hi hi! How did you come up with the idea for __RISK IT? (I'm also not 100% sure I understand what it's about from the synopsis but it sounds intriguing so feel free to talk more about it generally). Also - no rush, no pressure just asking out of curiosity - when do you think you will pick ATN back up?
Hello!! *waves* Hope everything’s going well. ^_^
So, funny thing about ___RISK IT -- it came about purely out of spite. 😅 No but seriously, I read one book of this series and really liked it, and then I read the second book and was kinda disappointed, and then I read the third and was incensed. Just went in a direction that I really, really disliked. I guess it had sorta been telegraphed from the beginning but also I felt like the author kinda was writing based on reviews and it just... annoyed the crap out of me. So I was like, ‘well, if you dislike it that much, why don’t you write what you would’ve preferred to read?’ and then I took a few bits and pieces from other abandoned ideas and cobbled them together. :D I’m not entirely sure what will come of it, because I have this thing where I start a WIP and then want to throw absolutely everything into it and it becomes to complicated and then I abandon it (ooops), but there’s a loose plot for most of it and I do like what I have so far, so that’s something! ^_^
As for ATN -- first, thanks so much for asking about it, makes me grin like an idiot when people remember some of my stuff! ^_^ I’d planned to look at it over this uni break (the end of which is rapidly approaching D:) because I kinda think I need a decent whack of time to overhaul it into something that works. The pacing is all over the place and I’ve got some repetitive scenes where the characters are basically just having conversations (which, surprise surprise, is my favourite thing to write 🙄), so I wanna rejig a lot of that. There’s also the deletion of characters from the first half (which changes the pacing again) and the way I wanna incorporate some worldbuilding (without fucking up the pacing), so it... I guess it feels like it’s a huge job and I’m a little intimidated by it?
Honestly, though, I really should just start and see how I go. I haven’t even done a full reread of it yet, which really should be the first thing. I dunno. I have a vague idea of what I want to do this year (short version: with starting a double degree and the amount of work I have to do to live, I’m not sure how much time I’ll have, so I’m leaning towards just writing whatever the hell strikes me (one scene from a random idea, another for something else if it occurs to me; basically not focusing on any particular WIP, just getting words on the page for anything and everything) but in saying that an editing focus could also work. 🤔 So, essentially -- no solid plans for when at the moment, but it is definitely on my mind! :D
How are things going with you? Anything exciting with SCIF you’d like to yell about? I’m loving all the character interactions you’ve been posting, you’ve definitely got a talent for getting across a helluva lot of characterisation in very little time. :D

You sigh as you swing your legs back and forth from the countertop you were sitting on. Currently, you, Renjun, Chenle, and Jeno were all at Hyuck's house hanging out. Your sigh catches the attention of Renjun which prompts him to ask "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing." You say, trying to brush it off.
He furrows his eyebrows. "It's not nothing. If it's bothering you this much why don't we talk about it?"
You pout at him, hoping he'll pick up a sign that you don't want to, but still he insists that you tell him what's wrong.
"Well.." You mumble. "Jisung said he wanted to talk to me tonight.."
"Sorry, what?" Renjun asks. "I didn't hear you."
"Jisung said.. he wanted to meet up to explain everything." You say, a little louder this time.
"Jisung what?!" Renjun exclaims, getting the attention of everyone else in the room.
You sigh in defeat as you watch Jeno tense at the name of his ex-friend.
"What's this about Jisung?" Jeno asks.
"Nothing." You mumble, trying to find something else to talk about.
"No no, it's okay. I won't be upset." Jeno reassures. "What about Jisung?"
"He wanted to clear up a few things with me." You answer, glancing at the clock propped up on Hyuck's kitchen wall.
Donghyuck seems to notice how fast your eyes move and asks "Tonight?"
"Yeah. In like an hour or so actually." You confirm.
"Are you sure you want to go?" Renjun asks you.
"Well.. yeah. I kinda want an explanation."
"Are you sure?" Chenle asks. "Like, one hundred percent sure?"
"Yeah?" You nod, confused on why they seemed so concerned with you meeting up with Jisung again.
"Why?" He asks.
"I literally just told you why." You answer, annoyance prominent in your voice.
"Okay." Chenle says, backing off, hands raised in defense.
"Do you, uh, need a ride?" Donghyuck asks, hoping to clear the air a bit.
"Yeah, sure." You agree, hopping off the kitchen counter. It takes him back a little, he wasn't expecting that kind of response, especially that quickly.
"Oh, uhh, now?" He asks as he watches walk towards his hallway.
"Uh, yeah?" You say as he looks at his two friends and his boyfriend confusingly. They shrug in response. You can hear Chenle say "Hey man, you offered to drive. Not us."
You pause in between the end of the hallway and the entrance to the kitchen to watch the four boys start to quarrel.
"Jeno, you'll come with me, right?" Donghyuck asks and Jeno shoots him a look.
"Are you insane?" Jeno responds. "I don't wanna talk to him."
"You're not going to talk to him. Y/n is."
"Okay, then I don't want to see him."
"Fine." Donghyuck scoffs, before turning his head to look at Renjun and Chenle who were already saying no.
"What are you gonna do?" He asks them.
"We're gonna watch your house. Duh." Chenle responds.
"Actually. They're gonna watch your house." Renjun corrects, pointing at Jeno and Chenle. "I'm going to watch Chenle."
"Whaaat!! That's not fair!" He protests.
"I trust Jeno more than you." Renjun retorts back.
Donghyuck sighs in defeat. "Fine. Just don't do anything stupid." He says, turning to walk towards you and you can see the three boys cheer behind him. It causes you to giggle, and Donghyuck is just happy you're happy.
Once out of his house and into his car he asks you where you're going. You tell him not to worry and that you'll just give him the directions on how to get there. It only worries him more.
"I dunno y/n. It seems kinda sketch."
"Listen I know you don't trust the guy, but you trust me, right?" You ask.
"Yeah.."
"Then trust me, that it'll be okay."
"Okay." He sighs. "You lead the way."
Tumblr media
"Are you sure you don't want me to stay?" Donghyuck asks as you step out of the passenger seat to his car.
"Yeah. I'm sure." You sigh.
"Okay.. Just. Call me if you need me. I'll be nearby, okay?"
"I'll be fine, Hyuck. Don't worry."
"Whatever you say.." He mumbles before rolling up his window and driving away.
Walking to the only other human like figure around you, you start to wonder if Jisung is really worth your time. Sure you missed the time you spent together, all the hours in the library studying and having stupid debates over the simplest things like, the best ice cream flavor, or how to write the number eight. Yeah you missed it, but was it really worth going back to? You could do these with anyone, even the new friends you've made so far this year. But for some reason, it was different with Jisung.
Maybe it's because you did like him. Or maybe it's because he was really different from your other friends. Yes you love Hyuck, and Renjun, and Chenle to death but it was nice having someone else to talk to, someone who didn't know everything about you, someone you could make different memories with.
"You came.." He says. It's not loud, but it's not quiet either. It's enough to snap you out of your thoughts though.
"Yeah." You nod. "I wanna know.. the truth. And only the truth."
"Do you promise to believe me?" He asks.
You don't respond for a second, you just stare at him with a blank face. You can tell that his eyes are shaky and you can't tell if he's about to cry or not.
"I don't want to make a promise I can't keep."
Needless to say, you could practically feel Jisung's heart shatter.
"Okay." He nods. "Where do you want me to start?"
"I don't know? The beginning?"
"Oh.. Right." He mumbles. "Well um.. You- You see.. It started like- uhm- like."
"So are you gonna tell me or are you just going to keep stalling?"
"Uhh."
"I mean. I can wait, I do have all night for your information." You spit, crossing your arms. "Do you? Or do you have another date planned after this? Y'know, one where you lied to another other girl too?"
"I- What? I don't have another 'date' after this.." He defends. "I've.. I've been alone for the past month and a half.. What are you talking about?"
"So I've heard."
"Look." Jisung sighs, you notice that he looks tired. "I don't wanna fight. Can we just start over?"
"Okay Park Jisung, we can do whatever you want." You scoff. "Hi! I'm y/n l/n, I came to have a conversation. Are we going to have one, or not?"
"You want me to start at the beginning?" He yells. "Fine then! I'll start at the beginning. I'll tell you whatever the fuck you wanna hear!"
"It's true! In the beginning of the school year I was bored and was looking for someone to date. But then I met you! And you were different!"
"Oh yeah? Well I bet you tell that to every girl you meet!" You yell back at him.
Ignoring what you said, Jisung decides to continue. "For some reason something clicked with you. I don't know what it was and I don't remember when, but something just clicked. You really were different. I started enjoying your company a lot more and everything just felt right.. around you."
"This is bullshit." You mumble before turning to walk away. Part of you didn't want to leave because you knew what he was talking about, something clicking. The other part of you decided that this was probably all a lie. "If he's lied to me before he'll do it again." You think trying to convince yourself to leave.
"I'm sorry, Jisung." You sigh. "I really want to believe you, trust me, I do. But you've told me things before.. and you lied to me about them. So who's to say that you aren't lying to me right now?"
There's no response. He just looks at you and you can see the small bits of hope leave his eyes. "Okay." You sigh with a nod before turning to leave. You get pretty far away when you hear him yell your name in attempt to get you to stop walking away from him. "Before you go.. can I please just tell you something?"
You let out a tired sigh. "What is it?"
"You don't have to believe me." He starts. "But you remember that night we spent together? The one right here? In this exact spot?"
You nod. "You mean the night that you lied to me?"
Your words sting, but he decides to continue anyways, trying his best to not show how much that hurt him.
"I meant everything I said that night.. All those words I said were true y'know.." He whispers. "I miss you."
"I miss seeing how your eyes lit up.. And I miss seeing your smile.. I still see it every now and then, but it's not directed at me and it just hurts. I miss our silly disagreements and how we'd drag them on for what felt like ages. I miss driving you home because even though they were silent drives I felt safe and comfortable with you there. It didn't have to be loud like when I drove around with my other friends. I miss the little dates we went on, and ye-yes you'll never hear me say it again but they were all dates. I miss that day at the mall.. before everything went down. Do you remember?" He asks.
You nod again. This time it's smaller and more subtle.
"Y'know.. That's the day I started realizing I liked you." He admits.
Closing your eyes you whisper, "Stop talking."
But he doesn't listen. He just continues.
"You were playing some dumb game.. I don't remember if it was a claw machine or ski ball but it was something.. You were so focused. You even stuck your tongue out a little.. you got so into it."
"Stop talking." You say again, louder this time.
"You looked so pretty.." He sighs. "And you were so excited when we raised enough tickets to get a bag of candy for ourselves. They kicked us out because we sat on the air hockey table, remember? I don't know if they'll ever let us back in there, but it was fun while it lasted." He laughs.
"I said stop talking!" You practically yell, turning to face towards him.
"Why?" He asks, giving you a sad look.
"Because I don't want to remember that day." You sigh.
"Why?" He asks again.
"I don't wanna say why."
He takes a step closer to you. "You can tell me anything."
You sigh in defeat.
"Did you feel it too?" You ask him and he nods.
"So you know?"
"I do."
"Then why do I have to say it?" You ask.
"Because if you say it, then it's like you're accepting the truth."
"I don't like how you know what I feel." You mumble to yourself as he takes another step closer.
"What if I don't.. say it?" You ask.
"Then just give me a sign." He says.
"Do you miss me?" He asks. By this point the sun has gone done, and if weren't only you two here you probably wouldn't have heard him.
You nod. "I do."
"Are you mad at me?" He asks.
You nod again. "I am."
"That's okay." He says. "I understand."
This time, you take a step back.
"Do you wanna be mad at me?"
Instead of responding this time, you ask, "Why do you get to ask all of the questions?"
"I never said you couldn't ask any." He says while you shoot him a glare.
"Okay then." You start, deciding you were going to play this little game with him. Taking a step forward you ask, "Why did you choose me?"
He shrugs. "I dunno. You were new."
You scoff at his response. "Predictable."
Thinking of a better question to ask him, you say, "How can I believe you?"
"You can't." He responds. "You just have to trust me. Do you trust me?"
"I do."
He nods.
"Okay."
"Do you trust me?" You ask him, breaking the pattern you two have created.
"I do." He says, echoing your answer.
You nod.
"Okay."
"So.. What now?" He asks.
"What do you mean?"
"What do we do now?"
"Ah." You sigh. "That's what you meant."
"Well.. Yeah." He says. "I don't know if you know this but.. this is the closet we've been ever since.. what happened. Yet it's still the furthest we are from each other."
"Can you just shut up, for once?" You ask, voice playful in tone.
Jisung hears it and he gives you a small smile, liking the sudden change in atmosphere. "I dunno.. Will I?" He jokes.
"You're silly." You say, while a smile starts to form shortly after.
"..Can we start over?" He asks, and you can tell he's being serious.
He looks scared. Nothing like the same boy who you saw just a second ago, the one who was starting to be comfortable with you again.
"I'd understand if you didn't want to. Or if you don't want anything to do with me anymore after this. I just thought.. it'd be the right thing to ask."
"Do you promise not to break my heart?" You ask.
"Only if you promise not to break mine." He responds with a smile.
"No promises." You say, grabbing his hand and interlocking it with yours.
"Hey!" He exclaims. "You can't do that!"
"Yes I can. I just did."
"I'll take this as a yes then?" He asks, a giggle following afterwards.
"Yeah. You can take this as a yes."

I'm writing a Riverdale fanfic (Jarchie mainly, with Beronica on the side) which is one of my first proper fanfics ever. Any general tips or maybe even just tips for being brave enough to actually, you know, share it? I'm feeling so awkward about this entire thing!
Can I first start of with saying: so much kudos to you for wanting to put your fic up! Fandoms getting new fics and writers is always a huge YES because we always need more & definitely welcome it ^_^(This definitely ended up being really long, but I made a list further down if you don’t wanna read all my rambling. I’m not sure what specifically you’re feeling awkward about, but I covered a bunch of stuff :))
Reading this I was like, I’m probably not the best person to ask because I have really bad anxiety ?? but then I was like, actually, you know, that’s why I’m probably one of the best people to ask because HOW the HELL do I manage to do this despite that? And honestly it involves a lot of self-talk + bravery + a fuck-it-I’m-gonna-do-it-who-cares mood. And I have a feeling this post is going to be rather long, but I’ll just talk through my own experience and what I’ve told myself, and maybe it’ll help you (or someone else) as well. :D
(I decided to put this under cut IT’S SO LONG IM SORRY (& if you’re on mobile I’m even more sorry t_t)
I’ve actually been writing stuff for YEARS. I started fanfics in middle school, before that I was writing my own little stories. Little me in primary school and early middle school, so badly wanting to be a writer (I RP’d a lot between 07-10 as well). But I never shared my writing. SOMETIMES with close friends, if I bought up an original story and they were interested I would send it to them. Otherwise, I wasn’t about to share it with anyone. ESPECIALLY not my fanfics when I started. A lot of my earliest have gone unseen by the world (and myself for years). I’m sure this may apply to a lot of people if you’ve written stuff for years, regardless what type of writing it is. I don’t know if you’ve written other stuff before anon, but if you haven’t that’s okay because we all gotta start somewhere & if you want to share it right away that’s one hell of an achievement and damned awesome. On the other hand, if it’s taken a while, that’s great too. Either way, sharing can be one hell of an anxiety inducing situation.
Okay, so when it came to finally posting stuff up, I’d definitely been writing a while, but at this point I knew I really wanted feedback on my writing, and to see if people enjoyed it, so that was a huge factor in me sharing it online. I’d never find out what people thought if I kept it to myself forever. Critique can sometimes be tough (just before my ImperialRemnant account on AO3 I wrote fanfic elsewhere and definitely had “this sucks” reviews - which isn’t so much a critique, but actually being a dick because they weren’t helpful - and definitely had fics that did rather terribly - still do - but it’s all a learning process & you eventually get used to it).
It’s also important where you post it, AO3 would be best of jarchie and beronica, as well as tumblr. Fanfic.net usually does better with gen fics. They’re the only ones I use, although I have accounts on some other sites I still gotta go on.
So I’ll go through things you should remember if you’re nervous about putting up fics (and things I have to remind/tell myself constantly)::
1. I’ll start with the fact you’ll definitely get reviews/comments/critique like I said previously. But most people are REALLY REALLY nice, so don’t freak out (I tell myself, as I’m trying to rationalise), and I haven’t had anything terrible since making my ImperialRemnant account on AO3 or fanfic.net. And there are always times your fics won’t get any comments at all– and that’s fine too! I’ve had that happen to me, and in the long run, it doesn’t feel like a huge biggy??Also, sometimes people aren’t gonna like what you do and they’ll say that, but that takes me to a second point–
2. It’s not your problem if somebody doesn’t like something. This is really important to know. You wrote the fic because it’s a concept you wanted to write, and something you really wanted to share and that’s amazing. You put tags on everything in your fic, so the person will go in and know what to expect, so if somebody does say something, then it’s like… “it was in the tags/summary? Why did you read this then? Wtf?” then 0% your fault. (Tagging’s important guys! I do find it hard so if you do too then try! You’ll usually be fine).
3. In regards to quality of fic, there’s definitely is a lot of amazing stuff out there, and that’s overwhelming. But you gotta know, there’s a lot of bad stuff too. I hate to say it, because it’s the nice thing to say all fic is good, but the reality is that’s not true. Your fic may not be the best (hey it may be damn amazing I haven’t seen it xD), but there’s a damn good chance it’s not going to be the worst either. Say to yourself this fic isn’t terrible, it’s fine. Your quality will improve over time anyway when you grow as a writer (Lord forbid there’s stuff from a year ago I published and I’m like… why did I do that…but that brings me to the next point).
4. SOMEBODY WILL LOVE YOUR FIC, I GUARANTEE THIS. I didn’t know this at first but learnt it quickly and have to remind myself EVERY TIME. Even if, later, you’re going “oh god that fic was a dumb idea”, there will be someone, at some point, who will have loved it and enjoyed it and wished there was more. It may just be one or two people but goddammit your audience is always gonna start small, and if it stays that way it will always be worth it for someone (that someone can be yourself too!). The best feeling is when somebody gets excited from your updates (HUGE reason why people should leave comments if they love a fic, because there’s a lot of people who are passive readers even when they love love LOVE a fic & just leave a kudos, definite issue. But I hope as a fandom we can not be like that?).
5. Your writing is not going to be perfect to you, it’ll never be perfect, you’ll be sure there’s a way something could be written better, but maybe you don’t know how to make it better (especially if you don’t have a beta!). I never expect fics, when I go in to read them, to be perfect. No writer is perfect, even properly published writers. You’re going to have to tell yourself it’s the best you can do RIGHT NOW for THIS fic. Put it through an editing program maybe if it’ll make you feel better (I use prowritingaid sometimes?) or leave the fic and go through it later. It’s gonna be fine.
6. Don’t expect much at first. Sometimes first fics can be very successful for people, but there’s a shit-ton of people where this doesn’t happen and it takes a while. When I first put fics up on AO3 they only got less than 10 kudos or something? You will eventually write something that a lot of people may love, but it can take a while. I think… well I’ll give you an example with the Star Wars fandom– I first wrote TFA & Kylux on AO3 before The Force Awakens had even come out, so obviously I didn’t get a lot of attention. When the movie came out, there was few fanfics but I was already there so a lot of people would read my fics (dunno if they liked them, but since they were some of the ONLY ones that existed they didn’t have much choice ;P). If you’re writing fics in a growing fandom you might be more likely get more attention later on your fics, if only because there’s few choices. Some of my fics still have barely any kudos, but I have nearly 60 fics and they’re gonna be a hit or a miss (& they eventually gather more kudos overtime, so even the worst fics have at least a few). With Jarchie, I was actually surprised I got as many as I did, but this fandom’s in the process of growing and I assume a lot of people are reading all the new fics?? It’s probably good for you actually, to right now put a fic when people are reading it and into it.
6. It gets easier. Man, I ain’t even kidding, the first time I was putting up a fic I was freaking out like mad, going back and forth between the tag, mouse hovering over the publish button, re-reading a billion and ten times. It was ~kinda~ easier in a fandom where nobody was reading the fics because you definitely don’t expect much, but there were a couple of people who definitely enjoyed the series I was writing once I’d put some stuff up. And as time went on, it got much more easier. There’s a huge gap of time I didn’t put any fics up and it was hard to update again, but now that I did it, it’s once again easier to do it. I still have internal battles with myself over it, but it’s quicker to get over it and much easier to win.
7. I forgot a note so I’m just gonna add it quickly. But if you’re really weird about it, you can first send it to a friend to look over, or a mutual or something. Or, since I myself never could do that, just tell someone about the idea– and I suggest telling someone you know won’t make a negative comment about it. Sometimes a “that sounds interesting” or “that sounds cool” can be even a little helpful. If you’re lucky, might even go a long way.
Honestly, my mind goes through a whole lot of panic, and sometimes it just takes a good mental day, and some excitement about the concept of my fic, to be able to be brave enough to finally put something up. I usually have low expectations when I share it (being a pessimistic person by nature, so as not to disappoint myself), but I’m like… somebody’s gonna like it at some point, it’s not the worst fic I’ve ever seen, it’ll be okay. And if a fic doesn’t do well, then you just need to put it behind and move on (repress memories haha). Leave it up, don’t take it down, somebody may eventually come across it and love it, but there’s no harm done having fics that don’t do well. It might just be that it’s not gonna appeal to most people, and that’s okay.
At the end of the day your fic’s gonna be okay. There’s a bunch of amazing, unique, horrendously weird, terrible, awful fics out there and the last thing you need to feel is awkward. I know this ended up being a monster of an essay but I hope it’s helped, even a little.
tl;dr? No need to feel awkward, sit yo ass down and just fuckin’ do it. Shit’s crazy.
