All i said was I find the ship abusive. Which is my opinion. If you ship it, that's awesome. But don't try to portray abuse as a loving relationship. As someone who has been a victim of DV and unhealthy relationships, this is not the take you want to have.

Ship what you want to, just don't say that just because a relationship is unhealthy or abusive doesn't mean they don't love each other. If you love someone, you'd never hurt them. Physically or emotionally.

There's something really interesting about some of the fandoms i'm in:

For some reason, there are popular ships that everyone says "Omg, they're such a cute couple!" And I squint my eyes, trying to see it, but just go:

I am aware this is one, if not THE most popular ship in the fandom, but it just gives of "your friends are saying you're dating x person 'cause you only hang out with them, but, we're actually not and never even thought about it until now, but when we do, we just look at eachother like "wha-?" ".

My actual main ship in this fandom is actually the most hated, and i've been harrassed by some Style shippers, but ykw? I stopped giving af 😎👍

3rd Ship: Rosekiller

I don’t just do romantic stuff but I do platonic stuff too! So don’t feel confined to just romance! I am perfectly okay with self inserting and OCs.

Hmmm, I’m not a fan of it? I don’t mind people who do ship them or fanon portrayals of the ship, and I can say that their dynamic in the show has got to be one of the most interesting interactions of all time from a character writing perspective. I only like interpretations of Ky/man that are portrayed just as they truly are, which is that it’s…..complicated. Complicated being a huge understatement here. I’m not a fan of Ky/man where they’re happy and thriving and living healthy lives, since I find it rather hard to believe. Sure, Assburgers, Faith Hilling and other episodes show them getting along, but then you contrast that with Ginger Cow, Tonsil Trouble and Imaginationland, which throws me out of the loop and makes me uncomfortable. I only like Ky/man being a device to explore Cartman and Kyle’s characters. I am planning to do a non-biased objective view on their dynamic with the utilization of cognitive functions as a sort of test for me to analyze character dynamics and personality conflicts in fiction, but is it still considered a ship if I like their dynamic in-canon, but wouldn’t pair them up together romantically or platonically? Probably not.

That’s totally understandable. I don’t want to start discourse, so I hope this post doesn’t show up in the tags, but yeah - it’s a ship that is toxic at best and at worst, abusive. And I think it’s important for people who DO like it to recognize that. For me, it’s interesting to explore their dynamic but it’s not okay to romanticize it, which many people do. I definitely think Cartman’s obsession with Kyle blurs the lines between hatred/rivalry and intense fixation, and there’s really no way to look at that as healthy, or at all beneficial for Kyle. Cartman is a bigot who is manipulative, selfish, and abusive, and he only gets worse as time goes on... he’s still going to be that way when he’s ten, twenty, thirty years older. Probably worse. It’s not Kyle’s job to spend his adolescence and/or adulthood putting up with that (though I could see him thinking it is - he is, afterall, a martyr type), nor is Kyle obligated to forgive him for anything.

Writing that pairing in a healthy relationship would require both characters to be terribly ooc. And I find that too often, it involves downplaying or excusing Cartman’s actions and giving Kyle the responsibility of compromising his own needs and his own morality, which isn’t okay at all. When I used to write it a long time ago, it was either a toxic dynamic or a one-sided obsession. In the latter case, I literally had readers get upset because Kyle was being “mean” by rejecting Cartman or not forgiving him for his actions/bigotry. Imagine thinking Kyle would be in the wrong for not wanting a relationship with his childhood abuser?

Another thing that bothers me about this ship is that I often see people try to justify Cartman’s actions by claiming Kyle is “just as bad”, or that he somehow made Cartman that way, because of fat jokes. It’s really victim-blamey, tbh. Kyle has made mistakes, he’s certainly not perfect, but he’s not responsible for Cartman harassing and manipulating him. I also see people say it doesn’t count as abuse because Kyle’s too “strong” or “smart” to put up with abuse... as if strong, smart people don’t end up in abusive situations all the time. Big yikes!

I’m definitely not opposed to antagonists becoming sympathetic over time and being deserving of love after redeeming themselves. In fact it’s one of my favorite tropes! I love Prince Zuko and Peridot because they were antagonists who got proper redemption arcs. They worked for their forgiveness and genuinely learned to be better. I have a soft spot for Draco Malfoy because he was a product of his upbringing and got in over his head, like Regulus Black, and was teetering on the edge of having a redemption arc, but JKR didn’t follow through with it. I love Helga Pataki because the show goes out of its way to show her abusive home life, why she is the way she is, and how hollow her name-calling truly is - underneath it’s all, she’s just scared, deeply emotional, and selflessly helps Arnold on countless occasions.

But the difference between all of those characters and Cartman is that he has no desire to become better. He has no more of a tragic backstory than anyone else on that show does. He’s not going to work for forgiveness or genuinely change when he grows up, because he doesn’t think he needs to. He’s not in over his head, he’s the mastermind. He’s never going to selflessly put someone’s needs before his own. The few times he has helped Kyle was for his own personal gain. The way he is, being a genuine sociopath, isn’t going to magically improve when he’s older like so many people seem to want to believe. He’s always going to be like that.

So yeah... I have a lot of thoughts about that ship. I actually think Kyle could easily end up in a situation where he’s with Cartman, like in high school or after reuniting as adults, because I do think Cartman is capable of pretending to change in order to manipulate someone into a relationship (he did exactly that to Heidi, afterall). How long it lasts depends on how easily Cartman can isolate Kyle from his support system or convince him that he doesn’t deserve any better (again, like he did to Heidi). I also think Cartman could grow to “love” Kyle, as much as he’s capable of, which is certainly a twisted, toxic version of love, but it wouldn’t improve his behavior. And eventually, Kyle would leave. He has to, because it genuinely hurts my soul to picture that as his whole future.

... Anyway, lol, that’s a long way of saying I don’t blame you for hating it! For me it’s simultaneously a fascinating ship and one of the worst ones.

You’re allowed to hate whatever ship you want, I’m not telling you to stop, or that you have to love every ship. Even I have ships I just can’t stand for some or another reason

What I want is for antis to stop calling every kyman fan antisemitic. Just stop doing that. Entirely, and completely. Liking kyman doesn’t automatically mean you’re antisemitic.

It is rude to the kyman fans who reject cartmans antisemitism, to the fans who OPENLY and COMPLETELY reject the group that does romanticize antisemitism. Because there’s the group who revels in that disgusting shit, and the group who absolutely loathe it.

And the second group is growing more and more prominent, especially as more understanding and sensitivity towards issues are spread. But either way, it is not the ENTIRE kyman fan base that’s acting in that horrible, offensive way. And there’s plenty of members of the second group who refuse to interact with the members of the first group.

But even more than that, it is downright disrespectful and abhorrent to the Jewish kyman fans. They exist. And when you say “all kyman fans are n*zis” you are indirectly pointing a finger at actual, real Jewish people for the sake of a fictional South Park ship.

This isn’t a defense of kyman the ship or anything. This is literally just speaking the truth: if you call every kyman fan antisemetic, you’re lumping the whole fanbase together and end up calling the Jewish fans antisemetic too. Bc there are Jewish kyman fans. Those are just basic facts.

Like. Hate the ship, that’s fine. Have whatever criticisms you want of it! You don’t even have to try and understand it! Just please be aware of who your blanket statements would cover.

1. sometimes its fun to explore a fucked up relationship! to explore whats wrong with it and how it would work in i ts own awful yet interesting ways. 

2. sometimes... character redemption.. is good. if somebody wants to explore cartman unlearning his bad activity and having a Thing for Kyle, as long as its not with you... shut up, maybe, and just, block the blog, if you can’t handle it. I personally like to explore redemption. And sometimes that can involve Cartman getting a thing for Kyle? in multiple ways!! I really like to explore it!!! Never with somebody who doesn’t want it tho. I respect boundaries and just take a step back if I don’t like something. (trust me. there’s a LOT.)

3. au’s. remember those? i sure do. considering the massive current fad of mirror verse. an au. haha, nice. Things work different in those verses!!!! including things like. Kyman. Wack. Wack wack wack. But hey if u dont like it, u can always. ask them to tag and tag block it or block/unfollow.

i wanna so bad! i find organized crime fascinating, & i’m also a big movie nerd, with crime films being my fav genre, so im super into that sorta thing. definitely would love to see it, but o boy, maybe ill jus write it myself?? gotta do everythin myself haha

i’d def go the historical route, so it’d be interesting to try to both apply characters that are firmly rooted in 90s/2000s behaviors & beliefs, and stick them in the 1900s. oh, boy, writing historical stuff is a pain. so much research. worth it tho, if it’s done well. aye, and it’ll be cool to try to keep it as nonfictional as possible. like, attempting to insert the kids (as adults, obvs) into crime history. i wonder if i could do tht? it’d be fun. it’s definitely uncharted waters. there’s a lot of potential there.

but, hmm, i think mafia aus are so rare in fandom (not just the sp fandom, but across the board) bc they contradict everything that’s popular in fanfic. mob aus would feature violence, business, finances, and corruption. whereas fics prefer cuddles, leisure time, a world where money aint an issue, and wholesomeness. and considering the majority of fic is written by horny and/or love-starved teenage girls who dont know or care about the aforementioned subjects, it makes sense. kinda a bummer, but understandable. in the defense of like everyone, lmao, those sorta fics take a lot of planning, & aint nobody got time. so i get it.

oof i think a major thing too is how gay-centric fic/fandom is, when the mobster world is undeniably a heterosexual one. thats an issue. shit, i wonder how many gay characters i could get away with while keeping it realistic. i mean, im sure there were gay mobsters, in fact i’ve read about a couple, but the lifestyles did not go hand in hand, lol.

cartman would pull a goodfellas - he’s of, what, german descent? hell, considering his parents, he probably wouldn’t even exist in this universe. eh. well. he’d def be from yorkville, manhattan, cuz tht was a german neighbourhood. anyway he’d weasel into the italian mob, bc he’d be into the idea of 1) exorbitant amounts of money, and 2) being feared/respected. his authoritah! psh. and someone would notice how smart he is & mentor him, regardless of nationality. he’d quickly make enemies, though, because he’s rude & brash. he’d also quickly become one of the most respected young dons (would he reach that level, without a family? doubt it. he’d have to become a made man, which i believe is reserved exclusively for italians ….. ehhhh ill figure it out. maybe he’d branch out, start his own crime family. that’d be interesting. ooo.) damn, ukno, i think the 40s would make a real interesting character out of cartman. huh. yah, that’d be cool to explore, how that time period would shape him. like i said, he likely wouldt even exist. did the denver broncos exist back then? doubt it

kyle would get wrapped up in the jewish mob (which existed, and which i’d personally l o v e to be a part of lol - if i was born 100 years ago), maybe while trying to protect ike from getting involved? that’d be cool. maybe he’d demonstrate his brains & be offered a job as an accountant or an attorney, and he’d be forced to comply, either bc 1) his fam was threatened if he declined, or 2) his fam was doing bad financially & needed it. maybe both. hell, maybe he avoids the jewish mob & gets involved with the others. MAYBE IKE IS THE ONE IN THE JEWISH MOB & WANTS HIS BROTHER BACK FROM THE ITALIANS. OOOOOOOOO also they’d be from brooklyn, likely, bc that’s where jews were primarily located back then. u kno there was 400k jews in new york in 1899?? including my great great great grandparents. that’s a shit ton of jews lol. lil fun fact for ya. 

wait ok so oof this is hard now, bc the mob was primarily divided into three chunks - the italians, the jews, & the irishmen. there was also the puerto ricans, but that was, like, a different division. i’m mentioning this because nationality was important to mobsters, to all organized crimes groups actually, but south park doesn’t make a habit of mentioning what countries each character’s ancestors came from, lol. so it’d be a lot of writer interpretation. and that’s cool and all, but doesn’t give me much to work with, considering most of the kids are white and likely german/england-descended.

omg. plot forming. this is def an interesting concept. maybe i can use it as a chance to write a plot-oriented fic that doesn’t rely heavily on ships. that’d be awesome. i’ve wanted to do that for ages.
