#i guess i'm a fic writer now whoops
Update 27 Nov 23
Ko-Fi thing
You can call me Nyarla, I guess.
Or "Yo She-Bitch." Either's cool.
Soooo I figured I might need to make one of those MASTERLIST things because I cannot stop writing (which is the most amazing feeling ever when I've been in a writer's block for months).
It's just One Piece Live Action right now, but as my confidence increases I might post some of my other fandom work.
I'm Open for Requests for OPLA fics and headcanon. Primarily Character X FemaleReader, but I'm flexible.
I do reserve the right to not write every single request that is asked, since I am human and my abilities do have limitations, but I swear I will try.
I'm not squeamish about much of anything, so don't refrain. I'll always post any necessary ⚠️Trigger Warnings⚠️ right here with the links.
I'm always open to requests for Shanks, Mihawk, Zoro, and Sanji. Possibly also Buggy, Luffy, Usopp, Koby, and Helmeppo, but I haven't written them much, so please bear with me if it takes me a bit to respond.
Honestly please bear with me if it takes me a while to respond to Asks/Requests in general because I get really nervous about getting them perfect.

Whoop! Whoop! Guess who made another fanart dedicated by a fic named The Eight Immortal Maiden by @starkidwriting ??? This gUy!!
I was in the mood for angsty so here it is!!
In addition, I also wanted to tell you guys that I might (keyword 'might') be posting more of my oc's in the future (in which I named them all Y/N because 1. I suck at naming my oc's 2. I also wanted everyone to join in on the fun if they want too!) inspired by alot of fanfics and oneshots from Tumblr, Wattpad and Ao3!!! I'll give credits to the writers and the person who made those ideas when I'm done!
Now, before I end this. I wanted to inform you people that I researched these color-coded maidens before drawing them in order to make Y/N's own color-coded hanfu without copying the other maidens own color-coded dress(though that doesn't mean you all can't get to pick your own color-coded hanfu cause you can, it's your own imagination). And so far I found that the only ones that are available are pink and royal blue (I think? Correct me if I'm wrong please cause I can make her dress black or grey but that would make her seem dull) so I went with royal blue because that's one of my favourite colors but I also wanted Y/N to wear pink too because the color matches with the color of the peach blossoms and lotus flowers buuut it was too late and I already started coloring the characters to make slight adjustments. But uh- the thing is when I used royal blue, white accompanied by slight gold on her hanfu, she looked slightly like The Lady Bone Demon in which I realised that just as I finished my drawing. Also I might make slight adjustments to her design while we're at it. So I what are ya'lls opinions??? Should change it??? Or nah??? Please comment down below!
The link to the peach blossoms I used in this drawing ---> https://images.app.goo.gl/Ef6p7miMxx6imaSU75 Ps
Also! I hope you like it!!! 👀
(Ps. Okay, I really need to stop writing a whole damned essay on each of my posts 💀)

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers
i've had so much fun reading other answers to these questions over the last few weeks!! thank you @nv-md and @sweet-s0rr0w for mentioning me in your posts!! i fear my answers drifted much too far into self-indulgence, but what's new for this blog eh??
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
22, but one of them is 11 separate drabbles/microfics in a 2k-word jacket
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
293,865
3. What fandoms do you write for?
i'll only ever write hp on this username!
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
all drarry:
the four doors (legilimency healer draco + memory loss)
adventures in truth and texting (advent texting fic)
all i have to do (draco thinks harry is a magical fantasy but whoops he's real)
eight o'clock, tomorrow evening (four doors sequel)
two to lie and one to listen (8th year fake dating, sort of)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
i respond to everything on the final chapter of a fic! sometimes very kind commenters will say something at the end of every single chapter, which is SUCH a joy to receive, but i haven't yet figured out a way of saying "thank you!" 26 times over without sounding insincere
(i also don't usually respond to comments on fics i've co-written bc i don't feel like i have? the right? feels like i'm taking credit for something i did not really do!)
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
also drarry: for lack of wanting, wherein harry thinks it's sexy when draco acts like an evil dick again, and draco is too in love with harry to tell him that makes him feel weird
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
man i think all the rest are pretty happy, all things considered? tho i guess two to lie and wrapped are the only ones that end with explicit i-love-yous?
8. Do you get hate on fics?
i've been quite lucky, actually! i've had the occasional demand to change an angsty ending, or comments that have been quite mean about a character who isn't supportive of drarry. oh and i've had a couple of people get suuuper mad when draco malfoy, death eater and snotty spoilt brat, makes mildly immoral decisions. i've found all of those quite funny tho, which i'm sure i wouldn't if they were legitimate hate, so i don't think they count!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
yep! the vibe of two characters wanting to fuck but knowing they shouldn't for some reason (uneven dynamic, magic stuff, they simply haven't had a fucking conversation about it) is my absolute favourite. will read it every time, will write it pretty much every time too 😅
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
the closest i've come to writing a crossover is say no to this, a fic vaguely based off the storyline of the song from hamilton. it was the first drarry fic i'd written in about 10 years!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
yep! not any under this username (that i know of), but someone re-uploaded an old drarry fic of mine to wattpad – and honestly, i don't mind at all. i don't think the fic is very good lmao, if someone else wants to take the blame for it, that's totally fine by me
(the wildest thing about it is the combined ff.net + wattpad views of that fic now top 2 million i think?! but despite that u have almost definitely not heard of it!! i've only seen it mentioned, like, maybe 3 times since i properly re-joined fandom spaces in 2020)
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes!!!! it's SUCH an honour!!! the four doors is in german, chinese, russian and spanish; thirst (drarry vampire fic) is in chinese; and all i have to do (the not-fantasy-harry fic) is in russian 🥰
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
yes!!! well, sort of – officially, i co-wrote per my last letter (i hope you choke on it) with @lastontheboat, but i really do think i was more like an alpha reader with knobs on. the workload split was at least 25/75, with j shouldering a great deal of the burden (and all of the brilliance)!
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
this is going to sound silly given that i'm definitely a drarry writer and only really hang out in the drarry sphere – but i don't have one! for hp, i gravitate towards ships with harry in them, but even that isn't a hard and fast rule for me
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
nothing that i've posted! but i have tons that are never going to see the light of day. three recent-ish hp ones i've written the most for:
a fic i call The Opus, which is a drarry auror partners fic – i have 16k words written; it was going to end up a solid 100k. i love the concept i have for this fic so, so dearly, but a 100k casefic is not happening.
a harry/ginny established relationship smutty oneshot that is really nothing more than ginny being fun and sexy and harry being horny but, like, self-deprecating about it.
a drarry little mermaid au that i wrote for nanowrimo in 2019. like i MIGHT come back to this one day? but it's unlikely. pros: i do have 50k of it written already and the first draft isn't too far off being complete. cons: i have almost exactly 50k words of it written bc i hit the nano goal and stopped in the middle of a sentence bc writing it was SO stressful (that november i had two jobs + one volunteering role, and also i was moving house, so. a lot going on.)
16. What are your writing strengths?
god knows. dialogue and characters come easiest to me, ig? and i tend to cut a lot in editing, so i don't think my stuff is? overly wordy? so it doesn't require much brainpower to read? that could be a positive or a negative, depending on how you look at it!
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
i suck at caring about anything other than character dynamics, so my fics never have plot outside of something vague to put the main pairing in the same room
similarly, i'm not very good at describing locations – describing anything, really
bc i tend to focus on the "oh we want to but we shouldn't!" moment, i'm pretty bad at actually developing feelings in longer fics – that part always feels too rushed to me, but fuck if i know a way of fixing it that isn't just, like, write another 20k
i think my endings usually feel like a bit of an afterthought and often quite forced
the more i write, the more i realise i know, like, 5 ways of phrasing anything, and i just repeat the same things over and over
i'm trying to fix my lack of skills with plotting + pacing by planning extensively before i start drafting, but i think that takes a bit of the spark out of the final version? it becomes a bit predictable and samey?
em dashes every tenth word
i'm convinced ppl i respect are in group chats talking abt how annoying and bad at writing i am, and also lowkey (…highkey) i agree with them – so actually getting myself to write anything is super hard!!
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
yeah man! i mean, i personally am not sufficiently confident in my skills in any other language to do it without help (and i'm not sufficiently confident in my skills in asking for help to do that), but it's fun to read imo
19. First fandom you wrote for?
i've dabbled in a few over the years, but the first was hp – it was a marauders era snape/lily/james love triangle fic that i posted on a forum on a hp roleplaying site – this was before deathly hallows came out, so i was very smug when my pairing theory (that i undoubtedly stole from someone cleverer than me, because i was 13 years old) turned out to be true
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
god. @decaflondonfog recently told me that drabbles don't really count, so i? don't know? perhaps still the pine-woods scent the moon (guilty remus/harry) or taste of țuică (established drarry bringing ron in as a third) are the ones i like best, but i don't love either of them enough to be able to confidently declare them my favourite!
u know the drill: i got too sad and anxious and unfollowed everyone so i have no idea who to tag. if u made it this far please know i do love you very much, i want to kiss u on the cheek at LEAST, and would love to know any thoughts u have about the things u make ❤️

20 Questions for Fic Writers! Thank you so much for the tag, @incorrectcoldflashblog !! I'm excited to jump in (and have definitely answered too long windedly, haha, whoops)
How many works do you have on AO3? sixty-six!
What’s your total A03 word count? I was going to guess like over 100,000, which I guess I was technically correct because it’s 717,161!
What fandoms do you write for? A bunch! On this profile I’ve written for The Flash/Legends of Tomorrow, The Maze Runner, Bandersnatch (Black Mirror), Teen Wolf, Inception, and recently have gotten very into Shameless!
What are your top five fics by kudos? All coldflash (pretty sure it’s the most active fandom I’ve ever written for at a more active time, so, makes sense): a) Lullabies for Little Criminals (719 kudos) b) distract me from my last disaster (600) c) Something Out of Nothing (557) d) getting back to fine (512) e) Didn’t Change a Thing (424)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I try to, and for the longest time I kept up with it. Then I got overwhelmed with a bunch of stuff around late 2021 and into 2022 and stopped. Now i’ve started again, but there’s still a huge backlog that I haven’t gotten to. Please know that I appreciate you if you’ve commented!
What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I’ve written so many angsty fics, I don’t think I could name a single one, so here are my major fandoms (5+ fics) breakdown: a) This Time of Doubt (The Flash, coldflash) Len knows there’s something wrong with this timeline, and if he has to go through Barry to prove it, he will. (TW: Implied/Referenced Character Death) b) Red Lights, They Blink Your Name (The Maze Runner, minally) Gally’s going to follow that signal, even if it leads him into the dark. c) it’d be better if you flayed me alive (Shameless (US), gallavich) Mickey can't believe he agreed to let Ian shave his face before his fuckin' court hearing.
What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? a) Conflicts of Interest (The Maze Runner, thomally) My maze runner criminal law lawyers slow burn au. b) What’s Mine is Yours (The Flash, coldflash) Barry and Len move in together. c) Nocturne, Murmures Milkovich Turns out, Ian still has things to learn about his husband.
Do you get hate on your fic? Only once, and I actually deleted that fic in its entirety. It was the first longfic coldflash I ever posted, and it rattled me pretty good. It was quite nasty. Since then, never again! (and I wouldn’t delete it this time around, I don’t think, but it was a multi chap and I was so stunned by the comment I just never wanted to continue writing it, so).
Do you write smut? I have tried, but I'm not the most confident in it. I’ve got Scheherazade in coldflash fandom, and then two thomally fics: Corpus Delecti (which is a fic you won’t see unless you’re logged in) and then he goes down easy for me.
Do you write crossovers? I do not.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge.
Have you ever had a fic translated? Not to my knowledge.
Have you ever co-written a fic? Not yet!
What‘s your all-time favourite ship? I genuinely don’t know how to answer this question. I don’t really have one. To be perfectly honest, if someone writes it in a way that’s compelling, I’ll probably enjoy it.
What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Probably Stranger Than Your Sympathy. I’m sorry, I want to, but there’s just some foundational things that I would change (mainly Newt’s characterization, I actually prefer how I characterize him now)
What’s your writing strengths? I like to think I'm good with characterization and like... individual internal narration. The whole reason I write fanfiction is because I love exploring characters' heads and their dynamics and their world (or how they interact with aus). So, I like to think that what I write is true to character and makes impactful scenes.
What’s your writing weaknesses? I get easily inspired, so I have left some fics behind (I am so sorry Aphelion and Shiva, I will come back for youuuuu); and then I have worked hard on it, but I occasionally get very long winded and have a hard time killing darlings for the sake of pacing.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I’d love to be able to write in multiple languages, but I’m only fluent in English. At most, I could maybe write in Spanish, but I still would be worried about it being accurate.
First fandom you wrote for? Um, before I really knew what fandom was or anything like that, I wrote Naruto fanfic The first fandom I wrote for knowingly and participated in was Fire Emblem Three Houses.
Favourite fic you’ve ever written? Ufda, this is such a hard question. I’m again going to break it down into fandoms — a) Something Out of Nothing (The Flash, coldflash) b) Thou Shalt Not (The Maze Runner, thomally)(tbh this one changes all the time, ask me tomorrow it will probably be something different). c) I think it is all these things I have left to say to you Now it's my turn to tag! I'm very excited to do so, so here we go (and of course, no pressure!)! @blue-summers , @its-tea-time-darling , @itsthemxze , @sampharos , @callivich , @michellemisfit , @pathsofoak , @mmmichyyy , @go-catch-a-chickn , @sophiainspace , @sproutwings , @iasconsumesmedia
ALSO if anyone else would like to do this, go ahead!

Anything with a 3!
This is so mean.. but also, thank you for not saying 1 or 2 😂
There's a keep reading tap in here because this got a little long haha
3. Are there any specific themes you enjoy exploring in your fics? Oyyy.. um. I have a hard time separating themes from tropes right now so pardon if this is crap. But I love themes (and these are probably super obvious) like family, and love, and friendship, and overcoming things together and growing stronger in the process. Like give me these found family vibes any day and I'm sat. Did I answer that correctly??
13. What's the most challenging aspect of writing fanfiction for you? Keeping the characters in character! Listen, I'm a master overthinker, so of course I will worry about keeping them in character with every new story or new chapter I write. It's who I am. Doesn't matter that I've written quite a lot now, I'm always going to worry.
23. How do you write endings for your fics? Do you prefer open-ended or conclusive conclusions? I don't think I've ever actually written anything and left it open-ended, so the obvious answer would have to be conclusive conclusions (also, why did I lol so hard when I read that? "conclusive conclusions" well, yeah conclusions are usually conclusive..right? Sorry, I haven't slept in a long while 😂) Okay, I lied. I do actually have one story that's open-ended. Whoops.
30. How do you handle writing multiple storylines or subplots? Already answered here :)
31. Do you prefer writing from a single character's perspective or switching between different viewpoints? I know for a fact that in pretty much all of my stories, I switch back and forth between different viewpoints within the story. Sooo yeah, that's my answer I guess haha
32. Have you ever participated in fanfiction contests, challenges/fests? Yes, I did contribute stories to ChenfordWeek23 in July and the Secret Santa event in December!
33. How do you incorporate world-building elements into your fics? Damn woman, these are hard questions. Does that even apply when I just take the world we know from the show and then try to stay as true to that as possible? I may be wrong here and please correct me if I'm wrong lol, but isn't world-building basically like creating your own, unique world that doesn't actually exist? 🤔 someone help me out here pls 😂
34. Are there any fic writing tips or tricks you've learned along the way that you'd like to share? Oh hell. Have fun with it? I know that's lame but that's truly the best tip I can give. If you don't enjoy writing something, don't write it. If you enjoy writing it, go ahead and write it.
35. What do you enjoy most about being a fic writer? Being able to escape reality for a bit. And trying to give these characters even more stories and in-between-moments because we don't see everything in a 40-minute episode. Also, fanfic allows you to just explore stuff and have these characters meet in 18731129 different ways and yet always find their way to each other eventually.
Thanks for sending some questions!

20 questions for writers
tagged by @pia-writes-things - thank you! :D
(under the cut to save your dash)
How many works do you have on AO3?
64 at the moment!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
145,151 in eleven years... same as with drawing I don't post 90% of what I do lol whoops
3. What fandoms do you write for?
currently TES has been getting the gears going the most, but ER is my perennial love - and once in a blue moon I am compelled to do something TLU! SM is still very dear to my heart but I've been pretty dry on fic inspiration/drive for it for a while now :(
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
these are ALL OLDER PIECES haha so don't look too closely: it still burns - fluffy OPM piece for Knight c: what else can I say! too cold for you here and now - fluffy little Makoami piece (are you sensing a pattern already...) featuring terrible puns, because I have always loved characters trying to make each other laugh you do it for her (that is to say you do it for him) - another one written for Knight; OPM/SM crossover. with TWO chapters! left, left, left right left - introspective Romano piece re: arm. I actually now disagree with some character choices I made in this one so seeing it still getting attention has me like no... this doesn't represent me... Across the Western Ocean I Must Wander - Makoami pirate AU. also not a oneshot! (shock!) I don't think it holds up as well as I'd like, but the premise still compels me and there's some cute moments :'D still VIVIDLY remember being up late on a class night listening to one song on repeat while working on The Kissing Scene™
5. Do you respond to comments?
almost always! it may take me a bit sometimes, but I do try to make sure I do
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
frankly idek - being completely honest, "angst" just as a word at this point turns me off so immediately and so hard that I can't engage with the concept that way. I prefer endings with some hope, but I like some emotional complexity too! all my baggage about fandom and "angst" is for. ANOTHER TIME
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
again I'm not totally sure how to answer this one! I guess Ocean? doesn't get much more stereotypically happily-ever-after than "and then they ran away together the end"
8. Do you get hate on fics?
no, thankfully! I've gotten the occasional comment here and there that make me go "??" but more just sort of confusing, not malicious as far as I can tell lol
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
sdlkghlsj sex-repulsed asexual here and not for the first time I say: I am reasonably confident nobody wants me doing that. it can happen but offscreen to spare me the inevitable mortification... fade-to-black is about as far as we go in the House Of Mouse sorry!!
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I have before! it's not my preferred stomping grounds but I like a good one. I don't know about "craziest" but wouldn't do us any harm I think is probably the funniest of the handful I've shared (again: written primarily for Knight! warning that it is from 2016 LOL)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not to my knowledge!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
also not to my knowledge!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
yes! baby Mouse ran a fic awards "show" (in the written medium obviously) with a friend back in like 2010 or 2011 on FFN... it was loads of fun!
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
just one?? if I have to choose then: Lizzie & the Bald Boys... my little driftwood raft that I've finally convinced a handful of other people aboard c':
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Makoami Princess and the Goblin AU :( still means a lot to me but SM just hasn't been where I've been drawn to write for a while!
16. What are your writing strengths?
dialogue + characterization is most often what I get compliments on (<3) - I'd like to think I have a fairly decent hand for little meaningful details too, but I think these more often than not end up just being for my own benefit because I like my symbolism subtle aha
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
LONGFORM... plugging together things into ordered chapters and maintaining momentum over longer spaces is my greatest struggle. I've had to come to terms with the fact that I'm much more a sprinter than a marathon runner, and it's been very freeing letting myself step outside of needing all the surrounding context to just do things as I come to them and then getting to string it all into chronology via series ordering
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
done well I find it really impressive! it's very hard to do well though ahaha.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
without the context of "fandom", the first story I ever wrote was about the Boxcar Children hanging out with me at age 6 (the entirety of chapter three was all of us singing the alphabet together and it was narratively crucial that this happen. for some reason.). with the context of knowing about fandom though, Scooby Doo at 11-12!
20. Favorite fic you've written?
of what's posted: Ocean has a lot of personal meaning because it was the first multichapter piece I was able to finish in several years, but on a technical level I've been really proud of some of the more layered pieces I've been practicing in the last year or so: Thermal Equilibrium and skipping stones I think are good examples of that :')
tagging: @knightnightwrite (I AM GOING TO GET YOU TO DO ONE OF THESE SOMEDAY <3 <3 <3), @wispstalk, @ehlnofay, @wonderofasunrise, and anyone else who wants to do it!! as always no obligation if you've been tagged and don't want to! except for Knight. beloved I am knocking on your door come PLAY WITH ME

2, 6, 11, 12 for the asks~! :DDDD (Just saw that you reblogged, whoops.)
Thanks for asking @randomfoggytiger 💕 And no pressure! If people want to play or not play, it is all good. ☺️
2. Favorite genre of fic?
Oh so many. But the tags I'm immediately drawn to are angst, hurt/comfort, casefic, fake dating/married, undercover, and one bed.
6. Favourite fic (or one of them)?
Again, oh so many. I'm blessed with being in a fandom that has amazingly talented writers. So there are probably hundreds of fics that I could name here.
But the fic that came immediately to mind when I read the question is “The Boy on The Beach” by @cecilysass .
That fic did something to me that I can't explain. It took me to a different world where I just could not stop reading and got completely lost in the characters, the setting, the atmosphere, and the plot. This story should be on all the bestseller lists that exist if you ask me. I still remember waiting for those daily updates… good times.
11. Least favourite trope/element/scenario?
Now that's even harder. I love to explore unusual scenarios or out there ideas. There isn't much I wouldn't at least be curious about to check out.
I guess I'm not too big of a fan of domestic fics where the main focus is on being pregnant, living behind a white picket fence or reading about toddlers. But while typing this, I'm already coming up with exceptions and fics I liked that included these scenarios.
12. What turns you away the most from a fic?
Probably, when characters seem ooc. There's an essence to every character that can usually be found in all scenarios. Something that makes a character them—no matter if they're put in an AU world or between scenes. If that essence isn't there I’ll turn away.
Thanks for playing! 😊

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
I'm very belated for this, but thanks for the tag @hbyrde36!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
18! But a lot of those are in the Wildflowers series. (Maybe it should have been chaptered? I still don't know what the right answer was, lol.)
So, I basically have 3 things to read, if you count the two parts of the Jagged Little Pill series as one, and I always do. Wildflowers is for those that wanted more of Tuesday's, and not that many people wanted to read Tuesday's in the first place, haha. So it's a niche of a niche. But I hold it close to my heart, and it makes me happy that a few of you have been so on board with it, too. ❤️
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
487,289. Which is kind of crazy. I just looked, and I started writing You Oughta Know on July 30th, 2022. From then until today, that's 457 days. That's averaging over 1,000 words a day. That seems wild. (And I've got a lot of unpublished words still in the chamber, haha.)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Just Stranger Things right now, but I'm not opposed to branching out as the mood strikes. I think I'd love to take on David/Patrick of Schitt's Creek someday.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Take the Money and Run (by a country mile, lol)
You Oughta Know
I'm Brave, But I'm Chicken Shit
Tuesday's Gone With the Wind
You Don't Know How It Feels (I didn't realize it had overtaken the first part of Wildflowers, so that's fun! More readers must have enjoyed the look at the Corroded Coffin boys, and I dig it.)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! I definitely try to respond to them all. Sometimes I'm a little slow about it though, sorry!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I like a happy ending. But Time to Move On, I guess? It's just a part of a series, so it's not like the ending is permanently sad, but that one does end at a sad point in their lives.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of them are pretty happy, but I'm partial to the epilogue ending of Take the Money and Run. That will always have my heart. ❤️
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've gotten a very little, so I feel pretty lucky.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes, and I write what fits the larger story, I hope. I've written M/M and F/M, so far. I haven't done a full PWP, though some of the parts of Wildflowers were supposed to be that, but the dang plot kept getting in the way. Whoops.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Just little brief ones, so far. There's a couple in Take the Money and Run that I find fun, but if you don't get them, I don't think they detract from the story.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, and I'm not sure it'd work for most of my stuff, with all the mixed media.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, I'm not sure how good I'd be at that. I write by jumping all over the place. That'd probably be annoying for someone else to deal with, lol!
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
All time? Man, that's hard. I'm obviously deep in a Steddie hole at the moment. But I'll go with my first. Pacey and Joey of Dawson's Creek. They brought me into fandom, into fic, so they get the gold star. (For more current ships, definitely Steddie and David & Patrick of Schitt's Creek.)
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I don't really post anything I'm not basically finished with. But from my private stash, I like the idea of Here You Come Again, but I just have been writing other stuff. I'm going to take on my other Steddie (Untitled, But Not Really) WIP during NaNoWriMo. I've never done that before, so I thought might be fun, since I saw you can go rogue and write 50,000 words on something that isn't brand spanking new. So, even if that fic doesn't need 50,000 words to finish (and I'm not sure it does) it might give me the push to try to finish it up. I've been sitting on my hands on it since I decided to sign up, which is fine, I needed to finish up Wildflowers. (And get ahead on my Steddie Holiday Drabbles: I've finished 8 of the 30 so far.)
16. What are your writing strengths?
From the comments, I'm going to go with that I can make readers laugh from time to time, which makes me so happy. I also like to dig into the research.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Um, also the research, lol. Sometimes I'll be researching until I'm just wasting time. Some things really don't matter in the big picture. (But they do to me!!) And I need to learn to let them go.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
That's not something I've done, I don't think. But I have tried to respond to comments that were written in a different language using Google Translate.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Dawson's Creek. Many, many moons ago. At the turn of the millennium. (That's fun to say, ha!)
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Unpopular opinion time! I know Take the Money and Run is more popular. By, well, a lot. And I do love it. It gave me the bug to write long fic again. But I have big feelings for Tuesday's Gone With the Wind. It was such an undertaking. All the mixed media. The endless research. And I fell in love with those characters in the process.
It wasn't as popular as TtMaR, but that's okay. It makes me very happy that it reached even as many people as it did. I know that author's note was enough to scare anyone away, haha. Add in the CNTW and it's amazing anyone read it at all. Thanks to those of you that did! You've made me so happy. ❤️
I'm so late for this, I'm not gonna tag, but if you haven't done it and want to, please do!!

❦ ➷ get to know your fellow fanfic writers better ༊ ✧.*
thank you to @chaos-monkeyy for the tag :D
1. when did you post your first ever fanfic?
Sometime in late 1999, I think. Maybe early 2000.
2. first character you wrote for:
Uh. Well, it was OZ fandom, so maybe Alvarez? Or O'Reilly? Possibly Beecher? I have no idea and no way to check.
3. main character(s) you’re currently writing for:
I have no ideas in my head right now, so the answer is: no one. Most recently I wrote Jordi/Emilio (Who is Erin Carter?). And, I mean, I'm always thinking about Lorne, but there are no active fics in progress right now.
4. character(s) you haven’t written about before but plan on writing about soon:
I have the vaguest of vague ideas about a Peacemaker/Vigilante fic, but nothing that's particularly coherent and nothing is written.
5. fandom(s) you’re currently writing for:
Most recently (within the last month): SGA, Who is Erin Carter, ST:PIC, and a couple of original things.
6. platonic pairing(s) you currently write for:
Whoops, I pretty much never write platonic things :') I've written some Jayne+Kaylee (Firefly) stuff, though.
7. romantic pairing(s) you currently write for:
I mean, I guess if by 'current' we mean 'somewhat recently' and by 'romantic' we mean 'probably lust and/or pining', I've written Lorne/Sheppard (SGA), Jordi/Emilio and Erin/Penelope (Who is Erin Carter), and Conquering Warlord/War Trophy Prince (original).
Oh! Oh, wait! I did write something romantic recently! It was Shy Eldritch Horror Who Doesn't Know How to Woo Humans/Ordinary Human. It is romance! With blood and stuff! I loved writing that story.
8. your top 3 tags on AO3 (if you post your works on AO3):
Alternate Universe, Blow Jobs, Dubious Consent. None of these are surprising to me.
9. your current platform where you post your works
AO3 and I sometimes cross-post to my DW, if I remember.
10. snippet of the wip you’re currently working on:
Nothing. I have some WIPs that I haven't looked at in months, and I'm not actively working on anything.
I've lost track of people who have been tagged on this one, so if you're interested and you haven't done it yet, please do!!

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💙
You know... I put off answering this for a while because I just could not choose five. And I still can't?? I have so many fics I've written, many of them for fandoms of one, and I find that I actually love a lot of them.
So... if you'll forgive me, I think I'll just talk about a whole bunch of fics that I love for a whole bunch of reasons.
(cut because... I really do talk about a lot of fics lmao)
I think these days a lot of people follow me for WWDITS/nandermo fic. It's one of my current loves, and I've really enjoyed writing for this fandom. I do wonder if I'll keep writing after nandermo becomes canon (or gets sunk for good) but in the meantime... I guess I'll just keep having a good time?
I think my favorite fic I've ever written for WWDITS is Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, Too. I was looking at a bunch of prompts for the Trick-or-Treat Exchange (more on that later) and I ended up smushing several of them together in my head. But then the story really got away from me, I guess, as I really started to delve deep into Nandor's mind (a WILD place to be, I'm telling you) and it ended up not being posted for another month. Whoops?
Either way, though, I feel like I was really able to get at some of the ideas I'd been juggling with the characters for a long time at that point, and I think the prose itself was very nice at times. I did complicated things with that fic that I haven't done before, and in the end... I think I did a good job! It's probably the fic I'm proudest of in this fandom.
That said, I'd like to give Honorable Mentions to both When We Sway (I Go Weak) and Five Times Guillermo Helped Nandor Collect Semen (And One Time He Didn't) just because both of those fics involved me getting wildly out of my comfort zone. I think both of them seem a bit... outdated, maybe, after s4 and s5, but I think they match the tone of s3 nicely.
Sway was heavy on pining, something I feel like I'm good at writing, but also very heavy on physical action. As many of you know, I'm disabled! I have never waltzed. The kind of movement I described in that fic is not easy for me to do myself, and action scenes have always been difficult for me to write fluidly. So the fact that I was able to write both dancing and fighting convincingly in that fic made me really relieved. I got several comments from dancers telling me how well I'd captured dancing with a partner and like. PHEW. I did a ton of research and bro I was RELIEVED. So I do feel very proud of that.
Even more outside of my wheelhouse was both 5+1 things fics. I'd written a little bit of porn before this, even some for nandermo, but not much and I was largely dissatisfied with it. But boy did I get a lot of practice with those fics. lmao. It was essentially 11 sex scenes of various levels of filth loosely strung together with longing, and like... honestly, I'm very pleased at how most of them turned out! And I think I'm a lot better at writing porn now, even if it always turns out very fucking weird and introspective.
Speaking of weird.
The other fandom I love dearly these days is Sleep No More, which I've been writing for for several years. For a long time, I mostly just wrote this one for exchanges? Mostly ToT and Yuletide. I love writing for SNM, an interactive theater situation in NYC, because I can really fuck around with writing styles. I can play with ideas about religion and folklore and magic and blood and storytelling and tradition, and I can do it while writing some of the most fucked-up relationships that exist. I can play with a show that has very little spoken word, where a slap and a kiss might be in the same loosely choreographed dance, where I get to be a part of this haunted house, but only as a ghost...
While I'm sure the very few people who usually read my SNM fic might disagree, I think my favorite thing I've ever written for SNM is It's A Sin to Tell A Lie. It was my first time really trying to assemble a semi-coherent narrative from the show (largely inspired by some things that I realize now were not always common experiences in the show lmao) so I'm not sure it always aligns with how I see the characters now, but I feel like I wrote a really haunting fic that used the source material in interesting ways.
The Honorable Mention this time goes to The Consequence of Sounds, which is probably the strangest thing I've ever written. A friend of mine joked that she'd like it even if someone wrote like a haunted space hotel AU for the show and that apparently scratched something insane in my brain, so... I wrote a fic that combined space opera, Macbeth, Scottish folk magic, and the music of the spheres.
It's....... very weird. But it was also so fun to write, and I think it was fairly successful. I think the point of fanfiction is weaving together a familiar canon in a brand-new way, and I had fun bringing odd little allusions and old ideas into a new AU. I had to get really creative and that was so fun.
Speaking of weird AUs... I wrote a lot of them when I used to write karabita. haha. This is another one of those fandoms that I picked up a lot of followers with, though idk if any still follow me. Osomatsu-san was a weird comedy show that threw itself into surrealism and AUs very often, and that allowed me to do the same. I think... out of the many, many karabita fics I wrote, my favorite might be Love's Carriers, which is a flower shop AU I wrote out of spite after someone told me that all flower shop AUs are terrible. I worked really, really hard to make the AU suit the characters rather than the other way around while also incorporating flower language, one of my favorite stupid tropes. Again, I think this one came out surprisingly well, especially considering I wrote it in like... 24 hours in a fit of pique. lmao.
Other fics I remember being very proud of in that era... uh... The odd karabita KH AU that no one read because there is basically zero crossover between those fandoms... The soulmark AU because I am WEAK to those... The wingfic... ah... the wingfic... I don't know if I'd use words like "best" or "favorite" for that wingfic, but... I do think it's probably the most I've ever put of myself into a fic. The anxieties re: love and disability that I put into that fic were so real that I still cry every time I look at certain parts of it. I've grown as a person since writing it, but... yeah, those are still fears that haunt me. So I guess I could say it feels the most "me" of any of them I ever wrote.
Other than that... I guess we end up in my exchange fic era. I spent many years writing fic of extremely variable quality for exchanges lmao. I think the most successful was undoubtedly there's not a word yet (for old friends who just met), the muppets slash fic that launched... god, honestly. like. I know I did not create a fandom, but being in at the ground floor and being the one that everyone came to talk to when the pairing DID get off the ground was surreal. lmao. I created that tag on AO3! Everyone said I was crazy for writing that fic! Then they read it and they fell in love a little bit! Then the pairing became canon and everything went bananas! What a weird, surreal, delightful fandom experience.
That Muppets fic really came from the heart and really just came from me writing a fic during a very difficult time in my life and wanting to create a love letter to the characters that got me through it. I wanted to make other people feel the way The Muppets made me feel, and the fact that I succeeded in that (against all odds!) really does make that one special to me.
But... I wrote a ton of exchange fics for tiny, tiny fandoms that most people have never considered! Weird spooky crossover f/f ships, like my Crazy Rich Asians/Ready Or Not Astrid/Grace fic, or my Stoker/Sharp Objects India/Amma fic! Rarepairs like my Kimi no Na wa (Your Name) f/f Mitsuha/Miki fic! An unhinged lost episode of Puppet History! Character studies of dear little elderly murderers in Arsenic and Old Lace!
I also wrote sort of quasi-original fic, especially for the ToT exchange. Ghosts of dinosaurs falling in love with each other in a museum (inspired by a real historical case of the wrong skull being on a skeleton -- and god, that one has a hilarious IRL story attached to it) and a pet shop full of the ghosts of animals longing for companionship and grim reapers grappling with life and death and forbidden love. Mann I loved writing those.
And honestly??? I could write entire posts about any of the fics I'm talking about here. I love them, especially the ones that weren't really loved by anyone else. Hell, I'm turning that pet shop into an extended f/f origific right now.
Writing fic for tiny fandoms of one or two for an exchange feels so bittersweet because you can make that person really happy (and, not to toot my own horn, but I tend to make recipients really happy in exchanges) but it just kind of... fades away. Those stories sometimes have very short lifespans just because they're really just for one person. It's not a good or bad thing, just the nature of exchanges. I love designing a fic that's tailored to one person's likes, dislikes, and deepest desires. It's so fun for me. But it is kind of sad to see those fics fall by the wayside after. So I have to love them enough to make up for it. haha.
Finally... a fic I adored writing, that absolutely consumed me, and it's for a fandom that is basically nonexistent. I loved going to Meow Wolf's House of Eternal Return and experiencing the work of hundreds of artists all coming together to make something great. I wanted to add my art, too. No one is out here looking for HoER fic, especially not for the pairing I wrote, but like. BOY, if there's any fic I've ever written that's the definition of "I wrote this for me", it's Gnosis.
Anyway, yeah, I've been posting fic on AO3 for *checks* almost 15 years now, so I guess it makes sense that I can't narrow this down to just five, lmao. But I'm also trying not to go on too much.
But seriously, seriously, if anyone wants me to talk more about these fics or any other that I've written, I would be so incredibly happy to give you a play-by-play of what I was thinking, what I was trying to do, what I liked, what I disliked, what I'd change now, what changed me, etc. I think any author would be haha.
But I'll cut this short now!! As for who to tag... honestly, since I read so much fiction for a living these days, I don't really read fanfic anymore. I'm not sure who I follow writes it anymore. I have most fic tags filtered, being real with you. So... how about this. If you are a writer and you want me to tag you, just lmk!!! And I will send you the message.

Now that we're entering into 2024, I'm asking some artists and writers that I follow:
1) What is the one piece you're most proud of from this past year?
2) What are some pieces that you would have liked more people to see? If you can include links, I'd love to go check them out!
3) What were your top three favorite pieces (art, comics, fics, etc) that someone else has made this past year?
(As always, no pressure to respond! Feel free to just ignore, or let me know if you'd rather I not send you these kinds of asks in the future.)

“Nobody asked about my writing” meme
Thanks for the tag, @tea-understands :) Thankfully I have a small handful of folks who ask me about such things but I do love these memes.
1: what are you currently working on?
The Big Boy Fic! The finale of Earth-197320, which I'm 99% certain I am calling Above the Shadows. And I'll have a fun update on Write Every Day June in a couple days.
2: summarize your current project
It's the fifth and final fic in a series that I started 4 years ago from an anonymous prompt sent to @amethyst-noir. I really clicked with it and she gave me her blessing to pursue it as a full-fledged fic, and here we are today.
Here's my first stab at a proper summary that I wrote for this questionnaire (tell me what you think y'all??):
2019 starts off in crisis-mode as rifts within the borders of reality begin spiraling out of control, drawing the resources of the Masters of the Mystic Arts thin. Tony now juggles the problems of a suddenly-absent Stephen, keeping his work with the sorcerers a secret, and Pepper's uncertain future. Stephen does what he can to maintain the stability of reality while keeping the promises he made. And somewhere out there, the other Stephen Strange is still hiding, putting his own plans into play.
3: summarize your current project poorly
An author split up what should have been a single work into five separate stories because she wanted to fulfill Bingo cards in 2019, leading to a series that the readers are probably going to need to reread because there's so much detail in Fic 5 that calls back to stuff that happened in Fics 1-4. Fics 1-3 match the length of Fic 4, and Fic 5 is well over the length of Fics 1-4 combined, making for even poorer fic splitting choices. Whoops.
4: describe your favorite character or characters
I mean. Do I really need to? If you're on my blog you know who my faves are.
I guess quick summary as they are in the series in particular:
Stephen Strange: Has an enormous guilt complex that he's been working through a lot. He got better with the help of new friends. His work has endeared them to him quite a bit.
Wong: Has taken a leadership role, but not the title of Sorcerer Supreme for reasons not yet established to the readers. Carries his own secrets. Excellent poker face, but not emotionless.
Tony Stark: Has been blatantly ignoring the Accords ever since he went against Ross's back to find Steve in Siberia and has been continuing that trend since. Seeing the feds turn their eyes on Peter changed his opinion quite strongly. The Steve Issue is still difficult.
Other Strange: He thinks the Avengers and Masters of the Mystic Arts have failed their duties and that he can protect all of reality by himself. He just needs more power.
5: post a line from your current project without any context
Closed my eyes and scrolled and went to a random page. This is what came up.
Oh, Jesus Christ. This explained so much about the man.
6: how do you get through writers block?
If it's not something health-related which just makes it physically very hard to work on items, I'll switch projects with my shorter fics. For a long fic like this, I'll put on a sprint and just power through 15 minutes at a time to get the harder bits out.
For health-related stuff (including mental), you sometimes just need to work on that first before you can be in the right space to write.
7: would you want to live in the world of your current work?
Hell no. Superhero worlds are terrible for normal people.
8: briefly discuss your outlining process, if you outline
I write an outline with the main beats of what I want in that chapter. Then when I get to the actual chapter, I'll sometimes expand the outline with more detail in that chapter section itself. I often go back to the main outline and add new things as I come up with them, or switch around elements in the story to a new chapter. This is how the planned outline has grown from around 12 normal chapters and 1 interlude chapter to 18 normal chapters and 2 interlude chapters (with potential for more growth seeing as I'm getting into some areas that have original outlining that I no longer am certain I want to use as they were ideas from over 2 years ago and the story's evolved a lot since then).
9: what is the aesthetic of your current project?
So much plot. Rewriting a lot of the end of phase 3 to push my Found Family agenda. Fix it vibes, but I think it's a natural fix it arc from the canon drama that could have happened in canon if the Russos gave a damn. A lot of character exploration into their own separate journeys and growth arcs. Pretty accurate on Marvel tones with action, drama, a bit of snark and humor. An itty bitty dash of canon romance but we all know I'm including it only because it needs to be there due to the plot and character arc reasons and not because I'm all googly-eyed for the genre.
10: what song sums up your current work the best?
Each chapter in the series takes a song lyric from a specific song and I identify that song with the story pretty heavily. For instance, Illuminating the Shadows took "The Light" from Disturbed.
For Above the Shadows, it's "Phoenix" by Fall Out Boy (who I'm seeing live in concert in a couple days, yay).
Tagging those who I know are writing/trying to write: @mckiwi, @sobeautifullyobsessed, @burglarhobbit, @amethyst-noir. No obligation either way. Also if I didn't tag you please feel free to take this (and you can poke me here if you'd like as a reminder that you're still actively writing fic regardless of the fandom and I'll try to remember for these sorts of things).

For the fic writer meme 9 and 10!
9. The hardest fic to write overall and right now is There's Never Been a Moment You've Been Forgotten. I love this fic, I have it outlined and I have plenty of future scenes written, but! People keep asking me to update. And that stabs right into the part of my brain that is adhd (hates doing assigned tasks) and is also defiant af (hates doing literally anything it is told to do). So like. Yeah that one is so difficult to write right now because my motivation is shot to pieces. Which sucks, because I'd really like to update it too! But it's not healthy for me to write it atm because my brain starts spiraling like crazy and then the Bad Thoughts come. :/
Lol sorry Malakia! None of this ire is aimed at you, friend. You were probably not exactly asking in order to invite therapy hour... Whoops. XD Yeah, I just got a message like a day ago, from a reader, asking me to please either update or tell people the fic is abandoned so I'm uh. A little salty about it rn. XD They weren't awful about it or anything, but yeah. My defiant brain is kinda frothing at the mouth angry rn.
ANYWAY MOVING ON!
An Undertale (my current fandom of choice) difficult fic to write is probably Puzzle Runner. I'm honestly really worried I won't be able to write Papyrus well enough as a romantic lead! Like, he's so enthusiastic and charming and such a breath of fresh air, and that's not what my soul is like at all?? So I'm worried I'll portray him wrong and then be disappointed in myself.
Oh man. I should not answer these at 4 am, all of this is becoming Therapy Hour. Ahhh whoops??? 😅😅😅
10. The easiest fic to write is probably any of my soulmate fics? I just. There's something about that trope that is so comforting and freeing for me. Oooh or any song fics. I love music, so including music in the fic or basing the fic on the story and flow of a song is so fun to do! I just gotta remember that I'm writing the fic for me and not for the people who hate song fics. XD
A specific Naruto fic would be Sex and Coffee, which is not a soulmate fic but is the fic that fills me with the most pride. I woke up at 2 am, rolled over and wrote it on my phone in one continuous stream over the course of two hours. I read back over it to edit for maybe ten minutes and then posted it immediately and went back to sleep right after. Seriously, if I didn't know better I'd think I'd gotten possessed. Easiest fic I've ever written, hands down. XD I love that fic to pieces. So I guess this one is the real answer. But I'm not gonna edit the earlier bit, lol.
A specific Undertale fic would actually be Neighborhood Blues. I also wrote that first chapter in a bit of a blur. XD I guess the easiest fics to write are the ones that spring fully-formed from my mind like Pegasus from Medusa.
Anyway, I just had a thought about Neighborhood Blues XD XD XD XD XD
Gotta go write it down before it escapes.

17, 22, 9 & 8? good luck with the exams hope they go well!
thank you so much! I can't wait for them to be done so I can focus on fic and other non-essential silliness 😭😭😭
17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?
omfg when I tell you... I have never done so much random batshit research in my life for a fic... than I have for this current one... I MEAN it. i've gone to a southern california mission (and am planning a second trip for this or next month!), I've read The Art of War TWICE this week, I started studying tarot, and now I know WAY too much about human anatomy (tendons and ligaments, specifically). but one wild thing I've learned is that apparently when people got crucified back in ye olden times, the nails went into their WRISTS and not their PALMS??? so either I didn't pay attention in either of my catholic schools (likely), I forgot about this, (also likely) or they just never taught us that (most likely)
22. Do you know how your fic will end before you start writing?
if I start a fic knowing it's going to be a multi-chapter fic then I usually figure out the ending before I write a single word. so basically yes. I always know the ending. (the only fics that have ever gotten me in trouble with this are the ones that started as one shots and then whoops suddenly there's more chapters! and I never figured an ending out bc I thought I'd already written it! oopsies!)
but I am very good at developing a basically-complete story with anywhere between 2 hours and 2 weeks of brainstorming. I am very fast with it. it's the plot specifics (scenes, settings, b plots, etc) throughout the fic that I usually spend more time on, but fic usually comes to me all at once! idk! I thought for years that that was how everyone came up with fic! but I have learned from my darling friends over the past couple years that... that is absolutely not the case. idk it's a funny little ~party trick~ I have I guess
9. Do you write every day? If you wrote today, share a sentence of what you’ve written!
I WISH! if I had my preferred amount of time to sit down and write fic every day I would have an absolutely terrifying amount of fanfiction complete. (when focused I can easily spit out 30k+ words in a week and it makes me feel both insane and ALIVE) but usually I can't sit down to write unless I have at least five+ hours to write. once I get started writing I literally can not stop and it upsets me INTENSELY if I have to 💔💔💔
8. What project(s) are you currently working on?
I am currently only working on roots! when that first draft is finished I'm going to take a break and finish outlining cotn's novella this summer; this is so that when I finally fix-up roots and it's ready to post I'll be able to redirect my attention to that while roots is being posted (which will happen over the course of 1 year+)
so! very exciting stuff for the Jalice Appreciators out there who give a shit about my writing 🤠
fanfic writer asks!

56. five years from now, where do you see yourself as a writer?
70. are you very critical of your own writing? how much do you find yourself editing (either during the writing or after the fact)?
99. was being a writer a dream of yours when you were little? or did it spring up when your older? or is it just a hobby?
I might’ve gotten carried away, whoops^^
Okay, I’m gonna jump around and go out of order cause I’m writing this in between morning errands and throughout a few days when I get chance to sit and breathe :D
99. was being a writer a dream of yours when you were little? or did it spring up when your older? or is it just a hobby? It never was a dream actually! I had no interest in writing for the vast majority of my school years too. It wasn’t until I was ~16 or so and started working on a fanfic, that I realized “ah, this can actually be fun.” Something just kind of clicked for me after that. I started paying more attention to good writing, reading more,  thinking about what made certain stories compelling. I started trying a lot harder in my schoolwork too, and ever since then I’ve done pretty well in classes that required lots of essay writing.
But even then, and even after I started writing The Illusionist, I didn’t really have a passion for it. It was just something I did to wind down. What changed it for me was reading the King Killer Chronicles and The Stormlight Archive. After those books, I found a new wave of inspiration and remember thinking, “I want my writing to be like this,” and ever since then I’ve had a much deeper appreciation for the craft.
70. are you very critical of your own writing? how much do you find yourself editing (either during the writing or after the fact)? Ugh, yeah, I am 😔  Not so much while I’m writing, but immediately after I publish a chapter, I pretty much can’t stand it lol. I consume a lot of really great writing, and all of my friends are highly skilled so my calibration for “Good Writing” is always shifting, and after I finish a new book or fic, the bar always seems to be raised. And that is a great thing! I can always be better. I can always learn something new, but by nature of who I am, I guess, I am hyper aware of my weaknesses.
22. describe your writing process from scratch to finish. Talk to myself about my fic. Write down only half the ideas I brought up but  immediately forget half of those anyway. Sit down with the word processor. Write a few sentences. Agonize over those few sentences. Write a few more. Write a paragraph. Go back to the first few sentences and change the syntax, then change it back to the way it was before. Write a few more paragraphs, maybe a page. Go back to the first paragraph and edit if 5 more times. Step away. Come back at 11:00 PM on a Tuesday and write until 2:00 AM. Laugh maniacally cause none of what I’ve written was in my original notes. Read it once. Publish the chapter. Make enough edits once it’s already posted that it’s borderline a different chapter when the next person comes to read it. Success :D
1. do you know how you want the story to end when you start, or are you just stumbling through the figurative wilderness hoping to find a road?Omg, I'm really trying to take a more planned approach with Syl's story, but with the Illusionist, absolutely not. I mean... that story is nearing 600k words. I very clearly had no idea what I was doing. I find it along the way but there is a lot of meandering :p
7. tell us about the plot of the first fanfic you ever wrote It was a modern girl in Skyrim fic actually and I wrote it maybe ten years ago?? Omg throwback. IIRC, the reason why she was brought to Nirn was some big joke by the daedra. She and the Dragonborn were the champions of Sheogorath and Sanguine respectively, but I don't really remember much about the protagonist beside her being absolutely useless 😭 The DB on the other hand was a hedonistic asshole who did whatever he wanted (assassin, thief, womanizer etc.) and had no desire to save Skyrim. Oh and at some point he became a vampire? And Meeko was there too... The main story revolved around her doing various quests to learn the necessary skills to survive in Skyrim on her own. She was also trying to convince the DB to save the world while slowly losing her mind to Sheogorath's madness. It was quite fun. Not very well-written, but very fun. 9. in an ideal world where you’re already super successful and published, would you want to see a tv or movie adaptation of your work? why or why not? For my fanfics??? I don't think the world needs to see those XD If I ever follow through with my original story ideas, however, then yeah. That would be great, but mostly for the shmoney and the freedom shmoney would grant me.
11. what’s something neat you’ve learned while doing research for something you were writing? also, how much do you worry about doing research in general? I do a fair bit a research. If I find myself questioning the veracity of what I’ve written, I’ll look it up to confirm or spend a an hour or so reading how to make it more accurate. Mostly for combat stuff and TES lore surrounding the Daedra and magic. Anytime I make someone an “expert” in a field, like Lucien with his lyre or Raminus and his rocks, I do extra research cause on the off chance a musician or a geologist stop by, I don’t want to sound like a goober speaking out my rump.
40. best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten. Oooh, this is tough, but something along the lines of “write less, not more.” It’s super pertinent to me at the moment while I edit old chapters. Also a writing friend of mine has mentioned that in one of Brandon Sanderson’s lectures on storytelling, he says our instincts will usually tell us to write far more navel gazing than necessary. I’m trimming out a lot of extraneous material and the chapters are feeling a lot smoother.
44. any writing advice you want to share? This might be controversial, but I honestly think it’s fine to compare your writing to others as long as you approach it with a critical eye. How else are you going to get better unless you read examples of writing that you think are better and also examples that you think are worse? What works in their writing? What doesn’t? What’s moving? What’s distracting? I know there is that saying “Comparison Is the Thief of Joy” and yeah, sometimes it will cause grief but there will always be people in the world who are smarter, more skilled, more successful than you currently are, and if you can’t take inspiration from them instead of being envious, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Hot takes.
56. five years from now, where do you see yourself as a writer? Oh lort. Well, hopefully I’ll have published all the manuscripts from my dissertation and I won’t still be working on The Illusionist 😂 I’d really like to be at least wrist deep in an original novel too (which I still have not started writing beyond outlines). I think that would be a lot of fun, but I also am super fond of the community I’ve found for fanfic. Maybe TES VI will be out, or I’ll have found a new fandom to write fanfic for. Maybe I’ll branch out in my genres, write some crime thriller or something :D
Thank you for the prodding. Sorry I take so long. Not been on the tumbly too often as of late <3
