as much as my memories and connection with the dream smp has been tainted overtime due to reasons, i still cant get myself to hate that time period and the server as it truly was what kept me creatively stimulated during covid. it is what got me back into minecraft and allowed me to be introduced to so many other creators beyond what i thought i would watch and for that im grateful. this may be bittersweet in more ways than one but i just want to say thanks for all the memories, the good and the bad, and goodbye.

the worst thing about consuming content from a fandom that has bad reputation is that.. it doesnt matter if you carefully curate your sources or just avoid certain places in general you still feel so, so SO ashamed for enjoying it

Just tuned in for a minute and am kinda shocked. I thought he was shooting for something that was genuine horror? Like I get the cheesy schtick that is being demonstrated and that’s not for everyone (and plenty entertaining for others which is fair) but it’s also not what it was marketed to be lol. It just feels like a let down. Even though I stopped enjoying Ranboo’s content I tried to stay openminded for gen loss because he’s been working on it for so long, and he seemed to be passionate about it, but that was just… not what I expected it to be and not in a good way
i personally think that ranboo did a great job portraying serious interactions and situations on the dsmp which is right now basically his only past work i have to compare to genloss so i can really honestly agree with you here on the sentiment that treating genloss like a goofy ass comedy show for youtube kids was a huge disappointment to me too and i dont even watch the guy anymore LOL so i totally understand where youre coming from. i think ranboo couldve done something really really good with this horror aspect he hyped it up to be, i mean if hes basing it off the fanworks with all the glitches and blood and disturbed themes most genloss fanart had youd think his set would at least be dimly lit, red lights instead of harsh yellow 💀maybe a little more rundown and disturbing, his demeanor not so uncaring and dismissive. and though i can appreciate both serious horror and like. whatever the hell he has going on rn i think that hes just a little bit out of water with this one. as long as he is happy i guess !

i am genuinely so happy for ranboo for their rebrand and fully moving on to variety content and everything theyre working towards , but Oh my fucking god its so hard to literally consume any of his content now LMAO. and not because of him at all dont get me wrong i still love watching their streams, but i just cannot for the life of me interact w their fandom like. jesus christ y’all are being so annoying abt this rebrand LMAO . no he doesn’t “hate” the dsmp he just doesnt want to be known as Just a minecrafter. yknow . kinda like how 99% of the ex members are more known for their variety stuff too. he literally still talks about how hes still fond of it and his character (they kept all the michael emotes!) . like im tired of bootwt especially acting all holier than thou because they don’t like minecraft content anymore like shut the fuck up😭 people get attacked for even Mentioning cranboo and it kind of sucks like a lot . theyll tell other fandoms who attack them and call them cringe that “its okay he Hates the dsmp now we’re not apart of Them ^-^” - like. Whatever happened to cringe culture is dead yknow. idk man that shit makes me sad !!! its okay to still consume and miss their minecraft content i promise! i still love ranboo and regularly watch his new content but their fandom (twt side especially) kinda needs to fuck off a bit!

i kinda just want to get this off my chest . my bad if this isn’t even the right place to say this lmao. ive been a fan of tommy for quite a while and im well aware hes close with dream but my god. i do not like dream i fucking hate him tbh
obviously hes not going to suddenly drop dream anytime soon out of the blue but some dumb part of my brain wishes he would lololol
i know im not the only tommy fan who’s also a ‘dranti’ or whatever the fuck . and i really just dont know if i should stop watching him or continue what ive doing- engaging in his content while ignoring everything abt dteam
hes on thin ice for me right now i guess . idk anymore
As someone who used to be a very avid Tommy watcher and someone that really tried to stick with him until the allegations happened (after seeing him constantly interact with dream on twitter I just unfollowed/unsubscribed etc as my interest was fading and I was barely watching his videos anyway and it was genuinely frustrating to see him act like that), I totally get that.
A lot of inniters downright hate dream. And like. Yeah I get that, but I think like. After a certain point you should probably like realize that Tommy is openly friends with dream and even has made jokes about the situation and he's not going to stop anytime soon. And I really think that just taking a step back and just. Dropping him for now would be the best move.
Tbh like I think one thing influencing the whole thing is the fact that Tommy is clinging to the dsmp for dear life bc he just kind of seems lost? As if he doesn't know what to do and how to proceed without the dsmp.
The exile merch, the announcement for yet another "dsmp finale" etc.
Tommy has potential, but I feel like he's throwing it all away bc he refuses to separate himself and his brand from dream and also bc it seems like he just did not expect to lose that big of a chunk of his audience this fast. If the allegations didn't happen he wouldn't have afaik, but he did and now he's just. Stuck like this.
Anyway I haven't watched any of his content in ages so I might be slightly wrong, feel free to correct me ig.

i don’t even know what to do anymore it’s upsetting but i can’t bring myself to hate these guys. they’ve been my life for 3-4 years now.
Gotta do what you gotta do anon :/. So far i still watch tommys content but if i get to a pt where i can't separate it anymore i will have to tap out (not crit to anyone else just for me personally). And i try to live a life not centric around cc's/parasocial to the max. Plus, i'll never leave behind dsmp/osmp/the stories i loved so much they are my ocs now and i have so much left to contribute writing wise. I don't regret my time nor let it taint that wonderful little story and our lovely community for me. But yeahit's complicated and sorry i dont have good advice for you or direction, i dont have it for myself either.

Keep in Mind I havent touched most of these things w the Exception of WC for like Years especially after becoming an Adult, the DSMP has been my Only fixation since 2020

I started watching dsmp in February of 2021. I never posted anything then bc of my social anxiety (and maybe that was for the best).
I watched the stuff before that. I watched so many streams Live the prison streams, egg saga, Wilburs revival, las nevadas, nearly every beeduo stream. I am not exageratting when I say I have probably spent like a thousand hours watching it.
The story of dsmp is weird. It's mc roleplay at it's best and worst at the same time somehow. It had so many good writing, banger lines, Cool stories, characters and concepts and yet it had unsatisfying endings, wasted potentials and an unnecessary amount of angst (a good ending isn't a bad thing ffs).
The problem with dsmp was, like any smp it completely depends on people playing the actual smp. And if they don't the smp simply dies. And dsmp was never something that could exceed a years time. Other smps that go on for a long time are more building and redstone focused (many of the dsmp members are not) or they have a wacky premise (dsmp does not)
The only reason people would log onto the Server was because 1) everybody was in quarantine 2) To roleplay
But then we could go outside again. And some of them didn't want to roleplay anymore. So they stopped logging on. And then some others followed suit. And slowly even people like foolish who streamed god knows how many fucking hours stopped. And so nobody was active anymore. Because what was the point of you being active if you're just gonna be alone in a fecking smp.
And so it died.
Or it should've died. Because unlike many smps that ended when people stopped playing it dsmp didn't. It could've. The story could've ended in so many different points before this and it would've been fine. But it didn't.
It kept going. It was like a suffering animal that needed to be put out of it's misery. But they kept it going.
They would do an event once like 5 months 10 people would join and nobody would log on again for another 5 months.
Lore streams would have 6 months between them.
They would say soon so many fucking times yet nothing would ever be soon, sometimes it would never happen.
Drm kept adding some new people which would get welcomed one day and the next day they were left alone (I feel really bad for those folks).
The very obvious miscommunication was so fucking irritating as it ruined a lot of peoples lore by them getting ignored or not being informed.
(The way some ccs ridiculed fans or even other ccs for liking or caring about lore was awful.)
And with all that I just wanted this smp to be put out of it's fucking misery (I wanted it especially for fans and ccs who gave a shit about this story)
I ended up dropping it at the end of 2021.
But the smp was dragged on and on and on...
And then there was the c!clingyduo ending. I did not watch the ending, dont plan on doing so ever. But from what I've seen other people say and from the recap I read. I can easily say: That the ending was BAD. I don't wanna go too indebt on it but what the genuine fuck was that message.
I am beyond dissapointed. I stopped caring about it long ago, my expectations were none but still, HOW can they fuck it up this BAD.
(Wilbur going to Utah is a better ending. HOW)
In the end I liked it and I hated it. (Some ccs are really cool and I really like their content beside the smp, follow them even now, some of them I would've rather I never knew them) Fandom was bizzare; one day I was having so much fun with the most creative and amazing fan content out there, one day I was questioning my own morality because of drama. It helped me through the pandemic as much as it damaged me mentally in ways. In the end though the positives outwayed the negatives, not by much, but today, I don't regret joining it (I think)
{Also The best and the only good part of that finale was when Jack Manifold said 'it's Manifolding time' and Manifolded all over the place}
These are a mere smidge of my thoughts. I have so many thoughts that I could write multiple essays of everything that I like and dislike about this smp. But honestly, what is the point.
AND FUCK SEASON 2

listen I dont follow the dsmp anymore and don't intend to get back into it but god that shit should have ended a long time ago. Not to say 'that shit' as in it's garbage, and not 'a long time ago' as in as soon as it started. I'm stating a neutral fact. This series, and I dont know when's the right time, should have been concluded a whiiiiiiile back. Please. Please dear god. From the standpoint of building a solid narrative, holy shit.
It happens pretty frequently in media that forcing something to continue for the sake of milking its content, no matter how much the fans want it, will kill the series, the franchise, the creative work, whatever the fuck said media is. Superfans will keep watching it for the title it has and the characters it manages to retain, but even they understand a lot of times that what they're watching isn't what it used to be. Whether that be because content has actually changed, or the production has simply gone on for too long or become lackluster.
Think The Adventure Zone: Balance. I'm NOT talking about the quality of one story versus another, but just how that quality was improved with how one handled its ending. Balance was and is a series people adored, characters people adored, a setting and story people adored. Sure, it had to take some time to pick up and fully realize what it was, but it created a narrative, and it ended definitely at episode 69 (nice). Afterwards, Balance continued, not in its main plot, but as fan content, as one-shots during live shows, as mentions from the creators, as a graphic novel series and a board game and a campaign setting and, possibly, maybe an animated series at one point. But all of these things are either an extension of Balance's true story or a transfer of its story into different media.
The show Centaurworld was so much fun and had so much color, but it had a story, and it ended, after only two seasons. The show Gravity Falls eventually got a solid grasp on where it was headed, fulfilled that path, then ended, after only two seasons (and Alex has told his fans not to worry about it being 'canceled' - because it never was.) The webcomic Snarlbear, however small of a piece of the internet it was, and however short it was in and of itself, was beautiful, and it had a story, and it ended.
Do that, please? This is mostly guided towards independent creators and storytellers, but popular media too. I won't touch on the MCU in fear of being grabbed by the throat and shook around, byt if you want to continue to 1) monetize or 2) give fans the official content that they love straight from the creators' hands, do so by continuation or replication in different forms AFTER the story has actually concluded.
I'd also like to add that a story that is short and neat does not equal a good, complete story. If your story takes more content to tell, takes more time or breaks for hiatuses in between, requires a couple of different attempts to get it just right, or if your story is -> NOT COMPLETE YET <-, you don't have to end it for the sake of simplicity! Don't cut yourself short! Complicated stories are worthwhile ones too! But there are some times where it's pretty damn obvious that something is being shredded to its last thread and unraveled and torn apart and perversed to such an extent that the new content is an obliged, forced, awkward attempt at bringing back the spark of what it used to be.
Your story doesn't have to be simpsons-long to please the crowd. I promise. You're doing yourself a disservice.
anyway kill dream or w/e is happening right now and cut this thing off god fuck. It's gonna slowly fizzle out and everyone who still enjoys the series will leave or drift away unsatisfied.

11- do you watch your content creator? when he streams at a time we can actually watch him 🙄 (and when we have the energy. loud)
17- how do you feel about duo names? what about your own? honestly i think the oens with my source character are pretty fun lol. me n techno n me n quackitys kinda suck ass but they are clever duo names just. yknow
18- do you like other smps/creators? gem is fun :] n we try to catch other dsmp streamers n shit. otherwise though for me personnally i dont watch that much mc content lol, watching it is fun and all but most of the mc ppl we like are streamers and even with episodic minecraft letsplays its hard to keep up with. brain just wont work with them anymore </3

tfw you dont even watch streams anymore but are unclear whether or not you qualify as a dsmp fan for those dni things bc you dont really interact with the actual creators at all and you dont engage in discourse
but you still enjoy and interact with the fanmade content ?.
AND youve never been one of those crazy stans of anything like the people who put glass in a cupcake and gave it to someone
but you also dont condemn the creators in any meaningful way because youre essentially completely indifferent to them at this point
so youre not a fan of the dsmp in most ways currently, and you’re not a crazy stan, and you dont get into fights with people over it
but you still interact with people who are somewhat in the fandom because friendship, and you still interact with fanart because cool, AND you dont care enough about any individual creator to defend or condemn their actions
i am shrodingers fan

okay mainly making this for my peace of mind cause i saw someone else do this and i kinda wanted to out of curiosity and to take a jog down memory lane
ill start from the minecraft ccs ive watched first to recent and wether i still watch them or not and how much i watched them
2017-2018 maybe even 2016
popularmmos, i used to watch their lucky block races and modded mc with natural disasters those type of videos. i do not watch them anymore and i dont think ive ever like fixated much on them (1)
prestonplays, i forgot what type of videos he made but i think i remember races and that i watched him
same with unspeakable
(1) but i do remember watching them everytime i went to the library to use the computers and i remember this vividly because someone asked me what i was watching once and i said popular em oh em z and spelled it wrong so yeah
2018-2020
skeppy, i watched his 100 kids video and i think it was either him or technoblade that introduced me to the dreamsmp, i think i binged all his i trap 100 kids vids and some trolling vids after early 2020 i think i stopped watching him cause of the a6d drama??? i dont remember
2020-2021
dsmp ccs like dream/tommy/ranboo/techno ect, i saw some dsmp vids on my fyp and i ended up in the dsmp i dont think ive hardcore binged all the lore vids or streams but kinda casually. i am not longer in the dsmp due to lost interest
bedwars ccs, like purpled, wallybear, astellic, gamerboy80 this phase lasted kinda short, for a couple of months i was super invested in their vids on bedwars and i even tried out bedwars for myself but i just was not good at it xd i still watch some of their vids but usually only when they pop up on my recs and i have nothing else to watch
2019-2021
wadzee, i was one of his earlier watchers of his hardcore series when he had like 50k subs i think i dont remember but i was subbed to him and watched all his hardcore series vids but after a while lost interest and unsubbed i do remember the very start of his melon farm though :d
2020-
wilbursoot and his minecraft but videos and his minecraft but i get a random block every some interval idk and his kahoot and geoguessr vids i watched some of his dsmp content but i just didnt really like it so i stopped watching him for a while now thought after his break i still keep up w his vids
techno, ive watched his vids before he joined dsmp im pretty sure but the dsmp made me more invested into his content and i still keep up with his vids
2022-
hermitcraft ccs!! ive been interested in them for a while being around 2 months and they are my current hyperfixation ccs i mainly watch grian, mumbo, etho, bdouble0, scar, zedaph and some others occasionally but them mainly :)
i have been watching mc content for ages though and i’ve probably missed out tons of people and im very sure ive watched mc before 2016 i just dont remember exactly

that bruh moment when both ranboo and tubbo are minors who have stated they are uncomfortable with shipping 🤭🤭
I frankly don't even care about shipping ranboo and tubbo at all, their dynamic is cute but I literally watch 0 dream smp content, I don't care. It's just so stupid that people genuinely feel moral superiority over fictional relationships and actively discourage others from having fun and exploring different things in their small and niche little interest group! It's like I'm back in early 2010s tumblr again.
And yes, these characters are fictional. I know the concept of parasocial relarionships is hard for some people in this fandom to understand but you CAN separate a persona from a person, who you don't know at all and never will, and enjoy their content differently.
CCs are not their characters. CCs are real people who stream for like 6 hours then log off their screen and go back to real life. Their characters are part of a fictional storyline and can have a relationship. Like, we don't hold celebrities when they're acting in roles to the same standard, and they're pretty much the same thing. It's just that online personalities tend to have an extra layer of manufactured authenticity that makes people feel more attached to them. I'm sorry to tell you but your favourite ccs don't need your low effort fandom white-knighting? Especially over some rich privileged content creators who barely go on tumblr, if at all.
And like, using the argument that they're minors is just so condescending to the ccs and imo takes away their accountability. Like, Tubbo /knows/ what kind of reaction he'll get when he says he and Ranboo are husbands. A big, scandalised reaction! Probably from people who want to see some form of representation, or who just want to laugh at a 'haha gay' joke 🙄. Reaction drives views and followers and gains traction. And I'm not saying that as a means to slander him or saying he's queerbaiting, at this point what they're doing is just prevalent in any dream smp mcyt male dynamic. And it's kinda frustrating for reasons others have covered before, but might as well own it ig 🤷‍♀️.

To me its not about phil & scott being good builders its about how no one but them and sneeg have the dedication to like even be on the server for fun, like dsmp is the lore focused one and they barely show for that at all and dont really plan for that at all either (see: ranboos death, wilburs death, november 16th where techno had to push for everything to do with him) like i just have no faith that theyd do anything (like ranboo doesnt upload, wilbur barely uploads, phil rarely uploads, tommy doesnt do series etc)
I think that’s a pretty defeatist mentality honestly
Servers lose steam, projects die out. The Dream SMP has been running for over a year and a half now. That’s pretty long for a server all things considered. SMP Live lasted less than a year, SMP Earth lasted less than a year, Hermitcraft seasons don’t last much longer than a year, hell Mindcrack (the original SMP YouTube series) had seasons that only lasted about a year each.
The problem with comparing the possibility of new servers to the Dream SMP is the fact that you’re comparing it to a server that’s been running for over a year now. That’s not really fair. Like, if you’ve ever watched a Hermitcraft season in full, you’ll see that things just sort of slowly die off until all CCs have agreed they’re finished, or bored, and want to move on. It’s not fair to say the CCs won’t be committed to a new series because they’ve been letting this old one die off when it’s already been active for a perfectly acceptable amount of time. Most open ended Minecraft series don’t have neat or tidy endings, even ones with plots. The progression of the Dream SMP isn’t unnatural, hell, it’s not even unusual. It was created to fill the void made by covid, and now that things have started opening up again, the CCs got busy with other things they couldn’t do before. Right now they’re clearly figuring out how to balance that with content on the server, but in its initial heyday? (I’d say from about August 2020 to February or March 2021, but particularly spiking between September and December 2020) The Dream SMP was very active from most Origins members. The fact that it has plans to continue that are being processed at all is a decent feat for a YouTube SMP series. It’s not well planned, mind you, but I admire the fact that so many general members are still keeping the server itself alive this far into it, especially given the fact that nobody started out with any goals.
Ranboo, Wilbur, and Phil don’t upload much youtube content because they’re primarily streamers. That’s their focus. If Wilbur wants to get back into producing YouTube content with this new series then good for him! I wish him luck! But none of them are inactive with content, just inactive on YouTube. The fact that Wilbur said he wants to make Origins a YouTube series doesn’t even mean anyone else does.
Anyway, all this to say: I don’t agree with the idea that the DSMP members can’t commit to series. A decent amount of them spent like 8 months doing almost nothing but the Dream SMP, I can’t blame any of them for falling out with it. Outside of that and the first Origins, I tend to see people cite Cogchamp and 30 Days as examples of the members lacking dedication, but that’s really only two examples (I’ll give you three if you want to include Tubbo’s Big Dig SMP). I don’t think any of them lack the drive to commit to a series, I think they just lacked a plan of action for those few servers (something they had for the Dream SMP and will have for Origins) and didn’t know where else to go with them.
(I personally don’t even think you can properly count 30 Days as an example. It was a hardcore series and like half of the members just died a couple days in, those were the rules of the game. It was discontinued because basically everyone in the already very small cast weren’t allowed to play anymore after dying.)
