want to get nerdy really fast about all the cool little concepts and ideas that went into hallowed bodies because I fell into the trap of Hating It Until It Was Over & nowwww I remember that I specifically chose to write 90% of it in vignettes to capture a feeling of stunted listlessness in the narrative, that I literallyyyyy kept a character unnamed as a way to thematically emphasize the omnipresent anonymity of men in Lonan’s life (his father, god, Harrison), that I leapt off the ending of BODY BACK that ends in a church (HB starts in a church), that both first chapters in BB and HB have the protagonist yearning for someone to lead VS someone to follow, that similarly, both books delve into the same premise but with vastly different circumstances, that the ending was designed to also be a foil of the end of BB (Harrison walks INTO a church, Lonan walks OUT) & yeahhhh it’s pretty cool lol

i am just so earnestly curious. i read the books a long time ago, i am struggling to put myself in the shoes of someone who doesn't know what's coming. the latest promo that has the sinister projection of L: does this come across as menacing to people who are book-innocent? do those audience members have anxiety about him showing up in paris?

i know he was fucking excoriated by a lot of viewers for season 1 and ep 5 especially (no matter one's experience with the canon), and a lot of people now despise the character.

but does like. anyone actually have concern abt the guy showing up and making trouble? it seems to be the reaction they want people to have, I'm curious if it's working?

I've written nothing this month but I did get some motivation for a weekend project :3

book number 8 of the year = done! very very pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed the handmaid's tale! and by how much i loved margaret atwood's writing style omg, it was so good!!

#i immediately ordered the sequel bc i didnt even know there was another book and i gotta read the next one asap fjsksks #the way this one ended!!!!! AHHH #makes me wild #i read this book in 2 days it was that good #(also super short but. still VERY good) #i always thought it would be one of those like 'high school required reading' type books #which is why i never read it and never WANTED to read it #but i was pleasantly surprised to find that its actually GOOD like it was not boring like so many of the other hs required reading books are #mack reads #her style of writing reminds me of my own writing at times honestly. #like shes got a very staccattoed way of writing and she likes to play around with sentence structure #which are both things I like to do in my writing #so it was just cool to see that i felt very validated lol

Medieval/fantasy au be upon ye: the gang reconvenes and discusses their next steps

Oh god, so this one requires me to get into what the hell this au is about and uhhhh I don’t… know?? Yet???

I’ve got some broad sweeps down but the details are for the most part hazy rn

(That got long fast whoopsie!!)

SO:

- The Pennykettles are the royal family, Lucy is the heir. David is not strictly related to Liz or Lucy, but he was raised in proximity to the crown and later made the equivalent to a prince in title (basically, he’s not really royalty, he can’t take the crown, and he doesn’t do anything important, but he is the court’s funny little guy and you will apologise to him rn for hurting his feelings!! He acts as a figurehead in the Pennykettles’ place for some festivals, and is generally well liked by the public despite being dumb as rocks.)

- More on David: he was raised by the monks of Avalon (pushing my Arthur & Bernard agenda on this fine evening), one of which Liz eventually married (take a wild guess).

- The royal line carries down the women, Arthur is basically arm candy. He and Liz are very queer-platonic to me. Their role is to act as ‘ambassadors’ between dragons and humankind. It’s mostly symbolic at this point, as dragons are very respected and mostly left to their own devices. Their perches are treated as holy places where offerings are left, and they don’t bother themselves with humans as long as things continue to roll smoothly.

- (To be clear, Arthur is not Lucy’s father. I may well go with canon’s egg shit because it works maddeningly well here. It is also important to me that you know Arthur is still blind. I will hold this man in my disabled arms mwah you are safe here)

- THE PENNYKETTLE DRAGONS? They’re still here baybey, but REAL ALL OF THE TIME. They’re a small species of living dragons – I haven’t worked out the exact origin story here yet, whether Liz still breathed life into them from something non-living, or if they’re just juveniles that will eventually become as big as Gawaine. We shall see, I suppose. I imagine that they act like very needy cats that attach themselves to their human and follow them about. God I wish I had a little dragon guy.

- The royal library is run by Henry Bacon (HE LIVES. FUCK YOU.) and his apprentice, Zanna Martindale. David also used to apprentice here before being adopted by the crown. It took Zanna a while to get over the boy she used to throw books at and make daisy chains for becoming effectively a prince. They are in love <3 (no Alexa yet, sorry (unless…. Hm, I will get back to you on this…) bc I see David and Zanna being Firestar ages, and Lucy being older than usual at around 16/17)

- Zanna has a vaguely middle-class upbringing (as far as the concept exists), with a doctor/dentist father and an older sister.  (Ngl. Forgot zanna had a real dentist dad and just made henry her father originally. And now to fix it I’m considering marrying them. It would be funny literally only to me. But it Would be funny. Local doctor and librarian have a weird unacknowledged little gay thing going on. Good for them <3)

- I don’t know how but Melanie Cartwright is in there somewhere and she and Lucy are dating. I am right. You will understand the kettlewright agenda by the time im through with you.  

- Lucy is in her teenage angst era but at least this time it’s just sort of silly instead of a result of horrific trauma. She’s just smothered by loving parents and thinks she could totally make it as an independent adult with no survival skills. She is wrong!

- (Lucy voice: God I hate my parents, they keep saying they love me every twelve seconds 🙄 I just want to do normal things like commit property damage and travel cross-country with nothing but a bag of cheese and scare old man Bacon. Instead all I can do is count my stacks of money and play fetch with my fire-breathing cat. This fucking blows!! They never let me do anything fun :/)

- Tam is a wannabe poet who becomes a knight. On his first day after a big promotion he promptly loses the crown’s only princess and decides that the best course of action is to fake his death and live in the forest. I can’t say I blame him.

- During Tam’s self-imposed exile he comes across is stalked by Bella (the catgirl). He finds her very annoying and is not at all her father now. He also hates cats and would never ever pet one and let it fall asleep in his lap. He is a man of principles and sticks to his finely tuned moral compass. By lying. And running away.

- Regarding Lucy’s disappearance – it was her way of getting away for a bit for fun only child shenanigans, but ultimately ends in her (crown princess, very recognisable, her face is on like. Everything.) getting kidnapped for real.

- Unbeknownst to Tam, David had also disappeared during official business, and Zanna is nowhere to be found. The crown is left in a precarious place, and it soon appears to be under real threat.

- Spoilers: Voss is about, and there is a lot he’s willing to take.

- On lighter notes: Gwilanna and the Chamberlain boys are absolutely still in this because I am so fucking predictable. Tootega come here I can treat you so much better mwah mwah. Well… maybe Gwilanna isn’t a lighter note. But she is there! This will have no consequences on anyone or anything, I’m sure! :3

just a heads up, this is set before robin comes to town, and a little bit after max receives the book from eddie.

They’re walking home today—the bus was too crowded, and Will didn’t want Max to walk home alone—when Will tells Max he believes her theory.

“Really?” Max asks, stopping on the sidewalk outside her house, “You believe me?”

Will nods. “Yeah. Yeah, it’s…it makes sense.”

Max crosses her arms, “It does?”

“Yeah,” he says, “it’s like…okay, so recently I’ve been having these…dreams. But they feel real. Like I’m here, but I’m somewhere else too. It’s a memory, I think. I think…it’s not impossible. Some of the memories are hazy though, like…like I’m not meant to be there.”

Now Max is interested. She’s read Will’s story, knows what he went through in the Enchanted Forest. His memories are hazy for a reason.

He’s quiet as they walk to the front steps, Max sees the concentration on his face, brows furrowed mouth pressed into a thin line. And then, he speaks again, “I think…I think there was a girl there. She knew me, but…I don’t think I know her. At least, not here anyway,” he stresses the word, his face screwing back up in thought.

Max digs the house key from her pocket and lets them both inside. Will drops his bag at the door, gently, as Max says, “You might wanna call your mom and let her know you’re here with me, I gotta grab something,” he nods, picking up the landline phone planted on Max’s wall. Max jogs up the stairs, running straight to her room where the storybook lays on her desk, still open to the story she read last night. She snatches it, cradling it close to her as she jogs back down into the living room, right as Will hangs up the phone. He eyes the book suspiciously but doesn’t comment on it.

“My mom said that it was okay that I was here, but she’s got to work a little later today so I might be here a while…” his eyes drift back to the book, “Is that it?”

She nods, handing the book to Will. His eyes widen, and it might be a trick of the lights, but Max swears his eyes shine over the gilded cover.

Like the curse, Max thinks, if he reads this book then maybe…

They move to the middle of the living room, sitting cross-legged as Will opens the cover and flips to the first story. Max watches for any signs of recognition, but nothing. At least, not yet. He clears his throat, before putting on his most dramatic reading voice, “Once upon a time…”

ngl my opinion of zhongli has really changed from when we first met him, i thought he was arrogant and self centered and i didnt take him seriously for awhile lol

but seeing all his character quests and a bunch of other lore since then, this kinda makes me feel a bit... more hopeful? about the khanri'ah situation? i believe in his integrity and judgement. zhongli's a kind soul and i dont see him cosigning something truly evil. there's alot we still dont understand about the situation, so while his answer is frustrating im going to make the assumption that this contract is a cog in a machine that's going to ultimately make things turn for the better.

OR maybe he's just agreed to standing as an impartial witness to carry history through time or something.... sigh
