Synopsis: You and Claire meet for the first time, but it doesn’t go so well at first.
Tumblr media
“Claire, this is Y/N.”
Claire barely spared the girl a glance as she dropped her gear next to the table in the bunker and headed off to find a shower.
It had seemed like the whole ride back from the hunt, Sam Winchester could speak of nothing but seeing his daughter again, and Claire was sick of the girl before they’d even met.
It didn’t help that Cas and Dean kept adding bits about how great you were, and how much you and Claire would get along. She hadn’t felt so ignored in a long time.
She knew, deep down, how childish she was being, but she couldn’t help it. Ever since her parents had died, those three idiots had been the closest thing she had to parents, besides Jody. Hearing that they had someone, someone better than her, someone actually related…
It hurt.
Claire had half expected Sam to come after here to give her some stupid talk about how she was feeling, but even after she finished getting cleaned up, he was nowhere to be found. She went to the library of the bunker to find you and Sam; he was listening with wrapt attention while you caught him up on your past few days.
“You go to school?” Claire asked when you were finished speaking, and you and Sam turned to look at her.
“Yeah, I’m not that involved with hunting,” you explained with a shrug. “I usually just help with research sometimes, but I’d rather focus on school.”
Claire didn’t respond. This was the girl that they thought she’d get along with? She didn’t even hunt!
“So what happens when your dad needs backup? You’re too busy in math class to care?”
“Hey, um—“ Sam interjected. “Claire, how about I show you around the bunker. Hey Y/N, can you go find Dean? I think he might’ve gotten hurt by one of the vamps, but he’s being too macho to admit it.”
“Sure,” you said quietly to your father, ignoring Claire as you passed her and headed to Dean’s room.
“What was that?” Sam asked, and Claire was annoyed by his gentle tone.
“What was what?”
“Don’t,” Sam said. “Don’t pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about. You don’t even know Y/N, why are being so cold to her?”
“Oh, sorry,” Claire scoffed. “I didn’t mean to upset your princess.”
“Stop it.” It wasn’t Sam that had spoken this time, but Cas, who just entered the room. “Claire, what is going on?”
“Nothing,” Claire huffed. “I just don’t like her, ok? Get over it.”
“You don’t even know her,” Sam argued.
“I know enough.”
“No, no you don’t. And I think if you try to talk to her, actually try, you two could get along.”
“Yeah right.”
“Claire—“
“You can’t make her like anybody.” All three of them turned at the sound of your voice in the doorway. “She can think what she wants, guys. Just leave her be.” You turned all of your attention to your dad. “Uncle Dean’s fine, by the way, but you look like you seriously need to crash.”
“Yeah, ok,” Sam sighed. “I’m gonna go get some sleep.”
“I should get some food, we’re almost out,” Cas added after Sam left. “Are you two—“
“I promise we won’t kill each other.” You rolled your eyes. “Go.”
Once you were alone with Claire, she turned to look at you.
“So what, now we bond?”
You scoffed. “Do I look like Sam? Like me, don’t like me, I don’t give a crap. I didn’t do a thing to you, but if you wanna hate me, knock yourself out.”
Claire suddenly felt a newfound respect for you; you didn’t take crap from her, which was a start.
“Can I ask you a question?” Claire began.
“You just did.”
Claire rolled her eyes and continued, “Why’d you lie to Sam? You said you checked on Dean, but you went to his room and he was in the kitchen.
You shrugged. “‘Go check on Uncle Dean’ is dad’s most obvious code for ‘I want to have a conversation about you’, so I figured I’d stick around.”
When Claire didn’t respond, you continued.
“Ok, so now it’s my turn for a question. Why do you hate me? I mean we haven’t even met before, and I’ve heard only great things about you.”
This got Claire’s attention.
“You have?”
“Yeah,” you scoffed. “The guys talk about you all the time, half the time it felt like you were a long-lost sister.”
“Gosh, is my face red?” Claire muttered, without as much sarcasm in her tone as she would’ve liked.
“What?” You asked.
“Look,” Claire sighed. “Most of the time, the guys can do nothing but talk about you. I mean Sam brags on you like your Mother Theresa or something, and I guess…I guess I was jealous.”
Claire half expected you to laugh, or to get angry, but you just smiled.
“You? Jealous of me?” You laughed, but not the cruel laugh that Claire had expected. “That’s crazy! I mean, you’re the one that goes on all those hunts with them, and they love you!”
“But I’m not their kid,” Claire argued. “I…look, after my parents died, Jody and those three guys were my only family. So when I found out they had their own…”
“You think just because I’m Sam’s daughter, I can somehow…what, take your place?” You shook your head. “Uncle Dean likes to say that family doesn’t end in blood. You’re their family—our family. I can’t take your place, and you can’t take mine. Those three idiots can love both of us, trust me.”
“Yeah,” Claire cracked a smile. “I guess they can.”

Spn Opinions That’ll Have Me Burned at the Stake Pt. 2: Electric Boogaloo
I’m back and bitchier than ever. For reference, here’s part 1.
• Season 5 wasn’t that great.
• D*stiel isn’t real, it’s a sucky ship, and that confession scene was just the writers pandering to the rabid deancas fans cause they knew they were the only ones still watching the show lol. And they left it ambiguous enough that they could still say it was meant platonically if they needed to.
• I hate how they watered down both angels and demons post-season 5ish.
• I liked Ruby 1.0 better than Ruby 2.0.
• I hate Honey!Cas. They just did that cause they didn’t know where to take his story from there, needed him out of the way, and thought it would be funny. It was insulting.
• Jack should’ve been played by an actual child so everyone’s abuse of him would resonate with the audience for what it was (casual fans are brain dead and need to be spoon fed).
• Victor Henrikson deserved more time on the show.
• I said it in the last post, but Alex is way more interesting than Claire and should’ve been given the lead role in the wayward sisters storyline instead.
• Dean is canonically straight and for Christ sake if you guys wanted bi rep, there’s about a thousand other characters that are strongly coded or implied to be bisexual (including Sam!) but y’all didn’t focus on them because it wasn’t actually about representation, it was about making it more plausible for your dumb fetishised gay ship to actually happen (spoiler: it didn’t).
• Season 3 and Season 6 were some of the best ones, you guys just don’t have any taste.
• Claire is not Castiel’s daughter and saying she is erases Jimmy and insults her, and even Cas himself acknowledged that on the show.
• Castiel is canonically NOT gay and Misha constantly saying he is is annoying and airheaded. He’s been attracted to women IN THE SHOW and he’s not even really male, so calling him a Gay Man is reductive and just plain wrong. Also, it’s veeery sus that- given how bi/pan folks are even more underrepresented than gay people- that one of the rare times where the bi/pan label actually fits a character BETTER in CANON……. the allies and monosexuals adamantly reject it. Hm.
• “Curing” vampires or werewolves or demons shouldn’t have been a thing.
• The Winchesters cause most of the bad shit that happens and then they just force supernatural beings to fix it for them- tell me again how they’re Super Special Heroes.
• It shouldn’t be possible to make angels human by removing their grace, because (unlike demons, werewolves, etc) they were never human to start with. If you drained me of all my blood, I wouldn’t magically transform into another species, I’d fucking die.
• Making Billie go crazy was dumb.
• Rowena was one of the most interesting and charismatic characters on the whole show- they just didn’t know what to do with her character.
• The archangels, Lilith, and Azazel should’ve been the biggest threats on the show. No other knights of hell, no god and his sister, no Cain, nothing like that. Having every villain just get progressively more overpowered made the show unbelievable and repetitive and annoying.
• The kernel sanders king of hell guy was hot.
• Dean is misogynistic as HELL, homophobic, likes racist porn, is a narcissist, pervs on teen girls, & thinks all non-human people should be exterminated… and that is all CANON.
• Most of John Winchester’s abuse is fanon.
• Fans portraying Cas as a smol bby who colours in colouring books and has a bee plushie is so fucking annoying.
• Instead of having so many gigantic cosmic storylines with god and his sister and alternate dimensions and even the angel and demon tablets, they should’ve just scrapped those and made the stein family and the bmol and the alpha vampire storylines way bigger than they were. Less cosmic stuff, more earth-based stuff.
• They ruined Lucifer’s character post-season 5. Before that, he was more sympathetic and reasonable than Michael. After, he was a spoiled child hurting people for fun.
• Everything from season 7 on is garbage. All of it. There’s bits of goodness here and there but overall seasons 7-15 are trash.
• How the fuck are there actual people who are deangirls and hate Sam?? The space where your brain should be is empty, I swear to god.
• If there was gonna be any lgbt rep in the Wayward Sisters group, it should’ve been Jody and Donna instead of Claire and Kaia. Those two were boring as hell and had zero chemistry or build-up, but Jody/Donna had plenty of chemistry and was very believable.
• Meg has the best and most realistic redemption arc of anyone on the show.
• Chuck was not likeable or charismatic enough to carry off as big of a villain arc as they gave him. Also that whole thing was stupid and WAY too Out There.
• All the angels should’ve been aroace. All the demons should’ve been pan.
• I stanned Cole so hard up until he changed his mind about hating Dean. That was disappointing.
• Sam went through the same shitty childhood Dean did (plus Bonus Abuse on top of it) and he didn’t turn out Like That.
• I cannot think of a single person that was asking for a spin-off about the Winchester family, like that has to be the most boring thing.

Let's Talk About Love by Claire Kann
"'Fuck, I love you. I think sometimes my mind blocks out how much, so every time I remember feels like the first time I'm realizing it.'"
Year Read: 2023
Rating: 3/5
About: Alice's girlfriend just broke up with her because she's asexual. Alright, she didn't put it in those words exactly, but otherwise, she might have just followed a script. Alice has had more than enough of dating when the new guy at her library job turns up looking like a model in a male fragrance ad, effectively breaking her tried and tested Cutie Code. As they grow closer as friends, Alice has to decide whether to risk their friendship for a romance with someone who may not understand or accept her orientation. Trigger warnings: acephobia (countered), sexual harassment, parental manipulation, violence references.
Thoughts: This is a fluffy, adorable romance with great biromantic/asexual representation, and you should read it for all the reasons people say you should. I really enjoyed the perspective of an ace character, and Alice's narration does an excellent job in breaking down the differences between aesthetic, romantic, and sexual attraction. She literally has a code for it to help make it clearer for herself and the reader. I liked her a lot as a main character. She's cute and a little self-centered, and I like main characters who acknowledge their flaws. She also loves food and pop culture references, which I'm here for (we’re both Dean girls), and the writing itself is often funny.
Unfortunately, I had zero feelings whatsoever about her love interest, Takumi. He never felt fully like a real person to me, but ace romances deserve that too-good-and-beautiful-to-be true male lead as much as hetero romances, and the genre as a whole is littered with those. There also just isn't much going on here besides fluffy cutes between Alice and Takumi, aside from some minor conflicts with her friends and family that don't get quite enough development or attention. Again, this is something I struggle with in the romance genre as a whole, since I prefer to have things going on outside of the romance, but that's more personal preference than anything. If it sounds like a book you'd like, it probably is.

i guess i can concede that claire is dean coded, if only cause sam is clearly her favourite member of tfw by virtue of the fact he a) is not possessing the corpse of her father or b) has never pointed a gun at her girlfriend

Hello💜👋 from one "could have been amazing if spn was better" character lover to another
Emma and Magda could either love or hate each other instantly.💜
I am in the camp that Emma would like everyone at first. Mostly because they’re def parallels of the boys. Magda the physic who things she’s the devil and Emma the half-monster who didn’t have a childhood would get along great! It astonishes me like Magda remembers her life before being confined to the basement. I think Emma would help her to remember that time, come out of her shell.
I definitely would love for Sam to take Magda in and but if she hadn’t of had a living family member they would have taken her to Jody’s. Mostly because Sam and Dean don’t really have child rearing experience. However, if we’re going by my personal supernatural AU which I shall now dub…Uh… familynatural? Uh yea so I’m calling it familynatural now because I’m unoriginal lol…anyways…Magda gains a lot of family when Sam & Dean take her in.
More under the cut because this got long
So familynatural…
This is definitely going to be similar to @milfcodeddean’s babiesnatural which you should definitely check out! Except I am keeping everyone their canon ages and Kevin, Emma, Benny, & Charlie don’t die. Sorry Lisa & Nora…but your getting fridged for the greater good of TFW’s happiness 🥶
By the time Magda would roll around Dean & Benny would have Bobby John (age 6), Ben (age 18), and Emma (age 20). Ideally, they are based out of Lebanon and live in the bunker with Charlie and Cas. Kevin (age 21) is in Princeton getting a dual degree in the Classics (thanks to being a prophet!) and Conputer Engineering.
He and Charlie will have modernized, as best they can, the tech in the bunker. Do you remember that tablet she made that Sam was jealous of (in Pac-Man fever I think)? Yeah, the whole bunker would have that kinda tech. But since it’s magical it would kinda be held together with spell-o-tape and glue until Rowena arrives and offers her help.
Yes this is also Charlie/Rowena too mostly because I think they’d be cute and so did the writer thats why cut their scene it was too powerful They would be so cute together! Honestly, while I don’t think Cyrus would consider them his moms…I think they would take charge of making sure he doesn’t get into mischief.
Then we have Sam & Eileen who have Rosie Holt (age 10), Jesse Turner (age 18), Jacob Pond (age 16) and then Krissy, Aidan, & Josephine (ages 17-18). I am a staunch believer that Krissy should have been Sam-coded (and had the better relationship with him) because he was the one she had the most initial contact with! But that’s a rant for another time…
I also secretly love Sam/Amy so in this AU Dean doesn’t kill her…another hunter does. Like, Sam tracks her down like last time and he spares her. But instead let’s say he runs into Martin or someone and they take her out and him and Dean save Jacob…who he finds out it secretly his…boom
Then they’d have Magda, who I think is 16 in S12? And I think she’d be a bit overwhelmed by the family she’d be coming into to say the least. She would go from having an older brother to having a younger sister, younger brother, and two older sister and brother. Not to mention all the cousins’ she’d have…
It would be an adjustment period to say the least…especially considering the youngest amongst them is Cas’ daughter Tanya who is three-years old. Yes I am subscribing to @8daysuntiltheapocalypseiguess’s secret Cas takes Tanya AU!
Cas also has Claire who he sees as his own kid but I think like canon they’d be not very close. I do think Jody, Alex, Ann’s Claire do visit. Also this is Jody/Linda, the most underrated ship so Linda lives in Sioux Falls with them and Kevin is a wayward sister! Also speaking of wayward sisters…Missouri doesn’t die but Patience still gets disowned so she lives with her grandmother (who for these purposes was the one to live in Sioux Falls). And they also rehabilitate Dark Kaia who goes by the name Maia!
And since Donna is single…I’ve always her shipped her with Gabriel. I mean, I think they would crack each other up! They have similar senses of humor and I think Gabriel would get a kick out of scaring Doug with his angelic powers.
But Uh…yeah this AU also features two de-aged characters (in a sense) Amara and Jack. Dean would raise Amara with Benny and Cas would raise Jack with Kelly. Though I think in this AU, Kelly and Cas would be QTPs. In this AU, for me, Cas is Aromantic Asexual (because I might be projecting a bit) and Kelly would be Biromantic Demisexual. So the two of them have Jack (newborn) and Tanya (3 year old). It they are living every minute of it.
By the time the final rolls around, Sam would be together with Eileen. The two of them would become the heads of the hunting community, opening the bunker to all (a la the Roadhouse). Rosie, Jesse, and Magda, would be great siblings to Dean Jr…who we are naming James Dean “JD” Winchester. I also think they’d have a daughter named Lillian Maura.
Rosie, I think, would want a normal life and follow in her father’s footsteps and become a lawyer. Magda would train her powers so that she could no longer hurt people. I think she would maybe study folklore and become a professor! Maybe come a hunter resource (a la Pamela) being on the fringe of hunting.
Dean and Benny would open a place like Sonny’s for monster kids. Jacob, Emma, Jesse, would probably help out at this place. Jacob and Jesse I see being entrenched in hunting, taking up that life as their job. Jacob, I think, would be their scout for monster kids. Emma would probably go with him to help convince the kids to comfort them. I think Jesse would maybe become a Latin scholar and maybe work with the church as a Pastor Jim type character.
Krissy, I think, would follow in Dean’s footsteps as a hunter, as would Aidan and Josephine. I think Ben would be the ‘Alex’ of the group and want a normal life outside of hunting. I think he would become a doctor as a counterbalance to all the problems he had in his life. He might work at a local hospital and work part-time at the ranch with his dads.
Bobby John I headcanon following in Dr. Mia Vallens and become a grief counselor. Cyrus I believe would be like Charlie but I also think he would try and combine Magic and technology. I think he’d try
Cas and Kelly get to live in their lake house in North Cove, Washington. I think Jack would unintentionally heal Cas completely making him a full-powered seraph again. Jack and Tanya would be the best of siblings and I think Jack would benefit from a kid near his age.
Um…in this universe honestly, I could see Jack wanting to go into politics like his parents. Honestly Jack as the future president would be absolutely hilarious!!! As for Tanya…not sure. I think she could be a witch like her aunt Rowena, that could be nice. Maybe she’d want a quieter life like she probably has with her parents. OH — Cas has bees at the house, Tanya is a beekeeper like her father.
TL;DR
DeanBenny Kids: Ben, Bobby John, & Emma [and Kevin technically].
Sam/Eileen Kids: Rosie Holt, Jesse Turner, Jacob Pond, Krissy, Aidan, & Josephine
Charlie/Rowena: Cyrus Styne
Cas & Kelly: Tanya & Jack
Jody/Linda: Kevin, Alex, & Claire.
Ships:
DeanBenny
Sam/Eileen
Charlie/Rowena
Cas & Kelly (Queerplatonic)
Deamhunter
Magda Peterson/Jesse Turner
Emma/Dark Kaia
Ben Braeden/Alex Jones
Fun Fact! I have the majority of the Emma & Magda fics in that tag on Ao3. Who would have guessed? 😂
Idk how to tag people but I guess I’ll tag the emmanatural mutuals: @milfcodeddean @scarecrowmax

Hey I saw your post about Bela calling her a "dean coded sam girl". I keep seeing people say things like this but I don't understand. Can you explain what "dean/sam/ cas coded dean/sam/cas girl" means, please?
sure! so dean/cas/sam girl (gender neutral) is who their ~*~fave~*~ is. like, cas is a “dean girl” because the person he’s most closely aligned with and the person he likes the most is dean. i said that bela was a sam girl mostly because sam has a big crush on her and, in my view, she actually didn’t like dean that much at all which brings me tooooooo
dean/sam/cas coded. so if a characcter is coded, in this sense, it means that it is sort of implied to be like that thing -- coding can be intentional or not. SO, like, in harry potter, the goblins are coded as jewish (which is why it’s hella anti-Semitic). The goblins are not actually, canonically, jewish but through the tropes and features they’re given, the audience will relate them, subconsciously or not, to jewish characters. most of fandom agrees that dean is queer coded because they read a lot of his behaviors as queer.
so to say that bela is dean-coded it means that her character echoes his: child abuse, mommy/daddy issues, guilt-ridden, snarky, flirty, smarter than she pretends, and of course, she has the whole demon deal. we, as an audience, look at bela and are reminded of dean. (and, for me, this is why i don’t consider her a “dean girl.” a character COULD be a dean-coded dean girl, but with bela and dean, to me, the their similarities actually what drives them to hate each other, despite the flirting)
some other examples for you, based on my personal readings of the characters:
claire is a dean-coded (a fighter, daddy issues, young hunter, no sense of self-preservation, found family is important) cas girl (her closest relationship in TFW is to cas and we see that she has an affection and affinity for him that is stronger than to dean and/or sam)
kevin is a sam-coded (genius, resistant to hunting/just wants to be normal, pulled away from promising career, supernatural power that he doesn’t quite love) sam girl (his closest relationship is to sam and most of his interactions are with sam)
benny is a cas-coded (supernatural being, comes from a different plane of existence, has strained allegiance to a sect opposing TFW, proves himself in battle, dry sense of humor) dean girl (closest relationship is to dean and nearly all of his positive interactions are with dean)
one last thing - these labels are HELLA subjective because you could argue kinda whatever point you want? i’m sure a lot of other fans would call bela a dean girl! and that’s fine - that’s their interpretation. like, charlie could read as dean-coded (complicated relationship with parents, wants to hunt and help others, queer) or sam-coded (genius, computer stuff, younger sibling dynamic with dean, trying to make her own path separate from her family) OR cas coded (one foot in two worlds, a little awkward/out of place), depending on how you relate to the character, and i could see her as either a cas girl or a dean girl. to me, personally, she’s a sam-coded dean girl but if someone else feels something else for her, that’s totally chill!!

On the ending of Supernatural
Hi, I’ve never actually posted anything on Tumblr of my own creation (I mostly reblog stuff), but I’ve just seen the ending of Supernatural, and given that this is where I’ve been fed my SPN content, it felt right to share my thoughts here. I’m sure nobody is going to read this, but whatever, I just need to get this out of my chest. Sorry in advance if this is too long, but I have to type this out if I want to move on.
I still need to take some time to process everything that’s happened, because it is a lot. I did have my hopes up for the finale, thinking that Cas would at least show up, but like many of the fans, I was let down.
So I guess that would be the first issue I had with the episode. Regardless of what Dean felt towards Cas, if he reciprocated his feelings or not (which he totally did, I mean, we have all been watching the same show for 12 fucking years, and if you don’t believe me, there are plenty of metas that would support this statement), he still is his best friend and it doesn’t sit right with me the fact that he doesn’t even try to find a way to rescue Cas from the Empty. And okay, maybe he didn’t, make Cas got resurrected by Jack, then why the hell wasn’t he on the final episode? He was a pivotal character for the series, I mean, the proof is in the ratings: Season 7, when he was killed off to apparently never return, the ratings were at their lowest. The show may have started as just Dean and Sam, but over the years it became much bigger than them, and it is so disappointing that the show runners failed to acknowledge it. But I’ll get back to this point later.
Okay, I need to talk about Dean’s death, the only part of the episode that made me cry, because my poor baby had to suffer so much! Like, when he started saying that Sam never put up with John’s crap (which reinforces my headcanon that John was abusive towards the boys) and how much he admired him for it, my heart just shattered. I just love Dean Winchester so freaking much, and they did him so dirty... Don’t get me wrong, Jensen and Jared’s acting was 10/10, like, I thought I had a grip of myself and then Sam started crying and tears came back to my eyes. Nonetheless, I felt that the scene was so freaking long! I mean, Dean was dying, and he had time to make a 10 minutes-long speech! C’mon! Also, I get that Sam and Dean’s relationship is quite deep and strong and whatever, but I felt a bit unconformable watching it: it didn’t feel like a brotherly goodbye, more like a lover’s one. They were too touchy and intimate, and, overall, their relationship from this point on was coded as a romantic one, in my opinion. And Chuck, did I hate it! I have an older brother and I know what it is like to be close to your sibling and to love him more than anything else in the world, but the way they portrayed their relationship on this last episode felt incest-y, which makes me believe that this scene was originally written with another character in mind (cough CAS cough) or the writers don’t know the difference between romantic and brotherly love. To finish off, the way they killed off Dean??? I mean, I did expect Dean to die, but this was such a horrible and ridiculous way to go... I would have accepted it if he died actually fighting, but impaled??? After all he’s been through, after fighting so many demons, angels and deities, that’s how he dies??? That just felt cheap and rushed. Dean did not deserve that ending and I refuse to accept it. In fact, I refuse to acknowledge the existence of this whole fucking mess of an episode. Also, I just can’t believe that no one showed up to Dean’s funeral. I just can’t. I get that maybe it was difficult to bring in a lot of actors due to the pandemic, but they could have added them on post-production...
Next, we have Sam’s ending. He quits hunting and finally obtains his white-picket fence life. I did like the fact that he honored all of his friends and family that he lost along the way, especially Dean. Like, yes, if my brother died, I would like to keep a token (don’t know if that’s the actual word for it, my first language is not English), to have something with me that reminded me of him and to have him with me wherever I go. And I did like that he named his son Dean, in honor of his brother. However, we don’t know how he met his wife, we don’t even know who she is. They set up Sameileen for what?? Like, Sam and Eileen deserved better, tbh. And, again, even with Covid restrictions they could have done something to signal that Sam got married to Eileen, you don’t need the actor there. In fact, we never actually found out what happened to her, and just like I can’t believe that Dean didn’t even try to save Cas from the Empty, I can’t believe that Sam didn’t reach out to Eileen. Furthermore, the montage with his son felt cheap and a way to try to appeal to the audience’s emotions... (Btw, as a side note, the grey wig and the glasses, my god, they did Jared dirty 😂😂). But it wasn’t doing it for me, I didn’t care much for the kid, and while I do believe that was always going to be Sam’s ending, I didn’t like how it was executed.
And the worst part of it all: that suuuuuper long scene with Dean driving in Heaven, waiting for Sam. They could have used that time to show something more meaningful, even to develop a bit more Sam’s new life, how he adjusted to domesticity and fatherhood and all that crap. Or, I don’t know, A TEAM FREE WILL 2.0 REUNION??? And I guess this is my biggest issue with the whole episode. I get it, Sam and Dean are the central characters, the ones that started it all, but family don’t end with blood, and they were not the only ones who deserved a goodbye. They had formed so many bonds and friendships over the years, and to not have them address them on the final episode just feels infuriating. Especially Cas. His arc was not finished, he deserved to be on the finale. We never got Dean’s reaction to his confession, we don’t know how he felt about him, nor did Cas get to say goodbye to any other character. How did he get out of the Empty? What is he doing now? Is he still an angel? Also, he gave his life to save Dean, only for Dean to be killed not long after. My headcanon that is helping me cope with Dean’s death is thinking that he was so quick to accept his death because he was hoping to reunite in Heaven with Castiel. A girl can dream, ok??? But also, what about Jack? He is the new God, but I highly doubt it that he won’t drop by the Bunker from time to time, after all, Sam and Dean (AND CAS, ESPECIALLY CAS) raised him. And Charlie? Did she get back with Stevie? Did she and the boys go for drinks from time to time? And Jody? Donna? Claire? Sorry to be so repetitive, but I just can’t understand why the writers thought that these characters weren’t important enough to deserve a spot on the finale, and not just an off-hand mention (and not even all of them got that). Of course, the brothers are the main characters and their goodbye must be the longest and the most emotional of them all, but like I said before, the show stopped being just about the Winchesters on season 3, when Bobby was first introduced, maybe even 4, with Cas.
Overall, the finale left a lot of questions unanswered, most of them regarding secondary characters (but not less important for that!), completely destroyed Sam and Dean’s character development (Dean never got to be free, like he had been fighting for all season, probably all his life; Sam’s development is non-existing, as he ended up as he would’ve if he never had gotten on that hunting trip with Dean 15 years ago), and completely disregarded all the themes they had been setting up this season, probably on previous ones as well. It is sad knowing that the writers, either don’t know the show good enough to give it a proper goodbye, or they just didn’t care to do so. I don’t know who’s to blame here (definitely not the actors, though, probably someone higher up the chain), but I just know that I am so fucking disappointed. I expected more from the last episode of a 15-season TV show, one that has been part of my life for 7 years. I guess, that despite all of it, I can’t hate Supernatural. Maybe I was not a hardcore fan like some people on this site, but I did care for the characters and what happened to them. This is the show that introduced me to the world of shipping (Destiel will always hold a special place in my heart, it doesn’t matter how badly their relationship was treated, as well as the characters) and I got to discover one of my favorite characters, Dean Winchester. He is just such so complex, one that I relate to on so many levels, and his relationship with Cas has been the source of many short stories that I’ve never posted anywhere, but that have made me take up writing again. That’s the reason why I love the show so much, it has helped me tap into my creativeness and go back to writing, a passion of mine that I seem to have forgotten over the years. Anyways, maybe one day I’ll publish some of those stories, and maybe even write my own fix-it fanfic, but right now, I can’t deal with anything that has to do with the show, I am too hurt. Maybe once the five stages of grief are over, I might give it a try and read all of the amazing codas and fanfics that I’m sure will be posted here or on AO3. But for now, Supernatural is dead and gone, and I don’t want to talk nor think about it anymore. I’m done wasting my time here, because I feel like that’s what I’ve been doing this past 7 years after watching this crap of a finale.
To finish this long rant off, I just want to say thank you to some meta-writers, the true heroes of the fandom. Thanks to them, I carried on watching the show, because they made me have hope that things will get better. They are the ones that have made this experience worth something, and even though I’ve never spoken to any of them, I see you and I love you. Thanks for everything ❤.

My god, so everyone espousing the virtues of 'things happen' are totally right, it is absolutely wonderful, but the one of yours that gets me the hardest is without a doubt 'what's missing is found (our souls can exhale now).' Dean and Kaia bonding! Dean's horrible grief! THE CATHARSIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no, because i will literally never shut up about the idea of dean and kaia bonding.
Claire is a Dean-coded Cas-girl! She is LITERALLY Dean's parallel!!!! LITERALLY! And then Claire/Kaia is paralleled to Dean/Cas???? So, naturally, Kaia is paralleled to Cas! And she is, y'all.
No, hear me out, okay? Kaia is a Dreamwalker. She's other. She's not a normal person. (Cas: angel. hello???) Kaia went through psychological torture because of her dreams and the Bad Place. (Cas: naomi, conversion therapy/torture.) Kaia broke THROUGH that torture/fear FOR Claire—that whole "I'll go with you" scene, pfft, no one touch me I'm going to chew on glass. (Cas, again: breakthrough for Dean, the crypt scene, you know.) Kaia was willing and tried to save Claire by sacrificing her own life. (Cas: please don't ask me to draw parallels between Kaia jumping in front of a spear for Claire and the way Cas let the Empty take him, I will cry.) Like come on, need I say more? I can say more, that's how serious I am. Kaia IS Cas' parallel.
Which means that she would 100% be a Cas-coded Dean-girl, and Dean would be so fucking fond of her, oh my goddddd. I mean, even if you wanna think about it as a meme a little—Dean once stabbed Cas after meeting him, and what did Dean do to Kaia? Put a gun to her head. Fucked up? Yes. An opportunity for bonding? It's Supernatural, so yes. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO BE BUDDIES. DEAN WOULD HAVE CARED ABOUT HER SO MUCH, JUST THE WAY CAS CARES ABOUT CLAIRE. WE DESERVED THIS.
im a dean and kaia bonding truther, no one can take this away from me. cas and claire are the big, ridiculous loves of their lives. dean and kaia smoking! dean teaching kaia about cars! dean and kaia sharing looks whenever cas and claire are being silly! kaia not fitting into the usual hunter stereotype (like cas) and dean making her feel better about it! kaia thinking claire is so hot and dean finding it hilarious, but also understanding her struggle because cas exists! kaia telling dean that he and cas need to communicate better, and dean distracts her until she stops calling him out! kaia drawing dean, and dean just lets her! dean and kaia bonding over never really sleeping well! i mean??? the list goes on and on, folks.
oh, i got a little carried away with this one, huh? well, thank you, im glad you liked it ☺️

Did Bobo really create the Wayward Sisters? If so, why weren't Jack and especially Cas included in that episode? That's my biggest issue with that pilot honestly, I mean, the fact that the show abandoned Claire and Cas' bond after season 10 and gave that storyline to Salmondean. Her bond with Cas is more interesting because of their connection to the Novaks. I also think that Claire and Jack would've made a more engaging dynamic and spin off together, I think they're strong characters & actors
Hi there!
Bobo isn’t the “creator” of Wayward so much as it can even have one, as it was a very organic idea, which even involved a healthy amount of fandom input. The original campaign in season 10 was for Wayward Daughters, and the idea picked up so much steam the altered title for, I guess, a mix of copyright and thematic relevance was the Sisters one. I’d say 10x08 was the real genesis of it as something that could be really solid. Once Kim and Briana were put together the chemistry and star power they could have had together was really meteoric as far as our small SPN world was concerned. Phil Sgriccia directed 9x13 and wrote 10x08 and was more of the parent of Wayward than any specific writer in that sense. Jody and Claire were pretty much common property of the show by that point. Claire was really introduced again in relation to plotlines and questions about Cas and less to do with them really going out of their way to re-launch her. I think they’d have been much cornier about it from the start and while YA protagonist diary writing her way through the end of Wayward Sisters was cute, it’s the sort of cutesy that really has to be earned. If she STARTED that way, like maybe me and 3 friends would be stanning her and everyone else would be revolted :P
(I am a YA fantasy novel author, but I do think everyone should make room in their hearts for this level of cheese)
In any case, Bobo just threw his hat into an already crowded ring with Alex, but obviously loving the characters and having his own personal wayward child to contribute did help elevate him to the prospective showrunner seat, but also all the other writers who’d written these characters except Dabb had left at that point. If Bobo was going to shepherd them through to their new show, he’d be the legacy writer, even though he was a new baby writer in the season Donna was introduced... Attrition aside, he did genuinely write them very well, loved their stories and was great with writing Jody when he could get her, so he would also have been a good choice even if all the others were left still...
But anyway. Season 10′s subplot for Cas was about Claire and learning some stuff about himself along the way, but she was used very much for his personal development and for Dean as well, being a mini Dean herself in a season where he had lost a lot of his sense of self. It’s a total accident of scheduling but Angel Heart (10x20) being the last episode before 10x22 is a nice touch in that regard. And while Cas tried really hard with Claire and awoke his inner Dad side so that he’d be more prepared for fatherhood next time, it was pretty insurmountable between them to have anything more than a bittersweet relationship where the best he could do was make up with her and see her somewhere safe. The fact of him looking like her actual dead father is horrendous the more you think about it and while she managed to see him for who he was instead of a horrible monster, that’s more than enough trauma to inflict on an already traumatised girl for the sake of helping Cas’s manpain and tidying up the sticky question of Jimmy and Cas’s right to the vessel.
Angel Heart very specifically ends with TFW mailing Claire to Jody because they know she’s already good with Alex in a genuine way and can handle these sort of issues and has done it before. And also because she can be a guardian who will not constantly remind Claire that her father is dead but something is walking around wearing a perfect reconstruction of his face. Carver era did a few things here and there with bodily autonomy and the problem of angel and demon vessels, but it was also really hit and miss. They’d get random waves of feeling guilty about it but then by necessity go back to stabbing angels in their still-living vessels an episode later. Claire was a way to address at the very least that whatever Cas was being put through was only a punishment on Cas and not on Jimmy as well, which is probably why we got such sappy Heaven scenes. We NEEDED to be shown he was in Heaven and largely okay with what was going on so that the show could justify using Cas at all as a character without breaking the code of ethics they tried to make their own characters adhere to. Aside from that it also gave Cas a side plot for when he wasn’t needed in the main plot, and any emotional connection to anything that wasn’t Sam and Dean.
Anyway 10x20 caused this huge fandom high which was followed by one of the lowest lows of the fandom immediately after, and both centred on female characters (in fact, now we know, 2 lesbians even! Though I’d wonder if, The Gay Agenda aside, Bobo spite-wrote that specifically because of the roots of Wayward) and I think that galvanised the whole movement of fans and hopefully some self-reflection in the show. They DID start making an effort in season 11, which shows some of the early signs of better inclusion but also backtracking or edging nervously away from the more intense Carver era stuff. Not just because Dean didn’t have the Mark any more but in general it was like someone had opened a window and let in some fresh air... Even before Carver bailed somewhere around the midseason to go do a different show and Dabb started to step up.
All this to say that the Wayward stuff was always about the female characters and making up for the past sins of the show. It’s even a riff on the “wayward son” line which obviously centres around male protagonists and their journey. Claire stumbled into being a part of it in the lucky way of being in the right place and time, but the journey had already started even in the season 10 momentum with earlier work and it was that which suddenly made the prospect that Jody had two young women living with her now seem like a starter for the next generation of the show as it was a mirrored format to season 1 in a way, if you took Alex and Claire as the new Sam and Dean. It was exciting but people flipped out after Angel Heart because stuff had been bubbling since season 9 and earlier in season 10, so this was just pouring more candy into an already visibly full bowl of potential tasty gems. It made a possibility seem real that hadn’t before because we already had Kim bitterly complaining that the CW refused to hear the case for a Jody spin off because she was too old. The next best thing was a Jody spin off where she was the Gandalf to some CW age appropriate characters.
(the CW is and always has been garbage)
Anyway in season 13 Jack was introduced as a Claire 2.0 but as a male character with staying power for that reason, but he was filling the space she left for Cas. He couldn’t be a father to her and neither really wanted that set up anyway. But thematically it had created the possibility of Dadstiel and the space he had in his heart for that. Since the show was in its waning years they would be looking for endgame and handing Cas an easy win with a son he could unconditionally love who would love him back unconditionally absolutely filled that gap. It was a non SamnDean thing that Cas could have for himself outside of whatever happened with them. Not sure the memo came back that he was supposed to have mORE than that but oh well it’s not real if you don’t watch it :))) But yeah Jack was always going to be linked to Cas’s endgame, he wasn’t a free-floating character such as Jody who could go where she wanted and do as she pleased. He was main story relevant from start to finish and tied inexorably to another main character’s fate. Because the show wouldn’t do that with its female characters they could be bundled into spin offs but in practical terms Jack was both never what the Wayward as envisioned by fans or writers was about, nor would he have been free to go.
Since it would have been about centering the stories of people overlooked by the main story, Claire a case in point that she had her life ruined in season 4 and it was a footnote until season ten, and then metaphorically more the concept of having queer and non-white characters in the mix of main characters, it would have represented a future of the story where the main show was unable to tread. Probably because of the CW. Also inherent biases in the writers. Bad cocktail. Jack is both too white and too male to fit the brief to ever leave SPN, and not only that but he is so as a precise mirror to the main white male characters, being passably any one of their sons if you squint, and meant to be instantly instinctively read as such... he was one of the safest bets of representing the show as the network wanted to imagine its target demographic.
So I really don’t think that Jack has any place being in a spin off of the show unless you want more of the same. They tried to give us something different and the CW didn’t like it because it wasn’t more of the same. Ironically a Jack spin off, with or without Claire, would have more chance of being greenlit and more chance of success. But the spin off they put their heart behind was Wayward Sisters as it was. And I think it was absolutely correct that never mind leaving Jack out of it after his work was done in the lead up episode to help set the table, but honestly they could have cut all the middle scenes of Sam and Dean wandering in the woods and gained precious seconds with the girls and still had a functioning story with those guys. It was like some cowardly missive was sent that the show couldn’t actually go more than 10 minutes without showing a flesh and blood Winchester or the whole thing would spontaneously sizzle out of syndication and the money tree would wither on the spot. And in the mean time, we could have been having Banter with the girls. Or Claire and Kaia holding hands some more. The good stuff :P

They arrive at Dean’s club and Dean takes her hand, whisking her in through the back door. She remembers where she is now when Dean pulls her along the hallway of the rooms. All the lights above them are red.
Dean opens the door to the VIP room for her and they slip in. However, Dean has a tight grip around her waist, probably doesn’t want her to stray too far into the room and disappear.
“We just watch from here,” He says, his voice rough and deep, and he stands back, leans himself against the wall and pulls her in front of him, his one hand on her waist and the other one on her shoulder.
She takes in the scene before her. Half of the people are naked, their bodies oily from the oil they applied onto each other. The room smells of spices and herbs.
Bodies are grinding against each other, kissing, dancing. A group of people are engaged in an orgy right in the middle of the setting. And she can’t help it, but seeing this turns her on so much. It’s the aesthetics of it all, the joy on their faces, the determination, the lust that’s hanging thick in the air. She can see that everyone is really and truly enjoying this.
Dean’s massaging her shoulder and she feels his hot breath on the back of her neck, “You like this?”
She gnaws on her bottom lip, and turns around in his grip, “Yeah,”
He chuckles, reaching out to flicker a finger against her peaked nipple, “I can see that.”
“Aren’t you turned on? At least a little?” She asks, and looks up at him, sees him looking back at her with hunger in his eyes. He is, she realizes, and she wonders what it is that turns him on.
“I am,” He answers truthfully, places his hands on her shoulders and rubs up and down her upper arm, “But not by them.”
“You know, I don’t understand,” She says. Her hands are playing with the buttons of his dress shirt and Dean jolts up at her touch, “You have everything for a great sex life right under your fucking roof and you tell me that you never ever engaged in any of this? Why?”
“Because that’s not really what I want,” He answers simply but she feels his gaze on her. It makes her skin burn.
Her cheeks start to flare up while all the blood rushes to her head, and then she thinks, she’s over this. She’s over being the shy girl. The damsel in distress that people need to save. Because that’s not her. She survived so many things in her life and why can’t she take something for herself that would make her happy? Even if it’s the happiness of the moment?
She sees Claire noticing them, sees her getting up and takes a hand of another woman. They are walking in their direction. Claire holds out a hand for her to take and even though she just pep-talked herself into not being shy anymore, she hesitates for a moment before she lays her hand in Claire’s.
The girl pulls her a couple of feet away from Dean, a little further into the room and Dean grabs at her purse so she wouldn’t have to hold it. The woman turns her around so she  faced Dean. He’s watching her, and somehow, that makes it even more exciting.
Y/N feels two sets of hands touching her. They are caressing her whole body. One of the hands slips under her dress, touches her where she’s already wet and she moans into the touch, throws her head back and rests it on someone’s shoulder. She doesn’t know who it is, doesn’t really care at that moment.
One of the women kneads her breasts, hands digging into her cleavage, fingers pinching at her raw nipple. One hand cups her chin, tilts her head around and she feels warm soft lips claiming her own. She opens her mouth, tongues sliding velvety smooth against each other.
She’s so lost in lust that she almost didn’t feel another set of hands, caressing and kneading her body. It was bigger than the other ones on her. She’s still kissing someone. Claire? The woman? She doesn’t know. Doesn’t care.
“Hey, she’s with me,” A rough deep voice interrupts her fall into ecstasy and she opens her eyes to see Dean looking down at her.
“I’m sorry,” The man said and backed away, taking Claire and the woman with him.
Her body still aches for the touch, aches for something they started but didn’t finish but she pouts and is about to let out a whine of disappointment when Dean picks her up, and throws her over his shoulder. He’s leaving the room with her, the grinding bodies are getting further and further away until the door closes.
Dean doesn’t say anything. One of his hands is on her thighs, while he punches in the code to go up to his office.
Once in there, he lets her fall on the couch along with her purse before he takes a seat himself and manhandles her onto his lap. She can feel his bulge straining against his dress pants. It feels so good underneath her hot and wet cunt.
“I’m not going go lie,” He whispers, his voice gravelly, more bass then anything, “I want you so fucking bad, and I need to know if you want it too.”
She nods. Because oh god yes, she’s so fucking turned on she can barely think straight.
“I need a verbal confirmation, Y/N,”
“Ye—”
His mouth crashes onto hers before she can push out the last syllable, tongue invading her mouth, mapping out the inside of it. The kiss is wet and smooth, rough and needy, his scruff rubs hard on her face. Her hands are on his shoulders, goes up around his neck, fingers digging into the short hair on the base of it, and she starts to grind onto him. Dean moans into her mouth, hot air that she swallows.
Dean’s hands span across her back, fingertips digging into her flesh, caressing her until he has both her ass cheeks in his palms, squeezing them and helping her grind on his hard bulge.
He parts the kiss with a bite on her bottom lips, breathing heavily, “Take your purse,”
Her hands dig around on the couch blindly and when her fingers clutch around it, Dean gets up, presses his mouth to her while he goes, and walks to the back of the office where there’s another door.
She doesn’t really know what happens, doesn’t hear the door to the elevator, doesn’t realize that they were riding up to his apartment, she was too lost in his intoxicating kisses, too lost in his hands spanned wide around her back, too lost in the taste of him on her tongue.
The next thing she knows, he lets her down on his bed, her purse flying about. Her phone spills out and she giggles while he grabs her shoes, pulling them off.
She’s feeling playful, turns on her stomach and tries to crawl away from him, but Dean’s hands grab around her hips, pulling her back towards him.
He chuckles while she giggles, his fingers on the seam of her dress and throws it over her ass. Her cheeks are on full display, the material of her panties that covers her crotch soaking wet. She hears him groan behind her.
Dean places kisses just below her ass, sinks his teeth into her flesh only to kiss it better and she keens to his touches, pushing herself back. He asked her before if she wanted this, and hell yes, she thinks that she never wanted anything more in her goddamn life.
Y/N arches her back, driving her face into the comfy sheets and Dean spanks down on her ass, the sting fierce, but she welcomes it.
“Do you like that? Like me spanking you?” The voice comes deep and raspy from behind and he leaves his hand on her cheeks, squeezing and jiggling them.
“Y-yes,” She manages to say, wants more of it somehow but can’t quite get it out.
“Jesus,” Dean chuckles, kisses and bites at her ass, before he spanks down on both cheeks at once, “I want you to tell me if I do something you don’t like okay?”
“Uh-huh,”
There’s another spank, its impact sending her forward but Dean’s quick to grab at her hips, pulling her back again.
“Uh-huh? Use your words, baby,”
Baby.
She likes the sound of it.
“Yes,” She wriggles with her ass, making him chuckle and spread kisses on her burning cheeks.
Dean hooks his fingers into the elastic of her panties, pulls them down to her knees.
“Fuck,” He mutters and she can hear fabric shuffing behind her, a sound of something dropping heavy onto the floor. He must have taken off his jacket, “Look at you,” Dean whispers, and he takes his time, his hands kneading her flesh, fingers digging deep into her skin, “How can I fuck someone else, huh? Have you seen yourself? Fucking perfect,”
His breath is hot against her wet cunt, his nose brushing between her ass crack and there it was, his warm, wet tongue lapping at her entrance. He holds her in place with both of his hands on her ass cheeks, spreading them apart to have better access.
She moans into the sheets, burying her face deeper while she drives her backside towards his face. Dean licks from her center to her rim, tongue toying around her puckered hole and fuck, she’s never felt anything like it before. Never knew that she could like it but here she is, moaning and wriggling her ass at him so she can get more of it.
Dean hums his approval, licking and slurping around every hole down there. It’s when he sinks one thick finger into her pussy that she almost loses it. He increases to two, and they feel better than her fingers ever could make her feel. The pad of his thumb rubs at her clit while he scissors his fingers inside of her, his mouth working up and down her rim.
Y/N feels his fingers twisting inside of her, hitting that spot that she sometimes has a hard time to find on her own, and there’s the sensation of her toes curling, her calves shoot up, almost hitting his chin and Dean has to hold them down.
“Fuck,” Dean groans out as he watches his fingers go in. He begins to lap at her rim again to make it more bearable for her, “You’re so tight, you’ve done this, right?”
She chuckles at that, “Yeah, just like, not in a long while. Oh fuck—” She moans, “Right there, please don’t stop, don’t stop, fuck—”
The orgasm crashes into her so hard, her legs are shaking, giving out underneath her own weight. She almost collapses onto the bed if it wasn’t for Dean’s hand that is still holding her up somehow. He still licks around her clit, the slurping sound obscene and loud in the room and it echoes off the walls.
After a while of excessive cleaning, he lets go of her with a chuckle and she turns around, sees his face glistening in the moonlight. Dean kneels over her, his breathing is ragged. “You ever tasted yourself?”
“No,” She shakes her head and at that, Dean brings his fingers to her lips, her hands holding his wrist as he sticks her tongue out. He twirls them around his soaked fingertips, tasting herself off his fingers while he kisses along her throat.
“Fucking delicious,” Dean growls into her neck and sucks in a patch of skin to let it out with an audible pop. He groans when she takes the two fingers deeper into her mouth. She doesn’t think it’s delicious but she does not taste as bad as she thought she would. He kisses along her cheeks, up to her eyebrows, “Could eat you out for days,”
Dean claims her mouth after, kisses her deep and sloppy, breathes into her mouth and it makes her more needy to feel him.
He seems to sense her desperation and pushes himself off the bed to hastily unbutton his dress shirt, unceremoniously drops his pants and takes his underwear down with them. She takes that time to rid herself from her dress, throws it towards Dean and he catches it before he drops them onto the pile of clothing already there.
She watches him, watches his hand jerking himself off. Dean really has a nice cock. She can’t quite take her eyes off it.
He notices, his grin laced with swagger, “Do you like what you see?”
God, how can he be so, ugh. Her face heats up but he doesn’t budge, just stands there and takes in the view of her, “Jesus, look at you, spread out, ready and wet for me. Seriously, how could I even think of fucking someone else when you’re all I can fucking see, huh?”
Dean’s tall and broad, the muscle of his arms moving as he works himself. It looks so fucking sexy and he doesn’t wait for her to answer. She wouldn’t know what to answer anyway, she’s blushing too hard. He looms over her, crowds her in with his body and she can feel his hard cock leaving trails of wet pre-cum across her thighs.
He chuckles before he kisses down her throat, trailing hot kisses along her chest, down to her breasts before sealing his mouth around her nipple and sucks at it while he tweaks her other nipple between his fingers,
“Shit,” She bites on her bottom lip, her hands fists in his hair while she arches her back, and Dean lets go of her nipple to suck at the other one. He alternates between both of them for a long time, torturing her the best way he can.
She whines, because her cunt throbs and he’s not touching that, “Dean, please,”
Feeling a huff of air between her tits, Dean looks up at her and chuckles, “You are a needy little thing, you know that?” Finally he gives in, fingers touching her where she needs him the most.
Yes, yes, she is. She knows, because she got so turned on from all of it. From the orgy, from him. It’s not fair!
Dean pushes himself up, kneels between her spread legs and takes his shaft into his hand to thread his cock through her slick, she moans and writhes at the contact, “Fuck, condoms. Yeah, just wai—”
“—It’s okay,” She says, knowing it’s probably stupid but she’s clean and she trusts that he is too, because Dean’s thorough. He tests every one in the club, she’s sure he tests himself too, “I have an IUD.”
That’s not a lie. She still has one from when her ex forced her to get one.
“You sure?” He asks. His breathing is ragged because he still rubs against her and his gaze is watching his cock, probably imagining how far in it would go.
“I am, it’s okay, Dean,” She is. She really is, because right now, she doesn’t want him to get up and go fetch a fucking condom. She’s too desperate to feel him. She’s so fucked. Nobody has ever made her think that way.
He’s still not sure. His face tilts towards the bathroom, where she thinks he keeps them, and then back to her.
“Dean, it’s reall— fuck,”
He slides in, breaching her entrance, stretching her with his cockhead and places his hand on the backside of her knees, pushing her legs up to spread her more.
“Fucking Christ—” Dean huffs out. He’s watching her as he slides himself in some more, looking for any discomfort or pain on her face. When he sees none except of pure bliss, he gets in deeper and trains his eyes back to where they are connected.
Y/N can’t help but push herself up on her elbows and watch his dick go in an inch, and out a half, as he works the whole of him inside. They groan in unison when he bottoms out and Dean has to breath it off while she takes a hand and places it on her lower belly. She pushes in, feels his dick hard inside of her.
“Jesus, don’t do that,” He mutters in a low voice, “It’ll be over sooner if you do.”
She has to chuckle at that. Dean retreats, pulling himself out far enough leaving only his tip inside. She sees his cock glistens with her slick. Dean goes right back in, picks up a steady pace.
“You feel so fucking good wrapped around my cock, baby. So fucking perfect,” His voice is shaking as he fucks into her harder and deeper.
His one hand goes up to cup her tit, spanks down on it before he pulls at her nipple, making her yelp up and arching her back, pushing herself down against his thrusts in the process. His other hand claws around her throat, not pressing down, he just leaves it there while his pace quickens, getting faster, fucking her harder.
Dean’s hand around her throat tightens and he squeezes down, cutting off her air supply. To her surprise, she doesn’t panic. Feeling more light headed than ever, she enjoys it. Her eyes cross as the oxygen gets thinner and then she feels it, feels her walls contracting around his cock, feels her legs trembling and she squirms, calling out his name that doesn’t even leave her lips because she has no voice left in her.
She’s sure she passed out for a hot minute and Dean curses above her when he lets go of her throat to let her catch air. She gasps, like a fish on land, trying to get air back into her lungs as she’s still coming down from her high.
“Baby you just came on my fucking dick,” Dean’s voice is hoarse and he squints his eyes at the tight squeeze. She’s still holding him tightly in there and he can barely move.
He lets himself fall forward, bracketing her in with both his elbows on either side of her head while he rains kisses all over her face. Dean sucks on her tongue, making her forget her own name and he fucks her deep and slow, grinding against her clit every time he bottoms out. It’s intense, it makes her crave more and she throws her arms around his back, blunt fingernails digging into his flesh. She’s sure that she’s marking him up, but he doesn’t complain, keeps fucking her deeper, keeps grinding harder.
There’s a sound coming from somewhere on the bed. It takes her a while to register.
Fuck, it’s her phone.
Y/N feels it vibrate on the sheets and Dean reaches over, taking it in his hand to look at the screen.
He leaves it there though and his hand comes back to stroke the hair back on her forehead. Dean leaves a kiss there, before he trails kisses down her nose, kisses her briefly on her lips before looking into her eyes. His hips still work inside of her and he’s holding on to him.
“It’s Jody Mills,” Dean whispers, kisses her in between, “Maybe you should pick up, huh?” He works his hips faster, fucks her rougher, “Tell her how her daughter kissed you,” Dean alternates between slamming into her and grinding slow. It makes her dizzy because it’s so good, “Tell her how her good girl touched my good girl,”
Good girl.
She can’t lie, hearing it does something to her and she clenches down on him.
Dean feels it and he chuckles, kisses her harder once more, “Tell her that her daughter played with your cunt, that she did it on her own will, didn’t she?”
Y/N wants to agree but she can’t because she’s clamping again. His pelvis rubs so good against her clit and his cock hits just the right spot when he grinds and carves a space for him on the inside of her.
“Dean, I’m—” She whines, and it almost physically hurts because she never came so many times in the span of an hour.
“—I know, baby, I know,” He hushes her, kisses her eyelids as she closes them, kisses her nose, her lips, “Come with me, I’m— fuck, I’m close. Can you be a good girl and come with me, huh?”
“Uh-huh,” She nods and she’s holding on to him tighter, scratching his back up more, and she doesn’t know if he likes that but she can’t bring herself to care.
Her legs lock themselves behind the small of his back and she pushes herself up against him as she begins to shake, “I’m— fuck—”
Dean feels it, feels the tight squeeze of her cunt around his cock and he buries his face in the crook of her neck, sucks and bite at the skin there and then she hears a muffled groan, feels his body trembling, feels his hips jerking, as he releases himself inside of her.
He collapses onto her and quickly tries to push himself up on his elbow again. He kisses her shoulder, her neck, kisses up her jaw and further up to her cheek, “Fuck,” He breathes and then he looms over her, their noses touch as he smiles, “You’re still holding me tight, I can’t get out.”
She honestly doesn’t even want him to get out of there, likes to stay like this, with him deep inside of her. Her pussy’s still pulsing, his dick twitches every now and then. But then Dean has to slip out because he’s arms are weak. She reluctantly lets him and whines at the loss. The squelching sound is loud and lewd in the otherwise quiet room.
He completely gets off the bed to pull at the sheets only to climb back in and cover both of them with it. Dean spreads his arms for her to climb in and she does, moves in and buries her face into the crook of his neck. He smells like he always does, with a hint of sweat and sex mixed into it and it’s not fair because it makes her light headed and it makes her want more, even though she doesn’t think that she can take more. It has been a while since she had sex. It has been never since she had that kind of good sex. The kind that leaves her wanting even more. The kind that gets her addicted to it.
Dean’s hand pets at her hair, tucking loose strands behind her ear. He kisses the crown of her head as they lie in silence. She didn’t know what to say. She’s back to being the shy girl and hates herself for it.
After a while she looks up at him, sees him looking down at her, a grin on his face, “Why didn’t we do it right there in the VIP room?” She asks.
It’s a legitimate question and she wonders why not. They were right there. She was already hot and needy. They didn’t have to lose more time and make their way up here.
He looks down to her, his double chin showing but of course it doesn’t even make him less attractive. He’s even more cute, which is completely not fair. He smiles and shrugs, and the answer comes off his tongue so easily, like he doesn’t even need to do any thinking at all, “Because I don’t share what’s mine.”

I love the purgatory prayer for the Emotions and acting choices. But at the same time, I'm really bothered by the implications that it was wrong and unreasonable of Dean to be upset about his mother's death and he should apologise for that. I mean, apologising for your behaviour is great, but that's his mom, and Cas did fuck up in this situation, Dean had every right to be pissed! Esp since it all really happened not so long ago.
Idk, that's probably my problem with the whole Beren's anger arc in s13-15: they repeatedly gave Dean very good reasons for anger (bc he's still a protagonist), but then turned around and acted like he's crazy for expressing or even feeling it. It just doesn't sit right with me. Also, it felt kind of redundant after the MoC plot, which was also about Dean's rage. And tbh, to me, MoC storyline handled this theme (for the most part) better.
Sorry for ranting in your ask box, you are my fave meta writer in this fandom, and it's always interesting to see your pov on different aspects of the show.
Thank you ^-^
I agree! It’s actually curious that you bring up the MoC arc because earlier I was thinking about it... That was different, because the “rage” was programmaticly trauma. In the Carver era Dean’s mirrors are characters like Claire, Amara, characters who lash out from a place of pain and betrayal. That was clear and intentional.
The narrative drastically shifted at a certain point from “the MoC draws from your inner darkness” (which was more in line with the “dark variation on fantasy” thing they played with back then) to “the MoC draws from the Darkness” but at the end of the day it doesn’t really change much, because Dean and Amara are the same. In Supernatural’s horror variation on the fantasy classic, there’s no clear lines drawn between who’s Frodo and who’s Gollum and who’s the Ring, because there’s no magical source of evil, but evil is trauma. (But Dean is definitely Frodo, who gets his return to the Shire at the end that he can never quite enjoy because everything’s changed - I’m pretty sure it was planned all along that Mary wouldn’t be The Perfect Mother, because she was supposed to be Frodo’s return home, things can never be the same after the journey. But I don’t think Mary was supposed to just get killed like that.)
The Jack arc feels different because Dean also lashes out from pain and trauma, but somehow the narrative is not compassionate to him. The narrative of the Carver is kind to Dean, it gives him the return home at the end.
Now, people have been making jokes and memes about Dean in the Jack arc - how he was basically the man resentful at the child for killing the wife in childbirth, how he was “baby trapped”, how he and Cas were respectively husband-coded and wife-coded... well, that’s not an incorrect assessment...? Dean was painted as an angry man, you know? Not as a villain, of course, because it was still acknowledged that his anger came from a place of pain and trauma, but in a way where he cannot understand his feelings and doesn’t really have much to write home about in the emotional intelligence department.
The Carver era painted Dean as a wronged woman in pain slash Frodo who thinks he’s Gollum or even the Ring itself, the last seasons painted Dean as an angry man who somewhat can’t recognize that anger comes from trauma. (I’ve always said that the tragedy of Dean is that Dean is aware. And the tragedy comes from the helplessness. That’s how I read him, at least.)
Obviously not all writers write Dean the same which results in a picture more complex than this, but this at least is the general gist of it, imo. Or, at least, this is one side of the issue.
The other side of the issue, as you point out, is that the narrative doesn’t seem to allow Dean his feelings. I don’t know if it’s a reaction to the Carver’s era tendency to write Sam as vaguely unsympathetic and Cas as chronically suffering from bad decision syndrome, but possibly - Sam is now the sympathetic one (at least in theory, because Dean always defies intentions...) and Cas is Definitely Taking The Right Decisions. So everything regarding Jack is The Right Decision, because Jack Is Good And Will Save The World, and Dean... Dean is chronically wrong and an ass because he doesn’t quite jump on the wagon. (Despite being cool with getting on the wagon on his own terms, based on his own assessments.)
Jack is repeatedly shown as naive and dangerously easy to manipulate for the wrong things, and hardly in control of his hyper-powerful powers, but if Dean expresses reservations then he’s chastized for it, despite having all the reasons to be terrified of what Jack can potentially do.
But first Sam projects himself on Jack (and when that happens there’s no escape from it, Dean is the asshole ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) and then Cas is Totally Right This Time, so Dean should not be a dick and definitely should not experience grief and trauma in ways we don’t like. Only Good(TM) trauma survivors allowed.

SPN 15x20 - rewrite script notes ‘Carry On’
SPN 15x20 - rewrite.
Saving Cas from the empty is the only thing left for Dean and Sam to do.
2735 words: script notes- Destiel, Fixit, Happy, All the gangs here to help saving Cas. Half Ficlet / half mad writings of a grieving Fan requiring happiness and true love and closure- gonna use this as the starting point for some writing practice and probs eventually write a fan / spec script.
Id start it with Dean on the road, fuming and stewing over his grief for Cas. Ignoring Sams calls. Maybe a moment where he hesitates near the trunk of the Impala when Sam comes out of the bunker to be like ‘Dude?! Stop ignoring me!’ And Dean guiltily hides what will later be revealed as Cas’ coat.
All the alternate world hunters are staying in the bunker and established as being back. They’re reorganising, gathering info figuring out what’s changed in this new world post dusting. Sam can’t keep his eyes off Eileen as she works. He keeps getting distracted and almost missing the table when trying to put down his coffee mug. Not wanting to miss a word she signs. She gives his wrist a gentle squeeze when she moves past him, signing that ‘She’s not going anywhere, Promise’.
The bunker is too crowded for Dean, too noisy, he gets busted sitting in Cas’ room, holding the mixtape between his hands.
Sam and he talk about feelings, well they talk around feelings at least. The ‘I love you’ confession will be saved for the very end for Cas’ ears only.
Our inciting incident of the episode starts off screen. Deans choking on his words about missing Cas, Sam amazed at how many words he’s finally coaxed out of his brother- and then from the other room there’s shouts of shock and alarm- there’s a dark smear growing in the air of the main room of the bunker. And for a brief moment a face struggles to push itself out of the muck-  Dean and Sam arrive in the room just as the goo shimmers like oil vapours in the air and disappears. Cas? Deans afraid to voice it aloud but Charlie beats him to it. Sams nodding. Freaked out. Everyone agrees it looked like Cas.
They have a smear of the Empty left behind to work with. And A room full of witnesses who all want to help.
Jack shows up saying ‘so sorry I can’t play favourites’ while clearly playing favourites and guiding them to the book that contains the magical solution they need (ala Cas’ telling Dean about the arch angel attached to the profit Chuck in season four, ‘so sad I can’t help WINK if only I could ‘continues to give gives blatant info haha)
For the first step of the spell, we’d need a psychic to establish a tether to the Cas in the empty, we’d have to go and check in on the Wayward Sisters to ask for Missouris’ granddaughters help. We’d see Kia and Claire together as a couple, and Sam would catch Dean looking at them trying to hide how happy they are in the face of Deans misery.
Patience needs something of Cas’ to create a tether, Sam freaks that they don’t have anything with them and Dean has to clear his throat twice to get the words out that he does.
He retrieves the trench coat from the trunk. (Or maybe his own jacket with the bloody handprint still on its shoulder-  Sam’s all ’ew dean you still haven’t washed this?!’)
The first part of the spells in place. Patience says something cryptic to Dean as she hands back the trenchcoat, his grip is perhaps a bit too tight to be read as anything but casual. Jodys attempt at getting Dean to open up is less subtle, everyone’s trying to get Dean to admit If he’s okay or hurting or something worse.
‘You’ve gotta talk about it eventually’, but Sam can see the explosion building in Dean, but then it’s an implosion as instead of getting mad Dean just shuts down, shoulders caving in,  and Dean just has to go
‘Pick you up later Sammy’ and he’s out the door.
We finally see the tears once he’s alone in the car
Driving, he almost hits the smear of black ooze absorbing the glow of the impalas headlights growing in the middle of the road, he skids and frames the scene with the headlights, jumping out of the car as Cas tries once again to pull himself from the empty, this time the oil parts slightly and Cas’ hands push through, Dean sprints forward, and almost has Cas’ hand tightly in his own before the oozey hole in the universe blinks back closed.
Jack will pop in briefly, commenting about how how well the first part of the spell worked with Patience’s help. He’d plant another hint about the next step of the spell, and Dean would sheepishly head back to pick up Sam to tell him the news.
Together the whole gang discuss the case over a family dinner, food everywhere, no more emotional pushing from anyone, Dean’s allowed to stay quiet and is offered additional serves as everyone brainstorms how to interpret / fulfil the next step of the spell to save Cas.
Sam quietly checks in with Dean, elbowing him as Jody and Donna and the girls talk at the other end of the table. Sam assures Dean that everyone didn’t mean to freak him out earlier and Dean cuts him off.
‘I think I needed the reminder that we’re in this together’ he admits.
Sam agrees, ‘You’re not the only one who wants Cas back Dean.’
With Charlie’s remote hacking help, we find the location of next relic we need / the next spell component. We see Stevie helping with the research, we see Bobby breaking a code and Garth adding some new piece of lore that’s vital to the puzzle.
We have a classic heist sequence with Dean and Sam doing what they do best, breaking into places to steal shit from museums. It’s dope, music sequences and everything ending with Dean almost tripping a lasor sensor before Sam pulls him back at the last moment. Dean thought he saw another hint of Black ooze and drawn to it like a moth to a flame.
Later on the side of the road and with the first hint of hope /excitement from Dean, we preform the next part of the spell.
Almost instantly, another black ooze rifts appears, Cas struggles to pull himself free, but this time Sam and Dean manage to grab his arms together, they pull with all their might, the ooze is retreating back from Cas’ shoulders, neck, and slowly his face, and we finally see the fight in his blue eyes, the desperate hope, struggling to get back to our world.
Dean and Cas make eye contact, Deans grip on his arm turns bone tight- but the ooze is reclaiming Cas’ throat, cutting off his attempt at Deans name. A deep voice rumbles from beyond the rift ’I said forever!’- and SNAP! The ooze rift slams back shut. And dean and Sam are left sprawling on the ground.
Deans hands close on handfuls of dirt and grass, and then Jack appears. Jolly and smiling.
‘That was very close! I almost thought you wouldn’t need the final spell component!’
‘A rare dagger and one other other thing is required to walk through the Empty unscathed.’ Jack hands the the dagger to Dean. He weighs the stone dagger in his hand.
‘Whats the other requirement?’
’Love willingly given’ Jack tells him and Dean gives a wobbly grin and just nods and opens his mouth to say something but Jack shakes his head, ‘no, I’m not the one who needs to hear it’.
Sam thanks Jack for his help making things right as Dean walks back to where the oozey tear appeared. He clears his throat, once twice, gripping the ancient dagger in his hands. He turns back to Sam and Jack who confer back and forth, Jack looks over and just nods back towards the afflicted space, a ‘go on you can do it’ but they both give Dean his space.
Dean flips the dagger about, changing the grip with finesse and gathers himself. He stares at the point in space that had so recently held Cas.
‘We’re not done yet’ Dean finally admits as he stabs the dagger into the air and slices through universe, the dagger vibrates in his hands, the rift trying to resist, but Dean leans into it, whispering
‘it’s my turn to save your, ass you ass’ and the dagger slices clean through the worlds.
Dean steps through the door he’s created, the void empty sans his own reflection beneath him, but the daggers glowing in his hand now, a beacon that grows hot and cold as he waves it before him. Dean follows the bacon of light, and meets Cas half way, the angel is struggling against the ooze at a snails pace, drowning in the thick liquid and Dean grabs his shoulder and heaves, using the dagger to hack at the muck, and then Cas is falling into him and this time Dean drags Cas through the darkness, a perfect reproduction of Cas herding Dean through the halls of the Bunker when Billie came after them, but now Dean’s the one to throw Cas to safety through the door before leaping through it just a footfall behind him.
And they land in a tangle of limbs in the grass on the side of the highway with Jack and Sam watching on.
‘Ow’ Cas says in his familiar deep rumble. Dean chokes back a half gasped laugh as he lifts himself of Cas’ chest, but then - movement from the corner of his eye. He spins, blade in hand.
An arm of ooze streaks out towards Cas, greedy and grasping but Dean cleaves it in two before stabbing the dagger into the ground at the base of the rift. The rift blinks out of existence and we’re left alone on the side of the road.
Cas lays on his back, blinking up at the night sky. ‘So It worked?’ Dean looks down at him, grabbing his hand and pulling him into a clumsy seated embrace, Dean buries his face in Cas’ shoulder.
‘Hello Dean’ he says warmly. Dean gasp laughs into Cas’ shirt collar.
’You can have it. You’ve always had it.’ He whispers the words into Cas’ neck who stiffens in surprise, looking down at Dean incredulously as Sam and Jack engulf them all in a full embrace. Any other words are stuck in Deans mouth.
’It’s been too long!’ / ’Welcome home!’ a sweet short lived reunion. They get up, Sam jumping on his phone to spread the good news as he walks back to the car, Jack explains the status quo. Giving Cas a wonderful speech about well deserved places in the world and how if you’re lucky you can carve out a family of your own and he thanks Cas for being a wonderful dad and promises that they still have to work to do and he of course he’ll be around.
But eventually he catches on to the energy in the night air, Dean hovering over Cas’ shoulder, Jack ‘Jacks’ and states an obvious ‘ohhhh this is one of those situations Sam told me to help facilitate, I’m going to * obvious wink* remove myself’  and he Bamfs out.
And Dean grabs Cas’ shoulder, half trying to brush off the black handprint he’s left there in dirt or ooze, half trying to gather his courage and Cas watches as Dean finally looks up and meets his eyes.
‘They’re hard words to say aloud.’ Dean admits, but Cas hears them anyway, and a surprised heart warming smile forms on Cas’ face, and maybe it’s a little bit wobbly.
‘Love is patient.’ Cas offers but Dean winces. He grips Cas’ shoulder tightly, but forces his grip to relax. His hands settling into something almost soft at Cas’ sides, bracketing his elbows. An almost embrace as Dean leans closer.
‘No fuck that. You deserve’ - he scrunches up his nose at the word, ‘You’re… wonderful. You have to know you’re wonderful-  I, goddamnit I’m not good with any of this. You shouldn’t have to be so patient.’ Cas is watching him with a warm smile, basking in the words, in the words he can now see between them, and Deans hands are gently drifting up and down Cas’ arms. They finally settle on his waist. Cas would never tell Dean he could feel their shaking.
‘I love you as you are Dean Winchester’ Cas tells him solemnly.
And Dean kisses him. A brief fierce thing, before he buries his face once more into Cas’ neck, engulfing him in a soul squeezing hug.
We see Deans lips move to form the words we so want to hear, but the words themselves are for Cas’ ears alone as we see Sam watching them from the Impala.
His expression is pained, Half ‘gross that’s my brother making out with an angel’, half ‘my fucking god FINALLY’.
His phone going off in his hands, Eileen and others excited about the news of Cas’ return, and Sam hesitates for a moment before raising the phone. Just as Sam predicted, Dean and Cas kiss once more, the shadows soft about them in the half light on this stretch of remote road. Sam takes a photo and sends it to Eileen…  A whole new flurry of texts flood his screen: OMFG WHAT FINALLY?! YOU OWE ME $$$$ and the radios bubbling softly in the interior of the Impala. The first few notes of ‘Carry on my wayward son’.
Dean knocks on the drivers door, Sam jumps and hides his phone guilty.
‘Outta my seat Bitch’ Dean opens the door for him, Sam goes around to get into the passenger seat, only to see Cas already sitting in it, still glowing but trying to play it cool. Cas’ eyes slide to the backseat and Sam humfs before getting in.
‘You’re both jerks.’
Cas and Dean share a look. Sam groans and slumps down in the backseat. But his happiness about the situation is clear.
The music kicks in, the night sky is endless, and the family are together on the backroads of America, ready to take on whatever comes next.
THE END
Maybe a quick shot post credits scene of Gabriel and Crowley and Balthazar exchanging money with all the other angels and demons now awake and creating chaos in the empty.

the best day with you
Part of this verse!
Dean taps Claire on the shoulder. “You got plans for this weekend?”
Claire twists on their couch to see him and sets aside her laptop. With narrowed eyes full of suspicion, she grabs the remote and mutes Dr. Sexy. “Why?”
“Because.”
“Because why?”
Dean rolls his eyes. This is why he became a teacher. To help teenagers. Not to strangle them for sassing him to his face. Sure, Claire might be a sophomore in college now, and she’s not really a teenager anymore, but Dean’s never going to see her as anything but an angsty junior in high school. Especially if she keeps up the this attitude. Dean says, as evenly as he can, “Because I want to do something with you.”
Claire grimaces. “Really? Don’t you have other boring old man friends to do things with? Like, for instance, your boyfriend?”
“No,” Dean says. “Cas is going to visit Gabriel in LA this week.”
“And you chose to stay behind with me instead?” Claire says, her eyebrows rising to her hairline.
“Yes.”
“Are you dying?”
“What?” Dean gapes. “No!”
Claire squints at him. “Are you hoping I can score drugs for you?”
Dean rolls his eyes. “I can get my own drugs, thanks. It’s one of the perks of being a real live adult.”
“Do you need money?”
“If I did,” Dean starts incredulously, “why would I ask a broke college student?”
“I don’t know,” Claire says with a shrug. “Dementia? That kicks in about now for you, right?”
Dean’s mouth falls open. “I’m barely thirty-four!”
Claire shrugs. “Alzheimers?”
“That’s a kind of dementia,” Dean tells her flatly. He runs a hand down his face. “Look, are you free or not, kid?”
Dean is pretty sure she doesn’t have plans, judging by the way she’s religiously camped out on their couch for the past two weeks straight. She's abandoned her spot only to go to the bathroom, eat meals, and, on one memorable occasion, visit her parents for Sunday dinner. The living room her space now - which is fine with him, Dean’s been doing his summer school grading at the kitchen table. Along with her computer, Claire’s got the coding handbook Charlie Frankenstien-ed for her out of a bunch of different documents, probably all downloaded and printed illegally. On the television, she cycles through daytime soaps and CW evening dramas.
Claire grins. “On Saturday or something? Yeah.”
He rolls his eyes. “Was that so hard?”
“No, but it was fun.”
“Anyone ever tell you you’re a handful?” Dean says as he turns to head back into the kitchen. Lunch wasn’t going to make itself, and Cas was due back any minute from his errands.
“Just my parents, every day from age thirteen to eighteen,” Claire says casually as she reaches for the remote to resume Dr. Sexy.
Dean freezes. “Hey,” he starts, not really sure where he’s going with this.
“What?” Claire snaps as if annoyed, but her face is guarded.
“Your parents were asshats, you know that?” Dean says. “They shouldn’t have done that to you.”
“Yeah, well, you know what they say about family,” Claire mutters as she turns up Dr. Sexy.
In the middle of her junior year of high school, Claire moved in with Cas for about six months.
Early in the year, she had an explosive argument with her parents about transferring from their preferred private school to Edlund High. She also came out to them.
Dean has the sneaking suspicion Claire doesn’t think she had it that bad. Her parents didn’t hit her. They didn’t kick her out. They didn’t even stop giving her her allowance.  But they didn’t talk to her for days on end. They ignored her until she needed something from them, or the other way around. By Christmas, Claire had had enough. She left.
Back then, Dean told Claire her parents were in the wrong as many times as she would let him - which wasn’t many.
Cas took the lead with her, instead. She was his family. He found her a therapist and encouraged her to make friends at Edlund. Dean didn’t really feel like it was his place. She was Cas’s niece, and Dean was the guy who stayed over a couple times a week when she was crashing there too. And then he became her teacher when the transfer to Edlund became official. Still, she wouldn’t consider him family.
“My uncle always said, ‘family don’t end in blood,’” Dean tells her seriously.
Claire slumps back on the couch. “Right,” she says dully.
Dean takes a step back, rubbing his neck as he swallows down his next few words. He’s not about to give a heartfelt lecture on family and healthy boundaries to someone who’s going to grumble and groan through it. He jerks his head towards the kitchen. “I’ll get started on-”
Claire interrupts, “But that’s not grammatically correct. Aren’t you an English teacher? Who gave you a license to teach?”
Dean snorts. “Just think about it, will you?”
“Uh huh,” Claire waves him off. “If you’re going to the kitchen, can you make me a sandwich?”
Dean rolls his eyes. “Yes, Your Majesty. Cas finished off the strawberry jelly while he was grading essays last night, so you’re gonna have to settle for grape.”
Claire makes a face but nods. Dean’s almost at the kitchen door when she asks, “Your uncle, was he really your uncle?”
Dean shakes his head. “Not by blood. He was a good friend of my dad’s. But he was as good as family - better than, sometimes.” He swallows. Bobby’s been gone two years now. Dean had thought the grief when his dad passed was bad, but it was a whole other beast with Bobby.
Claire squints at him, looking so much like Cas Dean can’t help the warm feeling in his chest. “This is your show, right?” she asks out of the blue, gesturing to the television.
Dean blinks. “Yeah?”
And that’s how Cas finds them ten minutes later, eating PB&Js on the couch, watching Dr. Sexy - with Claire skewering every characterization and costume choice, and Dean defending Dr. Sexy’s cowboy boots with his life.
* * *
“Minigolf, really?” Claire asks as they pull into the parking lot on a bright Saturday afternoon. The early-summer temperatures are already high enough to make Dean sweat in the Impala, and Claire’s shorts could double as bikini bottoms, they’re so small.
She adds, “You realize I have a fake ID and we could probably go to a bar or something.”
“One,” Dean says as he slams the car door shut, “minigolf is a classic American pastime. Much better for your liver than drinking. And B, don’t ever tell Cas about that fake.”
Claire clambers out of the car. “I’m not an idiot.”
“Just making sure,” Dean says airily as he starts walking. He holds out his hand as she jobs to catch up to him. “Lemme see it.”
“Why?” she asks suspiciously as she digs for her wallet in her purse and fishes the ID out.
“Nice job,” Dean says as he holds it up to the sunlight shining overhead. “Ash?”
Claire stops short, surprised. “What?”
“Did Ash do this one?” Dean asks. “Come on,” he tells her as he nudges her shoulder to keep her moving out of the middle of the parking lot. “Nobody else does ‘em this good.”
“How do you know that?” Claire demands.
Dean laughs. “I told you I can get my own drugs.”
“Ash deals too?” Claire asks, looking hopeful.
Dean leans over to ruffle her hair. “His dope is a little out of your price range, squirt.”
“Hey!” Claire squawks as she tries to smooth everything back into place. “And nobody calls it ‘dope’ any more, you doof.”
Dean grins. “Yeah, I know.”
They enter the main building and get in line to rent the putters. It smells strongly of sunblock and worn down parental patience. A few parents wait ahead of them, all older than Dean with kids younger than Claire. A group of high schoolers are inspecting a row of putters on display on the far wall. Through the windows to the back, Dean can see a splendid display of mostly-intact astroturf and course obstacles with sun-faded paint.
The guy behind the counter is wearing an obnoxiously bright shirt and smile. “Hiya,” he says cheerily as they step up to the counter, “I’m Garth, welcome!”
“Two adults please,” Claire says quickly, like she knows Dean was going to ask for a kid’s ticket to mess with her.
“You got it,” Garth says as he bends down to grab two putters. “The bathrooms are by Hole 7, and if you want to grab lunch across the way at Fenris’s Diner, show them your receipt and you’ll get 15% off.”
Dean steps forward with his wallet. “Do you know if they have pie?”
Garth smiles wider, showing even more teeth, which Dean didn’t think was possible. “You bet! The best darn cherry pie I’ve ever tasted.”
“Awesome,” he says. “Thanks, man.”
“Thank you!” Garth says as he rings them up. “And good luck on the course!”
* * *
Dean is uncomfortably sweaty by Hole 2, and Claire piles her hair on top of her head in a messy bun to cool off her neck halfway through Hole 4.
“Swing batter, batter, swing!” Dean shouts from right behind her as she hits the ball at Hole 6.
Claire glares at him as her ball knocks against the windmill blade and skips off to the side. “That’s for baseball, idiot.”
“But you still missed,” Dean points out as he sidles up to tee. “So does it really matter? Hey!” She kicks him in the ankle as he strikes at the ball. “You cheater,” he gasps dramatically.
“So what?” Claire asks, putter swinging ominously at her side, “You gonna tell on me?”
Dean frowns. “No, but I won't buy you any pie when this is all over.” He keeps his eyes peeled for an opportunity to mess with her as she takes another stab at the windmill.
“Fine with me. I like cake better.”
Dean raises his head to gape at her. “Seriously?”
Claire throws him a funny look. “Does it matter?”
Dean’s mouth works furiously. “You ate the last slice of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving two years ago.”
Claire’s eyebrows climb to her hairline as she leans against the windmill and watches him take another stab at it. “You remember that?”
Dean hardly watches where his ball goes. “Of course I do.”
Jimmy and Amelia had elected to have Thanksgiving at Cas’s mother’s place. Cas, whose frosty relationship with his mother wasn’t helped by her dismissive attitude towards Claire, hosted a separate Thanksgiving at the (then) new house he shared with Dean. Sam and Jess flew in from California, and Claire was, of course, invited too. They were having a fucking blast, until Claire stole the last slice of pie right out from under Dean’s nose.
Claire snickers under her breath. “You’re so weird.”
Dean glares. “I called dibs.”
“I seriously have no idea what you’re talking about, McMurphy,” Claire says, the liar. She crouches to get a better look at the windmill.
Dean tries to suppress his smile. “Was that a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest reference?”
Claire rolls her eyes. “I paid attention in your class, you know. Even if you gave me an A-minus.”
Dean grins. “But you got a 5 on the AP Exam.”
Claire does a little jig as her ball falls into the hole.
* * *
“What the fuck?” Dean howls as his ball stops just short of Hole 9. Parents chaperoning a group of five kids at Hole 10 glare daggers at him.
Claire laughs uproariously. “Sucks to suck, old man.”
“Hey!” Dean glowers as she sinks a hole in one.
“What’s that?” Claire holds her putter up in victory. “Did you see that? Did that go in the hole? I wasn’t watching. Did the ball go in the hole?”
“Shut up, kid,” Dean grumbles as Claire smirks. “It wasn’t funny the first time.” He concentrates on his next shot. God help him if he fucks up with his ball barely half a foot from the hole.
One of the toddlers at Hole 10 lets out an ear-splitting shriek, and Dean’s ball skips off in the direction of Hole 13.
Claire doubles over laughing.
“Yeah, yeah,” Dean grumbles as he sidesteps her to go fetch it, “Like you would’ve done any better.”
“I just did. Or did you miss my hole in one?” Claire asks from right behind him.
“I’m hungry,” Dean declares.
“Okay…?” Claire squints at him.
Dean nods to a hotdog stand by Hole 14. “Whaddya say to a dog?”
“Mystery meat at a roadside attraction that hasn’t been renovated since ‘97? Sign me up,” Claire says sarcastically.
Dean claps her on the back, just a shade too hard. “That’s the spirit.”
She stumbles but doesn't fall - exactly Dean’s plan - and glares at him. “If I get E. coli, it’s your fault.”
Once hotdogs are in hand, they sit and eat on a worn bench that’s more chipped paint than bench, facing a dinky little fountain. A few pennies glint dully from at bottom, almost obscured by the bright midday sunlight reflecting off the surface of the water.
“So,” Claire says after she takes her first bite. “You wanna tell me what this is all about?”
“What?”
“This whole distant dad trying to reconnect with his kid routine,” Claire says.
“I - I’m not your dad,” Dean stutters, face heating.
“Duh. Dad was more of Church retreat guy.” She leans back on the bench, stretching out her legs, and tilts her face up to catch more sun. “I would’ve had a better time if there was no singing and 100% more hitting things.”
Dean asks haltingly, “So you don’t think this is weird?”
“What hanging out with you?” Claire asks, her smile guileless. “I heard elder enrichment is important to prevent cognitive decline, so I’m just doing my duty.” She laughs at his disappointed frown. “Relax. This has been… great.”
“Really?”
Claire finishes off her hotdog and balls up the aluminum foil wrapper. “Yeah. Don’t let it go to your head.”
Dean gets up to put her trash and his in the garbage and manages to stow his broad smile before he gets back.
* * *
“Hole in one!” Dean crows at Hole 15.
“Do you want a gold star?” Claire snarks as she tees up.
“Shut up.”
Claire swings, and they both watch as her ball deftly navigates around the bumps and turns to sink neatly into the hole.
Dean’s smile falls off his face as Claire jumps around in victory. “Lucky shot,” he tells her as they troop to Hole 16.
“Uh huh,” Claire says. “And that makes, what seven lucky shots for me? And how many holes in one have you had?”
At the next hole, they have to wait for the large family ahead of them to finish up.
“Oh my god,” Claire mutters as one of the parents demonstrates how to properly swing the putter for the youngest child, “it’s minigolf. Not the Olympics.”
“I know, right?” Dean says in an undertone. “Who cares how she hits the ball? If she wants to bowl it down the course, let her.”
“Seriously, who gives a fuck?”
“I bet she’s gonna scream before they’re done with the lesson.”
“What?”
“Water works in 5… 4… 3…”
They wait with bated breath as, sure enough, the child sits down in the middle of the course and wails. She refuses to even touch the putter.
“How did you know that was gonna happen?” Claire asks as the family moves on. She eyes him critically. “High schoolers aren’t the tantrum type.”
“Shows what you know,” Dean snorts. No matter the point of spending today with Claire, he wasn’t about to tell her how he became an expert in toddler care. Christ, he can still remember the sticky feeling of Sammy’s vomit all over his front when he cried so hard he puked. Dean’s crime? Telling Sammy his favorite blanket needed to be washed. Dean hadn’t even taken it away yet.
Dean tells Claire instead, “I’ve seen more meltdowns over bad essay grades than I’d like. And it’s not like I can say, well, you should have read the damn book, Ava.”
“You wouldn’t say something like that,” Claire says as she bends down to set up her ball.
“Of course not,” Dean rolls his eyes, “that makes it worse.”
Claire straightens. “No, I’m saying, you would probably ask her why she didn’t have the time to read the book; if she’s tried the audiobook instead; if you should talk to Mr. Lafitte for her since she spent too long on Algebra and didn’t get to your homework.” She shrugs, meeting his eyes briefly. “You would do something like that.”
Dean blinks because she’s got him exactly right. He’s a firm believer that there’s no such thing as a lazy student. There are unmotivated students; there are students with undiagnosed ADHD or dyslexia; and there are anxious and/or depressed students. Hell, there are students with side-jobs, bills to pay, and little brothers to look after.
“Yeah,” he agrees, discomfited. Claire was his student for one year, but her presence in class was kind of eclipsed by her rocky home life. In senior year, she was back with her parents, but she also caught up regularly with Cas. In class, she faded into the background - Kaia’s blonde shadow. Cas’s stories provided Dean with more insight than any discussion on The Plot Against America ever did.
“All the seniors loved you,” Claire says. “Max Banes would’ve slept with you if he could.”
Dean hits his ball right into the mini sand pit. “What?”
Claire smirks. “You didn’t know?”
“No!”
“Uncle Cas was right, you are oblivious,” Claire says as she whacks her ball straight into the hole.
“Hey,” Dean says, but the protest is weak. “Cas wasn’t much better.”
Claire grins. “No one’s arguing that.” She waits until Dean’s mid-swing to say, “Max would’ve slept with Uncle Cas too - which, gross.”
“Dammit, Claire!”
* * *
“Okay,” Claire says as they walk away from Hole 18. “I’m gonna need to sit in AC for at least forty-five minutes.”
They’ve been out in the sun for nearly two hours now. Dean pulls his damp shirt away from his stomach with a grimace. “You down for pie?”
“Sure,” Claire says gratefully as they leave minigolf behind them.
In the diner, the air conditioning hits them like a bucket of cold water to the face. Claire throws herself into the first both they see as Dean troops off to relieve himself in the bathroom. He checks his phone - one grumpy text from Cas about Gabriel’s inappropriate choice of swimwear for a hotel pool - and exits with a smile on his face.
Back at the booth, Claire is twirling a lock of blonde hair around her finger, smiling coyly up at the waitress from lowered lashes. But Claire's inviting expression flips off like a switch as Dean drops down into the opposite seat.
The waitress’ own sunny smile takes on a distinctly plastic sheen at his arrival. “Hello!” she chirps as Dean picks up the menu. “Is there anything I can get you besides water?”
“Can I get a coke?” Dean asks the waitress - Maggie, according to her nametag. She’s tall, probably taller than Claire, and dark-haired. She seems around Claire's own age, so Dean would bet she’s only working here as a summer job.
Claire is still glaring daggers at him, so Dean asks, partly to be a dick, “And what’re you getting, Claire?”
“Water,” she says through gritted teeth.
“A coke and a water, please,” Dean says cheerfully to Maggie.
She bobs a nod and casts a lingering look at Claire. “I’ll be right back to take your order.”
Claire kicks him under the table as she disappears into the kitchen. “You couldn’t have waited another five minutes?” she hisses “I was just about to get her number.”
Dean grins. “My bad.”
“Now she thinks I’m here with my dad or something.” Claire crosses her arms across her chest.
Dean rolls his eyes. “You call me an old man, but I’m, what, twelve years older than you? We’re more likely to be on a date.”
Claire’s flat-out horrified face is enough to make Dean’s week. He’s still laughing as Maggie makes a return, one water and one Coca Cola in tow.
“So what can I get you both?” Maggie asks as she reaches for her pad and pen.
“One slice of cherry pie, thanks,” Dean says brightly.
“Nothing for me,” Claire mumbles.
Maggie looks from Claire to Dean and back again. “One cherry pie,” she confirms slowly. “Should I bring out two forks?”
Over Dean’s fresh bout of laughter, Claire says loudly, “We’re not together!”
Maggie blinks a few times, and Dean can’t tell if she’s more shocked by his reaction or Claire’s. “Okay.”
As she leaves, Claire buries her head in her hands. Her voice is muffled by her hands and hair, but Dean can make out, “This is all your fault.”
“How?” Dean asks as he sucks on his straw. “It’s not my fault if you’ve got no game, kid.”
Claire slumps onto the table. “I used to.”
“Stalking doesn't count as ‘game’ or else Cas and me would have gotten together way before we did,” Dean says sagely.
Still face-down on the table, Claire flips him the bird.
“Have you spoken to Kaia lately?”
Claire doesn’t move for a long moment. When she finally raises her head, her expression is pinched. “Not since Spring Break last year. She was doing good, I guess.”
Awkwardly, Dean says, “It’s okay if you’re still hung up on her.”
Claire waves his assurances away. “It’s been a whole fucking year."
Dean sighs. “These things can take time. You were with her while a lot was going on in your life, and she was there for you through all of it. Just ’cause you're young doesn’t mean it meant less. But if you want to move on, sometimes you don’t have to wait until you’re 100% ready.”
“Thanks, Senpai.”
Maggie approaches carrying a large slice of cherry pie.
“Here you go,” Maggie says as she sets the plate down. “Anything else I can get you?”
“Nothing for me,” Dean butts in before Claire can get a word in edgewise, “But Claire, here, would like your number.”
Maggie goes bright red.
“Dean,” Claire hisses, completely mortified. “What the fuck?” She turns to Maggie. “Forget what he said. He’s a moron who doesn't know what he’s talking about.”
Maggie glances to Dean before settling back on Claire. “So… you don’t want it?”
Claire splutters, “I - no - yes, but not if-” She takes a breath, clearly trying to compose herself. “Yes, I would like your number. But not because he said so.”
“You don’t have to decide now.” Dean fishes out his wallet and takes out a five. “It won’t affect your tip,” he says with a wink as he shoves the bill under the napkin dispenser.
Maggie bites her lip. “I’ll think about it.”
Once Maggie’s left, Claire leans over the table and punches Dean, hard, in the arm. “Oh my god, are you actually braindead?”
“Hey, watch the pie!” Dean yanks his plate closer, out of Claire’s line of fire.
“What on earth possessed you to do that?” Claire demands.
Dean eyes his pie, planning his perfect plan of attack. “You needed a push in the right direction.”
Claire’s eyes flash. “I don’t need your help.”
“Tough luck, because you got it anyway,” Dean says with a shrug as portions off his first bite. “You’re only here for the summer. You don’t have the time to pine from across the softball field for a whole season.”
Claire frowns, saying warily, “I know Maggie isn’t Kaia.”
Dean points his fork, dripping with pie filling at her face. “So you gotta try a new strategy.”
“How?”
“Well, get yourself a capable wingman, for starters,” Dean says around his next bite of pie.
“Who? You?” Claire asks incredulously.
“Probably not,” Dean says, shuddering at the thought. He’d intervened with Maggie because was fucking funny as hell to see Claire get Cas-levels of awkward, but scoping out any more romantic prospects for Claire makes him feel sleazy. “I’m more of a pinch hitter.”
“What?”
“You really didn’t pay attention to a single softball game, did you?” Dean says, almost impressed.
Claire glares.
“They’re the guys called in last minute to fill in for a batter,” Dean says. He shovels the last bit of pie into his mouth, saying, “Did you keep in touch with Krissy?”
Claire shakes her head. “They were all Kaia’s friends first, so…”
“She got them in the divorce?” Dean says sympathetically.
Claire nods, her expression darkening.
“I know she’s back home for the summer too, taking care of her dad,” Dean says. “I bet she could use someone to hang with - if you ever get bored coding from our couch. Data entry for Charlie can’t be that exciting. Don’t tell her I said that.”
Claire rolls her eyes. “You don’t need to set up playdates for me, Dean.”
Dean shrugs. “Suit yourself. But none of Krissy’s other friends are back home - Josephine’s abroad, and the rest of ‘em are staying in their college towns.”
“I’ll think about it.”
Dean nods. That’s probably as good as he’ll ever get with Claire - she’s not the type to gratefully accept help. She’s more likely to complain to his face while going behind his back and doing it anyway. Which, fine, if it gets Claire out of their apartment and out of her funk.
On their way out, Maggie leaves her number on their receipt.
* * *
Claire slams the Impala door shut and relaxes in the passenger seat. “Well that was fun,” she says sarcastically as Dean twists around to pull out of the parking lot without mowing down an unfortunate 1999 Toyota Camry. “Let’s do that again soon.”
“Really?” Dean asks. At her blank stare, he adds, “I never know with you. Did you really have a good time?”
She fiddles with her seatbelt, biting her lip. “I won’t say this again, so cherish this moment: today was not the worst day I’ve ever had.” She huffs out a long breath. “It was almost fun, if you forget that shit in the diner.”
Dean laughs. “I’ll take it, I guess.” He taps his fingers against the wheel as he waits for an opening in traffic to merge onto the highway. “I’m glad.”
“Me too,” Claire mutters, so low he can barely hear her.
Dean lets the noise of the road take over for a few minutes: the reassuring rattling of the toy soldiers in the back air vent; his baby’s engine purring like a dream; the low ambient hum of her tires carrying them across miles of pavement.
Once he’s as calm as he’s gonna get, he says, “I have a question for you.”
Claire shoots him a look. “It’s not like I’m going anywhere.”
Dean shouldn’t have bothered asking. She really is incapable of being anything other than a teenager.
“I’m thinking of asking Cas to marry me,” Dean says quickly. As Claire absorbs his words, his heart kicks up to double-time, hammering away in his chest. “Would you be okay with that?”
“Why are you asking me?” Her eyebrows are drawn together in that same furrow that Cas always has whenever a student stumps him with a question.
“Because you’re his family.” He’s honestly surprised he has to say this part out loud.
“Shouldn’t you be asking Grandmother instead?” Claire asks.
Dean shakes his head. “Cas doesn’t care about her opinion - or Jimmy’s.”
Claire takes another long moment to think that over. “So… are you, what, asking my permission?”
“Yep.”
“To marry my uncle.”
Dean shoots her a look. “I really don’t think the concept is that hard to understand.” Claire’s a smart kid. She’s probably drawing it out on purpose.
“Yeah, but -” Claire breaks off, “It’s weird, though.”
Dean rolls his eyes. “You literally called me a weird old man yesterday.”
“But… not this weird.”
“It’s a yes or no question, Claire,” Dean reminds her testily.
Claire waves him off. “I mean, yes, obviously, but what the hell?” Her eyes narrow, accusatory. “Is this why you made me do this weird bonding thing with you today?”
“I -” Dean stutters. “I didn’t make you-”
“It is!” Claire crows. “Were you thinking about it for all 18 holes?”
“No,” Dean says shortly.
“I don’t believe you.” Claire grins. “Were you nervous?”
“No.”
“Yeah, I’m calling BS again. You gotta work on that poker face.” She sits back in her seat, her smugness practically radiating off her in waves.
Dean has the strangest urge to hug her.
Claire lets her hair fall over her face as she picks at her nails. “Just so you know,” she starts in an undertone, “I know it was you who convinced Uncle Cas to take me in. Back in high school.”
“Cas wanted to be there for you,” Dean says quickly, “He just didn’t know how. Honestly,” he says with a laugh, “Cas was scared he’d piss you off more, and then where would you go?”
“Really?” Claire asks, surprised.
Dean nods. “The guy is a great teacher, but he’s not great with kids if there isn’t a desk between them, you know? He's been working on it, though. Having you around taught him a lot.”
“That makes sense,” Claire says, almost to herself. “Anyway, I’ve only really known Uncle Cas while you were together. It’d be more weird if you didn’t get married.”
Dean doesn’t bother turning on the turn signal as he pulls over to the side of the road.
“What the-?” Claire starts, twisting in her seat to look out the window. “Why’d you - oof.”
Dean wraps his arms around her, squeezing tightly.
“Ugh,” she groans, “You smell.” But she hugs him back anyway.

A Rift Between
A Brief(-ish) History of Dean, Cas, & Rifts
Let’s talk about rifts for a moment. And when I say rifts, I don’t mean their personal disagreements -- if I were to be discussing that, this post would be less of a brief history and more of a thesis paper.
No, I’m talking about rift rifts. As in, actual, literal tears in the spacetime continuum. They are littered across the whole run of this show, and we’ve recently had two whole seasons devoted to them. So, the sudden reappearance of rift-adjacent plotlines carries with it a weighty load of textual relevance.
Dean and Castiel’s relationship arc, a fan favorite, began when Leviathans, the notorious fan-unfavorite, came into the picture.
No, Maeve! Dean and Castiel’s relationship arc began in season 4, not 7! Cas was barely even in season 7!
Well, let me explain. Season 7, the age of Sera Gamble, was a total show reset. Was it uncomfortable? Yes. Did we all hate it? Yes. But like with muscle, you’ve got to tear through the old before you can develop something new, and Season 7 did this job quite effectively. An identity crisis at that scale means either a massive change of pace or a creative death, and as the show is still on, number one it is.
So, while we can most reliably chart the beginning of an intentional, substantive romantic undercurrent to Season 8, it is the waiting that allowed it to come to fruition-- Season 7 was a void, an unsustainable period of creative drought, a long cold winter in which seeds fell and laid dormant. And like the winter, it was necessary for rebirth.
This brings me to the first DeanCas rift:
~~
The Purgatory Spell
Tumblr media
Episode: 7x01
This tear in spacetime was the culmination of Castiel’s Season 6 character arc. It was the final, greatest betrayal, the irredeemable course of action which struck his relationship with the Winchesters a fatal blow-- and though his last act was to attempt to right his wrongs, the emergence of this rift meant estrangement and death for the relationship (and for Castiel.)
This incident is established as far more significant for Dean than it is for Sam, so I won’t spend much time justifying my classification of this rift as primarily DeanCas. It’s made pretty damn clear through Dean’s behavior throughout Season 7.
Castiel’s departure catalyzed the emergence of Leviathans. As the lore promised, they brought death and destruction to the whole ecosystem, purging the show and readying it for reincarnation; but I’ve already made this point.
As Destiel 1.0 dies, Destiel 2.0 is born.
~~~
The Purgatory Portal
Tumblr media
Episode: 8x07
Let us journey back to "A Little Slice of Kevin"-- the gayest thing to happen to Supernatural up to that point. Suddenly, Dean and Cas’s ambiguity is no longer a joke. It’s no longer flippantly referenced, but Built Into The Narrative In A Noticeable Way. After Season 7, Season 8 shocked the system, earning Purgatory celebrity status as the Destiel fandom exploded back to life.
But, more important things. The events surrounding this portal not only codified romantic subtext, but reshaped their relationship by putting it in grave peril. Lovers trapped in separate worlds. There’s only like ten thousand examples of this in other fictional, romantic(-ally coded) relationships. Sigh.
As Destiel 2.0 dies, Destiel 3.0 is born.
~~~
Seasons 9, 10, and 11 are filled with near misses. Divisions between worlds/fates test and change their bond -- Heaven and Hell exert tremendous force on both, and the gates of Heaven and the Darkness’s breach of barriers flirt pretty openly with the rift theme -- but there isn’t anything that fits the profile cut and dry, so let us leap to Season 12. Five long years of glacial shifts, five long years of a slow, steady amping up of queer subtext. An argument can be made that it had graduated from subtext in some places, but both fandom and GA were frog-boiled enough in their interpretations for this argument to be an aside.
Destiel 3.0 reaches a transitional stage, and becomes Destiel 3.0+.
Now, It’s season 12. And like goddamned CLOCKWORK, six years after Season 6, another unstable tear in spacetime appears, and terminates Castiel’s character arc.
Rift? Check. Cas dead? Check. We’ve seen this pattern. Time for shit to CHANGE. And boy, did it.
~~~
The Rift
Tumblr media
Episode: 12x23
Oh, boy. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Castiel’s death in the Season 12 finale was a magnum opus of SPN’s romantically coded imagery. I could elaborate, but if you’ve read this far into this post you likely already know what I’m talking about. My point is, a hall of mirrors is the chosen space in which Destiel 3.0+ is killed.
The relationship death lasts only a short while; their estrangement in separate realms is a five episode-long period of detachment and review. Our characters, as well as the viewers, stride through a hall of mirrors. In solitude, this DeanCas winter becomes a chance to reflect, because there is no better way to get a feel for the importance of something than to eliminate it. The crucial elements of Dean and Cas’s relationship, what they mean to each other, becomes clearer than ever before because, look! This is Dean without Cas! This is the show without Cas! Don’t you hate it?
I mean, guys. Mirrors. Cas spoke to a reflection of himself in the Empty. Literally. He addressed his greatest fears about relationships with himself. He was forced to rewatch his greatest mistakes, and what gets featured? Our first two DeanCas rifts. F*ck this show.
DreamHunter parallel! 13x10 reenacted this scene for us with Claire and Kaia.
Then, 13x05 changes the whole game once more. You know, the episode titled Thanatology. The study of Death. Fuck this show.
As Destiel 3.0+ dies, Destiel 4.0 is born.
~~~
The intensity of the queer narrative amps up continually. Things are getting harder to write off.
Rifts between worlds, crossover and confinement, and estrangement, and the blurring of lines, and the breaking of old taboos/breach of old barriers dominates the remainder of Season 13 and Season 14. We hold this broad focus for a long time, and Dean and Castiel become the emotional equivalent of the plot arc, always there, brewing, but taking a backseat to the Big Stuff. A wall rises, and solidifies. Silver Pole of Communication Barriers, anyone?
Then? Season 15 kicks us in the Destiel balls.
Full disclosure: I didn’t see this next part coming. I dared not ask season 15 for anything this significant, so the last scene of 15x08 just about took my life.
~~~
The Purgatory Rift
Tumblr media
Episode(s): 15x08, 15x09
Dun dun DUN!!
This twist was my favorite Christmas present, because it communicated to me that the writers have an understanding of Dean and Cas’s history to match our own. Not only are they actively writing them utilizing the Destiel playbook, they obviously care immensely about the destiny of their relationship. I am speaking too soon to say this definitively, but this mission has all the hallmarks of a plot device designed to serve many purposes in respect to Dean and Castiel. They’ve got ALL the ingredients. There are so many things tied in here that it gets pretty damn near fanfiction territory.
Please read my reaction to the purgatory twist if you need context, as I don’t feel much like regurgitating it. This post is long enough, lol. (A bloom that grows only in one place? Fuck you, writers. You’re going to KILL me.)
~~~
So, to recap: In a universe defined by barriers and guidelines, a relationship that refuses to be defined will be under constant siege. Dean and Castiel suffer from the sheer reality of walking lines between two designated states of being-- friends and lovers, angel and human, take your pick. The current order isn’t friendly to beings who don’t fit a category. Until the barriers are stripped away, they cannot exist as they are, and rifts will continue to rip them apart.
The Purgatory Rift of 15x08 is such a big deal because it fuses themes. The rifts of the Dabb era have merged with the gateways of the Carver era. Not only are our long-standing almost-lovers returning to their relationship’s place of origin, they are doing so by breaching physical barriers designed to keep them apart; and all the while, the most dangerous, important rift is not the one in the fabric of reality, but the one in their relationship.
I expect this major rift to end no differently than it has in the past. Dean and Cas will be separated, and Cas will be out of reach. And then, they’ll be reunited. But, where will that take us? What will the next reincarnation look like?
As Destiel 4.0 dies, something will be born.

OHOHOH I LOVE THIS THANK YOU
How I feel about this character claire: the whole love of my life my daughter my reason for breathing CLAIRE NOVAK MY BELOVED alex: i like her!! she’s not my Fave but i mostly just haven’t put too much time into her character and if i thought about her more she would probably be a fave patience: it’s literally criminal we only got a few episodes with her i loved her so so SO bad and i would have loved to see more of her character development if they had given her more episodes kaia: I LOVE HERRR once again more screen time for kaia i loved her and claire’s relationship and i would have loved to see more of her character outside of that relationship but she is baby
All the people I ship romantically with this character claire: kaia my beloved alex: i don’t think i have one!!! but give her a girlfriend patience: again don’t rly have one but give her a girlfriend<33 kaia: CLAIRE MY BELOVED
My non-romantic OTP for this character claire: kevin i want her and kevin to be chaotic besties alex: ALICIA BANES CAN U IMAGINE HOW FUN THAT WOULD BEEEE patience: also kevin i think they would bond over psychic tendencies and antagonize claire basicaclly i just think kevin should be their friend kaia: KAIA AND JACK BEST FRIENDS SUPREMACY WE LITERALLLYYYYY ALMOST HAD IT if this show didnt hate me jack and kaia would have been BESTIES
My unpopular opinion about this character yall i truly have nothing to say in this category for these characters either xoxo gossip mars<3
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. claire: dean giving her the impala, she and jack hunting together, more episodes of her in general, etc etc alex: if she is friends with alicia then alicia and max could teach her witchcraft and i j i just think it would be neat if she combined that and medicine and became a healer in the hunter community just saying patience: i wish missouri hadn’t died and that patience had gotten to live with her for a bit i think that would have been so good for both of them and such a compelling arc. bonus points if it was in wayward sisters and it’s a two to three episode arc where patience leaves jody’s house and jody’s internal struggle w that kaia: more development for her outside of her relationship with claire, strengthening her relationship w her new moms and remembering what it’s like to have a family, deciding what she wants to do outside of running for her life, getting up to shenanigans with jack bc they are besties yes i am i am pushing the dean-coded claire sam-coded jack cas-coded kaia agenda again tfw 3.0

Ok but like imagine Stephanie Brown and Claire Novak as the same person like after Claire’s parents die she gets ‘adopted’ by Crystal and Arthur. Like Arthur killed the real Stephanie and Crystal went crazy so he took her from some group house or something.
When they start calling her Stephanie she decides that going by a different name would be better than Arthur beating her again.
Then when Arthur becomes Cluemaster. She doesn’t feel bad about becoming the bane of his existence as Spoiler ‘Enemy to criminals and People who hate Purple’ not one bit.
When she falls in love with the 2nd Robin she doesn’t tell him her real name. She tells him Spoiler. When he tells her he knows who she really is, she’s relieved when he says Stephanie Brown.
It was the first time she was relieved to hear the name.
When he dies she’s devastated she never told him her real name. She screams and crys and wants to vow to never love another. But Jason left her an ‘in case of my death’ note. Making her promise to not be alone.
She vows to not love lightly and to insure he would approve.
It doesn’t help when she falls in love next it’s with the criminal Red Hood. So she fights it and fights it and fights it. Jason would never tolerate The Red Hood much less approve of him or his methods.
Then Black Mask kidnaps and tortures her. But Hood saves her. Jason would like him. Even if he was to late.
Hood tries anyway rushes her to Leslie and begs her to live. When she asks why he cares so much he takes off the helmet and says “Because I love you.” She doesn’t get the chance to say it back to scold Jason about not telling her he was alive this whole time. In fact she doesn’t get to say anything because blood is pooling in her mouth. But she squeezes his hand 3 times to say ‘I love you too’ and he says he understands.
She hopes he writes something good for her grave.
When she wakes up she’s in a coffin 6ft. under and her gravestone says Stephanie Brown 2001-2018 ‘A light in the darkness of Gotham that inspired Kind Hearts.’ She didn’t get to read it until 5 years later.
When she dug herself out she was greated by a hand with a trench coat draped over the wrist. Cas had brought her back from hell. She almost didn’t want him too. Two years in hell meant her soul might be damaged beyond repair. He knew that but He saved her anyway.
Cas had tried to apologize for not being able to save her sooner but he had been in Purgatory with Dean. Then Heaven had controlled his mind. She said it was ok, that she was ok that she didn’t even remember hell.
She lied on both counts. He let her.
Cas brought her to Dean who in turn brought her to Rowena. The witch called in a favor with Ra’s Al Ghul. The Lazuras Pit healed her body and Rowena healed her soul.
But her mind was another thing. Magic and the mind don’t go together well. So she was left with the memories of hell and very little else. She didn’t remember Gotham or Spoiler or Jason. All she remembered was 2,400 years of hell. 1,500 years of being tortured. The first 400 of which demons wore Jason’s face to cause psychological harms along with the physical. 100 years of torturing later she didn’t know who he was beyond the face of a demon. 1,000 years later she didn’t recall him at all. Then she said yes. She picked up a blade and began 900 long years of ripping people apart. Of pain and screams and people begging for it to stop.
She was just happy it wasn’t her anymore.
That was what haunted her dreams the smile she bore as they bled, and burned, and cried.
The boys eventually took her to Soiux Falls, South Dakota to heal up. Jody and Alex set up her room. She hunted to pay penance. She killed Werewolves and Vampires, Witches and Demons. She killed the things that killed innocents.
She had a code.
She worked at the precinct for Jody. She got her high school diploma and started her Medical Degree to become a surgeon. Alex, Jody and the Winchesters were her family.
But she was missing something, someone.
She went to Ra’s trained as a league assassin. Became ‘Aleasfur’ (The Sparrow). She met Damien Al Ghul a Prince no older than 10 but with a battle strategy that outmatched most.
He looked familiar.
She didn’t find what she needed. So Ra’s released her “for now.”
She found Themyscira trained with Amazons and Goddesses.
She did not find what she needed.
After 5 years of searching for a way to heal her memory she went back to the first thing she remembered top-side. Her grave.
A man was setting purple flowers on her headstone. She had dyed her hair and changed so much he didn’t recognize her at first. She asked if he knew the person who was supposed to be in the coffin. He said he loved her. Then looked up, she knew the look had seen it before, the ‘I know you, You’re supposed to be dead’ look. When he stood up she almost ran but he hugged her before she could.
When The man hugged her she felt at home even though she had no memory of him. When he asked where she’d been she told him the truth. Told him of having only one memory of his voice saying “I love you.” Of trying to restore more of her memory by traveling the world only to be led back to the beginning.
‘Jason’ brought her to a place called Wayne Manor. Said “Alfie will help.” ‘Alfie’ injected her with a serum. As she passed out she realized how stupid she is to let a total stranger inject some drug into her arm.
When she woke up she remembered.
She remembered her parents, she remembered Arthur and Crystal, she remembered Bruce Wayne and Batman, she remembered Cass and Kara and Kate, she remembered Black Mask, she remembered Tim Drake-Wayne, Kon-el, Duke Thomas, and Dick Grayson. She remembered her friends and family.
But most of all she remembered Jason.
The taste of his lips, they feel of his hands on her thighs, the feel of his dick in her throat, the way he would talk so sweet as he nailed her so hard or the pull of her hair as he bent her over.
She remembered him.
How when they would read Jane Austen on rooftops he would bit his lower lip in concentration, or how right before he kissed her his nose would twitch, or when they first knocked someone out in one punch the other convinced Bruce to buy milkshakes.
She remembered everything.
The look frozen in time on his face, the shrapnel dug into his skin and the crowbar stuck in his head. She remembered every cut and bruise. She remembered the way her throat felt after screaming so hard she coughed up blood.
Then She remembered the Red Hood.
How it felt to betray Jason’s memory. How relieved she was when he took off the hood, how she died holding her lovers hand. How her last thought was that he would love someone else.
When she woke up everyone was there. Cass, Duke, Dick, Babs, Bruce, Kate, Kon-el, Tim, Harper, and Alfred.
And Jason could be found right next to her, holding her hand fast asleep with Titus at his feet.
When Jason woke up and everyone went to their own rooms he told her he broke their promise of loving again. That he couldn’t move on that he loved her still. She told him he might not after she told the truth about everything, about what she had been doing for the 5 years she’d been out of hell. About all the lies she told before she died. He promised it wouldn’t change the way he felt about her.
She explained everything hunting, heaven, her time in hell her new friends and family. And everything else.
Finally she told him her name. How it became hers and why she never told him. Then she told him that she understands if he can’t love her after everything but she will always love him and always has even when she didn’t remember him she missed him.
Then he said the one thing She had always wished for “I love you, Claire Novak.”
