part 3 :)
warnings: mentions of self harm. nothing graphic. discussions of anxiety. angst + fluff.
You slept better than you had in weeks, curled up against the steady presence of Alexia. When you woke up the next morning, rolling over to find an empty bed, you were torn between feeling hopeful, and feeling embarrassed. You let yourself wake up slowly, enjoying the sun peeking through the curtains. You heard quiet voices talking in the living room, and felt a pang of anxiety, knowing the inevitable conversation would be difficult. You considered rolling over and going back to sleep, but your hand had been out of the brace for too long, and was throbbing painfully.
So, you stood, seeing a sweatshirt of Alexia's folded nicely on the edge of the bed, clearly left for you. It was odd to be taken care of in this way; it felt nice, you felt safe. Carefully tugging the sweatshirt on, you shuffled out into the living room, still groggy. You found your friends lounging with cups of coffee. Mapi and Ingrid were squished in the big armchair together, exhausted, and Alexia was tapping her foot rapidly from the couch, clearly thinking hard.
They all looked up as you entered, sending you kind smiles. Without letting yourself over think it, you plopped down on the couch next to Alexia, leaving a small gap. Your captain closed that gap immediately, wrapping an arm around your shoulders, and pulling you to lean into her.
"Good morning, pequeña. How'd you sleep?" She asked, rubbing a hand up and down your arm.
"Mmm," you responded, giving a thumbs up. You'd just woken up, it was too soon for words. The other girls chuckled. Alexia handed you your brace, having it ready for you, and you put it on carefully. You leaned your head on Alexia's shoulder then, eyes drifting shut again.
Alexia was still kind of surprised at the way you were acting, and if the other girl's faces were any indication, they were too. You were suddenly so willing to seek out the comfort from your friends that you needed. She was glad that you were, but still, worry remained; If you were allowing yourself to accept help, things must be really bad.
You blinked your eyes open after a minute, looking hopefully at Ingrid. "Coffee?" You asked. Ingrid rolled her eyes jokingly, pulling herself out from under Mapi, and heading into the kitchen. Ingrid often suffered from being the person on the team that made the best coffee.
The three of you remained, sitting in a comfortable silence. Ingrid returned quickly, handing you a mug.
"Thank you!" You said, with a smile.
"Anything for you, elskling." Ingrid said quietly, voice heavy with sincerity. You knew she wasn't just talking about making you coffee, and you paled a little, anxiety returning. You trusted your friends, you really did, but you weren't really sure what happened when you were honest with them, when you told them how bad it had gotten.
"Are you ready to talk, y/n?" Mapi asked, speaking for the first time. You nodded hesitantly. There was a long pause, where it seemed like they were waiting for you to say something.
"I'm not really sure where to start." You mumbled, taking a long sip of coffee. Your friends considered, before responding.
"What happened yesterday? When you hurt your hand?" Mapi asked. Alexia felt you tense next to her, and prepared herself for you to close back up.
"I don't really know. I was really upset about the card, and I felt really guilty, I knew you guys would have a hard game down to only 10. I was just... so upset and suddenly I was hitting the concrete." You told then, gaze fixed on the coffee table in front of you.
Mapi took a deep breath. "When you say you felt guilty. Were you trying to hurt yourself?"
You wanted to say no. But lying to them when they had just spent their entire night making sure you were okay felt wrong. Your silence spoke volumes.
"Pequeña, have you ever done anything like that before?" Alexia asked. You couldn't bring yourself to look at her, the pain in her voice almost too much. You knew you wouldn't get away with not responding to this one.
"Yeah." You said, trying to keep it simple and detail free. You felt Alexia inhale a sharp breath next to you, and you knew she was wondering how she missed it. You couldn't let her feel guilty though, not when this wasn't her fault, at all.
"Not often. Only when things are... really bad." You paused, wondering if you should continue. "And I'm really good at hiding it, you wouldn't have any way of knowing." You couldn't meet any of their eyes, instead focusing on the way Mapi's hand intertwined with Ingrid's, holding tightly. You hated that you'd made them upset.
Alexia hadn't spoken again, and you couldn't look at her, worried she was crying. You didn't think you'd be able to take that. Ingrid once again became the voice of reason, pulling herself together enough to ask you another question.
"Y/n," Ingrid began, and you knew what she was going to ask before she spoke. "Can you show us? Or we can leave, and you can show Alexia? We need to know if we need to take care of anything." She spoke soothingly, as if somehow knowing exactly the weight of what she was asking you.
You shook your head, swallowing your tears. "It's just scars right now. There's nothing to see." You told them. There was a hand under your chin, imploring you to look at Alexia. Taking a deep breath, you turned.
"Promise me that there's nothing except scars." Alexia asked. Her eyes were glittering, and even though she spoke harshly, you knew she was just trying to hold it together for you.
"I promise." You said sincerely. Alexia nodded once, taking a deep breath. You turned to look at the other girls then, finding them in similar states. If Alexia didn't cry often, Mapi cried... never. Seeing a few stray tears on her cheeks was jarring. Seeing tears in Ingrid's eyes was rather mundane; the girl cried at sad commercials. But still, present on all of their faces was determination. For what, you weren't really sure.
"Is that what you've been having a hard time with recently? Depression?" Alexia asked. You weren't really sure how to answer. That was part of it, definitely.
"Partly." You said, still trying to gather your thoughts.
"What is the other part?" Alexia insisted. For some reason, talking about your anxiety was harder than talking about being depressed. It felt more personal, so inherently connected to your insecurities. You'd come this far, though.
"I've been really anxious. Since the world cup really. Normally I can block out what everyone says, the pressure from the outside world. I haven't been able to do that recently." You told them, voice starting to shake. You were really tired of crying.
"That sounds really hard, elskling," Ingrid said gently, and you found yourself nodding, a few tears escaping. It HAD been really hard. It was only just hitting you how hard.
"Is that why you haven't been sleeping? You've been too anxious?" Alexia inquired. You nodded.
"Y/n, why didn't you tell us any of this? Why wouldn't you let us help you?" Mapi questioned.
"I don't want you guys to feel like you need to worry about me, or take care of me. I'm an adult, I can handle it myself. You guys have better things to do than sit around and listen to me complain."
"It doesn't really seem like you can handle it yourself, elskling. There's nothing wrong with that though. You're only 20. You don't have to have everything figured out, and you don't need to do everything by yourself. Not when you have people around who care about you, and want to help." Ingrid told you. You really weren't sure if you believed her.
"Look, y/n, obviously this isn't something thats going to fix overnight. But there are a lot of things we can do to get you help. Can you promise me you'll try them?" Alexia asked, ever the planner.
"Yeah. I guess." You responded. Alexia was a little disappointed in your lack of enthusiasm, but Rome wasn't built in a day.
"And, I want you to promise me that when you're having a hard time, you'll try to call one of us. I know that isn't easy for you, but you deserve to be helped when you're hurting, and we want nothing more than to be there for you." Alexia stated. "That goes for anything; if you're hurt, or sick, or sad, or anxious, or feeling like doing something to yourself. You can call any of us, night or day."
"Really? You won't be mad?" You asked, not really letting yourself believe Alexia's words.
Alexia shook her head. "Never. We'll never be mad at you for any of those things. And we'll never be annoyed at you for reaching out to one of us."
"Okay. I can try." You told her, feeling like maybe you could.
"That's all we're asking for, pequeña. Just try for us, okay?" Alexia said. You nodded, wiping at your eyes.
"Thanks, guys." You said, voice barely more than a whisper as you tried to keep it from breaking. Ever one to change the mood, Mapi got up then, jostling Ingrid, and came over to the couch, sprawling across you and Alexia.
"Good. Now I can nap. And keep an eye on you." She said, letting out a contented sigh. You and Alexia tried in vain to push her off of you, laughing. Ingrid rolled her eyes at her girlfriend antics, but came over too, sitting next to you and pressing a kiss to the top of your head. You smiled at her, at all three of them. You felt like, for the first time in a long time, maybe you could do this. Maybe you would be okay. You were going to try at least.

thanks for reading!!!! someone requested r almost getting into a fight and her friends intervening, which didn't really fit into how i wrote the timeline, but if people are into that idea, i could do a oneshot of it. i also might follow this up with r reaching out to each of the girls when she's struggling, because recovery isn't a straight line, and inevitably relapses happen. keep things realistic, + I <3 hurt comfort. let me know if you guys want to see any of this :)

A Little Closer
Tumblr media
pairing: Steve Harrington/Female Reader
summary: There is a time and place to proclaim your love for somebody, and being injured and trapped in the Upside Down is not one of them.
warnings/extra tags: cursing, reader and steve arguing for no reason, and some kissing tm. >>>SPOILERS FOR ST4<<<, not beta read i edited myself but can't be trusted either.
note: I haven't written an imagine for him in a hot minute, and I say this because I have an ongoing series so check out my masterlist ;) Anyway, I wrote this with a dream my friend had about him in mind (she knows who she is). Thanks in advance for reading and please enjoy!
✧ ✧ ✧
You liked Steve Harrington, a lot. And have since you first met in that junk yard years ago when you were introduced to the creatures of this other dimension they called ‘the Upside Down’
Only then you just liked him, because these days you were pretty sure you were hopelessly in love with the guy. This didn’t mean he couldn’t get on your nerves though, especially when he treated you like you incapable of doing literally anything.
"No, you're not going down there."
Steve's voice was firm as he spoke, his words directed at you as you were starting to unbutton your Hawkins Letterman jacket, preparing to dive into Lover’s Lake and see if this gate was down there like Dustin theorized.
"Says who?" You bit back as you were pulling the jacket off, "Robin said Nancy was in charge, not you, Steve."
"Yeah well, I was the co-captain of the swim team and have had life guard certification for 3 years, so logically, it should be me," Steve stated as he too began to undress starting with his shoes all the while Eddie, Nancy, and Robin just watched. You scoffed at him.
"And I was the Captain of the girls swim and water polo team, and have had my certification for 3 and a half years,” you replied, “Can someone tell me which is better?"
They looked awkwardly at each other until Robin began to speak.
"I mean...technically speaking you both had similar responsibilities as a captain and co-captain, but I mean…” her eyes went to Steve who was looking at her with raised brows, “She doesn't have the co in front of hers and didn't have to share responsibility, and uh…her certification beats yours by half a year…so...I would say hers is better."
Steve shot a look at Robin as he was taking off one shoe as fast as he could.
"Gee. Thanks for taking my side Robin," he told her with a scoff while Robin shrugged and claimed she only said so because you asked, "It's just dangerous alright? There could be a gate down there, or worse Vecna could be there- and I don't think you should-"
"Look, out of everyone here I feel like I've been the most useless, and I'm taking the chance to do my part," you explained briefly, "Let me do this because I can do this."
"I know you can, but that doesn't mean you should-"
“And why not? No matter who goes down there the risks are all the same,” you said tearing your t-shirt off now, leaving you in just a tank top and your Hawkins gym shorts.
Steve was untying his other shoe now, trying not to become distracted by your sudden loss of layers, and argued, “Yes, but I don’t want you to take the risk-”
“So anyone but me can?” You gave him an odd look, one that made Steve shake his head quickly.
“No- No I didn’t say-”
"Okay. Are you two seriously going to argue who gets to swim to a possible underwater gate to another dimension where yet another thing is trying to kill us?" Robin was asking, successfully making you and Steve finally go quiet, “Is this a regular occurrence? Arguing over who gets to do risky shit? Because I think this happened last time too.”
She remembered how when coming up with a plan to infiltrate what they thought to be a simple stock room at Starcourt, Steve argued against pretty much any plan that involved you risking your life. Many valuable minutes were wasted with arguments like this with you two going back and forth.
It was almost embarrassing honestly that Steve didn’t realize how into you he actually was or how into him you were because for everyone else on this boat, and on the shore line, it was pretty obvious and has been for quite some time. This was just more evidence of it.
“No, we’re not arguing because we all already decided I’m going,” Steve said, making you laugh and toss your shirt at him before he could even think about taking his other shoe off. It hit his face and momentarily blinded him.
“We decided? No, you decided. Are you implying this needs to be voted on Steve?”
Steve took your shirt in his hands, and looked back at you, “Well maybe it should be- Robin who do you think-”
“I think the one who is already ready to go should go, you still have one shoe on and she does not,” Robin replied quickly as she was shoving the flashlight in the plastic bag Eddie had handed to her.
Steve groaned, “Are you never going to take my side or something Robin? I’m getting hurt over here.”
You were twisting your neck side to side, a pleasant smile on your lips that Robin chose you, but it hadn’t compared to when Nancy finally spoke up.
“Let her do it," Nancy told Steve, then cringed as her eyes went to yours, "Not because I think you're useless or anything, but I've been to enough swim meets for the paper throughout the year to know she's damn good…and she does hold the Hawkins High record for how long she could hold her breath...she can do it, Steve."
It was always nice to have Nancy Wheeler on your side, especially when it was Steve on the opposite side. He always seemed to listen to her and take her words to heart and while other times in this friendship of yours he seemed to drop everything and listen to her it made you feel a tad bit jealous, this time you felt satisfied.
“And like I said, I know she can, better than me, and certainly better than the rest of you, but what if-”
“Dude I’m about to dive down there just so I don’t have to hear you argue for another minute,” Eddie interrupted for the first time since your argument started, “I mean, I’m not going to, of course, but the fact that I was tempted to says a lot. You just gotta trust your girl, Harrington.”
All eyes went to him besides yours at his statement. You kept your gaze trained on Steve, seeing his expression turn from grumpy to confusion then to what you confused with amusement rather than nervousness.
“What? My girl? She isn’t…” he laughed, and you hated how a small part of your heart cracked, “She isn’t my girl, if anything she’s all of our girl-” he cleared his throat as he realized how weird that sounded, “I mean, she’s nobody’s girl, but definitely, definitely not mine-”
Nancy cringed at Steve’s words, and Robin had rolled her eyes for you while Eddie just raised a brow. You were frowning now, turning away from all them after you snatched the flashlight from Robin with a little too much force. Her eyes snapped to yours, being the only one to see your aggravated expression and understanding why.
While Steve’s concern was appreciated and not exactly unwanted, you were starting to get annoyed with him. Sometimes it really felt like when he was with you and the kids…he just saw you as one of the kids he had to keep an eye on and not as… something else.
Well, he didn’t get to tell you what to do, especially now when everyone was on your side and not his. So, without much of a warning, you dived into Lover's Lake.
The splash of the water had captured their attention, especially Steve’s and when he saw you were no longer in the boat. He cursed and looked over the edge and saw nothing but the darkness of the water.
“Dammit! I should’ve known she’d do that!” he said as he gripped the edge of the boat.
Why did you have to be so reckless sometimes? It seriously stresses Steve out, from you throwing him out of the way from that Demodog and getting smacked by it yourself despite it being your first encounter with one to you flirting with the guards at Starcourt and to now jumping into the lake to see if there’s a gate down there. One obviously was more dangerous than the others, but he wished you would just stop.
He was taking his shirt off now, obviously going to dive and swim down after you until someone's hand hit the back of his head just as he got the shirt off.
“Ow, hey-”
“Don’t be dumb, Steve!” Robin told him, “She’s going to be fine. Nance, how long can she hold her breath?”
Nancy answered, and it was more than a minute longer than Steve could, and it was obvious when he sighed.
“See, we’ll just time her and if she doesn’t come back up then you can valiantly dive in there and rescue her, maybe even give her mouth to mouth since you want to kiss her so bad-” Steve’s eyes widened slightly and he scrunched up his nose.
“Woah what? I never said-”
“Please, it’s obvious, so, so obvious that our new pal Eddie here thought you were together.”
Eddie looked at the both of them, "I thought you were like…an overprotective boyfriend or something with how hard you were trying to take her place.”
“Man, what do you know, you barely got here…”
“I’m just saying, man, I don’t think you would’ve fought that hard if it were one of us,” Eddie stated, making Steve scoff because he wouldn’t even hesitate to do the same with Robin and Nancy at least, but it was the fact that you could very well make this dive better than him was enough to prove to them at least that there was something more to it. And maybe a little to Steve too.
“Oh you don’t even know the half of it,” Robin said while Nancy half-smiled in amusement as she looked down at her watch, being sure to keep track of the amount of time you’re down there, “One time she flirted with a secret Russian guard, and lover boy here looked like he was going to explode-”
“What!” Steve’s cheeks were heating up at the mention of that, “We remember that very differently.”
Sure, he was a little annoyed but not because he thought you were trying to hook up with him, because it was risky. It didn’t matter if it kind of worked…and he was a bit jealous...not explosion jealous, but still in the spectrum of jealous.
“And the way they’re always around each other? We had no room on this boat and Steve insisted she come with…”
“Yeah, it is a little exhausting having to keep you two apart to be honest,” Nancy stated, “We could’ve used her at Pennhurst.”
“Hey, that is different, you guys are making it sound like I tell her what to do or something- first, I didn’t want her to be a babysitter again and second- she wanted to stay behind with me when you went to Pennhurst.”
“And I wonder why that was…” Robin hummed. Steve bit the inside of his cheek, not understanding was Robin was getting at, “You like her Steve, just admit it and things will feel better. I swear.”
Steve sighed, “Okay yeah, so I like her, but she isn't into me and I don't see why it's important right now-"
“Oh Steve, I thought you were a pro at this,” Robin said, and he shot her a little look as she grinned back, “I’m just saying, after all this is done, and your only problem is finding the ‘one’ maybe look at her, yeah?”
Steve swallowed a lump of spit, and laughed, “You’re just trying to mess with me so I'll ask her out and you can laugh when she says no.”
“Am I really that cruel?" Robin questioned, but was met with silence, she scoffed and continued to say, "Like I said, just look a little bit closer.”
Robin was finished speaking then, and Steve shook his head in disbelief before deciding to keep asking Nancy how much time had past.
✧ ✧ ✧
You hadn’t resurfaced yet, and the time you usually could hold your breath underwater was inching closer and closer by the second. Steve was getting nervous, eyes flickering all over the lake to see if you had maybe emerged elsewhere.
Already, he was moving to stand, “That’s it, it’s been too long, I’m going down there-”
“Steve-”
Suddenly, you were bursting out of the water with a loud gasp and splashing water all over everyone. Steve nearly fell over as it was where he was about to dive into. You looked up at him as your vision readjusted and saw him staring at you with relief.
And then he started to speak.
“Were you trying to beat your own record down there? Why did it take you so long? Were you sightseeing or something- I was about to swim down there and-”
“It’s there,” you interrupted him before he could blast more questions your way, “I saw it, Dustin’s right- there is a gate right beneath us.”
Steve went quiet, and the other three all shot shocked looks to one another and Robin quickly relayed the information Dustin on the walkie-talkie.
“It’s really down there?” Nancy asked more so in disbelief. You were nodding.
“Is it snack-sized, or like the one we saw at Starcourt?” Robin asked.
“Definitely not as big as that one was, but still pretty big,” you replied breathlessly as you began to climb up. It was Steve who was offering you his hand, and you ignored the fact that he was no longer wearing that yellow long-sleeved shirt that made you forget for a moment you were annoyed with him.
“That’s insane,” Steve was saying as your hands met. He was about to pull you up when he was suddenly jolting forward and nearly falling into the water. Your eyes had met each other, and it dawned on you that something was wrapped tightly around your ankle and pulled.
In one breath you said frantically, “SteveDon’tLetMeG-”
The rest of your sentence was drowned out by water as you were suddenly submerged once again, but this time it was very much against your will. Whatever that was coiled around your ankle was forcefully dragging you back down to the bottom of the lake.
Your hand had unfortunately slipped from Steve's grasp as you were pulled under, and he was calling your name. He didn't think twice, diving in after you while leaving Robin, Nancy and Eddie behind. In fact, Steve went after you so fast that for a moment they thought he was dragged down with you.
“What the hell was that, man! What the hell was that!” Eddie was shouting.
“What do we do?!” Robin shouted moreso at Nancy because she trusted her with decisions more than herself or Eddie. Nancy was already standing at the edge of the boat, ready to dive in after you and Steve.
It was hard not to panic as you were being dragged further and further from the surface. The water of the lake filled your lungs, and you desperately swung your arms upward in an attempt to swim back up, but it was to no avail.
As fast as you were underwater though, before you could possibly drown, you were suddenly gasping loudly and being dragged across rough terrain. You were shouting, water spilling from you lips.
Just seconds after you were pulled through the gate, Steve was coming through it too. His eyes frantically looked around for you until he heard your shouts. He called out to you, already beginning to run as fast as he could toward you.
You called out to him too, "Steve! Help!"
Your hands desperately tried to grab anything that could anchor you, but everything easily slipped from your grasp. It was only when you hit something particularly large the thing let go of you, and the sudden force of the stop caused you to roll a couple of times before you were burrowed in a bunch of sticky vines.
Steve called out your name again as he was by your side. You were too winded to comprehend what exactly had just happened, your eyes blinking rapidly at Steve and your new surroundings.
You were breathing heavily, gazing up at him with wide eyes as his hands grasped shoulders and making you face him. His eyes flickered all over you, making sure you were okay while asking you if you were hurt.
"I-I don't know, what- wait- where are we?" You said between pants as Steve eyes fell back onto yours. You were moving to stand, and Steve helped you.
After catching your breath with Steve’s arm wrapped firmly around you, you finally had taken in your surroundings. It was Lover’s Lake, yes but not your Lover’s Lake, and there were the same dust-like particles floating all around you.
The terrain was covered with the vines, and the sky was permanently cloudy. What really had you staring in awe was the flashes of red in the distance that came with cracks of loud lightning and thunder.
“Steve…are we?”
You looked at him now, and he was staring at the sky too, “Uh yeah…yeah I’m pretty sure.”
You were in the Upside Down.
✧ ✧ ✧
Steve was mad at you, though you couldn't really understand why. Because after he killed that bat-like creature that once had you by the throat by slamming its body repeatedly on the ground, he wasn't mad then, at least at you.
But, now he was and you thought maybe it had something to do with your newly sprained ankle that you were struggling to walk on. You knew the thing that had dragged you all the way down here was to blame for that.
After being dragged into this god forsaken place, these bat creatures had surrounded attacked the both of you. You were so high on adrenaline that you hadn’t even realized you could barely even walk on your ankle until you were able to catch your breath under Skull Rock.
"You shouldn't have dived down here," Steve said with a shake of his head, "It should've been me putting myself in danger. Not you."
You were leaning against Steve, who insisted despite his own injuries that he'd be the one to help you walk on your faulty ankle.
You rolled your eyes, "Again, it doesn't matter! We're all down here now, trapped and with no way of defending ourselves yet. The only way it changes is you being the one dragged and us coming after you."
"You went before we even properly decided who's going to go, at least you wouldn't be hurt or almost strangled to death-"
You huffed and began to try and move away from him, "You know what, I think I'd rather walk by myself."
Steve scoffed at the idea of that, "I'd hand you to Robin before letting you do that."
For some reason, this made you finally snap.
"Steve, seriously, what the hell is your problem? Why do you always treat me like I'm a kid who’s less than capable of doing literally anything? You treat me worse than you treat Dustin, an actual kid," you claimed in an irritated tone.
Steve seemed taken back by your words, stopping the both of you from walking (you limping) any further.
"Woah hey, I don't treat you like a kid-"
"Yeah well it sure feels like it," you interrupted with a deep frown now, "I just don't get it, do you not trust me or something? Is it because I'm a girl? Because you don't treat Nancy like that, or Robin-"
"What? No! It's not because of that, also I thought I made it pretty clear that I do trust you!" Steve argued back to you. You laughed in his face.
"Pretty clear? We wouldn't be having this lovely conversation if it was 'pretty clear' like you claim," you mocked slightly, Steve frowned too then.
"Well...yeah, I thought it was pretty clear how much I trust you and how much I..." he suddenly paused in his sentence, before sucking in a breath and saying, "...care about you, enough to not want you throwing yourself into danger and getting hurt," he explained, you pressed her lips together as you stared at him, "Seriously, you do it all the time-"
"For the same reason you throw yourself into danger all the time!" You exclaimed, this time loud enough for the other three to hear your back and forth, "I care about you too, maybe more than you actually know, so do you think it doesn't...affect me when you throw yourself into these situations too?"
Your voice was shaking slightly as you recalled him getting into a fight with Hargrove when he tried to attack Lucas, or when he was tortured and drugged up by those Russian soldiers. And how, more recently, you had to listen to his shouts of pain of the bats biting and chewing on his sides, being reminded of how helpless you felt.
Steve paused then, and furrowed his eyebrows.
"It does?"
"Yes Steve, it does because you're my friend. In fact, it terrifies me, Steve, when you do that because I'm also absolutely in love with you," You rambled on, "But I still trust you, you know? I trust that you know what you're doing and you'll just be okay. And I really, really wish you'd do the same for me."
Any words Steve was going to say had been wiped from his mind as he took in what you had just said. It seemed that you hadn't even realized what you said as you stared up at him with your eyebrows taunt and eyes meeting his directly.
'I'm also absolutely in love with you'
Steve's breath hitched gently, wondering if he actually hadn't of heard that and he was delirious from the blood loss.
"Shit, seems like he doesn't have to look closer," Robin muttered to both Nancy and Eddie who watched with raised brows that you'd just admitted that out loud.
"Uh hey, I don't think we have time for this-" Nancy called over to you too but was promptly interrupted by the ground beginning to aggressively shake beneath all of you.
Deep rumbles echoed from all around you as the tremors caused you to fall forward onto Steve. He caught you, but ended up falling backwards and hitting the floor with a thud.
You landed right on top of him with a short yelp, hands clenching the denim jacket Eddie let Steve borrow and your face pressed into his bare chest.
Despite the circumstances, Steve couldn't let go of your confession that he was now sure he actually heard you loud and clear. You were in love with him? Did everyone see it but him? You just had always seem to be this untouchable girl to him, even before you became friends, like you were there but never within reach.
When the floor had finally stopped shaking, you looked up to look at him with wide eyes that probably realized you'd just confessed your secret love for him. You looked ashamed, embarrassed even, and he could tell you were already thinking about ways to change what you had just told him before.
Steve realized in this moment you were always within reach, but just like Robin had said...he wasn't looking at you and just assumed you weren't interested when you very much were.
He prided himself in being able to capture the signs someone is into him, even called himself a pro, but clearly that title is wrong if he couldn't even tell if the girl he was in love with as well for almost a year returned his feelings.
"Steve I didn't-"
"It scares me too for the same reason," he suddenly told you. It took you a moment to process what he was getting at, "For the exact same reason."
You tilted your head, about to ask him if he knew what he was saying, but it was cut short by his lips meeting yours. It was a short kiss, but one that took your breath away in the few seconds your lips were touching.
“Are these two serious?” Eddie asked out loud.
“Oh yeah they are. This is not the time!” Nancy called from her spot, but her words fell on deaf ears as you and Steve kissed. Robin scoffed out loud and began to make her way toward her friends who were (finally) in a lip lock.
“Hey! I’m happy for you two to realize you have soft and fuzzy feelings for each other! I really am! But does it have to be right now!?”
Neither of you listened as you kissed, too engrossed with each other and the fact that these feelings you’ve both had for a year were reciprocated. It didn’t matter, at the moment, that you were in the Upside Down and would always remember your first kiss being here of all places.
You kissed him harder, pushing down onto him the way you always dreamed of kissing him and he returned with the same energy.
The kiss was brought abruptly to an end though when someone was grabbing you and making you stand. You blinked a few times in your stupor and saw that it was Robin.
“Like I said, I’m happy for you, but we seriously have to keep moving,” she told you. You looked back at Steve who was being helped up by Eddie. His eyes found yours, and so did a winning smile on his lips.
You laughed softly, still in a bit of a shock of what had just happened. Your fingers went to your lips that still felt tingly from his lips that were on yours.
“I better not wake up in my bed and realize this was just a dream,” you suddenly said to Robin.
She wrapped an arm around you, determined to be the one to help you walk now and replied, “Nope. This is real, we’re trapped in another dimension, and you just kissed Steve Harrington.”
You leaned against Robin now, a laugh escaping your lips.
Meanwhile, Steve was standing on his own, and gently placed a hand over his lips like you had, still feeling like he could feel your lips there and tasting you.
Eddie had cleared his throat, "Now you're really an overprotective boyfriend."
Steve coughed into his hand now as if to hide the fact he was touching his own lips, and stood up more straight. His eyes had found yours again, catching the smile on your lips as Robin helped you turn around and he grinned to himself as well.
He couldn't wait to kiss you again, preferably in your own world and on one of your first dates.

This Is War {Fred Weasley}
Tumblr media
Pairing: Fred Weasley x Fem!Reader
Summary: After Slytherin loses the Quidditch Cup to Gryffindor, (Y/N) decides to get back at them... and at Fred Weasley.
Word count: 5.3k
Read part two here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Look at them," Draco glowers at the group of people flying around the other side above the pitch, moving to stand right across from us. All of them are wearing matching red and gold uniforms, a very distinctive contrast to our (better-looking) green and silver ones. "They think they have a chance against us just because Potter is their Seeker. If you ask me, I've seen Flobberworms moving around faster than him."
The rest of the team laughs. I have the sudden urge to point out the many times Harry's beaten Draco in the past, just to shut them up, but I choose to keep it to myself. After all, we're on the same team, even if I often don't agree with my teammates. Besides, I would never hear the end of it, and the last thing I'd want to do when I'm so close to graduating is to get in trouble with Lucius Malfoy because his son is a whiny baby.
I keep observing the opposite team. All of them have gathered around in their own little broom circle, listening to what one of the three girls is saying. I spot Harry Potter with his back facing us while Ron Weasley stands beside him, looking defeated already.
And standing next to him are his older identical twin brothers. The worst of them all, by far. Those two are just so hard to like. They're careless, and reckless, and love to waste their time coming up with useless little experiments. They specifically have taken quite a liking to pulling pranks on us Slytherins daily, and frankly, It's become very annoying.
Three nights ago, in fact, the Weasley twins and a few other Gryffindors took it too far when they decided to bombard our entire Common Room —and our dorms— with Dungbombs. And three nights later, we're still mad. How they managed to sneak past us and plant all those bombs remains a mystery, but one thing is for sure: they've declared war and we are not backing down. "I'd love nothing more than to see their faces when we win that Quidditch Cup," Adrian Pucey says next to me. "It'd be the perfect way to get back at them for their little prank last time."
The rest of us mutter in agreement. "Well, if we want to do that, then we have to play perfectly today. Considering It's the final game and all," I point out. "That means we can't let them score too many points or catch the Snitch. And that means you'll have to be extra quick today, Draco."
He shoots me a nasty look as if he's disgusted by the fact that I'm telling him what to do. "Thank you for sharing that with us, (Y/L/N)," Graham Montague adverts his attention from Gryffindor and turns to me, the same look on his face. "Unfortunately, I don't remember making you our Co-Captain, so you might want to keep any comments or useless observations to yourself."
I hear snickering behind me but I do not turn around. Being the only girl on the team definitely comes with its cons. Sexism, for example. "I'm certainly doing a better job than our current Captain," I mutter quietly while rolling my eyes.
Down at the pitch, Madam Hooch steps into the center of the field, next to a brown trunk, and blows her whistle, which is somehow heard over the loud cheering from the crowd. Both teams fly closer to each other. Gryffindor shoots daggers at us and, as I take a long look at all of them, I find one of the twins staring directly at me. They're identical but, because of their little 'history' of messing with me and my fellow classmates, I can tell them apart almost naturally. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.
I can tell immediately that it is Fred Weasley who is smiling mockingly at me and a wave of rage runs through me.
Of course, It's Fred. I've discovered throughout the years that, even though both twins are bad enough on their own, Fred is by far the worst of the pair. While George can sometimes know when to stop, Fred does not care nearly as much about crossing the line. I glare at him, hard enough to get him to look away first, but his smile only grows bigger and he winks at me. I finally break eye contact, but only because I want all of my focus to be on the game and not wasted on someone so immature as him.
Once everyone is set, Madam Hooch opens up the trunk and the two Bludgers shoot into the sky, quickly followed by the Golden Snitch. Then, as soon as the Quaffle finally shoots free, the game starts.
It feels like a long match, like an endless cat-and-mouse game as both teams try and catch up to each other. For the longest time, It's a close call between scores, which makes all players —and the public— tense. Lee Jordan's commentary is all over the place throughout the game; one minute, he's excited when Gryffindor is in the lead, and then the next one he's accusing Slytherin of cheating when we take it (which most of the time ends up being true, but I look past it). Despite this, we put up a fairly good fight, and for the first time in so long, it feels like the Quidditch Cup is finally ours.
Unfortunately, we don't put up a good enough fight.
I'm too busy avoiding Bludgers and trying to take the Quaffle away from the opposite team that I nearly jump from my broom when I hear the whistle blowing again. Confused, I halt my flight and look around. I quickly spot Draco in the distance, running a hand through his hair in frustration, and I immediately know what happened.
Harry caught the Snitch. Again.
"Gryffindor wins!" Madam Hooch announces.
A loud wave of cheers erupts from the Gryffindors in the crowd, hugging each other and jumping excitedly at their victory. I groan as the rest of the opposite team lands back on the ground to go and congratulate Harry for the catch. I watch as they smile and pump fists into the air, and I shake my head in disappointment. I really thought we were going to win this time. "Well, I guess we're still the best team, huh?" A voice says and I turn to look at the person.
Fred is the only Gryffindor still mounting a broom, and he doesn't seem to be in any rush to join his teammates. He leans back effortlessly as if he's lying on a couch, with his hands behind his head. I scowl at him. "Shouldn't you be down there celebrating your victory, then, instead of bothering me?"
He shrugs. "I'd much rather be here, watching your defeat from up close."
My nostrils flare and if I had my wand I'd hex him here and there. "Aww, but don't worry," He fake pouts. "There'll be plenty of opportunities to try and win in the next few years. Too bad you won't be here to see it."
He finally flies away with that stupid smug look on his face and it takes everything in me not to throw a Bludger at his head. I try to ignore the fact that his words struck a nerve because he's right. This was my last chance to help win the Quidditch Cup for Slytherin and now It's gone. I missed it.
Shaking the thoughts away, I go to join my sulking teammates, who are all gathering around Draco. "I almost had it. I even touched it with the tip of my fingers," He's saying when I arrive. I have a feeling that that is not at all true. "But then Potter had to come in and ruin everything. I bet that broom of his was charmed with super speed or something."
No one says anything about it. I know they're upset about losing but they would never dare blame Draco for it. "We were so close, though," says Cassius Warrington in a frustrated tone.
"Yeah, and now we've got to think of another way to get back at them," Adrian adds.
As I watch the other team still celebrating, a light bulb turns on above my head. "Don't worry, guys," I reassure them. My wicked smile brings them a sort of comfort. "I think I have a plan to get them back."
***
"Okay, but why do I have to get dragged into this?" Daphne Greengrass, my puzzled best friend, asks as we step out of our dorm and into the dark hallway. "I don't have any beef with Gryffindor, that's your thing."
"Right, but, aside from myself, you're the only person that I trust to do this job," I tell her, quickening my steps down the stairs. "And you're way more tolerable than the others."
"Gee, thanks for that,"
"Plus, the Slytherin team is around the castle keeping watch of any Professors or Prefects or Filch," I add. "And Draco and Blaise have to get the two Gryffindor girls, so we're stuck with the most important task, and we have to do it right."
"Because of course, we are," Daphne rolls her eyes.
"Did you bring the secret ingredients?"
She reaches into her bag and takes out two clear bottles, one with a dark purple liquid in it and the other one with something that almost looks like mud. I smile delightedly. "You have no idea how happy I am that you just happened to have Sleeping Draught and Polyjuice Potion lying around the dorm."
"That's funny because back then, I remember you said that me brewing potions for fun was 'a bit pointless if you have to wait so long to brew them'" Daphne recalls.
I clear my throat uncomfortably. "I do apologize for that. I will never doubt you again."
The plan is simple.
Gryffindor is currently having a party to celebrate their victory at their Common Room. Draco and Blaise Zabini have written a letter addressed to Lavender Brown and Parvati Patil, probably the easiest targets we could get, asking them to meet Michael Corner and Cormac McLaggen at the Courtyard. Pansy Parkinson will charm said letter to fly to the girls; once they get it, Draco and Blaise will put them to sleep, take a strand of hair from each of them, and bring it back to us. We mix the hair with our potion servings, drink the potion, and once we transform we sneak into the Common Room and add a (lot) bit of Sleeping Draught into the drinks. When we've made sure that everyone in the room fell into a deep slumber, we take the Quidditch Cup from them and they'll wake up in the morning with no idea of what happened. It'll look like everyone was just blackout drunk and they lost the Cup because of their irresponsibility.
It's a great plan if you ask me.
"I do have a question, though," Daphne stops walking once we make it to our own Common Room. "Don't we need the password to get into their Common Room?"
I grin and reach into my pocket, holding out a piece of paper in front of her. 'Mimbulus mimbletonia', it reads. "I stole it from that Longbottom kid in Transfiguration earlier," I say. "At first, I figured we'd rely on luck and wait until someone came around to help us, but it was much easier to just take the password from him. Plus, it saves us time."
"Huh," Daphne takes a seat on the nearest chair and folds her arms, impressed. "Good thinking. So, when are Draco and Blaise coming?"
"I'd say they should be here—"
Before I finish my sentence, and as if they've heard us talking about them, the Common Room door opens and both boys walk toward us with triumphant looks on their faces. Draco holds up the small pouch in his hand. "We got them."
"Oh, good," I sigh in relief as they hold out their pouches to us. I take the one in Draco's hand and Daphne takes the other one. I open mine up and a few long dark hairs come out. I can immediately tell that it is Parvati's. "Good job, guys. Daphne?"
She takes out two cups from her bag and hands one to me. Once I take it, she pours the muddy liquid into mine and then onto hers. I glance down at my cup, grimacing when I notice It's bubbling in the most disgusting way. I turn back at Daphne before I can start feeling nauseous. "Ready?"
She gulps, also eyeing her potion, then gives a slow nod.
We each throw our hair into the liquid, which completely consumes it until it is not visible anymore. A few moments pass and my potion begins to shift colors. The muddy brown is completely gone, replaced by a shocking pink that nearly blinds me. I look up at Daphne's portion and hers has turned into... well, lavender. "You don't happen to have an idea of how much these will last, do you?" I ask her.
Daphne smiles weakly. "One can never really tell, am I right?" She raises her glass in front of me. "Bottoms up!"
We both chug down our potion at once. Mine tastes... okay. I don't know why I expected it to taste like shit but It's sweet, although not overpowering. Daphne's doesn't seem to taste too bad, either, seeing as she drinks it with ease.
The bad part comes right after.
I've never consumed Polyjuice Potion before this so I'm not sure exactly what to expect, but I've heard the transformation process is extremely unpleasant so I'm not expecting something good. Once it finally starts, I let go of my cup and I'm crouching on the floor in less than 10 seconds. My insides feel like they're twisting and turning into irreparable knots, and my skin feels like It's burning. I hear Daphne moaning in pain but I don't look up at her. My eyes are glued to the bubbles forming in my hands and arms. I nearly begin to panic but I try to remain calm as my skin begins to darken, my fingers shrinking a bit and turning slightly thinner. A long dark hood begins to take over my vision while I'm still crouched, and it takes me a moment to realize that It's just my hair, which doesn't seem to stop growing. My robes suddenly begin to feel lighter than usual as my body takes the shape of Parvati. The pain stops as suddenly as it started and it leaves me trying to catch my breath. I try to stand up straight again, catching sight of Draco and Blaise's faces first. Both of them look like they've seen a ghost for a moment before their expressions shift into amusement. "Whoa," Blaise mutters. "That was terrifying to watch. But you guys look exactly like them."
I don't say anything as I turn to find Daphne again, but I'm met with Lavender Brown staring at me with wide eyes instead. We both gasp, frozen in our spots. To anyone else, she wouldn't look any different than the real Lavender, but I still find a bit of Daphne in the way she stares at me. "Oh Merlin," she tilts her head. "This is terrifying."
"Tell me about it," I agree while I take one last look at my hands. I grab my hair; It's so long that I have no idea what to do with it. I've never had it this long so it does sort of feel heavy.
"Yes, yes, It's all very impressive," Draco says in a dismissive manner. "But we still have other important things to do."
Even though I hate that he has to be such an asshole all the time, he's right. We cannot lose sight of what's important.
So, Daphne and I go to change clothes and then head to the Gryffindor Tower. It feels like a marathon but we finally stop in front of the Fat Lady's portrait. She eyes us carefully and for a moment I begin to think that she's onto us. I try not to look suspicious and I can sense Daphne doing the same next to me. "Password?"
"Mimbulus mimbletonia." I say without stuttering, trying to seem casual and like It's not my first time sneaking into Gryffindor's Common Room.
She nods and the portrait slowly opens. I almost let out a sigh of relief as we walk in but I'm stopped by the sight of the Common Room. I've never been here before but It's hard to take it all in when there are so many students in it at the same time. Nonetheless, I can tell that It's so much different than Slytherin's Common Room, and not in a good way.
"Okay," Daphne says, but It's barely audible through the loud music playing. "We're here now, there's no turning back. Do you see the drinks anywhere?"
I scan the room a bit longer. I spot the music box in a corner, next to a couple making out against the wall; I spot the Quidditch Cup exhibited on a clear shelf, next to Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley who are talking on the other side of the room; and I do see many people holding cups, which means that we'll probably have to go around slipping Sleeping Draught in all of them.
I finally catch a glimpse of a long table with different kinds of snacks and—
"I see something!" I tell her excitedly and I point to the table, where there are also two huge bowls filled with red and gold liquid, probably charmed to look that way.
Daphne smiles in satisfaction. "Let's get started, shall we?"
"Wait," I stop her. "I think we have to split up."
"Huh?"
"There are people drinking already so maybe you could try and slip some Draught in their drinks while I try to slip it into the bowls first?" I suggest.
She nods. "Right. I'll start on the left side of the room, then."
We divide the potion and part ways, and I start making my way through the crowd until I can't see her anymore. A few people say hi to me and, even though I don't know much about Parvati Patil, I try to act how I've seen her act— bright, outgoing, and a little bit annoying. Luckily, though, no one stops to make conversation so I make an easy escape until I finally reach the table.
I take out the cup that Daphne gave me and I discreetly begin to pour the purple liquid into the cup. Fortunately, it does not change colors. "I see what you're doing," a voice says from behind me and I almost drop the cup.
I turn around, trying to act normal, and then I see that the person talking is none other than Fred Weasley. Out of all people. "What?"
He grins. "You're spiking the punch even more, aren't you? I didn't know you were such a party animal, Parvati."
I almost forget that I look like a whole different person right now. I chuckle and raise my arms. "You're right. You caught me."
"Well, don't let me stop you. Go on ahead. It'll definitely make things a lot more fun around here." Fred winks at me before he walks away and I let out a breath I didn't even realize I was holding.
Aside from that small incident, I don't bump into anyone else. Everyone's already too drunk out of their minds to notice me. It makes it easier for me to slip more Sleeping Draught into people's drinks, and I keep doing it until I find Daphne again and we're certain that we've got everyone. "And now we just wait."
***
It doesn't take long for everyone but Daphne and I to start collapsing from sleep. In fact, it happens very quickly.
Daphne and I are giggling like maniacs as we tiptoe around until we're in front of the silver Quidditch Cup, admiring its beauty for a moment. "I can't believe we actually pulled this off," Daphne says under her breath, her eyes glowing. "We're so cool."
"Told you we could do it," I nudge her side. "Now for the final act..."
I take it in my hands. It feels heavier than I expected but it feels so good to hold it. "What a beauty," I keep admiring it until I'm brought back to my senses. "Okay, now let's get out of here."
We finally make it out of the Common Room and it feels like we've been liberated. Our surroundings begin to feel familiar again. "I'll go let the others know that we have the Cup," Daphne announces excitedly.
"Good idea," I tell her. "I'll go take this to the dungeons."
She nods and we part ways once again. I try to hide the Cup in my bag as much as I can but It's so big that the top part still sticks out, but it will have to do.
If the path to the Gryffindor Tower felt long, this time it feels eternal, especially when the tension of being caught follows me around. I have to be extra careful this time; if anyone sees me I'll get in huge trouble and I don't even want to begin thinking about that. So I have to sneak around and be very aware of my surroundings if I want this to go as planned. It's all up to me now.
When I'm finally sure that I'm outside of the public eye, I turn a corner and let out a shriek as I almost come face-to-face with a tall figure. And of course, It's Fred Weasley again.
Wait...
"H-hey, Fred!" I smile brightly at him. Maybe it comes off a bit too forced but oh well. "What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to check up on you and Lavender, since you guys left in such a hurry," His eyes find my bag and my stomach drops. "What are you doing with the Quidditch Cup?"
"I'm..." I try to think fast but without looking suspicious, and then I realize that I'm most certainly failing at it. "I was just on my way to polish it! And then I was going to bring it back later."
"Were you?" Fred raises an eyebrow and steps closer.
I nod. "Of course! What, you think I'm stealing it or something?"
He's practically hovering over me now and I have to crane my neck to look up at him. He extends a hand out to me. "Why don't you let me help you, then?"
"I'm sure you're probably busy—"
"I have nothing on my schedule right now." He cuts me off. His gaze makes me feel like a criminal. "I'd love to help out."
I shrug. "It shouldn't be too much work, I can do it on my own, really—"
Suddenly, my back is pressed against the stone wall and I'm caged in between both of his arms. I yelp in surprise. Fred's face is awfully close to mine and he's staring at me as if he's trying to figure out my identity. My true identity. "You're not the real Parvati, are you?"
I swallow hard and do the first thing that comes to mind: I take out my wand from my back pocket and point it at him. "Flipendo!"
A yellow light surges out of the tip of my wand and knocks Fred back and away from me. As soon as his back meets the ground I make a run for it.
I have no idea where I'm heading, my vision is far too clouded right now, but I do not look back and I do not stop running. I've forgotten all about being discreet and I've stopped worrying about getting caught by someone else. I'm already in enough trouble as it is.
My feet guide me outside of the castle, and I know that if anyone finds out I'll get detention for at least 2 months, but I don't care as I keep moving. My stomach begins to turn in that weird way again all of a sudden. "Oh no, please, not now," I beg.
Despite the uncomfortable feeling, I'm still running until I reach the dock at the Great Lake. It's barely visible and the water is so dark that it looks like a huge void, but at least no one can see me here. The pain continues for a few moments, and when it finally stops I look at my hands. They look like my hands again. I reach to touch my hair and realize It's not nearly as long anymore. Even if it didn't last long, it feels good to be back to my old self.
"There you are,"
Crap.
I turn slowly to look at Fred, who apparently does not know to mind his own bloody business. His eyes widen in surprise once he sees me but then he shakes his head and smirks. "Well, hello there. I never thought that, out of all people, you would try and pull off something like this," I remain quiet. "I believe you have something that belongs to us." He takes a step closer.
I pretend to ponder. "No, I don't think I do. I think you have the wrong person."
"Oh, silly me, right? I thought you looked different back there," He says then takes out his own wand. "Accio Quidditch Cup!"
The Cup suddenly flies out of the bag, all the way into Fred's hands.
"Give it to me," I run towards him and try to yank the cup from his hands. Unfortunately for me, his grip is way stronger than mine. He raises it above his head, which, given our very distinctive height difference, is impossible for me to reach. I jump while extending my arm as high as possible, but It's useless. He's still looking down at me like I'm an annoying toddler wanting to get his attention. "Weasley!"
"Sorry," He shrugs. "Finder's keepers."
Grumbling curses at him under my breath, I reach for my wand and point it at the cup, using the same Summoning Charm as him. As soon as the cup is back in my hands, I run for it. I hear Fred shouting my name behind me, but I don't turn back. I'm laughing like a maniac as I run to the opposite side when I'm suddenly stopped in my tracks. For a second, I cannot move. It's like an invisible force is restricting my entire body. And then I'm yanked back by said force until I'm back in my previous spot, right in front of Fred. He snatches the cup from me and grins. "Thank you, kind lady. Oh, and I'll be taking this, too."
He snatches my wand from my hand and begins to run away. My first instinct is to jump on his back, ignoring his protests as I try to reach for my wand first. He manages to shake me off before I can do so, but I don't give up. I'm still trying to reach for him, for anything, but between all that wrestling, I slip from the dock and fall into the freezing water. When I emerge, my whole body is shivering and my teeth are chattering uncontrollably. I look back at the dock and Fred is still standing there, his mouth open as he stares at me in shock. And then he bursts out laughing. "You'll p-pay for this!" I shout at him but he just keeps laughing.
I hear something behind me— it almost sounds like a waterfall. But as I turn around I don't see anything of the sort.
Instead, I see a tentacle. A huge tentacle coming at me from the water.
The color drains from my face, I'm sure, and I let out a loud scream. I scream so loud that I don't hear anything else. I think Fred is shouting something, and I'm not sure if It's at me or at the giant squid, but I don't find out. I shut my eyes close but my body is frozen in place. I can't move. It might be the fear, it might be the cold, it might even be both, but I can't move a muscle.
What a terrible way to die this is.
"(Y/N)," Fred calls from the dock but I can barely hear him. My heartbeats are too fast and too loud. "It's okay, It's gone! Just swim back to shore."
I'm too busy hyperventilating to listen to him. I was just face-to-face with a giant squid— a bloody giant squid. My mind is not processing anything at the moment and all I can feel is panic, still.
I hear a splash of water nearby and a pair of arms suddenly sneak around me below the water. A small gasp escapes my lips as Fred's face appears right of mine. As if by instinct, I wrap my arms around his neck. It's the closest we've ever been. "Look at me," he says but I don't need him to. I'm already getting lost in the soothingness of his eyes. "You're okay. Nothing or no one will hurt you as long as I'm here, okay?"
I nod wordlessly. I'm still shaking uncontrollably and I probably look like a mess right now. "I'm going to get us back to shore now," He informs carefully. "Is that okay with you?"
"Y-yes, please."
As soon as I give him the green light, he picks me up bridal style and begins to swim back to shore.
We get to land safe and sound, just as he had promised. I feel a huge sense of relief the moment my feet touch land, but my arms do not let go of him and his hands are still on my waist. When I turn to face him, he's already looking down at me. "See?" he says with a chuckle. His voice is soft and comforting. "It's all good now. You have nothing to worry about."
For a moment, I seem to forget that the boy standing in front of me is the boy that I've hated for all these years. I forget all the pranks he pulled on me and my housemates, all the times he enraged and mocked me. I forget about all of that and I don't know what comes over me but I lean up and I kiss him.
I can tell that Fred is surprised by how he freezes as soon as our lips touch, but once he composes himself, he responds. He pulls me closer and tightens his grip around me, which is probably the moment that I start losing my grip on reality. A wave of warmth washes through me and it feels... nice. Especially after going out for a midnight swim. His lips feel soft against mine and It's nearly impossible to stay away from them. My hands grip his hair and he lets out a low grunt against my mouth. The sound is sinful. It makes me want more of him.
We pull away after a while, though, and none of us say anything. My eyes flutter open almost at the same time as his, and for a moment It's like a sort of dream where nothing is real.
But of course, he has to ruin it.
"Wow," Fred's dazed smile widens. "What a nice way to say 'Thank you for saving my life'."
I blink a few times and it takes a moment to snap out of my trance, and when I do I am mortified. When I finally come to all my senses, I unwrap my arms from his neck and push him away. As soon as he lets go, I start to look for my wand. I finally find it lying next to the Cup but I don't even bother to grab that. It was a mistake to even try and steal it. It has already caused way too much unnecessary drama.
Plus, I just kissed Fred fucking Weasley.
My clothes are sticking to my skin and I'm still dripping from head to toe, which just adds to my distress, but I don't let it stop me as I run back to the castle. I hear Fred calling after me but I don't turn to look back at him. I am way too embarrassed and frustrated at myself to do so.

“So far, no casualties reported. But also, no injured, but the numbers will probably show up once everyone has been accounted for.”--Megatron
Rodimus looks a bit miffed.
“What about communications within the ship?”--Rodimus
“They are still in repairs Rodimus.”--Magnus
Rodimus looks even more sulky.
Drift notices this.
“Rodimus?”--Drift
“Hmm?”--Rodimus
“Do you want to go see Buddy?”--Drift
“…Probably not the best idea so far. Anyways they’d try and kick my tailpipe if I tried to see them with the crew still in disarray, not to mention they still need to report the damages and injured. They are probably with Perceptor too.”--Rodimus
Drift nods knowingly, but a bit proud of how much Rodimus has started taking his responsibilities as Co-captain over his significant other.
Primus knows what Drift would have done if he didn’t get a chance to go see Ratchet right after the attack.
Perceptor in the meantime had a sinking feeling as he helped with the ship’s internal repairs.
Something was wrong.
Something was very, very wrong and he couldn’t lay his digit on it.
“How about we take you to Swerve’s for a drink? Or even go see Buddy?”--Brainstorm
Perceptor shakes his helm.
“There’s still much to do, not to mention communications are still down and Buddy still hasn’t reported back the injured or if there were any casualties—”--Perceptor
“But this is about something else.”--Brianstorm
“…I do not know how to explain it Brainstorm. But something horrible has happened and I don’t know what it is.”--Perceptor
Brainstorm pats Perceptor’s back in sympathy.
“We just came back from an invasion of part of the DJD, I think that having your nerves still winded up is justifiable. Let’s just go to Swerve’s to get some of the edge off. Anyways the diagnostics still need time to work, which leaves us plenty of time to drink.”--Brainstorm
“…One drink.”--Perceptor
Brainstorm pats his back a bit more enthusiastically.
“Well then, let’s go!”--Brainstorm
Brainstorm and Perceptor walk to Swerve’s.
“How much you want to bet that Buddy is clinging onto Rodimus?”--Brainstorm
“Brainstorm!”--Perceptor
“Perceptor!”--Brainstorm
By the time Perceptor made it to Swerve’s he saw Rodimus chatting with Drift and Ratchet.
The scene felt wrong without Buddy standing by Rodimus.
Where was Buddy?
Maybe they were somewhere else in the bar? Or getting some drinks for them and Rodimus?
The feeling in his tanks didn’t go away with the drink.
Brainstorm noticed too as he saw him constantly looking around.
Rodimus looked puzzled when he finally saw the two scientists at the bar.
Where was Buddy?
“Perceptor?”--Rodimus
Perceptor turns to see Rodimus with Drift and Ratchet behind him.
“Where’s Buddy?”--Perceptor
“Buddy? I thought they were with you?”--Rodimus
“I thought they were with you?”--Perceptor
“Somethings not right.”--Drift
“It isn’t. And Buddy’s at the center of it.”--Ratchet
“How?”--Brainstorm
“Buddy was supposed to send in the injury report an hour ago. They still haven’t done that yet. They aren’t usually this late either, extremely punctual.”--Ratchet
“…Do you think something…”--Drift
Perceptor and Rodimus share a worried look.
“Rodimus! Perceptor!”--Nautica
Nautica, Whirl, and Swerve part their way through the crowd looking worried.
“You might want to look at this. Its Buddy.”—Swerve
“And you’re not gonna like it. Jumpy’s gone.”--Whirl
It isn’t until they see the CCTV footage that they realize what happened to Buddy.
One of the members of the DJD had overwhelmed them and had taken them to their ship.
Buddy had been kidnapped.
It was all servos on deck to try and locate them.
Rodimus made sure that every resource was being used to find Buddy. On the outside he was much more steely than usual, he was on a mission that he was not going to fail.
On the inside, however, he was a mess.
How long had Buddy been missing and he hadn’t noticed?
He didn’t even go visit them to see if they were okay!
What kind of partner was he!?
Rodimus vows to make it up to Buddy when they find them.
They will find them.
Perceptor had holed himself in the lab making sure every single scanner was working to their full potential.
He didn’t look too indifferent from the outside.
But his closest friends could tell otherwise.
He was overdoing things again and the nervous shake in his servos was noticeable.
Brainstorm did have to talk him into taking a break before he blew a gasket.
Percy just wanted his younger sibling back.
But knowing the survival rate of anyone caught by the DJD…
He knew that he needed to prepare… in case…
They eventually locked in on Buddy’s energon signature.
The Lost Light eventually found a sole damaged escape pod.
That’s where Buddy’s energon signature was coming from.
Rodimus and Perceptor quickly banded into a small team to get inside the pod.
Rodimus melted the door ripping it off its hinges.
Perceptor quickly ran inside.
He found Buddy lying motionless on the ground in front of the control panels. They were heavily injured.
Perceptor drops his rifle when he sees Buddy.
“Buddy?”--Perceptor
“…”--Buddy
Perceptor falls to his knees and quickly looks for any sign of a spark pulse.
He’s nearly stops when he doesn’t feel anything.
“RATCHET! SOMEONE! I CAN’T—”--Perceptor
Ratchet and First Aid come racing in.
Perceptor gets pulled away from Buddy by Brainstorm.
His optics don’t leave Buddy’s body even as it gets covered by Ratchet’s.
Rodimus is being held back by Drift who looks equally distraught.
“Perceptor! Perceptor what—”--Rodimus
“CLEAR!”--Ratchet
Rodimus nearly drops when he hears the sound of the energy pulse.
“No…no…no…”--Rodimus
“CLEAR!”--Ratchet
Perceptor starts shaking a bit in Brainstorm’s hold.
Brainstorm is trying hard not to shake too as he squeezes Perceptor closer.
“BUDDY YOU ARE NOT LEAVING US HEAR WITH RODIMUS UNSUSPERVISED. CLEAR!”--Ratchet
“WE GOT A PULSE! WE GOT A PULSE!”—First Aid
Drift had to physically hold up Rodimus while Brainstorm held a fainted Perceptor in his arms.
Buddy was quickly admitted into the med bay as patient number one.
When Perceptor came back, Rodimus, Drift and Brainstorm told him what the medics thought of what happened.
From the looks of the other injuries, it was clear they had been in a torture session. There were clear signs of burns, melted metal and tears in the armor.
But by some miracle they made it into an escape pod.
The suspicion from the medics was that as soon as Buddy had finally gotten out of the DJD’s radar, their spark gave out.
They had that spark attack that they warned everyone they would have one day.
They were going to be out for a while.
Percy couldn’t bear to stay in the med bay after seeing their state.
Rodimus had no problem with it and promised to let him know if anything happened to Buddy’s health.
For once Perceptor was glad to not receive anything from Rodimus.
Many bots had come to visit Buddy in the med bay even to leave bits of inner most energon.
They were one of the lucky ones to have survived the DJD in relatively one piece.
It wouldn’t be until a few weeks that Rodimus would comm Perceptor in.
Buddy was finally awake.
Perceptor bursting into the med bay.
“Perceptor—”--Ambulon
“Where are they?”--Perceptor
Velocity points to the far end of the med bay.
“They are in one of the private rooms.”--Velocity
Perceptor speed walks over and opens the door.
Buddy was there.
They were crying, frame shaking a bit holding onto Rodimus servo like a lifeline while burrying part of their face into his neck cables.
Rodimus was doing his best to not cry and soothe them.
“Oh Roddy, Roddy, Roddy. My Roddy…”--Buddy
“Shhh… its okay now… you’re safe now…”--Rodimus
“My Roddy…”--Buddy
“Buddy?”--Perceptor
Buddy slowly peaks out of Rodimus neck cables and bursts into another wave of tears.
“Percy?”--Buddy
Perceptor quickly moves to the other side of the berth and holds their servo gently in his.
“Oh Buddy…”--Perceptor
“…Your servos are shaking Percy.”--Buddy
Perceptor gives them a watery smile and presses their servo on the side of his faceplate.
“First time for everything correct?”--Perceptor
Buddy smiles weakly.
They gently rub their thumb on their big brother’s cheek.
“I’m really safe? Or did I not make it?”--Buddy
Rodimus squeezes their servo a bit.
“You’re safe. You made it. You’re home.”--Rodimus

Chapter 3: Imelda Reyes
Sebastian had hardly slept last night, plagued with thoughts of undeserving Gryffindor boys and pretty Ravenclaw girls wooing his new friend.  Sitting in the Great hall, Sebastian's head felt sluggish from the lack of sleep.  He stared at this breakfast in bleak silence, silently begging for his pastries to tell him the answers he desperately needed.
"What crawled up Sebastian's ass and died?" Imelda asked, cutting through the dark swirling thoughts in Sebastian's head.
Ominis wished for the millionth time this week to have a quiet and peaceful breakfast in the Great Hall.  "Oh nothing, just Sebastian pining after his crush and not plucking up the courage to do anything about it."  He sighed quite dramatically.  "And yet, somehow, everyone around him must suffer."
Sebastian's head snapped up from its daze.  He glared at his best friend, who pointedly ignored him in favor of spreading more berry preserve on his toast.  "Ominis!  I'm not even interested in her!"  He denied.  "She's just a good friend."
Imelda waved her hand dismissively.  "Don't worry, Sallow.  It's not like your massive crush on her is any news." She shoved the poor lower year student sitting next to Sebastian off the bench, making herself room at the table.  "You'd have to be blind to not see how whipped you are for her."  She cringed.  "Um…sorry, Ominis."
Ominis rolled his eyes.  Typical Imelda, as tactful as an elephant.  "She's right you know.  Practically everyone in Hogwarts knows you follow her around like a puppy.  If you don't claim what's yours fast, some bloke else would."
Under normal circumstances, Ominis's words would have set Sebastian off.  No one needed Ominis of all people to remind him of how "available" she was.  Merlin knows, she already spent an alarming amount of time alone with the other boy.   But now, with her recent date, Sebastian certainly had more on his plate to worry about.  He scoffed remembering Natty's words from the night before.   "And now, I have reason to worry about girls.  Rumors say that she might bat for both teams, and frankly, I have no idea if it's true."
"Does she now?" Imelda whispered.
Sebastian stared in horror as Imelda started grinning, her eyes gaining a predatory gleam.  How could he be so stupid to let something like that slip out?  He knew better.  Imelda played with girls' hearts like a she was a world class beater and their hearts were bludgers.
Even without any divination, he could see exactly where this was going.  "Don't you dare."  Sebastian warned.  Never, in a million years, would Sebastian consider Imelda a friend.  But there was honor even amongst Slytherins a code.
Surely, Imelda wouldn't cross the line and take what was rightfully Sebastian's?
Imelda's smile was toothy like a savage wolf eager for a meal.  "Oh, she would be perfect.  She's the only one amongst you sorry lot who comes anywhere close to my skills on a broom.  Yes, I think we shall make the most powerful couple in Hogwarts.  And after graduation, we'd make co-captains on whatever professional quidditch team we'd find ourselves.  Our manor would be decorated with our quidditch trophies right above the little ones' rooms.  Of course we'd have at least seven of them."
"Seven pets?" Sebastian asked weakly.
She scoffed.  "No children.  At least seven children: strong, and fast, and powerful like their mothers.  Enough to make a quidditch team.  We'd train them of course.  Together we would create a new quidditch dynasty that would rival the Pride of Portree, no doubt."
Sebastian was at a loss for words.  Imelda was loony.  He couldn't tell if Imelda was simply pulling at his leg or actually threating him.  "What makes you even think she would be interested in someone like you?  Merlin, your ego enough would scare anyone away."
Imelda sniffed, turning her nose up at Sebastian.  "It's simple, really.  Power.  The new girl is attracted to power.  She would be stupid to turn someone like me down."
Sebastian's stomach soured.  Did she think Sebastian was powerful enough to stand by her side?  "As if."
"What?  Scared of some competition, Sallow?  Afraid that the only bachelorette worth pursuing in Hogwarts will be attracted to the best flyer in Hogwarts?"  Sebastian spluttered in protest.  "Early Seeker catches the snitch.  One night with me on the quidditch field, and she'll be like a Kneazle purring in my lap."
His hands clenched into tight fists.  Of course, Imelda would be the one Slytherin evil enough to violate the House code.  How did he lose control of the situation so fast?  "You snake.  You wouldn't dare."
She raised one dark eyebrow, "Watch me, Sallow."  She whipped her tight ponytail around, eyes scanning the Great Hall.  "Oi!  New girl!"
Sebastian's head snapped up, frantically searching for his partner in crime.  Surely, she wasn't easy enough to fall for Imelda Reyes.
The poor victim in question was trying her best to enjoy a quiet breakfast.  She flinched at Imelda's shrill voice, ducking as if hoping the Slytherin quidditch captain wouldn't notice her.  Her eyes widening when the two girls accidentally locked eyes.  Imelda, with her nose in the air, took strong strides across the Grand Hall.  Arriving at her destination, the other students at the table suddenly grew deadly quiet, as if the flock of prey were suddenly alerted of a predator's presence.
She sighed into her porridge, "Reyes, is there something I can help you with-"
Imelda slammed her hand on the table next to the poor girl's goblet, causing all the silverware to jump to attention.  She leaned over, boxing Sebastian's best friend in with her long arms.  "Tonight.  7pm.  Meet me at the Quidditch fields.  Bring a broom."
The whole table erupted in chatter.  The tendrils of Hogwarts gossip already working their magic.  To Sebastian's horror, his crush's face erupted in patches of bright pink, as she tried to back away from Imelda's advances.  "Imelda, I would love to, but I already promised Sebast-"
The Slytherin scoffed.  "Enough of him.  What's he going to do?  Show you some dusty old book from three centuries ago?  I'm going to show you a night you will never forgot."
Sebastian jumped to his feet, wand in hand. His pumpkin juice spilled over his trousers, soaking into the fabric.
The hero of Hogwarts was stunned into silence.  Imelda was constantly on her case about "moving on" from Sebastian, but she'd never imagined that the Quidditch Captain would be the one to proposition the pining girl herself.
Natty's advice rang through her mind.  Sebastian had made it abundantly clear that he wasn't interested in her romantically.  It had hurt, to realize that the flirty looks, the indecent causal touches, the intense words, were all the same Sebastian charm that he laid on everyone.  The hero of Hogwarts was no different to him than any other girl.  She had just been too infatuated to see it.
Maybe all her friends were right.  It was time she stop sulking like a children.  It was their sixth year, they weren't getting any younger.  It was time to start courting other people, to live a little.
What was the worst thing that could happen?
Sebastian narrowed his eyes, trying to look at his best friend from across the Great Hall. Her cheeks, so prone to blushing, was now a familiar scarlet.  A weight as heavy as a stone dropped into his stomach as he watched the hero of Hogwarts tuck the loose strands of hair behind her ears, a telltale sign.  Surely….she wouldn't agree to a date with Imelda Reyes of all people, a cackling hag who had nothing better to do than steal other people's soon to be girlfriend?
He saw how she squirmed nervously, unused to the intensity of Imelda's piercing gaze.  "Um well..I'm sure Sebastian won't mind if I push off one night.  We spend so much of our time-"
"-Excellent." Imelda clicked her tongue.  "I'm so looking forward to seeing you on the field.  Come prepared."
With the last foreboding warning, Imelda turned around, completely unbothered at all the other students staring at her bold advances.  She strode back to the Slytherin table with the same expression plastered on her face as her winning the House Cup. Imelda plopped herself right next to Sebastian, snatching a cold piece of toast from Sebastian's plate.
"And that, my dear Housemate, is how Slytherins get what they want."
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆
“Sebastian!”
Sebastian walked away from the entrance of the Great Hall even faster.  Maybe if he pretended he couldn’t hear her, his crush would just eventually give up.
A sharp tug on the back of his robes made Sebastian stop in his tracks.  Reluctantly, he turned to look at her.
Her cheeks were ruddy with exertion, giving her face a natural blush.  She looked rather flustered, an expression that has been on her face too much of late.
She panted.  It took a lot of energy to chase after Sebastian, almost as if he was actively trying to avoid him. “Sebastian, I won't be able to meet you in the library tonight.  Imelda invited me to some late night quidditch practice.
His lips curled.  'Late night quidditch practice'.  Oh it would certainly be late all right, but Sebastian had very little faith that they would be practicing "quidditch".
Sebastian's throat was too tight.  He felt nauseous.  "Oh great, Ominis.  Me.  Imelda.  You just seem to bounce from Slytherin to Slytherin, I see."
She flinched at his words.  Her voice turned icy.  "I mean, we study every night together Sebastian.  It's not like missing one night is a big deal."
A hot wave of embarrassment settled in his stomach.  He was an absolute idiot for hoping for anything different.  Their nightly study sessions were the highlight of Sebastian's day.  The candles in the library always seems to frame her beautiful portrait so nicely in the lights and shadows.  Whenever she was stuck on a particularly difficult essay, she would nibble on the tip of her quill, an adorably bad habit that Sebastian had grown quite fond of.  He always saved his fun stories, cute little puns, and teasing for the very end of the day.  On the days that seemed particularly stressed, Sebastian would transfigure some parchment in a flying crane, that would peck at her cheeks incessantly until she started giggling.  Sometimes they would play a game, in which Sebastian would do everything within his power to absolutely distract her from her studies.  Other times, there would just be soft comfortable silence as the two close friends read in the dying candlelight.  Eventually, one of them, usually her, would nod off silently into their textbook, and the other (usually Sebastian) would summon a blanket to drape over their cold shoulders.
His parents were the same.  Constantly up all night curled on their plush sofas, holding each other's hands as they read their ancient tomes before putting Sebastian and Anne to sleep.  It was some of the last remaining memories Sebastian had of them before they died.
He thought what they had together was something similar.  Clearly, Sebastian was wrong.  How could he be so foolish getting so attached to that clearly meant so little to her?
"Well, have fun getting your heart crushed.  Don't come crying to me whenever Reyes dumps you."
Sebastian turned his back to her before he could see the look of utter devastation on her face.

Hang on. May I ask what Hush’s pronouns are ? Because I used she/her in my last ask (I’m still giggling like a school girl because of your answer it was so cute), but in another one I saw your refer to the demon as a « big brother figure », so I’m a bit confused and afraid I made a mistake… ?
To make this ask a little more worthwhile, I somehow imagined demon Price scolding the other demons the same way Captain Price would scold his team when they mess up something or do nonsense ? You know, I’m picturing the frown, the crossed arms, the military stance and the gruff voice. And the team looking at their demons and snickering when seeing how their Captain and his demon are so similar to each other sometimes.
Hush prefers he/him but all the demons will respond to any pronouns, and I will answer asks regardless of pronouns for them. So, no mistakes! I haven't had pronouns specified for anyone but Threat, and Hush hasn't had much written for him!
As for Price(the demon) scolding the rest of the demons, I agree, I think it happens more often than anyone would like to admit. But they also end up scolding the rest of the 141 with Capt. Price since the demons are technically their handler's responsibility. I think in the field it sounds a lot like 2 different comms channels talking through each other lol
"How's the perimeter?" Soap asks, checking out from behind cover.
"Holding," You hum, "Hey do you know what Price is yelling about?" Soap makes a face.
"Which one?" Soap pushes off the wall to sweep the room. You listen for a moment to the demonic yelling, muffling Soap's steps as you do.
"Both of them," You conclude. It sounds like both of them. Your commanding officers both markedly upset over something that you don't really have the patience to parse. You're busy making sure your charge stays alive long enough to make it to the demo point.
"Dunno," Soap says after a moment, you snap your silence around Soap's gun as he fires, no reason to give up position over one unlucky soldier, "Maybe someone did somethin'."
"That doesn't narrow it down. Someone's always done something," You tell him.
"Could be marital problems," Soap jokes. Now that's an idea. One you're happy to jump on.
"Mom and Dad are fighting," You laugh, shaking sound from the shadows to get a feel for who's nearby. Clear for the moment, and your silence is holding strong. Price is still yelling at you of the little connection you've established between yourself and your demonic companions. The human Price sounds like he's reflecting her annoyance over Soap's comms. Two halves of the same conversation neither of you are paying attention to.
"Alright I've got another one," Soap keeps his gun high as he slinks through the empty corridor.
"Hit me." You like this game, Soap's jokes aren't exactly high comedy but they're certainly entertaining.
"What do you call kids in the military?" He sweeps around a corner, and starts down a flight of stairs.
"No clue."
"Infantry-" You snort "-Got that one from Ghost," Soap smiles stopping at the tunnel entrance. Allegedly blowing this point should send the rest of it speeding towards collapse. Something about structural integrity that you weren't listening to. Soap knows what he's doing, you trust him.
He shoulders his bag off and sets it on the ground, quick to start pulling out wires and switches. You're passed a pair of wire strippers as Soap's movements start getting more purposeful. His brow furrows, he stops, leans back to look at what he's already pulled, then goes back to the bag.
"Fuck me," Soap groans digging through his bag, "we forgot the C4." You stare down at the open bag, the yelling from your COs suddenly making a lot more sense.
"Huh." You eloquently sum up. Soap sits back on his heels. He makes a face, looking down the tunnel as he thinks. You're not sure what to do to help, this isn't exactly your area of expertise. Soap drums his fingers against the canvas.
"Where's-" He starts, rethinks, and looks at you, "Where's the sound go when you do your magic stuff?"
"It doesn't go anywhere?" You raise a brow, it's not some crazy magic, more scientific than anything else. Soap stares at you, waiting for an explanation. You sigh. "I stop the sound waves from happening or compress them down enough they're barely audible. It's the same with people, I either compress the parts that move or their air supply, but I'm not physically stealing sound." You explain, "That would be crazy."
"Right that'd be way more mental than what you just said," Soap gives you a sarcastic sort of nod. He looks back at the dead detonators and switches and grabs a handful of wires. "New plan," He tells you, "I'm going to make a noise, you're going to make it bigger."
"Not really how I work," You frown, crouching next to him. He takes the wire strippers from you, already building his noise maker.
"What do you mean? You compress sound one way, I'd bet you can bump it up the other. Just need the waves big enough to cause some damage." Soap frowns twisting two wires together. You don't know, you don't think he's wrong but you've never made sound louder. No one's ever wanted things louder.
You don't have time to run a trial run, but you suppose the pressure of an active combat zone is as good a time as any to experiment. You've done stupider things. You can't think of any right now but you're sure there must be something stupider you've done.
Soap glances at you, for being the king of quiet you don't usually go this long without talking. That's one of the reasons you get along so well, the banter just keeps going. He looks back at his work, if you're quiet he's sure it's for a good reason. Now, he doesn't know for sure that his science is sound, but the fact that you're giving it any consideration is enough for him. It at least buys Soap a little time to try and come up with something else. Maybe he should radio Price, see if his demon can send over some black powder.
"Ok," you tell him just as he gets the sound grenade hooked up, "Let's try it. Sub-sonic, super-sonic, it's all sound right?"
"Close enough," Soap grins. He tosses you a spare switch and watches you click it a few times. The sound stutters, raising and plummeting just as quickly. You wince, click it a few more times with similar results. "If it doesn't work we tell Price and take the lecture," He assures you. If it doesn't work you'll both be fighting your way out with a lot of explaining to do.
"Ready?" He asks, setting the timer on the only idea either of you have come up with. You nod and hold your hands out.
"You might wanna get behind me in case this goes south fast." Soap nods, and tosses the makeshift noise machine into the tunnel. He tries not to think too much about how badly this could all shake out if this doesn't work as he takes cover.
It takes a moment the soft beep of the count down timer fluctuating as you grit your teeth and try to do whatever it is you're doing. You understand this stuff better than Soap, or he fucking hopes you do. Because if you don't you're both fucked. One of the beeps pitches low, but it shakes the dirt. Your eyes widen, your lips moving with silent calculations.
"Hey, uh, might want to plug your ears Mactavish," You suggest over your shoulder. Soap is quick to snap his hands over his ears as the rolling wave of beeps gets bone quaking. The tone bouncing low and growing ever louder, reminding him of the shitty bass in that one tech song Gaz likes.
Everything goes quiet. Then the noise rushes in, explodes from the little beeper like a proper bomb. Buffeting the tunnel in a way that almost looks like the Jerry-rigged switch broke the sound barrier. Soap's never heard anything like it, and honestly he hopes he never has to again. It does the job though, shaking loose anything that could've been called a tunnel until it collapses in on itself. Even with the buffer of his hands there's a ringing in Soap's ears that doesn't bode well. You turn to grin at him, and when you speak it sounds like you're underwater.
But who cares when you grab his face and kiss him. A quick excited thing before you're shaking him by his shoulders. Were you always that warm? Were the callouses on your hands always that soft? Did you always smile so wide?
Your eyes dart towards the stairs and you tug at him to get his gun up. "We have to go!" You yell, near enough to his ear that he can mostly parse it.
"I think you shattered my eardrums," He yells, picking off the first soldier to come down the stairs to investigate. Later, he'll ask about the kiss later. For now you both have a job to do.

Modern!Aegon Targaryen × Reader
Summary: hockey and figure skating, hockey player and figure skater. Their world were always meant to be collided.
Warnings: fluff, Aegon being a massive dick.
Disclaimer: English is not my first language so bear with me. Un-edited.
Tumblr media
PART ONE.
People always say she has a bright future ahead of her, not including her parents. They think it's a waste of time, something she shouldn't even waste a single second.
"Hey," Someone called out to her as she entered the cafeteria, trying to look for her friends. She nodded her head at the girl in acknowledgment before seating down at her table.
"What's up, little miss captain?" Aly greeted and beside her is Helaena "Hey," she looked up and pressed their cheeks together.
"What's your plan, this weekend?" Helaena asked, "I have practice on Saturday, and on Sunday, I'm on my work." She answered.
"Can we watch you practice?" Aly asked. she shrugged her shoulders, quite unsure if she wants them there considering they might make loud noises "As long as you won't be loud." She told her.
Helaena laughs, earning a glare from Aly "Sure, no problemo." Aly answered, nodding politely.
Aly is part of the volleyball team while Helaena wasn't really into sports and would rather watch her two best friends on the bench and cheer for them. She and Aly tried to convince Helaena to try out for the soccer team cause they knew how much Helaena loves soccer but she refuses.
They've been friends since they were seven graders and refuse to part ways. They've met each other's parents, each other's siblings and have been into each other's places. She didn't invite Helaena and Aly into her first in a few years of their friendship because of two things. First, her parents then because she lived in the trailer.
But, when she was junior, she manages to get a job and because of that, she manages to move out of the hell she was born into. She almost quit her skating because she doesn't have the time to practice and compete. After all, she was too preoccupied with her studies and working to feed and sustain herself.
But, luckily, she didn't.
Figure skating is her life, she might be as good as dead if she quit.
When she moved out, she forget that she has parents and lived independently. She has Aly and Helaena, they are her family and so is their family. Though, she wasn't really fond of Helaena's older brother.
He always wants to annoy the shit out of her and is always being a dick he is.
It was finally Saturday and it was time for her to practice or else she won't be able to complete and her coach would kill her if she doesn't.
She was laughing with Helaena and Aly about something as entered the indoor ice rink but stopped as soon as she saw hockey players in it.
The hockey team stopped, noticing the three newly arrived girls. Someone familiar whistled among them as he skates towards them.
"What the hell are you doing here?" She asked as she approached the hockey team
"I set an appointment for this day so this ring is mine today." She spat at the hockey's captain, Aegon Targaryen, Helaena's older brother.
"I don't see any name of you in here." Aegon answered and the rest of the hockey team snickered before she gave them all a glare "Targaryen, be mature enough for god's sake, you're the captain." She snapped at him angrily.
"Aegon, just leave." Helaena told her brother as she rolled her eyes. Aegon seemed to listen and look back at his team before nodding his head "Okay." Aegon said.
She rolled her eyes at him before bumping into his shoulder as she walked past him to enter the ring
"Aly, the music, please." She told her friend as she got into her position and checked the laces of her ice skates. When she looked up, the team is still there and Aegon is still looking at her, only they were in the audience's seat.
"What are you still doing here?" She asked bluntly "Is it bad to watch? I'm sure you don't own the seats, too." Aegon said, hands on his chest. She scoffed at his cockiness and got into her position again before hearing her song playing in the background.
She did the basic moves first. The simplest, the toe loop as her warm-up. Then, the axel which is very simple to do for her. She heard them clap but wasn't sure who and she hated it. She hated it when someone claps because it's get her somehow distracted when the clapping gave her a good feeling.
She spun around the ice rink, moving her body along with the rhythm of the music.
She did her Biellman spin, the one she tried to teach her best friends to do, the one that made Alys throw up.
After that, she did the jump combination to her routine before doing the hard ones, and rather complicated. When the song finished, she strike her pose, breathless.
"You're good." Aegon complemented, standing up from his seat as she approached Aly and Helaena.
"I've always been good and the best." She rolled her eyes at him before putting her arms on Aly and Helaena's shoulders and leaving him smirking to himself.
"He's such a dick." She complained to them and groaned to herself.
"He's Aegon, it's normal." Helaena chuckled because she's already used to her brother's attitude because of having to live with him most of her life "How can I forget? Your older brother's head is screwed." She burst into laughter as she shakes her head so is Helaena.

I love your analysis SO much!!!! You're so smart (Dani too obviously). I never thought about the friendship of Vincent and August but now I can't get them out of my head. Well and now I'm wondering if you could do a similar analysis for Nils and Vincent 👉👈 no pressure tho
HELLO! We would love to give you our thoughts about Nils and Vincent. As avid Nilcent shippers, we have thought about this a lot. And by that I mean that I, Zee, am a Nilcent shipper and I have dragged Dani down to the pits of hell by my side. ANYWAY:
Nils and Vincent are so interesting as a dynamic. Like we're not kidding, there is so much to dissect with this one.
On a surface level, they act in the opposite way you would think they should. Nils is very much the cookie cutter, stereotypical image of wealth, and Vincent is more loose with it. But the more you dive into it, the more it makes sense.
Nils is careful because he is comparatively nouveau riche. He can't break any rules. His entire reputation hangs in the balance, and reputation is all you have when you're on the status level of Nils. That's why he stays pretty quiet, that's why he stays in the closet, that's why he's seemingly a follower.
Vincent, by comparison, is far less careful. He knows the rules. He has memorized every single one so well that they just play in the back of his mind, warped and kind of bended from how much they have been drilled in. He isn't actively thinking about them because he doesn't have to.
And this key difference between the two of them reflects in everything down to the way they dress. Nils is always dressed up. He always looks nice. He's always ready to be seen and observed. Vincent experiments. He plays more with bright colors and jewelry (like his chunky necklaces) and he isn't always read to be seen (like in s1e2 when he's in a bathrobe).
Dani's point: As far as dress and conduct go, they seem like the opposite of what they are and it is kind of exactly what happens the longer someone stays around money.
But then when we get down into the nitty gritty of their dynamic, it get's stranger. Because this relationships is fundamentally unequal based on status alone, and yet they don't seem to be using each other all that much.
Vincent uses Nils in the August-take down and throughout season two as has right hand, but Nils seems a ready and willing participant. There isn't much that feels forced about their positions in season two.
However, this doesn't come without a caveat. We do actively see Vincent look down on Nils.
Zee's observation: something something the actor being shorter was an interesting and important choice because he's being looked down on both physically and metaphorically something something.
In season one, Vincent talks about how he and The Society are allowed to be in the club, but Nils isn't because he is nouveau riche. And then in season two, when Nils asks to be co-captain of the rowing team, Vincent tells him no.
But Nils is far more qualified for that position. In fact, Vincent isn't even on the rowing team in the first season. Nils is. Vincent gained his new position based on status, even though Nils is in every sense the better option.
It's the Wizard of Oz: don't look behind the curtain. Vincent is the big talking head and Nils is the man talking into the microphone.
Despite all of this, they do actually just like each other. It is an active choice for them to hang out with each other. It is an active choice for them to go on that vacation together in between seasons, and to overthrow August together, and to just hang out whenever they can. No one is forcing them to do that.
If this was a status thing, Nils would be looking for higher conquests, and Vincent would not be wasting his time "slumming it" with nouveau riche boys. They choose each other.
They repeatedly prove that they trust each other too. And, in Vincent's case, he repeatedly shows Nils that he can be trusted. It isn't blind faith, Vincent actively demonstrates that he is worthy of Nils' trust.
In season two, Nils says he thinks Vincent knows about him being gay, but it’s not something they really talk about. One would think that would freak him out, but it doesn’t. Because he trusts Vincent to keep that secret safe.
It’s proven time and time again that Vincent is trustworthy with that secret. Not only Nils’ sexuality, but also Wille’s. He shows Nils that he’s trustworthy by not talking about other people like that. When the video comes out, Vincent’s only thought/comment is about who made the video, not who is in it, and he consistently looks past Wilmon being around each other in favor of minding his own business. That all proves to Nils that Vincent can be trusted with his sexuality.
But chicken or the egg: which came first?
Did Vincent figure out Nils’ sexuality and then become nonchalant about those things? Or was he already nonchalant about it and then figure out Nils? Is Vincent fruity too?
In comparison to August and Vincent, who have the worst kind of friendship, Vincent and Nils might just have the best kind of friendship. It isn't simply blind faith and a business transaction. August blindly trusts Vincent with all of his secrets, but Nils knows his secrets are safe.
Beyond the Nilcent ship, Nils and Vincent are just in this, like, near-perfect friendship. It's really very strange.
Y'all literally ask us more. We'll do it. We'll analyze the shit out of this show.

Doctor Who, but Chronologically: 41
Well. Holy shit.
It's 1955, and hot on the heels of the incredibly socially important episode about Partition, we get one of the greatest episodes this show has ever produced: Rosa, co-written by Malorie Blackman.
(Funnily enough, once again, this dumbest of watch orders has triumphed - this close to Demons in the Punjab, you feel emotionally prepped for Rosa. "Ah yes," you think. "A much-needed and blindingly important historical episode that educates white British people in race relations. One of the functions of Doctor Who."
You still aren't ready.)
I mean this without hyperbole: of every episode, book, comic, radio show, and everything else Doctor Who has ever produced or had a hand in, this one makes you feel the imminent danger to the companions the most, and on a level that none other ever has. We get Whittaker, Ryan, Yaz and Graham back as they all go to Montgomery Alabama, the day before Rosa Parks stages her sit-in protest, and sweet Christ on a stick they do not pull their punches in making every single white person into a raging cunt of epic proportions. They do not shy away from stressing that Ryan could be lynched at literally any time and it would be legally sanctioned. They are not coy about citing the real-life murder of Emmett Till - murdered for daring to speak to a white woman - within seven minutes of the opening credits, after a white man physically assaults Ryan and snarls that he will have him "swinging from a tree with a rope for a kerchief, boy".
It is visceral and shocking and completely out of the normal tone of this show. Part way through, Ryan chooses to go off alone because his spine is apparently made of fecking titanium, and I honestly don't think I relaxed for the rest of the episode (although it leads to a fantastic scene of him meeting the leaders of the civil rights movement, including Martin Luther King Jr, and I really mean that it is FANTASTIC). I've watched companions be menaced by everything from statues to large pepper pots to fucking Bertie Botts; I've seen them trapped in drifting spaceships, partially turned into birds and fish, stuck in the Blitz, slaughtered in the Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve, melted, possessed, infected, mutilated, and threatened with compulsory roller derby membership. I have seen it all and then some. Some I have seen in more than one iteration.
This is the only episode where I have been genuinely frightened for one. I've aged, Tumblrs. 73, I am now. Wizened.
Anyway. You know the story of Rosa Parks sitting on the bus and refusing to give her seat to white people. This episode does cover that, but it does so through the medium of an awful time travelling neo-Nazi, complete with Richard Spencer haircut, who has been released from intergalactic prison Stormfront Stormcage and decided to use a vortex manipulator like Captain Jack's to come to 1955 and stop the Montgomery Bus Boycott from happening. There's a nasty scene where he tells Ryan he's doing it to stop Ryan's "kind" from "rising above their station", so when I say he's a neo-Nazi, I am not pissing about, and nor was this show. (Ryan shoots him with a time gun in the end that sends him to a prehistoric past trololol enjoy that, conservative, you people love The Past)
The TARDIS team spend the episode trying to nudge history back into place so the protest can happen. It's genius, really - super simple sci-fi plot, so the focus can be on the social issues. There's a beautiful conversation between Ryan and Yaz about the way they both still face racism in the present day, and the way Ryan has to constantly police his emotions and faces police discrimination even now; but, also about the nature of social change, and the importance of looking forwards and fighting the good fight. There's also a great scene when they first get on a bus - Ryan is forced to sit at the back, but Yaz doesn't know where to sit. The driver lets her on at the front, but she's not white - so which box do they want her in? "Does 'coloured' just mean black in the 1950s?" she asks, having been accused twice of being 'Mexican'. It's a subtle performance, but the indecision of it - guessing if she's endangering herself or not - is shown to be genuinely distressing.
God, fuck, this is such a good episode. It's absurdly good. They fit so much in 42 minutes, while still making it a Doctor Who episode and yet not shirking on any of the fundamental issues. And the writing is still deftly done - there's a dry humour that they intersperse throughout as a palate cleanser that never undoes the impact of the social stuff, like some stupid MCU LOL NOT REALLY bit of obnoxious bathos; instead it's a foil for the serious stuff, making it that bit more impactful. And! A rare Sexy Lamp Test pass for all three companions! That does not often happen in Chibnell's run, so shout out there.
Anyway. ANYWAY. I could honestly write a whole scene by scene breakdown of this episode complete with citations and explain in exquisite detail how much I love it, punctuated with "We laughed at this bit, and then cried at this bit, and threw shoes at the screen at this bit" but uhhhh, that is not the point of this project. So I shall stop.
Plot threads! Any answers? Not really. A few things we've seen before though, like the vortex manipulator, that was fun.
And apparently there's a big prison called Stormcage that puts anti-violence implants into its inmates' heads before release! That's fun. Good to know that policy.
“She” (an unknown person) is returning (perhaps River returned as Missy. Maybe Me? Maybe Clara???!)
There is something on Donna’s back
An entire planet, Pyrovilia, just… disappeared, somehow. (Maybe because the TARDIS is exploding??? Saturnine was also lost, and that WAS because of the TARDIS exploding. The lion man’s planet was also lost but he was a bit of a knob about it if I’m honest. The Thijarian planet was destroyed by some sort of impact)
Amy is maybe dead (she’s not)
The Doctor has been cubed (he’s out, but how?)
River is possibly blown up  (unless she’s Missy. Nope: she is definitely not blown up)
The TARDIS has blown up  (It’s fine now. Except it’s sort of melting now because it’s corrupted, but it’s fine again)
The universe appears to have ended  (the universe is back again)
The Doctor has employed(?) Nardole
(And Nardole was “reassembled???” Nardole had glass nipples and invisible hair?? WHAT THE FUCK IS HE)
There’s a vault in the TARDIS and it contains Missy but we don’t know why (sometimes she knocks for the bants)
There’s an immortal Viking girl now. Her name is Me and she’s now looking after the people the Doctor abandons
Why was Rory entirely unconcerned by the entire world suddenly going silent when that is Not Normal and should have been, at the very least, extremely disconcerting?
What did the Doctor do to Queen Lizzie One?
Why is Amy seeing a one-eyed woman in a vanishing window? (She’s with the Silents, but we don’t know why Amy saw her)
Why is Amy’s pregnancy inconclusive? (Maybe because the baby had Time Lord DNA?)
Who is Sarah-Jane Smith?
How is the Doctor Bill’s teacher and why/where does he have an office?
What is going on with the Cyber War and the Cyberium???
What happened with the Other Cyber War?
What happened with the Third War that deleted the void?
Why does Rose seem particularly important?
What order do these Doctors go in? (Eccleston, Tennant, uncertain, Smith, Capaldi, Whittaker)
Which companion just… forgot the Doctor, and how?
Yaz and Vinder are about to die as Mori/Mwri/Muuri
There is a Lupari shield around Earth.
What’s a Time War?
What’s the Rift?
What’s Bad Wolf?
In which war did the Doctor become a war criminal, and how?
Who is the Master?
Why has Amy forgotten Rory? How did she forget a Dalek invasion?
Is Rory plastic or not?
Why is the Doctor sulking on a cloud?
How exactly does the Doctor have a cloud?
What exactly happened with Strax to, uh, tame him?
Which friend killed Strax?
Which friend brought Strax back?
Where did this lesbian lizard and human couple come from?
What happened with Clara as Souffle Girl and the Daleks?
How does Clara actually join?
Why so many Claras?
Why is Missy apparently in robo-heaven?
Why is probably!Missy pushing Clara and the Doctor together?
What is Trensilor and what happened there?
Who is Handles?
The Doctor is about to be dissolved by a beautiful geode man
The universe is being crushed by the Flux
Will the Doctor open the fobwatch?
Sontarans are invading Earth again
Who is Kate?
Who is Osgood? Another name of Clara’s again?
The fuck is the deal with the Grand Serpent
Does Martha get to go to an ice cream planet with 12-fingered massage aliens?
How did the Doctor forget Clara?
Who is Bill’s puddle girlfriend Heather?
How did Nardole die?
When does Bill get Cyberman-ed and die?
When does the Doctor shrink and enter a Dalek called Rusty?
Whittaker is falling to her death rn
Was that ring relevant?
Does anyone know the Doctor’s name?
When did Yaz talk to Dan about fancying the Doctor?
When did Dan talk to the Doctor about fancying Yaz?
What’s happening with the bees?
What happened with Donna’s ex and a giant spider?
What war wiped out the Daleks, and is it one of the ones already mentioned?
What did the Doctor mean when he said “The (Daleks) always live, while I lose everything?”
If Dalek Caan is the last Dalek left why are there more now?
How did the rest of the Time Lords die?
How and why did Amy melt?

Why does the Doctor feel guilt about Rose, Martha and Donna?
What happened with the space whale?
When does Rory defend Amy for 2000 years?
How does the Doctor survive River
How does he erase himself from history
Did Captain Jack lose his memories to the same people as the Doctor? What did he lose?
When did the Doctor send the Daleks into a void to save the universe?
What’s with the weird crack in the wall and is it affecting memories?
Why do Amy and Rory think the Doctor is dead?
Is Matt Smith’s Doctor a tree racist?

Days of Open Hand - A woman with extraordinary abilities realizes she knows very little about life, the universe, and everything when she is rescued by a group of metahumans led by a particularly captivating team captain.
Sundae Surprise - This is totally PWP; I make no apologies for the ensuing smut. It is short and very sweet.

I think I may have already sent this request before but I can’t remember. Sorry if I already did I couldn’t remember. Please take your time and don’t rush yourself I can wait ❤️
Could you please write an Eddie Munson x reader. The reader is Eddie’s girlfriend. Please do angst and fluff.
The reader gets injured (bit) the same way Eleven does in season 3 and same wound except this takes place in season 4 episode 7 where Eddie, Nancy, Steve and Robin are fighting the bats. At the end of the fight one of the tentacles grabs and bites the readers leg and Eddie is the first one to grab onto the reader as she is lifted into the air by her leg the same way Eleven was. Eddie, Steve, Nancy, and Robin are all fighting to get the reader down and finally do but the reader is severely wounded and losing a lot of blood. Eddie carries the reader as they all rush to get to safety as they try to hide in the upside down and just like Eleven they have to cut her leg open to get what’s inside her leg out. Once they do the reader passes out from blood loss and Eddie carries her as they all rush to Eddie’s trailer to get out of the upside down. Once they get the gate open Eddie helps get the reader through the gate as she is still passed out. They are able to get her through the gate and are able to tend to her leg. When the reader wakes up Eddie is sitting right next to her holding her hand and tells reader he thought he lost her. Eddie and the reader comfort each other over the events that just happened and fall asleep cuddling each other.

Author's Note: Thank you for your patience and for trusting me with your request. This isn't nearly as polished as I'd like it to be but I don't want to keep you waiting. I changed the demobat lore along with other details from Ep 7 to better fit the circumstances. This was my first time writing anything Upside Down related, I hope I did your vision justice!
Established relationship. No use of Y/N. Moderate angst with comfort. Loosely based on events from S3 and S4.
Word count: 5k
Warnings: GORE: descriptions of physical injury (of the reader), heartache, includes swearing.

This isn’t how you planned to spend your Wednesday night. Initially, you were going to pick up an extra shift at the arcade. Instead, you’re perched on the bench of a shabby rowboat with your boyfriend seated beside you.
On the opposite bench, Nancy is sandwiched between Steve and Robin. The three of them are staring fixedly at the compass’s twirling needle. Robin relays the discovery to Dustin and Steve gets to his feet.
Nancy eyes Steve’s towering frame. “What are you doing?”
The boat bobs with the movement of Steve taking off his shoes, socks, and sweater. “I’m gonna go check it out.”
You look between him and Nancy with a furrowed brow. “Have you lost your mind? You can’t-”
“Unless any of you can top being a swim team co-captain and a certified lifeguard for three years, then it’s gotta be me.” He reasons to no one in particular.
Eddie is unbothered and shows no interest in out-doing Steve’s courageousness. “No complaints from me. I do not wanna go down there.” He angles his flashlight over the gunwale but the beam fails to penetrate the onyx-hued water.
His comment is met with a single jab of your elbow into his side. Eddie groans and shoots you a scowl, “Ow, what the hell was that for?” He scans the disapproving glare that’s formed across the features of your face.
With preparative breathing exercises, Steve primes his lungs and observes the murkiness that awaits him. The heat radiating from his unclothed chest clashes with the evening air and it sends a shiver to his core.
“There’s no way you’re gonna be able to see anything.” Eddie wraps the flashlight in a plastic shopping bag that he pulled from his jacket pocket. “It won’t be waterproof but-” He secures it with a tight knot and holds the flashlight out to Steve. “It’ll do.”
“Thanks,” Steve exhales. He pauses before filling his lungs with a half-hearted prayer. “Wish me luck.” With that, he leaps with a pointed form and plunges beneath the surface of the lake.
Droplets land on your arm and it gives you an idea of how frigid the water is. The four of you sit in utter silence. Unlike them, you’re oblivious to how the boat is rocking from the bouncing of your leg. “He’s taking forever. What if something bad happened?”
Eddie doesn’t dare face you because he knows exactly what kind of look his remark is going to earn him. “It’s been thirty seconds, I’m sure King Steve is just fine. You heard him, he’s a certified lifeguard.” He mockingly emphasizes with hand quotes as if to say “big whoop.”
Eddie is the only one who can’t grasp the gravity of what’s happening right now. He’s unable to wrap his head around what you’ve gone through with your friends over the past two years. He has a general idea because you’ve tried to explain everything to him before, but he couldn’t make sense of it. Dustin attempted to translate the circumstances through the lens of D&D but Eddie couldn’t piece it together.
He spends so much of his free time in fictional worlds that he creates. Each realm is accompanied by sketches of fantastical creatures with a myriad of thorough narratives. Despite seeing the forces at hand with his own eyes, he can’t fathom that this is reality.
Seconds tick by with the lapping waves of Lover’s Lake. It’s nearing two minutes since Steve left. Robin nudges your leg as a silent ask for you to sit still, but It’s difficult to stop fidgeting.
Eddie wraps his arms around you and guides you to his shoulder. He buries his nose in your hair and basks in the familiar scent of your shampoo. “You’re alright.”
You may be okay though he’s doubtful that Steve is. Eddie not only saw Chrissy and Patrick levitate, but he heard their limbs snap like twigs with every contortion. At this rate anything is possible.
In addition to the traumatic shit he’s witnessed, Eddie isn’t exactly in tip-top shape. He hasn’t gotten a good night's rest in days, nor has he had a proper meal. He’s beyond miserable, and yet, he’s prioritizing your needs. He can’t do much given the situation at hand, but Eddie is doing his best to help you feel safe.
Eddie’s supportive words duke it out with your perturbed thoughts. His attempt is insufficient but it calms your nerves a little. Much to your dismay, your heart rate spikes with each bated breath that you take.
Robin remains focused on the navigation device, watching it spin endlessly in reaction to the gate below. Nancy is counting the seconds on her wristwatch. They haven’t spoken since Steve took the dive. The chirping of the crickets and frogs off in the distance fails to saturate the quiet.
Because you’ve been asked not to bounce your leg, you opt for picking at the shredded denim of Eddie’s jeans instead. To distract yourself further, you zero in on the rise and fall of his chest beneath the tattered Hellfire Club tee. Your focus is disrupted by a harsh gasp and splashing.
Upon seeing that Steve is alive, your muscles are freed of tension but your stomach is in knots nonetheless. “Did you find it?”
“Yeah, it’s down there.” Steve pants as his lungs struggle to expand. His tight grip on the ridge of the boat causes it to dip. Nancy slicks back the soaked hair that’s plastered to his forehead and they share a look of unease.
Robin is less worried. “Is it a snack-sized gate?” She chirps curiously.
Steve tries to catch his breath. Beads fall from his hair and trickle down his face. “No, no. It’s pretty damn big.”
A beat passes while everyone digests his findings and it conjures varying images in all of your minds. Suddenly, Steve is tugged down. Though not hard enough to rip his hands from the rim of the boat, it’s enough to spook him. Steve peers over his shoulder and just as his eyes meet yours, he’s abruptly yanked under.
A cacophony of his name sounds off. You and Nancy lean over and look down as if you’d be able to see anything. Robin is appropriately panicked now.
Eddie shouts and points to where Steve disappeared. “What the hell was that, man?!”
Nancy doesn’t hesitate to forgo a discussion and jumps in after him. Robin is close behind, less gracefully but just as hastily.
Eddie is too busy cussing to realize that you’re taking off your jacket. When he notices, his heart drops. “Woah woah woah, what do you think you’re doing? You’re not going down there.”
“Yes I am, he needs me!” You steady yourself near the ledge. With a deep breath, you mentally prepare for the drastic contrast between the sticky summer air and the cold lake.
Eddie grabs your hand firmly. “Absolutely not! You’re staying here with me. We don’t even know what we’re messing with!” He attempts to draw you closer but you don’t budge.
You turn to face Eddie and your gaze trails from where your hands are joined until your glassy eyes meet his widened ones. “Whatever it is, it has Steve and it’ll kill him.”
Bewildered is the only way to describe the look on Eddie’s face. He doesn’t care about Steve, he cares about you. Eddie is so fucking exhausted and the tide of adrenaline is wearing him thin.
After everything you and your friends have been through, there’s an inseparable bond and you vowed to fend for them by all means necessary. For the number of times that Steve has saved your life, you owe him this much.
The tremble of Eddie’s grasp is unmistakable. You stroke his fingers with your thumb to comfort him. “Stay here and wait here for me. I love you.” You pack your lungs with as much air as they’ll allow and let go of his hand.
When you leap off of the boat, Eddie reaches to grab you but he doesn’t act fast enough. He paces with short strides to work up the courage to go after you. “God dammit, this is such bullshit!” After pulling an exaggerated inhale through his mouth, he jumps into the lake.
After climbing through the sticky crimson fissure at the bottom of the lake, you manage to recover in good time from holding your breath. You take in the new surroundings but you’re unable to ignore how irritated your eyes are from the mossy water.
Smoke-like fog hangs in the air with such humidity that it’s as though you’re still underwater. The air smells like rotten wood and white ash floats to the ground from the fire in the sky that roars behind the dense clouds. Another crack of blazed lightning strikes mere seconds after the last and is followed by booming thunder. The area is rather desolate, bearing little to dampen the thunder’s ferocity.
The distant echo of struggling gets your attention. Despite being nearly 50 feet away, you bolt to Robin and Nancy’s assistance. You snatch up an oar that you spot by the vine-wrapped boat. Robin stomps on the tail of the demobat that’s strangling Steve. Nancy bludgeons it with all of her might and you swat away the two that are flying overhead with the objective of getting a taste of Steve.
Your shoulders pop with each swing of the oar. It’s as though the curse words that are tumbling from your lips are fueling you to whack the flesh-eating demons. Nancy and Robin are making equally as much noise with their grunting and shouting.
Meanwhile, Eddie floats above the gate. He’s stunned by the appearance of the glowing portal. He wasn’t sure what to expect but this wasn’t what he’d pictured. Though time is ticking and he doesn’t have long to inspect it because the tightness in his chest is rapidly worsening. He paddles forward and crawls through the gate.
One of the demobats swoops close enough that you’re able to snag it and impale it with the broken end of your oar. In doing so, you slam it to the ground and relish the way it’s squealing and flapping its wings.
Eddie heaves dramatically but in his defense, he can’t recall the last time he went swimming so his lungs are far from used to the pressure.
These creatures are damn hard to kill, but Nancy and Robin finally slay the demobat that had Steve in a chokehold. He stumbles to his knees and releases a heart-rending wheeze. You’re all relieved that Steve is unscathed. He’s beyond grateful to have fearless pals because he’d certainly be bat food by now if you hadn’t come to his rescue.
The environment is momentarily quiet so the four of you pause to catch your breath. The strenuous exertion produces a pang in your side. Just as your breathing is nearly restored, a slimy tail snakes around your throat like a noose. Before you can process it, you’re being hoisted up and slammed back down onto the cracked earth. A shriek escapes you before the tail tautens like a boa constrictor, effectively obstructing your airway. Eddie scrambles to his feet. He sprints faster than he’s ever run in his life.
Your friends’ reactions are delayed compared to Eddie’s due to being caught off guard but he has plenty of ground to cover. Of the three bats circling overhead, one of them descends from the sky and lands beside you. It latches onto your leg by sinking its razor-sharp teeth into the meat of your calf. A scream bubbles from your throat but it has nowhere to go.
With her blood-spattered oar, Nancy stabs at the demobat that’s choking you to death. The tail around your neck won’t let up. You claw at it but your fingernails are no match for the leathery skin. Simultaneously, you’re struggling to shake the other bat off by flailing but to no avail.
Steve grabs ahold of the tail belonging to the bat feasting on your leg. Although he’s far too weak to be of much help, Steve is giving it his all. Robin swings her oar to keep the last remaining creature at bay. Every time it flies closer to get a piece of you, Robin cracks it with the paddle as if she’s batting for a home run.
Your lungs are no longer receiving oxygen and deprivation of it causes black spots to bloom in your vision. It’s occurring to you that this is how you’re going to die. With that realization, the strength to flail and claw leaves your body, causing your limbs to go limp.
Eddie arrives just in time. He snags your abandoned weapon off the ground on his way to you. All of the pent-up fear and suffering from the last few days pours out of him in the form of a battle cry while he impales the head of the bat that has your neck. The demobat’s hellish grip releases and your airway is freed of the compression.
Steve and Nancy successfully detach the other bat from your leg, though it takes a bit of your flesh with it. Robin scans the area to make certain that the coast is clear. Luckily, the sky is free of any winged threats for the time being.
Before today, Eddie thought the idea of slaying monsters was thrilling but he feels differently now that he knows what it’s like.
Everyone surrounds you and Eddie falls to his knees. As he lifts your head, he can feel major swelling in the spot where your skull had hit the ground after being thrown down. “Baby, can you hear me?”
You lay stationary as your body acclimates to the renewed supply of oxygen. Your brain kicks into gear and your eyelids open a sliver. The low-lit environment looks smudged and out of focus. The rings around your throat are pronounced as blood fills the area. Now that you’re conscious, your vision is the first of your five senses to fully return. You see Eddie hovering over you. “Am I okay?” You ask breathily.
“Yeah, you’re okay. You’re gonna be just fine.” He reassures while stroking your cheekbone with his dirtied thumb. Eddie is struggling to catch his breath but he’s far more troubled by the state that you’re in.
“I wanna go home,” You whimper with a wobbly lower lip. You blink away the tears that are pooling at your lash line, afraid of losing sight of Eddie.
His heart cracks in half because he’s always been protective of you. Eddie’s biggest fear has come to fruition. For the duration of your relationship, a specific worry loomed over him. He constantly feared that something bad would happen to you for simply being associated with him and that’s exactly what happened. You got dragged into this mess to defend his name.
Screeching and yapping from behind the clouds indicates that another swarm of demobats is growing near.
Steve urges, “We gotta get out of here. It’s not safe.” He surmises that the bats are being drawn by the scent of the fresh blood trickling from the punctures in your calf.
Eddie lifts you off of the ground bridal style and frowns at your grimace of pain. “Don’t worry, I’ve got you.” He shifts your position in his arms so that your head rests comfortably against his shoulder.
Tumblr media
After trudging through the leafless woods for quite some time, the group collectively agrees that this spot should be out of harm’s way. Eddie gently sets you down and props you up against the trunk of a fallen tree. He remains crouched and cradles your face in his palms. Eddie takes note of the swelling that spans your head and neck. Just as he turns to disclose this to the others, he’s startled by an ear-splitting yelp.
You throw your head back and squeeze your eyes shut. Eddie scans your expression in puzzlement. “What is it, what’s wrong?”
Robin’s voice cracks, “Uh, guys?” She points at your leg.
Eddie peers over his shoulder and his eyes follow Robin’s finger. He failed to notice the damage done by the other demobat when all hell broke loose. He thinks he understands why you’re in so much discomfort until there’s movement beneath your skin. You scream in agony and it’s a noise that none of your friends have ever heard you make.
Eddie loses his balance and falls on his ass. “What the fuck?!” He looks to Steve and Nancy for an answer but they’re speechless. Their stares are locked on the bulge inside of your oozing gash.
A roar of thunder weaves through the bare woods that you find yourselves in the heart of. The invasive crawling causes you to writhe.
Nancy kneels on the other side of you. She inspects your wound with her bottom lip between her teeth. “We have to get it out.”
Steve scoffs, “How exactly are we gonna do that, Nance?”
Eddie reveals a pocket knife. He holds it out and Steve takes it. Steve flicks the blade out to see what he’s working with.
Robin is quick to shut down the proposal. “Nu-uh, no way. This isn’t Operation, you can’t dig that thing out of her!”
“We don’t have any other options.” Nancy looks at Robin and then at you. “It can’t stay in there.”
Robin turns her back to the amateur surgery that’s about to unfold. “I think I’m gonna be sick.”
Both of Eddie’s hands caress your feverish cheeks. “Alright, sweetheart. I need you to sit still.”
“No-” you sob and fist at the material of your saturated shirt. “I can’t do it.”
While tracing the curvature of your jaw with the pad of his thumb, Eddie’s eyes look back and forth between yours. “We’ll get it out as quickly as we can. It’ll be over before you know it.” The sweetest sadness is swimming in your eyes and it makes his stomach churn. You’re so beautiful even when you’re shaking like a leaf.
“But I’m scared.” Your admission is laced with a quaking whine and your eyes have turned into puddles.
Eddie takes your hand and he interlocks his fingers with yours. “I know, baby. You gotta be my brave girl. I need you to do that for me.” With his free hand, he takes the skull handkerchief from his back pocket and folds it multiple times. Eddie taps on your chin, “Open, please.”
After hesitantly eyeing the cloth, you comply and open your mouth. “Bite down,” Eddie instructs and situates it between your teeth when you do so. Your mewl of protest is deadened.
“You’ve got this.” He kisses your forehead and strokes your hair with both hands. To block your line of sight, Eddie leans forward and tilts your head so you have nowhere else to look except at him. “Keep your eyes on me.”
The stillness of the creature is making Nancy and Steve nervous. She nudges Steve with her shoulder. “Well, what are you waiting for?”
Steve clears his throat and adjusts the small knife in his unsteady grip. He takes two incredibly deep breaths and mutters, “Here goes nothing.” Steve presses the tip of the blade into the raw and inflamed skin.
Your wailing is effectively muffled by the handkerchief and it saves your tongue from being bitten off. You reflexively try to yank your leg away but Nancy holds it securely in place. Blood starts to drip faster as Steve sinks the blade deeper, aiming for the subtle squirming.
The deeper he goes, the more difficult it becomes for you to sit still. Your shoulders fly forward but Eddie guides you to lay back. His hand is starting to tingle from how hard you’re squeezing it. Your brain is so overwhelmed by the misery that you don’t taste the lake water on the hankie.
“I’m so sorry,” Steve says under his breath. He’s fighting the urge to look away from the blood staining his hand.
All of the moaning and bawling drowns out the ravenous screeching coming from afar. Eddie is trying to remain calm but his voice wavers. “He’s almost done. Just a little longer, sweetheart.”
You’re praying to god that this is nearly over, you're not sure how much more you can take. Your pupils disappear behind your eyelids as the hot tears roll down your cheeks and settle coldly in your ears. The portion of the handkerchief that’s hanging out of your mouth catches the transparent stream running from your nose.
The tip of the knife hits an incredibly sore spot and you scream through the tears. Adrenaline is doing nothing to stunt the pain. Your teeth could shatter from how hard you’re biting down on the wad of material. Eddie’s heart is shattering with every sound you make but he’s doing his best to soothe you.
Nancy is having a tough time keeping your leg in place and her grip is borderline bruising. Steve is on the verge of giving up but he spots a black tail and promptly rips it out. The squealing creature is flung aside. As soon as it hits the ground, Robin stomps it to death.
Steve tosses the knife and applies pressure to your calf with two hands. “Shit! Nance, a little help here?”
Your elevated heart rate is causing blood to gush out of your profoundly opened wound. Nancy tears off the bottom of her sweater and ties it tightly around your leg as a makeshift bandage.
Eddie pets your hair with one hand and removes the handkerchief from your mouth with the other. “You did amazing,” Eddie’s voice is broken because he’s close to tears from watching you go through all of this. “You were so strong for me, princess. Thank you.”
An excruciating ache pierces your jaw but it pales in comparison to the rest of your body. Your friends’ voices liquefy and sound as if they’re calling to you from the end of a tunnel.
Nancy applies firm pressure to your leg while Steve is preoccupied with talking Robin out of her rabies meltdown.
The air is so muggy that it’s causing you to sweat. Your body is swarmed with shuddering from the wet clothes clinging to your skin as well as from the major blood loss. Suddenly, you feel drowsy. “Is it bad?” You crane your neck to look down at your leg but your vision has gone blurry.
Eddie guides your gaze back to his face. He doesn’t want you to know how bad of shape you’re in. “You’re not bleeding that much-” He glances over his shoulder and holds his breath from seeing the concerning amount of blood you’ve lost.
The cream-colored knit is now scarlet and the blood is transferring to Nancy’s hands. You’re unable to form another sentence due to consciousness slipping through your fingertips. You can sense Eddie’s touch but it feels the way a whisper sounds. Unable to fight the weariness any longer, your eyelids droop and your chin drops to your clavicle.
“Hey- stay with me.” Eddie taps your cheek three times. “Don’t fall asleep! C’mon, talk to me.”
Your lashes flutter once but you can’t keep your eyes open or hold your head up. The reply he receives from you is nothing more than unintelligible mumbling.
“We’re leaving right now,” Eddie announces while scooping you into his arms again. He kisses your forehead and speaks with his lips against your skin. “I’m taking you home, baby.”
Tumblr media
Ten minutes have passed since taking off in the direction of the trailer park. You’re wading in and out of consciousness. Ruby rivulets continue to trickle down the curvature of your leg, over your ankle, and soak into your socks.
Eddie’s arms begin to quiver and his back muscles feel strained from carrying you. His loud panting is getting under everyone’s skin.
Steve catches Eddie repeatedly adjusting you in his arms. “Dude, I can carry her if you’re getting tired.”
“No! I can do it.” There’s no chance that Eddie is going to jeopardize your safety by passing you to Steve. He’s going to tough it out because he can’t risk anything else happening to you.
Eddie’s clothes are drenched. The coarse wet denim vest rubs against the side of your face. His panting increases as he treks onward, though he tries to suppress it so that he can monitor your breathing.
Once you’ve all made it through the gate where Chrissy died, Eddie brings you to his bedroom. When he goes to lay you on his bed, his arms are so spent that they nearly give out.
Nancy and Robin guard the gaping hole in the ceiling by the front door. Eddie and Steve are standing in the hall just outside of the bedroom, but Eddie stays near the doorway so that he can keep an eye on you.
Steve sighs, “We need to get her to the hospital.”
Eddie shakes his head in disapproval. Not only is he being selfish but it’s extremely risky to deny you access to the medical attention that your injury requires. But after everything that’s happened, Eddie isn’t going to leave your side no matter what.
Steve rubs his forehead. “She’s in tough shape, she needs-”
“No! Are you crazy? I can’t go out there.” Eddie glances to check if you’ve woken but you haven’t moved nor made a peep.
“I’m not talking about you. I’ll take her and you can stay-”
“I said no, Steve!“ Eddie runs a hand through his curls. “I won’t let her out of my sight again, I could lose her.”
Eddie is distraught over what may no longer be. You had plans. You were going to turn the back of Eddie’s van into a liveable space and take a road trip you’ve both spent the past year saving up for.
He never mentioned it, but Eddie secretly daydreams of a youngster or two with his hair and your eyes running around the trailer. He’s never been someone who’s particularly fond of kids but the way that you love him makes him feel open to the idea. He’s thought about it enough that he knows what Star Wars or Lord of the Rings names he’d give them.
But if you don’t want children, that’s okay with him. All he wants is to be with you for as long as you’ll allow. The first day he saw you, that was it. You were the one he wanted until the very end and that hasn’t changed.
Steve sympathizes with Eddie’s apprehension. He crosses his arms and nods. “I’ll take a shot at patching her up. I learned a thing or two about first aid when I was a boy scout.”
Eddie is reluctant. He doesn’t want to trust anyone else with taking care of you but he has no clue how to help you himself. Your leg can’t be left as is. Because of this, Eddie agrees.
During the time that Steve spends rummaging through the bathroom and kitchen for supplies, Eddie struggles with your uncooperative limbs while he changes you out of your soggy clothes into dry ones. At the same time, he inspects you for other damage and he’s relieved that there’s nothing other than bruising and swelling.
You’re situated in the middle of his king-sized bed with your head resting on the pillows. Like a princess waiting to be awoken by true love’s kiss, your arms are positioned across your abdomen.
Eddie paces next to the bed, his patience is wearing thin.
“Okay, I think I found everything I need,” Steve says while double-checking the items.
Eddie stops in his tracks and examines everything that’s tucked under Steve’s arm. “Remind me why I’m trusting you to do this?”
Steve scoffs and uncaps the rubbing alcohol to sterilize the sewing needle. “Because to my knowledge, the most suturing you’ve ever done is putting weird patches on that vest. Relax, I know what I’m doing.” Under his breath, Steve adds, “I think.”
“Wow, you were a lifeguard, a boy scout, and captain of the swim team. What, were you a firefighter too? Or a secret agent?” Eddie cocks his head and crosses his arms. “You’re certainly not a one-trick pony.”
Already seated beside you, Steve rolls his eyes and threads the needle. Eddie sits on the other side and begins removing the tightly bound strip of Nancy’s sweater. He then places his hand on your thigh and rubs soothing shapes on your exposed skin. Even though you’re not awake, Eddie wants to comfort you regardless.
It’s impossible to not be nervous but Steve steadies his hand to the best of his ability. He works diligently and finishes by covering the area with an elastic bandage. Steve receives a look of appreciation from Eddie and he gives him a nod that translates to “don’t mention it.”
Steve has since left the room to give Eddie some privacy with you. Eddie gives a sponge bath to wash the sweat, lake water, and remnants of the Upside Down off of your skin. When he decides that you’re adequately clean, he lays down and watches over you. The past few days have been nothing short of a shit show and it feels incredible to finally be with you again. Feeling somewhat at peace for the first time in what seems like forever, Eddie drifts asleep.
It’s not long before you rouse. You’re immediately aware of the soreness racking your body. The rumble in your throat begins as a groan but swiftly turns into sobbing. The sound immediately alerts Eddie and he’s prepared to soothe you. “I know it hurts, I know. Breathe, baby. Deep breaths.” He takes you into his arms and you curl up to his chest.
You try to follow his guidance to breathe slowly but pain shoots through every inch of you with each expanse of your chest. Undoubtedly, your ribs are bruised from being thrown to the ground by the demobat. “I don’t feel good," You whine.
Eddie wipes away your tears although he’s crying too. ”Get some rest, sweetheart. You’re safe now. I’ll never let anything happen to you again, I promise.”

I'm feeling such love for Sarah Rogers today! What a strong woman she was to have raised Steve all by herself, taking care of him in all his frailty during the depression and holding down a job as a nurse. Such a commendable profession and you just know that Steve gets his sense of right and wrong from the example that his mother set for him.
I can't imagine the pain he must have felt when she passed, one of the few people who loved him as Steve before he was Captain America and how when he woke up in the 21st century the first he would have done was visit her grave. Fixed it up after years of neglect and planted lovely flowers around it. How carefully carefully would have tended to them.
You just know that Sarah loved Bucky as her own. Steve and Bucky were so close as children that their parents probably adopted the other child as their own. Bucky's smile in CW when he says Sarah just shows how much he must have loved her, as a mother and as a co- conspirator when they have to team up to keep Steve in bed when he was sick and stubborn.
One days when Steve goes to visit her grave he sees there are fresh flowers there, daisies which were her favourite and a note. Steve just knows it's from Bucky because who else would know Sarah's favourite flowers and sure enough Buck is there, waiting for him. They visit her grave together and let her know what she already knew in her heart but they could never say out loud back then. That they're in love and been since the 30s. But the world is more accepting now and they don't have to hide. Buck makes Steve dress up to visit Sarah om her birthday because she was a classy woman who deserves respect.
Maybe they name their daughter Daisy in honor of her grandmother who loved them. Everyone says that blonde haired blue eyed little Daisy is just like Steve. But Bucky and Steve know better. She's just like Sarah.
Nonnie 😭😭😭😭
Oh my goodness, this ask... I couldn't agree with you more about the great Sarah Rogers, honestly. She must've been one hell of a woman, I have absolutely no doubt 💙🌻 You put it into words so well, I actually teared up reading this, especially at that last bit aaahhhh 🥺 I still think it's a travesty that we didn't get ANY Sarah Rogers in the MCU, but at least fandom has given her the love and appreciation she deserves. Thank you for sharing your Sarah thoughts with us, lovely! I loved reading them, they made my night ❤️

Izzy has love for Ed. Ed has love for Izzy.
Ed loved Izzy as best he could. Izzy loved Ed as best he could.
And it wasn't only not good enough, in the end it was actively bad, a destructive, unhealthy, co-dependent love for both of them.
But!
We don't know when and how it started (Izzy's "all my life" implies a very long time) and what happened between them in the years and years they spent together. We don't know if there were good, happy times once. Or at least content and/or exciting ones. What we do know is how important Ed is to Izzy, and vice versa. They built their whole lives around each other.
Yes, their relationship was (at least in the end, maybe always) damaging to both of them, to put it lightly. But I think they didn't know it could be any other way and painfully held onto each other 'cause this is as good as it gets - at least we don't fuck each other over. At least this one person will never leave me. If we go down, we go down fighting side by side. And if we live another day, there's this one person I can trust to help me survive.
And then Stede comes along. And shows both of them this radical new concept - a soft and sweet kind of love, affection, enjoying each other's company in a light, sunny way. Just having fun, nothing life-and-death about it! Two people immediately getting each other, talking, laughing, being comfortable. Ed immediately falls for it and is the happiest he's ever been. For Izzy it takes a while, and it has to trickle down and be filtered through the crew for him to accept it (also his armour had to be cracked by the Kraken to make even that possible).
For Ed (and also, to an extent, for Izzy) this is the first time in their life they got a taste of a healthy relationship - it can also be like this?
This is only the start of it of course. Love unfortunately isn't that easy. But Ed will get there with Stede, and Izzy will get there (and faster than any of us thought judging by his character development in the first 3 episodes alone).
But...
Edward Teach and Israel Hands, old married couple, best friends, mentor and pupil?, captain and first mate, maybe (ex-)lovers, probably not, their worst enemies, the perfect team, two very troubled men, taking each other down to the brink of death. Obviously theirs wasn't a healthy relationship! But that doesn't mean that their love for each other is worth less and shouldn't have happened. It also doesn't mean that the way forward is to stop that love (as if that was so easy).
This show is all about learning to love in a healthy, mature, non-destructive way - be it romantic love, friendship, the love of (found) family or (most importantly) self-love.
I'm absolutely certain both Eddie and Iz will get there in the end, not us-two-against-the world, not as a romantic couple. But each in their own way and, hopefully, still remaining loosely bound to each other by mutal hard earned respect and love. That's all I hope for for them <3.

Steve Harrington is a Jock In Bed
Just want to make this clear. I think Steve is absolutely the pinnacle of a Very Dweeby jock in the bedroom. And I don't mean that he tries to flex or peacock around (lol cock), because he totally does that already.
What I mean is that this man yells every single sporty phrase he's got on file.
So imagine this
Eddie and Steve are having a romantic night. Steve made dinner, lit candles, brought Eddie to the bedroom, and was taking him apart little by little until Eddie was practically screaming his name, and Eddie, who had never been treated so well or so tenderly or so lovingly, looks down at Steve to tell him how much he's absolutely ass over heels in love...
... and then Steve ruins it by raising his fists and screaming
"AND HE STICKS THE LANDING!"
Other possible phrases I've imagined him utilizing without even realizing he's saying it;
"Hole in one!"
"That's a slam dunk!"
"Hit my backboard."
"I love you almost as much as the Cubs."
"You're the point guard of my heart, Eddie! 🥹"
"Dribble me, Eddie! You're not allowed to stop dribbling!"
"HOLE IN ONE, M'RIGHT, HONEY?"
"I could give you a breast stroke. Junior lifeguard, remember? 😉"
"GOOOAAAAAALLLL"
-
Eddie bemoans his awful taste in boys as a joke because oh my goodness how absolutely dorky of his sporty boy, and would have continued living blissfully until Steve decides to pin Eddie against the kitchen counter a week later and Eddie, without thinking, let's out a desperate cry of, "touchdown, baby!"
Steve stops mid nibble to Eddie's thigh and beams up at him. "What did you say?"
"I-" Eddie blinks, realization setting in. "I said... I said Nat 20!"
"No you didn't."
"I did!"
"Did I make you go jock?"
"No!"
"Are you gonna join the swim team next?"
"Shut up! I swear! I... I quoted Lord of the Rings!"
"So if I say I'm gonna rail you so hard you'll be singing last year's Olympic rankings you'd be opposed to that?"
"..."
"And I'm pretty sure this counts as exercise so technically you might be an athlete-"
"You shut your goddamn mouth, Harrington."
Eddie calls Gareth in a panic that night to ask if getting punted into pound town by a Former Swim Team Co Captain/Basketball Captain/Monster Killing Hunk can spread their jockyness like some kind of awful sexually transmitted recreational disease and if there's any kind of extra protection against jock mannerisms.
"There's gotta be something? Maybe the condom wasn't enough! I need more, Gareth! Next thing you know I'll be dribbling footballs and getting home runs at soccer!"
"And what do you want me to do about that?"
"Just find me something before this spreads!"
"I really don't-"
"I need a jockstrap for my heart, Gareth!"
Gareth hangs up.

I was more hyped than usual for Playboyy, episode 5, because of some excellent discussion earlier this week about what individual fans are getting out of this show. I hold myself intrigued, but still skeptical, about what's going on, and if this series can close out the mystery aspect that's still lingering regarding Nant's disappearance.
The screenwriter of the show, Den Panuwat, is generous with their hints on social media. They've indicated the show is supposed to be interpreted as camp, and they've indicated intergenerational trauma from the richer protagonists onto their group of friends and sex partners.
Even with these hints, the show is still not foundationally sound, which I was hoping to see more of, and I didn't. We have an expanded storyline in Nuth/Phop, with the indication that Nuth is likely the last person to have seen Nant. But we have not delved into that at all yet, and we are instead watching Nuth and Phop likely catch feelings for each other while engaged in a drug-dependent sex partnership.
We were also introduced to Captain's rugby teammate, Puen, suddenly showing up to Playboyy as a new employee, facing the jealousy of Aob, a clearly older veteran who's... trying to teach Puen "the ways" out of jealousy? Maybe? I don't know why we need this storyline at the moment, but it's adding to the pile.
I mentioned in my post earlier this week that I keep on saying that there's A LOT A LOT A LOT in this show, and man. I mean. MDL has this series listed with FOURTEEN EPISODES. FOURTEEN. I have to ask this question: do Cheewin Thanamin and Den Panuwat not think that the Nant/Nont storyline is strong enough to lead a single episode?
I always go back to thinking about Bed Friend or Make It Right when I think of Cheewin shows having A LOT A LOT A LOT, but: Bed Friend was centered mostly solely around KingUea, and the trauma that the show focused on was Uea's. Make It Right had exactly two couples (to start) in TeeFuse and FrameBook. Compared to Playboyy, those two series were slimmed down by way of storylines, and still have strong central structure -- MIR having strong central structure from the start of the show, despite the chaos of the young men.
We're at episode 5, and adding storylines here. Do I think they can come together in 14 episodes? Yes, absolutely -- a skilled team could do it. I think I'm sharing frustration here about needing to go through it from the episodic perspective. As my friend @lurkingshan has noted to be about this show before: the little-to-no background knowledge we have of these characters -- their motivations, their curiosities, their personalities -- are unknown to us. There's no time to get to know them. We won't only get to know them by seeing who they're having sex with. It's a little tough to be interested in the meaning of these storylines when, except for sex, there's little going on by way of any of them, expect for Nont, delving into the "whys" of the disappearance of their friend.
I appreciate that the main friend group is also diving into their own investigations. That could be a show! But we now have Aob/Puen and Nuth/Phop and their whole deals to deal with, and I'm tearing my hair out a little. Maybe.... that's the point, who knows.
If campy stylistics are the name of the game -- then, like I said in my post earlier this week, this show has a lot to live up to. Camp, AND critical discussions on the wealth disparity and addiction co-morbidity aspects of sex work? Whew, that's a lot. The addition of so much stuff, at this point in the series, hurts the storyline, in my opinion. But, I will still stick with it, for now, out of curiosity if the style and the substance will both improve and meet at the same level.

Girls Night Out
Post-Gauntlet Keme & Elara friendship fic bc I caught a plot gizka off the most recent time through. ft Jaxo's Checking In mission and Elara giving relationship advice :3 [~3500 words]
---
The medcenter hallway was 763 tiles long.
Keme knew this because she'd counted them while pacing. Thrice.
The lovely thing about being Havoc's CO was that it allowed her to know the "status of her team" but didn't necessarily let her do what she wanted with that information. Which was why she was here, in the kriffing hallway, instead of in there. When the medcenter said no visitors they meant it. No exceptions for commanding officers.
She'd memorized the list of Jorgan's injuries, too.
Which was why she was here. Pacing the hallway. Instead of out enjoying the brief--rare--shore leave, or restocking, or any of the half dozen other things she could think to do.
It was hard to read the words "punctured lung" and not worry.
Keme finally halted and slouched in one of the barely-padded chairs, fingers nervously tapping the armrest as she stared at the wall. Please be okay.
[Punctured lung. Multiple contusions and blaster burns from sustained heavy fire. Significant plasma burns to left leg, extensive bone and nerve damage; below knee amputation recommended. Potential retinal--]
Footsteps echoed down the austere hall and Keme snapped to her feet. Her shoulders dropped fractionally seeing it was Dorne.
"Not to be insubordinate, Major-" the other woman began, settling into parade rest posture when she reached Keme.
Keme waved off the concern. "We're on leave, Elara. And regardless, if you're about to dispense medical advice, it's hardly insubordinate for you to do your job." She shifted her weight, fighting the urge to pace again.
"Very well. You should go do something, Keme. This" --she gestured to the hallway-- "is not healthy for you, and it isn't helping anyone."
Keme snorted and rubbed at gritty eyes with the heel of one hand. "Like what, Elara? I don't have anyone to visit, I'm not much for shopping, and I'll bet my next three paychecks I couldn't focus on a book or vid to save my--"
Her comm beeped with a message notification. Keme frowned. Garza or the medtechs would've commed, no reason for her parents to be contacting her right now... She spotted a terminal and headed for it, Elara on her heels.
"Something the matter, sir?" Elara asked.
"Don't know yet." Keme signed in and pulled up her messages. There were two--one text, one audio. The text file proved to be the official notice of their promotions; major for her, captain for Jorgan, lieutenant for Dorne, and the medals and commendations earned on the Gauntlet mission.
"Would've made captain soon if Command hadn't hung me out to dry." She chucked internally at the memory. Hope this wasn't too much of a delay for you.
The audio message was from Jaxo. "Hey, hotshot, heard you're back on Coruscant, with leave no less. Some friends and I were equally lucky, and we're gonna do something fun with it. Swing by if you wanna join us."
"That sounds like someone you could visit," Elara commented. "As a distraction."
Keme rolled her eyes as she closed down the terminal. "C'mon, how much fun d'you think I'll be tonight?"
"You never know," Elara said with a shrug. "Maybe once you start relaxing, it'll help more than you expect."
Keme chewed the inside of her cheek. Under other circumstances, it would be fun. Maybe she should give it a shot. "I'll go if you come with me."
Elara arched a brow. "I wasn't invited."
"So I'm inviting you," Keme said. "I'll tell Jaxo since we both have leave we're a package deal."
"Oh, alright. If it'll get you out of here."
Keme gave a wry smile. "Guess this means we need to go find other outfits, that fit the tone of having fun better."
"I suppose we should," Elara said with a faux-sigh, and they started down the hall.
Keme couldn't help a last look back over her shoulder, as if that would make a doctor materialize with an update and justify her staying.
It didn't.
---
This cantina was too loud. The first couple hadn't been bad, which almost made the pounding music and din of customer chatter worse. Keme took the drink--gizer ale--Jorda clumsily shoved in her hands and surveyed the crowd. Dancing, drinking...
The song changed and Keme wrinkled her nose. It was too loud to think in here, let alone really talk. She took a sip of her drink as that clicked. The other places they'd hit so far; five of the eight Jaxo had tallied at the start, were busy, noisy, but not so much to prevent conversation. She could listen to Jorda or Keran's war stories, Jaxo regaling them with one of her declassified exploits, and it was at least somewhat the distraction she needed.
With this place too loud to think, her thoughts were slipping back to the default track, even as she sought some level of refuge at the high tables away from the dance floor.
Punctured lung. Multiple contusions and blaster burns from sustained heavy fire. Significant--
"Hey." Jaxo hoisted herself up on one of the other tall chairs. "This seems a dang'rous combo with drunk people," she muttered, briefly distracted, before looking back at Keme. "Why don't you look like you're havin' fun? The whole point of this is t' have fun!"
"It's too loud in here." Wasn't technically a lie; she was all but hollering just to talk. "Can hardly hear myself think."
Jaxo snorted. "Y' aren't s'pposed to think, you're s'pposed to dance, have fun, drink people under the table." She studied Keme for a moment, expression sobering at the half-shrug she got in response. "You've been quiet all night, come to think. Dorne looks like she's havin' more fun than you." She lightly kicked the side of Keme's boot. "Didn't you just save the Republic an' get a big promotion?"
"Yeah," Keme acknowledged, distracted by a specific flicker of movement as Elara worked her way through the crowd.
"Well, I've about had my fill of this sort of fun," she commented, setting her half-drunk Johrian whiskey on the table and claiming the remaining chair.
Jaxo rolled her eyes. "Think you've rubbed off on your CO, Dorne; she'd rather sit an' mope into her drink than celebrate."
Elara let the jibe roll off without acknowledgement, giving her attention to the latter part. "The promotion may be cause for celebration, but since the squad XO was seriously injured in the course of that mission, I think her reticence is understandable, don't you?"
Jaxo had the grace to wince at the explanation. "Didn't know that part, sorry, major." She nudged Keme's shoulder. "Still, you being all sullen an' worrying isn't gonna help him get better any faster, right?" Isn't it better to be in a good frame of mind for dealing with whatever Command throws your way?" She glanced around the room, did a double take and grinned when it passed over the others from their group. "Looks like Keran found us some new friends." She slid off the seat, tottered a little finding her balance, and flashed Keme a genuine smile. "Hope you'll feel up to joining us, hotshot."
Keme appreciated Elara's silence as they watched her leave, headed for the gaggle of clean-cut 'friends' who had joined Keran and Jorda.
"How d'you think she'd feel, knowing she agreed with you?" Keme sighed, folding her hands over her cup and resting her chin atop them.
"About what?" Elara took another sip of her whiskey.
"Relaxing's the point of shore leave. Unwinding so you're ready for your next assignment." She tried not to dwell on the likelihood Havoc would be running a member short for whatever theirs was.
The song changed, something slightly quieter, and she sighed in relief at the reprieve.
A small smile tugged Elara's lips and she swirled the remaining whiskey in her glass. "True as that is, and as good as it would be for your mental state regardless, I think you were 'wound' a bit further than the rest of us, so it follows it'll take you longer to unwind."
"But you two also have a point there," Keme said, idly watching the animated body language of Jaxo and Keran's "friends". A challenge had clearly been issued; Jorda plunked a tray of shots down on the table. "What good does worrying do? Not gonna speed up the healing process, not even gonna magically create an exception to the 'no visitors' policy." She straightened with a huff. "But it's like I can't help myself."
"Well, I'd say concern for your people when they get injured in the line of duty makes you a good CO." Elara raised her glass and slanted a mischievous look at Keme over the rim. "Though I'm under no illusions it would be quite so much a... distraction, in my case."
Keme made a strangled noise of indignation. "I- You're my friend, of course I'd worry-!"
"I know, and I'd appreciate it," Elara said with a smile. A loud whoop dragged their attention to where Jaxo was clearly winning whatever game was going on. "I also know this is different."
"No point playing dumb, huh?" Keme groaned and rubbed her temples. "It is and I don't know why."
Elara scoffed, barely audible under the music. "No? Need I remind you the ship's medbay is right next to the armory?" She arched a brow. "Or that I have functional ears and it isn't as if you two whisper?"
She should probably be a little embarrassed by the implication, but she wasn't. Keme slugged down half her drink in a go, cleared her throat at the burn. "Then you know it's just been talking." So far, she added mentally. "Maybe a little flirting, but nothing serious, nothing to justify wringing my hands over him getting hurt. 'Specially in this line of work."
Elara studied her. "Keme." She set her now-empty glass on the table. "Jorgan didn't just 'get hurt', he was seriously injured, almost died--"
"Thanks for preventing that, by the way," Keme muttered into her drink, suppressing a flinch at hearing it so bluntly.
"You're welcome. My point is, just because you two have been outwardly taking your time, exhibiting caution due to your positions, doesn't mean your heart was on the same timetable." She leaned back in her chair. "You've not done anything by half-measure since I met you, it would hardly be a surprise for this to follow the pattern. And... close calls like this can easily serve as catalyst for realizing the true depth of feelings."
"Very astute." Keme finished the last swallow of her drink and slid off the seat to stretch. "Both the advice and the noticing."
"As I said, it's not hard to pick up." Elara smiled and likewise slid out of her chair. The song changed back to something that pounded, prompting the two of them to head for the relative quiet of the street.
"Well, in that case, thanks for not reporting me for fraternization or something," Keme said dryly, taking a deep breath of comparatively cooler air.
"I don't see a need," Elara said, shrugging. "It's clearly mutual, and hasn't kept either of you from doing your jobs, quite well. So long as it doesn't interfere with operational effectiveness, I don't see it as my place to report anything you or Captain Jorgan haven't, sir."
Keme slanted a glance her way, smirked at the mischief glinting in her friend's eyes. "You playing matchmaker now, LT?"
(A small but undeniable pulse of glee burrowed through her gnawing worry at 'clearly mutual'.)
Elara tilted her head, brows arching in faux-innocence. "I'm sure I don't know what you mean, major. Should I stop??"
"Depends, do you think I need the help?"
"I have every confidence in your ability to pursue a man who's interested in you," Elara deadpanned. "If that's what you're asking."
Keme snorted. "Thanks. Then I guess it's just a matter of if you wanna be complicit should we get written up for fraternization down the line."
Elara perked up. "Oh, there's a form authorizing romantic relationships."
Of course there is. And of course you knew about it off the top of your head. "Great, more paperwork. Jorgan'll be thrilled."
"I think he'd do it for you."
"I think we should wait until it's actually a relationship before we worry about that, rather'n just flirting, huh?"
"If you insist," Elara said with a shrug.
Keme wondered what the odds were that form would be downloaded and waiting to be called for, when she was ready. Probably pretty high. She looked up, watching the racing lights of traffic flight paths for a minute. "Thanks, Elara. 'M sorry Jaxo's not exactly warm and welcoming, but I'm glad you came along."
"I was an unexpected addition," Elara said mildly. "And I'm far from ignorant of my reputation among Republic personnel. Their opinion of me is their business. Staying true to myself is mine."
Keme nodded. Good outlook. "How much d'you think it would shock them if we rejoin and I said you're the one who talked me out of moping and into havin' fun?"
Elara snickered. "Oh, that might almost be worth stretching the truth."
It wasn't that much of a stretch; talking about her muddled feelings had helped her feel better. More like celebrating. But they didn't get a chance to run their experiment. Even as they turned to head back inside, Jaxo and the others emerged from the cantina.
"Another one down," Jaxo crowed, hooking an arm around Keran's neck. "An' our tab's covered 'cause I drank her Navy buddies under the table!"
Ah. So that's who they were. "Quite the achievement," Keme drawled. "Where to next?"
"Done moping, major?" Jaxo teased.
Keme shrugged. "You and Elara made some good points. Tonight should be for fun."
Jaxo was too tipsy to hide her surprise. "Yeah? Glad we, uh, got through to you. We still have two stops left, hotshot. I expect you to pull your weight for them."
"Aye, aye," Keme said with a mock salute that Jorda found hilarious from her loud bout of laughter.
"Right then." Jaxo steered the group toward a taxi stand. "On to the Sloppy Tauntaun!"
Keme gave a startled bark of laughter. "That is not its name!"
"Oh, you're in for a treat," Jaxo sniggered as they piled into a cab. "Hole in the wall cantinas are the best."
---
Keme wasn't completely sure she'd agree with Jaxo's assessment once they're had their fun at the ironically well-kept Sloppy Tauntaun--she preferred cantinas with a bit of polish--but the drinks were good and they did have fun.
Last stop was the Silent Sun because it was closest to Jaxo's place. Smart move on her part; Jorda couldn't make it more than a few steps without giggling, Keran and Elara were weaving a little, and even with her slow start, Keme was feeling the buzz of not-quite-drunk(but more-than-tipsy). Still. She could walk a straight line, so not too bad. And she knew now Elara could match Jaxo shot for shot, which was fun information and had definitely increased Jaxo's opinion of the Havoc medic.
They'd turned down the hallway to Jaxo's place, Jorda now leaning on Elara while Jaxo punched in her access code--it took two tries, Maybe she was more plastered than she showed--when Keme's datapad beeped. She glanced at it out of habit.
Medcenter alert.
The pleasant alcohol buzz was gone.
She didn't open the message but its mere arrival was a reminder of reality.
Later. I'll deal with it after we leave. It still felt like her datapad was burning a hole in her pocket. She shook it off and followed the others into Jaxo's place. There was still the harsh reality of she couldn't do anything(except pace a groove in the hall), anyway.
"Hey. "Jorda's hand settled heavy on her shoulder. "You're amazing, y'know?" She blinked like a newly-sighted loth-kitten. "J'st amazing. Savin' our butts on Quesh? The Gauntlet? Amazing," she proclaimed with all the gravitas of an emphatic drunk.
"Thank you, Jorda," Keme said with a chuckle.
Elara materialized, gently tugging on Jorda's arm. "I think it would be best for you to lie down a bit, Corporal. Jaxo said you can use her bed, come on."
"Well, this was fun," Keran drawled as Keme joined her and Jaxo. "'Specially now that you've guaranteed I'll get heckled for the next month."
"Hey," Jaxo said with a grin and shrug. "If your Navy buddies can't drink a sweet little thing like me under the table, that's their problem, not yours. You heckle them right back."
Keran laughed. "Good plan. On that note, I better get going. We ship out late tomorrow, so I should work on sleeping off the incoming hangover. See ya 'round, Jaxo, Major."
"Later, Keran," Jaxo said, turning to Keme as Keran headed out. "Glad you made it. Even if it took a while for you to get in the spirit."
"I did need the distraction," Keme allowed, trying not to dwell on the medcenter alert. "Sorry I was a bit of a drag."
"Hey." Jaxo shrugged. "While I'm of a mind we should enjoy the good times when she get 'em, you had a pretty decent reason for that being tricky." She hesitated a moment, smile tugging her lips, then, "I gotta ask, this XO of yours... wouldn't happen to be the grumpus watchin' your six when we worked together, would it?"
Keme huffed a laugh. "Yeah. He's good at it."
"'Course he is." Jaxo snickered and sobered. "Well, I wish him a speedy recovery. And maybe Havoc can wrap this war up quick for us, huh?"
"You lookin' to swap for a desk job, Sergeant?" Keme teased.
Jaxo barked a laugh. "Please. I'd go insane inside a month." Her gaze flicked to the side as Elara rejoined them. "Am I gonna need to clean any of my stuff?"
Elara shook her head. "Not so far. But I would advise making sure she stays hydrated."
Jaxo gave a mock salute. "Aye, aye." She flopped back on the couch. "I'll let you two go. Thanks for coming."
"Yeah, sure," Keme said with a wave as she and Elara made for the door. "Thanks for the invite."
"Anytime, Major," Jaxo called after them just before the door closed.
They had to keep an eye for gangsters and so didn't have time for conversation until they were in the speeder back to the Senate district.
"Glad you went?" Elara asked lightly.
"Yeah. Needed the distraction," Keme said even as she dug out her datapad and pulled up the unread message. "Unfortunately, reality is persistent and has really bad timing..." She only skimmed the first couple sentences before handing the datapad to Elara. "Medcenter alert. You're better with parsing the jargon than I am."
One corner of Elara's mouth twitched and she took the datapad, lips moving silently as she read. "It's a treatment update... they were able to repair the retinal damage with no scarring..."
Good the squad sniper's vision isn't compromised, Keme thought sardonically, something tight easing in her chest.
"...they did have to amputate, the requisition for a cybernetic leg is attached. Being in SpecForce, particularly Havoc, that should be filled by end of day tomorrow; Command will want their top unit at full strength ASAP..." she read further. "...overall prognosis is good; full recovery and return to duty within two standard weeks."
"That fast?!" Keme blurted. She wanted Jorgan back, no question, but not because the medcenter rushed him out the door.
"The miracle of kolto," Elara said, shutting down the datapad and handing it back.
"And skilled medical personnel, and you," Keme added, tucking the datapad away. The tightness in her chest and gut eased further.
Elara arched a brow. "Wouldn't I fall under 'skilled medical personnel'?"
"No, 'cause you saved his damn life in the field, without access to all the fancy equipment here, that puts you in a category all your own, Dorne," Keme retorted.
"Don't forget Forex while you're doling out praises," Elara said, glancing at the buildings whizzing by.
"Oh, never. I've already bugged Garza twice about giving him whatever's the best commendation we can wrangle for a droid." Keme smirked a little, toying with the clasps of her jacket. "Squad loyalty and cohesion are grand."
"Your leadership's helped us get there," Elara said. "You're a fine commanding officer, and if I may say so, an even better friend."
"You may, and thank you." Keme shifted in her seat as the speeder pad came into view. "You're a good friend, too, Elara. Right down to talkin' me into girls' night out when I wasn't sure about it."
"That's what friends are for, sir," Elara said as the speeder settled on the pad and they climbed out. "As well as supporting you in rough times," she added when Keme's gaze went toward the medcenter. "Heading back?"
"Just to check in. Then--unless by some miracle the 'no visitors' policy has vanished--it's back to the Starbreaker for some rest."
"Sounds like a plan."
Keme nodded absently. Her bunk on the ship would be more comfortable than a medcenter chair, at least.
And she could always resume counting hallway tiles in the morning.
