Remembering the toxic hellscape that was 2015-2019ish SU fandom and just how much hate the show got is really insane when you rewatch the show after it's been a while. Like the show is good what the hell were any of these people talking about

Context for those not on twitter:

I wasn't really there when the Jollybag drama happened, I've only seen the aftermath. And from what I've generally got, what Jolly did was a result of a misunderstanding/ignorance, and not premeditated malicious intent (allegedly, he exchanged nsfw art with a 14/15 y.o). I've seen him thoroughly apologize (not like, apologize just to brush it off) but sincerely, humbly admit that what he did was wrong and that he will look to do better in the future.

Me interacting with Jollybag =/= saying that Jollybag did nothing wrong. I don't support his wrongdoings, I support his journey to betterment. He reminded me of my irl friend, who did a similar stupid thing when he was 20-ish, not out of malice but out of ignorance; received huge backlash over it and was left ostracized and struggling with serious self esteem issues for like, the next 8 years (and still dealing with it).

I don't believe in this brand of punitive justice, where we label a person bad once, and then expect them to just disappear from the society. If the person shows capacity to understand where their behavior came from, where it went wrong, and to take responsibility for their choices past and onward, we gotta let them have that opportunity to grow.

If Jollybag repeats this pattern again, then I will have to consider not supporting him anymore. But it's been 2 years, and it's fine? So what's the big, drama seekers. I like his sprite art. He created some medieval madcom sprites around the same time I was developing my own medieval au, so we exchanged a few messages about that. Boring, I know.

One more thing though.

I've seen this person defending Jollybag before too. I haven't asked either Jollybag or this person if what this tweet saying is true, but if it is - you can kinda see how this whole "community safety" campaign doesn't really care neither for the voices of people it's trying to demonize, nor for the voices of people it's claiming to protect. That's the alleged victim speaking there, their voice should be prioritized. This tweet is a reply to the callout post, so op has surely seen it. But it stays ignored
