Oooh what are your thoughts about toh finale 👀 bring on the salt 😤
Alright everybody, buckle your fucking seatbelts.
First thing's first, I think that this show was suffering from major story-related issues that started as far back as mid-season 2. My problems start officially with Elsewhere and Elsewhen, because this is where I feel the show dropped the ball on one of the most important elements of any piece of media: its villain.
I firmly believe that a story is only as good as its villain, and up until this point, The Owl House had been doing an amazing job with Belos. The audience was kept in the dark about the true nature of his backstory, but, crucially, with enough material and hints provided to extrapolate the nature of it before it was revealed.
And many, many people came to the same conclusions. Luz, our lovable protagonist since day one, has had to come to her own grips with her weirdo-hood, the fact that she's not a Chosen One, that this world doesn't operate by the laws of her fantasy books. What better way for our villain to be than to have him directly foil this? Prior to Elsewhere and Elsewhen, this was the main thought about Philip Wittebane. Someone just like Luz, ostracized from his community in a much more visceral and potentially violent way, who also found sanctuary and some kind of acceptance on the Boiling Isles, before something causes him to become the Emperor we know today.
Elsewhere and Elsewhen and Hollow Mind essentially took this idea and spat in its face. The villain they gave us had absolutely zero depth, and was outright stated in the finale to be just that: only evil and deluded.
Even with the look into Philip and Caleb's life provided in Thanks to Them, the finale still took this and did what? Absolutely nothing with it. I just have no idea why they would put that much effort into giving Philip a backstory that's as potentially sympathetic as what we see, only to write him off as evil and only evil.
I've seen other people lauding this choice, because "good for them for showing us that not everybody has to be redeemed!" I am not saying that Belos could have or should have been redeemed, in fact, I had been rooting for him to die since the early seasons, a good death befitting of a good villain. Actually examining his backstory and fleshing him out as a character does not mean he would have been redeemed! If the Owl House's moral is that "people are complex", this would have aided in the delivery of that message!
Instead, what we got was three specials full of nothing but hot air, a gigantic amount of screentime devoted to a character that always felt like a shoehorn-in at best with the Collector, and the most disappointing, anticlimactic villain defeat I've ever seen in my life. And yes, I know there are people who loved it and think that this series can do no wrong. I acknowledge that this show is incredibly important culturally and that it was unfortunately limited by its cancellation. But this does not protect it from any and all criticism, especially when said criticism has to do with the integrity of the plot and the overall message of the show.

batman really just be saying shit. "killing the joker will make you the same as him"
like oh yes of course. you're definitely on par with a man who's killed thousands of innocents because you killed one person. bitch please. you're telling me bruce being a pussy enabler is why thousands of people die at the hands of one person? he should just go to therapy after killing the joker if it's that big of a deal. if you're gonna take on a role as serious and God-like as Batman/hero, you need to accept that you have to do immoral and messed up things. there's no reason to really make batman so strictly Moral if the supervillains he fights really show no shame in mass murdering and torturing innocents- innocents in a city that he swears is his and his to protect.
in a universe like dc where supervillains (+people who work with chemicals that aren't usable in the real world) exist and absolutely cannot be tied down in prison, killing is likely one of the only ways to keep cities safe. like sorry but batman has to kill the joker, a mass murderer, if he wants gotham to become a safer place. it's that or create an indestructible prison that no villains can escape from no matter what. which surprisingly hasn't been made yet, from what i know, despite all the amazing tech bruce has and can afford

Chloe Addams AU:
- First and foremost, she's still a brat lmao. But like, the brat from season 2 and season 3-ish. After the Miracle Queen incident, the Bourgeois family decided to pack up for a bit and visit family. For this to work I need to make Andre a... decent human. Not father, idk I'm still thinking about it lol.
- Addams, far relatives but relatives still. They're invited to an event and Andre immediately accepts to lessen the media's heat on their family for a while. Chloe wasn't all that enthusiastic but she didn't have a choice. She was never good around relatives but she was good around parties so..
- Wednesday is annoyed at her immediately. Chloe feels strongly the same.
-Their first meeting is during the gathering (original, I know) and Chloe complains how the decorations and aesthetic were so last season and Wednesday is offended.
- "I don't think someone decked in glitter and yellow, of all monstrosities, should comment on the Addams decorations if you want to return home whole."
- Chloe blinks, "Geez, goth chic much?"
- They're escorted to a room after almost knocking down the blood cake on the center table. Chloe is whining and telling her father 'she tried to kill me' and Wednesday is sighing in relief. Glad one of her favorite knives weren't used on her...cousin...of all people. She'd have to find a new knife.
- "Ehem." A blank stare. "Apologize." A blink, "I suppose my talent for scaring people off includes making them an idiot with merely a point of a knife." "Excuse me?! I'm not an idiot and you should apologize for calling yellow a monstrosity!"
- "Monstrosity is being too kind. It's a fucking piece of shit."
- "Why you little bitch, you're more annoying than Dupain-Cheng! And she's a little goody two shoes."
- Wednesday pauses in her retort. Huh. "You also have someone who is the definition of good and kind?"
- Chloe blushes, "I don't have her! I-I mean, it's not like that! She's just too good and a suck up that she doesn't event return- she's just fucking annoying, alright?"
- Just like Enid, if this blonde brat was describing this mystery person in true Addams fashion. Wednesday was having some troubles regarding her planned courtship of the werewolf but...it wouldn't hurt to know another perspective of another Addams member. For now, she wouldn't kill her.
This will be mostly crack lol.

yknow what in retrospect i'm kind of glad the "i love you" got cut from goodbye stranger simply because if they'd included a canon love confession on top of all the blatant romantic subtext of season 8 and then gone "lol they're just friends destiel isn't real you freaks" i would have blown up the earth

When I think about Minkowski, Eiffel, Hera and Lovelace post-canon, the relationship I imagine is something that could be described as a group queerplatonic relationship. As I like to think about it (and other people are obviously entirely free to think about it differently), the relationships are entirely platonic, but they prioritise each other, they take care of each other, they live together (although with a fair amount of individual comings and goings), and they are the most important people in each other's lives. External people tend to wonder who is dating who in that house and are surprised to learn that no one is. But I don't think they'd feel the need for a term like QPR. I don't think they'd be searching for that language to describe their dynamic to the world or to each other.
Of course, I also think of them under the term 'found family', but I'm not sure they'd use familial language either. I think they'd leave that unspoken. And words like 'friends' and 'housemates' - while true - don't fully capture who they are to each other.
In fact, when I'm thinking about how they describe their relationships to each other post-canon, the word that I keep coming back to is that they are a crew.
They are still a crew post-canon. But "crew" means something different now that the station is gone. "Crew" had already started to mean something different while they were up there. (See this post.) It's a choice now. It had already started to be a choice while they were up there. Once, "crew" described their shared relationship to the Hephaestus. Now it only describes their relationships to each other.
I think Minkowski definitely still calls them "her crew". And the others end up doing so too, although perhaps to a lesser extent. Sometimes it's in a casual or joking way: talking about"Crew Movie Nights", or despairing "Does no one else in this crew know how to load the dishwasher?" Sometimes it's in a purely internal way: thinking "I ought to head home - the crew will be wondering where I've got to", or ranking "Keeping my crew safe" at the top of a mental list of priorities. Sometimes it's in a serious way: asserting "I won't let the crew down", or saying "You'll always be a part of this crew" as an act of reassurance in moments of doubt and fear.
And when they call each other a crew, it means family and commitment and love and responsibility and trust and care. It means all those things that Goddard Futuristics didn't care about when it gave them that word.
There's a kind of reclamation in that, in turning a piece of that military language into something different and beautiful outside of that context, in knowing "The mission was a lie, the station was a deathtrap, but some of the people I met up there are my people now."

so what's hot classical music?
LMAO I'm so glad you asked (I imagine it's in reference to my tags on this post). I'd like to note that this is a very subjective list but I hope you enjoy:
Fratres by Arvo Pärt: No, I won't stop shilling this stunning gorgeous piece. You can absolutely craft a sex scene to this song just based on the contrasting sections. I know because I've written more than one while listening to it.
Czardas by Vittorio Monti: The drama of the first part is hot stuff. The vibrato. The lowkey encouragement to do some glissandos even if it isn't in the actual sheet music. The use of the g string.
Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2: I love the slow swell in the beginning and then the sweepingly romantic first movement that brings to mind being swept onto the dance floor and executing a really slow, stately waltz (but not a waltz because I believe it's in cut time and not 3/4).
Piazzola's Libertango: Definitely a more in-your-face hot because it's, well, a tango. Very passionate. Great beat.
Por Una Cabeza by Carlos Gerdel: Okay maybe I was influenced by that scene in Scent of a Woman with Al Pacino but it's great. Very romantic.
Salento by René Aubry: This is modern classical, a little more chill. There's this sustained, almost hypnotic rhythm that the guitars have going on and I think adds to a lowkey sultriness.

droners might have some flaws but i really think that if someone wants to write a proper rivals to lovers dynamic then they should study whatever hannah and corto have as a reference
#like just. i have heard a bunch of people complain about enemies to lovers dynamics sometimes accidentally turning out to just be toxic#because of the writers not nailing down the jackpot of the hostility from both parties being balanced#and also other reasons. and i myself have my own too. bcs its just not an easy dynamic to write#but genuiely so far? so far these two have none of these issues#their relationship goes from hating each other to considering each other a more respected rival to genuine friends in a great way that-#-doesnt feel rushed or unnatural#and they're unified by having far more similarities than you'd think they'd have at first glance. which was both why they hated each other#and why they work so great now that they're friends#AND their haterism towards each other back when they werent friends was very balanced and equal. they both hated each others guts lmao#and now that they're friends they still bicker but it was said directly that now its just how they act when racing is involved & theyre-#competing against each other. like that one 'best friends off court sworn enemies on it. athletes understand' meme#and outside of it they're genuiely friends and like each other#and EVEN DURING RACING. HAVE YOU SEEN THE MECHANIX RACE#their bickering during the race is pure fun for them they're LAUGHING TOGETHER it's so great#PLUS THE SHOW WENT OUT OF ITS WAY MORE THAN ONCE TO SHOW HOW WELL THEY CAN SYNCHRONIZE.#HOW WELL THEY CAN WORK TOGETHER.#i could say more. i could say more about them. but just know that the droners yuri is real#for the record though they're not. canon. i dont want to queerbait anyone on accident.#but i havent seen a single fan that wouldnt agree that they have something going on there#which even with a fandom this small is saying something

Reason #???? Why Iruma is great,
They take the whole trope of a character choosing not to tell others about a thing only to later be shamed for it and treated like it’s a bad thing and chuck it out the window.
Instead saying that it is perfectly alright not to tell everyone (yes even your closest friends) everything. You’re allowed your secrets and being respected for that choice.
That being friends can mean both being able to tell them anything you want/need to but also equally means being able to feel comfortable not having to share in everything and keep secrets.
Which is especially important given a big part of the series is our main character Iruma dealing with having to keep the big secret that he’s actually human and not a demon (and being terrified of what may happen should they find out)
Which comes to conflict when he starts to consider should he tell his friends the truth? Leading to him having a talk with Azz’s mom who basically questions and brings up the whole idea of ‘is a friend someone you HAVE to tell everything too?’

thinking about iterators who want to destroy themselves
not out of the desire to ascend, but simple frustration, or guilt, or some other raw emotion, driving them to what feels like madness
their taboos prevent them from doing any substantial damage, but they try nonetheless
shutting off water conduits, allowing slag to build up and parts to overheat. provoking their own inspectors with false danger signals to make their can attack itself. running too many redundant processes at once, but not increasing their water intake to keep up
they feel it in their whole structure, burning and piercing pains radiating through the vast body that isn't quite theirs. it hurts, but it's what they want. whether they understand why, who knows
and afterward?
there's nothing to repair them. the damage is already done. a conflux chamber that corrupts data more often than usual, a power rail that can't deliver as much as it once did, neurons whose storage has noticeably diminished. the aftermath builds up with every time they break
and they can do nothing about it.

think i might have said something to this degree before but it's a shame Beau dies before he ever gets to meet/interact with Mimi. i think they could have kind of an endearing friendship, barring Beau being. yknow. her husband's affair partner KRKFN but ignoring that, she'd probably find him to be very funny and sweet, at least in small doses. i think they'd click to the point Vincent would feel weird about it lol.
i once thought abt an AU where Beau is alive long enough to go to New York n meet Mimi and i think that'd be fun horror all on its own, though. meeting someone that she initially really likes, then getting weird vibes about his relationship to her husband, and then the slow dawning realization of "something is deeply wrong with this man and i'm scared' while Vincent seems to be completely blind to the idea that anything is wrong and there's very little she can do. tis a fun concept. too bad i can't use it

call me crazy but feel like rog does remember his and v’s anniversary. did he do anything, ever, for his and laura’s, other than toasting burke in prison (by himself)? no he did not. could he tell you her birthday after ten years of marriage? probably not. however. v melts into an absolute puddle even if he does the barest possible minimum on her birthday / anniversaries / etc. ditches work to stay with her and surprise her with flowers. wakes her up with smooches & breakfast in bed ( he did not make it he's just delivering ). anniversaries they'd definitely take off to boston or new york for the weekend, birthdays though she'd want to spend at home. not for a party oh god forbid but just to be surrounded by family, maybe some time out on the boat, a little séancing to hang out with her ghost besties too.
not to be all "she was born in a wet cardboard box all alone" but having hard dates to celebrate, and feeling really loved on the birthday she has, the real anniversary she has, is soooo important to her. she needs those tangible markers to hold onto. and it's not like taking his pretty little wife out dancing is a chore, either.
