies, I assumed you were Bobbie," he responds flatly.
"Oh, so that's his name," she snarked. Huh? Oh, for fuck's sake!
"No," Steve's quick to respond, trying to keep a hold of his temper, "I meant Robin, you know, my best friend!" His mother really should know that, but unsurprisingly Steve's life isn't important to her unless it's affecting her social standing, "Eddie is my husband, was that not clarified in the announcement?" he sniped, trying and failing to keep the bite out of it.
His mother sighed heavily, "You know I don't touch newspapers, darling," she drawled, "The ink stains my nails," she adds disdainfully. He can practically see her dusting the imaginary particles from her fingertips; she never was one to touch anything dirty. "We only heard because Sam mentioned it. Apparently our son doesn't bother to update us on his poor life choices any more," she bemoaned, with a quick succession of tuts for good measure. Sam was their lawyer, best friend, golf buddy, fuck buddy, probably, Steve didn't know, and he didn't want to.
The only poor choice I've made was answering this call!
Steve bit his tongue, holding in the lecture he wanted to unleash, like he always did, "Okay, well I have to go, I'm running late," he lied, "I'll come and see you both when I get home," he assured, even though they both knew he wouldn't.
"Okay, darling, call Sam, he'll finish the paperwork," she insisted, hanging up on him without waiting for a response.
Call Sam! Fuck you!
Resisting the urge to throw the phone at the wall, he kicked the bed with the side of his foot instead, growling in frustration. Part of him wanted them to leave him alone for good, part of him just wanted them to care, and the rest of him wanted him to stop caring what they thought. He sighed heavily, closing his eyes and counting to ten in his mind, this was Robin’s day, he could deal with his parental complications later. He flung the backpack over his shoulder, hooking the dressing gown over his arm and checked his hair in the mirror as he left the room, trying to leave the conversation and the frustration behind him.
But it didn’t work, he could still feel the anger deep in his bones that meant he couldn't help stomping up the staircase. He hated how she always managed to rile him up, but what he hated most was how he let her. Normally, one of her phone calls would come with a two-day sulk, hiding in his room and moping in bed like a sullen teenager. Normally he could call for Robin through the wall, and she’d come and lay with him, rest her head on his chest while he ranted, but he couldn't do that right now, but that didn’t stop him needing her. And honestly, he felt like he kinda needed Eddie too. He wanted his arms around his waist and his hair tickling his face, and he wanted to go back to the contented peace he'd felt earlier watching Eddie and Robin talk.
Finally making it back upstairs, he knocked on the suite door, Chrissy let him in with a welcoming smile before wandering off into her bedroom. A quick glance was all it took for him to realise that the girls were waiting for him alone, he wandered further into the room putting the dressing gown down on the back of the sofa as Robin came out of Chrissy's room, handing him his wallet that he'd left in his jeans on Eddie's floor.
"What's up?" she asked, barely even glancing at him before wrapping her arms tightly around him, pressing her cheek firmly against his chest.
"She called back," Steve muttered, tucking his chin over the top of her head, pulling her closer.
"Must've got around the club," Robin reasoned, tightening her grip, rubbing his back soothingly.
Steve adored her so much. He didn’t know how she had the patience with him because she never said anything. No matter how many times he let them do this to him, she was always just there for him, and the thing was he knew if the roles were reversed he wouldn’t be able to hold his tongue. He knew he’d be telling her to stop speaking to them, to stop letting them get to her because they both believed in cutting toxic people out, but she’d been the same way about Billy. She had obviously hated him, but she’d never said a bad word against him, never told Steve to leave him, she had always just sat and listened. She had always been his rock.
He just hummed in response, he didn't really want to think about it any more, they'd ruined enough of his holiday already. He kissed her on the top of her head, squeezing her once before releasing her.
Robin placed her hands on his cheeks, smiling affectionately as she squished his face, making him chuckle, before letting go with a gentle pat; circling him to rummage around in the backpack for her sunglasses that she'd left behind on the desk in their room.
Steve glanced around, watching as the girls pottered, "Where's Eddie?"
Robin shrugged, "Downstairs," she muttered, zipping the backpack back up, "He said something about a surprise," she added, aiming for nonchalance and missing by miles, turning on her heel and striding out the front door without another word.
Chrissy gathered her handbag and sunglasses, following her out and holding the door open, waiting for Steve to join them. He pulled the backpack tighter over his shoulder and pushed off the sofa with an amused huff, following them out and letting the door swing shut behind him.
He gave Chrissy a warm smile when she linked her arm through his as they wandered down the hall together side-by-side. Robin was already at the end of the corridor waiting for the lift, still pressing the down button when they caught her up.
A reaction like that from anyone else he would think was weird, but Steve knew Robin too well, he knew that her lack of elaboration just meant that she was in on whatever the surprise was and had been sworn to secrecy. Claudia had organised a surprise birthday party for him once, and Robin's head had nearly exploded.
When she'd been told about the surprise baby shower for Jenny in the office, she'd told him that she just found it easier to not speak around someone she was keeping something from, just to make sure she didn't blurt out the secret by accident. Except sometimes in life you can't avoid speaking to people, so then she'd have to do that, carefully regulated wording, precise and to the point.
Except what she never seemed to realise was just how stark the contrast was between her ability to witter endlessly and her careful wording and requisite silence. Jenny had been convinced Robin had fallen out with her, the added hormones didn't help, but she'd ended up wailing in the bathroom and Robin had had to spill the secret, so Jenny would stop crying and begging to know what she'd done wrong.
The first time he'd called her out for her silence and one word answers, she’d been her convinced he was a mind reader. They hadn't known each other long, they'd been neighbours for a few months but had only started to become friends when he and Billy were on a slow path to breaking up. She used to check in on him after one of their epic screaming matches, when Billy would throw whatever was closest, punch walls and slam the front door with a "fuck you!" She'd come over with Kleenex, chocolate and ice cream and sit with him on the couch, make him laugh and help him clean up and fix whatever Billy had broken.
But then about three days after his final breakup with Billy, her great aunt died. Obviously, he'd noticed her unexpected silence when she'd spent the previous two days talking his ear off to keep him distracted. She was shocked when he'd asked what was wrong and wouldn't take “nothing” for an answer. It wasn't that she was upset about the death, she just hadn't wanted Steve fussing over her when he was still feeling “emotionally fragile”.
Normally if she was quiet he'd try to wheedle it out of her, it was easier than dealing with how anxious it made her to keep something to herself, but she didn't seem too agitated and if it lasted more than ten minutes, he'd figured it out, but for now she seemed to be fine.
Although if he and Eddie decided to continue to see each other in Indy, he decided to just give him a heads-up to not involve her in future secret keeping, lest her head implode.
The elevator was taking a while to arrive, leaving the three of them standing in unnerving silence. Robin continuously anxiously pressing the down button. Even Chrissy was abnormally quiet, she seemed jittery, she'd let go of his arm and was switching between picking her nails and swishing side to side, her skirt swooshing around her legs.
Steve was about to ask what was wrong when the ding of the lift arriving interrupted him, Chrissy letting out a relieved sigh and stomping inside as soon as the doors opened. He gave Robin a what's up with her look, but Robin just shrugged with a look of her own that said, beats me. Robin followed her in, smoothing her outfit and hair in the mirror, pulling lip balm out of her pocket and putting on copious amounts as an excuse to look busy.
The doors slid shut behind Steve. He gave Chris his most reassuring smile, and she smiled back, but he could tell it was false. Her smile always reached her eyes, even when she was exhauster, but this time it just didn't. He was about to ask if everything was alright, he was worried something was really wrong, when she inadvertently interrupted him, bursting out, "Hey Steve!"
Her loudness seemed to surprise them both equally, Steve's eyebrows flying into his hairline. Chrissy just seeming to regret speaking at all, like she wished she could swallow the word back down. He tried his hardest to stay calm, hummed a questioning "hmm?" afraid actual words might spook her. He didn't even care if this was a shovel talk, he just wanted her to know she was in a safe space, that she could talk to him no matter what.
She spent a few seconds looking at him, really looking, like she was trying to see into his soul. He tried his hardest to be patient, tried not to squirm under her scrutiny, tried to stop his heart from beating out of his chest, but he kinda wished she’d just get it over with. She hesitated, let out another deep breath and ploughed ahead, "You do know your hair looks the same?" she murmured tenderly.
What?
That wasn't at all what he'd expected to come out of her mouth at all. Somehow it felt worse than if she'd said "If you hurt my best friend, I'll bury you so deep, not even the worms in the earth would be able to find you!" because it'd hurt like a motherfucker when Max had said that to him (as though he'd been the town heartbreaker) but a jab about his hair wasn't what he'd prepared for.
And okay, it wasn't a jab per se. In fact, it wasn't a jab at all, but it didn't stop it feeling that way. It felt like she'd just slapped him across the face, and he's no idea why it feels that way whenever anyone even mentions his hair. Because he knows that's all it is, it's just hair and in the grand scheme of things it isn't important, but he was The Hair!
It's who he was long before he was a king, long before he was a captain. He was defined by it, it was how his peers showed him respect, and his father had never been so proud of him as when that was who he was. When he was awake two hours before he should’ve been to make sure it looked perfect, that he looked perfect, even though he was secretly wearing his mother's concealer to hide the bags under his eyes.
Robin huffed and rolled her eyes hard, "Oh my god, don't get him started!" she grouched, still not looking at either of them.
The look of hurt on his face must have told Chrissy all she needed to know. Just like the way she huffed and flapped her hands frantically, in the same way El did when she was struggling to express herself, told Steve she wasn't trying to upset him. Not that it stopped him from instinctively combing his fingers protectively through his hair.
Chrissy visibly composed herself, taking a deep breath, putting her hands gently on his shoulders and looking up at him with kind eyes. "I didn't mean anything bad by it. It's just, your hair looked nice this morning, and it still looks nice now," she clarified, except he wasn't any clearer on what she was trying to say.
He knew his hair never looked nice in the morning, that was why he'd spent so many years of his life sleep-deprived, but she seemed insistent and there was no malice or devilry in her eyes, she was imploring him to understand like she could push the thoughts from her mind into his if only she stared hard enough and it might've worked this morning, but his mother calling had scrambled his head, it was like he reverted back to his old self whenever they wormed their way into his life.
She flicked her gaze over to Robin over his shoulder, not that she was paying either of them any attention, but when Chrissy looked back at him, she looked so sad it damn near broke his heart. She sighed heavily, and when her lip wobbled slightly he was worried she was about to cry, "My mom… she used to have me obsess over my appearance, too. So I get it. I'm just saying, y'know?" she muttered.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh, Chrissy!
Suddenly what she'd been trying to say made a lot more sense.
My parents cared more about how I looked than about me, too.
Steve sighed deeply, holding her gaze as a shared upbringing, a shared pain, passed between them. When she leaned up wrapping her arms around his neck, he automatically wrapped his arms tightly around her waist, tucking his chin over her shoulder, trying to offer her some comfort, trying to let her know he heard her, that he appreciated what she'd just told him.
He didn't know her well, but she deserved so much more than that, as he squeezed her tighter he felt the overwhelming need to protect her, to put himself between her and the world, to go back in time and put himself between her and her mother, to give her the found family who loved her unconditionally that his teenage self had been lucky enough to find.
"Thanks, Sugar," he mumbled in her ear, kissing the top of her head before letting her go.
Robin, of course, had no idea what they were talking about or the emotional moment they'd just shared. She had great parents, and he was so glad for it, he wouldn't wish his kind of parents on anyone, especially not his best friend. She just stomped off as soon as the doors swung open, disappearing into the lobby and expecting that they'd follow, ranting, "He's always been this way! Guy's looked like a Greek God since I met him. Could be dragged through a hedge backwards and still never need to change a damn thing. Doesn't stop him primping, making us late for everything-"
Steve glanced at the clock above the reception desk as he followed the girls outside, "It's barely 10," he interrupted sullenly, rolling his eyes.
"Irrelevant, my point is- holy fuck!"
Holy fuck, indeed!
Eddie, hair in a bun, in aviators and shorts! Resting on the bonnet of the most gorgeous car Steve had ever laid his eyes on. Oh my god! He wanted to take a picture to make it into a calendar, just twelve months of casual Eddie and a Cadillac! "Jesus Christ, is that a Cadillac?" Steve asked, needing confirmation of the facts his brain had only just caught up with.
Eddie grinned dazzlingly, whipping his sunglasses off his face, "A yellow-beige, 1984 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz, to be precise," he apprised smugly.
Circling the car, Steve couldn't quite believe his eyes. This was his dream car, he'd had a picture of this exact car on his bedroom wall since forever, he'd removed it from an old calendar he'd been given in his teens. He'd fallen in love with it immediately and kept the picture with him, just in the hope that maybe one day…
Knowing now why Robin was trying so hard to keep quiet, just endeared him all the more, he pulled her into his side, kissing her on the head. She'd clearly told Eddie all about it, but somehow Eddie had made it materialize. "No way!" Steve muttered in disbelief.
"Yes way!" Eddie exclaimed, pulling the keys from his pocket and letting them dangle in the air, his eyes were so soft even though his smile was slightly smug, like a magician who'd pulled the rabbit out of the hat.
Chrissy groaned, swishing her skirt again anxiously, "Eds, you know I love you, but I don't think I'm comfortable with you being behind the wheel of a convertible," she sounded genuinely concerned, but Eddie was quick to ease her.
He finally got up off the car circling around Chris and Robin, "Don't worry, My Little Dove, I'm like Santa I just used my sources to bring unadulterated joy to our very own Motorhead," he said exuberantly, kissing his best friend loudly on the cheek.
And Steve was listening to Eddie, but he didn't really hear him, so when he suddenly appeared in front of Steve with the keys held aloft between them and said "Stevie's got her! Doncha, Big Boy!" simultaneously dropping the keys into Steve's hand and waggling his eyebrows alluringly, it still didn't really sink in.
Steve looked down at the keys in his hands, "I get to..." he uttered disbelievingly because the thought that he'd get to drive this car was short-circuiting his brain.
That was before the thought hit him that Eddie had done this for him, for no other reason than to make him happy. People had done things for Steve before, but other than his found family, it'd always been to make up for something. His parents bought him extravagant gifts to make up for missing birthdays and Christmases, Nancy brought him homemade cakes when they fought (that it turned out Holly and Karen had made, and she took credit for) and Billy would bring him flowers whenever he "worked away" (also known as cheating on Steve).
But this beautiful creation, this angel, this miracle of a human being, had teamed up with his best friend to make one of his dreams come true. To make him smile for no other reason than because he wanted to make him happy, and Steve just couldn't quite believe his luck.
And then Eddie, eyes unbelievably soft, said, "All yours, my love," his cheeks pinkening and his eyes immediately going wide as his words had sunk in. And Steve couldn't have that because he would be so lucky to be Eddie's love.
He wasn't sure how sober-Eddie felt about public displays of affection, so he beamed sweetly at him, trying to convey all he was feeling, tenderly cupping his jaw and kissing him firmly on the cheek, letting his affection shine through when he leaned away to smile at him.
It was Chrissy squealing and jumping up and down, clapping excitedly and Robin's fake gagging that broke them out of their moment, Eddie hiding adorably behind his hand, as he headed around to the passenger side clambering into the car, trying and failing to hide the blush on his cheeks. Steve folded the front seat forward, holding out a hand to help the girls to climb in the back, Chrissy using his outstretched hand for support, squeezing Eddie on the shoulder and asking "Whose car is this anyway?"
"Char's buddy, Todd," Eddie replied, as Robin clambered into the back using Steve's head for balance, ruffling his hair as she landed in the backseat with an impish grin.
Resisting the childish urge to vault over the car door, Steve handed Robin the backpack and readjusted the seat, clambering in after them. A feeling of awe sweeping over him as he saw all the mechanisms up close that he was going to get to touch and use to power the car he spent years dreaming about. "Forget Todd, Steve's her daddy now!" he muttered as he turned the key in the ignition, hearing the car purr to life and the roar of their laughter and feeling like he could explode with happiness.
He was all but caressing the steering wheel when a car honking behind them reminded him that they needed to get going, not just sit outside the hotel all day. Adjusting the seat and the mirrors, he found he couldn't look directly at Eddie as he adjusted the mirror on his side, he knew if he did that they’d never get anywhere because between the outfit, the bun, the gorgeous smile on his face and the Herculean effort to make his dream come true Steve just couldn't keep his thoughts straight.
He wanted to grab Eddie by the hand and take him back upstairs to show him just how grateful he was for this, he also wanted to take Eddie to the nearest studio to get him started on making his own dreams come true, and he wanted to take Eddie home and move him in and carpool with him and go on road trips just like this one. But this was Robin's day, no matter how much Eddie had managed to make it feel like his day too.
He caught a glimpse of the girls in the backseat, Chrissy now had a scarf wrapped around her hair and her sunglasses perched on her nose, she looked like a movie star. And Robin looked adorable with her hair pulled into a tiny ponytail sticking out of the back of his high school baseball cap. They were both back to their normal selves now, their anxiety seemed to have dissipated completely, both grinning widely, chatting and laughing together as though the last twenty minutes hadn't happened.
Sneaking a cheeky glance at Eddie, he caught him watching the two of them in the wing mirror with such a fond expression, Steve felt like his heart might beat right through his chest; the horn honking again was the only thing that stopped him from leaning across the seat to kiss him senseless.
----------------------------
Grinning mischievously, Steve revved the engine playfully, the growl of the engine sounding just how he'd always imagined it would, getting to fully appreciate the way Eddie's attention snapped back to him, as he laughed brightly and rolled his eyes fondly. Steve couldn't remember the last time he'd felt so joyous as he shifted into gear and set off into the mid-morning traffic.

Visitor, a 6 x 12 drabble. Buck and Eddie talk about the shooting.
Like clockwork, there's a knock right as the mac and cheese is ready.
"Oh my fucking god," Buck isn't even sure he's whispering anymore, and he isn't sure he really cares either. Briefly, he considers not answering—he is recovering from being dead, after all—even as his feet carry him to the front door automatically.
"Hi," Eddie says hurriedly and brushes past Buck into the house. Buck peers out into the hallway to check for Christopher and then remembers that he and Denny are having a sleepover. Mike from down the hall gives him a weird look that he quickly shifts into a smile, and Buck smiles back awkwardly.
"Um, hello?" Buck says, voice slightly raspy. He clears his throat. Eddie, in the five seconds since Buck let him in, has somehow managed to grab two beers from the refrigerator and is in the process of opening them.
"Hey," Eddie answers shortly, uncorking the beers deftly in a motion that's always been distracting.
"Did you just come to steal my beer?" Buck asks. "Or did Maddie—"
"Maddie didn't send me," Eddie says with a small smile. He slides one of the beers towards Buck and grabs the oven mitts from the second drawer below the counter like he's done it a thousand times before, because he's done it a thousand times before. "So Bobby brought mac and cheese?"
Ten minutes of mouthfuls of cheese and pasta and comfortable silence later, Buck broaches the topic again.
"So not that I'm not having a good time—"
"I came over because I didn't tell you the whole truth before and I came over before my courage wore off," Eddie says calmly. Buck briefly marvels at how steady Eddie sounds, even as his own chest feels a little funny. He should probably make note of that, but Eddie keeps talking.
"I think it took me by surprise," he says slowly, eyes on his nearly empty plate.
"Being shot? I'd hope so," Buck blurts out because he knows what Eddie is talking about, and then immediately winces. Eddie laughs, eyes finally coming to rest on Buck. The funny feeling intensifies.
"No, your question earlier," Eddie clairifes. "We hadn't spoken about it all this time and now—" he trails off, eyes wavering again. He takes two sips of his beer in quick succession, one of his nervous tics.
"—now we are," Buck finishes.
Eddie nods but says nothing, drinking his beer again. Buck feels as though he's siphoning off metaphorical liquid courage from Eddie.
"So let's talk about it," Buck says.
Eddie looks up at that. To Buck's surprise, he smiles. For a man who has habit and routine etched on his skin, he is constantly surprising Buck.
"I was hoping you'd say something like that."
-------------------------------------------------
"I did mean it when I said that I thought that was it," Eddie says. They've moved to the balcony, the night beautiful and endless and vast. Eddie's voice is quiet again, but his eyes never leave Buck's. "But I didn't tell you the whole truth."
"Okay," Buck says, hoping Eddie would continue, and somehow knowing that he would.
"I remember pain. I remember seeing blood. I remember falling down. I remember blood, on you. I remember thinking you were hurt and how I couldn't move enough to get to you."
There is blood in Buck's mouth, metallic and distinct and Eddie's, and there is a street that is once again a street but was once the setting for the worst day of Buck's life. There is a lazy Wednesday night and Eddie sitting across from him, warm and alive and eyes on Buck.
There used to be days when Buck couldn't separate the two.
"I remember Christopher. I remember thinking I won't watch him grow up."
Buck doesn't jump when Eddie's hand comes to rest on his own, but he does realize that he's shaking a little. Eddie's hand on his reminds him of Taylor's when she's held them that day outside the hospital, though Eddie's feels much less temporal, much more like belonging.
"I remember you. I remember watching you. I remember how still you were, how scared I was."
"I was so scared," Buck says, and he turns his hand so he's gripping Eddie's tightly.
"I remember you saying you were okay, and I remember how I let go then. I remember thinking I'd never see you again."
There are tears on Buck's face that should've fallen that day on that street. Eddie stays still next to him, his hand so, so warm and alive. Buck rests his forefinger on his wrist and feels his beating pulse. Alive. Awake. Alive. Since his own experience with death, Buck thinks he understands the distinction between those a little more.
"What do you think would've happened if we'd spoken about this then?" Eddie asks unexpectedly amidst another descent into silence during which Buck's face feels less wet. It's the first time all evening Eddie sounds anything less than sure.
"Then?" Buck echoes. "You mean after you woke up?"
Eddie shrugs. "Maybe. Or after we got home."
"At your party?" Buck asks, and he can't help the note of amusement in his voice. "In front of Ana and Taylor?"
Eddie laughs. "I guess that might have been weird." He sobers up a little as they descend into silence. Buck wonders if Eddie would move his hand any time now. He wishes he wouldn't.
"I've been thinking about the what-ifs, ever since you came back to us," Eddie says. "Maybe we would've been different if we'd only spoken about it then."
"Then you didn't get the story right," Buck says quietly, and for all the times they have come close to this in the face of almost certain death, it's almost impossible that they're here now, sitting on Buck's balcony and sipping beers like they have a thousand times before.
"Yeah?" Eddie asks slowly.
"The story isn't about the what-ifs. It's about being here in this life. It's about acceptance. And forgiveness. So I don't think you should think about the what-ifs. You should think about the present and what you do have now."
Eddie could take the out. Eddie could lighten the moment and use Buck's self-help book spiel to goad him lightheartedly. Buck would laugh then, casually move his hand away from Eddie's and bully him into bringing Buck another beer. They've played this game before. Buck has it down to a science.
"Okay," Buck hears Eddie say. His heart soars. "Okay, you're right."
"Okay," he echoes. Eddie squeezes his hand and doesn't let go, and for all of Buck's advice, he sees down a never-ending array of nights just like this, just the two of them here like this, day after day, month after month, year after year. It doesn't feel quite like a what-if. It feels like a future, and Buck thinks that Eddie just told him that they should have it.
They talk into the night, and Eddie doesn't go. Buck does bully him into bringing him more beer and Eddie doesn't go, instead dragging Buck in to the kitchen with him, eyes dark and warm. Buck laughs and cries into the night, and Eddie does it with him. Eddie stays.
They pick up Christopher from the Wilson's the next day. Buck follows Eddie and Christopher home, and this time, he goes home for good.

GLORY OF GORE AND THE GRACIOUS - NORMAL, NORMAL.
Tumblr media
What part of not wanting to talk did he not get? Was he stupid? She gritted her teeth. "I need you to shut up right now before I say something that I don't mean." She didn't want to fight but she didn't know how to deal with her sadness. Being vulnerable was still foreign and Allie felt as though she was being put on the spot, the center of attention. She knew that she was being kind of a bitch about it but what did he know? You don't know shit about what it's like to lose people you care about because some pussy-ass hunter didn't have the balls to finish the job right the first time! his words from earlier on in the night rang in her head. The car felt claustrophobic. She did know what it was like to lose someone. She did. Being yelled at by him... it stirred her weakness. Her pain. Her guilt.  Ryan. Ryan. Ryan.  The name was like kryptonite, memories akin to dynamite. It felt like a pounding of a hammer in her chest. Not here, please! her inner voice begged, pleaded— but the panic began. His face was there. Thousands of miles away and he still haunted her. "Pull over! Now!" She rasped as her breathing quickened. The world was ending. Or, at least, it felt like it was.
Linoleum tile proved to be the final claim. Looking up at humanity through swollen eyes while a facetious lover tossed items around the room in blatant fury brought forward a long awaited epiphany. The one that held her would surely kill her if things continued. Long gasps of pained breathing left her as broken ribs flared below reddened skin. Last time the fucking cops did a whole lick of nothing. Small towns - everyone knows everyone. Maybe that had been his whole plan in the first place - carefully constructed violence. Move them after college, after things got bad.
Below a mask of flirtation and teasing sarcasm lays a girl that was left to the dogs. Upon finding Bobby, Allie fell into hunting with ease - and why? Familiarity. Tension, Incident, Reconciliation, Calm. All stages found in abusive relationships. Hunting acted as an outlet for pent up aggression and not only that but also an excuse - now all things were monsters. Gradually it became easier and easier to 'dispatch' evil. After all, she learned early that humans could be monsters too.
Allie acts as an enigma of sorts, tough to identify how she'll react in various situations. PTSD symptoms act as a deep well of self-hatred within her. Being thrown around, hit, and in constant distress of some sort keeps her in the cycle and unfortunately, a part of her enjoys it - mainly due to the sense of accomplishment after a hunt is successful. I've decided to add tidbits in regards to her actions, ideas, and pain involving the past and the cycle (of which she begins to question after her resurrection.)
Deep hatred for John Winchester, consistently compares him to her own father which Allie throned very quickly.
Does not approve of male on male violence. i.e will get between Sam and Dean without thought and will physically shove them apart. male on female violence comes with even higher rage, as she eventually killed Ryan in self-defense and approves of that method.
Exceptional towards dealing with victims in their line of work. During the first few seasons this is where her true self shines through. She is incredibly empathetic to those in need.
Honesty and emotional regulation - Allie is not proficient at emotional regulation. Mental illness comes in strong when she is not around those that she loves. She struggles deeply with anxiety and depression (which hunting exemplifies) but will not leave hunting.
Although heavily flirtatious, she does not enjoy being touched. It takes Allie a lot to favor physical contact without the idea that she is being used for her looks. Sam, Dean, and Bobby are pretty much the only people that she will be physically affectionate with.
Due to this, unlike the boys she cannot have one-night stands. The only time one night stands occur are when used for self punishment/mental illness related promiscuity.
Irrational sense of safety and self-sacrifice - Perhaps most importantly, due to her low value of herself, Allie will thrust herself into battle impulsively and often risks her own life to protect those around her. This led to her eventual death in Season 7 after distracting a Leviathan on purpose when it moved to eat Dean. She was aware about offering her own life up instead and accepted that fate without a second thought. Consequently, she died in his arms in the backseat of Baby after being thrown over a banister by the Leviathan and suffering brain damage.

In honor of me reaching What’s Next on my 911 Rewatch, here’s a bit I wrote like a year ago for the Fic I Don’t Know if I’ll Ever finish writing but I keep teasing on here:
*
she knew that it wasn’t her place to hear the plan on how to rescue her fiance, she didn’t know how to help but she had to know what they were going to do, she had to know he’d be okay
“Buck, no” Captain Nash’s voice was rough, not open ‘ to discussion and Abby just wanted to scream let him try, let him save Sam
“Bobby, I can pull it off”
“It’s too risky”
“I know but...”
“No” the new voice came from a firefighter she didn’t know, the one that she’d been talking to earlier, his voice was even ‘ more angry than Captain Nash’s
“Eds...”
“No buck, I know she’s your first great love, okay? But you’re not risking your life, not for her” Abby frowned, who did he think he is? If buck could save Sam then they should let him
“Eddie that’s not...”
“Buck please” Abby couldn’t ‘ see much from where she was standing but she saw the way the firefighter reached out to Buck, trying to close the distance between them “we’ll figure out a less risky way to save him, just please don’t do this”
“Eddie I have to”
He huffed and stepped away ‘ from Buck
“What about me then? I’m supposed to be your great love now, or maybe let’s not think about me for a second, we have two kids at home that expect both of us to come home safe to them, this goes south, what am I gonna tell them?” Buck sighed “Yeah, it’s not the same now isn’t it?” the firefighter stepped away from Captain Nash and buck.
When Abby left she didn’t think much about Buck, yes it sounds awful, yes it was shitty to break up with him by just leaving him behind but at the time’ Abby couldn’t handle more than that so she let time take it’s course and when it finally ran out she was able to breathe
I’m supposed to be your great love now
But it was like a piece of her refused to even think about Buck beyond the boy that ‘ she had left behind at the airport doors, Buck was forever frozen in time on her head, still being the same silly boy full of optimism, full of energy and love, she imagined him still being a daredevil and giving Captain Nash grey hair
We have two kids at home ‘
It was hard to think about that boy and put him as a family man, not that she hadn’t thought he’d be great at it, but she never saw herself having a family with him, and now apparently he had a full house, with a partner and two kids
...
Sam ‘ was fine, well Sam was stable and as they waited for an ambulance to be available Abby was able to go away for a few minutes and search for buck to thank him, for not giving up, for bringing her fiancé back to her, and she found him, arms ‘ wrapped around his partner tightly
“Eddie, I’m sorry”
“Shut up buck” his voice was angry, but he was holding tightly to him, not letting him go “I’m so mad at you, you have no fucking idea”
“Am I sleeping in the couch tonight ?” Abby cringed at the Poor attempt of ‘ humor
“Are you...? You’ll be lucky if I ever let you out of my sight Buckley”
“Eddie cmon”
“No, last month, remember when I went down in the well?” Buck nodded “how did it feel, buck? Cause i remember a lot of crying from both of us”
“Thats the job ‘ and you know it” Eddie laughed
“That was the job, you had a choice today and you still went with the riskier choice, I ... I know you’re good at your job ok? You’re such a great firefighter that I don’t have to worry much, but you have to admit you ‘ weren’t thinking clearly today and that does scare me, buck”
“I’m sorry”
“I know, but I’m still mad, and probably going to be for a bit, so just let me be mad and don’t let go okay?”
“Okay” he adjusted his arms around him “but Bobby only gave us ‘ 10 minutes and they’re almost up” Eddie laughed
“i want a divorce” Buck laughed too
“We’ve been engaged all of two weeks and you’re already asking for divorce, unbelievable”
Abby decided that maybe she could wait to talk to Buck
*
I’ve been thinking lately of going back to it, so maybe I’ll come some time next year ✌🏼

final thoughts: supernatural season 5
well, i did it. the crazy spur-of-the-moment desire to rewatch the first 5 seasons of supernatural has been fulfilled. that was such an undertaking—i haven't watched anything longer than 20 episodes in what, a year? maybe? but after all this, i do actually want to continue after i take a short detour. maybe i'll even finish all 15 seasons this time around! (apparently i've seen the first 9 seasons, contrary to my earlier belief that i'd only seen up through season 8)
so first off, i loved the way the apocalypse was averted. dean's presence at the final showdown was really evocative and charming, and he really shaped the story in a uniquely supernatural way. the fact that cas died Again was hilarious (sorry cas), and i was surprised to learn that after resurrection, cas has the ability to simply raise bobby from the dead. i'm curious whether this is how cas raised dean out of hell, or if this is a new seraph-only kinda mojo. the logistics are a bit unclear to me.
i think i have two major criticisms for this series, so i'll start with the lesser one because it's not all that impressive. this season saw the structure of the show veer sharply away from its episodic foundations, which made it seem extremely different from earlier seasons. as someone who prefers that more linear storytelling, i feel like i shouldn't take issue with this, but i think the switch is actually very jarring. i guess i just want media to stick to its guns and follow through with what it started, more or less. it's not all that serious, but it did stand out to me, and it is a bit disappointing that in its effort to bring the overarching plot to the forefront, it strayed away from its core concept.
not to say it didn't work, really. i think it was fine overall. it's just a bit disappointing when you compare it to season 1.
my biggest critique is that goddamn was the ending rushed. i was shocked at how easily pestilence was defeated—cas more or less acted as a deus ex machina and that was it?? nothing else?? the confrontation with death was in the same episode? i really would have rather they take their time with such important milestones in the plot. pestilence had a lot more potential than what he ended up showing off, and the castiel ex machina was so bizarre, especially considering he got human'd literally minutes before he swooped in to save them.
it makes me reconsider whether some of the earlier episodes in the season were actually necessary, and if some of those A plots could have been cut or reorganized somehow to give the ending some breathing room. a lot of things in those last few episodes felt so underexplained and contrived in frankly irritating ways, which is super unfortunate because the season finales up to now have been handled rather well, i'd say.
that said, the dean/lucifer(sam) confrontation was magnificent. i love how it played out, and i love that dean's gay love for his brother pierced through the veil of death and saved the day. the fact that chuck was narrating the episode also gave it a nice touch, and a great wink and nod at him being god. i love how sympathetic lucifer makes himself—he seems to truly believe he's a level-headed victim in this whole mess, and it conveys well. it makes him an interesting character.
i do not like the resolution of the episode, mostly. the "ooh, cas is magically resurrected" feels weird, in ways that other spontaneous resurrections haven't before this. cheap, almost. i guess i have to ask, why would cas need to be resurrected if all is said and done? why is cas's sacrifice rewarded, but sam's isn't? why is god invested in keeping him, specifically, alive? i just don't see enough justification for it to happen. his first resurrection was fine—he had a job to do. but now? everything is over. there isn't any motive left to drive that kind of miracle.
and then sam... i thought i remembered him like, having to be dragged back out of hell in season 6? or something of the sort. so seeing him at the end of the episode was kinda shocking because i don't remember that at all. but regardless of that, i really don't like those kinds of teasers. they feel so, well, cheap. they're the kinds of endings that greedy corporations tack onto the end of their standalone films to tease a possible second film when the first was already wrapped up and finished with no natural lead-in to a sequel. and that's really what sam's spontaneous appearance here felt like: the story was all wrapped up, and the creators felt the need to shove a forced "ooh what's next~?" at the tail end because they couldn't think of anything better. and all it served to do was make me grimace. chuck's "unless...?" should have been enough, honestly. a cheap, gimmicky stunt wasn't needed to foster any more intrigue for an upcoming season. idk i just really disliked that.
anyway, aside from that, i was most delighted about crowley finally being introduced. he was one of my favorite characters my first time around, and he did not disappoint this time, either. i like the particular flavor of homoeroticism he brings to the table, and his snarky, obnoxious personality that builds such natural tension with everyone in the room with him. he's a dreamboat fr.
the wincest kicked into overdrive this season, which i think is hilarious since we're two seasons into castiel being part of the main cast. but jesus their psychotic, irrational, erotic codependency literally never stops, and i am all in to see this trainwreck of a relationship keep going. which is good, because i remember liking a lot of things in season 6 actually, not least soulless sam. and of course more crowley <3
anyway i guess that's the gist of my thoughts. overall i had a lot of fun with this season. the pacing was way off, especially at the end, but there were some really amazing moments and concepts, and i like the way supernatural handled its apocalypse plot, especially compared to good omens. the way they play with the lore and elaborate on concepts is at the very least a lot of fun, and i enjoyed unpacking everything they threw at me.
so, next up i'll be watching season 1 of the terror, but after that i think i'll sit down and dig into season 6. really looking forward to soulless sam. and, of course, more crowley <3

The Road So Far: Season 8
Well. Halfway done. Officially, as of 8x15 Man's Best Friend With Benefits (the 164th episode of the 327-episode series).
If you're confused, this is my recap/thoughts on season 8 of Supernatural. You can find my other season recaps and episode notes in the "ashla chick flick moments" tag.
This season was all over the place. I find that I like Sam less and less as the series goes on (though I am chronic Deangirl). I could've maybe understood giving up on Dean after a while, but the fact that he didn't even try in the first place and also ditched Kevin was a jerk move.
Garth was kind of annoying this season, and I don't mean in his normal, lovable way. Taking Bobby's place is fine, but you can't just replace a person. The hunting world needed a new researcher/dispatcher, but they didn't need a new Bobby.
Charlie, however, was just as amazing as ever. She got some more backstory revealed, and her sibling relationship with Dean was a joy to watch (I don't think I've seen Dean have that much fun since season 4 with Cas. Take that how you will.)
We met multiple new characters, like Benny, Abbadon, and Naomi, and I think that all of them got mixed reviews. Abbadon is going to be a fun villain, I think, because she's just so brutal and terrifying. She reminds me of Azazel (as she should) and I can't wait to see her story play out. Naomi is a character you can't help but hate. The whole situation is complicated, but what she did to Cas and the other angels is unacceptable. However, I do think she could've been a valuable ally against Metatron had she survived. Benny was an interesting addition. Obviously I don't know everything that happened in Purgatory, but Dean and Benny's bond seemed a little out of character for Dean. Then again, he was stuck in nightmareland and had just lost his brother and best friend, so he was probably willing to latch on to anyone. Honestly, I just don't know how to feel about Benny. Ultimately, he always pulled through and I'm glad he was there for Dean, but it just felt a little weird.
I mentioned Metatron, and I've gotta say, he was not what I was expecting. Although, I'm not really sure what it was exactly that I was expecting.
If I've got my timeline right (I probably don't) season 9 starts the whole Mark of Cain storyline to stop Abbadon, and I presume Metatron will be involved earlier in the season (a la season 6 Soulless!Sam then Eve?) I took a glance at some of the episode titles/descriptions in season 9, and it looks like a wild ride from start to finish.
I'd say season 8 is somewhere in the middle of the ranking, maybe a little on the high end. There were some great episodes: 8x08 Hunteri Heroici, 8x09 Citizen Fang, 8x11 LARP and the Real Girl, 8x12 As Time Goes By, 8x17 Goodbye Stranger, and 8x20 Pac-Man Fever are all great episodes. I think normally season finales rank well on these lists, but the season 8 finale felt a little weird to me. It was strangely drawn out and kind of unsatisfying. Obviously the network was setting up for another season, but it didn't really feel like the end of a season at all. Anyway, my favorite episode was probably either 8x11 LARP and the Real Girl or 8x20 Pac-Man Fever. Charlie is just one of my favorite characters, and she and Dean always play off of each other so well.
Speaking of Dean, he was in ultimate Protective Parent Mode™ this season. With Sam and the trials, and Kevin being neglected, and Charlie's rough past, as well as others like Krissy Chambers and her friends, Dean had plenty of opportunity to let his soft side show. Not to mention, the major case of nesting at the bunker! Germophobe Dean my beloved <3. Knowing what I do about the next two seasons, makes me think that this is almost a peace offering ahead of what's to come for Dean's character.
I don't really have anything good to say about Sam right now, so I won't say much, but I do think the whole "purity" storyline is interesting. None of our main characters are completely "pure," so Sam's obsession seems a little unfounded. It was motivation, though, and it kept him going, so it was a net good, I guess.
I really want to finish season 9, and that's the plan. I'd like to also get through season 10 before the end of summer, but I really don't see that happening. There'll be a 2-3 week dead zone where I won't be watching anything, which is not great for my watch schedule. I'm also moving and losing Netflix in early-mid August, so I'm not sure how I'll watch the show after that (the DVD boxed set is $120-ish, and that's actually a bargain. I'm screwed). I do plan to finish this series! Both watching and chronicling. I'm just not sure of logistics yet. I really want to see Baby, I haven't even met Jack, and I know that my blorbo Adam comes back! Now is not the time to quit! I'll start season 9 soon. Catch you on the flip side, and Carry On!

Hello mango 🤩🥭
I know you probably have a lot of requests about the "Midoriya family teacher" fiasco, but I'm curious what would happen if the reader grew an attachment to the daughter but not Izaku; so much so when an opportunity to escape presents itself, they tried to take the toddler with them believing their father too unstable if left alone.
How would that go down and ultimately what is Deku's reaction, just before and right after the attempt?
Please and thank you! 🤗
♡ Caught in the Act ♡
(A/N: Hey, hey, hey, look at who’s back with more Izuku single dad au!!! I’m so sorry to the people who don’t like my domestic fics but I’m obsessed with this series 😍😍 I cant wait to write more!!!)
Summary: You get up in the middle of the night, planning to escape with your captors daughter. Only to be caught in the middle of the act (Yan!Deku x GN!Reader)
︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵
Tumblr media
Part One: Here ♡
Part Two: Here ♡ (this isn’t really a part three but those fics are connected to this one)
Izuku’s grip on you is so tight. Not tight enough to hurt you, but it was still to tight in your mind. You gently grab his arm that’s wrapped around your waist, lifting it up so you can crawl your way out of the large bed. You suck in your breath when he lets out a small whine in his sleep.
After a moment of making sure Izuku’s asleep, you tiptoe out of the room. You’ve spent almost two weeks picking the lock to the back door, while Izuku was at work so he wouldn’t catch you. You finally unlocked it, you were going escape just then when you found out how to open the door but you waited for Izuku to get back so you could leave with his daughter. You had become so attached to the toddler, her smile lighting up your day.
You lightly open the door to Isamu’s room, her stuffed animals and toys haphazardly thrown on the floor from when she had been playing earlier. You walk over to the small bed that’s covered by strawberry print sheets and blankets. “Isamu, baby, wake up” you whisper, tapping the small girl on the shoulder.
“Hmm?” Isamu mumbles, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. She was so cute. The small girl moves a part of her long messy green hair out of her little face. “Mama/Daddy, morning already?” She yawns, fiddling with the hem button pajama shirt. “No, we’re gonna go on a little adventure, ok?” You smile, hoping that Isamu can’t tell how nervous you are. Hopefully you’ll be able to escape from Izuku tonight.
“Like princess book?” She asks, her eyes sparkling. She loved her fairytale books, after all. “Yeah, like your princess book” You beak, watching Isamu smile at your words. You lean down and gently pick her up, holding her to your chest. You walk as fast as you can without making any noise. You set down Isamu when you reach the door. You grab the bobby-pin out of your pocket, the bobby-pin being in the exact shape of the lock.
“Darling...”
You freeze. You drop to the floor, not even trying to finish opening up the door. Izuku can feel tears in his eyes. He’s tried so hard to keep you happy here. He even thought you started to get comfortable here, considering you loved and adored Isamu. “Papa...” Isamu whispers, running over to her father at the sight of tears in his eyes.
“Papa, no cry...” Isamu whispers, looking between the two of you. She doesn’t know what’s going on, but she can tell that both of you are sad. “Sweet pea, darling, come here” Izuku says, dropping to his knees and opening his arms for both of you. Isamu gives her papa a big hug at hearing ‘sweet pea’, that being her favorite nickname from him.
You don’t even look up, crawling across the floor to Izuku, obediently falling into his arms. You really thought you would have been able to escape. You should’ve known that you couldn’t. “Sweetheart, why?” Izuku whispers, holding close. The tears that were once in his eyes, now sliding down his cheeks. “Y-You weren’t really trying to leave me, right?” He asks, completely aware that you were trying to escape and steal his daughter from him. However, he truly doesn’t want to believe it.
“I- I don’t know?” You say, giving in and resting your head in the crook of his neck. Isamu looks between you both, crying as well. She doesn’t want either of you to cry, she loves her family! “Shh, it’s alright, babies” Izuku tries you comfort, addressing both you and his toddler.
All of you are crying at this point. Izuku from you trying to escape from him and steal his daughter away. You from your failed escape attempt. And, Isamu from seeing her family so sad.
“W-why sad?” Isamu sniffs, earning a kiss on the forehead from her father. “Mama/Daddy just got a little bit confused, sweet pea. They did something that really hurt papa, but it’s all okay now” Izuku says smiling although there are tears on his cheeks, holding both of you close.
Izuku’s glad that he had caught you in time. He’s not going to let this happen again. Ever.

BOBBY NASH
Life as Cap's Daughter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Requested: yes
Author's note: I got a little carried away, but I wanted to DELIVER FROM POINT A (LOWEST) TO POINT B (BEST) PART OF HIS LIFE. Kept it realistic as possible plus it’s very long SO BEWARE
P.S. you can kind of see how my love for the man just SPILLED ... aka I kind of lost it and just hammered the numbers. It shows how unexperienced I am at these <3
Requests for 9-1-1 are OPEN
Headcanon
Bobby had you before Marcy and Athena were a part of his life
You were his little everything
The food he fed you growing up…
You would tell people that your dad's a chef, and not a firefighter
You thought a chef was a better job! You were four…
With your mom out of the picture it was just you and your dad for a big part of your childhood
He baby proofed the entire house
Balled his eyes out when he walked you to school for the very first time
When he met Marcy you were roughly around 8, but the two of you got along very well right off the bat
Even though he's a quiet, withdrawn man that likes to keep to himself, you were the one who brought out his witty side
He was very proud when you showed an interest in ice skating, it quickly became 'your thing' and Bobby loved that you inherited that from him
He's at all of your performances!
He catches you every time no matter the situation
You loved Robert Jr. and Brook very much too, considering them your siblings without a doubt
You helped change their diapers, practically raised them with Marcy and your dad
Family dinners with Bobby's marvelous cooking – a must!
Bobby was very overprotective when you entered your teen years so thank god for Marcy (she was a saint)
He'd invite your date over and drill him while eating the nicest foods he prepared with extra caution
"Dad, that was a bit too much…"
"You think? I didn't even get to scratch the surface."
"Okay, honey, let her go have fun."
Marcy and the kids were there for you when your dad started to go south because of his injury
"Dad where are you going?"
"I'll be back soon. Don't worry about me."
For a moment you considered if life with him was even worth it
Wanting to finish high school as soon as possible just so you could get away from his lies was your darkest thought
But he is your father, and no one could change that
The fire though... It was the most heartbreaking moment of your life
You were out, so you weren't on the scene
But you wished you were at some point
You couldn't look at him after that
Went through the roughest time of your life
It felt like you jumped through time because you two were alone again
But that made you treasure each other more than anything
You watched him at his lowest and supported him when he started to get better
"Dad, please don't give up."
I don't think Bobby would be able to get through the trauma if it weren't for you
Not even his notebook was enough to keep him together – you were the glue
That's why making a fresh start in L.A. felt great
You two settled quickly; you giving in more effort than he did at first
Because you're smart like your father you got into a very very very good college in L.A.
"At least something's working out for once."
"Hey don't say that."
"But dad... It's true!"
When he told you, he was in station 118 you stalked researched them
Found out the address, looked at the place from outside using Google Street View
That kinda thing
"But dad. I'm just looking out for you!"
"I know. Thank you for that."
There's a lot of buts
But dad this but daaaad that
You're very annoying when you want to be
The two of you lived together, since you didn't trust him enough to move out and live on campus
He didn't bring you to the firehouse until he was 100% sure
No scratch that: until he was 100000% sure, you weren't stepping foot on the grounds of that station
When you did meet them, you loved Hen instantly
You wanted to come back just for her
Chimney was a bit awkward
He didn't know how to act around you
You were 18 but since you were Cap's daughter he didn't know if he had to treat you like you were 8 or not
Hen didn't have that problem obviously
She was so easy going you loved her instantly
Bobby has eyes everywhere when you're at the station
MEETING BUCK WAS HORRIBLE
Your dad was breathing down on your neck when you came to the firehouse one day and Buck 1.0 was working there (just started)
HE HIT ON YOU IT WAS HORRIBLE YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO
Neither did he once he found out
That was the day Bobby fired him bc he did the nasty with that lady in the firetruck
You came by like, "Hi, I'm Y/N nice to meet you Evan."
And then suddenly you had to go like, "Bye Ev- Buck… It was nice knowing you."
Buck went home that day – pride demolished
"Did you really have to do that dad?"
"I said three strikes, and he's out. He didn't listen."
Why didn't you come earlier? Surely you could have given Buck some great tips
"Oh, well."
Buck came back!
You became friends after that. Had a teasing relationship, never looked at each other the other way after that day
Y/N + Buck = BFF
You'd joke about your first tragic meeting and you’d go out with him when he was going through a dark time because of Abby
You didn’t drink, he did
Everyone loves you OBVIOUSLY
You're Cap's daughter I MEAN WHAT IS THERE TO SAY?
Eddie came too! Eventually.
You fell in love with him instantly
But you love his son even more than him
You'd take care of him whenever you had time and Eddie was busy working
You learned more facts about the world from little Christopher than from your own father
You often came by to eat lunch at the station because that's where your dad ‘the cook’ was
Maddie and you hit it off very well and became close friends
NOW MEETING ATHENA FOR THE FIRST TIME…
Your mouth was on the floor
She was so goddess like you were smitten by her
So, your dad and her announcing their relationship to you wasn't a surprise
You and Hen won the bet
Became close with May and Harry too although it was hard not to picture them as Brook and Robert at first
After your dad and Athena got married you finally felt as if you could breathe
Knowing that your dad was safe and sound, you moved over to campus but still had your own room at Athena's place
You go there every weekend
You're essential to the party planning
Even though you're a perfect little young adult you're ready to pull out the "My step-mom's a sergeant" card
A huge party was thrown for your 21st birthday
I'm talking BIG BIG BIG
Buck and you got drunk
Your dad got drunk too
Life turned around for the better although some pieces of past tragedies still lingered
You've let go of people but you and your dad also grew and healed enough to let new people into your lives
No one knows what life has in store for you two, but you both know it will be good
As long as you have each other
He's your pillar, and you are his in return, that's how it's always been
"I love you dad."
"I love you too kiddo."

please when they were choosing teams for the third round
they sole reason they said no for The Boyz was because they were scared jiyu and sunwoo were just going to flirt the whole time—
(they weren’t wrong)
“for the sake of baby monster and the rest of us, sunwoo cannot be in same the team” (wooyoung)
jiyu: *pouts but can’t deny*
so that’s the story of how they chose Stray Kids and BTOB
and when they showed up to the track meet in jeans and green tops
“we look like sprouts!” :D
“guys why did we wear jeans? one of us might split our pants—”
“they really chose the loudest member of each group to be an MC”
“I HEARD THAT BABY MONSTER”
“YOU’RE ONLY PROVING MY POINT”
seeing her members so excited when they made their entrance was so endearing
she, eric, and i.n were chosen to read the oaths since they were the youngest ones on the show
she read the oath in such a soft and adorable voice that it literally made everyone 🥺🥺🥺
cracked up when they were officially announced as team mayfly
“we live like there’s no tomorrow!”
“wait, no” 🥺 (sunwoo)
when it was ATEEZ’s turn for the vault, they encouraged her to go first since they knew she was flexible enough for it and they wanted to show off their makne
when changmin announced that she was skilled in traditional chinese dancing, she hid behind the vault box since she was shy
please, when hongjoong slammed his...body into the box
she felt so bad but it was a little too funny for her—
her soul left her body when they reached two meters
“let’s go best friend!” (chanlix)
“you better pass and compete with me!” (eric)
everyone started cheering for her, even the other team :((
sunwoo felt so proud every time she passed (the camera literally caught the proud smirk he had at one point—)
she was so small 🥺
literally gave up at 2.2m
she somehow barely passed though, she really didn’t know how
“we found a new talent for baby monster!”
confused when she managed to last up to 2.4m
but she jumped and ended up clinging onto the box since she was too small to make it over :((
the editors inserted the baby crying sound effect for her
seonghwa had to come and help her down since she was too light to knock the box over so she was just stuck clinging onto the box
when they had to vote for the visual king
wooyoung started laughing and slapping her back
“we already know who you’re going to chose!”
she playfully shrugged
“it can change, you never know”
she even pretended to think when it was her turn
“Hm...” she hummed in thought when she scanned over all of the pictures that everyone had taken earlier in the morning. “This is a hard decision...”
Her eyes fell on her own picture and she immediately pouted. “Ooh...that didn’t turn out very well,” she chuckled. “I don’t know how some of these people manage to look so good in the morning.”
[But Jiyu looked like an angel in the morning, too!]
Grabbing her slip of paper to vote, she wrote down Sunwoo’s name without hesitation. “Don’t tell him, though. It’ll only inflate his ego even more.”
when she heard seonghwa wanted to have felix as his little brother 🥺
“felix! i found a new friend for you!”
after sunwoo was announced as third place, she looked so proud and just started hopping and clapping in tiny 🥺
“satisfied baby monster” (san)
“there’s actually a tie for third place, too!” younghoon revealed the surprise announcement and he couldn’t contain his laughter afterwards
“the other person is...ATEEZ’s jiyu!”
“huh???”
literally everyone burst out into laughter at the comedic plot twist
she swore she’s never heard her members laugh so loud, especially seonghwa and hongjoong
she just stood there in a daze staring at younghoon like he grew two heads
“YOU BOTH ARE LITERALLY MADE FOR EACH OTHER AT THIS POINT” (eric)
she ended up joining sunwoo and gave him a high five
"they even voted for each other” changmin revealed
everyone: “oOOoOOoOh”
Bobby held up his paper to show who he had voted for. “I chose Jiyu,” he announced. “She’s really adorable off stage, but when she goes on stage...visual explosion!”
“Her picture looks really cute here,” Minhyuk cooed.
“Of course...I chose Jiyu. And myself,” Sunwoo chuckled before slipping his paper into the box.
“I chose our little baby monster,” Wooyoung showed his paper. “She’s like a pretty little sister!”
“well, i certainly wasn’t expecting this, but thank you for choosing me,” she managed to say in between laughs
they shared the wreath :((
cheered for her bestie felix when he won second place
(not @ sunwoo pouting in the corner)
when it came to snake tag game, she really wanted to be the tail but she was also terrified of getting whipped around
so she decided to opt out for her own safety
she found it pretty cute when wooyoung and haknyeon just stood there holding hands
please, when it was eric and wooyoung as the head for the final round, she lost it
because she knew how feisty both of them were
“ooh is it finally time for running?”
she didn’t participate so she opted to be a cheerleader
she started jumping up and down and waving the flag
“hONGJOONG FORGIVE ME FOR BEING RUDE BUT RUN AS FAST AS THOSE TINY LEGS CAN CARRY YOU”
when wooyoung came in first she came barreling towards him with san and crushing him for a hug
but then she got crushed by the others when they came for a group hug
then she went to cheer on the other people that were still sprinting to the finish like :((
aside from almost losing her voice by the end of the day, she had so much fun just running around with everyone
it almost made her forget they were filming for a competition show
and she even made some new friends!
(also in the preview, she wasn’t seen in any of the sub units but she was seen dressed up for something 👀)
ma’am is the queen of nicknames because she got another one 😭
“baby sprout” (since she was dressed in green and she was the shortest one there)

Something Old and Something New — Part Three
Mechanic!Dean Winchester x Reader
Summary: When life takes a turn and you take an unexpected break from college in Stanford with your best friend Sam, you return home to your job at your family’s co-owned garage. You return home to work alongside the guy you thought you hated—Dean Winchester.
Word Count: 4.4k
Warnings: angst, mild swearing, mentions of alcohol, jealousy, arguing, fluff
Tumblr media
Today was the day.
The day your best friend Sam would be back in town any minute now. The day you’d see the expression to match the words he’d spoken to you on the phone just a few nights back. You told him about Stanford, about the way you felt uncertain of your return there and the way you felt about finishing your degree. Of the way you felt you might not have wanted to go there in the first place. Well, you did, but the beginning always seemed to be different.
But you told him. You finally broke it to him after days and days of stewing on it since you’d come back home, after days and weeks and months of letting it simmer back at college. No matter how much you gave yourself a pep talk for that conversation, told yourself it’d be fine and no matter how many deep breaths you took, you still found yourself shaking as you held your phone to your ear.
He was just as understanding as you thought he’d be, a quality Sam Winchester had that would never falter. You could hear it in the way he sighed on the other end, not one of disappointment but one sounding as though he’d already known this phone call was going to happen. You were sure he did, you don’t think you were great at hiding your discontent, but it only did so much to soothe your nerves on the subject. Because truthfully, it was still a big deal, still a big decision that you seemingly already made for yourself without having gone through with it.
But the weight that sat heavy on your shoulders felt a little lighter, that tension easing a little more.
Now, now you’re at Benny’s house, lights strung from the back porch just waiting to be switched on in the evening hours. The ones he’d used each and every time an event like this happened in the warmer months. The grill was going and cooking some of the best food you’d ever have, the smell of it filling the air and making its way into the house. Lawn chairs were set up in the backyard as family and friends made their way in until the whole group had arrived and filled the late Saturday afternoon air with the boisterous cheer that came with them.
Mary had brought her family famous homemade apple pies, a slice already taken out of one of them with only Dean to blame. There’s no way he would admit to it on his own despite being the pie enthusiast of the bunch, not a chance, but you knew by the scent of cinnamon on his breath when he hugged you, by the residue you swiped from the corner of his mouth that it was him. Mary knew just by the look on her son’s face, getting him a light smack to the back of his head for digging in.
Bobby had brought more than enough beer and Jody just the same but you were sure the accidental blunder wouldn’t be a problem with this group.
It was shaping up to be a nice afternoon, the sun shining goldenly and the fresh air warm, a gentle breeze sifting through at just the right speed. The garage was closed for the weekend, offering a little break from some work for the first time in a few weeks. Benny’s old radio sat tucked on the back porch, classic rock playing as expected but it was more so playing softly in the background of everyone’s conversations more than anything at that point.
You wouldn’t miss these occasions for anything.
It wasn’t until then that your eyes laid on the younger Winchester as he walked out of the back door to join everyone else, a grocery bag of chips and pretzels in his hand and a smile on his face at the sight of his family talking amongst themselves in the comfort of the yard.
You were the first to get on your feet and hug him, arms tight around him and he nearly dropped the stuff in his hand. It was safe to say you missed him over the time you’d spent away from Stanford, and you were sure that much was obvious.
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you missed me,” he chuckles, his free arm wrapping around you. You squeeze him all the more tightly, a hum having been your response as your smile stays the same. “And here I thought you abandoned me.”
You looked up at him then, lips pursed and gaze narrowed. “You know that wouldn’t happen in a million years.”
“I know, I know,” he says, eyes rolling lightheartedly as he smiles.
“Well if it isn’t my baby brother,” a voice sounds, that ever familiar voice, rumbling just behind you deeply.
“Do you have to say that every time?” Sam huffs, humor on the edge of his words as the corner of his mouth quirks up, his brow raised in an effort to maintain at least a little annoyance at his brother’s choice of words.
“You’re damn right I do. What kinda big brother do I look like?”
Sam tilted his head, biting the inside of his cheek as he set the bag down. “Do you really want me to answer that?”
The humor in Dean’s expression dwindled in that moment at Sam’s words, lips pursing before the corner of his mouth tugs upwards once more. “C’mere, Sammy.”
He tugs him in close for a hug and a pat on his back, his smile quick to return.
Things went as good as ever the more the day went on, the afternoon slipping into the evening as the burgers and barbecue rapidly became less and less until it’d been eaten. Dean had been responsible for at least three burgers and another two slices of pie, having you hot on his heels in a close second.
An old football had been tossed around, paired with a game or two of catch that’d become very close to turning competitive once Dean got ahold of his old mitt and you found yourself taking a turn up against him. Turns out you were far better than he expected, far better than you let on, and the surprise on his face had given you more than enough amusement.
You’ve got a few tricks up your sleeve and Dean was quickly starting to realize that.
Now you’d been looking for him as the sun dipped down lower in the sky, the chilly evening air beginning to take hold.
You laid your eyes on the green eyed Winchester, the one you’d found yourself wanting to see since he’d disappeared earlier that day after he gave Sam the hug you knew he’d get. You weren’t exactly sure just when it was that he’d run off, or if he even had for that matter, but your habit of scanning the room for him had left you coming up short each and every time you’d done it until now.
You caught sight of him on the back porch, the empty beer bottle in his hand being tossed in the recycling bin as he stood over the near empty cooler. It wasn’t until you’d walked up to him with crossed arms that he looked up, squinting against the setting sun to get a glimpse of you.
“Would you look who it is?” He says, digging around for the beer he likes.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
He shrugs his shoulders, a smile playing on his lips.
“Feel like I haven’t seen you all day, sweetheart,” he says as he swipes another beer from the cooler before closing the lid, standing upright again.
“And here I thought you’d run off ‘cause I beat you at your own game of ball,” you said, watching his eyes roll as you look up at him with a half-grin. “Seriously, what’s going on with you?”
He looked up at you briefly, the corner of his mouth quirking upwards as a laugh puffed out through his nose, one that’s half-humorous.
“Nothing,” he says.
You nod with a hum, entirely unconvinced as you stood there in front of him and he knew that, could tell by that look you’re giving him. You’d be right not to believe him, but he won’t admit it. He wouldn’t admit to the jealousy that simmered in the very pit of his stomach each time Sam stole your attention. He wouldn’t because he felt stupid for feeling that way. For feeling it over the fact that you’d spent most of the afternoon with Sam the moment he’d arrived.
He was your best friend, he knew it’d happen and he knew it with the way you talked about Sam, eyes bright and smile beaming at the mention of his brother. It made his stomach twist and churn and he knew it shouldn’t have, he knew he shouldn’t have been feeling that tight coil of jealousy building within himself over the mere thought of it but his mind took every scenario and ran with it. He felt childish but he couldn’t help it either.
He found himself wanting to be selfish and have you all to himself, but part of him told himself that’d be absurd. You were Y/n, the one he bickered with and the one that got on his nerves on a good day. But he knew that was changing, he knew it from the moment he started thinking about you more often than not, by the very way he enjoyed your company, having realized there might never have been a time he didn’t save for when you were kids who picked on each other.
He knew it was different and maybe that was the problem, and maybe he did run off for a little while just to ignore the way you spent time with Sam.
“You’re a terrible liar, you know,” you said, nudging his boot with your shoe.
“Is that right, sweetheart?” He asks, taking a sip from his beer, then another.
“Yeah, it is, Winchester,” you say, a smile pulling at your lips. You glanced over your shoulder, eyeing two empty lawn chairs across the yard. “I don’t suppose you’re too grumpy to sit with me, are you?”
Your smile widens as you watch his brows furrow, a scoff leaving his lips as you turn on your heel and head towards the chairs.
“Grumpy? Who says I’m grumpy?” He says behind you.
You sigh as you sit down, trying not to take notice of the way he pulls his chair just a little closer to your own as you sit paces away from the fire Benny and Bobby sparked up in the pit. He tucked his beer in the cup holder, crossing one ankle over the other before tipping his head back against the back of his chair, a smile on his lips.
“What?” You ask, the curiosity in your tone as you sit up a little straight.
“Nothin’,” he mumbles, head shaking as his eyes fall closed for a moment.
“Dean, spit it out,” you say, swatting lightly at his shoulder.
You watched the grin on his lips widen a fraction, lips pursing to try and hide it but failing miserably. “It seems to me like you miss my company.”
It was your turn to scoff as you rolled your eyes, “don’t get ahead of yourself, Winchester.”
But he knew better than to believe that, because you can deny it all you want but the tone in your voice says otherwise. He can hear your smile in your words, and upon stealing a glance at you, he sees that very smile as you shake your head in faux annoyance.
You tug your flannel tighter around yourself as you stretch your legs for a moment, taking notice of the way the arms of your chairs had been brushing over top of each other, of the way you’d been close enough to bump elbows. You tried not to think of the fact that he’d put himself that much closer to you on his own, for reasons you hadn’t been aware of.
You tried not to let that flutter in your stomach go awry, tried not to let it burst into more like a kid with a crush because that would simply be foolish. Tried not to dwell on the fact that he’d been sitting with you, at the way you’d made him smile, otherwise your cheeks would burn and burn, hotter than the fire in front of you.
The transition between two people determined to annoy the other to the best of their abilities, and the way the two of you acted now had been one you didn’t quite know how you got to. You came back to Kansas with dread knotting up inside your stomach at the mere mention of the older Winchester, the very thought of him having you roll your eyes. To be fair, you still do that quite a bit, but now you find yourself seeking out his company when he strays a little too far. Now you find yourself smiling like a fool in his presence in a way that has you hiding it behind wit and humor.
You had no idea he’d felt the very same way.
You looked over to him, eyes on him as he looked ahead. The glow of the fire danced across his skin, shadowing every contour of his face, illuminating the sheen of sweat glimmering lightly over the bridge of his freckled nose.
You watched as he took a swig of his beer before putting the bottle in its rightful spot, his gaze shifting to you in a moment’s notice.
“What?” He asked, the single word amused as he caught you staring.
The corner of your mouth darts upward and you look away, head shaking and heart fluttering. “Nothin’.”
You heard his snort, knew he was shaking his head just as much as you were. “If anyone’s the terrible liar here, it’s you, sweetheart.”
It’s your turn to laugh as you look at your lap, a moment passing before you look over at him once more. “‘M serious. It’s nothing, De.”
“Right, right. Whatever you say.”
He caught your gaze as his smile mirrored your own, green eyes glimmering against the light of the flames just feet away as those dimples by the very corners of his mouth appear ever so slightly. The teasing behind your grin softened considerably to a genuine smile, his knee nudging yours in a lightheartedly action to accompany his words.
It wasn’t until that moment that you were aware of just how close you’d been, close enough to feel his breath sweep over your lips and to smell the cinnamon of the pie he’d eaten. Close enough to have your cheeks burning over it.
But the moment was only that.
“Y/n.” You cleared your throat as you sat a little straighter in your chair, head turning in the direction of Sam’s voice. He stood there, hand running through his hair as he suppressed a yawn. “Ready to head home for the night?”
You smiled softly at him, nodding. You missed the way the softness of Dean’s grin had fallen as his jaw tensed ever so slightly, the inside of his cheek sitting between his teeth.
You were in a daze for a brief moment as you sat on the edge of your seat before you turned to Dean, hand reaching up to grab his chin softly in a lighthearted pinch, the pad of your thumb resting over the dimple sitting pretty in it.
“Night, Dean,” you say, getting up from where you sat with him.
He smiles softly, swallowing thickly as he watches you stand there. He swallowed down that feeling bubbling up and threatening to spill out. Because it was him that you rode with to Benny’s house that day, listening to Zeppelin with the windows down. It was him that you’d been seemingly content with riding along with, and it was him that had plans to drive you back home. And now those plans had changed and there he sat by himself as you smiled that smile at him with his brother just over your shoulder.
“Night, sweetheart.”
Things were different.
Things were vastly different from what they were nearly three weeks ago back at your Uncle Benny’s. And things were a whole new kind of different from the time you first came back to that very day in question when Sam had come back into town.
You don’t know what it was, couldn’t narrow down the possibilities of what could have changed between you and Dean, what could have changed him. Maybe it was something that you’d never end up knowing in the long run, and maybe it was nothing at all. Maybe the days and weeks you’d spent working alongside one another without so much of that bickering, no matter how lighthearted, was just that.
He was happy as ever to see his brother, you knew for a fact he would be because that’s how it’s always been. But ever since that get-together, it was different.
“What is your problem?”
He snorted, his laugh void of humor as he looked away, tongue swiping along the inside of his cheek that was all telling of the anger that was simmering in the pit of his stomach.
“I don’t have one, sweetheart,” he says, the nickname less than fond in that moment as he tossed an empty bottle of oil in the trash to his right, taking the rag in his hand to wipe away the little bit of mess he made having been far too distracted thinking about you with that crease between his brows, that brooding frown on his lips.
You knew for a fact his words have been anything but truthful, the complete opposite as you stand in front of him, watching his attention pull from you in favor of looking under the hood of the car he’d been working on. A job that easily could have been done by now had his mind not been so preoccupied with the very person who’d asked him what his problem was.
He knew you saw right through him, he was a terrible liar when it came to you and he knew that. It’s not like it hadn’t been so terribly obvious that he had one, it was just as close to saying he did without actually saying it.
You saw it with the way he didn’t linger at the front desk as often to talk to you, to swipe the candy you’d had in that jar you kept just to see you roll your eyes. You saw it with the way he’d struck up fewer conversations, more about work and less about personal talk. At the crease etched deeper between his brows and the dimples pressed at the corners of his mouth in a display of his discontent. It was different and it was quiet.
Actions all staved off by the occasional smile. He still brought you coffee and he still waited for you to drive off first at closing time. But it was lined with an edge of tension.
“You’re lying,” you say, brows furrowing as you cross your arms over your chest.
“I’m not lying, Y/n. I’m busy,” he mumbles, tugging his hand away and shaking it out when his finger gets poked by a jagged car part.
“You’re being weird, Dean,” you press, insistent to pull whatever he’s got going on out of him to talk about it. He is acting weird and you know it. If the days and weeks and months and years you’d known Dean Winchester, he hasn’t quite acted like this.
He straightens his stance a bit more as he turns to face you with a glance on the brink of being annoyed, a huff blowing past his lips. You simply raise your brow in your own persistence, lips pursed lightly.
“Are you done?”
“Not until you tell me why you’re acting weird. And don’t tell me there’s nothing ‘cause I know you a little better than that,” you say, watching his brows drop from how they were raised, those very dimples by his mouth deepening as he stands mere inches from you and casts his gaze down at you.
“Just having an off day. ‘S that a good enough answer for you, sweetheart?” He asks, the corner of his mouth quirking up.
“No,” you say. You watch as he rolls his eyes and shakes his head, turning in his heel with a chuckle as he continues his work. “Considering you’ve been like this ever since Benny’s barbecue, it’s not a good enough answer.”
“Then tell me, Y/n. My baby brother came home from college for the first time in months. Do enlighten me on what it was that day that could possibly make me Oscar the Grouch,” he says, flashing you a look.
You heave a sigh, heavy and impatient as you bite the inside of your cheek, feeling as though you’re going in circles with no end in sight. His stubbornness was stronger than ever in that moment as he brushed everything off, as he acted nonchalant despite the clear irritation simmering away within him.
“Would it kill you to be straightforward, Dean?” You ask, your own annoyance wrapping around every word. “Seriously, what’s your problem?”
“Why don’t you ask Sammy?” He says, voice low and muffled from where he stood facing away from you.
You frown in confusion at the question. “What?”
“I said why don’t you ask Sammy?” He repeats, and now you’re sure you heard him correctly as he turns his head but still avoids your gaze.
You try to make sense of what he’d just said, standing still in your spot as you watch his white-knuckled grip on the edge of the car’s front end. Of the crease between his brows and the tension increasing in his jaw that told you he wasn’t joking, that he was in fact very serious.
It took a second, a minute even, before it clicked for you. “Wait a minute, are you jealous?”
He laughs then, bitter as he wipes the grease from his hands on the tattered rag he kept tucked in his back pocket.
“You think I’m jealous of my brother?” He says, tone full of a surprise you knew wasn’t real.
“Yeah, Dean, I do,” you say, gazing up at him. “You’ve been acting weird ever since I told you Sam was coming home to visit, and now it makes sense why.”
“Easy there, detective. Don’t get ahead of yourself,” he says, trying his hardest to stave off the way his heart had been hammering in his chest and the way he wanted so badly to admit that maybe he was, even though it’d been painfully obvious.
He wouldn’t though, he’d keep being stubborn because he felt that was in his best interest to be.
“You always do this,” you huff, your frustration evident.
“Do what?”
“You keep skirting around the obvious, Dean. You always do that when you don’t want to talk about something. I know that about you. You can say otherwise all you want, I don’t really care,” you say, voice rising slightly in your anger as you feel your cheeks burn. Your chest heaved a bit more than normal, heart pounding in your chest as you stared up at him. “Why can’t you just admit it?”
His gaze on you is stoic, nostrils flaring and lips still pursed as he looks down at you. The flurry of emotions he felt was a little harder to see outwardly, but you knew they were there. You knew it just like you knew there had to be a myriad of thoughts running through his head, but what they’d been about was something you didn’t.
Moments passed like that, seconds, until his expression changed, a humorless chuckle rumbling in the back of his throat as he shook his head.
“For not wanting to be a lawyer, you damn sure know how to argue,” he said, a bite behind his words that had your cheeks burning hotter.
Now it’s your turn to laugh, partly out of surprise at his words, and partly to stave off the tears that pressed heavily behind your eyes the more you thought about them. The hurt you felt in that moment had struck you harder than you cared to admit, not so much at his dig as the very fact that you were arguing with him to begin with.
It wasn’t unlike the two of you to toss around witty comments about the other, to bicker over anything, most often lightheartedly. The two of you had been like that with each other your entire lives. But this, this was different. It was different because you enjoyed his company more often than not. It was different because you knew you didn’t hate him, you don’t think you ever did.
“Maybe I will go back to Stanford with Sam. You know, since I’m such an outstanding lawyer.”
You watch as he nodded, the corner of his mouth quirking upwards as he looked away for a moment and really thought about what you said. Of the very words spoken out of anger just to make him angry and it worked. He didn’t know the meaning of your words other than the way they fed the jealousy brewing in the pit of his stomach, a feeling that was rapidly beginning to boil over.
“That’s a great idea. Hell, I’ll even pack your bags,” he says, smug and entirely amused as he watches your brows furrow.
It wasn’t until you shook your head, it wasn’t until he saw the way your eyes glossed over and your expression turned angrier in an attempt to hide that vulnerability that his amusement dissolved. Without another word, you swiped your keys from the counter, strong-willed as you twist the doorknob and leave, slamming the door behind you.
His jaw tenses and his lip quivered under his anger, flinching at the action and fist clenching as he turned away from the door as he stood alone. Before he could give it second thought he threw the rag in his hand down, arm sweeping over his workbench and sending every tool that sat on it to clatter to the ground in a heap of metallic clinks that echoed in the empty garage. He ran his hands through his hair and drug them down his face, exhaling a huff.
He had you. He had you and he blew it.

Totally random thought I had right as I am going to bed but ya know that show "I didn't know I was pregnant"? Buck would be on that show lol the boy is oblivious when it comes to his own body, so like I can perfectly picture him collapsing on the job one day wracked with pain, and then Hen is poking around his stomach where it hurts, her, Buck and Eddie packed into the back of the ambulance as Chim and Bobby drive to the hospital, and she gets out the stethoscope to try and listen for internal bleeding or anything but instead finds an infant heartrate and she's like "Buck, you're pregnant?" And he's like "uh, no? What the hell?" And then his water breaks and he tries to convince hen and Eddie that he had an accident bc even that would be a better alternative to suddenly figuring out he's about to have a baby???? What the fuck???? But Eddie holds his hand all the way through it and by the time they get to the hospital, Buck has a healthy newborn cradled against his chest, Eddie knelt beside him and alternating between kissing buck and the baby on the head, and observing the baby in disbelief. I can also picture Buck like, sobbing his sorry's to Eddie the entire time he's pushing, like "Eddie I swear I had no idea, if I had known, I would have told you!" And Eddie is just reassuring him the entire time like "don't worry about that now, Buck, just concentrate. No one is mad, okay? But you gotta focus on the- on the baby" and buck just sobs and nods and focuses on the delivery again. But for a good while Buck is in denial that any of this is happening and it takes a lot of convincing and encouragement from both hen and Eddie for him to start actively participating in his baby's birth. Anyways, random half asleep thought is finished sorry for the long ask hdshsjjsjdbsjsj
WELL SHIT ok so i actually love that show and i could see buck doing this lmao so i wrote a thing. also ignore all medical inaccuracies, this is my distraction from monday lmao let me have this wildly inept fic pls.
also just in case, it’s pretty brief, i think, but TW for talk of weight and weight gain
It's nearing the end of their shift now and Buck can almost hear his feet howling at him in pain. Today hadn't even really been all that busy, he thinks, annoyed at his own body's betrayal. He's not even thirty yet, but in the last couple of months he's felt as though he's aged about ten years.
He's put on a few pounds, which isn't too uncommon, sometimes Buck goes through stretches of time where he eats more carbs than he needs and works out less than he'd like and so a little tummy fat is to be expected.
It normally doesn't bother him, except that in the last maybe three months he hasn't felt like exercising much outside of work but he's eaten nearly everything in sight every night. He's up about fifteen pounds, which he wouldn't have even noticed, seeing that he does fluctuate at times anywhere between five to eight pounds over or under what he usually weighs, if it hadn't been for Chimney teasing him about putting down his third Krispy Kreme donut of the day and picking up a barbell earlier this morning.
Chim and Buck poke fun at each other all the time--it's a staple in their friendship and brother ship, in fact--and Buck had flipped him the bird, nothing new there. What had been new was the fact that he'd excused himself to the bathroom right after that and locked himself in a stall and bawled his eyes out as quietly as humanly possible.
Buck grimaces, embarrassed still, by the outburst, even if no one had been there to witness it. He still has no idea what the hell that had been about this morning.
Eddie notices the sour mood and pulls him in close. "Hey, you ok?"
Buck nods. "Yeah, just tired. Ready to go home--shit." Buck feels a shooting pain so intense his knees buckle and Eddie has to hold him upright to keep him from hitting the floor.
“Woah!” Eddie calls Bobby over, who’s closest, for help, “Buck? Buck, you with me? What’s wrong? What hurts?”
Buck just shakes his head and grits his teeth, the pain so debilitating he can hardly breathe much less speak.
The Captain is on his other side in an instant and together Eddie and Bobby help Buck towards the couch, where he collapses in a heap, throwing his head back and letting out an agonized whine. “What’s going on? Did he get hurt during one of the calls?” Bobby asks Eddie, frantic to help put a stop to this.
Eddie’s helpless, “Bobby I don’t know, one second we were talking about going home and the next he practically fell to the floor in pain.” he turns to face his husband, “Baby, I’m here, look at me, what’s the matter? What hurts?”
Buck’s face scrunches up and he finally exhales sharply, his grip on the couch cushions loosening, and he opens his eyes, wide like saucers, and says, “What the fuck was that?”
At this point Hen and Chim, as well as half the crew, have gathered around and Hen is quick to put on her doctors hat and try to sus out the problem. She makes Bobby step aside and Chimney hands her a stethoscope. “Buck, is it your stomach?” she asks, noticing the stiff way he’s holding himself around his midriff.
“I don’t--kinda? I don’t know. It was just like, this crazy wave of pain, almost like a cramp, but way worse.” he struggles to describe the feeling now that it’s more or less passed for the time being.
Hen had seen Buck wince when he’d been in the harness on the last call of the day, but he hadn’t said anything and she hadn’t thought too much about it until now. “Did you hurt yourself in the harness earlier? Maybe pulled something when we reeled you back up?” she asks, palpitating his stomach with her fingers, watching him almost retract from her touch.
“Maybe?” Buck shrugs uncomfortably, wincing when she hits a particularly sore spot.
Something about this feels familiar and strangely obvious, but Hen doesn’t understand why until she puts her stethoscope up to his belly to check for lack of bowel sounds, indicating maybe some internal bleeding or sorts.
Hen gasps out loud and sits up like she’s been smacked.
Eddie frowns. “What? What’s wrong? Is he gonna be ok?” He almost wants to snatch the damn stethoscope out of her ears and check for himself, his eyes darting between Hen and Buck nervously.
“Buck, you’re pregnant. And in labor, by the sounds of it.” Hen blurts out in disbelief.
“What.” Buck blinks at her, waiting for the other shoe to drop. This has to be a joke.
“I heard a heartbeat in there...” Hen informs them, still awed. “Buck, that was a contraction you just experienced.”
Eddie gapes at Hen and then at Buck. “You’re pregnant?”
Buck gapes right back at him. “No!” he denies, shaking his head incredulously. “That’s insane, I can’t be pregn--ah--” Buck leans forward in pain as another contraction begins. “Fuck.”
“Jesus, yeah, no you’re definitely pregnant,” Chim announces, “Your water just broke all over my favorite couch, bud. I’m getting the ambulance ready asap.” he says, before running to do just that, head reeling. He thinks about Maddie and when she gave birth to their daughter and how scared out of his mind he’d been and he sympathizes for Buck and Eddie, who up until now apparently hadn’t even realizes they were expecting...
Back at the lounge Buck continues to deny any of this is even happening. He whines into Eddie’s chest, “That’s pee, it has to be, because I’m not pregnant. There’s no way.” he lets out a pitiful whimper as another contraction begins and buries his face against his husband to hide the tears springing up in his eyes.
“Buck, son, we gotta get you to a hospital right now.” Bobby tries, running a soothing hand over the top of his head.
But Buck shakes his head no, shuddering out a sob. “M’not going.”
Eddie, overwhelmed, looks to Hen and Bobby for help.
“Buck, ambulance is ready to go, we need to move unless you wanna have this kid at the firehouse.” Hen grimaces. “I know you’re in pain and I know you’re confused and hurting, but we need to get you into that ambulance and now.”
Buck cries out when another contraction hits him and Hen gulps. “Your contractions are getting way too close together, we need to move.” she nods at her Captain and Eddie to help get Buck up and together the three of them manage to get Buck onto a gurney and into the waiting ambulance.
Bobby rides up front with Chimney, leaving Hen and Eddie to work in the back with Buck.
“Buck, you need to start getting ready to push, this baby’s coming.” Hen warns him, but Buck refuses.
“I can’t.” he sobs. “I didn’t--” he throws his head back, the pain lighting his nerves on fire. “I swear Eddie, I didn’t know. You gotta believe me.”
Eddie takes Bucks hand into his and brings it up to his lips. “I know baby, I know, you don’t have to worry about that. I promise. Nobody is mad at you, ok? I’m not. But right now you need to focus on pushing, you need to listen to Hen, ok? We’re ok, and you’re gonna be ok, but I need you to push, baby. I love you so much, you know that, right?”
Buck lets Eddie wipe away his tears, leans into the comforting touch, and nods shakily, exhaling. “O-ok, I’m--I’m ready.”

The baby is so very tiny in Eddie’s arms.
Olive Buckley-Diaz is born weighing exactly six pounds and two ounces.
Christopher, who’s curled up against Bucks side on the hospital bed after a very exhausting day, looks up at his Buck, his little brow still knitted in confusion. “So she was a surprise baby? And that’s how come you guys didn’t tell me about her?”
Buck tries not to laugh. “Yeah bud, it was a huge surprise to us, too.”
Eddie nods along, smiling fondly down at the bundle he’s holding. Her blotchy red face is slack in sleep and there’s already tufts of brown hair sticking up funnily on her head under her hat. “I still can’t believe you only gained like fifteen pounds during the whole pregnancy.” Eddie chuckles, “Or that you worked through the nine months, God Buck, when I think of the stunts you pulled during calls in the last few months alone I’m--” he shudders. “Actually I’d rather not think about it.” he sighs, “I’m just happy you’re both healthy at the end of the day.”
Really, it’s a miracle. The doctor had said as much after the delivery.
“To be fair I never got any of the other symptoms,” Buck shrugs. “I wasn’t nauseous, my feet never swelled, I don’t remember any weird cravings? And you said it yourself, I didn’t really gain all that much weight.”
Eddie leans down to kiss Buck’s forehead. “You should be on that show.” he grins.
Buck tilts his head.
“You know the one, the one Hen made us watch when work was slow that one time. ‘I didn’t know I was pregnant’.” he teases.
Buck groans. “I regret all the jokes I made at the time. I totally get those people now. Pregnancy is weird.”
Christopher rests his head more comfortably against Bucks chest and smiles softly. “Yeah, but now our family’s even bigger.”

By Tuesday afternoon, I was beside myself. Seeing patients again, but distraught. The office was a hot mess - so many new girls, crowding the hallways and desks, mostly being trained by people who also didn’t know what they were doing. My schedule was a hot mess - they’d overbooked me, with all the patients I was supposed to see the day before but had been rescheduled. And my mind was a hot mess - surrounded by not only all these new women (I’d kept my head down, sneaking into my office between patients when I could, and hadn’t really introduced myself to anyone yet) but also by the din of construction and random dudes walking down the hallways from time to time...
For some reason the presence of guys - mostly strapping young men in hard hats and t-shirts - upset me more than the bustle of bimbos giggling and pointing at me as I snuck from patient to patient. Maybe I was imagining it, but they seemed to look at me funny, askance, with a condemnatory eye. In particular I’d seen that one with the shaved head and tattoos, the tall one who’d disappeared with Melissa from the parking lot this morning. He was the one hanging around the most, glaring at me snidely. It was jealousy, I knew, that was tightening my chest whenever I saw him - an unreasonable reaction, not an emotion I should be feeling; Melissa was not mine to covet. But when, right around lunchtime, I saw the door to Melissa’s office open and him get pulled inside? Well, my blood began to roil. She’d made no effort to see me all day, and now this??
What were they doing in there?? Would she be having him take more pictures of her for Instagram? Would she be changing into new outfits for her followers, bikinis and lingerie? Would he be bending her over her desk and-
I knew I was being crazy, jealous, stupid. I had no reason to suspect any of this. But still I couldn’t stand it. So, finally, I broke. Right around 3pm.
“Can you tell Melissa I need to see her in my office?” I told Aubrey. She was standing behind the front desk with Brittni and Bobbi and three new people, training. It was pretty crowded back there.
“Of course, Doctor,” said the slight, pretty girl with the dark, pixie haircut. Aubrey had always been one of my best, most loyal employees. Quiet, serious when she needed to be. Less flighty for sure than most of the women that worked for me now. Take, for example, Brittni and Bobbi and now I guess these three new ones that I recognized from their jiggly applications; they were all looking at me and quietly giggling. Aubrey - since our front desk manager had left - was trying to get everyone trained. Piles of paperwork were everywhere.
“Okay I’ll head there right away,” I said, turning on my heel and knocking over a mound of charts from the counter.
“Don’t worry Doctor I’ll get that…” Aubrey offered, as I quickly moved away. Snickers followed in my wake.
Finding the hallway that led to my office mostly quiet, I turned a corner and -
“Oh, therrrre you are!” Melissa beamed, stopping me in my tracks. I felt my eyes go wide and my heart leap into my throat. I hadn’t really seen her since Friday and I was struck again by just how tall she was. Heels, yes, but my head came just up to her upper chest, if that. She made me feel smaller, in spades, than even the biggest of the construction workers.
She took a step towards me.
“Hey, uh….m-m-my office?” I stammered, trying to direct her but unable to keep my eyes from a quick trip up and down her unbelievable figure. The red heels, the sleek, bell-cuffed black pants, the tight, high-necked top. The hair, the eyes, and those knockers.
“Why don’t we talk here?” she returned, stepping in again closer to me.
I took a backpedal in retreat, turned my back to the wall. My eyes went wide again as she planted her right hand on the wall behind me, just above my head, between me and where I’d been heading. The door to my office was just steps away to my left, but now it might have been a mile. “o-okay, sure…” I yielded.
“So happy you finally want to say hi,” she said, with her left hand now coming up at my other side, placing itself just aside my head on the right. Now I was trapped, penned in, faced with a wall of woman. “I’ve missed youuuu…”
Tumblr media
I swallowed dryly, suddenly assaulted with a barrage of feelings and a heady cloud of her captivating perfume. “Oh? Uh, y-yeah, haha, sorry,” I started, beginning to explain my absence, “I’ve been out of it. It’s, uh...all the construction, the noise. Kept me up last night, I’m exhausted…”
“Oh you poor thing…” she cooed, her smile turning crooked, weight shifting on her feet. Her right leg had bent, knee pushing in aggressively towards my groin. “I’m sorrrry…”
I couldn’t help but feel like I’d been captured, and she was possesively trifling with me - here, out in the open, in the hallway where anyone could see. But, from my position, I also couldn’t help but notice how her bra was just visible through her too-tight top, and that her breasts looked enormous today.
“uhhhhh….” I tried, struggling to remember what I’d wanted to talk to her about in the first place. Oh yeah.  “...and now they’re all milling around here. I saw, uh...one guy go into your office, earlier?”
“AJ? Oh...yeah, Angie’s ex,” Melissa explained, eyes narrowing, “She’s one of the new girls, a friend of mine, just broke up with him. He’s pretty upset. I invited him in for lunch...”
“Oh, uh, lunch?”
“Yes,” Melissa answered, a funny tone in her voice, “He bought a salad for me.”
Of course she’d like someone like him. He’s tall, strong, pretty good looking. He’s closer to her age...
Melissa looked down at me, regarded me, watched me thinking. “What’s wrong?” she finally asked.
“I...I don’t like him,” I too quickly answered, glancing down at the safety of my feet, speaking before thinking, “He...he looks at me funny.”
“Ohhhhhh….is that it?” She sounded amused.
I couldn’t tell her that, no, that wasn’t it, really. The sideways glances from these dudes I could handle. What I was struggling with, what I couldn’t tell her, was that he made me so fucking jealous. No way I could admit that, not to her. It would be weak, sniveling, petty and unprofessional. Plus I was married, still, and needed to hide my feelings for my new Office Manager deep deep deep. I could not let Melissa know how jealous I was.
But, when I looked up into her face, and she leaned down in to bring her face closer to mine, I could tell she saw right through me...

“Do they scare you? The big scary construction workers?” she giggled, teasing me, “Do they make you feel...unsafe? They are all so much bigger than you...” Overhead, one of the fluorescent lights flickered.
“Melissa, c’mon,” I pleaded, sounding much more pathetic than I wanted. I could tell she knew how I really felt, that it was my unreasonable jealousy that was making me upset. That fact? She loved it. But that I was denying it? For that, she wanted to torture me a bit.
“Awww did you hear that ladies?” Melissa called out, to the tall forms that had just started to appear in the hallway behind her, the voices I had begun to hear, “Dr. J here doesn’t like having all the big, noisy men in the building…”
Suddenly, two other girls appeared aside Melissa, one on each side. My eyes shot from one, redhead and statuesque in a blue top, to the other, chocolate-skinned and bosomy, dressed in green. Both were tall, taller than me, I couldn’t help but realize.
Tumblr media
“I agree, I don’t like it either,” said the girl to Melissa’s left.
“Me neither,” said the other, “We should get rid of them…”
“Then it’d be just us…” the dark skinned girl replied.
“Dr. J,” Melissa said, in introduction, “this is Bianca…”
“Hi,” said the girl in blue, inching closer.
“...and this is Shanette.”
“Hi,” said the one in green, stepping in as well.
If I had been faced by a wall of woman before, it had now been fortified. Everywhere I looked, it was boob.
One of the overhead lights flickered again.
“We don’t like tall men, do we girls?” Melissa asked.
“Big guys? Yuckie,” followed Shanette.
“Yeah, gross,” said Bianca, her voice a natural purr, “We like our men short…”
“Helpless…”  cued Shanette, biting her plump lower lip as she looked down at me.
“...weak…” smiled Bianca.
“...needy,” Shanette finished.
By now, the three girls had me all but plastered to the wall. Melissa did nothing but smile down at me, apparently enjoying every moment of my well-deserved distress as these new girls soaked me in. Finally, though, she spoke. “See? No reason to be jealous, Doctor J-“
“I wasn’t jeal-“
“...it’s like I’ve been telling you,” she continued, speaking right over me, “It’s the thing. Girls want their men vulni these days, and you…”
“You are- rrrrrrrrrrr….” Bianca...growled?
“...you’re perfect,” Shanette giggled.
“And, no reason to be scared, sweetie,” Melissa assured me, though the current situation - I felt like I was about to be squashed into a girl sandwich - gave me more than enough to be frightened about, “You don’t have to worry about the big, mean men.”
“We’ll keep you safe,” Bianca promised, her eyes gleaming with portent, “don’t you give it another thought.”
“We’re all here to take care of you,” Shanette cooed, her expression growing softer by the moment, “it’s all we want…”
Unsure of what to say, I looked from one girl, to the other, and then back to Melissa. She merely smiled, closed her eyes to take a deep breath, and then opened them again as she spoke. “You see, sweetie? You see what kind of girls I hired for you?” she said, and leaned in to whisper down into my ear, “I did such a good job…”
Her melony breasts squashed into my neck, her voice in my ear.
“...won’t you just accept that?”

Best Friends Who Kiss? - Luke Patterson x Reader
“Can you make one where I’m best friends with Luke and everyone else (But little does Luke know I actually love him, everyone else can see it, but him.) I’ve liked him almost all my life...”
(This is the least amount of dialogue I’ve written in awhile, but with the way that it was requested, this style just felt right. let me know if you hate this style?)
Tumblr media
It started out at recess in 2nd grade. She sat on the swings alone when he approached her, sitting in the adjacent seat. She looked up and smiled at him, and he, toothless and all, introduced himself to her.
“I’m Luke.”
After that, she was there through all of his fights with his mom, all of the ego-driven fights he had with Bobby over creative rights to their band's music, and the heartbreak over girls she barely knew. He was there through for her through all the trauma that came with her dad’s anger issues, her lackluster love life stories, and her frustration stemming from her art and her lack of confidence.
The rest was history. Quite literally after the accident. There was one thing that was for certain, that Y/N’s feelings for Luke stayed the same in life and death. His were a little less clear. After entering the world of 2020, they met Julie and she saw a spark in him that she had missed, even when he was playing with Bobby and the boys.
Luke started playing the guitar and singing back up vocals for Julie with the band, and the fire in his eyes was rekindled. Sometimes she sat in on rehearsals, but most of the time Luke was so preoccupied he didn’t even really speak to her the entire time she was there.
She started leaving a little earlier every day before rehearsal ended, making her way back to the park where they met in hopes that he’d join her. He never did, but she’d sit in the swing for a while and think about him and different moments between them.
Like the time when they were 11 and they were riding bikes when Luke fell and broke his arm in two places. She remembered him pointing to her in the emergency room and demanding that she was in the room with him, otherwise, he wouldn’t go in. He got his way and she sat next to him for hours during the stay.
Or when they were 14 and Luke had his first real date that ended in disaster. He showed up on her front porch that night because he just “wanted to hear her voice” and tell her all about the tragic events. That was the night that he told her that he didn’t think anyone would ever get him the way she did. She remembered her heart fluttering at those words.
Nothing ever happened between them though, and she was convinced now that even when her emotions got the best of her, Luke’s feelings were always platonic. She watched him sway and sing with Julie with this look of admiration she hadn’t ever seen before. Their voices and energies blending so seamlessly. Julie was so kind she couldn’t even find it in her heart to get angry at her. After they visited the nightclub the day of Julie’s performance she was certain that she had to make a decision. Caleb had an offer that wouldn’t be perfect, but it would be better than wallowing in self-pity every single day and masquerading as a part of a group that didn’t even recognize when she left.
She knew the boys could fight it, but she wasn’t even sure she wanted to at this point. So tonight, she was going to do it. She was going to meet up with Caleb and accept his offer.
She grabbed her coat that was left behind in the garage when she saw one of Luke’s old flannels spread out on the couch. She grabbed it, placing it over her body before putting on her jacket. She looked around the room once more before poofing out the of the room.
The boys reentered the space after a late-night exploring, hyped on adrenaline. He spun around, looking for a nightlight or a slight lull of music that would let him know that Y/N was home. When he saw neither he began to pace around the room.
Alex stopped him in his tracks, looking at him with wide eyes “Woah, Luke chill what is going on?”
He looked up at his friend with tears raising in his eyes “Where is Y/N, you don’t think she went back to talk to Caleb, do you?”
Alex shook his head, squeezing his bandmate’s shoulders “Breath, we have no clue if that’s where she went, let’s not go all doomsday before we think about our options.
Luke nodded, trying to swallow with the knot in his throat. “She loves the beach…but it scares her to be alone there at night, even as a ghost.” He thought about it some more “She loves that record shop on 3rd…but she….wait.”
He stopped and looked at all of his friends in the dim light that sent a spotlight into the center of the room. “You guys stay here, I think I know where she is.” He left the room in a snap, transporting himself to a familiar swingset. There she sat on the swing, twirling the chains above her until she let them go and spun around quickly. A light smile fell onto her face but fell quickly as she landed at a standstill.
He was slow in his movements, inching quietly into the woodchips and sitting down without making a sound. She heard the jingling of the chains next to her and looked over panicked.
“Hey,” he said quietly, watching her face settle as her eyes met his
“Hi,” She gave him a weak smile before diverting her gaze to the stars.
“Please tell me that you’re here nostalgia's sake and not because you’re thinking about what I think you are…” He started, pumping his legs back and forth to bring himself into the air.
“I…I don’t know.”
He slowed, slamming his feet to the ground before facing her “You’re really just going to up and leave me, after all these years? You didn’t think I deserved an explanation? At least a goodbye? Y/N, I thought we knew each other better than that”
She sighed, leaning against the cold metal as she let tears softly fall down her cheeks. She finally makes eye contact with him again, shaking her head at him.
“Like you’d even notice I was gone, Luke.”
He was silent.
“Don’t get me wrong, I really like Julie and I think that she has made you a better musician… but you’ve replaced me and don’t even try to deny it. Reggie and Alex even forget that I live in the garage too half of the time. I’m like a ghost among ghosts, who even knew that was possible?!”
Her eyes fixed on the ground below her, she wanted to hear what he had to say. As he took a breath in, she shrunk a bit waiting for the worst.
“I….had no idea that you felt that way. I am, such an idiot. I haven’t even bothered to check in on you recently. Y/N I am so sorry.” She could hear his voice breaking and didn’t even need to look up to know that he was crying.
“It’s okay.”
He scoffed “Obviously it’s not fine when my best friend decides that disappearing into the night is a better option than being around me.”
She looked back up at him, shaking her head “That’s not what I meant Luke.” He stood up and walked over to her swing, standing in front of her. He leaned forward, inches away from her face. She felt her heart race at the proximity and the look in his eyes.
“Remember that night that I told you that you’re the only one who gets me?” She nodded, holding his gaze. “I meant that.”
She let the left side of her mouth raise a bit into a half-smile. Looking into his glossy eyes she got lost in so many times before, she didn’t know what to say. He didn’t wait for her to respond before continuing “I’m sorry I made you feel less than the most important person in my life because you are.”
She tried to speak but stopped her “Let me finish,” She nodded, letting him go on.
“I care about you so much, Y/N, and the fact that you even had to consider if that was true…it…” His voice shook a little as he took a breath in “It hurts a lot more than I could have ever expected.”
He got down on both knees in front of her to get at eye level. She bit down on her bottom lip as she looked at him, backlit by the moonlight and the street-lamps.
“I love you, Y/N.”
She wiped her tears onto her sleeve before responding “I love you too, Luke” He grinned at her, grabbing her cheeks into his hands and leaning in to kiss her lips. The kiss was soft and sweet and short, but it was enough to make her feel like it was a summer day on this cold autumn night. When they pulled away, he leaned his forehead against hers.
“Please come home with me, please stay.”
She looked into his eyes, feeling his thumbs rub her cheeks ever so slightly. She nodded. He smiled through his tears, standing up and extended his hand toward her. She took it and rose to meet him. They interlocked their hands and walked the long way home.

Let’s Be Kids Again ☀︎
Tumblr media
Summary: Reader is having an awful day but luckily Luke is there to help her.
Warning: Probably some language and bad grammar

Tumblr media
Honestly, two more weeks left of school, and these teachers don’t give a crap. “UGHH!!” I quickly stood up from my desk because if I keep looking at all the missing assignments and projects that I have to turn in I’m probably gonna lose my mind.
Lately, I’ve been feeling like work just keeps piling up and it’s a never-ending cycle of turning in twenty assignments by the end of the week and then still being behind on fifteen more. I should be out right now not stuck inside on a Saturday. I could’ve gone to the boy’s rehearsal and just sat there. But no here I am stuck in my bedroom with papers all over the place.
I hear a knock at my door “Sweetie Luke’s one the phone come downstairs.” I quickly open my door and bolt downstairs.
Luke and I are best friends although I don’t really like saying it because it reminds me of how much I don’t want to be friends with him. I want more. I’ve had a crush on him for a while now still trying to adapt to the new feeling. I’m not gonna say anything tho it will ruin our friendship if he doesn’t like me back and just make everything awkward between all of us.
“Hey” I heard Luke’s mom talking through the other line “Luke wash the dishes before you leave please I don’t know how you could live in your own filth” on the other side of the phone Luke rolled his eyes at his mother exaggeration, there was only three cups in the sink “yea, yea, ok”. I started giggling at his antics knowing exactly he’s only saying that so she could get off his back. He’s not really gonna do the dishes.
“Hey, ok so I was thinking we could do something tonight. Reg really wanted to go to the new carnival that just opened. Something about needing to get his future told I don’t know” he let out a sigh “what do you think?” As soon as I was about to say sure I remembered the nightmare of homework I have upstairs waiting for me. “Ugh i cant i have homework sorry Lu”
“Forget about homework you could do it another day” “Lu I can’t just forget about it it’s due in a few days” Luke is now pouting “So, you’ve done a lot over the year getting a few bad grades won’t harm you come on party pooper” suddenly a light bulb goes off in his head “Bet i can win you at bumper cars loser has to buy the other one food?” He was teasing her and he knew it. Since they were little they always did bets sometimes going to far as none of them wanted to lose. He knew she wasn’t gonna turn down a bet.
“I hate you. You know that” Luke smiled in victory. “Yes, i love you too” he said with the biggest smile ever. He loved hanging out with her. More at carnivals her unmatched energy always amazed him she was so energetic and he loved it. Someone had to keep up with him right..
“Ok find I’ll meet you at the carnival” “ok see you there” I placed the phone back on the wall and went upstairs to change. Once I was done I headed out but my dad stopped me. “Finished your homework already?” “Uh...um... yea didn’t have that much apparently” yea that was a lie but that was tomorrow’s problem. I walked out and headed to the carnival which was only a few blocks away from my house.

“Hey there trouble” ah trouble the infamous nickname that Alex gave me when we were 12. Luke had made a bet on whoever can scare Mrs. Frances, our 7th grade science teacher, the hardest got to name the their band. Because of me the bands name is Sunset Curve, a huge victory for me but I can’t say the same for Mrs. Frances. She had to eat lunch with a frog that day...ops... yea no I wasn’t sorry it was hilarious but if it wasn’t for me Sunset Curve would be named Bloody Devils cause Luke thought it was cool.
“Hey Al, oh I like your.....” I was cut off by Reggie putting his arms around me and Alex. “WHOS READY TO RIDE THE HORSES!!” Yea Reg has a thing for horses that explains ‘Home is Where my Horse is’.
“Reginald relax go get a corn dog or something” Bobby rolled his eyes at the over excited Reggie bouncing on one leg. He truly loved carnivals. “Ok I’ll be right back after the corn dog we have to get our future told I heard the one here is really accurate I want to know if I end up marrying Reese Witherspoon.”
“Ok guys what do you want to do first? Ferris wheel, go-carts, games, ...bumper cars...” I side glanced at Luke and he was already looking at me. “Oh your on” with that me and him were racing to the bumper car line bumping into each other once we got there. He quickly grabbed me by the waist so I wouldn’t fall on the other people. We were both laughing and smiling like idiots. “We should’ve walked” I said wiping my tears off my face. “Yea probably” he chuckled. “Ok so Al and Bobby get to choose who wins.” i said “Ok deal if I win you have to buy me the biggest ice cream cone they sell here” he said “Ok and if I win....um I want.... “ I looked around and the saw the big pretzel cart “The biggest pretzel they can make” “Deal” we did our handshake and turned around to stand in line.
“Ok Al, Bobby, focus you need to make sure you watch to see who wins” Luke said Alex and Bobby nodded and we were off into our own bumper cars. Me and Luke were bumping off each other and hitting other strangers cars. I think I might get a neck cramp. But it was really fun and I think I won. We got off giggling “ Ok so who is the lucky winner” I asked “Luke I’m never getting a car with you, y/n won” Alex said “yea totally destroyed you dude” Bobby added. Luke let out a snicker “yea please I let her win..” “sure you did bud” Bobby patted Luke on the back and went off to flirt with a girl he had seen earlier in the line. Reggie isn’t back so he might be stuffing his face with corn dogs. “And then there were three” I sighed. Alex turned around from walking in front of me and Luke “yea well make that two there is this really cute skater over there and I think I might go talk to him so peace out” he turned around and walked away. He quickly glanced back and winked at me “have fun”.
“Ok that makes two then, you up to take me on the pretzel offer” I asked Luke, he looked down at me with one of his gorgeous smiles that can brighten up the whole town. Geez why is he making it so hard not to fall in love with him. “Anything for you” he kissed the top of my head and we headed to the pretzel cart. We ordered and sat down on a bench to eat the pretzel. He took many bites but whatever he did pay for it. Still I won so I don’t see how it’s fair he got part of the prize, oh well. “So homework is stressful right?” he asked. I groaned “ugh yes I just wish I could be a kid so I wouldn’t have to do so much work and the only thing I would have to worry about is sleeping in nap time” I rested my head against his shoulder and he rested his against mine. “ Ok then, let’s be kids again then” I looked up at him confused “what?” “Let’s be kids again, let’s ride everything here and completely forget that we have responsibilities for tonight. How does that sound” he was practically buzzing now with excitement “I’m down” I said. “First one to throw up cleans the others room for a week” he said “Bet!”. We got up and starting riding everything that we could.
It’s been two hours and I’m waiting outside the boys bathroom with a water bottle for Luke. Can you guess who won. “Ugh that last ride really pulled some strings” he said. I giggled at him handing him the water bottle. “Up for one more tho” he groaned “depends, i don’t think my stomach can take anything else. “Ferris wheel?” I asked. He nodded and we headed there. Now getting into the ride we sat next to each other and the ride starting going up. The sky was a beautiful mix of pinks, reds, yellows, and blues. He wrapped his arm around my waist and I laid my head on his shoulder while we just admired the sunset. Well i did, I didn’t know that Luke wasn’t looking at the sunset he was looking at me like if I were the most beautiful painting he’s ever seen.
“Y/n...” i glanced back up and what he did next really surprised me. He pushed his lips against mines and I didn’t react I was frozen in place. He was about to pull away when I finally starting kissing back. He took his hand and put it on my cheek and I tangled my hands in his hair. This was amazing I always loved carnivals because of the adrenaline a ride gave you but this completely ruled out that feeling it felt passionate and warm. My stomach was doing flips and I was loving it, everything about this moment was just perfect.
When we finally pulled away we pressed our foreheads together still with our eyes closed “You don’t know how long I’ve been wanting to do that” he let out a shaky breath “then do it again” I whispered. He leaned back in to kiss me. This kiss went on a little longer and it was even more passionate than the one before if that was even possible. Now there was nothing stopping us we both know how we feel about each other and we can be together now.
Now not only do I have my best friend with me constantly but I think I might have found my soulmate. I am completely utterly in love with Luke Patterson.
