Not rly st related, well maybe? 4th of July , but why are US-citizens so in love with their country? They even call themselves Americans when their nation is just one part of the continent, lol. If I were as obsessed with my country people would call me crazy. Oh and my granny is German and I know that many Germans are still scared to even wave their flag cos of past events, and the US isn't rly a nation of peace either. pls dont get me wrong, Im just curious and dont know any US people irl xD
I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert on the matter, but I do have something of an interest in history.
I think the patriotic spirit of Americans is as much a practical matter as it is a symbolic one. In the early Colonial days, citizens were more likely to identify themselves by their colony (i.e. Pennsylvanian or Virginian). They were also still British citizens at the time, and, even during the Revolution, many still stayed loyal to the king. Creating a sense of patriotism and a unified front would be crucial in presenting a realistic challenge to the British Empire. One of the rally flags of the Revolution was the Join or Die flag. It was not a threat, but a warning. We had to band together to stand a chance.
Tumblr media
(For non-Americans, the colonies, as depicted from left to right, are South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and New England.)
It may seem weird to think about it now, but my country was very much the underdog in any conflicts until the early 20th century. Defeats came often, and were, at times, devastating. War support would be extremely difficult if not for the sense that we were one people with something to defend. It's Tribalism, for good or ill. It's the same phenomena that results in sports fans going crazy when their team loses (or wins!) or makes people jump up to defend family members they may not even like. Everyone wants to "belong" to something, and, here in America, we created a sense of belonging to a country.
I'll admit that the American sense of patriotism came as a result of the cultivation of an "us vs them" attitude. The easiest way to get even a more modest US citizen to start waving a flag is for a foreign individual or state to insult our nation or culture.
The love of country still has a pragmatic component today, though. We have always been a nation of mixed cultures and ethnicities (even though some of them had no say in the matter), but that is true even more so today. Having a strong national identity and pride helps bring these different cultures together. While we still have no shortage of backwards, bigoted people, most of us welcome new additions to our culture.
Sadly, this concept of a unifying identity has been repeatedly challenged. One group or another would be deemed as "Un-American" or inferior, often by the more conservative among us. I imagine America's history of racial abuse and discrimination is known outside of my country. There's also the horrible crimes committed against the Native Americans and the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War 2. Socialists, or, indeed, any simply suspected of socialist sympathies, were often persecuted during the Cold War. The new millennium saw rising hostilities against Arab-Americans. This too also contributed to the American sense of patriotism, as these groups would sometimes go to great lengths to express that their political opinions or cultural backgrounds didn't diminish their love of country.
When it comes down to it, though, our patriotism and Fourth of July celebrations draws on that original underdog element. While I doubt anyone would call America the underdog anymore, we were still a country that probably never should have existed. By all rights, we had no business defeating the British in the Revolution. We somehow repelled a British invasion in 1812 (that we provoked, but still). The Union struggled massively early on in the Civil War in 1861 and came pretty close to having to deal with the British allying with the rebellious Confederacy. We are proud to be Americans for, if nothing else, simply managing to have the chance to be Americans.
We have no shortage of sin. Anyone who says otherwise is nationalistic, not patriotic. One of our greatest cultural values is the freedom to criticize our government, but the more extreme of us tend to forget that. Our military and political power also tends to result in being too willing to get into conflicts, often without a plan as to how to get out. We can often now be the snobs looking down our noses at the rest of the world. We're the ones fighting against the underdogs, at times suffering humiliating defeats. I personally feel we need to be humbled, at times, though.
Being such a diverse culture also means that sometimes the "wrong people" get power. Internal strife can become great, as disagreements as to how to run the country escalate and permeate every corner of the country. It often brings family member against family member, neighbor against neighbor, colleague against colleague, friend against friend. These celebrations are also a means to remind us, when things cool down, that we are still one.
At the end of the day, the same values and freedoms that we celebrate with our patriotism bring about the need for the patriotism. It's something of an oddly paradoxical cycle. Without the unifying sense of being of one country, the freedom to dissent, the freedom to express your religion or culture, and the freedom to express your individuality could all result in America and its culture breaking apart into separate entities. Oddly enough, it's these freedoms that ultimately bind us together, even if we each secretly feel that our neighbors are morons who have it all wrong.
As for why we call ourselves Americans, well, we simply don't have better options. The official name of the country is the United States of America. We wouldn't call ourselves United Staters, as that part of the country simply indicates that we're comprised of (currently 50) partially autonomous states. We'd more likely go back to calling ourselves by our individual states. For example, I'd identity myself as a Pennsylvanian. As far as I'm aware, people don't celebrate their individual state quite as much, with possibly the exception of Texans. The America part is the common element that binds us, so we become Americans.
I have heard of the German reluctance to express a sense of national pride like we do here. I can certainly understand that reluctance after what happened with the Holocaust. I think it's important to remember where you were. I fear my country sometimes tries to ignore the darker parts of our own history. I think our patriotic spirit remains because we like to believe we've grown past those events. In some ways we have, but I fear we often look the other way when it comes to remnants of those events. I admire Germany's refusal to forget what's happened, though I do think you might be punishing yourselves a bit too much.
For the record, I think we often overdo it with the patriotism. I don't agree, for example, with having kids recite the Pledge of Allegiance in school. I'm not sure how seriously most parents or kids take it anymore, though. It's mostly just become routine by now. I also don't buy into the whole "America First" garbage. Yes, our government has a responsibility to look out for our interests, but it shouldn't come at the expense of the needs and well-being of other countries.
I hope this somewhat answers your questions. I imagine I may have some errors with my facts or interpretations. Like I said, I'm no historian. This is simply my understanding of the matter.

Eurovision 2021 ranking
hello, hello and welcome to my eurovision 2021 ranking. the songs are ranked with numbers but I also put them into categories (from 💐 to 🥀) and added a short comment. so, if you are interested in my personal opinion about the songs, have fun:
💐:
Switzerland: I was rooting for him last year and it’s the one returner in my top that didn’t disappoint me that much. what a start, huh? I love the song, I love the feeling it gives me when I listen to it, the clip is very pretty too. did I like his last entry better? yes, but I will say it already here at the very top of this list: I liked last year’s choices in general a lot more. nevertheless, this is a beautiful entry! and it is my personal winner this year
Australia: I loved her last song. It was there for me when I needed it. Technicolour does not touch me in that way but it is fun!! it’s catchy to me and I really like Montaigne. I adore her style and how she sings. I am excitingly looking forward to this performance :)
France: beautiful song, amazing singer, the national final performance was wonderful. however, I listened to it so much that back in March I already needed a break form it. now as I am finishing this it’s April and I can slowly listen to it again. it’s me though, it’s not her. that’s really a me problem. she’s wonderful and I love the French touch to this
Albania: a ballad from the Balkans <3 hello, of course I like it and I love that they kept it in Albanian this year. I heard similar songs before, but I like the sound of it still.and overall it’s a song that gives me familiar vibes in a cozy way with a bit of drama
Russia: interesting!! I was relived to see that Little Big didn’t return because, as I explained in my ranking for last year, I was not feeling them. absolutely nothing about them, but I love her! I think it’s catchy, it’s something different and I like the message she supports. it took me a few times to fully decide how I feel about the song, but now it’s in my top for sure
Denmark: fun! a fun song in Danish. I really like the good mood it puts me in. I even see this in the context of the Umbrella Academy or Stranger Things or something like that when they go to Europe to party a bit. I also really enjoy the old school vibe this has to it. I miss that vibe. I’m also a bit old school
Cyprus: I absolutely do not relate to anything said in this song but it’s catchy! it is a bit fuego and a bit replay but I liked those entries as well, so yeah fire. I have not heard a single live performance by her but I am not exactly sure that vocals will be the aspect that she will try to win votes with anyway. I am amused by the fact that apparently people were offended by this song when it clearly makes no sense whatsoever. it’s simply a bop, move on and dance a bit
🌺:
(8.) Greece: fun as well! a ‘dream team’ entry for sure. I say this a bit sarcastically, but they do well a lot of the times and I am lured in by a lot of their entries myself. Kontopoulos is a big name in the esc industry, it’s a fact. the song is a bit more mature than Superg!rl, which I also listened to more often that I thought I would. It still reminds me of a theme song for a superhero show for kids and I am a bit worried that the ‘dReAM TeAm’ is a bit too outdated for Stefania because I think she could have done something cooler than both of those songs
(9.) Sweden: it took me a few times listening to this song, but I like the song now. I don’t think it’s too special and “a million voices” reminds me of Polina immediately because those are her words for me, but this is a good song too. I like how it makes me feel empowered and like everything will be okay. thank you for that, Tusse, I need that
(10.) Israel: Eden deserved a better song. I like this song less than last year’s entry because I think it’s less interesting and I loved some instrumental parts from last year’s entry, but this is not bad either. I am rooting more for her than for the song, but I guess that’s this year’s motto for me. I also can’t say that I love the revamp because it made it sound even more generic for me
(11.) Belgium: I saw the promo pics for them and was very confused how different the singer looks this year, but it turns out that it’s not the same woman. I like this entry a lot better. I like her voice and I really like the vibe. It sounds a bit like it could play in the background of a classic American tv show when a character is going a bit through it and pouring a drink while it’s dark outside. I have the same problem that I mentioned already while talking about the French entry, but that’s still a me problem. I just need a break
(12.) Ireland: this entry is a lot less annoying to me than the song that she had last year. I like the lyrics and whole aesthetic of this one a lot more. it’s another one that I can’t listen to too often, but I still think it’s a very good choice imo
(13.) The Netherlands: Jeangu!! I think he for example will give a wonderful vocal performance. Growth felt way more personal to me, but that’s a repeating motive this year and also a me problem because obviously this is his song and he does it well
🌻:
(14.) San Marino: I’m still confused by this feature and I can’t really say that I’m ‘living’ for it, but I already made a post about how I don’t think she needed Flo Rida. minus the feature it’s a catchy party song, but it reminds me of one song that I simply can’t remember anymore. something that I heard from the Greek music industry, maybe even Eleni, if you know which one I mean, pls let me know
(15.) Estonia: just like last year: this song doesn’t make much sense and I don’t want to, but I still catch myself listening to it frequently... I am sorry, I can’t help it, but it puts me in a eurovision mood and yes, I am blaming Kontopoulos again. I am a weak person when it comes to his melodies
(16.) Ukraine: first I had it lower in my ranking, but I like SHUM better now and I like it a lot more now than last years entry. I really like the part when it gets faster, that’s really fun and makes me want to jump! jump! jump!
(17.) Spain: it’s a lot less repetitive than the last entry, but I would be lying if I said that I listen to this very often. it’s alright, not bad at all actually, but I just wasn’t in the mood for this (yet?)
(18.) Romania: this is for me still the same type of style as Bulgaria. European Billie Eilish type. last year I ranked her higher than Bulgaria as well, but they are pretty much the same to me. I can’t comment on whether I like her song less or more this year. it’s not bad either but I simply don’t think about it much
(19.) Bulgaria: I think I like this entry better than her last one. the message is cute, the melody too and yeah, but I don’t care about it too much
🌼:
(20.) Croatia: it’s a faster pop song without a real meaning. ground-breaking. the title makes me think of Ukraine 2014. which I like better, but we’ll see, maybe the performance will have something cool too. I will say though, I would have prefered the whole song to be in Croatian, it doesn’t make it much deeper, but I like that part the most
(21.) Malta: another faster pop song. I think she will give an amazing vocal performance and it will be cool and powerful, but the message and lyrics are a bit confusing to me. I am not the lyrics police, but I am confused by them a bit
(22.) Iceland: I think I like it better than last year’s song, but it’s still not LOVE that I feel for the song. I can listen to it though
(23.) Lithuania: it’s there. I am not a fan of them and it’s not a song I love too much, but I can listen to it
(24.) North Macedonia: sigh. I liked last year’s entry a lot and Vasil seems like someone who cares a lot about the contest, but I don’t feel this ballad. I think I know what they were going for and what it’s trying to be, dramatic and meaningful, but I don’t feel it that much. it’s okay? but it doesn’t do much for me
(25.) Czech Republic: this was a surprise because I think the overall quality of his entry got a lot better, this time though I have the problem that I do not like the lyrics. they don’t make me as uncomfortable as Germany last year but they are in that area of uhm, I don’t love the feeling this gives me
(26.) UK: hm :/ I can’t say that I’m a fan. this sounds like the type of song that the boring straight men in my area put in their tinder bio as their song, but it’s every third guy that says this is his song. those Calvin Harris remix type-ish songs and I am sooo bored. I swipe left because it’s no match, I delete tinder. breath was a lot more my thing and a lot more exciting and interesting
(27.) Poland: as soon as this stops, the exact same second, I forget everything about it. I don’t remember a single word, barely the title and singer and not the melody. what is this about? I can’t tell you. it’s not exactly bad, but it is so forgettable
(28.) Moldova: oh faster pop song? wow.. so.. original. I am starting to sound like those weird people that hate ballads. I don’t feel it and I don’t relate to it, but I also don’t hate it. the video though.. no thanks.
(29.) Italy: as so often: I see a lot of Italy fans on here and I can’t relate. it’s not for me, but it’s there and I can listen to it when I can’t reach the skip button for some reason
(30.) Austria: hm. Austria and Slovenia are going there. this is the better Amen song for me, but I don’t love it. it’s better than what Ana is trying to sell even though it’s super repetitive
🥀:
(31.) Serbia: I can’t tell you if it’s worse than last year but it’s less catchy. the lyrics are still bad. actually, maybe I am the lyrics police
(32.) Finland: this not my genre and I don’t really listen to it
(33.) Slovenia: nop. not for me in any way. I already said last year that I don’t like her voice and it didn’t change but now I also don’t love the message or weird vibe of this entry. I had it even lower, but I can’t push it up more. this is as high as I can rank it
(34.) Norway: I don’t like it. I don’t like the lyrics or melody or performance that was in the nf actually. I have a hard time understanding the concept even with the explanation it makes no sense to me
(35.) Portugal: I don’t like it. a lot of the parts of the melody are really not for me and borderline annoying, but definitely boring
(36.) Georgia: it’s boring. the last entry was at least something interesting, but this one is boring, which makes me a bit sad because his voice sounds and he seems like the guy that could make something cooler. I know I am not the person that can judge rock because I don’t listen to it too much, but I feel like he could have done something cooler and ‘rock’ it more
(37.) Latvia: again: I can’t even say if it’s worse or better than last year. maybe a bit better actually but, just as last time, I can’t listen to this. it annoys me and gives me a bit of a headache. I don’t think her style and voice is for me
(38.) Germany: I wouldn’t necessarily call it hate that I feel when I have to listen to this, even though that’s a funny play with the words of this title, but I definitely feel very annoyed by this song, so I simply don’t listen to it
(39.) Azerbaijan: the song sounds just like the last one, which I had placed on the 14. place in my own 2020 ranking, however, I can’t bring myself to support someone who posts war propaganda on their socials. it’s eurovision and about the songs, I know, but this is my blog and my ranking. so it’s a no for me this time and my last place in this ranking

Not sure that counts as weird ask but..
You mentioned the other day that you are interested in getting four more jerseys. Tell us about them 😊
Okay so I did get my Timmi one already! BUT! I do want so many more like ughhhh gimme the money's 💸
So Mannheim's alternate jerseys this season are just chefs kisses and after refraining last time because my partner called me "horny on main" and shamed me out of buying an Eisi one... This time I really do wanna get the black jersey with Eisenschmid's number! 😌
Tumblr media
(this one, not that I don't already own 3 Mannheim jerseys)
Then, when I saw that Mo Seider jerseys were still available I was like fjcndjdjdjcndj ok I really really want a jersey from my emotional support rookie. It would be super dumb getting yet another Adler jersey and the Team Germany jerseys are 🔥 so I guess eventually I will get that one as well haha (hopefully)
Tumblr media
(hand it over pls)
Now, Köln's jerseys this season... Immaculate. And even if he won't play for Köln anymore next season, I do want to get a jersey of the baby face boyfriend!
Tumblr media
And then... I k ow it doesn't look like anymore but I am still a stars and a flyers fan so it's between either a Klinger (to compliment my Seggy one) or a TK jersey, maybe if I win the lottery it's both haha.
So that's my dream for now but I don't think I will really get any of those besides the Eisi one haha

how do all y'all recommend getting into football for a newcomer? just pick a team and start watching them? or like watch previous tournaments or something?
first of all, welcome to football :3
there’s some similarities to the terror so i think you might find it quite familiar:
Tumblr media
get ready for some rambling below the cut!
i think it’s easiest to start by watching a bigger international tournament while it’s happening. the world cup, obviously, is the biggest event in football, but other tournaments like the european championships or the copa américa (or whatever is going on where you’re from) also work well and are happening sooner (in 2020). follow the country you’re from if they qualified or pick any other country you like, really, and… just watch.
the advantage of those tournaments are that you’ll usually get to see a good mix of teams that are actually playing to win, that it all happens within the span of a month and that there will be extensive media coverage of the matches, part of it tailored to new viewers. don’t worry too much about the details of all the rules, you’ll get into the important ones quite quickly after watching some matches. part of being a football fan also is angrily disagreeing with the rules so not much knowledge is required. the emotions are the important thing. when the tournament is over you can follow the players you got to know during it back to their clubs and slip nicely into watching club football and selling your soul to the beautiful game.
of course you can also start with club football and randomly see what sticks. football is all about irrational attachments so… whatever works. (if you’re looking for club matches, this is a good site to find a stream!)
we agreed on our discord to each recommend a past match and an upcoming one to watch. i’ve thought about it for a bit and always kept coming back to the same match that’s a classic one and though it’s cliché i’m biased enough not to care. so. world cup 2014 semifinal between germany and brazil. i promise you the pay-off is very good (unless you support brazil).
for an upcoming match there’s a women’s football match between england and germany happening on 9th november. i know we’re all here for guys being lads but if you feel like it, check out the women playing, too.
- frauke
past match: my past match recommendation is Germany vs England, World Cup 2010, Round of 16. I think it’s a beautiful example of football at its best (Germany’s incredibly fluid style of play, feat. one of my favorite goals of all time) and worst (a referee completely failing to call a goal: a farcically monstrous error on the world stage). I love this game because despite everyone’s tactics, despite everyone’s efforts, the entire game arguably hinges on one incredibly stupid, incredibly human mistake, and what comes after. In a way it is a little bit like the Franklin expedition! And even nine years later the thought of what could have been evokes hilarity in some (three fifths of this mod team) and despair in others (one fifth of this mod team). That’s football babey! [WATCH IT HERE]
upcoming match: I’m gonna recommend a club match for this one! I’m a fan of German football and the Berlin derby (Union Berlin vs Hertha Berlin) is coming up this Saturday (Nov 2) at 5:30PM GMT! This is the first time these teams will be playing each other in the top league of German football, and it’s likely to be a good example of what rivalries in club football can be like. Union Berlin has a great underdog story–this is their first year ever in the Bundesliga–and it should be a lot of fun all around! Also, one week later, on Nov 9 at 4:30PM GMT, Borussia Dortmund take on perennial juggernauts Bayern Munich. Over the last decade or so Dortmund’s fast-paced, attacking football has been the only real challenge to Bayern’s throne, and with Bayern (my team, for better or worse) not playing nearly as well as they should this season, this could shape up to be an exciting match!
-ireny
past match: so i heard you like this very english show about these very english boys? you also like to suffer? FANTASTIC! croatia vs. england, the world cup 2018 semifinals, is the only match that matters on the planet and you should watch it immediately. underdog narratives on both sides! nobody expected either team to make it as far as they did – england because they’ve got a long history of disappointing in national tournaments, croatia because they’re considered a small country in football terms and because they hadn’t gotten past the group stages since 1998. england scored early, croatia equalized in the second half to drag them to extra time – their third game in a row that went to 120+ minutes – and despite how ragged and exhausted the team was, my #1 player of all time ever mario mandžukić scored the winning goal that got croatia through to their first ever world cup final. it was a truly transcendent moment. no matter whose side you’re on (i mean, there is only one right side, but who am i to judge) it’s a thrilling, scrappy game to watch. i want you to watch it so badly, i have a link for you.
upcoming match: outside of frothing at the mouth about my national team, i watch the italian league religiously. if you’d like to try out club football, this weekend has a couple high profile games in italy. on saturday (nov. 2) at 7:00 AM PT, you can watch roma vs. napoli, which are two teams that are considered hipster to like despite the fact that they’re actually massive. napoli are, regrettably, usually very good, but have had a poor start to their season, so they’ll be looking to dominate on-fire roma. it should be a shitshow, i can’t wait! meanwhile, at 12:45 PM PT you can watch the derby della mole, torino vs. juventus. juve is the most successful team in serie a, and torino are their cross-town rivals who are EXTREMELY lovable but also Not Very Good At Football. watch it and root for torino and have your heart broken (and then come talk to me about either team/any players you like because i can prime you equally on both!) (not ronaldo.)
- caitlin
past match: W O W do the attacks against england just keep coming and coming huh just like Tuunbaq huh!!!! Aside from that, the perennial sense of crisis, setback after setback, English people suffering, madness and disappointment, and betrayal of everything you hold dear are also some of the ways in which England resembles The Terror and therefore why you should also watch us.
In the spirit of England, I’m going to recommend a match in which we lose: England 1-1 West Germany, 4-3 on penalties, at the 1990 World Cup. We lose to Germany a lot. (Pls hold: 1966, babey.) But 1990 was the first time that we reached the semi-finals since ‘66, and it was crazily emotionally charged; our coach Bobby Robson was leaving amidst a scandal, there’d been fights between the police and fans, and of course there was a palpable sense of christ, we could actually do it. (I say ‘we’ as in the way football fans say ‘we’, since in 1990 I was -5 years old.) The game is rip-roaring, furious, dramatic - look for Gazza’s Tears - and also introduces you to the concept of extra time, aka sitting in your seats for a full half-hour more than you expected, and penalties, aka something we are so famously bad at that when we finally won a penalty shootout last year we celebrated as if we had won the cup itself.
upcoming match: The Engl attacks made me defend myself and I couldn’t recommend a club game, which I would otherwise have (United 2-1 Arsenal ‘99, for those interested) because my club’s current football is SO DIRE I would not recommend it to anyone unless I wanted to turn them off of football forever. You might want to tune in next week for Liverpool Vs Man City (4:30 PM GMT, 10 Nov), a giant clash with probably entertaining football for everyone except United fans, who will desperately be cheering on Team Sinkhole.
- rach
I have something to add, which is that football has a weird and wild history, and I recommend looking up something like ‘the 10 most inexplicable moments in football’, or ‘five of the most unhinged things the most unhinged managers have ever said’ to get a taste. The sport is about enjoying the actual movement of the ball across the grass, but it’s also about basking in the massive array of bizarre personalities.
past match: a lot of good bases have already been covered re: Germany so I won’t pile on by recommending our 4-0 battering of Argentina in 2010 :3c I present to you instead the FA Cup final from 2014, Arsenal-Hull City. (Have a link!) Arsenal hadn’t won a trophy in nine years. The fan discontent with iconic manager Arsene Wenger was getting nasty. Hull City was the decided underdog. An underdog who promptly scored twice in the first ten minutes. Through a mix of lovely skill and scrappy luck the match ended happily for Arsenal, and even knowing that the Wenger story wasn’t entirely on the up and up after breaking that long drought, seeing the sheer joy and relief on everyone’ faces still makes me feel a whole lot of things.
upcoming match: that aside, Arsenal are currently playing as though they’ve got lost in a damp paper bag and have yet to soggily wander their way out. Despite that I’m going to recommend Leicester-Arsenal next weekend (9 Nov, 18.30 CET). Leicester have been absolutely swanning about (they annihilated Southampton last week 0-9 in the joint-largest prem league scoreline ever) and Arsenal at the moment, with their negative confidence and cotton wool defence are precisely in position to be smashed. But we’ve also done historically quite well against Leicester, and it could be the sort of match where Arsenal get their heads up and deliver the kind of easy-passing, smooth-running performance they’re supposed to be known for. It has great potential to be either a misery or a cheer-up charm for me, and regardless it’ll be a good time for you.

ENGWNT
Ok so I'm just sharing an opinion here so don't @ me 😅. Basically over the past few days there's been talk about how "bad" Phil Neville is and that everyone wants him out, as well as questions on why the players are supporting him. These friendlies have been a totally different situation. Look how well we played before the world cup, that was PHIL NEVILLE right there. Obvs bc we had to qualify and stuff but it's a totally different vibe now. It's not an excuse, but we're still suffering a "hangover" from the world cup imo and this just shows in the playing. I'm NOT saying that Phil's a good manager but I think he's alright and people are criticizing too quick. Put it this way, it's only a matter of time until someone's says something and if we don't win against Germany next month then I truly think Neville's time is done. WE'RE NOT PLAYING BAD FOOTBALL. Chances are being created (thanks MEADO 😅), it's just the finishings and a few other little things. Pls feel free to comment on this as I'm really interested to see what other people think ❤️

dumb and dumber for the platonic meme!
THE PLATONIC SHIP MEME:
Which one is the responsible one and which is known to be reckless? How do they deal with situations the reckless get caught up in?
Yeah, I truly do wonder which one them it would be… hmmm…. I think I need some time to dwell??? No, but I think we have discussed this part far too much in regards to them omgg. There’s not much Marius can do, as he suffers from the same fate as anyone else who spends time with Robin: too far away. Marius is, however, too soft to ever leave Robin hanging though, he will do his best to aid whenever he can. He keeps praying Robin will learn his lesson one day but alas.
Any personal memes or jokes in between them?
Man, we just have so much stuff that could be turned into a joke and I sometimes feel like the two of them are a major, but endearing, joke. We haven’t actually written them enough though to establish recurring ones, beyond stuff like Princess or Robin being a massive idiot, so most tend to center around them rather than be between them.
@alicemorganwrites
Is any of them prone to throw around compliments like a breeze? How does the other react?
Robin is, and always will be, the easy-going of the two. Compliments are about as casual as they come and he does his best to uplift Marius in ways he know he needs! Marius is rather awkward about it but appreciates it in his own little way.
Who likes hugs and connection the most?
Once again, Robin. He’s touchy and has no sense of personal space! I mean, he spends a lot of time around cultures which has this type of behavior normalized so to him it’s just a thing that you do. He will be found playing with Marius’ hair in all and every timeline :) Marius has no say on the matter.
How about endearing or ridiculous nicknames? Is there a story behind them?
I think it’s mostly Robin that has nicknames for Marius, one being Ängel (Angel in Swedish) and Princess. Ängel is obvious, being his last name and I know there’s a story for Princess but my head is so fried right now I can’t remember it?? I’ll remind myself of it one day!
Do they trust each other with deep secrets and thoughts?
Both yes and no?? In Robin’s case it’s not that he doesn’t trust Marius, it’s more so that he doesn’t like to dwell on anything that is older than 24 hours and thus he ends up sitting on more secrets than he should. Marius is more used to ranting about his problems, but still keep some stuff to himself until he feels ready to open up. They would, of course, trust each other to keep a secret and are each other’s main support through most things.
Do they share a deep secret together?
No secret that is only between the two of them, other people tend to get involved one way or another.
Who would win in a roast? How about a prank war?
I mean, I don’t think Robin has it in him to roast people?? He’d rather compliment them, even when it’s fun and games. His pranks would also be kind of weak, but I don’t think Marius would care much for a prank war either. So they’re tied hah. Marius might do better in the roast though!
How do they show each other support? (Heartbreaks, loss, dreams, achievements, etc.)
They’ve always been pretty steady in this regard! Marius’ was one of the first who heard about Robin’s wishes to travel and has been pushing his career forward ever since, and Robin loves to hear about Marius’ stories or read whatever he can -- even when it’s in German and he understands about 10% of it all. Marius’ never makes a massive deal out of the fact that Robin keeps jumping in and out of relationships and treats each break-up of his with respect, just as much as Robin acts a pillar in Marius’ struggles with his mom. The only time they really get challenged as friends is during the Nikander deal but I’d say they get out of it stronger than ever!
What would a typical hangout look like? Do they share some common activities?
Well, a typical hangout is usually in a random country handpicked by Robin (and sometimes Pia) with a bunch of equally as random activities planned up to keep them busy throughout the weekend -- with at least one trip to a bar -- or a weekend in Germany. That one tends to be casual, just some catching up -- and a trip to a bar. And they very much share a passion for writing and athletic activities, football at that!
If they do not already live together, what would their lives as roommates look like? Do they split chores or is one more prone to take control whilst the other slack around?
Oh, I don’t think them living together in the friendship timeline would differ all too much from the shippy one -- besides the fact Robin would have his own bedroom instead of them sharing. The apartment has mostly Marius’ imprint on it, with some throw in of Robin but not enough to properly notice there are two people living in the same space. They try and split chores, but also... Marius obviously do most of the cooking and Robin is more fond of keeping things tidy and clean. Marius also does most of the grocery shopping, because Robin has no idea of what he’s doing and needs to be reintroduced to society at a slow pace.
Would they ever adopt a pet together? If yes, what kind?
I think this would be more so Robin adopting a pet at random and demanding Marius’ be his co-parent. Probably would be a dog, Robin is very much a dog person.
If either suddenly found themselves caring for a child but lacked the support to properly aid for them, how would the other react, or chose to deal with the situation?
Marius, pls use protection!! Nah, but obviously Marius is the only out of the two that could knock someone up in that sense and honestly, if it ever came down to Marius ending up a parent and needing some aid (saying his aunt and uncle or Pia isn’t around haha) Robin would legit cut off traveling for a while and help Marius out. I mean, we both know Robin loves children anyway and Marius’ shouldn’t be surprised if he ever came home to Robin trying to teach a one year old how to start a fire or how to gut a fish. Baby’s first mountain boots is happening
What’s a memory they both hold dear?
Oh man, I would probably have to say the day they both finally managed to meet up in real life for the first time. Even if we... kind of didn’t get anywhere with the thread I just know it was such an anticipated moment and it took Marius so much courage to finally brush off his insecurities and reach out! They’ve been best friends since childhood and nothing is ever gonna stop that.

Gareth Southgate insists there is more to come from England at Euro 2020 | Football News

Gareth Southgate insists there is more to come from England at Euro 2020 | Football News
Tumblr media
Gareth Southgate vowed there is more to come from England at Euro 2020 after a narrow victory over the Czech Republic.
Raheem Sterling’s early header was enough to seal a 1-0 win at Wembley to secure top spot in Group D.
England are yet to concede in the tournament – although have only scored twice through Sterling – and will face France, Germany, Portugal or Hungary in a last-16 tie at Wembley next Tuesday.
Despite what looks like a potentially tricky last-16 encounter, Southgate is pleased it will take place at Wembley.
“There is more to come from us, definitely,” Southgate said.
“We’re not fluent but we have moments where we are a good side. We are still improving. We look difficult to play against.
“We haven’t scored from a set play yet,” he added. “I know people laugh about us only scoring from set plays but they are crucial in big matches and we have to get those nailed.
“We wanted to win the group, we wanted to stay at Wembley and we will wait and see who we play tomorrow.
Tumblr media
It is great to be having more supporters in that is for sure. Who knows if that will be good or not. We wanted to win the group and stay at Wembley and we will wait to see who we play.
Southgate on England’s last-16 game at Wembley
“They are different sorts of tests but there are a lot of good things we are doing.
“We have managed to get most of the squad into games, 90 minutes for Harry Maguire which was important, Hendo [Jordan Henderson] got 45 minutes which was a real step forward. There were a lot of positives for us.”
Southgate on “important” minutes for Maguire and Henderson…
“It was a difficult call. Tyrone Mings has been an absolute colossus for us and again came into the game at an important moment and dealt really well with that as well.
“Harry Maguire has that presence and composure. His pass through to Kane in the first half was a fabulous ball through the lines and there aren’t many defenders in world football who can do that. So, it was important for him to get those 90 minutes.
“It’s obviously more difficult for Jordan Henderson because he’s been out for so much longer. It was great to get him 45 minutes and he’ll be better for that. That adds to our options in that area of the pitch.”
Sterling hit a post inside two minutes before heading in Jack Grealish’s cross to win it after 12 minutes.
Grealish was one of four changes and Southgate praised his players for adapting quickly after Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell were forced to self-isolate on Monday.
They came into close contact with Scotland’s Billy Gilmour following Friday’s 0-0 draw at Wembley. The midfielder subsequently tested positive for coronavirus and it forced Southgate into a late reshuffle.

“I thought we started really well, we were stable with the ball, we had worked on some of the stuff in training yesterday,” he said.
“Credit to the players, some of the stuff we had to adjust without the ball as we had to change what we were doing overnight because of the different personnel.
“It was a huge credit to the players they were as stable without the ball as they were.
“We’ve played two opponents in the Croats and the Czechs who I think are playing at a very good level.
“And Scotland, which as an occasion and an experience for our players, especially the younger ones, was a quite unique and really important one, so these will be different games.
“We know world champions, European champions and Germany, who to me look like they’re back on song. They’ve brought some very experienced players back in.
“So whoever we play, really, really tough opposition but we’ve sort of known that for 18 months. We’ve known the route through.”
Tumblr media
Jack produced a fabulous cross for the goal. We saw some of the interchanging positions of those forward players was really exciting,at the start of the game especially. I thought we tired a little bit, but we know that because one or two are a little it short of fitness.
Southgate on Grealish’s impact
Southgate: ‘Saka grabbed his opportunity’

With England already assured of a knockout spot, Gareth Southgate had said before kick-off “it’s a great night for our attacking players to go and express themselves”, and they did, especially Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka, who put in a man-of-the-match performance.
Tumblr media

“We have been super impressed with Bukayo Saka throughout the month,” Southgate said.
“He was excellent up at Middlesbrough and we have liked him with and without the ball. His receiving tonight under pressure was fantastic.
Tumblr media
I thought Bukayo Saka was brilliant. I told him after the game that he got in the pockets of space, drove at people, he was direct and that’s what you need. It’s a credit to him.
Sterling on Saka
“I can’t speak highly enough of him. He’s earned that opportunity. His performances in training since he joined this camp have been outstanding.
“We’ve talked about playing him in some of the previous matches and he earned that chance tonight and he’s grabbed it. He was fabulous.”
Bukayo Saka on his tournament bow…
“We played some really good football at times. Of course, with us already qualifying before the game we had a lot more freedom and a chance to express ourselves. I think that showed tonight and I am really happy with the performance by myself and by the team.
“The manager just told me to go and express myself how I have for my club this season. Sometimes that meant dropping in and driving at the opponents and I did that, got us up the pitch, and it was a good cross from Jack with Raheem in the right place at the right time again.”
Sterling: You have to play the best teams at some point
Tumblr media

England goalscorer Raheem Sterling insists England must meet the knockout phase head-on after beating the Czech Republic to qualify for the last 16 as Group D winners.
“I think there are positives from the game,” the Man City forward said. “We kept the ball better today. It gave us more attacking options. We got in the gaps really well, played some good football and got the goal we needed.
He added: “If you don’t concede goals you win football matches. You just need to score at the other end. People were disappointed in the Scotland game a few days ago but we didn’t concede. The most important thing was to win the group. It is tournament football and it will be difficult but we need to do what we are doing.
“At some point you have to face the best teams. It is about challenging yourselves.”
Neville: I feel really confident about this England group
Tumblr media

Sky Sports’ Gary Neville talking to ITV:
“Job done, really professional. I will say it again, I don’t think England are going to win this tournament by outplaying France, Germany, Portugal, Spain.
“I don’t think we have the players to do that, I think we have good players, but I genuinely think we are going to win it by playing how are we are now, which is professional, keeping clean sheets, making sure that back is protected with those two lads in midfield. And then creating those individual moments of brilliance and we have got some players who can achieve that for us.
“Don’t be surprised if we play Germany or France we go to five at the back because I think we may need more than four defenders against [Kylian] Mbappe, [Antoine] Griezmann and [Karim] Benzema.
“If you are playing against Germany we can comfortably go to wing backs, I don’t rule anything out at this stage but I can’t see that Gareth [Southgate] will play the same way against the Czech Republic as he would against France or Germany.
Tumblr media
2:31
Bukayo Saka says England had to dig deep to beat the Czech Republic, and topping the group sealed a perfect night for the team.
“I’ve been part of England teams where in the group stage, it has been an emotional roller coaster, a circus almost.
“If this was Germany, or another country, we would look at them and think, ‘they look calm and in control.’ We do not think that with England because we always want more, we want the brilliance and the 3-0 win.
“But I feel really confident about this group and I actually trust the manager and that he knows what he is doing with this group.
“Massive game next week, a giant of a game, but a week to prepare for it and I’m looking forward to it….”
Keane: ‘Lots of pluses for efficient England’
Tumblr media
Image: Harry Kane and Jack Grealish applaud the fans after England’s win over Czech Republic
Sky Sports’ Roy Keane talking to ITV:
“They have been very efficient. Second half England did not have to be great, I was really disappointed with the Czech Republic’s mentality to try and score a goal.
“But the bottom line is at this level, it is all about winning football matches, it is job done.
“Of course it is going to get tougher, the players know that, but the big pluses for Gareth tonight are another clean sheet, Maguire has had 90 minutes, Henderson has had 45.
“Gareth will be delighted.”
Explained: Why Southgate is cautious | Is Grealish now a starter? | Foundations for future Scotland success?
Alice Piper is joined by Rob Dorsett and Pete Smith to discuss England’s 1-0 win over Czech Republic at Wembley to finish top of Group D at Euro 2020. Jack Grealish finally gets a start for England – is he now here to stay? Why IS Gareth Southgate so cautious with the Three Lions? Plus: praise for Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling.
The panel also cover all England positions and talking points going into the last 16, and discuss how Southgate will approach the knockout stages.
And after Scotland’s 3-1 defeat by Croatia at Hampden Park, Sky Sports News’ Charles Paterson joins us to look back their campaign, and whether the foundations are in place for more success in the future.
Opta stats – Shot shy England get the job done
Tumblr media
Image: Raheem Sterling celebrates with Jack Grealish after opening the scoring against Czech Republic
England have topped their group at a European Championships for only the third time, also doing so at Euro 1996 and Euro 2012. With just two goals scored, they are the lowest-scoring side to ever finish top of a group at a Euros tournament.
England have kept 15 clean sheets in their last 19 matches in all competitions, conceding only five goals. They have gone through a group stage at a major tournament without conceding for only the third time, also doing so at the 1966 World Cup and in the second group stage at the 1982 World Cup.
England failed to attempt a single shot at goal in the second half of a match for the first time since October 2018 against Spain in a UEFA Nations League match. Their last effort at goal was a Harry Kane attempt in the 26th minute.
Raheem Sterling has been directly involved in 20 goals in his last 19 matches for England (14 goals, 6 assists) and has ended on the winning side in all 12 matches when finding the net for the national team.
Since his England debut last September, Jack Grealish has more assists than any other England player (3), despite only playing in nine of the Three Lions’ 15 matches since then.
What’s next?
Finishing top of Group D means England will next play on Tuesday June 29 at 5pm at Wembley against the runners-up of Group F (either Portugal, France, Germany or Hungary).

I was tagged by @blindbatalex (thanks Alex :DD)
1. favorite player of all time
Philipp Lahm and Edwin Van Der Sar (don’t make me choose bye)
2. a game you will never forget (try to pick ONE)
I know there are lots of amazing matches but the one I’ll say now I remember for the worst reasons: Portugal x Netherlands - WC 2006 - it was so OUT OF CONTROL!! 16 yellow cards and 4 red cards! They were killing each other on the pitch: hand on the ball, headbutts, arguing, no fair play.. who knows how many times that match was paused. For some reason I still remember Gio and Deco sitting together on the stands after both being sent off lol. Everyone I knew was super excited about Portugal because Felipão (brazilian) was their coach but I was rooting for the Netherlands. Portugal scored on the first half and I suffered for the rest of the match (which, needless to say, was A LOT), I hated them so much back then, ugliest 1-0 ever. I'll never forget that mess™.
3. the national team u support the most
Brazil, probably, idk.. I love Netherlands and Germany NTs too. I hate when I have to choose between them.
4. if you could pick one of your teams to win any trophy, who and which?
I’d say Bayern and Champions League so that Fips could lift the trophy one more time but UEFA sucks and so does life now. I will still be salty about that second leg with RM on my deathbed. omg just give Netherlands the world cup pls i.i (ok maybe not the best moment to ask that but still...)
5. whats the story of how you got into this sport!!!
It could be a short story but I’ll make it a long one. I’d love to say “since I was born” but truth is when I was a kid liking football was a ‘boy thing’ (ok, I know my nickname doesn’t give it away but I’m a woman) so, even though I liked Flamengo, many situations made me feel like staying away from local football. World Cup did it for me, it was special, the whole world was involved which was a new concept for me since I had this idea only brazilians liked football (I was a kid, give me a break). I could root for Brazil like crazy and didn’t have to prove anything to anyone, we were all united for those few weeks: every person from any gender would sit in front of the tv and enjoy the sport. WC 1998: the only thing I remember is 7 year-old me watching the semifinal Brazil x Netherlands, hard match, DAMN THAT DUTCH KEEPER WON’T LET US SCORE FFS, went to penalties, Brazil won but I felt so bad for that other team, they did so well, goalkeeper looked dejected and it broke my heart a bit. We lost the final, but hey world cup was awesome, I needed more, but local football was just drama and prejudice so nope, I don’t like football at all. WC 2002: I was there again but omg Korea and Japan?? Time zone was killing me.. Brazil won the World Cup! BEST.FEELING.EVER. pula sai do chão quem é pentacampeão but once it’s over it was again boys feeling superior and shit so nope, hate football. WC 2006: I promised myself I’d watch every match I could.. and I did! I discovered my favourite players aka Fips (captain of my heart, which is a lot considering I’m talking about the sommermärchen era <3) and Van der sar (who happens to be that damn dutch keeper that made my kid self life so difficult.. and it took me a long time to make that link haha). It happened to be VDS last world cup, I had to see more of him, so I learned Spain and Italy weren’t the only ones that had local football (oh my ignorant self), heard manchester united was a thing and ‘boy thing’ or not I didn’t care anymore, I never stopped, mia san mia. 6. how many games a week do you watch (approx.)
Uh, 3, I guess.. it’s Bayern and United mostly but sometimes I get to watch Flamengo too or random matches from PL or BuLi.
7. world cup or copa américa/euro cup?
WORLD CUP !!!! always and forever, I’m definitely a NT person.
8. do you want uefa to rot in hell for how they treated borussia dortmund the latest weeks (yes/yes)
Yes pls and ty.
9. god im running out of ideas hmm… have u played football urself?
Only when I was at school. I tried playing as a goalkeeper (I’ve always appreciated them sfm) but it didn’t work because I was too scared hahah so if I’m not mistaken I was a midfielder back then. Truth is I’m way better at any other sport x.x tagging: @sterndesuedens @rooneyisred @atletiti @immersudkurve @abcde-fc @strettyend (and anyone else that feels like it)

England: Players getting game time - the biggest threat to future
England: Players getting game time - the biggest threat to future
England: Players getting game time – the biggest threat to future
England face Spain in the Nations League and Switzerland in a friendly in their first games since the World Cup
From the outside, England’s international future appears bright.
In the past 15 months, the country’s youth teams – ranging from under-17 to under-21 – have claimed two World Cups, a European Championship and a third successive Toulon Tournament, with the protagonists of these sides some of the most sought-after young players in Europe.
In Russia this summer, the senior side came as close to winning the World Cup as at any time in the past 28 years, utilising a squad with the tournament’s joint average youngest age.
However, in the offices of St George’s Park, there is justifiable concern at what is seen as a growing threat to sustaining this success.
“Our pool [of players] is getting smaller and smaller,” England boss Gareth Southgate told reporters last week, referring to statistics showing that English players have played 30.4% of the 7,200 minutes in the Premier League so far this season, down from 33% in 2017-18.
The late return of England’s World Cup squad after their journey to the last four partly accounts for this, but the percentage is even lower – closer to 20% – at the Premier League’s ‘big six’ clubs, those most likely to expose English players to the pressures of European football.
Bottom of the pile
“There are so many positive things that have contributed to where we are now,” continued Southgate during last week’s news conference.
“But there is still this link between 17 to 21 where the bridge into first-team football and the financial power of the Premier League has a big impact as does the precarious nature of managers in the top flight in particular.
“I think it’s worth us having that debate and getting people around the table to discuss that missing piece. If players are as good as any young players around the world then that opportunity needs to be there.
“If we are encouraging young players about entering academies we are selling them the dream and there’s an ethical element there too.”
Since the start of the 2018-19 campaign, 17 English players under the age of 21 have featured in the Premier League, which represents the lowest number of home-grown players in any of Europe’s top five leagues – those in England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
Granted, the Premier League season is only four games old – hardly a sample size from which to draw cast-iron conclusions – but this is a continuation of a worrying trend.
In 2017-18, 43 English players under the age of 21 featured in the Premier League. No prizes for guessing where this places the English top-flight in comparison to its major European peers.
It is interesting to see France’s Ligue 1 top both of these tables. This factor alone cannot account for such success, but Didier Deschamps’ side’s victory in Russia this summer suggests they are doing something right over the channel.
Under-21 and under-exposed
The England Under-21 side makes for a particularly damning case study, partly explaining why Southgate says he may have to look to those competing in the Championship for future squads.
Theoretically the final testing ground for young English players before they graduate to the seniors, the current Under-21 squad contains 23 players, only six of whom have played with any kind of regularity for a Premier League club this season – Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Everton’s Tom Davies, Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, Leicester’s Ben Chilwell, Demarai Gray and James Maddison.
Players in the Under-21 squad contracted to Premier League clubs have played 1,861 of the 7,560 minutes potentially available to them this season – just 24.62%.
Under-21 manager Aidy Boothroyd echoed Southgate’s sentiments in his assessment of the situation, describing the current statistics as a “massive red flag”.
“If we don’t put this right we’re going to have a chronic situation,” Boothroyd told BBC Sport. “We want the players to play and there seems to be a ceiling of development at the moment.
“I haven’t got the answers, but it certainly is a concern. The governing bodies need to get together and focus on what the long-term problems are, rather than what the short-term is.
“You will always have a certain amount of quality players who will play but there are more who need an opportunity.”
Maddison has impressed while playing 306 of the 360 minutes available this season for Leicester, whom he joined from Championship side Norwich this summer, having previously played in League One as a teenager for Coventry.
“I’ve played a lot of minutes from a young age but everyone has a different route or path,” said the 21-year-old. “We all want to play in the first team and hopefully more English young lads can.
“The Premier League is the toughest league in the world and there is so much money teams can just go and buy players. You have to take it into your own hands. It’s not always easy but that’s what you’ve got to do and if you are given that opportunity you have to take it by the scruff of the neck.”
The solution?
Maddison joined Leicester from Norwich this summer for a fee believed to be about £20m
Maddison is not alone in his belief that hard work and perseverance are the key to gaining first-team opportunities in the Premier League.
“It’s about being patient and waiting for that opportunity to come and when it does you have to take it,” says Kieran Trippier, one of the stars of England’s 2018 World Cup campaign.
“It took a long time for me personally but I was willing to wait. If you look down at the youth, the under-21s, 20s, there are so many good players. They’ve just got to keep learning, improving and be patient.”
The home-grown player rule was designed to promote English talent, ensuring that Premier League clubs must name eight players in their 25-man squad that have been on their books for at least three years before they turn 21 – but there is no stipulation they must be English.
Such a quota-based way of engineering squads could well be influenced by Brexit, although the Premier League are pursuing means to avoid tough regulations on signing European players when Britain leaves the European Union.
In a statement to BBC Sport, a Premier League spokesman said: “Premier League clubs have made significant enhancements to their academies through the implementation of the Elite Player Performance Plan, which has the number one aim of developing better home-grown players.
“Some of their very best young talent, with the benefit of excellent coaching and management from the FA at St George’s Park, have played key roles in recent age group national team successes. The clubs are committed to continuing this approach and strive to develop the best possible players and to pit them with and against some of the best talent from across the world.”
Reece Oxford, Ademola Lookman and Jadon Sancho all made an impression in the Bundesliga last season
An increasing number of young English players clearly believe that the door is closed on home soil and that first-team opportunities are more plentiful elsewhere in Europe.
In addition to the 17 English youngsters to have featured in the Premier League this season, there are four who have appeared for foreign clubs in 2018-19: Ronaldo Vieira at Sampdoria, Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund, Sheyi Ojo, who is on loan at Reims from Liverpool and Patrick Roberts, on loan at Girona from Manchester City.
Reiss Nelson, who made three league appearances for Arsenal last season, is yet to play for Hoffenheim after joining the German club on loan.

Eric Dier, another of England’s senior World Cup players, who began his career in Portugal before returning to this country to join Tottenham in 2014, is supportive of young players moving abroad, but feels the key is to find an environment that is supportive to their development, regardless of location.
“I have only positive things to take from it [living abroad],” Dier told BBC Sport. “It was a fantastic time for me to live there and grow up there and learn football there, it benefitted me in lots of ways and it still benefits me today.
“It’s very difficult for me to speak about different people, everyone has a different take and situations. However, I do feel for a young player the most important thing is to be in an environment where they are supported, where they feel like they will get a lot of game time and learn not be judged all the time on mistakes, because they are going to make mistakes.”
