you didn’t get to sleep a lot at night. maybe it’s the anxiety you’re feeling, knowing that today you were going to meet almost everyone you were going to see very often from now on. it’s not a big deal for you, the only big deal is that in “everyone”, skeet ulrich is included.

you fear you’re gonna get nervous and say something weird, act weird making him dislike you. if that was anyone else, it would be okay. but imagine skeet ulrich disliking you? that’s what you think for almost 5 minutes after getting up from bed, while looking at yourself in the mirror.

you figure out you have to convince yourself that he’s a normal person just like you, and that there’s nothing to be scared about.

Random Update

The Jonas Brothers American leg of their tour is over. On our way home from DC I told my sister it looks like we have to get passports so we can see them in Europe. She’s terrified of flying that far so that’s the only thing keeping us from going. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

We are going to meet Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich at SteelCity Con on Saturday so thats pretty exciting!

Kenny has been off all week and just has the floor and the painting of the ceiling to be done with the addition and we will be able to move the living room out there! He will still have to do the trim after Christmas but it’s so close to being done and I cannot wait!

hi! so this might be really out of the box and i am kinda unsure about the unwritten rules of the whump community... but how do we feel about actors getting hurt on set and the scene being used in the movie? we all know about the broken toe of viggo mortensen in lotr, but i just found a similar little fun fact and I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO STOP THINKING ABOUT IT. So, lately, i have been really obsessed with scream, and skeet ulrich. (I assume you saw the movie since you saw the 2022 requel, but if not then SPOILERS) So, you know how there is this scene where Sid breaks out of this closet and stabs billy in the chest with the umbrella. well, the stuntwoman messed up on the second stab. apperently, skeet ulrich had open-heart surgery when he was a kid and still has a stainless steel wire in his chest, and if you touch it puts poor guy into excruciating pain. They put protective pads to where he was supposed to be hit, but on the second stab the umbrella or the pad slipped and he got stabbed right there, which obviously led to him screaming out in pain and collapsing. AND THATS THE SCENE THEY USED IN THE MOVIE and i know its weird but i just cant get over it, i just keep going back to it cause ouch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVMLqnFqRh0 if yyou are interested, i think it is around 1:45 I think)

I don't think there's any unwritten rule against actors that I know of. I know there are people in the community who dislike it when they learn that an in show injury is actually real and happened to the actor. Personally I'm pretty indifferent about it I guess? I don't get whumperflies with it or anything but I am fascinated when I learn that an actor got injured on set and that scene is real. So long as the injury isn't serious I'm cool with viewing it positively like you do. If the injury is bad and/or dangerous I tend to feel more sad/worried and it turns off all and any potential whumperflies that I could feel. But things like the Viggo LOTR story or learning that Colin O'Donoghue actually broke his ankle filming Revenge is Gonna Be Mine in the musical episode of Once Upon a Time, I do find those interesting in an I guess whump interest sort of way. I didn't know that about skeet though!! Damn I'm never gonna watch that scene the same way again lol. Poor dude but damn that scene is accurate as fuck then?! Crazy!

Anyway, that's my very scattered and rambly way of saying I think it's fine if you are interested in those sort of behind the scenes stories. We all like what we like and it's not like your actively wishing for actors to be hurt or going out an hurting anyone one. I'm certainly fascinated by those stories too.

It's funny how people often seem to depict Billy as being like a foot shorter than Stu (which don't get me wrong, I think is nice), when in reality Skeet Ulrich is 6'0 and Matthew Lillard is 6'4.

But to be fair, I'm 6'0 as well and I find even the two inch height difference between me and my older brother pretty noticeable (he's 6'2) so maybe they're onto something.

WHOOPS I started this blog and disappeared 👻 My bad! Work has been kicking my ass, and then I got sick 🙃 But!! I’m better now and here with a few recent horrors I’ve watched, and a few of my thoughts.

1. Five Nights at Freddy’s - 4.5 ⭐️

I went and saw this in theaters the day it came out. In fact I got off work early just to do so LOL. I really liked it overall, it was fun and goofy. The story we got of Mike Schmidt’s life was pretty interesting, and I liked that it combined quite a few elements from several of the games. My only critique was that it wasn’t as scary as I had hoped, but also I do realize that a majority of FNAF lovers are probably children so it had to be a bit tamer for them. Also Matthew Lillard? Delectable.

2. SCREAM - 5⭐️

A classic. One of my top favorite horrors. It has everything I want: blood, violence, clumsy killers, silly characters, and of course, Matthew Lillard. It has an insane amount of quotable moments, and it’s entertaining all around. Also, is it me, or is it insanely homoerotic sometimes? That, of course, rounds it to a full 5 stars.

3. The Craft - 4.25⭐️

I had never seen this one, surprisingly. I know I would have loved it as a teenager. The fashion in this movie is iconic. It’s not really horror by my standards, but it does have a few ~spooky~ moments. Mostly, it’s a coming of age movie for weird girls. It had Skeet Ulrich in it, which I had only ever seen in SCREAM, so I was like, holy shit it’s Billy Loomis. He has a way with playing terrible, horny high school boys, I guess.

4. The Boy - 4.25⭐️

Even if I gave this a 4.25 I LOVED this one. The twist was something that I caught on to, but was still so satisfying. I only docked it a bit because of the ending. It just…did not give me what I wanted from this film, but that may just be personal preference. *Vague but possible spoilers* I mayyy blame this movie for my rediscovery that I really, really like masked slashers. If I was Greta I might have stayed in the house. Idk. 👀

5. Brahms: The Boy 2 - 4⭐️

This is the sequel to The Boy, and it was definitely a good one! However because of a couple characters and sort of changing up the origins of The Boy, it didn’t quite make it to GREAT. Worth a watch, for sure though. Some of the reviews were pretty harsh for this one but I certainly didn’t think it was bad. If dolls creep you out though, steer clear 😂

ANYWAY, those are my thoughts! I kind of fell out of reading this last month, but I’ve got several horrors lined up so hopefully I can get a few more books finished by the end of the year. I’ll probably also post these movie quips every once and a while and just share a few I’ve been recently watching.

did you hear lysander finch (robert scott wilson), our resident siphoner, is looking for their brother(s)? they’re a ~25-34 year old witch who arrived in the chateau within the last few days/weeks. they look like utp / as long as they resemble robert. the player does require you to contact them prior to filling this out. - i have a pretty extensive history for lysander but he's from a powerful witch family and is the oldest child who was supposed to be the next supreme. instead, he showed no magical gifts and was neglected by his parents who focused on his multiple siblings who were witches. they later learned lysander is a siphoner and thought it was disgraceful so he was locked away and forced to teach himself. he'd eventually be framed for murdering their mom & forced to flee. his dad has made his siblings believe lysander is guilty and tried to track him down to no success. maybe your character has recently found him but believes lysander? idk. - @newsalvations

Scream 6 re-watch thoughts (SPOILER alert!)

-there are so many details & references in this movie! I feel like I’ll catch more every time I re-watch

-quinn’s fake death is hilarious on re-watch. I love the kirsch siblings they’re so fucking funny. she didn’t have to fake be on the phone worried about the killings while ethan loomed behind her ominously for danny to see. iconic. theatre kid vibes. I bet richie sometimes let them be in his movies & they loved it & got all cutely excited

-on that note we were robbed of more quinn & ethan interactions 😭 I’m not sure what I would do to change this because obviously the mystery has to be kept alive but I love them & I wish I could see more of them being siblings

-the script is actually SO smart. every bit of dialogue between the heroes & villains before Ghostface is revealed is so well done with the consistent theme of “you fuck with my family, you die” except you don’t KNOW til the end how important some of those dialogue moments were. Idk just brilliant

-the parallels with this being a story about siblings killing for their sibling & the way the lines between Sam & Ghostface are blurring! ooh it’s so well done

-I love the carpenter sisters & the meeks martin twins i don’t care how corny the whole “core four” “we’re a family” thing is. inject it into my blood I love found family I love siblings who have a fun or complicated dynamic & would do anything for each other. the core four’s dynamic is my life actually

-I’ve seen a few people who didn’t like the final battle but this was possibly the best final battle of the entire franchise to me so far & I’m extremely confused by this bizarre take. like. I’ve seen it said a few times now but I don’t get it. Ethan & Wayne’s deaths were iconic. the whole “you have to let me go” thing. the reveals. the way I fucking CALLED it the first time I watched oh I KNEW it as soon as Quinn mentioned a dead brother! the synchronized knife swipe!!!

-“more main cast members should’ve died!!” I get this. I do. it’s a tough one. but. Ummm consider this. it’s secretly a feel good found family movie??? and also I don’t want my characters who I love to die 🥺 thanks for considering! the movie was perfect argument over forever

-my biggest critique is that my girl quinn had such a fucking lame death they could’ve had Sam & Tara team up on her, they could’ve done anything! sorry to Wayne & Ethan girlies but she was the most fun & charismatic Ghostface of the movie & her death was wasted. that’s literally my only issue with the entire movie.

-and I guess they could’ve done more with nyc & also I’m sad there was no beheadings except a mannequin but like… oh well. those things I can move past pretty easily. the did do a lot with nyc. the alley scene, the subway scene, the convenience store scene, & the ladder scene between apartments were all amazing. gale’s battle with Ghostface was a bit lame but I’m not sure what I would change since I don’t like. want Gale to die lol (maybe a little tiny bit I did but it’s complicated)

-Kirby’s role was perfect I love her & Hayden’s facial expressions are almost as good as David arquette’s

-anywho Sam wearing her daddy’s mask & using her daddy’s weapon & being a boss ass bitch was great. the gray tank top is my actual favorite character ❤️❤️❤️

I hated s1 of loki, I watched the first 2 ep and then I didn't watch anymore episodes for like half a year and when i finally got back to it i struggled to watch it cause I found it soooooo boring, but I really liked s2 cause I found it a lot more interesting and exciting than s1. I loved the last ep but I also found it very sad especially when loki was just all alone in the end, but I liked that he finally became a good guy.

Season 2 was just so much better right? Oh, I have nothing against Tom playing Loki, I'm sure he did exactly what Disney asked of him, you know? My problem was with the way they wrote Loki, that's all. But thinking about Dream Cast (I'm terrible at it because I don't know anyone), I can see Skeet Ulrich playing Loki (I'm such a scream fan I hate myself), for older Lokis, it could be Mads Mikkelsen or Rufus Sewell. And, you know, If Marvel cared about representation in 2011, maybe Shawn Wayans, Boris Kodjoe, Orlando Jones, Diego Luna...

Loki is present in Assasins's Creed Valhalla and will probably be present in the next as well. He's super fun, but I can't say much without giving spoilers for the game.

Ubisoft also did a way better job with his powers! It could be a gaming vantage, but still, Loki's biological family, the Jotuns are way more powerful and terrifying in the game. I have no idea why Marvel couldn't work with Loki's shapeshifting in a proper way, he can do so much more than just imitate the human form. And even though the whole "weak god" scene with Hulk is fun, it makes no sense for a frost giant to get beat up like that. Besides being the god of lies, Loki is the Silvertongue, he can tell truths people don’t wish to hear or admit to themselves, pretty much like Lucifer; I don't know why Marvel related that to the mind stone and his scepter.

Scream (1996)

Scream was, and still is, a game-changer for the horror genre. Part black comedy, part satire, part unapologetic slasher film, it’s smartly written, memorable and suspenseful. Written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Wes Kraven, it deconstructs the clichés of the slasher genre and then rebuilds them better than ever.

Woodsboro, California has become a playground for a mysterious serial killer in a Halloween costume. When “Ghostface” (voiced by Roger L. Jackson) begins calling high-school student Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), she wonders if the killings are linked to the murder of her mother, one year ago. Or is it simply a coincidence?

The film wastes no time indulging in the clichés of the slasher genre. The opening scene (featuring a memorable cameo by Drew Barrymore) is basically a summary of every Friday the 13th and Halloween sequel, complete with an isolated teenager targeted by a maniac whose face remains hidden, abundant bloodshed, a murderer that seems to be everywhere at once and an edged weapon. This shows that Kevin Williamson knows what he’s about to tear down. Scream is a movie about people who have seen horror movies. There are direct references to both mainstream classics like A Nightmare on Elm Street and the more obscure horror pictures (that should be classics) like The Howling. The characters are a lot smarter than you’re used to seeing because they've seen the same movies you have. The killer is far less indestructible than you’re accustomed to.

Scream has a very unusual quality. One second you’ll be laughing, the next you’ll be horrified. When Ghostface attacks someone, they get pelted with whatever objects are nearby, they get knocked over, tripped, etc. It makes you laugh but don’t get too carried away. They’ve got murder on their mind and the body count in this film is high. It’s like all these setbacks are making the killer angrier and more determined; like they expected to be untouchable so when they finally tear into their victim’s flesh, the deaths are brutal. Director Wes Craven (no stranger to many of the films referenced in the script) manages to have his cake and eat it too.

Aficionados of the genre will have a great time catching all the references, recognizing the tropes and seeing the formula they’ve seen before and fallen in love with play out like this. What elevates the film - and makes it a dark delight for those who might only have a passing interest in the horror genre - is the mystery. You don’t know who is under that mask. When you think you might have it figured out, you’ll notice something off about the way Sidney’s boyfriend, Billy (Skeet Ulrich) enters the room, or wonder if her friend Randy (Jamie Kennedy) might be obsessed enough with horror movies to go on a murder spree. There’s Matthew Lillard’s Stu, who shows a weird enthusiasm about everything that’s going on that also points to him as a suspect and if he’s in on it, I guess his girlfriend, Tatum (Rose McGowan) might as well be placed on the list. The same goes for police officer Dewey Riley (David Arquette). Could all the teasing have made him snap? The boots we saw the killer don in that one scene are eerily similar to the one he wears… unless they’re just standard police issue, which could point toward Sheriff Burke (Joseph Whipp) as the killer. Hints point toward pretty much everyone, maybe even reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). That last one is significant. This movie offers much more than just the murders and mystery. You get the sense that even if bodies weren’t falling left and right, there would be a lot going on with the relationships, the anniversary of Sidney’s mother’s death coming up, her murderer being falsely accused according to Gale and more.

A lot of care and attention has been put into Scream. The deaths are memorable and so are the characters. The gore will make you turn away, but there are many laughs and clever bits of dialogue. Between all of these - and the icon the film created upon arrival - it’s easy to overlook the performances, which would be a mistake. Neve Campbell as Sidney is terrific. Everyone is. Whether you’re watching it for the first time and trying to figure out who Ghostface is, or you’ve seen it before and you’re watching to see how all of the little pieces of the mystery pay off, Scream is a great film - and not just for horror hounds either. (On Blu-ray, January 16, 2022)

Why I started watching it: was going to say bc of bestie @perestr0ika but we didn't even know each other yet! crazy! so just when isak and even were all over tumblr ig, and I did do the thing of watching their season first and then going back.

Why I started watching it: I was there from the jump actually, watched the pilot the week it came out, I think just bc it was getting lots of hype. it was ironic for a bit but I was genuinely enjoying it pretty early on

here are more of my eddie headcanons besties where a few may completely disregard what is canon bc i said so :))

- when he watched scream for the first time, he had difficulty focusing on the plot & the important details bc “holy shit skeet ulrich is so fucking hot holy shit ah fuckfuckfuck”

- his comfort movie is the princess bride, & he can almost quote it word for word

- he plays the guitar by ear. he listens to a song, messes with different chords & strumming patterns, until he has it down

- alternatively, the boy does not have perfect pitch but he wishes he did

- his favorite horror movies are the shining, poltergeist, & the nightmare on elm street

- he is an absolute BEAST on the drums!!!! whenever he needs to get deep rooted stress & or anxiety out, he plays the entirety of black sabbath’s album, paranoid

- fuRTHERMORE: as drumming is essentially a full body workout (especially heavy metal/heavy rock), he’s usually rid himself of his shirt after 2 or 3 songs. which also means he’s all sweaty & his bangs are sticking to his forehead & the way his tongue pokes out of his mouth bc he’s so focused & he just looks so pretty & in his element

- bc of his drumming style, he spends more money than he should on drumsticks due to reducing them to splinters every couple weeks

SCREAM VI (2023)

Just a couple of years ago, the Scream franchise was pretty much dead in the water. The most recent film in the series, Scream IV, had been something of a disappointment when it was released in 2011. And even that film was a bit of a reboot of the series, coming 11 years after the original trilogy ended. (The first three films were released from 1996 to 2000.)

Now, suddenly, with the release of the second Scream movie in just about a year, apparently they are all in with the series again. It’s up to debate as to whether the series was that in need of another reboot after all this time (let’s face it, only the original 1996 film was truly special), but Scream VI does what it can to make the old formula palatable for a new generation.

In the horror franchise parlance, this film would be the Ghostface Takes Manhattan chapter of the saga, where the kids from the small town move to the big city, only to find the violence they are trying to leave behind has relocated as well. (Although the story is supposed to take place in New York City, Scream VI was actually filmed in Montreal, a difference which is somewhat noticeable throughout.)

As with most of the previous films, Scream VI is a mix of old and new characters. Although the production made the gossip columns last year when original Scream star Neve Campbell refused to appear in the new film (apparently, she was not offered enough money to make it worth her while), there are a few character returns from the older films to mix in with the new blood… so to speak.

Courteney Cox – who is the only actor who has actually been in all six of the Scream films – returns in the role of Gale Weathers. Hayden Panettiere also returns in the role of Scream IV survivor Kirby Reid, who is now an FBI agent on the trail of the latest Ghostface killers. Also Skeet Ulrich has a few short cameos as the spirit of original killer Billy Loomis.

However, the characters from the past are not really what Scream VI is selling, it actually works pretty well because the two new lead characters are so interesting and well played. (I say new, but they both appeared in the fifth Scream chapter last year, as well.) Melissa Barrera (In the Heights) and Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) carry the film with confidence and charm as two sisters who survived last year’s slayings and moved to New York to escape (and for the younger sister to go to college), only to find that the evil has followed them.

Both are terrific – particularly Barrera – and they make Scream VI one of the more intense and intriguing chapters of the saga. (Well, at least until the sort of stupid and unlikely reveal of the identities of the latest Ghostface killers, but that isn’t their fault.)

Scream VI is more violent than many of the previous films. (In the series’ normal postmodern snarkiness, it is pointed out that later films in a franchise always do everything bigger.) It’s actually also one of the funnier episodes, and suspenseful, too. (At least until that silly climax.)

It has all of the normal Scream problems. The whole idea that the kids try to evade the killer due to horror film rules rather than real life rules still seems a bit too smug and post-modern. And the Ghostface killer is actually kind of a ridiculous bogeyman (although there have been multiple Ghostfaces over the run of the franchise). He (or she, or they, or it… I’m not telling…) is clumsy, easily knocked off balance and fairly regularly defeated. And yes, I get that is sort of the point, these are just a bunch of normal insane people playing copycat, but it makes the character a bit clownish as well as scary. Which, again, is probably part of the point.

But, okay, Scream VI, you’ve got me. As long as you keep following Barrera and Ortega around, I’m in for another chapter or two.
