Jimin had that look on his face and the way he bit his lip, you could immediately tell he was not expecting you to reject him again for dinner. It was only 6 o’clock but you didn’t want to ruin your appetite for your date. You admittedly felt excited for it. You hadn’t been on a date in over a year, having resorted to one night stands made it easier since you never had time for a relationship. Any guy who had attempted often left upset at being put on the waitlist in priorities sense you worked two jobs.
To be honest you didn’t know what to tell any of them. It’s not that you were never interested or you had side pieces. You just worked the 3rd shift at a psych ward and 1st and 2nd at a bakery leaving you with four hours of sleep on a good day. Which you didn’t want to spend awake for a movie, or a walk in the park. Especially at some god awful fancy restaurant.
You supposed it was ironic sense that was exactly where you were being took but the difference was it was an actual upper class restaurant with food that was the price of your monthly rent. Jimin didn’t know any of this though. And quite frankly you figured it was for the best, he had been persistent about getting you to atleast eat with him.
You’d admire his effort but regardless he was going to be your step brother. You couldn’t live knowing you slept with him even if it was before your parents got married. You were warming up to the idea but not enough to ever fall through with it. He sighed not looking pleased at all, eyes flashing with irritation and his smile gritty,  “You really like testing my patience, don’t you sweetheart?”
You couldn’t stop the scoff from escaping your lips, was he really going to act offended you were rejecting him? “No I’d like to remind you our parents are going to get married. That’s weird, I don’t know about you but that’s really weird for me.” You replied as you crossed your arms, leaning on your door frame.
Even if he was a good lay, and you’d imagine he definitely was- it didn’t matter. Sure your integrity wasn’t high but it was still there like damn, you weren’t just gonna let this happen. Not only was it weird but it wasn’t right either, you weren’t going to potentially compromise your mom’s happiness for an orgasm you could easily get else where.
Jimin exhaled sharply through his nose looking annoyed before regaining his cool demeanor though his stiff posture didn’t surpass you as he answered, “Yes but that doesn’t make us siblings. We’re adults Y/n. Legality doesn’t mean anything except in the states eyes.”
True as that was you still didn’t quite believe it, even if your mom never found out that didn’t change that fact that once wasn’t guaranteed. You weren’t an idiot, in situations like these it was a slippery slope, first it was just one time, then a second and third. Even if it wasn’t likely your mom would find out, if she did...You’d never be able to face her again, sighing you shook your head, “Well then if that’s the case you won’t have a problem waiting sense it doesn’t matter. Goodnight Jimin.” You shut the door promptly not wanting to carry on the weird feeling conversation any longer.
Laying back down in bed you rested with what time you could. Physically you could’ve kept going but while on vacation you had the luxury of being able to rest mentally. Something you just had to muddle your way through on a regular day at work. You were able to just rejuvenate after an hour before you heard a knock on the door.
Confused as to who it was you opened it unexpectedly. A maid was holding a large box, it was black and white with a long string of ribbon tied into a bow, “For you ma’am!” She said chipperly, handing the box over as you furrowed your brows. Watching her dash off to whatever duty she had next before shutting the door.
Setting the heavy box on the bed you untied the ribbon to open it. Gaping as you saw the wine red dress you had tried on earlier that day. Who could foot that kind of bill? Remembering the 4 million dollar mark flash in your eyes as you took it out of the box accompanied by a pair of matching heels. The bottom of the box though made you huff as you looked away. Picking up the small card message: Wear it for me babygirl - JJK
Except he wasn’t referring to the dress, no he was talking about the lingerie you’d imagine he must’ve picked out for you on his own time neatly folded at the bottom. He was thoughtful you’d give him that much.
It was nearing seven and you figured you’d might as well begin getting dressed. Peeling off your lounge wear before putting on the lingerie he had requested you wear first. The satin and lace was silky and just felt expensive, briefly you wondered how much it cost. It couldn’t be that expensive could it? Holding the lacy material in question you finally shook your head in disdain. It was just as soft as it felt in your hands. The fabric didn’t dig into your skin nor did it chafe. It was a bustier styled bra, cupping your breasts sitting them up high but it suited the cheeky panties well.
Considering Jungkook’s words from earlier he seemed to take on more classic designs. His taste in lingerie however was borderline raunchy, you supposed he had to make up for it somewhere along the line. Pulling the garner belt up before attaching your black sheer stockings to them. Resting for a minute before resuming your journey to finish getting dressed. Eventually you finished up your apparel, you had kept your makeup simple, knowing you’d most likely have a long night ahead if everything went well during your date.
No less then five minutes after 8 you heard a knock. Opening the door as you clipped on your left earring. Jungkook had a hand against the door frame, looking almost predatory before smirking down at you, “Glad to see you got my gift.”
You couldn’t stop the snort from escaping your lips as you curved an eyebrow before replying, “Mhm you didn’t miss a single detail in my outfit, huh?” Knowing exactly what you meant as he grabbed ahold of your waist. Gentle but firm enough to lead you as he let his lips brush against your ear, “And you were a good girl and wore everything, right?”
Finally smirking you looked up at him, two could play this game if he really wanted to be like that. Shrugging you put on a falsely innocent expression, “Well I’m dressed, aren’t I?”
Jungkook’s eyes darkened slightly at your bratty response as his grip on your waist tightly slightly, “You wanna force me to check?” His lips brushed against your ear as he whispered, you could feel heat dripping between your thighs as a couple walked past you both as he continued, “I won’t hesitate to put you against the wall baby, they can all stare if they want, I don’t care.”
His words made your face flush and your body warm as you glanced away, unable to trust your mouth to speak as he lifted his neck back up. Gauging your reaction before snickering, “Oh that turns you on doesn’t it? The idea of people watching huh?”
You had begun to squeeze your thighs together as you took a deep breath, he was right, you did like the idea of him forcing your legs open and letting your wet cunt be on display for anyone to see, clearing your throat you decided to keep your dirty thoughts in your head as you spoke up, “Not even gonna ask how my day was? Not very gentleman like.” Trying to deflect his dirty talk as a new crowd of people had gotten off the elevator headed your way.
Jungkook looked down at you curving an eyebrow before scoffing, leaning back down against your ear as he replied lowly, “Sorry baby, but you didn’t seem like you wanted a gentleman back in that dressing room. Did you?”
Crossing your arms you look up at him sharply, not realizing the glaring pout on your lips that made him chuckle. Making you all the more huffy as you looked away. He was right, of course he was. Jungkook seemed like someone who read body language well and you must have been an open book. Getting in the empty elevator as Jungkook hit the 13th floor button.
“Did you behave like I asked?” You honestly didn’t expect him to be so blunt. He wasn’t gonna talk like this the entire night was he? You weren’t sure you were gonna last long enough for it.
Swallowing thickly you nodded, the stickiness in your panties making you shift a tad uncomfortable as you forced an answer, “Almost killed me but yeah.”
Jungkook paused for a moment judging your body language for any lies, knowing you were telling the truth he let his lips tug into a loose smile, “Good, if it makes you feel any better I’ve been suffering too. I wanted to wait for you.” It was the odd intimacy in his words that made your cheeks flair again rather then the words themselves. He had really suffered the boner just out of anticipation for tonight? “Oh out of curiosity...” you glanced up at Jungkook, watching him lick his lips as he asked, “Have you told Jimin about tonight?”
“No...?” You extended the word as you curved an eyebrow, suddenly turning to face him as you crossed your arms. Why would he ask that? And furthermore why would you tell Jimin out of anyone any of your business that went on in your bed. Watching his expression become passively sheepish at your suddenly suspicion, “Why would I tell him?”
Jungkook glanced away from you, unsure of what to say for a moment as he gathered his thoughts. Finally looking at you carefully as he shrugged, attempting to portray a casual response, “No reason. Just...be careful with him.” His eyes had such clear warning it was your turn to blink as your mouth became dry, “Not everyone is as upfront with their intentions as I am.”
What was that suppose to mean? Why did everyone speak in so cryptically? Sighing you shook your head deciding to just be blunt about this situation, “Look I’m not gonna sleep with him. Our parents are together and it’s just weird. Really weird. He can try all he wants but he isn’t gonna get anywhere.”
Jungkook only store at you for a minute, his eyes clouded with a strange sense of pity, before looking away altogether, opening his mouth as if wanting to say something but quickly closing it. As if thinking it would be better to be quiet, clearing his throat he gave a dry chuckle, resuming his charming expression as he looked back towards you, “Sorry about that, Jimin’s not really a fun topic. In my opinion atleast.”
“Well it definitely wouldn’t kill him to not always be so honest that’s for sure,” You hadn’t originally meant to voice it out loud, but you got the vague sense Jungkook and him were close friends. Or atleast that’s what it seemed like. Maybe he could shed some light on why Jimin had such duality in personality.
Chuckling Jungkook lead you out of the elevator towards the ritzy floor that appeared to be entirely there just for fine dining, “Money makes people entitled. He’s not an exception.”
Curiously you glanced at him, the air about Jungkook was difficult to read. Something you weren’t use too, most people were like an open book involuntarily. The way they held themselves, what they wore, the brands they sported. It made it almost too easy to get an idea of people’s outlook on life. Like Jimin for instance, he was like a prowling linx. He paraded around like he genuinely cared and was concerned for whoever he talked too, but those half smirks and empty eyes never slipped past you even if they only showed for a split second. His intentions were just as pathetic as his attempt to pretend he really cared.
But Jungkook? Watching him smile coolly as he addressed the waiter who had nodded, weaving you towards your table in the lowlit dining area. Every expression on his face, every move he made, it was all intentional. He said he was just blunt, but was he really? Everyone in life had an ulterior motive, that’s just how it worked. Whatever his was, he had mastered never letting it seep through his intricately placed mask.
Jungkook pulled your chair out, gesturing you lightly to sit down. Often times you’d roll your eyes at any guy who’d attempt this. You lived such an informal life it hardly seemed fitting to be treated like this. But seeing this gesture on Jungkook, it fit almost alarmingly well. Like it had just come second nature to him, regardless of social class, this was just how women should be treated. It came off surprisingly natural compared to most guys who’d fumble as if forgetting until the last second about doing gentleman gestures which often came off more cringeworthy than chivalrous.
Sitting down as he seated you, before taking his own seat across from you as you tilted your chin, raising an eyebrow as you finally spoke up, “And what about you Jungkook? If money makes people entitled, what does that make you? You can have anything you want,” pressing your lips together you gave a hum in thought, “You can have any girl you want, why bother with someone like me?”
You’d be lying if the question hadn’t nagged at the back of your mind. Not out of some sort of desperation or need for reassurance. Pragmatically speaking, you had been genuinely curious. Someone like Jungkook, he shouldn’t even be in the same room as you. Suddenly realizing how blunt you were, you puckered your lips hoping it hadn’t come across offensive as you glanced at him.
Jungkook only laughed, soft and oddly sweet as he relaxed in his chair, glancing at you with soft eyes. Not necessarily affectionate, but an odd admiration as he shrugged, “It doesn’t make me anything. In my family money was never discussed while I was growing up,” he pressed his lips together, glancing away from you for a second as his gaze faltered, “Anything we bought, anywhere we went. That was just life for me. For a long time growing up I assumed everyone lived like I did.”
You found yourself curiously tilting your head. Having not expected at him giving such a detailed response. More so at the reality of his life, “Both of your questions lead to the same answer. My father...” his eyes suddenly filled with disdain, his nose wrinkling in irritation at just the thought before closing his eyes, sighing altogether, “He’s extremely controlling. He’s always been that way. Growing up he controlled every aspect of my life. Not in the way people would assume he would.”
Pausing for a second he seemed to be gathering his thoughts in figuring out how to properly explain as the waiter appeared. Two glasses of wine in tray as he handed them out. Explaining if you had another request for a different flavor he’d be happy to serve, handing out two menus as well he disappeared.
“I’m aware, socially speaking there’s a lot of differences between us,” Jungkook continued slowly as he delicately gripped the stem of his glass as if it was a rose, glancing at the dark inky liquid as he continued, “In your world, parents are usually more forceful yeah?”
Not expecting him to glance up to meet your eyes in hope for a response, a cloud of doubt in his gaze as if he didn’t want to wrongfully assume about you. You gave a dry laugh that came out more like a scoff, “Well there’s varying degrees...” You suddenly gripped the cup of your glass tightly, your expression darkening as memories of your childhood surfaced, forcing yourself to relax as you continued, “But aren’t most parents like that? How could that be different for you?”
“Well when you’re parents are as rich as mine they have different tactics in getting what they want,” Jungkook shrugged, glancing at you again as he rested his elbow against the armrest, twirling the stem in his hand as he continued, “They controlled me, just a lot more subtly. When you have money, you can choose what school your child goes too, which families they associate with, who they’re friends are. He molded my entire childhood to fit his ideal. I didn’t even realize it until my senior year when I had met a freshman who I really got along with. My dad about blew a fuse when he found out.”
His voice betrayed a bitter tone his expression had managed to steer clear of, “That was when I realized it wasn’t about who I was talking too, it was about it being someone who was in a lower class then us. Someone who my dad looked at as just a worker bee, someone who didn’t matter. He’s a very big elitist, people who don’t level our wealth aren’t worth our time in his opinion.”
Finally managing a drink from your glass as you set it down, letting his words soak in as you finally rose your eyebrows, “And you don’t agree with that?”
Jungkook licked his lips, running a hand through his dark silk like locks as he thought for a minute, “Well I was conflicted at first. Because I didn’t understand, I grew up my entire life just assuming I was normal, sure I had noticed subtle differences with my friends. But with my dad puppeteering my entire life it was never enough for me to question it until my senior year. I disregarded his word and hung out with who I wanted too. I branched out and found people I actually got along with. That’s when I began to realize I wasn’t so normal. I’m not even close to normal. The more I hung out with my friends, let them take me to public standardized areas, their homes, everywhere the more I understood that money? Material goods, financial security, that meant a lot more to people then I ever thought it did. Some people are just greedy for it, some people genuinely struggle with it...” he licked his lips as he rambled away, his eyes in a far away place, “It was weird seeing that, it still is weird. It feels like a foreign concept to me. Maybe that does make me entitled inherently. I’ve never known a day in my life where I’ve had to struggle with security in that sense.”
Straightening his posturing he cleared his throat, as if realizing how much he rambled as he finally glanced at you, “You’re right, I can have anything I want, and any girl I want. But I want you because I’m curious,” Jungkook finally set his wine glass down as he shifted in his seat, leaning forward slightly, “You’re forbidden, something I’ve never been allowed to indulge in. When you have parents like mine I was only allowed to associate with my friends in highschool for so long before they cut it off. You’re everything I’m curious about, your way of life, your mentality, your culture. I’m curious, I’ve always been. And there’s so much of your world to experience it honestly overwhelms me at times. I don’t really know where to begin on my own.” He ended his sentence somewhat sheepishly, which let you know he was being honest.
Jungkook’s eyes looked boyish in that moment and you could tell every word he spoke he meant. You looked thoughtful as you tilted your head. You could never imagine being as sheltered as he was, but it made you wonder. What was classified as ‘your’ world? On any other occasion you would’ve scoffed, the idea it’s self almost made you feel like a science project for him to tinker with and study for the sake of his own weird sense of curiosity about the average mass of commonwealth.
But his overwhelming amount of genuineness put in his words made it difficult to feel indignant. Because his eyes, his whole demeanor while explaining was just so innocent. It was an endearing, genuine curiosity that made it so difficult to scoff at him. He really genuinely wanted to understand your way of life, it was such a foreign concept to you though. Could you even help him? How could anyone not experience life the way you had?
Well technically lots of people hadn’t, most people didn’t live the way you did, or suffer the background you had. But still your way of life, surely it couldn’t have been all that different, right? Jungkook left you alone for minute as if knowing you’d need a moment to muse his words. The silence was comforting and filled with the soft jazz that had been playing live towards the front of the room.
The waiter had come by after another few passing seconds to take your order, it wasn’t until after he left that Jungkook spoke up, “What about you though? I didn’t ask you out just to talk about myself the entire time.” He laughed causally though you could detect he seemed a bit worried he had rambled too much.
Shaking your head you grabbed the stem of your glass, twirling it as you hummed, “I don’t mind. It’s actually pretty fascinating to hear...” hearing your words you watched his eyes light up in relief, “It’s interesting to know that people can be raised so different...I guess I’m still trying to wrap my head around it...” licking your lips you glanced at him briefly before looking away hesitantly, “My life feels pretty boring compared to yours...if not rather disheartening.”
It was true, you didn’t have a manipulated and repressed childhood, nor were you drown in riches and ignorance until you one day grew up and had an epiphany there was more to life than your parents had lead on. Jungkook frowned as he spoke up, “You should never compare, just because your life wasn’t as eventful as mine doesn’t make it any lesser in value.”
Your heart for a moment felt touched by his words. But it made you curious, how could he be so open minded and soft if he had been conditioned by his father his entire life? “W-well...” you fumbled slightly as you set your wine glass down, fumbling with your fingers as you awkwardly continued, “My life isn’t glamorous and honestly, if you’re looking for a more accurate depiction of working class I’m not a very good example...”
But your words only made Jungkook look more curious as he patiently waited for you to continue. Sighing you looked around from him as you crossed your legs, resting your chin against your hand as you glanced into the crowd of people, all wearing finewear with elegant soft spoken voices. Leaving an echo of a soft murmur to fill the air that mingled with music, “Growing up was...not fun.”
You frowned prominently as you furrowed your brows, digging into your memories as you continued, “I’ve never lived a fancy or...” you frowned as if looking for the right word, “Stable life...My parents worked very hard to ensure we had a place to live even if it wasn’t much. When I was a kid I could’ve cared less. But I hadn’t realized how much of strain it had put on their relationship. Eventually my dad would get so mad he’d run off to one of the local bars and wouldn’t come back until late in the morning.”
Sighing you didn’t have the nerve to look at him as you expression finally softened, “Of course that made the strain even worse. Looking back it was pretty counter productive, they’d argue, he’d drink, they’d argue about his drinking, making him go drink more. Eventually he became unemployed and it was just my mom barely scrapping us by while he drowned his at the bottom of a bottle.” Glancing down at your lap your softened expression still glowered slightly, a bitter note in your eyes that Jungkook took attentive care to notice though you had refused to look at him, “I was forced to grown up fast, so I didn’t have much of a childhood, by the time I was fifteen I ended up dropping out of highschool to work as many hours as my job would let me to help pay for rent while saving up to move out with my mom. By the time I was nineteen one of my friends had been looking for hospital work to get experience in the field. Sense they had two openings and he wanted the company I didn’t see the harm. Working two jobs, one during the day and one at night...”
Your eyes seemed distance as you mused, looking a bit lighter then before as you glanced up at Jungkook while shrugging, “Well it’s taxing, I’m not gonna sit and lie to you about it. I rarely have time to do anything besides sleep the few hours I can manage. But I was also able to get us moved out that same year. And after years like this I’ve gotten use to it, the lack of sleep, the minimal way of life...Jimin constantly says it doesn’t take a lot to make me impressed but...”
Sighing through your nose your expression hardened, curling an eyebrow looking vaguely annoyed, “No one here seems to get it y’know? I come from nothing, I am nothing, compared to anyone in this place. I’ve work my ass off my entire life just to survive. I don’t know what the word luxury even means, and don’t get the wrong impression,” Your voice suddenly fumbled, faltering in your ranting, looking at Jungkook for a second before looking away almost worried, “I don’t want you to think I’m bitter, or jealous of anyone here. It’s just, everyone takes what they have for granted because they think it isn’t enough. It’s hard to swallow that when you live the life I do, when I know at the end of the week, I’ll just go back to my life, back to work and I’ll never see any of this again. But everyone here? They act like this is some sort of average business week. And I guess, it is for them.”
Licking your lips you sighed, closing your eyes briefly for a moment as you shifted in your seat, “Being here, feels weird. Everyone looks at me like circus show. Like it’s cute how I get so flustered by how much luxury there is here. But in reality, you’re right. The majority of the world will and never will be use to this.”
Jungkook had stayed relatively quiet as you found yourself unable to speak anymore. Suddenly feeling rather self conscious, this must’ve been how he felt after exposing so much of the personal turmoil he had suffered through with you. But in another way, it felt rather liberating, just simply telling someone about your hardship, it was easier confiding in a stranger than a friend.
Because a stranger won’t be disappointed in you, or tell you what you should have done. They will earnestly listen to your story without judgement that your friends and family would carry. Maybe that’s why he had told you so much as well.
“But it isn’t really temporary, you do know that, right Y/n?” Your head shot up at Jungkook’s soft voice, an odd amount of empathy on his face for someone so different than you. A delicious fragrance filled the air as the waiter had finally stopped by your table, setting your food out for you.
“I don’t know how you feel about it,” Jungkook looked as though he was treading on sensitive ground as he continued, “But Park is going to marry your mom. Even if you don’t actively see them it’s still going to impact your life, a lot of the strain you feel right now won’t be so heavy.”
Sighing you looked away from him, “I’m a grown women...I don’t need help. Or want it...okay maybe I do but I’m also not a slacker. Of course I’d appreciate their help but they don’t need to worry about me,” you shrugged loosely, beginning your meal as you continued, “Maybe I’m just being stubborn, my mom always said I take on too much. But I’ve lived like this my entire life, how can I just drop the only way I know how to live? I know I’ve complained a lot about my life but, I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.”
Your words were earnest as you glanced up at Jungkook, your eyes and expression both had softened significantly as you finally let out a small laugh, a genuine smile on your lips, “Sure my life sucks and I have a dysfunctional family, but isn’t that what life’s about? No matter who you are, or where you come from, we all seem to have those problems. I might not be drowning in gucci. But I do have an apartment. And I have a bomb ass cat...” Y
our nose wrinkled as you smiled, remembering the little shit stain that curled against your neck anytime you were home to sleep, “And I have two friends who are just as dysfunctional as me. Sometimes, it’s not all about the big things in life. Sometimes,” you glanced down at the extravagant meal in front of you, smelling worthy enough to make your mouth water as you mused, “It’s the little things in life, that make life worth living, y’know?”
You had been initially a little on edge for the first date you’d be attempting in months, especially when it was with someone so different from you by nature. But you had found yourself, for the first time, in a long time, genuinely relaxed and enjoying yourself. The pitfall most guys fell into with you, was in search for a romantic partner. It wasn’t their fault, there was nothing wrong for wanting that. You just weren’t the right person they needed, you didn’t want to be settled down with commitment and shifted priority that came with a relationship. Or maybe you just hadn’t met someone you liked enough to change your mind.
Regardless more times than less they’d want to take it slow, get to know you, your life, your story and family. And finally after so much pining and unnecessary waiting they’d sleep with you. They actually didn’t, because you’d never make it past the third date before inevitably getting impatient and leaving. You liked it fast, without reason or questions. It just made life easier. And if it worked out, great and if it didn’t? No harm done.
Most guys you attracted never seemed to share the same mindset. Even going as far as horrified at the prospect of going home together on the first date. But one of your biggest ideals in a relationship was simple, he had to be good in bed. You weren’t opposed to teaching someone, but often times men had a very large and a very sensitive ego. Again you had never gotten that far to begin with. Which was why you had never had any luck from a relationship. If he was bad in bed and too prideful to learn then there was zero point in wasting your time with someone, but since most of the guys you had went out with refused to sleep with you...well you can see the problem, right?
There was something about Jungkook though, you rather liked. He was easy going but eager, just like yourself in that aspect. As if ready to jump you at any moment if you gave the word. He didn’t want to wait around and ‘get’ to know you. He was blunt in his intentions of wanting to sleep with you, admitting later to simply wanting to get to know you’re side of the coin in life. And you had no problems with that, because inherently it was all just fun and games.
An easy win win, you’d finally break your dry spell with someone you got along with, he’d be able to sate some of his curiosity about the outside world.
You could respect that. You and Jungkook had been closing that evening, laughing together at one of the stories you had been enthralled at telling, having so few friends you often only experienced anything thrilling with them, leaving you with little to no audience to ever tell it to outside your mom. And that was when it was legal atleast. Jungkook seemed rather shocked and oddly absorbed in your rather crazy stories, obviously enjoying them as he had never experienced anything close to the oddities you and you had friends had experienced.
Getting out of your seats you both had smiled with a lingering silence but he spoke up, “So about making it up to you after this morning....”
“Gonna bail on me again?” You rose your eyebrows with a teasing smile, half expecting him too. It was almost eleven and you’d imagine he was going to have a busy day tomorrow, wouldn’t anyone who lived a life like this? Something you weren’t jealous of, you were busy yes, but nowhere near on the extravaganza that was the Fifteenth Dark Ace hotel. And for that, you wouldn’t blame him, if you were that busy you’d probably bail on a date too.
“After how much of a good girl you’ve been?” Jungkook let that infamous smirk pull on his lips as he stepped closer to you closing the gap of space, forcing you to crane your neck to glanced up at him, “I’m not that mean babygirl. Wanna head up to my room?”
You licked your lips, knowing his tone of voice had come off in a way not to pressure you. After all you could have changed your mind in the few hours you had spent together, but it hadn’t. In fact it only reinforced how much you wanted this guy to pound into you, “Lead the way.” You gestured, curving an eyebrow with one of the worlds most cutest smile, not at all fitting given the scenario you were headed into.
Obviously glad to hear you wanted this just as much as him, he wasted no time to wrap an arm around your waist, leading you down the lowlit path as you glanced one last time at the stunning dining area. The crystal chandeliers that held thousands of candles in them creating such a glowing ambiance. The skilled saxophonist who played softly intertwined with the piano, and the utter divine smell of fresh baked bread that had passed by from a waiter. And- Wait was that who you thought it was? Blinking you had to do a double take back at the sea of people before your gaze had landed on a black head of hair, Jimin?
Jungkook seemed to notice your surprise as he raised a brow, looking out to where your gaze had landed before spotting Jimin as well, letting out a tiny amused chuckle before speaking, “Oh he never sleeps alone at night, don’t look so surprised Y/n. It’s just how he is.”
Watching Jimin as he smirk deviously as he gripped the girls chin, her bare back facing you with the revealing gown on but you could tell by her body language she was flustered. Still though a small indignant pang sent through your stomach, of course he only wanted to sleep with you.
Sighing you rolled your eyes as you shrugged, deciding not to care further, you weren’t that interested anyways and it’s clear Jimin was only interested in your body. Why focus on that though when someone like Jungkook was leading you to his room, “Why is he like that anyways? I mean he’s just so…”
“Dualistic? Dunno to be honest,” Jungkook shrugged, thinking for a moment before shrugging again, “I have a few theories but none seem to really peg his problem whatever it is. Money makes up his ego sure but he just has a mentality that whatever he wants he gets. Unlike me his family is considerably lower class then us. The only reason we’re childhood friends is because our dads were as well.” Jungkook rambled on as you curiously glanced at him, so the Parks really weren’t that loaded? A flash of the private jet you had not been in two days ago flashed in your mind as you felt like you had been sucker punched. If that wasn’t fucking loaded then what did that make Jungkook!?
Getting in the elevator he finally concluded as he shrugged, “Honestly, I know you said you weren’t interested in him but I’m being serious Y/n. He’s like a predator, when he wants someone, he won’t give up. Be careful.” And there it was again, that crypticness from earlier.
Confused you tilted your head before shaking it. He kept warning you but nothing had really warranted anything for it, sure Jimin was an attractive man but that’s all he really had going for him in your opinion, it wasn’t like you naturally got along with him, “Okay, if he really is into me as much as you say…Why are you doing this?” You gestured your hand between you both, “With me?”
Jungkook took a moment to contemplate your words looking rather sheepish, as if being caught in the act before his brows furrowed in thought. Finally he shrugged loosely, that smirk curling back on his lips as he replied, “Because I think it’s fun taking what Jimin can’t get. He’s such a sore loser it’s honestly hilarious…which is why you should probably keep this between us.” He pressed his lips together, whatever pride he had on his face loosened as he glanced at you almost worried briefly.
“Well the good news is I wasn’t intending on telling him about who I’ve slept with,” You laughed lightly, not wanting whatever seemed to be disturbing Jungkook to get him too worried, “Besides you have nothing to worry about, I’ve survived campus fuckboys of all different sorts. This isn’t any different I can promise you.”
“What about me?” Your mouth gaped at the unexpected coil of smug in his tone as he pulled you closer to him, dragging his lips against the shell of your ear as he murmured, “I’m not a fuckboy to you, am I?”
Your breath had hitched slightly at the warmth of his lips and the grip of his hands against your waist, you could’ve sworn you had heard his heartbeat with his hot breath so close to you, “No,” Suddenly feeling the overwhelming desire to be a brat even though you knew the consequences, “I couldn’t even think you’re a fuckboy. You’re like a cute little bunny!” You suddenly spun around, booping that cute little curved tip of his nose as you grinned playfully.
Suddenly giggling loudly at his drop in expression looking dumbfounded at what you had just done, “See! Maximum cuteness! You’re too adorable to be a fuckboy I don’t make the rules Kooky.” You pinched his cheeks as your grin widened, finally provoking him to grab your wrists as his brows furrowed.
Licking his lips and despite trying to look sexy it had the opposite effect, maybe it was the wine but he just looked so damn adorable trying to be alpha like, “You must really liked that punishment huh?” He curved an eyebrow, his eyes had darkened considerably and his tone of voice had deepened, finally achieving the aura he had been looking for, “We haven’t even got to my room yet and you already wanna test me baby?”
Pressing your tongue against your cheek you backed off slightly, while punishment was enjoyable you had been promised reward tonight and you weren’t gonna throw that away, “No,” you shook your head with false innocence as you contained yourself, “I’m daddy’s good girl- No I’m daddy’s best girl.” You corrected yourself patronizingly and you were surprised he hadn’t pushed you against the wall to spank you in that moment as he crossed his arms looking less than impressed, making you snicker nervously. Fumbling with your fingers as you cleared your throat, “I’ll behave.”
Sighing Jungkook shook his head, letting his disapproving gaze softened slightly, “You’re lucky I’m in a forgiving mood tonight, you really enjoy teasing me don’t you?”
He stepped closer again, as if daring you to continue as you impishly smiled, glancing away as you fiddled with your hair, knowing if you ignored the question you’d be punished, and if you answered the wrong way you’d still be punished, “Is it really a good time in bed if there isn’t a little bit of banter? There’s nothing more fun than making a dom feel the need to prove himself even when he knows he doesn’t have too.”
“Is that what this is about?” Jungkook almost looked amused as he grabbed your chin delicately, making you look at him as he leaned down wolfishly, “You want me to prove my dominance babygirl? Careful what you wish for.”
The door had dinged open, having finished its journey as Jungkook turned to face the entrance, briefly smirking while he wasn’t looking, gotcha. No punishment tonight, you were what the kids called a crafty sub, you knew just the right thing to say to get what you wanted. On the rare occasion you could watch your mouth.
Leading you back to his room the door clicked shut with a finality, knowing you could go back on this at anytime but seeing the city lights reflect off his body outlining made you swallow. Your mind flickered to his bare torso when you had first met as he took off his jacket. Turning around as he raised his eyebrows, “You just gonna stand there?”
“Shouldn’t you be telling me to strip?” You took a slow step further into the room, your eyes adjusting to the dark room as you questioned his motives. Unsure if he had this whole night planned out the moment he saw you or was simply going off of instinct.
Chuckling Jungkook sat on the edge of his bed kicking off his shoes while giving them a small kick to the side, shrugging as he relaxed back against his hand, “You dictate the night sweetheart, not me. You want to be a brat and get under my skin right? Make me feel the need to prove myself? Sad to say but I’m a patient man baby, it’s gonna take more then teasing to get me to do that.”
“So let me get this straight,” You had stepped out of your heels, glad to have them off as your feet thanked you, turning to face him as if this was a salesman gimmick that you were positive seemed too good to be true, “You’re gonna let me boss you around?”
“Mhm.” He nodded looking genuine but you were suspect as you squinted your eyes making him laugh, was this some trap? “I’m not gonna bite- too hard, do we need protection?” He licked his lips feverishly as he waited for your next move, relaxed and clearly not looking the least intimidated as he casually asked the question, you wouldn’t have been surprised if he had kept condoms on him twenty four seven.
Pressing your lips together as the pout began to quiver on your lips, “No I’m on pill…” you lingered warily in your spot, looking as if you were in the room with a rabid animal, cautious of his every flickered gaze. He was relaxed, not looking the least concerned about anything, of course he wasn’t, not when he was the one who could unfairly flip the roles here, “Boss me around sweetheart, that’s what you wanna do right?” The wicked smirk curled on his lips as he raised his brows expectantly
“Well-“ You fumbled tugging your hair as you cautiously padded closer to him, still unsure if this was a trick or not, “Yes…but I don’t wanna get punished…” you finally admitted your reason of reluctance as you trudged towards him, lips still pouting with a quiver as you glanced away from him.
Jungkook nodded exasperatedly with a patronizing tone, “Mhm and I promise you won’t, as long as you behave when I tell you too. And right now I’m giving you permission to boss me around. Make me do what you want baby, anything’s for grabs.” he leaned back against his hands as he encouraged you to come closer.
“Anything?” You tilted your head, quirking a brow in disbelief as you finally took the final step towards him, looking down at him, he looked so smug in that moment as he nodded again, “Anything.”
Licking your lips it was your turn to cheekily grin as you raised your eyebrows, having his permission before pressing your mouth closed, unable to keep that adorable little smirk off your lips as you lifted your leg up, placing your foot beside his seated position. The high slit of your dress parting all the way up to the height of your thigh, “Kiss.”
It was a one worded command but he had got the message. Not breaking eye contact with you as if to remind you he was ultimately in charge as he gripped the soft skin against the sheer black material of your stocking, kissing your inner thigh as his eyes lidded slightly but refused to break from your contact.
Letting his lips part as he dragged his tongue against the soft surface, humming approvingly as you let your hand find his hair. Having been curious since you met him to touch it, his hair looked so silky and soft and your assumption was right as you massaged your fingers against his scalp making him shift positions of your thigh as he let his lips press up further while his tongue dragged in its path.
Finally allowing your eyes to close in contentment as his soft lips began to pepper your thigh in kisses, “Feel good baby?” His hand ran across your thigh gently squeezing as you nodded with a hum. Letting him open your leg more to get a better angle on your thigh as you felt the tulle part further. His lips pressed deeper against your skin before opening again, biting down with a nip, taking the skin in his mouth sucking delicately. Undoubtedly marking you as you continued to enjoy the pampering before pausing for a moment, pulling away slightly making him come up for air on his handy work.
Two hickies had already started to form in a shade of purple that was difficult to see in the low lights. Jungkook said nothing as he watching you place your foot back on the ground, almost anticipating your every move as you reached for the zipper of your dress. Unzipping it all the way down before letting the material drop from your body, grabbing the pin in your hair as you pulled it out, feeling your hair stumble down as you smirked again.
Watching his eyes light up in amusement, almost like a kid unwrapping a present as he licked his lips humming out, “You look even better then I had hoped.”
Stepping between his parted legs you snorted definitely an unattractive laugh as you curved an eyebrow, “How come I didn’t get that reaction when you came to pick me up?” It was a playful question as you tsked, “Come on keep kissing gentleman, I love to be bathed in worship.”
Wrapping his arms around your waist he pulled you to him as he pressed his lips against your stomach, glancing up at you wolfishly as Jungkook rose a brow, “Do you really want a gentleman?”
“Not when you look at me like that.” You replied amused though answering honestly as he continued to pepper your body in kisses, focusing more on your lower body within his reach as he began to nip at your hips. Between your lacy black cheeky panties and the garter belt it had left a snippet of your skin for the taking as he continued to nip his way to the other side.
Letting his hands squeeze against the sides as he made his way back up to your pelvis where the belt sat, kissing over the material as he tugged you to straddle him.
Inherently wanting to be obedient you did as asked making yourself comfortable on his lap as his hands ran down to your ass, holding you firmly as he dipped down into your neck continuing his trail of kisses, parting his lips to mark again as he began to suck against the skin. His hands began to delicately trace back up your sides almost making you wiggle at how feathery his touch was.
A quick nip against the spot he had been working on emitted a breathy little gasp from you that unfortunately didn’t escape his auditory, “Keep making those sounds babygirl.” He practically petted you as he stroked his hands down your back, showering you with affection and his undivided attention as he began to work his way down to your breasts that sat prominently up in the matching lacy black bustier bra.
Jungkook pressed kisses on top of them before biting down against the soft tissue, obviously finding the next spot he wanted to mark as his mouth continued to work. His hands continually stroking against your sides as he let his tongue press and prod against the spot as he finally glanced up at you, “Feeling pampered enough to help me out sweetheart?”
Eyes still closed you nodded as you heard him quietly laugh before pausing and continuing, “Lap dance me in that pretty lingerie baby, give me a good show.”
Your forearms had found there way against his broad shoulders as he finished up marking his spot against your breast as you began to press down against him. Letting your hips drag and wiggle in search for his length that you had found quickly hardening.
Your arousal began to spike between your legs as you pressed your cunt back against him almost too eager as you began to rub and drag down against his lap, feeling his grip on your hips tighten slightly, letting you know you were doing a good job as he finished his last mark, a whine escaping your lips as you felt your clit catch against the material of his slacks.
Smirking he leaned back against his hands as he let you get to work, pressing down on him from different angles, your panties were completely soaked and the embarrassing wet patch was prominent as you eagerly worked his clothed bulge as he spoke up, “Careful babygirl, you’ll get my slacks wet at the rate you’re going.”
Your cheeks began to flare because he was right. Your panties were beyond ruined by your own wetness from how turned on you had become in such a short amount of time, “Never said that was a bad thing,” Jungkook snickered at your reaction, grabbing your chin to make you look at him, “Look at you, all red faced while bouncing on my lap. What do you want baby? Wanna be my princess right? Tell me what you want.”
Your face was getting redder as you attempted to look down towards his lap, feeling his finger keep you in place as you murmured shyly, “I want to ride your thigh daddy.”
Jungkook raised his eyebrows in surprise, as if expecting a more common request before suddenly looking smug while squeezing your sides as he nodded, “Of course you would, go on, ride daddy’s thighs princess.”
Eagerly you slipped from his lap and over to his left thigh sitting with legs on either side as you began to press down against the cotton material before eagerly rubbing yourself against him, feeling your clit flatten enough to send a jolt into your stomach as you suddenly whimpered. Holding onto his thigh as you continued to ride it, letting your clit catch against the material of your panties as you continued to drag your hips against his thigh pleasuring yourself as you whimpered again, feeling the pressure slowly building in your core.
Jungkook observed cockily, admittedly not once in his life had a girl wanted to thigh ride him until now but he was more than happy to experience. Feeling your arousal messily slip through your panties and soak through his pants, it was an oddly satisfying feeling as you pressed against him harshly, feeling your pussy part and wet further as you continued to ride him quicker, “Look at you princess, you’re making such a big mess on daddy’s thigh, come on baby keep riding.” Whimpering at his words you continued to use his thigh in desperation, “You look good desperate, it’s almost pathetic how much you want your little clit rubbed, do you need help?” Whining you nodded defeatedly as he chuckled. Bouncing his thigh in compliance as you suddenly bucked your hips your clit flattening continually at the movement stimulating as you let out little gasps, “Come on princess cum on daddy’s thigh like a good girl.”
Feeling the pressure build in your core you continually whimpered as you rubbed yourself against his bouncing thigh, feeling your legs begin to shake as he almost demanded, “Cum for daddy babygirl.”
Moaning loudly you felt the pressure snap as you obediently let the orgasm wash over you, moans almost embarrassingly slipping out from your lips as you continued to whimper and whine while wrapping your arms around his neck, burying your face in the crook as he stroked you praisingly, “Mmm that’s a good girl, good girl baby.”
Your legs were shaky and you weren’t sure if you could stand as he grabbed you by the ass, picking you up so he could properly set you down on the bed, unbuttoning his shirt as he tsked, “Such a messy baby, you couldn’t help yourself could you? Do my thighs feel that good?”
Blushing you looked away red cheeked and pouting but nodding regardless. Letting his shirt fall off his well chiseled arms as you felt your face grow hotter at his well built body display, suddenly feeling self conscious as you looked away, did you even deserve to sleep with someone as good looking as Jungkook?
By the time he had let his slacks hit the floor he tsked again, kneeling down as he grabbed your wrists, “Don’t cover yourself, I want to see you in your pretty lingerie princess. Unless you want me to take it off for you…” he licked his lips, his fingers already finding their way to the back of your bra as you said nothing in return, feeling your face hot red as he unhooked it.
Taking it off you had instantly went to cover yourself once more, Jungkook’s hands caught your wrists in time as he huffed, “I said don’t cover yourself baby, look at how pretty you are.” He could barely murmur the words out as he let his mouth suck against your nipple, making you whimper at the suddenly sensation as his hand went to the other.
Massaging nice and slowly while giving gentle pinches to it, sighing through his nose as he paused for a moment before sitting up to take you in, running a hand through his hair as he sighed again, “Fuck you look hot. Want me to eat that pretty pussy baby? I’m hungry again but for a whole new meal.” He hadn’t even left you an option as if he had decided on his own. Feeling his fingers pull against the garter belt first pulling it down with your stockings as he pressed kisses against your leg all the way back up to your thigh.
You jolted at the feeling of his lips kissing your well soaked panties as he hummed, “We should get rid of these hm? You did a good job of ruining them baby.” He coyly smirked from between your thighs as his fingers curled around the band of your panties, pulling them down in one fluid motion before diving in between your legs.
Wasting no time as he let his tongue lick up from your slit making you gasp at the unexpected sensation. When was the last time you had even been ate out? Most guys found it too gross to wanna try it or simply didn’t like doing it. It was a foreign feeling having Jungkook jump between your legs on his own accord as he devoured you, sucking your clit like a tasty treat as you wiggled and whimpered beneath him, letting his tongue continuously drag against your clit until he found its sweet spot.
Your voice was already becoming ragged and your already over sensitive body was reacting sharply at the harsh sensation as you whined, collapsing back against the soft surface. Jungkook pulled your legs over his shoulders as he straightened up, hiking your lower body up with him as he glanced down at you like a predator while eating you alive.
Feeling his tongue prick and prod at the oversensitive bundle of nerves making the orgasm build faster and faster as you squeezed your thighs against him moaning, “Daddy please! I’m so close!” You finally strangled out.
His grip on you tightened at your whimpered words while feeling a long slim finger slip inside you as you attempted to twist and turn while he kept you in place. Pumping a second finger inside you as he quickened his pace, not letting his tongue stop for a second as he took your clit in his mouth sucking against it as he let it swirl in his mouth, using his tongue to stroke it.
Clenching around his fingers that roughly pumped in and out of you when he found your g-spot you had snapped, almost screaming at the pain of your orgasm but it obviously wasn’t enough for him, “Keep going baby.” He suddenly added a third finger pumping you roughly as he vigorously hit your g-spot each time, sending you into orbit as you continuously bucked in his hand whimpering not evening finishing your second orgasm before he sent you into your third while attaching his tongue back to your clit humming.
Tears had begun to slip from your eyes at so much overstimulation but he refused to stop continuing as he ruthlessly hit your g spot, letting you practically ride his face as he nipped your clit. Still riding your third orgasm as he finally achieved what he was looking for. Forcing your fourth one as you roughly clenched around his fingers, body shaking and crying with whimpers as the liquid squirted out, coating his fingers as he slipped out of you, setting you back down on the bed as you continued sobbing from so much overstimulation, fuck had you ever even squirted before? You didn’t even think you could.
Jungkook began to wash your thighs in kisses as he softly praised you, “Such a good girl, my best babygirl. Can you still take daddy’s cock? You don’t have to say yes baby.” He murmured against your thighs as he gently massaged them, practically bathing you in affection as you swallowed back those big crocodile tears, your eyes were mascara stained and red cheeked looking incredibly tired but you were a trooper as you struggled to sit up, “I-I can do it, I want you balls deep inside me daddy.” Your needy eyes looking directly at him as you murmured, not shy but horse from so much whining.
“Mmm you sound so cute when you talk filthy princess, keep going for daddy.” Jungkook asked as he let his cock spring free from his boxers. It looked incredibly irritated and red tipped, precum covering it as you licked your lips nervously, “…I-I don’t know…you’re really big daddy.” Glancing away as he gently pushed you back down against the bed.
Smirking though he pressed his lips against you forehead, “You let daddy worry about that, you just relax baby, okay?”
Biting your lip you obediently nodded, “Okay.”
You certainly weren’t lying, he was huge, in both length and girth, it didn’t help that you hadn’t been laid in forever and it’s not like you had gotten a lot of action before that. Feeling spoiled at all of this as you felt him open your thighs again, sore from already being opened so much they sent a dull ache to your hips.
You suddenly moaned as you whined feeling his massive length slip against your pussy, coating in your arousal as it brushed over your hypersensitive clit.
Stroking your pussy with his cock before grabbing the tip he began to press it in, making you grit your teeth as you hissed sucking a breath of air in.
“Mmm fuck baby you’re tight, you weren’t joking about not getting a lot before huh?” He chuckled though it sounded strain as he pushed himself further in, “Good, because this is my pretty little pussy to fuck isn’t it? You want me to prove my dominance right? Well guess what baby? I’d fucking demolish anyone who even tries getting close to this.”
You whimpered as he suddenly began thrusting. His length throbbing painfully inside you at such a small space, his hand slapped your thigh making you whimper out as he continued, “This is mine, all mine babygirl.” His hips continued to rock faster against you as you wrapped your legs around him letting him pound ruthlessly inside you as he let out a gravelly moan. His voice deep and almost guttural before quickly letting his hips begin to slam into you making you moan loudly as you began to wiggle and try to buck in sync with his hips. Being too fast though Jungkook laughed, “Look at you baby, even when you’re all fucked out you’re still greedy for another orgasm aren’t you?” He opened one of your legs up further to penetrate you deeper but you could already feel him hitting your cervix, fuck! He was so big, “Go on baby cum all over my cock, be a greedy little girl.”
Whimpering as he continually filled you, roughly hammering into you making the bed begin to knock against the wall as his fingers found their way against your sensitive clit almost making you scream as your voice whined out loudly, “D-daddy please- it hurts!”
Hearing your whimpering only made his cock twitch and pulse as he picked up his pace, thrusting rougher as he continued to rub your clit harshly, “Be a good girl and orgasm for me baby, do I need to repeat myself? I want your cum all over my cock baby come on start riding.” He suddenly picked you up sitting down while setting you on top of him, your orgasm already building enough to make you eagerly bounce his cock as he grabbed your ass.
Quickly helping you as you felt it eagerly twitch inside you again, “Come on baby come for me.” His hand smacked against your ass echoing against the room as you whimpered, burying your face in his neck only for him to grabbing a fistful of hair, yanking you to look back at him, “No baby you’re gonna cum all of this cock while looking right at me.”
Feeling his fingers roughly pressing against your clit against as he let go of your hair in trade to spank you harsher,  your walls clenching harshly around his cock that was painfully throbbing and rubbing against your g-spot as he growled, “Cum baby.”
Whimpering you bounced him as fast your hips would let you taking down his full length despite it painfully throbbing inside you, quickly riding his thick base as you whimpered continually, feeling yourself clench against him as your orgasm arrived quickly.
Roughly rubbing your sweet spot as you cried out, tears close to falling down your face as he spanked you again, “Go on, cum you slut, don’t make me repeat myself.” His hand slapped your bare red ass one last time before the overstimulation overwhelmed you, crying as it washed over you, sending you to cloud nine as he suddenly flipped you both other. Now on top of you as he ruthlessly thrusted into you, slamming his cock into you as he continually moaned though it barely reached your ear.
Pushing himself until the base of his cock was all the way inside you before he released, feeling the hot ropes of his cum fill you until you dripped his seed, his hips didn’t stop though as he drilled into you, obviously forcing himself into overstimulation as he moaned loudly cumming again from the overstimulation, his seed spilling from you even further as he filled you a second time.
Finally relaxing as he let himself slip out from you. Sweat beading down his neck as he gasped for air, obviously out of breath as he rested his forearms on either side of you, kissing your neck as he murmured, “What a good girl, you did so well baby.”
Originally you had intended on making your way back to your own room once this was finished, but there was not a single bone left in you body that could properly function as exhaustion began to set in. Picking you up to properly set you in bed, pulling the nice fluffy blankets over you both as he got back on top of you, showering you in kisses and soft praise again, “Go on babygirl, sleep you earned it.” He urged you as he continued to smother your stomach in kisses while gently stroking your waist.
Just as you had done everything else this night, you listened without being told twice. Letting your eyes fall shut as sleep gladly took you.

He Served
By Paul Teodo and Tom Myers
“YOU’RE PISSED.” Rosco fidgeted in his seat, eyeing The Buff, who pouted like a child when he heard anything he didn’t like. Rosco added, “Nothing wrong with upper deck.”
“Can’t see shit from here.” Buff crammed half a dog into his mouth, a chunk of grilled onions sticking to his bushy black beard. He licked mustard off his cigarette-stained fingers. “Nose bleeds. A buck a seat. Cheap ass.”
“Beggars can’t be choosers.” Rosco wanted to yank the words back. He knew better. He knew what was coming.
“Fuck you. I served.” Buff glared at his friend. “I ain’t no beggar.”
He did serve. Four years, in country. ‘Nam. Went in at one-eighty pounds. Got back, two years later he weighed three-seventy-four .The name fit.
“Bad shit, leave me alone,” he’d say when Rosco tried to talk to him about it. “And Jenna. How could she?”
Jenna hooked up with a swimmer behind Buff’s back before he enlisted. Buff nearly killed the guy. His old man, a former tackle for the Bears, fixed it: do time or the Army. Buff chose the Army. He wasn’t a gung-ho or ra-ra kinda guy. He needed a legal way to hurt somebody. “Maybe I’ll get to kill someone. Or someone will take me out.” He was sullen, scrambled, and hurting.
“It hurts when they dump you.” Rosco had tried to help.
Buff would look away, suck hard on a Camel, and try to conceal his tears.
Buff finished the dog, took a slug of beer, and asked. “What’s the count?”
“One and two, Forster’s got his number. Petrocelli’s good, but tonight he’s overmatched. Forster’s dealing. He’ll jam ‘em and K him.”
Buff turned back to Rosco. “I ain’t no beggar.”
“I know, man. Sorry.”
The two sat perched in the left field upper deck, barely under the roof overhang. Friday night, June 7, 1974. Sox-Boston.
They were roomies. Buff came begging, homeless, about six months after he got back. “I can’t live with the old man.” So they found a cheap walk up, third floor, front window overlooking railroad tracks. Buff slept on the couch while Rosco tossed a mattress on the floor in the tiny bedroom. Rosco knew it wouldn’t be easy. His roomie was no prize before he went in and now he was always ticking, ready to go off. Rosco was working a beer truck with a college degree in his back pocket. Buff had no job and wasn’t looking.
“On the fucking couch again?” Rosco shut the door and threw his coat on a chair. He was covered in sweat, hair matted and greasy, reeking of stale beer, hands cut and swollen. He was a “helper,” not a driver. The driver drove, drank, and stole. The helper crawled into the dank basements of taverns, cases of quarts perched perilously on throbbing shoulders, runaway flats of 24 packs stacked twelve-high on a dolly bumping down the dark narrow flight of stairs, mercilessly yanking at his lower back.
“Leave me alone.”
“What’d you do all day?”
“You ain’t my mother.”
“Rent’s due Friday.”
Buff nodded towards an envelope lying on the coffee table next to a smoldering ashtray.
“What’s that?” Rosco asked.
“My share.”
“You got money?”
“Just made some.” Buff took a drag off the Camel then a big swallow of a long neck. “I got ways.”
“You dealin’?”
Buff kept his eyes fixed on the sixteen-inch black and white Philco, showing the tail end of a stupid game show.
“Are you?” Rosco pressed. He’d had enough shit of his own with the cops not to have a roomie dealing.
“Golf clubs.”
“You don’t golf.”
“The old man’s.”
“Whatayou talkin’ about?”
“His spare set. He won’t notice. I’m good for this month.”
Rosco was right. Petrocelli couldn’t touch Forster and he punched him out easy, no problem.
“What’s that?” Buff pointed to the field, another Camel firmly lodged between two yellow fingers, and another Old Style in his other hand.
“What?” Rosco said, not looking where The Buff was pointing.
“That, down there. First base line.”
“I don’t see nothin’.” Rosco was used to brushing off The Buff when he tended to make big deals out of things that often went unnoticed by others.
“Look at the size of the schwanz on that horse?”
“The hot dog guy ain’t got a thumb.”
And “_That guy’s_ Charlie.”
“Smoke,” he said, struggling to stand. “Look.” He pointed with the Camel, ash blowing into Rosco’s face. “Smoke, for fuck sake!”
He was right. Black smoke billowed from the fist base side concession stand tunnel. Throngs of fans followed, flooding towards the field.
“Jesus, it’s a fire.”
“Who’s up next?” Buff asked, waving the hot dog guy over.
“Who’s up? The place is on fire.” Rosco grabbed him by his tattered Dick Allen jersey.
“Watch it. It’s Richie.”
“It’s rags. Can’t even read the name.”
“MVP.”
“He can play,” Rosco said, a scrap of Richie’s jersey dangling from his hand.
“Watch it! For Christ sake! The jersey.”
“Yeah.” Rosco was ready to leave.
The goggle-eyed inebriate must have been ordered to keep the crowd occupied while the fire department came to size up the situation and possibly even remedy the problem.
“I think Montgomery’s up.” Around ten beers Buff began to jump from thought to thought. “He sucks. Forster will punch him too.”
“The place is on fire. Fuck Montgomery. Let’s get outa here.”
“Ladies and gentleman,” a muffled voice echoed over the field. “We are experiencing a malfunction in the popcorn machine at the first base concourse level. The problem will be rectified soon. Please bear with us during our delay, play will resume shortly.”
“You!” Buff’s boom startled the guy one row up and a couple seats over, who looked like a cross between a bodybuilder and a motorcycle outlaw. “You!” Buff screamed again.
“What the fuck are you doing?”Rosco tried to calm his friend.
Buff waved his tenth Old Style at the guy and growled, “You got the time?”
The guy had a silver chain that dangled from his left front pocket to his right, perfectly outlining his brief-less testicles. He looked at The Buff, smiled, and yanked out a pocket watch the size of a hockey puck from his faded Levis and said, “ten… p.m., fat boy.” His droopy white walrus mustache did a lousy job of concealing his shit-eating grin.
Buff’s eyes flashed. His thick neck tightened, and his fists clenched.
“No, Buff. Not tonight.” Rosco, trying to play counselor to his roommate.
Buff sighed, took a deep breath, finished the Old Style and waved the beer guy over for another.
“You’ve had enough,” Rosco said, not wanting to have to bail him out again. The cops knew their address by heart.
Buff smiled back at the biker-body builder, flipping the Camel in his direction. “Thanks for the time.”
“Ten o’clock. Shit, it’s weird isn’t it? A freakin’ fire at the ball park.” Rosco tried to distract his friend.
“Thanks,” Buff said.
Rosco was confused, “For what?” Sometimes around a dozen beers Buff would get apologetic, then morose, stepping back from the edge.
“Everything.” He looked down at his foot grinding the beer soaked peanut shells into the filthy concrete. “Looking after my fat ass. Putting up with my shit. Fronting me the rent. Sox tickets.” He raised his Old Style, “ Everything.”
“Better than Cubs tickets.” Rosco tried to squeeze a smile out of him.
“Fuck the Cubs.” He spit, propelling a wad of green phlegm onto the sticky yellow railing, brown specks of tobacco flecked his teeth.
Buff was back, out from his drunken dangerous spiral.
“Everybody! Let’s sing a song. Let me hear you, a one, a two, a three.” Harry fucking Carey, the biggest drunk and whoremonger in baseball, blasted over the stadium. “When Irish eyes are….”
The goggle-eyed inebriate must have been ordered to keep the crowd occupied while the fire department came to size up the situation and possibly even remedy the problem.
“Harr-eee, Harr-eee, Harr-eee…,” the crowd roared.
Then the fucking organ, louder than an air raid siren, started up. Nancy Foust, the blonde bombshell organist serenaded the masses. Rosco vaguely recognized the tune. It made him think of his mother, slow, melodic. The old man trying to be cool, slow dancing next to the radio. Smoke Gets In Your Eyes. Corny, stupid, but the drunks in the stands loved it. Even body-builder-biker was swooning with his two hundred-pound honey.
A fine drizzle began and Nancy hit the next song right on top of the fuckin’ head. Rosco recognized this one right off. He could sing the words: “Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone…” “Fire and Rain.” By the depressed, drug-addicted, nasal droner, James Taylor.
“This is nuts.” Rosco turned to Buff, smoke hanging dark and low over the field.
“We ain’t leavin’. This is history,” he slurred, thick tongued and sleepy. “History.”
Goose came on and closed the game out. Three up, three down. Sox won 8-6. It was midnight.
Rosco roused The Buff.
“What!” He awoke throwing punches.
“Game’s over. It’s midnight.”
“Who won?”
“We did. eight to six.”
“Goose come on?”
“Yep, slammed the door.”
“Knew it.” Buff closed his eyes and slunk back into his seat.
“Let’s go. For Chrissake!” Rosco was done.
“Nope.” Buff folded his heavy arms and dug deeper into his undersized seat.
“Midnight! It’s midnight.” Rosco grabbed his friend’s meaty arm.
“Look.” Buff pointed to the smoky sky. “Beautiful, like in ‘Nam.”
“You hate that shit. Brings back memories.”
“Not tonight. I’m with you.”
The sky flared with streaking lights. The heavens boomed. Sulfur filled the air. Midnight and the fireworks had just started.
“Can’t miss this.” Buff settled into his seat and waved over the Old Style man, who was supposed to be shut down for the night. “One for me and one for my buddy.” He pointed at Rosco, generous with his friend’s wallet. The thumbless beer guy popped two and slid them down the seats. “Keep the change,” Buff yelled. The vendor nodded, slipping a few crumpled bills into his pocket.
“Thanks.” The guy yelled back.
Buff slumped back into his green wooden seat. By the time the beer reached them, he was out.
Balancing two Old Styles, through the haze, Rosco looked down on his war-torn friend, twisted like a contortionist, in a seat not big enough for someone half his size, sound asleep, a Camel dangling from his cracked lips, crusted onions still decorating his black beard.
Rosco let him rest. He needed it. He had served.
The sky aglow, rockets shooting into the heavens, bombs bursting in air.
Harry, exhorting the crowd with drunken cheers from the loudspeakers.
The stadium lights slowly illuminated the stands. The Buff did not stir.
Finally, all had departed. Now, only the two of them, high up in the left field bleachers.
A buck a seat.
Smoke rested low over the field.
Still his friend did not stir.
He had served. He had served us well.

Going to see Skinny Lister at The Leadmill, Sheffield (27/4/17)
Just over two months after I made a massive gushing blog about how much I adore this band, I finally got to experience one of their shows and be able to engage with it properly (i.e. being able to sing along with the vast majority of the songs they played). Here’s a summary not just of the gig, but the night as a whole, part review, part me getting the gushing adoration for the night off my chest.
First, a bit of background. This year has been absolutely shit for me so far, I lost my nan a while back and that flared up a very complicated family mess that I’m not gonna go into. Throw into the mix a drastic change in my relationship with one of my closest friends that I’ve been struggling to adjust to, housing issues and long term unemployment, I think it’s fair to say that my mental health hasn’t been the best (hence why this is my first post in months). So as any person in a situation like this would do, I sought solace in what I love the most, for me, this is music.
I also turned 28 a couple of weeks ago so I thought I would treat myself for this occasion and get a ticket for Skinny Lister’s 2nd U.K. tour with new album “The Devil, The Heart & The Fight”. Why did I do this? well, I wrote about that in my last post about the band that you can find at this link. So rather than repeat what I wrote there, I’ll jump straight in and talk about my night.
I got to Sheffield at around quarter past 6, yup, just over a whole hour before the doors opened, so after a quick pit stop at the local maccies I went to find out where the entrance to the venue was, and although it wasn’t made exactly clear, through process of elimination I decided that it was probably the giant door underneath the big red neon sign with the venue’s name on it (I was right but it was a slightly tense hour regardless). I was alone for a total of 10 minutes until I was joined by 3 others, 1 local (originally from Holland) and two fellow visitors from Leeds.
As someone on the Autism Spectrum, I despise small talk with a passion, but I guess in the anticipation of what was to come I felt able to leave my inhibitions back in West Yorkshire and got chatting with these strangers. I was helped somewhat by the fact that they were there purely for the support band AJJ (not bad, might look into their back catalogue at some point once the Skinny Lister high wears off). So we got to go back and forth sharing what we loved about who we were there to see. An hour of this, mixed in with occasional brushes with members of both bands arriving at the venue, and finally the doors opened and I was first in for the night.
I have a correction to make from my previous article. I said that I was front and centre then, when in reality I was front and slightly more towards stage right. This time I truly was front and centre, stood right in front of the centre mic. Downside was that I didn’t get to the bar once that night, but hey I’m not that big of a drinker anyway so no big deal. The support act were decent, I was a bit upset that my pitch to convince those at the front of the queue to stay and watch the main event was unsuccessful but I was ready and after a short intro tape of sea shanty style song intros the six of them were out and launched straight into their 23 song strong set (including a 3 song long encore).
Front and centre meant being right in the face of front woman Lorna Thomas, and while crowd surfing double bass player Michael Camino has now left the band for personal reasons, Lorna more than made up for his absence with her own crowd based antics, each time coming into the crowd balancing on my shoulders and those of the guy stood to my right. She danced with random people in the crowd and she also crowd surfed. You get the sense that she was a ball of energy but you don’t know the half of it until you’re up close and able to see and hear it for yourself, even if she was hampered somewhat by wardrobe malfunctions most of the night, Beat It From The Chest pretty much taken to it’s literal conclusion! This did lead to a funny moment when she asked the woman stood next to me to give her a heads up next time it happens because “I don’t trust ‘im!” pointing at me, clearly meant in jest and taken as such (BTW, found out that night that the band are backers of safe gigs for women, you know, as if this band couldn’t be any more awesome than they already are!).
Being front and centre had another advantage, as it was 3rd time lucky for me in terms of getting the flagon. I’d been told countless times that they filled it with rum, but there’s always that doubt in the back of your mind that they’d never do something that awesome. Well a giant swig later I can categorically confirm that it is in fact rum in there! More than making up for my lack of access to the bar (and well stomached by yours truly despite my general inability to tolerate spirits).
You may have noticed that we’re a whopping 9 paragraphs in and I’ve not said anything about the setlist yet. That’s because it was pretty much the same set from the gig at The Brudenell that I talked about in the previous blog, with a couple of changes, two songs were swapped out, and under normal circumstances, a band dropping two of my favourite songs from a setlist (If The Gaff Don’t Let Us Down & Carry) would have annoyed me a little, but not tonight. In their place we got both a brand new song called Thing Like That and a dedication to a couple due to get married soon in the form of Bonny Away, which has been stuck in my head ever since I left the venue.
One cool thing about being at the front was that I got a glimpse at the setlist taped to the floor by the monitors, but they seemed to do the encore spontaneously (helped by the fact that I also got a view of the setlist at The Brudenell and the encore songs were on the list then, this time they weren’t). So not only did I get a great surprise in the form of those 3 songs, but in a nice move, the gig finished in more than enough time for me to catch the last train to Leeds, but not before one final highlight of the night.
I got to chat with Lorna outside the venue before I left. During that quick chat I confirmed for the other group that was chatting with her that there was in fact rum in the flagon, apologised for not being the best ballast (first time she tried getting into the crowd she almost fell stepping down from the barrier) and congratulated her and the rest of the band on yet another amazing set. We posed for a photo, she thanked me for helping her and then I left for the station.
I can tell you one thing for certain, If you’re in a rough state and need a temporary reprieve, then there is no better way than going to see one of your favourite bands live, having a singalong and generally being in a place where it is so easy to be yourself and have fun. That is what Skinny Lister gave me on Thursday night and I can’t thank them enough for it. This was the best of the 3 gigs of theirs I’ve been to not just because of what it meant to me personally, but just because their gigs are so much better when you can sing along with them. They said on the night that they want us to tell our friends so they can play the bigger stage next time they play The Leadmill, so I’m gonna help out by asking, nay demanding that you check out their music and get a ticket to their next gig near where you live. I promise you wont regret it. Thank you Skinny Lister for the brief break from my struggles and for being such an amazing band!

“Home remedies” - h.s. Part 7
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5 / Part 6
-----
-----
“Life, if anything, is nothing more than a series of moments captured frame for frame as our eyes take in those around us and impact us monumentally,” Harry said, attempting to not sound like he was reading from a card but you knew he totally hadn’t memorized the whole speech completely. You couldn’t help but smirk as you leaned back in your seat and just let it happen.
He’d been keeping the speech a secret from you for weeks. You knew he was presenting and you’d come to terms with that, but you had been nervous for whatever flowery declaration of love he may attempt to pepper into the whole thing. But he was doing a pretty good job, and so far you weren’t as embarrassed as you thought you’d be.
“That’s why photography is so important though, right?” Harry continued, “Because we have so many moments during the day that cause so many different emotions, that we oftentimes look over the most important ones. I know, that with two kids, the little moments can sometimes go unnoticed. But that’s what photography does for us - it allows us to ponder and remember on those little moments that may have passed up by, that make us feel something we didn’t know we possessed, and to help us give thanks for the moments we’ve cherished with others.”
Okay, so maybe now you were crying a little bit, but you weren’t going to let the small tears show as you continued to slouch slightly in your chair, your arms crossed lazily over your stomach as you attempted to act as cool as a cucumber.
Internally though, you were freaking out.
“So it is my greatest pleasure and, I must admit, extreme bragging rights, that I can present the British Photographic Portrait Award to my wife, Y/N Styles.”
The room erupted in applause as you couldn’t help but roll your eyes as Harry giddily waggled the award in front of you as you made your way up to the stage. “You did it!” Harry gleefully handed the award over to you, giving you a hug and a kiss on the cheek, since a real kiss would probably be unprofessional, and squeezing your hand before standing off to the side as you cleared your throat and took your place behind the podium.
“Wow,” you sighed and looked down at the trophy. “What were you hoping that introduction would get you, sweetheart?” you turned to give Harry a childish smile as the audience all shared a laugh as Harry winked at you. Turning back to the mike, you grasped your award tightly in your hands.
“I think Mr. Styles over there did a pretty good job of summing up why it is we photographers do what we do,” you shrugged, “You kind of stole my speech, babe.”
Again the room rippled with laughter as you attempted to not smile so widely your face would split. “But, I mean, every photographer is different. That’s what’s so great about the art of photography. Some of us find more comfort in the company of faces and expressions, while others go out and capture the most beautiful landscapes and scenery that make them feel content with life. That’s what’s so great about photography. I will never get over that.”
You sighed and held the award close to your chest. “I’ve been doing this for a long time, it seems, and each time I am told I’m doing a good job, I’ve done a great shoot or taken a good picture, I always go back to that first time I was in Harry’s backyard unsure of whether or not the picture I had attempted to take on the disposable camera had taken. It wasn’t like the cameras I have now, of course, where they instantly upload to my laptop and I can start editing them however I like. Whatever picture I took, that was the picture I got and I didn’t even get to see it unless I went and got it developed. Most of what was so great about the picture relied on the memory.”
You felt tears fast approaching as you cleared your throat. “But that picture was so wonderful because it was just pure happiness and experimentation with a new contraption. That’s all photography is - experimentation and determination to capture something you don’t know. This award may have my name on it all shiny on the front and thankfully not spelled wrong like basically ever marks card I got in school, but this award stands for so much more. I didn’t start my photography career under my own name. That’s not what photography is about. It’s about what’s on the other side of the lens. And so I’m dedicating this award to all the photographers out there who feel like they aren’t just quite getting it right, because I’m still feeling that way and here I am. So keep trying, keep experiencing life and taking your camera along with you. I’d like to thank my husband, family, and friends for letting me shove my camera in their faces. I’d like to thank my kids for not breaking my lenses as much as I thought small children would, and I’d like to thank my colleagues for always pushing me to take one more picture, try one more angle, and always smiling on the other side of the lens. Thank you.”
The speech was totally out of your ass and you hadn’t planned on saying anything tonight, but you figured it was pretty good as Harry gave you another kiss on your cheek and the young lady in her nice dress showed you two off stage. It had been a while since you and Harry had gone out all fancy like this. His last movie had been over a year ago, and kids kept you busy. But seeing him in his tux, all fancy and looking quite nice for a 38 year-old successful and happy man made your heart soar. Not the mention, you felt hot in this dress.
Tumblr media
“You were lovely,” Harry commented, pulling you into his arms and giving you a quick and proper kiss before holding you tightly in a hug.
“Oh it was all over the place,” you sighed, “But I hope it meant something to someone.”
“It meant something to me.”
“That’s all we can hope for then.”
It hadn’t taken long before your anonymity had come to the surface once you and Harry had officially come out as a couple. People were confused as to who the hell you even were at first, until multiple pictures mysteriously appeared from your childhood and teen years to prompt stories and explanations as to why Harry was so ridiculously obsessed with you so suddenly.
And with your name out in the open, your photography business flourished. You were given the credit you deserved for the work you’d done, and the photography world was so excited to finally put a name to the face of the photographer people had been obsessing over for the past couple years that hardly any haters could break through the walls of compliments and fascination.
Sure, Harry had been a little miffed that your first published piece under your real name to make it into a museum was a picture of you and your ex-boyfriend, but that one piece was followed by many more that Harry had been present for and he couldn’t really complain considering you would come home to him every day and vice versa. Plus, it really was a good picture.
Tumblr media
You sold Kat your flat. It was kind of ridiculous to think that you and Harry wouldn’t move in together. You simple just packed all your stuff up and set up shop in his house, where the two of you were still living today. Plus, it kept Kat close to the both of you, which you enjoyed considering your kids liked her so much.
That was, of course, when she wasn’t being a successful, high paid and internationally acclaimed actress or whatever. She was doing rather well, and though things hadn’t quite worked out with that producer she’d had a crush on, she’d still found Charles, who you found far more attractive and nice anyway.
“Oh Jesus,” you mumbled, clutching your coat around you tighter as you and Harry made your way out of the National Gallery in London that night. It was getting much colder and far more frigid as the holidays approached. You were two weeks away from Christmas, and Mari would be off school soon meaning your house would be much more rambunctious with the approaching holidays.
“I told you that you’d want a thicker coat,” Harry chided, opening the car door for you as the two of you slid in and the driver started making his way towards your house. “But no, it didn’t go with your dress.”
“The walk was literally not even a minute long,” you rolled your eyes, “Don’t be dramatic.”
Harry sighed and leaned back, looking over at you for a moment before mumbling, “C’mere.”
You scooted across the seat, nuzzling against Harry’s warm body as the car smoothly made it’s way down a street, the city lights flashing past you as you took in the scent of Harry and the lingering smell of the outdoors.
“We need to put up the tree tomorrow,” you sighed, wanting desperately to rub your face but you stopped yourself considering the amount of makeup that had been applied hours earlier. Harry groaned.
“It’s going to take ages,” he sighed, “Mari is going to get frustrated because she can’t help decorate, and God knows Teddy is going to be a babbling mess the entire time and won’t even let us do anything for more than five minutes without having to give him all our attention.”
“That’s why your mum is visiting,” you yawned, “We should just make her do it.”
“No. She’d have a proper fit if we didn’t all put the tree up and decorate like a family.”
You sighed, “We sound so old.”
“We aren’t old.”
“But we sound it.”
And you really weren’t that old at all. Within the year of seeing Harry once again, you’d been engaged. You’d been married a year later at 28, and then had your first child at 32. You were now both 38, and you had a six year old smarty pants and a two year old squawking toddler who demanded attention every chance he got. You weren’t old physically, but you felt as though you’d lived an entire lifetime.
“I think we’re doing quite alright though love, don’t you think?” Harry asked, looking down at you and brushing the hair from your face aside as you looked up and regarded his warm and welcoming face.
“Yeah,” you nodded, “We’re doing quite alright.”
Upon returning home, you found that of course neither of your kids were in bed. It wasn’t honestly that late, around 11, but for two small children it was merely ridiculous. Mari slid into the foyer in her sock and little pajamas, her eyes lit up with probably remnants of cookies and sweets as Teddy waddled in excitedly after her.
“Mummaaaaa!” he screamed, gunning straight for you as you lifted him up and he nearly slapped Harry in the face, “Daddy!”
“Shouldn’t you two be in bed?” you tutted, nipping at Teddy’s little nose as he giggled and squirmed in your arms.
Mari rolled her eyes and flashed her hands quickly, Gran said we could stay up and watch your speech.
It had been a sad day to find out upon your daughter’s birth that she was mute. It surely wasn’t something you nor Harry had ever expected, and you knew that part of Harry was crushed that he couldn’t share any of his lyrical gifts with his first born. But Mari was far smarter than the two of you had been at her age, and nothing was holding her back. You and Harry had quickly applied to start learning sign language, and many of your friends and family had joined in as well. Mari was at no loss of people to talk with, and her hearing was immaculate, so you felt lucky and blessed to know she could still hear her father sing her to sleep whenever she wished.
“Oh Gran said that did she?” Harry asked, “I bet you also begged a bit, huh?” he raised an eyebrow and Mari gave him a challenging look.
Your speech was okay too Dad.
This made Harry laugh, scooping her petit little frame up into his arms and attacking her face with kisses. “Thank you poppet,” he smiled, “Feels good to be recognized for my talents.”
Anne came tiredly out of the living room, the sound of the news on lightly in the background as she smiled at the four of you. “Even if I hadn’t said it was okay, I’m sure they would have found their way down here.”
“I’ll put them to bed,” Harry volunteered. He placed Mari down as she raced up the stairs, Teddy’s already sleepy body falling into his arms as you took off your coat and took his to hang them up.
“You both did wonderfully tonight,” Anne smiled and brushed some hair from your face. “And you look lovely.”
“Thank you,” you yawned, “I hope I looked far more awake than I actually feel.”
“You were nothing but graceful dear,” Anne smiled, “Would you like some tea?”
“Please,” you nodded as you followed your mother-in-law towards the kitchen. Anne, and the rest of the Styles family, had been nothing but inclusive when you came back into Harry’s life as more than his childhood friend. Though Gemma continued to stand by the fact that she knew you would end up together, everyone had been pleasantly surprised to the point that Anne had been in tears she was so excited. You had received nothing but love and support from the family as you officially became part of it, and you couldn’t be more grateful.
“We’ll put the tree up tomorrow,” you informed Anne as the two of you sat at the kitchen island. “Harry and I are not quite looking forward to it, but we know how much it all means to the kids. Plus, what’s Christmas without a tree?”
“I give you both about three more years before you start getting a fake one that you put together each year,” Anne smirked, “You’re both so lazy.”
“Hey now,” you tsked, “I’ve put a tree up now twice pregnant, so I feel as though I’ve done my time.”
Anne laughed, “Your kids are so wonderful. So sweet and loving. They take care of each other so well.”
“If there’s anything we’ve taught them, it’s to love one another. Mari has great friends from school, and she’s a very loving person, but family always comes first. I can’t help but always think what if ... you know ... what if Harry and I weren’t here for them one day?”
Anne’s hand found yours rather quickly as she gave it a reassuring squeeze. “I know you think often of what it was like growing up without parents. You’re a strong woman, Y/N, but we all have our weaknesses, our flaws. But you and Harry are some of the best parents I’ve ever witnessed, and you’re doing everything right. Even if, God forbid, you and Harry weren’t around one day I know that Mari and Teddy are going to be cared for not only by each other, but from so many other loved ones that are here to watch them grow up and give them whatever they need.”
You nodded, “I know that. It’s just sometimes hard to not wonder.”
“I understand,” Anne leaned in and gave you a hug. “Now you’ve both had a long night. Why don't you go and get out of that dress and get some rest.”
“Thank you Anne,” you smiled tiredly, “I’m glad you’re visited.”
“It does get lonely when Robin travels,” Anne sighs, “I can’t express how grateful I am for how open your house always is.”
“Oh believe me,” you chuckled, “If you hadn’t been here all the times you were, this house might not be here anymore. It could have easily burned down or Teddy might have blown it up at some point, if not Harry.”
You both laughed and said goodnight, before you were lying on your bed, face washed free of makeup and dress discarded on the floor. You heard Harry walk into your room and grunting at the sight of you in nothing but your strapless bra and thong.
“Don’t tempt me woman,” he threatened half-heartedly, squeezing your bum on his way to the closet to hang his jacket. He picked up your dress on the way, stretching once he stood back up.
“‘M too tired anyway,” you grumbled against your pillow. You felt Harry’s warm fingers unclasp your bra and nudge for you to sit up. You did so, reaching your arms up as he pulled your pajama shirt over your head and tossing your bra aside.
“And muh mum’s here,” Harry sighed, “Still.” He curled up next to you, pulling you into his body as you both let out yawns to show just how tired you both were.
“I’ll go pick up the tree tomorrow,” Harry mumbled against your back, his forehead pressed between your shoulder blades.
“I have to go into the office for a bit. Got to get some things in order before I can take off.”
Harry groaned but didn’t protest as you both slowly started to fall asleep. “Luh ya,” he mumbled right as sleep started to take him under. You grunted back words you were pretty sure equaled the phrase, but you were both too tired to think as you slowly slipped into unconsciousness.
Come the morning, Harry was up and making breakfast for the kids as you took a shower and got ready for a morning of work.
You look nice Mummy, Mari signed as you made your way into the kitchen, heels in one hand and a stack of papers in other.
Tumblr media
“Thanks darling,” you kissed the top of her head before doing the same to Teddy and then walking around the kitchen table, pressing your body against Harry’s and giving him a kiss.
“I’ll be back after lunch,” you promised, using Harry’s forearm to steady your balance as you put on your shoes. “Call if you need anything.”
“We’ll have fun picking out the tree, huh guys?” Harry asked and the kids nodded, Mari signing that she was excited as Teddy clapped his hands. You reached over to get a mug of coffee, smelling the bacon sizzling and gagging slightly.
“Oh God,” you groaned, clutching your stomach as you felt the nausea overtake you for a moment. “Oh no thanks.”
“You alright love?” Harry asked, furrowing his eyebrows and grasping your upper arm as you leaned against the kitchen sink. “Still feeling ill?”
“Yeah,” you sighed, “Just felt sick there for a moment. I really need to get some more sleep.”
You felt ill when you didn’t sleep well, and with the awards ceremony and some of your work that had been keeping you up, you hadn’t been sleeping well in the past couple weeks. Harry regarded you for a moment before using his Daddy voice on you as if you were a child, “If you don’t think you’ve gotten enough sleep and you aren’t feeling well, you shouldn’t go into work.”
“I’ll be fine,” you rolled your eyes, “I’m only staying until lunch. I’ll be back probably around one.” You started to walk towards the door when Harry caught up with you and grasped your arm, turning you towards him and pressing his fingertips against your temple, brushing your hair away.
“Babe, you haven’t been feeling well for about a month now. Don't you think we should maybe get you checked out?” he asked softly. “I’m worried about you.”
“I’m fine, really H. I promise,” you gave him a reassuring smile and reached up on your tiptoes to give him a kiss on his forehead. “If this was something I was worried about, I would act on it. I’m just tired. The holidays are going to be good for us; I’ll get some sleep and feel better. I’m just worn down.”
“Then don’t go to work,” Harry pleaded, “Just stay here with us. Go back to bed. You’re working yourself exhausted love, and I’m exhausting myself worrying about you.”
“It’s cute that you care this much,” you squeezed his hand.
“Well, we are married,” he chuckled.
“I’m all good,” you nodded, “Promise. I’ll be back later this afternoon, okay?”
Harry sighed, “Have a good day at work.” You gave him one more kiss before grabbing your bag again and squeezing his hand.
You left with a wave to Anne as she came down the stairs and you made your way out into the cold brisk morning London greeted you with. The office was humming with energy as photographers bustled around to get their last minute work done before many of them were going on vacation.
You still worked for Ellis & Co., but you were now the CEO and a senior photographer. Getting a photo shoot with you was like being interviewed by Oprah at this point, and though you still liked to pretend you weren’t as celebrated as you were, you enjoyed the large office and assistants that came with your rising power.
“You looked hot last night,” Tilly said, coming into your office without even asking your assistant if she could come in. Tilly was your right-hand girl at the company now, and had made a pretty successful track record for herself in her own right as a photographer. She was recently married too, which was super excited considering Phillip, her newlywed husband was also at the company and they were the talk of everyone’s office gossip. Mostly because they were so freaking cute.
“Thank you,” you chuckled, looking through some paperwork before sitting down at your desk and flipping open your laptop and turning on your computer.
“I bet Harry thought so as well.” Tilly smirked and placed herself at the edge of your desk, observing as you worked and tried not to be influenced by her suggestions.
“He did pick out the dress.”
“Knew it. He picks out anything with lace.”
You laughed, leaning back in your chair and rubbing your temples. “Did Rebecca ever get back to you on whether or not she was booking that fashion blog thing next week? Or did she decide to do it after break?”
“I believe after break. She has a hot new boyfriend she’s going on vacation with to a tropical paradise.”
“Oh that sounds so nice,” you groaned. “Shit.”
“When was the last time you and Harry took a vacation just for yourselves, hm?” Tilly asked, “It may be time.”
“No we went away about a month ago,” you waved that idea aside. “I mean, he was working and I visited him in the Swiss Alps but the resort was really nice and we weren’t with the kids so that was refreshing. I love my kids so much of course obviously duh, but two weeks without them was also ... nice.”
“Yeah but Harry was working,” Tilly whined, “You guys should just take some couple time, you know? Get away and lounge on a nude beach or something.”
“There was plenty of nudity in the Swiss Alps,” you shot back, “Don’t imply my life is boring.”
“I wasn’t.”
“In 16 years both Mari and Teddy will be out of the house and off to college,” you leaned back in your chair and closed your eyes, “And that’s what we’re looking forward to.”
“You’re looking forward to that already?” Tilly chuckled, “Yikes.”
“No. Stop that. You’re making me feel like a bad mum. No, we love our kids very much. They are everything to us and we enjoy absolutely everything we get to do with them,” you snapped, “But that being said, I’m tired of having to quickly do it before the kids wake up. I miss traveling whenever I wanted to. Now when I travel for work it’s not a mini vacation, you know? It’s a vacation for the kids and I hate amusement parks.”
“You loved Disney.”
“Disney is different and you know it.”
You didn’t really know what was wrong with you. Things had been great recently and better than you ever could have imagined. You were so grateful for your kids, they were your pride and joy, and you couldn’t have gotten luckier than to have Harry as their father. Your family was a solid unit and you loved everything about your life. But right now you were just not in the mood and you didn’t even know why you were so grouchy. But Tilly found it absolutely hysterical and rode it out for the rest of the morning until you were on your way back home.
Walking through the door, you were surprised to find the house lively and loud considering this was usually Teddy’s nap time. But there was Christmas music blasting from the living room and laughter ringing through the hallways.
“I’m home!” you called, tossing your bag, coat and keys to the side and not even attempting to place them in their right places before you heard little feet scampering towards you. Teddy got to you first as you lifted him up and kissed all over his face before Mari was pulling at your dress, attempting to get your attention as her hands flew so quickly.
Dad put the tree up and we started hanging the lights and Teddy knocked over a box of ornaments so we had to find where they rolled and Gran made cookies for us to eat and said we could make some for Santa soon! She was smiling ear to ear and you leaned down to give her a kiss on the forehead as you laughed.
“And we’ve been playing Christmas music!” Teddy added, gripping to you tightly as his eyes gleamed with excitement.
“Sounds like you’ve had a very successful morning!” you smiled, placing Teddy back down as he ran back off to the festivities.
Harry was lying on the couch with a Santa hat over his face, his long legs crossed and his hands clasped on his stomach as you made your way into the bright and colorful Winter Wonderland your living room had been turned into.
“Hey there,” you chuckled, sitting down and tugging the hat from his face slowly. Harry blinked rapidly for a moment, taking a big breath in before rubbing his eyes.
“Hey,” he mumbled tiredly. He reached out and brushed his fingertips across your face, pulling at your chin as you leaned forward and gave him a kiss. “How was work?”
“Fine,” you nodded, “Busy. Where’s your mum?”
“She went to the grocer’s to get some things for the party,” Harry yawned, sitting up and pulling you to him as you watched your kids start to decorate your tree. “Doesn’t look half bad, huh?” he asked.
“No,” you couldn’t help but smile, “No it does not.”
It was usually Kat that threw the Christmas party, but considering your group of friends and circle of acquaintances was growing so significantly as your children all started to make friends and your businesses grew, the concept of having a party in the small flat you once owned wasn’t the smartest idea. And so that’s how you found yourself applying makeup Christmas Eve with a half zipped up dress on and bobby pins all up in your hair holding it away from your face.
The door to your room opened and Mari came skipping in. Her curly hair that she’d inherited from her father had been properly curled and was pinned away from her face, showing off her gorgeous eyes and smile as she watched you do your makeup.
Dad was talking to Gran about you today, she signed while intently watching as you applied some blush.
“Oh yeah?” you asked, “What were they saying little spy?”
Just that you aren’t feeling well, Mari pouted, Are you okay Mumma?
“Oh yes dear I’m totally fine. Just tired. Work has been very busy lately,” you smiled at her and brushed a stray hair away from her face. “You look very lovely tonight sweetheart.”
Thank you, Mari let out a long sigh, How will Santa know when to come if all these people are going to be in our house?
“I’m sure he’ll wait until everyone has left and then you and Teddy can sleep on the couch just like every year. No worries lovely.”
Mari smiled widely at this, nodding her head and signing that she was going to go and check on Gran and the food before hopping off the little seat she’d been on and making her way out the door, nearly knocking Harry over in the process.
“Whoa there little one!” he chuckled, dodging her little body as he entered the room. “Hello gorgeous.”
“You need to be more careful when you’re talking to Anne around the kids. You forget your daughter has super hearing.” You finished applying makeup and stood up, stepping into your heels as you turned your back to Harry for him to finish zipping it up.

“I do often forget,” Harry sighed and reached down, kissing your shoulder. “How are you feeling today?”
“Fine,” you nodded, “Better if you stopped asking.”
“Baby ...” Harry started and sat down on your bed, watching you as you put on your earrings. You turned and looked at him, your eyes wide as he just stared back with a look of confusion. “What ...?” he asked you suspiciously.
“Baby,” you whispered, reaching for your stomach and just staring at Harry with wide eyes. He stood up abruptly, hands flying to his face as he stepped forward.
“You think...?” he cleared his throat and tugged at his collar. “Have you been late recently?”
“I ... I haven’t even thought about it with everything going on,” you said, going over to your phone and checking your calendar. You were late, really late, and you cursed under your breath for not realizing it.
“Oh my God,” you groaned, sitting down on your bed and resting your face in your hand.
“We ... we don’t know for sure,” Harry said hesitantly, coming over to sit next to you and resting his hands on your shoulders. “How would you feel if we were pregnant?”
The thought hadn't even occurred to you. You were so happy with the family you had now, you’d never thought of adding to it. A dog, maybe, but another kid?
“I don’t know,” you whispered, more to yourself than to your husband. “I don’t know if we can handle another. I mean, things already were hard with Mari and the sign language and then Teddy is starting to show signs of asthma when we’re at the park. We’re both so busy ...”
You leaned back against Harry as the two of you sat in silence for a moment. “I think ...” Harry started and then waited for a moment, contemplating his thoughts. “I think that if we are pregnant,” he started again, “That once we have the child, we won’t even remember what it was like not expecting to have another little one in our lives.”
“You think we can do it though?” you asked, “Shit, we’re both so tired already. Maybe we should have waited longer to have kids.”
“We’re fine,” Harry reassured you. You turned to look at him as he clasped your hands in his. “We’re great parents. You’re a wonderful mum and I am so proud to see you with our children every day.”
“It all makes sense now,” you groaned, “The mood swings, the irritableness - I’ve always felt that right at the beginning - and the sudden nausea during the day. I don’t know how either of us looked over it.”
“Like you said,” Harry shrugged, “We’ve been busy.”
You sighed and observed Harry for a moment, reaching up and running your fingers through his slightly unruly hair. “You’re a great dad too,” you nodded, “Yeah. You’re a really great dad. Regardless of how many kids I come home to at the end of the day or no matter how stressed or tired I get, it’s coming home that makes everything worth it.”
“But when it comes down to it, you’re my home,” Harry nodded, “I love our children, I love the life we’ve made for each other. But you’re my home. You’re the one that as soon as you came back into my life everything became better. Coming home finally felt like coming back to something, and if we aren’t pregnant I’m going to be okay with that. If we are, hell I’m going to be excited too.”
You nodded and rested your forehead against his chest. “This is ridiculous,” you mumbled.
“Well considering the rate we went at it in the Alps, I’d say this is pretty normal actually. I’m surprised I’m even surprised you’re pregnant.”
“We don’t know for sure,” you chuckled.
“Love,” Harry raised an eyebrow, “Yesterday you yelled at me for how I put away the spoons in the kitchen. You never care about the kitchen. You’re pregnant.”
You both were laughing before you knew it and there was a soft knock on the door. Anne poked her head in and smiled at the two of you, “Everything okay in here, you two?”
“Yeah Mum,” Harry stood as you took his offered hand and stood with him. “We’re all good.”
“We actually just found out there’s three,” you gave her a soft smile and Harry rested his hand on your stomach, something you knew he’d been wanting to do since the moment you’d suggested it. He let out an obnoxious giggle, leaning forward and nuzzling his nose into your cheek as you batted him away.
“Oh!” Anne smiled widely, coming over to the two of you and giving you a hug, “Oh that’s so exciting!” she gasped, tears welling in her eyes as she placed her hands on your cheeks and then Harry’s. “What a happy Christmas!” she exclaimed. “Well, this is so wonderful. Congratulations!”
“Thanks Mum,” Harry chuckled and you leaned against his side as he wrapped his arm around you. “We should probably go get ready for the guests.”
“Right! That’s just what I was coming up here to do,” Anne smiled, giving you one last hug before turning and making her way down stairs.
Harry turned to you and winked. “Happy Christmas, Y/N.”
“Happy Christmas, Harry.”
There’s really no place like home for the holidays. No place can remedy what you’re feeling until you’re home with the ones you love, celebrating in the warmth and love of those who have supported you through so much. Harry was all that you needed to feel at home, as were you to him. And with the five month old with you the next holiday season bouncing on your lap as you watched Harry once again attempt to put up yet another tree, you knew that home was truly the best place on earth and you were lucky to have such a wonderful home to be a part of.
-----
-----
I don’t really know what that was, but I was feeling all mushy and happy about the holidays with a cute family so there you go. I hope you enjoyed this one shot. I’m planning on doing more fun one shots with happy lovey-dovey people if you’d like more, so if you’re interested in me writing anymore stuff, let me know! Thank you everyone! This was truly so much fun!

36 People With A Solid Sense Of Humor
One of my favorite qualities in another person is a solid sense of humor. Funny people can make every situation more entertaining. So if you’re having a bad day, or could even use a quick distraction from your responsibilities, check out these folks who definitely know how to make a joke.
1. “Ohhhhh yeahhhh!” Whoever did this probably got so fed up with the wall that they just decided to turn it into a joke instead. Rumor has it that the Kool-Aid Man is still on the loose to this day.

2. It seems like this sign has some pretty bad seasonal allergies. Either that, or the person in charge of making the sign was being lazy and decided it would be less work to make this joke.
Reddit | matherly32
3. When this RadioShack went out of business, the owners decided that they should have one last laugh and make the sign say “Adios” as a final farewell to their customers.
Reddit | zgp5002

Reddit | hysnbrg4

I am not entirely sure how this made him feel better, but his Twitter profile pic would suggest he is quite proud.

Too bad my self-esteem has been crushed over the years and they would not make a penny over me. Didn’t think about that, did ya?
Instagram | @unilad

Not a bad game if you have a keen eye for up-and-comers. But for a small-time revenge scheme, it seems like it’s pretty legit.
Instagram | @unilad

33 Reasons Why I love Oscar Octavio Silva: A reason for each day since we've started officially dating on September 3rd, 2017. 💜
1. You give the most amazing hugs. They always make me feel loved and safe.
2. The adoring look you give me when I'm next to you, whether I'm sitting in the passenger seat of your car, lying by your side in bed, or just standing next to you wherever we happen to be—my heart always flutters and skips a beat.
3. You have such a warm and caring heart. I could tell from day one that when you like someone, you do/give whatever you can to make them happy. That’s a rare quality to have because humans tend to be selfish creatures, but you do so much for people without ever asking for anything in return. That’s such a beautiful trait to possess.
4. You're the most considerate individual I know. You always make sure that what you're doing is in the best interests of your loved ones.
5. You’re an incredibly thoughtful person. From remembering what my Wing Stop order is, to my favorite candy/ice cream— you never cease to amaze me by remembering the most minute details about me. Thank you for always taking the time to remember the little things about me.
6. Your willingness to try. Ever since we started talking until now, I can always feel the love/effort you've put in building our relationship. Thank you for keeping the quirky traditions we have alive, like telling me the reasons why you love me each night, always calling me whenever you have free time, and making sure I'm the last voice you hear before you go to bed. Thank you for continually making sure that things between us aren't just phases. You make keeping the love alive seem so effortless.
7. Your sense of style. I've actually noticed this about you since the first day I met you, but you have a very unique sense of style. I love the way you dress. It's minimalistic, yet edgy and unique in its own way. You know how to pair things together in a way that stands out, but is mutedly simple all at the same time.
8. Your hair. You have the softest hair that I love to play with. Not to mention your hair color is sooooooooooo freaking beautiful. It's like an ashy, soft, chestnut brown. I hope our kids are blessed with those genes from you.
9. Your eyes. That Sunday we went out on our 2nd official date, I got to steal better glances of your eyes. They're such a beautiful shade of hazel. I didn't tell you this, but when you were staring at me as we were in your Jeep, the sunlight’s rays would beam against your face, and they made your eyes sparkle and gleam the most beautiful shade of green that I've ever seen. I was silently swooning hard, thinking to myself, and wondering how did I ever get to lucky to stumble upon since an amazing, beautiful human being whom I love both inside and out.
10. Your touch. Whether I'm held by you, pressed against you, or just beside you... I feel this infinite connection when our bodies are near each other. Your touch gives me instantaneous goosebumps, that make me want to unfold and peel every layer of myself for you. I can infinitely be lost in a universe of just us two whenever I'm around you.
11. You're my Rave Bae. Honestly after locking eyes with you during Flume when Say It dropped, there was a split second when I asked myself, "Did I really meet ravebae?" To answer that question now presently: YES. You're the ravebae I've been searching for all this time. Honestly I didn't even realize that until the last day of the Forest, when I began recapping highlights of the weekend. Every good memory that I remembered/recalled somehow included you. That's when I knew... you were the Rave Bae I’ve been searching for all this time that I never in my wildest dreams, imagined existing.
12. I LOVE cuddling with you. Ever since that first night we cuddled at the Forest in Rosa and Maritsa’s tent until now— being in your arms just feels right. It was like our bodies were made and molded to fit one another. I sleep a lot better when I’m sleeping with you. Truthfully, cuddles with you are the best cuddles I’ve ever had.
13. The way you pull me in closer to you when we sleep next to each other. This reason is an extension of the last reason, but I feel like it’s noteworthy in its own right. I used to always see this action in the scenes of movies, but have never personally experienced it until I started sleeping next to you. It’s such a safe and loving feeling knowing that your body is next to mine, no matter how many times I turn and toss throughout the night. Whether I’m half asleep, or waking up in the middle of the night to turn to the other side, I love that you always shift and make sure your arms are still caressed around me.
14. Whenever we’re together, whether we’re doing something completely normal like going to the grocery store, scanning the aisles for things that we need, or next to each other, with our shoulders brushed up against one another at a festival— I feel like I can conquer the world with you. I’ve never felt so at ease and at peace with anyone else in my 24 years of life.
15. You always know the right things to do/say to make me happy, or cheer me up.
16. You truly understand the depths of my soul— the darkest realms of my mind, and the things that make me who I am, both good and bad. I’ve never had anyone analyze me so well, nor have I ever had anyone tell me that being an over-thinker was a good thing until you did. Thank you for recognizing and appreciating that quality about me. You make me feel like my anxiety isn’t an issue, but an asset.
17. You’re a good listener. I feel comfortable telling you anything and everything. I’ve never had that with anyone before. I know that I can confide in you with whatever thoughts are on my mind with no judgement whatsoever. I’ve never been so open to someone in such a short period of time. Honestly, even calling you for the first time after the Forest, and confiding in you was a huge step that I’ve never taken with anyone else before.
18. How we naturally gravitate towards each other without even trying. I noticed that after reflecting on Electric Forest. Whether we were walking from one stage to the next, or enjoying a set somehow, we managed to end up next to each other. It’s like our bodies subconsciously were telling us before we even realized that we liked each other. Body language is definitely a thing with you. I’ll always gravitate to be aligned in your orbit, babe.
19. We have the same sense of humor. When you brought up Dillon Francis’s SnapChat the first night we met, I remember thinking to myself how uncanny it was that we had so much in common. Especially during his set, when we started cracking jokes about how we were only there for Gerald, and when we started talking about Forrest Gump randomly. You secretly earned 1,000 brownie/cool points from me that night.  Even now, we continually laugh at the same jokes, and honestly I think that’s been one of the best parts of our relationship.
20. WE HAVE SO MUCH IN COMMON THAT IT’S KIND OF CREEPY. I thought that day when we blurted out the same thing after seeing that Finding Nemo totem in the Forest was strange, but then you completely blew my mind when we found out our parents had failed meat market businesses a couple of weeks later when we were on the phone. Like seriously, WHAT ARE THE ODDS?! I like knowing that though because it makes me realize that even though we grew up in completely different states, we somehow lived/experienced the same childhood, and come from the same socioeconomic background. We understand what the American Dream is, experienced the same hardships in life, and truly know importance of successes and failures.
21. We like the same music. Our shared taste for EDM music, a sense of inclusiveness, and love for festivals and raving, allowed for our paths to cross fatefully. We feel the same way about country music, LOL. We like the same genres and sub-genres in EDM— from Riddim, Future Bass, Trance, Dubstep, Straight Bass, Melodic, House, Deep House, Tropical House, etc. The list could go on and on, but honestly that’s pretty rare for two people to really share that much in common with each other when it comes to music. Everyone’s taste is usually very singular, but for some reason ours are so linear. Which brings me back to the previous reason, LOL we have so much in common that it’s kind of creepy. But I also love that about us.
22. You have the cutest laugh. I swear by it.
23. Your voice. Weirdly enough, the first night we met... when I started talking to you during A-trak, I noticed how warm and comforting your voice was. It made talking to you very easy. I love your voice, Senpai.
24. You’re so handsome, but you don’t even know it. Like I’ve said before, you’re the first and only person that I’ve dated, and mega-swooned over. Joseph from ARMNHMR has nothing on you. I’d pick you over him ANY DAY.
25. You truly are my Senpai. You know why. ;)
26. Your humility. I love that you’re such a humble person. You acknowledge and know what qualities you can bring to the table, but you don’t brag. I really admire that about you.
27. You’re really smart and grounded. I’ve never been able to hold such deep, intellectual conversations with anyone on the level that we have had before. We can talk about virtually anything, and you can keep up with any of the topics. I really like that. I learn new things from you as well. I feel like each day with you is one in which we’d never stop growing, and experiencing new things— I love that.
28. You use correct punctuation whenever we text/message each other. That might seem like a weird reason to someone else, but for a nerdy “Grammar Nazi” like myself, that’s a quality that I really appreciate. It shows that you not only take the time and effort to really think about what you’re saying, but there’s nothing hotter than someone who knows how to use an Oxford comma. Hehe.
29. You always make time to talk to me. I’ve never had someone do that for me before. You always call when you say that you’re going to. I really appreciate that you make the time and effort to call me, even when it’s just a brief five minute conversation while you’re on a lunch break, walking to your next class, or whenever you have a moment of free time. I really appreciate that you’re always thinking of me.
30. You make me feel secure. After my past relationships, I knew that a sense of security was one of the things I would not settle for under any circumstances. I know that I can trust you 110%, thank you for always reminding me of this when I need it... and especially in times when I don’t even ask for it. You have no idea how much weight that carries with me. It means the world, babe.
31. I can see myself marrying you, and us building a future together. I’ve never been able to picture that with anyone else before with no hesitation. But with you, it’s easy. I know that I want to build a future with you.
32. You always smell good. It makes me want to hug you all day, everyday. But I’d hug you even if you were smelly, but that’s practically impossible for you.
33. You make it so easy to love you. It’s all these reasons, and so much more that I love you. Honestly, I could keep going. If there’s one thing I’ve learned after all my trials and tribulations in life— it’s that love is, and should be, easy. Because when you know, you just know. You’d do anything and everything to fight for that person, and vice versa. You never waver. You don’t hesitate. You follow your heart blindly. Things might not be peachy all the time, but loving this person becomes even easier as the days pass because there’s always something new to learn/love them even more for. That’s how I feel about you. Honestly, I’ve been wanting to express all the reasons why I love you for so long, but whenever I’m next to you... I’m so overwhelmed with emotions that I forget what I want to say. So I’m glad that I could express it to you this time in the best way I know how— by writing. Not even all these words and sentences could capture the love that I feel for you, but it’s the closest tangible representation of such. You’re the first person that I’ve ever been able to write so freely and easily about. Thank you for being so amazingly you. I will always love you for everything that you are, everything that you’re not, and everything that you could be. Happy one month anniversary, babe. I love you, and I will forever love you infinitely, eminently, and endlessly, Oscar Octavio Silva.
With love,
Your girlfriend, Irlee Uyen Nguyen

Modern, Minimalist Mom Capsule Wardrobe – Year 3
My minimalist mom capsule wardrobe was so popular the last two years (and made dressing each day so fun and easy) that I couldn’t help do it again this year. Only a little bigger and even better.
Every piece here is a proven winner– that shirt, cardigan, hoodie, and pair of jeans that you’ll reach for again and again. The ones that you love to wear and can be worn a millions different ways. These are the items that keep us comfortably chasing the kids all day- cotton, denim, and sneakers- done in such a laid-back-chic way.
The result is a high-performing, workhorse of a wardrobe that will give you an effortlessly cool look every day of the week.
Plus, for the first time ever, the ENTIRE WARDROBE is from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale so you have the opportunity to save big.
If you’re already a Nordstrom card holder, you can shop the sale now! If not, you’ll get your chance to shop these sales on Friday, July 21st. If you want to get in on these finds you have to hurry, though, items are selling out rapidly and the sale is ending soon.
  Classic Tops
Free People Split Back Turtleneck
$68, Now $44.90
This looks so cozy and I love that it’s edgy while being totally covered up. I would wear it with both jeans and yoga pants (win!) and layered with a simple tank like this favorite also on sale!
  Hunter Plaid Shirt
 $148 Now $99.90
I always have to have at least one quality plaid (I’m from Seattle, are you surprised?) Plus, so great for layering under vests and sweaters… But they aren’t all equal and the drape and material of this one are top notch.
Make + Model Brushed Hacci Sweatshirt
$45 $29.90
I love me a stylish sweatshirt! Because honestly, if I can wear sweats all day and still look good, I’m gonna do it! This looks extra, extra soft and would be a great staple please- especially at this amazing price.
Lush Raw Edge Side Slit Tee
$24 Now $15.90
I’ve come to despise basic straight bottom tees. Why? Because they can make any outfit look dowdy. This twist on the boring basic tee is a great way to up your style points on any outfit you put together.
  Pants
PAIGE Hoxton High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans
$189 Now $99
I’ve been looking for some darker wash jeans to wear to girls’ nights and date nights and with this discount, it’s kinda impossible to resist.
Everyone I know adores Paige jeans and I’m no exception. They are the first luxury brand jeans I started buying regularly because I know they will last and I’ll get more than my money’s worth. Plus, they make me feel great when I wear them and this high-waisted design will be especially slimming!
PAIGE Transcend Hoxton High Waist Undone Hem Skinny Jeans
$199 Now $131.90
Speaking of Paige jeans, this pair is at the absolute top of my wish list. I wear A LOT of jeans (like every day that I’m not wearing yoga pants the 9 months of the year it’s not sunny here). So when I find a pair that gives me a chance to show off a little flair without going crazy, I get excited.
The slanted hems are really cool (I like them so much better than the step hem that is popular right now) and I could see wearing these while volunteering at school as well as for date night making them super versatile.
Note: If you’re looking for a more straight-laced black jean, check out this pair of Instasculpt skinny jeans also on sale- because who doesn’t want to be instascupted?!
Zella Live In Slim Fit Leggings in Grey Graphite
$59 Now $38.90
As I said, I wear almost exclusively jeans and yoga pants in cooler weather and the only yoga pants I wear are Zella. I ALWAYS stock up during the #NSale too because of the great prices.
The thickness of these pants makes me always feel sucked in and sleek without feeling compressed if you know what I mean. I’m excited to add this grey graphite pair to the rotation.
  Zella All In Ankle Leggings
$75 Now $49.90
Although I’ve seen the high waist Zella leggings (on sale for $35) featured by a ton of fashion bloggers this year. I still prefer the mid-rise, ankle cut (the high rise just makes my hips and stomach look weird).
I like that these are a subtle upgrade of the basic black tight too.
  Sweaters
Free People Electric City Pullover Sweater
$98 Now $64.90
Maybe it’s because I’m a child of the 80s but I just can’t resist a comfy sweater to curl up in front of the fire with a good book in. This one is so pretty and doesn’t look bulky or scratchy, both of which are a total must.
Billabong Snuggle Off the Shoulder Sweater
This is probably the edgiest of my picks. I wouldn’t wear it during my normal day-to-day but I love it for fall or winter date nights. It’s just sexy enough to make it special.
Gibson Bell Sleeve Cozy Fleece Pullover
$59, Now $39.90
The bell sleeves on this top are so feminine and current, who would guess it’s made of fleece?! Did I mention how much I like to be comfortable?
Note: If you like this sleeve, definitely check out this super fun top for nights out – now 40% off!
  Layering Pieces
Caslon® Mixed Print Open Front Long Cardigan
$89, Now $49.90
I have picked up a long cardigan with a cool design at each of the last couple sales and I always get so many compliments on them. This is definitely the one for this year.
  Love Token Faux Shearling Vest
$120, Now $79.90
I’ve been eyeing faux shearling vests like this since last year’s sale but just couldn’t decide if I was edgy enough to be able to rock one. The knit back of this one makes it feel more accessible to me for some reason and it just looks so ridiculously comfy!
Vince Camuto Contrast Trim Quilted Vest
$118, Now $58.90
Is there anything better than a quilted vest on a crisp and cool fall day? They are so wonderful for staying warm (something I struggle with) and I really love the interesting contrasting colors and gold details on this one. It’s a total stand out amongst the standard quilted vest and it’s 50% off!!
  BLANKNYC Chill Pill Cardigan
$88, Now $57.90
This contrasting cardigan is another super warm item that you can wear with anything. It’s also a unique piece that not every other mommy at school pick up will be wearing. Such a good find.
  Athleisure Tops
Brunette Fries Before Guys Sweatshirt
$79, Now $51.90
I love a soft sweat shirt for cool evenings, to pair with yoga pants while on the go, or for lounging around in once I’ve changed into my PJs around 6 pm (I’m not the only one who does this am I?).
Also, if you have daughters they NEED to see you casually rocking this, like every day. Let’s make not so subliminal messaging work for us guys!
The North Face Hooded Fleece Pullover
$99, Now $69.90
If your kid has an outside sport, this is the top you must buy! Take it from this Pacific Northwesterner, cozy plush fleece is luxuriously warm – especially when layered under a coat on a cold and windy field. Treat yourself, you won’t be sorry.
  Nike Gym Zip Hoodie
$60, Now $36.98
This vintage zip hoodie is so light-weight and soft that it feels like butter. I think I wore it every day for two weeks straight when I first got it. Great for moderate weather as well as layering when it gets cooler.
  Zella Drop the Armhole Tank
$39
I have a confession to make; although I love running around in yoga pants and I think the athleisure trend was maybe one of the best things to happen to me, I still have trouble figuring out what to wear with them.
I’m a fan of the half tuck when I wear jeans so I often feel like untucked tees and tanks with my yoga pants look a little off. That’s why I included this tank from Zella even though it’s the only item in the capsule not currently on sale. The tie in the front gives this casual top just enough structure and I love the effect.
  Finishing Pieces
UGG Elvia Waterproof Tall Boot
$249.95, $164.90
These waterproof boots look like such work horses – perfect in the snow and slush but also super cute with skinny jeans or black Zellas – all while being ridiculously comfortable – what can’t they do?
Converse Jack Purcell Signature Ox Low Top
$69.95, Now $45.90
I am so smitten with the color of these iconic shoes. Not white but Platinum. They’ll give your outfit the polished look of a white shoe but be a lot easier to keep clean. Sold!
  Nike Juvenate SE Sneaker
$95, Now $70
Speaking of iconic shoes, snagging a discounted Nike in basic black, which I can wear with everything while running around all day, is kinda a must for me. The softness of this one is what sold me.
  TOMS Deia Block Heel Bootie
$97.95, Now $64.90
Last year I bought a similar pair of gray Toms boots during the sale and I could not believe how comfortable they turned out to be. Having chronic back problems means I only do heels rarely.
I bought my Toms boots with the idea of wearing them to date nights when I intended to be sitting most of the time. Much to my delight, I found they are comfortable enough to walk around in for extended periods of time- whoo hoo!
Sperry Saltwater Spray Wedge Waterproof Rain Boot
$129.95, Now $84.90
For the days when the Ugg boots are overkill, a good pair of Sperry boots are my go tos. I got mine last year during the sale and wore them almost every day during the winter. So00 cute and easy to wear, love ’em!
Halogen® Asymmetrical Zip Boiled Wool Blend Coat
$199, Now $129.90
Last but not least, the most exciting coat I’ve seen in years. Finally, something that I can wear during the day or out at night that’s more than a pea coat! I just love the cut of this coat as well as the colors it comes in – both the grey dove and the black are gorgeous.
Note: A shorter thermal jacket from the North Face like this is great for running around too. I got mine two sales ago and still wear it constantly.
So that’s it!! Whew, what a list! I hope you find something (or many somethings) to love here and that you’re able to act in time to get a great deal!

As soon as March rolls around, my brain automatically goes into cleaning mode. Don’t get me wrong, I keep my area clean all year around, but there is just something about spring that gives me the urge to just throw out my entire room and buy new stuff.  With all the recent room renovations going on, spring cleaning has never gotten easier. I’ve learned a couple of things to help me stay organized and get rid of any unnecessary items that I may have collecting dust.
The Six Month Rule:
One of the most difficult tasks of spring cleaning is closet organization. I have such an attachment to my clothes that even if I never wore it, I still want it in my closet in hopes that it may come in handy one day. However, if I kept doing that, my closet would just be filled with unnecessary articles of clothing that will never be of use.
To get rid of unwanted clothing, I use the ” six-month rule “. Basically, I look through my closet and pick out items that have not been worn in the last six months. I then sort through them and pick apart the items that are brand new and those that have been worn. Now, chances are that if the item has been worn over 6 months ago, it was worn once or twice at the most. I either give the items to friends and family or donate them. Sometimes I do sell them on apps like Depop or offer up, but those are only for brand new items.
Out With The Old, In With The New:
After cleaning out your closet, you probably are shocked at how much more room you have in your closet and how empty it feels, trust me I felt the same way. During this time, a lot of fashion retailers like forever 21 and H&M will have new releases for their springtime as well as crazy blowout sales. My advice: go crazy. Okay… don’t go too crazy. Buy staple items that will look good with multiple different outfits like a jean jacket or a comfy oversized cardigan. Do not purchase an item that looks cute but is either too big or too small- only buy what will fit perfectly. Find your style- don’t buy something with the intention of maybe wearing it.
Storage Can Be Cute:
Having a lot of stuffed into one area is not the way to go. I found it extremely difficult to store my makeup in a way that was efficient yet still looked presentable. Storing my brushes was a challenge. My aunt had given me this plastic brush holder which I did store my brushes in and some smaller palettes, but since it was made of plastic, it had gotten extremely dirty and was difficult to clean. While furniture shopping for my new room ( post is coming soon), I saw this super cute plant holder. Yes, I know it is for plants, but it looks super cute and it is not as big as the plastic brush holder so I have more space on my vanity.
Before – pardon my dirty brushes, I took this before cleaning them.
After: pardon my dirty brushes, this picture was taken right before I had washed them. – also a little sneak peak of my room.
Make The Most Out of Your space:
A diverse room looks much more open and bigger even if the room itself is not the largest. For someone who has a small room, having a lot of items in one area will make the room look smaller and cluttered. Keeping fewer items in a small area will make it look much neater and bigger. However, If there is no possible way to do so, distributing the items into opposite sides or the room will make it much neater.
Yay, it’s almost April, my birth month and it will be a whole year for my blog in a couple of weeks. Crazy how time flies. I will be uploading more often now since my room is almost done and school is pretty easy right now. I will try to upload at least three times a week but if not, at least once a week. I will be traveling during this month so I hope I get some cool stuff to share with you guys when I return from my adventure.
Spring Cleaning Guide As soon as March rolls around, my brain automatically goes into cleaning mode. Don't get me wrong, I keep my area clean all year around, but there is just something about spring that gives me the urge to just throw out my entire room and buy new stuff.

Sleeklens Workflow Review
Sleeklens Workflow Review
Sleeklens.com is a Danish based company that make and sell workflow bundles containing presets and brushes for Lightroom, as well as similar packages for Photoshop. These sets are designed "to enhance the beauty of your photos in just a few clicks. They make your photo editing effective, efficient and easy while helping you stay organized."
They reached out to me recently and asked me to review their landscape photography workflow set called Through The Woods (TtW). The set, which costs 39$ (€36.45), contains "...51 Lightroom landscape presets and 30 brushes for turning your landscapes into mystic scenes, the perfect companion for naturally illuminated environments."
DISCLAIMER
Sleeklens.com have given me a workflow set free of charge in exchange for a honest review here, and linking to their Lightoom and Landscape presets, and their photo editing services (which I have now done). I have no invested interest in the company or products, I'm not part of any affiliate scheme nor am I getting paid for this. This is purely my opinion of the product based on how it fits with my style and post-processing habits.
Preconceptions / Foreword
I am actually writing this section BEFORE I have received and tested the TtW presets and brushes yet, as I want to put down my preconceived opinion of this type of thing, and see if it changes when I test them. They will be sending me presets and brushes, which are different things. Generally I think presets and brushes are semi-useful. They can make a photo look great or horrible depending on the starting image. I do have presets and brushes and do use them frequently, but these are ones I have made myself entirely or butchered versions of free ones I got from somewhere at some-point. I don't use them as an all-in-one editing tool, but as a starting point. In particular I use a few presets for Black and White, and I have a brushes saved for processing eyes and fur on animals. So I am not too sure how I am going to find theirs and how I will use them. So my starting point of view is this: Using other peoples presets and brushes are like wearing another persons clothes... You might get lucky and they might fit you perfectly, but more than likely you will have to spend more time tailoring them to you to make them worth while. Lets see if I think this set is worth using, and more importantly paying for.
The REVIEW
I received the Through The Woods (TtW) landscape photography workflow set (51 Presets and 30 Brushes). It came with simple installation instructions (copy paste into the right Lightroom folders), which I did quickly and successfully. So, we're off to a good start.
When I take a picture, I usually have a clear idea of what I want the final image to look like. This is particularly true for landscape photography. So I have chosen an image and processed it myself (which I will show at the end), as I wanted it using only my own tools. I will then go through the same process with the TtW set and see how it turns out.
I. Presets
From my perspective, there are 2 types of presets in the set. All-in-one presets and their layering presets. The all-in-one, are just that, one click and you are supposed to be done (or close to it). I did not particularly like any of these, none were my style or taste, so i'm not going to go into this anymore.
Now, the layering presets are more interesting, providing a workflow of different simple changes to your image. They are subdivided into 6 steps, which reflects a good processing route, starting at 1 and working your way through the list.
Base - a watered down all-in-one that sets the base for your image
Exposure - Change the exposure/shadows/highlights of the image
Colour - Increase and reduce different colours in the image
Tone - Saturation and temperature of the image
Polish - Clarity, contrast and sharpening
Vignette - er...  different types of vignettes! :)
Generally speaking this is the order of adjustments I make to my images too. When starting out, it is easy to get lost in the huge array of settings available to you in Lightroom, this dramatically simplifies it. Each of these types of presets have intuitive naming like "Cool It Down", "Add clarity" or "Brighten" which makes it simple to navigate.
Pros:
Nice workflow system that I have never seen before allows for quick, easy and intuitive manipulation. NOT just an All-in-one preset.
Each of the editing presets are easy to understand and work through.
Can provide high-throughput processing.
Provides a great tool for learning the finer points of Lightroom, if you like the result of a preset, see what changed for it to have that effect.
The presets make a good base for you to tweak to preference. You can then saves your tweaked preset for the next use.
Cons:
Lightroom does not work on a layering system, which means this workflow system is not perfect. (I'm sure it works a lot better in Photoshop however).
I did not, personally, like any of the base presets that much. It did not suit my style of images.
More advanced Lightroom users might not find it easier and quicker than just doing it from scratch themselves.
Like for ALL presets, what works for one image might not work for another, so bulk high-throughput editing is not always an advantage. Moreover...
... who needs to bulk edit landscape/nature images? We generally just pick one to edit?
Easy to over-process.
So using thing this system I processed the image... Presets used are in the description, and no other adjustments were made. Final image using presets alone is at the end.
Now I will move onto the brushes...
 II. Brushes
I use brushes routinely, especially for landscapes and have made several brushes for myself over the time. I was happy to see brushes that in the TtW set that also addressed the same or similar things in my own brushes. Ansel Adams used chemistry (temperature to control the rate of reaction, aka dodge and burn) to make local adjustments to the exposure during the printing process of his images. We can adjust almost everything in a similar way with brushes in Lightroom. The TtW set contains 30 brushes in 5 different categories.
Basics (Contrast and clarity)
Colour (tints, temperatures and saturation)
Effects (Cloudy sky's and water enhancements)
Haze (coloured and neutral hazes)
Light (brighten, darken, shadows and sunset lighting)
The brushes work for all the local adjusment tools; Graduated filter, Radial filter and the Adjustment Brush.
Pros :
Names of brushes clearly tell you what they do
Gave me creative ideas that I might not have thought of ("Hmmmm, a little haze might be nice...")
Showed me alternative manipulations that yielded good results
Cons :
Overwhelmed by the number of brushes, will take time to learn and you might loose your most common ones among the rest (This could be fixed if, like for the presets, you could create folders of brushes).
Easy to over-process
You might not like them all???  struggling for cons here to be honest, I liked the brushes. :)
I used a selection of these brushes on the image I produced using the presets. See the gallery under this. Brushes used are in the description. I reduced the density of the brushes as I found them to be a little too strong for my taste, but that is the only thing I changed.
 The Final comparison
Here is the starting image, my processed one and the one I processed using TtW workflow. Which do you prefer? Let me know in the comments.
Well, it works...
I used the presets and brushes only to process an image to a level I found satisfactory. I would again spend more time refining it further.
Overall
I got a very similar image with the presets as I did without, even though I processed them on separate days. I can see how it would make it easier and quicker for someone who is not familiar with Lightroom to get better images quicker, but for me, despite playing around and getting familiar with the presets and brushes before doing this processing, doing everything in Lightroom alone was quicker for me.
Whilst playing around with this I actually picked up a few tricks that I don't use, so thank you Sleeklens for that. The presets did not do anything for me, but I liked their workflow system. As a learning tool, I think it is great as it goes through a good sequence of edits. If there is a particular style you like, provides a great base to further refine. I see the presets as a stepping-stone to using Lightroom to it's fullest and developing your own style.
On the other hand, I liked the brushes a lot. It contained many similar brushes that I already use, and gave me a few new ones I will keep in my 'use regularly' list (water enhancement in particular). Like all of my brushes, it probably won't be the final adjustments, but a great starting point, and will need tweaking for every situation.
I am a fan of less is more, and don't like images that have been obviously processed a lot. An unfortunate side affect of presets is the ease to go over-board. This is a personal taste thing, but I found myself wanting to dial everything down, and in the end my love of control just made me want to do it myself.
So, would I buy it?
No, I wouldn't. It is only 39$, which is a reasonable price, but it does not offer any additional speed or image improvements above what I can do already. But I am an experienced Lightroom user and process a lot of images regularly. For landscape photography, each image is so unique, you don`'t bulk process them anyway. Since I got it for free, I am going to keep a couple of the brushes (with some of my own adjustments) and can see me using them, so thank you sleeklens, but I would not it for myself.
But would I recommend it?
This really depends on the individual....
YES
If you are new(ish) to Lightroom and do not have the time or patience to get to grips with the plethora of micro-adjustments you can make to an image, then yes, I think it mist be worth getting. It is a capable set of tools that simplifies the Lightroom system. I feel it's greatest asset is as a learning tool, which will guide you through a good workflow, and it is only when you truly understand what you are doing in post-processing you will unleash the full potential of you image and have complete creative control.
No
If, like me, you have been using Lightroom for a long time, it does not really give you much benefit. This is particularly true for landscape, as each shot is so unique, i would never batch process them anyway, and it is not usually required to process quickly. However, If you have a spare 39$ and you want to play around with them, do it...  you`'ll probably learn a thing or two and can use them to make you own more personalized presets/brushes.
The Bottom line
The point of post-processing is to take full creative control over your image. The use of presets does not really align with this. Lightroom has a very full, and complex, set of controls to do this and the use of presets is somewhat contradictory...  why buy a sophisticated tool just to dumb it down? My answer is, to learn...  when you are first faced with all the options in Lightroom, it is daunting, and easy to screw things up. Using the presets and brushes to produce something you like gives the ability to reverse engineer it...  see what each brush and preset does, tweak it, and move on. If used in this manner, it will improve your knowledge of Lightroom, and your post-processing skills to a point where the presets themselves no longer save time as you can just do it yourself, producing the images exactly how you want it.
Can provide great images with little to no tweaking
Will be most useful for the novices
It is a great way to learn the capabilities of Lightroom
Should be used as a stepping stone to get the most out of Lightroom in the future
Little added value to experienced Lightroom users
Have you ever bought or used presets? What do you think about them?
