I like that you like Zukka. Tell me what other ships you ship and why.
Well, obviously Zutara and Sukka.
But this may not be popular opinion since it's not in my story and probably wont be, but I can get behind Sokkla. It's the same concept of fire and water like Zutara and Zukka, but honestly it presents a dynamic that is more challenging.
Sokkla is more of a guilty pleasure ship for me than anything.
And since you are asking me my go to ships, I might as well answer the least favorite ships and why as well.
Azulaang: NOPE! This one is messy because Aang is Passive/Amiable and Azula is Assertive/Analytical. Assertive/Analytical people cannot mesh well with other people because they want/need control to feel stable about themselves. They are the boss. There is no compromise. It is also in Aang's character to be the one to 'fix' a person or a scenario. This is the type of relationship that is actually pretty toxic and is next to Narcissist level of toxic. Azula is a mirror of Ozai only she's female in the way of Social Styles. Any of her relationships will be toxic (as evidenced by how she treats Mai and Ty Lee) unless she learns to accept that perfection is impossible and she can overcome her trauma. So having Aang in a relationship with a person like Azula is just not going to work.
Kat*ang: I have my problems with this relationship by how it is framed from Aang's perspective and not Katara's. The non-consensual kisses do it for me too since that is considered SA in some circles and I have experienced things like that. Those things affected me deeply to where I have problems to this day that I'm just now able to talk about. It was a no go for me then, its still a no go for me now. I have gone over my dislike for the pairing before in greater detail, its no secret. Katara was absolutely reserved to Bryke's baby boy because they are silly men.
Maiko: I've done a whole post on this before. It boils down to dismissiveness and lack of communication in their relationship... which can be fixed but they both thought it was better just to break it off. Well, Mai did, and you know what... that's fine. They will probably work better as friends.
Taang: Toph and Aang have a sibling like relationship. if it went romantic, she'd also wipe the floor with his ass for being a jealous idiot.
What is the ship name for Zuko x Toph? : that should tell you what you need to know there. They are siblings too... and he still owes her a badass field trip.
Aangko? IDK: no. just no. that's.... ew. Especially when that would be considered grooming in some circles. I dated a guy who was a secret pedo... it's just no... hell to the no. I mean, you do you, but it's a Negatory Ghost Rider. Do not past Go, Do not collect $200, Do not get out of Jail free.
okay now that I've got all of that out of the way. I'm only tagging certain things for this because I don't feel like being swamped by the antis for having personal opinions about a ship. Some of these ships are fine for other people and that's okay. We all have our things, I'm not going to judge. It's obvious as to who actually judges people for their ships. It's not me.

thank you for answering the korrasami ship ask! and just wanna let you know you are one of my favourite katara (and kataang) tumblr accounts, no one gets them like you do, so i appreciate all the posts you make of them! cheers 💜
thank you so much! 🥹 that’s so sweet. i feel like there definitely should be more nuanced perspectives about katara, and the fandom just… does not provide that at all. either you love how the post-canon did her character or you’re siding with firelady katara enthusiasts who believe she laboured all the burden until marxist zuko came along. i urge katara and kataang fans (and anyone in general tbh) that disagree with popular fanon wide sentiments to write out their own meta. carve out their own spaces. i don’t make posts to change anyone’s perspectives, because i truly believe you can’t do such a thing in the atla fandom. people have their fixed ideas about ships, about characters, and if you argue or disagree, you can get dogpiled on.
instead, i try to be vocal about the things that make sense to me, the version of the show that i watched and interpreted. if just one person reads that and agrees, then maybe that’s enough.
also, don’t let anyone tell you whom you can or can’t ship katara with. I’ve seen the so-called “katara stans” who ship her with zuko actively get mad over the fact that she’s getting screen time in the new movie, genuinely being afraid that it might retcon LOK canon (which, like what? isn’t that what you wanted for the last 10+ years). meanwhile, the rest of us have to write a 30 page thesis on how we don’t agree with post-canon or dislike the eip kiss or x,y,z to be accepted as a katara stan.

I don't see why with this Maiko ask for example that when someone dislikes a ship that it often comes paired with an uncharitable interpretation of the dynamics or potential. Personally I like to take time to look at even things I dislike in a positive light or from the other side just to try and see why others like it or if my personal bias is being unreasonable.
I have zero interest in Maiko or even many popular ships for characters (Tyzula, Zutara, Zukka) but I can at least recognize that they all have good or at least acceptable story potential and dynamics. Tyzula can bring out the best in both characters with Ty lee not giving up on one of her closest friends and showing canon Azula compassion after she lost, Zutara if pushed in canon had potential to be a great romance story across 3 seasons so I understand it's popularity, I get why people like Zukka since they have a ton of areas to relate with one another. They all have easy avenues to create positive storytelling if shipped together.
So when I see someone say that Mai would just become a silent figurehead marrying Zuko it makes no sense to me because we know there's no way he would treat her like or that she would let him treat her like that based on everything we know about the characters. Is that how he would treat Katara or anyone else if they got together? Mai was silenced and bored because she had a kiss ass for a father who lived for political growth. Removed from their control there's no way she wouldn't have a voice on the throne along side Zuko, someone who actually would love her properly. I implore shippers to just try and look at your disliked ships with a modicum of charitability even if you hate them. Imo it can even be stress reliving because they may stop bothering you as much.

I seem to remember that you like Zutara, what do you like about it, why do you ship it and what’re your favorite tropes with them
Well, actually, I started to ship it out of spite to piss off my boyfriend at the time, who was an avid Kataang shipper.
What I like about it? The way Katara is the one character that can put Zuko in his place and blorbify him at the same time. I love the way Katara can be so versatile depending on the relationship she is put on. With Aang she tries to be more understanding and persuade him when he's an idiot, while with Zuko she shuts him down and argues; she knows what language each person understands better. And I happen to like the arguing lmao
My favourite tropes? That's a hard question. I could instead list the tropes I dislike the most: when they are the only focus in a multichaptered plot fic, when other characters are bashed or ignored to make them look better, when their flaws are ignored for the sake of blorbifying them, and especially when they throw in Azula salt. OH WAIT-
The vigilantes trope. I love the vigilantes trope. Oh- and the ex-jock x former nerd trope in the university Au too.

Avatar the Last Airbender for the fandom request.
The first character I first fell in love with: Aang. His sweetness is so endearing and he’s so likable. Right now I’m watching Hunter x Hunter and Gon has the same sweetness and kindness about him, and I love them both.
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Azula. I knew she was complex but the lazt few episodes speedrun her character development so well it’s insane. She’s like Shadow Weaver in a lot of ways, so of course I like!
The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Uh…I’m not sure I can answer this one? Okay. Zuko. But not because I actually dislike him. I just dislike how the fandom uses his redemption arc as THE SOLE MODEL for all future redemption arcs in any media ever. So there.
The character I love that everyone else hates: Ozai, because he’s a human being despite how awful a person he is. I love that Aang recognizes this.
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I don’t really have any characters who would fall into this category. I think I’ve pretty much stayed consistent with my ATLA preferences over the years.
The character I would totally smooch: I’m…too old to have an answer to this question.
The character I’d want to be like: I aspire to be Katara, the caring mom friend.
The character I’d slap: Ozai. Duh.
A pairing that I love: I like both Kataang and Zutara, but prefer the former. Multishippers for the win!
A pairing that I despise: Ty Lee x Azula. No thanks!

Tumblr media
• I’m quite pure for my ships, I prefer non-canons because they’re not written to be together on purpose but more unexpected and natural, and that make sense to me. I have confidence and believe in their connection, so they have.
• I repect the different opinions and I don’t care too much actually. Because everyone is a different individual, and if something I really dislike or disagree with, I will block/mute it myself. So nothing to worry about. The world is tolerant, we all fair and have a right to exist, and it’s valid.
• I’m open mind for all kinds of contents/shipping, characters are free and fiction doesn’t equal to reality, there’s no such limited in it. Agree/like/ship it or not, it’s all up to ourselves, only if we like it/or not, that’s all. Don’t find stupid excuses that even yourself doesn’t understand fully to stop others from enjoying, because you personal don’t agree with. That’s rude.
• I’m happy to see people who love my works and would like to create extended content for it (like the AUs/prompts that I give) for the same characters. I really appreciate it :)
But I DO HATE the inspiration and conceptual plagiarism. Such as I post my art for A/B and after 11 hours, someone posts the work that almost uses the same color palette and ideas as my art but for B/C from the same fandom. I have to say that I feel sad for you actually, you really have no idea of how to rumor-mongering for your ship, huh?
Please respect the spirit of original and honest. Don’t be an inspiration/idea thief. (Just like the AI art)
• Fandom police & antis are not welcome here. I block/delete antis/fanpols with no seconds and explains, hope you guys know. My ship is my baby, you guys are trash and don’t deserve to be under their post. Please feel free to block/mute me too if you don’t like my post contents or you’re a antis/fanpol, thanks a lot 😉🫰

Katara x Aang :3c
are you trying to get me in trouble
-cough-
no but in all honesty, my genuine feelings about kataang boil down to three major points: 1. it's boring, and does not jive thematically with either of their character arcs, to the point of, 2. actively hampering character development on both sides, and 3. katara deserved better.
points expanded under the cut. (please, if you're a kataang shipper and you see this, just keep scrolling. i've tagged it appropriately and put the bulk under a cut and at this point that's literally all i can do lmfao.)
send me a ship and get my (brutally) honest opinion!
1. It's Boring: This is the most subjective point on the list (I mean, in fairness, it's all subjective, but I have evidence from the show and post-canonical materials to support my other points; this one is just preference), but there's just... nothing to kataang. It's cute (when it's not actively aggravating), and... that's about it. It's not even that I dislike friends-to-lovers as a shipping trope (though it's not my overall preference), because there are a lot of friends-to-lovers couples that I do ship (kanej comes to mind, also will/elizabeth from potc, karolsen from supergirl, romione and hinny from hp, among others), but one thing that I think all of those couples have that kataang doesn't is that both sides of the pairing are teens or adults when they get together, with teen/adult dynamics and issues and stories to deal with, rather than one half being a teenager and the other being literally prepubescent.
And don't get me wrong, I have no problem with age gap ships in general. And as far as atla goes, Katara, at 14, has the same age difference from Zuko (16) as Aang has from her, and it's never stopped me--because both Katara and Zuko are well into puberty when they meet and I have no problem picturing them being into one another and growing together as they enter adulthood. Aang, on the other hand, is a child. And he acts like it. Which wouldn't be a problem, if the show weren't expecting me to believe he is a) ready for a romantic relationship, and b) ready for one specifically with Katara, who is not only older and far more mature but is specifically cast as his caretaker in a very maternal role for the entire show's run.
This show asks me to believe that a teenage girl well into adolescence is going to be attracted to and develop romantic feelings for a pre-adolescent child--and it asks me to believe this while showing us otherwise that Katara's type is actually older boys with fabulous hair and angsty pasts in all of her other potential romantic dalliances--and then enter into a relationship with him, all while ignoring the elephant in the room that is the fact that she was basically acting like his mother for the entire series to that point. (Something that is heavily lampshaded earlier in the very same season.) That just stretches the bounds of credulity way too far for me, especially when there's no evidence that Katara herself would get anything out of their romantic relationship.
There's nothing there for me to sink my teeth into. No delicious development, no parallels where they help each other grow, no internal conflicts that they have to work through together, nothing. Certainly no reason for me to actually believe Katara feels (or would grow to feel) anything for him other than the platonic affection of a caretaker. I can easily believe she loves him dearly, as a friend and quasi-little-brother, but I just can't see that developing naturally into romantic love--not the way it's presented in the show.
And even if they did manage to at least make the development of Katara's feelings believable, unless they changed something fundamental about the nature of their relationship, it'd still be boring, so.
2. It Actively Hampers Their Character Development--On Both Sides: I've written before (extensively lol im so sorry) about how kataang is actively detrimental to Katara and to Aang. In short (because ye gods this post is already getting long enough), Katara is narratively harmed by being shoved into a relationship that completely ignores her stated feelings--a relationship that had been presented as a one-sided puppylove crush for the vast majority of the series--and it inhibits her growth as a character in ways that become far more obvious in the comics and lok, where the very same creative forces that lead to her beginning a relationship with Aang in the first place reduce her to 'the Avatar's girl' and very little else, all the way through to the end of LoK (where she is a Healer and the Avatar's wife and, again, very little else).
As for Aang:
As to how this relationship is detrimental to Aang (other than the comics and LoK nonsense)? Just take a look at book 2, when he’s trying to learn Earthbending from Toph. Katara constantly coddles him. Much of the time, she’s afraid to be anything other than gentle and understanding with Aang--partly because of her fear that if she pushes him too far, he’ll run away. (Which he does, several times.) But sometimes, what Aang needs to grow is a sharp kick in the slats, which Toph was more than willing to provide--and which worked. Katara was great for teaching Aang to waterbend, but he needed more than that to grow as a person. And he can’t get that while he’s in a relationship with someone who will apologize for getting upset when he was very explicitly neglecting her.
In addition, it is pointed out by Guru Pathik at the end of Book 2 that one of Aang's chakras is blocked by his attachment to Katara. Aang takes this to mean (incorrectly) that he has to stop loving her in order to become fully realized as an Avatar, but this is actually part of the problem--because the issue isn't that he is in love with Katara, it's that he's possessively attached to her. He believes himself entitled to her love in return, rather than selflessly loving someone regardless of whether or not they return that affection. (This is obvious come the EIP episode, where Aang demands to know why he and Katara aren't in a relationship already--because he kissed her without asking [or even checking to see if she'd be ok with kissing him], which he phrases as mutual even though it very much was not, and he gets angry and violates her boundaries when she says that she is confused and doesn't want to think about it right then.)
It is his attachment to Katara--the need for her to return his love, the belief that she will and it is only a matter of time before he gets what he wants--that he was supposed to let go of, not his feelings for her in general. Unfortunately, while he pays lipservice to doing this (far too late for it to be useful--if he'd stayed with the Guru for five more minutes and unlocked his chakra there, that battle would've gone very differently), he almost immediately backtracks on that development come book 3, and there isn't another single whisper of Aang maybe growing up and moving past his one-sided and possessive crush and realizing that even if Katara doesn't feel the same way, it doesn't mean she loves him less or that their friendship is less important.
What really needed to happen, for Aang to grow as a person and become fully realized as an Avatar, was for him to grow up. To realize that his feelings were not of paramount importance, and that even if he was in love with Katara, he was not entitled to her love in return. He should have been able to move past his need for her to love him back, in order to get past that stumbling block, unlock his chakras, and regain the Avatar State in time to face the Firelord. But he didn't. As a result, they had to find some other way to just give him the Avatar State (a well-placed rock) and the means to defeat Ozai without killing him (the deus ex lionturtle) and his entire character arc just fell apart in the third act rather than reaching a satisfying conclusion.
3. Katara Deserved Better: This really ties into how her romantic relationship with Aang hampered her own development, but I'm still bitter enough about it that it gets its own bullet-point. And the biggest single reason I could never ship kataang--the thing that would've turned me off even if there were substance and a halfway decent storyline for them--is the fact that Aang kisses her without her consent (for the second time) in Ember Island Players, Katara gets angry at him and storms off, and then..... she walks out onto the balcony to make out with him.
With nothing to bridge that gap.
It's bad enough that a show aimed at children had a scene where the child protagonist kissed the object of his affections without her consent when she didn't want him to (made explicit by her angry reaction)--and this is absolutely an issue when the show is aimed at children and it may well be the first experience they've had with consent issues portrayed in media--but this moment is never addressed again. Katara just decides--completely off-screen--that she does love him Really and walks out to make out with him in the epilogue. There's no conversation, no apology for violating her boundaries, no discussion of why that was wrong or any indication that Aang understands what he did and why it upset her. They don't have a single one-on-one interaction between that kiss and the epilogue, and the only other time they are on screen together, Aang yells at her and storms off.
So, even leaving the comics and lok aside, Katara deserved much better from her own romantic plotline. In fact, she deserved to have one, rather than simply being the oblivious object of Aang's affections, given a couple moments where she blushes but otherwise remains completely ignorant of his feelings (she looks shocked and upset when he kisses her prior to the invasion, and then she completely forgets that even happened because she's confused as to what Aang is even talking about during EIP until he brings it up; that's not the behavior of a fourteen-year-old girl who was kissed by someone she was developing romantic feelings for), before the epilogue where it becomes clear that she figured all of that out off-screen and had feelings for him after all.
She's a main character, not a side-character written in solely to give one of the mains a love interest. She deserved a romantic plotline of her own. (She could have had one with someone else, with very few changes made to what was actually on-screen prior to the epilogue, but that's another conversation entirely.) She deserved to have her feelings considered at all important by the person she was going to be paired with in the end, rather than having him just assume she felt the same way and then get mad at her for never giving any indication of it when he'd never asked about her feelings to begin with. She deseserved agency in her own romantic narrative, and she just didn't get that with Aang.
So yeah, at the end of the day, my biggest issue with kataang is that it involved doing Katara dirty, and she's my favorite character and she deserved so much better damnit.

Hello, curious anon here!, What's the character you dislike the most from both Tlok and Atla and why? I have been looking at the most attacked characters lately and they I have found that, (most of the time) the base of such hate is that ppl find x or y character too "annoying". We just need to look at Korra or Katara and we find that ppl usually dislike them for patterns that repeat too often, (Korra showing certain flaws like hotheadedness or Katara talking about how she misses her mother), so I am curious about what character you dislike the most I hope this doesn't sound mean. Personally, I don't really hate any character, I might dislike their actions and attitudes but in general no one affects me that much.
Hello, happy new year. Hope you are doing fine.
That's a good question.
When I think about characters I dislike, in any media, there's two types of them: The characters that were just so poorly written/portrait that I just can't bring myself to enjoy them and characters that are just bad, in the way that they are just so we'll written but they are just so mean and evil that I dislike them(and praising the effort to make a good ass well written evil/mean character at the same time)
So, answering the question I think the characters I dislike the most in both tla and tlok are Kuvira and Tarrlok.
Kuvira because I think she is poorly written in the show, and for what I know about the comics, this didn't changed much. Even tho she had some charisma and work fine as a dictator villain, the way on how they force a redem arc on her and how they force the parallels between her and Korra just ruined her character for me. I dislike her simple because of the writing.
Tarrlok in other hand has a nice writing. He is complex, he is ambiguous, we could see his story and motivations, how and why he is the way he is. But he is such a creepy corrupt bastard that I can't bring myself to like him. Yes, I love how well written he is, and I dislike him because he is the type of villain that I just don't empathize with
I know the fandom as a whole dislikes Ozai and Unalaq but I think they work well in what they are supposed to. Sure, Unalaq has no charism but he is such a classic "envious brother" villain, who execute his plans with almost perfection. Both him and Ozai were just evil, no forced "there's good in them" stuff, they were evil and that's it. And I appreciate this honesty. Again, they could be better but still, it worked for me so...
About what you said about Katara and Korra, I have this view that I'm sure will not please everyone but for me people who complain about how "annoying" Katara and Korra is, are just annoyed about how powerful, important and deep these characters are. Because they judge them for the same shit they praise when they see in other characters like Zuko or Toph. And since Katara and Korra were both woman of color, I think this just screams sexism and racism.
Ps: I know Toph is also a woc, since she is not white because there's no European white people in Avatar. But she still is light skinned, and for this she - and other characters who is also light skinned - is better accepted in those toxic parts of the fandom

okay so. imma preface this by saying that i, personally, Really Dislike (hate) the httyd movies due to the fact that the book series was my childhood and how inaccurate the movies are, so i am So down for this au, except... imma make it the Books...
oKAY NO BUT LIKE imagine toph as freaking camicazi like "you're pretty good, for a boy, of course" MY QUEEN
and if aang is hiccup, then momo would be toothless and i just. i know it. momo would be toothless. appa is too nice to be toothless. toothless is a menace. toothless is the dragon that's like "i'm going to cause problems On Purpose" and that has momo vibes. and okay, while hiccup and aang aren't like super similar because personality wise, sokka has more hiccup vibes (loves learning, super smart, taught himself the language of dragons through observation...) this is the story of hiccup and him becoming a hero when no one really believed in him (except fishlegs and camicazi and other people on occasion). hiccup has the ability to befriend dragons that probably would have eaten other people. he has the ability to make friends with other vikings that probably would have killed other people. and, if he doesn't make friends with them (which he Always usually tries first--or even not becoming friends with them, sometimes it's just convincing them that he is fighting for the greater good and won't hurt them and is worth keeping alive), he is able to beat them due to wit before all else. he is the underdog because he's skinny and gets scared and expresses his fear and just. AHHH I LOVE HIM!
this got long... gonna do a read more lol
and sokka would Probably be fishlegs tbh??? like we'd have to change some stuff because fishlegs is an orphan like was abandoned by his parents, but they both have the energy of "will complain about everything but also has brain cells" okijuhygfcghuji and foo foo cuddly poops could be horrorcow because. fishlegs named his dragon. horrorcow. i think fishlegs and sokka have the same vibes when it comes to naming things...
so then. ig you could say that zuko would be snotlout but while snotlout's redemption is Really Good, it doesn't have time to become a redemption arc because of. the thing. that happens. that i have Still not recovered from. God, cressida cowell owns my heart i Still cannot believe she did that. but snotlout hates hiccup and isn't the main villain of the series because that would be alvin and his mom...
so ig azula could be alvin bUT THAT MEANS--pOOR AZULA IOUYGFTCGYHUJ zuko has the vibes of alvin's luck. like, he wouldn't be alvin purely because that dude does not have a redemption arc, but tHE VIBES P L E A S E but then oz*i could be alvin's freaking mom, excellinor
... king bumi would be gobber the belch and idk whether i should love that or hate it iuygftgyhuji wAIT NO HE WOULD BE OLD WRINKLY !!! KING BUMI IS OLD WRINKLY SEND TWEET I AM CORRECT... the boulder could be gobber... but i Kind of want him to be big boobied bertha because that's camicazi's mom therefore toph's parental figure...
oH jet could be humungously hotshot! no wait that's Literally perfect!!!
... zhao would probably be norbert the nutjob tbh
tHE OWL WOULD BE THE HAIRY SCARY LIBRARIAN !!! HE HATES EVERYONE FOR NO REASON AND DOESN'T LET ANYONE READ HIS BOOKS P L E A S E
oh and roku could be grimbeard the ghastly because he's like hiccup's ancestor that has this treasure and like. idk he guides hiccup along the way without Actually being there. like, he guides him via the treasure and all that iuhgyfhuijko
idk who katara would be (she would Not be fishlegs lol--no way) but i'm not getting rid of her so...
maybe we could change the plot a bit where it isn't fishlegs (sokka) that washes up on the isle of berk, but hiccup (aang) and katara and sokka befriend him and they're all in viking training together and get their dragons together too. and that would Still be as chaotic, but that was all Kind of fishlegs' fault and i Really Doubt sokka would do what he did, so let's just say it's like... idk it's hahn's fault or something lol and that's how aang ends up with momo
and everyone is super cautious of aang (including sokka, sometimes. sometimes sokka is just like "why do i hang out with you you're going to get us killed?" and aang just shrugs and is like "idk cause you love me") because he's a bit of an odd outsider and vikings are territorial and he learned how to speak to dragons which literally no one else can do and he also tries to idk be friends with dragons and stuff because he finds them interesting (and bonus points if sokka Also finds them interesting but is too scared of the negative reaction the tribe would have if he indulged in learning about dragons like aang) and aang teaches katara dragon stuff (and eventually sokka... he teaches them how to speak dragonese...) aND FRICK I LOVE THIS
okay this is already pretty long and Probably not what you were expecting sooooooo i'll stop here iougyftgyhuji

hi everyone!! i hope you’re doing super well :) thank you so much for reading rotations and for sending me so many kind words!! you all mean the world to me and i rlly mean that bc i am a very emotional person hehe
pt 1
pt 13
pt 15
There were enough rooms in the house for everyone to have their own and, out of habit, (Y/N) picked the room that had once been hers whenever she stayed with the royal family. It was eerie how little it had changed. It was like it had been frozen in time since she had been eleven. Half-finished letters to her friends on the mainland remained on the desk, their scrolls crinkled at the edges with age. An old painting of her and Zuko hung at her bedside. She took it down immediately and shoved it into a desk drawer.
“This place is amazing!” Sokka yelled as he ran up the steps of the beach house. After being attacked by Azula and being forced to flee the Western Air Temple, at Zuko’s suggestion, the group decided to fly to Ember Island to hide in plain site among the Fire Nation. On their way there, Zuko and Katara had gone on a separate mission to track down the man that killed her mother. While (Y/N) understood the necessity of Katara finding closure, she disapproved of her doing it with Zuko. She especially disapproved of how friendly the two seemed when they returned. Katara had always been her confidant in disliking Zuko and it seemed he had won her over, too.
(Y/N) stopped at the end of the stone path, looking up at the ornate designs carved into the wood that symbolized to who this house belonged. The last time she had been here was years ago, but it felt like it was a lifetime away. So much had changed since then.
Katara nudged her shoulder with her own. “Everything okay?” She asked, a small smile etching into her features. (Y/N) pursed her lips. Katara was the first person that she had ever told the full story of her past. She remembered choking on her words a lot because she was unable to find the happiness in her once good memories. Now that they were back on Ember Island, it was like everything was flooding back to her at once.
“Yeah,” she said with a nod, but it was just a second too late to convince Katara that she was being honest. “Being back here just weirds me out.”
Everyone had once again changed back into their Fire Nation clothes and while (Y/N) was comfortable, she felt completely exposed. Like anyone could recognize her at any moment. She had to keep reminding herself that it had been years since these people had seen her.
She dropped her bag and began taking the sheets off the bed so she could wash them. A flash outside of her door caught her eye and she leaned back to see what it was. In the room across the hall, Zuko was hanging clothes in his wardrobe. She tensed. How could she have forgotten that their rooms had been across from one another? It would be doubly difficult to avoid him now.
She tried to talk to Zuko as little as possible if it could be avoided. It made her upset, seeing that all of her friends were gradually becoming more friendly with him. She had been happy before he had entered their group and she would be happy again once he went away. All she had to do was wait it out.
Quickly, she gathered her bedsheets into a bundle and darted out of her door, down the hall, and down the stairs, where Katara had already set up buckets of water and soap to wash their clothes. She silently sat down beside her friend and began scrubbing.
“You’re gonna rub a hole into those if you keep scrubbing so hard.” She looked up to see Katara raising an eyebrow at her.
“These haven’t been used in years, I just want them to be clean.” In reality, she wanted to scrub those sheets free of the long, sleepless nights she had spent thinking about her future with Zuko.
“I’m surprised that Zuko wanted to come back here,” Katara said in an effort to start a conversation with him. “The last time he was here, he was with Azula and those two girls.”
“Mai and Ty Lee.”
“You knew them?” (Y/N) nodded.
“I went to school with them. They were all a grade below me. Ty Lee ran away and joined the circus and Mai had the biggest crush on Zuko.” She frowned and Katara must have noticed it, because her friend giggled. “What?”
“Are you jealous?”
“Why would I be jealous? Zuko can date anyone he wants. I don’t care.” Katara hummed knowingly and (Y/N) splashed her with soapy water. It irritated her that friends were always trying to act like they knew something she didn’t.
After they had finished doing laundry and eating lunch, the entire group wanted to sit on the back steps of the house to enjoy the nice weather. Despite being in the Fire Nation, Ember Island was beautiful and its weather was almost always temperate. Everyone besides Aang and Zuko sat while the two boys practiced their firebending. Aang was getting better with each passing day, but (Y/N) noticed he was still holding back. With firebending, you have to give it your all, or else your flames would be weak. She told him this as he ran back to the steps for a water break.
“I want to be able to be in control of my fire,” he said. He glanced over at Katara, who looked away. She knew he still blamed himself for accidentally burning her.
“You can be in control and still put your whole being behind it. Firebenders attack with their whole self, because we have fire inside of us. You have it too, you just need to let it out.”
“(Y/N) knows what she’s talking about,” Zuko said. “She was one of the best prodigies back in the Fire Nation.”
“Don’t do that,” she snapped at him. Zuko looked at her, surprised. “Don’t just bring up the past like we’re reminiscing on good times.” She stood so she was eye level with the former prince. “And you’re crazy if you think you can get back on my good side just by complimenting me.”
“(Y/N)-”
“No! You’ll let me speak. For years I tried to reason why you would just drop me like I was nothing to you. Like we didn’t spend ever summer for years on this island, together, and that I didn’t spend almost every waking moment of every day at your side. You left me in the Fire Nation and even after our fights, even after you captured me to take me back to the Fire Nation as a war criminal, I still believed that there was some good in you. You sure fooled me! You had been fooling me for years and I just never realized it. And then, after everything I said to you in your uncle’s tea shop, you betrayed me. You ran home to the people who had been nothing but evil to you from the moment we met and left me in a prison to rot!”
This was the most she had spoken to Zuko since he had joined their group. The fire that raged in her eyes was apparent, and Katara was close enough to see the flames dancing on her fingertips.
“And then you want to come here and act like everything is fine? You want to befriend my friends, the people that cared for me when you didn’t, and bring up the good times we had and just completely forget that for the past three years you treated me like I was nothing! Every fight we had, I held myself back because no matter how hard I tried to, I couldn’t hurt you!”
She shot a fire ball at him that missed by a few inches. Zuko stepped back as (Y/N) walked down to the beach. “You want to be here so badly? Prove it! Fight me!”
“(Y/N),” Zuko began.
“I challenge you to an Agni Kai!” The words came out of her mouth before she could stop them. She and her friends realized the weight of what she had said quickly. Zuko set his jaw, his fists balled at his sides.
She regretted what she had said as soon as it came out of her mouth. She was just so angry and as she looked at Zuko, it was hard to not get angrier. Angry for leaving her behind in the Fire Nation, angry for betraying her in Ba Sing Se, and angry for being able to fit himself back into her life so easily.
(Y/N) made the first attack, which Zuko dodged. She shot flames at his head, body, and feet and their friends watched in astonishment as they jumped, flipped, and kicked their way around each other.
“It’s like they’re dancing,” Suki said. Aang narrowed his eyes.
“He’s on the defense,” he said.
“What?” Toph asked.
“Zuko isn’t fighting her back.”
Their friends could feel the flames get hotter as her anger toward Zuko eventually took control. She was getting sloppy with her movements and instead chose to shoot fire at Zuko every chance she got. Katara stood to diffuse the situation, but Sokka grabbed her arm.
“They have to do this,” he said.
(Y/N) was ruthless. She knew she didn’t want to hurt Zuko, but she couldn’t stop herself. Years of anger were reaching their boiling point in this battle.
“I don’t want to hurt you!” Zuko shouted at her.
“You already did!” She shouted back, jumping into the air and smacking her fists to the sand, sending a wave of fire at him. The flames had spread around them, encircling them in a ring of fire. Her fists were lit with fire blasts. “Fight me back!” She screamed, shooting balls of fire at him. He had been dodging her attacks and slashing through her flames. Not once had he shot fire at her. “Do something!”
“I won’t!” Zuko shouted over the roar of the flames. “I don’t want this!”
(Y/N) could feel the tears streaming down her face. If he fought her, she would have a reason to retaliate. She would have an answer for hurting him, just like he hurt her. Zuko’s amber eyes stared in to her own.
“I won’t fight you.”
She was twelve again, watching with tear-filled eyes as Zuko knelt to the ground in front of his father, begging him for mercy. She remembered the fear in his voice and the way he screamed when his father burned him right after he had said the very same words he was saying to her. “I won’t fight you!”
The flames died down instantly. (Y/N) brought her hands to her mouth and slowly fell to her knees, her body shaking with sobs. Her tears hit the hot sand around her.
She felt strong arms wrap around her and pull her body close to theirs. Zuko rested his chin atop of her head and rubbed her back, his own tears sliding down his cheeks. She pulled away to look up at him. Her eyes were red, her cheeks puffy from her tears, and her bottom lip quivered as she held in a sob, but Zuko still felt his heart skip a beat.
“I’m sorry,” she cried. “I didn’t mean--I didn’t want--”
“I know,” was all Zuko said. She wrapped her arms around his middle and hugged him tightly, tucking her face into his neck like she had when they were kids. They sat like that for what felt like hours, until one by one, they felt their friends wrap their arms around them.

zuko has always been a mystery to y/n. the way he had that cocky smirk whenever around the women of the kingdom but then a sweet smile whenever he was with his friends.
but whenever y/n was around he was cold, distant even rude treating her as if she was invisible.
she was only a worker at the palace cleaning, cooking mostly spending her time looking after avatar aang and katara.
both of them agreed the way zuko treated y/n was strange.
y/n hastily walked with the tray to aang’s office hearing voices inside she knocked before entering
“yes come in” aang soft voice rung before y/n entered
“well if it isn’t my favourite person” aang smiled at y/n as she placed the tea on the table earning a smile from katara
zuko resting against the wall pushed himself off sniffling a little
“aang, i will discuss this with you later” zuko coughed sounding quite horse, nodding his head at the couple adverting his eye contact with y/n
“zuko are you feeling well? you sound quite sick”katara stated with a furrowed brow pressing the back of her hand to the fire lord’s forehead
“i’m fine katara, honestly ” the fire lord stated waving goodbye to the couple avoiding all eye contact with y/n
y/n let out a saddened sigh before going back to pour the tea
“i just don’t get it, he really seems to dislike me and i don’t know what i’ve done” y/n explained handing katara and aang their teas before the couple gave each other a look
“y/n come sit” aang gestured to one of the chairs positioned around the table to which she hesitated but aang nodded before smiling warmly
“zuko has always been well quite reserved when i first met him i thought he was well an asshole and rude” katara explained a chuckle leaving both y/n and aang’s mouth
“but when he began to truly trust me things he still was an asshole but became better and now he really is one of my closest friends”
“the thing is y/n, don’t give up on zuko just yet i promise he will come around” aang comforted the young girl placing a hand over her own
y/n lay awake in her bed that night tossing and turning, thoughts swirling around her head
so maybe zuko isn’t so bad after all
how am i supposed to get him to trust me?
y/n’s eyes began to shutter close to drifting off to a restless sleep of tossing and turning
she was woken abruptly by a loud bang at her door, quickly jumping putting on a robe and slippers she hastily opened the door
jia one of the maids quite all out of breath looking quite dishelleved
“jia is everything alright?” y/n asked wrapping her robe around her tighter looking at the girl with wide eyes
“the fire lord has become ill he has a high fever katara has asked to please collect cloths from the kitchen and go to his chambers immediately” jia instructed her frantically
y/n sprinted her feet carrying her as fast as she could, arriving at the kitchen she frantically collected the bucket of cold water filled with towels
running the water sloshed in the bucket and thoughts sped through y/n’s head
i hope he’s okay
katara is the world’s best healer
he has to be fine
right?
approaching the fire lord’s room a blue glow illuminated the girls face
katara stood moving her arms gracefully over the large bed a circle of glowing water wrapped around zuko’s body a small gasp leaving y/n’s lips
y/n had never seen him look like this so small, meek and fragile always standing tall and proud
“great you are here, my part is mostly done this a virus so healing isn’t to much help but it does relive a bit of the fever” katara sighed pushing zuko’s hair back her eyes dreary with exhaustion
“katara why don’t you rest i can look after the fire lord for a while” y/n smiled sweetly, grabbing the bucket of clothes moving beside zuko’s resting body
katara yawned shuffling back to her own room, y/n dabbed the sweat off zuko’s face he was profusely sweating and shaking
how can i make him feel better?
y/n smiled beginning to think of a song that her mother used to sing to her when she was ill as a child softly she began to sing
The moon is bright, the wind is quiet,
The tree leaves hang over the window.
zuko began to stop moving his breaths becoming slower, the girl could see him relaxing she began to brush the hair out of his face as she continued to sleep
Little one, close your eyes,
Sleep, sleep, dreaming sweet dreams.
the fire lord now fast asleep had a small smile on his face, one y/n had only seen a handful of times usually reserved for his younger sister or mother
y/n stretched letting out a yawn fatigue beginning to take over looking over at zuko calmly asleep she began to drift off
i’ll just rest my eyes for a moment
when y/n awoke the sun peaked into the room little slithers of lights danced across the room she stretched her arms then began to check on zuko
“fever is down but still there” y/n mumbled biting her lip in concentration pressing her knuckles to the fire lords head
“good to know” zuko croaked out with a chuckle his eyes opening to show his gold orbs
y/n’s cheeks glowed bright red in embarrassment she began to bow with a stutter
“fire lord zuko i apologise for my presence i am not in uniform nor the correct-t, it’s just you were very ill and i was helping katara and then i just rested my eyes and fell asleep in the chair and i” y/n stuttered out avoiding eye contact with zuko glancing up to see a amused look on his face
“honestly it’s fine don’t worry about-t” zuko’s body was wracked with coughs
“spirits okay i’ll be back soon with some healing tea and katara” y/n exclaimed quickly walking towards the door with haste as she put her hand on the handle though zuko piped up behind her
“you know you have quite a lovely voice, y/n” the fire lord said with a smirk
y/n paused smiling widely a tinge of blush on her cheeks appeared before she walked out searching for katara.

Hi! I’m sorry you’re getting shitty anons about this and you’re probably sick of it so I apologise for asking this but I’m genuinely curious what made you start actively disliking zutara? Like, considering how much excellent and insightful content/meta you yourself used to make/write? I get that interests change over time and you’re totally valid!! the anons sending you hate over it are really dumb, but if you’d be ok with sharing, I’d be really interested in hearing why you’ve done almost a complete 180 on the ship? Was is just burnout/end of a hyper-obsession? Or was it some of us in the rest of the fandom that turned you off? Or was it even something about the ship/characters themselves that you changed your mind about? xx
In short, it was a combination of burnout, dissatisfaction with fandom, and disappointment in myself that caused my disinterest for Zvtara.
I got asks similar to this one a couple of times before, but I never gave a comprehensive answer, mainly because I didn't know how to articulate my reasons why I don't like it anymore. But now that I've been out of ZK fandom for a month and have had some time to reflect, I think I can give a much more thorough response. Beware, this is long and I heavily critique the Zvtara fandom, so if you're a ZK shipper, keep reading at your own risk.
My first minor annoyance with Zvtara is that the fandom has a tendency to idolize certain fics and creators. And while there’s certainly nothing inherently wrong about that, I feel like the Zvtara fandom does it to such an extent that it influences the type of content that content creators make in order to get recognition. And to illustrate my point, I’m going to talk about one of the most famous Zvtara fics of all time: Once Around The Sun by eleventy7.
Don’t get me wrong, I love OATS. I think it’s a great fanfic and I think the author devoted a lot of time and effort to make it such an excellent fic. The plot, the development of the characters and their relationships to one other, and the messages about family and love were all brilliantly written. I mean, there is a reason why it’s regarded as the “Zvtara Bible”. This one fanfic had such a profound impact upon the ZK fandom, and I think the biggest impact that came from it is the dramatic influx of post-war Zvtara AU fanfiction.
Because so many people kept reading OATS and recommending it to others, I think there was an overall interest in ZK fics that take place in a post-war setting. And I think that all of the high praise towards OATS made more fic writers start to write post-war fanfics because of this demand for post-war AU.* I normally wouldn't complain about it because more content is more content, but in my opinion, 99% of ZK post-war fics are the same fic but in different fonts.
Like, there's at least 3 of these elements in every ZK post-war fanfic:
Ambassador Katara
An assassination attempt (usually on Zuko's life)
A healing scene between Zuko and Katara (usually Katara heals Zuko)
Aang and/or Mai is pushed to the side or vilified to some extent in order to make ZK happen
A private journey between Zuko and Katara to facilitate #6
S L O W B U R N (that's not really slowburn and more like "I love you and I very much want to be vocal about my feelings but #7 is in this fic" but the love story takes up like 30 chapters so I guess it's a slowburn?)
Zuko's advisers don't want him to get married to Katara because ✨racism✨
Ursa is found
Azula is in the fic because a) she's going to get a healing arc ft. Zuko and Katara and thereby helps them get together or b) she's the villain and thereby helps them get together
ZK wedding happens in the FN
After reading multiple post-war fics back to back, I could tell that the format was pretty much the same across the board, which isn't very interesting for me to read. My only other fic options in the Zvtara tag on AO3 are canon divergence fics which almost always take place during The Crossroads of Destiny or after The Southern Raiders. And to some extent, those stories are pretty much the same too. There's nothing really new or creative going on in the ZK fandom fic-wise, and because of that, my interest in ZK fandom started to dwindle.
My second issue with Zvtara is that it's a very old ship from a very old show. Because there's been 10+ years since the end of A:TLA, every nuanced point about shipping and the show itself have been talked to death.** There's just nothing new to say. It's the same arguments being rehashed over and over again in the tag because there's no other interpretation one can come up with.
For example, there's so many people who talk about why Zvtara as depicted in The Southern Raiders is not toxic and that's great and all, but I (and most likely many others) have read those same points about five times already. And for some reason, each time this happens, people act like someone just discovered the lost city of Atlantis when they bring up their new-but-not-new argument in defense of Zvtara. Honestly, I'm ashamed to say that I'm not exempt from being part of the group of people that reiterate old arguments. I've done it with one of my posts about The Southern Raiders and I've done it again with my Zutara/Omashu parallels post.
There's no new content to really dissect and analyze (especially considering Zuko and Katara are rarely in the same panel in any of the post-war comics), and because of this, people are just restating points that someone else made several years ago.*** And even if someone did have a different interpretation of an episode, their ideas would most likely be shut down because for the past several years, the same interpretation has been recycled through the fandom repeatedly and people are resistant to new perspectives.
This brings me to the third thing that I dislike about Zvtara: the insistence that there can only be one way to interpret The Southern Raiders. For the longest time, I've read take after take that said if Katara decided to kill Yon Rha, it would be ok because that's her grief to deal with and if she thinks that's the best way to mete out justice, then good for her. And again, I'm ashamed to say that I perpetuated that idea in a few of my own posts. I have always thought that "Katara killing Yon Rha is ok" is just a bad take in general, but I didn't want to vocalize that opinion when so many people—so many of the nice mutuals that I made—all shared that same opinion. Taking down a popular opinion of your own ship is completely different from taking down a popular opinion of a ship that you dislike. The Zvtara fandom is the first fandom that I was actually active in and I wanted to fit in so badly with everyone else that I just parroted whatever other people said, even if I didn't agree with those sentiments.
This leads me to my final reason why I don't want to be a part of ZK fandom anymore. I think I established myself as a "meta" person pretty early on and because of that, I constantly felt pressured to come up with new takes on the ship. And when people started flooding my ask box with stuff like "Can you write a meta about your thoughts on the idea that 'Zuko only took Katara on that field trip in TSR because he wanted her to forgive him'?" and "What are your thoughts about antis saying Zuko and Katara are toxic because of TSR?", I realized that I don't need to come up with new takes. People just want me to paraphrase something that 10 other people said about the same exact topic, because if I said what I actually thought about the subject (i.e. there is some truth in what antis say about TSR and it's not as much of a "Zvtara episode" that most people make it out to be), I'd probably get ZK shippers in the replies telling me that I'm wrong because x, y, and z or "you shouldn't tag this as Zvtara".
And that was pretty much how my love for ZK turned into disinterest. I was and still am disappointed that I didn't stick to my personal opinions. For as much as I talk about herd mentality on Twitter, I certainly don't practice what I preach. In all honesty, the only reason why I held on so long to ZK fandom was because I had so many nice mutuals there and we all shared this collective distaste for antis. I think I started to become more anti-Zvkka and anti-Kataang than pro-Zvtara, which isn't what I wanted to do when I made this Tumblr blog.
The thing that made me joke about becoming anti-Zvtara was the fact that some ZK shippers just like to send shitty anons to people whom they've reblogged countless different metas from. Sending shitty anons to people in the first place is wrong, but sending them to people who tagged their posts correctly and did nothing wrong is just disgusting.
*I'm not a fic writer and can't speak for fic writers, but it definitely feels like a lot of ZK fic authors are pushing themselves to write the next OATS, and by doing so, they are proliferating the tag with post-war fics that have very similar aspects to OATS.
**I think that as more people point out the same nuanced points about Zvtara, it diminishes the actual significance of those points. Like, it's hard to explain but the more people talk about the subtleties of the ship, the more those parts become glaringly obvious and I become numb to their actual impact on the characters and the show.
***At this point, if someone wanted to make a new argument about Zvtara, I think they would have to look very closely at every little detail in every single one of their scenes together to find a crumb of new meta material. And speaking from experience, it's not very fun trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. Whenever I post a "meta" like that, I feel like I'm reaching to make a point that doesn't exist.

Have you noticed the thing in fanfics of children's lit where the writer gives the protagonist new parent figures? The parent figures say things like "no child should have had to do x!". PF's don't prevent protagonist from doing heroism but might ground them for it after. Under their care, the protagonist is likely to get a job, often at the business of the PF. Seems less common for the Animorph (more in ATLA and Harry Potter), but if you have seen this, what's going on? Why do writers do this?
Why do writers do this?
Welcome to the fandom renaissance, Nonny!  My best stab as to what’s going on here is that we’re seeing fewer and fewer shipping wars due to a whole range of forces from “the average age of fandom is increasing” to “there’s an ongoing post-monogamy societal shift.”   BUT that there’s still a desire to see relationship-building fic go in the gaps where (for instance) Pro-Jacob Anti-Edward fic used to go.  So instead of writing about Edward and Bella’s romance, people are writing about Edward and Carlisle’s mentorship, or Leah and Rosalie’s friendship.
What’s going on?
Again, a stab in the dark: it’s a really fun story premise, one that can get away from the way ships are sometimes fraught with baggage.  Found Family is intensely cathartic, in the sense that it takes characters who are miserable and/or lonely in canon and allows them to build loving relationships with each other.  It also (IMHO) reflects that trend among Millennial Whippersnappers to move away from nuclear definitions of “family” and toward embracing everything from polyamory to sexless romance to adult adoption.
Not only that, but it’s awesome in that it lets writers play so much with foils.  Stranger Things obviously does this Up to Eleven (pun intended): Steve’s an arrogant jerk when he’s interacting with Nancy but a dorky sweetheart around Dustin, Hopper’s at his worst around Joyce but at his best around El, Billy’s evil to Max but might be redeemable around his mom, etcetera.  This premise gives fan writers the chance to get wildly different characters into a room together — what if the Tonks family adopted Neville Longbottom? — and start playing out the fun potential.
Why Avatar and Harry Potter (but not Animorphs)?
In a word: FOILS.  Both AtLA and Harry Potter are series filled with good, bad, and ugly mentors, and both series have contrasts between the good and the bad.  For AtLA, it’s no accident that Zuko finally reuniting with his father in S3E1 is intercut with the scene of Katara finally reuniting with her father.  Katara’s fam airs their grievances, talks things out, yells, cries, apologizes, forgives, hugs, and affirms their ongoing love.  Zuko’s fam deals with having 500 times as much baggage by... Zuko kowtowing silently on the floor while Ozai talks about everything but their problems with each other.  After that sequence, the desire to get Zuko into a room with Hakoda for some proper fathering is practically overwhelming, and many brilliant fan writers have obliged us by doing exactly that.
For Harry Potter, there’s no scene that’s as in-your-face with the contrast between healthy vs. unhealthy disagreement with one’s father, but there are still plenty of mentor foils.  Sirius and Petunia are probably the clearest examples.  Sirius is a raging mess who (on the surface) has nothing to offer Harry: he’s an ex-con with a drinking problem and untreated mental health issues who spends much of the series homeless.  Petunia has her shit together and (on the surface) is the perfect guardian for Harry: she’s a wealthy full-time parent who lives in a large suburban house, and is both his closest surviving relative and his legal guardian.  But of course all Harry needs from a parent is love and support, and Sirius offers that in spades while Petunia has none to spare.  Again, the desire to rip Harry away from the Dursleys and ship him off to go be a Black is overwhelming, and many beautiful works of fan fiction have done exactly that.
Animorphs... doesn’t have mentor characters.  Like, none.  Elfangor dies, Toby does her own thing, Erek can’t be trusted, neither Ax nor Jake wants to mentor, and all adults are possible controllers.  Eva’s the closest we get, but by the time she’s free, everyone (especially Eva) recognizes that the Animorphs are already more experienced than her.  We don’t even see a dynamic like the Teen Titans show where the villains mentor the heroes — Jake and Marco might occasionally parallel Visser Three and Visser One, but they don’t learn from the vissers the way that Robin does from Slade or Raven does from Trigon.  The kids just... find their own way.  So while people have written fic where Elfangor or Eva or Mertil or Tom mentors the team, there’s not this in-your-face missed opportunity for the kids to get the parenting they deserve in Animorphs the way there is with Harry Potter and Avatar.
Have you noticed the thing?
Personally, I love this trend.  I’m not much of a shipper — I’m not fond of “will they or won’t they” romantic premises, and actively dislike “they will because they’re soulmates” premises.  My favorite Ship Dynamics are all platonic.  Like, my faves include (but are not limited to):
Grubby Semi-Feral Mentee and Aloof Socially-Incompetent Mentor Bond with Alarming Speed Over Niche Magical Interest (see: Briar and Rosethorn in Circle of Magic, Boy 412 and Marcia in Septimus Heap, Jason and Bruce in Batman, Wart and Merlin in The Once and Future King)

I’ve Only Known This Person With Extremely Specific Shared Trauma for 10 Minutes But If Anything Happened to Them I Would Kill Everyone (see: Toph and Zuko in AtLA, Luke and Annabeth in Demigod Diaries, Ax and Tobias in Animorphs, Spike and Angel in Angel, Parker and Eliot in Leverage, Johanna and Finnick in Catching Fire)
Saving the World Sucks But At Least My Ultra-Competent Siblings Are Suffering With Me (see: Edmund and Lucy in Chronicles of Narnia, Sam and Dean in Supernatural, the Hargreeveses in Umbrella Academy, the Crains in Haunting of Hill House)
Just Because I Tried to Kill You That One Time Doesn’t Mean I Won’t Help You Hide a Body, JFC We’re Still Family and I Don’t Know What You Take Me For (see: the Robins in Batman, Septimus and Simon in Septimus Heap, Kyle and Ian in The Host)
