batman is racing to catch the 'returned joker', who later turns out to be a copycat. (copycat joker was a real storyline that was running at the same time as rite of passage, something i did not know until after i plotted this part of the au)

batman sees police outside a building but continues chasing after the 'joker', thinking "Gordon's men have the situation handled" and the potential joker attack is more time-sensitive.

unfortunately a batman spotting means that, inside the building they've holed up in, the gunmen get jumpy and the drakes get dead.

batman discovers what happened the next day after the whole fake-joker plot is dealt with, and that a teenager boy has been orphaned, and so he immediately blames himself

he detectives and tracks down the disgruntled researcher, who uses a sample of the drug on himself, and Mutates, and they have to do a big comic book fight.

unfortunately bruce is still Not Doing Well (his son is comatose, his other son isnt talking to him, and his dead parent trauma just got triggered) and so didn't realise...

meanwhile, batman and the gcpd roll up at the abandoned building to find zsasz dead and tim missing, but with so much of his blood at the crime scene that he is presumed to have been killed.

what happened to tim drake's body? a real mystery for the ages, eventually forgotten by everybody except true crime podcasters and the eternally self-flagellant bruce wayne, (especially after he discovered the drakes were the family who sent dick his last family photo, and thus had a connection to him he didnt realise until after their deaths)

but like i dont know... how to streamline this. or what to replace it with. it's just. it's a lot right? it's a lot going on. (and im still not sure if i gave bruce too many fuckups at once, or if it fits with the "pushing himself too hard and missing things" state he should be in)

Whatever Happened To Tim Drake? By TinHatFlash (READ THE FUCKING TAGS YALL). I frankly consider the best example of an honest to god Greek tragedy that I've ever seen in modern writing (and I WENT TO SCHOOL FOR THAT SHIT) because every "mistake" the characters make is an action that have no choice but to make because they are who they are and they're trying to do the next best thing in a horrible situation and it is an ever-evolving downward spiral. Seriously, I cannot sing enough praise for this fic.

Additional shoutouts to Heartslogos, Petra, and Teland, who's fics dragged me, joyfully, into this fandom, what with my then-limited-to-Teen-Titans-Cartoon knowledge of dc comics, and honestly so many others who's names I recognize, but can't pull from yhe top of my head right now.

3) so, the first thing is I actually have irl friends who follow this account, so on the off chance they see this, I'm not gonna talk about my own works, *but*, I do think that one of my short-story/longfics is over-rated. It's got 2 chapters, is unfinished, hasn't updated in years, is full of mistakes and stilted sentences, is frankly a longfic i didnt commit to and need to seriously rework before i continue, and it has as many kudos as all my other works. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for all of them, and I'm really happy that the story made so many people happy! I just think it's definitely one of my rougher pieces, and hopefully now that my schedule is even-ing out i can finally dedicate some time to working on that.

6) yes and no, sometimes I get an idea and inspiration for a short fic and am writing whatever comes to mind in a matter of minutes, and finish it in a caffein induced haze within the week. Sometimes I write a full NotFic (a beat sheet, if you will) and never write a full story. Sometimes I write a notfic, edit it a couple of times, then write a fic. Sometimes I copy/paste the thing into a new doc and just restructure the sentences into the right perspectives, paragraphs, and descriptions, and Bam! Story. And sometimes I do an actual point by point outline of "these are the beats I want to hit, the how doesn't matter, just figure out the details as you go and Get To This Place, and that's the kind of thing that usually leads to my fics that deal more with emotional trauma than anything else, I want the characters to feel a certain way then interact with each other, and I ask myself how I can bring them to that point. The story usually builds itself after that.

8) Oh yeah, all the time. I started writing by writing poetry to express myself, and the media I consumed was, generally, along the same vein. As a kid I liked pieces that were both escapism, and something that tackled my day-to-day problems. So give me magic and dragons, but give me academic pressure and strained interpersonal relationships, too. To this day, that is still my taste in media. I use fiction-writing as a way to vent my own thoughts, emotions, and traumas. I'm always inspired by the world around me, in that sometimes i see a pretty dress and have to think "do I want to wear this dress, or do I want to see a pretty girl in this dress?" And then write both. Sometimes I go "man, that was fucked, Imagine if I made a fictional character go through that too?" And then make the character go through something infinitely worse, yet still come out on top. In that sometimes I find that I'm writing a lot of a trope I enjoy, and then I start examining what about the trope i like, and nine times out off ten some other long-forgotten trauma comes flying out of the woodwork. When I'm writing, I'm doing it to tell a story, yes, but also to examine some aspect of people. Their inner thoughts, the way we interact with each other, our wants and needs, how we treat each other in a society l, and why some normal human things are taboo when the same society allows atrocities. I don't necessarily think stories need to so much have a progression as they need to simply convey something to the reader, much like poetry, and I think that really impacts my writing.

Anyway, sorry that was so long! I have a lot of feelings about fanfic 😂 thanks for the ask nonny!!!

Young Justice has Always had a Character Problem

And that is it has too many. 

It wasn’t too noticeable in season 1. Sure the writers obviously had their favorites that they tended to focus on but for the most part everyone got their time in the spot light and all the characters had the same or similar goals so all was good. In the build up to season 2 fans had hoped the next season would focus on the characters that didnt get as large a spotlight in S1...

Then it was announced it was a time skip and we’d get a new team 

Well ok it’d be like an anthology thing focus on a different group doing a different thing each season and ep 1 of S2 certainly FEALT like that focusing on new characters Lagoon Boy, Tim Drake and BLue Beetle except thats not what followed. 

The old team from season 1 was still the main focus with only a few new members really getting anything to do. And yet the writers still wanted us to care about these new characters. 

Like here let me use TIm Drake as an example. 

So S2 he’s introduced as not the second Robin but the third with Jason having died before him. He’s given his first chance at leading a team and is obviously nervous but gets the job done and comes out the ep better than he started. Now you’d THINK the writers would follow this show how he’s different from Dick, how the person who last had his mantle dying effected him (Maybe that being joined with the main plot) BUT NOPE this is literally the last time Tim has any kind of focus on him. He’s scene in the background from time to time and other characters talking ABOUT him but nothing really happens with Tim. Until the final ep of S2 where in its revealed by Miss Martian that he’s been developing feelings for Wonder Girl and finally asked her out. OH and this fact is used purely to get SuperMartian back together like thats not annoying. And yet we are suppose to care in S3 when they have problems due to TIm walking out on the team with the rest of the Batfamily. Like the writers keep talking about Tim and Cassie having issues and trying to work things out but we don’t SEE it and once again the charaters themselves never talk about it. AND FOR SOME REASON WE ARE EXPECTED TO CARE. 

And here we are in S3 and its an even BIGGER problem. 

Not only do we have another time skip, but we have more characters. The team from S1 is still doing things and taking up a good part of the narrative, the team from S2 just kind of exists, and then we get more characters who get more focus but only certain ones and the problem only gets worse with each episode. 

We have the Justice League doing stuff in space Batman Inc doing stuff behind the scenes (which has at least 4 characters they marketed yet have not said so much  5 lines of dialgoue) The Offical team which I think is now the Outsiders (like im honestly not sure) among which only really Halo and Beast Boy do anything Then you got their personal dramas that arent connected to the main story plus we gotta follow the villains and what they’re up to

and no one really knows what anyone is doing. The focus is all over the place. Halo seems to be our main through line this season yet they dont seem to like her very much. And yet we are still expected to care about all the characters they barely bother writing. 

Look Justice League Unlimited had a large cast but it didn’t FEEL that way cause the writers had their core 7 to focus the main story on, all the other characters were used to flesh out the world and throw some more fun and powers in. You saw them in background routinely with the same characters so when they took center stage it felt natural, cause they really only had one or two over arching narratives per season, the rest being self contained stories for the most part. 

Young Justice however wants to have its cake and eat it too. It wants to have the kind of tight narrative a small cast can afford you but it also wants to have the fun of a revolving door of characters. And you cant do both. And like I said it’s been a problem since season 1.

Since most of y'all Don't seem to Know her.... Let’s DO THIS BRIEF HISTORY OF ROBIN!STEPH BUCKLE TF UP BITCHES

(Note: For the most part, Steph’s time as Robin is included in the War Games TPB, especially because it serves as a catalyst for said event. Highly recommended the read, but mind, like, everything about it) ((also also tumblr only allows 10 pics, so I'm cherry picking my fav panels/most important ones. + offering a bit of meta. take this with a grain of salt and Please read War Games and draw your own conclusions blah blah))

So to start with, a little Context to Steph’s Start as Robin:

Tim’s dad found out about his Robining & made him hang up the cape+mask. As any Concerned and Reasonable parent would. Steph is still operating as Spoiler at the time, despite many attempts by many members of the batfam (but especially Batman) to dissuade her from crime-fighting.

Due to a gross misunderstanding (as these things tend go in comics *sigh*) Steph, who is dating Tim at the time, sees a girl who was interested in him make a move & thinks that Tim is cheating on her. She channels this grief/mourning/anger into making her own homemade Robin costume and convinces Batman to take her under his wing (he sets the conditions that she must follow every order, with a ‘one strike, you’re out’ kind of policy). She undergoes an unspecified training period to get in Proper Shape For Crime Fighting and Batman starts taking her on various patrols and investigations.

During this time, she also teams up with Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) on more than one occasion (one of my fav panels below, just bc its so stylized lmao. its Cute)

During this time, in true Robin Tradition, Steph builds up quite the rapport with Batman, providing a lighter/comedic side and being a general breath of fresh air and foil to the Dark Knight. (just LOOK at this banter & Bargaining for the batmobile!!! a TRUE ROBIN)

There’s a couple cases that I won't get too far into (but one i want to briefly mention involves Zsasz and Steph going almost a bit too far when trying to subdue him. its a very clear parallel to Jason & serves as foreshadowing for how War Games will play out i.e., Steph’s fate) 

Now during this time, there’s an assassin/merc who is killing off teens who were suspected to be Robin (Tim Drake), which Batman catches wind of and the Dynamic Duo moves in to put an End to. (look at this smug lil robin, catching the Bad Guy™ off guard. ADORABLE)

Another thing to note now, is how Eager Robin is to jump onto the case and into the fray. and how carefully she toes the line when following/questioning batman’s orders. this is touched on many times often either with her able to juuuuust reason with the caped crusader enough to Bend his own orders or even to change his mind on occasion.

(a thing i want to note here with this panel and with this particular time in Steph’s career as Robin is that the writer had her referring to Batman as ‘Boss’. whether this was intentional or not, it most closely resembles, to me, Carrie Kelley’s mannerisms as Robin. i.e. another Robin that the writers may have been using as inspo/to parallel. Carrie’s time as Robin is also defined by Batman’s grief from losing Jason, and is given a very similar probationary status that Steph is given during her time as Robin. coincidence? maybe. but i think not.)

While they lose track of the villain initially, Steph’s quick thinking to place trackers on her is what saves the mission. at the Moment at least. Batman makes a decision to bring Robin along when tracking their prey, but orders her to stay behind in the batplane & ‘not touch anything’ unless ordered to do so. which is where we get the Defining Moment:

When Steph, against orders, jumps into the fray. its something to be admired, and very Typical Robin Behavior (bc where would they be if they weren't impulsive and, well, KIDS, amirite?) but unfortunately, her decision costs them the chance of apprehending the villain, and Batman stays true to his word...

and she's Fired (g o d I'm not the biggest fan of damion scott’s art but this look BROKE MY HEART. i can practically HEAR those choked back tears and see that quivering lip like... G O D BRUCE NO. GIVE HER ANOTHER CHANCE. ANYTHING ELSE THAN WHATS GONNA HAPPEN)

here’s where I'm gonna TL;DR War Games for y’all bc.... holy shit its a LOT. and Steph’s involvement really only begins it, and essentially ends it. (literally lmao. she's featured a little throughout but like. its a Crossover Event™ for a reason. everyone gets a little bit of the spotlight, which means a bit of shuffling around ofc) but Anyways

tl;dr - steph takes one of Batman’s contingency plans on her way out of the cave & implements it w/out being aware of a few Key Details. all out War breaks amongst the different gangs of gotham, with Batman & company trying to regain control of the city & maintain order. Black Mask resurfaces, catches and tortures Steph to learn details about the plan and makes his own grab for power (fun fact, for those of you paying attention to the Big Picture: this essentially sets up for his position later on in Under The (Red) Hood when Jason starts wrestling that control away from him) Steph manages to escape, Batman takes her to Dr. Thompkins clinic, and Leslie reveals that her condition is critical. bruce makes it back in time to be by steph’s side for this:

and then she dies ;-;

BUT THIS IS COMICS- so its revealed initially that Leslie withheld treatment to save Steph’s life to Make A Point and try to dissuade Gotham Youth from following Steph’s path. BUT-BUT WAIT THERES MORE BC THIS IS ~*C O M I C S*~ so its ALSO revealed later on that steph DIDNT die. Leslie helped fake her death and blah blah blah, Steph comes back, gets to be spoiler again, then batgirl and the rest as they say is history

anyways. STRAIGHT FROM THE BAT’S MOUTH THANKS. Steph WAS really™ a Robin™ and as much as DC wants to pry that from my gay goblin hands they WONT be able to. and anyways... She Earned It. okay. give this girl the Respect she deserves. 

(now since I'm a Shipping Blog™, ima add some thoughts regarding her parallel to other robins and how Theoretically a relationship with raven might work out)

Again, the biggest parallel that DEFINES War Games and Steph’s time as Robin, is that to Jason Todd. (fun fact/sidenote: they’re both Leos, so like. Another Connection btwn the two lmao) They’re both impulsive and eager to prove themselves, and follow Batman with unwavering faith and loyalty (up to a Certain Breaking Point that is). They’ve got especially cheeky attitude and flair for drama, and hey. Narratively speaking, writers seem to have a penchant for drawing a few connecting lines between them (again, by starting the WG TPB off with Bruce mourning on Jason’s bday & setting a Tone for the overall event. and then again, by having a major character for UtRH be the very same villain that killed our former girl wonder) 

Now with those lines drawn, and with an understanding of how Jason has interacted with Raven in-canon (with mostly cordial interactions and for the most part respectful analysis of each other’s abilities & strengths), & no known connection between Steph & Rae as of yet, we can really only assume a few things:

-like most of the batboys, Raven is very likely to get along with Steph and to respect her abilities given that Steph respects her in turn.

-Steph’s bright, extroverted personality could again work as a good foil/compliment to Raven’s more introverted/muted one.

-theyve got what i like to call the Bad Dad™ connection (with Steph’s being a former Gotham Rogue™, and Raven’s... well.. y'all Know) Steph’s already shown great Morbid Humor regarding this part of her life (shown in her interactions with Cass) and is very willing to bond with others over Sucky Parents

-while stephanie has a canonical Love™ of Waffles, and raven (at least in regards to her Most Popular fanon from the 03 cartoon) has a fanonical love of them as well. Hence, they ARE the Waffle Queens (embrace the ridiculousness, guys. DO IT)

-Since steph is not an Adopted member of Bruce’s family (& again, more often than not they have attempted to dissuade her from vigilantism) and similarly, due to Batmans Dislike of meta-humans/outsiders messing with Affairs in His City, as well as some of his canonical Distrust™ for Raven due to her mysterious background/nature. this could be another minor/potential bonding point between the two

-likely more??? its getting late, and not much else I can think of off the top of my head, but i might add more to this later. 

as a ship StephRae has as much potential as any other, and since there’s not a lot of canon to really go off, fans can really take it.... wherever and i think thats beautiful

Ok so, PLL stopped being awesome years ago but I didn´t really gave up hope after the time jump. The AD emoji weirdo plus the whole spaleb/haleb storyline really ruined what was left of the show for me. 

I stopped watching the show then but I kinda kept up with some posts and yt videos because I still wanted to know how it was going to end. And in my opinion it was a mess. The storyline and the ships, both were ruined by bad writting and fatal continuity.

About the ships...

The point of a time jump is to show how people change with time, how they were no longer high school girls, they were adults with different lifes and responsabilites. And in real life the truth is that you move on from you high school sweetheart and that doesnt mean you didnt love them or what you had wasnt real it just means that people changes and grows apart and thats ok, it happens. 

All of the couples broke up for valid reasons. They wanted different things, their priorities were not the same and they had to get different experiencies and meet new people. 

Toby was happy with Yvonne. She was really likable and of course his relationship with Spencer turned a little awkward at times but that happens. Spencer was still happy for him and the truth is that Toby chose Yvonne. Even though he was always gonna care about Spencer, he chose to start a life with Yvonne. And as much as I loved Spoby in the beginning I think Spencer deserves better that Toby settling for her cause Yvonne died. I hated that. If they wanted spoby to be endgame they should have done it differently. Not like they just got stucked together. Also, Toby had a whole non-con issue with Jenna in the past and that´s not a topic to treat lightly. It´s messed up and just... wrong. And they did it again with Alex. Toby did not consent to have sex with her, he thought he was with Spencer so, no matter how you called it or how you justify it, it was rape and that was awful. 

Hanna was happy with Jordan. She was gonna get married and they were planning a life together. She had told him everything about her past which was a big deal, and she always had that big smile when they talk on the phone or when she saw him. He was good for her and he could be a part of the life she wanted. Of course it was gonna be weird to watch one of your best friends fall for your ex boyfriend, someone who was really important to you, but she was engaged and Spencer was honest with her about her feelings. Caleb and Spencer had met again years ago and they have shared moments and start a different relationship, even though they had always got along well. Even if the conection started then, they waited cause the timming wasnt right and after that first kiss your could see that they were really happy together, creating something new and good in the middle of the whole mess. Honestly, for me Caleb had a radical change from one episode to another. He was really supportive with spencer, he was cordial towards Hanna and Jordan and of course there was some awkwardness at first but I never really felt like he was still in love with her. I really saw him trying with Spencer and betting on that relationship. Then BOOM! suddenly he was plotting with Hanna and they were holding hands and he was ignoring spencer and I was like.. Wait a minute did I miss an episode or what? I hated that, i think it was terrible writting. I was afraid they were gonna get haleb back together but did it had to be with cheating involved? I saw it really out of character, both from Hanna and Caleb and it made me really dislike them. I also hated how everyone was hatting on Spencer for dating caleb years after his relationship with hanna but it was ok for hanna to sleep with him just a couple of days after his break up with spencer. And the whole getting married thing? Totally rushed. Don´t get me wrong, I don´t hate haleb and I was pretty sure they were gonna be endgame but I hated the way they did it. Specially after the whole door scene, where Hanna was present. I mean he was asking spencer for another chance and then he went back to hanna, What if spencer had said yes? I think it just ruined three good relationships and it should have been managed better. Personally, and I know its not a popular opinion, but I´d have loved for spaleb to be endgame. 

Emison... never was a fan of it but, again, I was pretty sure it was gonna happen. I never really liked the way Allison treated Emily but Ali changed a lot and their relationship was different now. Still, the whole pregnancy thing was SICK and just WRONG. Alison was impregnated against her will and Emily´s eggs were use without her consent and it was treated so lightly, like does this show really make girls think that these sort of things are ok to happen? Also, Emily had chosen Paige. And I think that if I was an emison shipper I´d like my ship together beause they choose to and no because one of them is suddenly pregnant with the other´s baby. And I know what Emily sort of always loved Ali but still, the babies really rushed their relationship and that was just wrong.

Ezra kinda manipulated his way into Aria and the girl´s life and got involved with a minor, which also WRONG and I never really liked this relationship a lot but they also got their happy ending cause... reasons.

So, let´s make a time time jump... 5 years into the future just so we can get all the ships back together cause the girls are all gonna end up with the girl/boy they met in highschool. Grrrr I was so pissed at that.

Now... the storyline. 

How many plot holes can you have? Why adding so much details so many new characters if you are not gonna keep up with them. The only good thing about the whole twin thing was Troian´s amazing acting skills. Other than that it was just rushed and not thought in deep. And that flashforward we had seen before the time jump about the girls running into Ali´s classroom... it was a dream? come on! that was just a way to show you had no idea what to do with that scene or how to justify it. I don´t think Alex Drake really explains all the things the girls went through and it´s not a good enough motive for me. I really expected more after all this time and I ´m very dissapointed but not really surprised. I expected Melissa and Wren to play different and more important roles in the finale and I think the show really lost his spark after season 4 or so. 

If you enjoyed the finale then I´m hapy for you because it´s awful to feel dissapointed of a show after so many years. This is just my opinion and I just wanted to get it out of my chest.
