there is something where. hm. like yes, tim can be condescending towards steph, he was written by dixon, it's inevitable. but also since, for a very long time, he was the only one supporting steph's decision to be a vigilante & the only one giving her any sort of attempt at formal training, tim is also the one who tends to get held accountable for her by the adults in their lives when she does mess up, or acts reckless, or makes a mistake. because the fault is considered to lie with his failure to teach her properly, so even if it shouldn't be tim's fault, because it's the fault of all the adults who are refusing to take any sort of responsibility, her behavior does end up reflecting on tim.

so you end up with this thing where to steph: her and tim are equals in a relationship. they are similar aged vigilates & the disparity in their training and experience isn't that important. because she's trying and working really hard & her methods do end up getting the result she desires/end up working in some way, shape, or form, so she's doing good enough to be on equal footing with tim wrt this whole vigilante thing. after all, they're both kids! there's no real difference between them except tim gets a little more training than her. and she's not wrong in that if an adult were to actually officially sanction her & train her she would be on more equal footing with tim as far as they're just two kids who are choosing to be vigilantes.

where to tim he's operating with the knowledge that that their relationship is one thing, but their jobs as vigilantes is a completely separate thing. and them being equal vigilantes is really not considered the case to any other active gotham vigilante. experiencewise, before steph even showed up on the scene, tim had had at least his six months of dedicated training with batman & occasional training with nightwing. he had also had his weeks of dedicated daily training in paris with the rahul lama & then his speed training with lady shiva. he does have probably close to at least 8-9 months of training and experience and working as robin on steph at her first appearance. he's also at a point where he is considered by the adults around him to be trained & skilled enough to be able to train jean-paul valley at that point. this disparity only worsens during the time before they start dating where tim finishes his training in paris with the rahul lama along with getting even more ongoing specialized training from batman & nightwing and steph...continues to be self taught. so the adults around them have expectations for tim that they don't necessarily have for steph, and since tim is the one training her & the expectations for tim at this point are that he's an autonomous, skilled vigilante in his own right (and has been since he was left in charge of azbats), if steph does mess up & tim is the one choosing to sanction & train her, then her mistakes & recklessness becomes tim's fault for not training her properly. although in a perfect world, she wouldn't be his responsibility in this way, that's just how everyone (batman, nightwing, the birds of prey) views it. & like. as someone who takes students at her job. it's not entirely wrong that while a mistake made by a student is on the student & it's also very much considered ultimately the fault of the instructor for failing to recognize that the student wasn't ready or skilled enough for something that they made a mistake, because as the more experienced professional, it's on you to recognize the limitations of the student & supervise/guide them accordingly. which tim is in the position of everyone feeling that steph is his responsibility to manage, because he's often the only one who thinks she should be given a chance & is trying to give her a chance.

it's an inherent power imbalance, formed the the fact that tim is the only one willing to instruct her for a long time, sanctioned & reinforced by the adults around them.

#like yes tim is condescending at points #but also she does make mistakes and when she does #the adults tend to consider that tim is the one they feel is in charge of her #ergo it's on tim for failing to control her. which is a heavy expectation & not one you should be casting into a relationship #and there's another thread there where steph doesn't necessarily care as much about reputation or perceptions #whereas tim is a little more cautious regarding you can't just say you're sanctioned and then mess up #because that reflects poorly on the brand #and he's probably a little overcautious but you know i don't think he's entirely wrong #in that the people's ability to trust the symbol comes from competence & the assurance that they won't mess up so uh

Tim Drake lived in the city with his parents before they moved into the manor, and it's how he was able to take pictures of Batman and Robin.

In Dani's travels across the world, the moment she stumbles into Gotham, she becomes friends with Tim Drake, who was sad that it was his last night in the city. His parents have become richer with their new business endeavors, and now they're moving to Bristol, becoming neighbors with Playboy Billionaire Philanthropist Bruce Wayne.

Dani decided to make this kid's last night of picture taking a night to remember, carrying him to so many angles he could take pictures of the Dynamic Duo. Tim also capturing with his camera Dani beating up some bad guys herself.

“Not bad, Ghost Girl,” said Tim, showing Dani some pictures he took of her.

Dani playfully smacked his arm. “Thanks, Stalker Boy.”

Once the night is over, Tim expresses that it's the best night ever, and they say their goodbyes, with Tim saying that Dani is a pretty good hero, too.

It’s years later when they meet again, when Phantom became an active member of the Justice League, and months later decides to introduce his clone to Superman in hopes of getting him to accept Superboy.

Tim didn’t recognize Dani, since she was in her Dani Phantom form. And Dani didn’t recognize Tim, since he was dressed as Robin. 

But, she did recognize Robin being Batman’s partner. And, although she knows that this isn’t the same Robin from when she visited Gotham all those years ago, she’s just gotta ask, “You ever notice some kid following you around and taking pictures of you and the Bat fighting crime at night?”

Dani imagines Robin blinking his eyes behind his domino mask. But then, he gasped, and pointed a finger towards her. And Dani, on instinct pointed back.

“GHOST GIRL!?”

Dani gasped. There’s only one kid who called her that. And it was, “STALKER BOY?!”

So many questions were bombarded towards the two, Batman being exasperated and tired, and Danny being amused and happy that Dani has a friend from her travels.

I'm not the well versed with irl romance, but in so many romance manga/manhwa, there's a focus on a male lead that is extremely protective, vengeful for the mc, possessive, etc. He'll fight battles for her, support her, torture people that hurt her, etc. While I do not mind reading such male leads, I can't help but wonder if that's what those authors and fans want in someone. Someone that'll protect, support, and save them. You can also see it in the fics people write on this website. Like is that what romance is supposed to be?

For me, the thought of anyone being protective over me to the point of fighting my battles, standing up to people that hurt me, etc is disgusting. Like applying such a man to real life would disgust me so much. I was always taught to solve problems on my own. It's both my responsibility and my right. I do not want nor need people's protection. I do not want nor need people making my life easier for me. I appreciate support, but any more than that and I'd get so offended if anyone treated me in that way. It'd be the equivalent of saying that I am not adequate nor equipped enough to handle my problems. It's insulting.

But is that the kind of partner the people that write and read these stories want? Are they just reading it for fun and I do or do they deep down desire to be treated like this?

messy unstructured ramble time ... whilst he takes pride in being the progenitor of mankind (when it benefits him at least), adam has lived in divine ordainment for so long that he's disassociated himself from the human race somewhat, the sinners in particular. he believes himself to be more than them. and whilst he's not entirely wrong (he was a super human for lack of a better description) i really want to explore his deeper feelings towards mortal souls, and his 'realisation' in moments of weakness that they aren't that different.

despite not really playing a part in humans getting free will etc. the humans / sinners still came from him. there are feelings of responsibility somewhere i think. in a way ... one could say the sinners are his mistakes. when he erases them, he's erasing those mistakes. erasing the comparisons that could be drawn between himself and them. erasing that side of himself he doesn't want heaven to see.

and on another note. it's sad seeing that leading up to his death in canon ... he tries to cling to those he thought himself above for so long. family for lack of a better word, humanity being one big family after all. he still tries to disassociate himself from them whilst, at the same time, turning to them for one last shot at approval. in his own way, sure. but it's interesting that he's the one that finally draws those comparisons that he was afraid of.
